THE COACHING CAROUSEL NEVER STOPS - WEEK 14 CLEAN UP

The episode centers on a critical analysis of the latest college football playoff rankings, which reveal inconsistencies and perceived biases. While Ohio State, Indiana, and Georgia maintain their top spots, significant controversy arises over the placement of Texas ahead of Vanderbilt despite a worse record and a loss to Florida. Critics argue that the rankings favor head-to-head results and undervalue teams like Miami and Notre Dame, who have comparable records but are ranked lower. The discussion highlights a broader lack of transparency in the playoff committee’s decisions, with many viewing the system as self-serving and inconsistent—especially in how losses to elite teams are weighted. The episode also critiques Penn State’s coaching instability and recruiting failures, illustrating a pattern of mismanagement. Additional segments promote products like Stell Blue coffee (with animal rescue benefits), Twisted Tea (linked to college football), and Blue Chew (for male performance), while the host pokes fun at the absurdity of the system by referencing the "toxic X" at Ole Miss and the political maneuvering behind head coaching hires. Ultimately, the show delivers a sharp critique of the playoff structure, suggesting it is more about brand names and optics than merit, and questions whether the current model can fairly represent the best teams in college football.

Marshall's college football podcast brought to you by twisted tea, twisted tea, hard iced tea. Nothing goes better with college football than a nice, cool, cold, twisted tea. Big Ev's got one right there in his hand. I've got one in my hand. Casey and her number seven ranked Aggies will certainly be enjoying a home playoff game with one of these twisted teas very, very soon. I have to say, I will need copious. Hold on, hold on, hold on. Tommy, show your outfit. Show your outfit. Show your outfit. Just show your outfit. God, he's so grown up. It's crazy. It's a good fit. Oh, fire. Hell yeah. Oh, yeah. Real one. Unbelievable. Oh, he's walking around. He's walking around in a Canadian tuxedo at home. What is going on here? I love that shirt. Jacket, jacket, no shirt. That's a fit. That's a lot. Hello, ladies. That man pulled off a fucking fit. But shout out twisted tea. I will cope. I will responsibly need copious amounts if the matchups stay the same right now, because we would be slated to have a home playoff game versus Notre Dame. Yikes. But. But, hey, listen, a lot can happen. But shout out twisted tea getting us through. We got a lot to talk about, and we got to squeeze it into about an hour tonight. Listen, the latest college football playoff rankings are out, and I can't make sense of some things here. Some of it I can make sense of. I'll say what I was surprised by, but I can make sense of it. You know, I'll do all that. We got to laugh at Penn State at some point, because, my God, one of the more incredible things. We'll laugh about Penn State. I promise you. But right now, T-Bob won't be here tonight. We're going to talk about the college football playoff rankings, okay? So right now, as it just came out, this, I guess, is the penultimate one, the second to last one. The last one will be next week. I guess it'll be on Sunday, correct? Yes, Sunday. And listen, we've got a lot of Lane Kiffin stuff that maybe we can get to in the second half of this hour. Anyway, right now, college football playoff rankings, Ohio State number one, Indiana number two, Georgia number three. No surprises whatsoever. Texas Tech number four. Oregon number three. Here's where a mild surprise that I'll get back to. Oregon's five. Ole Miss six. Aggies seven. Oklahoma eight. Alabama nine. Notre Dame ten. BYU 11. Miami 12. Texas 13. Vanderbilt 14. Utah at 15. And then you've got some teams that just aren't going to ultimately matter as far as this goes with Southern Cal, Virginia, Arizona, Michigan. Michigan still being ranked as absolutely precious. Tulane. Houston. Georgia Tech. Iowa. Yada, yada, yada, yada, yada. All right. A couple things that surprised me a little bit. I got one mild surprise and one major surprise. Casey, what do you want first? Well, let's go mild first. I was mildly surprised they dropped A&M as far as they did. A&M was number three last week, I believe. They lost to Texas. I don't have to say my feelings about that game. That's been well documented. I thought they would drop either to five or six, and they dropped behind both Oregon and Ole. Ole Miss. Ole Miss without a coach right now, but they dropped below Ole Miss. Ole Miss' best win is Oklahoma. Texas A&M's best win is Notre Dame. Oregon's best win is. USC or Iowa. That's interesting to me. That's very interesting that Aggies dropped that far. I thought they would stay. I don't know how you put Oregon over Ole Miss and A&M with both of them having a decent win, but that's a mild surprise to me. I guess the thought. Depending on what they weigh more, Oregon's only loss is to Indiana, which is the number two team in the country. Now, I agree with you. They don't have as good of a win, but who knows what they're weighing in that room. I was surprised, too. I thought at worst six, but Texas being right there, right on the bubble, too, it surprised me a little bit. I guess if you do the math with five, six, and seven, it is who's best loss. That's what it looks like to me. It's Indiana. It has the best loss in quotes. Then you have Ole Miss, and then you have A&M. But at the end of the day, I don't think it's necessarily going to matter in the long run because I think it's going to shake itself out. The commissioner, or whatever his name is, I never say his name right, he made it very clear to the ESPN guys that just because you don't play this upcoming weekend does not mean that your ranking is set. He was very, very adamant about that. Now, I don't know how that's possible, but he was very adamant about it. So, I don't think it's going to stay necessarily five, six, seven like that, but it surprised me as well. Yeah, good luck explaining that next week if it does, in fact, happen. But the major surprise to me happened right outside the top 12. It's Texas at 13 and Vanderbilt at 14. Texas beat Vanderbilt. They played a game, and Texas won that game. And obviously, the committee is valuing that game, except Notre Dame is 10 and Miami is 12, right around the corner from these two teams. And Vanderbilt and Texas' records are not equal. Texas is 9 and 3. Vanderbilt's 10 and 2. And yes, Texas played Ohio State, and that is commendable. This narrative that everybody's writing, this fiction they're writing, saying the only reason Texas is 9 and 3 is because they played Ohio State. Well, they're also only 9 and 3 because they played 4 and 8 Florida and got their fucking ass kicked. I have no idea. Big Ev, I'm going to let you have this one. Maybe you can make sense of it. I don't know why 9 and 3 Texas. Texas is ahead of 10 and 2 Vanderbilt. Well, I mean, I just tweeted it kind of trolling before, but selfishly, it's kind of funny that Ohio State is so good that essentially, if you just lose in Columbus, it just doesn't count, apparently. If you just, like, lose to Ohio State. I mean, even Michigan, like, they didn't drop that far. Like, if you just get your brains beat up by Ohio State, apparently they just don't mind that. I honestly think Casey's initial thing is right. Like, it's weird where, like, it seems like they're valuing, like, losses. But at the same time, with Texas, that doesn't make sense. Because, like I said, they got beat pretty thoroughly by Florida. No, I agree with you. It makes no sense that they're holding that win in such high regard, but then Miami's win just doesn't matter. Because Notre Dame, the same thing, we're like, they don't have good wins. Like, listen, if they were 10 and 2, and then went and knocked off, like, three of the top 10, like, sure. Then, you know what, maybe they would have earned that right to jump Miami despite losing them head up. But they've done nothing to make this big leap, over Miami. Like, just because their losses are to better teams. Like, they, I just don't, I don't understand it. And, yeah, Texas 9-3, it makes no sense. Over Vandy, like, Vandy's, I mean, they lost to Bama. And I know the score ended up looking, like, not great, but it was a competitive game throughout. I don't, I don't understand it. I mean, to me, it's more that it just seems like they're just setting it up where it feels cut and dry that it's like if BYU wins, like, Notre Dame would be out. And then if they, but if they lose that, Notre Dame will just grab that last at-large spot. I don't know. It doesn't make sense. They contradict themselves. Outside of Texas, and you just, you brought that up, outside of Texas, it really does seem like they're looking more at the losses. Because when you look at Miami's losses versus Notre Dame's losses, Miami has, quote, worse losses. So, being a fly on the wall would help a lot. But outside of the Texas one, it really does seem that it is that way. I just, I have said this about over and over, and I know a lot of people agree with it. I just don't know how, if you have a head-to-head in the same season, how you can leave a team out that beats somebody that's in the playoff unless it's just, when the records are the same. Like, I just do not know how you can leave Miami out and put Notre Dame in at both 10 and 2. You just can't do it. That sets a horrible precedent. Liam, where do you see sense and nonsensical things in this whole thing? Ohio State's one, and Indiana's two, Georgia's three, Texas Tech's four. There's some sense. I mean, the majority of it is just pick-and-choose nonsense. as it always has stuff matters when they want it to matter stuff doesn't matter and they could look the other way when they don't want to matter they contradict themselves constantly it's a constant year in year out thing that we've come to depend on they're they're fraudulent human beings who cater cater to the sport in a way that it shouldn't be um i don't know like what what you want me texas texas texas i mean texas is texas is on the outside looking in they're not gonna get in but they're right there because of the brand that they are they're better brand than vanderbilt that's all it is like i just don't know what you want me to say it's a joke it's always a joke it will continue to be a joke say whatever you want to say man i did play i was gonna ask liam what do you think about what's going on with where they've ranked the g5 teams uh i i won't like jim james madison i think is better than north texas and tulane i just don't think it really matters like two of them are gonna get in anyway i i don't think the ranking really matters i don't really care about the ranking truthfully i don't see all right um there's no way they put two g5 teams in what do you mean they might have to if duke wins then the group of five gets to win they they fuck themselves in this whole thing and the acc fucked themselves too with i mean virginia lost another game to nc state that didn't get in and they're not gonna get in and they're not gonna get in and they made this little weird tiebreaker that fucked miami when miami anyone with a brain and eyeballs that can watch college football and understand it knows that miami is the best team that acc has to offer and they fuck themselves out of it they acc is just an unserious conference that this is gonna be their title game and they've ruined they've ruined this whole not they haven't ruined the whole playoff the best team's still gonna win but regardless the world we're just wasting two spots it's a travesty in a year where there's many deserving teams like miami like vanderbilt like the fact that those kind of teams are probably going to be out and then jmu and then like do potentially duke is going to be in this playoff is just sickening and it's at this point they should just have a g5 playoff i've defended g5 my whole life i love the g5 but now it's becoming a mockery this season has made it generally a mockery and the g5 is no business being in this playoff anymore i hate that i have to say it but it's just the truth it's just the god's honest truth they have no business they're literally a donation to the to get just absolutely molly whopped by whoever by it's oregon or old miss or a&m or whoever ends up being in that spot listen it looks like oregon and then i guess it'll be yeah old miss too old miss too like they're gonna get absolutely smashed when it could be vanderbilt and miami two teams that would be that like at least competitive like you could at least make that argument be competitive it's just it sucks it sucks because it feels like two games that could have been good are just going to be asked and it essentially gives number five and number six a buy which is one of those teams that's great um you know and i would love to be in that spot as an aggie but that's what it does and i mean i understand that g5 has to have a place in the sport and in years like when ucf was really good uh and they were undefeated put them in the playoff this group of five is a disaster what's stopping jmu north texas two lane from uh well two lane got smacked by old miss but what's stopping jmu from competing with old miss old miss barely scraped by washington state was it that lane kiffin was just catering to a bunch of women that week and then game plan is that why the washington state game was close and jm you can't compete with old miss in a playoff maybe it was 11 45 kick i don't know shit gets weird uh i mean i mean they also played two lane and one but you did just say it with the two lane thing i did say i did say i just want to get i just want to get a joke in there yeah okay all right fair enough so brand sometimes the fellas gotta get a joke off yeah got it got it hey nobody understands that more than me i try all the time still haven't landed one um yeah so so i don't casey you said something about how the committee chair was very adamant that just because you're seven this week might not mean you're seven next week like okay alabama might lose byu might lose i don't know i don't know how that would affect like anybody like oregon's not going to move a and m's not going to move i don't like indiana if they lose ohio state it's not falling past three i i don't i don't really see where all the drops on their campus uh so that i and i think it was reese that was asking i was half listening half putting my son to bed but um it was more about i think the miami situation is kind of what they were trying to get him to answer and of course he wasn't he was very avoidant of of talking about what miami is going to do but i mean i guess if you look at potentially what happens in the big 12 championship like if texas tech somehow doesn't win they drop and then you know there's dominoes if they decide hey you know old miss doesn't actually deserve to be a head of head of a and m lane kiffin's not there maybe they switch that up but i agree with you in theory like there really shouldn't be a lot of movement i guess like the biggest thing is if alabama wins the sec where that puts them because then they would obviously have to start dropping teams and moving them up so there is different scenarios where i could see it making sense but just to come out and just officially say nobody's set without any type of like here's why they're not going to move a and m's not going to move a and m's not going to move up and then they're going to move a and m's not going to move a and m's not going to move they're not set that to me was kind of a cop-out like at least lay out what that would look like if those seeds are going to change because i mean if alabama wins the sec they will absolutely move ahead of old miss and a and m you would think so then those do start to drop a little bit but i don't i don't necessarily know what would drop indiana out of the top four but i do think five six and seven could change theoretically with alabama and texas tech hi i just i i you i think i have the answers when i think i know what's going to happen we go and do things like have nerd aim two spots ahead of miami oh okay well you don't really care about head-to-head that's cool okay you you think the nerd aim is better than miami two spot okay cool and then texas is out of vanderbilt nine and three texas is ahead of vanderbilt why because they have the head-to-head i friend i i don't know what to say i don't know i like what what do you do they did that's those spots that's those teams 10 12 13 and 14 and within five spots of of rankings there you have two completely diametrically opposed schools of thought and they just don't care they don't care why would 10 and 2 vanderbilt be behind nine and three texas that's what i don't i i don't i don't like that and i understand it's all you know the dog and pony show they're in case you let me stop you there let me stop you there and people on the chat are saying exactly what people are saying on twitter whiny ass texas fans who are going to pretend like you didn't get lucky to beat kentucky in overtime and lucky to beat us in overtime and you're saying you're saying oh we have three top 15 wins well what the goddamn do you lost a billy napier you lost a billy napier lost three times sorry no it's also the same it's also the same texas fans and i mean listen obviously they're going after me uh congratulations and credit to luki for putting out that clip i love every second of it it's also the same texas fans that were talking shit about doing the same thing last year with ole miss and it's the same exact storyline we had lane don't lose to florida stop crying you're going to lose to florida it's the same exact storyline so and i understand texas fans are like what are we supposed to do not campaign campaign campaign away have sark do whatever you want you still are the number one team going into the year and you're having to beg for a playoff spot not because you lost to ohio state not because you lost to georgia because you lost to florida and barely beat ole miss i mean barely beat mississippi state and kentucky that you just you have to use your fucking brains here but the point here is okay texas is ahead of vanderbilt got it head to head i respect that and move right up the pole notre dame is ahead of miami well and that's what i was saying before before you answer the chat it's like you know obviously the playoff committee is in bed with espn and it's the dog and pony show and the whole thing they should have to answer for that like they should have to sit up it's not just a 30 minute show we're just like well i don't know we'll see what happens like give us real answers like if you want us to take this seriously which i guess at the end of the day it doesn't really matter because we're going to sit and watch it regardless but it is kind of just like they should have to answer exactly why things are because they're not going to do it next sunday like next sunday is whatever like a two three hour show and it'll be fine they should have to they should have to say exactly what the criteria is and if they won't get them the fuck out and get people in that will that nobody will give correct answers because the correct one they really don't have correct answers it's just nonsensical business that they opt to make up and two if they give you a correct answer it's that texas is the better brand and the ohio state game was just a scrimmage it's a bunch of stuff that'll make them look hideous and also i said this on saturday and it's in the clip that's that's going making its rounds you can schedule these non-conference games and win them by the way and i'm not just talking about a and m and south bend like that's what happened in the past like you can't just say well we scheduled ohio state see and like we scheduled them and we lost you were the number one team or maybe the number two team depending on what poll like stop acting like it was some like charity that you guys did to go play ohio state play the reigning national championship like that's crazy to me like honestly it's the only thing that's keeping miami alive the notre dame win yeah like i'm saying if they didn't have that they would be like an afterthought in this whole thing i just don't understand like you're the university of texas You were number one preseason and you're trying to, to make oh we we went and played the national champs we should like so fucking what beat them i'm not worried about texas being ranked ahead of vandy by itself you you could argue with three top 15 wins that texas should be ahead of vandy and i would listen to that but they're right next door to notre dame miami who are so that that's the anyway precedent yeah yeah there and that's the thing there is no precedent because they're two diametrically right beside each other correct anyway anyway it's a joke texas thing and i i reacted to it like a joke i know no i i i was saying the whole thing is a joke yeah yeah great great agreed agreed uh read an ad then i'll pivot that's well that's what i was about to do hi roughnecks we'll be right back after this word from our sponsor stelle blue coffee's new can lattes are here crafted with 100 percent new cans today taste the difference and make a difference all new stelle blue coffee cans lattes now available at stelle blue coffee.com or subscribe on amazon for 10 off and now back to the episode all right well i mean we could we could drive ourselves crazy over this ultimately what rankings came out tonight don't matter um it's just going forward in these conference championship games you got bama and georgia you got ohio state and indiana in the most meaningful meaningless uh game i've ever seen um i know for a fact ohio state really wants to win this big 10 championship i mean they haven't won in a couple years it would really be a stamp indiana has just never won it and this will be gigantic for them and ultimately the winner is going to be the one seed the loser is going to be probably the three seed is what i would guess i think they would fall behind they got smacked well honestly the thing that i wanted to bring up with the way the ranking is right now like if bama were to beat georgia does the sec just not get a team with a bye because the way georgia's sitting at three right now what was what was bama nine yeah so i mean so like are they gonna if they win are they gonna jump all the way to four oh so the way you just laid it out is it possible if bama beat georgia that five six seven and eight could all be sec teams yes correct that's what i'm saying and for espn would love to have a bunch of home playoff games in the sec and that's why when it when it when you look at oregon ole miss and a and m again they shouldn't theoretically move but they absolutely will if alabama beats georgia they have yeah there's there there's there's still a lot of balls at play in in the air here still a lot going on there's no way they would jump alabama all the way to four would they that's what i'm saying that'd be a massive jump hold on hold on so they would be big tent teams with a vi so right now they're behind oregon ole miss texas a and m correct yes um so if they win yeah they win they now have something like uh they have they would have two wins over georgia they would have uh a win over number 14 vanderbilt i'm just looking at who else they beaten they would have what i did look like some of their rank wins are gone now but they would they would have a pretty pretty strong resume all the way to four i don't know and if they moved then they move them to four then that you know and obviously again assuming texas tech wins like there are a lot of things that could change here i think i think i'm going to refuse to believe the third place big 10 team would get the buy over the sec champ i think i gotta refuse that's why i'm saying i think that i think alabama would move all the way to four my only thought is just for the there are conspiracy theorists out there they'd like to move to four they're going to move to four they're going to move to four they're love to have the big espn keep the big 10 on the shelf for a week let all the sec teams play home games all that i don't it's a weird it's a weird thing because i agree with you time out time out time out time out silly time out did your little big 10 p brain did your little big 10 oh i'm sorry everybody hates us really come up with the fact that getting three teams with a buy would be a slight to the big den did that come no i didn't say a slight i did not say a slight you did you no i didn't i said esps would love to just showcase and have all their sec teams playing on tv in their home stadiums in the south there's no world no i'm not no i'm not three big 10 teams in the top four i never said it's gonna happen second of all that would be no i'm just saying the way it's ranked right now like i i was just kind of putting i thought i was just kind of putting the pieces of this puzzle together if that scenario plays out because bam at the because bam at the jump from nine to four would be a pretty good idea i don't know i don't know if i'm gonna be able to do that i'm saying if because if texas tech wins in that scenario i think they just go to like two or three the loser big 10 would go to like two three or four and then i think oregon would just slide up like i don't know how you jump alabama especially if which listen they've clearly shown they have no rhyme or reason what they're doing they're nincompoops but there's if they value losses so much that i mean losing by a thousand to florida state is one of the worst losses in the playoff probably the worst loss in the entire playoff can you imagine though like hypothetically if ev is right let's just say i don't i don't think they would put three big 10 teams in the top four but that means that they would have a playoff in tuscaloosa in athens in oxford and in college station like that's crazy correct the way it is now it's like i don't see that it's not like that crazy of a thought i just and then i guess technically it occurred to me in the in the middle of the show i was like could bet could there just be all sec first round play at home playoff games yeah wild and i do think we are ignoring the the main story here um where the fuck is juice kiffin who is taking care of this dog casey i have been on this podcast with you for six years and for about four of those years i have made fun of this motherfucking twitter account on this dog and i said they are just doing this for attention they are just doing this to get likes they're just doing this to make them seem likable and you said no you can't go after juice you hate dogs you you you can't do that you're just a dog it's a little puppy dog and you said that you said that to me and now here we are lane got on a plane and juice is somewhere locked up uh in purgatory somewhere probably uh begging for scraps in oxford uh no lane kiffin and ole miss pulled off the heist of the century by faking juice kiffin this should be the biggest story in america first of all first of all i still don't think you can make fun of a dog okay so i'm all my points all these things are just a joke and i'm not gonna lie to you i'm not gonna lie to you i'm not gonna okay don't make fun of the dog itself and i don't know where juice is at the current moment i he's a wild rose kennels i do know and by the way he's at a farm the kennel wild rose kennels it's not like he's that's oh i know it's so sad i do know real classy lane for a fact a hundred percent guaranteed for a fact that it was his dog who lived with him at one point i do know this and that makes it worse i'm just saying it's not like the dog after he got 16 retweets it's not ever ever his dog i don't know if it's still currently his dog he and landry did pick juice out and they did have him live with them as soon as his q score went up as soon as people started to like him he said get that fucking dog out of here no no no i do know also for a fact that he was with him at some point this season okay i i do know these total ops brandon brandon house in his house i do know these things brandon once you were able to use grok well he got rid of juice that's the timeline he was he started groking juice he started using ai juice there was an actual there were photos and videos of juice in the kiffin household yes in the pre grok era this season the pre grok era anyway that's all that's all i can announce this i have started i have filled out paperwork to adopt juice kiffin he will be mine thank you brandon mine i have discussed i've discussed ownership i will i will give that dog a good home uh that dog deserves love he deserves me more than a photo op deserves me more than a prop by a fake coach and a fake fan base uh juice you deserve the world and i am going to give it to you juice juice juice walker he's living a very happy life and he was landry and lane kiffin's dog i i don't know where the dog is currently at wild rose kennels we don't we do know he's at wild rose kennels we know where he is we don't have eyes on him quite yet but the narrative of him never being lane's dog is not that makes it worse with that stop defending this idiot i'm not defending it i'm not defending i'm literally just you are defending it no it might be worse you might be right if he was once his dog is no longer his dog i'm saying that it was once his dog it makes it worse right well that's i know i'm just i'm just putting points out i i'm other i go in every week to get me a jersey for uh for jersey um so here we go do it three or four months ago i can't remember penn state stepped up after years of getting embarrassed by james franklin and going 11 and 1 and 10 and 2 and 11 and 1 and 10 and 2 and being near the top of the sport not at the top of the sport but near the top of the sport at the top of their conference for years and years and years penn state had finally had enough they said this is not good enough we hate winning 11 games we hate winning 10 games it sucks then as soon as they started to show some weakness as soon as he lost a couple games he shouldn't have lost james franklin get the fuck out we are penn state we are football we mean business we win championships here we need a serious coach so come on down so so come on down micah all right come on down eli all right come on down kalani's come on come on down somebody somebody please somebody out there want to take the penn state job this is one of the most pathetic coaching searches i have ever seen in my entire life every time they circle the wagons on somebody he breaks through the wagons and goes to wherever he wants to go they're getting more they're they're getting more raises for people than casey's thirst traps they are absolutely out of control they're getting more raises for people than casey's thirst i can't believe it liam make sense of it this is the worst athletic directing job of all time this is the worst coaching search of all time like you said he's getting he's actually a really good ad for everybody else he's getting so many people paid it's beyond impressive i at the end of the search when they finally hire a guy i want to take up the cumulative amount of money that he got other coaches paid for it's going to be a substantial amount how if an ad misses on like three guys in the cycle it's already pretty like it's a bit worrisome he missed on about 13 targets and counting how is that possible brand walker so tomorrow is national signing day one of the 17 national signing days that we have these days because college football just don't know what it doesn't know what it wants to be anymore um penn state has lost every pretty much every recruit to virginia tech i don't know if this graphic i saw was correct just a second ago probably isn't probably isn't but it had penn state ranked 129th in current recruiting between harvard and uh and louisiana monroe well that's probably not true but it's like it's not far from true um they've lost every recruit signing days tomorrow they have no leader they have no plan they have no nothing penn state has made the biggest mess big haven listen they're in your conference that that's what i saw that just can't be right oh no it's outdated they've fallen further they're 138 they are be i will start at 135 navy missouri state montana state penn state right ahead of akron ahead of middle tennessee state ahead of montana ahead of oklahoma state they fired him in september it's signing day what are they doing you I truly believe this job it's kind of this perfect storm of disaster in the sense that it's this school that any coach walking into it you have you understand that the expectations are through the roof except for they're not ohio state they're not like an lsu lane kiffin situation where he goes there he says you know i can win at lsu i've seen three different coaches win in the last 25 years at penn state you can't say that they have all the expectations they haven't won a title this century so i think they're walking in there and and i think it's the perfect job to get yourself more money at the current job you have where you're more secure in because this school if you're not with if they just showed you if you go 10 and 2 it's not good enough for them and the second you slide a little bit below that you're gone instantly like who would want to go there when you when instead like you can be like like you said a sataki or like a brent key or something like that where you're good where you're at if you if you have like a six and six season here and there and then by the way you win 10 games it's great i think penn state is just the perfect shit storm of crazy high expectations that are just delusional it's yeah it's just you're gonna walk in there and if you don't win immediately like they're gonna be like what you're just gonna get compared to franklin and the school's become a meme now they become a meme of just like just falling short they're like the face of falling short in college football by the way uh shots fired here at oklahoma state we're making fun of penn state and look at the cowboys just hanging out down there at 142 oh man just here so as much as i you know like to talk shit about james franklin when you know all the things were happening and it was one of my talking points going into the season and blah blah blah all that as soon as they fired him i said it a lot of people said it you better have somebody that you know can at least sustain that success ready to go because if you don't it is going to be one of the worst decisions you can possibly make because even though he couldn't get over the hump even though he couldn't win the big one even though did completely start to fall off after they lost to oregon this year he was still winning 10 games he was in the final four of the playoff last year like and i again i i want to erase my own brain and be like hey like james franklin wasn't so bad at penn state how are you penn state and you don't have a coach how and everyone else in the country is going out and getting the guys that they want or at least like their second or third option and it's december 2nd and you don't know who's your coach and you were the first major program to fire your coach like that's allowable on the surface i i am okay with the decision to fire james franklin because it is decisive it is so it is it is a statement we are penn state we're not putting up with this shit and everything that followed after that was the opposite of that everything that followed up that of that was the opposite of a statement the opposite of we are penn state it was please come coach here oh you're going to stay for more money okay sorry sorry to bother you have fun and nebraska like what go get somebody go put your dick on the table and get somebody you try to go get byu which i don't know if sataki was going to fit at penn state they're just throwing the they're throwing everything in the wall now see sataki at least they did like money wise they threw their dick on the table they quadrupled the guy's salary basically yeah they tried but i think you also need to know you also need to know when you throw that money out there you need to be dealing with a school that ain't going to be able to match you like they ain't shit to it yeah i mean they it the the memes that came out of this between penn state and byu were incredible they tried to take a mormon man out of provo that's that's tougher than dealing with the devil brandon also and i mean it you know it's old shit but like it's not like penn state's got a squeaky mormon clean reputation so i like i but they were swinging like they definitely were they were banking on after whiffing on like so many people they were banking on an iron bull disaster that's what they were banking on Never came to fruition. Lincoln Riley's agent withdrew his name on Sunday. That never comes to fruition. They, they collides to talk. He wasn't talked since like November 17th ish. You can never come to fruition. If the butts were candy and nuts. Correct. You cannot be Penn state and swing your dick around pretending like you're one of the biggest brands in the country and go through what they're going through right now. You just can't be like you, you are a laughing stock of college football. If you're like, look at Penn state, you can win a national title at Penn state. We're one of the blue bloods, all these things. And you still can't land a coach. It is made. It has set them back so far in these conversations. It's just, it's hilarious. Let's just be honest here. I mean, like a bunch of jobs have come open and, and handled their business. Michigan state comes open. They go out and get a path Fitzgerald who is, should not have been on the unemployment line. He, he, he never, he got real, he never wrote it at Northwestern Michigan state fires or coach bang, goes out and gets their guy. They have a plan. Kentucky fires, Mark Stoops, offensive coordinator from Oregon, Will Stein bang. They got a plan. You can't tell me the ADs at Kentucky and Michigan state are better than, than what they can put together at Penn state. It's just been a botched thing from the very start. And, and, and it's, it's an embarrassment to who and what Penn state believes that they are. Wait a second guys enter the room. Dick first, blue chew. Isn't just a tablet. It's a cheat code for your crotch, stronger, harder, longer lasting. Like someone gave your downstairs, a pep talk and a gym membership. I'm talking longer lasting erections. Big thanks to blue chew for sponsoring this podcast. Boy, oh boy. I don't know where we go from here. Let's just do chat. We can do chat. We got about 10, 12 minutes left. If you want to weigh in and say something that tickles my fancy that I think is worth talking about, I'll talk about it. But man, you have your mouth purse to talk. Yeah. Uh, if, do you get so desperate that you call Brian Kelly? Oh, wow. Hmm. You know, ironically, they're getting there. I don't think he'd be a terrible fit there. No. How are they? How are they not done? He didn't, he didn't fit. He didn't fit. Baton Rouge. He never should have gone there. It was a mistake to leave Notre Dame. I mean, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. No, Brian Kelly's a disgrace, though. It would be hard to go from James Franklin to Brian Kelly. It would be, but it's – Could it be better than the alternative? I mean, he did get LSU into the conference championship a few years ago. I'm not saying they were good. They needed to move on from him. Whatever. He's an asshole. Penn State's kind of an asshole school. Can we mention one other thing outside? Go ahead, Blutman. I got one more. No, no, no. You go. You go. We live in a world where Vanderbilt just flipped the number one quarterback prospect in the country. Yes. What? Yes. Okay. Jared Curtis was committed to Georgia. He flipped his commitment to Vanderbilt. That's the world we live in, and it's pretty awesome. It's pretty awesome to see a guy not just programming himself to go to Alabama or Georgia or Ohio State every single year. So, I kind of like it. Yes. And this is also why I think when we talk about coaches going to jobs where it's like you can or can't win a national title, that that is one of those things that is going to be a thought of the past. And was it Joel Klatt you guys had on Wake Up Barstool that kind of said the same thing? It's like it used to be where you had to go to a big brand name to win a national title. But in the era of the NIL and the transfer portal, this is why I do think that's necessarily not true. I do think that Lane could have potentially won a title at Ole Miss. I do think that Kurt Cignetti could win. But why not, though? You know who doesn't believe that he could win a title at Ole Miss? Lane Kemp. Well, him. Okay, but he's – okay, then Kurt Cignetti at Indiana. Then let's look at him instead. Because it used to be you had to go to these big brand schools to be able to win. Now you're seeing quarterbacks not go to the brands that won multiple national titles in this last couple decades to go to Vanderbilt because he believes in that team. So, whatever is going on at these different schools, if you get a right coach and a right fit, I do think that you can build up. It'll take a little bit longer. But once you get boosters to buy in and you say, hey, we're going to get the top talent, why can't these guys win at these other schools? Well, that. And listen, I don't know if you saw, but, like, this guy, if the picture I saw is correct, he's got a full left arm sleeve tattoo. He's got a full sleeve tattoo. Like, he pretty obviously wants to just pick up where Diego Pavia left off and be Diego Pavia. And that's probably the best advertisement Vanderbilt football could have. What is that fucking face? What? You were like – you did that? I was reading the chat. Oh, okay. Well, you grimaced. It's blurry on the TV. He was grimacing. Before we get into the chat, you know what, Brandon? We all like to lay our heads down at night. We like to lay them down on our Bowlin Branch sheets, okay? I know it's been snowing a ton in Chicago. Go get your mom, whoever it is, one of the robes or the blankets. It's a home run of a hit, the Casey Smith guarantee. Can I, Ole Miss got some good news today that Charlie Weiss will return and coach them in the playoffs. Their play caller will come back to coach them in the playoffs. So why not just let Lane Kiffin coach your team in the playoffs? Why did they absolutely throw a stink and say, no, absolutely not. You cannot come. You cannot come in our building if you're not our coach, but Charlie Weiss is going to go be the offensive coordinator at LSU next year. And you're letting him back in the building to be around your players. I, you know what it is, you know what it is? It's the toxic X that you want to, you want to say, go fuck yourself to the X, but like you have the friends around and you don't necessarily want to cut the friends off, but like, you're not going to make the friends completely make a decision. That's what it feels like to me where it's like, yes, like you're going to follow the toxic X, but it's not really your fault that it became this toxic. So you can come back and coach. Just don't bring in the X with you. That's what it feels like to me. All right, chat. Give me something. Give me something. Or could it be, they think they have the best chance to win with them. That's probably it. It means I just wanted to, why is it Dan Mullen getting tied into the jobs? Cause he has already Dan Mullen is waiting for the Mississippi state job to make his glorious return. So when Jeff Levy wins 10 games next year and goes to wherever he wants to go, Dan Mullen comes back. Or if Jeff Levy gets fired, which is far less likely scenario Dan Mullen returns to take his rightful seat at the throne of Mississippi state. I got Mullen. Don't worry about it. Don't Mullen Mullen Mullen's happy. Mullen's fine. Did he answer your DM? Whether he answered it or not. Time will tell. Time will tell. Well, I'm just saying, I wonder, did he leave you on red? Or did he, did he pick up his phone and type a message into the box that said reply? No. But did he, in a sense, give me a reply simply by receiving the message? Yes. So it says seen. Did he, did he actually, did he physically type out a message saying, Brandon, I appreciate you. I can't wait to get back to Starkville and start building this thing again with you in case Jeff Levy doesn't win 11 games and go playoff next year. That's what he said in his spirit. And I felt it. Hey, listen, as long as you felt it, also while we're recording, Lane Kiffin's just getting dunked on by all his Ole Miss players right now, which is really fun. And those, those, Everybody at Ole Miss is full of shit. The second they lose in the playoff, every single one of those players is going to enter the transfer portal and go beg him for a spot at LSU. What's happening as we speak, Liam? Just go to his note tweet where he said, like, I'm going to LSU, blah, blah, and just read the quote tweets of all these players. Can we also laugh at the fact that, like, all of his hot yoga people are coming out now? That's funny. No, I'm sick of these Ole Miss people coming out now with all the DMs and Ole was terrible at hot yoga. He didn't like our playlist. Shut the fuck up. Oh, no, no, no. I agree. I think it's very weak and it's petty and it's all that, but it's just, like, this sport is so stupid. Like, it's so dumb. It causes these people to do this. Like, this is a true reality television show. It's like, you wronged us, so now we're going to come out and talk. Like, the one girl that was, like, he used to roll golf balls at us in class or whatever. We could never say anything because he was the head coach. It's like, are you serious? Like, this is a, this is a, not only a real sport, a sport that pays all of our living and we're talking about this. It's incredible. As long as it's not my school, I don't care. Do you want, do you want to do any of the other head coaching hires? We haven't, like, talked about Summerall and stuff. Yeah, we'll hit them quickly. Hey, I was super impressed with Kentucky, how buttoned up they were. Kentucky looked like on Saturday night they were going to keep Mark Stoops and I don't know if they were planning to and then 41, nothing changed their mind, but they quickly move on from Stoops and get Stein from Oregon. I think that's an outstanding young hire. I think that's fantastic. I would give them an A plus for doing that. Summerall to Auburn, Summerall to Florida, excuse me. I apologize. I like the fit, although maybe, maybe Florida, you could have skipped hiring a G5 coach from the state of Louisiana this time around. You know, I, I had that thought too, but I also, I also feel like if you really liked the guy, you shouldn't just do it out. You shouldn't not do it out of the fear of optics out of the fear of, oh, we did the G, the hot G5 name. We can't do that again. If you think he's the best guy, then he's the best guy. That's how I see it. At least I don't, I don't think the optics are like the narrative should, should cast you away from doing what you think is the right, the right move. You know, Golis at Auburn, I think Golis is getting an awful, awful lot of credit for, what was his record of South Florida? Like 19 and 15. Like it was, he had a good year this year, but I like Auburn's happy to get Golis. Arkansas is furious to get Silverfield from Memphis. I don't, I don't know the huge gigantic difference in those two coaches. I'd prefer Golis. Definitely. Personally. Give me why though. So the Silverfield, like Silver, he really like Memphis. I guess you, listen, you can argue both sides. Memphis had a, Memphis was already good before he got there. Like he hasn't made them better. You can already, I'm pretty argued, but he made them worse. Also like his record against, I think it's 500 above on our teams is like 12 and 20. Like he hasn't been able to even get them like over the hump in the AAC. He's never made the conference championship game there. He inherited the incredible roster. Incredible situation was never able to take them to the next level. They were consistently talked about as a preseason playoff team because of the talent they had. He wasn't able to do anything with it. They were, they were already good with Norvell. Norvell had them in a good spot. He kind of, he's actually made them kind of worse. He was, I mean, you forget Memphis fans want them on the hot seat. And also Florida, I would assume really believed they had a shot at lane. Like this isn't like going after, you know, like that, that to me is where it's like, okay, like that wasn't their first choice. And then once they realize, okay, we don't have a shot at lane anymore. We've got to go find somebody else. That's kind of where it's at. Did you see the article where, the lane said, yeah, I went and talked to Florida and I, I, I, I, he found Scott Strickland, the 88 Florida to be weird. I think Lane Kiffin is the most full of shit guides ever coached in football. We're talking about a guy that three weeks ago said, I'll never make a decision about money. And then immediately went and got more as much money. I don't know how much money I'm making. I just told my agent, get me, I'll sign the contract. He tried to tell, tell the whole world, God, everybody that Jimmy Sexton just never told him. I told him numbers is, is one of the most foolish things. Like you, you look at numbers when you're like working any job ever. Like, what are we talking about, sir? Who do you guys think will be the next Vandy or Indiana? First of all, next Vandy is, I mean, like Vandy's 10 and two, they're number 14. Like that's, there'll be one of those every year. Like Virginia is the next Vandy. Virginia is 10 and two. And they're in it. So, um, but Indiana, Indiana, that's a question. Um, but I can see the Vandy argument. I think, I think just for, just for the sake of it, I tweeted this about them today, like with Clark Lee and Pavia. And I think the answer could be Cignetti. That's fine. Cause obviously they've, they went higher. They're going to go back to back playoff. They're going to be a top four team this year, but I mean, you could all like with Clark Lee and Diego Pavia and, and really just that crew that as like Tim Beck, all these guys have done in two years is like one of the greatest, uh, like jumps in like cultural history. Like I said, you could argue probably even, I wouldn't argue against you saying Cignetti in Indiana, but like what, I mean, they just won the most games they won in 110 years. Well, and you know, as you were like the number one guy, at least that I've known that was on Diego Pavia. I mean, two off seasons ago when we did our, you know, our predictions and our graphic, like we all said Vanderbilt was going to be the worst team in the sec. Cause that was just the easy answer. And you said, absolutely not because of Diego Pavia. And look, here we are. I mean, I do think that Vanderbilt coming from the worst sec team, just every single year to where they are now is pretty, pretty amazing. I think so too. I understand. Indian has done better. That's fair. And they've also been historically horrific, but, but I think Vanny deserves to be in that same kind of like, and just in terms of the leap, the stock rise, if you will. All right. Y'all ready to get out of here? We'll, we'll, we'll, we'll be, we got one more, one more business. Do it one more business game time. So on Sunday, we will officially know where these home playoff games will be. Okay. So you can, you know, start your engines, get ready and game. Time's going to have all of them. Of course they have tickets to all the championship games right now. Lukey, you just sent to me, you can go to Atlanta to watch Alabama, Georgia, the SEC championship for a pretty good price. And game time is the official ticketing partner of Barstool sports. And the game time app gives the advantage back to the fans. And that's huge. If you've been buying tickets in this day and age, you know that a lot of these places they'll hide fees, they'll hide costs. And all of a sudden the tickets that you thought you got were way more expensive, not with game time. It's incredibly easy to use. And the game time guarantee means you can trust you will get 100% authentic tickets on time and the best price. And like I said, the fees are always, is included. So you see what you pay tech, take the guesswork out of buying college football tickets or any tickets concerts as well with game time. Actually the screenshot that Lukey sent me, you can also see that Morgan Wallen is going to be there soon. So you can just go, you know, look around, see what you want to go to download the game time app, create an account, use code rough. That's R O U G H for $20 off your first purchase in terms to apply, create an account, use code rough for $20 off swipe tap ticket, go download the game time app today. Also another gift suggestion for guys out there, for girls, whoever's listening, maybe get some tickets for the holiday season. I love a good Christmas gift event. You know, we're going to go to an experience, use game time and use promo code rough. All right. That should do it. Thank you for, um, I don't know when we're coming to you next. We'll, we'll figure that out. Um, thank you for watching. Otherwise we'll, we'll come to our Twitters. I don't know. I never, we have a, the normal episode tomorrow that comes out Thursday to preview championship weekend. Are we, why aren't we doing three? Are we still doing three? What do you mean? Well, this should be the last week of three, right? I thought this would be the last, I thought we would do our, our championship game preview recap. And then it's kind of just, but yeah, this is the last week of three. I have a scheduling issue tomorrow. I got to go to lids, but we'll, we'll, we'll figure it out. We'll figure it out. All right. Thanks. We'll see you.
