(upbeat music) - Welcome back to season two of Mudder's Sport Podcast. I'm Carrie. - And I'm Mike. - I don't know what we're going to talk about, because. - You came unprepared this week. - I came unprepared. And I honestly haven't. Other than seeing like crash things online, I haven't really been following a lot of what's been going on. I did see that Williams wasn't ready. - Yep. - I saw that Isaac Hadjar had a big crash. - Yep. - I also saw Lando had a crash. - Oh, I didn't see that. - I rejoiced in that. - Well, so I made some notes for us to talk about some stuff today. We're going to go over some predictions for the year. Some, I guess rumors that have happened over the last couple of months since the season has ended. And we'll just have some interesting stuff to talk about, I think. Okay, so first of all, Barcelona test has been going on last few days. Several teams have been participating. You just mentioned Williams is not present. - I guess I had some spreadsheet miscalculations. - It's quite possible that they mismanaged the Excel sheet and yeah, they didn't have enough parts to be there. I don't understand how that happens because this isn't the first time they've screwed up. - Yes. - Like I just, I feel like for an organization of that size and you have that much money that you're spending to miss a deadline like that just seems like reckless. - Now let me tell you this. - Okay. - So I saw a hot take that I really like. - On Instagram? - Absolutely. - Yeah, it might have been TikTok actually. So the whole thing that we's talking about right now, Williams, not at the Barcelona test, they failed a crash test. They're 30 kilos overweight. - Like how does it even have 30 kilos? - How does it all happen? - That's like almost 70 pounds probably. - So that is the headlines. However, apparently Williams has passed the crash tests in the defined amount of time. Yes, they failed several times, but they have passed at this point. - Okay. - So this theory is that James Vowels thinks that they have nailed the design so much that they've gone off the rails with something new that they want to keep it hidden for as long as possible. So that's why they're not at this test. They're waiting till Barcelona so nobody can reverse engineer what they have done because they think that they have locked in to something that is going to give them massive performance. - Well, I feel like the person who started this rumor is going to be very disappointed in the end. - I liked, I really liked the theory. I think it sounds awesome because as you said, this has happened to Williams before. - Right. - Was it 2019 or something like that where they didn't make it for the first day of running in Bahrain? And it's like, how does that happen? I feel like you can't make that mistake again. - Yeah, I don't know how to say it. - That's what I'm clinging to is you can't have someone who is as detailed oriented and specific and analytical as James Vowels and have him miss a deadline. This important. - But what about the weight problem? - Well, who knows? This is why you'd say conspiracy theory. - I guess we'll see. - And I love it because I would love to see Carlos and Alex Alborn at the top this year. Both of them consistently. Carlos had those amazing podiums last year, but it would be incredible to see them consistently fighting up top. - It'll be like a comeback Disney story. - It really would be. It would be. So next thing that I want to talk about, check out did an interview where he talked a lot about his time at Red Bull and apparently he went to a psychologist first and time after he left. - I saw that and he got the bill. - He sent the bill to Hellwood, Marco, which I just, that really redeemed check out a lot in my eyes and I'm really, really hoping that Cadillac comes in this year and isn't just terrible and dead last. - Yeah, I mean, when it's a new team, you call it like it's just. - There's no one knows. - No one knows, yeah. - They could be amazing, they could be terrible. - Yeah. - I hope for Valtteri and Jekko that they're not terrible. - I'm gonna care less about Jekko. I'm more concerned about Valtteri then. - I'm so interested to see it though because there's just, they're two such famous second drivers, right? Behind greatness. And it's like who is the true second driver behind the greatness, right? Is Valtteri better than Jekko? It's a nice respect, but who knows? - I worry like Valtteri, not Valtteri. Jekko, I feel like is gonna have like a chip on his shoulder like he's trying to prove something. - Yeah. - And I can just see him doing stupid shit. - Yeah, I can see that. We saw him do that when he loses his cool and he struggles and does stuff things. - So I guess we'll see what happens. I don't know, I'm just excited to have my boy Valtteri back. I know, right? It's incredible. The next rumor, which, this one is a straight up TikTok rumor that I've seen no information about outside of this, is I saw that apparently Ferrari is essentially creating two different cars for their drivers because the feedback from Charles and Lewis was so vastly different. - I can't imagine that's true though. I think it's true to the extent that setup changes might be different or things like that. - Not two different cars. - But there's no way you could do that. Like they had to bring in the WEC engineers to finish on time. So I can't imagine that it's true. - I'm sorry about the WEC. - The endurance championships. 'Cause Ferrari is quite successful in endurance racing. So apparently they brought in WEC engineers to help with finishing the cars. Can I interrupt you? - Yes. - Because what it was that you showed me the other day and you thought it was like this whole thing with like Max and Toto and like, oh, it was like, the nerve ring. - The nerve ring having changed. - And you were like, do you know hope it has petitioned it? Toto, Wolf and I was like, well yeah, that makes sense because he drives from the cities and you were like, what? - What? (laughing) - Yeah. - Say what? - So you caught on to the random Williams conspiracy theories but missed that actual legit-- - The major headline, yeah. - I did, yeah. - Yeah. - I feel like I'm picking and choosing where I focus my attention. - Clearly. - And I'm going the more tinfoil hat. - So I'm going more legit use. - Logical, yeah. - You know what? We're switching roles and I like it. - Yeah. Well, I feel like I've had to just like, for my own sanity, just take a step back from it all. - Yeah, yeah. The rumors didn't pan out in your head last year and plan no one. - I was very disappointed in how things ended. So I just needed a break. Like I needed a break from thinking about all of that, you know? - Yeah. - And now you're back. - I'm pretty sure I unfollowed and clear and what I unfollowed like a bunch of other people 'cause I was like, I just don't want to see it. - That's fair. - I don't want, obviously still follow, you know, my main cast. - You mean, you're main crew, yeah. - But like I appreciate Oscar not really posting a lot about anything. - Nope. - Until just now. I was like, oh yeah. Guess the season's starting back up. It was a nice break for my head. - Well, that's good. One more rumor that I want to talk about is speculation that Mercedes has got the engine right this year. And the power units are going to be way faster than everybody else's. - Which I guess complements your theory about Williams too. - So pretend. - 'Cause they have the engine and the design. - Yeah. A lot of speculation. - A lot of people look out. - Yeah, a lot of people looking at interviews with George and things that he's saying and sort of the smile that he's trying to hide. - Oh, whatever. - Talking about how he knows that the car is incredible and that he's going to be able to perform. So we'll see. I don't know. - Is it wrong that I'm like hoping for some focusing? (laughing) - I would like his reaction to the focusing would be incredible. - I know. - Tote, what policy? - Well, it's completely, I drive and record. - Yeah. You know what? I feel like that's what happened to my car. - It was a policy. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Dude, it just snow would keep me alive, so it was. You're right. - It was undrivalable. - Damn you Mercedes. - I'm going to write them a letter. - Yeah, you should. - I got the porpoising issue. - I got porpoising issue, yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. Last thing that is outside of the questions I want to ask you. Nico Holkemberg, apparently in his contract with Outie this year, has a $50,000 per championship point incentive, which the last time this was done from a new team was Lotus in 2012 with Kimi Reikkonen. Care to venture, I guess, is to how many points Kimi Reikkonen scored with his first year with Lotus in 2012. - I have no idea. - He got 390. He got an estimated 19.5 million euros, which nearly bankrupted the company. - No one wanted to do that math just ahead of time, like just in case. - Just in case. - This worked the payout could be. - Yeah. - Yeah. - I don't think it's going to happen with Nico. - Yeah, Nico Kimi Reikkonen, not on the same level, but Nico had some strong performances last year. - He did, yeah. - They had a couple of upgrades in their car, and all of a sudden your boy's got a podium, and he's got some strong positions. - I'm not asking a question. I know you don't have the answer to. How many points did he get last year? - Nico? - Yeah. - I don't know the answer to that. - I know. - Yeah. - See? - Yeah, I don't know. But, near and to you, probably more than Adi wants to pay. But then again, they got deep pockets. So now onto the meeting potatoes of-- - Oh, I thought that was it. Okay. - No, now we're into the questions that I've got for you. - I thought those were like-- - No, no. - Okay. - I want your 2026 predictions. - I've given this zero thought. - Yeah, no, that's, that's why I didn't show you these questions before. - But I've also like not thought about it at all. - Yeah, that's why I'm looking for sheer hope or no reasoning, no logic behind it. What does your gut tell you? Okay. - Okay. - Number one, who's winning the driver's championship? - Max. - Okay, Max. Interest, bold statement. Okay. It's not who I want to win. - Yeah, but that's what you think. - But I, as much as I love Oscar, I don't want McLaren to win. I want Oscar to win with a different team. Like I want him to move on. Of course, I want Lewis to win. Like I want him to get his eighth and have that storybook finish. But like I don't have a lot of faith in Ferrari. - Yeah. - At all. Like I just don't think that they, unless Fred has worked his magic and fixed a lot of like internal problems. I don't see. - Yeah, I mean, they haven't even announced Lewis's new race engineer. - Yeah, like I just, that whole situation is a mess. - It is. - I feel like I feel bad for Charles too, because Charles is so talented. And I just think it's like a waste of two talented drivers. - Yeah. Okay, who do you think is gonna win the constructor championship? - Mercedes. - Yeah. You think George and Kim, you're gonna perform well? Fair enough. Who do you think will be the biggest loser of the season, whether it be team or driver, in whatever way it comes to your mind of, you look back in 2026, this guy or this team was the loser. - So rooted in reality, I think the biggest loser is going to be LPN and Pierre Gasley, just because I think like they're not gonna materialize in anything. I mean, I wish it was McLaren and Lando. (laughing) That's like my dream. - Your grudge is still going strong. - Oh yeah, forever. But yeah, I don't, I think LPN has maybe run its course. Like I feel like it might be time for, it just to become a different team. - Yep, do you think, this is outside, this is just a follow up. - Oh wait, oh no. - There's rumors of Christian Horner, Horner by again. - Hold please. - Oh yeah. - I forgot, Red Bull was moving to Ford. - Yeah. - Oh. - You've already said Max is winning the championship in a Ford engine. - Yeah, no, I'd no longer think that's possibility. (laughing) I'm gonna go, oh no. I don't even know what to say, I don't even know. I'm gonna go, George. - George, okay. That's interesting. What do you think is gonna be the biggest surprise of the 2026 season? - I'm gonna go with Williams. Not based on like your whole conspiracy theory. I don't think they're gonna have like a rocket ship. I just think that they are going to, I think they really, really started to like take off the second half of the season last year. - Yeah. - And I think they're just going to have continued to build on that. And I think that they're just going to have solid performances out of both drivers versus just like Carlos. - Yeah. That makes sense. Do you think we will have any new first time race winners this year? - Oh yeah. Kimmy. - You think Kimmy, I think I was gonna go first? - Yep. - Last question. Which driver pairing do you think we'll have the worst relationship and we'll end up in chaos for the team? - So my mind immediately went to Chico and Valtteri. - Because of the who is the best number two driver? - Yeah, and I think Chico just like is gonna have, I think Chico is gonna have like this attitude that he is the best driver just because he came from Red Bull. But it's like, but like if Valtteri's track record and anyway. But I also think that there's gonna be a lot of inner turmoil in McLaren. - Yeah. - Like a lot. I think that's gonna be a problem. - You think if they don't do something for Oscar or it'll get dirty? - Yeah, and I hope that it gets, but I hope Oscar just decides he doesn't give any bucks at the beginning of the season. Like I hope he has made a decision for himself that he needs to win this championship. Not playing, you can't do it, play the nice guy. - Yeah. - And like I really hope someone has reached out to him like a current driver, perhaps Louis Hamilton, who's gone through this. Just saying like, you have to race your own race. Like don't play the team game for somebody else. - That's good. - Actually, I have one more question. Which driver do you think will collapse under pressure because of the car's limitations? Like all these new regulations, all these new changes, who has been a great driver and turns out, oh, maybe it was the car. - I don't. - I don't know. - It's teaming that one up for you. - Because I don't think he's a great driver. I don't like, I truly don't. I don't think he's like a bad driver, but I think there's very specific circumstances that have contributed to his success. And it's not all like he just, he's not like a self-made driver where he, it's just talent. A team that I had literally forgotten existed until I was just talking about Lando was asked in Martin 'cause I was thinking about like failures and then like obviously it's troll popped mine. - But you've got a new design car? - Yeah, no. So like, I see back from a two-time world champion. - No, so I'm interested to see what happens with them 'cause I honestly had forgotten they existed. I don't think they're going to be winning races. I don't even know if they're gonna be on the podium, but I feel like they're going to be more consistently fourth, fifth. - What are you thinking about that kind of thing? - Yeah. - That's interesting. - Well, 'cause Newy's in charge of the team too now, right? Like it's-- - Yes. - So like I feel like that is a huge change, right? So it's like not only are you gonna have a new design, you're also gonna have decisions based on that design, right? Like so he's gonna be able to make the decisions that best support what he's created. - Yeah. - I mean, within reason, 'cause he's still a glance. But like, I think that we're going to see a difference there. I feel like I think they'll take off in the second half of the year. - You think it'll take that long? You don't think that Newy's design's gonna jump out the gate strong? - I think it will start off decently strong, but I think that he'll bring a series of improvements that will leap them forward. - Yeah, like I think it'll be a little bit like a McLaren situation when they really turn things around. - A few years ago, yeah. - That leads to a follow-up question. If there's one team that's gonna be secretly lobbying the FIA to adjust regulations midseason, what team is doing that lobbying? - Absolutely Red Bull. - But they don't have Christian Horner anymore. They don't have the weasel. They don't, but I don't think, so them not being American. I don't think they recognize like Ford isn't, like, okay, yeah, it's been around forever. But Ford isn't known to be like the most reliable of engines. - Right. - So, I mean, I would hope they would have done their homework before. - I'm sure they did. - But like, do they even have Fords in Europe? - Yeah, I mean, Ford was in F1 back in 2004. That was their last season. - I just think that I can't imagine it's a good engine. - Yeah, well, they, I mean, I can't imagine. - Who's Audi using? Like, did they make their own engine? - They have created their own Audi power unit. - I can't imagine that's gonna go well. - Yeah, but who knows? - Aren't you kind of excited with all of these different power units? Like the retirements that are gonna happen at the very beginning of the season? - Yeah, I think what'll, I don't know if it'll be retirements? - It absolutely will be. It's gonna be like, run out. Remember when run out, just like. - Oh, yeah, they would always just. - Just like, they like, you'd see like the cloud, poof at the back. You'd see Ricardo having to pull over and just be like, yep, power unit. I don't know how many times that happened to him, but it was. - What happened a lot in Red Bull, right? - Yeah. - Oh, yes. - 'Cause they had it when they were still using the Renault engines. And then, yeah, like it was, it was a problem. I feel like we're gonna see a lot of that, which I'm really excited for. - I think it'll be really interesting with these new changes, because I think it will bring a whole new layer of strategy with the way that they're, you know, pushing out power at different times with the hybrid engines, like the 50/50. So I think it's gonna add, whoever the strategist is, is gonna be far more important, like even more important than it was before. - Did you see, I can't remember who it was. - Which, I mean, does not vote well for Ferrari. - So no. - Fueling. - Gassing, gassing. - Gassing, gassing, gassing the cars. (laughing) - This is the person talking who doesn't ever get gassed. - That's good. I don't know the last time you bought gassed. - I don't know. Every time I do, though, I struggle to remember how to do it. Like, open the. - The gas can? - The tank. - The tank? - The gas tank? - The flap? - You push it. - No, but I always forget that. (laughing) - Yeah. - Yeah, I mean. - Like, I feel like I look like a first timer every time I see that. - Every time. - Yeah. Yeah, I mean, it'll be interesting. Like, they haven't had it since the end of 2009. - But like, can we not remember that there was a reason they discontinued that because it was like, incredibly unsafe. - Very dangerous, yeah. Several fires and. - Like, there's not a way to make that safe. You know, 'cause you're going for speed. So you're jamming it in as fast as possible, shooting as much fuel in as fast as possible. - Yeah. - Trying to do that all in under three seconds. - Yeah. - A couple of drips and all of a sudden you gotta. - Yeah, I don't think it's a good idea. - Yeah, I, you know, I. - I don't think they'll bring that back. - I don't think so either. I'd much rather see larger engines. Like, go back to the V10s. I think that would be more exciting over this hybrid stuff. - I would, I'd like to see that more, but. - I don't think that's gonna happen. - I think the teams are pushing for it. - Yeah, but they're trying to get towards their like net zero. - Yeah, net zero can mean a fully sustainable fuel. - Yeah, I don't think that's gonna happen. - Well, we'll see. But that's all the questions I have for you. - Are you gonna answer those questions? - Do you remember what they were? - Absolutely not. The first one was, who do you think is gonna win the World Championship? - I think it's gonna be George. - Oh? - Yeah, I know. I, I get not that I'm hoping for it. - You know what though, like, I like George enough that I would be happy with that. And I know that he, like sometimes says the wrong things, but he is a talent to driver. - Absolutely. - And I think he works hard, and I think he's also like underrated. And I know like we joked last year and less late, 'cause he goes, you know, he's in Pompodium by accident. - Yes. - But like, I think it's hard to be a George because like, you don't have that like star quality, right? - Right. - So like, even though you're super talented, like I think he's far more talented than Lando. - Yeah, Lando had the, he was able to build much more of a fan base, I think. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah, George just has like this like, I don't know, like the Litty problem. - He does, yeah. He seems pompous, like no matter what he does. - Yeah. - He seems pompous. - Yeah. - That's why there's a certain element of British people that love him and others, not a fan. - I'd be interested to know like, is it like, do other British people feel that way about him? Or do they all think that he's just like this nice guy? - Yeah, it could be. - Because I don't feel that way about British people. It's like a George thing. - It's a George thing. Oh yeah, I don't know, it's specifically a George thing. Yeah. Yeah, so I think George is going to win in the driver's championship. - So he's winning the Constructor's. - I think Mercedes, I'm with you. I think Kimi's going to perform very, very well. I agree that I think he's going to get his first weight race within this year. I think he's going to do very well this year. Not that I think he'll be necessarily second in the championship. I don't think so either, no. - I think he'll do very well. What were my other questions? Biggest surprise of the season. I'm going to say, I think Audi is going to do better than expected. I think they are going to actually perform decently well. And I think that they're going to end up having to pay Nico about a lot of money. - So is it just Nico, not Gabriel? - I don't know. - It's the same Gabriel, Gabriel. - Gabriel, Gabriel. - I struggle with that. - Yeah, I don't know what the correct pronunciation is. It's probably something totally different. - Try to. - No, no, it's probably like, you know how? - I don't know. - What's your got there? - No. - Biggest loser of the season. I think it's going to be R-B. - Yeah, I forget about them. - Yeah, the reason I say this is because Alpine already is a loser. - So it's not going to be so bad. - It's not a shock that they're not going to do well. Which I don't think they will. R-B, I think, kind of, they did much better last year. - Well, like Isaac did better. - Yes. But I think this year, they're going to do poorly. I think the Ford engine is not going to be great. - Oh yeah, 'cause they're Ford too. - They're Ford too. And then I think that it's going to be, you've got Liam Lawson who loves to crash into people. And you've got Arvin Lynn Bled who, I've seen a lot of videos of him crashing into people too. - I wonder if Liam would find more success in like Rally 'cause it's kind of like out of control and like-- - Yeah, a little wild. - Yeah. - He might. - Not to say they all crash. I'm just, but like maybe, you know? - It's a little bit more forgiving. - It's plus the driving in a straight line. - Yeah. You know where he would probably excel NASCAR. - I think you're going to say bumper cars. - No, NASCAR because you're allowed to bump. - Yeah, that's right. - A little tap and everyone's fine. It's expected, it's just, you know, rough racing. - Yeah. - So we probably do really well. - Go to NASCAR. - He might be the next NASCAR superstar. And then what was the last question? Oh yeah, which driver has the worst, which team has the worst driver pairing? Yeah, I got to go with Cadillac. I think Valtteri and Checo, I think you're spot on that. - That's gonna be a Checo problem. - Yeah. And because Valtteri loves everybody, Valtteri is-- - He's a likable guy. - Fantastic. - But also to like when you just re-read that, I was also, I kind of forgot Arby existed as well. And I feel like Liam is going to be all like hot shotty, trying to prove himself to Arvind. - Arvind, yeah. - Is this name Arvind Lindblow? - Arvind Lindblad. - Lindblad. - Yeah. - Okay, Arvind. - Arvind, yeah. - Where's he from? - I don't know. I feel like last season was such a lockdown. - Yeah. - But I've had to just go in with the mentality of, like, I don't expect anything. - Yeah, the only comfort that I have, and knowing that I think it's a straight-up lie from them, is that they stopped, that they did so bad last year because they stopped developing the 2025 car in what April took focus on 26. (laughing) And I was like, oh, no. - Oh, no. - Maybe it's true. - No. - At this year, they will do really well. - They will. - I don't know, as I said, I don't have high hopes, but. - How, like, are the Tofosi okay? 'Cause, like, I don't consider myself a Tofosi, 'cause, like, I'm just along for the ride, 'cause, like, I'm a little jealous. So, I guess, I'll consider myself, like, an honorary Tofosi. But, like, those, like, Tofosi's, like, the ones with the flags and, like, - Yeah, the tattoos and all of it. Like, has somebody checked in on them? Are they okay? I feel like they can't be. - Tofosi, if you're listening, please, let us know how you're doing. - Probably not so bad. - We need to know. - Yeah. Like, it's a little bit like, I mean, I don't know. What was it? Was it the Red Sox that lost forever? Until they, like, it was, like, a hundred years. - A hundred years, yeah, a hundred-year, dry streak. - Was it a hundred years, or did I just make that up? - I don't know. - And you just degraded. - The curse of the bend, you know, yeah. - Yeah, it feels a little bit like that. Like, I'm not a Boston Red Sox fan. - Yeah. - But, that is dedication to stick with them for, I mean, look, look at the Leafs fans. They haven't won since the '60s, and there is a more dedicated Leafs fan base now than ever. - Yeah, I don't, I mean, Cowboys too. Like, look at the Cowboys. - They at least won in the '90s, or 2000s. Like, it's not that long ago. Imagine not having won a championship since the 1960s. - Yeah. - You're still, every single year, this is our year. This is our year. - So, to Fosie, are you saying this is our year? - They absolutely are. They say it every year. - I'm there with you. Like, it's our year with Lewis. - I like it. - That's always, like, my dream scenario is, like, I, you know what? I feel like Lewis is a smart enough person that if there wasn't a chance, he would just walk away. - Yes. He knows. - So. - He's there for the win. He's not there to do poorly. - But I am interested to see though, 'cause like, if this is like another, like, bomb season, bombing in, like, a bad way, in a good way, do you stick around for more? - I think at that point, he becomes more assertive with his. - So you think he would stick around again? - Yeah. - Oh, I don't know. Like, Cheryl is already, like, kind of pissed away his career, which is unfortunate. Like, he probably had an opportunity, more than one opportunity to go to other teams. - Absolutely. He's a fantastic driver. - And he's stuck with Ferrari, I think, to his detriment. - Yep. - I don't understand. Like, he's still very young, like, he absolutely could go. But, like, psychologically, that is going to damage you as a racer. - For sure. Yep. But everybody wants to win in a Ferrari. - Like, the destruction academy. - Yep. One final thing before we go. Max commented a little while ago that certain people that didn't like him in the past seem to like him now, which he clearly is directly speaking to you. - My leg unhinged theory. - And avid listener. - He's a fan. - That he must be listening. And he, throughout last season, listened to you break down your walls and learn to love Max. - So, we don't have any listeners from Monaco. So, my theory is he uses a VPN, which is very safe of you.
