The show "What Chaos Now" explores a mix of hockey news, player culture, and team dynamics, focusing on the NHL’s new enforcement of the jersey tuck rule. Trevor Zegris was penalized during a preseason game, triggering a wave of player-led protests and social media commentary, with many questioning whether the rule is driven by commercial interests like jersey advertising. The discussion highlights how traditions like jersey tucking, once seen as a part of player identity, are now being policed, sparking debate about player autonomy and the commercialization of sports. On the team front, the Boston Bruins have named David Posternock as their new captain, a move praised for his leadership and fan appeal. Meanwhile, speculative trade rumors surface, including the Bruins’ interest in Carole Marchenko and the Blues’ pursuit of young defenseman Nikkeeshan. The Florida Panthers are seen as a high-risk team due to question marks around goal tending, with Jacob Marks under scrutiny. The show also evaluates divisions, with the Atlantic Division viewed as stronger and more competitive than the Central, where aging defense and youth depth issues may lead to a downturn. Throughout, the tone is critical of rule enforcement, emphasizing that such decisions often reflect commercial motives rather than genuine sportsmanship, while acknowledging the cultural significance of player traditions.
[MUSIC] It is Monday, September 28th, hockey week in the United States and Canada. And this is a show called "What Chaos Now" on the ringer in Boston, Massachusetts. My name is David Bean, I sit beside Pete Blackburn and holding it down in that Elliot Reed voice. I told you so, I told you so, city of champs, it's Sean Depaz. You are a fucking idiot, Sean, for days, you told me the bills were going to lose that game, hilarious. >> I don't know if I said that they were going to, but I also think the energy that you're bringing right now is not reflective of the energy that you had for a while in the text message, Shane yesterday. >> I was, I said, they're winning this game. I was mad that it kept going on, say your piece, Sean, sorry. >> No, I just don't think I ever said for sure that they, I said that it was always on the table. They absolutely could lose this game, it's the kind of game that the bills would lose. And god damn it if they didn't try their hardest too. >> But, chargers are so bad that we talked about it at dinner the other night. I was like, it's not like the bills need to really be on their shit. Like, they can play a bad game and they can fall into the trap of this game. >> We just can't lose, yeah. >> Which is, they're not going to lose the game. They'll be a little disappointing, tell you what though, my guy Herbert. I want to know what he and his boy, Mack May, are talking about these days. >> He called him Mack May now. >> Mack May, I saw, I think our boss did Drake maybe not. >> Yeah. >> That's like maybe not as getting a little generous. >> I saw an incredible tweet yesterday. I don't know if I'm allowed to repeat it, but it was like my coach is a pervert. My quarterback is redacted. >> Yeah, we're not using that anymore. >> And my owner is Netanyahu. So that's the state of the Patriots right now. >> Patriots fans, not super happy, I would say. >> No, could be worse. Chargers, chargers are fucking out. >> I said to yesterday too. >> I love it. >> I was like, we're going to tease something that's going to be on tomorrow's show. It's going to be amazing. And I was like, chargers, just suck in the beginning of the game. So I can get to work. >> They're great. >> So I don't have to watch this bullshit. >> Don't waste my time. >> They took me to the fourth quarter. Those sons of bitches, now I got extra stuff to do. I'm falling way behind. It's the first day of us being back to daily episodes. And I'm already fucking drowning. What's on the show today, Pete? >> Today on the show, Chad points out. I do sound sick. I am sick. Apologies, fighting through it. We're good to go. Great timing on behalf of my immune system. I had all summer to work. That shit out. >> You're sick. >> Oh, that was pretty good. >> That was a, do you do it again? That's how you usually get me? >> Yeah. That was that. Some pop to it. >> Today on the show, we've got new captains and guys who will never be traded. Never. New captains, we know who that is. Macklencella Braini. >> Yep. >> David Posternock. Conor Bedard, depending on where, when you rolled out of bed. Some of those are old, such as David Posternock. >> We've known that for a while. Shut out Tottenham Hotspot. >> That's true. And guys who will never be traded. I assume that's going to be about maybe hella buck, maybe Carrilmarchenko. >> No, we're going to talk about no trade clauses in the NHL and has the balance of power swung in favor of the players. >> Do they hold all the cards? We're going to have a discussion about that. >> Great. That's going to be a surprise. >> We've got tuck rule derogatory because that was the story of the weekend. As far as I'm concerned, Trevor Zegress, getting thrown in jail for a Jersey tuck, and then being a real bitch endearing about it, that was the Philadelphia Flyers' cause. >> Big time. >> I mean, I love an NHL team finding a fairly mundane cause to just hone in on during the pre-season. >> That's our kind of shit. >> What else is the pre-season for? >> Or we also like, in the regular season two. >> There. Steve Peters is going to join the show, Petey, you know him, you love him. There's only one way to kick off daily episodes and it's with a Petey episode. And Fall/Winter26 lookbook, that's because aesthetics just came out with its latest Jersey watch video. It's very, very good. And I don't say that just because we're credited in it multiple times. But it's very good, very well produced. Some interesting tidbits that we'll discuss later on in the show. >> How to feel watching that aesthetics video where they would show a clip of us and then be like, "I've since been able to confirm that." I was like, "Oh, I didn't know where that was going." >> They weren't, I never really broke a sweat. >> They were going on a Jersey. >> I mean, really broke a sweat. I did, I was like, I wonder where this is going on the sharks one because it was like, I have no information about this. But this guy has some wild shit to say. But if you want to trust the guy that only jokes, he says there's gums. And then his little partner in joking said, "Oh yeah, extra gums." >> Ginger virus forward Jersey. >> It would have been pretty crazy if they showed clips of you talking about the Jersey's. And they're like, actually, not even fucking close. You could have just left the out at that point. >> If we were had, and if we were wrong about any of the Jersey stuff, which luckily we have not been, some of the details of these jerseys would make it very, very funny. Like, if we got duped and we were like, look, I know we fuck around about everything. And we do a lot of jokes with the straight face. But I sincerely did believe there were gums all over that Jersey. >> Look, I hand up. We're just innocent men. I was had. >> Well, I'm just innocent men. >> But we weren't had. Let's start talking about these new captains because there is a Jersey tie-in big weekend for people finding out what authentic pro jerseys are. Have you seen since McLean Sullivan was named Captain? Of the sharks, which fucking rocks love it for him, love it for the sharks. A lot of folks have raced to go buy McLean Celebrity jerseys. And they've seen the authentic pro ones that are like, what, $480 bucks or something, the kind that they wear on the ice, the thick ones that they got the shit on the elbows. So when you're doing wall work, you're not going to get your jersey is not going to rip. People are pissed that that shit costs that much money. When that shit is not being sold to you, I'm looking at that. And I'm like, I think this is the year by an authentic pro jersey. >> You're going to buy an authentic pro? That's crazy. >> I think I don't know which one I'm going to finance one. I don't know if I'm going to buy one. >> Shut up, plan four. >> Yeah. >> Yo, firm. Is this where I finally get on the, the Florida wagon? >> I just, I don't think there's no need. Like unless you're a collector and you're like putting those things on display. Like if you're wearing a jersey, you don't wear jerseys famously. >> I try. So here's where I'm a fucking idiot. I'm thinking of getting an authentic pro and making that the one I wear because it takes a bit. I see I, I follow a lot of like men's fashion people and I'm not a watch guy, but they talk about watches where they're like, don't get a fucking roly and put it on display. Like where that shit, why would you buy something wearable if you're not going to wear it? And I watch that and I'm like, yeah, I'm going to get a cuspere cap in an authentic pro jersey and I'm going to wear that every day. I just feel like that is the more uncomfortable version because it's not meant to be worn casually. >> But it is like big and I think I got to try one on. I think we got to, at some point I think we're going to do some sort of like factory tour thing. See how the sausage gets made so to speak. And. >> I don't know if I want to. >> I want to. >> Why? >> I'm based on some of the sausages I mean, there's going to be bad sausages. We've all had a bad sausage every now and then, but I that shit, I think it's going to like drape on you. I don't, I don't love that the ones that are made for public consumption are like slimming. >> Slimming. >> You're going to, you're going to look like an alumni that's back for like a 20 year reunion thing where they put on the jerseys and it's just going to look like there should be pads under it. Is that bad? Probably. It's going to look like I'm getting my number retired that day. >> Yeah, like you just got Draxville on the game day set this weekend. I don't want to look. >> Yeah. >> I don't want to look this. >> Don't want to speak it on me. >> No, did you see he kind of pissed on McAfee. >> You see him take a shot at McAfee's album. >> Yeah. >> Big, big tech. >> McAfee did not know how to respond to it. It was awesome. >> Wait, who did this? >> No, no, no. Everyone loses. I will punish myself by listening to Pat McAfee's album on repeat for like 24 straight hours and then that team lost. >> It is crazy. We talked about this off the two McAfee's face, by the way. That McAfee album came and fucking went for somebody who is shoved down our throat constantly. The fact that I haven't heard word two about that album is crazy. Who could have seen that coming? I've put out music and I've heard about it like a few days later. That shit. It dropped and- >> Well, once the ESPN mandate was dropped, I think that everybody just decided to move on to other music in their library. >> It's like a reverse embargo, but you must talk about this for one and a half hours. >> Yes. >> And then once you do the line, they say the good die young and I'm afraid I'm great is legit, good, good. Once you've got that out of your system, we're not gonna be here.
here. Look, from one. Yeah. We're not going to get ESPN pissed off at us. Part of the ringer deals that ESPN people are allowed to come on with us again. Yeah. For sure. ESPN just doesn't know that. By the way, anything you don't like about the show going forward is Nora Prinsiotti's fault. Okay. As first reported by Todd Nimhotspur, David Posternock, Bruins 28th captain, right call had to be. I know that a lot of people thought that Charlie McAvoy from like year two or three with the team was tracking that way. Charlie McAvoy's become a great player. I don't think that it's got to like a slam dunk this guy's the next captain. And I think that David Posternock checks so many boxes. He hasn't won, which I like in my captains. I know that sounds stupid. Like I like when my leaders, at least one of them has come close and hasn't won because that keeps them hungry. McAvoy, you could say the same thing about. I was going to say you're counting the Olympic gold. But he has one of the Olympics. Yeah. So that's it. So that's a detraction. I like my character at the Olympics. Didn't he? He was in the Olympics. Wasn't he? Yeah. Well, that was because he's a NEPO baby. Ah, right. Yeah. I think that Posternock kind of does everything for me. He's a good ambassador. He's a fan favorite. He's seemingly really good teammate. As we found our last year, that guy yells guy yells. He does also try to doesn't try to decapitate opponents when the season is ticking down that I would consider that a positive, but a negative for Bruins captains, they are going a little outside of the norm. They're breaking from the Brad Martian tradition. Fair. Taller than Brad Martian. I meant to update the chart. But the Martian did the captain see the experience didn't go super well. Why he want a cup? Not as captain. No, but he got the sea. And then he won a cup. That's true of the same season. Oh, you're later. Yeah. It took him a little while, but all good for him. Celebrity captain of the sharks. No brainer or was it you Sean that was saying like, you can wait a minute. I just I, well, I think I'm going to set this more well in relation to the ducks too. But yeah, I just am opposed to the idea that you should just give your best young player the captain see because they are the future of the franchise. Like give it to the person who is the best leader in that moment, which is why I like that the ducks keep given it to a old guy for a year. Like wait until somebody proves that they are the captain. Don't just give it to him because somebody makes a league of changing amount of money for anxiety. Yeah. The ducks are going to have 29 captains before the Bruins do the Bruins are on the 28 captain. The ducks are going to get to 29 before Boston. It's quite possible. But in the case of the sharks, I feel like the sharks would just be delaying the inevitable and everybody would continue asking the questions. So you may as well just do it now and celebrity famously does does everything like a little bit after Bordard gets drafted. Yeah. Gets gets the kids. Yeah. Yeah. Both those things have happened in that order. Famously Connor Bordard is a year older than Macklin. Celebrity. Yeah. Here it's your saying, Sean, like shout out Joe Thornton. Did he need to be captain of the Boston Bruins as quickly as he was? I think that maybe if he weren't, he probably plays his whole career with the Boston Bruins and people don't make such a big deal out of like is this guy right for the job and instead could be like, that's an awesome player. Eventually, Macklin. Celebrity was going to be the sharp captain. And he is just so clearly the face of the team that I think it opens the question of does the face of your team have to be your captain? And to Pete's point, we live in a day and age where decisions are made based on how annoying people will be if you don't do a certain thing. And oh, yeah, people would be annoying. We like this one, but that would become a cause for us for some reason. Also, like it's a case of the sharks want Macklin Celebrity to be their leader and be their captain. So giving him the sea, even though like he may not necessarily be quote unquote ready right now, it puts him on that track to learn how to, how to be that guy. Okay, let's do will these guys ever get traded part 5,000 Elliot Freeman on 32 thoughts says the blues are seriously interested in Alexander, Nikkeeshan. I love that because we've already staked our claim and bought stocks plural. Some of you are buying stock in the blues. We like the more than you do. So we're buying stocks. Nikkeeshan getting another young defenseman back there would be awesome. My you is hurt. And I also don't know how good my you is the Rangers and the, the, the Rangers and hurricanes apparently had a deal for Nikkeeshan, but Nikkeeshan and the Rangers couldn't agree to a contract to which I say Rangers. Sign the young defenseman. How's the Andre Ward Miller working out for you? Well, in fairness, they had Andre Miller and Andre Miller found another level with he was always going to be better. Right. Yeah, I'm looking at like they should probably see the Kyandre Miller experience and be like, yeah, let's, how do you get one of them? Yeah, I mean, I just don't know what the numbers are. So I can't say like bad job by the Rangers not doing it. The Rangers did kind of already revamp their defense over this this off season. So they found another way like they got Patterson and they got Jersey. And I like their top four, honestly. So I don't know. It depends on the price, but Nikkeeshan is very, very exciting. I would love him on the blue. And he fits that we talked last week about it. The blues have a million really good young forwards age 21 to 25. I forget how old Philip Broberg is. Broberg is 25 years old. So add, start compiling that on the back end as well. And you have already think they have their like core, their window, whatever it's going to be when they're really good because they do have the hollow ways, the divorce keys, the neighbors, the the snuggler roots. They have so many young players in that age range that if they can get Nikkeeshan, perfect. Love it. Just need Joel Hofer to be a guy. And we're all rooting for him. Elliott also says that the Bruins made an offer on Carole Marchenko, but I listen to it this morning. And you can tell when Elliott has the opportunity to give hope and make something interesting because that's just Elliott. He's the best at what he does. I will say Elliott borderline clearly did not take the opportunity to suggest anything serious was happening there. He did say they made an offer and he said that Bruins fans are hounding him being like, are we getting Carole Marchenko? He did not say to which I said, oh, yeah, you are. He very much made it sound like people still think the Canadians could get him, but you can always be surprised. I'm not holding my breath. I would because you're still dying. Yeah, it's true. I would love Marchenko on the Bruins. I would as stated on Twitter, blast my pants into Neptune. Would love to do that. Would love for that to happen. I'm just trying to think of what the Bruins could offer the Blue Jackets that could not be instantly beat by like a half dozen other teams. Higgins and yeah, that's already starts now. That's the thing. Some of these deals and some of these players, like, especially when it comes to Marchenko, the teams that I've heard are in on Marchenko and have called on Marchenko, you know, due diligence. You got to say, hey, we want Marchenko, but so many of them, I'm like, no, stop. There's our Kiprio said the Oilers are right on them. And I'd be like, okay, well, then give me Matt Savoy and the Oilers would say, no, we can't give you Matt Savoy. To the Bruins, they would say, give me Higgins and stuff. And the Bruins would say, we can't give you Higgins. Okay, that's why some trade partners are compatible. I don't see the Bruins as a compatible trade partner. Unless they want to get real ridiculous and just like, offer just a ton of shit and like, whether it's first round picks or whatever, but like, it sounds like Columbus wants now players. Who you offering in terms of now players, you can give them Zaka if you want. Mason-Lorai, Matthew Potra, like, and then maybe you sweeten the pot with like a Dean Latino. And you take Miles Wood or something. They, the Blue Jackets already have Pothel Zaka's. Yeah, I know. They've been getting those guys for like, time and time again, they proved that they love those guys. Yeah, they get them. Okay, we got one of them. It doesn't help that there's the follow tracker thing. Everyone's following with each other and playing footsies online. Dale, Dan Milstein, who we like the behavior, but I'll say it's, I don't want to say it's getting to be a little much, but I just can't tell what's going on. I like a joke when I think I kind of understand it. That guy's just fucking around. Yeah, I don't, I don't really love having my agents fuck around on Twitter, not in the way that Dan Milstein's do it. Alan Walsh, absolutely. Oh, yeah. His Rumpestime on Twitter is just unhinged and fucking you. Yeah, like, that's what I want for my agents. I don't want my agents like throwing out smoke screens or doing the gift game. No, that's not for me. Yeah, I think you should be allowed like one eyeball emoji per year on social media. Yeah, yeah, Sean. Unless you're Kevin Weeks, and that's kind of your whole thing. That's got to do it. I was going to say, I know Pete saw it because he retweeted the tweet, but did you see the, you brought up the follow tracker? You see what kind of go TA did this weekend? He unfollowed. Who do you have follow of a dark and just a dark, which speaking of which breaking news, The New York Giants
have traded for a quarterback and his name is JJ fucking McCarthy. No way JJ McCarthy is start going to be the future of the New York Giants for the rest of the year at least. That's that sounds like a horrible future area. Yeah. It sounds awful. That has, I mean, JJ McCarthy looks like Zach Wilson. It's just going to be Zach Wilson again in New York. Different in. Yeah, plays like Zach Wilson looks like Zach Wilson. Elliott also says the hurricanes are still trying to get Connor Hellbuck. My answer is why like I know you just showed you can do it without him. Yeah. And at minimal cost like the hurricanes becoming the team that is volunteering to like pay for a goalie would very much surprise me. Yeah, I still need to see what hellbucks actually going to cost because there was obviously the shit at the draft that proved to be not as crazy a package as it sounded like, but I don't know. I've found the hurricanes. I would ride it out. You have two good young cheap goalies. Sean, you got some? I was just, I don't know if I agree. Like I get that they obviously want to cup with Busy, but he was also pretty bad for stretches of that season. Like he wasn't the one that got them there. I would say that he was bad. I think that just like Freddy got the net by the end. I guess, but he just it was a clear like he was their backup. It wasn't like a one A one B thing. And he played great in the cup final obviously, but like, I don't know. I could see I could see Tolsky just being like, maybe we got a little a little lucky there and wanting to shore that up. Like obviously, depending on the cost, but I would not be I'd be mad because the best team in the league got the best goalie on the league, potentially, but I would I would see why they would want to do that. That would feel like a move strictly to mag the Panthers to be like, oh, this is the other team that's considered the favorite in the Eastern Conference. They got no fucking goal tending. How will we go and get? And that's how the other red socks sign Karl Crawford. I guess like defensive acquisition. Getting him so the other team can't. Yeah, that happens. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, like it would if you think there's a real chance that the Panthers end up with him. Why not make your team better and also prevent the Florida Panthers from getting a real goalie. And that's all the Boston Red Sox get Karl Crawford. Most importantly, as the season is about to begin, this bullshits back. We have the money puck playoff odd circle chart thing. Oh, yeah, feast your eyes on that. Pete, you don't have your cheaters on. So you can't really see. Even if I was that looking looks fucking like a pie. Here's what we're not going to do. We're not going to say the Vegas Golden Knights have an 8.3% chance at making the cup or winning the cup to the Oilers 5.4%. I will fall for this chart every single year. And I will look at and say, here's what we're not going to do. We're not going to, oh, I mean, we are apparently giving the Columbus Blue Jackets a 45.8% chance in making the playoffs. That's surprising. I love that for them. 41.9 for my Winnipeg Jets. I just noticed how big that that Sabers section is, which is the biggest it's ever been in my lifetime. Yeah, I can't help but notice that the Chicago Black Hawks is 12 miniscule. No, 12.8. It's not the smallest is the smallest Detroit. No, oh, Detroit is, no, no, the smallest is Vancouver and he's gotten the and the flames are both smaller than them. The 10.7. The flames have 10.4. No, it calls it the the donated the donated to charity slice. He said, I went to a pizza place and a guy gave me slice that if the pizza were a pie chart for what you would, what someone would do if they won the lottery. Motherfucker gave me the donated to charity slice. I would like to exchange this for the keep it. Yeah. Yeah, people forget. Yeah, we walked down a escalators that became Stairs at the Boston Logan Airport. Best feeling. Sorry for the convenience. Love that shit. Sends. Pete Sends getting a 62.4% chance. I think I'm in on this chart. Ducks at 51.9. Ooh, this is a big ass chart of here's what we're not doing. Are the Ottawa Senators better than the Buffalo Savers? A chance to make it the playoffs. Yeah, yeah. Maybe you should have said Alex Tuck. Everything about it. Like Ottawa Senators, the couple should have kept all of them. I do love saying we're not doing this. And then I do have to mention. Why is the attribution on that to Gritty? That's you know, hand up. That's what we have. We have just been blasting out Money Buck. It seems like he was really busy over the weekend fighting for another cause and then just really pivoted quite strongly to Money Buck updates. Gritty's like, we got a 20.1% chance of reaching the second round. What do you all think? Hand up. That's on me. We do have something that is attributed to Gritty later on in the show. I don't know if you play that using it or not. But yeah, it'll just carry over. It's very wonderful. Here's what we are or are in doing, Pete. Are we given the LA Kings a 53.9% chance of making the playoffs? I'm not going to say no. Like, I'm not going to, I'm not going to confuse my distaste for watching the LA Kings and their style of hockey with they don't stand a chance of making the playoffs. As we've seen, yeah, they can be the most excruciating experience in the entire National Hockey League. Still find their way into that dance, pal. Tell you what, they got my St. Louis or our St. Louis Blues at a 42.2% chance of making the playoffs. And it's not telling me the number for their chances of winning the cup, but don't sleep y'all. Okay. Very, very good. Let's get to the real story in the NHL right now. The NHL told teams and players this preseason that for this year, they will be enforcing the NHL's rule that forbids tucking jerseys during gameplay. The rules states that a player's jersey must be untucked to begin their shift. Players are given a verbal warning for a first infraction and a minor penalty for a second infraction. This rule has existed and this rule has largely been ignored because good players tucking their jerseys looks sick. Sean, can you give me Leon? Leon, biased, but like, Leon is my favorite example of tucking the jersey. He said better looks than this specific one. Shout out Paul Swanson on the pick, though. Amazing. He did our Gene Prince of Pay photo shoot on our last lookbook. Leon Tux, famously, Geno Malkin Tux. And that's just, that's how you envision those players. Alex O'Vetchkin, I always associated with tucking. And Sean told me that in recent years, he actually hasn't talked, but here's what he looked like back when he did. So Sean, I suppose if I ask you, does Alex tuck your answer is no? I mean, Alex doesn't talk, but he is tuck. Excuse me? Alex is tuck. This Alex, maybe not, but there is an Alex. Oh, there isn't. Oh, there's a player called Alex tuck. Okay. All right. Thursday night, Trevor Zegris got called for it during a flyer's preseason game. Hit us with the video, Sean. Arm goes up. And we have a penalty. With the Tyson Forester, who just skated by also was taught. Isaac pausing for drama here. And because Trevor Zegris had something to say. Of all the times. No, no, finally, number 46. Your man's for improperly wearing the helmet. Oh, here we go. What the hell? Of all the times for Trevor Zegris to not break shit in the penalty box. Seriously, put him on my clothing. All right, that then became the Philadelphia flyers number one cause. On Saturday, players took warm ups with their jerseys tucked in protest of Zegris's penalty, to which I say, I don't think everybody understands here. You're allowed to. It's the tuck rule is, it has to be tucked. It has to be untucked at the beginning of your ship. You can do whatever you want during warm ups. Yeah, famously, that's when they wear all the fucked up jerseys. Yeah, the, not all the fucked up jerseys. No, famously, they don't wear the fucked up ones anymore. I was talking about the, the, the military ones. That's where they wear the crazy jerseys. The 1000 ones. That's where they wear the ones that the NHL would consider fucked up. That's why they relegated them to warm ups. Yes, yes. And then they banned them because they thought they were so fucked up that they didn't even want them in the building. So that didn't really matter or do anything, but Gritty did get on, get in on the action. He, I mean, that just looks good. So I know Gritty's trying to be silly, but what's on? No, I just, if you had, if you had asked me, I would have not realized that Gritty didn't tuck his jerseys. That looks like, that just looks like how Gritty normally looks to me. Yeah, exactly. If somebody was like, what's the. funny about this picture. I'd be like, I don't know that there are fans at a preseason game. I would not, that would not strike me as anything crazy. Yeah, not at all. Our friend Lisa, or before we get to this, I'll show the, or I'll have Sean show the Zegris Instagram story. Zegris was also in on this posting that he's been tucking since he was knee-high to a grasshopper. I don't know why that matters because it's still not allowed. Like, I don't think you can get grandfathered because of what you were doing in mites. But yeah, he was tucking. I will say, I love Trevor Zegris. I've always wanted only a few, like I liked that this was a rule that some players disobeyed. And I think there's, it's kind of got to be a short list. And I, I'll barely put Zegris on that list, but like Leon gets to do that. Ovechkin, if you want, gets to do that. Gino, yeah, whatever, who cares? I don't want everyone doing that. I want it to be, 'cause it's like part of some of these players charm that they know the rules and they don't give a fuck. And they're like, Leon Dry's idle is like, "Ref, you're gonna come over to me and talk to me about my jersey because I know your least fucking favorite thing to do is ever talk to me because you always have to kick me out and face off dots and you are scared shitless of me." I like that a few guys are doing that. I don't want everyone talking. - Sure, but doesn't the fact that they penalized Trevor Zegris in a preseason game and then it came out afterwards that like this is a mandate that is being enforced by the NHL this season suggests that no matter who you are, whether you're Leon Dry's idle, whether you're any of these other players, you're gonna get dinged if you tuck your jersey. Like this is going to take it away for at least that the start of shifts for all of these players. - That's what I'm saying, I hate that. But I'm saying like a lot of people are like, but tucking is cool, everyone should be, I don't think everyone should be allowed to do it. And yeah, Chad is saying DJ promotes inequality. In this case, I do. I think this should be something kind of like when players are grandfathered with the shield. - Yeah, but that's also like every player in like the NFL can wear a smoked visor. But if you're like the 53rd guy on the roster and you wear a smoked visor and you're all like dripped out and you barely on the team and not playing, you look like a fucking loser. - It's about a second, yeah. - You gotta know your role, like, and I think that. - So that police is itself, you think? - Exactly, yeah. So I don't like policing the jersey tuck as long as guys aren't being absolutely ridiculous about it and like shoving it all the way down their pants. And I especially don't like it for the reason that was thrown out there at the beginning of before we got on the show between you guys, which is that like, they're trying to sell jersey ads on that space. Is that why they're starting to enforce this? If that's the case, fuck all the way off. - Yeah, credit to our friend Lisa from writer and Lisa who has surmised, maybe this is because they got use for that part of the jersey. They're trying to put ads there. I would not be in on that, but if I did buy a jersey while those ads existed, I would probably insist upon getting the one with the ad on it. Because I would want it to be screen seen. No, I don't like that. I don't know some people were tweeting at me saying like, "Hey, what about Brad Martian?" Don't you want him to be able to tuck? For me, the Brad Martian look is unzipping the inside of the pants. - To me, the Brad Martian look is rolling up the jersey sleeves and wearing the most disgusting gloves you've ever seen. - Yeah, Brad Martian's got enough. I think that he will be just fine not doing any sort of tuck. Quite frankly, I don't even know if I, I only know if I knew that he tucked the jersey in. When I think of Brad Martian, you know what I'm talking about with the pants? The hockey pants have a zipper on the inside and he just has it completely unzipped. So his hockey pants are just kind of flapping around and it looks a bit like a golden retriever puppy, how it looks like they're skin and everything. It's just too big for them. It's very adorable. That's what he's got going on in the bottom regions. Really good. The tuck is the weirdest case, I think, of something that is retro, but also has aged completely timelessly throughout sports. When I see somebody with a jersey tuck, I'm thinking about somebody in the '80s. I mean, like Gretzky tucked. - Yeah. - And it's just has not aged out at all and it just has only become cooler. - Yeah. - I start commenting on like Trevor Zegris' Instagram posts about this with like, do a Ralph Talk next game. - I mean, the best Trevor Zegris Instagram post, by the way, was he had those two pictures of one. He was playing youth hockey and then the third one was a screenshot of the Brady tuck rule. - Yeah, so that was the good tuck rule. That was the good tuck rule. We can all agree. The bad tuck rule is this one. All right, we asked Sean. - No, I was gonna, like, what were your thoughts on? Like, I thought it was incredibly lame that they made such a big deal out of it. I thought they were being a bunch of cry babies. - Oh, flyers? - They were active. Yeah, they were active, like it was the, it was like the, like MLB a few weeks ago when they had the guy got yelled at for tilting this hat and then everybody was like, everyone tilted their hat to protest. I guess that's not the same thing. There's way more than that. - I don't know. I mean, far be it from me to shit on anything that highlights how ridiculous sports can be. Like the fact that an entire team came out with the social cause and our activists and making sure that the Jersey tuck can prevail. I like that. - I also want to tweet it with the picture of Nancy Pelosi kneeling in the Capitol with the pan-African scarf during the 2020 and I'm like, that's what they thought they were doing. They thought they were like, they really thought they were doing something and that's what's funny to me. - It's pre-season, man. It's pre-season. Let them find a stupid cause that doesn't really matter. And whether someone thinks they're cooking relative to if they're cooking or not, we just, we don't want any material, we don't want just any material. But like, this has been a fun story to keep an eye on. Even if most things that I that fascinate me don't involve a hundred percent cool points across the board and usually take some ridiculous stuff. Like that, the Western mass, the Greenfield lesbian bar story was I think a national phenomenon because there was so much that people didn't understand that people were like, oh, I'm not seeing this type of shit in my backyard. It's all, you know, like, it doesn't need to be something that you're totally like, oh yeah. That really all tracks a hundred percent with me. - I want them to like lean into it even further. Like, I want it to be in December and I want this team like putting out statements about - Well, Trevor Zegris was penalized in the preseason. I want this to be like there us against the world. Nobody believes in us. - That is, that's fine to me. Like that's the, that if they lean all the way into it, but like this to me strikes me as like the, maybe the baseball reference. It's like the first game after the Donald Sterling thing where all the players like lead their juice. Like I thought it really, to me, it like they thought they were actually transgressed against. - Soap Salonto clocked it perfectly. It was a high school walkout. - Yes. - The problem is that when high school is do walkouts, they think they're actually accomplished. Like, it's a serious thing. That's all I'm saying. It's like, I did one and I was just, I was like, I cannot be in the score right now. - I too am out of here, folks. - Here's the thing. That's the same energy as a high school walkout, but you're forgetting that the flyers bring a different kind of energy. - Yes. - So they're bringing a different kind of energy to the school walkout and I like that. - And yes, exactly. And they've got a lot of they think they cooked and didn'ts before we're worried about them. - There they are. - We hold them in very high esteem right now. Last thing I want to say on the Jersey tuck thing, making certain players do it is really giving Charles Minor making Dwight wear long sleeves. Do you remember this Pete? - Make it hoot. - Do you remember? So Dwight always wears the short sleeves. And Charles Minor comes in and he makes him wear long sleeves and the whole fucking time, he's like, - But who's making players tuck? Or are you saying making players untuck? - Making players untuck. Like, I'm sure that Leon will be fine. And quite frankly, I still think somehow Leon's just gonna tuck and not get penalized for it. I don't know why, but I feel like he's still just gonna like breeze past through this. A breeze right past this. But yeah, like this is people in their element. This is how they've been operating for so long. You can't take them out of their natural habitat. - We'll see. We'll see if this becomes a pivotal point of contention in the next CBA. - I did think about that. I was like, is the players, they might try and sneak that in? Let them tuck. - All right, let's get to Pete. Our dear friend from inside the coach's room, long time video coach of the Arizona Coyotes, hockey week, first episode that we're doing with the ringer, tried to make sure that we kept this as what chaos is possible. So we spent too much time on a stupid rule that nobody. what he really cares about and we talk to PD. That's how we do it. Folks, PD, welcome friend. Well, I will say this. I do care about the rule. One of the very few people that care about it and I know advertising if that happens, you're right. Way wrong. But as a video guy, dude, you know how hard it is to see some of these numbers? It's unbelievable. They're doing it for referees to be able to call penalties that you're doing it for the fans in the seats that can recognize players. You cannot see numbers anymore. And I think Natfay Michkoff, you can barely see his name, his jerseys tucked in so far. So, I'm apparently, people getting lost so much weight. That's true. He looks good. Let's go. It's so flyers fans can get off my back. I'm ready. So yeah, it's time. Let's go. All right. You are working this hurricane's Panthers game on ESPN Tuesday. Which of these teams is scarier? This is really hard. And I think right now to start the season, it's the Florida Panthers. And I think the Florida Panthers for a couple of reason. I think the additional Brady could Chuck helps their offense, which they sorely lack last year. But the bigger issue is they're healthy, at least mostly healthy. Brad Martian's out to start the season for the first month. But they're going to be physical. They have something to prove. I am concerned about their goal tending a little bit. But the Florida Panthers to me are scary. The problem with Carolina, not a problem. It do it. It's the same team running the same system with the same coach successful last year. They stayed healthy. They made it through the whole season playing Rod, Brenda Mohawkie, and staying healthy. The concern in Carolina. It's funny. Most of their top players played one preseason game. And I think you I know there's no nine or 10 games this year, but I'm playing only one game for their top players on the roster. Could see some dust getting shaken off in game one. You don't need to play in the preseason. Shut up, Drake May, Matt Jones. Yeah, it looks good. I mean, the biggest, the biggest Achilles heel as it looks right now on the Panthers is goal tending and you're a big goal tending guy. How much of a concern, or how concerned are you with Jacob Marks from being the guy in net for Florida? Yeah, a little bit. I mean, we talked about Bob Robsky having one of his worst career years last year. Well, Marksdom did too. And I think he's going to have a lot to prove. And unfortunately, he didn't give me the big warm fuzzies and preseason. And I know it's only pre seasons, but I don't think he was great. Could be a problem. However, this is a team that's going to limit their defensive zone time. They're going to limit their defensive zone chances. This is a team that defends very similar to Carolina. So I think those top quality scoring chances from in tight are going to be limited. And that's going to be good for Marksdom. I am concerned. That is the biggest question mark of this team going in. They'll be able to score. They're going to be able to be physical. They're going to be able to be strong on the power play. They defend incredibly well. Can they stop the puck? You're right. The biggest question mark in Florida absolutely is Marksdom. Okay. I'll throw out something that we've talked about a little last couple of weeks. If you were the Panthers, would you have traded that pick and what you traded for Brady Kachak for Kachak? Or would you have gone out in God and Connor Halibuk? Because there is only like this team is amazing, but there is a hole. And if they got Connor Halibuk, there wouldn't be any holes. My answer by the, I would have still gotten Kachak. Yeah, we've had this debate on this show before is how important is that top goal tender? And I say it over and over again, you need good goal tending to win. The great goal tender helps you games one through 82, but in the playoffs, you can take bussy. He was great, but during the regular season, like he's he's he's he's good. And Kemper wins it. He's good. The best goal he's in the league statistically don't win the cup. It's happened twice in the last 10 years. It doesn't happen often. So for me, Kachak means more to this team than a Halibuk move would be. But now there are teams and I'm hearing a lot of rumblings with Halibuk in Utah. Now that's where it makes a difference. We're a team that's not quite good enough offensively, not quite good enough defensively that they're they're you know, an eight through 12 team. Halibuk really helped propel them into that talk conversation. Okay, now they they can compete maybe higher in the Western conference. So I think there are teams where he is more suited to make a bigger impact than he would have in Florida. Halibuk in Utah. Yeah, I mean, I love that. Where I'll push back is like, I just want to ask like, you mentioned the examples of like great teams that won with good goal tending. Would you not consider the Panthers currently before the Brady Kachak trade to be great? Like that would be a great team adding a great goal tender. So that's why I leaned on the side of the Halibuk thing, where like I don't think that Brady Kachak elevates them quite as much as Connor Halibuk would in an area where they need it. Yeah, and again, we're talking about Halibuk coming off one of his worst career years. Does he move the unit? He probably does, but but look at what Florida went through last year and their depth was really tested a year ago with all of their major injuries. And that could be a concern again this year because of the style of play. Does Brady Kachak help solidify that if they do have someone go down possibly? I like the physicality of this team. This team is going to be scary when they jump over the boards and you're right. Does Halibuk move the needle in the back end? Does their goal again? It's dropped. It probably does. I really like the Kachak move over the goal tending move of Halibuk, but Markson was going to have to be at least good. And right now I'm not convinced he's going to be. Okay, so I want to ask about Halibuk in Utah. Do you think Halibuk going to Utah? We obviously wouldn't know what they would have to give up, but like, does that push them to challenging the top three teams in the central as we kind of guess with Dallas, Colorado and Minnesota? I really like Utah. I think they're one of the teams that are still up and coming. You looked at their additions in the back end of Trollcheck and Lee, and I think that brings some some maturity to their locker room. I think that's really good. Vamelka is hotter cold for me. Like Vamelka can be great, but he can be awful. And so I think that upgrade really helps on the back end for a team that struggles at times defensively. I think the package includes a center iceman. I think it would be Schmaltz, but he's got the no trade. I think that would work for Winnipeg. So you're probably looking at a Barrett Hayton. You're looking at a young stud defenseman. You're looking at Vamelka. And probably a draft pick. Does that impact Utah? I mean, Hayton's a bottom six kid that's going to work really hard. I'm not sure that's going to be a big loss for them. Vamelka serviceable on a Winnipeg team that's not going to be in the playoffs this season. So I do think that that's realistic. And I do think that it could bring a pretty good return back to Winnipeg. Winnipeg doesn't need Vamelka. They already have a goalie. People love to do their brother. And how could they not? Yeah, there you go. But they will give them the rest of both of those two gold centers. I think Vamelka had one of the biggest workloads in all hockey last year. And I think Stu is better when he's getting his rest to. I think if you put those two as a tandem, serve it better than serviceable. That is one of the better one two punches in the league than where you have, you know, one A, one B or one and one B, one B. Like I do think that does help wouldn't be all seriousness. I don't know what they're getting for. Hello, Buck, but I am keeping an eye on the Jets. Like I am not writing the Jets off this season. And eventually I will, because they'll probably miss the playoffs. But I think that depending on what they get, I think that, yeah, if they just get anything up front, I like their defense. I think that whatever ends it, like I think that Stu can put up the numbers that he'll have a partner who will probably let him rest a little bit. I'm not, I'm not totally, totally out on the Jets. I am it. Yes. Chats pointing out that Utah can't trade Hayton because he's, he signed that deal. Yeah, they matched a, did they match an offer sheet? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. See, that's where the Chats better than me. And well, we knew that already. That was not a very, that's a low bar for me. But yeah, you're right. I don't know if they want a center iceman coming back and right now, they're not trading Cooley. They can't trade Schmaltz. And if they can't trade Hayton, they just got TRO check. So maybe my dream of Hello, Buck, to you, to might just died. What do you see with the St. Louis Blues? Because we are increasingly hot on on St. Louis. Yeah. I know. I've heard you guys talk about the St. Louis Blues. I think they're, why are you being such a bitch about the Blues? I think the Blues are going in the right direction. I don't think they're, they're yet. They're goals for their 24th goals against their 20th. Bennington off his worst career sees and the mis the playoffs only by four points. And are they better? Gosh, when you lose, you know, the forward and Kyru that puts up those kind of numbers, you have to replace it with somebody. And I think this team can with their young talent. And I think their, their offer sheets made this team so much better. Two of their best players are from those offer sheets. I'm not convinced they're deep enough right now in a, in the central that needs to be deep. The problem for St. Louis isn't that they're not better because they are. The problem is, they still have to compete against Minnesota, Dallas, Colorado. And I'll even put Utah in there. So I, I think St. Louis could sneak in. I think they could be one of those surprise teams. But you look at that back end. I guess Carlo coming in as a big guy secures that third pairing. I'm not convinced they can defend well enough if Bennington isn't at his complete best. I don't think this team makes the playoffs this year. I think it'll be cloaks. I think they're on the rise. I just don't think it's this year. Are we overstating the demise of the ducks and the answer to that is no, right? Yeah, no, this is a problem. This, this, this team for all they went through in the summer. First of all, they could have avoided all of this problems financially. If they reacted quickly to Leo Carson and even Carter Goche, they could have had better team friendly deals doing that earlier. Troy Terry's hurt. And if you go look at their top six defenseman, three of them are 23 years old that really don't have that resume in the national hockey league yet. You know you need to defend in the national hockey league. I am excited.
extremely concerned for a team that didn't defend well last season with veteran defensemen trying to think that they're going to be better defensively put in these young kids of lineup. Now down the road two, three years, these 23 year olds are now 27 maybe, but this team is going to have to outscore so many problems on the back end. I think this is the team that takes a step backwards this year. It is crazy. Like their oldest defenseman is Nick Jensen, who's 36 and then they don't have another defenseman who's over 25. That's crazy. You know, you're talking about Jackson Lakom, he's really good defenseman, his best years are still to come. I really like Jackson Lakom, but he can't carry this team completely by himself. And with the money that they've tied up in those top two forwards, man, there's not a lot left of that pie to spread around. So this is how teams I think are going to get built over this next year, two years, as you're going to see as the cap rises, these contracts are getting silly. And you still got to find a way to fill at bottom six and fill that last pair of defense. Let me ask you, what do you think the best division in hockey is because last year, I think everybody kind of looked at the central because they had that big headed, the three headed monster at the top. But then everybody looked at the Atlantic and they were like, there's a lot of good teams in the Atlantic, too. So is it a two horse race between those two and which one do you like? Yeah, I really, I really like the Atlantic this year. And I think Buffalo maybe falls off a little bit. Sorry, Sean, but they're still good. Tampa, this is it. Like this is the year, this, their window's closing. Like Tampa has to be better. I put all my chips in on Tampa early in the season last year. I won't do that this year. Montreal, same roster, talented team, coached well, works incredibly hard. I think Boston is better. Utah, I think dropped off, but Florida and Toronto both are going to be vying for that top spot in the in the Atlantic. This is a tough division. I mean, I see five teams that could win the Atlantic. The central, a little worrisome in the top teams that we've talked about. I think Minnesota took a step backwards. I think loss of Zooka Rello and Johansson are going to hurt their offense. Dallas and Colorado didn't do much to go, hey, wow, like the good teams Colorado, I had winning the cup last year. Obviously they didn't, I think the goal to any in Colorado is going to have to be better than what we saw in the playoffs. They were great games one through 82 and I'm a fan of both of those guys. I think Wedge would probably should have got the hook a little earlier in that series. But I don't think there is daunting as they were a season ago. So that's the division. I'll go with the Atlantic in the East. Well, what do you think of like the, how do you put it? Of like the asshole teams in the Western conference. That's the oilers. That's the golden nights. That's the, I'm going to throw the sharks in there. The sharks. Oh, no, no, like I'm thinking, what would the asshole like they're always there and I will not call them the asshole teams. I'll say like the stars, the oilers, the nights, the kind of always in the mix, but not to be taken quite as seriously as the avalanche teams. Pete and I will workshop what we will call that group. But I think like you kind of know what I'm talking about. You do. And it's funny because I'm my sheet DJ. I've separated teams and I try to put them in groupings. And for me in the West right now, Colorado is ahead. And it's a clear demarcation between them and the next row of teams. And that next row is Edmonton Dallas Vegas and Minnesota and Utah, maybe are that next tier down Minnesota that was a team that was fighting to be in that Edmonton Dallas Vegas mix. I just don't think that they did enough over the summer to do that. So you're right. Edmonton, Dallas and Vegas are three teams that you look at and you go, eh, but you know, come, come playoffs. They're going to be there. And they're going to be teams that are by the time they get to playoff time. They're going to be teams that could compete for a cup. Edmonton has got to get in and get through their first rounds. And you saw it when they went to the cup two years ago, how much better they went as the playoffs progressed to a team that learned to defend better. They just have to kind of model through a regular season to find their way. They're going to find their line matchups. They're going to have to find out how they defend. They have to work on a new coach and new systems under Babcock. They got to work in a new goal tender. So I think you're going to see a little bit of a roller coaster for Edmonton early, but you know, they're going to level out. They're going to find their way. And that's absolutely going to be a team. They might not be a team that wins their division in the Pacific, but their team is going to be difficult to reckon with in the playoffs. If you're on that coaching staff and I will say I'm already getting Babcock pilled that he gives a fucking charming press conference. And uh, everyone knows my thoughts on Mike Babcock, but I'm watching his press conferences right now. And I'm like, ooh, he seems really high on all of his players. He's saying nice things about all of them. It seems like a what's going to say? It's a pretty jovial guy. I was going to say that's because the season hasn't started yet, but that's never stopped from losing a job before. Yes. Exactly. I mean, he's already this is unprecedented territory. He is. He's made it to the start. He is already coached multiple. I'm not trying to flex. And I know I'm a little biased here. Oilers fan, but like he's coached multiple preseason games. Okay. Very good. Without a hitch. Yeah. But something he's doing is dry saddle, Mick David at home. I think in an effort to strengthen all the other muscles of the team because you're kind of throwing the kids into the pool and saying here, learn how to swim. If you're on that coaching staff and head coach says, okay, we're loading up. We're doing these two. What are you thinking? Are you talking shit about him behind his back and saying like, God, we should really be spreading out the wealth. This is hard because one of the knocks against Edmonton has always been their depth. Can they can their bottom six support their top six and has been a problem. Now it's got to have the bottom nine support the top three. Let's face it, that is going to be one of the most dangerous lines in hockey this season. If they're all clicking this line can score every time over the boards, but then what happens? The good news is I think Babcock's plan is to manage ice time better. And one of the problems in Edmonton, Mick David and Dry saddle, beaten so much ice that by the time the playoffs come, these guys are burnt. So I think that that may help. I like the one to punch. I like throw out two centers that can get the job done, can dry saddle, score every shift with Mick David. The answer is yes. Can Nugent Hopkins carry Howard and Hyman? I don't know yet. I think if I'm playing against them and I'm in the coach's room of their opponent, this makes my checking line an easy decision. I mean, this is we know where we're going. We know where my top defense pair are going. I think that makes it easier on the opponent, the opponent on how to deal with that team and how to defend that team. I am just so mad at peace. So distracted by I'm looking at Sean's video, which is not on screen right now. Sean is just going through all of the comments saying, DJ, no, about the Babcock thing. He has the biggest smile on his face just clicking each one of them to put them up on streaming. It's like the I don't know if I've ever seen the chat. This aligned. It is just all the exact same message. Yeah. And what is that message? Because I'm confused about the Babcock thing still. I still think it was a horrible hire. I wasn't horrible hire. Not the energy. I'll tell you this, DJ, the people in the organization and I've talked to some people there that are giving me glowing reports on what he's been like inside the room. And I'm moderately stunned. I still think that the experiment's going to fail. I think the Edmonton Oilers and I wanted to say this publicly somewhere. And I think the chaos the best way to say it. I think by the middle of November, the Edmonton Oilers are near first place in the Western Conference. I think the first four weeks of my Babcock is going to rejuvenate them. I think you're going to see a better dry set. I'll better make David. I think this team is going to come out like gang podsters because they believe in their new systems. And then it's going to fall apart because of the way Babcock's treats players lower in the lineup. And I think by January and February, guys are going to be tired of it. And I think they're going to be tired of being called out, singled out. And the separation between the top players and the bottom players will widen. And I think they're going to have some problems inside that locker room. I may be wrong. But at least I've said this. I think all four of us have said that. I just don't know the timeline. Like there's going to be a oilers are going to win the president's trophy thought at some point because it's going to look good really. It's going to look good out of the gate. And I said it last week, a lot of these guys have written a fucking check that they can't come out and look terrible here or reflects poorly on them. Dry side old Mick David, Hyman, all the guys that vouched for. I mean, Hyman in front of the show, but like he's like in family business with the Babcock family. So they need this to look good and to work. I still hate the signing. I still wouldn't have done it. Yeah. I mean, I just don't know what the timeline is because we know that we know guys across the league who have a reputation of wearing the tread thin with Bruce Cassidy. Other other guys across the league that you towards, you know the formula, you know the stages of this thing and how it works. But like Bruce Cassidy gets two, two and a half good seasons out of his team. And then they just get sick of him and tune him out and then he gets fired. Yeah. I don't know how long that is for Babcock. Sean, what's the best comment so far? Was it DJ stands for Donald day Trump? Yeah. I like the best one or that you got Babcocked. I know. I see. I liked DJ has Babcock homes. Yeah. That's a good answer. I'm not a Babcock guy, but when I do watch these press conferences, because back when I covered hockey physically, I was like, and I didn't know the shit that had yet to emerge about how he treated his players. I would love to Babcock press conferences because I was like, this is a cool guy to chat with. He's really cool.
courteous. He really thinks and really, really gives you, he gives you an answer that you think, oh man, I'm going to use that quote. That's really good. And he's doing the same shit now. And he was doing that back when he was abusing players. So I'm not happy that he's the coach. Okay. And my conference, Babcock is he the same guy, this locker room Babcock. I mean, the thing he's saying is smooth, charismatic manner, the saying all the right things, absolutely the right things when the camera's on is that the same thing being said when the locker room door is shut. And if it is, maybe, if not, maybe Trotter Reload jumps to Edmonton and takes his team in the playoffs and picks up a game one round one of the playoffs. I don't know. And all seriousness, I think you're right. I think dry saddle is dry saddle is the player to me that is not going to like a coach pushing on him that hard all season long. I think dry settles where the rumblings will start to occur. McDavid can handle anything. McDavid, I'll do it, work harder, skate harder, play more. McGet yes or yes or yes or I think dry settles going to go hang on. Dude, you see my, my, my stats over the last few years, I'm okay. Like back off. I think it's going to be dry saddle. Again, saying that I don't understand that psychopaths are charming. That's not always the case. Pete is the most charming fucking person I've ever met. How do you explain that? Okay. There you go. There's just a charming guy. That's right. You are snake oil salesman, whatever it may be. You mentioned Sean's Buffalo Sabers taking a step back. The way I've kind of thrown it around is they made a lot of moves that I would have made, but a lot of them made the Morse this year. I think they're still a playoff team. Do you think, what do you think they are? This is one of the teams I'm confused at how to rate this Buffalo team because I think that they did lose some, when you lose Alex talking, you lose a leader like that. I think that is a problem in your locker room. I do worry about the goal tending. I think that could be a problem there for Buffalo. This is all about how much better their young players can be. How big of a step can Benson take Norris take Josh Don who came out and performed much better than expected out of Utah. Can Peyton Krebs take another step? Tage, which Tage Thompson we're going to see this team can be good. They can be a playoff team. I don't think they're going to be as powerful and as threatening as you saw as the season progressed last year. Maybe they're the same as they were a year ago, but I don't think this team is making any leapsome bounds to be a team to be challenged at the top of these three conference. Goddamn. I'm sorry. Sean. Sean's not along. Yeah. No. I mean, it's, I still think that like the thing that it's thrown me off about the Buffalo Sabers is that apparently the Ottawa 100ers are better than them now. Not sure I agree with that. I'm famously out on the Ottawa 100ers, but otherwise, yeah. I mean, I said before, the Sabers can absolutely miss the playoffs is entirely on the table. And by I would be, I'd be way more shocked by them winning the division. Again, then I would be by them the missing the playoffs, but I still think they should make the playoffs. I feel like the Atlantic has just found a lot of teams like the level of the water leveling out where it's like the Sabers got a little bit worse. I don't know what to expect out of the Canadians, but I know that the Panthers are probably going to be better. I don't know what to expect. The more I think about it, I don't know what to expect out of the lightning. I don't know. It's like a wall paper to me right now. I feel like that's a little too disrespectful. Like I just think that like the lightning are going to be like business like I don't know how seriously I'm going to take their ceiling, but they're business like I think they're going to manage during the regular season. I just feel like all of these teams in the in the Atlantic pretty much like literally all of them will be okay during the regular season. Maybe with the exception of the Detroit Red Wings. That's the only one that I look at and go. Yeah, it's probably not going to go super well. I hear that. It's funny. It's funny when you talk about the Atlantic and who could win it? Like honestly, like if Swamon starts off better than he had the start last year, Boston is going to push and be better. Montreal, you know how they're going to play. Tampa Bay has to be better than they were if Edmund can be part of their roster for a long term. Ken Kutcheroff carry and play as well as he has. I think Florida is much better Toronto's the one that's a question mark for me with our offseason moves getting them older and Ken Bobrovsky play. A lot of moves. A lot of moves in Toronto is that push them closer to to an Atlantic title. I don't think so. I still think they're the third best team, maybe even fourth, but you're right. Any of those teams could win and I don't think it's going to be Buffalo. This could be a that's why this division is so good. All of these teams, I think you're right from week to week are going to be my goodness. Do you see those? The street pastor neck hat. I think I think it's going to be everybody. I think out of what drops and I think Detroit drops. I need to retract something I said on this podcast. Everything that I just said about the lightning. I keep forgetting they got John Carlson. And I love John Carlson for the lightning. I'm so in on this season. I don't know when I am on them, but they're going to be really good. And I thought like John Carlson was a sneaky prize of the off season with all the contracts that were happening and all the. We also got Nikita Kutrov contract year. Yes. Yeah. I'm. I'm sneaky. And as you said, they're just the thin lightning and their well coach, et cetera, et cetera. I know we got to let you go, Petey, but last one. Are the capitals going to be as fun as they look? I hope so. I mean, this is a team that I surprised me two years ago with their young speed. Now those, you know, you Michael's gone. I think the addition of Kai Ruta, Boone Jenner. These are a lot of experienced really good national hockey league players. They had outstanding goal tending last season. I think they're going to be fun to watch. I think this Washington team. I have Florida and Carolina tops in the east. The most improved team I have over the summer is the Washington capitals. I think this team is going to be much better in the east. And I think they are going to compete for an Eastern conference title this year, even with Ovechkin and his, his long in the two years. I still think this Washington capital team is going to be a surprising team and a really fun team to watch. The caps are heavy. They are a big ass team. And I am very excited to watch them kind of enforce their will. So I think I'm, I think I might jump on tic pic. And what are the capitals in in Boston? I would. Let's go to that. I'm going to specifically. No, I was going to say, I'd like to go to that came with you. Let's go to DC. No, we can just go to the one in Boston. We can go to DC. I haven't, I haven't done that one with me. Yeah. Okay. Pete hasn't been to DC. I will find any reason to go to DC, particularly in January. I was going to say what? Well, I was going to say, Pete, I don't think he's been to DC in like, it's been a few years, six years and or I guess it'd be like five years and nine months. It's been a few years, yeah. Yeah. Something like that. I can, I can leave state lines again. Let's go back to finally ever since ever since, you know, the, the, what do you call it, the, the party? Yeah. That was really good, Sean. Thank you. That was very good as usual. You can come to DC Saturday, November 21st. It's a Saturday Bruins game. It's going to be, it's going to fuck us financially. It's going to ruin us. But let's see, we could do, I'd love to go to that game with you. Okay. I was thinking, first of all, I'm so excited for hockey season, like that it's actually starting now. We thought a couple of weeks ago we were buzzing with like hockey seasons here and everything. I swear to God two nights ago, I had a dream that Evan Bouchard had 15 points in a game. That he had a half trick and 12 assists. You were just taking a bow by room, just like a clean, like, and that we were talking about it on the show and that we were discussing that it was the coolest combo. It the coolest way to have 15 points, hat trick. That is the coolest way. I mean, while 15 goals will be fucking crazy, but that's how, like, that's the second coolest way. That's how like Rage on Rondo would have a hat trick. Just. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You have one and 14. And then what else? Yeah. And then I was just looking at the schedule for tomorrow, which we've looked at a million times. I'm like, I want to rent out a sports bar, have the kitchen open and just me and Pete go and watch all sound on throughout the bar, just you and me. And we sit at the bar. Wait, didn't Drake do this? Didn't Drake rent out an entire, like, club or something and then just like watched a music video or watched like a streamer? Wouldn't surprise me. Chances. That's what I want. DJ, I had a dream. Big week for MLK, somebody was there a football player recently that was like, yeah, Arthur, like our head coach. I think it was the Falcons. It was like sounded like MLK and there and half the beach on said that he said that their white hood coach on like it was like MLK was in the locker room and half time. It's good shot. Again, these are athletes and we love them for select reasons. Okay. Uh, yeah, Drake rented out an entire club to himself just to gamble on steak. That's what it was. Like Drake is way worse than anything I've remembered to gamble on steak steak. It's like an online gambling thing. It's it's very problematic. Drake is not Drake. I don't think Drake is a good person. Not for the reason everybody gets mad at him for being a good bad person, but I don't think that guy's a good person. I just like some of these songs. In a new viral video, Drake seems to rent out a club to gamble alone while listening to Sabrina Carpenter's espresso. Okay. I mean, that's all right. Well, some of this is good. I was going to say if it wasn't on steak, that'd be kind of cool shit. That's not not horrible. Petey, thanks for coming on, buddy. We love you so much.
I always like to start the season in the chaos. And I consider myself a whatnot absolutely through and through been here from the beginning. Love you guys. I am a little disappointed in today's show. It seemed a little serious. I know you had fun stuff early. But next time, we got to maybe like we did in the summer, maybe just at the end of the segment, you got to veer off just a little bit. And we got to we got a little bit of pop culture just to make me feel good about the chaos. I mean, I know that you're a patented head. We all saw a prime time. Can I tell you some of my show? Yeah. Go ahead. As as my Armenian friends and family would say, Kaka. Oh, I'm missed. I missed that one. You know, I missed it because I was at a theater. As soon as it comes out streaming, I'll watch. But I want to give you this one. If you, I don't know how you guys feel about reality TV. I don't know where you sit in the lexicon of watching other people live their lives. I'm hooked on a new one. I'm Paramount Plus team. Not team. Team moms. Scotts stale baseball parents. It is absolutely fantastic. Eight couples taking their kids to a very, very high-price baseball academy and watch the chaos ensue. So I know what's kind of a tough watch. And not everybody loves their their reality TV. But if you want to see some some some baseball parents that are a little bit. We're based on the majors. I guess Kim Kardashian as a hand. People are mad about that. This might be where Jack gets some of you get some of that love that I was getting from the chat. Maybe you're a little bit. Yeah. I love it. It's not a great show. But you want to see how you parent. Like I go, gosh, I'm not sure I'd say that my kid's going to see that. Like be a little more self-aware. Shut the hell up and just sit there and go, uh-huh. Don't drink in front of the cameras because you're going to say something. Your kid's going to regret when he's in therapy at 18. I'm telling you. It's a tune in. Sean, you've been there. You've been to Old Town. Yeah, it's a must watch for anybody from the metro area in Phoenix. I was going to say I can I could see why Scottsdale's baseball moms could put on a TV show based on a limited experience of Scottsdale. I really hate like bad sports parents. And I really hate platform is we hate the word platforming. But I truly do hate platforming bad sports parents, especially when it's just like bad parenting is the crux of the TV show. And that's where, you know, I had a son that luckily graduated and has a job now. But if you watch this, it's a how not to parent sports kids. I think would be the takeaway there and you go, ooh, like I'm not sure the kids 12, dude, like back off maybe just a shade. So yeah, I still throw it off there. Let's let's bring my I wonder bring some of the outside of hockey inside today. And that was my little nugget. So I thanks for having me. I don't know what the hell is going to happen this season. I don't know. Is Babcock going to win a cup? Is Jim Hiller going to win a cup? Is Toronto back in the playoffs? Is Leo Carlson going to lead the league and scoring so many storylines can't wait. And it all starts tomorrow. That would be my favorite. Leo Carlson leading the league and scoring and us being like, I mean, I did say that player in the league. I think cutter gochie is going to lead the league in goals. So it would make sense in relation to that to have Leo Carlson lead the league in points. Mike Curtis, by the way, says PD's show recommendation is dance moms with a pitch count. I was going to say it does sound like dance moms. That's amazing. More dance moms chat a little later in the show. For now, we say goodbye to our dear friend, PD. You could check them out on inside the coaches room. He is clearly our favorite hockey mind. He is core chaos along with, you know, Shayna Maxx, all the regulars. Thanks for coming on, buddy. Appreciate you guys. Have a great season. All right. Bye, friend. That's Steve Peters. We love him so much. I'll do the dance moms thing. No, screw it. We have a guest on tomorrow's show. Sean, could you show a picture of him, please? No, can't. I don't know pictures exist. No pictures exist. Okay, we will not tease. It's you do have the picture. It's in the group chat. Okay. I didn't know. We were also sending dance moms stuff. I will say I did watch the dance moms clip that was recommended to us by this guest. And I watched it. I put it on a TV at a group gathering. Yeah. And I had not never seen it before. I put it on TV. Nobody at the gathering had ever seen it before. We all gave it a. Don't don't spoil it because it hits in the as as it is presented. It was undersold. Yeah, it's one. It's one of Sean's favorites. But we yes, it's John Cena is the guest says young greedy. While Sean gets that, let's shout out Chris Smith. Icedetics put out his Jersey watch video for the beginning of the year. Icedetics is an amazing account. We talk about a lot super high quality videos that discuss what's going on with jerseys. He has a bunch of updates on everything. Everything. All three. The winner classic. Something on every team. There's a bunch of hometown remix stuff in there, including a lot of what chaos footage, which is very nice of him. Definitely watch the video. Most interesting thing I would say I learned is. Which outdoor game is Winnipeg playing in? It's a heritage classic. Heritage classic. That's the one that I care about. That's like a jersey that I like I want to I want I want to see what the jets are doing. Heritage classic wise. Did you watch the video? That might be my stew. I watched the whole thing. But I've also seen things floating around. So I'm probably getting them confused. Did they show what it looked like? No, they were like, I don't think there's going to be a new Jersey for the heritage classic. I think they're just going to wear like the older ones. Oh, really? I saw a couple of other things floating around. That's what the internet breaks my brain. I apologize. What's it out to you? I think that the avalanche winner classic jerseys sound very, very interesting. I'm in based on the description. It was said that they have burgundy Matt helmets with burgundy breezers. They're going to have a western theme. There's going to be a new logo where there's a mountain theme in the logo. And there's sublimated mountains in the numbers like think the lightning stadium series jerseys with the lightning bolts. Right. Yeah. That sounds very, very fun to me. And looking forward to that. Speaking of western themes, the national predators are going to have like a western wear slash honky-tongued themed alternate Jersey. Yep. I think that's the hometown remix. It's going to be navy blue and fun little element. The national predators are going to have a dolly parton patch on their hometown remix for at least one game this season. I love that. They're also going to he said that they are also could be some hometown remix on hometown remix games, which would rock. That could be a lot of fun. Yeah. The jersey I'm thinking of. I'm an idiot. I'm just thinking of the navy jets jersey. Yeah. Which like, if I do a jets jersey this year, which I might, there's a goal. Yeah. I like on that team. I think that's the one I'm getting. That's an awesome jersey. That's why I'm not disappointed because it's the jets and the Canadians and the jets like vintage old school look is incredible. Yeah. Almost 10 out of 10. I would highly suggest they go back to that full time. And then the Canadians jerseys are always pretty good. You have a thought on Blackhawks jerseys. Yes. I have a thought on Blackhawks jerseys. It's not really a thought. It's an observation. I went over to the Blackhawks team store this morning to maybe do a little shopping. They're not selling the Black alternate jersey online. They're got a you cannot buy it online. I don't know what the reasoning for that is. I do wonder if they might be tweaking the version of that jersey from last year because they had the red jersey with the white collar. And then they changed it. They got rid of the white collar and just made it red on black. Then they introduced the black jersey and had the white collar. And I was like, why did the hell did they keep the white collar when they just went away from it? So I'm curious to see if that black jersey ditches the white collar this year. Wasn't last year the Blackhawks centennial season? Yeah. So that was so could that be it? Did they have any sort of like gold or any bullshit sprinkled into the patches? No, they just got rid of the white collar and then they had the gold outline. That was the only change. And then the other one that struck me while the devils are getting a black jersey finally with the simplified logo, basically an inverse of the stadium series jerseys that one's gonna bang. Finally, the caps hometown remix sounds amazing. I don't think I've seen that one. It is the 90s blue and bronze. He didn't show it, right? I didn't watch the video. I might have still been a little woozy from the plane did not show it, but it is the 90s blue and like bronze or copper or whatever you want to call it with the capital dome logo. Love that logo. It's going to have white shoulders, which I don't love, but they're white with a marbling effect to kind of mimic the capital building, which I think is very cool. And then they're also going to feature like cherry blossom details. So that caps jersey sounds amazing. Yeah. Shit. We're getting a lot more jerseys this season. We also soon need to announce our plan for the jersey stream. We are doing it again this year.
and this year's game is the brainchild of Pete. Sean came up with a very fun wrinkle to it too when we were discussing it. It's gonna be an amazing time. Once we have our affairs in order, we will explain, it will involve more audience participation than the last ones. And that makes it very, very fun. Sean, are you ready to help us now? Before we do that, chat's calling me an idiot that you can buy the Black Jersey online on the Black Hawk's team store. I'm sure you can buy a Black Hawk's Black Jersey online somewhere talking about the official team store. Scroll down. Well, the official team store does have it. You're on NHL, you're on NHL shop.com. Okay, all right. So at the NHL shop fanatics team store. Oh, yeah, that's probably just their out. Maybe that happens a lot like that there was a sold out. No, I know, but they don't even that's happened to me where I've wanted, I think like the ducks jerseys for awhile, you just could not, like the orange ones were just like not listed on the NHL shop because they were banged. All right, apologies. Look at some of these other stuff that's on the Black Hawk's team store. And it's a good thing we did not stop in while we were there. Yes, we weren't Chicago at the last few days. We did a little bonding trip. And while we were there, we did a wee bit of work. Tomorrow on what chaos, Sean Conor Bedard makes his return to the show absolutely suck it haters. I wish there were many of it. Sean, I can't believe it. We may or may not have asked him, hey, why are you doing this again? He's great and he likes us. By the way, if you can't confirm, he said that. He did say that. If you can't tell in that photo, that man has put on a lot of size since, I mean, I guess being 18 the last time that we saw him, but he's built. Yeah, his upper body. His forearms, man. You can't see him in that picture, but his forearms were noticeably like, that's a Jack Man now. He's no longer a young boy. That he is fully octopus the way he has got two forearms. Dad. Jesus Christ. Yeah, no, I'm sorry for knowing what tentacles are, fucking losers. I'll give a thumbs up on that one. That was good. That was, it was too quick for me to hate on it. Completely unrelated. Did you see the tweet I sent you from Chris Johnson? No, that, uh, a court. Yeah, yeah. John Chica, according to internal data, this is the best awesome Matthews has ever skated, which that's, that sounds like bullshit. And I love it. That sounds like the most John Chica runs this team now ever. Sean, we need to, I know I'm fast and furious with the drops. I don't know how to do this with gifts or whatever. So I think that you would have to run it. We need to have Lebron James for some of those. And for any audio listeners, I was doing the Lebron James. Ooh, gift. So scared. Yeah. Hell yeah. Maybe we talk about Lebron with Condor Dard. You wouldn't know. I just love internal data. Any GM and setting internal data to hype up his own group is the best. Cause it's just like, nobody can see that shit. You could just be making that up. Yeah. And also like, what does him skating better than ever before? What does that even mean? Like, is he faster? Cause I feel like you would just say he's faster than he's ever been if that were the case. So our internal data says that our Wendy's fries are the most delicious. My internal data says Mike Babcock does not have me fooled. I've never, I don't currently have a stomach ache. Everything is good. Mike, it's, it is, it's good internal data. That's just sounds so goddamn Trump. Oh, yeah. I mean, I have an opinion. I'm just going to say my internal data. That's what, yeah. Yeah. That's why I like it. Yeah. Big time. It just sounds like Chica is just. I don't know. Internal data is just Victor Arvidsen is a young, uh, right shot center. Either just make it up or have personal opinions and make it a staple of the show that we call it internal data. Yeah. We're just any time a player that we like does anything like our internal data shows. Yes. Yeah. Our internal data up here. Yeah. Or in here. Oh, man. Don't let I coward get a point in like the first week of this season. Our internal data shows I coward's actually going to be really, really, really good. That is the theme of the season. This is the year of internal data. Yep. We said we wouldn't change. We went to the ringer. Sorry. We're nerds now. Internal data. It's that guy told us otherwise. Crunching numbers. All right. Let's run through some super chats because yeah, folks, we're not doing five hour episodes anymore. Now that we're back to daily, we did run a little long today, but I could talk to PD forever says, "Liana, Biana, it's my B day sharing the love your community has shown to me." Oh, hell yeah. We're going to be able to tell the super chats that were before and after I said that I was fallen for the, like, Babcock banana and the tailpipe. Bart has battalion says, "In fantasy, my wide receivers are Puka and Collins. I'm cooked." Oh, Nikki. Like my running back situation. Nikki says, "Can't stay, but so glad you're back to daily shows." Thank you. Thank you. Love your life. Hey, friends, says, "Dreamd I grew a bunch of shons on a petri dish in my lab. You were gram positive. Don't fall asleep to YouTube. Auto play here." Guys. Welcome back to Love Your Life. I don't know what that means. I don't know if you want to know. No, I don't. Welcome back to Love Your Life is the proper response to that. Let's see. Our man says, "P-W-H-L gets hockey night in Canada." Hell, yeah. It's got intended. Yeah. Yeah. Hockey night in Canada is back for P-W-H-L. That's awesome. I mean, that's the, at least the opening night schedule for the P-W. I don't know if it was the full schedule or not, but I think it's December 12th. I know. I don't even know if I'm going to want a hockey in December. P-W-H-L Hamilton opening up at home against Ottawa Charge. Kind of want to be there, but as a clear marker of how good that league is doing, let's take a closer look. A lot of fucking expensive. They should be. I agree, but I just, I maybe wasn't fully prepared for that. My internal data. I was here. Yeah. My internal data says, "Meghan Duggan stole the league and put it in Hamilton." Successfully did what Jim Ball-Silly was trying to do with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Meghan Duggan got it done. Renee Maldonado says, "Pacific is clearly the best and most entertaining." Yeah. I mean, for our purposes, Pacific, it's going to be hard to unseat the Pacific. Even though I had a lot of time last year, I would watch the Pacific and be like, "I got to assume that that was a facetious or irony laden or just sarcasm." Well, it's definitely the most entertaining, but no one thinks it's the best. Renee is a Kings fan. But I thought it was from a Kings fan. Yeah. I don't think he's entertained by that shit at all. Oh, yeah, yeah. True, true. Yeah. Sharks Mealy says, "Hi, it's half of the Sincere B-Day Lesbians and I'm in Boston right now. Can I come to the sports bar? You guys rent out?" Yes, only if we can call it a lesbian sports bar. Okay. Get a globe reporter. We can get stocks back up. Should I know who the Sincere B-Day Lesbians are? You were not there, but somebody wished their partner a happy birthday. Did they start the Lesbian Union? Yes. They said, "Hey, two Lesbians and Cincinnati love you." And I've said, "Shout out Lesbians in Cincinnati." And then people were like, "Oh, we're Lesbians in wherever." And then the Lesbians started unionizing so quickly. Also, I hate that I said the Lesbians, but the aforementioned people unionized. And it was a beautiful thing, PD was on, and I was just seeing community develop before my very eyes. It was a very, very wholesome day. And that's how we have the WCOS Lesbian Union and the WCOS Queer Union. Matt Friend or Foe says, "Didn't want to miss out on Super Chatting the first ringer episode. Sad that you're a Babcock Superfan now, do you hear it begins?" Emma Haven says, "I can't join tomorrow. Just hoping, he doesn't go to San Jose, yeah, Sharks fans don't want that shit." Danny says, "My first full season, and I'm so excited to go wild, sending love from Ecuador." All right. Wild fans in Ecuador. Technically selling love, too. Yes. Super chats. Yeah. Buying us some love. I guess buying love is something appropriate. And he says, "Well, hey, look, we're buying what you're selling, Dan." And he says, "My internal data says the LA Kings won six to two against the ducks in their final preseason game. So they'll be winning the cup. Who are we to argue?" Well, I mean, the, the sharks kind of victory-mogged against the ducks, did they not? Didn't they win a game? They won a 10 to nothing. 10 to nothing? You can't get 15 points and a 10-nothing win, though. That's true. That's good to work, boys. Back to work. It just seems like maybe the ducks aren't very good at defending. Do you think? Yes. They just don't have anybody. Our Patreon episode from this weekend is amazing and thorough. We all did it in person while we were in Chicago. We reacted to Primetime, which we all saw together, great experience.
- Experience, Sean's first time at Alamo Drafthouse, absolutely loved it for him. We talked about Resident Evil quite a bit, which Pete and I both loved. Or you loved it, right? - How do I go that far, I'm like right on the, I'm right on the town line of loving it. - Okay, that's okay. You don't need to be-- - Right on the Raccoon City line of loving it. - Okay, you're no better or worse or anything for being a little more specific with where you fall on the movie. It's easy to say, "loved or hate." I'm being a little chill. I'm Cregor-pilled by saying, "Oh, I loved it. "I do wanna see it again." Very good. And we also reacted to the new output from Taylor Swift. And that was a respectful conversation. I think Sean made a lot of good points about like being a diehard of somebody who doesn't always make the best stuff 'cause Sean's experience being a Drake fan. I thought it was a very, no, seriously. I thought that good points were made by all. So check out the Patreon. We have one more. - Late submission for Jay Walter Hypan says, Pete loves the Habs and DJ loves Mike Babcock. We're in the Twilight Zone. I blocked somebody on Twitter yesterday for calling me a Habs fan. Takes a lot. Takes a lot for me to hit the block button. This person has literally done nothing, but tweet at me on every post being like your Habs fan, fake Bruins fan, Habs fan, fake Bruins fan. I was just like, that's a guy who need any of that. We're hitting the reset button. New season, fuck the Habs. - I thought this person wants the DM me. I'll follow you back. - Oh, okay. That I think is worth blocking. I thought that someone was doing like a friendly, like, who Pete's a Habs fan? - No, it's just I wouldn't say anything. - It's a very human thing. If someone's doing something to you that's frustrating you to take it out on somebody else, we're like, you're mad at me and Sean. - Specifically me about the Habs fan thing. If somebody was. - I'm not mad at you guys, 'cause I know that it's a bit like this person. - It's a bit ridiculous how much you like the Habs. I'll tell you how much. - But we're not discrediting your Bruins fandom. - This guy who logs on Twitter or this person logs on Twitter and is just like, I'm gonna be mad. I'm gonna go to Pete's profile, look at what he tweeted, and I'm gonna be mad about it and just call the Habs fan. - Those are my favorite people. - I'm the internet. I love that those people exist. They're sick. It's where I think Sean, you envision a different life in which like a few things broke differently. Say you were like a finance bro or something. Maybe that's how you'd be scratching your sports itch. You'd be one of those guys online. - Oh, absolutely no shot. - Oh no shot. - I wouldn't have social media if I didn't have this shot. - You always say that and I do believe it. - Because you barely text. - Yeah, I hate social media. My favorite quote ever is never argue with a fool. Drag you down to their level and be with experience. That's all you're doing on the internet is arguing with fools. I have no time for that. - Quick little update, Emily Kaplan just wrote a piece about how the NHL is changing its marketing and embracing the cultural moment of heated rivalry and off campus. - What does it say? Can we get a little, I can read you the tweet summary. - Yeah, I don't want to give ESPN too much promo. They say don't allow their employees to come on the show. Nearly 1.8 million people watch the NHL for the first time last season after watching heated rivalry or off campus according to NHL research. Now the NHL is trying to turn that attention into lasting fandom in part by changing how it markets its players. I'll be reading that after the show. I mean, I'm interested in the split there. I wonder if they've got that far. Are they aware that which show they're coming from? - They're coming from-- - My point exactly. My point exactly. - Yo, yeah, I think they were doing off campus a favor by grouping those two together. That's what I'm getting at. - I don't know, I think a lot of people did watch off campus. - Oh, I think so too, but I feel like a lot of people got to the league from, like if I had to guess, the conversion from show to the league was probably larger on heated rivalry side. - Not even close to and the league has been way more comfortable embracing reaching out to getting into bed with off campus. - Well, I think part of that, I don't want to make any excuse for them. I think part of that is the fact that off campus has direct ties to the NHL in terms of like one of the characters in that show is on the Bruins or was drafted by the Bruins. - And I think that we talked about this a little when Hollywood reporter did the thing with Macklein Celebrini and the man named Belmont who is in off campus. They're not getting Connor's story for that. - That's proud of him. - You know, like the heated rivalry people don't need. - I also think any of us. - More people watched off campus like because of heated rivalry because heated rivalry came first and made it like it was a great show and people got excited about off campus being somewhat of an extension of that. - By its very nature, heated rivalry is critical of the NHL in a way that off campus is not. - They talk about the issues. - Off campus is doesn't simple as that. - Okay, we'll talk to you tomorrow folks with Connor, but Dard, you don't want to miss it. Love you, bye.
