TERRIFYING Sleep Paralysis Stories || Scary Reddit Stories || Ghosteas || Paranormal Podcast

The podcast episode explores the intersection of sleep paralysis and paranormal phenomena, with hosts Macy and Natalie reading and discussing several Reddit stories from listeners. They acknowledge that sleep paralysis isn’t always supernatural but note that some cases, especially those occurring in potentially haunted homes or alongside other unexplained events, suggest a possible spiritual dimension. The stories vary widely: one involves a faceless, hooded creature resembling a dementor; another describes a shared hallucination of a tall, melted-faced woman in a green polka-dot shirt, experienced simultaneously by two friends in an old hotel on Halloween. A particularly unsettling account details a person enduring repeated, painful nightmares with no control, feeling stabbed, choked, and burned, while another describes a creature mimicking the narrator’s girlfriend during an out-of-body experience. The hosts also discuss practical aspects, such as the tendency for episodes to occur when sleeping on one’s back and the use of mirrors as potential portals. They highlight a recurring theme of feeling trapped in dream-within-a-dream loops, where waking up doesn’t provide relief. The episode concludes with a story where the narrator successfully fights back against a shadowy figure by focusing on moving their fingers, causing the entity to lose control—a moment the hosts frame as empowering. Overall, the discussion balances skepticism with openness to the paranormal, offering both fear and a sense of agency for those who experience sleep paralysis.

Hi, Ghosties. I'm Macy, and I'm Natalie. And the way that sleep connects to the paranormal is a topic we return to here often. Oh no. That Ghosties. Yeah. I think it's safe to say that we believe your dreams can sometimes, sometimes, alert you to the spiritual events taking place around you. And when it comes to sleep paralysis, it's no different. Now, I won't go as far as saying that sleep paralysis is strictly paranormal. I don't think it's always paranormal. But there are some instances that point in that direction. Like, how is it that someone will go their entire lives without a sleep paralysis incident? But when they move into a home that's kind of slowly revealing itself to be haunted, that's when they get their first experience. Oh gosh, this is going to make me sick. Is it always strictly psychological when you're going through a tougher time mentally and creatures begin to visit you from the shadows of the night while you lie frozen in bed? We may never know, really, the answers to these questions. However, we can continue to tell stories about it. So to kick off our month-long foray into Reddit, I've pulled a few stories from my favorite place to browse on the internet, all involving the internet's anonymous posters, experiencing nightmares and sleep paralysis. Oh man. All right. This is this is going to get me. And I'm I like to discuss it on the pod, but talking about it makes me feel like it's going to happen to me. I get really nervous. I know. And so if you go on Reddit, actually, into the sleep paralysis subreddits, there are a lot of people who have tips and tricks to like get yourself out of it. When you feel like you're you're in it, they a lot of people have different ways about pulling yourself out of it faster. So if you have that fear, sorry, you've never experienced it, right? No, no. And I have not several. All over the time. All right. Sorry. Go ahead. But I just had to clarify. I forgot. I wanted to make sure you don't even even know what this feels like. I don't want to. I do not want to. But if you are afraid like Natalie is to get sleep paralysis after listening stories about it, just go to the subreddit, see all their tips and tricks. A lot of people that I read say like start with the toes, start with the toes and wiggle your toes. But that being said, our tea today is tea with tea, spa bliss, a harmonious blend of chamomile, lavender, lemon, and spearmint. That sounds relaxing. I'm intrigued. All right. I'm so terrified. We've got some weird ones. It's not all like strictly sleep paralysis in the way that you think. Okay, go. Some of it's some of it's interesting. We just got a we got to rip the bandaid. I can't stall any longer. Let's go. What do you think? It is a calming tea. Yeah. It's really hot the way we have it right now. But I could understand the name the spa bliss one, right? That's what it's called. Spa bliss. Yeah. Tea with tea has pretty good teas. This is not my favorite. But it's just the flavor combination. That's just it's not at the top of my list. But I mean, it wasn't bad. So Lee, in the beginning with this type of tea, I would have been like, but like, as I've tried more, yeah, as we've tried more, it's it's not my favorite, but I'm not a hater of it. This seems like you would like it. Like this is something that you would wouldn't mind drinking. It's on a cold morning or something. But we'll go ahead and start off with our first story. It comes from our slash ghosts sleep paralysis experience. I had sleep paralysis when I lived at my parents house when I was about 17. I remember looking at the clock and it was 1112. My brother was still awake because I could see his lights on since it was across the hall from mine. I still had my lamp on so I could see everything. I passed out while sleeping on my back and my arms folded across my stomach since I have back issues sleeping on my back helps. Well, I opened my eyes and I couldn't move. I could speak, but I was so terrified and confused I couldn't scream. I looked to my left, but then I heard a ringing noise coming from my right side so my eyes went right and I see this dementor creature. I feel like my credibility will go down with this, but I swear it was this faceless black hooded torn up creature. It didn't do or say anything because at that point I actually cried out to God to help me. I said God, please help me over and over. And then I was finally able to move. I ran down to my parents so quickly crying. Yes, I was 17, but that was spooky. And they said I could sleep in their bed and told me to go back to bed, but I was so terrified of sleeping in my room. I slept on our dog's bed since he slept with my parents. If anything can explain, please help. My sleep paralysis, the work of ghosts, I know dementors are unbelievable and many of you will probably not believe me, but that's the best way to describe it. No, I did not watch Harry Potter anytime close to that either. So it wasn't necessarily menacing or doing anything bad, but it was there. Yeah, I mean, I still don't like that. No. And then somebody commented, the reason I chose this one because there was a comment under it that related to it. Interesting that you mentioned the faceless black hooded torn up creature. I had an experience in my home in Hawaii back in 2015 and I was woken up by scratching at my ceiling. I couldn't move and I had suffered from sleep paralysis since I was a kid. But as I'm looking at where this scratching on the ceiling is coming from, a black figure slid down the wall from the ceiling and it floated to my side of the bed. The only way I can describe this figure is close to your description, but it was more like the figure was being scribbled in real time. It was super distorted, had red eyes and just looked like it was scribbled in front of me. Black, super black, though. I've had encounters with dark figures in the past, sometimes eight or nine feet tall, but this was the first time that one spoke to me. I don't even know what language it was, but it was a super low, rowley, grizzly voice akin to screaming or talking in reverse hailing. If you know what I mean, kind of like a death metal vocalist. The biggest and craziest experience within that experience was that while it was speaking in whatever language it was speaking, I felt life or energy draining out of my body. That was the scariest part. Eventually it just faded back into or through the wall. There was a month of buildup of odd events that led to the culmination of this stint. Maybe I'll start a thread of post a plethora of my experiences. And I didn't check, but I hope they did. Oh, Mike. Okay. The description of the voice. I can handle the visual because we've heard it so many times. It was just kind of similar to that one. The voice and them not knowing what it was saying. I know the way it described like like the inhaling like grungy scream voice is so specific and so eerie to me. I don't know. I think I think hearing it is worse when people see something. Actually, I don't know what I'm saying. I'm just really scared. I don't have a point really. I really don't. I just feel scared. So thanks. This is a good start. I was going to say I'm sorry, but I'm really not. This was the whole point. I know. This is the point. Our next story comes from our slash paranormal encounters. A true experience, strange dream followed by sleep paralysis after I took an unfamiliar route home. When I was 16, I took a dark way home from a haircut instead of my usual main road. Along the path, there used to be a daily older community activity center built by an elderly man out of old wooden boards, but it had already been torn down due to fire safety issues. That night, I had a disturbing dream. I was on the same street, but it was completely dark and filled with fog. An old man was buying breakfast near a food stall close to where the activity center used to be. The stall owner then asked me if I wanted one too. And I suddenly woke up. I first assumed it was just a stress-related nightmare. Then I felt three distinct breaths blown onto my scalp. I thought it was my sibling joking around, but quickly realized he should have been asleep, a strong sense of fear set in. I found myself unable to move. I'd experienced sleep paralysis before, but this time I couldn't break free no matter how hard I tried, and I felt an intense fear that something bad might happen. There was also a mirror next to my bed facing it, and I had a strong feeling that there was something in the mirror when I woke up. My father then came out of the bathroom, and as the light slowly entered my room, I gradually regained the ability to move. Most people described sleep paralysis ending suddenly, but mine faded slowly with the light. The next day, my mother told a friend about it, and she mentioned that an elderly man in a nearby residential area had recently passed away. His age and gender matched the man in my dream, and he was known to spend time at that activity center. I rarely dream about strangers, which made this experience feel especially unsettling. I'm not claiming anything paranormal, just sharing an experience, and wondering how others might interpret it. And to add, I've been using an i-mask for every sleep, so when I found myself unable to move, I could feel the faint light, but couldn't see anything. Interesting. Weird, I don't think we've ever heard like a sleep paralysis type of thing tied in with seeing someone real, like just like a person. Whatever that old man, if it is that old man who recently passed, attached themselves to this person going down a new route, that is really strange. Also, the mirror facing the bed thing was weird to me because I used to get sleep paralysis a lot whenever we were growing up, and I had that huge mirror that faced the mirror at my bed. So I wonder if that has anything like any correlation, you know? I definitely think it does. I definitely, I truly do, and maybe this is just like really woo-woo of me. I do believe mirrors act as portals in some instances. I mean, it's obviously not always open, just like - Free for all, and you're like, come in, yeah. - But I do, I do believe that they can be used for that purpose, personally. - Yeah, no, I don't like that at all. - But I did also really find that interesting, the attachment. Why sleep paralysis? And was he trying to scare you? Or was he just lost in confused? - Yeah, lost in curious? - Yeah, I don't know, that's kind of sad. - This next story comes from our slash ghost stories, and it was a different one. So in the story, you'll see that they say they didn't have sleep paralysis, but it was very similar to sleep paralysis experiences. - Okay. - So, just starting that out there. We ran out of the hotel in the middle of the night. So I don't know whether this was a ghost, I don't know what it was. I only know that it scared me and my friend badly. This is going to be a long one, apologies in advance. A few months back, I went on holiday with a couple of friends to celebrate my Hindu. I ended up sharing a hotel room with my maid of honor who I'm just going to refer to as MOH from here on out. We spent the first couple of nights exploring the town and drinking a little too much. So that by the time we got back to the hotel, we fell asleep pretty much as soon as we crawled into bed. The third night rolled around and we all felt pretty rough. So we decided to take it easy. We had a nice meal, no booze, and watched comedy stuff on her tablet until it was time for bed. I woke up abruptly at 2 a.m., with the feeling that something else was in the room with us, telling myself not to be stupid. I opened my eyes and stared directly at a woman standing next to the bathroom door. Oh no. The first thing I noticed about her was her hair. It was black. And her shirt, green with white polka dots. This is important later. But the more I looked, the more I realized that she was all wrong. She was unnaturally tall. So much so that her head was leveled with the door frame. The worst thing was her face though. The only way I can describe it is to say that it looked melted, but that doesn't do it justice. Her teeth were huge, protruding way out of her mouth. She was leaning towards me, beckoning me over to her and laughing. I couldn't hear the laugh, but I felt it. Now I'm gonna pause here and say that I know what sleep paralysis is. It's happened to me on and off since I was a very little kid. I wake up and I can't move. I see stuff that shouldn't be there. This was not that. Firstly, I could move. Because initially I thought it was a weird dream remnant. I actually leaned towards her trying to see better. Secondly, when I do wake up, seeing weird things, they disappear as soon as I close and reopen my eyes. So I close my eyes and reopen them again. Close them and open them. Close them and open them and every time she was still there. At this point, I lost it. Close my eyes and scream for my maid of honor to turn the light on. As soon as she flipped the switch, I turned to check and the woman was gone. I got out of bed and searched the bathroom just to be on the safe side and it was empty. I've never physically-- Sorry, I had a vision of her running in there to hide and it got really freaked me out. I've never physically shaken from fear before, but by this point, I was trembling from head to toe and couldn't stop. While I was pacing the room, my maid of honor was lying on her bed, awake, but struggling to open her eyes. This was weird in itself because, A, when she's up, she's up. I live in fear of sleeping in the same room as her because she's a light sleeper and won't be able to nod off again if I wake her. And B, she's a very protective friend and under any other circumstances, if she heard me scream, she'd be at my side in a shot. Our conversation went something like this. Me, not wanting to sound stupid. I had a nightmare. Her, it's okay, sweetie. This hotel is just messed up. Me. I saw a woman. At this point, my maid of honor sat bolt upright. Don't. Me, green polka dot shirt. We stared at each other for a moment, then without saying anything else, grabbed some essentials and left the hotel. We went down onto the beach and walked through the seawater, then managed to find a bar that was still open. When we were finally sat down with a pint each, we finally talked. When I screamed, I had woken up my maid of honor from a nightmare in which a really tall woman with a melted face and huge teeth was pinning her down onto the bed and screaming into her face. The woman had black hair and was wearing a green shirt with white polka dots. We didn't calm down until I booked a subroom at another hotel. We waited out the rest of the night in bars and cafes, and when our other friends finally woke up, we got him to accompany us back to our room so we could get our stuff and go. So that's my story. I still have to sleep with the lights on because I'm scared of what might be waiting for me if I wake up in the dark. Other interesting points to note, the hotel where this happened was the oldest in the city. Having been built around a hundred years prior. When I woke up, we were two hours into Halloween. Some people, we've told this story too, I've suggested it might have been someone playing a Halloween prank, but the main door was locked from the inside and it was also really stiff and made a horrendous noise whenever it was opened. There's no way anyone opened it without us hearing. The only other entrance was the balcony door, two floors up, covered with a metal shutter that could only be operated from the inside. Since its incident, me and my maid of honor have started having the same nightmares. Not every night and not even about the woman we saw, but once a month or so, we'll have the same horrible dream and it's different each time. - Oh my gosh. Oh, oh my God. Okay, so you know if you've seen the back rooms, how all the people there are just kind of messed up. - Yeah. - That's what I was envisioning, like that type of vibe that yes and oh my gosh, I can see it and it's so disgusting. What do you make of that? - Who is this lady, why, how can she present to both of them at the same time in different ways? - See, okay, dreams, dreams. And if you believe sleep paralysis is-- - But she wasn't dreaming. The story for the person that wrote? - Yes, yes, if you believe sleep paralysis is kind of like that state between dreaming and awake. Maybe she was dreaming about her before and she kind of like, that's the only thing that stayed. - There was still, yeah, it was still there. But then how was the friend saying it as well? - They continued on too to have the same nightmares. They're having the same dream. And it changes each month. I don't know, progression of the story of the spirit or something. - That, I don't know. That to me, I feel like she was there. Like she resides in that hotel or something or she's attached to them and I'm really freaked out. I'm really freaked out. I don't like the description of, there's just something about something that looks human but off that really, really scares me. - I agree. - Really bad. More than like a demon looking figure. - That's like inherently enough. - Yes, oh, like I feel my arms feel numb. - I just envision myself in OP's shoes just laying there, waking up and like leaning forward, trying to get a good look at what I'm seeing. - Yeah, first realizing what is that? Closing my eyes to try and get rid of it and it's just still there, standing at me, laughing. - Yeah. - 'Cause you think if you adjust your eyes or lean in, it's gonna change. - Yeah. - And it just, it remains. - That's awful. - See, they said it wasn't sleep paralysis and I still had to keep that one in because I had to tell you this story. - Yeah, no, that woman was disgusting. That's the scariest one so far. - This next one comes from our slash lucid dreaming. Blacked out torture nightmare. Oh, the other night I experienced something I've never experienced before. I've loosened dreaming before. I understand the control. I've had dreams within dreams a lot. I keep waking up, but I'm still in another dream. I also always have the ability to wake myself up from nightmares. This night was all of that combined, but I had no control and felt unbearable pain and torture. And the weirdest part about it is it happened incomplete darkness with the sense of me being awake. I have a three month old baby and my sleep schedule is non-existent. Sometimes I get to sleep when I'm tired. Sometimes it's when I'm far past sleep deprivation. When I'm sleep deprived and finally get to sleep, I usually feel it happening, that sinking feeling, the vibrational falling. Whenever that's happening, I've entered this lucid dreaming state of I'm still awake, but I'm starting to dream and it's been in black and white. This particular night, whenever I would fall asleep, it would just be black, but I'd feel awake. Then I would wake up to a vivid dream that felt real to where I thought I was awake. Then it would turn into a nightmare and I had a hard time waking myself up. I experienced this about five times back to back because I was so exhausted I kept falling asleep after I woke myself back up. I kept falling asleep immediately to this blackness and I endured torture. I felt it all. I was stabbed, choked, drowned, assaulted, burned. Every time was different and I felt all of the pain, all in this darkness, until I woke up to part two of my nightmare. Unfortunately, I didn't actually wake up. I felt paralyzed in the position I was laying in bed when I finally woke up and all I could do was go back to sleep and do it again. Why couldn't I wake myself up when I was so aware and conscious of all this happening? Does this sound like possession, paralysis? Because it felt like I experienced literal hell. Hello. To go through the relief of, oh, I'm awake, but I'm not awake. Oh, I'm awake, but I'm not awake and I'm frozen and I can't move and I know I'm about to fall back into this. Is there a scary movie that has this type of plot? Maybe not the torture element? I mean, is nightmare on Elm Street? Yeah, true, true, true, true. I need something modern. I need something new right now to be made like this. That sounds really, really scary and really trippy and if that happened to me, I just, I feel like it would send me into a bad place. Have you ever felt that falling sensation while you're going to sleep, that vibrational falling sensation? Yeah. I didn't know until doing this podcast and doing some research that like that's the precursor to a lot of people having their like astral projection, lose your dreaming, OBEs, that kind of thing. Like when they're more in control of their, I don't know, spiritual body, when they go to sleep. I didn't know that either. I just thought that was, I don't know, something that happened everyone. No. I mean, I'm sure it happens to most people. I don't like that feeling though, but yeah, I didn't realize that and I just falling into that state where usually you can control yourself, but you're pinned and you can't and you know that you're free, but you're not free. You know what I mean? Yeah, no. I don't like my control being taken from me. So that's horrifying. Me neither. That one was particularly awful for me because of that aspect. Moving on to our next story comes from our slash sleep paralysis stories. This one's just titled sleep paralysis. Hi. So I am one of those people that when I sleep in the complete darkness, I am always visited. I've had sleep paralysis for many years and it is an incredibly uncomfortable experience. I've combated this with always having a night light on and a phone or iPad playing something benign. Just having audio doesn't work. There has to be light. Sometimes even this isn't enough and honestly, I'm a practicing which I have to now sleep with a Bible physically in bed with me. If I have dreams with demons, it's like fever dreams. If I force myself to wake up, they will follow me into the next dream. I always know what I'm about to go into sleep paralysis because there is a pulling sensation. It's the weirdest feeling, but I can literally feel them pulling my subconscious into a direction or place they want me. I will force myself to wake up or just get up when it becomes too much and I can't fight it off. In the earlier days, my sleep paralysis was so bad that I would wake up to my bed soaking wet from sweat. I would break things next to my bed trying to get away. I broke one of my beds because whatever it was slammed me so hard into the bed my body broke the rails underneath me. Oh my gosh. It was terrifying. When I was awake, I once got out of the shower to riding on my mirror. Things would go missing for days then just reappear. At one point all of my underwear was ripping so I had to buy all new underwear. I would see shadows in my peripherals all the time. All these things come and go, some things will stop, others will continue for months on end. I've never spoken to anyone about these things as my family is religious and I don't want them thinking that because I burned some candles and incense, I'm invoking demons. The dreams returned last night and I barely slept. They will physically move me around in my bed when I am in full sleep paralysis. Last night it was just whispering words I couldn't understand in my ear and scraping its nails down my back. I always tell them to leave and to leave me alone they usually laugh at me. Then we'll eventually leave but never release me from the sleep paralysis until I figure out a way to wake myself up. It's into spider into my bed as it was leaving and it bit me and that's when I was finally able to wake up, finally. And lo and behold, I woke up this morning with giant marks on my thigh. I slept the rest of the night with my Bible literally clutched to my chest. What is going on like for real? Has this happened to anyone else? I'd love to say this is all happening in my head but then I wake up to things being real, 100% real. I live alone and I never write anything on my mirrors. I know mirrors are portals so I always cleanse my mirrors once a month to seal them. I literally don't know what is happening but I would like it to stop. Okay. That one got me because there was so much happening outside of sleep too. Yeah, the physical attack of like being in the sleep paralysis but then also you can feel that you're being moved and touched. That feels really dark and I hope this person's okay. I know. Oh my god. I don't think it was posted very long ago but yeah, me too. The physical aspect of it and the outside of sleep. It's like not even just nightmares. It's not something you can write off. This person's being attacked. I know. I think one of the comments was like this is spiritual warfare, like there's something horrible happening. Yeah. How does one cleanse and seal a mirror? Good question. I don't know. Okay. We need someone to help us because I have no idea. But I am intrigued on what is it just about intention or are there like specific steps? I feel like there were steps but someone could tell us in the comments if you know please. Let us know. Our next story also from our slash sleep paralysis stories, unconventional sleep paralysis. I've read a lot of stories where people see some sort of person or shadow figure, entity, demon, etc. When they have sleep paralysis, but for me, it's not that. It's let's scary but still weird and I wanted to ask if anyone ever experienced this too. When I get sleep paralysis, I don't see anything. It's not like closing your eyes. It's like being blind. I don't see anything. When it happened the first time, I thought I had gone blind and panicked, but then I couldn't move and realized what was happening. The next thing that happens during my sleep paralysis is that I will see text in front of me, just in white, bold letters. I know these letters are in English and I know they are actual words and reasonable sentences and not just random gibberish, but it's like I can't read them. While it was happening, I could see the letters clearly, but when I tried reading them, they seemed to blur. It's weird that they were in English because my main language is German, but anyways, the next thing was that I also heard a voice. I'm pretty sure it was a female voice. If I had to guess a female voice of a woman in her 30s or 40s, speaking with a slight German accent, I know that the voice speaks English, but I'm not sure if she says the same thing as the text reads, or if it's something else entirely. I know that what the voice says is not gibberish, but even though she speaks clearly and as if she was only a few meters away, I can't understand what she's saying. It's so weird because I can hear and understand the words, but it's like I can't process them. After these three things go on for a bit, I start to feel a pulsing sensation in the middle of my chest, like where my sternum is, not where my heart is. It's not a pulsing like a heartbeat, but more like when a water droplet falls into a river and creates ripples away from where it's starting from my sternum up to my throat. It gets more intense and almost painful because of how much pressure this sensation has until I wake up. When I wake up, my heart is beating so fast that I can hear it. I can feel the blood pumping through my ears specifically. I can feel my heart hitting my ribcage. I usually wake up and almost have like a sort of panic attack because my heart rate is out of control. My breathing is very irregular and it feels like I can't breathe. I literally feel like I'm dying, and it lasts for at least 15 minutes after waking up. I'm always very sweaty and feel warm and flushed. I know this is less supernatural than what I assume is normal on this subreddit, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has this. Additionally, I recently found a voice that comes pretty close to what I hear whenever I hear absolute paralysis. The voice of the Eva Stratt's character in the movie Project Hell Mary comes pretty close, though the voice I hear is slightly deeper. Just for the record, I've been having sleep paralysis since like 2024, me watching the movie has nothing to do with it. Oh, so this is recent. A lot of these were pretty recent, yeah. Oh. I wrote down how old they were. What does that even mean? I don't know, but I find it so weird that it's like slowly reaching out to them, like trying to like get them to hear and understand, like pulling towards them, but it's just not processing through your brain. And is it a message for you then, or is it- That's what I was going to say. Yeah. Like, is it trying to like not necessarily warn them that something bad is going to happen, but you know what I'm saying? Like, yeah. That would drive me nuts. I don't like misunderstanding, and I'm like the main person in this world to be like, huh? What? What do you say? What? Because I don't like to not know what's going on. Oh, um, before warning anyone who ever comes across me in real life, if I say, huh? What? What do you say? Like, more than two times. Um, I'm nodding and like, and I have no clue what you said. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I feel like a burden is being placed upon you if I ask you seven times to please repeat yourself. So eventually I'm just like, uh-huh. Looks same. I'm, I'm just really freaked out by that one. I don't know why the, the feeling of like the rippling, mm-hmm, it just, it feels off. I don't like it. It feels almost ritualistic. Oh. You know, like the words, the speaking, and then the like the movements, the rippling. And I, I don't know, it, it feels, and it happens the same way. The going blind. Mm-hmm. Eyes open, but they, it's all total darkness. That's really scary to me. I can't even conceptualize that. I've thought about that a bunch of times because I've seen like a post. It's like, when you're blind, you're not seeing like when you close your eyes like the darkness, there's just nothing. I can't conceptualize that. Yeah. So the fact that this person exceeds that and experiences that or not sees it, but you know what I'm saying? Like, they experience that moment. Mm-hmm. I, I can't even wrap my head around it. That is such a, such a strange experience. I'd love to know if any of you guys have ever had experiences like this too and what your thoughts are on this. Yeah. Okay, we've got a few more. This next one I put in because you'll see why. It's from our slash sleep paralysis stories. They came through the window. Oh my god. I moved into a very old house in a town called Cut and Shoot in Texas. First two weeks, the windows in the house creep me out. I couldn't see out, but I knew if my lights were on, you can see in. What? The heck? No way. Okay. Sorry. Our, we have- We have that. Possibly. That used to be there. That is so weird. The first night we opened the windows in our room was a nightmare. I woke up paralyzed, heard two ghoul-sounding voices above me. What I remember was them talking to each other. Too bad we can't take. her and laughing. Then I felt them depart through the window, but I couldn't move. I just cried, and I remember wanting to reach over and grab my husband, but I couldn't. I carried a pew-pew after that and never opened the windows at night again. Oh my god, I was just envisioning like our cousin's house. How did you find that? It just came across it. So random and weird and very specific. Shout out people from Cut and Shoot, I guess. That's so weird. But I saw that at first and I was like, "Ooh, okay, I'm going to include this no matter what." They came through the window. No. They came and left through the window. Locked windows. Who are they? No windows. Yeah, they'd never opened the windows at night again. Board them up. My dream in this life is to be able to have a house that completely locks down at night the way people lock their houses down in the purge. The purge? Yes, where it's like, and a bunch of like iron doors and bars. Do you all come down? Yes. That is my actual, I'm not even joking, that's my dream. That would be love for that. I love a good bunker tour. Yeah. You ever see those bunkers on like YouTube? Yeah, I mean, I don't want a bunker. I want a normal house. And then I want to do a sweep and then lock it down. I want like blast from the past level bunker. You go down and it's just like a hole. I haven't seen that a little neighborhood. Yeah, my basement. Anyway, our next story comes from our slash sleep paralysis stories. Once again, first time experiencing sleep paralysis. I've never had sleep paralysis in my life. And after hearing so many stories, I felt grateful that it never happened to me. But tonight it did. I'm typing this out now at four in the morning because I'm afraid of it happening again. The dream I had was so vivid, it was very scary. So after reading others posts here, it seemed that the reason it happened was because I was extremely tired when I went to sleep. And my husband woke me up from the couch to take me to bed, meaning I went to sleep immediately after waking up. As I described this dream, I'll change names for me in my husband. But anyway, I had a dream where I was seeing a video titled "Remembering the Jones Couple" and how they died. I watched a lot of murder mysteries, so it didn't seem too weird, but this video actually had our last name. The video starts by showing my husband and I sleeping in bed. There's an aerator saying, "It all started with Hank, waking up to a strange sound." A husband wakes up scared, looking around, he shakes me awake in the dream video, and I wake up. He says, "Did you hear that?" We both stop talking. And we hear this extremely creepy, human-like sound. It sounded like a mix between a whale and a yodl. We both look at each other and grab the courage to go find the source. It seems to be coming from an air vent above us, so I grab a broomstick and start hitting the ceiling, thinking someone is squatting in our attic. As I hit the ceiling, nothing is happening. The whaling continues. I hit the ceiling so hard that it makes a hole, and I hit something like a deadweight body. Like, if someone was laying down, finally I grab a step stool, go right up to the air vent and try to yell at whatever it is through the vent, but no sound comes out. I try and I try to scream, but it's as if my vocal cords are paralyzed. Then I start to freak out. I wake up for my dream, but I can't move it all in real life. I'm stuck, sleeping face up. I'm a strictly a slide sleeper, and I can't move. There's a pillow over my face, and I am now actively trying to scream myself out of the paralyzed state I was in. And the creepiest thing is, I manage to make some type of noise, and it's the same whaling/yodl for my dream. It was MY voice, which sounded like a whaling because I'm literally panicking. My husband wakes up, freaks out and shakes me awake, which is just creepier because it's exactly how the dream started, him waking up to the whaling and waking me up. He was extremely scared. He said he had never heard a sound like that, much less a sound like that come out of me. Meanwhile, I'm shaking, trying to study myself from the absolute nightmare I felt. I think the scariest part was the feeling that I was stuck in a loop that was repeating itself. Like, this was slightly predicted. I'm sorry, what? That one gave me the creeps. I don't know, like, what? Sorry, what? The announcer voice, like, what did it say? It keeps morson. It like started with something. It all started with Hank waking up to a strange sound. What could this possibly mean and how they died? I would be so scared to waking up for real waking up in the same manner in which the dream documentary crew crime, documentary of me and my husband's demise. Oh, wait, wasn't it called something about what was it called? Yeah, it was remembering the Jones couple and how they died. So it starts with that. I would never, that would feel like the beginning of the end. Yes, that was so scary. I would not be able to relax. Nobody would be able to calm me down. I had some of the strangest things I've ever heard. I imagine. So maybe this is weird, but this is how my brain conceptualized this whole event was like, OP was trapped within themselves. And they were hearing that noise of themselves. And when they were hitting the ceiling and they hit the dead weight, it was their body, you know, like up in a higher plane because they're like in the dream plane or whatever. And then they hit their body because it was like the dead weight laying down. And then they finally can wake up but they're paralyzed. Their body's just like dead weight like that still. And it's just these levels of I guess, but how many levels are there? How many layers? Like, are we back in the the real life? Unless we're in their dream reality? We're part of the documentary. Oh my gosh. No, that's horrifying. That one just is I'm not going to get over that for a long time. It was weird, wasn't it? Yeah, I've had, I don't know how many of you watch like, um, date line. Oh yeah. But I've had moments in my life where I can hear Keith Morrison talking about like she was just a young girl from a small town. Exactly. When I get out of my car and I'm walking somewhere in the dark, it's like, and then the unexpected happened. And then I hear like that, like that slash sound, like on like forensic files and stuff. Yeah. Oh my gosh. And I freak myself out bad when I do that. So it's so do I. I know if Keith Morrison is haunting us or if that's our like our internal voice is just him. Our internal monologue. It's just worse. Oh my gosh. Hey, it's a smooth voice. I guess, but it's terrifying. Our next story comes from our slash astral projection, which is where I like to be. On Reddit, honestly. Intense hallucinations and sleep paralysis that feel so real scary OBE. I've successfully achieved an out of body experience once and I've gotten very close other times. This was about the closest I've gotten since my full experience. I went into sleep paralysis, something I've always experienced since childhood and let it push me deeper and deeper until I started hallucinating vividly. I heard auditory voices and sounds. I felt as if I was sitting up and down aggressively in bed, although I knew I was lying flat and still. And most of all, I felt as if someone or something was at the bottom of my bed, pinching and scratching my feet. I knew I was on the verge of being able to roll out of my body. The pinching became actually painful, so I tried to kick whatever was pinching me. At this point, I don't think I actually moved my feet, but I believe my astral feet did come out of my body. I felt as if I kicked something that was down at the end of my bed, but it sort of retaliated and started pinching harder. Ultimately, the pinching subsided, but I felt like someone had crawled on top of my body and was laying on me. Eyes are still closed. I genuinely thought it was my girlfriend. She was actually asleep in bed next to me, but I knew I was hallucinating and wanted to stay calm, so I just let it happen. The feeling of someone being on top of me was so real that I thought there was no way this was just hallucination. So I opened my eyes and I saw this creature that was horrifying. It was a female looking creature with long brown hair, no eyes, pale skin, and a white tongue. My environment was my bedroom, so I was still in bed and this thing was laying on me and trying to kiss me, and it actually did kiss me at one point. It was actually terrifying and had this evil yet curious energy about it. I did not like it and it scared the mess out of me. It was also making strange noises and movements, almost like an insect. For some reason, it had the same or similar pajamas on as my girlfriend. I think it had some sort of link to her. I don't know. Very weird and scary. It felt so real. I truly felt the weight of this thing on me. I instantly jolted awake and looked over to see my girlfriend sleeping soundly next to me. I was freaked out because I felt the energy of this thing still in the room and some other entity or energy as well. I felt two presences. I don't know. But I was fully awake at this point. Tried to trigger another OBE, but was too anxious. Why did this happen to me? Why so negative? My first OBE was very neutral and almost a positive experience. This didn't scare me off from trying again, but I am concerned that I will encounter some of these entities again. Oh my god! That is so disgusting, so deeply unsettling. If I was this person and it was dressed like my girlfriend, I would turn and like use both feet and kick her out of the bed. I'd be like, "What did you do?" You brought this. Oh my god, not really, but there were a bunch of comments like, "I think this might be connected to your girlfriend somehow." Yeah, but not necessarily that she did it, but like maybe an attachment. It's been watching her. It wants to be her. This is disgusting. I feel very unwell. It was troubling. And for them to be like, - I tried again, but yeah, I was a little too anxious. I'll try again some other time. - I cannot imagine. I would never want to go to sleep again. - No, no. Knowing that those things are out there, mm-hmm. This is bad. - Well, we've only got three more if you can make it. - I don't know. - I don't know. - I don't know. - Two shorts and one medium. - Okay. - Our slash ghosts for this one. I keep getting sleep paralysis consistently. Is someone or something here? So it's more of a sleep paralysis thing, but it happens way too often. And somewhat in a chronological order, as if the entity is getting more and more aggressive with me. I'm really frightened what's gonna happen next. I used to sleep with my brother and dad sharing a room, but since I'm older now, I decided to move into an unoccupied bedroom upstairs that was used as storage before. So now while everyone else is on the second floor, they live together. I'm the only person that lives on the third floor alone. This third floor is holy storage and could be pretty creepy at night. So first, it's just sightings from my bed, all the way to the door. It was pretty far, so at first, I just thought it was a regular old nightmare. Second time it happened. I had my back turned towards the entity. I felt its presence behind me. The third time it happened, I was lying on my back. I felt like the entity was right on top of me, but I did not see it physically. And now the most terrifying thing that happened last night, the thing just dragged me from my bed, all the way to the floor. I couldn't move like every paralysis, but I could move my eyes and then I saw this tall black entity. I could only see its lower and a bit of its upper body. Then next thing I remember is I got dragged back to my bed with me lying on my stomach. Then the pillows got stacked on top of me. Everything felt so real, felt lucid, you know? I remember forcing myself so hard to wake up and screaming for help, but nothing really came out. When I woke up, I felt so tired, but I just couldn't sleep again, knowing what I just experienced. And this is something we talked about in our first episode about sleep paralysis, like two years ago, it's lying on your back. Why, what is the connection? Did we ever figure anything out? Or were we just like, I don't know, happened a lot? I want to say that there was something in there about it, but I don't recall. Because that's what happens to me too. Like if I fall asleep flat on my back, I, that's how I sleep. I think it's maybe the position of your, like maybe organs or veins or something in your body. I know when you're pregnant, you shouldn't sleep on your back because the weight presses on like things in your body and like mess with your circulation. So I don't know if maybe there's something similar like that happening when you're sleeping on your back in a certain position. And maybe it's like impeding your breathing or something. Well, I don't know. Well, yeah, 'cause when I like flat on my back, I can't really breathe. Yeah, so maybe maybe that's something to do with it. I don't know, back sleepers, stop it. Stop it. Get some help. This one comes from our slash sleep paralysis. It's just titled, I did not like this. I was not a fan, 3am my time. So let me start off by saying I already knew about sleep paralysis but I don't usually have any dreams. Just lights out then on. So I can tell if I'm dreaming very easily. I sleep with no lights and a fan on, alone with a housemate. The dream starts nice in college at tailgate. I sleep and fall. If I have a fall dream, that's usually where I wake up as I have pretty bad fear of heights. So I wake up in bed and there's something on me. It's dark, so I can't see. It's extremely heavy though. So I'm fighting for my life to get this thing off. At this point, the dream is so real, I'm just straight confused. Until I muster enough strength to lift my body forward, then fling forwards into a bottomless ball. That wakes me up for real. My room has a window, so through the window there is some light. I'm exhausted already and gasping for air. I go to get up and something grabs my arm. By fingers firmly around my arm, I look over and see a humanoid with something between a pillowcase and a white paper bag for a head or mask with only blacker than black eye holes of nothing in a white tank top. I realize now that I can't move. It grabs my other arm. I also have a fear of being overly restricted. So I scream this time. It's my personal hell. My muscles are strained. It's painfully heavy. It feels like forever. I switch to just focusing on my fingers. And finally, it works. I finally focus on the muscle network and snap a wake. This time I go for my phone and turn on the light, scan the room. I did not like any of that. Me neither. It's again, those dream into a dream and to sleep paralysis. Why is this a thing? I haven't heard of very many people having this type of thing happen to them and now there's several and it's feeling, oh yeah, I really love stories like that. It's too much. I really, I don't like to feel like I said like out of control or just like I don't know what's going on. Like I'm confused and so waking up and thinking, oh, I'm awake. But it's a dream within a dream within a dream. And it's inception and like I never even liked inception. As a kid, something goes in your room with you. When an inception come out, like 2012, 2010. Somewhere around there. Yeah, I don't know. I was a young person in life. You're a weirdo. Inception is so good. No, it scared me as of like watching it. I was like, I don't like the the idea of the not really knowing the app really scares me. Oh my gosh. Okay, well, we've got one more and then you can go meditate or something. I'm like sweating some prayers. It's so bad. This one also comes from our slash sleep paralysis. My alarm triggered the most horrifying sleep paralysis experience I've ever had. Hello, I just woke up from one of the worst nightmares I've ever had and it genuinely scared the crap out of me. I was sleeping on my side when my alarm rang. So I woke up half conscious and pressed snooze because I wanted another 10 minutes of sleep. When the alarm rang again, that's when everything started. In the dream I heard someone talking in a voice that kind of sounded exactly like Billie Eilish. She was talking about horror movie alarms. It said something like, I made an alarm that sounds like a horror movie. Two alarms. One is the Michael Myers opening scene with the door opening. And the second is a sound of the monster running towards you and climbing onto the bed. The second she finished saying that, my actual alarm rang in real life and the nightmare immediately started. I suddenly heard a door open somewhere behind me then silence for like one second. Then I heard something sprinting and singly fast across my room. Not normal running either. The kind of speed where you instantly know something is wrong. Before I could even process what was happening, I heard the side of my bed creak slowly under its weight and felt something jump onto it behind me. I swear it felt completely real. The worst part was that my room looked exactly like my real room. Nothing looked distorted or dreamlike. It genuinely felt like I had woken up normally and something was actually there with me. I felt the mattress sink from its weight. Then felt something touch the back of my neck. My neck instantly went cold. I couldn't move anything at all. Not my hands, not my fingers, not even the rest of my body. I couldn't breathe properly. Couldn't scream, couldn't call for help. I tried to shut my eyes but for some reason I couldn't even close my right eye. I was completely frozen in fear. And then I felt breathing near my ear. Not loud breathing. Slow, heavy breaths. Like something was leaning directly over me. I couldn't even feel air on my skin properly but I could hear it right next to my ear and it made everything feel even more real. The worst part is that I never actually looked at it directly. I only felt it behind me. I could feel its presence, the pressure on the bed, the touch on my neck and hear how unbelievably fast it moved. But with my right eye barely open, I could see its shadow on the right side of the bed as it leaned over me. And the shadow looked like it was smiling. Not a normal smile, either. The huge distorted grin stretched unnaturally from ear to ear while it looked down at me. I never saw details of its face, only the outline and that impossible smile in the shadow. Somehow that made it even worse because my brain filled in the rest. And I swear, the more scared I became, the wider the smile looked. What terrified me most wasn't even how it looked. It was the speed. The second the voice stopped talking, the thing instantly rushed at me. No pause, no warning, just pure speed. The feeling of the bed sinking behind me genuinely scared me more than anything else. The scariest part is that I think my brain connected the alarm sound to the dream instantly because from that moment the alarm rang, I already felt like something horrible was about to happen. But then suddenly I remembered something I once heard about see paralysis. That your brain is pumping adrenaline and sometimes you can still affect the dream if you focused hard enough. So instead of panicking, I tried to fight back in my head. I imagined grabbing the hand that was holding my neck and twisting it with everything I had. And the second I did that, the shadow's smile changed. The huge grin that was stretched upward towards its face suddenly dropped downward and disappeared. And somehow that instantly made it less terrifying. It was like this thing lost whatever control it had over me. Right after that I started focusing on moving my real fingers in real life. At first they barely twitched, but once I felt the move the whole thing suddenly vanished. I woke up with my heart racing and I genuinely didn't want to turn around for a few seconds because it still felt like something was there behind me. Even after waking up, the back of my neck still felt cold and numb for a little while. The weirdest part is that I don't even believe in paranormal stuff or demons or any of that. So while it was happening, I knew it had to be a nightmare or sleep paralysis or something, but it felt way too real. Like my brain couldn't tell the difference between the dream and reality. Oh, okay, well, you know what? I refuse to dwell on that one, that's horrifying. I don't like that, you know, normally I'm like, oh, I love to hear a skeptic story. I don't like that this person's like, Yeah, I don't believe in all that number. jumbo but this one you know what's the explanation guys I'm scared also I will say this whenever we say it's like the in between sleep and awake and it's like a hallucination blah blah blah yeah that could be very true for this one because their alarm went off it started to wake them up but it's like their body didn't wake up and it was still in sleep so I'm just gonna stick with that this was not paranormal this was a time in between sleep and awake and that's just what it is and I can't say anything else about that okay well I'll say one more thing the reason I ended on this one is because they fought back and they were able to get it away and so I though it was horrifying frightening the speed really got me oh my god really got me though that was all terrifying they were able to fight back and pull themselves out of it yeah and I like that by like ending like that and that it lost its control and even its expression changed its shadows expression changed yeah it realized it lost all control and if opie wasn't feeding it fear anymore that's good that's really good thank you well I hope wherever you are whatever you're doing whatever time of day or night it is you are sufficiently spooked just like Natalie is I can feel it off you I'm not even spooked I'm just sick to my stomach about all of this it's not even it's not even scared it's just like how dare you you're beyond yeah so like this video if you liked it share it with your friends if you feel compelled to do so and subscribe for more we've got a list of stories episode coming on Friday sort of related to the topic and we've got more read stories coming for the month of August like I said before it's like our our pregame into spooky season I'm excited so we've got a lot of really good really scary stories coming your way I'm ready you can also join our patreon if you'd like to patreon.com/ghosties or you can catch and a bonus episode today we've got an extra episode coming out so if you want something something woo woo something spiritual something fun to kind of ease out of this you can go join that follow us on instagram @ghostiespod and also if you have a story that you'd like to share with us you can email us it's [email protected] it's also written down in the description we want to hear your stories send them in you have a sleep paralysis if you have anything adjacent if you have something that you don't feel like it's that big of a deal trust me it's a big deal we want to hear it so you can send our way other than that we will see you on Friday goodbye

Summary:

People on Reddit's sleep paralysis subreddits suggest various methods to pull yourself out of it faster. One common tip mentioned is starting with your toes and wiggling them to break free.

The hosts say it's not always paranormal, but there are instances that point in that direction, such as when someone experiences it for the first time in a haunted home or when it's accompanied by physical phenomena.

One host believes mirrors can act as portals in some instances, though not always open. A story mentioned a mirror facing the bed, which was linked to sleep paralysis experiences.

Common hallucinations include seeing shadowy figures, entities with distorted faces, hearing voices or sounds, feeling pressure on the body, and experiencing sensations like being touched or dragged.
