The treatment was somewhat effective at keeping people alive, although it didn't appear to slow transmission. In addition to the mass of disruptions found in North America and Western Europe, there was also significant upheaval in Africa, East Asia, and Latin America. Africa was particularly vulnerable due to its lack of health infrastructure.
