Survivor’ Season 50 Wrap-Up With Ethan! | The Pod Has Spoken
1h 37m 48s
This episode marks the celebratory wrap-up of Survivor Season 50, blending behind-the-scenes insights with fan reactions and behind-the-scenes drama. The red carpet experience, though marred by delays and miscommunication, is described as a memorable moment of fan connection, highlighting the show’s deep-rooted community. The return of the live finale is seen as a fan-favorite revival, reinforcing Survivor’s cultural significance. The episode introduces the "Open Era" as a potential new format, with speculation around two tribes and a single outsider, suggesting a shift in game structure. Product placements are acknowledged as a returning staple, with brands like Toyota, Corona, and Nintendo woven into the narrative in subtle yet impactful ways. Key twists like the power broker and family visit are praised for their emotional and strategic value, while other mechanics—such as the blood moon and hourglass—are criticized as chaotic and poorly executed. The discussion also explores future possibilities, including returning cast members, generational matchups, and enhanced fan engagement through live watch parties. Ultimately, the episode reflects on Survivor’s evolution, balancing its commercial realities with its enduring appeal as a community-driven, emotionally resonant experience.

we're back the pod has spoken our final pod of season 50 coverage that we know of for now i mean
we could i don't want to put like a definitive stamp on it and then all of a sudden we do
something else so keep hope alive but as we know in this moment this is a moment where we're going to
do something else so keep hope alive but as we know in this moment this is our last coverage of season
50 a couple things before we get into it uh ashley and riley and myself and even ethan our our guest of
the day we decided we would book end the season ethan smashing the pot has spoken of viewership
and listenership records with the premiere episode we thought it only fitting to have him back ethan
how are you i'm so good i'm so happy to be back it makes perfect sense to bring me back at the end of
the season as well as the beginning of the season and i'm so happy to be back and i'm so happy to be
back and i'm so happy to be back at the beginning of the season and i think we should make it a
tradition i think so too okay we can do that we can figure that out although next season our idea
was to have only season 50 contestants as the guests breaking down the episodes but we have
other episodes so we will slate you in for one of those i'm your guy um we were on the red carpet
and we got our red carpet uh episode up it's on youtube uh is it on spotify too is that on spotify
or just only a youtube exclusively youtube exclusively to youtube because of the nature of
of it is mostly a lot of visual um ashley stayed up all night the last couple nights
editing and putting things together not only is she our co-host sitting uh in front of the camera
with us she then after riley and i uh go home and push our beds together in our hotel room uh
ashley stays behind and edits so she has pulled some long nights so thank you so much ashley for
all of that everything you put into it um thank you the red carpet we didn't know what to expect
and the first thing was that cbs didn't get us our credentials for an hour and a half
after everyone else oh my gosh got there yeah what a
and so we missed a lot of interviews yeah and then so not everybody was even still on the red
by the time we got there and they tried their best like everybody i knew internally at cbs was
at least pretending to work on it like they would be like tyson yeah we're getting yeah
they'd come back and check in what's going on we're still out here in the hot sun in my leather
vest and leather blazer and they finally got us in we missed a bunch and then they told me i
talked too long at the end of it all and i was like usually on the red carpets you talk and tell
they give you the signal there there's a pr person next to each person and there were the pr people
there they just weren't giving this signaling yeah they weren't signaling so i just kept going
with people yeah and then afterwards they were like you talked too long that was the problem
i was like well i mean it wasn't the whole problem uh we got here super late even though
we were the first in lines at the press thing because we cut in front of the line
yeah i mean there was a little snafu from the uh my perspective as well where i
showed up to the blue tents on the paramount lot it was myself and then i i spotted cochran was
there then yam yam showed up then tina and so we're all just kind of waiting to get our credentials
to go to the red carpet and it took a little longer than we expected probably a similar
experience as you guys then we all got a little golf cart went in there and then just as we were
showing up to the red carpet you know the past winters that's when the current cast was showing
up so then like i got a couple pictures and then i was
literally just kind of like hovering i'm like hey look at me look at me it was kind of weird
yeah we got to talk to you that was probably the the highlight of my red carpet experience
yeah yeah and there were people there were a lot of people there were a lot of people i wish we
would have talked to there's uh but there's a lot of funny moments on that red carpet stuff there's
some in uh one of the clips that's going berserko all over social media is ashley interviewing
tiffany and uh at the very end no before oh before
it was before no no it was after no it was oh yeah it was after it was at the very end after yeah
yeah yeah so we did get in after so we did the red carpet before yeah we did the red carpet before we
missed some of the cast we missed most of the legends we missed uh mark burnett was there on
the red carpet i saw him he didn't recognize me i don't think he recognized me because i had press
pass on and i offered to take a picture of him in roma and he was like and i was like okay well
i would maybe don't align with you politically so oh there you know i don't know you should have
brought that up i was just i was just like whatever uh i i don't really yeah the more i
talk about the more people are going to think i care that people don't recognize me i don't care
uh but i would like to say for everyone out there like i was really happy to see a lot of the uh new
school new era players be able to experience the red carpet because tyson that's what it was like
every single season uh up until i don't even know when i don't know if you had a live red carpet but
we had a we had a premiere which was red carpet and then we had a finale a live finale red carpet
tons of press and it was so much fun and it just like uh i was just happy that uh the live finale
was back and i thought that was a right choice i think the hands of the fans did make the right
decision on having a live finale
you're welcome
yeah and it was uh it and it was it's always hectic it's always there's always bumps and
turns and like twists and audibles and that's like what the live finale is so i can understand
like not wanting to do one if you're in charge was anyone you're surprised to see show up on
the red carpet that you haven't seen in a while that you're excited to talk to um
i have a very good relationship with a lot of the new era winners because we've had them on
the podcast they listen to the podcast they reach out we we so like rachel lamont is a big uh friend
of the podcast so it was exciting to finally like meet her in person and a lot of i would say those
new era people that uh we've had either on the show or been in communication but never met face
to face um and then everybody else that i like i pretty much stay in touch with so uh i think
maybe for me the biggest surprise was i was sitting next to visepia
and at the finale and that was amazing and she was so happy and so excited and i was like i didn't
even know you were like in the community the survivor realm anymore i thought you just like
dipped and were out but she was so happy to be a part of it all so that was really good to see
i got my photo with her on the red carpet i was happy about that yeah it's great to see her like
it was me tina visepia you know two three four it was really fun yeah that is fun um
one quick uh live finale story i have from my second time heroes versus villains i
wanted to wear they wanted me in a deep v because that was my signature thing from 18
and i was like i don't really want to wear one anymore and they're like no you have to and i was
like no so i was getting i was submitting things they're like no that color is too close to the
sitting next to i was like well make them change and they were like no you have to change and i was
and i we still day of the finale still didn't have anything approved for my on stage fit
and i was like take me to the cbs store so we because we were in new york there's a cbs store
on the corner by the studios and stuff we go down they kick everybody out of the store just for me
and they have like a bodyguard with me and i run in and they're like okay
this guy gets whatever he wants and then we're going to take it back
i
I thought, hilarious if I would wear
and a half men t-shirt and i was like it's a cbs property it's gonna be hilarious
i grab a couple two and a half men t-shirts and because it's like the number one show for
some unexplicable reason two and a half men in 2010 was the most watched television show in the
moment and i think it's the stupidest show ever and i cannot i still to this day do not understand
what the american public ever saw in a show like like i just don't i that's one of the moments
where i was like i don't know what people want so i take these shirts and i run back up and i
show on the wardrobe lady and the this one is like green with like two and a half men logo straight
across the chest in yellow beautiful shirt hilarious and it gets approved for like 10 minutes
oh and then i get another person that i don't know come into the room come straight to me
and look me in the face and say are you wearing that shirt because you like the show are you
wearing that shirt as a joke and i said i love the show and they said we're gonna change
the shirt and it didn't get to be on stage because they understood i was making fun of their show
not celebrating it interesting well but it shouldn't have mattered like i i was a background
character in heroes what other shows what was i going to do this like there was i mean there
was other shows that were probably an option but at that point i just like i ran so i had
to go out again so this is like morning of so like this was like at 10 a.m so then at
noon i have to run out again i run to american apparel and just bought like uh they had like on
the clearance rack a fluorescent pink v-neck but it wasn't in my size but it was like the last one
it was like a small so i was like okay so i bought it i ran it back to the hotel soaked it stretched
it and then blue dry it and then put it on so it fit me wow that's hardcore yeah did cbs make you
pay for the shirt the two and a half men no but they but i paid for the american apparel shirt
the two and a half men shirt the bodyguard was in there he's like where was cbs he's going to
take a few things i have a finale story about you as well tyson you do i yeah i was uh luckily i got
to spend time with your wife rachel prior to this current season 50 survivor finale because you know
a bunch of people are getting their hair and makeup done not i was not one of them i mean i
might have touched up my hair a little bit you know i heard um yeah you did yeah oh it was a
doubt it is this is a hair conversation because i was talking to rachel about your finale when you
won and how you had really long hair and you were wearing the tuxedo shirt which is another you know
brilliant move on your part thank you but they came in and they flat ironed your hair like they
had never done before like you were you're like a natural like beach curly you know kind of scraggly
type long which i like back in the day which we all like and then they said they they flattened
iron and you put in a ponytail and then you took it out of the ponytail and then you parted it down
the middle so you know i don't know if that's a true story if you were upset with your hair if
you liked your hair in that i was upset with the hair yeah i i went in and i said okay the secret
to men's long hair is to not make it feminine like that's literally the goal as a man with long hair
is to have the beachy curls have the you know little it's got to be a little unkempt it's got
to be a little like staggered it can't be perfect and the hair lady's like no i got you and i was
like okay and she immediately flat irons it just like so fast so i'm like oh i don't like i actually
hate that that looks really but maybe like my eye again you know with the two and a half men thing
i don't know what people like like maybe this is what it is supposed to be so
i'm like okay and then she's like i'm not done yet and then she puts it in like a loose ponytail
like down low and i also had a mustache for this finale so i'm looking at myself just like
containing laughter at how stupid i look and i run back to the dressing rooms to rachel like
look what they did to me look at what they did and she's like you have to get that ponytail out
i was like are you sure she's like you look so stupid
and i was like okay so i ran back to the lady i was like we can't do the ponytail she's like
are you sure i like it i was like yeah you can't do the ponytail so she takes the ponytail out
i was like and i need more volume and it needs to be messier and stuff and so she's like pulled it
out and tried her best to like give it something because it was so flat and that's why that hair
existed uh with the tuxedo shirt we made it work but the beach girls would definitely uh been better
do we have time for another hair finale story yeah is it this is it this one
no it's my survivor africa finale story okay yes we do we can you know whether we use it or not
um so survivor africa finale 2002 first time in the history of the show they tried to make
a seamless transition from tribal council in africa to the sound stage in los angeles where
they're close up they're going to pan back and everyone's like oh my god there's a live audience
we had no idea meanwhile obviously we had gained weight so 39 days before the finale they called me
up and they're like this is what we're doing start growing out your beard don't wash your hair because
my hair was curly it was all dreadlocked so for the 39 days i was not shaving i they made everybody
they made everybody at 39 days in front of the finale be unkempt just me and kim the final two
because they were doing a close-up on us we had the same clothes on all that stuff and then when
they panned out everyone is in their their normal uh you know type of situation okay so here we get
to the point where we're like oh my god i don't look like i'm 32 pounds heavier you know i'd been
working out again like my face was puffy but i had a beard so i look different and you know how do you
read red curly hair so they were in the back and the hair and makeup they're twisting my hair trying
to make it look like it and stuff did you bring like the same clothes too i just like look this
up and yeah you're like ripped in these photos it's just like hulking out of your survivor costume
and so then you win right
and like i'm still looking like they wanted me to look back like a ball yeah and then so now we're
after now the show's over and i'm doing all the press and like so i behind stage i'm frantically
trying to shave my face down to like a normal length and i'm trying to redo my hair but they
brushed it out and when you brush out curly hair it doesn't just like instantly come back to like
nice you know separated curls so that if you look at the finale photos i got this like crazy like
brushed out hair and my beard's all choppy and so like that is my uh
experience with the survivor that's hilarious you know what you know what i always like to do
it after the finale because you go to the finale and then you go to the finale party yeah but if
you're part of the cast they put makeup all over you yeah so most people run back to the hotel and
wash their faces even though women go and wash their faces and put on like a regular amount of
makeup rather than the stage makeup which is extra yeah i always would just go to the party with the
makeup on yeah i'd really like that now what no because you look great by the way thank you
thank you it's probably the dragon slayer t-shirt and hat that i just got in the mail today wow
nice he was asking if i got it he texted and it reminded me that i had it oh dragon slayer buff
cbd war bomb
that's incredible yeah and uh and another optional hat wow so are we doing your shirt on ethan we can
always get the survivor lover shirts at uh this is a marketing uh look i'll go up and around the
microphone i am i like it yeah thank you and to you listeners uh especially to cast members who
are making shirts and stuff if we love you and you sent us shirts we will wear them yeah why wouldn't
we wear them we'll wear them if we are indifferent towards you and you send us shirts we'll probably
wear them and if we dislike you and you send us shirts i don't know that we'd not wear them you
better you better send a lot of cash with the shirts yeah send cash and we'll wear them
so i think dragonslayer.com is where you get this but uh i don't know and ethan where do
you get the survivor lover merch you can get survivor lover merch at ethanzon.com and there's
also all the old school survivor merch as well yes but uh you know i'm already thinking about what
what are we gonna make for the next season right this thing i mean i'm not gonna lie this thing was
a a hit you know old school was a major hit this was like a medium hit so i was pretty happy that
people enjoyed it they got the vibe they liked it and so uh you know let's keep the tradition going
well now you've got the new era and the what was this open era open era did you guys talk about
that already we haven't talked about that do you want to start you want to talk about that yeah if
you guys are open to it okay yeah open era we saw the teaser it's a dinosaur egg with dinosaur bone
logo in um rebirth or some rebirth do you think it's right in the new era well yeah
I mean, I think so. Have you seen that? So this season has 21 people in the cast, right? A very
odd, literally odd number of cast members, but everything in that trailer showed only two colors
of buffs. So there's a lot of speculation that maybe someone goes home day one or maybe somebody's
exiled day one and they come back to the losing tribe. So it seems like it may be, this is
speculative, but it may be two tribes of 10 with one person on the outs somehow.
Wow. Okay. Yeah. I like that better than I was thinking three tribes of seven and they were just
like, how can we get more guys on the show and not as many girls? And then they just are like,
well, they're all like a four, three split.
I was actually, I didn't,
I didn't notice the buff colors. I was actually thinking it was all one tribe
and just because of the advantages, it would somehow shake out.
And they vote one person out?
Well, I thought, let me pull up the trailer again because I thought I saw somebody say too,
that when they're scrambling for the supplies on the boat or whatever,
none of them have buffs on yet.
Because they did have to scramble for the supplies though.
So maybe they scrambled for the supplies.
But so then what are they doing? If they're scrambling for supplies, but they're tribeless,
then are they getting them for themselves?
Just for themselves and later are put onto the tribe?
Yeah. Or they, or they're like collectively, whatever you get off the boat is what you guys
can use. But, you know, cause there's still a game ahead.
Maybe the buffs are hidden someplace. I mean, they have to, you have to imagine they have to
pre-select the tribes unless they want to make it totally random for the first time ever.
No, they're not going to make it totally random, but that would be interesting.
What was one world? Was one world, one tribe? I can't remember.
No, it was, they lived on the same beach, but it was two tribes.
Oh, okay. Got it. Okay.
Yeah. Um, yeah, I'm interested to see if the title open era sticks.
Cause it's like, I did, did we, did Jeff name the new era, the new era, or was that he did?
He named it or did it just emerge from the fandom?
That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm, that's my question.
Uh, I think he, yeah, I don't know.
I mean, he would, he did the drop the four, keep the one.
At first and, but didn't that come with like a, this is a new era survivor.
Did he say something else?
Drop the four, keep the one.
Well, drop the four, keep the one stick.
Yeah.
No, that didn't stick.
So we have old school, new school, new era, and now open era.
Do you think those are the four categories?
Will the fourth or I, my, what I, I think the open air is just going to be a continuation of the new era post COVID, uh, existence of survivor.
Instead of, um, getting rice as rations, they get Tyson chicken, LLC, dino nuggets to ration.
And, uh, it's just a whole huge commercial the whole way through.
I, I did think it was interesting how commercial the show has returned because early seasons, it was, it was actually that like Reebok and the cars and all the product placement.
That's brilliant.
Yeah.
That's how they funded the show back in the day.
And then all of a sudden, and then corporations lost interest in being a part of survivor around your now, and now they're back Corona beers, Corona beers and, uh, Toyota.
And so good for them.
It is a status of the time, right?
You know, like look what's happening in the world, you know, social media influencers, everyone's promoting something.
So like, makes sense to bring back in the product placement.
And, and I think, you know, uh, traditional television is kind of losing out to some of these sponsors because of the, the YouTubes and the Mr.
Beasts and the influencer stuff on Instagram and Facebook and Twitter.
And so do you think that Jeff likes the, he, he probably likes the money from the product placements and stuff, but do you think that he, cause it takes away something creatively when you have to jam?
Uh,
I think it's the nature of the beast.
I think he does make a, he doesn't try to, um, avoid the campiness of it.
So he leads into it.
He's in on the, not joke, but he's in on the sponsorship and he makes it a thing out of it, which I think it makes it okay.
In my mind, it is what it is.
People know what's happening.
It is what it is.
It is what it is.
It is what it is.
It is what it is.
It is what it is.
It's a product placement slash sponsorship commercial within the show.
And that's kind of what you need to make the show go forward.
And I think, you know, I think it works.
Okay.
I don't like it as a, cause I'm like, you're not tricking me.
I know you guys are getting paid a buttload of money.
I don't think he's trying to trick people.
That's the thing.
If he was trying to trick people.
I think the Billie Eilish was a trick.
The Billie Eilish, cause she had a movie coming out on Paramount with, uh, all of that.
And then she didn't really seemingly know that she was a part of Survivor in much capacity.
And then.
So I do believe that that was, uh, the kind of hoodwinked the audience a little bit.
Do you think more celebrities are going to look at Survivor as an opportunity to promote
launch of new album, new movie as like a marketing opportunity?
I don't think it's, I don't think it moved the needle for Billie Eilish's movie.
I don't think that I think for Zach Taylor or Zach Brown, do not cut that Ashley, Zach
Taylor.
Who is that?
Is that from a home improvement?
No, Zach Taylor is the, uh, like Bengals head coach.
Okay.
Oh, you got football on the brain already after calendars have been announced.
Um, I think survive survivor's audience is very specific.
Like, for example, we went to the finale, people were losing their minds over us.
Ethan walking around the crowd, walking through the lines, doing that, getting a ton of pictures,
a ton of videos.
That happens in normal life a little bit, but it's not like a swarm.
Yeah.
And in that same capacity, you know, Corona beer is not recognized, is not getting swarmed
at a Survivor finale.
No.
So it's, it's very niche.
Nor did they give out Corona beer to anyone in the audience just so people know.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's not niche, I guess.
It's not niche.
No.
It's not niche.
It's not niche.
It's not niche.
Yeah.
It's not niche.
It's not niche.
Yeah.
It's not niche.
It's not niche.
It's not niche.
It's not niche.
It's not niche.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
yeah like they don't and then when you eat it we're like oh my god this is the best dorito ever
they're like scene cut thank you very much we'll be dude so easy herbal essence shampoo can you
imagine i'd be like can i taste this strawberries and cream shampoo like out there you would be
loving the the sense and the feel like there's so much they could also we had when i remember
was it australia where they actually had like it was the first video cell phone thing where that
was the reward where they could talk to the one on a video call so like yes they were bringing
motorola was in there i think or some other really interesting product place colby got to sleep in
the back of the aztec for one night that was a product placement dude and then that same aztec
was walter white's car on breaking bad yes and then they did a whole tina colby uh car thing at
the end of the finale as well that was uh i didn't really understand what was going on
but i do want to say i did make an appearance on the finale i don't know if anyone caught that but
in the audience oh yeah in the audience it was i was there too yeah but you didn't make it on
yeah i did but i was standing up with my back turned to the people sent me a screenshot
yeah my back was to the camera when i was turning i was like talking to tina behind me or something
you got a full zoom in yeah well when they cut to tina um from the colby tina conversation about the
car they cut i was sitting right next to tina because at some point they said all the winners
come over here we're going to take a big group shot which i don't know if it happened or not
so i moved over and i'm splitting a chair it's tina on my left me and then it's someone on my
oh aris was on my right and so then they just zoomed into me and tina and so yeah i did make
an appearance on the live finale a little more behind the scenes there yeah they came to
rob so they rob and i were on the aisles rob was in front of me and then me right
behind him and um which meant that the if you're on the aisle seat they're considering putting you
on camera like that's so they go to rob and they're like rob we're going to come to you at
an interview and they went to me and they're like we're going to come here with a camera
so be ready and rob had his had two of his four kids there with him and amber and they were like
okay so they're like do you need anything before because you have to be in your chair to make sure
that this happens when it's
go time so they ran rob out to get a diet coke he came back and we're sitting there and rob's kind
of like ready to go like leave he's ready to leave because his kids are there it's late it's he's
east coast time and he's just like
ready to leave but he's like waiting and after the snafu with jeff they didn't have time to come
to rob for an interview so they cut it but they didn't tell him till a little while later and then
they came and told him and he just immediately left with his family oh yeah that's that's when
i texted you riley and was like get down here there's four open seats all right yeah yeah
we were way up like in the in kind of the back but we were behind all of the people who had done
those survivor like idol immunity hunts and all the winners states yeah all the people who'd won
those idol immunity hunts so these were like survivor super fans they'd waited hours to put
their name in the hat for a chance to win these things yeah and then they'd flown out here and
everything else and so they it was
they were like
they were like
it was actually really fun watching with that group because they were going crazy at everything
that happened um just just like so much energy they were massive like when sari comes on screen
just going nuts when tiffany came on screen going nuts um you know any big line that dropped stuff
during the challenges it was pretty cool have you guys ashley and riley have you been to like a live
survivor watch party in a bar or restaurant ever oh no i never have
because it's it's so you know we record the podcast earlier and then it's the like parenting
time for me is when the show is actually on so um no i never make it out to those i would like to say
they are i mean i don't know tyson survivor and the fandom is almost turning into a sport
like people are i would say every city has a survivor fan group it has a watch party on a
they're doing our own thing around watch parties and it's you know for us a chance to be famous
some of us monetize it but it is it's turning into a real live event sporting type scenario
where all these people show up to bar and you're cheering together and you're yelling together and
you're hating together and it's just i it's beautiful to see from my perspective and it
just shows you that survivor is still got some legs on it and it's it's going and i don't think
it's going to stop until jeff says it's going to stop and jeff might not even be in charge
of that even even past that yeah yeah yeah i did see jonathan uh lapaglia in the audience did you
see him come up to me and say hi and uh and uh yeah that's after he said hi to me and i said oh
that's tight he's like that's tyson yeah jlp and i are friends on uh on instagram and uh i was uh
with australian survivor for a while so he's aware would you play that still he's not the host anymore
he's not the host but basically what's happening or what we think is that or what it looks like is
that uh david became the new host of the survivor but the numbers have not been performing uh the
they used to they've been dropping so supposedly a new network is taking it over but they want jlp
back as the host but that's not that's all just like conversational i don't think he was there to
probes wouldn't pass the torch to jonathan i think he's the perfect guy for probes to pass the torch
to yeah i think he's the perfect fit to do that honestly like that would be my first prediction
is that jlp would be the new host of american survivor if jeff left versus a would you think
how do you think a previous contestant would do as host now you think survivor and cbs would throw
a bone to a previous contestant no they would be like how can we destroy the lives of some of these
i think that's a good question i think that's a good question i think that's a really good question
that's not even oh my god yeah just ethan what kind of question was that dude you just you knew
the answer already and you asked me oh they're gonna take care of us so funny ethan so funny
um let's get into all things survivor 50 this is the survivor season 50 wrap
this pod we'll start this is all good stuff actually don't cut it let's leave it in it's
all i think it's all entertaining was it not entertaining no it's great it's great behind
the scenes it's always good right this is what it was like yeah it was this is a conversation
podcast we you know we have conversations here yeah 50 net positive yeah i think it's a very
net positive i agree i do you think that waiting this long to do a returning season helped that
do you think like if you think of returning season in two years ago would have would have moved the
needle as much as season 50 or do you think that the anticipation of a returning season kept building
bigger and bigger and bigger or could we have done one earlier and had the same reaction from
the audience i i think you would have gotten a similar reaction from the audience but i think it
did benefit the brand to wait a little bit longer and obviously you know if you knew 50 was coming
out in 48 as a big returning season yeah so it was a combination of both um but now the proof of
concept that returning seasons do well people love them that i think i will hope that they're going
to bring more into the mix you know whether that's once you know every you know one of the two seasons
per year will be a returning season i think that's the right move it's just so smart like kind of
castings cheaper you know what you're getting you can form what you want to do with these returning
players people
love to see them come back and play again built-in audience so i'm all for returning seasons yeah i
don't think it's going to happen every cycle i think every other cycle i think every four to
five seasons is a we're going to see a returning ish style season whether it's captains whether
it's fans versus favorites halfies that type of thing something like that i i believe do you have
ideas for future seasons or what you would like to see for returning future seasons i mean what about
if you found a favorites tribe and then a super fan specific to that favorite
so ethan you're on the favorites tribe and someone who is you likes you as their number
one survivor person is on the other tribe adam klein is on the fans
but i think something like that where they just
like the person on that side is losing their shit over you specifically like rob sees it when he won
basically everyone yes exactly everybody gets their own yes so everyone gets their own like
person that they just like come in they're like hey secretly i have to tell you that you
are my favorite of all time again they're like shaking blood water situation yes yes i think and
i just came up with that but i just think that's great the reactions from those contestants as
they're at the top of their game are like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're
like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're
absolute pinnacle of survivor
deity is right there like that we saw a little bit of that with rizzo you know like kind of
you know i you know i think when he said hi to me on the red carpet definitely yes yeah totally
i mean i think i floated this one with you like where if you took the gen millennials versus gen
x season you bring back the the the gen x tribe and now you have them play yes in this entire like
that you have them play in this entire like that you have them play in this entire like that you
have them play against a new fan gen z tribe yes see what happens right yeah like imagine bringing
back the exact same tribe from way back in the day and let them play again as a tribe or i do
i would love to for them to get the oldest cast that the all players would agree to return
and re run it back but i don't think they would do they wouldn't do that but like
okay season one no not everybody's present season two is everybody there
would they all play season three let's see if everybody's there if everybody would play season
four where is that line where they're like or maybe they just take hit casts from the past
that you know like okay uh micronesia was huge let's uh see who would can we get that whole cast
back uh heroes versus villains was huge can we get that whole cast back like where can they get back
and replay the whole thing i think that would be incredible but i do i kind of like your idea more
i think bring the millennials as the old curmudgeons now with with the younger generation
yeah like every what well like 10 to 15 years we then so then it'll be like gen z versus gen alpha
then yes gen beta yeah yes yeah i do like that i love that did you come up with that ethan is that
your signature a fan sent that to me via a facebook messenger and i thought it was a
this was you i love it i love it okay uh the advantages the twists and turns the
we have the celebrities we have the fan votes we have some new mechanics in the game
what worked and what didn't what was your favorite 50 twist i feel like i kind of i
actually like the power broker advantage one i i don't necessarily love that it split them up
a random chance via a rock draw and
And that that then did, you know, cause issues for like the Ozzy-Siri alliance.
And, you know, but also Ozzy went home kind of due to his own mistakes.
What about the power broker?
What about the power broker having some decision in how it's split?
Oh, wow.
Like somehow they win and then they have to split them into two groups.
That's really, then I would almost be like,
I don't even want to be the power broker.
But that's the only thing the power broker does is split them in the groups.
And where does the power broker go?
He's safe.
He's safe.
He doesn't get to vote.
Okay.
Interesting.
So it's not really the power.
Oh, weird.
So he can see, okay, how, who do I want gone?
Well, this is now a totally different advantage.
It is a different advantage.
This is a completely different twist, but I am intrigued by this.
This is the Moses in the Old Testament.
Uh, advantage where you're part of the Red Sea.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think we're gonna have to workshop that too.
I don't know if that one is, uh, going to be, you know, the like religious advantage, but,
um, no, you don't get the Bible paid enough money to survivor that they'd throw it in there.
Oh, if the Bible were paid enough, how much do they have?
Dude, they're like the richest corporations in the world.
Like the Catholic and the Mormons.
All.
Like.
They just like pool their hundreds of billions of non-taxable, untaxed cash.
I mean, just pull it out of all their stock portfolios and put it into survivor advertisement.
Cause they did split it up based on race back in the day.
Maybe we need to do one religion.
We got like Jews, Muslims, Christians, atheists.
No, we're getting too far away from ourselves.
And, and that's been talked about before, and that would never work because imagine winning that season to be
like, I told you, God that we're the right religion.
Yeah.
Whatever happens is because of God.
Riley, you like the power broker.
I did like it because I feel like, you know, what was interesting to me is that it does come with a little bit of downside too.
Like if you are the power broker, yes, you, one, you have immunity and two, you can go back and forth and talk to both sides and kind of control both votes a little bit, but then you also get twice as much.
Blood on your hands.
You know, I, I wonder if it mattered that Jonathan was in the position where he sent both of those people home and then he gets up on the jury and our final tribal council and you know, he needs those votes from the jury.
I don't think that we got enough context to understand if Jonathan ultimately benefited from that, or it was a disadvantage to his end game because balancing, balancing the power when you have it is the name of the game.
Like that is the trick of survivor is like, okay, I'm in a huge position of power right here.
Can I make it seem like a democratic decision and can I somehow make it seem like I have less power and input than I do in this situation?
Like, can I blame others for these, the outcome a little bit?
Like it's a full balance and we didn't see.
Whether or not that affected his game negatively in the long run.
Right.
Yeah.
I mean, he did take, did he take credit for the Aussie because of that?
And then who got voted out on the other side?
Emily.
Emily.
Did he take credit for the Emily?
Sure.
So like he kind of is taking credit for those votes on his resume as well.
Yeah.
But like, it's, that's the thing is like, yeah, of course you were in such a huge position of power and then you just bulldozed your way through without giving, like, that's the thing.
It's like, how, how did he navigate that?
I think is, is the question.
And, uh, I think, uh, yeah, I, I didn't hate the power broker, uh, idea either.
Um.
So which was your favorite?
Which was my favorite advantage?
Oh, I already purged the whole season from my memory.
Riley, what other advantages did we have?
Why would you do that before the season wrap up?
Okay.
When the Billie Eilish boomerang idol worked, do you like, I, I actually don't mind the concept of that.
We have to change it though.
You can, you are able to play it on someone else.
Yes.
Once there's one of you left in the game or maybe.
It doesn't die, you mean?
Maybe it doesn't die.
I actually, I don't really understand.
Maybe you can move it around and then whoever gets eliminated, like maybe I can pass it to Riley, but then if Riley gets voted out, it goes back to the person who initially gifted it.
Yeah.
I don't understand why that was a restriction at all.
Like it felt like they were like, oh, we don't want to make it like too complex or whatever, but it's like, it always just boomerangs back to the person who found it, no matter where that idol moves to because.
But then it's a little more of a, then it's more of a, a crapshoot because now you're not, now you're not sure if you should be targeting that person that you gave it to.
So if the person you gave it to get eliminates, then no matter where the idol is, it boomerangs back to you or.
No, no, no.
It boomerangs back to you if the person who's holding it.
They got to, they got to be holding it and go home with it for it to boomerang back to somebody.
Will that add more to it?
Like I'm, I'm in my mind.
I'm like, well, then they hunt around and try to sniff out where the idol is before they start targeting somebody.
Is that going to add another layer to the game or is it going to add too much?
Is it going to be too complex?
It might be too complex.
I don't know.
I just don't want to put players in a corner where it's like, oh, you have this idol.
But you can only use it on yourself and you can't give it to anybody else.
It made it worthless.
Like imagine like, you know, your house of villains idol where the last person to touch it was the, you know, there could be something interesting where like, if you're trying to pass it around and the last person that's holding it is the one that now owns it and has to utilize it.
Could be interesting, you know, where then it's almost like a poison idol, right?
Hot potato idol.
Hot potato idol, good and bad.
I don't hate the idea of the boomerang.
In aspect of it, but the having it be just like super glued to you or the other person, it just made it like that was pretty useless.
Yeah, it made it really useless.
So I like the food auction twist.
You know, they mixed up the gross food challenge where, you know, some people had to perform and they didn't get anything to help the other person.
And then they went right into it.
And then they went right into the challenge after that was over.
So that was a fun little twist that I'd like to see.
They innovated the, you know, the food auction.
That was nice.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And the family visit.
I actually liked the family visit at the end there.
I think I'm envisioning myself at the end.
That's the time when you enjoy having your family there is at the end.
You're like, I did it.
We did it.
That's a real celebratory moment you can have with your people.
Otherwise, in the middle of the game, you're like, I'm probably fucked.
I don't know.
And you're like, there's that weight of the game still hovering over you as you're like trying to enjoy this time with your family.
I think is.
Did you remember what Joe said?
Joe's like, oh, I'm so excited to see my extremely tall wife come out here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
She's taller than him.
I know.
But it was an interesting thing to come out the gate.
My tall ass wife.
My tall ass wife.
Yeah.
Gorgeous tall ass wife.
Like, all right, that's cool.
She was tall.
She's gorgeous.
She's a former WNBA player.
Ah, okay.
If that adds some context.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Too bad there wasn't a basketball challenge.
Yeah.
I can't have a basketball challenge right there.
That is the one thing about the loved ones coming, you know, once you're at final three is we don't get any more of those challenges where the loved ones compete, which I always loved.
I love those.
Love those.
What about bringing the family?
Colby yelling at his brother.
Come on.
What was his brother's Wade or something?
Damn it, Reed.
Damn it, Reed.
Reed.
What about coming in at final four and navigating?
Oh, my God.
Making the final four challenge involve the loved ones?
Yes.
Oh, my God.
And maybe letting the loved ones even watch the fire making.
Or make them make fire.
Or make them make fire on behalf of their.
Oh, my God.
You want to tear a family apart.
Yeah.
Imagine Reed losing fire for Colby.
Dang.
Oh, man.
Yeah.
I think that worked.
I liked it.
I loved it.
I just liked that.
Like, especially because it shocked the hell out of the.
Like, Jonathan was like, is that my.
That's my brother.
Yeah.
So.
Or it was a Nintendo.
It might have been a Nintendo product placement.
Do you think that was.
It was a subtle Nintendo product placement because he was dressed like Super Mario.
We didn't even.
I came home immediately and started playing my switch.
Yeah.
So.
And bought a bunch of games.
He was jumping like this a little bit.
Did they have those sounds every time he moved?
I was wondering if he was like.
Editing missed out.
Like one little like coin bump.
Can you imagine?
Dude, just one.
That would have been epic.
One.
Oh, man.
I was wondering if it was like, he's like, I'm.
A brother, you know, and so I'll dress up as a famous brother, a Mario brother.
they could have planned that from the beginning
if they were like who do you want your family visit to be
and then he's like I'm going to dress like Luigi
the whole season and if for some
reason we get to the family visit
and you're dressed as Super Mario
can you imagine
hilarious
dang dude
what could have been
listen
if you get through casting
on Survivor give us
a call we will come up
with some hilarious
things you can do
and we'll turn it into
a podcast that will air after
the season
but the problem is now
you're going to have to prove it to us that you're going
that you're like selected for the cast
because we're going to get like
10,000 people being like
I'm on the next season and you're like 10,000
people this season
prove it
so
but yeah man
Luigi and Super Mario
at the final breakfast would have been
they're called the Mario
Brothers but like you know his
name is Mario can you imagine if you know
your brother was just
like it's like oh you're like the
Ethan Brothers or whatever and like
your brothers get some other name
yeah but maybe
it's Mario Mario
it is it literally is in the canon
their names are Luigi Mario and Mario Mario
yeah so it is the Mario Brothers
yeah but like
why is his name Mario Mario
listen
different cultures have different ways
of building names
oh it's Italian
it's what
it's what the Japanese people
think Italians do
that's
I'm not familiar enough with the Mushroom Kingdom
culture I guess
yeah I guess not
yeah I liked it I think that was
I think that was my favorite my favorite
season 50 little
twist it was more of a twist for the
no it was a twist for them a twist for the fans
to see the family visit because
up until that I think there
was some
survivor social media coverages
of like some of those
influencers
or personalities
on social media being like things I don't
think we're gonna get one of them is
the family visit going into the finale we got
the family visit there were a few things
and I think we got all of them they were like the car
we're not gonna get the car this season
we did so
yeah speaking of
yeah another little twist
they smashed a few of them in there
is the car curse lifted
what's the car the car curse
is if you win the car during the show
you never win the show
nobody who's won the car has won the show
correct so there was no curse
in this season you know because
they didn't play for a car at any point
so I didn't really understand what was going on
so are they setting it up for Toyota
to be part of the
next cycle of survivor
by lifting the curse
and then hoping someone
chooses the car now because the curse is gone
hope so
listen if there's 10 people still in the game
and you choose the car
there's still only a 10% chance of you
winning survivor
so
I think it came in at 6 usually the car
okay at 6
I think so didn't someone win a tribe of cars
and they won like 6 cars
yeah and they gave them away and there was a bunch
of different ways yeah

how about a least favorite challenge
least favorite
advanced yeah yeah sure
yeah yeah I mean I've you know
no offense to Jimmy Fallon
I didn't love the Jimmy
Fallon I don't even know what it was
I just felt the Jimmy Fallon
screw Christian over
yeah challenge
it was crazy that they named it
that before the season
yeah to make him read it
live in front of people for the first
time like if you had to make one
adaptation on that I get like
let him let him read that on his own
so he can create some sort of lie when
he gets back to camp on how he might want to
use it to his use this horrible situation
to his advantage somehow
to get around not voting for
himself I don't know
yeah I think that would be a better option
100% I think the blood mood
was also not the
best twist
it was just designed kind of poorly
I think it could have been a blood
bath and instead it was just more of
like oh okay
even one thing that could have helped
with the blood moon
if they're going to separate them in all three
we're separating you in all three
in the three the blood moon and what part of
the blood moon is is
all advantages
do not work this round
if you have an idol you can't play it
if you have an extra vote
you can't use it if you have
so everybody's fair game
nobody's protected were there
did the people win immunity in the groups
yeah maybe have that even stripped be like
no immunity that's it
have they ever had a non-immunity
tribal council have they ever gone to tribal
where no one's immune that would be awesome
I mean just the pre just the pre-jury stuff
the when everybody's in the tribes still
yeah like this imagine
like you only can use advantages but I would like to do
that yeah I would like to do that after
after the merge once or twice
just maybe once just like
be like to earn
the merge nobody
is safe wow
that would be awesome
and you have to just use the advantages
in play so that would flush
a lot of idols I bet people
there's no advantage you can't play advantages either
to earn the merge everyone's on equal
grounds no advantages
can be played and there
is no immunity wow
interesting I like that I
like that too send it to probst
that's the blood moon
yeah because that is yeah
I think yeah the blood moon
was terrible I think it just narrowed it
it was just too slim
and you can't like
random chance with like four
or five people at play when
there's 17 people left in the game
is is
rough it's rough
yeah it's a rough way to
go out yeah takes a lot of
agency away from navigating the
game it just like puts you in
a corner for some people
it's yeah
so yes it's going to be interesting
with this you know open era if they're using
every single advantage
that's ever been played
in theory I don't think they are
but it's all right they can't fit
all of that into one season
super idol they're going to play the super idol
where it's Tony's Tyler
Perry super idol and you'll
Kwan's an
original super idol and then
those two people are just going to be able to
play him after the votes like that
yeah they can't fit everything it's like
are they going to do like the hourglass again
like you know stuff that
I don't remember that one
unanimously yeah you purchased it from your
brain yeah that was like unanimously
the worst advantage of all
time where it was just like
if you smash the hourglass
you can reverse
the team that actually won the
merge challenge
and then they're actually the losers
and you get to go
join that team
I don't understand like
this idea it's like oh it's all on the table
now I'm like was it ever off the table
I was never under the impression that they'd
taken anything off the table
we did never get
that announcement did we
now it has to be like survivor
luck that's the name
of it it's like survivor pressure luck
that's all it's just
whatever happens
survivor can't do it
because no one
can you can't plan now
there's no way to plan stuff it's every day
it's going to be like I don't know
let's see what happens
how do you play survivor
if there's advantages
all the time like how
does that work if there's an advantage
every like day and
constantly I mean you still just
position yourself as best you can socially
with as many people as possible
and that's literally the game is just
like you
have to
be
with everyone as much as possible
I don't know if that's their goal
and that's
what they envision for the game
because it wreaks
mass chaos but you have
to play everyone
when there wasn't all these
advantages it was like I have to work myself
into the majority and I can
afford to neglect the
minority a little bit
but I also have to
show the majority that I'm with them
but now
and it's
It still is that, but it's day to day.
not, it's not a long running thing where it's like, okay, I'm with, uh, there's 16 people here.
I'm with the group of 10. We're good till we get rid of a couple more from the six and then it's
going to shift. But now I just need to make sure that I'm with the five or six from the 10 that
become the new majority and pull in some of the stragglers that I've existed from the old minority.
And that's how the game used to shift. But with all of these advantages, you just have to be as
good with every single individual as you possibly can be. And that gets back to, yeah,
survivor is a game of relationships, which is why I'm retired from the game because
I don't have the bandwidth as a 47 year old man to talk to people I don't like.
And so now it's just like, I get out there and I'm just like,
I'm good with four of these people. And if they don't do the work for me,
then I'm just going to go home because,
I can't talk to everybody anymore.
It's also a very, I feel like that it's reactionary. It's in a reactionary way to,
like, I feel like the best way to play this game now is to not play, like almost be reactionary
and play off people's mistakes and come on strong at the end. Kind of like what Aubrey did. I think
that was the smartest, like she played under the radar, analyzing people, working on some
relationships, feeding off other people's mistakes. And she just turned it on at the end when it
mattered.
And people started paying more attention. Like if she'd came on too strong at the beginning,
I think, you know, you're noticed. People identify you as a threat. And if you just kind
of hover and not play for a long time, then you can kind of work your way into the fold and be,
you know, flip around like she did.
What about this? Is this, is this a strategy, Ethan? And could it work in any capacity?
You get up every single day before anybody else wakes up and you just go,
bury yourself in the sand somewhere with a little pipe to breathe. And you're just invisible
all day long, never being seen anywhere in so much that they're not even like,
Hey, where's Ethan? Do you think he's looking for an idol? They just forget about you because you are
gone the entirety of every single hour of every single day. You're only there when production
comes over and nudges the shrubs that you're hiding in to go play the challenge or to go to the show.
But the rest of the time you are completely absent from everything.
And they just forget you're there.
And they forget you're there. They talk about you for a little bit, but then they're like,
I don't know. Let's just like, he's not talking to anybody.
I think that happened when I played season 40. They just forgot I was there.
They didn't. You got voted out. And you're like that. And I got voted out. They knew we were
there, but like, just hide it. Like, like, you know, like the, the native Americans with their
like little, uh, little homemade snorkels. Like, could you just go like sit in a pond somewhere
with a homemade snorkel all day long? Just like completely invisible to everyone.
Uh, I think that would work. I do think that's a good strategy.
I think, I think you'd be the easiest vote in the history.
I would just pour little drips of water so you could at least,
stay hydrated or get some drink. Oh, so I could get a drink. I thought, sure. So I breathed it in
my lungs and just every day, like you wake up at like four in the morning and just like run around
trying to find a new hiding space. And then you just sit there all day long. And then if there's
no challenge or anything, you just like never come back until, and then you sleep somewhere.
Like you even sleep somewhere different. You could even sleep somewhere different. So they
don't see you at night ever or anything. It's just like, he's gone. But for some reason he's
like getting really dirty. He's completely, he's obviously being out here somewhere,
but he is just at the challenges and at tribal council.
They've never done a hide and go seek challenge. That'd be really good. Right? Like one person's
picked to got to go, everyone, you got 10 minutes to hide and you got to go find everyone. And if
whoever you find, you get to vote out. You just get to vote them out.
Very powerful. Yeah. Very powerful. How come they never done a challenge where it's like,
on Mario party where it's like one versus the rest of the group.
Oh, they did do it to Tiffany.
No, but not like being a bully one where they're like, let's get her. Not that, but like,
they're like, okay, this challenge is one versus 11. The player of one has one pound bags.
They have to move a hundred of them to the thing. And the group of 10 has a hundred pound things
and they have to move a hundred of them to their basket. Like something like that, where it's like,
kind of like even, but the group thing is like way harder and have to work as a team
versus the one, something like that. We're getting too far where now we're,
I thought the challenges should have been harder this season. I like, I, you know,
there was no like tremendous effort challenges this season, like
carrying 20 logs back and forth or coconuts or like there, nothing really tortured them as
much as I would have liked to see, you know, what about the fan votes this season?
Did you, did you like the fan vote? Did you think it mattered? Was it a, was there anyone
where you're like, yeah, I think it was expected. I think the fans voted the way in which I wanted
them to vote. So that was good. Most of the time I started thinking about this last night. And then
I think I started laughing to myself is that you had to input your email to all your votes. So now
Jeff probes personally can see.
If you voted against the things he loves, and now you're going to get a email from Jeff probes
telling you to fuck off, telling you to watch another show you're blocked. You can't actually
watch survivor on paramount. Plus if you voted against the thing that Jeff wanted to watch
extracted. I do also though, I I've come to terms with fire making. I was like, let's see how it
goes. I'm a legendary part of survivor now. And, uh, I'm fine with that. I've come to terms with that.
Um, and they did have a fire making challenge within like on survivor Africa. We had a fire
making challenges. Wasn't a final four. I think it was a final six Lex won that one, but they did
make us go try to start a fire and run back and forth to get materials to burn a rope. It was a
larger size fire, like a little bonfire. So it has been part of it has to be part of the show. Like,
I think it has to be in there somehow, but yeah, we've moved it around in the past, but I,
I think especially after season 50, even though it was only like a 60, 40 vote or whatever,
you got to, you got to like, uh, like leave it. Okay. Fine. Final four. I've come to terms with
it. Final four is fire, especially with the Rizzo versus Jonathan standoff, which is now
is probably going to be a legendary survivor standoff of, of two people who lost fire in the
past. Now having to go against each other, like now it's maybe that's what cemented it now in my
brain as, as a fixture in survivor. I mean, I also, I mean, do you want to make just, you brought up
Rizzo, but like I, if we're talking about breakout stars from this season, I probably lean into Rizzo.
I think you haven't seen many super memorable players from the past 10 seasons. And I think he
did an incredible job of being like overly confident and vulnerable at the same time.
And then you add in being like a fan girl, super fan in the, being a super fan of the
other players in the game while still playing a great game yourself. And that's a pretty fine
needle to thread and have it resonate with the audience in such a way that they respond in a
positive way to Rizzo at first, everyone's like, oh my God, who the hell is this kid? You even saw,
yeah, we saw Colby get turned in real time on the season. Like he didn't know what to take of Rizzo.
Then he loves Rizzo. And I think Rizzo is a breakout star and he did an incredible job
doing exactly what I just said, being vulnerable and confident in a way that just made sense.
And I was happy to see that. I agree. I w we talked about it, uh,
on the last podcast about Rizzo being a reality TV star. That's his job. That's going to be his job.
I think we see him on another show or we see him on survivor again in, in the near future.
I think that is his career path from moving forward. And after you're you saying that Ethan,
I believe the thing that Rizzo really has is he's so good at talking for someone
that young, like connection through conversation is kind of a lost art as technology is here. And so
much is done remotely. And so much is done on your phone. Someone who's a younger person being able
to talk, talk their way out of, uh, a hole or to not even find themselves in the hole or to
communicate with people older than them is, is not something that everyone can do. And I think that if
you are a survivor fan and you're young and you want to get on survivor Rizzo is the perfect
example of what you need to master, which really is conversation. Like you need to be able to
articulate, you need to be able to narrate, you need to be able to be entertaining when
you're doing it. And Rizzo is a master of that. Like we talked to him on the red carpet. He was
so much fun. And I think that's the moment where I was like, okay,
okay, I fully understand why he was on two seasons
of Survivor back-to-back
because finding a 25-year-old that can talk like that
is few and far between.
And what Christian said about this narrative warfare,
I think that's a perfect, I mean, that sums up casting.
Exactly what you said, Tyson.
You need to be a person who can look at a situation
and be able to tell that story in a way
that makes the audience actually feel something
about what you're saying.
And Rizzo did a great job at that.
It's a game of storytelling
just as much as it's a game of everything else.
I'm curious now that Rizzo has seen,
he had the chance to see himself on TV
and then come back and play, right?
Because he went from season, first season to second season
without seeing himself on TV at all.
So he just went on his instinct
and he was self-aware enough
to see how people responded to him out there.
How does that change now that he's seen himself,
he sees how that works?
The audience loves him.
When he comes back, is it going to seem as authentic
or is he going to be kind of just following
what he thinks people want people to think to him to say?
I think he's going to need to make minor adjustments
to earn votes.
I think that's it.
I think he needs to skew a little more mature
for the people who need that in conversation.
And I honestly think that's going to change.
I think that that is his only adjustment currently.
I think his reads on the game are great.
I think the way he uses information is great.
I think the way he bonds with people is good.
I just think he's going to have a hard time in front of a jury
if he doesn't cater to the people
who want a little bit more maturity from him.
And I think he can do it.
I think he can deliver that.
I think that was going to be his hurdle.
Yeah.
I think Aubrey was an incredible,
incredible communicator in the final trial.
Yeah.
Let's talk about,
we're going to circle back to Aubrey.
Let's put the cherry on top there at the end.
But who else from the cast are we going to see in the future?
Was a breakout star?
Was someone that you think like,
okay, they've really put their stamp on this thing.
We're going to see him on The Traitors.
We're going to see him on House of Villains.
We're going to see him on more seasons of Survivor.
Who is Rizzo top of the list there?
And then who's second,
if that's the case?
I think Rizzo is top of the list for me.
I think like Ozzy for some strange reason
had a breakout season
and people see him in a new light.
I could see him getting cast
on some other seasons of competition shows.
I think he did pretty darn well.
People seem to love Christian and Devin's
from a fan perspective.
Do you not?
No, from, yeah.
No, I love them from a fan perspective.
I thought you were blaming the fans
and being like, I don't get it.
No, I get it.
I mean, it gets back to what we were just saying.
They can look at a situation
and narrow it in a way that people are like,
oh yeah, I want to hear more from this guy.
You know, like I want to hear his opinion
and his perspective.
And that I think is super important.
So I think those folks that are,
I mean, Ciri's a legend anywhere you look.
What about some of these younger new era players
that were there?
I think Tiffany is someone we're going to see.
Yes.
On Survivor again.
Jonathan, I think,
I think some of these people are still just for Survivor.
I think Jonathan is going to be back,
but I think he's like Survivor.
Like, I don't know that we're going to see him on Traders.
I don't know that we're going to see him on.
I think he could be maybe on The Challenge.
Maybe on The Challenge,
but I know that I've personally reached out
to The Challenge on his behalf.
Oh, wow.
To be like, hey, I've got someone I think
he might be too good physically for The Challenge.
That they would be too, like, hesitant to cast him.
So, and maybe my endorsement there didn't help him
and hurt him.
I don't know.
Well, Charlie and Camilla,
they're going to be famous actors now.
They're going to be famous actors.
We did get that they're,
oh, they wouldn't say if they had speaking roles or not, right?
Or they did say they had speaking roles.
They wouldn't say.
They wouldn't tell us,
like, they basically told us nothing.
Yeah.
That was a funny behind the scenes
is that they were only supposed to do one red carpet
interview about the White Lotus
and they were walking off
and I grabbed them and pushed them into Riley
and the PR person was like,
they're only supposed to do one.
I was like, oh, and Riley was going.
Well, I didn't get nothing out of them.
So, I was like, when are you flying out?
What can you tell us?
Blah, blah, blah.
And they were like, zip, zip.
We can't say anything.
So, they didn't already film it.
They're going to be filming it.
That's what it sounds like.
Yes, they're going to be filming it.
They have not filmed it yet.
That was like the only,
I guess, like piece of information I got.
And I was like, you know,
are you going to speak on the show?
And they're like, we can't say.
I was like, do you know what your role is?
They're like, we know, but we can't say.
And I'm like, all right, there's nothing.
That's okay though.
We're excited.
Do you think Mike White's role
is going to turn into like the Sia thing?
Like every season, Mike White has a White Lotus.
He's going to be pulling from Survivor,
whether he played with them or not.
And people are going to be like,
I might do crappy on Survivor,
but I got the White Lotus.
He's only pulled people that he's played with so far.
I think he'll continue to pull people he's played with.
Like I think on season five,
we might see other people from season 50.
Or Probst will put him back on again
so he can find more people to put on White Lotus.
Maybe he'll be in season 53.
I don't think Mike White's playing Survivor again.
I know, I know.
He's joking, Tyson.
I would agree.
The one player I would add
that I think will definitely be back,
if not on Survivor,
certainly I actually think on other realities,
reality shows,
is Q.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
He's great.
Awesome.
I think he's going to be back on Survivor.
I think that they didn't get
what they wanted from him this season
because he was an early boot.
Yeah, he was fourth out.
But I still feel like. He's kind of screwed.
He was in great position.
He had a great alliance.
He had the majority with him.
And then all of that deteriorated.
And it swapped onto. Yeah, yep.
So he's one of those guys
that I think did enough his first season.
That even if second season didn't go great,
they're still having him back.
But he was still. It's like the season didn't go well,
but he was good even in his short time this season.
Yes.
Where you're like,
oh, the entertainment value is just off the charts.
Just want to see this dude again.
I mean, I love Camilla in her first season.
I wish we saw a little bit more from her
in this season 50.
I don't know if she'll be asked back again,
but I don't know.
I saw something in her
that I would have liked to see more of.
Yeah.
I don't disagree,
but she is on the cusp of like,
will they have her back?
I don't know.
I can't tell.
Anybody else?
Any other standout superstars, Ashley?
Who do you want to see the most back?
You know what?
I want to see Emily back again.
I want to see her try it one more time.
I know she said that she was like,
kind of iffy about it,
but she is really interesting with her gameplay.
Like she's. It's a mixture of like,
frustrating and also fun
and also was she controlling the island
or was she messing up everyone's game?
Was it on purpose?
Can she do it again?
Can she do it better?
I want to know.
I really like that
because I think of all the people
that could learn from playing their second time.
So of all the new era players,
I feel like she has the most adjustment
that she could make to be successful
and she can see it on camera.
She's just like,
stop spilling all the secrets.
And I think that they recognize that.
I think she was entertaining her first season.
She was entertaining this season
and she also can make big enough adjustments
based off of what she's learned
that she could be one of those ones
that totally switches up
and changes the trajectory of her game
while still being herself.
And I think that that's not. That's not something that everybody
is going to be able to have the luxury of doing.
Like Rizzo, what's he learned?
Oh, maybe some like minor little adjustments.
Like Emily can make a gigantic adjustment
in being more selective with sharing information
and still be authentically Emily.
Do you think you made any major adjustments, Tyson,
between your seasons?
Yeah.
Okay.
The major adjustments I made, first of all,
were A,
connecting with everyone,
blood versus water,
just trying to connect with every single person,
no matter how I felt about them,
no matter how I felt they could help me.
And then also specifically
making inroads with the people on the bottom,
knowing that if the game flipped,
they would be at the center of it
and I would like to be there.
Ultimately, I think I was placed. Near the end, I was placed at the very top
of the totem pole of like. Threats.
And so I don't think that
if the bottom people had flipped it at that point
that I would have any where but being the target.
But I think in that middle round after the merge
where we kind of, we blindsided Aris and Vitus
and then there was a group against us,
I don't think I was necessarily seen
as the full driving force in that moment.
And so I think there was a time where like Sierra
or someone else could have come to me and been like,
"Hey, can we flip?"
and it would have been
up to me but um that was the adjustment i i made yeah what about on 40 on 40 it had been seven
years and i understood i was the target like right off the go like i had to work so hard to
not be voted out first and i had to vote out my friend amber to do it that's tough and so and then
i just stayed in that mode of scramble and i should have like after i got through that i should
have calmed down but i couldn't and so i think that like if i played again i would make adjustments
based off of that um but i would also not talk to people i don't like so now so so i and i already
know that and i already have learned that that you need to do that to like get to the end and i'm
don't know if i would be willing to i know i know you get out there and you
kick into game mode a little bit but i don't think that for me i can i could do that for even
26 days like 39 days there's no way in 26 days talking to people you don't like come on yeah
yeah i had a recent experience on another reality tv show where i was put uh recently just film
coming to a tv scene tv tv screen near you soon um where i was placed with someone i really
did not want to be placed with um that was tough and to be able to fake that for it was a shorter
amount of time but it was tough it was tough but i did but i did use um tyson you taught me how to
chop a coconut oh yes the resort chop the resort chop so i i uh displayed the resort cut i parlayed
that from season 40 into this a little bit of a hero i'm not gonna lie definitely and the machetes
were so much sharper in this this episode so it's really nice
so i'm so excited yeah i'm so excited when did when when are we gonna see it i think it's gonna
be on like 2027 on discovery okay very recognizable faces wow uh i'm very excited to see that i'm
excited to watch your coconut chopping skills thank you i still maintain of all the survivor
contestants i chop the prettiest coconut you do you do i've only ever
yeah i've only played on one season with coconuts yeah so uh but yeah yours were by far the
prettiest definitely yeah yeah and which and by chopping them the prettiest it's not just about
aesthetics it made them the easiest to consume because you had easier access to drinking them
without fibers and stuff getting in your face and mouth and so uh and then when you would deliver
them to us i felt really nice because like i felt part of your life out there just seeing you know
made me feel seen yeah thank you yeah what you didn't see was that i drank the first one and i
chop another one but i needed energy to keep chopping oh you saw it um let's talk about the
winner aubrey yes you were about to get into it get into it now oh no yeah i mean i'm i'm very
happy with the winner uh i mean from the three people in the in the final you know three i
thought aubrey was the the right choice
um i you know i i'm friends with aubrey uh she's been very supportive of all the work that i've
done over the years so i'm pretty happy about that and so yeah i mean it was interesting i
actually got to speak with aubrey's mom and husband behind the scenes and they told me i mean
she put in the work and she studied uh you know game theory and communication and she learned from
her past mistakes on previous seasons and how she wanted to play this game and according to them like
she played the game that she set out to play and so i think that was really awesome to hear and her
whole strategy was to yeah lay low and come on towards the end because you know she came on too
strong earlier in her previous seasons and that was her downfall and use her communication skills
uh to get ahead and i think she did just that yeah what a challenge at the right time like that is
when you need to win the challenge when you need to win the challenge when you need to win the
challenge win the challenge and that goes a long long way especially for someone who is not
necessarily a challenge threat to then win one when it matters is i think extra points uh for
the jury there there's a lot of discourse about did they vote right what were the reasons that
the jury voted did it get did the jury get poisoned all of that right now the nature of the game is
that the jury deliberates and there's strong voices on the jury
and if you are a strong voice on the jury with an agenda to help someone win that's still in the
game because of your love for them or because of your dislike for others that's the game right now
if that format changes then the game changes a little bit but that's the format and that's
how it is and then secondly like people are saying oh aubrey like because of her past and
her story and people shouldn't vote no that's exact i would vote for aubrey
based off of how deep i knew her scars were and her wounds were from previous for the last decade
like that is i'm not saying i'm 100 voting for that every time but based off of what i saw on
camera and how i saw uh the games materialize and the final three that does factor in for me
yeah and it gets back to something i think i've mentioned with you the first podcast is i would
love to see more of the jury deliberating
i think that needs if they have so much power and they're making such a strong decision let's
see it let's see because there are some love hate relationships you don't know why people
were scampering around like talking about who they were voting for and why and how to thwart
other people from voting for this and how to make sure this person doesn't win and all of that was
taking place there we didn't see it though on camera you don't see it and even in so much that
you got people that were like hey we kind of want to vote michelle but if you're voting for michelle
natalie and then there's a then we're not then we don't want natalie to win so now we're gonna
shift our votes to tony and this and that and so it was kind of all like uh there was a lot of that
and maybe keeping information if people that were voting natalie didn't admit it then maybe natalie
actually would have won which would have is crazy to think like because those people would have
voted michelle which then might have pushed the majority into natalie so i think yeah i
wasn't on i mean i wasn't honest with everyone that i was voting for natalie you know i was
telling people i was voting for tony but i really was going to probably vote for natalie and that
was just you know a hard move not a strategy vote you know and that was same with me i connected
with natalie she's a friend and she gave me an idol at the end which would have propelled me to
victory had i won that last challenge in or at least to the finals to the finale so for me i was
like yeah i have no doubt that if i had gotten to the end it means that i would be there and natalie
wouldn't and i have no doubt that natalie would have voted for me and so like that's and that that
was also the nature of the game was exile edge of extinction where you got to root for an underdog
who had been voted out so uh i think yeah i think that's right now and people are like oh it's lazy
to just say like the game's design like if you win the proper winner wins i think yes there's jury
management like you didn't manage the strongest voice on the jury then then now you have to pay
the price for that who do you think was the strongest voice on this jury sari okay yeah i
think everyone respects sari yeah everyone respects sari and everyone loves sari personally
because of who sari is like you meet sari and you're like i love her
how can you not take her opinions into consideration when you're voting for the
winner yeah you know and i think that that's all it is like you love someone you respect someone
they've been around forever like yeah you have to like i think sari carried so much
weight on that jury and i think that she should have i'm sure you talked about it but it was
strange a couple people weren't even asking questions they're just campaigning publicly
because you'd imagine they're having these same conversations yeah and i saw and i saw that too
and i also saw some discourse online about that about like everyone got an opportunity to speak
we might we probably didn't see everybody but i bet everybody that wanted to say something
said something whether or not it made good enough tv to air that's a different thing
stephanie might have asked a question that didn't that ended up getting cut but also
it was her turn to do the things she wanted to do and that's what she chose to do with it
yeah so like uh for good or for bad does that help or hurt people if that's the thing she
chose to do with her platform in that moment then can we really fault her like yeah and also
then d and sari responding and then also other people like everybody on the jury also has an
agenda not everybody i think winners at war i actually was like i don't know i don't know
i don't really want to say anything and i didn't i just sat there in the freezing cold pouring rain
waiting for it to end while everybody tried to make the finale of
themselves and uh which was so absurd and jeff like two hours and was like we're rapping soon
and then it went another hour and a half and you're just and sophie was so sick and she was
like literally whoever answers the shortest answers i'm voting for and then still none of
them could answer short still they've all pontificated way too long and uh aubrey in
that position at the final three winning that vote putting people in fire the scars and the
wounds she's had that her survivor journey and story well deserved win and did you see this
thing going out online that like over the i think it's the last 10 seasons the winner has been in
the center position yeah we put that out we put that up oh you put that oh sorry that's on our
instagram i follow you guys that was yeah yeah thank you it was the man at 10 in that and
the men it was that it was kyle sat on the right and gabriel sat on the right so it was the men
yeah sat on the outside of the winners and the women were in the center of the
some people said it was genders based on if there were two women then the man sat in the middle but
that also not true if you look through it there were moments where because rachel sat in the middle
on her season and it was sam and somebody else anyways it was like two women and one man that
season but rachel they still sat rachel in the center and then obviously she won i i i mean you
know when we're making that post i think we're kind of like hinting at i don't think it's coincidence
yeah right yeah the other thing that i thought was new is everyone wants a hug from jeff now
like that's like the thing oh can i have a hug can i have a hug at first it was kind of cool
but you know jeff doesn't like hugging people i know that no and so like you see me he's like
you know like but like now everything is a hug which i'm not okay with
you're not okay with it no i don't think at one it just devalues the hug like jeff's
hug should be doled out pretty darn like so what's he gonna do reject the hug i think he
should start rejecting the hug gotta be so funny if he's like no i'm good
or tell people beforehand yeah tell people beforehand we're not doing hugs
it's time for you to go remember time to go yeah on 40 we uh we we all agreed to run over to jeff
and hug him uh like a surprise hug which i think he probably just instantly jumped in the shot
hour and purrelled it purelled himself because uh but anyway yeah that was our big hug with jeff
i wasn't there i was still in the game yeah so i didn't do that it's crazy that people don't get
sick out there that we don't get sick like that illness almost never happens i mean stomach sick
barfing from eating too much or things like that but like nobody ever gets like so sick that it's
visible like a sore throat or and it's something like that it definitely has happened like
a few times a handful of times and then there were rumors that it happened to rizzo this season
i guess we never asked him about it but that's why he kind of like really disappears a little
bit in the middle of this season i guess he was just feeling sick and was like kind of lying
around the shelter for a few days oh interesting also he gets a lot of uh pushback from on the
season from not helping around camp and he played two back-to-back seasons for so long and lost
so much weight and didn't gain it back and then lost more weight on top of that like he probably
had a hard time really being physical in any capacity he was telling me that he lost 20
something pounds the in 49 and then in these nine days off gained two pounds back and then lost
another 20 something pounds uh on 50 so he was down you know 40 plus pounds at the end of the
thing and he's and he was even like look at me i don't have that much weight to lose in the first
flight i don't have that much weight to lose in the first flight i don't have that much weight to
lose in the first flight i don't have that much weight to lose in the first flight yeah i on token
chains lost about uh i lost almost 20 pounds and i gained all of it and more back at ponderosa so
by the time i went home i was heavier than when i left and i was only at ponderosa uh like a week
and a half no i was there two weeks no i got i got voted out day 27 or 28 somewhere in there
and i guess it goes to 39 so and you were just taking
it out at the cafeteria the whole time dude yeah the food you can feel the food right here in my
throat constantly and the second it went like that i topped it off definitely
like mentally you are so hungry that even though physically you can't fit more in your mouth
mentally you your brain overpowers it you just do you're just like yep yeah snickers bar on top of
my third breakfast yeah so good so

While it creates strategic tension, it also raises questions about how players navigate power and accountability, making it a central element of the season’s strategic depth and player behavior.
The red carpet experience was eventful, with delays in credential access and missed interviews.
