The 17 Players We Think Could Go No. 1 in the 2027 NFL Draft

How many players could reasonably be the number one overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft? That's today's show. 244 days until that NFL Draft match. Good? Good man, tuck roll the damn thing. A lot of people have a lot of different opinions. They're chiming in that aren't named Mick Shayer Mench. We've been talking about this off air so much that now all of a sudden, why continue this conversation off air when we can bring it on air. This year's class is different, man, at least it projects to be different at this point. There's a lot of excitement with the quarterbacks. There's a lot of excitement with wide receivers. There's a potential superstar generational cornerback. There's some damn good running backs. There's some edge rushers that belong in the conversation. So instead of having this conversation offline, let's bring it online. And today, it's all about finding out what number, almost like a court of law, right? Without a reasonable doubt, except today, we kind of reverse it. If there's a reasonable possibility, given the history of what that means, by the way, we're going to test the limits of what that means. I'm certain you are. You're the fun guy. You get the nice beer that one loves you. I'm the bomb thrower. It's a very full dead jam band. He's relatable. He's fun. And I'm kind of the prick of the show, and that's fine too. So I suspended belief in reality, whatever it is, it's not my favorite thing to do. But I'm here for it today. So I will play along, and we will have fun. But I have a feeling that you're going to push the limits a little bit further than I am. And that's fine too. Here's the whole thing. There's a bunch of quarterbacks. There's some edge rushers. Some wide receivers. There's a cornerback. Maybe a bunch of other guys. Maybe offensive tackles. We're going to go through, and we're going to just basically decide how reasonable is it to that this player could be the number one overall pick and what's shaping up to be an incredibly talented 2027 class. And I want to remind people of this, OK? Eight of the last 10 picks in the NFL drafted number one overall have been quarterbacks. The two other players that have been drafted non-quarterbacks have been edge gats, edge rushers, defensive events, whatever you call them. OK? That's important to note. Also important to note, really important to note, probably the most important note I'm going to give you for this show. And I have to keep reminding myself of this, so I can suspend reality a little bit. For Nando Mendoza, the number one overall pick in 2026, day two great. We were probably the highest of anyone out there on them coming into the year, and we had them kind of fringe one, OK? Right. I'm Warden 2025. Some scouts headed as low as fifth round grades, somewhere in the third. Nobody I talked to. We're like, yeah, lock first round or when you left Washington State from Miami, Caleb Williams, we knew, Jayden Daniels, though the number two overall pick was like a third rounder coming in, right? Trevon Walker, day two prospect, nice player, good, tough first to run. Georgia defensive lineman, did his job. Number one overall pick over Aiden Hutchinson back in 2022. Go back to Joe Burrow, he was good. He was good at LSU the one year after transferring from Ohio State. He was not number one overall pick until that 2019 season, that magical season, arguably the best team in college football history, OK? Kyler Murray was playing baseball, bro. That's another show, by the way, the best team in college history, but I'll give it to you. He was playing, he was like, I think the number nine overall pick in Major League baseball and the big question is he even going to play in the NFL. Baker Mayfield, nobody thought he was going to be the first overall pick until I'm sitting in a meeting in Herb Street, talking to maybe chefter or something and there's like, I'm hearing the Browns. Are you going to take him number one? So my point in telling you all of this and giving the history is what seems unreasonable today can very easily turn out to be what the reality is come that last weekend and April, OK? So here we are. Here's how it's going to work. Functionality was, you're going to pick a guy. I'm going to pick a pick a guy, right? We're going to give our argument for and I think the first few we can kind of, you know, motor through car wash it because I think everyone will agree that they're likely at this point to be a number one overall pick candidate. And then as the list goes on, I pick one, you pick one. We defend our pick and then the other person gets to rebut. And then we make a decision after every single one, is it, is it a reasonable possibility? Opposite of a jury, the murder case or any kind of case where it's reasonable doubt. This is, is it a reason, like, is there any reasonable possibility that this could happen? Yes or no? We'll collect the list. We'll hold onto it. We'll look at it later in the process. First player, I think is, if, I think some others might go in a different, different direction with a common name, I'm going to go Dante Moore. I don't think I need to sell this a whole lot. I want to remind people, Dante Moore, 62 and a half, 215 pounds has some mobility. His game is pure pocket passing. There's some areas he's got to improve upon. I want to see some big moments carrying the team. I want to see cutting down on some of the mistakes, whether it's that pick six against Indiana or it's the, or what I see on tape when like, when bottled up in the pocket, there's like pressure moment, is he able to kind of not have that quick panic set in where he's, he's has shown a tendency to make some mistakes, but my gosh, man. He delivers the ball on a cushion. Some guys make you work for it as a quarterback. We talked a lot about like Carson back, back at Georgia, like the receivers had to work for the football. These receivers are like, they're flying private. They're getting picked up in limousines. They're going to five star hotels like, you know, he is, he, and in the Raiders last year, I mean, way through their process from, from conversations we've had, like it was kind of, I don't want to say coin flip, but there was a strong discussion back and forth. If it's Mendoza and Dante Moore available in this draft, which way are we going and a decision was going to be a tough one, okay? So that, I think it makes it pretty easy to put Dante at the top of this list. Yeah, we're going to, I mean, we're going to need to be quicker with that clock talker on these first three. I mean, we're going to, let's, let's get through it here. Lenora Sellers, South Carolina, no explanation needed. No explanation needed. I mean, he just does things that other guys can't do. He's so powerful and strong in his ability by time of the pocket as a runner and I think he's a better pocket passer than people giving credit for. I think a lot of people realize he's in the running to be the first overall pick. There it is. That's all we need for this right now. Let's get it out. I agree with you and he's going to go in the yes category. So we have two off the bat that are yeses. But I also, I think, I think a lot of people, but you know, nationally would be surprised that it's not that Arches in the second, your choice for the second most likely to be number one pick. They'd be wrong, but I get it. Okay. My pick. Third pick. I'm actually, I'm going to go CJ Carr here. I think CJ Carr is set up for a lot of success this year. I think CJ Carr is overlooked. I do want to recognize he's just a red shirt sophomore. It's just his second season playing. So there's an opportunity to come back to Notre Dame the following season and we'll see how this year plays out. But you'd start to look at the schedule. You start to look at two first round running backs going to the NFL a year ago. Now the onus is going to be more on CJ Carr. Great defense. I think he's going to kind of elevate as the season progresses and he'll have opportunities for big moments later in the season. College football playoff. I think that's where he's going to go on this run. I think he might be the highest trophy winner. I think he could wind up being the number one overall pick. It's precision over the the middle. There's some things you can work up like layering the football repetitive motion, understanding of the game. I think he might be the best processor when this season is over. I think when we look all around at all these great quarterbacks, I think we say this guy's got a better feel and can process faster than anyone else. I won't be surprised at all. Of course, the number one overall pick when it's all said and done. Don't hate it. I'm with you so far. These are why these are the kind of the obvious guys so far, but if you don't, if you don't like me taking Manning at the second or McShade taking them at third, you're going to hate this one. I'm going to tear in Mensa for Miami. I mean, look, where do we begin with? this. He's quarterback of the seventh ranked team going into the nation. He's got one of the best wide receivers in the country and Malachi Tony. And we've seen this movie before. Didn't we just see a guy go from Washington state and Cam Ward and turn into the first overall pick at Miami? Now granted, I understand this. They are very different players. Cam Ward is more of a Houdini magician type player, where men says more of a processor, big accurate pocket passer. But I actually think his game translates to the NFL a little bit better than Cam Ward's did when he was coming out. Dairy Mensa do not sleep on him. I know he's a little undersized in terms of his weight, but he's got a good, accurate, great touch. The numbers last year, 34 touchdowns, six interceptions. I think he's going to have a monster year for Miami. And I think he's going to be in the mix to be the first guy, the first player off the board. I love Mensa. I'm not going to push back. Yeah. I know a lot of people want me to right now. And a lot of people are asking, well, I can't even take this seriously. I'm looking at other people's list. He's number one overall. He's the number one quarterback. He's where we are today. Yes, where we are today. And I think Mensa is going to thrive in that offense. I think Mensa is vastly underrated. So when I bet him on on fan duel right now, I'm not sure that I would, you know, hard earned money on that, but I, but I wouldn't rule it out. So so I'm giving you a yes. All right, I'll finally take archmaning with the fifth pick, I guess, right? Here's a deal with archman. I loved how he grabbed his coupons last year and just took this team over. I loved how he showed in moments that he overcame the rough start and that a lot of it was like too much on a young man, too fast expectations. I thought his eyes were a mess. I thought his feet were were following his eyes, which were also a mess. And the end result were a lot of off-target throws. Here's why he's not higher on our list, but I want to, I want to, but beat this over the head of people. Right now, it's our responsibility to talk about where he is in this process while also keeping an eye on where he can be. It will not surprise me in the least at six foot five, 232 pounds with that acceleration, that ability to make plays outside of the pocket and that understanding and instincts for the game of football that if he takes that next step this year, we're saying like how do we not have him ahead of Dante as the, as the first, but I am, I'm here for that path. But I also, I think it's important and I think it's our responsibility to share with people. He ain't there yet. I think Arch would tell you he ain't there yet. I think Cooper and Eli and Peyton would tell you he's not quite there yet. They see the same mistros that we see on tape. Arch sees the same mistros. So, it's been an off season of working to get healthy. Remember, he had the injury and now he's healthy, getting his weight right, getting it, getting back in, getting like working on his eyes with his feet so that the ball placement can be better. And if the ball placement takes a big step this year, all of a sudden he's absolutely in the conversation to be the number one overall pick. I truly believe that. I'm with you. I think that ends the, now it's going to get interesting. Okay. All of these ones so far, there's been no really pushback. I'm interested to see what you think of the name. I'm going to come with here and I struggled. There's two names here, but I'm going to go Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad-Chamblis. I have concerns about the frame, but that's where my concern's done with Trinidad-Chamblis. He's sub six foot. Is that going to be a guy that a team's going to be willing to take a chance on just under six feet, by the way? Maybe he goes to the combat when he's six feet. That's going to be, that's going to be one of these ridiculous measurements that we're keeping on like Will Campbell's arms. That's going to be something that people are going to keep an eye on. How big is he? Other than that, you want to talk about a great processor. I thought the way he developed at Ole Miss last year and his ability to read defenses, recognize coverage, recognize what pressure was coming from, make plays with his feet, extend, and again, just the confidence in that kid. I trust him in big moments. If he fails, it won't be because he doesn't have the mental toughness or the football intelligence, and that's a guy I would take a chance on. Yeah, Russell Wilson is in a perfect comp, but there's some Russell Wilson, like, yeah, all right, fine, he's five, eleven and a half, whatever he exactly is, extend. I think Russell Wilson was a little bit coming out of Wisconsin, played a little bit more high-level ball and C-State Wisconsin. I think he was a more consistent, efficient passer at the same point going into his last year at Wisconsin. I think Trinidad is maybe a little, although they're both dynamic, I don't know. I don't think it's a horrible comp either, is what I'm trying to say. I think there's shades of there and had he not been the first sub-six foot quarterback. Drew Brees was like 6-0-7 or something. You know what I mean? He'd not been Doug Flutey was across the picket line. He had to break the barrier. And so he went what, third round to the Seahawks. Third round, right. But if we, you know, looking back on it, obviously, he goes number one overall. Everyone's, yeah, cool. Yeah. Super bowl. Yeah. So what do you say? Yes or no? What do you got? I say, I say, yes. I say, yeah, I'm a champ. I'm a champ. I'm a champ. I'm a champ. Okay. Sorry. I should have started with that. I'm with you. We got more sellers car, arch, chamois, menza, all off the board, if you will, right? Yes. I don't think it's going to be a big surprise to you, but I'm going, I'm going with Sam Levitt. Before I even get into any other positions. I'm going with Sam Levitt because this guy's flat out dynamic as a runner. He is brilliant extending place. He has an aggressive nature to his game that is awe inspiring at times. He has a loose arm. He can rip it. He rips it rolling right. He rips it rolling left. He can rip it from inside the pocket. I think what's missing in his game is scheduling discipline. Yeah. On schedule pre snap. Where are my eyes to go? Can I can I learn in one year with with coach Kiffin? Can I learn how to play within the offense and know when to then become the the dynamic playmaker? I think there's some slinger in in a man. I see some like far. Oh, there's slinger in them. Josh Allen, my homes, whoever you want to look like. There's some absolute. I don't have the onions that this kid does. And I yeah, I don't have the talent. I never had the talent, but I had some onions. This kid's got onions. Okay. And I think I think an opportunity to play for a year. Do it. If he can do it in the SEC with scheduling, I always think back to that my homes first year as a starter, how different of a like a human being like I'm like, is that the same guy as I watched a Texas tech? I'm not expecting that kind of transformation. But if we see steps towards that, I think there's I think there's an outside shot. I really do. I wouldn't I can't rule him out. I'm yes. And I'm consistent on this, I think you know how I feel. He is way down my board in terms of where he stacks up against some of these other quarterbacks. And I don't even have a first round grade on him. But that's not the exercise. Do I see a path for this kid to get the first overall pick? Yeah, I do because of all the things you said. As frustrating as he's been at times, and the Mississippi state tape man is bad. It is bad, bad. But if you're telling me that did Lane Kiffin's going to take an inconsistent battalion quarterback, you know, from Arizona state and turn him into a guy who's who's in contention to be the first overall pick. I'm with you. By the way, I'm starting to feel like we're on the voice where we're like, we have to like hit the button and turn the chair around and like you some of those guys go down the voice and like, they are they're not good, but you can see the talent. And that's what it is with Sam Levitt. Like, I can just see the ability. So I'm with you. All right, you're up. Ready for this one. UCLA quarterback Niko Iamaliava could be the first overall pick in 2027. A hundred percent. A hundred percent. UCLA was terrible last year. I mean, outside of the win for Penn State, it was a bad year. But Bob Chesney's in town now. And it's it is a I'm going to be fascinated. I believe that program's going to be turned around by Chesney. The question is, how fast does it happen? And I think when you have a quarterback like Niko Iamaliava, who is wildly talented, it could happen quicker than people realize. And when I say wildly talented, look, he's got a he's a tall kid, great frame, strong arm, all the arm talent in the world. But people, I think maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like people underrate this kid as a runner. He can scoot, he can move. He can extend plays. He's also tough. Niko Iamaliava, when we're looking at this, keep in mind, I'm going to get into this a little bit later. A lot of these guys can go back, almost all of them could go back. So we're talking about in a scenario where some of these guys go back. He has a great year. Things fall into place for him. I don't think it's out of the question of the Niko Iamaliava. It could be the first overall pick in 2027. All right. So we've had eight guys come off the board in this order. Dante Moore, they're all quarterbacks. Dante Moore, Lenora Sellers. C.J. Carr, Darian Mensa, Archmaning, Trinidad Chambles, Sam Levitt, Nico E. Maliada. You've picked four? I've picked four. I'm going to shift things for half a second, and I am going to get a non-quarterback on the list, and I'm going to Jeremiah Smith. I want to preface this with, yes, I did the history lesson. I've kind of, I've lived the history lesson. At no point in time during my career, since I graduated at the University of Richmond in 1999, has a wide receiver been the number one overall pick. You have to go back to 1996 with Kishan Johnson, okay? But Jeremiah Smith feels different, and I also want to recognize the fact that, okay, let me show you. If the team has the number one overall pick, they can move back. They can still get Jeremiah Smith because all these great quarterbacks, the price that they can get, yeah, totally, that could happen. But there's also a scenario in which maybe Arch goes back, Carr goes back, Saiyan goes back, like three, four of these guys go back to school, okay? And maybe not dissimilar from last year. And by the way, club next point really well in training camp. So is Nusmire. Tyson Simpson's been awesome. Who's the other? There's another one that we had. Oh, Drew Allers had had a good training camp, although I'm here for that debate a little bit. But yes, Drew Allers has shown a lot of, of course, a lot of promising things. But those guys disappointed across the board this last year, injuries, circumstances in their own poor play. Yeah, right. So there's a scenario in which it isn't a quarterback. Maybe it turns out to be the biggest dud of all time, right? Yep. And then you're staring at what looks like the next Julio Jones. Or, you know what I mean? Uh-huh. And the team's like, we're not getting an offer. We're sticking here. The offer is coming from four spots, but down. We're not passing up on, on the next great. And we're just going to take Jeremiah Smith. And we all know what Jeremiah Smith. I mean, Jeremiah Smith is a different cat. Six foot three named captain to Ohio State recently, 225 pounds. It's going to run in like the high four threes explosive. Like we can get into some specifics on him, but we all know how great he is. And I appreciate you. Here comes the clock. I'm a, I'm a definite yes on this one. But I do, I come with a caveat of, I think you have to exhaust the quarterbacks before you take a position player. And I think there's one other one you should consider. And he wouldn't be the first, he wouldn't be the first position player off the board if we were doing odds. If we were creating our odds, I don't think he's the first position player off the board. So that being said, moving on after Jeremiah Smith, the last quarterback that I think could go first overall is Jane Mayava from USC. And he's the, he's the last quarterback on the list for a reason. Okay. He's not the most mobile guy. Uh, but I also think he's just, he's a great thrower of the football, he's a natural passer. When I threw on the tape, I was surprised at how, how much touch and the way his ability to make layered throws is accuracy. He can move around a little bit. And if we're going through this, look, all of these quarterbacks that we mentioned in the top seven, including a, uh, Yamal Yava, they can all go back. All of them can go back. Do I think they all go back? No, I don't. But they could all go back in this class that we're looking at and get and get paid hands. It keeps me up at night, Michelle, because this class could vanish. This insane quarterback, back class could just vanish in front of our, gone. They all go back. So in that scenario, and, and, and is my, do I have a higher grade on him than a, a Jeremiah Smith or some of the other players we're going to mention in the minute? Absolutely not. But he is a quarterback. And as you mentioned, eight of the last, I think it's eight of the last 10, 15 and the last 20 are quarterbacks. And in those classes, the quarterback offered wasn't our highest graded player. That was last year with Jeremiah. Love that was true. Um, Kyler Murray, his year 2019, Nick Bosa came out that year. We were higher on Nick Bosa. It's generally, it's not, it's just the quarterback. That's what I'm trying to say. And so if that's the case, then I think you have to throw Jade, my oven mix. If we're going by that rationale, it, I actually know what I'm, no. I'll come back to it. Can't happen. All right. Next up for me is Dylan Stewart, Ed rusher from South Carolina. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm just going to shoot straight. Colin Simmons is a better football player all around. In fact, Janze Pierre is, is a better football player at Alabama. Simmons of Texas, Pierre, Alabama, um, all around versatility, like down and down out versus the run, all that stuff. But what gets you paid in the league is getting home as a pass rusher. And there's no one that can do it quite like him in this class. And I get to be honest, like he might wind up. If he takes that next step this year, it's six foot five, two hundred and forty five pounds, terror, dactyl, like I saw nationally, they had like four seven estimated speed get out of here. He's like going to be like four, five eight or something. I mean his take off burst and speed while bending the edge is extraordinary. I don't want to be hyperbolic. I don't, I don't know if I've ever seen it. I don't think I've seen a better takeoff. I'm not even like, I'm just being honest. I don't know if I've seen zero to, to, to whatever quicker than, than he gets there. I see a lot of Brian Burns. When it burns at his best with the Giants, like his best years, I see, I honestly, I see JPP, Jason Pierre Paul. Remember how freakish Jason, Jason Pierre Paul was for that firework of jury. So Florida doing like 10 backflips and we're like, he's got a different level of athleticism for his length. And as he continues to grow into his frame. So as we've seen, it's more likely than an edge rusher is the number one overall pick than it is that Jeremiah Smith at wide receiver is. If you're looking at recent draft history, I mentioned it off the top. The two players that are non-quarterbacks that have been draft picks number one overall are Trayvon Walker in 2022. And then you go back to Miles Garrett in 2017. So this one in a weird way, while Jeremiah Smith feels like he's in a class of his own in a weird way might be a little bit more reasonable. But I think we could, I hope, I'm asking you, I guess. Can we both agree that there is a chance? There's a reasonable chance that he could wind up being the first overall pick. Yeah, he would be the first position player I think that has a chance. I think I had of Jeremiah Smith because edge defenders are valued more than wide receivers. And even though I think that what's interesting to me is I think Jeremiah Smith is generational. If Dylan Stewart is able to take the next step kind of stuff through talking about with that, those tools, I think people are going to be talking about him in a whole different way. Come April. A corner back has never been drafted first overall. Not once. And we're looking at all these great players out there, McShay. But man, I love Notre Dame's Leonard Moore. And I think if you're going to be that guy, you've got to be a generational corner. And I think Leonard Moore could be a generational corner. And I actually thought, when I watched his tape, I actually thought he got off his kind of a slower start last year. And then just turned it on. And there's really nothing he can't do. And it starts with the man cover skills. Kenny stick to guys. I mean, he does not allow a ton of separation. I love that he's very comfortable with his back to the football. I think that's what separates good corners from great corners. He's comfortable when he has to turn and run. He knows how to play through receivers hands. Patrick Sirtaugh. Patrick Sirtaugh. You get. You get. Oh, yeah. I think you're going to say about what I thought you're going to make the point, you know, Sertain didn't go first overall. Stingly didn't go first overall. I'm trying to give it to you. Maybe a lot of course haven't haven't watched him on tape and get a six to what like 197 long physical, but but also smooth. Like it's rare to have like those long physical guys. We're also smooth who also can play off coverage, can play on coverage instincts, like kind of seven interceptions last two years, five, five and 10 games last year. Like kind of got it all. Right. And it's, I'm hoping you're going to give me the dumb and dumb or yes, where you're like, yeah, I mentioned that could happen. It's a one and a million. And I can say to you, so you're saying there's a chance because yeah, I just think he's that good of a player. I think there's a chance, right? Eric Torres. Turner was the last true corner back to be a number two overall pick. As you mentioned, there's never been a number one overall pick at corner back in the modern era of the NFL draft, which dates like almost 70 years now. I think yeah, yeah. I want to say 1964. I should know that. I get sick and tired of hearing certain types with their impressions. For all the types of purposes it ever had. Travis Hunter was a receiver corner who was a number two old girl. The Jaguars trade up for it, but that's not the same deal. Then you go to Jeff Okuda in 2020 as a number three pick. Sean Springs in 1997 was a number three pick. So you're talking about like a tiny, tiny list of guys who were even picked in the top three overall and none ever at corner back at number one overall. But if anyone's going to break the barrier, it seems like this guy with another great year for a great Notre Dame team, if things fall apart at quarterback, you can't completely rule it out. Let's go back to quarterback. This one's going to annoy you. Why can't Timon Williams? Oh, no, no, no, no. You know what? Go ahead, make your point. And then I'll say no. The more advanced processor and decision maker than I thought, 33 touchdown passes 9 interceptions through 15 career games. He's going to get another 12, 12 to 15 games this year and be right around the 30 mark. Quick trigger. Bunch of juice on the ball. Not wide receiver, like NFL slot, wide receiver athletically terms of like the suddenness, the ability to, you know, and the speed to go with it. Now, I call him Tank Dell, but like he is, he's a guy that is going to give you headaches in a leap now. I'm with you now. Okay. I saw a better NFL type passing ability out of him than I expected going into it. Now I'm not sitting here and saying, man, he's, he's ready. He's like, Paul, but I'm also telling you that like Jalen Hertz wasn't that guy when he came out. Lamar wasn't that guy. I'm also telling you, this class has got a bunch of quarterbacks with, with mobility. Sellers is a phenom mobility wise on a straight line arch is a train going down the tracks. Like a, like the acela train in the Northeast, levitt is, I told you how dynamic and explosive he is. And some moves around really well, chamblest that just go back to the two places. How does that help the cause for, well, how does that help the argument for Williams? What are we talking about here? Because if you let me finish my sentence, all right, here we go, talking to my kids. If you let me finish my sentence, I don't like maybe sellers. I think this guy is the most dynamic of, of the athletes of the group. And, and I'm also, and I'm, I'm looking at this and saying just as you said before, a bunch of these guys could go back to school. And so, I don't think you can completely rule out that he goes and places ass off, Washington gets into the college football playoff. He makes an unexpected run. And all of a sudden you've got to go back to the tape and admit, you know what, make sure you were right. He is a more advanced passer than I gave him credit for. How tall is he? He's like, color Murray says, he's the same height as, as, as Russell Wilson was coming out. I have 104. Do you think color Murray is a better comp? Yeah. As a former first overall pick. Okay. If they were in the same class, who are you taking? I got to see Kyler's last year, ask me that in, in December. Fair enough. I think I would take Kyler. I'll just go on a limb and say that I would take Kyler. Yeah, right right now, right now, knowing, yeah, yeah, was that a good idea for Arizona? Doesn't appear to be, but, but Arizona made a lot of other really bad. Bad ideas. True love. That's fair. Bad ideas. It's not in a public. I hate it. Yeah. But we also know, we also know that NFL decision makers, remember, they keep receipts. And I don't think there's going to be an NFL team who's going to want to take a chance on a guy who's that height, who's biggest strength, his mobility, and ask some questions as a pocket passer. I don't think so. I'm, I'm a no on that one. How does this work, Dan? Does he just get to drop me with a no? All right, you don't get to do it to me, though. I like it. I think I'm going to go call on Simmons from Texas here because I just think the positional value. We're talking about another edge. I'm with you. I actually thought I would have Simmons a little higher than Stewart before we watch the tape. And you're right. I'm with you that that's two words of like the tools are just too good to ignore. But call on Simmons is the second best pass fresher in this class and what are we talking about? Things value them. You can't have enough of them. And even though he may not have Stewart type get off in that kind of ability, he's still a super talented guy who can win with his hands and get to the quarterback. It makes too much sense for me not to take the second best edge at this point. Do you remember that that draft with Khalil Mac? It also had a Judevian clownie and that was so enamored with clownies traits, but it's not a perfect comparison. But you look back on that draft and there were some people who are arguing hard that Khalil Mac, if he played in the SEC, if he had the same hype, yeah, and after watching him that Ohio State game early in the year, Buffalo played Ohio, they're like, he can do it against anyone. It's not his fault. He played it Buffalo, right. It could be something like that when we get closer to the draft, right? Where Dylan Stewart is just so physically freakish that you feel like you got to take him because the good lord only makes a few of these guys, you know, but then you watch the tape and you're like, but the better football player right now is Colin Simmons. So I'm just that, I just want to throw that out there so people have an understanding of what we're debating with those two guys. I'm not going to rule it out. I'm going to do yes. This is where it gets really interesting. You get sticky now. I like it real sticky. I'm not going to say the names. I'm considering so that I'm I'm leaning one way or the other with you. Janze Pierre, yeah, yeah, six to the argument, 244 plays everywhere. Versatility spends the most majority of his time, you know, on the edge, but left and right side can play stand up outside linebacker can play. He plays off ball linebacker at times. Great straight line speed projected for six can plenty of experience dropping into coverage. I talked about him the other day. I don't want to go into a big rant. This guy's an absolute coaching clinic. I thought he was just a pass rusher because he put up what eight sacks this last year and felt like he had big sacks and big moments. He had 15 tackles for loss he had 58 tackles total last year. The guy's all over the field. He does every little thing right. And so what if Dylan Stewart doesn't have the year that we expect and by the way Dylan Stewart, his sack production went from like six and a half to four or four and a half like it inclined this past year. So what if like he just doesn't quite get there this year what maybe comes back. I don't know that that will be the case, but what if Pierre just comes out and has a monster year. I would I think there's a but I don't know. I would look at these other quarterbacks and I wonder could it come down to like a Colin Simmons versus a Pierre and all of a sudden we're next to you. Trayvon Walker was not ever going to be the first overall pick when Aiden Hutchinson was in that class. Yeah. Now the caveat is they didn't there weren't great quarterbacks in that class. Right. I do imagine a Dante more being available after coming back another year and we're just going to take Yon's a Pierre. So it is suspended belief but there are scenarios like just to be clear about why I went through like. So I want us to go through this to be like what were the scenarios for a non-quarterback going first. I think you could start off with all of those guys going back, right. Then you get into these like well there could be a trade scenario, but what if and I really hope this doesn't happen. What if a great a team that has a great young quarterback, unfortunately has like that Tom Brady situation where he blow out his ACL in the first game of the year and the Patriots ended up being competitive that year, but what if what if a quarterback it's hurt early and a team that knows they have set a quarterback has a terrible year because of it and they end up picking first. Do they made an all out of these quarterbacks go back now do you like there's all of these things that could happen that are unlikely and hopefully don't happen that could put you in a position where a position player goes first overall. Yeah. I wouldn't I wouldn't do it. But I think that you have to consider Texas wide receiver Cam Coleman here. I this could be a member Marvel's and Harrison junior versus Malik neighbors. Martin Harris junior was a lock. He was the guy. I'm not even working out of the combine. I'm not getting measured. I'm not doing any of that. I'm Marvin Harris Jr. Harrison junior. I didn't know identical grades to neighbors and Marvin Harrison Jr. But you didn't the year before did you? You had a Harrison junior. I'm guessing way ahead of everyone right way way. I think there's potential for the debt the gap to close between these two and do I think Cam do I think Cam Coleman's talented enough to be the first wide receiver to go first overall since Keeson Johnson in 1996. I do. I love his tape. And if he can get, I mean, we've talked about this a little bit with Cam Coleman, but just go over it again. The quarterback play at Auburn was not great. And you watch the tape. You watch Oklahoma. Yeah, I think it's three catches for 88 yards and a touchdown on the Oklahoma game. I think he also got two pass in her interference calls. He dropped the ball. He could have gone for 250 and three touchdowns against, against Oklahoma's defense. That's how good that tape is. So it's unlikely why receiver goes. We've gone through a lot of names, but keep Cam Coleman, the Y receiver attacks us in mind. I'm going to, I might surprise you with this one, but I'm actually, I'm here to actually fight, fight it. You're going to say no, okay? No, no, no, I'm going to say, I'm going to say, yeah, I love this thing too. I think we're in for a special year with Cam Coleman. So I'm just going to give you, yes, there's a possibility in the world that you could go number one, even though it's tiny percentage given the position and this quarterback class. But yeah, if I'm going to say yes to some of these other guys, I'm going to say yes to him. My next pick is quarterback John Matier from Oklahoma. Okay, wild. I get it. And what we saw last year after the thumb injury, no bueno. Couldn't drive the ball down. And he has mature moments. And like, for as much brilliance, for every two brilliant plays, there's a maddening one, right? And I get it. Another year of maturity, second year in the SEC, I don't, I don't know what to believe when it comes to his mechanics. And what we saw at Manning Passing Academy and all the work he's put in to become the modern day, feet right, balanced, drive back hit. That's how quarterback's are thrown now. It's all, it's all, it's a balanced golf swing of, of right here there, like nothing gets outside the frame. Changed his arm angle a little bit, dealing with the thumb. What if he comes out in this underrated Oklahoma football team? And they go win 11 games during the regular season and he is dealing. And you when I watch that tape at Washington State, when this cat is dealing, he's different. And I remember Baker Mayfield got hot at Oklahoma and led them to that. And I was on the field of the Rose Bowl and they lost to Georgia. But by gosh, that I fall in love with that young man. It is in the getting his ass handed to him, fighting competitiveness, the toughness, the dog in him that most other quarterbacks you don't quite see at least as visibly in the face of his offensive linemen, but picking them up like materials got all that kind of stuff. What if he comes out this year and this mechanical tweaks that we said, he's got to change his mechanics. It's always said. And then he came in the first year at Oklahoma, nothing was different. It was up in the air and flinging. How does he creating this torque? And then all of a sudden he gets injured and like they shut him down essentially. But he's so competitive. He's such a tough runner. He's such a great leader. They decided we got a better chance to win with that guy who can't throw the ball down the field. Then we do with anybody else here. Now if he can throw it and he can rip it. So I don't know. That's my pitch on material. I don't love the odds. I don't like the percentage, but you have to consider it. I think it's a reasonable consideration to go with that to think he could do it. I want to I want to remind you now we're at 17. Yeah. You don't know which have been you haven't laughed in the yet. All right, so now you're up though. Texas offensive tackle Trevor Goosby could be the first overall pick in 2027 because I mean, you went back for the last 10. I went back for the last 20 drafts for the last 20 drafts. The five players that weren't quarterbacks with three edges and two offensive tackles hasn't happened since 2013 with Eric Fisher. I get that. I just think it's such a value value of position and to be blunt about it, Goosby's the best prospect at offensive tackle. I think he's the most consistent. He's he's got a lot of experience at this point. If he can stay healthy, I think Trevor Goosby could be the first overall pick. I'd love to say no, but there if it's reasonable that Janze Pierre could somehow swing in that one too. Yeah, then then then Goosby. Yeah, I'll give you Goosby. Awesome. I'll give you Goosby. Barely. Barely. It'll have been a 14 year gaps. It's an offensive tackle went one overall. These edges and wide receivers are absolute. These quarterbacks are outstanding. So but but yeah, but also remember this Jeremiah Smith can go back. Cam Coleman can go back. Dylan Stewart can go back. Collins Simmons can go back. Leonard Mork can go back and Trevor Goosby can come back. Go back. It's going to be very interesting to see who declares with this draft. I'm officially waving the white flag. No. Yep. I've spent decades not years building a reputation. I don't I while I trust everyone behind the scenes implicitly, I don't trust them to not clip something where I'm pitching fucking messed a maker as the next one off the board or whoever. Well, I need the I need the notoriety. I need the attention. So I'm willing to to sell it. So I'm turning to you and I will cheer and I will listen and I will give you honest answers. And maybe you can talk me into it. You rip. We'll go who you got to wrap. I'm going to go rapid fire. Yep. With the well, we'll handle it. Okay. I think Ole Miss defensive tackle will echoes could be the first overall pick in 2027. He could be the first defensive tackle to go first overall since big daddy Dan Wilkinson did in 1994. I just think he's that good. I watch his tape. He's every bit as good as Mason Graham was coming out of who was a top five pick. He's every good as Ken Williams was who was a third overall pick. That's how highly I think of Will Eccles. He can win in whatever scheme you want to put him in. You want him to two gap, you want him to stack, locate, shed, get to get to the ball. Carry no problem. You want him to be disruptive, get into gaps, big plays in the backfield and do that in one gap scheme. He can absolutely do that for you too. I think it's a good pass. It's a good pitch. The elevator just elevated George is open. It's a good pitch. I think it's important for our audience to understand how good he is, but I'm giving you a no. What do you got next? If we're going to go with the other two wide receivers, why can't we consider Charlie Becker out of Indiana? If he has a massive year as a deep threat who can really, if he, we already know what he could do as a deep threat, right? He improves as a route runner. He shows what he can do after the catch. Why can't it be Charlie Becker Jr.? I absolutely love Charlie Becker Jr. I actually think he's one of the 10 best players, maybe 10 and 12 best players in this class heading into the year. We'll drop our top 50 in the next couple weeks, next week or so, actually. He's going to be really high up there. No, who's next? I'm going to love three offensive tackles here that you're going to say no to. Fine, I don't care. I got thick skin. It doesn't bother me at all. Here's three guys to keep an eye on. Iowa offensive tackle Trevor Locke. South Carolina offensive tackle, Jeric Jakarius Peak, in LSU offensive tackle, Jordan Seaton. I think Locke is probably the most likely of those three, because he's a little more refined, especially as a run blocker. But in Iowa's offense, I always kind of worry about true pass sets and this is going to be a little bit of an adjustment there. That being said, I think all three of those guys are big guys who move super well and have the natural ability to be franchise tackles in the NFL. Yes. Peaks got a lot of talent. It would be interesting to see how he plays this year as you see the bumper. But I keep talking to people in the league and and Seaton's been intriguing since the start, but Locke is the name I've heard more of is the summer's gone on that there's two legit guys that they got they got an interior and they get Locke that are going to be like great starting offensive lineman in the NFL. So it's part of the reason why I think I was one of the most more underrated teams in the country. All right, anybody else? Dan, I think those are yeses. Are those yeses, Dan? No, those are noes. And this is the one that's going to really really get under skin and you're going to call these are going to call me up and I don't care. Oregon defensive tackle and Mari Washington give you the first overall pick in 20, 20 fuck out of here. Dude, dude, I just made the argument of why defensive tackle could do it. By the way, Wilkinson went first overall 94. Hey, you made the argument. I said, no, I know. I know 91 92 and 94 all defensive tackles first overall picks. I think we were we were in high school and we were in high school. Don't tell people that makes you okay? The guy that went 93 by the way was Drew Blitz. Oh, that being said, I do think defensive tackles are become more more important in the game. People realize how important is to move quarterbacks off the spot. Now you could do it by kicking guys inside and I get there's a number we're doing blah, blah, blah, blah. But I'm just saying I'm already Washington. The tape's not good enough. If you're going to tell me the tape's not good enough, I'm going to say you're 100% right. I understand the naysayers. He is inconsistent, but we're talking about a absolute freak of a human being who if he turns it on and can play at the level he does it in spurts like at that high level. I don't know. It's something to keep an eye on. I'll keep an eye on him, but no. Of all those ones, I'll be honest with you echoes and becker echoes beckler and lock I've had some intrigue the others you lost me on I'm gonna let we we've got a fan dual futures We've got to get to in a minute. Okay. I love I love this time of year, okay? We've got 17 players that we've ripped through of which is that 17 right I thought it was more than that regardless 17 17 yeses are a dangerous time that we have 17 yeses that we've got by my count We've got 24 guys that were in consideration Kind of speaks to this year's classes. I told you like the preseason yeah scouting like some of the grades I don't put any stock into but like to see the difference in this year's grades Compared and how deep they go before you even get to like 24 deep or something before you even get to the highest grade from last year This class had almost has a full almost a full first round of talent before you get to a player who was drafted last year, okay based off of like preseason grade so It's awesome and we're all we're excited about it But I'm also excited about fan dual futures, but I've got one last thing. I'm gonna throw to you because I'm surprised that we've gotten 24 deep And you did not bring up the name Mesta maker. I did once in passing. No No, I'm not there yet. Okay, because I've talked to some other people Who legitimately think he's a first round talent quarter back and I I think there are I don't I'm here to be proven wrong always I'd be pumped if four weeks in we do a show on oh my gosh Mesta maker's so much better than I thought this is awesome, right? Yeah But I've talked to some people who view Mesta maker as a potential like Fernando Mendoza type rise this year Yeah But I'm just surprised because I know you liked him a lot more than I did off of tape so I wanted to give you the floor Yeah, no, I just I like there's a difference between Indiana and Oklahoma state I mean, there just is like you're gonna go to Oklahoma state and I think there I don't think there is that There's not that opportunity to make that kind of mediocre mediocre rise or media, you know what I mean?
