because it rules and so even though the summer hype meter ran through august and we both picked lanterns for the summer hype meter we are starting the fall hype meter on august 16th and running it through november 30th so that lanterns is eligible to be included again today what is time we have never once we've been doing the hype meters three to four times a year sometimes we skip a season we realize later we skip the season for half a decade now nearly half a decade never once matched the season with the actual calendar not once not once uh honorable mentions if we have time time permitting we're going to do some honorable mentions at the end we might have a special guest sharing yeah a couple hype picks we'll see again nobody knows when the game is going to start so i'm going to say right out rain delay permitting in real time any other rules that we need to refresh on so you can't have like slow horses for example on your hype meter today even though jackson lamb is a she saw me redoing it in real time just 20 minutes ago hype moves with the moment and that's another thing we should say the hype meter we always slightly disagree on this it's not about predicting what is going to be good it's about living in the moment of possibility until something is decidedly definitively bad and we can't pretend anymore that we're excited about it that's how the hype meter works i think i think i'm increasingly you're coming to your side of this fantastic all right i'll start my number 10 oh wait are there any kids here oh yeah no that's that will be yes something to ask but not until number nine uh and again at number five can you can you woo if you have a child you have children okay ed they're ready hello ed um okay family friendly event we'll we'll see how that part goes number 10 i have selected resident evil i also have resident evil number 10 at number 10 yeah amazing incredible we're so in sync it's almost like we spend 18 hours a week together it's a twofer for me okay what else do you have this is this is where my my stock in austin abrams is gonna pay off austin abrams who's the star of resident evil and also a film called whale fall hell yeah let's go yeah i texted my best friend this morning weird i don't recall getting a text from you about whale fall and resident evil that's odd because she read the book will fall and i said all right and i was like would we call that genre it's about a guy inside of a whale he's trying to get out of the whale and she said much like andy weir with project hail mary they tried to like make it scientifically plausible but it's still a guy surviving in a whale probably longer than someone would survive in a whale so i think that genre so um it's my austin abrams twofer at number 10 i love it um i thought you would be surprised that i selected this because this is an overt abject horror film and i can't handle horror i'm a coward and a baby but this movie that's my mom hi mom honestly took her longer than i thought to weigh in this movie resident evil comes out september 18th so this will be the first movie potentially that i see as a 40 year old and i've decided i can do it i can handle horror at that point in my life for the big four zero is when you get on board yeah with new horror i'm gonna pivot to horror and i just feel like i'm missing the zach crager moment because you haven't seen weapons not seen weapons okay and you haven't seen barbarians no i think you could handle weapons it's a lot of witch stuff it's really fun adam is giving me a barbarian absolutely not never not even in the brightest day no no um i'm not a fan of horror movies i'm not a fan of the resident evil games not that i dislike them just haven't played them don't really like the prior resident evil movies but i thought these trailers looked amazing wow shot fires and mila javovic 2026 apologies i'm so sorry okay number nine what do you have um okay this is where i'm putting godzilla minus zero november 6th fantastic i was counting on you to have this this was what resident evil knocked off my top 10 so it's my first honorable mention okay um this is most of the cast who here saw godzilla minus one I was late to this meeting. we talked about this at the beginning of the year with Rob and Sean. We were talking about the hype draft and I had yet to see Godzilla minus one, but I've since seen it. I've gone to church. It is incredible. I'm really excited for this movie. Mahoney took this in the fifth and final round of the house of our hype draft. I took Blade Runner 2099 right before that. Let's put a pin in that. We'll come back to that later. Discuss whether that was a wise decision. Okay, no children here. Like, are you sure? Also, do you have maybe a delicate disposition? They came to a house of our live show. The Rebecca Yarrow's 3.5 in the Empyrean series. Which, if you're a fan of the court books, you know that any kind of like, here's a novella to tide you over can go wrong, actually. Right? The fourth installment in the court books is not loved by all. But Threshing Day, here's the premise. This comes out September 29th. It is. Yeah, what's being Thresh? So, 13 stories about Threshing Day, about the Riders and their dragons. Great stuff. Will there be an opportunity to fill Threshing Day with sex scenes if it's about the Riders and their dragons? And how? I would say, before they get on the. After they get on the dragons. While they're on the dragons. Yeah. The dragons, of course, also share the mating bonds. While they're walking in the parapet. You know, like, any of those. I'm thrilled. The, on the court front, Splintered Harmony. So, the seventh book, which comes out just a few months after, in January. Court of Forgotten Melody. I love that. Interesting. I think it's a great title. These are part of a new trilogy inside of this universe called the Valkyrie Cycle. So, it's like, kind of a TBD reveal. How present will Reese and Farrah and our beloved faves be? I don't know. But I can't wait to find out. I miss those knee tats that Reese has. Always described in great detail in key moments. I just heard a sound I've never heard before from right around there. A sort of grunting acknowledgement of the tattoos. TBD if we cover those in real time this fall. But we will. We will, of course, check in during the V-Day Quickie next year. Yeah, absolutely. No matter what. But we have been trying to make some plans with perhaps another pick on your list. We sure have. We sure have. I should be more embarrassed by this than I am, but saw the trailer for this the other day in the theater, seeing Oak Street. And this very like female forward story about sisterhood. It's just about women and friendship. Yeah, and you were like. And empowerment. I was like, Lee Pace looks dynamite. You're like, what percentage of this movie is naked Lee Pace? The tattoos on the torso, just delightful. Great pick. So, you've been excited for this for some time. Yeah, I would say it has gone down my list based on some things I've heard, but it's still here. I'm still excited. They couldn't kick it out of the top ten. Nope. Still here. My number eight is season three of Percy Jackson. Similarly, they can't talk me out of being height. When he came out, Jomie, who wasn't even sitting next to me, he was like, he was like, Joanna, that's a grown man. That is a grown adult man. Playing a middle schooler. You know, season two did not generate the buzz maybe that season one did, but I had fun. And season three adapts Titan's Curse, which is my favorite Percy book. I think it's the best Percy book. So I'm very excited not only to see that tale adapted. Artemis is here. Kate McKinnon is here. It's Aphrodite. Incredible stuff. But most importantly of all, the D'Angelo's are here. Bianca's here. It's Sunrise on the Reaping. Oh, okay. Hunger Games. Nice. I actually really liked the last Hunger Games movies. I had a great time with it. I didn't see it. Yeah. And Francis Lawrence, who's the director, who also directed Long Walk. Did you guys see Long Walk? Incredible movie. And if you haven't seen it, you should know that they have, like, cast every single actor who was in that movie in, like, it's just this incredible farm team. Is that a thing we say? Not only is it a thing we say, it's a thing we say here. Great. At the ballpark. So I think. Paying attention to the young actors in Sunrise on the Reaping will do you good. November 20th. I mean, some people you've heard of. Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Kieran Culkin, Jesse Plemons, McKenna Grace. So this is the story of young Hamish Abernathy, Woody Harrelson's character. Wonderful. And I've heard that. I haven't read the book yet, but I've heard the book is really, really good. So I'm excited. I've heard that, too. I'm excited. I'll read the book. I'll catch up on the prior film. I love the Hunger Games. Yeah. I just haven't participated in this most recent. Wave of Hunger Games content. The prequels. Yeah. Maybe it's time. We don't have anything else going on. You love a prequel. I do. I'm a glutton. I don't love a prequel. I can't get enough. You might have my number seven higher on your list. Avatar? I don't. Sheesh. Well, Jomie, are you here? Are you excited? Seven Havens. No, I'm excited. I'm very excited. There's just certain things I knew were on your list that I left for you. You know me so well. October 9th. Paramount Plus. Look at that. This is apparently going to be a couple seasons, a couple books, 13 episodes each, and it's of course the newest show, the newest Avatar installment from the original creators, the OG squad, right? So that is very exciting. Looking forward to that. It's a sequel to both the original Avatar the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, which we love. Korra heads. It's Earthbender time. It is. It is. Avatar Pavi, who is a twin. So that's a great little concept. Like a non-Bender twin. Incredible stuff. I'm sure I'll have no issues with that. There's an apocalyptic event. Your twin brother is the Avatar. That has unfolded and the gang must save the Seven Havens. It's a great plot. More importantly, obviously, than the potential decimation of civilization, the new creatures. It's a cat monkey, and it appears to be big enough to ride. This is important. We, I think, consider Appa, Momo, Babu, you know, not only magical creatures and characters, but close personal friends, central figures in our lives. So I can't wait to meet the cat monkeys, voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, icon legend. This is very exciting. The guy and the man. What more do you need? I hope the show's good. I think it's going to be a killer. I'm really excited for it. It seems like it. Speaking of killers. Number six. What do you got? This is where I have play phase. Do you have it higher? I do have it higher. Okay. I do. Because I'm all in on horror. - Yeah. i love this i'm gonna be so scared and i'm never gonna sleep because i don't really sleep anymore anyway no so you might as well fill your time the nightmares can't get you if you're already awake something to think about uh number six is where i have blade runner 2099 i feel sure this is not on your list it's not you were not similarly compelled by the sunshine noir description at the san diego comic-con panel that we attended baffled i'm intrigued by the term sunshine noir what a contradiction i can't wait to find out what it means um did the trailer for blade runner 2099 look good did the san diego comic-con panel convince us that the show will be good maybe maybe not that's up to each person to decide for themselves so high for that squeaky little maybe here's the thing you blade runner is a sacred text in my home it is the original blade runner film is my husband's favorite movie it is very tepid is that more about people not liking blade runner or not like adam what do we think that's about not a very loud applause for adam adam how excited are you for blade runner 2099 oh god she's standing up you okay not impressed world's biggest blade runner fan not impressed by the trailer when we watched blade runner together for the first time and i was telling my dad about adam and i was like yeah you know we watch blade runner and he's like honey a man doesn't show you blade runner unless he's interested it was right it was right which which cut which cut director's cut only right always director's cut yeah it is blade runner 2049 bill new five rise wonderful movie so i'm excited about the prospect of a blade runner live action television show and a prestige tv show now this is releasing as a binge drop on thanksgiving which i consider to be incredibly distressing news and obviously just an ill omen i don't think there's any other way to interpret it but i remain excited until i can't be anymore blade runner 2099 that's the uh the point of the exercise yeah we're heading into the top five yes here's a question for you tell me am i allowed to have something on my list that i've already seen oh so you know it's good yeah why not great spoil all of it for us tell us everything that happens um i watched this because i moderated the panel at san diego comic-con it is hope a south korean film uh it's bananas it is absolutely bonkers it was such a fun watch though and it was so fun to watch it and then talk about it like primarily to talk about it with people who've seen it it's very confusing um it's you're like joanna describe the plot really hard to honestly aliens are here at least two of them are played by michael fassbender and alicia vikander so uh two of the hottest people alive but they're cgi so you can't even tell it's them see that seems like a critical error uh but uh it's incredible action it's like a slow boy like i'm really excited for everyone to see it so south korean film alien invasion adventure fantastic i love it comedy action comedy yeah a genre mashup yeah a blend yeah brew something for horse girls something for everyone yeah you know how to sell it they should get you involved with the marketing number five this is where i have wicker are we sure there are no children in here who knows what wicker is about who knows the premise of wicker okay wicker is for anyone who is not aware olivia coleman's fisher woman who apparently smells like fish and also maybe doesn't believe in the institution of marriage okay asks Peter Dinklage's basket weaver to make her a husband. Fashion me a man. And he weaves her Alexander Skarsgård as a wicker fuckbuffet. That is the plot of Wicker. I'm surprised it's not number one. Olivia Colman fucks a basket is. Yes. We have a lot of questions about like friction and. We got a lot of emails from listener based on our Wicked Part 2 discussion of the burlap situation on Fiero. They were like, we need you to go back into the texture mines to explore the wicker dick, I guess. I didn't like saying it. You were so upset that you had to just say that. It's great. on everlasting just as good as joe said it was wonderful and this short story collection is um both a printed home for some prior short stories that we've read and love and five i believe five new short stories so that's exciting four is where i have clay face you had this where lower lower clay face october 23rd another movie on october 23rd unbelievable this movie looks amazing because we thought okay maybe we would put akatar wicker together for like a horny thing or maybe wicker and clay face together for body horror or maybe all three of them together yeah you can do it all body horror man to see yeah i love it i'm in we love a smuggle we love a mashup yeah this is the third film in dcu's chapter one gods and monsters and look we're one for two so far superman ruled we you know we don't support stories of future women here on house of our so uh we did not podcast about supergirl um i think the clay face looks like it's going to be amazing this this movie looks great the tone and the vibe the trailer conveyed very specific very clear very assured can't wait for this your year of horror i love this mike flanagan this is my you you have long sung the praises of all mike flanagan creations wrote the script guess what i heard tell me rob mahoney was watching midnight mass on the plane ride to hawaii finally there you go number three we're in the top three yeah you know who've done incredible work box trolls my personal favorite but kubo there's a million great like a stop motion films why are you looking at me like that you're gonna love this movie i can't wait but the premise is about a young girl whose brother gets kidnapped stop me if you've heard this story before she has to follow her brother's her kidnapped brother younger brother into a mysterious land and other worlds and and fight to get him back sensational it's the plot of labyrinth uh a movie you will be seeing for the first time on monday monday night monday night friends of the fest american cinema tech los felix three if you're in los angeles please come because that screening is at 10 o'clock which is at this point in my life past my bedtime so come hang and help me stay awake i can't remember how we were talking about when they were like there's hail in rushville and we're like yeah hail doesn't really sound like alien yeah we got about a million emails from people saying hail in is the joke alien this is why we need all of you never felt smarter any feedback in those same emails on the whaling the alien bailey the alien conversation that we have apparently whaling is a whaling yutani uh reference so that's great to know secondly we got 50 suggestions for other names that rhyme with alien yeah so we'll read them on the pod i can't wait uh so what do you have a number we went to d23 which was a hellacious journey for us we did not have fun i won't be back this trip to baltimore has been a delight but there have been a few setbacks including the mosquitoes that have anaheim we live in los angeles to be clear tell us something about the traffic yeah uh that was a tough journey the vision quest trailer was so good and as i mentioned in our check-in on on our trip to d23 um that i have since watched that trailer like 20 times i'm really really excited and i just feel like it's for me it's for all of us but it's also for me so i love wandavision i love agatha and this is sort of the third in that trilogy i love paul bedney i'm really really excited famously you love ai this movie does appear to be about a bunch of ai constructs meeting in a mind palace but
