Speaker 1I go off the road, don't stand on the toe, jacked on a hoe, ramble and roll, so what flies in the eyes again, I think I feel alive again, oh
Speaker 2Yes, hello and welcome to the Sydney set. Mick Gannon, Peter Anthonis, Matty Campbell with you. We're all here thanks to Betar. Betar, head of the game, what are you really gambling with? Good afternoon to you gents down in there in the Melbourne studio. Peter Anthonis, we'll kick off with you. Good afternoon to you, mate.
Speaker 3Mick Gannon, good afternoon to you. Good afternoon to everyone at home, Matty Campbell as well. What a fantastic week we've got ahead and we're just getting right into the thick of things. This is the most exciting time of year if you're a racing fan, if you're a punter and if you're not doing the form until midnight, well you're probably not working hard enough to be honest. There is that much to do at the moment.
Speaker 2What are you doing, Matty Campbell, if you're not watching racing?
Speaker 4That's a very good point. This time of year, I mean, I think I've said a couple of times, I get annoyed when people start talking AFL trades. It just gives me the irrits because it's racing. It's racing season, people. So I'm glad that silly trade period that I didn't pay any attention to is over. We're coming off one of the great weekends in racing in both states, but it keeps going. It's another great day.
Speaker 2Shout out to our friends downstairs, Hutchie and Cam Luke and Co. with their beautiful trade radio show. But this is the Sydney set and we're here to find you winners over this weekend. And of course, the Cox Plate is taking centre stage down there at Flemington. So we'll touch on that later on in the show. But let's talk all things Everest, Matty. You were up in Sydney. Is this your second Everest or third Everest?
Speaker 4Third, yes. The best one yet? Yeah, I think so. I've copped a few sprays from the traditionalists and I would suggest that I am one because Derby Day was always my favourite day. It's my wedding anniversary. I took everyone to Derby Day for my wedding. But just the build up. And it's not just the Sweet Caroline. It's the build up the day before. It's the build up to the race. You're arriving at the track. It's just a sensational day. And it's a sensational race. And we saw a great edition of the race.
Speaker 2Did they get it right this time, Matty? Because I remember last year it was almost impossible to get a drink and you're lining up for 90 minutes. Obviously, you would have been behind the bar. When you're in the Dom Perignon room. What did the battlers say? I didn't even go.
Speaker 4I walked past them on the way in. I walked past them on the way out.
Speaker 2Did G Hall walk past you at any stage? Can you go any higher than where you were? Or was that basically you guys were on the same level?
Speaker 4Yeah, we're in the good part of the road.
Speaker 2Unbelievable. Hey, Pete, we're down there in the Mount Yard, just grinding away in these two legends of the game, doing their best. Pete, what did you make of the Everest?
Speaker 3Look, I thought the spectacle probably eclipsed what I thought the race might have been. And part of that is probably the result, let's be honest. But it just adds a little bit more intrigue, a little bit more mystique to the whole K-Ying Rising story, to the arrival and to the improvement of Tempted over the last year. And, you know, I think everyone. Everyone's had an opinion on the race, and that includes, you know, David Hayes and Zach Burton and all of us form analysts. And, you know, just getting the stewards' vision versus the drone vision, you can basically change your opinion depending on what angle you're looking at on the race. And really, I think that's just added to the overall status of the race. And it's clearly the best sprint race. I've had my own knocks on it previously because I think it basically dilutes and just makes every other lead-up race irrelevant. There's just a whole heap of barrier trials and all these stables just targeting the one race. Anything before and afterwards is just. Just an afterthought. But I don't think you could get better than this year and probably last year as well. I think it's been a great little bookend for what is becoming the best sprint race, arguably, in Australasia.
Speaker 2Do you think that that's become a bit of a trend in racing, though, Pete? Like, remember Antino's preparation last year going towards a Cox Plate and, you know, Charwolf being aimed at one particular race? Is that just a thing that trainers tend to be doing more these days? They're just having genuine targets and everything else is just a lead-up into it?
Speaker 3Well, I think that's why, in part, I'm so. I've gravitated so much towards Cosmic Crusaders prep because they basically have just treated every race. It's like a really old school, 30 years ago. Like, you used to see these horses and, like, the footage. I wasn't, you know, I wasn't old enough to be following the racing in the 90s and the early 2000s. But you'd see these horses that just target grand final after grand final. They just keep going until they basically say, I've had enough. And it's really one of those old school preparations for Cosmic Crusader where they're just throwing everything at him and just seeing how good he is. And I think you're absolutely right. I think a lot of trainers would basically rather have a horse peaking on the. day and giving it no excuses, assuming they don't get into, you know, any. held up in the straight or anything like that. But that's the way it feels. It's basically all in on one target now.
Speaker 2It's interesting game, playing that game, isn't it, mate? Yeah. Because a lot of people are playing that game. And then you see a horse like Antino, I think, started favourite in a Cox Plate and didn't run well and has done really nothing since. We use him as an example. There are plenty of examples of it. But do you think it makes the form harder knowing that these horses going through even Group 1 races, Group 2 races? They're not completely screwed down?
Speaker 4I just think you've got to come from a different angle at times and sort of get a feel for what trainers are trying to do with their horses and suggest that, you know, that there's target races for some trainers and you've got to take that on board. And so I think, you know, I think some trainers are different than the others and we've got to be aware of that. So it just adds another layer to when you're doing form.
Speaker 2Just makes it a little bit harder. I think we'll do. We've got a 3-2-1. We've got the scouting. We've got the stewards report coming up. I want to. We're going to dissect the Everest, but I want to go to the stewards. We'll go to the stewards room first because I think it's important we do that. I've got a feeling that Kanyang Rising and Zach Purton might come up in there. So we might dissect the race post that. Bryce, take us to the stewards room.
Speaker 5All right. Welcome into the stewards room. Mick, Pete and Matty. It's been another big week in racing. And of course, how do we do this segment? Mick, you're going to let us know. I'm going to go to you first with all the questions. And what do we do when I give you a statement in racing? It can't be that hard.
Speaker 2Yeah, lads. We've done this a few times. We've done this a few times now. Dismissed if you disagree. Upheld if you agree. And at the end, we'll have a chat about it. We'll go myself. We'll go Matty. Then we'll go Pete. Okay. Tempted should head
Speaker 5to Royal Ascot next year.
Speaker 4Upheld? Upheld. It seems the obvious to me.
Speaker 3Yeah, upheld. I want everyone to get on the plane. I want Autumn Glow there. I want to get going.
Speaker 4It's a good point, though, isn't it? The more we get there, the better. Yeah, I'll be booking until we get to suit as we go.
Speaker 3I'm already keen. It's a great year. You've got the ashes there. You've got Wimbledon as always.
Speaker 5M. Gannon and a few of the track team are heading there anyway, so. I've settled down.
Speaker 2Yeah, we will be there. It'll be good. It'll be good. So I think sometimes we forget that this is a competition. Like, we're racing horses to win races, and I'd love to see her competitive over there. All right. Go on, Bryce.
Speaker 5A gay waterhouse Flemington Cox plate won't feel the same for her as winning one at Moonee Valley.
Speaker 4Dismissed. Um, upheld.
Speaker 3I'll say dismissed. She'll take what she can get in regards to Cox plate.
Speaker 4There's just something about the Cox plate at the Valley that is more special than what we'll see tomorrow. Don't get me wrong. Whoever wins the Cox plate deservedly group one winner, and we could see a terrific race with the three-year-olds really to the four. But the atmosphere that we get at Moonee Valley was unique. The buildup to the race with that amphitheater was unique. And I think Flemington. As good a track as it is, is different.
Speaker 3I actually can't disagree with that. And I must say I've missed the Valley this spring. I've really missed going out there on a Friday night. You know, I always complain about having to do it. You do the only one. Yeah. Well, I mean, that's it. But once you're there and once you get the atmosphere and the buildup, some of those big races and you just hear the, the roar of the crowd start at one end of that straight and just ripple down as the horses go past. Like pride of Jenny there in the fan is probably about as big a roar as I've heard on course. And that was only eclipsed by then versus Dana just somehow getting over the top. And Buckaroo late and the crowd going absolutely ballistic in the last ever race there. You just hope fast forwarding five years, we've got the same atmosphere there at the Valley once again.
Speaker 4Surely that's their number one priority to create that atmosphere because that's, that was Mooney Valley's ticket of, uh, you know, against everything else because it had a lot at fault, didn't it?
Speaker 2Yep. Absolutely. Pete, I know we don't have to never have to worry about this again. Hopefully not. But tell me how a track could just play what seemingly felt so hard on a Friday night, not hard as in surface, but just betting wise on a Friday night. And then so easy on a Saturday. Well, I think was it, what was, what happened at that joint?
Speaker 3I think you've always got to remember those Friday night meetings is that you had a lower standard of horses and that's been, you know, kind. So a lot of the horses that can settle on pace or have momentum there at a key stage going into the straight are just so difficult to get past. And then Saturday, all of a sudden you get far more tempos. You get a better standard of horses coming from the back and building runs and it just flips itself on its head. And really it is just a momentum track. That's the way I've always been. I've always described it. So I don't know. I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays in the future, but it won't be the same. So I'm kind of a bit sad to say that, but at the same time excited because if they get it right, it could be one of the best racing tracks in Australia.
Speaker 5That's why he's the best price. Okay. The golden Eagle and the Cox plate shouldn't be run so close together.
Speaker 4Dismissed. Yeah. I'd have to say dismissed.
Speaker 3I'll go upheld for something that's a little bit different, but that's, I also love a quick backup horse and horses that can target one grand final going into another. So I don't know. I'm a bit disappointed that we don't see more of it, but yeah, I'll, I can understand why it's there.
Speaker 2I think the competition is good for the game state for state and I'd love us to come together and at some stage iron it all out and there'd be two weeks between those races or whatever it may be, but we're talking 1500 meters and 2000 meter races, right? They're different races. I think they're different races.
Speaker 5Yep. Okay. Every city cup. So Sydney cup, Adelaide cup, Brisbane cup should get you a golden ticket in the Melvin Cup. Upheld.
Speaker 4I'll say dismissed because times have changed.
Speaker 3Yeah, I'll say dismissed. That's purely because I've seen too many Perth Cups over the years and just thought, oh, how's he seen one?
Speaker 2But don't you think, Pete, that that might encourage, look, it may not timing-wise, but it might encourage better horses to race in that race and you might get something from the Eastern Sea Board or maybe potentially someone from South Australia, you know, pop across and you just might get better quality racing in these Cups and staying racing in Australia is, you know, let's be honest, with the exception of the Melbourne Cup and the Caulfield Cup, half on the way out, we see so many internationals, you know, get in these fields. I think it adds to the narrative, it adds to the story if you can have more local runners in these fields and who knows, you might even get an international runner come out early, Pete.
Speaker 3Yeah, look, I think from that perspective, that's actually a very valid point. The narrative around Australian stayers and being able to train them for the Australian, you know, grand final staying event has seemingly been, has been lost or diluted to a very large extent over the last 15 to 20 years and I think anything we can do to try and encourage the training of stayers in this country is good for the game going forward, but you're looking at some of these staying races being downgraded and I think it's only going to get more prevalent over the next 10 to 15 years. It might be an uphill battle, but I guess it's all part of the puzzle, right? We've got to work out how this sport is being administered going forward and what races we actually need to pump up and protect and try and bolster at the same time.
Speaker 5And the final one, Zach's ride on K-Ying Rising gave the horse every possible chance in the Everest.
Speaker 4Dismissed. Dismissed, not every.
Speaker 3Yeah, dismissed. I've gone through the numbers and really, if he was more aggressive early, if he's settled three wide, no cover, I think he wins, regardless.
Speaker 2Oh, so glad to hear it.
Speaker 3I mean, look, if you'd told me when we were doing the show last week, Gano, that Tempted was going to be more forward at the 600 and the 400 than K-Ying Rising, I've assumed he's like stood in the gates or, you know, something catastrophic has happened. But going through his early speed, he's at least four or five times in his last 12 starts, he's been able to go faster early and actually cross and lead a race in Hong Kong. Now, I know it's a completely different track and he may not have traveled there on the Randwick surface early. He might have felt a little bit sticky underfoot, but they haven't gone as fast as they could have. And I feel like if he was ridden with superior intent, he could have even crossed to the front. And even if he settles off the fence and he just hacks around the straight, the way he finished off was incredible. He's a big flashing light, that K-Ying Rising. I want to see where he goes. Yeah, I put it in the black book.
Speaker 2A lot was made that, oh, you know, he's never gone as fast as he did or he's gone as fast as he did. So there's conflicting sort of evidence and discussion around that. What I will say is there was a decent tailwind out of that shoot start as well, Pete. And I think that that sort of assisted the raw sexual times that everyone's sort of reading off as well. But I think if you're talking about a horse and you have to consider the price of this horse and the previous performance of this horse, you know, if you just talk about this run in isolation as a $21 shot, was it a good ride? Well, that's a different discussion. I don't think that's the discussion we're talking about. We're talking about the world's best sprinter here. And everyone says, well, you know, it was a right ride under the circumstance, but he lost, Matty. He lost the race. And that's all you want to lean on is, did you win or did you lose? And the fact that if it was a good ride or gave the horse the best opportunity to win, I think we can, it's fair to say that he didn't on this occasion. If he had his time over, he would have won. He would push forward. And you know what? Run out of petrol is fine if you're going to get beat because what's the odd saying? If you're not first, you're last.
Speaker 4Well, it also leads into, I agree with what Peter said, but it probably leads me into when we get to 3-2-1 about the performance of the jockey on the other horse.
Speaker 2Yeah. With some performance carding arising to finish second, Pete.
Speaker 3Well, I mean, he's lost 1.3 lengths from the eight to the six. He looked like he was in all sorts of trouble top of the straight, and he still somehow managed to find and just rattle off splits late. But look, for a leader, for an on pace horse, they are as good. There's any splits in the race, really. So look, it's some performance. But as I said, it adds to the story, doesn't it? I mean, I don't think I'm going to shed a tear for Ka-Ying Rising and the Connections running second in a $20 million race. But yeah, I can't wait to see more of him. Hopefully they travel him again. Can't wait to see him next year.
Speaker 2Yeah, exactly. What do you make of this? So it's slowest horse from the 1,000 to the 600 meters, that 400 section or split, the slowest horse in the race. You can see he was being under a stranglehold trying to find cover, Pete. That's not his racing style. He's a free-flowing athlete. He likes to sort of just roll along in front. And from my perspective, I would have liked to see him run out of carrots and be attacking the line the way he was and going, well, you know what? We got beaten by the barrier today. If that was the case, I'd be shocked if that was the way it turned out. Even as exceptional as performance as Tempted was and as an exceptional ride as it was from Tempted, you know, sorry, from Chad on Tempted, Pete.
Speaker 3Oh, look, I was just happy that I got a better price in the first four dividends. So I actually don't mind. Would you box them all up? Yeah, I didn't have, obviously, Jolly Star and Headwall in for first and second, but I just basically stood out Tempted and Ka Ying just in case. Too good. Yep, anyway.
Speaker 2We copped a whack on socials for throwing Headwall in our exotics, but it turned out all right, Matty.
Speaker 4Yeah, no, it turned out fine. And just before they jumped, I thought, I haven't had a bit in the race. I've got to have a bit in the race. All right, I'll just throw a little bit on Tempted.
Speaker 2Yep, love it. Well done. And you got a good price as well. Yeah, waited till the end. That's the beauty of it. All right, three, two, ones for the week that was. Matty, kick us off.
Speaker 4Right, three, two, ones. One vote to Bjorn Baker for what he's done with Unleashing. Last prep, won a benchmark 64, benchmark 78. This prep's second in a 78, second again in a benchmark 78. Then he's won a benchmark 94 and now a group three. This horse is just flying. Two votes to David Anderson, the track manager and his team to get that track to a soft five after all that rain. Well done, gentlemen. That was just brilliant to watch. Three votes to Chad Schofield for his ride on Tempted. To be so proactive early, put that horse in that right spot and then go while everyone was caught napping was just sheer brilliance and the ride won the race.
Speaker 3Pete? Minus one vote to the Australian cricket team selectors. I would have given Matt Renshaw two votes last week, but we didn't do the three, two, one. So minus one for the Australian cricket team selectors, all out for 99, 13 wickets in one day, just full credit. Minus two votes. The crowds have never been bigger at the races, but look, the young kids that are yelling, at horses as they go out onto the track or into the mounting yard is just absolutely doing my head in. I saw it again at Caulfield. I saw it about three or four times at Flemington last year during Cup Week and something is going to go wrong eventually and it's not going to be a great sight. So the only yelling we want at the track is the old man yelling at the clouds, which is basically me right now. And then three votes is just doing the form at the moment. It is absolutely the best, I guess, month we could have asked for. We've got tracks coming off all different sort of conditions, all sorts of bias, all sorts of different, race shapes and patterns, and it just culminates in a Cox Plate field, which is as good, as competitive a race as I've done the form for in probably five years.
Speaker 2Beautiful. Three points, Chad Schofield. Two points, the ATC Racing North Wales for what was the Everest. And one point to Carl Junger, I think, because that was as good a run, given the circumstance, as you will see in a Group 1. When the greats bet they bet with better, better ahead of the game, what are you really gambling with for free and confidential support visit gamblinghelponline.org The Randwick Track Pattern races 5 through 9, the Cox Plate, the Sydney set, the set shot, best bets all coming right up.
Speaker 1Welcome back to the Sydney set.
Speaker 2Nick Gannon, Peter Anthony, it's Matty Campbell with you all here. Thanks to better ahead of the game. What are you really gambling with? Randwick Track Pattern, all important track pattern as well. Well, the Weather Watch, first of all, Pete, there's been plenty of rain in the fall. The forecast, looking at the radar, it's all missed Randwick here this afternoon. I expect we'll be on a good four rail. It's going to be at six metres. We had a chat about this earlier on. Your thoughts on how you think the track will play?
Speaker 3Look, from what I can gather, you'd rather be on pace and preferably inside. I think wider barriers, horses that are going to be finishing in lanes eight plus are going to be, generally speaking, disadvantaged. So I think that suits the right horses on pace with the right run, first four, first five or so and run.
Speaker 2Beautiful. All right. Worse than midfield. No good. What are you thinking about maybe the 1,200 metre start points, 1,100 metre start points? Do you think they might play a little fairer historically? Have you got anything, any data on that?
Speaker 3I still think there's probably a little bit more of an even spread, you're right in saying that, out of the chute. Certainly the races that I have going over the longer distance ranges do seem to be even more polarised. But look, having said that, if there's not that much speed in some of these sprint races, I'd be very happy backing something on pace.
Speaker 2Makes for a tough enough day when all the horses I've found are going to send all midfield. So we'll wait and see how it plays. But we will just sit back and watch. We kick off in race number five. This is the Calender Presnell. And oh, mate. Oh, my old mate. Here he is, Central Europe, Matty.
Speaker 4Yeah. As soon as I saw it, I thought, hello. And open up favourite, but not to be. So it's out to second favourite now. So Why So Hard is 390 into 290. Central Europe, 380 out to 420. Omalong, $6. Lafitte, 650. Revengeance, 8. Then you've got $12 gridlock, $14. Harry, be good. And longer odds, the rest.
Speaker 2All right, speed map-wise, it is interesting. And I'll get your follow-up on this, Pete. But I'd imagine the 11 there, Spalpeen, will go with, can lead them up. Lafitte won't be too far away, memorised. But I don't really have any of those horses being competitive in the finish. Blink is first time for Lafitte. Central Europe's the one I want your thoughts on. And Why So Hard. So Central Europe comes through the premium form lines. be ridden a little closer and why so hard 12 to 1600 meters peter firstly your thoughts on what where why so hard and central europe map and then your tips for
Speaker 3the race look i haven't seen that much gate speed from why so hard so far i did settle i think in the breeze in one of the trials coming into this prep but perhaps didn't finish off as well as we've seen just settling worse in midfield so i suspect they just take their time with that horse and look central europe if i was the connections of that horse i would be just looking at why so hard and thinking i'm going to settle in front of you regardless of what happens just to make sure that you're behind me and run and you don't get the best of things and i have to try and you know run you down so i do think the speed looks particularly weak a bit iffy in this race and it wouldn't surprise if something like a revengeance or i don't even maybe a rocks or diamonds drawn wide tries to take it up and cross from wide but it does look a pretty messy and ordinary speed i'll put it that way more
Speaker 2questions than answers your tip for the race uh look
Speaker 3i've got why so hard on top but i don't really want to be jumping into the price as current i wanted a little bit more something with a three in front and really um i'm trusting central europe is just going to improve and somehow find the right race but i'm just still a little bit iffy on him doing that so yeah it's not exactly a betting race for me i'll put it that
Speaker 2way just give him a spell chris so we can all get a spell that's all i'm asking just give him a spell put him away he'll come back he'll grow out did you see him at caulfield is only a pretty light sort of type isn't he pete
Speaker 3no i look i missed the caulfield guineas meeting i was in perth so yeah him and war woven are the two that i really wanted to see on the day so unfortunately not
Speaker 2yeah it's interesting so look he brings the best four lines he deserves to be around that four dollar mark but the query is you know he's been up for a long time he's only a little thing so interesting if he can if he can run to his best i think he can win why so hard off that last start it was a very very good run it's probably the you know when you go deep dives the satana glow probably the form form yeah it's really good form the only query is here maddie 1200 to 1600 meters second up that's a massive query they're the two horses really can't be ultra confident on any of them i did shoot off a message to team hawks and they were pretty confident so i'll leave them with the four why so hard on top but oh i don't know it's
Speaker 4hard what are you thinking i think we're all in the same boat here we probably wanted a better price why so hard the stable is going pretty well at the moment they've hit some form so you wouldn't want to doubt that the fact they can get this from 12 to 1600 and i agree with the satana glow form central europe i mean you look at this form all you see is war woven war woven war woven um but yeah i'm not gonna have a bet now i wanted a better price same as peter for why so hard but i'm not doubting the hawk stable to get this horse
Speaker 2to 1600 all right that is a very very challenging call under presnell pete do you reckon anything can win from you know left field here is anything you kind of go all right there's one at a massive price we can throw in exotic so you think it's just a real straight
Speaker 3bat it's pretty much a straight bat for me i thought probably the most interesting of the different form races um was memorize at least we'll be on pace blinkers first time but still at the same time that's really sort of reaching to try and find something at a better price but perhaps memorize is given the map might be able to settle in the first four and just hang on there for third or fourth but that's uh more an exotic play than anything
Speaker 2yeah i thought the price i'm along was probably just a little short but you'd imagine third up might be ready to run a peak as well for chris waller it was interesting to see it here because they were keen to send it to a cool more at some stage as well so a fair bit going on in the calendar presnell as we move on to race number six it is the craven plate maddie and
Speaker 4lindemann is your favorite as expected but um we haven't up even money just a little bit of a drift out to two dollars thirty uh tom kitten's come in similar sort of price 380 into three dollars 50 plymouth seven has come in uh 750 for elias vivianne nine then you're out to 23 panova 26 for covalica portland 29 so it looks like lindemann v tom kitten i guess we'll
Speaker 2find out what happens with panova they're the best uh just keep doing it it's great uh elias lindemann roll four we saw what happened on last time lindemann leaves elias sits thereabouts and no real pressure here pete tom kitten i think if he's close enough he's good enough but will he be close enough
Speaker 3well that's probably the question isn't it because nash last time out just led them along slow tempo race and there's no real reason to think he'll go any quicker here um but does that mean that say plymouth and tom kitten are just towing up just in that midfield striking zone so if they're within say two to three lengths does that give tom kitten enough of a chance to actually run down lindemann late um i don't really know i don't think there's a great edge betting in this race as a result i've got lindemann probably a touch longer tom kitten a touch shorter but i don't really want to jump into this race as given the fact that lindemann's going to get absolutely every chance and likely a pattern in his favor as
Speaker 2well yeah they could be the only two possible for me lindemann you know he's got really good randwick figures so if you reference you know what he's been doing at randwick he's been doing a lot of randwick previously on a dry track which we expect to do you know he's a two from two winner at the track and trip so he ticks that box as well for those punters that love that sort of stuff so he'll be out in front making his own luck deserved favorite they go too slow which is rare for nash to get wrong you'd imagine they'll go slow then then he'll build from the 800 but if they do happen to do it and does fall asleep tom kitten can win maddie it's as simple as that i think you summed
Speaker 4it up beautifully it's not a race i want to bet into i'll just be watching and that is uh looks to be up to lindemann or if he's going to win i think he's going to win i think he's going to win tom can be close enough as peter said but not a race i'm keen on in fact i think it's a pretty poor group too to be
Speaker 2honest let's hopefully find a betting prospect in the group one spring champion stakes maddie it's
Speaker 4been interesting to watch the betting here so um global goal is really shortened up into 2.90 did touch 3.20 but they sort of took that fairly quickly so 2.90 proximate day is five dollars then you've got scirolli seven stormy marco has had some support 750 call me a nine wonka 11 and mind games 12 then you're out to 17 diameter and longer odds for persian wonder so global goal 290 favorite speed
Speaker 2map pretty obvious for me i think call me is going to roll forward i think proximate day is going to roll forward so those two will be out wide coming across scirol you would think we'd nash from a better draw and a horse that has been written positive more positively prior to last start can also settle top three and run so they're the three a few of these sort of come out of the same form lines uh pete the two horses i thought that would probably be best suited here stormy marco being one and global goal being the other your thoughts yeah
Speaker 3look i can't argue with either of those two um i just looking at the sps out of that gloaming i can't understand why cormier is suddenly say pushing that ten dollar mark and proximate day is half the price they basically started almost the same price there in the gloaming and uh the speed on cormier they just went way too slow jam the anchor there in the mid race you just got it completely wrong there up front so i think bullock back on board from the wide barrier and i think it's going to be a good start for the rest of the race i think it's going to be a good start for the rest of the race so i think it's going to be a good start for the rest of the just means they have to set more of a genuine tempo and again i think that's actually a really nice setup for this horse so around that ten dollar mark i wanted something on there and i thought the other horse they would just be tailing the speed was mind games and no idea what was happening there last time out badly held up in the straight and provincials but drawn barrier one timmy clark on board again should just be towing the speed so there's two there at double figures that i wanted to play in this race just no real knock there on global goal and proximate day and you know stormy marco a few of these other ones but i do think it's far more even on what we've seen on this race so i think it's going to be a good start for the rest of the on exposed form and figures than what the market's giving us credit
Speaker 2for yeah i think out of that gloaming stormy marco the only horse i want to take out of the race i just don't think was completely unsuited and made really good ground late sort of made that run and and came to an end but i think he gets his chance here albeit probably won't be suited to the pattern of the day although over 2 000 meters i'm not overly concerned this probably becomes down to just one of the you know if you ride the ride and time uh the run well enough you should get every possible chance and i thought global goals the other horses is going to map a little bit closer so i've got her on top i think that's the different form line and i want to take the the flight stakes and that form line in maddie so global goal on top stormy marco my second pick in the race i've
Speaker 4got global goal on top uh i just thought you know if we go back two runs to the t rows it was obvious the horse is looking for ground got there in time and the flight stakes i think diamus ran pretty well in the corfield guineas and that still also looks like a horse that's looking for more ground john sergeant 2000 that's a tick for me so global goal yeah i probably want a better price and i think i'll wait i think i'll get a better price before we jump but uh it's my top
Speaker 2pick this is the sydney set the invitation the five diamonds the cox plate best bets the full sydney set the set shot is up on the better app to get involved log into your better app there go to racing specials and away you go when the greats bet they bet with better better ahead of the game what are you really gambling with for free and confidential support visit gamblinghelponline.org.au hang with us welcome back sydney set no papley we've got peter anthonis maddie campbell mcgannon with you tom papley sending in photos from new york high rises uh this this afternoon living the dream over there isn't he maddie yeah i saw that photo i saw that photo i saw that photo i saw that photo i saw that
Speaker 4photo i thought oh lucky jammy bar yeah but i remember doing that same thing when it was a while ago but i remember doing the same thing sending photos from rooftop bars yeah appreciate
Speaker 2it perhaps we'll just hold the fort here mate you just keep doing you the invitation something we didn't get to new york uh is the next race race eight for us to cover at royal roundwick maddie
Speaker 4lazura three dollar twenty favorite jeringong has been backed into four dollar second favorite verona rose seven autoflyer eight perfumist eight tuileries 13 then you're out to 18 19 for stylish arabian rose twenty dollars or more the rest looking
Speaker 2forward to breaking this race down with you pete here perfumist can roll forward what do they do with idle flyer gerund gong and lazura those three horses if they go slow might struggle surely surely they all be positive yeah i
Speaker 3think that will be the case especially gerund gong with nash on um just got caught out three wide no cover there first up and i thought was really good that's overall figure i really gravitated towards but i think if gerund gong goes forward surely idle flyer just tries to tow that horse and then lazura probably a little bit more tactical they really need to make up their minds early as to what they want to do so i'm probably a little bit more iffy with uh with her but i really just thought this race set up for gerund gong starting to get a little bit short now but i thought the mid fours price or so that's probably what i'd be looking at i'm sure i'll get that on the day but just with nash going on i like the sp profile coming out of the nifson i know never met lazura or idle flyer for that matter but i just think this horse has come back in arguably as good a form as she's been in and may well have improved so that's the way i'll be going there
Speaker 2i have no idea what's going on with idle flyer but i thought she was going to be the most improved mares in the country and she has not done it this is d-day for her her and i will be seeing other people i think i'm running back to one sis prep but this will be the last time i back her if she doesn't win it isn't a setup that screams back me but i'm just with her class alone i hope that they overdo it i hope that she can just be midfield or just fought a midfielder on the back of jerry gong which i think she will be and i think that gets her every possible chance maddie at the price like if you had a said the group two or three prep two invitational i'll give you seven bucks about idle flyer at the start of the prep like just would have been unstoppable amounts of betting for me i think we just got to take it and just trust that maddie smith's going to get it right and she's going to get the right running transit she's on top look i
Speaker 4think lazura is going to be hard to beat because it's always runs well but i don't mind trulleries at that price around 13 dollars it's run was good behind jerry gong first up gets two and a half k turnaround yes gets a wide barrier but has a good second up record and there's a group three winner so i'll have two bets i'll save on the fave but i'll try and back something at value there number eight trulleries race number
Speaker 2nine is the money muncher prelude no it's the five diamonds prelude the market courtesy of betta maddie um all
Speaker 4right we've got um i'll just click the right one uh declishy boulevard three dollars 40 linebacker three dollars 60 evaporate 440 welcome to the show 650 and then it's a big gap to brave 117 and 20 dollars the rest so we're going to have to wait and see what happens next as far as the market's concerned there's only four in
Speaker 2it a few of these um struggle to get the job done here pete crystal clear evaporate roll forward athanada i should imagine will be a key speed influence but linebacker drawn to perfection low can't be too far away yeah exactly
Speaker 3right and i thought just the speed was so obvious here and from the barrier linebacker just has to use that gate early and just tail crystal clear if not tail just even settle outside the leader really if the speed isn't that strong i'd make evaporate work around you and then take a little bit of cover so for me i think it's a great barrier draw for linebacker this is just the horse that just profiles so well for this race i know he hasn't well he's not necessarily the most consistent type but i think often those runs where he gets worse than midfield and he has to make a little bit more of a move there on the corner i think when you just give him the speed and he can sit there and just accelerate in the straight and go in a straight line i think that's going to be far more suitable for him so i've got a mark clear favorite and somehow i've ended up with him as my best play on the day but uh like i can't i can't fault the horse otherwise i think i know he's not one of mine i'm not one of those weird linebacker guys that are always backing him so uh this is my first time
Speaker 4you're too small to be a
Speaker 3linebacker yeah
Speaker 2exactly i can see how he wins pete so hard to take you on to cleachy boulevard probably should have finished far closer in the epsom uh she can win the race with some sort of luck in trans but linebacker is the map horse maddie your tips for the five diamonds again a
Speaker 4two-bit play agree with everything you said about linebacker but also i think brave one's going to run a fair race at 17 so a little bit of value again for me to have a two-bit play
Speaker 2stay with us cox plate chat sydney set and the set shot coming right up welcome back to the sydney set gents time for your best bets at royal ram week pete kick us off yes
Speaker 3we just went through it but race nine on the yard linebacker number one love it
Speaker 4maddie i'm going against the dunn rowilla combination in the highway i'm going with ocean tsunami very unlucky first start zach lloyd goes on might be the key and in the last race it's not really a best bet but it's one of the worst races of all time ever seen the top way to start amistella wins because the others could all go backwards it might be the only horse that finishes the race i love your
Speaker 2thinking there maddie i'm gonna get race one number five kieran star just think that she this map sets up perfectly for her we're not looking for horses that want to set a worse than midfield but there's that much pressure in this race that i think she'll just be in behind them 54 kilos and sprint over the top of them late so i think race four number five kieran star and in the first just have a little bit of something on the horse uh number 10 animosa and i'm going to go with the horse number five kieran star and in the first it's been very well backed managed to get a bit of that on the way down i think you can have a bet on it i think he is a promising prom so she's a promising promising still seven dollars still seven dollars you little beauty cox plate let's talk about uh the cox plate pete just your thoughts on who wins the race well i need to
Speaker 3do a little bit more diving into this but the horse that i've immediately found straight off the bat which i'm surprised in myself is war woven i just think the map is so good for war woven here um there will be spade drawn out wide from light entry man and also from land legend you'd have to think they're just going to roll forward as they have done previously and uh look blind rays probably comes across sedelius but war woven just gets every opportunity just to stalk us a hot pace and that's gonna be hot pace that's right and that's the thing that really brought into the four in the golden rose i thought he was probably going to you know the tempo wasn't going to suit him last time out in the caulfield guineas but in the end the race shape was perfect but i'm not knocking him for that because he's already proven himself on the hot pace um so for me war woven it really looks a good year for the three-year-olds and i'm not i just do wonder if she's looking for 2400 but having said that if it's a fast run 2040 that might very well be able to bring her to the top and who's knocking chris waller so they're the two that i'm i'm really looking towards uh at this stage maddie i'm in the
Speaker 4same camp i'm looking at the three-year-olds of war woven and i'm even thinking blind rays of the place at sort of 350 360 um aliana has been set for the race we know that with chris waller he's got six cox plates but yeah with that genuine speed with both light infantryman and land legend you're going to go to it's going to set up nicely for those three roads i'm just
Speaker 2going to wait and see what the weather and yeah if it does
Speaker 4rain blind rays would prefer the rain
Speaker 2yeah see what the weather gods produced there on a saturday afternoon or probably even you know we might even know more with the forecast there tomorrow but it wouldn't shock to see these three-year-olds win the race so we'll definitely agree with both of you there aliana matt her map is being questioned by everyone does j mac not just follow land legend line infantryman and blind rays pete and just come and lob in the one one is that not what just happens there everyone's saying it's the worst
Speaker 3map in the world yeah and he can even just like even tail cosmic crusader because i suspect they'll try and be neutral with that horse and just slot in behind him at least he's going to take you into the race given it's a fast tempo event so look i don't think they need to get right back to last or anything like that but there's also just so many horses here that could kind of do anything there's a little bit of versatility in this map with horses like attrition and sedelius how aggressive will they be early will they be hunting up to try and get a spot or are they just happy to sit and tina effect will they string out early and then bunch up and it's going to be a fun race to
Speaker 2watch yeah it's going to be a great race to watch the full sydney set we'll go to royal ramic race one number 10 animosa race two number seven ocean tsunami race four number five kieran star race seven number eight global goal race nine number one linebacker and in the race that no one wants to win bar this horse race 10 number one astadio mustela uh gents it's been absolute pleasure and looking forward to doing it all again next week uh maddie you're going to have to wait for that what are you looking most forward to cox plate at flemington highlight yeah
Speaker 4cox plate at flemington would be interesting as i said at the top of the show it won't be the same as the valley but it's still a good race and uh looking forward to the three-year-olds and see how they go pete i know
Speaker 2you're just looking forward to finding plenty winners appreciate your time this afternoon mate looking forward to doing this all again next week gents we'll chat soon thanks thanks
