The Creed of the Non-Commissioned Officer Memorization Guide

This episode of the Board Questions podcast presents a complete memorization walkthrough of the NCO Creed using the Mind Palace technique, a method dating back to the Greek poet Simonides in 556 BCE and still used by actors and professionals. Listeners are guided through an imagined Castle of the NCOs in three stages, each corresponding to one paragraph of the creed. At the castle entrance, a warrior statue, a banner of NCOs from every American war, a judging mirror, and three pillars of temptation encode the first paragraph about professionalism, pride, and avoiding pleasure, profit, or personal safety. Inside the Hall of Responsibility, a watchdog named Competence, a mural of an NCO balancing mission and welfare, a war map, a cautionary tale of SSG Callos, and clay soldiers teach the second paragraph's duties, including technical proficiency, communication, and fair rewards and punishment. In the training courtyard, scenarios with a stressed butter bar, Private Numbnuts, and a missing officer cover the third paragraph on officer support, earning respect, loyalty, initiative, and moral courage. After recaps, the full creed summary is repeated six times to solidify recall, and the host recommends replaying the episode and using companion one-hour loop episodes for further practice.

0:00 Welcome: The Mind Palace Technique & Episode Overview Welcome to the Board Questions podcast. Today we will be utilizing a unique memorization technique called the Mind Palace to memorize the creed of the non commissioned officer. The Mind Palace technique dates back to the Greek poet Simonides of CE OS in 556 BCE and is currently used by many actors and other professionals that need to memorize long lines and scripts. 0:24 It involves creating a story driven narrative where you walk through a building and envision key things to help you remember the things you need to remember. A lion could represent bravery and a painting could represent a time in history. To be completely honest, the mind palace technique is a little corny, but it is still highly effective. 0:44 It can help you solidify not only the tenants in the creed of the non commissioned officer, but the order of it and the deeper meaning behind it as well. It helps guide your conscious and subconscious together to actually remember it in a tactile and effective way. In this episode, each of the three paragraphs will take place in three different sections of our setting. 1:05 We will be walking through the Castle of the NCO's, starting with a test of character at the entrance, learning our duty in the Hall of Responsibility, and working with others in the training courtyard. At the end of each paragraph there will be a quick recap and after we have explored the entire castle, we will repeat a summary 6 times so you can listen over and over until you have it down solid. 1:28 Let's start our journey through the Castle of the NCO's. 1:30 The Castle Entrance: Testing Your NCO Character After a long and arduous journey, you approach the Castle of the NCO's. Tall, towering, it has a large entrance. But before the entrance, your eyes turn to a statue of a regal warrior. You walk up to the statue, a mighty warrior clad in an IOTV and an ACH. 1:50 It had a plaque beneath it. You can see from afar the title of this plaque, which reads the first line of the creed. No one is more professional than I. Who is this professional? What did he do to become memorialized as a statue further down the plaque? 2:08 It explains what he is and why he is so professional. With the second line, I am a non commissioned officer, a leader of soldiers. Behind the statue lies the entrance and as you approach it you see a banner over it. This banner shows the same NCO as the statue. 2:26 But he is not alone. Behind him there are dozens of other men and women dressed in body armor and uniforms from the Iraq War, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, the World Wars, the Civil War, and all the way back to the Revolutionary War. 2:41 These proud NCO's span through eras, are time honored, and form a mighty backbone tracing back through all of America's conflicts. The bottom of the banner reads As a non commissioned officer, I realize that I am a member of a time honored Corps which is known as the backbone of the Army. 3:01 Underneath the banner lies the entrance, but it is not merely a door like you might have thought. Upon closer inspection, you realize that it is a mirror meant to test your character. You see yourself clad in the uniform you wear every day to work during every mission. 3:18 It is meant to measure your pride in your work. It judges how you conduct yourself as a soldier. It evaluates whether you bring credit upon the core. You know what to do. You loudly proclaim to the mirror with your voice booming and confident. 3:34 I am proud of the Corps of non commissioned officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the Corps, the military service and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself. Although you knew the correct password, the mirror still is not impressed. 3:51 It has one test left to judge your character as a leader. You feel a rumble in the ground, hear a low scraping sound, and see 3 stone pillars rise up out of the ground. On top of each pillar is a different temptation. On top of the first pillar is a floating heart representing lust and pleasure. 4:11 On the second, a bag filled to the brim representing Prophet. On the 3rd is a shield representing personal safety. The mirror declares in a loud and authoritative voice. Many unworthy NC OS have fallen to these three temptations. 4:27 Pick yours. You are not like those lesser NC OS of days past. You glance over each of the three temptations and realize the danger that they pose not only to you but to the soldiers that will be entrusted to you. You walk past them saying to yourself, I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit or personal safety. 4:51 The mirror seems pleased replying. You have been found worthy non commissioned officer. The way is open to you. Enter the mirror fades away and you are now able to walk through it. This journey represents the first paragraph of the Creed of the Non Commissioned Officer. 5:09 The first paragraph speaks about who you must be. Are you worthy to lead troops? Do you have what it takes to be an NCO? Do you know what being an NCO even is? And do you know of the struggles and achievements of the NCO's past? 5:25 Quick Recap of the First Paragraph's Lessons Before we move on, let's briefly recap your journey at the entrance to the castle. We'll do this twice to help you memorize it. You see the statue and read the headline. No one is more professional than I. You walk up and read why the statue was important. 5:43 I am a non commissioned officer, a leader of soldiers. You see the banner of all the NC OS of the past forming A backbone. As a non commissioned officer I realize that I am a member of a time honored corps which is known as the backbone of the Army. 5:59 You see your reflection in the mirror and declare. I am proud of the corps of non commissioned officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the core, the military service and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself. 6:15 The three temptations are placed before you and you know I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit or personal safety. And then you enter the castle into the Hall of Responsibilities. 6:29 The Hall of Responsibility: Understanding Your NCO Duties After passing through the mirror and stepping beyond the threshold, you find yourself inside the towering Hall of Responsibilities. The interior of the hall is dark, lit only by the flickering light of braziers that line the wall, yet only two are currently lit. 6:45 The smell of smoke and steel fills the air. You see a series of statues and displays along the wall and walk up to the first, the one with the two lit braziers. You see a large watchdog carved out of alabaster. The watchdog is poised, diligent, ready to spring into action. 7:05 You look at the oversized collar around the watchdog's neck, which reads COMPETENCE. You mutter to yourself. Competence is my watchword. To your right, two more braziers ignite. Suddenly the sound catches you off guard, and as you turn your head to meet its glow, you see a large painting. 7:25 You walk over and see an NCO at the center of the painting. The NCO seems troubled, as if she is trying to solve a problem that has no perfect answer. On her left hand you see the soldiers she is in charge of. She cares for their welfare, and she wants to make sure that all of them come home from the long and arduous war ahead of them. 7:47 Each of these soldiers is someone's child, someone's spouse, someone's brother or sister. Each and every one of her soldiers matter, and she cares about their well-being. However, on her right hand, she has a scroll ordering her platoon into battle. 8:04 A battle that will sway the war in the army's favor, but at a cost. It is likely that some of her soldiers will fall in defense of their country. She has prepared her soldiers for the tasks ahead of them and knows that each of her soldiers have worked hard to keep themselves fit for the task. 8:21 That comforts her but doesn't alleviate the heaviness of what is to come. At the end of the day, the accomplishment of the mission comes before the welfare of the soldiers, though both are extremely important and no good NCO will neglect either responsibility. You say to yourself, MY2 basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind. 8:42 Accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. As the words leave your lips, the next set of braziers light up and you are drawn to a table. The top of the table has a warm map. The warm map includes the various rivers, forests, and structures of your installation. 9:01 There are small red flags placed all around the perimeter of your installation, like chess pieces ready to strike your home. You look to the right hand side and see a pile of blue pieces on top of a book. You pick the pieces up and see the book is titled Techniques and Tactics. 9:18 You realize it is up to you to place these pieces and defend your home and the only way to do that is to know your techniques and tactics. You are a proficient NCO and you have already read that book inside and out. You have prepared for this. You know exactly what to do. 9:35 You confidently say to yourself, I will strive to remain technically and tactically proficient. The next set of braziers swoosh, illuminating the next display. This one is different from the others, scarier. You first notice a pile of skulls on the floor, each representing a fallen soldier standing over the skulls and irresponsible NCO weeping over the pile with his eyes plucked out. 10:01 There seems to be a small bag of coins dropped at his side, scattered about. This seems to be a cautionary tale and you approach it slowly carved into the ground before this grim display reads. What happened to this NCO and his squad? 10:17 The NCOSSG Callos was recently promoted and assigned a squad. However, SSG Callos accepted the promotion for all of the wrong reasons. All SSG Callos cared about was the fame and riches that the promotion would bring and was unaware of the gravity of his post SSG Callos didn't spend the time to memorize the creed, learn the regulations, or train up his soldiers. 10:44 He zunk soldiers as soon as PSG wasn't looking, growing lazy and incompetent alongside those he had sworn to lead. When the time came for war, none in SSG Callos squad knew what to do and died during their first mission. SSG Callos was unaware of the weight of his role and failed to fulfill his responsibilities. 11:04 You sigh and let out the words. I am aware of my role as a non commissioned officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. The next lights ignite and you see a formation of soldiers standing at parade rest. 11:21 The statues are different and they seem to be made of some sort of clay. They are not yet strong and resilient. They need your help. You walk over to them and you notice something interesting about their faces. They were carved with a strange expression, not noble or graceful. 11:39 They seem eager but inexperienced. They are bright but uneducated. They are ready but untested. They need leadership. They signed the dotted line and gave their freedom for their country. 11:55 They gave up a lot to be under your leadership. They not only need your leadership, they deserve it. They are entitled to it, You proclaim to your clay soldiers. All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership. 12:10 I will provide that leadership. Then. The braziers let out a great roar, unlike the others. The flames suddenly erupt, almost burning you in the process. You feel the heat scorch your eyebrows and back away quickly. 12:25 You stumble backwards and quickly get back up, continually moving away from the fire. However, as suddenly as the fire erupted, it dies back down. You look over your soldiers, the fire being the first real hardship they have encountered. 12:42 Most of your clay soldiers are still standing, but many are horribly mutated and melted away. Some are now missing legs, some have a hole where their heart should have been, and some have had their head melted right off. After a brief pause, you notice something odd. 12:58 Each soldier has been hurt in different ways. The fire should have melted each soldier in a predictable and uniform manner, but that isn't how the soldiers melted at all. A couple right next to the flame stood strong, while others farther away are completely destroyed. 13:15 It wasn't the fire that chose who fell and who made it, but the strengths and weaknesses of the soldiers. Each soldier has different needs. Some were weak in the legs, others in the mind, and some were weak in their heart. You realize the meaning of this lesson. 13:32 In order to fulfill the needs of your soldiers, you need to know your soldiers. You need to know their strengths, their weaknesses, and what needs to be improved before the fire comes. You whisper. I know my soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. 13:50 The Brazier flickers and you see something shoot out of one of them. It flies through the air towards you, landing close enough you can reach it. It rolls towards you, and you realize that it is a paper and a quill. It bumps up next to your hand, still warm to the touch. 14:08 You pick it up, confused. With paper and quill in hand, you get back up onto your feet. Your eyes look towards your mutilated men. The one closest to you has a name tag that reads Durham. Private Durham was one of the ones whose head melted off. 14:26 You know what to do and write down the instructions. Private Durham, study the regulations. You see the wax at his feet crawl back up and reform into his face and head. You carry on giving clear and concise communication to each of your troops. 14:43 I will communicate consistently with my soldiers and never leave them uninformed. After a while, you have managed to get all of your men into top fighting shape. You look around at your men now battle hardened and ready for the fights ahead of them. Before you have a chance to soak it all in, the fire from the Brazier flickers again, this time shooting out more than just a quill and paper. 15:06 It keeps shooting out hard metal objects lightly pelting you in the chest. After a moment it stops and you look at the ground to see what that was all about. You recognize the shapes on the ground before you. They are military ribbons given to you to give to your soldiers. 15:24 There are many different awards, but one of the objects looks different, a small scroll. You pick it up and see that it is in Article 15. It is up to you to give out these rewards and this single punishment. You recognize that there are many awards, but only one punishment and realize that as an NCO, you must be fair with who you give these to. 15:48 I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment. After pinning the awards and punishment, a door you didn't see before swings open, allowing sunlight to flood the room. It is blinding for a moment and then you realize that you have made it through the entire hall of responsibility. 16:06 Before going through the door, you take a moment to reflect on all of the lessons this hall has taught you. First you look all the way back to the giant stone statue of the watchdog named Competence. 16:19 Quick Recap of the Second Paragraph's Lessons Competence is my watchword. Then you turn your gaze to the mural of the NCO who had to balance the mission and the welfare of her soldiers. MY2 basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind. Accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. 16:36 Then you look at the war map on the table and the blue pieces you set up with the book labeled Techniques and Tactics. I will strive to remain technically and tactically proficient. Then the cautionary tale of SSG Callow standing over the skulls of his soldiers weeping because he was unaware of his role. 16:55 I am aware of my role as a non commissioned officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. Then you look at your clay Soldiers in front of you and all you have been through with them, the way they looked towards you for leadership, all they sacrifice to be under your watch and that they are owed outstanding leadership. 17:16 All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership. I will provide that leadership. Then the way that the fire caused them to melt in different ways, reinforcing you to know what their strengths and weaknesses are in order to address their needs. I know my Soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. 17:34 Then how you use the paper and quill to communicate to your Soldiers and allow them to strengthen their weaknesses. I will communicate consistently with my soldiers and never leave them uninformed. Then how you issued many different awards, but only one single punishment. 17:51 I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment. Your journey throughout the Hall of Responsibility has reinforced what you know and has prepared you to enter the training courtyard. 18:03 The Training Courtyard: Leading & Working with Others As you step into the bright sunshine, it takes a moment for your eyes to adjust. However, your ears pick up on something well before your eyes do the ranting and ravings of someone who is clearly overwhelmed. As your vision returns to normal, you see a stressed out butter bar yelling at a group of privates. 18:24 Apparently, this butter bar has a very important PowerPoint that he needs to choose a font for, and his deadline is coming up fast. However, since you have been absent, this butter bar has been forced to abandon his duties to kidnap a young private, Private NUM Nuts, who was about to marry the local lady of the night without adult supervision. 18:44 Private NUM Nuts has also purchased a carriage for 10,000 gold, more than it is valued at, simply because it had flames painted on the side of it, wasting all of the gold he had accumulated from basic training within 24 hours of arriving in your unit. It's time for you to step in. 19:01 You place your hand on the shoulder of the exasperated butter bar and say to him. Officers in my unit will have maximum time to accomplish their duties. They will not have to accomplish mine. The butter bar looks relieved and can now go back to his office to find the perfect font in peace. 19:19 He will most definitely get lost along the way. You then smoke private numb nuts. You smoke him until he learns you make private NUM nuts do push ups, runs, planks, and flutter kicks until it looks like he is about to pass out. 19:36 However, he isn't doing it alone. As a superior non commissioned officer, you realize that you need to earn the respect of this private Merely enforcing a physical fitness standard that you yourself can't attain will make him resent you. So you do the exercises with him. 19:54 In doing the exercises with Private NUM Nuts, you establish a few things. 1st, that you have worked hard on your physical fitness, which is a critical part to your presence as a leader. By physically dominating rather than barking commands, you show that you've earned your position. 2nd that the actions of Private Numbnuts not only hurts himself, it reflects poorly and hurts you too. 3rd, that you are willing to get into the thick of it with your soldiers. 20:23 You don't just stand around while others work and suffer. You are willing to suffer with them. All three of these things will help you earn the respect of Private NUM Nuts. I will earn their respect and confidence, as well as that of my soldiers. Huffing and puffing, it seems that Private NUM Nuts has learned his lesson. 20:43 You ask Private NUM Nuts to gather all of his battle buddies under your command to the training courtyard. He scurries off and after a few short minutes, people begin running into your formation. They seem visibly worried as they all see the exhausted state of private numbnuts and worry that your very first formation with them will be a smoke session. 21:03 You know that this meeting will set the tone for your leadership going forward. These soldiers aren't just clay like the last ones. You will have to depend on these soldiers to not merely do their job or make you look good as a leader, but to have your back and everyone else's back when it's time to go to war. 21:21 In order to do that, you have to show that you are loyal to them. You aren't here to smoke them for no reason. Private Numbnuts may had a reason, but the rest of your soldiers are starting with a clean slate. So you give an inspirational speech to your soldiers, recounting the perilous tales before coming through the castle of the NC OS. 21:41 You tell of your valor, your training, and your leadership philosophy. You show that you are loyal to your country, your army, and your people. They are your people now, and you will do everything it takes to put them second only to the mission. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve, seniors, peers and subordinates alike. 22:03 You then dismiss the troops to carry on with their day. You realize that you don't really have any orders and decide to take initiative. You look for the butter bar in his office, but he got lost and never found it. In fact, Butter Bar is nowhere insight. 22:20 It's time for you to act and rescue your Butter Bar. So you gather together your soldiers and let them know the situation. Butter Bar is out there alone, likely with no rations or water, and we as enlisted men need to save him. 22:35 You take the initiative and divide the land surrounding the courtyard and assign teams to go search their assigned section. It is close to dusk and the chances of finding Butter Bar alive drop significantly after the sun goes down under your leadership. 22:50 One of your teams walks along a roadside and hears a man crying out in pain. It appears that Butter Bar, without any sense of direction, tried to get his bearings by climbing a tree. However, his Community College just stopped offering their tree climbing course right before Butter Bar got to college, so he didn't have the skill set to climb it effectively. 23:12 That didn't stop him until it did. Your team rushes to his aid, calls up a nine line, and the case vac carriage takes Butter Bar to the nearest witch doctor. Your initiative saved poor Butter Bar's life, and the captain above him grants you an Army Achievement Medal for your initiative. 23:30 In the absence of orders, I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. You wear your new medal proudly as you go back to your room. However, the shininess of the metal attracts the attention of Private Numb Nuts's new bride. 23:47 As she is walking towards her new husband's room, she stops dead in her tracks to admire more than just your metal stuck in her ways. This ex lady of the night is not only attracted to the metal but the non commissioned officer wearing it. You then hear a knock at the door and she stands there with a nefarious look in her eye. 24:07 She throws herself to you, attempting things that would jeopardize your integrity and your moral courage. You shove her back out the door and lock it. You have acted with integrity by displaying moral courage. I will not compromise my integrity nor my moral courage. 24:25 As you brush your teeth and get ready for the night, you reflect on everything you have learned today. From the entrance to the halls to the training grounds, you have become a well-rounded professional ready to operate as a non commissioned officer. You will never forget the lessons that you learned here about professionalism. 24:43 Being a non commissioned officer, being a leader, I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, non commissioned officers, leaders. With the third paragraph of the creed and your experience in the training courtyard done, you tuck yourself into bed and think of everything you've learned there. 25:03 Quick Recap of the Third Paragraph's Lessons You started by helping the butter bar so he could accomplish his duties. Officers of my unit will have maximum time to accomplish their duties, they will not have to accomplish mine. You then completed a smoke session with Private Numbnuts, earning his respect. 25:19 I will earn their respect and confidence as well as that of my soldiers. You then gathered your men together and demonstrated to them that you owe them your loyalty and will give it. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve, seniors, peers, and subordinates alike. 25:36 Then, once Butter Bar was missing, you displayed initiative and took appropriate action without his orders. I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. Then once you retired to your new room, you did not fall into temptations with private NUM nuts, unfaithful bride. 25:56 I will not compromise my integrity nor my moral courage. And as you got ready for bed, you decided that you will never forget what being a non commissioned officer means to you. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, non commissioned officers, leaders. 26:15 Tired from the day's journey, you fall asleep peacefully. 26:19 Full Creed Summary: Cycle 1 of 6 You dream of all of the things you've been through, starting with the entrance. In order to reinforce this mind palace, we will go along with his dream as well. We will repeat this summary 6 times to best ensure that we remember this mind palace when it is time for us to go to our board. 26:37 You start your journey approaching the castle of the NC OS Walking up to the netterance you see the statue of the NCO and read the headline. No one is more professional than I. You walk up and read why the NCO was important. 26:53 I am a non commissioned officer, a leader of soldiers. You look above the door and see the banner of all the NCO's of the past forming A backbone. As a non commissioned officer I realize that I am a member of a time honored corps which is known as the backbone of the Army. 27:10 You see your reflection in the mirror as it judges you. You declare I am proud of the corps of non commissioned officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the core, the military service and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself. 27:28 The three pillars rise up from the ground and the three temptations are placed before you. And you know I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit or personal safety. You have passed the entrance which represents the first paragraph. 27:45 You then enter the Hall of Responsibilities. As you enter the Hall of Responsibilities, you see the giant stone statue of the watchdog named Competence. Competence is my watchword. Then you turn your gaze to the painting of the NCO who had to balance between her two hands, the mission and the welfare of her soldiers. 28:06 MY2 basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind. Accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. Then you look at the war map on the table and the blue pieces you set up with the book labeled Techniques and Tactics. I will strive to remain technically and tactically proficient. 28:25 Then the cautionary tale of SSG Callow standing over the skulls of his soldiers weeping because he was unaware of the importance of his role as an NCO. I am aware of my role as a non commissioned officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. 28:42 Then you look at your clay Soldiers the way they looked towards you for leadership. All the people they left behind to join the Army, all they sacrifice to be under your watch and that they are owed outstanding leadership. All Soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership. 28:59 I will provide that leadership then the way that the fire caused them to melt in different ways, reinforcing you to know what their strengths and weaknesses are in order to address their needs. I know my Soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. 29:14 Then the paper and quill that shot out of the Brazier, which you used to communicate to your Soldiers and allow them to strengthen their weaknesses. I will communicate consistently with my Soldiers and never leave them uninformed. Then how dozens of awards shot out of the Brazier, but only one single punishment. 29:33 I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment. Then the doors opened up and you walked into the blinding sunlight in the training courtyard. As you walk into the courtyard you hear Butter Bar screaming at private numb nuts, completely unable to do his job. 29:51 Officers of my unit will have maximum time to accomplish their duties. They will not have to accomplish mine. You then completed a smoke session alongside Private Numbnuts, earning his respect. I will earn their respect and confidence, as well as that of my soldiers. 30:08 You then gathered your men together and demonstrated to them that you owe them your loyalty and will give it. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve, seniors, peers, and subordinates alike. Then once Butter Bar went missing, you displayed initiative and took appropriate action without his orders. 30:27 I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. Then once you retired to your new room, you did not fall into temptations with private numbnuts unfaithful wife. I will not compromise my integrity nor my moral courage. 30:44 And as you got ready for bed, you decided that you will never forget what being a non commissioned officer means to you. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, non commissioned officers, leaders. 30:59 Then the dream repeats. 31:00 Full Creed Summary: Cycle 2 of 6 You start your journey, approaching the castle of the NC OS Walking up to the Neutrons. Podcast Summary

Key Points:

  1. The podcast teaches the NCO Creed using the ancient Mind Palace memorization technique, which links ideas to imagined physical locations and story-driven imagery.
  2. The first paragraph of the creed is memorized at the Castle entrance, where a warrior statue, a banner of historical NCOs, and a judging mirror test character against three temptations.
  3. The second paragraph unfolds in the Hall of Responsibility, using a watchdog statue, a mural, a war map, a cautionary tale, and clay soldiers to encode NCO duties.
  4. The third paragraph takes place in the training courtyard, where scenarios involving a butter bar, Private Numbnuts, and a missing officer teach leadership, loyalty, initiative, and integrity.
  5. Each paragraph ends with a quick recap, and the full creed summary is repeated six times to reinforce long-term memorization.
  6. The method aims to help NCOs recall not only the creed's words but their order and deeper meaning for promotion boards.
  7. The episode recommends replaying the recording and using companion episodes that loop the full creed or individual paragraphs for one hour.
  8. The technique is described as somewhat corny but highly effective for committing long texts to memory.

Summary:

FAQs

IOTV stands for Improved Outer Tactical Vest, and ACH stands for Advanced Combat Helmet. These are the modern protective gear pieces worn by the professional NCO statue at the castle entrance.

The uneven melting shows that each soldier has different strengths and weaknesses, not uniform vulnerabilities. This teaches that leaders must know their soldiers individually to address their specific needs before hardship strikes.

SSG Callos sought fame and riches, neglected training and regulations, and his squad died in their first mission. The tale warns that failing to understand the weight of NCO responsibilities endangers soldiers' lives.

Doing the exercises together earns the private's respect by showing the NCO has earned his position, that the private's actions reflect on the NCO, and that the NCO is willing to suffer with soldiers rather than just command.

It symbolizes that NCOs have many ways to reward soldiers but only one punishment tool, so they must be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment.

When the lieutenant goes missing without orders, the NCO organizes search teams and saves him, earning an Army Achievement Medal. This shows that NCOs must take appropriate action in the absence of orders.
