Speaker 2Well, I probably stole one of the young fellas, Tom Hanley's goal in the first quarter there when it was deliberate. So maybe a bit of karma bus come my way. But I'm happy enough to set a few up as well as kick five.
Speaker 5No, very good. Now, we're not here to recap AFL, albeit we would love to.
Speaker 1And we would be here all day because of what a sensational performance it was. But Royal Randwick Rail was out. Three metres. How did you think the track played overall in obviously doing your review there? Paps, were you happy with it?
Speaker 2Yeah, I think the track itself, maybe in the straight lanes one to two, but I think the wind was the main issue there. You wanted to sort of get some cover and even in the straight, get cover and then peel late the last 200 metres and hit the line hard. I thought, I think tempted was very good. Obviously, even like the run of Headwall, that was the sort of run you wanted to cover, cover, then go bang. Yeah. And I think even just reading, like the wind was changing a lot. Even it was a cyclone at the SCG at one point. So kicked into the wind, then it was downwind. It was like playing at New South Wales. It was crazy. Because then even like Lindemann sort of went at a very slow tempo. But I think the wind might even change that race. I don't know what was going on. But yeah, you definitely wanted to find cover most of the day.
Speaker 1Yep. Horses to follow from that meeting, Paps. So I'll kick off, I think, Charwolf, just if you can just get to anywhere, right? Jenny goes, Charwolf, just find some speed. He is absolutely low flying. So stick with him. Obviously, Tempted and Headwall, they were both exceptional there on Saturday. Hedley Grange, good to see him back in good form. But Charwolf was clearly the horse I want to follow. And I think Decorum, he's far better than Benchmark 78 grade. Barrett Gary was exceptional in the midway. So follow him. So a lot of winners that I'm going to follow. And so you are. I was happy to pop. This horse, I was with the Budgie Smuggler. He's gone enormous. And he's gone quick. Ended with a breeze, you would think. He's gone quick. I think he just broke their hearts. Might have a future. It's a very good win. Fourth start, third or fourth start for Bjorn. So you are. Barrett and Gary, you could definitely follow those horses for sure. And Charwolf, Matty Campbell, horses to follow. Anything from you?
Speaker 3Apart from the obvious, a couple that you mentioned there, Headwall and Charwolf, a couple that are not so sort of highly rated. Race 5 Unleashing, back sort of held up. Held up at that 300 to 200 metre mark. And then finally got free and finished well with a nice closing split to finish second. That was first up, or second up, went from 1,200 to 1,500 quickly. So that was first up 1,200. So I'm getting my horses mixed up here. Last prep won at third and fourth up at 1,550 and 1,600. So stick with Unleashing. And Striking Alibi, lightly raced filly from Perth, really caught the eye. Just storming home for third at just third start. So there were a couple that, I'll follow in my black book.
Speaker 1Love that Striking Alibi. Pap, seen anything?
Speaker 2Yeah, probably one that we haven't mentioned was Beeb and was very impressive back. This horse sort of, at Gold Coast that day on the heavy track, went absolutely enormous with J-Mac on and won by, jeez, I think it was eight lengths or something in the end. Maybe it was four or eight lengths, I don't know. But, and then since then hasn't really done much, but I thought the run on the weekend was its best run, especially on dry ground. So hopefully that horse can keep going in this prep. I thought just, Chael Wolfe was enormous. I think this is the best he's ever gone.
Speaker 1Yeah, he's flying.
Speaker 2Um, so follow him wherever he goes, and Decorah.
Speaker 1Uh, look, I still want to bat, I still want to wait for him to be fourth up. Unless we get, unless we can follow a Pride of Journey. So, um, but he'll be winning and we'll get a good price about him as well.
Speaker 2Even like a, even a light infantry man. Yeah, that'll help. Um, there's another one that sort of could put speed on, but yeah, he's flying. I was, I was, we were sort of chatting, weren't we, about the slow tempo. He just doesn't go, but he's gone the last two times. Enormous with the slow tempo.
Speaker 1Super. Look, if Lindemann wasn't in that race, you could have entertained having a bet. But, um, when Nash is out there, Lindemann doing, doing his thing, he'd be very, very hard to beat. Speaker 2I thought she was pretty brave. I thought she was tough as well. Like, I know she didn't win, but she did dig in late, which was, I thought was a good sign of horse that really wants to have a go and...
Speaker 1I don't think she'll win a Coolmore and that'll be her next target. She'll be then saved for a autumn campaign and maybe that's where it comes. Brycey?

Speaker 1Well, Pat, so we see this rail go out, and more often than not, when it goes out, you want to be up and in close to as close to the rail as you can get. Top six in run, generally. The rule. And just have a look at the irrigation, because sometimes that can play its part. None in the last 24 hours. Seven mills will last seven days, so not a whole lot. And you wouldn't imagine there'd be too much irrigation applied to this track. 18 degrees, 20 degrees, 22 degrees. So it probably might chuck another mill on a day just to sort of keep it in the good four range. But with the rail out five metres, 11, 12-metre start points, perhaps I think you definitely want to be rails in run. And if you can't find rails in run, you want to be top six in transit. 1,300 metres, much the same. 1,300 metres and beyond, fair enough. But just don't be shocked, though, if you do see a hot rail there on Saturday, because this is a set-up where it is more than likely to come. Now, we're going to kick off in race number six. This is the Ming Dynasty, Matty. We'll get a market read there, courtesy of Mera.
Speaker 3Thank you, Gano. It's $4.20 to field. Genesis Runner in from $5. Omnia Huckleberry's been in the drift. It did open favourite at $3.80. It's now $4.60. Some money for Tenenbaum, $8.00 into $6.00. Stormy Marco, $6.50. Bagram, $7.50. Then a gap in the market to Hedrix, although it's been a little bit of specking forward at $13.00. $14.00 Persian Wonder, $15.00 Piedmont, and then $26.00 the rest. So, favourite Genesis Runner.
Speaker 1Interesting market move. And it'll be interesting to have a look at these market moves as well across this card, even into Saturday morning, if it's for the horses that are drawn low and sort of map positive, because I'd expect that to be the case. Omnia Huckleberry, interesting runner, gets here off a Wyong win. I noticed in the all-in markets earlier in the week, it was favourite, so that's interesting. It'll roll forward here. See an agreement, 53.5 kilos. Genesis Runner won't be too far away. Tenenbaum comes out of a Canterbury. Benchmark 64, it won't be too far away. Savagram can't be too far away. And you'd imagine Host Wing King will press forward. It went forward from a wide draw last time. So, fair amount of speed here, perhaps over 1,400 metres, and it's going to be a pretty true test for a lot of these horses.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's an interesting race. It's a lot of upside you've got to sort of predict, and it can be a bit hard with them. He's a three-year-old going up to 1,400 metres. And like Savagram, Timmy Clark sticks on, was absolutely steamed in bedding last start. Was that a little flat second up? How would that horse go? But the one I sort of landed on was Genesis Runner. Kieran McEvoy, low draw, 53 kilos. Was pretty good first up. 1,400 metres will suit again. And I know the stable are keen. But look, Tannenbaum's and also another good chance, that upside piece as well. So Genesis Runner on top in a tricky race. And I think, like you mentioned the track, if the track is up and in really hard, I think Genesis Runner is certainly one. And I'll be betting if that is the case.
Speaker 1Just an easy bet to have, I think, because you're going to be in the right spot. I think Stormy Marco could be the best horse in the race moving forward. Well, in the markets for a derby, I thought it was probably too good, too classy for a derby. So I don't really understand that. I know there's a few good judges pushing it that way, but he's probably a bit too good for a derby, a bit too classy. But Genesis Runner, the horse that's sort of right place, right time and can win. And I thought Persian Wonder is very much over the odds, Matty. So if you're looking for a place bet, I think you're going to have something on the seven. But the nine on top, the seven there is a place bet for me. How do you see the Ming Dynasty?
Speaker 3Yeah, on a day that I found pretty tough, and I know Tom did as well, in a day that I'm not sort of going to declare many that I'd like to have a bet, I will bet on Genesis Runner. So I agree with what you guys have said, in particular what Tom said about if you want to be up and in. I just like the last 200 and that up and coming. Second first up, staying at 53 kilos. Second up in... In his first prep, and I think the 1,400 might suit.
Speaker 1Love that. Move on to race number seven. This is the Scirocco Stakes for Phillies and Mayors Group 2. And a market courtesy of Betar.
Speaker 3Lazura is your favourite at $3.20. Good money for Lazura early. Weeping Woman at $4.20. Just gone out a little bit. Lady Shenandoah is right there at $5.50. Apocalyptic, six. A drifter. Gangster Granny, nine. No money for that. Plaintiff, 16s into 10s, been best bet at double-figure odds. Then you've got Savvy Halley, 18, quiet, $41 the rest. So not too many chances, but they're specking a couple.
Speaker 1Very amount of speed here. Start them from out wide. That's Adrian Bott, Gay Waterhouse, trained galloper. I expect them to be really positive from an awkward start point. And if you're not positive, you're three wide and you're in a bit of strife. So they'll be handlebars down. You'd imagine Rachel King, Savvy Halley, Nashra Willer has speed and 11 to 1,200 metres. Perhaps you'd imagine that. Nash will want to be positive on her Weeping Woman. Of course, it was pretty good to us its last few preparations. Only got one run out of it there in the autumn, but it was a winning return in the Triskay. They'll be positive there. And Gangster Granny, what do you do with a gangster? She has speed as well. And I think it sets up beautifully for Apocalyptic to land, if not leaders back, you'd imagine three pairs back the fence, which generally as a rule is never great, but it's pretty good, Rocio. 12 to 1,200 metres, perhaps.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's a few angles here. Weeping Woman, I mentioned that horse before, Joe Pryor. Can he get that horse to improve again? And if he does, it's a very, very good chance we'll roll forward. Lazura, just that last prep first up run turned me off the horse a little bit. Just folded over 1,300 metres, headed Sinso that day. And that's just a short quote. So I sort of didn't want to take the price of Lazura, but I'm forgiving of Gangster Granny. I don't want, I know it's a, you're wrong, but at $9.50, $9.50, I don't want the horse to go around and win. But I wouldn't be surprised if it ran terrible as well. But just the SP had a bad day, was slow away, got cut off in mid-run, gets Dylan Gibbons here, barrier four, that $3.60 SP is going to land leaders back. And at $9.50, just trusting the SP and a few things went wrong, I'm going to have, if I was, just a little $10 bet, if I'm a $50 punter.
Speaker 1Okay, that's fair. Look, and you make a good enough case. Did you say $9?
Speaker 2$9.50, I think you're getting.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's fair enough. That's fair enough. I think Apocalypse jumps out of the ground here. I know all the punters were off. We were against her because of the race shape and the way we thought it was going to unfold. And it did unfold that way. I don't think she's 1,100 metre horse. I think 12, 13, 1,400 is where we're going to see the best of her. She gets here. I thought she was really good, to be honest, with everything going against her. She got within a length that time. She now draws to absolute perfection. Tommy Berry, inside draw, if we're not leaders, is back. We'll end up three pairs of fence for the number three Apocalyptic. And I think that she can win this race, Matty, and we're getting the right price to find out.
Speaker 3Look, I'm not hugely keen on the race, but I just deferred to the class runner, which I think is Lady Shinandoa, even though it's been 545 days since she's actually saluted. But, I mean, this is a much different race to coming back from the Winx, where you race against the best horses in the country. That was on soft. Never been competitive on soft. All five of her wins have been on a good track. She's prepped second up, ran third to Jolie Star and Bayvark, which isn't too bad for me. So, I have a little bit on Lady Shinandoa. That means that St. Gothard could end up in the 1-1, but also could end up sort of two pairs back running line. Either way, he gets a really good map, as does Century Europe, gets that really valuable rails-y run position. And if they don't go quick, he might be a little bit disadvantaged because he can over-race. However, he will end up leaders back if they don't go quick. And if they go quick, I think that's the best-case scenario. He ends up three pairs back the fence, and he'll get every possible chance. I'd imagine in the home straight for Zach Lloyd, who we saw his commitment the other day on, I guess, house, perhaps. I think he'll be able to rinse and repeat here.
Speaker 2Yeah, I think we're right about the price of St. Gothard. It's going to be interesting what happens on race day, but just at the price, it's very short.

So I'm interested to see what Rachel King does there with that galloper, and if she can get him close enough, maybe he is a fighting chance, at least for running a place, Paps.
Speaker 2Yeah, for sure. I thought end cap was a great place bet. It's pretty short now. First up, he did bounce out of the barriers and landed just two lengths off him and nearly ran a career peak. First up over 1,300 metres here at Randwick. I know it's Rose Hill, but I think he might be able to land three pairs back. You never know. Good form line. Jolly start. Baywalk. It's like the Grange. The first three runs last week were all group ones. Scary. But, yeah, I think on top, I've had to tip Skyhook on top, but as a betting point of view, I don't really want to back it at that price. But, yeah, I thought Skyhook on top, and if end cap can drift out a little bit, might have to bet the place.
Speaker 1End cap can win. Midnight in Tokyo can win. Skyhook can win. Honestly, it wouldn't shock to see any of these horses win this race, Matty. So, I'll just sit back, and I might just have a cold beer at this stage. What time is it? 4.40 in the afternoon.

We've got around the grounds and a fair bit more to cover before the show is finished. But Ruination, the Blade, Pillow Fight, Eagle Express, they all have speed, but they're not exactly, you know, super fast horses as such. While Rob Ford, I'd say, even tempo, 1,200 metres in Ruination, perhaps his horse, Tommy Berry, gets on, was really good winning at Canterbury. Drops significantly in weight, 4 kilos, of course. Has to go up in grade. No superstars here. Your mate, Sovereign Hill lands, of course. Eagle Express was good to us as well. She was good to us, but I think Ruination's the most progressive galloper in the race. I think he gets the job done. How do you see it?
Speaker 2Yeah, I think we were speaking, Gunner, just the amount of prices that have been knocked off here is extraordinary. Sorry about that. But, yeah, Sovereign Hill, I thought it was looking for 1,300 to 1,400 metres. Now it got headed 1,200 metres and then really dug in. I just thought 1,400 metres would have suited perfectly, but, look, it's a gay bot. You can't really judge them. They know what they're doing, not me. But Eagle Express just gets the gun run, but, yeah, Ruination on top for sure.
Speaker 3Matty? Ruination on top, but also I'm going to have something on Navy Pilot at $21. Goes pretty good fresh. Last two wins have been on a good surface, which it gets. Won a trial. The claim helps. Drawn well. Does get a bit back, but can be a bit closer in the run. So, you know, I'll get about probably $4 or $5 a place on the day as well. So maybe one by three on Navy Pilot as well.
