44: The 11-Year-Old Little Girl Seen on the School Bus & Then Vanished | Madalina Cojocari
52m 4s
Madalina Kojikari, an 11-year-old girl from North Carolina, disappeared in November 2022 after her school noticed unexplained absences. Her parents, Diana and Christopher, failed to report her missing within 24 hours, violating Caylee’s Law, leading to their arrests. Investigations revealed troubling red flags: suspicious financial transactions, including Diana’s $4,000 payment to a Moldovan priest and her trips to remote areas, burning of personal items, and inconsistent stories. Surveillance footage showed Diana and Christopher acting unusually happy and affectionate after the disappearance, contradicting their claims of concern. A key text message from Christopher instructed Diana to hide Madalina by homeschooling her, indicating awareness of her absence. Despite extensive evidence, including encrypted phone data and connections to drug smuggling, both parents were released after serving brief jail terms—Christopher on probation and Diana deported to Moldova, where extradition is unlikely. The case remains unsolved, with no confirmed information about Madalina’s fate. Her 15th birthday in April 2026 was marked by a wave of birthday cards from strangers, symbolizing widespread public hope and grief. The central question remains: did Diana or Christopher hide or harm Madalina? While the evidence strongly suggests concealment, no definitive proof of abduction, trafficking, or murder has emerged. The lack of justice, combined with the parents’ refusal to cooperate, underscores the tragic and unresolved nature of this missing child case.

a little girl with a love for ice cream and horses
potentially gone for as many as three weeks before her
parents spoke up
bottom line is she's a suspect in the disappearance of her own daughter
i hope that you know she's run away or something and comes back
her grandmother is claiming that you sold madalina what do you have to say about that
there are some cases that i cover on this podcast where it feels so painfully obvious
who is responsible for the crime and who is not
responsible but the evidence it just isn't quite there yet i mean hello look at casey anthony right
and honestly i will say some of those cases are the hardest cases to talk about the ones where
you know that someone is guilty as hell but for whatever reason they never really pay for it and
you guys today's case is absolutely one of those cases and casey anthony is actually a pretty
fitting comparison because this case has a lot of the same elements a beautiful little girl who just
vanishes without a trace suspicious parents very bizarre explanations and way more questions than
answers now if you don't know what i'm talking about yet today we are talking about madalina
kojikari the 11 year old little girl who got off the school bus one day for thanksgiving break in
2022 but then seemingly vanished into thin air now i've covered madalina's case a lot on this
channel however the last time that i did a true deep dive was all the way back in 2023
and back then i dug into madalina's home life got into all the dirt on her mom diana and her
stepfather christopher and i walked through the theories about how a seemingly normal 11 year old
little girl could just disappear and when i tell you we found dozens of red flags i mean you guys
the motherlode because spoiler alert diana and christopher are both extremely sketchy however
in the three years since we last talked about madalina there have been a lot of
updates both diana and christopher have landed themselves in jail even more disturbing theories
have come forward and this case has only gotten more complicated but the biggest tragedy is that
even through all of this through all the evidence pileups and all the theories and the arrests
madalina is still missing and april of 2026 marked her 15th birthday yet we still don't even know if
she was alive to celebrate it let alone who she would have celebrated it with so given all the
of those updates and the fact that this case is still unsolved i thought you know what it's time
we reopen it the plan is to walk you through my original deep dive so that you get the full
picture of madalina diana and christopher but along the way i'm going to be dropping in current
updates new thoughts different perspectives things that might you know maybe i've changed my mind
about along the way so basically you'll be hearing from you know me current annie and past annie so
the audio might jump around a little bit but that's just so that i
can make sure that you have the full story and it's because i have different equipment now than
i did then and you know piecing it all together but we have a lot to uncover today and most
importantly we need to get madalina's story back out there so guys my name is annie elise hit that
follow button hit the like button hit the subscribe button because today we are reopening
the case of madalina kojikari let's jump into it
so
madalina kojikari was born on april 11 2011 to her mother diana diana comes from a family of
well-known musicians in moldova which is an eastern european country tucked between romania
and ukraine moldova is one of the poorest european countries out there but it has a very rich culture
it's beautiful untouched countrysides and world-renowned wineries really
make it a unique place to visit and even to live in moldovian culture women are said to value
traditional family life often marrying young and caring for the children and domestic duties
however divorce is prevalent in moldova and it's not uncommon for husbands to abandon their families
leaving the wife to financially support herself and children in a very poverty-stricken economy
this is exactly what happened to diana whose partner abandoned her
and their daughter madalina in 2014 when madalina was only three years old diana who was working as
an english translator wanted a better life and a future for her and her daughter she joined an
international dating website hoping to find a potential husband many people suspect that the
website that she chose was one of the hundreds of moldanian mail order bride type websites
these sites make it easy for american men looking for love to find a wife and one of those men
who found one was christopher palmeter christopher palmeter was born and raised in michigan and
after college he became a successful designer at an engineering firm his career took him to
north carolina where he settled in a metropolitan town called cornelius near the city of charlotte
in 2014 he joined one of those dating sites an international dating website and came across
diana kojikari christopher is 37 years diana's senior but they
allegedly were quickly captivated by each other and developed a romantic long-distance relationship
just a few months later the two were engaged without ever meeting face to face in 2015 diana
and madalina would arrive in the u.s on a k-1 visa which if you've ever seen the show 90-day fiancee
it basically means that diana and christopher only had three months to get married a very tight window
leaving behind her close family in moldova diana was a close friend of christopher's and she was
the only one who had a relationship with him and he was the only one who had a relationship with him and he was
diana was excited for her new life with madalina in this four hundred thousand dollar beautiful
home that christopher had bought for them to live in as a family the home christopher purchased is
in the affluent town of cornelius located in meckleburg north carolina and situated along a
large man-made lake called lake norman the new neighborhood was a stark contrast to where diana
and madalina came from in moldova over the seven years that the family has lived in cornelia
neighbors on Victoria Bay Drive have said that they rarely saw Diana outside of the home,
ever by herself, and that Christopher was always the one to accompany Madalena when she was playing
outside. Others have said that Christopher would never let Madalena be outside alone with other
children, and he was always by her side, even being the one to take Madalena trick-or-treating,
without Diana. One of the main places they would go as a family was a local restaurant up to three
times a week, and the waiters said that they seemed to be a normal and happy family. In 2020,
Christopher lost his high-paying job at the engineering firm, and he decided to start his
own business, fabricating engraved resin plaques for various businesses and displays. This resulted
in a significant income change, but Christopher's business appeared to be gaining traction,
and they didn't outwardly show any signs of struggling financially. Even though they seemed
to be an average family unit, there were some glaring differences between the two families.
Diana and Christopher, besides just their significant age gap. It's said that around
90% of people from Moldova are Orthodox Christians, but Diana had taken a completely
different spiritual route by becoming a follower of Kundalini. Kundalini places emphasis on
spiritual awakening, enlightenment through intense personal experiences, and specific advanced yoga
practices. Diana dedicated herself to the founder of the Kundalini Yoga, and this was a good way to
help her. She even continued to support him after he was discovered to be a fraud and alleged
predator of a very graphic and sexual nature. Now, Yogi's teachings emphasized violence and trauma
as a way to trigger this awakening. And even though most people who practice Kundalini have
rejected his teachings, Diana's support has been unwavering. Diana would preach some alarming
ideology on her Facebook even.
wrong of being violent. It is nothing wrong. It is just a crude way of conducting life.
If you say violence is bad, that means you will end up rejecting a part of yourself and
you can never get rid of it because it will not go. It will come out in so many ways.
People are very peaceful on the street.
but pretty violent at home. If they are not capable of physical violence, they are verbally
violent, or they are violent in their thoughts or emotions, or so many other ways. So rejecting
violence, it's not going to work. Christopher did not share in Diana's beliefs at all,
and clearly had very conservative values, sharing things like Christian and pro-gun posts all over
his Facebook. These differences were said to be one of the many reasons that arguments started
between the two of them. By 2022, Madalena was 11 years old and in the 6th grade at Bailey Middle
School in Mecklenburg County. She loved horseback riding and was said to only have a couple friends
at school because of her very shy and quiet personality. Some of her teachers noticed that
she seemed to be very guarded and offensive. She was also a very conservative person, and she was
often seen wearing her jacket, possibly even as a comfort item, even in the hot weather. However,
she was a sweet, polite, and very bright student, who teachers loved having in their classroom.
Madalena had been doing great in school until November of 2022, when she started having a long
stretch of unexcused absences. She was last seen getting off of her school bus on November 21st,
and when she never returned to school, her teachers and guidance counselors became concerned about
her. They hadn't gotten a call about her being sick or being out of town, and they tried several
times to call Madalena's parents, but they were always sent to voicemail. They even tried mailing
a letter to their house about their concern with her absences. On December 12th, 2022,
a school resource officer and a counselor decided to make a visit to Madalena's home.
They knocked several times, but when no one came to the door, they had no choice but to
leave a truancy packet and a note asking that Madalena's parents contact the school as soon
as possible. With the threat of legal trouble from the truancy packet, on December 13th,
Diana finally called the school and agreed to bring Madalena in for a meeting to discuss the
absences. On December 15th, Diana arrived at the school to meet with the counselor,
but Madalena was not with her as she had promised. Diana was forced to reveal that she had not seen
Madalena since November 23rd. Even more shockingly, the counselor found out that after 22 days,
Diana still had not seen Madalena.
So the school contacted the local police department, who began questioning Diana about
what happened to Madalena. Diana told the detective that she last saw Madalena around
10 p.m. on November 23rd, the night before Thanksgiving. She had gone to her bedroom
after Diana and Christopher started having a heated argument. The next morning, Christopher
left to make a trip to Michigan to get some items, possibly from a family-owned home.
When Diana went to check on Madalena,
she realized that she was gone, along with her backpack and some clothing items.
Diana figured that Christopher must have taken her on the trip with him,
but she didn't call to verify that Madalena was with him. Diana was surprised when Christopher
arrived home two days later without her daughter. After that, she explained the strange conversation
where she asked Christopher if he knew where Madalena was, and he turned around and asked
her the same question. Apparently, neither one of them knew where she was, and Diana told the
detective that she didn't know where she was, because she was afraid of starting a
conflict with her husband. She also said that he had previously put her family in danger.
That is a direct quote. Christopher told detectives that he hadn't seen Madalena since one week
before Diana claims to have last seen her. He said he asked her several times if she
had hidden Madalena, and Diana would just ask him the same question, so neither of them
apparently had any answers. But still, for some reason, they just didn't know. Diana
chose not to call the police. However, Diana didn't keep Madalena's disappearance completely
a secret, and reportedly, she had called family members in Moldova, who encouraged her to contact
authorities. Now, even though these family members were aware of the situation, they didn't make any
attempts to report her missing either. Now, I will say, it's reportedly common for people in Moldova
to have a distrust of police and would rather work things out as a family rather than get police
involved. On Saturday, December 17th, Diana and Christopher were in Moldova, and they were
arrested due to Caylee's Law, which is a law created after Casey Anthony failed to report her daughter Caylee missing for 31 days. The law makes it a felony for a parent or guardian not to report a child missing within 24 hours. After their arrest, the county police asked for assistance from the FBI to investigate Madalena's disappearance. Christopher was given a $200,000 bond, and Diana was given a $250,000 bond, with the stipulation that the
family would surrender their passports if they were to make bail. The judge, however, would later revoke
Diana's bond. The family's home was searched multiple times, and police were seen removing
several bags of evidence from the residence. The investigators questioned neighbors, school staff,
and family members, all while searching the area for any sign of Madalena. However, the officials
knew that they were at a significant disadvantage due to Diana and Christopher failing to report
Madalena missing for so long.
Investigators have developed and followed nearly 250 leads spanning across state lines and across
the globe. We have interviewed hundreds of people in North Carolina and other states and again
across the globe. We went door to door to at least 245 homes focusing on the Victoria Bay
community where Madalena lives. We canvassed businesses and scoured through hours of
surveillance video from all over the area. We also led land and water searches around Lake Cornell,
California, and the area. We also led land and water searches around Lake Cornell, California,
as a precautionary measure. Investigators obtained multiple search warrants for Madalena's home
to make sure we legally gathered each and every possible piece of evidence to find Madalena.
Some of the neighbors revealed a potentially concerning piece of information as well,
and said that on November 27th, after Christopher had returned from his trip to Michigan,
they began noticing fires burning in the family's backyard.
On one occasion, Diana and Christopher were allegedly seen burning couch
cups in the family's backyard. They were also seen burning couch cups in the family's backyard.
which is not something you typically see happening in an upscale neighborhood.

Investigators digged up several areas in the backyard and also noted in the probable cause
affidavit that there was an area in the kitchen that was blocked off with plywood.
Christopher had stated that this area in the kitchen was blocked off because he was
renovating the room behind the plywood and turning it into a separate apartment,
which this was kind of a strange explanation because one bedroom was used by Christopher and
another was used by Madalena, leaving two completely empty rooms in this four-bedroom
house. It's possible that Christopher wanted to make an apartment to rent out and maybe earn
extra income after that financial hit from losing his job. However, there was never any
contractor information found or signs that renovations had begun on this blocked-off room.
After the couple's probable cause hearing in January of 2023,
there really weren't many more updates that were released to the public, and people started to
had gone cold, but then some of the court documents
which were meant to remain sealed, they got leaked. And these documents were full of huns
of damning information. A worker at the restaurant that the family visited two to three times a week
stated that after the date Madalena supposedly went missing, the couple came in alone and they
would make up excuses about where Madalena was. The waiters who were so used to seeing Madalena
said that Christopher and Diana told them that she was now actually either with a babysitter
or at a sleepover. They said that the couple acted completely normal and you wouldn't have
known that they had a missing child. An interview with another employee named Jessica at that same
restaurant, that interview had even more disturbing details to share. Now the craziest part of the
interview was when Jessica described Diana and Christopher's behavior during the time that it
had been discovered that Madalena was missing. Jessica said that Diana and Christopher always
showed average public displays of affection.
But that it was much different during the time that Madalena was gone. She said that when they
started coming in without Madalena, she'd ask where Madalena was and they would always have an
excuse ready. It wasn't like they had to think of what to say. They just popped out with, oh,
she's at a birthday party or she's at a sleepover, which again was a little strange because Madalena
had never been known to do anything like that with other kids. She also said that during this time,
Christopher and Diana were acting like giddy,
leewards, holding hands, passionately kissing, and were just all over each other. And it was
always initiated by Diana. She said that it was like they were on dates and that they had never
seemed happier. When she found out that Madalena was actually missing during that time, it absolutely
disgusted her because Diana and Christopher both acted happier than they did before. But now
Madalena was gone. So why are you so happy? She said that in her opinion, there is no way that
Diana was going to be happy. She said that she was going to be happy. And she said that she was
a victim of any sort of domestic harm. One of the reasons she said that is because she said that she
came in a lot by herself and never asked for help, saying that she could have gotten help from the
police, that she could be cooperating now, but she's not. Which I don't necessarily agree with
that because there are a lot of situations of domestic disputes where even when somebody is
isolated and alone, they still don't feel comfortable confiding in somebody what the
situation is or acknowledging what's going on. But while she was saying all of this, she also
said that she was not comfortable confiding in somebody what the situation is or acknowledging
what's going on. She said you'd think that if someone's daughter was missing, they'd be beside
themselves, not going on dates, acting happy as can be, and making out with the person they believe
had something to do with their child vanishing. Jessica, as well as other people who knew the
couple, said that Diana was actually the one who wore the pants in the relationship. But to people
who were around them frequently and regularly, Christopher apparently was the soft-spoken one,
the one who followed Diana's lead. And it just appeared like she was the more dominant of the
two.
The only thing Jessica and others can't grapple with is that it does appear that Diana had
something to do with Madalena's disappearance, or at the very least, knows where she is. But it's
so confusing because Diana seemed super loving toward her daughter. Everyone said that she was
nurturing, affectionate, would get all of Madalena's favorite little candies to make her happy,
and Madalena never seemed disheveled, dirty, hungry, harmed, or anything like that.
So how could this happen? How does a family end up in a situation like this when it's obvious
that Madalena wasn't just taken by a stranger? In February, police learned that Diana had not
been honest about the days after Madalena's alleged disappearance. They discovered that
when Christopher left for his trip to Michigan, she also made her own trip to Madison County,
North Carolina, which is about a three-hour drive from Cornelius. Diana made no mention of this trip
and investigated the situation. She said,
only found out due to an officer remembering her uniquely colored Prius on the side of the road.
He had stopped to check on the driver, who was Diana, and he stated that there was no child in
the car at the time. Two pictures were also found of Diana standing in front of a wooded area in
Madison County, which is located deep in the Appalachian Mountains. This new revelation made
Diana look even more guilty of something, and police began searching the roadside and the
Madison. Investigators also issued a flyer asking anyone in Cornelius and Madison if they saw Diana
or Madalena in the family's greenish-gray Toyota Prius, any time around the dates of November 22nd
all the way through December 15th. There have also been new reports that Diana's phone records
show that in the days leading up to Madalena's disappearance, she placed dozens of calls to a
Madalena Kojikari missing Facebook group, did a background search on Octavian, and it appears that
he is not so distant after all. Octavian is actually Diana's nephew, who lived with the
family in North Carolina as recently as 2019. He currently lives with his new wife in Florida.
In an interview with Octavian, he told police that Diana asked him to smuggle her and Madalena
away from their home because her relationship with Christopher was getting
very bad and she wanted to get a divorce. When police looked into Octavian's phone records,
they found several calls to people currently being investigated for large-scale drug and
narcotic smuggling. According to officials, oftentimes drug smuggling is closely intertwined
with human smuggling as well. Other reports say that there were calls made to some of these
individuals from Diana's phone as well. Due to the nature of the investigation into smugglers,
law enforcement is able to utilize wiretaps,
tapping, to get information. After it was discovered that there was a possible drug
component, documents say that investigators got a warrant to search the family's car and their home
again, this time with a canine unit. On February 13th, the canine alerted for the scent of narcotics
at the driver's door, but none were reported to have been found in the car at the time.
However, in the console of the vehicle were several important documents,
including Madalena and Diana's Moldovan and Romanian passports, Diana's Moldovan
debit card, and various work and education records, as though everything had been gathered
and collected to make a move. The direction of this investigation has now shifted from
a possible kidnapping or murder investigation to a potential smuggling or even some sort
of traffic-related investigation. Officials have said that they now can begin looking for links
between family members and friends to individuals involved in the drug industry and that this turn
of events gives more hope to the investigation. The investigation is now in the process of
moving to Madalena being alive. They said that it's possible that Diana wanted to smuggle her
out and away from Christopher to another area where family and friends could keep her safe,
but at this point, they just aren't sure. Diana is still insisting that she doesn't know where
Madalena is or what happened to her. The fact that Diana allegedly wanted to get away from
Christopher and get Madalena to safety adds weight to the theory that there was physical and emotional
harm happening in that home. There was the mugshot photo that showed possible bruising on Diana's eye
and temple area, and some believed that this was another sign of a domestic dispute at the hands of
Christopher. Back in Moldova, Diana's father, Victor Kojikari, said that in an interview that
Diana and Madalena seemed happy when he spoke to them on the phone, but that they were only able
to call when Christopher wasn't home. He said that Christopher was against Diana staying in
touch with her Moldovian relatives, which led to her family believing that he had complete control
over her. He also said that whenever he would call Diana and say, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm
and the family was together, Christopher would be the one to answer the phone and explain what they
were doing and how things were going and just be the voice of the family. Even if Diana was in the
car, Christopher talked to her father instead of just handing her the phone. He said that Diana
had to get permission to communicate and to go anywhere. Victor believes that Christopher is the
one who is solely responsible for Madalena's disappearance, and he thinks that he kidnapped
her the day he drove to Michigan. Diana's family have said that they have no idea where Madalena
would be, and they were just as shocked as everyone else to hear about her disappearance.
An anonymous family member in Moldova handwrote a letter to the Cornelius Police Department,
and this letter says, we as a family are devastated and absolutely heartbroken
to learn that Madalena is missing. We love Madalena and are shocked by these circumstances.
This is something that no child or family should ever have to endure. Our family is doing
everything we know to do to support the efforts to find Madalena and bring her home.
We are and continue to have hope and positivity in this difficult time, and pray that she is found
safe very soon. We know and greatly appreciate that the local, state, national, and online
communities have come together to share flyers and offer positive support, hold prayer vigils,
support law enforcement, and are doing everything possible to find and bring Madalena safely home.
We are also appreciative of all of the efforts, endless hours, and boots on the ground of the
local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies who are involved with the same goal.
Madalena is a beautiful, smart, kind, and loving 11-year-old girl, with greatness in her future.
We are desperate to find her right now. She needs all of your help. We ask for your continued
positive support in sharing far and wide the posters and pictures of Madalena. Each and every
share may be one step closer to finding her. If you believe you have seen Madalena or have
any information related to her whereabouts, please call 1-800-422-4222.
contact your local law e
police department and come forward with this information. Anything may help. Our family would
like to express sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for your support. Our family
will continue to do everything we know and learn to do for Madalina's safe return home. Blessings.
So there was speculation that Diana wanted to smuggle Madalina to where family or friends
could keep her safe from any harm that was going on inside of that home. Some even felt like she
was making a sacrifice for her daughter by remaining in jail to keep her safe. While
incarcerated, Diana was charged with possession of cocaine and fentanyl, which kind of bolsters
the idea that she may have been involved in that drug trade or knew some of the people,
or that she was even addicted to substances like these herself. In these newly released documents,
the investigators discovered that Diana possibly lied about the last time that she saw Madalina.
Originally, she told police that she was a drug addict and that she was a drug addict.
That the last time she saw her was on November 23rd. But then in a text message on December 2nd,
she told the recipient that she was with Madalina. So either Diana was lying to the
recipient on the phone or lying to the police about the last time she actually saw her daughter.

On December 3rd, it was discovered that Diana had stopped at a service station in a town called
Hickory. She stopped there to get an oil change. The attendant said that they noticed toys in the
vehicle, but that there was no child with her. On December 4th, Diana told the police that she
had driven to the mountains to look for Madalena.
No one really knew exactly why she would be looking in the mountains, but on December 16th,
the police department in a town called Sugar Mountain provided investigators with surveillance
photos of a man and a young female. The man in the images looked physically consistent in
appearance to Diana's nephew Octavian, who is her only blood relative that lives in the United
States. And the female in these surveillance images was physically consistent,
with little Madalena. In the documents, it states that the day before Diana and Christopher were
arrested, a search was conducted of their home, and all of the couple's electronics were seized.
There was a text message found from Chris to a family member, and this text message read,
We are in some kind of investigation. Maddie is missing, and the local police have taken all of
our electronics. Luckily, I have an old phone, although they did not take my personal computer,
probably because they overlooked it.
Diana is using it now to call her parents. In addition to their cell phones, multiple thumb
drives, three digital cameras, handwritten letters, bags, wallets, a planner, a desktop computer,
two laptops, the family's passports, a safe, a rifle and ammo, a paper shredder with shredded
paper trash, and the family's two vehicles were all taken as well. In the vehicles, they acquired
receipts, a pocket knife, hairs, a scarf, a navigation system, and the car's radio and
navigation displays. The documents state that they were also going to gather DNA samples for
Diana and Christopher, and all of their bank records to establish activity prior to and after
Madalena went missing. The investigators requested all phone call logs dating back to as far as the
end of the year from the couple's cell phone providers. On Friday, January 6th, investigators
were informed that a company called the We Handle Tech was in possession of a hard drive belonging
to Christopher. They explained that they were hired by Christopher to replace the hard drive
on his computer in October of 2022. The employees stated that it's their policy to keep any hard
drives for one year, and they were able to give it to the Cornelius Police Department to assist
in the investigation. The document states that the hard drive could contain documents, graphics,
emails, videos, address information, text files, and deleted files that could have additional
information to help in the case. Investigators also requested access by Apple to basically
every piece of data under Christopher and Diana's Apple IDs, like GPS information,
Find My Friends, Wi-Fi connections, digital downloads, emails,
all saved passwords and login information as well. They requested a similar warrant for Yahoo and
AOL to acquire all data associated with some email addresses belonging to Chris and over 20
different email addresses belonging to Diana. Now, as we all know, all jailhouse phone calls
are recorded. And during a call between Christopher, his brother, and his brother's wife,
Christopher mentioned that he saw Diana with a lot of cash.
But that he didn't know where it came from. He said that there is financial stuff coming up,
but his brother told him not to worry about that kind of stuff right now. It kind of almost seems
like his brother is thinking a little bit more rationally and what should actually be important
considering Madalena is missing. Now, in one of the biggest revelations in the documents,
during a call between Diana and her mother, Rodica, they discussed a bag with money, withdrawing cash,
and a theory that,
Christopher gave the girl away for money. And this was also seemingly the first time that Diana
acknowledged that, one, Christopher was involved in doing something to Madalena, and two, that she
thinks that Madalena may have been sold. Now, some people have said that they believe that Diana is
lying and was either directly involved with what happened to Madalena or was the one who did it
herself without Chris. Either way, the fact that she believes Chris could have sold her daughter
and she stole her daughter's money, I don't think that's a good thing.
The fact that Diana still is refusing to cooperate with the investigators is the most baffling thing.
I can't imagine how frustrating it is for the detectives to sit in the room with these two
people and just have them not say anything to help at all. Nothing. I also can't imagine Diana
truly believing her daughter is in danger and not telling the police, especially now that she has
been in jail for this amount of time. This sort of leads me to believe that either Diana doesn't
actually think Madalena is in danger, or that she's not. I don't know. I don't know. I don't
or that she was the one to put her in danger and wants to pawn the responsibility off on
someone else entirely. The documents state that they also decided to place an informant in
Christopher's cell to gather information from him while this informant was undercover.
The informant told the detectives that he saw Christopher writing almost everything down,
even mundane tasks that he needed to remember to do. They gathered any and all writings from
Chris on notebooks, on loose paper, sticky notes, legal documents, and even napkins,
paper towels, and toilet paper. Literally, he was writing on every surface he could.
And then, yet another warrant was unsealed. Which this is like the case of unsealed warrants,
guys. And this one gave us even more information about how Diana and Christopher acted after
Madalena's disappearance. And these new documents shed light onto some of the things that were
recovered in the searches of Madalena's cell.
And it definitely seems like Diana was keen on getting rid of these things, or at least
trying to get rid of them. Madeline's mattress, some of her clothing, her Halloween costume from
that year, and even some family photos were all found in a fire pit outside of their house,
half burnt, still salvageable enough to identify what they all were, but still attempted to have
been disposed of. However, there was one thing found in that fire pit that did not belong to
Madeline. And the warrant reads that, quote, a carpet from the home's upstairs spare bedroom
was also inside the fire pit. Now, I'll be honest, when it says carpet, I'm not sure if they mean it
was a literal square that was cut out of the carpet, or if maybe they are referring to a
smaller area rug or something like that. But either way, it's extremely odd. My mind starts
going in a million different directions when I think about it. For example, like, was there maybe
blood on the carpet and they were trying to dispose of it? Could the upstairs spare bedroom
have been some sort of crime scene where they needed to get rid of any possible trace of evidence?
Did the detectives find anything else suspicious in that room? I mean, I could go on forever,
and none of it is good by any means. The warrant also shed some light on what exactly the detectives
were looking for when they were checking the house. According to a local news outlet,
the detectives swabbed stains in several different areas of the house, like one of the light switches,
as well as on the carpet in one of the bedrooms. I mean, which bedroom it was, it wasn't specified,
whether it was Madeline's room or the spare room where that rug or carpet or whatever was in the
fire pit came from, we don't know. But the detectives were looking for something that was
something that was no secret to the public, was that both Diana and Christopher's phones were
seized when this case was first happening. And these new documents show two really crazy things
that were found that I really quickly want to dive into. The first one was that one of the phones
seized in December of 2022, though it doesn't say which phone, it had a Discord account on it with
37 unread messages. Now, based on the investigation into the account, they believe that the account
was Madeline's, or at the very least, was supposed to be Madeline's. So, I don't know if that's true,
like Madeline's. Now, whether or not that was actually her behind the screen, that's up in the
air. But a lot of people are saying, okay, well, what's the big deal about this? Well, let me tell
you. Even though Discord is an app that can be completely harmless, the investigators also
stated that they believe that they found what could potentially be linked to sexual exploitation
of a minor. Now, the second thing that I want to go over was that the warrants revealed that
after searching Diana's phone, she had apparently paid a priest in Moldova a whopping $1,000.
$4,000 in the weeks following Madeline's disappearance. The payments were split,
some before talking with him on a phone call for 10 minutes, and then some after.
But it almost seemed like a down payment or a deposit for something. Then the final payment
came after, which I have to say is just strange, not to mention $4,000 is an insane amount of money
for whatever this 10-minute phone call entailed. And to a priest of all people, it's even more
strange. I mean, maybe it was some sort of spiritual punishment. I don't know. I don't
know. It's just a spiritual forgiveness type of thing. I don't know. So I think it's safe to say
that by this point, the red flags were not just piling up. They were basically stacked to the
ceiling. You had the weeks-long delay before anyone reported Madeline missing, the ignored
phone calls from the school, Diana, her mother, burning her belongings, the connections to known
drug smugglers, the constantly changing stories. And when you really lay all of that out there
to people, Diana and Christopher. Now, of course, we still don't know exactly what happened to
Madeline. And yes, it is technically possible that Diana had Madeline taken out of the United
States for good. Sure. And for her own good, possibly. But what we can say is that Diana
and Christopher's explanations for how Madeline disappeared, they just don't add up. And
investigators clearly felt the same way. Because remember, at this point, both Diana and Christopher
were still sitting there. And they were still sitting there. for failing to report her missing. But then, in May of 2024, we got a surprising update. Both
Diana and Christopher had originally pleaded not guilty. But then Diana changed her mind.
And by that point, Diana had already been sitting in jail for way more than that amount of time.
So immediately after changing her plea, she was just free to go, free to walk, which honestly is a pretty difficult pill to swallow.
I mean, considering all of the evidence suggesting that she may have been involved in whatever happened to her own daughter, to Madalena.
She was deported back to Moldova. Now, a lot of people believe that any answers that we may have gotten about Madalena,
that they went right along with her. Because the U.S., we don't have an extradition agreement with Moldova.
So basically, that means that if the police found rock-solid evidence tomorrow that Diana trafficked her daughter or even killed her daughter,
all they could do is charge her in the U.S. But Moldova wouldn't be required to send Diana back to face those charges.
So chances are, Diana will probably remain free for the rest of her life.
So that now left Christopher as the only person who might still
be held responsible in connection with Madalena's disappearance. And unlike Diana,
he was not about to change his plea. In May of 2024, Christopher's case finally went to trial.
But remember, he wasn't being tried for hurting Madalena. He was only being tried for failing to
report her missing. So the prosecution didn't have to prove that Christopher actually hurt her.
They didn't even have to prove that he knew where she was. All they had to prove was that he knew
that she was gone and that he ignored his responsibility to her.
to do something about it.
After opening statements, the prosecution ended up calling Madalena's guidance counselor to the
stand. And she testified that she did everything that she could to get a hold of the family,
and that Christopher was,
listed with the school as Madalena's legal guardian, meaning that he had a legal duty to protect her.
Now, in order to sign that document, you have to be the legal parent and guardian, don't you?
You have to be one of the legal parents and guardian, yes.
The prosecution also brought in an FBI analyst who went through all of Christopher's devices
and confirmed that he didn't just receive the emails from the guidance counselor,
he also opened them. And then after opening the email,
he googled,
what happens at truancy court?
Which you guys know what I always say,
Google will always, always, always get ya.
Which, I love it. I love it for that.
Now, this analyst also found that after the guidance counselor had called the family,
Christopher texted Diana and he told her,
quote,
you need to call and tell them that you are taking Maddie out of the school system
and going to homeschool her.
Which, hello, that is extremely sketchy, right?
You're instructing her, call the school, tell them,
them you're pulling her out. Tell them you're going to homeschool her. Getting ahead of it.
Because not only does that make it pretty crystal clear that Christopher knew that Madalena was
missing, but he was also texting and telling Diana exactly how to explain it away to the school.
So to me, that sounds like someone with something to hide. And that something is probably connected
to whatever happened to Madalena. The defense's main argument was that Christopher wasn't actually
Madalena's parent. So because of that, he wasn't legally responsible for reporting her missing.
Which, I'm sorry, that argument is kind of ridiculous. Because if you genuinely believe
a child is missing, or that a child is in danger, whether it is your biological daughter or not,
your stepdaughter, your niece, your neighbor, or even a kid you barely even know, you call
the police. That feels like common sense. I mean, they absolutely bear minimum responsibility
as a functioning adult. And not to mention, hello, he was listed as. the guardian on her school paperwork. Which, I could go on and on about this forever, but
anyway, I digress. Now, legally speaking, it is true that Kaylee's law only applies to a child's
parent or guardian. And according to Christopher's brother, Christopher was more like a babysitter
than an actual parent. Diana is the one that pretty much controlled or
or, um, told Madalena what to do.
And then, Christopher himself took the stand. Now, I've said this before, and I will say it again,
it's often, not always, but often, it's often the case that when someone insists
on testifying in their own criminal trial, it's because they have the right to do so.
And that's why we have a little bit of a hint of narcissism going on here, you know? It kind of
gives, like, let me control the narrative. Let me sell the story. But in Christopher's case,
Christopher basically said the same thing that his brother said. He said that his role was mainly
just to entertain Madalena, not to actually parent her.
I was hesitant to play with her. I've never turned her off. I don't think of her by her eyes.
He also said that Diana started off as a good mom, but as she got more and more involved in her
religious groups, she became less attentive to Madalena.
She was very protective and attentive to Madalena. She prayed a lot. So, during those times, she,
I guess, she wasn't as attentive. She didn't want to be even in the night time.
When I was sleeping, she did me in her room, or downstairs. Her chants, her prayers,
her meditations got really loud. During door close, it sounded like she was
almost screaming at the bottom of her voice.
And then, he was finally asked about what happened to Madalena.
Right. Yes.
She asked you on multiple occasions, do you know where Madalena is?
I don't know if that's correct.
Yeah, but she was just wearing her gowns.
She told the police on that day that she was afraid that you could have hurt Madalena.
That's not true.
Like, in the past week, have you communicated with Diana?
Yes.
Where do you think Madalena is?
I think Diana took her somewhere when we were in an open family. I don't know.
Um.
What I believe is that Diana just took her away somewhere.
Where we were.
She's not going to be found.
Now, that last part, it really did send chills down my spine. Because out of everything that
Christopher said, the only time he seemed like he might even be telling the truth, at least in my
opinion, was when he said that Madalena wasn't going to be found. Which to me, it sounded like
he was saying that because he knew that she would never be found. As in, he knew that she was not alive anymore.
Now, yes, it is technically possible that, you know, he was telling the truth about Diana sneaking Madalena away.
But also, I mean, dude, you just admitted that Diana was still living with you. In your house. So why not ask her?
Why not figure out where the hell your stepdaughter is if she's really missing and if you had nothing to do with it?
To me, Christopher is just extremely skeptical.
Extremely sketchy.
And you know what? The jury, they seemed to agree.
Because after deliberating for just 15 minutes, 15 minutes, they found Christopher guilty of failing to report Madalena missing.
But even after all of that, Christopher was only sentenced to probation.
And just like Diana, he walked out free, free man, the very same day.
And this is the part that is so frustrating, guys, as if it's not, you know, already frustrating.
But like I said at the beginning of this episode, this is one of those cases where it feels so obvious who has the answers.
It's so clear to me that even if Christopher and Diana didn't directly hurt Madalena, they know way, way more than they're saying.
But sadly, it's very unlikely that we will ever get the truth and hear the real story.
After Christopher was released, he ended up filing for divorce and he and Diana officially separated in early 2025.
Then, in 2026, Christopher filed an appeal.
He was arguing that he shouldn't have been convicted, which, honestly, I don't even fully understand because he only got probation.
Like, hello, sir, you were literally allowed to walk out the door after your trial.
But I guess he just didn't want a felony on his record.
So, he appealed and he argued that the judge should have allowed his lawyers to show the jury a text message from Diana saying that she had Madalena with her.
Which, I'm sorry, my man.
Text or no text.
Your ass still knew that this child was missing and you didn't report it.
And thankfully, the judge agreed and Christopher's appeal was denied.
But even after all of that, there still really hasn't been justice for Madalena.
Diana and Christopher each served about a year and a half in jail while waiting for their trials.
But ultimately, they both walked free.
And Diana will probably never be tried again, even if more evidence does come out against her.
Because now, she's basically out of reach.
She's basically out of reach in Moldova.
And true justice, like actually knowing the full story of what happened and bringing Madalena home, it's looking more and more unlikely.
And this is just one of those times where I genuinely hope that I am wrong.
I hope that there is something that we are all missing here.
And I hope that Madalena really is safe somewhere.
But with every month that passes, that feels harder and harder to believe.
I mentioned earlier that Madalena turned 15 years old in April of 2026.
And in honor of her birthday, the Cornelius Police Department placed a box in their lobby where people could come and drop off birthday cards for her.
Which honestly, this next part, it really got me.
Because hundreds and hundreds of cards came in from complete strangers all around the world.
And at this point, all anyone can really do is hope that one day, Madalena is able to read these cards herself and see just how many people truly care about her.
Even more than her own parents should have.
And how many people wanted her to be brought home.
This has been such a tough one over the years, guys.
I mean, missing kids are always hard.
But this case is especially difficult because there are just so many unanswered questions.
And I'm dying to know what you guys think.
So please, drop your theories in the comment section or the review section on Apple Podcasts if you're listening there.
Or on Spotify in the Q&A section.
Do you think that this was a horrible accident?
And that Diana and Christopher got rid of Madalena's body?
Do you think that Diana really smuggled her out of the country?
Is there actually a connection to the drug smuggling rumors?
And where the hell does Octavian fit into all of this?
Whatever your theory is, definitely let me know and let's get the conversation going in the comment section.
And also, conversely, if you think that I'm totally completely wrong and that Madalena is safe somewhere, I'd love to hear that too.
Because honestly, I hope that you're right.

Podcast Summary
Key Points:
Madalina Kojikari, an 11-year-old girl, vanished in November 2022 after unexcused absences from school, leaving her parents, Diana and Christopher, with a critical failure to report her disappearance within 24 hours, triggering legal consequences under Caylee’s Law.
Investigators uncovered a pattern of suspicious behavior, including inconsistent stories, financial anomalies, and signs of domestic conflict, such as burned belongings, a blocked-off kitchen room, and a strong connection to known drug smuggling networks via phone records and travel.
Both Diana and Christopher were arrested and later released after pleading guilty to failing to report Madalina missing; Christopher was found guilty in a trial that highlighted his awareness of her disappearance and efforts to conceal it, yet both walked free with minimal penalties, leaving no resolution for the child’s fate.
Summary:
FAQs
Madalina Kojikari disappeared on November 23, 2022, after being last seen getting off her school bus. Her parents, Diana and Christopher, failed to report her missing for over two weeks, leading to a criminal investigation. Despite extensive searches and evidence, including suspicious behaviors, phone records, and fire pits, Madalina is still missing and her fate remains unknown.
They were arrested under Caylee's Law, which makes it a felony for a parent or guardian to fail to report a child missing within 24 hours. The law was invoked because Diana and Christopher did not report Madalina's disappearance for over two weeks, despite knowing she was missing.
Neither admitted to knowing where Madalina was. Christopher claimed Diana took her away, and Diana denied any knowledge, stating she didn’t see her since November 23. However, both provided inconsistent stories, and evidence suggests they may have been hiding the truth.
Investigators found that the couple burned belongings, including couch cushions, in their backyard for weeks. They also made up excuses to school staff, acted unusually affectionate, and changed their stories. Additionally, Diana’s phone records showed calls to a missing Facebook group and payments to a priest in Moldova.
There is no direct evidence that Madalina was involved in drug or smuggling activities. However, investigators found links between the parents and known drug smugglers, and Diana made payments totaling $4,000 to a Moldovan priest, raising concerns about her involvement in illegal activities.
Christopher was tried for failing to report Madalina missing, not for any physical harm. He was found guilty after testimony showed he knew she was missing and instructed Diana to hide her from the school. He was sentenced to probation and released immediately.
