Speaker 4Welcome back to Giddy Up! One of our favourites joins us now. It's been a little while since we've had a chat to Johnny O'Shea, but he's with us now here on Giddy Up! for Giddy Up! Stable Mail. G'day, John.
Speaker 5Hey, Gareth. How are you, buddy?
Speaker 4I am well, mate. Flemington, you've got a couple of fillies going down the straight. Scintillation, first of all, for Nige and Anthony Mithen. Nigel Austin, of course. Can she win?
Speaker 5Yeah, for sure. Yeah? She's very consistent. As a filly, as you go through a form, she doesn't know how to run a bad race. And she's just come across a pretty brilliant filly in the Quisette. And she acquitted herself really well there. So, and that filly subsequently went on and runs her very well in the Moyer. So, you know, she's got great form lines. And she's been down the straight once and ran well down it. So, yeah, we think, I thought she was actually a touch over, to be fair, when I saw the quote. Yeah.
Speaker 4So, Tana Glow, she's got a bit... She's got a big motor. Like, she was unlucky in a Percy Sykes. She won her first two races. Like, how good is she, John?
Speaker 5She's untapped because she's one of those laponic fillies that only does what she has to. And every time we've taken her to the races, she's probably surprised us a bit. But I think we would have loved to have started her last week, to be fair, in Sydney.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 5But she just had a little setback in the lead-up to that race, and we decided not to run her. But we'll get her started down. We'll run her straight, and then she'll probably progress on to a 1,400 at Caulfield and see if she can't stretch out, you know, a little bit. So, we're very pleased with her. You know, she'll be ridden conservatively early and to finish, and hopefully she gives a good account of herself.
Speaker 4Is there a chance they might be too nippy for her over the 1,100 metres?
Speaker 5No, I'd say not first up. You know, like, I think she's had a great foundation, and, you know, she's got the penalty as well. So, but, you know... We're very happy with both fillies, and I like where they drew, and, you know, I think she sort of lends herself for them to both to give a good account of themselves.
Speaker 4And the straight, any concern with her?
Speaker 5Well, she's been down the straight once and put a lot of space on them.
Speaker 4Yeah, she did, actually. I apologise. Yeah. So, it won't be anything. No, no.
Speaker 5There shouldn't be no dramas there.
Speaker 4There shouldn't be no dramas. Yeah. She did bolt home, didn't she, there at Flemington? Then we go up to Rose Hill. Ken Mair-Bay, your thoughts there over the 2,400 metres?
Speaker 5Well, he thought it wouldn't be bad. We bought him as a yearling. We sort of bought him as a horse to get to a mile and a half, so it's his first time. He's just taken a bit of time, seasoning-wise. But I don't think we've got a horse going better in our yard than this horse. Wow. He's really been working well, and he's racing well, reeling off really good sections, and he, you know, he came up against possibly the best young stayer in Sydney the other day. So, today, I would have loved him to have drawn just a touch in, just to put him to sleep the first bit, particularly at Rose Hill. But, anyway. Yeah, I think he can run very, very well. Yeah, I think we're sort of, if he settles and executes the first part of the race well, he's got a lovely turn of speed, which most stayers don't have. And, you know, as a result, I think if he can, you know, run well here, he's got a nice future at a mile and a half.
Speaker 4Can Jamboree surprise there in race number five over the 1,500?
Speaker 5No. No. He's a horse that's very one-dimensional. He loves a mile at Randwick with a bit of juice in the ground where he controls. You know, he's going to get anything but that. But he needs to get started, and he's on, you know, to get back to the big dance later in the season, or the little dance, which he runs in. And as long as we have him right on that day where he's been most effective previously, then we'll be happy with that.
Speaker 4And get a fix first up. He's a big price in the last.
Speaker 5I think that's all commensurate to where he drew, you know. And he's got the car park, so he'll be last in the six at Rose Hill, which is, you know, that's for the game. Everyone wants to want to back him at that. But as long as he gives a good account of himself, and then, you know, we can progress through the spring and try and place him to advantage, and then we might even see him back in Melbourne later on in the season.
Speaker 4Just need to put a TV in his barn and get him to watch one of his part owners and Tommy Papley play like he did last week. It might inspire him.
Speaker 5I'd like a bit of whatever he was on anyway, Gary.
Speaker 6Imagine getting a fix, winning and celebrating like Tommy Nash won't be able to pull him up. You wouldn't be able to pull him up anyway, little Tommy Papley.
Speaker 5Well, he's the only bloke I've seen run faster after he kicks a goal than before he kicks a goal. Are you a Swans supporter? Oh, no, mate. I wouldn't know the first end of it. But I just, I do enjoy, Tommy Papley's the kind of guy that you would have loved to have played with. Yeah, 100%. He chips all in and plays with his heart. So, you know, he's a very inspiring little fella.
Speaker 4He might want to, like, he does some work with us. On SEN, he does the Sydney set with Mickey Gannon on a Thursday night. Yeah. And he's a very good judge as well. But I reckon he'd be great at the Staples. You might have to get him down there. And he'll wear a Queensland jumper. I don't think he'd wear a New South Wales jumper. So, you'll pass that test. Well, he gets a start anyway. Any winners today at Hawkesbury?
Speaker 5We've got two really nice young horses. You know, we've got a beautiful filly called Seminole who can win, but probably just lacks a little bit of ring craft. And, you know, she'll run very well and has a very bright future. And, you know, obviously our best chance at Hawkesbury is Concrete Storm, who was very good winning last start and looks to map well, which is very important at Hawkesbury and looks to have trained on well. So, I think if, you know, both will give a good, but obviously one in the last looks hard to beat at about evens, or 65 to 40.
Speaker 4So, that's race eight, number 12, Concrete Storm. You've got some great chances at Goulburn and inquiring minds and sooner go around in the timeline. I'm on it. Um, Tongari Cup, which is of course a, a race there that is the big dance qualifier. Um, your thoughts there.
Speaker 5Well, I think we'll leave Zuna, we'll leave inquiring minds at home because he's owned by interests that come out of Bathurst. And I think they'd like to try and win their home cup on Sunday. So, um, and both races are big dance qualifiers. So, you know, I think that's why they're, well, that's why they're there. Um, and. And Zuna has been knocking on the door all season and I think he gets his chance on Friday. We've got a very nice maiden horse in on there, up there as well as his traveling companion. He's not up there because he's limited. He's up there because he's a traveling companion and the races were 50,000 horse called sea level. And I think if your own, if your listeners were to have something on him, I think you'll get a hell of a cheer.
Speaker 4That's, um, that's a great push race three, number one. And we know you're not mucking around when you, when you booked the J Mac of the Bush and Aaron Bullock. So, uh, hence the booking.
