‘Survivor 51’ Episode 6 Exit Interview!

The episode features a deep dive into Ori’s strategic decisions during Survivor, focusing on his pivotal vote to eliminate Alexis despite the emotional cost. Ori emphasizes that while keeping Alexis would have created more enemies and strained alliances, the game strategy demanded a calculated move to preserve long-term viability. He credits his success to a low-key, trustworthy gameplay style that built strong relationships and earned loyalty from allies, allowing him to operate subtly behind the scenes. The conversation also examines the impact of the three-tribe swap, which many believe reduced drama and strategic tension compared to two-tribe dynamics, where alliances and chaos are more dynamic. Ori’s physical presence—being 6'3" and muscular—is noted as a potential threat, yet he avoided intimidation through deliberate calmness and attire, maintaining a quiet image that earned trust. The hosts and panelists praise his emotional resilience, strategic depth, and ability to stay out of the spotlight while still influencing outcomes. They also reflect on how the merge creates an advantageous position for the remaining players, particularly with strong alliances, idols, and vote power. The episode concludes with a strong consensus that Ori is a valuable player who could thrive in future seasons, with fans and producers calling for his return due to his unique blend of social intelligence, resilience, and quiet strength. The discussion underscores broader themes in Survivor: the balance between emotion and strategy, the power of trust, and the importance of narrative variety in tribe dynamics.

back to the pod has spoken exit press day for ori i was gonna like keep it spoiler free but if you're this deep in you already know that it's ori and we're here talking to him uh i think he's gonna be fine but let's hear it from him all right everybody what's up ori what's up with you how you feeling what's up what's up how you guys doing good how are you doing all is well man brutal night last night but i mean we're here can't complain can't complain let me ask you is there any part of you that thinks keeping alexis would have could you have kept alexis and would have that helped you at all could i have kept alexis for sure because i feel like you don't think devon and jelly would have pushed too back too hard on that you would have been able to do it somehow it was some somehow i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know there was definitely ways to do it because i was so well ingrained with them that my word and me asking to do me a favor would have been possible but the problem was just like keeping alexis was with my heart 100 but strategically and game wise that wouldn't have been a good decision at all yeah because say say say say i keep alexis let's let's let's just play let's just talk gameplay and just strategy say me and devon keep alexis we flip on jelly we lose the one that betrayed devon i'm going to betray the alliance devon has two devon has two votes why would alexis go to rocks we're going to merge next so guess who he sent it home right me we talk strategy say me alexis and jelly turn on devon we lose the next challenge i'm going that betrayed her and sent her number one home i flipped on their lines jelly idols me out and keeps alexis so like as much as it sucked like if you know survive if you know good gameplay good strategy it was the only move it was it was the only move yeah it seemed like you were gonna mistake just couldn't win a challenge if we're able to win a challenge we'd be having a much different conversation and i think we've been a much later down the line would alexis have won that have been able to do that puzzle i hope so because none of us could none of us could actually that was brutal oh my god that was brutal or a talk us through your feelings in that moment because i have been there where i've not been not myself personally my team has not been able to finish the game i've also not been able to finish stuff and i'm just like please let this be over how come absolutely it's one of those things where it's just like and that's probably one of my biggest regrets of just like that that last day i was there just because like survivors 80 luck like i said like you're gonna be super strategic super social great at challenges it's 80 luck so it was one of those things i remember the first challenge i tried to put myself in the money position i'm thinking okay if i'm in the middle i get a bucket full of water to jelly devon had a hard time getting me some water i'd get jellies some water she had a hard time getting to jenna so that was tough second challenge i'm thinking okay i'm gonna shoot the hoops i'm gonna shoot the balls i'm gonna put myself in the money position i don't even get a chance to get a shot up because we because we couldn't figure it out so at that puzzle i thought and like i said at that puzzle we're all looking i was upset myself that i didn't just take charge if i was just a charge and we couldn't figure out the puzzle and i went home like that that i would have slept a lot better than just all of us looking at it trying to figure out like what are we doing and it was brutal i'm like my heart is breaking as like i'm watching these other people build the puzzle we're stuck oh my god it was tough yeah i i agree with you i think uh there is a balance to sitting back and letting other people uh take the risk of losing it for their tribe but at a certain point you do feel better like i'm taking this one for myself there's moments in survivor i was like i should have done the fucking puzzle i don't care if i win or lose i don't care if i win or lose i don't care if i win or lose i should have just taken control of my destiny because i knew that i was on the outs and at least i give myself a fighting chance and it's on my shoulders rather than some doofus i wouldn't call them doofuses but my point exactly you try to get me kicked up you try to get me kicked off the helicopter they already kicked you off dude they already kicked you off oh they oh did they they did they kick me out they choked me out oh my god ori we had a question last night on the podcast about the ribs and the corn on the cob did they give you a fresh plate i know that's a little behind the scenes they give you a fresh plate as you got off the boat for the tribe no no we'll take you behind the curtain it was not that was the same this is the same plate we got from the meetup that was the one we took on the boat we took out there but listen you want you want you want you on the beach for 13 14 days man sure anything with coconut water so whether it's steaming and fresh or or you you you've been on a 20 minute boat ride with it one thing we're gonna do we're gonna eat it yeah ain't gonna be no complaints we're gonna eat it so it wasn't a fresh plate but they were delicious i ain't gonna lie i needed that okay tempted to eat about half of it on the boat ride over to the beach and just be like i don't know what happened it's only one piece of corn yeah it's one rib and one corn for you guys listen if if if i if i knew they were gonna send me home the plate would have came back empty not one rib and one it would have came back empty yeah the least i could do is eat since y'all since y'all gonna since y'all gonna betray me the least i could do is eat but yeah you uh also could have we were thinking outside the box to let us know how this sits with you i feel like you're too much of a team player to do this but uh tell them that you had a clue back at the at the island and you had to eat that plate of food in front of them oh oh okay that's not bad y'all made him hate me a little bit that's not bad you have to i have to jeff made me do this yeah jeff made me do it and then it'd be like what's the reward for it i mean yeah what happens okay i get to come back and and uh kristin has to go to exile so my punishment is i have to come and eat this uh in front of you in front of you but i don't have to go to exile so i have to come and eat this uh in front of you in front of you but i don't have to go to exile so i have to come and eat this uh in front of you in front of you but i don't have to go to exile so i have to come and eat this uh in front of you in front of you but i don't have to go to exile so i have to go to exile and i don't have a chance at a uh thing back there at exile like she's probably gonna have uh we just like to think outside the box uh that way or are you are you a student of the game because we talked about this like have you how many episodes seasons have you seen i've watched um i've watched my fair share like i said like i definitely wasn't like i i'll be honest i definitely watched it but when things were getting real i locked in so i've seen all the 40s um seeing seen a lot of og episodes a lot of og seasons that i've been watching and i've seen you do your thing tyson see seeing them try to try to do you terrible heroes versus villains so i'll go i'll go back real real far another thing was like i remember i chatted gpt i'm like i described myself as a player and like what season would i watch strategically that would help the game of play like me so i did my homework i did my homework i took i took my time i did my homework i got at least 15 to 20 seasons in my pocket so not not not a super duper fan but listen i didn't go out there blind i tried my best not to well i'm not a super duper fan but well i'm not a super duper fan but i'm gonna tell you we were really impressed with the way you played i think especially being able to keep to yourself when it didn't need to be said and i think that even the best of players can sometimes get excited about having some information and talk a little too much what was that a plan of yours going in is that how you are as a person or was that a struggle for you to keep some of those uh things uh just to yourself oh absolutely you hit you hit on the head like my head was on the ground and i was like i'm gonna do this i'm gonna do this one yeah i'm just a i'm a low-key laid-back dude nash that's why that's what i do but like that was my game plan like tyson have you seen me i'm huge bro i'm six three muscle on top of muscles doing this never in my life have i ever had that yo look at me how do you attention pick me never in my life so i had to play low-key i had to lay back and it was one of those things where it served my game so well because again i was there for two weeks there's people that's there's people that's gonna be there for another two weeks it's gonna be a visual winner so there's so much they can show but like there's some they're gonna show so much but there's so much they didn't show like being able to play low-key being able to play low-key being able to play low-key being able to pull the strings from behind the curtain like i was like a side assassin back there i remember like it was like early in the game so i'm like day four or five i'm like carter's gonna win me this game because when carter when carter you need it was amazing it was perfect for me because again like because Like, I know I voted with Carter and Anna went home and I was on the wrong side of the votes and everybody else voted for Anna and sent Anna home. But you see, when we all came back, it was like, oh, Carter can't go to mutiny. Carter's next one out. No one was worried about Ori. Why? Because like, even though I knew I was going to vote with Carter and Anna because I gave my word, I pulled everyone to the side. I'm like, listen, I know the plan. I know you guys have enough numbers. I gave them my word. I'm going to stick this way, but I'm not going to blow you guys a spot up. I'm not going to mess anything up. I'm not going to tell you guys. I'm not going to try to deviate. And it's like little things like that that like, oh, it garnered a lot of trust. Listen, he knows how to keep his mouth shut. He knows how to stay out of the way. He knows how to let us play our game. He's also trustworthy. It was one of those things when Carter mutinied, when Carter goes to Choca and he wants to speak highly and lay out a nice path, a nice rose petal path, brag about somebody, speak up about somebody, it's going to be me. I mean, if he's going to bad talk anybody, it's not going to be me. So it's one of those things where like, I didn't even have to leave South. And I was getting relationships built. And you've seen that a lot in the game because just even when we would do it down, OG Savu, like Alexis walks, Jenna, like, oh, give me your shoes. Not me. But even though she's like, I don't, I don't know. I'm scared of Jelly and Dev. I'm like, I don't trust Jenna. We got to go with them. And that was, that was a decision. Like I said, when it was us four, Alexis was like, oh, we're going to rocks. Like she even, she's like, she had no inclination. She didn't like, it was impossible for her to think I wasn't going to vote for her, you know? Right. And that was because, like I said, like just building those relationships and just, I mean, being low key, I mean, I'm here, I'm talking, I'm there, but I'm going to stay out the way. If I need to stay out the way, I'm going to let you do your thing. It like went so far for me. It put me in such a good position. That's why I like, it was super heartbreaking because like, I was in such a good position and the way I was playing was, was paying dividends times 10, man. It was paying his dividends times 10. Yeah. I'd have to agree. Riley, you got something for Ori? Yeah. When you got back to the beach with Devin and Jelly, well, after you lost the challenge, did you try to bluff? Like you had gotten idle or an advantage or something at the summit, or was it more just trying to convince them to vote one way or the other? Oh man, that's such a good question because that's something they didn't show. It's so funny because the, the, the day before the summit, we, we made a fake iron together. Like, like we were, we were bored. We had, we, we had, we had time to waste and we made a fake iron together. Oh my God. So, so like, I couldn't even bluff it. And it's so, it's so funny. Cause it was like one of those things where like, I play, I play such a low key game, such a, such a close to my chest, quiet game. Cause I was like, cause there's going to be a point in time where I might have to bluff and say, I have something. And like, I got to have enough equity. I got to have my name. God be good enough. And like my, the way I'm seen and reviewed has to be good enough that like, if I say I have an idol, they're going to believe me. Like, and I mean, I remember that was a plan. That's why I was, I was like, that's why I got to play the way I'm playing. Like, like we were so bored that we literally ended up making an idol together. So yeah, that was a killer. That was a killer. Bummer. Ashley. Yeah. What happened to the showmance? Did you and Jelly ever explore that? Or was it just like sibling energy from on the camp? Yeah. Now, me and Jelly are cool. Like I said, she's coming to New York. I've been to Midwest. We hung out. We spent time together. She's a dope girl. We're cool, man. We're cool. We'll leave it at that. Okay. Well, we can let our imaginations do the rest. You go last thing before we let you go, Ori, the helicopter Alliance. You've got, uh, two people gone now. Is this better or worse for them moving forward? Honestly, it's going to be an uphill battle for them now that they're too small of a group. If we're thinking game wise, I think they're in a great position, Tyson. Yeah. Cause they're not coming in as too big at the merge. They're not coming in too big at the merge. That's why I was just like, that's why I was just like, for, for both of their games, they were best friends. Like it was sore, but I was like, if for either of their game, the best thing was to split up and just take me. Cause they've been like, wait, Ori and Jelly, um, Devon, Jelly like this. How did Ori get there? You know? Yeah. It brought attention to me. But even, but even though, like I said, it's two of them, they have an extra vote. They have an idol. They have Sharonda. So extra vote plus them three. So that's four people already, you know, you know, you can do a million things with idols and like the Sabu connections and how Toka's at each other's throats. Like they're, they're in a really, really good position. I feel like if they make it, another two, three votes, the game is theirs. The game is, the game is theirs. So like, I can't wait to see it, but they're in a really, really good position. And I hate to say it cause I'm a hater. Cause I'm not out there with them, but listen, I'm excited to watch. They're in a really good position. I think they could run this game. Okay. So you said you were a hater, but then you're telling, saying they could run this game. Are you secretly hoping they run this game or are you secretly hoping that they are the next few to go? And then like, what's going to make you feel better? Oh, I'm, I'm, I'm hoping they run this game, Tyson. Come on, man. Okay. Wow. That's a lot of love. Them losing, listen, listen, listen, them, them losing not going to make me a million dollars. That's true. I mean, I'm not going to win $2 million. So it's one of those things where it's just like, if y'all had to kill me and stab me in the back, I hope it's for something. I hope it's worth something. Okay. Cause if we are, cause if we all end up broke and on our couches and y'all send me the fuck home when I thought I could win it, it's going to be a problem. Okay. Well, you're a much bigger player. You're a much bigger man than me, Ori. Kudos to you. Cause I would just be, I've got a list. I've got lists, dude. I've got file cabinets filled with lists. You got a burn book. You got a burn book. Yeah. Yeah. Like not one it's plural. Ori, thank you so much for your time and your energy. It seems like you're doing great. And I would vote right now to get you back out on the Island in a future season. Hey Tyson, you a big dog, man. Your words hold weight. I'm a producer. Big Ori Tyson said, bring him back. So you know what to do. Bring Ori back. Bring him back. He has what it takes. He definitely. I appreciate that, man. I appreciate that so much guys. It was a blast, man. And Tyson, I'm a big fan. I'm a huge, huge fan besides the point. So this is dope, man. Thank you. Like I said, y'all showed me a lot of love on the podcast. So I appreciate that, man. I really appreciate that. Our pleasure. You deserve all of it. Thanks, Ori. Take care. All right, Ashley. Ori, what did you think? He is the most positive man. He is the most positive man in America, I think. He just gives off that energy all the time. Just like, yeah, everything was. And I'm just like, it makes me feel calm. So I definitely see why he was able to vote out Alexis and Jenna really easy and trick them into thinking that everything was okay. He's really good at making you feel like everything's okay. And I kind of forgot for a second that he just got eliminated. But man, there was nothing he could have done. There was nothing he could have done. Yeah, I kind of agree. And we went back and forth about whether or not keeping Alexis would have done something for him. Winning challenges definitely would have kept him in the game. But other than that, it's like, if he keeps Alexis, he burns more bridges, creates more enemies, has more work. And at some point, you do have to expose your game a little bit to players. But like this early in the game, it's really hard to do that and then bounce back. So I think it was a tricky situation for him. Riley? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I feel like having thought about it overnight, I'm really thinking about this new Sabu tribe as the avatar for why smaller tribes are just less dramatic than bigger tribes. You know, they got swapped onto a group of five. And then they ended up going to three straight challenges, which is their fault. They need to have won a challenge. But once they were losing, it was like, Jenna was dead. Alexis was dead. And then now we get Ori just drawing dead as well. And that's like three votes in a row with really not that much drama. And it's like when you're in these smaller groups, you just have no room to maneuver. And it's not. I don't know. I was thinking about this overnight and I was like, well, isn't that just the endgame of Survivor? Like, that's just what the final six is normally. But it's not because there's so much that goes into when you're at final nine, final eight, thinking about exactly, oh, who am I going to get into that small group with? Who can I work with? Who do I need to be like here so that I have the votes? But when it's a swap like this, you obviously have no control. You just get put into a group. And the only control you have is maybe your group wins that challenge or doesn't. Well, and also to your point, it's not like the endgame in the fact that you also have to measure how the other tribes are going to react to the decisions you're making on this small tribe. So it's not like I just got to get to the end of this tribe with the two lowercase goats to ensure I win this thing. You're on top of that now saying, okay, so what's going to bring me the most amount of trust when we all come back together or if we do another swap or whatever thing is going to happen? And I have to agree too, I think there's been a lot of discourse about the two tribe versus the tribe. And I think that's a really good point. And I think that's the three tribe. We saw the two tribes start this season for the first time in like 10, 11 seasons, whatever it was. It was so good. So good. And it was naturally good. It was like the best three episode stretch. Naturally good. And I think the three tribes swap here, I think the edit could have definitely made them more exciting. We didn't need to get the sad music with Aurier's exit without, we could have been blindsided as fans. I think they had done enough work at the scramble in order to get it to make it seem like maybe Devin, maybe Jelly does think it's a good idea to get rid go with Ori. Like we kind of were believing that I think in real life, there was no doubt from in any of the three. Um, so yeah, I think more chaos, like let's the two tribe, the big tribe creates the chaos. That is the unknown, like, because people are acting emotionally, irrationally, strategically, all of the above. And there's more options too. You know, if you do find yourself on the bottom or you have people, you don't try, there's more areas where you can go to. There's more different things. You can maneuver. Yeah. You can maneuver versus I know it's been thrown out where it's like, Oh, and these small tribes, they have nowhere to hide. It's like, they're nowhere to hide, but they have nothing to do. They just can't, they're just, they talked to three people and they're like, Oh, no one wants to vote for me. And it's over, you know? So it's, uh, man, we had that, that 11 person vote in episode three, that was just elective. And then since then, I feel like it's really sputtered, but you know, now I'm hopeful with the merge coming up, which we're going to talk about too, um, that, you know, we'll, we'll be back in a big group where there's a lot to do as there always is. So, um, but hopefully production looks at this and sees like, okay, this, this is pretty definitive. Like the big tribe votes were way more compelling than once we swapped the three. Right. Right. Uh, I did talk a little bit to, production at survivor and, um, like today, like yesterday, a week or two ago about the three tribe versus the two tribe a little bit. And they said, there is a lot that goes into the three tribe to kind of scramble and mix things up and, and get people off their game and on their game and stuff like that. They don't want one group going into the merge and it just become a begonging, but yeah, exactly. And they want the others to meet each other. And how do they do that without just in case, so it isn't a begonging all the time. They want those cross tribal cross lines, cross alliance, uh, connections. Um, so still, I think that they could still do a swap, but still keep it with two tribes. So it's still at least like larger groups that doesn't fully guarantee that people won't get swap screwed basically, but at least you're still giving them some room where it's like, okay, there are like seven, eight, nine people that I can talk to, to try and dig myself out of a hole instead of like three. Yeah. Um, I wonder again, if there's a way that you could just like swap half the tribe for the other, for half the, like you keep half a tribe and then the, like something like that. I don't know. I think it would be like, they can still do, I think survive the survivor producers really, really want to have a three per three tribe, um, every now and then if they would just have it for like one episode and switch through the tribe, like, Oh, it was two tribes here, put into three for this episode and then put into two for the next one. I think it could still keep it up. And especially for the open era where anything goes, if everyone's consistently confused alliances or this way, that way, that way all the time, they can still do the three per three tribe, uh, thing for an episode. But to me, I think it's still a good idea. I think it's still a good idea. I think it's still a good idea to do it back to back is, is the mistake because that's when people get screwed over. So you don't want to make a disaster tribe. You want to keep everyone on their toes. So you have to keep consistently tribe swapping. If you want to have the three tribes tribe did become the disaster tribe. Like the other tribes, they, they started short, short handed and then they had, and then they lost a couple. And so then all the other tribes were sitting out three people. Yeah. It's like you get down to three and you're like, okay, every, the other two tribes each have to vote for one person to go over to that tribe. Yes. They just got to do something. Even it out. Yeah. Yeah. Keep it going. Yeah. I think there are things that could be done, but, uh, the other thing that Ori said that really kind of stood out to me that I don't think we've talked about, he is six three and he's like 250 pounds of muscle. Yeah. And we never once said, that's a scary, intimidating, uh, bro, we bro Brody because he was so low key and so chill. Yeah. I still think at the merge, people would look at him and be like challenge threat because he's so big, but it really wasn't talked about. It wasn't mentioned. Whereas Brody Brady is always in the drama always, you know, talking about how he can't hide. Yeah. It is a personality thing only, but that's what I'm saying. Like you can still hide as a big muscly dude. Yes. Yes. I agree. Like, I think he purposely wasn't taking his shirt off. I know Jeremy Collins famously refused to remove his shirt when he had a awesome six pack because he didn't want people to be intimidated by it. Yeah. And Ori kind of also always kept his shirt on. Maybe that was, uh, play from Jeremy's book. But this is what I would do too now. Cause I don't want people to see my six pack. That's what I do. That's what I'm doing right now. So I do think, uh, I like, I hadn't even thought of that, but like nobody, uh, yeah, nobody even questioned or considered or thought like, Oh, this guy is a Brody. Like let's get him gone. And I think he did a wonderful job at just maintaining his low key and, and, uh, and being chill. I think he was going to go far if he had made the merge. If they win this challenge, which it is their fault, they were not even competitive in this challenge. Uh, but if they, if they had somehow been more competitive and pulled it out, I think he was going far. Yeah. Yeah. I think so too. I think like you get that guy that's just like keeps everything to himself. You just feel like you can trust somebody who you, especially on survivor, like to not have a secret come back to you that the only person you told was this guy. Like that's really powerful. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, I do hope we see him in future seasons. I think he's fun on camera. I think he's a very smart, uh, socially and, uh, and it would be fun to see him navigate in, uh, you know, where the chips or cards or whatever fall in his favor a little bit. Yeah. So he's got to come back please, Jeff. Yeah. Just for a little bit. We know you're listening, Jeff on half speed. Jeff is interesting because he'll listen to this podcast on half speed. So it goes longer for him. Everyone else does. Yeah. Everyone else does double speed. Jeff's out here listening, on half speed, which is cool of him. Uh, anything else before, uh, before we close it down? Did we miss anything? Did anything on your mind about, uh, last night's episode that we forgot to talk about or didn't really touch on? You know, there are, I've gotten a couple of, uh, DMs. I'm looking through them now to remember what I missed. Um, Tyson, do you know what you say? Whale like, well, I've gotten a couple of people that want me to ask you about this. You're always like, Oh, there moving the well. Yeah. I don't like to say the hard H in there. I always just assumed that's how it was said until people started saying it. And even my kids say, well, with an H and I am like, why are you like enunciating the H in there? Get that out. Just whale. Whale. Whale. Yeah. Whale and whale. They're two different things. They're just a barely, different. Summary:

FAQs

No, Ori did not eat from a fresh plate. He received the same plate from the meetup and had to eat it before being betrayed, which he saw as a form of punishment despite it being uncomfortable.

Ori and his team made a fake idol together during downtime as a bluff, demonstrating their preparation and ability to create false information to gain trust or manipulate votes.

The swap created a smaller, more vulnerable tribe that had limited strategic options, making it harder to build alliances and increasing the pressure on the remaining members to act quickly.

Ori believes that three-tribe formats can be exciting and effective, as they introduce chaos and cross-tribal connections, but warns against doing them back-to-back, as that can lead to predictable and unfair outcomes.
