‘Survivor 50’ Episode 11 Exit Interviews! | The Pod Has Spoken
52m 54s
The episode blends personal reflections from returning Survivor players Emily and Ozzy with fan-driven commentary and game strategy discussions. Emily openly admits to poor gameplay due to impulsive speech and flawed alliance decisions, notably during the rice incident and pivotal tribal councils, while expressing regret but also pride in her moments of strategic clarity. Ozzy emphasizes emotional authenticity, sharing his personal connection with his father and a desire to be vulnerable on the show, which resonates deeply with fans. The conversation highlights how Survivor’s appeal has evolved beyond just competition, now centered on personal growth, emotional honesty, and human vulnerability. Fans respond positively to this deeper narrative, noting increased empathy and connection with players. The episode also introduces a fan-proposed fire-making challenge as a new game mechanic to heighten drama and tension during tribal councils. Overall, the discussion underscores a shift in Survivor’s storytelling—prioritizing emotional depth and player maturity over pure strategy—resulting in a more relatable and impactful viewing experience. Closing remarks celebrate the journey of returning players, who see personal growth and emotional honesty as greater rewards than the million-dollar prize.

king's hawaiian cinnamon bites there's nothing like it
exit press day at the pod has spoken uh double elimination last night and uh two entertaining uh
podcast guests we'll see how their spirits are first we have emily and then ozzy enjoy
all right it's with uh deep sorrow and much heartbreak that we have uh
the only financial analysis i know that's ever played
survivor mostly because uh it's part of her name now uh in the survivor verse emily flipping we
talked a little bit before we hit record about grievances you may have and how you're going to
air all of those and you said uh most of the grievances are with yourself can you expound on
that yeah i really wish i could just um blame everybody else but i genuinely don't think i
can blame anybody else for my terrible gameplay other than myself and my inability to think before
i speak
christian said it really well when he said like emily has foot and mouth syndrome that is a very
real thing and i didn't realize how real that was for me until i'm watching this season back and
i'm yelling at my tv like goodness gracious emily just keep your trap shut for once in your life so
yeah i i feel like i i am the bane of my own existence here what's the cure for foot and
mouth disease is that have they come up with or syndrome have they come up with a cure for that
you know clearly tyson i didn't win survivor 50 so i don't know if i can afford a psychologist
that's good enough
answer that question if you figure out a cure please tell me send it my way i could still use
it um i'm probably going to make an example of how i could still use it during this podcast
oh you are oh i don't know i always look i put my foot in my mouth we have established that i need
to think before i speak but yeah i hope i don't have anything too crazy i mean now it's my goal
here to keep going until we get you to to do something um looking back and watching last night
is you knew the writing was on the wall like it's you and rick are the targets you're in this small
group you multiple times you were like it's probably me but i have to try is there anything
not i don't think on that particular day you could have done anything more for yourself than you did
but leading up to that through the season if you could go back and change what is there something
that you think could have potentially helped you had you maneuvered differently earlier in the
season
yeah definitely i mean all else equal i think um the big challenge for me was i was so tight
in my head with the seal of four alliance between myself rick christian and sari and i thought that
we were tight and obviously when christian was voted off sari had kind of decided that she was
she was moved on from that alliance she had alliances with a lot of people and she had to
make a judgment call on like okay which which alliance am i going to go with here and um i
could have tried harder with sari to kind of connect with her one-on-one at some point as
you're hitting the merge like it felt like sari and tiffany were just starting to become like
attached at the hip and it was really hard to get her alone and i felt like i could see my
positioning with sari which is so funny because i was like sari is like the queen of the tribe but
like it's because i lost favor with the queen so to speak that i feel like it was really hard for
me to kind of crawl back into a position of power so when the split tribal came it was very very very
obvious to me that it was they wanted rick gone but rick had an idol and i was going to be the
person voted off and um i was like oh my god i'm going to be the person voted off and i'm going to
i had very little maneuvering that i could do so i came up with this plan that was never going to
work because sari is not an idiot and she has an extra vote uh but in my mind i was thinking to
myself this is maybe my best chance uh simply to change my positioning in the game i thought about
playing my shot in the dark that has a better statistical chance probably versus what we
concocted but that in the best case scenario just like buys you another week it doesn't actually
cause you to win the game like i'm still in a bad spot i'm still a no vote finalist
unless this works so this was the best plan i could come up with emily did you know that
had an extra vote no if i did i would have played it differently that's what i wanted to ask you
the rules of this extra vote there's a lot of discourse online we had some confusion amongst
our podcast here last night was it clear to you that when the extra vote was played and it was a
2-2-2 vote that everyone would re-vote and sari would get her extra vote again um no it was not
clear to me if i had known that an extra vote was an option i of course could have at any point asked
about the details of that rule but because i didn't even know there was an extra vote in play
i never thought to ask i don't think it would make a difference though about whether or not you could
play the extra vote on the re-vote i don't think anything changes there right because i yeah we
talked about that and we there was some confusion i don't know that that's happened before with the
re-vote and the extra vote and everyone going back to the jury too when i got when i got back
to ponderosa i got a fair number of questions like you know christian and others who were asking
but did you what did she got to vote twice and she got to vote twice and she got to vote twice
even on the re-vote and i was like i was going home anyway guys yeah um let's talk about your
first time versus a returning season can you speak to the energy is it different is the gameplay
different does the does the game move differently what are some of the biggest uh differences
entirely different game i actually i i love you know i'm happy i played 50 i had more fun on 50
because i had less to lose right you've already been there done that so you're just there to have
fun in my mind like i want to win but you know it's even after the two million oh well after the
two million i was still drawn dead i knew that at least um but i wanted somebody to win the two
million okay yeah but it just you don't have the same novel experience that's the first time you
played and it is totally different but i do think a lot of the differences of season 50 was there's
a lot of pressure because of season 50 the cast was huge and there were just a ton of twists so
it's almost like comparing apples and oranges did you get on and do the fan voting uh of course and
i voted no rice i wanted everybody to be miserable i was like look if i have to suffer every i'm an
equal opportunity sufferer except for that when sari was like let's eat all the rice right now
you pushed back okay this is i thank you thank you for bringing up the rice incident because i
will say i look i didn't play a good game of survivor this season i made so many mistakes
that i can't even list them all out we'll be here for three hours if i try to explain to
you all the mistakes i made i stand by the rice that's the one thing i stand by she cooked
an insane amount of rice we couldn't even eat it all it was so much it was like half the rice
i was like why is nobody saying anything emily i don't know if you're familiar with the tyson
apostle school of thought on rice uh consumption i would pour it all out you don't know if you're
gonna be there tomorrow just eat it all just get it gone and then nobody has to have a conversation
about it that's my whole play is like i'm probably a target and i would hate to go uh home
and them still have rice that to me is just like so bad but maybe that's just i look if i thought
like that i should have because i'm 45 we ran out of rice and that's why i kept thinking to myself
was like man we ran out of rice on 45 and i don't want to the poor people who are going to be here
for final three aren't going to have anything to eat even though i'm aware it's probably not
going to be me and sari is probably also thinking to herself girl why are you sitting here talking
as if you're going to be here in two days yeah i got in an argument with adam klein
on winners at war over the rice and he's like that's just bad gameplay to not
ration i was like why would i ration for everyone who's probably not going to be me like there's no
like i'm acting uh unselfishly while everyone else is just like doing the like come on adam
we still don't agree on that so uh i guess you're on the adam klein camp of uh rationing the rice
i said i didn't regret it i actually now regret it i regret it now because i'm sold that easily
you're right you're right and also to your point or earlier you made so many
mistakes you know what 23 people are going to say that this season so it's not like that's
that's how i doubt 23 people are going to say that but 23 people definitely made mistakes
23 people should be saying that by the end of it all uh not sure that they will but they should
uh last question from me before we turn it over to riley and ashley
round three what adjustments would you make oh there's not never going to be around three
now that they would ask but never going to happen again um but i
actually it's so ironic oh it's so damn ironic i said this going into season 50
i said somebody asked like what did you learn from d's game plan
45 and i said d knows when to share information and with who she doesn't talk too much and i'm
going to take that and that's what i'm going to do on 50 somebody sound clip that and just stitch
it with me doing the exact opposite for hours on end so if i ever were to find myself in a position
where i was back i would i swear this time i would like to think i could keep my trap shut
i'd like to think that i mean you got to find the cure first uh send it my way yeah okay i'll i will
do some research or it's probably not going on reality tv some tv producer realized that hey this
girl speaks before she thinks put her on tv yeah that's the whole thing of it like the second you
figure it out they're like well we don't need her anymore uh riley what do you have well emily why
do you say uh you you wouldn't go back for a third time oh a number of reasons the first one being
nobody would work with me nobody would touch me with a 10-foot pole i'm dead on arrival on any
returning season um i don't think the fans want to watch me blow up everybody's game for a second
time in a row but also like it the first time you play survivor it is cool it is novel it is unique
it is a fun experience like the returning season i felt like we spent so much time just trying to
digest and understand like people's pre-game relationships it took some of like the fun out
of it for me like i still enjoyed myself but it was just it was a totally different game different
experience it's business the second time is business it's not the adventure the unknown
the adventure of the unknown as you've already you already know it yeah so it did seem like you
had like uh some fun out there with devins and i'm curious what was the most fun like the biggest
move or just like the best moment for you oh my gosh every moment with devins was awesome i i go
back to his mr beast coin flip um i was so afraid like i felt like devins was probably going to go
home at that tribal of course and everybody was a mess nobody really had an idea but i felt like
that was going to happen he knew he was on the bottom and the thought about going back to camp
without him was devastating i was like wow it's just take all the fun out of the game
rip my heart out the little silver lining to my dark clouds are going to be gone and i have to
go back to camp with these guys without rick there god kill me now um so when you still had joe for
the fun you know what the funny thing is is that i actually had a decent relationship with joe i i
think i don't actually i'll let joe for speak for himself on that but like day one he came up to me
emily emily flippen and he was like hey i really think that we could work well together and i was
gagged i was like i i you know you never say no to an alliance i said are you sure are you like you
know who i am right and he was like yeah i want to work with people who are a bit different than me
this time around and i think he genuinely meant it and you know while nothing really came of that
obviously you didn't see it in the edit and stuff but like we just kept circling back even through
the merge like we were just touching base with each other like maybe maybe this could still be
something even though we didn't see it in the edit and stuff but like we just kept circling back
i'm obviously very close to rick and the hilarious hatred between joe and rick it was just
irreconcilable differences you talk about the fan reaction uh about watching you spill everyone's
secrets was that negative or positive a mixture i i feel like it was part of the entertainment of
the show was watching that yeah you never you never want to be the entertainment but i guess
i was the entertainment which if somebody enjoys watching an absolute disaster like the train wreck
and they can't walk away
then you probably had fun with me i hated it um of course i knew coming into 50 from 45 like
i ended 45 on such a high note there was only down like i could only get worse from there in
terms of public perception because i got this beautiful hero's edit that was really generous
but overly generous to like who i am as a person so i knew that like realistically speaking i'm
gonna make mistakes i'm gonna mess up people are probably not going to like me as much
so i was kind of emotionally and mentally prepared for that reality but it is it's still jarring you
know i've said it but it's like you either like die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself
become a villain and i just hope in this case the villain that i was i hope it was fun and
entertaining i was doing my best to laugh at it although i understand it was frustrating and
irritating i felt very frustrated and irritated with myself at various points have you taken
anything uh that you've learned from this round of survivor into your daily life i think last
last time you ended up getting married is that and you know what my husband watched all that
craziness on 50 and he didn't divorce me yet if he's still there maybe still in the process of it
i don't know i haven't got the papers yet um he's like what a saint but no i i think i learned to
shut the fuck up okay no i mean i don't know it's it's working it got you where you're at right now
emily i don't uh don't be too hard on yourself also i remember great nailed it i mean i've been
worse than that more more times than i've been better also i do want to talk about the fact that
i think people would work with you you go back a third season like that would you work with me
yeah i would try beach i go to every tribal council and i spill shit you're gonna you're
gonna be like yeah that's that's the ally i want emily my tribe does not go to the first
tribal council ever well never in the history of my reality tv career have i ever been to the first
elimination i've always been safe from first elimination so now i feel like i want to go
back i want to play with you i don't be on your tribe i want to make you go to the first tribal
council and then i'll inevitably sink your game i'll get voted off first and we'll come back to
this conversation and i'll be like i told you no wrong then what would happen is we would win the
first immunity challenge i would go to you i'd be like we got three days to figure it out also
i told you so um i wouldn't know what to do with myself i think people would be more than open and
willing to work with you i think you're you're too hard on yourself in this moment watching it back
because you know yourself but i do believe that there's come on people are gonna work with you
that are gonna end up on that same beach like people all the time ask me about survivor and i
could never do i was like have you seen the amount of incompetence on that show you are fine you're
in group of 10 you're gonna be safe so that's kind of you to say but let's give other incompetent
survivor players a second shot first okay i want to see them out there who would be your number one
choice for uh returning incompetent player uh for round two an incompetent player i mean um look i
hate to say it i love
this guy andy andy was so close to to being on the cast i i take i think andy and i have
i'm for this is such an insult to him i'm so sorry i'm sorry andy i think we have a lot in common
i would have so much fun watching you play but there's lots of other you know i mentioned caleb
caleb is somebody like he's a little too competent probably he can come across a little bit salesman
you know so maybe you could argue that's incompetence i don't know but he was working
magic people have newfound respect for what caleb was doing on 45 managing me after watching me on
lulu and emily i i swear you can go back and win okay well we talked to him last night and he had
nothing but good things to say about you um that is all the time we well you did yeah you paid him
off with what you didn't have two million to pay him but whatever it was it was enough emily thank
you so much for your time uh you did make watching this season fun and uh i think my professional
opinion you're being way too hard on yourself i agree so yeah y'all are y'all are too sweet let's
see what the internet's going to say about you i think you're being way too hard on yourself i
think it's not but thank you for having me this is a lot of fun yeah thank you thank you see emily

make this season all about the moments you turn
into traditions have a very abercrombie holiday shop in the app online and in stores
all right here we are with the man the myth the legend aussie luth aussie first question from my
dad are you okay now he texted me after he watched the episode and he texted me and he said i know
filmed last year
how is aussie you know i've had 10 months to replay the worst decision of my life over and
over and over but watching it with a room full of survivor fans and fans of mine you know watching
them sort of um see my survivor sunset was honestly a little bit healing it really was to be
able to share that with people and feel all that love um was really was really great because i gotta
tell you this last year has been really rough really rough to be sitting on this decision that
i made horrible decision that i made for so long to finally be able to get it out and like say yep
i really screwed that one up didn't i guys and thank you for the chance all you fans for letting
me play survivor so many times and i'm so grateful to you guys for letting me play survivor so many
times and to evolve my game and to play a different way this last time has just been an absolute gift
Okay, so you've sat on this for a long time.
I've been through a similar torture.
I made a pretty boneheaded move on heroes versus villains.
Watching it back didn't bring it back up.
Is this now another year of torture
or it's healing and a release to let it go?
Well, no, it definitely brings it all back up.
I didn't know that last night's episode
was going to be so dramatic and so vulnerable
and that I was going to be talking about
my relationship with my father and all of that
and seeing all of that and then knowing like,
oh God, I am going to be, watch out guys,
I'm going to be going home.
It was a little bit surprising
and it was at moments difficult,
but we're not robots.
To be able to go out there and show
humanity and show this like primal
feelings and emotions that you start to feel
when you're out there stripped of all distractions
is why we play the game and that's why I'm here
and that's why I think people connected with me
in the first place is because I was willing to be vulnerable
and I'm not going to let the. It's like that's one of the reasons why
I cut the stupidest mullet I could possibly. It was rad, dude.
It was rad.
But also to go out there and be okay
with not taking yourself too seriously.
I'm on a reality TV show
and it's been the ride of a lifetime
and I'm going to do everything in my power
to just be as raw and vulnerable as possible.
You talk about Ozzy,
we're not robots and I also want to say
that that's why the format of Survivor has worked for so. So long is because we're watching humans play a game.
If we were watching robots play a game,
we'd only need to see it once or twice
and then mathematically the robots would make
the correct decision every single time.
Like there's no entertainment value in that.
So being human,
when people ask what it takes to go on the show,
I was like, you have to be like real,
like real, real, like the things in your head,
push them out your mouth.
That's how real you have to be all the time.
How does this experience,
on 50, compare with your past experiences?
Positive, negative, the same?
For sure, man.
Just to go back to what you're saying about being real,
like I, in a lot of my past seasons,
like, you know, when you go on your walks with the producers
and you get a chance to vent,
a lot of those times in past seasons,
I was really guarded and I wasn't saying
the things that I really wanted to say
and I wasn't being,
I wasn't being as honest.
I wasn't being as vulnerable as I could have been.
And that's one of the,
through my experiences,
it was one of my biggest regrets.
And I knew going out and playing 50
that I wanted to crack it open
and just be as raw as I possibly could be.
Make the, you know,
take the time to really connect with people
and just play the game from that point.
So getting a chance to do that,
you know, it,
I just feel like,
I feel like finally I get a little bit of,
maybe a little more credit from people who are like,
oh, Ozzy's such a fucking boring player
because, you know,
all he does is go and do the challenges
and he's like, no, actually not that interesting.
And he's like, you know,
he's kind of a, you know,
just a boring guy to watch.
So I wanted to change that
and I wanted to, you know,
play a totally different way.
So, you know, I hope that came through.
I mean, it did for us.
I think the story was told.
Do you, did you, did it,
did you notice,
did you notice a reaction from fans?
Did people say you played differently?
Were you watching that?
It seems like you have paid attention
to what people say about you.
Yeah.
I mean, I've,
so I've done watch parties
for every single episode this entire season.
Right.
Partially because I wanted to say thank you
to all the fans,
but partially because I wanted to,
you know,
have that sort of like,
that, that finger on the pulse of like,
what are,
what are people going to feel about this?
And to be all,
to be honest,
like the producers,
the editors,
they were so generous to me and my edit,
the things that they decided to show
and the story that they gave me,
the story arc of my whole entire survivor career
culminating in this sort of incredibly emotional,
final tribal council was a blessing.
And I just,
a lot of people,
you know,
like we all know that some magic can happen
to the edit,
edit,
and you may be,
you know,
you may have played a great game,
but you don't get a good edit for whatever reason.
I,
I got so lucky and I just want to say thank you
to those guys for showing me in a way that is,
you know,
how I,
how I hope to be,
you know,
well-rounded.
And sorry to the guys who got a shit at it,
your loss.
Yeah.
Well,
you know,
that's just,
that is part of it.
And sometimes what ends up happening is,
you know,
you have these big players,
that sort of collide and they explode and they kill each other in these
really,
you know,
grotesque and like bloody and gory,
but beautiful ways.
And then you have these other players that just slip through that didn't
really do too much,
but because all the big players destroyed each other,
they're able to like,
Oh,
Oh,
I'm here.
You know?
So that's,
I think part of the edit.
Like if you see people that get to final tribal and don't get any
votes,
and there's a reason why they don't get any votes and we've all played
with them.
I think try,
I think Tyson,
you have,
but you know,
exactly.
And you know,
those types of people.
And it's like,
I don't know.
I would rather go out with a bang than get third place with no votes
personally.
Sure.
Do you think though that you are,
where'd you come from?
This is Riley.
Riley's my co-host.
Ashley's my co-host.
I don't,
but yeah,
but I see you on the Instagram,
but I,
you don't see those eyes like that.
My God.
And those don't they wait till we meet in person.
Don't tempt me.
We're going to be there in two weeks.
Ozzy.
Oh,
I,
to your point though,
there,
I don't think that I think there's certain personalities that will almost
always be zero vote finalists.
I think that just like sometimes people like you have to have a certain
personality or carry yourself a certain way that a lot of times is just
instinctive.
I think that there's a lot of times that there's a lot of times that there's
a lot of times that there's a lot of things that are sexual that some
people just don't have and they can get to the end a thousand times and
still get zero votes every time.
And I think that that's just like the,
it's partly a personality contest at the end.
So,
but I do want to talk about other players a little bit more here.
So we had Emily on earlier and we asked her if she had any grievances to
air with other players.
And she said she only had grievances with herself,
but I might want to talk to you.
I don't know.
About your grievances,
because we saw you and coach clash again.
The it's been a decade over a decade,
immediately water under the bridge to immediate confrontation yet again.
How are you feeling about coach in this moment right now?
I love coach.
He is,
he is a larger than life character.
There's nothing not to love about him and coach like all of us.
He can be his own worst enemy and he was his own worst enemy out there.
I think coach had an opportunity to really put that water under the bridge.
Like we,
he had an opportunity once he stole the key,
which,
you know,
that's controversial gray area,
but he had an opportunity to right there to be like,
look,
I got the key,
but all right,
Q Ozzie.
What maybe let's talk about this.
What maybe we should have an,
maybe we should have an alliance.
Maybe,
maybe,
maybe,
maybe,
maybe,
maybe,
maybe we should have an alliance.
Why don't we give it to Q?
Why don't we give it to,
you know,
I think there's a moment where you can really like,
not just go with the obvious.
I'm going to,
I'm I won.
I'm going to take this because as we know in survivor,
sometimes when you lose,
you win because look at what happened to me.
That twist happened.
Q and I have to stay there.
We're like us.
I spent literally right after that challenge.
I spent the rest of the afternoon scouring exile for,
for an idol.
I was like,
Oh,
there's gotta be an idol here.
Because it kind of alluded to that.
And then we spend the night together in the morning.
Then we see the advantage comes and it was a game changing advantage that
coach could have had access to.
If he had taken a moment to just,
it would have been a very possible that like coach could have had that
advantage and his game would have been totally different.
He could be winning the game right now.
You know what I'm saying?
So I do love coach.
I do think that he gets,
he's,
is his own worst enemy,
but he's also like,
you know,
you ever want to random Confucius coat quote or quote from Magellan or
captain cook or Leviticus.
I mean,
I mean,
you know,
it's like,
he's got quotes for days.
He researches these before he goes on.
You know that,
right?
I do know that.
And I tried to do that.
And I'm like,
I don't know.
I can't,
I couldn't,
I just can't keep those things in my head.
I can't.
I tried to read the old Testament before heroes versus villains.
Just thinking that'd be so funny.
And I like,
I got a page into it and was like,
no,
there's no way to,
In the beginning.
Yeah, exactly.
What about real life?
Rizzo. We saw you have that little exchange with him on your exit. How do you feel about Rizzo?
Now, basically what I'm getting at is you go back for round six, coach and Rizzo are there.
Are you working with them? Go back for round six. Am I working with coach and Rizzo?
I'm going to work with them until I'm not going to work with them. But look, I'll be honest,
Rizzo, the self-proclaimed Riz God. And I know you're watching Rizzo. Like, listen, son,
you remind me a lot of myself when I was in my twenties.
Data challenges.
Well, you got to be a well-rounded player to do well in this game. You got to be, you can't just
be the like Mr. Clip soundbite tribal council killer. Like you don't do anything at camp.
You don't seem to enjoy yourself even out here in nature, like enjoying the beauty of where we're at.
You throw your main Alliance member under the bus by getting me voted out. And I don't know,
does it ever work out when people cross Surrey? So listen, I think that he's got a lot of learning
to do. He got a big old head from 49 rolls into 50. We don't know anything about him.
He was able to get onto Surrey's good sides. That's why I gave him more credit than I think
I should have. Cause I didn't really trust.
Him. I, you know, he's like one of those people. It's like, I love you. I love you. I love you.
I'm like, do you love everybody? Maybe he does, but you just throwing that out there, you know,
like, so I got little bits of bone, but it's all in good fun. I do appreciate his bravado.
There is God, but like, you know, you're more of a demigod, but the, you guys, I mean,
maybe not even God yet. You're, you're, you're working up to it. So yeah, I mean, it's, it is,
it is pretty funny though. Cause he is hilarious and I do appreciate him, but it's also,
it's quite astounding how much he reminds me of myself. And it's like,
round yourself out a little bit more.
Well, maybe on his fifth, his fifth try.
Riley, what do you have for Ozzy?
Ozzy, how has Jeff changed from your first season? I mean, all the way through your
survivor career to survivor 50. Oh, wow. That's a good question. First, no, Tyson,
you actually asked a lot of great questions. Yeah. I wasn't feeling bad.
Damn. That's so, I don't know if Tyson, you can attest to this, but I feel like I've watched
Jeff grow up a lot and Jeff is, he's just become a more sort of, he's still a hard ass and he'll
still call you out and he'll still swear like a sailor, but there's a softness to him from having
kids and like getting into this next stage of life that, you know, he was, he didn't necessarily
have when I first played. But I also think that he, man, he's got so much energy. I feel like he
could go another five years. If they keep renewing, we could be seeing survivor 60. And then it's
like, well, could he do 70? So I have a hard time believing that they're going to want to continue
without him. But at the same time, I don't think he's going anywhere. Cause he's fucking, I mean,
he's like taking care of himself, you know, he's still looking good. Um, and he's still
super sharp. So Jeff's matured. And I think he's like really coming into his own as a host.
I think, yeah, to, to what you're saying, I feel like he's at some point,
been more grateful for where he's at and what he has. And at some point he was like,
this is amazing. What I have here, let me nurture and build and cultivate rather than, you know,
it's a job and I need to make sure execute it's perfect. And everybody here has to like do this
and be like, I think at some point he was just like, this is amazing. What I'm doing is an amazing
job. Let's, uh, write it till the wheels fall off, whatever his inner monologue is. I can't
do it. I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it.
Uh, yeah. Cause the first time you went back to the second, first time I went, second time I went,
there were definitely times where you're like, Oh, he's a hard ass. And this is a job. I,
he's treating me like an employee. And then later on, it's not so much that, that same vibe.
I feel like, I feel like he's kind of having more fun than he's ever had in the past
and allowing himself to, even though, you know, he's getting shit for his rap.
And he's, you know, getting on stage and performing and he, but at the end of the day,
man, you gotta have fun. And I think he's allowing himself to enjoy it in a whole new way and explore
other parts of himself that he hasn't been able to in the past. And he's just like, all right,
like, you know, the rap thing, like, come on, you know, and then him doing the rock thing.
And it's just like, it's beautiful. I love it. And him putting himself out there
in the challenge, which I'm actually really surprised he didn't do as well as
he did because man, you've seen his, his forum. Yeah. I was surprised too. And also like
the scales a little bit, that's a challenge that you can just like, you know, put nothing in the
bucket. Like you could have easily, you could have easily had John Kerhofer just like set you
up for a victory there, or at least be a couple people. Definitely. He, he got sweaty palms. I'm,
I guarantee you, he got, he got in his head, nervous going into that sweaty palms done.
And then we're all like,
it was so fun to be able to say, you got to dig deep.
All right. On closing Aussie, we got to go, but, uh, is this a good closure for your survivor
journey or is there around six in the future? I mean, listen, if, uh, the real,
now that, now that we're down to 26 days in the U S of a and Australian survivor still
rocking 50, I'd go play Australian survivor, but I will say this, I'm working on a project
I will talk off air about this, but I found some land in Mexico. I've got some investors,
got it, buying a piece of property. We're going to do an eco resort. That's got a little survivor
hook. So fans and cast can come and do either survivor training camps, survivor in a day style,
you know, we'll have like a survivor sort of, um, theme sort of woven into the fabric
of this eco resort. So stay tuned on that. Okay. You know, we will, uh, Aussie always a
pleasure to see and nothing but love from us at the pod has spoken. Thanks for your
time. Wish you would have lasted longer, uh, but still enjoyed watching your journey.
Oh, this was a lot of fun. And, uh, I hope to be on here more in the future. Yeah. We'll
have you back whenever you want. Yeah. Hell yeah, bro. Okay. Thank you guys. Thank you
guys so much. This is great. Oh, there he is. There are those eyes one more time. Oh
God. Hey, see ya. All right. Thank you. All right. Ashley and Riley.
What did you think of Emily and, uh, Aussie on their exit press?
You know, there's some real, real, yeah, I got you both. I got you both. I, I, uh, I put the
question at both of you. Uh, Ashley, you go first. Okay. Um, I liked it. I think Emily is
really fun. I I'm so bummed out that she, I mean, yeah, she did talk a lot and she did spill like
everyone's secrets, but she made it far for someone who does that. So, um, I think Emily
is really fun. I'm just kind of bummed out that she doesn't realize how good of a player
she is. She's a really good player. Like, come on. Everyone said it in their exit interviews.
They're like, yeah, sure. She talks a lot, but she's strategic. She had, uh, connections
all over the camp. Um, but I'm, I'm glad that she can find the humor in it, even though
it's probably really frustrating to watch yourself do that and not be able to change
it. Right. Well, I feel like Aussie and Emily are on the surface, two of the most different
players you could possibly find. Yeah. But then they actually have this similarity that
we, we have here with this reflection, um, and the growth that they've had on survivor,
you know, Emily's much of it was contained to just her first season. Um, but she's carried
it through into the second Aussie. It's, you know, it's five seasons of growth from him.
But, um, yeah, it's really nice to talk to some contestants who are able to look back and have
that maturity.
And see how survivor has affected them as, as people. And even if they didn't get the
result that they necessarily wanted, they can come out of it and kind of be like, oh,
I, I did get something else out of this that might actually be even greater than the million
dollars. Um, yeah, yeah. I felt like you're already like nothing could be better than
the million.
That's just what people tell themselves. It's like when you say money can't buy happiness
and you're like, that is a saying designed by the ultra wealthy to keep, you know, the
those not as fortunate, complacent, just be like, yeah, I have no problems financially
and I can afford whatever I want, but yeah, it's a hard, you couldn't, it's a hard life
still.
Like there are people. Yeah. If they say money can't buy happiness, it's like, maybe it can't
buy you happiness, but let me try and figure that out.
And I also do think like, uh, I think they're in good spirits now. I don't know if it's from talking with
The press, I don't know if they're putting on a little bit of,
a mask or if they're truly healed but or they're just you know i mean we were talking with us
you gotta or they're just talking with us but right you can't not revisit the regret you have
from getting voted out of survivor thinking there were ways you could have changed that and i think
that that's uh i think they're both especially when it's like like i wonder what's what actually
stings more is like emily who you know made a series of mistakes across the season that she
you know has to watch back and kind of i think even on the islands she alluded to had an
understanding that she was drawing dead at a certain point versus ozzy who was very much in
the mix to win was playing i think the best game he's ever played and then just makes a total
blunder right right in this episode yeah because there's one thing that you can change it was one
thing that
you can change
when you were should have been totally fine um yeah it depends also did he get the closure from
like oh we were going to go for you anyways that was just like whatever like if that was the case
then maybe you don't feel as bad but generally if you're watching that back i would have to say that
ozzy would probably have more regret about how it materialized versus emily who yeah she made
some blunders but she got through and on her exit she realized she was dead in the water not
necessarily because of the blunder she had made in the past leading up to that but uh she didn't make
any any blunders on that on her exit she did everything she could she knew the writing was
on the wall she uh made a plan she executed the plan it almost worked and it would have worked had
she uh had there not been an advantage at play and so i i do have to believe that ozzy should be
taking it harder than emily should be do we uh do we think ozzy was like the og or like the
the best integrity player on season 50 because i feel like we had the integrity alliance and
everything but he seemed like he was the most honest with everybody i think he's generally
pretty straightforward yeah i don't think he like if i was i've never played with ozzy i've
one of the few that has played four times now five times that i have not been on the same season as
yeah and and so i would work with ozzy in a heartbeat i feel like he's pretty straightforward
i don't think that lying is necessarily his game or misleading if he can avoid it and so i i feel
like yeah and i do think that i don't know i think when you have somebody that's like we're honorable
and we are we like what are you going to do about it i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't
know what are you doing just pumping each other's sales like i don't understand like just do it you
don't have to tell us that you're doing it and so yeah i yeah i agree with that yeah i think that's
it i didn't do any anything else on closing uh about emily or or ozzy i don't know i i enjoyed
ozzy's entire appearance on season 50 i really felt for like this last episode because i kind
with his dad i had it with my stepdad who passed away a few years ago um and it's almost like we
didn't even have a relationship just like with ozzy and his dad until you know the last moments
or whatever but so it was really nice to see him be so open about it and i think he did play an
oscar game he did he he became oscar and he did amazing so it was just nice to see it and sad to
see him go i didn't expect to feel so sad seeing so so many people go home this season but
i think i'm actually connecting with everyone on a different level than i ever have so i think that
puts season 50 like top seasons for me right now do you think that's because we already know the
players or because we're more heavily invested and doing exit press and all of that oh yeah maybe
probably but uh i don't know it could be because we already know them a little bit and we're seeing
them how they they've grown as people and how they're going to react to like the hardest
of hard players and survivor and everything but i just feel like something about the editing of
this season seems a bit more earnest and like they're trying to just be kinder to the players
instead of trying to catch them like being idiots they're actually just being like here's how they
really are here's how much fun they have here's them crying on the beach you know and it just
feels a little more earnest and more you know like that we connect with them a little bit better so
i'm enjoying that
i think now that you say it and pointed out about connecting more with this cast i think for me it's
because i know their survivor scars i know like their disappointments we know the trauma they've
been through in the past on tv on past seasons and so you already have that humanity to them
as a person versus them coming on and being like here's my scar
and you'd be like well they could be we haven't seen them play like that i don't know to what
degree but you know to what degree by watching them uh come up short in past seasons right it's
very compelling when you see when you get like that scene we had last night with ozzy
talking about his dad and you're like wow there's this is a whole new element to him
to a player that we thought we knew very very well you know through four seasons and now you're seeing
even another side um and that's part of why these returning seasons especially when you get a player
that they're spread out to over years you see that growth and that evolution and it's very cool
yeah i agree yeah i do disagree that the show would not continue with uh with the jeff not
there i think that the show is going to go on forever yeah it's it's going to be like jeopardy
they're going to find a new host um i you know it's a matter of when and when and when and when
not if i think that jeff will be i do i do agree that jeff will be around for a while
yeah i don't disagree with that but i do think that they'll look at the numbers
jeff will have some input somebody will come in as the new host and uh i think it's important
for that host whoever it may be to let the players at that point jeff has been a mainstay
of the show he's been a staple he's inserted himself as a personality of the institution
of survivor uh i think the new host needs to take a step back and let the players drive the game and
the conversation almost exclusively with the host just nudging when it needs to be nudged uh but i
do believe that yeah the show will continue forever and ever unless uh for some reason
something better comes on right if it gets like like what the bachelor's going through right now
or something yeah it's
it's um as much as we sometimes can get frustrated with some of jeff's sensibilities and whatnot
the show will lose something without him and that that just he's been there for 50 seasons 50
seasons like yeah it's just that he is survivor but also survivor will continue um yeah yeah uh
it's the price of his right trajectory who bob barker to oh yeah who's it now uh drew carrey
and then who's the host of uh wheel of fortune right now is it i don't remember i don't know
somebody else now too yeah yeah so okay it'll happen uh and uh yeah don't worry uh and jeff
might still make an appearance so i'm sure he'll still be an ep on the show for past his hosting
he's not leaving fiji yeah he's gonna be there we're gonna figure out what we're calling his
idol but jeff probst it'll be like rocket launcher idol or something just propels you to top
final three yeah no matter what you just go back to ponderosa and then come back to give your final
spiel at the end you can you can replace any vote out with a fire making challenge
yes whenever you want that's not a bad idea i kind of like it yeah there we go but it can't
be used on you but it can't be used on yourself or it does it's used on yourself you get voted
out and you can challenge someone to fire yeah that's actually an amazing advantage
look at this yeah i don't i love when people challenge other people anyway so the thought
that it would be like i challenge you everybody's working on fire the whole time to is not knowing
when it comes or it comes one time and then everybody's working on fire every other subsequent
season you gotta declare it like before the votes at least before they're red or something like that
so you can decide you know do i want to put myself in danger or i don't know we'll look at we'll keep
brainstorming we'll keep thinking about this
so you before the votes are read you say actually i have a fire making challenge so i'm going to
challenge i would like to replace this this tribal council with a fire making challenge but if you
lose you go home yeah oh my gosh okay just be like you challenge just one person or can you
also challenge would it be weird to challenge like an immunity person as well chooses yeah
like the tribe gets to put up the best person almost somebody has to that's good because then
they create another enemy when they're like we choose okay
there we go yeah and if they can't decide then you all draw rocks and somebody at random goes and does the fire making this is actually
This is a great idea, actually.
I was like, this is going to be a complete joke.
And now I'm actually sold on it.
No, there we go.
That's it.
I like it.
I think, yeah, you feel like you're in danger, but you're not sure.
So you play the fire making thing.
If you lose, you go home.
If you win, the person that you. They go home.
Yeah.
They go home.
But then do you get an idol or do you get something to protect yourself for further?
Or you're just the target the next time?
I'd be like, no, it's just you get one.
You get one more chance to survive.
Okay.
All right.
Well, you can't be too powerful.
Fine.
I agree.
That'll do it here.
The pod has spoken.
Thank you, Ashley.
Thank you, Riley.
Another amazing week.
And we will be back next week.
And we will be in LA for the finale.
Hopefully, red carpet, behind the scenes.
The studio's in Hollywood at the Ringer.
So we'll all three be in person, mixing and mingling.
Let's see if our energy is better in person or on camera or it doesn't matter remotely.
Some people say in person, the podcast just have a little extra je ne sais quoi.
We will see.
But I think we do pretty well remotely as well.
So I'm not expecting any more.
Hard eyes than we already have for each other.
I think we're already doing pretty well in sync.
I'll bring champagne.
Yes.
Okay.
May as well.
All right.
Thank you all.
Until next week.
See ya.
Abercrombie is and always has been the destination for Hollywood.
And we'll see you next time.
