The Coaches Poll Is Out and Brandon Talks 1 on 1 With Pardon My Take's CFB Expert | The BFW Show 8.6.26

The episode of the Brandon Walker College Football Show features a mix of satire, analysis, and opinion on college football culture. The host launches into a scathing critique of ESPN’s list of “top 10 college football super villains,” dismissing the inclusion of figures like Caleb Williams and Tim Tebow as absurd and hypocritical, particularly for their personal habits and public image. He then shifts focus to a detailed review of the Coaches Poll rankings, arguing that Indiana is severely underrated due to strong defensive returns and veteran depth, while criticizing Texas A&M and Iowa as overrated based on their schedules and team performance. A major point of contention arises from a Purdue athletic director's statement that Indiana doesn't win championships, which the host deems foolish and disrespectful, especially given Indiana’s recent national title win. The segment underscores a broader theme of sports integrity, criticizing the misuse of leadership language and the tendency to mock rivals. The show also touches on current coaching trends, like the dismissal of Dan Mullen in Florida, which the host sees as a poor decision despite Florida’s subsequent struggles. Additionally, the host discusses the broader cultural landscape, including fan loyalty, player development, and the role of leadership in college football. The episode concludes with voicemail segments, including fan questions about team performance, coaching, and the future of programs like Yale and Harvard in FCS, all while maintaining the show’s signature blend of humor, irreverence, and passionate commentary. Throughout, the host defends the value of respect, humility, and strategic depth in college football.

That means 23 days until we get college football. I believe that's right for week zero. We get TCU and UNC, and we get Virginia, and we get NC State, and we get Memphis, and we get UNLV, and name one more, Liam. Then we get Stanford and Hawaii. Stanford and Hawaii, very good. Thank you very much, there's Liam. Due to popular demand, I did spend 29 bucks at Walmart, got Liam his own microphone. So here's no longer, no no poor man's, laptop set up, he now has a microphone. So thank you, Liam, get out of here. All right, here it is, the Brandon Walker College Football Show episode two. I wanna say a couple things. First of all, 143,000 people watched the first one on YouTube. I don't expect that much this time, but whatever, hopefully the drop-offs not that bad, but I am just a poor stupid redneck from Mississippi. I thank you for allowing me to do this stupid shit for a living, and for allowing me to do a stupid show out of my house. Therefore, 143,000 of you are my best friends. I thank you for that, and of course, in my mind, in my vision for this thing, it's more of a podcast than it is a YouTube show, but we are gonna be live on YouTube every time we record a podcast. So if you don't make it to a YouTube show, please always make it. And if you don't subscribe, we have 10,000 subscribers on Tuesday, please subscribe. You can wake up in the morning, go to Spotify, go to Apple, go to wherever you get your podcasts, and please, please, please, listen to it there. That is my vision for the show. And today, the other day we had Josh Payt, I think I'm gonna try to have a guest every single show in August. We're gonna be Monday, Thursday, Monday, Thursday, Monday, Thursday, season starts. We'll go Saturday, Monday, Thursday, Saturday, Monday, Thursday, Saturday, Monday, Thursday. And during the lead up to the season, we'll have a guest every single show. It was Josh the other day. Thank you, Josh. And tonight is Tom Fornelli, Tom Fornelli of the Cover 3 podcast. They do a good job over there. One of the better podcasts in college football land. And I've got Tom Fornelli tonight. We talked about 45 minutes for college football. We're gonna get to our stuff in just a minute. We're gonna have how many things I got? I got six things. No, I got five things tonight. Then we got voicemails. Then we got Fornelli. We got all that lined up for you. Thank you. My voice seems okay. My voice seems all right. I didn't have love this morning. I was able to get my sleep. I was able to not talk as much on the act. I walked out three times. So that helps my voice. Here we go. Thing number one is maybe. Maybe, Brando, you stressed? Yeah, I'm a little stressed. Yeah, my face is breaking out. What do you want to do? What do you want to fucking do? Anyway, need guest to carry show. No fully sports for life. I don't need guest to carry the show. I can carry the show. But I think this show to me is about talking ball with people I like and that's what I'm going to do. So if hating ass haters want to show up and say you need guest to carry the show, guess what other show needs guest? Every single other show ever because guests make it better. They just do. Anyway, thing number one. And it's my favorite thing, maybe of all time. And I got lucky to see it today. ESPN, you guys know what ESPN, right? A place I'll never work. ESPN said today. They put out an article written by Ryan McGee. And before I ripped this thing to shreds and before I call it stupid and before I do all these things, I got to say Ryan McGee, very talented guy, very talented writer. In fact, right here. That's welcome to the circus of baseball by Ryan McGee. So I have supported the man by buying his book before. I have absolutely supported him. He is a good writer. But he wrote something today. That I think could go down in sports writing history as the biggest load of bullshit I've ever seen in my entire life. I'm going to walk you through this thing. College football is about passion. It is about good guys. It is about bad guys. It is about villains. It is about heroes. So obviously, the concept of the top 5 or top 10 college football super villains of all time is a very good concept. And it's August. We're sucking up anything that has to do with college football. Anybody that writes anything that says college football in the title, I'm just sucking it right down. Just give it to me. Just give it to me, please. So I'm ready. I was ready to suck Ryan McGee today. Didn't give me anything to suck. So chat, by the way, somebody says get groomed and known. You'll be very happy next week. The top 10 super villains, the article is written on ESPN. Let's go through the list. Now when I hear the name, when I hear the word super villains in college football, I immediately go, well, I know what number one is it's Sandusky by a mild done. Print it. Let's get it out there, folks. Aaron Hernandez probably killed some people. OJ Simpson very likely killed some people, a lot of a lot of history in college football, a lot of guys have done some bad things, a lot of racism, a lot of criminal activity, a lot of bad stuff, a lot of stuff under the table. This is going to be fun. Here is college football villain number 10. It is of course Caleb Williams and I think and I think that's fair in a world of Sandusky and in a world of Aaron Hernandez and a world of all these bad people that have made college football their home. The guy that wore nail polish and won a Heisman trophy, probably one of the worst people out there, absolutely terrible person. I think it's high time somebody said it. I think it's high time somebody called out Caleb Williams for being a bad dude. Man, it is so fucking past time to call him out for wearing nail polish. Buckle up, it gets, it gets better and worse. Number nine, number nine, of course, Deon Sanders. Now I'm not going to be an ostrich, put my head in the sand. Deon knew what he was doing. Deon when he was in college football, played a character. He was prime time, his right cocky, did a lot of things, did his dances, did everything, but that was a character that made him a lot of money throughout his life and throughout his career. And again, Jerry Sandusky, right little boys in the shower. So I, but here folks, now that you get Deon Sanders and Caleb Williams, the fun is out of the way. Let's get to the real scumbags, the real assholes, the real terrible people of college football. I'm telling you, the next eight are going to be guys that make your fucking skin crawl. Number eight is Tim Tibo. Tim Tibo. Now, obviously, Tim Tibo, that rap scallion. Obviously, he spends his time these days by throwing proms for special needs children and basically taking the cutest pictures of every spring and it's amazing and it's beautiful and it's wonderful. And obviously, he used to take a knee and prayer. And obviously, what the fuck are we doing? What even went, even when Tim, hold on. Turn out, even when Tim Tibo was on top of the sport in college football, people were like, damn, I hate that Tim Tibo for being good. He seems like a good guy though. Damn, he seems like a good dude, but shit, I wish he wouldn't win so much. It was never, that Tibo is a fucking villain. That Tibo pisses me off. What is Tim Tibo? And I understand he's using the term villain as people that opponents and fans and everybody loved to hate. But Tim Tebow, again, Tim Tebow was somebody that begrudgingly, people were like, gotta give it up to him, man. He seems like a good ass, dude. Number seven. What'd that say? That's a ESPN? I don't know why you wouldn't just say the SEC at this point, but ES, sure, ESPN. I'm not gonna lie after he put Tebow. I didn't read the rest of them because I was like, I can't do this to myself. That's what, whatever. Number six, greatest supervillains of all time. Agreed. Number five. Six was nowhere to aim, by the way. Number five. I don't know what I'm saying. Number five, the 1990 Miami Hurricanes. I believe they beat the Texas Longhorn's 46 to three in the Cotton Bowl. I believe they danced on the sidelines and we're getting 15 yard penalties left and right and left and right and left and right. At least this is a good version, a good actual villain. Those guys were assholes. Those guys were real assholes. Tim Tebow prayed. Number four, on Ryan McGee's list, because of footballs, all time supervillains. The Boz, the Boz, and I'll say that my wife, the blessed saint that she is, ruined this segment. I had my Boz shirt picked out for the night and she watched it and it's wet. And I couldn't come on here and a wet t-shirt. We haven't known each other long enough for me to drop the titties and a wet t-shirt. I haven't known my wife long enough for her to drop the titties and a wet t-shirt. So what am I gonna do? Liam. We've got Caleb Williams, Deon Sanders, Tim Tebow, ESPN, Notre Dame, the Miami Hurricanes, and the Boz are the top four through 10 of the biggest villains in history. What do you think? - I mean, it's a list of killers, Brandon. Some of the worst people that have her walked the turf. I'm frightened and I'm shaking in my boots as we go through this list. - At least we do have room here. Three, two, and one for Jerry Sandusky, OJ Simpson there in Hernandez. So number three is Johnny Menzel. Oh, Johnny, Johnny Menzel won a Heisman and sometimes rubbed his fingers together as if he was getting money. He was cocky, true son of a bitch, true son of a. Ryan McGee hates cockiness. Number two, I guess, you know, OJ maybe he was never actually convicted. So we got room for Aaron Hernandez and Jerry Sandusky. Number two is, of course, Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin is, of course, he does have tweets. Yes, Liam. - He's a tweeter, yeah, he's a troll. He's an, that's his crime. - By the way, by the way, the chat is bringing up a good point. Brian Kelly, Brian Kelly got some shit out there. But, easily peasy, it's all good. We're having fun with this list. Ryan McGee, good writer. He's got number one writer, Jerry Sandusky. You go ahead and put up number one. The greatest supervillain of all time in college football. So. Where's my cell, though? (phone ringing) Sorry. Sorry, I just, I had to, I got knocked out there for a second. I thought that said Steve Spurrier was the worst part. The biggest villain in the history of college football. Bring the list back up. - Hi, Roughnecks. We'll be right back after this word from our sponsor. - Football is back. Why didn't he say, why didn't he go with like cocky guys, character, something, something, but supervillains, supervillains is like, villains do bad things. That's just me. But I did text Blutman today and I said, hey, hey, hey, Blutman. Let's do our top five supervillains of all time. Top five supervillains in college football history will do it very quickly. Number five, what's yours? - I actually am really mad I didn't have Brian Kelly. Good from the chat. Number five supervillain, college football time for me, Jamal Williams. I remember at BYU, he had sex and got kicked off the team. That's a big no no. Remindable kid band national championship for his coogers. - I had number five, Daringly, lineback, Ohio State, convicted of first degree murder. Number four, who do you have? - I don't like how Kirk Herb Street's dog Peter Herb Street stole the spotlight from Ben after Ben passed, so Peter Herb Street. - I've got number four, Ray Karuth murdered his girlfriend. - Oh, okay. - He's a pregnant girlfriend murdered. Number three. - I had the Athens police department because if they were a little more lenient on crime Georgia would probably have five or six extra national titles by now. - I had double murder O.J. Simpson, who do you have at number two? - Sarah Fuller. - I had number two Aaron Hernandez. - Aaron Hernandez, murderer from the number one. - A number one, I had Jerry Sandesky. Who's your number one favorite all time? - I had George Cleef cough, the commissioner of the Pac-12 will kill the conference. - Pretty bad guy. - Thing number two, thing number two, the coaches pole came out the other day. The coaches pole ranking the top 25 teams in college football. Of course, I've got, I saw the coaches pole. I have three teams around the way, three teams are overrated. I do think one thing stands out to me immediately and you bring up the coaches pole now. Thanks guys for watching. Thanks guys for liking and everything. Who we got there, Jesse Adams. Grateful keg. A lot of guys, a lot of guys. We'll get to the chat in a minute. We'll do some stuff. Here's the coaches pole. Number one Ohio State, number two Oregon, number three Georgia, number four, Texas. Five, Notre Dame, six in the end. I'm seven Miami, eight Texas A&M, nine, Oklahoma, 10-0 mess. It goes on from there with Alabama at 11. You got Texas Tech on down through the list. Tennessee at 18, Penn State at 17. Clemson, checking in at 23. Missouri at 25. You can see the whole list on the screen if you're watching on YouTube. I got a couple of thoughts here. Number one is, this is immediately outdated, we haven't talked about this, Liam. But this is immediately outdated in the sense that Indiana is number six. Indiana won the national title last year. Coming into the season, we know they've got a good quarterback. We know they went out and got some talented receivers. We know they went out and got some talented offensive players. But defensively, I was worried up front. They were going to have to go through a little bit of a change, a little bit of an adjustment, a little bit of, maybe, you know, I don't know. They got to put it all together. They were going to be good defensively. They bring it back a lot of starters. But now, over the last two days, you've had announcements of daily coming back, and then the guy today, tell me his name, Liam, I didn't write it down. But the guy today, two guys, two defensive linemen that were out for injury at the end of the year last year, both coming back for fifth years, Indiana adding, I believe, I think, but Ellie, it's at 125%, bringing back 125% of its defensive production, defensive line production last year. So Indiana right now, if you're telling me they're getting guys back, they're getting the elder state sun back, they won last year by having a veteran 24, 25, 23 year old team. And now they're, they're stacking those guys on top of those guys. I kind of think six is way underrated for them. What do you think about it? Ellen, why is the other guy that they add? Yeah, I think Indiana is being undervalued at this point. I think we has watched them walks through win tough games, win national championship, and that we're not putting the same respect as we should. I guess people are questioning Hoover and his turnovers, but we know that our offense is going to limit that. Yeah, number, I got three underrated, three overrated teams. Number one underrated team is Indiana at six. I just mentioned them, but I really think it's just, you can't justify them being five spots out of the number one spot when they didn't lose last year, they bring back so much, they have the best coaching staff in the country. So six is low for them. I think seven is low for Miami, and this is a tough one because you would have to convince me to get somebody out of there, but I just refuse to believe in this world with Dary and Mensa coming in that there's going to be six better teams than the Miami Hurricanes. I don't know who I would take out of that. I don't know if I would take Notre Dame, like everybody up there looks really good, but I just, in my heart of hearts, I think Miami's gonna spend most of the season inside the top five, 'cause of the schedule, 'cause of the quarterback, 'cause of everything they got. So I'm excited about that. And then my last underrated team is a team that's not ranked Louisville. I think Louisville, I just don't think there's any world where the Louisville Cardinals shouldn't start the season inside the coaches' full top 25. Not one team's like Missouri or in there, not one team's like Iowa or in there. I just look at Louisville. I think Keen Holtz is gonna be good. I think Brom has built this roster up over a couple of years. They had to really shore up the offensive line. I think they did in the portal. I think Louisville, with the schedule they got too, starting off with Ole Miss, that's a sneaky game for Ole Miss. They got SMU in week three, and then not a whole lot else. I think Louisville is an underrated team. Anybody stick out to you as underrated? I mean, it is Louisville for me. You know I'm bullish on them. I think I'm gonna be all over them in the opener against Ole Miss in Indiana as well. Indiana I think should be in the top four and we're having them sixes. National champs kind of wild to me. Overrated, I don't want to just hate on teams, but I do think ranking Texas A&M 8 is refusing to acknowledge some truths that they were there last year in the playoffs because of their schedule. That they played eight SEC games. Seven of them were against teams ranked 10 through 18 or 10 through 16 in the Southeastern Conference. That's pretty substantial when their first seven SEC games are against the very bottom of the league. And then once they played a team in that top half, Texas beat them and then Miami beat them. Like, I don't think Marcel Reed is that good as a quarterback and their offensive line, and both lines of scrimmage have issues. I think eight's crazy for Texas A&M. I think you've got to acknowledge what they bring back and the way they got to where they got to last year. It doesn't come up to the number 18 for me, also overrated. I've got Missouri at 25, no idea. No idea how they get this spot. I'm on Hardy, great running back. I don't know if he's gonna play. I really don't. And then you've got the quarterback, is it not telling to people that when Austin Simmons went down, it's one thing that he didn't come back and he didn't get the job from Trinidad Chambers. By that time Trinidad Chambers had shown that he's one of the great quarterbacks in the country. But Lane Kiffin took another job and Lane Kiffin showed really no interest in getting Austin Simmons to LSU. No interest in getting a guy who has coached for two years. He said it on Sam Levitt where he could have reached out to a guy that he called his starter going into last year. I mean, I think he saw what he needed to see where he realized that's not really a quarterback. It's gonna win you a lot of games in the SEC. I just don't see it. I don't see it with number 25. And lastly, I don't like just jumping on teams over and over and over again, but you gotta tell me, why, why Iowa is ranked? I know the defense will be good as always. They don't even know who the quarterback's gonna be. Last year, they probably had the best quarterback they've had in the years. Did it make much of a difference? No, they were still Iowa. They were still the same team. Now this year, you're gonna be in a league. You look around like even the lesser, the lesser quarterbacks, the lower tier quarterbacks, a Drake Lindsey at Minnesota is good. I think House are at Illinois gonna be good. I think Joseph Wisconsin's gonna be a step up. There's gonna be a lot of good quarterbacks in the big 10. They don't have one. I don't know how they're ranked. I don't know why you put them there. Who you got is overrated. Iowa's schedule's actually kind of fascinating. Look, I'm looking at right now. They're at Michigan and then host the Iowa State and then go at Washington and then the back half of the schedule's win the world. That's pretty fast thing. Uh, I think Alabama's fairly overrated. We haven't seen any reason to have them rated the top 12 team right now. Uh, thing number three, after I tell you about a hard penis. Oh. It's something I think about often. I go to bed and I'm thinking about hard penises. I wake up thinking about hard penises. And I want you guys when you think of this show and you think of my face to think of hard penises. And that's something that's very important to me. It has given me four kids, three of them mine. So shout out to Bluetooth. This episode sponsored by Bluetooth. What do women want and need money? I don't know about best newer helmet in college football, but I do have the new Albany Great Danes helmet up here. I don't know if you guys saw it. So I got the new Albany one and I. I also got a Central Michigan Mini. I forgot to put my Central Michigan Mini up. So thank you Central Michigan for sending the Mini. Anybody wants to send a helmet or anything else for the background? Again, shout out to Jay Sternberger, former all SEC tied in at Texas A&M for sending in his all SEC statue plaque, it's glass. So thank you very much, Jay Sternberger for sending that in. Anybody else, I interviewed Archie three today. I asked him for his Heisman. He told me that if Mississippi State wins a national title in the next 10 years, he will send me his Heisman trophy for the background. So I look forward to that in a couple of years. Thank you, Kamario Taylor. So again, anybody wants to send me a Heisman trophy, that's fine. I would appreciate it. Thing number three, the Purdue Athletic Director of which I'm going to know his name shortly. He goes in a press conference today and I don't even care. You got the clip, right, Lukey? We got the clip. So there it is, Purdue's Athletic Director is getting ready to talk to everybody. He got the Purdue behind him and he says this shit right here. Every recruit, every current student athlete will hear this message repeatedly. We are here to win championships. If you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana. Every recruit, every current student, who the fuck was in the crowd that laughed? That was, I know it's early, it's August. It's August 6th. We got a lot of football season in front of us. I challenge you right now. Find me a person of authority in College football that says something dumber than what that guy just said right now. There's so, I go back a hundred years. There's so many times in the history of athletics and human beings that you can say Indiana doesn't win championships. I don't think six months after they win their first ever College football national title, you can say, you know what we do here, Purdue? Win championships, baby. You know who doesn't? Indiana, I almost said Iowa, but they don't either. Indiana, that Blutman is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard. Have you ever seen anything worse? I just know, I think he was just trying to pull from the Signet Playbook. This guy just got hired like last week. Okay, you, okay, you stepped all over my next point, but you're exactly right. That, the point Liam Blutman, look at Ghibli and my point. Yeah. This is the signification of College football. That guy knew he had to deliver a Kurt Signet line and he didn't think he didn't stop to think, maybe I shouldn't insult Signeti. Maybe I shouldn't insult Indiana who just won a national title. He knew he had to deliver a WWE promo. He knew he had to deliver something that got everybody excited and then he went out and said the dumbest shit that's ever been said. Crazy clip, crazy thing to say, I don't know if I can go forward. I don't know how much confidence I got if I'm a Purdue fan and that guy is calling the shots in my athletic department. Yeah, but Brando, look at his success at Rice. Thing number four, fair. Thing number four is now this guy said something that is not bullshit. This guy, good point, who said that? Michael Cat in 1915, Mincey has surely said something, "Dumber, true, true, but to my knowledge, Mincey is not in a position of leadership. He is not in a position. of being the face of an athletic department. He is not in a position to call the shots for a team who's, frankly, Purdue trying to get back to better days 'cause they've been down bad for a while. Number four, Dan Mullen was asked about some things and he had some things to say about his time in Florida. They were talking about the Florida Gators and how Bill and Napier came in, had a couple of years and now they're trying to start over with some role down there. And I do think some roles could coach Mullen said, I think three or more four years there, we would've made the playoff, but hey, it is what it is. Probably hasn't gone as well there since I left. It doesn't seem like. And immediately a bunch of Florida fans jumped to the internet and said the same old tire-talking points they've lied about ever since they fired him after one bad year. The firing of Dan Mullen after one bad year remains one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen in a big time college football program. He won 10 games this first three years, went to the SEC title game, then he has a bad one and they fired him immediately to hire Bill and Napier, a coach who at his best would've been 30% as good as Dan Mullen. And now John Summerall, hopefully over the next five years can hopefully get Florida back to where Dan Mullen had him, 75% of his time at Florida. Florida fans will say, yeah, he didn't recruit, he hated recruiting. Dan Mullen's final three classes at Florida were ranked ninth, 12th and ninth higher than Bill and Napier's average recruiting class higher than anything they've done since. Florida's gonna recruit about the same level every single year and with the transfer portal these days, you don't have to worry about what your high school recruiting ranking is and you can already tell he knows how to get quarterbacks out there at UNLV and you're sitting there stuck with who you going with the quarterback? Exactly. I just think the Dan Mullen hiring was wrong when it happened. It's wrong now and whenever he spikes the football on Florida who cannot get back to where he had him, I think it's justified and I think it's worthy. And here's exactly what dumbass Gator fans say. John says, as a Gator fan, just 'cause Napier suck doesn't mean Mullen was some elite coach. Look where he ended up, UNLV, go back to Mississippi State where you belong. God willing, if we ever have to make a move or if Jeff Levy wins 10 and goes somewhere else or if he gets fired whatever, God willing, Dan Mullen finds his way back home 'cause he just went to one of the dumbest places in America. Anyway, why won't Florida fans just say it? We shouldn't have fired him after one year. We should not have fired him after one year. They dig in, they say just 'cause the next guy suck, doesn't mean he was good. Yeah, that actually does mean that. He was, he won 10 games three years in a row. Bill and Napier was never gonna do that. And John Somerall probably ain't gonna do that. And John Somerall's good coach. Thoughts Liam, Dan Mullen. You hit every nail on the head, I think he's correct about going to two or three playoffs when he was up Florida most certainly, especially in the code of entry. Yeah, so like, I don't know. I'm excited to watch Fylo this year for what it's worth, but yeah, that was a terrible decision. They all, nothing much else to add. I'm not gonna jump on Florida fans too much, but every time you go online and say, like Kewan Lacey is the best running back or Hardy is the best running back, they just all show up. Jayden Bowel, Jayden Bowel, Jayden Bowel, rest for 600 less yards than either of those guys did last year. Anyway, Andy Dink at shot. I guess that's true. I guess that's true to my knowledge, Jayden Bowel has not gotten shot. But the mod heart, he's still the best running back in the country despite being shot makes you think. Truly a special tone. Yeah, thing number five, one more comment before we get to voicemails and one more comment before we get to the Fort Nellie interview. Thing number five, Dylan Raiola talking about his time at Oregon and his time at Nebraska. And he basically just saw fit to shit on Nebraska on his way out. It's definitely been in transition. I'll start with the landscape outside. There's not cornfields here. There are mountains and trees, and I love nature. Certainly don't think. So I think cornfields probably qualify as nature, but what do I know? As far as football, it's different with coaches and players, like we have a lot more talent than we did in Nebraska, including in quarterback. And I don't say that's a knock on them, but I think everybody will know that. Dylan Raiola is a former five star that transferred in high school. I believe 36 times. Then he goes to Nebraska. They give him the keys to the kingdom. They start him. And he repays them by going to Oregon to take basically a red shirt year and take a whole lot of money, I'm sure, and be Oregon's quarterback. It just goes to show you, when you recruit a five star quarterback, it doesn't mean you're getting a five star leader. You're getting a guy who has arm talent, who can wow the scouts, who can push the ball down the field when everybody's wearing, you know, fake helmets without face mask. When everybody's wearing shorts, when the quarterback's got that ridiculously long towel, they can do that, but you're not exactly guaranteeing yourself a leader. And when you're Dylan Raiola and you're a five star in Nebraska royalty, and you go to Oregon, that's fine. Go get your money, go get your spot, go get your NFL future, go get whatever you want to get. Just don't turn around and look at Nebraska and insult them in any way, shape or form. And maybe there's corn fields there, and there's nature here. And we got better talent than they do. Isn't the worst thing that anybody will ever say. But it's so much easier to say nothing. It's so much easier for Dylan Raiola to just say nothing. And saying something just tells me that I'm not sure they got the leader, they were bargaining for when they went out and got a five star quarterback. That's what I have to say. Thoughts, Liam. Am I cooking or am I cooking? - I don't know what you're cooking, but you're cooking something. They ain't mincey grilled cheese. I don't understand Dylan Raiola. This should be a year, a few months stretch until December, where he's quiet and we don't hear a peep out of him. And the next thing we hear about the Raiola is, I'm a big time leader going into the 2027 season. I can't wait to leave the ducks. Or I took the money elsewhere and I'm transferring again, and doing this whole stick over again, I keep quiet, bud. That's all you gotta do for three, four months. - Also do you think part of him wishes he had gone to Texas Tech? - I probably please call it Triple 27 as Texas Tech all the time. - He transferred himself. Update from my dynasty. Lenore Sellers won the 2027 Heisman at the University of Tennessee, and Bryce Underwood is currently Tennessee's quarterback. So Tennessee active on the transfer portal circuit in College football 27. I just wanted to let everybody know that. And I was lying 'cause Lenore Sellers didn't win at Camario Taylor won three straight Heisman. Anyway, so that's our five things. We're gonna go to your voicemails right now. 312, 685, 1889 is the number. 312, 685, 1889. We have a crack team of experts like Katie Stance, Luki Blutman, everybody that checks the voicemail line and gets me the best and the worst. So we've got a lot of stuff there that we can get to. Before I get to that, speaking of delicious food, I wasn't, but I will. Reese's, how about this product right here, huh? The Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Go get Reese's wherever you shop. They're the official candy partner of Barstall Sports. But I went to the movie theaters yesterday and I tried out a new technique. Large bucket of popcorn, thing of Reese's, bite of Reese's, throw the popcorn in. Bite of Reese's, throw the popcorn in. It'll change your life. Delightful, delightful, delightful snack. And you can do it wherever you go. Go to a gas station. Stop, get your roadtrip snack. Is there a better roadtrip snack than Reese's? I think not. I like the old school Peanut Butter Cups, but they of course have the PB and J. They have all sorts of varieties of candies. Check them out. Thank you to Reese's for sponsoring this podcast. Voice mails, 312, 685, 1889. Luke Blutman. Voice mail number one. That's a tweet. That's a tweet. - This was submitted by the brain trust of the Brandewalker College Football Show. They just wanted to get your eyes on this. - When did he tweet that? Listening to Josh Pate is like listening to a guided meditation about college football. Listening to Brandewalker is like being on the front rails at a music festival. Both are great experiences to completely different deliveries. No fucking shit. You herpes infested scumbag. Thank you for telling people. He has one way and I have another. I look forward to your text later, crying about your lot in life and asking me to help you. You piece of shit. And I will help you 'cause I like you. I think you're a good kid. But shut the fuck up also. But thank you. Thank you for watching and thank you for listening. But also go fuck yourself. And I think that is really the ultimate lesson here on the Brandewalker College Football Show. I thank you for listening. I appreciate you. Go fuck yourself. That's Liam. Did you snicker? - I have. - For the laugh. I'm also going to shoot a video of Smokes Tomorrow. - I just can't, may I? May I just throw an idea out there that just came to my mind? There was, you're gonna hate it. You're gonna hate it. You're gonna hate it and you're not gonna wanna do it. - What? - There was a TV series on VH1. I don't know what the name of it was, but like I named Mystery with Teach Guys, how to talk to girls. - Okay. - Nikki Smokes, taking you around Chicago and showing you how to talk to girls wouldn't be the worst thing I've ever seen. - Liam Plutman taking Smokes around Chicago and showing them how to respect the woman wouldn't be the worst thing either. Sorry, Smokes, that was mean. - Give Liam a point. - Give Liam a point, too. Wow, that was mean, that was mean. - It's fine, it's fine, it's fine. It's fine, it's fine, it reflects. It's alright, it reflects. - You're a good fella. - All right, voicemail number one. Yeah, I would just like to know resident of Iowa City Iowa, if you've forgiven us the Iowa fans for the incident, however many years ago, which was here faulted by the way and how do you think Iowa will do this season? I think Iowa will come out and antiquated offensive formations with behind five very big, good offensive lineman. They'll probably have two good tied ends. They'll have a running back who you might not even know his name, but he's going to be great. They'll have a quarterback who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Their fans will all turn and they'll wave to the sick kids in the hospital and then turn to the camera and say, "Did you see us wave with the kids? Did you see that? Hey, look at us. They'll do that. They'll have a defense that will knock your dick in the dirt. They'll win probably eight to nine football games and then they will do the same thing next year, where they score 13 points a game. It's Iowa football in perpetuity. Good, not great, hard to watch, hard to play against. That's Iowa football. Also, um, fuck you. I don't like you. Voice mail number two. Be one. It's Garrett. Yes, first time caller. Hey, real quick, wanted a question again. First, your coach is SEC. Summer All Silver Field, Goalish, which one will overperform, underperform, and meet expectations. With forwardier predictions, thank you. Summer All Silver Field, Goalish. All right, if I had to rank these guys in terms of how they will do this year, I would rank them Summer All Goalish Silver Field. Silver Field may, in fact, eventually do well at Arkansas. It's just not time yet. I don't think he's the dynamic force to change them in one year. This is not significant. He going to Indiana. This is a roster that needs a lot of help. This roster needs a lot of care. It's a fan base that needs to be nursed back to health after suffering through back to back 10 years of Chad Morris and then Sam Pittman, who they held on to ridiculously too long. So Arkansas got a lot of a climb to make in Silver Field. I don't know that he's the guy that's going to do it immediately. Goalish, I like a little bit more, but I don't like his roster as much as I like Florida's roster. Goalish brings the quarterback in Byron Brown. I know that's going to put you in a lot of games and the Auburn defense was good last year, but I don't know that they added enough in the transfer portal. When I think of Auburn, I think when they get desperate, they do whatever they got to do and get guys into Auburn. They know how to get dudes. They know how to go out and give recruits. I'm not sure. Goalish did that to the level. I'm used to Auburn doing it. Therefore, I don't have them breaking through to the level that maybe a Florida does this year. Florida has Jaden Bosch pretty good. They have a great receiver room. They have a good offensive line. We'll see about the quarterback defense is solid. We're bringing a lot of people back and the schedule is remarkably friendly. It's out of those three. Some are all his number one. Silver Field three. Goalish two. That's how you say it. I do notice that you didn't ask about all the new coaches in the SEC because Golding is a new coach and Lane Kiffin is a new coach. You just gave me those three. I guess the ones who were coming into the SEC for the first time, which is a fair question. Voice mail number three. Baby FW. I'm a check from Jackson. I am listening to your two pot now and I think it's time for you to get a nice voice mail. Let me ask you a genuine question. I watch a lot of old games on YouTube kind of how it passed the time until this thing finally kicks off. I wanted to know if you do that and what are some of your favorite games that you've watched in full on YouTube? Oh, I do that all the time. It was nice. I want to be nice. He was nice. I'm going to be nice. Chuck, I do watch old games on YouTube all the time, but I do it across sports. In the summer, I watch a lot of old WGN Cubs baseball games with Harry Carrier. I watch a lot of NBA playoff games. I watch a lot of 90s NBA playoff games. I watch a lot of Michael Jordan games. But when college football, when it turns to August, I do switch to college football. Of course, I'll watch some Mississippi State games on the Mississippi State fan, but you know, you can't go wrong with like the Rose Bowl. I think that's the USC. I think the Bush Bush game is on YouTube. I think the USC Texas Rose Bowl is on there. I believe the boys you stay at your Oklahoma game is on there. And then there's a couple. I know one one is like a guilty pleasure. Alabama 34 Miami 13 from 1992. That was back when I was still kind of flirting with being an Alabama fan because my parents or my mom was a Bama fan and my grandmother was a Bama fan. So when they beat Miami 34 13 in the sugar bowl, I was going back and watched that one. Got some great plays in there. More, more, more, more. I think the Colorado Michigan game with Cordell Stewart is on YouTube and you could just skip to the fourth quarter because that's an amazing game. I think the Doug Flutey 48 45 win over Miami with a Hail Mary is on there. So there's a lot. There's a lot of a lot of great YouTube. Of course, college football has a lot of great compilations too. So I watched a lot of top 100 plays of the last decade and you can just put that on. It's like an hour long and that'll just get you going, man. That'll get you going very, very, very well. That was fun. That was a good question. I appreciate you, Chuck. You didn't have to add that stupid ass nursery rhyme that you bet you say, but whatever you said, you said hobby lobby. So fine. Voice mail number four. Hey, Brandon. It's right here from Fort Wall and Beach Florida. I'm going through and I keep seeing people pick LSU. It's kind of like a dark horse national championship team. I find that really hard to believe, especially when people, listening to people say Alabama has no chance. I don't think either have a chance. I'd have to be surprised in the midst of the final four. But if you look at Alabama, I think they have the better coach. I think they have a better defense. There's a lot of moving parts and questions on their offensive side of the ball. But the love for LSU is like, oh, it all breaks right for Lane Kiss and when has it all broken right for Lane Kiss and you usually does something to mess it up before it gets there. And then also you want to talk about a coach that hasn't won the big one. That's the name. So listen, and I'm really glad if you bring the show back. Look forward to hearing your answer this. First of all, Ray from Fort Walton Beach, Florida. I lived in Fort Walton Beach. I lived in Shalimar from 2012 to 14. I was the sports editor of the Northwest Florida Daily News where I covered Fort Walton Beach Vikings, Shocked a Hatchy Indians, Niceville Eagles, Navarre Raiders, Crestview Bulldogs, Freeport Bulldogs, Baker Gators. Who else did I cover? I'm missing one. I'm missing an obvious one this right there in the coverage area of South Walton Seahawks. So I covered all those teams and Fort Walton Beach and my journey up the ladder as I finally broke through in 2019 to get this show. Fort Walton Beach was my favorite place I ever lived and there's a world where I never leave there and I'm happy to this day. So Fort Walton Beach, Florida, one of my favorite places in America, Shout out to Oklahoma County. That being said, you asked about why is LSU considered our course in Alabama's not? I do think LSU and Alabama are both considered, you know, outside the top 10 contenders for the national title. You said something I vehemently disagree with but I'm not going to get mad at it. I'm not going to be a jackass about. You said, you believe Katelyn DeBore to be a better coaching lane. Kevin, I don't believe that at all. I believe Lane Kevin to be a much better coaching lane than Katelyn DeBore. I know Katelyn DeBore has played for a national title but things broke his way a couple of years ago. He did it at Washington, not a lot of resistance in the regular season when he finally gets there. You know, they went to the national title game but TCU played in the national title game. That doesn't make them better than anybody else. The schedule can break where you get there. Lane Kiffin hasn't gone there but maybe it would have last year for you to stay. I think Lane Kiffin's a top five or seven coach in College Football. I think Katelyn DeBore is probably like a top 15 to 20 coach in College Football. I don't like the, you know, when Lane got to LSU, the attitude changed, the trajectory changed. You immediately saw they bought in, they're getting guys and Alabama, the attitude change is bad. You go from the Sabin. We're going to knock your dick in the dirt. We're going to choke you out to Katelyn DeBore. We're going to run around you and then we're going to pick you out like it's just I don't like the mentality that Alabama Football changed that I see and I like what Lane Kiffin's doing at LSU. So I would put Lane in LSU ahead of Katelyn DeBore but you're right. Alabama does have a better defense in LSU this year coming in on paper and Alabama does have Ryan Williams and Alabama does have certain things on paper that are good. So I'm not going to fight you for it but I like LSU and I like Lane Kiffin a little bit more than Katelyn DeBore and Alabama. That's a good question and you gave me that energy. I gave you back the same energy. Voice mail number four or five. I lost track. Hey Brandon, take some of your work and also appreciate you being such a huge hour's women everywhere. So I hear about three football teams. Texas Tech, LSU and two lanes. If you could marry, fuck, and kill each of these teams for this upcoming season. What would it be? I'll hang up and listen. Okay, Texas Tech, LSU and two lanes. Okay, marry, fuck, kill. Okay. All right, let's see, let's see. I would probably, I probably have to fuck LSU because, you know, Lane Kiffin's a coach and I got blonde hair. I would marry, I think I would marry Texas Tech because anytime you can marry into money, you got to do it. Like they got money. Like I'm coming in. I'm a trophy wife, I just live out there in West Texas, I sit by the pool all day, I drink my margaritas, I get drunk and then my old barren husband comes home and I'm like, where are you been? And he's like, well, I've been in the field to make a little bunch of money and I said, well, sometimes you've got to come home and be in these fields and make some money. So I would be married to Texas Tech and then I would, unfortunately I have to kill, I have to kill Tulane. I won't kill Tulane, but that's what I'm gonna have to do. So, I think that's a good answer, Liam, did you like my answer? I'm gonna text you something off air 'cause I don't wanna say it on air. Okay, text to me off air, that's good podcasting. I think that's very, very good use of company resources. When are you going to text me this thing that you say that you're gonna text me? Okay, just waiting. I mean, what, what is that? What would you do that for? - Wait, you did to me! - No, I didn't do it, do you, what did I do it to you? - Just now. - When? - You just did it now when you killed that sc-- - Next, next call, next call. - You're not in charge, next call. - Hey Brandon, this is Tall from Chicago, Illinois. Went to Indiana University, my question is, do you think Josh Hoover needs to have a Mendoza like season, like husband like season for Indiana to climb the mountain top again? - 100% no, I do not believe that. I don't think you have to be as good as Mendoza was last year for Indiana to be national champs again. I think that defense, especially with the additions they've had over the last couple of days, that defense is going to be nasty and that's the dirty secret about Indiana last year. I don't think Fernando Mendoza won him that national title. I think the defense won it. You know, when they get to the big 10 championship game, Mendoza was fine, but that defense is what kept Ohio State out of the end zone. Well, that defense is what kept Alabama out of the end zone. That defense is what pretty much led them to the title. So following that, can Josh Hoover be 80% as good as Fernando Mendoza? And when a national title, I think so. I think he can. So no, I don't think you have to have the number one overall pick. Heisman Trophy went in for Indiana to repeat as national champs. Thoughts Liam. - Yep, this is the glaze, 100% correct, Brandon, good job. - Well, you can disagree sometimes. - I know, but I have to disagree when I disagree. I can't disagree when I agree. - Well, do you want to go first next time? - No. - Yeah. - You're the calls guy. - Yeah, no, I don't know where you make your money. - Yeah, sure. Are you wearing a central Michigan polo? - Yeah, shout out Coach Trinco. - Fire up chips. Are you going to get us more free stuff? - Yo, if you are listening to the brand walker college football show right now and you work for a college football team, whether it be FBS or FCS. Give me a call, give me a text, the DM. Let's get Brandon and blood some gear. Maybe another little mini helmet for his great set. All right, here we go, voicemail number five. - Brandon, Ryan Taylor, Boston area, FCS, college football fan and Harvard Crimson fan to be my back of my last message to Sunk. So I just wanted to re-ass get again. Yale is the highest ranked Ivy team in the FCS. I believe they're somewhere 16 to 18 in the rankings. They have a new coach with Tony Reno stepping down. Do you believe that Yale, which should keep it silent because it's Yale, will perform well in the FCS and stay ranked or will a Harvard, a Dartmouth, a Princeton or maybe even a Penn this year. Come up and take that crown. Thanks, can't wait to listen to the new show, everybody. - Thank you, man. And I appreciate that and I appreciate the question. And you obviously asked me about Yale and the Ivy League if they stay where they are. Of course, here's what I know about Yale, about Tony, Reno stepping down and my thought is, will they keep the talent because they're Yale or will it be like a dark horse, like a Dartmouth or Brown, somebody like that? I'm gonna, oh, sorry, I'm getting a phone call. - Liam, could you answer this FCS question real quick? - You got thing maybe it could be a Penn this year. - Hello? - Yeah, I think you're kind of tripping if you think the Ivy League's gonna go all the way till five. It's just not gonna happen. What do you want me to say, man? - Give me your top three FCS teams right now. - Harvard losing their core rack of TCS is a bad deal. Top three FCS teams, I'll top my dome, South Coast State, Montana State. - I don't want to say Illinois State. - Give me three more. - UC Davis, I know the Coda. - Okay, oh no, you do see UC Davis being good. That's voicemail, that's one of the schools we got coming, Brent. voicemail number six. - Brandon, gender, New York. I just wanna know what sophomore quarterbacks you think he's gonna have a better year. Commario Taylor or Bryce Underwood. I'm a Michigan fan, you share all over this guy. You were a man, you put some real stakes on it. You make a bet live on your show for your fans. - Yeah, here's the bet. If I win, you suck my dick. If I lose, you kiss my ass. Shut up. So here's the bet. I believe Commario Taylor will be better because he is better. voicemail number seven. - Hi, what's up, dark? I'm taking a poop, kind of struggling a little bit. I think I'm a little bit constipated. But my question is, do you think the FSU guy has to eat the poop for us to start winning? - No, shut up, I'm so tired. That was, shut up. That was, you have to get this off. That's all I got for you right now, dark. - Get this off, get it off, Loki, shit. That was the stupid call. And can we leave the FSU guy eating poop in 2025? We'll have our new stuff, our new memes very, very soon. I'm just sick of hearing about that motherfucker, like whatever, he just next. How many voicemails you got left, Loki? - Four, no, three, three. - Well, let's just do 'em all, give me the first one. Brandon, what and how will Miami ultimately screw up the ACC Championship this year and go on to continue to never have won it? Looking forward to your answer. - I honestly don't think it's possible this year. It took everything last year to screw it up and not win it, they were clearly the best team. It took a lot of couple of years ago, but I just don't think it's possible this year. Louisville Solid, SMU Solid. They're gonna a whole lot much else in that conference. I guess Virginia is interesting. NC State's kind of interesting. There's some decent little teams. I like James Franklin, but Miami, as far as talent, is further ahead of their conference than even Texas Tech is ahead of theirs. And I think last year, Texas Tech was the furthest ahead of their conference of anybody. So I would, I would, I just don't think it's possible for Miami not to win the ACC this year. So that means go to draftings and pick out some team that you like in the ACC because Miami certainly won't win it 'cause I just said that. Voice mail, second to the last voice mail, go. - Hey Brandon, I just wanted to say as a Mississippi State fan, I'm super excited for the season. Maybe don't get anywhere near the back of the end zone for the Texas game. Seattle Austin come Halloween time. Thanks, thanks for that ask. - The last voice mail, please. - The last voice mail. - I just made a Macintosh for my boyfriend. That was Daniel Macintosh. Sorry, I was shooting with my mouth and talking and I know I was being gross, but. And he was like unappreciative. Like, - No. - He was so unappreciative. - He was the cheese, the sauce, by hand. Okay. - All right. - And I cooked the pasta. - It's in it, it's fantastic, yeah. - And he comes in and he's asking like, it's nothing. Not special, not, you know, not appreciative, not like a thank you. - It's very good. I hope you put this on the show tomorrow. - Please don't. - Please don't. - Okay, but they for let me read. I appreciate it. All right, just for my cats and my bags. Okay, bye-bye. - Loki, do me a favor. Do me a favor. Put a nine a.m. meeting on the schedule for tomorrow. I want Katie Stats there. I want you there, whoever in the team and the brain trust is responsible for picking out voicemails. Show your fucking ass up to the meeting tomorrow because if I had to hear that shit any longer, I was going, the show was about to end after two episodes. That is the worst performance of anybody in the history podcasting that you chose those voicemails that you listen to that woman talk own and own and own about her stupid ass mac and cheese and her stupid ass boyfriend in the background you're like this will be funny this will be good uh. you've got bad judgment she's got bad judgment as far as her and her boyfriend go i think they both can do in the history of the new iteration of the print and Walker college football show I have not listened to the entirety of the first episode yet it's very long very very long I don't know if you're planning to go two and a half hours for every show but I guess I'm okay being behind Josh Pate in the packing order of how things go yeah I mean I that makes you like the number three college white sport in the in the world him being a strong second if if he's McDonald's in your burger king am I like Taco Bell like what am I or am I like Colvers and I mean it's you know kind of a Midwest specialty doesn't know anything outside of his own region yeah yeah I mean butter burgers are fantastic shout out shout out covers I was going to give you like crystal or white castle you know one of those but you know whatever you get didn't take Colvers if you don't take Colvers give me Colvers I do want to I do want to start the first question by making fun of me but also I use it to frame a question okay last year we did sit we we did sit together on the part of my take couch now what ends up happening is I get egg all over my face because you officially win the playoff race thing that we had but what what actually happened was last year's prediction market was an absolute and total bloodbath it was a bloodbath for everybody I believe you and I sat down we both picked 12 teams to make the playoff and neither of us picked the eventual national champion that means 24 teams really 22 power five teams came off the board and not one of us said how about that Kurt Signetti in Indiana but you ended up having more I don't remember who you had I think the only one I got in was Miami but but yeah you ended up winning it but last year Tom was the craziest prediction year I can ever remember if you're seeing a bunch of top 10 quarterbacks list for 2026 if you go back a year the top 10 quarterbacks list for everybody you me everybody had guys like Garrett Nuss Meyer bad bad final season drew out of our bad final season K love man okay well that's fine Kate is not on mine. Sorry they weren't Lenore sellers yes bad DJ lagway yes didn't paid have lagway one paid to have lagway one but the general point I'm making is every a lot of what we thought was going to happen last year just fell apart including the top 10 quarterbacks list and I don't know who years was I didn't look it up but I just figured you had a lot of the same guys that everybody else had do you think that is the norm going forward or do you think maybe that's an outlier where everything we thought would happen last year not everything because a lot of people were on Indiana a lot of people were on some of the teams I don't want to drag everybody down in the mud with us but with the quarterbacks it felt pretty universal that we all whipped on a lot of guys do you think that's something that can happen again or do you think that's a one off you know I think we're probably somewhere in between I think last year is mostly a one off because I I think the sport is kind of caught in that spot where we're all still somewhat stuck in the college football we knew growing up the college football we've spent our entire lives dealing with that has changed drastically in the last three years and I don't think that we have fully adapted to what the reality of the situation is yet. So the likely outcome is we're not going to be as good at predicting the champion anymore or who the best players are going to be like it was far easier five six years ago to know I'll bam they're going to be good. They're probably going to do this. But it's it's it's still going to I'm assuming whittled down to a certain set of teams every year where it's like instead of going in thinking one of these two teams is going to win a national title or one of these two quarterbacks is going to win the highest men it's going to be one of these 10. So it's probably going to be a situation where it's kind of a blend of the two, but it's not going to be quite the bloodbath that it was last year, because again, in our offense, a powerhouse performance bias, both on that couch only get, you know, neither of us picking Indiana, but not just the prediction markets being wonky. It's like those guys wouldn't let us have notes. They wouldn't even let us see the board as we were picking teams. Like I didn't remember who I'd picked or you'd pick. Like it wasn't until I was driving home stuck in traffic on the Kennedy word dawned on me that I fucking took Nebraska and Indiana was on the board. Yeah, they're bad guys. They're they're bad guys at PMT. And you know, it is what it is, but you know, you just said something there that's interesting to me. You said we're kind of stuck in the middle and we're stuck in the ways of college football as it was forever. I'm still I see people. This is a phrase that probably needs to go away. Returning starters, right? Returning starters like let's say a team. I'm just going to pick a team that this isn't their actual number. I'm just going to say a team. Michigan state has nine returning starters on defense and seven on offense. They're loaded. Well, with the transfer portal, a lot of teams have guys who started last year. They're just not technically returning starters. Like Texas doesn't have two returning starters at receiver, but they do have Cam Coleman coming in. Like, like, so, so you can look at the returning starters number and say a team. This team's going to be loaded because they've got 19 returning starters. That's a nut. That's a thing that has to just die. That doesn't matter anymore at all. In fact, a lot of people tell me Florida's going to be good. I say, why would they bring back the whole defense? Well, defense wasn't very good. Defense was just like average. I think returning starters is a phrase and maybe we just go through the whole sport time and just start killing a bunch of phrases. But that's one we got to start with. Maybe not me and you because we're not smart enough. You might be. Now, I'm far too lazy, but but what we should do is instead of doing returning starters, we should do like snaps, career snaps. Like whether [BLANK_AUDIO] dude was on the team last year or not. If he's played like two years and has played 1200 snaps, that means far more to me than did he start for this team last year. And I think you're probably going to see far more correlation between that going forward. And I would like, yeah, probably let a nerd try to figure out which snaps have more weight. Like, you know, you can figure out ways to say, well, he had 50 snaps at Ohio State, which are better than 200 snaps at Jacksonville State. I'm not going to try to figure that out of myself way too lazy, not smart enough to do it. But hopefully somebody out there will come up with it. So that way they can publish it. We can like bookmark it and cite it and pretend worse mark. You're a, you're a, you're a big 10 guy. The big 10 is better than the SEC right now. It's, it's way better at the top. I don't know if I go at the top at the top at the top, three straight national champs. And then you got to work and sitting on deck. It's just right now the SEC's got to figure out what, what to do. And, and you know, if you want to argue 10 through 18 of a conference, fine. Who the fuck wants to argue 10 through 18 of anything. Good point. It wants to argue the back half of anything. Oh, our, our 13th best team is tougher. Yay for you. This sports about, you know, winning a national championships and the SEC for 20 years dominating that aspect. And they have it one one for three years. Um, you're in a, I like, you've got a little bit of me in you. And then that's not sexual. You got a little, you got a little bit of me in you and the fact that you, you have no problem with people knowing that you're an Illinois fan. You have no problem with people knowing that you're a big 10 homer. Um, does it matter to you that the big 10s on top right now? Does it, does it affect your, your work? I have, I have a minor contention with what you just said. I do not care that anybody knows that I'm an Illinois fan. I'm proud to be an Illinois fan. That's what I'm saying. I think so many media guys hide who they really are. And you don't, I fight back on the fact I'm a big 10 homer. Okay. I hate most big 10 programs. Like as far as being an Illinois guy, it's, I mean, I will say growing up, it's far more basketball related. My hatred for other schools. But as I've gotten into this job, I've had to learn that, you know what, I can't just be an asshole to Wisconsin. You know, it's like I have to kind of look at it more objectively. And I think I do a decent job. I think over the years, it's just, I defended the big 10 when it was getting dunked on repeatedly. Many times, you know, deservedly so. But by pushing back against a lot of the narratives that get, you know, the SEC was pushing, which then gets you labeled as a big 10 homer. But I do the same for any league. I do it for the big 12. I do it for the ACC. And now when people are kind of crap and all over the SEC, I tend to push back a little bit on that and say, well, hey, listen, you know, big 10s better at the top. I don't know if it's necessarily better overall. I still think if you look at power ratings and you added it all up, the SEC is the tougher league. But to your point, when we're arguing the back half of the league, we're kind of lost in the sauce. But we're in lockstep there. We're in lockstep in the sense that I have a Southern voice. And my team is in the SEC. So forever, no matter what I say online, you're just SEC homer, you're just this, you're just that. And it doesn't matter. I've hated it on the Alabama's little world forever. I've hated it on like I, I look at the sport objectively. And right now, objectively, when you have three straight national champs from the same conference has three different teams, that is the sign of a collective group of teams doing something right and pushing each other to in the right way. And now, and again, Oregon's just sitting right there on deck. I think they've got the best team on paper this year of anybody. And the SEC is a league and a collective that for 20 years have felt very good about telling you that they are on top of the sport. And they were right. But when you do that and your time comes to an end, you got to be ready to catch it. And I don't know how good the SEC is going to be about catching it. But we'll see. We'll see. That's so great to start the kind of, you know, they're not handling it all that well. I feel like there's some like weird midlife crises going on. Well, it's in version of the SEC media. Yeah. Yeah. Don't get me started on that. And vice versa, Kurt Signetti got up there last week and lied and said, you know, up in their big 10, we take it on the Jan if we, when we lose, we, we take it like a man away. No, you don't. I've seen Ohio State lose. I've seen Michigan lose. I've seen all these things. Like winning doesn't change. If it, if winning goes from the SEC and now resides in the big 10, winning doesn't change. Just the address changes. Losing doesn't change. The losers still act like the losers. The winners still like the winners. So anyway, we can sucks. Nobody wants to lose it. Would you do lose? It's like you kind of lash out because it's not fun to be on that end. Trust and we, we, we should know better than anybody. We're Mississippi State and Illinois fans. We're not exactly, you know, covered in glory. Now that's right. Although we did beat you the only time we played with a dead man coach. So real quick, 20 seconds. Nobody else cares. At least the black hawks will be exciting this year, right? I hope so. I'm just super pumped that Patrick can his back. I feel like it was important to get a top six kind of forward to put with the dark. Obviously the shoulder injury sucks. I don't know if they're going to make the playoffs, but they should be far more entertaining than that. It's just it's just nice to have a dude in the building again. But art can't be the only dude in the building. And, and, and you're waiting on these other guys to become young dudes, but they, they need somebody else around. Anyway, that's 20 seconds. Speaking of winners, speaking of the big 10, I saw the coaches poll yesterday, which, you know, print the coaches poll out, wipe your ass with it, done matter. But Ohio State was number one, yada yada, look like Indiana. I don't even know what I'll tell my over there. Four. They finally say five. I think do you subscribe to the theory? Somebody like Indiana should be number one until their beaten or do you subscribe to the theory new season and new number one? I subscribe to the theory that it's a new season. And you should, I like my biggest problem with polls preseason during the season after the season is when people refuse to like reassess their prior opinions on anybody. Like we just because you think a team's going to be good at the start of the season. And then they lose a couple games and you still kind of claimed it's like, well, I still think, you know, I don't, I don't want to admit I was wrong. And I feel like you get a lot of that. If, you know, Indiana should be number one, just because they won the national title last year. It's like, Hey, last year was last year. This is a brand new season. And I don't think they're the best team in the country this year. I think they have a chance to be the best team in the country. But right now, if you're asking me if I was going to put like you mentioned Oregon, I would put Oregon ahead of them. I would put Ohio State ahead of them. I'd have Texas ahead of them. It's just, you know, you don't typically see teams lose the number one pick quarter back. And we know at the first pick in the draft and get better. Yeah. You usually take a small step back. You usually don't see teams go undefeated and get better because they can't. You're usually going to come back to the pack a little bit. It doesn't mean the floor is going to fall off. And I think Josh Hoover's still going to be very good for him. I think they're still going to be clearly one of the better teams in the big 10. But it's really damn hard to win an national title, man. Like nobody repeats. And now in a 12 team era, it's probably far less likely than it has been in the past. And it has not been something that happens frequently. So it is interesting. I'm surprised they started at six. But the funniest thing to me about the coaches poll is that they got 14 first place votes, which is the second most of any of the teams that got them. And they finished six. So I need to see which coach was out here putting them at like 25 or just not ranking them at all. Oh, you know, somebody like Kirby Smart or somebody like, you know, somebody in the southeastern conference was just like, Oh, yeah, you think we're losers, huh? Well, watch this. I'm going to vote you 19 like that, buddy. I got a shout out. You guys right now. So shout out to cover three podcasts. You guys do great. You and you and Chef and Bob and Donnie all do fantastic, fantastic work over there. Thank you. Thank you. So if you don't know who Tom is, you do know, I know you know who Tom is, but shout out to their podcast. They do incredible stuff. There. I did that. Thank you. I appreciate it. Bob and Donnie will really appreciate it more than yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if she'll like it. Where are we at? Where are we at? No, I'm in my studio at home. I asked the first three questions. All right. Couple of let's get ready for the season here. I know you've been doing all the prep. You've got it. You were over big 10 media days kissing all the coaches answers like everybody else. Tell me a team in this country. This is a two part question. The first part is in the second part of the opposite of the first part, which team's not getting enough hype right now, which team is not getting the hype you think it might deserve, which team is not getting the love, the the preseason love. I got a couple that that come to my mind, but we look at the coaches poll. I see stuff like Texas A&M at eight. I'm like, yeah, it's a little high. I see. But who is who's the opposite of that coin? Hi, Roughnecks will be right back after this word from our sponsor. It's Fran from Chicks in the office. The weather is getting cooler and Abercrombie's fall drop has everything I need for the season. The best selling A&F Sloan Taylor pant is a closet staple for me. I'm always wearing it to work events. Happy hour. Anytime I want to be a bit more dressed up and the viral Dylan dress is easy, one and done perfection. But my fall uniform will always be denom pair with a Henley sweater, a broccoli top. It's comfortable effortless. It just never fails. Find your fall capsule at Abercrombie, shop in the app online and in stores. And now back to the episode. I would argue I know, I know which way you're leaning. I've heard your opinion. I listen, I don't disagree. Okay, Oklahoma. All right. So to me, I don't know if I consider, I know you consider them to be like one of the teams that won a national title. Yeah. I don't know if I would go that far. I do think that they are being kind of dismissed a bit too easily, especially in comparison to some of the other teams in that tier. Like if you look at national title odds at a sports book, there are quite a few teams that have far better odds to win a national title according to the sports books than Oklahoma does that I don't understand very well. You know, it's like I see old Mrs. Odds compared to Oklahoma's and I'm like, huh? Like old Miss lost, you know, lame Kiffin and he's a very. good coach. You don't just lose that guy and expect to continue being good with a first time head coach, mind you, who graded once and playoff games, but still he's never had to go through a whole off season. He's never had to go weak to weak playing a conference schedule when you want to play off game. He won one playoff game. Yeah. But I mean, it's like, I'm not sure. And then we're beaten too lame. It's so different. Oh, but like when you when you get into the ground of the SEC, but like when you get into that weekly grind and you've got teams scouting you every week and they're better prepared for you, it's so much different to be a head coach than it is in the playoff when teams have a week. They do prep for you. So I wonder about Oklahoma, but that said, here's a, here's a take I've been ruminating on. And I'm going to debut it on your show. I haven't even mentioned it on mine yet. Stop right there. Look, let's get the debuting take music. Please ready? The horn. All right. Drum roll. All right. Bring in the, the neck and strippers. Yes. Although if they're naked, they're not strippers. Here we go. New take from Tom Fortnelli is John Matier to Jack. Like you've seen the photos, right? Well, some of them are Photoshop, right? Some of them are some of them right now or something. I don't know. I mean, I've heard reports even for the photos. They're like, whoa, you should see Matering when he's come to camp this fall. So I saw some photos and I just, I don't know if I want my QBB in that pic. Like I know Tim Tibo was not exactly, you know, a tiny man. And he did pretty well. But it's just I'm not trying to get a bodybuilder quarterback. I need to do to control. And he looks like even you're that big. You're too tight. How is he supposed to unleash the throw down the same with that? He's got his pecs getting in the way. Well, Tom, I don't have the bandwidth to worry about Jack to John Matier because I got Jack back Prescott right over there in Dallas. I don't know if you've seen him. He's got the same thing. I think is the theory of these guys are tired of dealing with injuries. And they're like, you know what, injuries can't hurt me no more. Look at these things, but that kind of leads to more injuries sometimes. So I don't know. It's the reason I don't work out. I just don't want to get those injuries. I don't get nagging injuries. It's a great reason not to work out, but overall Oklahoma. I think that defense is still going to be really, really, really, really, really good. I think that offense is probably going to be fine. I do feel like Matier needs to grow as a passer to at least provide that threat that teams will have to respect when you play other elite teams. I think Oklahoma could get by against most teams on its schedule and be just fine. Well, I think that's you just kind of mentioned. But the reason that their odds are a little, you know, kind of stifled right now that they have to have coming in the number two overall schedule. Like their schedule is nasty. They got to get to Michigan. They got to go to a couple of places that I think they're going to handle. But as of right now, it looks like that is a problem. Now I would add the team, I think, and I looked at the coach's poll. They're not in the top 25. Louisville, to me, is somebody that looks really, really, really appealing down there in the ACC. I get the combination of really good coach, exciting quarterback with a list, a new lease on life who's getting an opportunity. He never got before a very friendly schedule that basically by September 19th, you're going to know you're going to know if they're a playoff team or not because they got Ole Miss, the start season, they got SMU at home in week three and not a whole lot else. So I like Louisville a lot as far as not getting enough hype. But on the other side, you look at the top 25 or you look at what's coming out of media days and everything. Who's getting too much hype? I am actually up in catching heat. We talked about like conference, you know, homerism and getting crap from fans about it. I'm catching a lot of heat from ACC fans those last couple days because when I don't know why Clemson's ranked. Like, have we not been paying attention to Clemson in the last five years? It's not been going in a very good direction. That's been going from, you know, we're running 14, 13 games a year to, we're 9 and 4, 9 and 4. Some weird ridiculous 10 and 4 season where they won the ACC because Miami screwed up. But when you saw them play outside the ACC, they got their skulls caved in, you know, by Georgia, by South Carolina. And then they went to the playoff game and they lost to Texas. I think that I did the stat. They played four ranked teams that year and they were outscored. They went one in three and got outscored by 45 points. They weren't exactly a competitive team. Then last year, they're seven and six. And, you know, as we talked about at the top of the interview, like there were the expectations for them coming in. They had the senior quarterback. They had all this experience. They had like an NFL defense. If you go look at the NFL draft at how many Clemson dudes were just taken in their last spring and then went seven and six. So you lose all that. You go to the portal a little, I guess, but you don't really go to the portal like a big boy would to try to fix your team. And then to fix your offense, you don't go after a quarterback that could help raise the floor and you bring back your offensive coordinator from like a decade ago. And Chad Morris trying to try and to rekindle the spark, I guess, of your bubble screens because you want to do that. I was on a failed, by the way. Yeah. And I just, I get the schedule's not super overly difficult. And I understand that in the ACC, there's just a ton of wiggle room behind Miami. And I agree with you. I think Louisville's a team that I would, I would have on my ballot before Clemson right now. Help Virginia's a team in the ACC that I would have on my ballot right now because they have pretty much all the same question Mark Clemson does, but they actually won 11 games last year. Yeah. So I feel a little bit more confident in that team at the moment. But yeah, I'd say that's the one that to me is very overrated. But I will say there's another team on there. And it hurts me a little bit. I am somewhat concerned about Iowa because if you think about it, there's so many good quarterbacks in the country that we know of right now. And if you look at the big 10 specifically, a lot of really good quarterbacks, a lot of known commodities. I was like the one team that we don't know who the quarterback is yet. And granted, it's Iowa. The quarterback has never really truly mattered in the grand scheme of what they do. They win games 13 to 10. But that's the problem. But last year, Mark Grinowski, not a great passing quarterback didn't really bring much of an element to it, but he was terrific with his legs. And where he really shined was in the red zone. If you look at Iowa's red zone offense last year, they finished 11th in the country and points per red zone trip. There's a nerd stat that I created that I think matters. But I looked back at the last 10, 15 years of Iowa football and that stat, the best they've been in the red zone by miles, by half a point per possession. And Grinowski was the reason why because his legs and his ability as a runner in the red zone really made them difficult to stop. He scored so many rushing touchdowns for them in the low red zone. And I don't know if the guys that are replacing him are capable of doing it. I do think Tim Lester, their new offensive coordinator has done a good job of modernizing that offense and bringing things to him that they just weren't embracing in recent years. But I think Grinowski and what he did is getting a little too easily overlooked. And if they regress even just a little bit in the red zone, they're going to go back to being that team that is not like a nine win team, but probably more of a seven win team. The two teams that I would look using the coaches pole as a barometer for what hype might be out there. I would say the two teams or both SEC teams, a and m at eight. I think it's crazy. I think they're replacing so much on the line of scrimmage on both sides. I just don't think the quarterbacks all that good. I think last year he really survived on a diet of some some bad defenses. And this year the schedule is tougher. And I don't think he's that good again. I mean, look at him against Miami. Miami was a lead defense, especially about time they played, but they couldn't they couldn't move the ball. They couldn't get the ball past line scrimmage. And I just don't think a and m. I think I'll cause the right guy a long term short term. I just don't see them surviving as a top 10 team this year, not living in the neighborhood they live in. And then why is Missouri ranked at 25? I will because that's that is the that is like the memorial 25th spot. Like Missouri is the team that just is at 25 in every pool of all. But I just like they over the drinks done fine, but they have a pattern. They will start 4-0. They will beat up on, you know, South Carolina Vanderbilt or whoever they play early in the season. They'll beat up on some teams. Then they'll play Alabama at home in the biggest game ever. And they'll lose and and then they they will they will end up at the season. They'll have played eight unranked teams and four ranked teams and they'll be eight and four. And that's just what they'll be except this year. You've got a quarterback who lasted three games as a starting quarterback at Ole Miss last year. I know he got hurt, but when he came back, they were like, but come on now. And he wasn't good when he was healthy to begin with. So I don't see him being the answer. The running back got shot like I he's the best running back in the country. He's the best running back in the country, but I just don't recommend getting shot ever by to to any player. Those are the two teams that that I think are are already there too much hype. We're going to play a little transfer quarterback either or are you ready for a little game I put together? Yes. You're goddamn right. You're ready. So here we go. I tried to match these guys up based on hype based on maybe team. So I tried to match these guys up as closely as possible. And the first one, which quarterback would you rather have in 2026? So which quarterback are you putting your money on? However, you want to answer this question. Lincoln Kindholz is a keen holds. Lincoln King holds. Excuse me. Lincoln King holds at Louisville or Kenny Minchi at Kentucky. Both guys who have spent time as a backup at a power power power program. Both guys who got replaced by other guys coming up the food chain and both guys who went to the state of Kentucky to get their opportunity. Both guys who also reportedly, depending on if you believe their coaches are not we're really making it close last year and quarterback battles with the guys who ended up winning the starting job. Yeah, coaches always tell the truth on that one. They do. I lean Minchi. Oh, I was expecting to go King holds. I, yeah, I think he and holds could be good night. He's working with Jeff Brahms. So there's plenty of reason to think he's going to be fine because Jeff Brahms typically doesn't have bad quarterbacks. But I saw, you know, like, what's the kids name? Mason Miller that he had from USC there last year. Wasn't exactly We lightened it up. That was the first time I think we saw a little uh. Yeah. Bill or Moss. There we go. I think there's a reliever for the pod race. He's very good. He comes into corn, this blind and his just strikes dudes out. And, uh, but with keen holes last year with with Moss at quarterback, we kind of started to see a chink in the armor of what Louis was doing. And now I will say their offensive line last year to me was not spectacular. And I think it should be better this year. I think they did a decent job addressing that in the portal. So I think keen holes will be fine. But man, like you look at what Will Stein has been able to do with quarterbacks. Yeah. Bohnix was just a meme. He started, you know, like, uh, this could be the year for Bohnix. And then he went to Oregon and holy crap. He actually was good. And we were able to get the best out of him. And then Dylan Gabriel comes in and they get the best out of him. Dante Moore, they're getting the best out of him. So Minchi being identified as Will Stein enough to where he didn't just want him, but he was willing to like steal him from Nebraska for all intents and purposes by over, you know, paying over what Nebraska was willing to give him to get him to get out of that commitment to come to Lexington saying, this is the guy I want to be my quarterback that I'm trying to, you know, build something here. That to me gives him the slight edge. I don't think, I don't think Yathers going to really outperform the other by a lot. Yeah. And I think Minchi probably has a more difficult schedule because he's playing in the SEC than the ACC. But I just think talent-wise, I lean Minchi. All right. Okay. I like that. I'm 50/50 on it. I think, but I think out of those two, one of, I don't even know if I'm ready to call it, but I think one of them's going to break through and be a really special quarterback. So I think that's a say bet with the kind of offensive coordinated, or the offensive minds we're talking about the talent and the offensive minds that they're about to deal with. This category is the veteran quarterback who followed his coach to his new destination category, which quarterback are you buying this year, Rocco Beck or Byron Brown? You know, I'm going Byron. I, I did this. I did like a blind QB resume comparison online a couple of weeks ago in response to the, the athletics tiers for college football quarterbacks. And like, because they had Drew Mestemaker as like the top tier, like in tier one with like the Dante Moors and the Archmannings and the Julian Sands. And listen, I understand that kid put up numbers at North Texas, but like it's, it's a different league that he's playing in now. But then I compared the stats because you know, North Texas played in the same league as Byron Brown did. In fact, they played each other last year. And Byron Brown played like non-conference games against Florida and Boise State and other decent and Miami. Byron Brown had better stats than Mestemaker did last year in pretty much every category. Yet Mestemaker is the dude we've anointed to be the great one because he's got, you know, the NFL prototype size. He's got the rocket arm. Stop saying his name because he's coming up. But when just becoming with like college quarterbacks, I like Byron Brown a lot. I don't think he's an NFL quarterback, but I think that for what Auburn does for that style of offense, he's a very good player. I think he's going to have a fantastic season. I mean, he's the reason I'm kind of high on the Tigers going this year because that defense was phenomenal last season, just the offense sucked ass. I think he's going to improve that offense and defense is still going pretty good. So Auburn's kind of like a sneaky dark horse to me. I'm kind of feeling that. So I got it back. My guy, Byron here. Yeah, I can see that, but my only concern with Auburn is when you get a new coach, and especially in the SEC, you usually get an influx of transfer portal talent. I feel like it's stronger than what Auburn's bringing in outside the quarterback position. I don't know that I was knocked, knocked over with their transfer portal acquisitions. And then compared to somebody like, we'll sign it Kentucky. If you look at like the talent and where they got their guys for the offensive line off, it blows you away. It blows you off the page. And Auburn outside of Byron Brown, nothing they brought in blows me off the page. All right. This category is guys who have been good in college, but probably a little over 80 because I'm not sure they were all that good. Maybe they were a little hyped up too much at their former destination. But now they're going to be the starting quarterback for a national title contender. That's the name of this category. Lukey typed that out. You repeat that. I might have missed four words. I will say it again. Guys who have been in college for a while and have been very good, but actually have, they've been that good. There may be a little overrated based on how they played so far, but they're now going to be the starting quarterback at a national title contender. Got it. It is Sam Levitt at LSU and Josh Hoover at Indiana. Oh, give me Hoover. You're in Hoover. No question about it. Just right to Hoover. No, I mean, I, I think the best thing Sam, in the comparison of players, the best thing Levitt has going for him is that Lane Kiffin will be his coach. So you expect he's going to be have a good season. I think Lane, you know, that's typical lane stuff. I just talent wise. I was so high on Josh Hoover going into last season because he was a freshman. He flashed so much, you know, ability and potential. You just had so many turnovers and then his sophomore season, he got rid of him. He took care of the football. He made much better decisions. And I was like, oh, this kid is going to blow up. He's going to have a huge season. But then he regressed right back into the turnover situation. And some of it was the personnel around him since offensive line. It was not great. But I also think he held on to the ball too long. But now he's in a situation where, you know, it's signety said when, when Dikes, you know, mentioned all the turnovers, signety says, well, he's got a run game and a defense now. And it's true. I mean, he does have a lot better personnel around him than he had while he was at TCU. And the offense, I think, very much fits what he does best. It's a lot of RPO kind of stuff. A lot of, you know, slants and that kind of pushing it down to the seam. I think that's where he fits. Like, I think Levitt's going to be fine. The question for me with Levitt is he's been perpetually banged up throughout his career, even, you know, even in the good year. It was all two years ago. Yeah. But I just, I am wondering like, there's so much pressure on that spot with Lane and the way he took the LSU job and the way we're talking about like LSU having like the 40 to whatever million dollar roster and how much levitt probably got to end up coming to LSU singing is how there was like a bidding war between Miami and LSU for his services. I just, I don't know if he's worth the price tag that he got compared to what Josh Hoover is for the price tag he got. Yeah. Uh, the next category is show me who's a better quarterback I guess. Is this Missouri related? Oh boy, is it? Oh yeah. Would you rather have Bo Pribula or Austin Simmons? We're getting deep now, boys. Jesus Christ. Can I ask a question before we even talk about this? You're the host. You're going to ask any questions you want? You shut your mouth when you talk to me, boy. Uh-huh. What? What? What? What did the whole country decide to shit on Bo Pribula? I thought he was pretty good at Missouri last year and then he kind of became like when I just said his name there, you laughed because I knew where it was going and I was just like, oh, yeah, I, I think Bo Pribula, the ceiling is low. The floor is pretty hot. Yeah. So that's a dog. He basically in a tiny house. He's like military quarters like on a ship. Yeah. You're, you're ducking to get into that front door. You like you and me, we're, we have to duck a little bit, but hey, it's a nice house. You know, we're not going to insult the man to his face, but I, I do believe that there's a higher floor. They're like Austin Simmons. I come back to the idea that as you mentioned earlier, like he began the season of starter at Ole Miss got banged up, lost the job. Trinidad Chameless comes in and the rest is history, but there's just a part of me that can't shake the idea of you were a highly touted recruit who was going to a program where Lane Kiffin was your coach and you couldn't really figure it out. It's made around you. Yeah. And maybe, you know, and if he never gets hurt, maybe he does figure it out and it's completely, this is a completely unfair criticism. But still I can't shake that kind of little nagging voice in the back of my head about that. So I'm going to go perbuella. It's Missouri fans are going to hear this in the shit themselves, but I do think Missouri's floor would be higher in all likelihood with perbuella this year, but maybe their ceiling's higher with Simmons if it clicks. Well, can I just say also, sneaky good little quarterback situation over there of Virginia. Like they're getting, they're getting some, they're getting some stuff out of their guys out when they get them over there. And Missouri has really been a running back factory over the last couple of years, but I'm not sure I'm impressed with the way they've handled the quarterbacks. Like they they haven't to me, they haven't just knocked me down with with with the quality of what they've been getting out of their quarterbacks in Virginia. Kind of a sneaky good spot. So I would go perbuella as well. And lastly, this category is called the almost scratch this category because Tom ruined it by talking about the guy beforehand. And I these two, I don't know that match up very well. But I do think if you, if you were to rank the top five hype guys, hype, hype transfer quarterbacks, these are two of them. It's true, Mastermaker. There's no way I already know because this is a pointless one. It's, it's true, Mastermaker against Darry and Mensa. Oh, Mensa. Yeah, without question. I mean, listen, I was criticizing Mastermaker earlier because of the way he was ranked in the athletics tiers, which I thought was preposterous. It's not because I don't think he's good. I do think he's a very good quarterback. It's just to me, Darry and Mensa has Heisman number one pick potential. I don't think that Mastermaker has that. And then also the cast around Darry and at Miami is significantly better than what Mastermaker's dealing with at Oklahoma State. It is routinely believed and is rightly believed the, whether you want to say Big Ten or XC's on top, those are two best conferences, right? Yeah. And those two conferences fight like neighbors and just, you know, whatever. Um, this year and this year alone, you okay, but you okay? You ever get like something in your eye? It just burns like hell. I get some of my eyes. all the time. Yeah. Yeah. I'm dealing with that right now. So I'm just I'm fighting through the pain right now. You got tears strolling down my cheeks. That's just how happy I am to be here. You need to take a 20. You need to take a little walk. No, no, no, I'm playing through it. Man, I mean, listen, I had a collapse lung that had three weeks ago and I missed two shows. All right, I could play through the pain. Sounds like you just brought up the eye so you could bring up the collapse lung and the fact that you didn't miss work. That's what it sounds like to me. No, I'm saying, I just because you know, this is a video podcast and I keep rubbing my eyes and I don't want people to be confused about what's happening. No, we did cocaine before the show. It's fine. I wasn't going to tell anybody, but you can. My question was a third best conference, ACC or Big 12. Oh, Big 12. You answered that very fast. I'd like to just go through this. Okay. Top of the conference, Texas Tech versus Miami. Give me Miami. Yeah. Second, PYU against, this is where BYU is Louisville, probably go BYU. Can you be why you? Thirdness. It does get tricky in these leagues. Utah or Arizona? I'd go, I'd go Utah now. I wouldn't be surprised if Utah takes a dip this year. Utah SMU, maybe. I'd say that's about a coin flip. And then Arizona Clemson. I don't look at it in like, you want to say Big 12 on the surface because maybe, maybe it's closer, maybe get more decent teams, but like when you, when you, when you put them side by side, I do think you run out of juice in the ACC way before you run out of juice in the Big 12. Yeah. And I think that's really where, like the bottom of the league is where things are different because, you know, Oklahoma State was the worst team in the Big 12 last year. We know they're going to be better just because of the coaching change and the roster change, but there will be somebody who sucks in that league. I don't know if there's going to be an Owen 12 team in that league, but still whether it's Kansas or Colorado or anybody, like I have more faith in them than I do the teams that will probably be at the bottom of the ACC. Yeah. You know, a team I like in the Big 12 sneaky and I haven't put it together yet. I haven't put out my take. I need the music debut. I've already said to take a couple of times Houston with Willie Fritz. I'm starting to think Houston might have a little something over there. And I, and I, I need to really, really, really dive into the roster and schedule to make sure I've got it all together before I take it out right now. It's like it's in the garage getting worked on, but once I get her out on the road, I think she's going to be a pretty good one. Love Willie. I've loved Willie since his Georgia Southern days, which is funny to me because Houston's playing at Georgia Southern this year kind of as an ode to where he came from, but I can't get I am not a Conner Wigman guy. And I have never been a Conner Wigman guy. So it was like, even as I was watching Houston win all those football games last year. And I'm most interested in Conner Wigman. I'm like, how the fuck is this team winning games of Conner Wigman in quarterback? What the fuck are we like me with Luke Altmeyer? Well, Starkville's Starkville's own. But I hadn't heard. How did he get out of that state, man? I swear to God, you know, he's from Starkville. He went to Ole Miss. I mean, wow, that's got to stab a little bit. That is out of the state. Anyway, back to Houston. The fact to Houston. The one other fact that I come back to is and it's not necessarily a bad thing. It's just they were six and one in one score games last year. And you tend to see teams that have that kind of record in one score games come back down a little bit. Yeah, but counterpoint. Counterpoint. What if they were ascending last year under Willie Fritz? And this year they just don't have as many one score games. They start blowing teams out always possible. It's always like, you know, lose big. That's what I do. Little win big. Yeah, that's what I would do. I'd be like, I had a lot of close games last year. This year, I'm going to beat him by more. So suck on that. It's a great plan. Loki, what's our time looking like? I know Tom was very, Tom told me he actually texted me in the words where Tom Fournell is a very busy man. It's true. And that's, you know, honestly, that is the only reason why I didn't come to the studio. It's gotten, it's, you know, it's, you know, where we live. It's not exactly the, the easiest commute. So I need it. Like, I'm sorry. I should have woke up before clock like me. And that's what I'm saying. So it's like, I had a lot of things planned. And, you know, you've got your, your, your producer texting me the other day, like on short notice, asking me if I could do the show, you can't even text me yourself. You've got your, your underlings doing it for you. I, can I be honest? So we do have a structure, a barstool. We have a very good, uh, we have a very good guest booker. Uh, but he, he's a sensitive little guy. And if we don't let him do his job, if we don't let him do it, he, he's like a puppy, you know, sometimes, yeah, you know, the thing, I can't keep going with that analogy. I was about to call, I was about to call him a sled dog. I was like, if you don't let a sled dog get out of the snow, he's not happy. So anyway, you got to let the boy mush. I got to tell him more. I wanted a lot of stuff to do today. So I couldn't really fit in like a three hours to come and do the interview in person. I want to do three coaches. And I want to ask you three questions about these three coaches, because I believe coming in the season, we've seen Kirby smart when it all before we've seen Ryan Day win it all before. But if we're talking about the top four or five teams that go in the national title, we're talking Texas with Steve Sarkies who's never won it. We're talking Notre Dame with Marcus Freeman who's never won it. We're talking Oregon with Dan landing who's never won it. So I think, I think we got a chance to maybe get a breakthrough guy here this year. And they fascinate me because cultural fans, like, breakthrough guys never happen. And they happen all the time. So here's the question Freeman Sark landing who gets their first top of the mountain. Three questions. That's the first one. That's tough. I and they're all loaded this year. They're all right there. I'm not going to pick Sark simply because I think he's got the most difficult path. Like, there's a realistic shot. Texas doesn't even get to the playoff. Yeah. I'm going to go Oregon. And it's for a very, very minor reason. I mean, A, I think they have the best roster, but Notre Dame is a far easier path. It's just what Oregon has that nobody else seems to have anymore. And I don't know if that they have will is quarterback depth. Yeah. Because if Dante more gets injured, they've got to do it. Who's been a starter for two years in the big 10 who was a five star recruit, who was, you know, one of the top quarterbacks in the country coming out of high school. If CJ Cargets injured, I'm sure Notre Dame's backup is talented, but he's not got the experience of dealing with it. So I feel like they're, they're not as injury proof as Oregon is. So I'm going to go Oregon. All right. Same three guys. Freeman, Sark, landing. We look back in 20 years. Who has more at the end of their career? Who has more national titles at the end of their career? You had to bet on one of those three to be the guy that has multiple. Or maybe just one in the other two don't win one. It's a great question by the way. It is a yeah. I'm going to go Freeman. Yeah. Because Notre Dame has the, you know, we just got to finish the top 12 when we're in. Yeah. Oregon's got plenty of advantages of its own. Don't keep me wrong. And so does Texas, but not as Texas, but they they have a more difficult path. And lastly, I think based on the way you've answered the first two questions, I can go and answer the last question for you. The first question was, of course, who gets there first? The question, second question was who gets there the most, meaning the third question, Tom, is who never gets there? And the way you answer it tells me that Sark is your only choice here. Yeah. Listen, there's, I don't, I don't think it gets discussed much. There's a real chance like Sark is fired after this year. Yeah. If you think of how much like this is a team that's got a ton of talent, it's very hyped. They have done everything that you need to do to put together a team to international title to win in the SEC. If this team with this schedule ends up missing the college football playoff and what this is Sark fifth season. Yeah. And you haven't really broken through, whereas yeah, you had that nice run a couple of years ago. Like it's Texas. They might make a move on them. I don't think it's likely, but I do think it's under discussed. I think his seed is hotter than most people realize. All right, Tom. Well, the producer gave me the time signal that Mr. Tom for Nellie's time is more valuable than both of us. So true. I believe you also just texted him get Tom for Nellie the fuck out of here. That was, I thought that was weird. But anyway, my last question is how blessed are you to be the second guest on the Brandon Walker college football show? My God, man. I listen, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not shining. Yeah. I'm honored that I was the second person you asked to be on the show. I'm trying to figure out who said no. Oh, buddy. How much time you got? All right. Uh, I'm sure I don't, we don't have this in stone. But I would guess me and Tom will find each other on the couch of PMT before the season starts. Seems like that's an annual tradition now. So, uh, I'm sure I'll see you then. But otherwise, I appreciate your time. Thank you. That's Tom for Nellie of the excellent cover three podcast with Chef Donnie and Bob.
