That Football Show 1/16: Stop Comparing Josh Allen to Patrick Mahomes

This episode of That Football Show, hosted by Chuck, Frank, and Matt on KC Sports Network, centers on the AFC divisional round, with the Bills-Broncos matchup drawing the most attention. The hosts argue that Josh Allen deserves scrutiny comparable to Patrick Mahomes, contending that Bills fans move the goalposts by citing team excuses while simultaneously placing Allen alongside Mahomes. They note that a loss to Bo Nix, whose recent passer rating and yardage numbers are poor, would be a disaster for Buffalo, while a Denver loss would confirm fraud suspicions. Despite acknowledging Denver's schematic edge in man coverage and blitzing, they pick Buffalo because of the quarterback disparity. They also predict Seattle over an injury-depleted 49ers squad, the Rams over the Bears in frigid Chicago conditions, and lean toward New England over Houston if Nico Collins cannot play. The show covers coaching news, including Mike Tomlin stepping down and John Harbaugh's massive Giants contract, and ranks offensive coordinator jobs, placing Detroit first and Kansas City low since Andy Reid retains play-calling control. They close with draft talk, criticism of a mock draft sending a safety to Kansas City, and skepticism about a Tyreek Hill reunion given his knee injury and character concerns.

Speaker 2They want to have the conversation about Josh Allen being better than Patrick Mahomes, being on the same level even as Patrick Mahomes, but they want to hold them to different standards. You can have all the excuses you want, sure, go for it, go wild. I'm not saying that they don't have excuses. There are plenty of excuses, but if he doesn't overcome those excuses, or if you want to excuse his shortcomings away as the team, you cannot put them in the same conversation. Coming up, the latest episode of That
Speaker 3Football Show, here on KC Sports Network.
Speaker 2It's That Football Show here on KC Sports Network. Chuck and Frank, I'm hanging out with Matt for your Friday Divisional Round Preview Edition of That Football Show, sponsored by our great friends, Ben Holiday. They bottled in Bond Bourbon. Always keep some on my desk in case of emergency. You never know what I'm going to need that. So, I always keep it on my desk. But Matt, I usually ask you how you're doing, but the question I actually want to ask you is, what do you think of this? You can't win a Super Bowl if your quarterback is terrible.
Speaker 4It happens, but it's extraordinarily
Speaker 2rare. We want two Super Bowls without Tyree Kill. Yeah, you know what would be a lot easier?
Speaker 4Having Tyree Kill on the goddamn offense. Two things can be true at the same time. The Chiefs are a really good team. They're really good. The Raiders are an absolute f***ing disaster. I think it pretty much encapsulates the show. So, that's well done.
Speaker 2Shout out, Claude. He did a really good job, I think, encapsulating what this program's about.
Speaker 4I like, by the way, the first part of that. I was at my parents' house, apparently. The quality of my video that day was like 1978. But the quality of the commentary was there. I hope. I hope. So, no, listen. I mean, it's a job well done by Claude. I like it. Shout out to him, like you said. And I'm sure we're going to give him plenty more clips to work with over the ensuing shows, especially with the Bills and Broncos on deck this week, which is just, I gotta say, it's kind of like Christmas a second time around, if you're a Chiefs fan, because you really can't lose. Like, no matter how this game plays out. It's hilarious. And it's just a matter of which way the hilarity falls.
Speaker 2100%. And here's the spinzo that I've had, because I've kind of wrestled with who I want to win all week. And probably if you would have asked me maybe a day ago, I probably would have said, I want the Bills to win. But what I've kind of landed on so far, I think the Bills win. But I would have been cheering for the Bills, if that makes sense. And there's been a lot of things that happened to transpire to the past 24 hours before recording this podcast. It's made me kind of change my tune in that. And we'll obviously get into that. But here's like the saving grace there is like, OK, if the Broncos win, like, I don't think they're beating Houston. I don't think they're beating New England. Like, I don't think that like they're beating either of those teams. Like, I don't I think the winner of Houston, New England probably goes to the Super Bowl. I agree. And I think that's probably the AFC championship right there. It's red hot right now, by the way. If CJ's job stops fucking around, I mean, they might Houston will shut Denver out if they plan.
Speaker 4Yeah. And yet the first time we'll not score in the game.
Speaker 2I know that some people will be I know a lot of Chiefs fans are watching this podcast. We probably don't get a lot of Broncos fans listening to this podcast, rightfully so on our track record on Bo Nix and everything like that. But you're going to get a lot of Broncos fans on the timeline telling you, well, we beat the Texans last time. Well, Davis Mills played that game.
Speaker 4Yeah. And so like that stuff does not correlate. In 2019, the Chiefs lost to the Texans and the Titans in the regular season. How'd that play out? It's like, also, if you need any proof of that, go look at the Bills and Chiefs over the last five years and how much that correlates. Okay. Um, look, if Denver loses, it's funny as hell because all year long, everybody's been like, they're frauds. They're frauds. They're not that good. If they lose this game, they're going to be the kind of frauds. Yes. A hundred percent. If you're the, if you're the number one seed and you lose in the first game that you play, that's brutal. And I know that because as a Chiefs fan, they did it multiple times. Okay. In the nineties, I'm well aware of it on the flip side. If you are Buffalo, you have Josh Allen and they have Bo Nix. If you don't win this game, that's a disaster. And I got to tell you, I have been inundated by Bills fans and people who cover the team all week long, screaming at that take saying you're, you're a Neanderthal. You're a moron. It's a team game, buddy. I understand it's a fucking team game. I get it. I understand there are 53 men actively on the roster. I got it. The worst the quarterback is on the other side, the easier it is to beat that team because that position is the most important position in the sport by a pretty wide margin. Correct. And so, look, if I put Bo Nix on the Denver Broncos, as he is, they're probably going to score, I don't know what, let's call it 20 points, 17 points, somewhere in that neighborhood. Okay. If I put Patrick Mahomes on that team, they're probably scoring more than 17 fucking points. Like just tossing out there. So it becomes harder for Josh Allen to win that game. And if you need evidence of that, go look at any time the two of them have played a playoff game. And I've had Bills fans forever with me. Well, you know, it's a defense. They can't stop them. And, you know, we just give up boys. Okay. Well, guess what? You're going to play Bo Nix this weekend. You ought to be able to stop Bo Nix. I'm thinking that's not the hardest task in the world. The Chris Oladokun Chiefs almost beat Bo Nix.
Speaker 2That's actually a great point.
Speaker 4Yes. Like the backups on the Chargers almost beat Bo Nix, like didn't give up a touchdown. I'm thinking your defense ought to be able to hold Bo Nix to under 20 points in this game. Right. And if you can't do that, then A, shame on you. B, I'm thinking Josh Allen should be able to overcome Bo Nix. And for all these people who are like, but their defense, their defense, their defense. I understand. Denver's got a very nice defense. We all get it. However, Denver's defense gave up 26 to the commanders with Marcus Mariota. Okay. 26 to the Packers, 34 to the Jags. But what's the, uh, six weeks that they played. Yes. It's not like you're playing the steel curtain in this game. Okay. Like the idea that it's just impossible. And if Allen somehow does just like, Oh my God, what an accomplishment. And I, if I ever hear one more person tell me, but they're so beat up, they don't have Tyrell Shavers, buddy, my God, he's not Jerry Rice. Like go out there and figure it out. I mean, my home's won the Superbowl a couple of years ago with Richie James and Sky Moore and Kadarius, Tony and MVS and Justin Watson. Like that was basically a sleeper cell inside the building. Okay. Actively working. Oh, they had a good defense, right? They did. You automatically have a great defense. Like go in like, God, it's unbelievable. The amount of excuses that are already being made going into this game. We'll be losers. Cause this guy, no, shut up. If you have Josh Allen, you're playing bonus. You need to win the game. Period. End of story. I don't care about anything else.
Speaker 2Quarterback wins matter until they don't matter to these people's conversation. That's what is so frustrating about everything that's kind of transpired in the last 24, 48 hours for me. It's we've talked about this for, I feel like it's been weeks. We've been talking about what, what people in, in Buffalo have been doing. Uh, it's all of Western New York seems to be moving the goalposts into like Connecticut and Rhode Island at this point, you know, like they are moving goalposts at an alarming rate. Uh, I want to shout out, uh, Kay Adams and the up at Adam show for really bringing the point and kind of echoing what we've been, we've been talking about, about like, Hey, like there really is no excuses for Josh Allen. And the bills in this point, because they're playing Bo Nix and or CJ Stroud and Drake may like, those are the other quarterbacks that you're playing at this point in the playoffs. You have no Mahomes, you have no borough, you have no Allen to go through. This should be, if you're the Buffalo bills, the expectation should be, we have to make the super bowl or it's, it's a bust. It's a blown year. If it was Patrick Mahomes, Matt, if it was Patrick Mahomes, God, imagine how like, it'd be like, well, he has to win the super bowl at this point. Like he just has to win the super bowl. And they would. And they would.
Speaker 4No one should not get out of this AFC on a good football team. Are you kidding me? Right. I mean, we watched the Chiefs suck all year. We all sat here. We're like, if they could just get in, they'll probably go to the Super Bowl. Be the seven, yeah. Listen, like, I get it, right? Like, it's a team game. Fine. But, like, so is fucking basketball. Michael Jordan wasn't out there losing to Alonzo Mourning. You know why? Because he's Michael Jordan. That's why. It's the same argument that you get with these people who are like, well, what about Mahomes? He's home for the playoffs right now. It's like, you're right. They sucked this year. He didn't play one of them. And guess what? His legacy is pretty damn secure because he's won three Super Bowls and got the five. Like, if Josh Allen did that, I wouldn't be sitting here talking about all this crap. I'd be like, hey, who cares? Like, if he doesn't win, all right, so what? Like, nobody talks about Joe Montana losing to Wade Wilson in 1987. You know why? Because he won four Super Bowls. Yeah. Nobody cares. Nobody cares. He won four Super Bowls. Like, hey, man, it's okay. Tom Brady lost to Mark Sanchez. He did. Won seven Super Bowls. Like, you kind of just get over it. Patrick Mahomes this year, the Chiefs, they didn't live up to expectations. No one's hiding that. I think it's pretty obvious. He's got a fistful of rings. It's okay. Like, I just think, like, if Allen, if they win the Super Bowl this year and go eight and nine next year, I'm not going to sit there and go, ha, fraud. Like, they won the Super Bowl. That's the whole point of playing the sport. So to sit there and say, well, it's a team game, and Allen can't help it if they have the worst defense against a run in football. Okay. Sure. He's the most important positional. He plays the most important position. He is the most important player on the team by a mile. Okay. James Cook led the league in rushing this year. Yes, he did. Right now, the line is Denver by one and a half. If James Cook walked out on the field today and got hit by his offensive lineman and broke his leg, the line would go to, like, Denver by two and a half. If the same thing happened to Josh Allen, the line would be minus ten. Okay? Right. There's a reason. He's a quarterback. Like, that's why. That's why that would happen. Okay? I promise you that, like, the excuses that are being set up for that team, if they lose, it's awful. Unlike anything I can remember, especially considering after they beat Jacksonville on a wildcard game, there were multiple big-time personalities who went on TV and were like, he is the greatest player I have ever seen. He beat Jacksonville. Right. What? Like, that guy, apparently, Bo Nix might be a bridge too far.
Speaker 2Right. Yes. No, that's the thing, is that, like, he's the greatest player, but, like, he needs a lot of help, apparently. Apparently is kind of, like, where we're at here, too. Like, let's talk about James Cook, because I think James Cook might be the most disrespected player by his own fan base. And, like, he might be, like, Offensive Player of the Year discussions, right? When you look at it, especially from scrimmage yards, he almost has 2,000 scrimmage yards this year. Like, the dude is, has been great this year. Led, like you mentioned, led the league with a career-high 1,621 rushing yards. That's a really good, that's a really good season in today's NFL in terms of, in terms of rushing. They also, you know, be upset about it. Upset about it, this is as you will, but they have the best pass defense in the NFL. It is by yards, right? Only 156.9 passing yards per game allowed by the Buffalo Bills offense. I know a lot of people point to EPA per play or some bullshit that's made up on a spreadsheet that's expected or something. I don't, who cares? They don't allow yards. That's the, that's the, that's the frank part of it. There's only one other team, Matt, that has led the league, or had the, had the number one pass defense and the leading rusher. And that was last year's Eagles. Seems pretty good. Yeah, they won the Super Bowl. So like, for people to come out here and be like, oh, to say there's no excuses in this game is like kind of far. Like I saw some people be like, whoa, whoa, whoa, no excuses. What do you mean no excuses? We're going to give you a bunch of excuses right now. But that's what's so frustrating about this is that they want to have the conversation about, about Josh Allen being better than Patrick Mahomes being on the same level, even as Patrick Mahomes, but they want to hold them to different standards. You can have all the excuses you want. Sure. Go for it. Go wild. There are plenty of excuses, but if he doesn't overcome those excuses, or if you want to, to, to excuse his, his shortcomings away from the team as the team, you cannot put them in the same conversation. You can't because I know for a fact, if the chiefs were in the same situation and they lose to Bo Nix and the Broncos in the playoffs, if they were six seed, they had to go to Denver. They lose people would lambast Patrick Mahomes. It would not matter that he was playing with two backup tackles. It would not matter that his, uh, two wide receivers don't give a shit. It wouldn't matter if he had a 37 year old tight end out there. People would be like, Oh, Patrick Holmes has to win that game. And that's the difference. That's the difference. And I think that's what fires me up so much about Bill's fans, chiefs fans here. Uh, just the standard of, of Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. They want to hold them on the same pedestal, but the standards are not, they're not the same for those two players. So it's unfair. It is unfair for Patrick Mahomes. We already know this, right? Mahomes is held to his standard to the Mahomes standard is what he's done. He's held to his best season. Mahomes. Yes. And Josh Allen cannot be held to Mahomes. No other quarterback in the NFL can be held to the Mahomes standard because they would all be, well, dog shit in comparison to put a Frank.
Speaker 4The problem that I have with the entire argument, other than the fact that it's based on complete bullshit is that when we talk about all the other great quarterbacks in NFL history, I mean, pick them. It doesn't matter who it is like Brady, it could be Montana. It could be United. It could be whoever, right, man. Peterman. Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Well, he, he's in his own tier. Um, jets tier, um, adjusted for jets. Nathan Peterman's a hall of fam. Um, yes. I had somebody asked me on Twitter. They asked me some question. They're like, what is this adjusted for jets? And I was like, yes, it's catching on.
Speaker 2I'm telling you what adjusted for jets might be one of my favorite phrases that have been like, have been. Born in this podcast.
Speaker 4We got a lot of runways to jets. We got plenty of time. Um, look, Dante Moore saw adjusted for jets. I was like, I'm staying. Okay. I don't want to be part of this,
Speaker 2which might actually, uh, short sidebar. Dante Moore going back to school might like really mess with the chiefs and what they can draft at night.
Speaker 4A little bit. A little bit. Yeah. Um, it's one pick, but yeah, right now I mentioned me now, but some other guys are gonna get pushed up in the top 10. You watch, you watch that. You watch Tyson. Simpson go third overall. Um, let's start that. Yeah. Somebody will his agent. Uh, does he have the same agent as Nagy? Cause otherwise he'll go first.
Speaker 2Let me see. I got to find who Tyson's agent is. If they need someone to do Tyson's and propaganda, I'm your guy. I got Tyson's and propaganda.
Speaker 4I called. Like, look, the historical stuff, the quarterbacks. If I ask somebody, how many years of Montana lead the league in passing yardage? They can never tell me. You never tell me. Right. How many years? How many years did he lead the league in touchdown passes? They can never tell me, you know, which by the way, the answer to that question, he never led the league in passing yardage and he led the league in passing touchdowns twice. And one time he did it with 17 in the strike short and see, okay. So yeah. Huh? Like I know that I could sit there and go on and on and on about all these things, right? Like how many Tom Brady played? What? 80 years in the NFL. Yeah, I think so. Okay. And Tom Brady, who is the all-time best player in the NFL. He's the all-time leader in completions, attempts, game started, yards, touchdowns, all this stuff. He played 23 seasons. He led the league in passing four times and led the league in touchdown passes five times. By the way, the first time he did it was a 28 different, different sport. Okay. Um, my point is that no, no one's sitting there like, hold on a minute. Yeah. Like anyone with eyes who watched Tom Brady. Throughout his career. It's like, yeah, man, that guy was the greatest player of his generation. Like, if not ever, like he's, he was, I watched that guy. That guy was incredible. Um, you know, and, and the things that you know about him are the important, how many Superbowls did he win? You know, you know, the MVPs, a lot of stuff, but like, that's the kind of stuff that you know. And that's the point I'm bringing up is with Allen and Mahomes, there is this constant like, well, Allen had more total yards one year. Okay. Great. So to James, like, that's nice. And what happened at the end of that year? Oh, we lost it. Jeez. Okay. Well, but, but it's a team game. Okay. Yeah. Great. Well, when Mahomes was busy beating them in Buffalo with MVS and Justin
Speaker 2Hartman fumbling out of the back of the end zone,
Speaker 4like we, that actually was the day he signed with the bills. He just waited a little while to shoot up for him. Like, like nobody cares about your, the amount of touchdowns. You ran in in 2023. Like it's great. Josh Allen over the last handful of years has been amazing. He's been a great player, but I would argue he's been the best highlight quarterback in the NFL. Patrick Mahomes has been the best quarterback in the NFL. And if you need proof, go ask Josh Allen, who's gone home over and over and over and over against him and has been either played evenly the 13 seconds game or out. played by him in every single time that they square at all, every time like at some point it matters that you went to the Super Bowl and you won it yeah it matters that you came up big in the biggest of spots the last two times those guys played Allen had the ball with a chance to win the game and he didn't and when Mahomes is at a chance to put the knife through their throat he's done it every time every time like at some point I don't care that Stephon Diggs dropped the pass McCall Hardman was actively playing for the Bills in that game and they did matter the 13 seconds game Butker missed two kicks in that game otherwise that's not even a problem at the end of the game right it didn't matter it didn't matter like at some point look I have the highest opinion of Josh Allen I think he's a great great player but you cannot say he's the greatest player and then also be unbelievable impressed he won in Jacksonville in a wildcard game like look he was great in that game but come on now like nobody walked away from the Chiefs beating Pittsburgh in the wildcard round five years ago like oh my god did you just see what Mahomes did the Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers
Speaker 2like well there was like a there was a Pittsburgh monkey on Casey's back there for a little bit and there
Speaker 4was and like that
Speaker 2was a big win but yes you're right 100%
Speaker 4you're right so alive who was like man greatest player I've ever seen because you beat Pittsburgh like right yeah go do like can you imagine if if Allen won the Super Bowl with the ankle sprain Mahomes had a few years ago can you imagine the the rhetoric coming off of that he might actually ascend to heaven like right then and there like just now Mahomes's year that season as great as it was his best receiver was Chuchu like and that offensive line was
Speaker 2eh, like, it's okay. Did you want to hurt knee, by the way? That's like, did he hurt his knee? Was that the year that he hurt his knee and was like still playing through it type of deal?
Speaker 4Yeah. No, that was the year of the AFC Championship game. Like Marcus Kemp was catching passes. That's right, yeah. Okay. It's just at some point, at some point, the excuse train, it just has to come to a halt. It has to stop. Like, look, if you can't win this game, I'm just kind of done with this whole thing. Yeah. I don't, and by the way, like that includes next week too. Like CJ Stroud has been pretty mediocre this year. Drake Mays has been awesome. Drake Mays is also like 20 years old. Like, go beat him. Go do it. Like, I don't, I don't care. I don't care if it's on the road. I don't care that the Gabe Davis is out. I don't care. I don't care. It doesn't matter. He's, he is a great player. There's no, now look, they get to the Super Bowl and they lose to the Rams. They lose to the Seahawks. I'll be the first one to sit here and say, hey, those are really, really, really good teams. Yeah. Especially Stafford. Like he's a great quarterback. Okay. You, if you're the Bills at a bare minimum, you better get there. If you don't get there, it's a failure. And yeah, by the way, yes. If they get there and they lose the Super Bowl, it's still a failure, but it's an understandable failure. Right. It's a complete failure. If they walk out of Denver Saturday night and Bo Nix is playing football the next weekend.
Speaker 2Yeah. I mean, Bo Nix, stinks. I mean, well, we've made, we've made our stance pretty clear on that. I was doing some pregame research on next-gen stats as I usually do. He finished 21 out of 25 qualified passers in passer rating with an 87.8. That is dog water. He has, he has, he had, wow, excuse me. I got so excited to talk about the stat. I just, my brain started going crazy. Nix has had a sub 90 passer rating in eight of his last nine games this season. And most recently, starting in week 18, his only game of the season with fewer than 200 passing yards and no touchdowns. Matt, if you remember correctly, week 18, that was against the Chargers and they sat their starters.
Speaker 4They did. They, they sat their starters and Broncos could not score an offensive touchdown. And they about, yeah, they about lost that game. Other than that, he's been great.
Speaker 2Other than that. Yeah. Miss Lincoln, how was the play?
Speaker 4Yes. Other than that, look again, we can kind of go full circle here. If you're a Chiefs fan, you cannot lose. You cannot lose this game. That's true. We've gone over the Buffalo side of this. Let's briefly go over the Denver side of this. If Denver loses this game, like we all know the obvious, like we said at the top. There's also though, a real genuine question to be had. Like this is probably their best shot with this team. Right? Like pretty confident in saying that. And if they, if they go one and done with this group here, it's pretty brutal. Like, Oh, you're in an AFC that stinks. You're a one seed. You're healthy as can be like, be pretty rough. If you lose this game at home. Right? I mean, because if you're Denver, you're going into this going, if we don't let them run the ball, we feel pretty good. Like a pretty good about Patrick Sertana, Keon Coleman, pretty good about it. Like if they lose, it's going to be because Nick's stinks. In this game. Like that's what it's going to be. And if he stinks, but I'll tell you, it's going to be a whole lot of crow being eaten in the Rocky mountains in terms of how great he actually is. I mean, there, there's actually a real human being to tweet out today who covers the Broncos who tweet out that Bo Nix is QB one and Josh Allen is QB two.
Speaker 2Is it the guy that I think it is? Yes. Okay. Yes. Yes. Of course. That's horrible. Horrible.
Speaker 4And like, I hate to be in a position to defend anybody with the bills after the last we spent, we spent what?
Speaker 225 minutes shitting all over them.
Speaker 4Yeah. Yes. And rightfully so. But to say that Bo Nix is QB one is the most disingenuous. He's barely QB one is on team. Okay. It's true.
Speaker 2I said, I'm like,
Speaker 4be better. We may find out. I, I, I think it'd be both hilarious and thoroughly entertaining. If like Denver just can't score in this game against Buffalo's defense and the bill and the Broncos are just booing. Them off the field, every possession like they were against the chargers.
Speaker 2Yeah. It's a weekly occurrence.
Speaker 4It is all on the table. It is on. It could be, could be one of the most entertaining games I've watched in a long time.
Speaker 2It could be. It really could be. Also, by the way, Broncos haven't won a playoff game since Superbowl 50. That is true. So that you got that going into it. The bills also are the fifth team in the Superbowl era to win 11 games, six straight seasons. Each of the other four teams to do it all appear to multiple Superbowls and won at least one in that span. The bills haven't appeared in the Superbowl since 1993. And I wasn't alive.
Speaker 4Yeah, I was, uh, it's the first year I watched football and I remember watching. Yeah, pretty good that year. What? Chiefs are pretty good that year. They were pretty good that year. I fell in love with the chiefs in football that year and I was five and I, to this day have a VHS tape of that ace championship game because I, my dad who never had to work on weekends had to work that day and was calling like frantically from a pay phone. Right. There was so many minutes like what's going on. What's going on. I remember being like in tears, like they're good. They're going to lose. And he was like, ah, like, you know, they'll, they'll get back. And I'm, and I remember as a kid going, they're never going to get back. I was right. Right. We're about a quarter century. I was right. Um, I'll tell you what, this is an opportunity for the bills and it's an opportunity for the Broncos and on Saturday night, it's going to be a long night for one of them. It's the first,
Speaker 2it is the first game of this playoff weekend. Uh, and it's, it's so good that that's the first game of the playoff weekend, Saturday, three 30, as you mentioned, Denver favorite by a point and a half.
Speaker 4Um, I will be chronically online after that game in a way that is unhealthy. My wife's going to be honey. The kids are like, not now. I'm on Twitter.
Speaker 2There's going to be crying. Call me to bed. Like, please just come put it down. Put the phone down.
Speaker 4Oh, you have like eight chargers ready at all times. In case I'm a court sale. Like it's not, you don't know these people. I
Speaker 2know.
Speaker 4I don't know. I'm just going to start smoking cigarettes. I don't even smoke. I don't smoke. Yeah. Yeah. It's going to smoke a whole pack of my mouth and light it up. Look like a Prairie fire. You know, this tweet now be like that meme of the guy in jaws, you know? Yeah. The nine cigarettes hanging out of my mouth. Just yeah. Yeah. Let's see. If you're watching the show, cause you're hate watching us, which I know there are probably a handful of people who knew it. By the way, welcome for being here. If you're doing that and you're a fan of one of those two teams, I highly advise if you'll lose this game to immediately mute my account on Twitter. Cause I'm telling you, I am going to be borderline. If not completely over the line, it's sufferable along with, I'm sure if I have to write about this game for a sigh, like that's my real job. And so like, I'll give you real analysis, how, but understand that I'm probably going to be writing about a game that I thoroughly enjoyed. And so if you want like my, like level headed, no bias analysis, read my SI column. That's where I'll be. Right. If you want me just absolutely having a field day, emotionally be on Twitter where I'll be just, Oh, this is even better than the chief Superbowl. It's like, here it is. Yeah. I'm living it. It's like if the Broncos and the Raiders played when I was a kid, just hilarious no matter how it shakes yeah who's your pick in
Speaker 2this game who do you think wins
Speaker 4I think the so I think the Bills are going to win the game I agree I think I'm picking the Bills in this game I'm picking them because of the quarterback disparity like it's just I will say this I think it could go either way I really do
Speaker 2I just thought of something Sean Payton is the head coach over there and Josh Allen has had some injuries and listen not beneath Sean Payton to add some incentives to a pot if you knock a guy out of a game listen both coaches
Speaker 4here there are some motivational taxes are questionable let's just leave it at that look look I think I'll put it this way I'm picking the Bills but here I'll give I'll give the people out there who I'm sure came for the the hard-hitting analysis this game and not just the absolute just dog walking of two franchises here's to me the Bills will win this game if they can run the ball somewhat effectively yeah doesn't have to be crazy just efficient right and if defensively they don't give up explosives like I don't know that the Broncos are gonna be able to piece together three 12th play drives I mean maybe they do correct but that's hard to do and that's kind of been Denver's offense all year it's just dink and dunk underneath like now ironically Buffalo kind of plays defense in a way that they'll allow you to do that but if I'm if I'm the Bills I'm like you go ahead and try and do that all game long like it's just a hard thing to do now I will now if I'm if I'm the Bills I'm saying okay try to do that we're gonna try to run the ball be efficient play the field position game you know and and win that way and let Allen you know be Superman for whatever half dozen plays right the Broncos I think win this game if the if the Bills just flat-ass can't run the ball yeah because unlike Jacksonville who like look I think even going into the game like we all knew their weakness even though they're going to win this game even though they're good defensively their weakness are their corners they do not have good corners Denver to their credit will just get in man coverage across the board against Buffalo and go after them I actually think schematically the Broncos are the advantageous team in this game like Denver can just get in man play eight in the box and say you're not running you are not running the ball you're never going to get open against our man coverage if Kincaid has a good defense if Kincaid has a decent day fine who cares nobody else is doing anything and defensively for Denver as well like Buffalo's had a hard time this year dealing with free rushers blitzers that are unaccounted for Denver blitz is a ton that like Allen you would think would be great against the blitz because most quarterbacks really thrive against it and I'm not to be clear I'm not saying he's bad against it yeah but they as an offense have struggled picking up when you blitz you know five and six guys it has been a problem for them so schematically I actually think Denver has the advantage here but then Bo Nix is involved right yeah there just comes a point you look at it and go I can't get past the fact that I'm picking Bo Nix to beat Josh Allen in this game right correct so I am taking Buffalo but I think that if if Nix plays just a little bit more just well Denver should win the game I just have no faith he's going to play well
Speaker 2I agree with that I think I think Buffalo wins the game for all the points you laid out mainly because I'm I might be Bo Nix's biggest hater
Speaker 4you're in the conversation
Speaker 2yeah I mean if not I'm up I'm top three mixed with all those Auburn fans I guess anyone who actually has to be a fan of Bo Nix is probably going to be probably a hater as well eventually probably down bad yeah so I would hate to I would hate to have to convince myself Bo Nix was good like that's that's the point where I would be at where I think that is actual actual hell so I'm going to pick Buffalo that one we got to take a break because we've gotten 35 minutes and we have only talked about one of these four games we'll make the other ones a little bit quicker but obviously this one is the most paramount of interest to Chiefs fans and really just like everyone I think it's the most interesting game yes all weekend but I think it's the most interesting game let's take a break on the other side we'll talk about the other three games also some coaching carousel stuff we got to talk about everything that's going on in the coaching side of things don't go anywhere we'll be back right after this

Speaker 6broker owner KC Local Homes and Enterprise Bank has been a great partner for us they're our partner in Possible Debbie and I hit it off immediately and she was one of the first bankers that I would say sat down with me and actually like genuinely cared about my story and where I was coming from and what I was trying to do not knowing what I was doing not just what kind of loan do you need how much equity do you have you know and she really kind of laid out my options for me and just made the process make sense and I felt comfortable with it start to talk about it and think about it a building popped up that I wanted that I could afford and it was in a great area and so they really guided me through the SBA I used the SBA loan to acquire it and really guided me through that process and made it happen I think that we talk about that a lot where we wouldn't have a business we wouldn't have what we have here if we didn't have the clientele that we do I've always been a client I've always functioned out of a people over profits mentality the houses sell themselves right like I'm here to help people and facilitate the transaction for them Hey what's happening people

Speaker 2Matt I actually think when I look at this I think the AFC games are going to be a lot better than the NFC games are I think there's I think there's a real possibility both the NFC games and the DraftKings sportsbook games aren't close
Speaker 4true I think the easiest game to pick this week is Seattle being the Niners yes I yeah no it's the Niners but like they're beat to hell um eventually they gotta run out of gas right like that eventually feels like this week might be that time yeah like feels like that's kind of coming Seattle's just a much better team at this point um the Rams game listen I'm covering that game and here's the one thing about that game have you looked at the weather for that thing this would be this would be cold right like as Michael Irvin would say when we when we were cold we were cold all right back when we was cold it was cold um it is going to be two degrees with wind of sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles an hour with gusts up to 40 off that lake too oof let me tell you something that might be the great equalizer in this game as the Rams are like huddling for warmth okay I got I think the Rams will win but if there was ever a night where you'd be like man that is not what the Rams wanted it's that that is going to be brutal man like I think the Bears are going to be in this game to the end I do I don't think they're going to win I'm picking the Rams but I think that if the weather was great I'd pick the Rams to win by like two touchdowns but it's not I think this is going to be very very very close
Speaker 2Rams favorite by three and a half on the road uh going to chicago in this one it's gonna be it's gonna be an interesting one yeah uh the weather i knew there was gonna be cold i didn't know no snow right no calm for snow uh flurries flurries gotcha uh but like here's the thing and and i had been a i'd been a pretty a bit of bears hater because i just didn't think that they were good and like i thought ben johnson was gimmicky i think we talked about this on the last podcast and and i liked caleb williams but the expectations but on caleb williams were holistically unrealistic um when talking about being the next patrick mahomes like that's not fair for for caleb williams to have that on him and he doesn't play anywhere like patrick mahomes
Speaker 8so it's like i can't have it
Speaker 2on him it's very true it's not fair for john so i i think that the the way that they won that game against the packers kind of uh maybe flipped my perspective on the team because i just thought that they were a lot like the broncos kind of like a fraudulent team but right a little bit worse of a defense than the broncos have right the broncos have a much better defense um but the way that caleb williams played and they kind of uh fought back and schematically they did some some pretty cool stuff that i didn't necessarily think was gimmicky at that point but uh i think i've my my tone has flipped on on the bears uh team moving forward but i still think the rams are the better football team here i do think that they end up pulling it out and and winning it's going to depend on uh that weather and they got to take care of the football the rams do but um it's it's going to be an interesting one because that bears team is going to play all four quarters we know that we know that's going to be a four-quarter football game we know they'll play the fourth quarter whether or
Speaker 4not they'll play the first three that's a good point yeah yeah that's
Speaker 2a good point it's going to be a one-quarter football game and that one quarter is going to be the fourth quarter um that's what that's what it'll be but i think it's i think it's rams i think it's uh the seahawks i just again to echo your point i think the niners just gonna run out of gas like i think this might be the week what's really interesting about that game though um i've been looking at some like the next gen insights from it um brock purdy is four and oh against the the niners on the road or against the against the seahawks yeah sorry uh and i thought that that was uh quite a quite uh interesting from uh from brock purdy
Speaker 4but yeah um but i i just this is uh this feels like a different level of this game this feels like a very very tough game for the niners so i here's the
Speaker 2other thing too you don't hear niners fans coming out there and making all these injury excuses for brock purdy by the
Speaker 4way oh there's no you play a check yeah yeah you know nobody's nobody's making excuses for my home he was on half of a leg in 2022 no he was injured before making excuses for him yeah i remember like when he had like the pressure before the cincinnati game people were like staring at his ankle when he walked down the steps to be like how how fucked up is he yeah it was like i remember like all week that people like are you is he gonna play i'm like are you kidding me is he gonna play yeah come on now stop it and then joseph osiris like i'll hit him nine yards out of bounds and off the super bowl the chief went bagels fans still complain about that call it's baffling to me he had three feet in the paint that that's like arguing if a guy gets hit with a pitch like in the neck and the down you're like i don't think it hit him right yeah but i gotta tell you you see i got riding on the ground with a with a baseball imprint on his neck it hit him joseph osiris was so far out of bounds he had like a solid second and a half to pull up it's like that's all right and then just trucked him sorry bro um i remember after that game like bangles players just like screaming at him on the way to the locker room it was tough times yeah um that's his patriots where you see hawks and rams should win and then the afc the other afc game right is really interesting because i don't nico collins is gonna
Speaker 2play right because he had the concussion and the second half or was it second end of yeah second half i couldn't
Speaker 4remember the timing but uh third quarter he got hurt they have no offense but they might give up negative points like if there's a defensive figures out how to win zero to negative three it might be houston yeah anything unbelievable down the stretch the steelers could have played three games and not scored 10 points it was humble it was unreal how dominant they were so i am picking new england from the standpoint that if collins doesn't play i don't know how houston's gonna score and may is really good and i could see them winning this game like 16 to 10. but boy they better come with it because that houston defense is nasty that is one of the best defenses i've seen in the last 25 years that that defense is awesome it is it is a really good
Speaker 2defense um i i was trying to find this stat and i i don't know if i can if i can find it but it's something that like cj stratus had like six defensive touchdowns in his like playoff games like they like the texas defense has scored six touchdowns for him in his uh that's incredible and yeah i don't know if i can find it but it's something that like cj stratus had like six
Speaker 4last week they had the game against the chargers they had to pick six i don't know if they had any other ones but the
Speaker 2fact that cj stratus has gotten that much help when he's been so it's not nothing he he has kind of been a terrorist for them i mean it's not a great year three uh three fumbles right in the in the game against uh yes against all reason pittsburgh scored a point you yeah dude that's that team was so dog water and we knew that going in there are you taking who are you taking in this game the patriots and i think i think it could be either way but i'll take the one i was about to talk about tom in there for a second i realized we didn't we didn't talk about who we do uh i'm gonna go i'm gonna go houston just because of the defense and i think that defense is so white hot right now but you make a really good point about like is cj star going to actively try to sabotage what's going on there's a good chance he does right and not on purpose but just incompetence and he's got to play just like don't turn the ball over and i think that the the texans can win but that's been a problem recently uh for him so um yeah i think that's the first pick we've gone the opposite on so we'll see yeah you know it'll
Speaker 4be interesting i'm very i'm very much looking forward to that game i'll be at bears ram so i'll be watching the texans pass game from the press box good um i don't know where the hell i'm gonna be
Speaker 2next weekend well we'll either be in denver houston or doing something i guess or we
Speaker 4overrun the nfc teams i mean chicago by some miracle and there oh it's true um there's
Speaker 2a two-seat right chicago is yes yeah if they win they're hosting right or no i guess well no yeah i forgot seattle's one state yeah that would
Speaker 4tell me but uh denver probably i mean denver's not a long flight from here so probably denver um yeah hey i mean we'll see we'll see if it's chicago for the second weekend in a row and usually when i go to a playoff i'm going to harrowhead um but yeah that didn't work out this
Speaker 2year the only time
Speaker 4we're going the only time with harrowhead this year is when they played washington everybody was like man this is unbelievable they're back and then that's it half they were really good yeah for the second half
Speaker 2i remember we went to we went to uh to joe's to to have lunch before that game and we actually saw f commanders fans there and they said what are you doing here man couldn't believe it it's crazy didn't never seen one in the wild yeah um
Speaker 4there's only five of them it's pretty it's pretty rare
Speaker 2let's talk coaching carousel because mike tomlin i think after we recorded the podcast this tuesday mike tomlin officially stepped down uh that's the phrasing that's the verbiage that they're going with is mike tomlin stepping down he's going to take the year off from understanding and it's uh i think it was part of it was a family decision as well um is what he said his uh his statement but just kind of felt like it was time uh for some change there so the steelers now become the ninth head coach opening we also got a opening filled uh as of this morning when we're recording this podcast john harbaugh is the next new york giants head coach five year hundred million dollar contract harbaugh that is not nothing um if you're getting that much money he's probably gonna have a lot of control over what happens in that organization there's a lot of interesting pieces that they have on that offense for uh for harbaugh and i think it's believed that munkin is going to follow him from okay they did okay i didn't see that officially come through um so does matt nagy get more than 500 i mean based on the pr campaign i mean maybe
Speaker 4if his agent is hoping for that payday no that agent he's begging for that three percent um you know managed to get six percent based on what's going on um and it's true yeah you know what listen i think it's the best job in the cycle the giants job i really oh other thing other than other than the ravens because the ravens is different because of lamar like that i put it it's an own category yeah yeah um here's why i like the giants job a lot i know that ownership wants to win i know they've sucked but they want to win and they're willing to invest in the team sir and they've won super bowls like they they know how to win it's not like some franchise like it's not woody freaking johnson who's out to lunch okay and like looking at like mad and ratings trying to figure out what creation looks like. God, adjusted for jets. even do that justice there is no adjustment to be made for that um i like jackson's art he's got to stay healthy but i think he's really talented i love their backfield tracy's a good back they got scataboo like it's not unless they don't like chiquan barkley as they should but whatever okay they have a franchise left tackle on andrew thomas they've got a number one receiver in neighbors and wandell robinson's really nice number two receiver assuming they bring him back assuming they bring him back defensively it's one of the best front lines in the nfl good defensive front yes like that's a lot man and by the way you have a ton of cap space and you have top five pick in the draft you can do a hell of a lot worse than that
Speaker 2it's fair that's fair i i don't know if i necessarily viewed it the same way at the giants job but then like i guess compared to all the other ones i wouldn't go to the cardinals i wouldn't probably go to the falcons either that seems like a tough place to win probably not the titans either and like roster wise i think that it probably is i mean obviously outside of baltimore as you mentioned roster wise it might be in terms of young cost-controlled talent you're in a pretty darn good spot there yeah when it comes to it and i don't know i we talked about a little bit pre-podcast if joe shane joe shane joe shane's gone i think that that makes it a whole lot better like i think that makes it a more attractive position but like i don't know if he's necessarily show the propensity to uh do a good job yes that's what i was looking for um man that mid-season hard knocks that they did realize that or the off-season hard knocks that they did never gonna do it again because man did he look like he was just dumb when his son's just like yeah just pick just trade up for uh for for a quarterback he's like no we can't we got
Speaker 4daniel jones uh yeah yeah uh jane joe shane gotta say don't think he's earned that job security no and
Speaker 2like if i'm horrible i would probably want the gm and myself to be on the same page right and and i'd like the gym to be competent yeah i'd like the gym to do it i have a i have a really funny joe shane story can i tell it yes of course i don't know if i've told you this story so it's about a year ago actually with joe shane i uh was walking around the east west triangle they're at north texas they're at the the indoor training facility there they were having the practices i was walking around there and you usually you have a lot of uh nfl head coaches around there um dable was there and i can brian dable and i kept like running into each other and so like to a point where i was just like how you doing and yeah like hey how you doing and he'd be like hey what's going on we just you know eventually i'll get invited over to his house for dinner i'm sure but like it's it's yeah it's the the head nod we're we're down head nods not up head nods you know um which is like hey how are you so i haven't i've been kept running into to brian dable this whole time and then uh missouri head coach eli drink which was there and drink which and i have talked a little bit and you know he was talking to to dable about you know some of the guys that are there for for uh at the east west triangle who should be looking out for and you know i'm not sure if i'm going to be able to do that but i'm going to be able to do that i think he told him about luther burden i actually think that's a funny story too is is dable asked drink what's who he has in the draft and he's like uh luther burden you heard of that guy uh brian dable oh no i didn't know about that's a burden um crazy by the way and and then so i eric galka who's the director of the east west triangle texted me he's like hey we have a hot dog cart outside i figured you'd like to know that and i was like uh yeah i would like to know that actually i'm gonna go get some hot dogs so i go i get two hot dogs and i bring them back to my house and i'm like oh my god i'm gonna go get some hot dogs and i bring them back to the practice field i'm holding two hot dogs in my hand dable and drink which i walked through the door from outside coming back in i'm holding two hot dogs in my hand trying to walk back to the spot where everybody else is we're back with uh like maddie kent and craig and i see in front of me as i'm walking down like the sideline to my left is uh eli drink which brian dable i'm walking towards joe shane who is also walking at me right so like we're walking to each other dable uh says like oh eli this is our general manager joe shane and i am in between brian dable and joe shane with two hot dogs in my hand and we're doing the old like oh i'll go this way but he also goes the same way yeah it was one of those like oh oh oh so in the middle of eli drink what's meeting joe shane was me holding two hot dogs trying to walk back uh to the group and um i'll always remember that about joe shane is that me awkward interaction with him do-si-do-ing as he's trying to meet eli drinkwits as i'm in between brian dable and joe nice yeah
Speaker 4nice it's well done by you um you know brian dable's got more time on his fantasy station may you get that dinner in yeah right yeah maybe we'll see him in indy you know maybe maybe we can uh we can hit him up in indy also we're gonna see a lot of people on indy um maybe too many oh yeah yeah okay four days in indy i start seeing the same i remember one time i was in indianapolis i was walking to a bar and uh there's like nobody on the street and there's one guy walking toward me and as i'm getting closer and closer i'm like this can't be who i think it is and it's it's spagnola like hey man what's up what's going on and then like just like super happy cat i just kept walking like he was going to clearly going with dinner right yeah and i was just going to get drunk um but uh you know which is in indianapolis it's pretty much what you do for your job um it has to yeah yeah you should keep yourself under control but it's it's mostly like you have like you go to the bar and i guess i should actually be where i could it's not so much getting drunk because if you get drunk then you're you're failing but it's more like you're just constantly with the drink in your hand from about nine o'clock at night to four o'clock in the morning so it's about pacing yourself so you don't have to face down on like the steak and shake floor at 3 a.m yeah i'll tell you right now i have seen that happen to people literally that exact thing and sort of
Speaker 2steak and shake by the
Speaker 4way indianapolis indiana i've seen it happen it's not good um by the way lastly uh saw on twitter this morning tyree kill said in a quote tweet to ryan fitzpatrick ryan fitzpatrick put out uh while we're putting in requests i would like the opportunity to become sexiest van alive yes all that and tyree kill quote tweeted said since we are putting in requests i want to go home um i look everything's up for interpretation in life but i don't think it takes a ton of reading between the leaves the deal leaves to infer what that might be about let me let me ask you okay if you're the chief would you sign him there's a lot to consider with this because he also does not have the cleanest off field uh i was
Speaker 2about to say how many guys how many guys in your wide receiver room do you want to have questionable character at the same time usually they mean they usually just kept one right for good measure uh can you get two maybe three you know
Speaker 4because i mean i mean it if you're bread beads do you sleep at all oh my god are you just like you're staring at your phone every night at three o'clock in the morning like please god don't light up yeah well you know and of course tyreek is coming off of a major injury yes he is like would you sign him or would you like him and the memories were awesome but like i'm not going down that road i think it depends on the money i usually does yeah it usually does i i don't
Speaker 2think you can sign him for like what he's making now right like i wouldn't feel great about that like that would actually make me a little
Speaker 4bit upset so you got one year and eight million
Speaker 2bucks yeah i'd do that for the thought of tyreek hill in this offense again yeah he's not gonna be the same right because that knee injury was brutal but it was me right there's a knee injury not ankle i think he's
Speaker 4like leg snapped in half yeah it
Speaker 2wasn't good it was a lower body injury we'll call we'll hockey a little body injury
Speaker 4um it was not good it was it was pretty yeah the fact he was
Speaker 2cheering after too which
Speaker 4was why yeah well he knew it was the dolphins guy season ending knee injury week four knee dislocation multiple torn ligaments including his asia oh is he i don't even know if he'll play next year it's like that's a lot that is a lot that is a lot um it's a so i mean it's something to just kind of consider i don't my answer to the question by the way is the only way i would do it is if mahomes is like you need to bring him back yeah like that i mean you know but i i'm gonna be i probably would not bring him back like the nostalgic part of me as far as like just the football perspective of it i mean he was unbelievable but the idea of him and rishi rice hanging out outside of the facility is yeah
Speaker 2that doesn't that's not great that's not good like
Speaker 4I'm not even trying to be funny. I genuinely like those two guys hitting the club is horrifying beyond belief. You know, I just, I need to do the cheese. You need to, you need to really, I think this offseason for Kansas City, whether it's free agents or the draft, you need to weigh character a lot more heavily than you have in the last few years. I agree with that. They have gotten away from it. They have just been like, well, whatever. This guy's, I mean, a man who was suspended immediately when he got there for a domestic situation. You know, we all know about Rasheed Rice. There were, no, there were allegations. Nothing came of him. David Worthy, there were allegations against him. You know, Kareem Hunt, we know that whole situation. Okay, Willie Gate took a vacuum cleaner and turned it into like a discus event through the wall. I could go on. And they brought in Damon Arnett. Let us never forget that.
Speaker 2Justin Ross, by the way, had something too.
Speaker 4Justin Ross, DeAndre Baker. Remember him? Like, they have just, now Josh Simmons doesn't have like legal issues, but Josh Simmons, like there was a whole bunch of concerns about him coming out of the draft. Sure, yeah. They have just, it's been a who's who of like, hey, like, let's bring in this guy and cross our fingers. I think when they're thinking about who they're signing, who they're drafting, that has to be a serious consideration.
Speaker 2I'm not going to disagree with you on that.

Speaker 2Let's do a quick power ranking, Matt. Sure. Before we get out of here. I want to power rank. No? Okay. No. Cocaine. Four. No. That's for June. That's for June. That's for June. Yeah. We'll say that one for June. The names for hardcore drugs. Go ahead. Yes. I want to power rank offensive coordinator openings. Can we do that? Because there are some. Chiefs obviously not official open right now, but we'll throw the Chiefs in there, right? It is open. Eagles, Lions, Bucks, Chargers, Raiders, Chiefs.
Speaker 4Eagles, Lions, Bucks, Chargers.
Speaker 2Raiders, okay. How are top five, I guess it would, because there's going to be, what is this? Is that six openings? Yeah. So you're going to leave one out. Okay. We're leaving off the Raiders
Speaker 4because there's no one alive who's taking the Raiders.
Speaker 2Yeah. Yeah. Either that or the Eagles, and you have to work for Nick Sirianni. That would suck ass.
Speaker 4Woof. Man goes through offensive coordinator. Sorry, I went through girlfriends in high school.
Speaker 2I mean, it's quite, it's astonishing. Here's a, here's a good question, Matt. What is Nick Sirianni good at? What was he? Yelling. Maybe, so hand up. Maybe this is me not being a, being the ball knower I should. I don't know what Nick Sirianni's job was before he was the head coach of the, of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 4Was he a defensive guy, offensive guy? He was an offensive guy. Nick Sirianni, former Chiefs great, by the way.
Speaker 2Yeah, he was. I did know he was with the Chiefs.
Speaker 4He was the OC for the Colts for three years. When they were terrible. Yeah. He was their offensive coordinator when the Chiefs knocked him out of the playoffs. That'd be 18 to 20. Yeah. Yeah. So he wouldn't have Andrew Love. Chargers for five years. It was just a coach. Quarterback coach. Four years before that. You know, I got to say, you know, no wonder Nick Sirianni is so angry all the time. He was a Chiefs assistant coach from 09 to 12. That, that'd just take it out on anybody.
Speaker 2That is horrid. He was offensive quality control in 09, assistant quarterbacks coach in 10, offensive quality control in 11. They said, actually, you're not quarterbacks anymore. Go back to offensive quality control. And then went to wide receivers in 12.
Speaker 4Oof. That's brutal. Not good. Not good. So, yeah, I mean, look, if I had the, if I had the power ranking, I'm going to put the Chiefs at five because the offensive coordinator with the Chiefs just doesn't get to, like, do anything.
Speaker 2See? That's kind of my thought process, too. I think the Eagles is probably worse because of the Sirianni factor, right? But. I would have had them four. All right. Hang on. Let me, let me get this up so I can make a nice graphic and we can get.
Speaker 4Oh, I look forward to being screened at by every Chiefs fan. Like, how could you say five? Because you didn't call the plays.
Speaker 2Like. Yeah. Yeah, no, no, no. That's, that's 100% why.
Speaker 4Like. Like. Like, if that guy had agency, yeah, he'd do the number one job in the league.
Speaker 2I mean, yeah, there's, there's one reason that this is a good offensive coordinator job and it's Patrick Obama Holmes. Like, that's the one reason it's a good job. And. Imagine if they bring him back and I have to do a breaking news team about them bringing back Isaiah Pacheco,
Speaker 4I might. Dude, if they do, I'm coming on. And we're going to, we're going to do some things that are going to get us fired. Yeah. Yeah. Multiple jobs are going to let me go.
Speaker 2Oh, God. Multiple jobs. Yeah. So you're not even putting the Raiders on this list and your five is, five is Chiefs. Oh, God. Yeah. Your four, you said, is Eagles? Yes. Okay. I think, I think I'm flipping mine. I think I'm going Eagles five. I'm going Chiefs four. Three for you.
Speaker 4All right. So it's between the Bucks, the Lions, and the Chargers. Chargers for me is three.
Speaker 2You have a lot of talent with the Chargers. I do kind of like that one. A lot of talent. You have a good quarterback. Justin Herbert probably is the better quarterback out of, you know, the ones left of Jared Goff and Baker Mayfield. So, like, you do have that attractiveness of it, but it's the Chargers.
Speaker 4It's just like, I feel like Harbaugh, not to the extent of Andy, but Harbaugh is going to basically tell any offensive coordinator he has, I want to run 50 times a game. Yeah. All right. Well, great. Also, like, the point is to win playoff games. And I have Justin Herbert. True. Yeah. I also play 18 or 17 road games every year.
Speaker 2Yeah. The more I think about how bad the Raiders job is, it's awful. You don't have a quarterback. You don't have anything. You have Brock Bowers and no wide receivers and maybe the shittiest offensive line I've ever seen put together in my life.
Speaker 4Yeah. That is horrible. You have to be rushing for three hours to carry into that team. Plus, I'm in that division. Have fun with that.
Speaker 2Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think I'm going to. Hmm. I think Chargers is a bit more attractive than. But then you have to factor. You're trying to factor in health at the same time. I think Chargers is a bit more attractive. I'm probably going to go Lions just because of, like, I'm kind of unmoved by Jared Goff. And I do see the attractiveness, obviously, of, like, Dan Campbell and that coaching staff, that culture, everything like that. But again, Dan Campbell took over play calling. And, like, you had that whole. thing going on there with that. But Jared Goff doesn't really move me. I probably am bumping up the Chargers a little bit higher than I should to with just in terms of quality of quarterback and all that. But Lions at three for me. And I'm going to go Chargers at two. So who's your two? Snake draft. Box. Box. Yeah. The box.
Speaker 4Look, the division's a joke. I am going to run the offense completely because of Bowles being the head coach. Yeah. I've got a million weapons to work with. Yeah. I've got a Hall of Fame left tackle in a prime's career. And I think Baker's good. So, like, I feel pretty good about that situation. I think that's a pretty good job to land that.
Speaker 2I think that's. It's my number one job, the Bucs is. Because of the full control that you get, you get the autonomy. And I think. I truthfully think that they have some pretty decent weapons. I know the running backs are up for. for free agency. I think Baker's a pretty. a pretty good quarterback. Their offensive line was looking to be pretty good before the injuries kind of decimated them. I like Abuka. I think they did. I think Sean Tucker's been really good for them. I think they've got some good stuff. Bucky Irving, too. Like, I think they have got some good stuff, some good tools. And it's a franchise, too, that I kind of. I trust a little bit. But I got. I got Bucs at one for me. So your number one's Lions. My number one is. is Lions, yes.
Speaker 4I think. Look. You just have so much talent. Like, you have Gibbs in the backfield. Sure. Yeah, yeah. You've got. Weapons all over the place. Again, another coach who's pretty much going to get out of your way, other than on fourth down when he runs over and suplexes the punter so they can go for it on fourth and 15. Goff is fine. I don't love that I feel like the offensive line is not what it was a couple years ago. Sure, yeah. But I love the tight end. I love the receivers. I love the backs. You're indoors. You don't have to deal with the elements. If you can't score points with that group, you ought to give it up. So I'll say them one. I thought about them in the box and swapping them, but I'll say them one.
Speaker 2Good. We got a nice little power ranking traffic to go out, and I'm sure people will love how low we have the Chiefs on that because, again, that might be something. I think we talked about it. How really attractive is the Chiefs offensive coordinator position when you look at the holistic franchise of the Chiefs and how it's run and how it's operated? I don't know why a Mike McDaniel would come to Kansas City. I don't know why a Cliff Kingsbury would want to come. I don't know why a guy who wants to be a head coach again wants to come to Kansas City.
Speaker 4And they won't because they have no ability to call play. Like, the enemy would go back there because it's a promotion. Sure, yeah. You have to go back there because he's jobless. And listen, I mean, I'll leave my thoughts at this. I don't think. I am in the minority, I think, with Chiefs fans on this one. That's fine. I'll be there. I do not think it's a bad thing if the Chiefs bring back the enemy or even if they bring back Kafka. But here's the rub with this. It doesn't matter who they bring in if Andy doesn't fix the scheme because it's Andy's scheme. And if they hired Mike McDaniel, it's going to be Andy's scheme. Like, that's what it's going to be. And I'm fine with that. Andy Reid's one of the greatest offensive coaches ever. But he's got to freshen up his scheme. And, like, so to me, I am a little different in this. I'm looking at the offensive coordinator role as somebody who I believe is going to be detailed, who's going to demand some accountability, who's going to force them to play their best. And, like, to me, the enemy is that guy. Like, the enemy will make them be accountable for their errors in a way that I don't think that I ever even approached doing. But I understand. And also, too, look, if Kafka comes in, in years for Dable, like, bring some stuff over. You know? I mean, I would hope that the enemy could explain the run game that Ben Johnson's got. I'd really hope so, right? Like, can he install that in Kansas City? Like, why can't he? So I feel all those ways. And I also just feel like, in the end, while I think this is a very important hire, I also feel like if Andy doesn't freshen the scheme up, none of it matters. And if he does, they'll be good anyway. So I will say. Of course, this is about Andy.
Speaker 2Yeah, 100%. And I will say this. We've been kind of down on where the Chiefs are at in terms of, like, schematics and everything, especially when you look at the last couple years of how the offense has been. I will say Andy Reid has shown the propensity to change in the past. And I think now with a losing season and there's some sense of urgency now and actually having ramifications for his actions, for having consequences that he actually has to face, you would think, one would presume, logically estimate that changes are coming, schematically. Yes. We'll see if that actually happens, but yes. If they don't, if those things don't happen. That's a bigger conversation.
Speaker 4A, it's a bigger conversation. B, I am of the opinion if that does not, he'll be fired. Like, I firmly believe that. If they go through another year or next year where they're 8-9, and this offense is the slog that it was the last half of this season, I think they're looking for a new head coach.
Speaker 2Do you think Clark Hunt will pay two head coaches at the same time?
Speaker 4He's done it before.
Speaker 2Yeah, a lot of different situations for that.
Speaker 4It was, and I get it. I just think at some point, man, like, you cannot waste, any years of Mahomes. 100%. No, I'm right there with you, yeah. You know, look, I don't want to say I'm giving him a pass, but like, because of the immense, unbelievable amount of success that they've had, this past year, if it's a one-off, and they're 13-4 next year, you can just kind of write it off. So it was just a year from hell. You get one. Like, it happened. Is this team's like, one and done the playoffs next year, or like, don't make the playoffs? And it's because your offense just sucks?
Speaker 2Yeah. That's not acceptable.
Speaker 4Come on, man. I mean, what are you going to do? Watch Andy just like, wither away the prime of this guy on the sideline? Because Andy doesn't want to ever put in like, a man-beating concept ever? I mean, what are we doing? So, maybe also in the minority, I do believe he will fix the scheme this offseason. Yeah. I just don't want him to do it. Yeah, exactly. That's the thing. People treat, Andy Reid went from being a genius in Kansas City to people after one year treating him like he's the biggest moron on earth. Like, there's just no possible way that Andy Reid can figure out how to scheme up an offense. He's just an old man and it's passed him by. It's like, guys, I mean, come on. Like, he's done this multiple times and fixed this offense. It all said it takes off. And also too, look, we got a lot of time for the draft. We'll get into all of it. Like, there might be three receivers worth taking at number nine. Do you take one of them? You know, like, I just saw the athletics latest mock that has the Chiefs taking a safety, which, let me tell you something.
Speaker 2Which, with wide receiver one and like defensive end one still on the border.
Speaker 4Nothing against Caleb Downs. If the Chiefs take, if they take Caleb Downs and nine over, I am going to have a borderline aneurysm.
Speaker 2That's a Kyle Hamilton pick.
Speaker 4Love Kyle Hamilton. I got to tell you, Chiefs don't need Kyle Hamilton. They need a pass rush and they need weapons on offense. That's what they need. If the Chiefs could take a carnal Tate and they take Caleb Downs, I am going to be in arrhythmia. So just, you know, just know that that's how I feel about that.
Speaker 2Boy, that podcast will be sunk to us.
Speaker 4That happens. I will lose my mind.
Speaker 2Yeah. Matty Lane quote tweeted it and said, wide receiver one, defensive end one and defensive two were all available at that mock draft and the Chiefs were taking safety.
Speaker 4I, not to cross promote here. I had Matt Lane on my podcast, the one up on Thursday morning and we broke down the draft and yeah, Matt, Matt is very high on, on some of the edge rushers and the receivers and he's, he's, I won't spoil for someone who wants to watch it. He's super high on, on one receiver that I think is interesting and I think would be a really good fit for the Chiefs. I also think, uh, yeah, I'll, I'll leave a little carrot because of some measurables. I think some Chiefs fans would have a mental breakdown, but I think would be a really interesting fit on the team.
Speaker 2I'm excited. Uh, I think that's going to do it. I only, there's only a couple of other headlines I had on there. Adam Thielen retiring and Rogers is probably going to do the will. He won't. He thing again. Um, she will.
Speaker 4He wants a little bit more press.
Speaker 2Yeah. And I also have note that I written down. I think Steven Biscotti is awesome. I had to, I think that dude's fucking hilarious. He needs to do more of those things. What the hell? Would he still have his job? Yeah. For another week. God, like it was his first press conference in seven years. Is that right?
Speaker 4Yeah. It doesn't speak.
Speaker 2I kind of impressive truthfully, but like when he does as banger after banger, dude, he was, and he was like out here being like, what? My top, my Thomas stepped away. What the heck? He's like, live reacting is awesome.
Speaker 4If I owned an NFL team, I would do impromptu pressers like five times a month of me just going up to the mic and just yelling about something. It's a good thing. I don't know. I think. Yeah.
Speaker 2Lots of, lots of good football on this week. And as we mentioned, uh, we talked about obviously all of the, uh, layoff games, but also you have the national championship on Monday too. So, I mean, um, big games coming up. So, uh, we mentioned also at the, uh, when we were power ranking chiefs, offensive coordinator position, not officially open yet. Andy Reed mentioned that like in-person interviews in one of his press conferences is like a little, uh, a little like a one-off that he had, he, that he said is like, they don't start until the 19th, the January 19th, which will be next Monday. Um, for the chiefs. So I assume like that's when contracts, run through if you're making inferences. Right. So Matt Nagy might be under contract until January 19th. Right. Like that might be the day that, uh, that position becomes open or available or he gets hired elsewhere. Right. Or he just like the Titans are just like, yeah, Matt Nagy is our head coach because they just interviewed Mike McCarthy and said, you know what? Actually, we're just going to call it Matt Nagy. Uh, so we'll see how that all goes. And I want there to be like a fight over who gets to hire an Aggie. There shouldn't be, but like there, but I would love a fight over it. There should not be a fight.
Speaker 4It should be Kansas city frantically calling up all franchises. Me like, who, who, who, who are we setting the jet to? Where's he going?
Speaker 2Like, did he, did he, uh, interview with Arizona? I think so. I also have no clue who's like in the running for Arizona. Again, like we talked about this, - Yeah, we talked about that one, like, one of these podcasts arizona's like one of those teams that like as a blind spot for me he's like i forget about the cardinals a lot i forget about them i feel
Speaker 4like we're gonna get to the draft and like what pick do they have like third right third pick yeah i mean they're up there yeah like they're gonna go to like the war room camera and it's just gonna be like the lights out nobody in there they forgot the draft is started oh shit oh fuck like somebody get in there have like a janitor making the pick you know nobody can get into the facility on time they just r bell reese r bell reese auto pick who's who's first who's who's available oh god i remember as a kid when the vikings like just didn't pick for like multiple spots yeah that was incredible bell kuiper jr was like having a heart attack on air yep they went to the vikings and the whole clock ran out they just sat there he's and i was true that's so good all right i think it's gonna

Podcast Summary

Key Points:

  1. The podcast debates whether Josh Allen can be considered on Patrick Mahomes' level, arguing that Allen is held to a different standard and that excuses cannot coexist with that comparison.
  2. The hosts preview the Bills-Broncos divisional game, noting that a Bills loss to Bo Nix would be a disaster while a Broncos loss would expose them as frauds.
  3. Bo Nix's poor statistics, including a sub-90 passer rating in eight of his last nine games, lead the hosts to pick Buffalo despite Denver's schematic advantages.
  4. The hosts predict Seattle over a banged-up 49ers team and pick the Rams over the Bears, though brutal Chicago weather could keep that game close.
  5. They split on Texans-Patriots, with the Houston defense praised as historically dominant but CJ Stroud's turnover issues causing concern.
  6. Mike Tomlin stepped down from the Steelers, creating a ninth head coaching vacancy, while John Harbaugh was hired by the Giants on a five-year, $100 million deal.
  7. The hosts rank offensive coordinator openings, placing the Lions first and the Chiefs low because Andy Reid controls the scheme and play calling.
  8. Tyreek Hill's social media post fueled speculation about a Chiefs return, but the hosts are wary given his severe knee injury and off-field concerns.
