Spittin' Chiclets Episode 682: Featuring Jack McBain & Marty Walsh

The transcript blends two distinct content streams: a promotional segment for the party game "What’s Going On" and a detailed hockey analysis podcast. The game is presented as a fun, social deduction experience where players take on secret roles, making it ideal for gatherings that value deception and interaction. Meanwhile, the podcast dives into the performance of the Chicago Blackhawks, criticizing their lack of physicality, poor defensive execution, and team-wide disengagement, despite having a few standout players. The hosts highlight key issues such as ineffective zone coverage, lack of intensity, and a defensive culture that fails to meet expectations in national games. They contrast this with some positive moments, like Dylan Boot’s strong debut, and propose solutions such as bringing in veteran players to instill more competitiveness. The discussion also touches on other teams, including the San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets, noting issues of team pride, player disengagement, and coaching decisions. A promotional segment introduces Stelle Blue coffee, emphasizing its high-quality ingredients and animal rescue mission. Finally, the podcast ends with a positive pitch for Pink Whitney, a lifestyle brand associated with fun, energy, and shared experiences, offering a special deal to listeners. The overall tone is critical yet hopeful, advocating for greater effort and accountability in team sports and promoting engaging, community-oriented products.

everyone know and you know what it reminded me of how big your job at tnt is because like we could say a million different things on this pod and like sometimes things catch you know fire on the internet but like one take like that on national broadcast game and all of a sudden it's just and the fans loved it i felt i felt bad because after the game they're asking a blah blah show about it and a little shield i gave him a little french accent as you're trying to say you weren't really talking about him you called him blushill but go ahead i got like he hasn't slept i got like 90 minutes of sleep last night into like a jet blue flight they had me fucking lugging my luggage around the airport to like go drop it off to this bed oh yeah jet blue's bad news the new age spirit is it really yeah it's horrible well they bought spirit there you go okay there you go um if i could spell hypoglycemic should i own part of the blackhawks oh yeah they'll give it to i think you already do i know i think there's people like high up there that were like preach biz yeah pre hypoglycemic h y p o g l i i gotta be honest i don't even know what hypoglycemic means going uh s e m i c it's a y instead of an i so you'll give me credit i'll give you what is that very close what is that i don't know it's when you have low blood sugar who said it first i did wow yeah it's a big word but like once i learn a big one i kind of reuse it it's kind of like you you'll work up gal where i said i've beat the do you think you beat the wheels do you think they galvanize the blackhawks i hope they go on a bit of a run i hope they go on a bit of a run so i don't think they will let's start with playing adirondack tomorrow i actually respect how like calm demeanor he is and he's probably dealing with like having to develop these guys along the fly to like be a somewhat decent hockey team out there um i would probably obviously put more blame on davidson at this point like we can kind of go through the past moves to how they've gotten to this point and how they've kind of given up on on nhlers and i get how like they're trying to tank to get the position to their they're in and to get certain guys but obviously seth jones you could look at that one how happy was seth jones oh last like he must be like oh my god yeah well yeah he's playing incredible and this this was i saw a chief barstool chief who did a video last night yeah and he's like we're no better than five years ago and then later he tweeted how happy is seth jones and i just started laughing like he was a part of this now stanley cup champ one of the leading scoring defensemen in the league dominating he's going to be up for the north and he's watching the hawks like he could still be there in an alternate reality was was davidson around when they moved uh schmaltz for i believe they traded schmaltz for um uh what's the kid in washington now um he was third overall strom stromer um was he there for that i don't know let me check that uh that was my guy stan bowman okay um but we're first in the west everything fine everything but yeah that was that was that wasn't davidson so can't put it all on him no no no no no but like so just like from watching that game last night like obviously the first period was the first you're going against a a bona a bona fide stanley cup uh contender right they're missing barkov and let's get out to a hot start did you see that first goal i saw it all so did you now do you think that that is a buddy pass from uh uh nazar to tara vinan as to why he kind of like bailed out of that in the neutral zone no no that was not the buddy that's on tara vinan where he should have accepted that pass yeah that's not a but that's he didn't give it to him from directly behind a buddy pass is like when you got a turner that was more they were more east to west than most one or he felt the footsteps though i think or he just made a physical mistake which sometimes coaches can't get mad it's just a mistake it's not like when you compound them it's what he did after the fact like you turn it over at center ice you got to grab a body or get on the d side of the puck yeah like throw it throw a hit to the guy who who delivers the pass after the turnover and then he just lets him blow by him and then all of a sudden like ian cole is trying to read the situation he's outside the dot tara vinan who kind of made the soft plays outside the dot um nays are just no backtracking whatsoever odd man rush so i'm like all right that's obviously a horrendous start like a and you also went in being like i want to see these guys like i'm really watching them up close like you were going in with some preconceived notions and then and then immediately you see one like that and they're on the no watch list so it's the first yeah not to mention too i just quick memory of playing at bu with jack parker yeah and you know the old turnover and the big loop and then you're like oh my god i'm gonna be like oh my god i'm gonna be like oh and we had he'd be like look at this circle jerk circle jerk and then one time we had two guys they were like uh what are the skaters called that skate they were synchronized skaters doing double circle jerk he's like look at this double circle jerk on the video session after that back in the day you had to stop and start now you can do you can get away with a circle jerk tight turn though right try getting back you got to give like four or five hard ash drive double circle jerk do you think that the like so when he did the circle jerk comment are you in front of the room with all the guys in there basically your dark room he's at the front with the with the clicker everyone's behind him correct so it's a but it's a public humiliation oh yeah oh yeah okay you need a public humiliation within the team do you think that's going on in the blackhawks locker room uh my assumption assumption of that team and we'll get into san jose's little meeting they had uh there has to have been a moment when they were like oh my god i'm gonna be like oh my god i'm gonna be like oh that has probably happened by now right now i i don't know if it's something that like it's bones before bones got told but bones was told by waddell you gotta stop carving these guys this is we're now over to columbus three weeks ago the abs this week that was great but i think waddell was like hey bones you can't keep carving them in the in the media meds just part just just carve them in the locker room and that's what yance had been saying like can you please stop burying these guys in the media they have a family they have a family they have a family they have a family they have a So I assume that I'm turning full bones. How did I just get to both? bones because there's a lot of teams that are going through these yeah but you're you're an actual like analyst you're supposed to do that the coach i think maybe once in a while to the media but ideally it's in the room so i think chicago in the room blastro's probably snapped at least once so okay so then so that happens right and then i'm like all right let's keep watching here no more than two minutes later here under two minutes here come the florida panthers on a five on two off of a off of a basic like break-in now micola made a good play stick on puck yeah the guy had so much time and space to like make a proper dump or make a play micola closed quick he he he stick on pucks it all the way down the wall and then markstrom gets the puck so you have like and like i'm not trying to throw guys under the bus but i gotta name them because i gotta describe the play bertuzzi's coming on the weak side when if you're coming in a 2-1-2-4 check assuming that that's what it was right it was a 2-1-2 that was the only question i had for you is that it happened so quick is that like are you setting up your 2-1-2 off of a kind of a sweeping poke check that gets behind the net yeah good point you know what i mean like i know what you said but it was like a quick kind of turnover but it was more that when he went behind that you were dead right it's like you gotta you can't go behind that it never even got to you it wasn't even gonna get to you yeah well yeah because marky went on the strong side and then he's on his he pumps it back up the wall but it's like okay now you one you can't let your defenseman beat you up ice all all three forwards get beat up ice it's a five on two going back you don't see a lot of five on two not a lot i was off the rush like both d-man beat both yeah f1 and f2 blue line in was a five on two the two d-men could have continued up and like stopped in front of the net but they were like all right let's be safe drill it was like one of those drills bad they're like ah that's just torn jones is like god it's my friends it's the hawks so just kind of after that i'm like all right man if you're not ready to play a game and get up for games when you're what what do they want four games out of 16 so far they're on national television you're playing against you know a cup contender like that should be the game where you're like let's have more they haven't won a game on the road so it's like let's get our first road win here i think five of their games this year maybe six they've scored a goal or less like they've scored one goal or been shut out uh they're they're the lowest scoring team in the columbus columbus has played three fewer games than they have yeah no it's it's gross um i was more amazed by the thing liam said at the end of your rant i think it was right as they went to commercial where he's talking about all the years they've missed playoffs in a row now and not including i think the covid year they snuck in that fake playoff year and he said in the average amount of points they've missed the playoffs by 25 points wow so not even so not even i was i was shocked but i was i was like what because if you miss the playoffs by like 12 points you're like we weren't even sniffing it yeah 25 on an average of that over the last well they aside from that covid year has it basically been a 10-year run where they miss playoffs if you don't count that year yeah pretty much and that was they got swept by nashville the last time they were in the real playoffs not covid remember that when nashville went to the finals uh it might have been it might have been 2017 or whatever 2016 yeah almost 2017 so aside from all that and like like no but other than that this is lincoln no so then from watching prior games uh while being at home every time i turn them on i'm like buddy they never like dump it in get it stopped and like start an ozone shift where they're cycling and like wearing a team down then i think there was about eight minutes left maybe if maybe it would have been like six minutes left in the second period i'm like when's the last time like one of their d-men let alone one of their guys hit somebody at that point in the game brady kachuk had six hits and the whole roster for the chicago blackhawks had six hits so for me it's more about the like the lack of competitiveness like what do you like at what point do you get angry and and as a as one of their d-men who's six three six four 225 220 like they got some big d back there oh yeah they're not they're not fucking laying they're not laying the lumber they're not making it hard to get to the to the to the blue paint on them they're not throwing hits closing off plays so i don't know man i don't know i don't know like what's going on there i i i don't want to blame blash i i it was more about just me being like this is fucking pathetic this is like how many more how many years of a rebuild and i'm not even seeing a team remotely compete out there well you went um pathetic soft mickey mouse brutal ahl level and horrible so what had you similar to like brady all the chance like he crayons i was like what's he got next ahl level what's he got next mickey mouse i was like this is awesome this is content what do you what do you guys think it is my thing is it looks like there's 12 forwards that think they're first liners 60 that think they're first pairing d but in this lead especially on that team if you're not a first liner already you're not going to be a first liner on any team so you got to go out there play with some heart play hard fight for your job know that there's 31 other teams watching you because at the end of the day you're not going to be a first liner okay well let's at least stand on the positive side shout out dylan boot was it boucher yeah yeah his first nhl game i think he asked everybody including the pop to my vendors yeah i'd ask you to fight the game knocked on the door four years in the quebec league one year in the mhl i don't know what that is four years at dalhousie yeah dalhousie university three years in the wichita thunder coast rockford ice hogs and makes his nhl debut so pretty cool and like you said asked everything did he ask boco oh yeah he asked him in the first period right away yeah uh okay so they were they were skating to as hathaway no before that he asked everyone his first shift they panned the camera and he was talking with boco and i think boco was like it looked like he said like i want to get a few shifts in first and or my coach said no because he didn't want to give momentum i think they saw the clip from jack guy going uh a bauer the other night when it was four nothing what's that game oh my god we're not giving up this momentum from the start so it looked like off the face off the d zone draw later on he got in hathaway's face if they're calling up a guy that played at dalhousie university a couple years ago it's it's they're clearly sending a message that they're not playing hard enough i would say uh bedard is is getting targeted way too much if i think uh liam was competing out there he's he had a hit he eliminated a guy on the board and then got an assist so no issue with bedard frondell's looked pretty good too frondell's look solid like even like nazar like compete wise like after that like turnover in the middle and stuff like that he's sick goal looked like he oh they started coming to him maybe hey like start on time type stuff it wasn't even those guys that i had the issue with it was basically the the rest of the supporting cast and i was very disappointed in the d man to man i don't know i don't know what's going on there i think they're softer than puppy shit i think at a certain point you got to kind of that switch has to go off and say how much more am i going to put up with but what were we just quickly talking about here the boucher boco um uh the the chicago blackhawk columbus there no no no i i was probably i was probably just ranting but yeah no sleep i just asked chief i'm said what was the biggest mistake of the kyle davidson era and he said just such an emphasis on drafting and he sent me this in 2024 kyle drafted kyle davidson drafted sasha bouvert and merrick vanichek vaneker in the first round and who have combined zero points in 10 ahl games trevor conley and matt vagrant both went immediately after those players those players have combined 21 points in the nhl just this year now that's early yeah that's early but conley's gonna be sick and that gridden looks pretty good i mean michael hayes was drafted right after that too like they've they've missed on so many draft picks yeah yeah over and over the other thing i was going to bring up that i drew a blank on was i don't think we've talked on the pod so far was the clip um in the second intermission that i showed of when sam reinhardt's on the ice and it's just a simple wall play when was it rinzel yeah rinzel just goes to pinch down the wall he barely grazes him like it's like it's like he's playing flag football out there and he just he had perfect position and he just breezes by reinhardt right on the offensive side of him and then reinhardt just kind of busts his ass and beats him down the ice for a three on two it didn't go to sam reinhardt the winger off the rush ended up shooting it for a quality scoring chance i would say but you're letting you're letting a guy who's been fourth in goals over the last three seasons just blow by you and basically could have had a free slot chance from from having it once again it on the goalie stick in the offensive zone you go from marks from making a play along the wall to all of a sudden it's a scoring chance at the defensive zone off of just brutal blown coverage so it's like what is what is happening here why are they having all these brain freezes and at what point are you not as a fan like what am i watching like you just all you want to do as a fan is be proud of your team like right now if i was a calgary flames fan i'd be like wow like yeah i want a higher draft pick but fuck man i'm really proud of the way these guys are going out there they're competing they're fucking easy to root for you know what even van you know you know what i was thinking too is is describing blackhawks decor you know what they could use they could use a white cloud you know what they could use they could use a middleton listen yeah they might fucking make the the a grave mistake from time to time but it's never for a lack of effort it's never for a lack of physicality and it's never for a lack of not being engaged in like and fucking showing up to play and playing the right way and it just i don't know it's not a developmental league and they're like treating it as such but it's like okay you can put up with that for like one or two years like that rinzel guy's in his like sixth year no no no no no no no he's not okay well then it wasn't it wasn't rinzel i didn't check with you within like two years ago sorry it wasn't it wasn't rinzel it was vlasic who made the play on the wall excuse me number 72 i think he's played this is a sixth season right yeah he was 25 i still like him a lot but i i know that clip you're talking about that's fair but like he's 25 he's 25 years old like he's got to be a difference maker and he's a tank and he's that big he can skate well reinhardt looked like surprised that he was just able to like sneak by him but if he's there he's so big and can skate he can just put a hand on the guy and just keep him in front of him you don't you can't just let him squeeze by and then like you said go down and be able to join the rush yeah i know decade of darkness like clearly i was in one and i never got to see the the cool part of coming out of it in edmonton they have bedard no doubt but at the end of edmonton's it was like nuge was still there like eberly hall till the trade and you know then leon comes and there's nothing else besides and now granted fondell might be awesome but it's too early to say but i don't know right now if he's going to end up being leon dry saddle in fairness nobody thought leon was going to be this good so let's keep that one possibility but it's not it's there's not many fans of chicago being like i see the light at the end of the tunnel this is this is exactly what it was five years ago and i don't know if it's going to be the end of the tunnel five years ago and as you said we don't even see any energy we don't even like at least give us something to be proud of yeah so they had nick felino there like he's a guy who's going to play hard and keep guys honest like instead of like you said not a developmental league bring some vets in bring some older guys in to help these guys yeah you're still going to lose some games but you're losing games now with these young guys who aren't scoring and aren't hitting aren't forechecking so bring in some older guys i think and jvr riley smith vladimir teresanko all these guys don't have jobs right now hey you know what's funny are you saying that is uh is i looked at our our decor when i first got to arizona and you had guys like adrian a coin um you know klesla derrick morris of course like mo man like if you fucking touch the goalie or you fucking try to get to the inside like he'd fucking battle his cock off sometimes he was fighting guys above his weight class i think he ended up fighting you one time he jumped me yeah yeah he jumped me just been on a bachelor it was on a bachelor that we were friends there you go i didn't think i did anything you know well we won in overtime i was on the ice he said you yelled in his face after you guys won an over yeah there's no chance i did that i think that was the michael jordan effect like and that's what he fucked up like do you think one guy on the blackhawks decor is fucking beating up a guy he went on the the a bachelor party with because he yelled in his face after an overtime win no so i just think more of that who were the other guys that were there uh rose rusty was ken clee there when your first no he wasn't there but these fucking wily veteran defensemen who like they weren't jovo jovo you know another guy who just came to mind is uh matt green like him playing for the la kings he was not flashy at all man but good luck trying to get to the inside on him he would oh yeah it'll take your head off take your head off we might have been last guy with a wooden stick in the nhl just so much respect like scuderi like nothing flashy about scuds but he was a good guy he was a good guy he was a good guy he was a good guy but fuck man he would compete so i don't know a little bit more of that and i'm sorry if i caused the blast some uh like a disruption there and i don't think he should be asking or answering questions post game about me ripping the effort i was surprised that he would be like who asked that i don't know i don't i think that's like make your own assessment from what you're seeing if you're a beat reporter for the blackhawks if you're not liking what you've been seeing over the last five years or maybe you have liked what you've seen like ask him maybe something that you're noticing at the game and what you're not happy with or like it's just like we're hiding behind your comments kind of you know what i mean yeah like make your own assessment mine was like fuck man i'm like this is a national uh nationally televised game and you guys have been dog shit for however long like show me some compete show me you're ready from puck drop where like yeah it might be a fucking two one game and and they might beat you but you're staying on the defensive side of the puck and you're competing your dick off whereas like that's just way too easy for a team that's way better than you and going back to the guy who was his first at hl game shout out to him for trying to make a difference and and take some focus off of the bedards getting ran and and the few guys that are putting in the effort so that's that's pretty much all i got to say about it all right okay and before we get to another team that at least chicago i don't think much was expected san jose there were some big time expectations and this is ugly right now but let's go positivity first because the jets have been in just the middle of a disaster right oh seven and two oh seven and two in their last nine before then they you know the hellebuck trade they go into montreal and they're getting worked now i will it was four nothing but they i shouldn't say they were getting worked winnipeg was actually playing pretty good like by the end of the game they outshot them over two to one margin i think winnipeg had 47 shots but the jets are down four rip with two minutes and 37 seconds left and come and win the game i believe teams who were up four nothing with three minutes or less to go in the history of the nhl i think teams that were trailing i should say were oh nine thousand four hundred and oh that many like actually legitimate thousand so we saw what is considered maybe the greatest comeback in the regular season history of the nhl and for a team that needed it i know which is cool because like you you you know you're thinking arneal man this could this could end up you know you could end up losing your job i was like this is a disaster but that win right there shows like there's no quitting there they haven't shut it down if anyone had a reason to be like we're done we have lost nine straight we're down four nothing and the jets come back i've never seen two goals look so similar to kyle connors where i watched the second one i was like oh no the clip showed me the first one and then i'm like wait it was crazy the only difference is the second one hit thompson's stick right but yeah but shout out to bauer he got them going gordie how hat trick back to chicago now that we need to this bauer guy he's a defenseman no yeah playing forward he's going out there he's trying to fight he's getting in there he's getting in the mix getting his team going it's late in the game the game's fucking basically over he fought jack i fought fights jack i probably not the best time i remember you always asking tip is it all right is it all right probably not the best time for jack i but and then boom he gets out of the box he scores a goal to get them going it's little things like that that help your team help your help your organization to just be a better organization now saying saying like this could get the jets going it i it truly could like something like that that's never happened before you're like all right boys like we got on the we got a w we did it in this insane like miracle fashion let's go knowing us like bringing it up and talking about they get wax next game but but let's see because like that is when everything looked down and out and they were dead the fact they won that game and montreal i'm sure st louis after said i've never i don't even know what happened i've never seen anything like that fucking angry would you be as a head coach if you blew a four goal lead like that i would i would actually say that based on what we've seen st louis say and do as a coach with like how he approaches like the mental side of the game and how well they're playing with without demidov and without suzuki i think you actually in this circumstance just be like i don't know what just happened boys but like we're gonna pretend that that didn't even like don't even watch video yeah but yeah in fairness like if imagine if that happened to bones a couple weeks ago he would have like killed a reporter i think terrian would have put a cigarette on your forehead terrian would have lost he would have put it right in your bum chin i mean terrian in the in the in the lockout year when we lost to the phantoms in game six they ended up winning the calder cup that awesome ahl season we were i think merles would have lost to the phantoms with no best i think we're up five one oh in the third oh against the phantoms and they came back and like beat us seven five i'm i know it was richardson carter yes and and so you know season's over oh and terrian still was doing like post-game meetings that that's um it was like the laser pointer you guys are fucking done it was like the 12th game of the year and the season was over so yeah if we'd blown a four nothing lead with two minutes and 39 seconds left but crazy to see that all and of course you know fowler has this other shutout he's lined up for all of a sudden he loses uh they they lose an ot but you read his um his uh comments the day after they interviewed him the day after in the scrum with a black eye unbelievable yeah marty beat him up yeah no but just like taking ownership taking him saying i need to make that next save i'm i need to make the last save put zero blame on everybody else saying that you know some games you know you're It's like the Grand Fuhrer thing, so that was a very Well, it was a mature answer for him because a goaltender could be like, listen, we're up four. We got one went in off a guy's stick. What's he doing there? So I thought that was great out of follow-up. That's awesome. Yeah, Jack, I think you just let them sleep at that point. I know. Now, me even questioning you here is like, you did that. So we were going to try to bring it up last night on the broadcast, but sometimes we get logjams. I'm so tempted about the White House visit with Revo Smitty. Oh, they bring up the polls. Bring up the polls. Revo looked unreal on there, too. He's like, yeah, I went to the White House. I'm like, oh, fuck. Revo can't go back to San Diego. Here we are in the octagon at the White House. Big, big, big smile at Smitty celebrating the White House after the elections. Oh, shit. They were like, next question. I was like, this boy is some northern. Northern California lips flipping the fuck out right now. Now let's move on to illegal gambling on our team charter. At the IRS. Yeah, you guys claiming those. Wait, I was like, oh, no. Darnell nurses the bank. As they get waxed by the Kings. Oh, fuck. Go ahead, though. Go ahead. Jack, I. Oh, but because we were talking about how, like, no matter what, in those. In those situations, like, you should not be fighting to give away the momentum. The only way sometimes, and smartly, like, am I saying it right? Boucher, the guy for Chicago. Remember when Rose Hill, we were up 3-1 on Philadelphia? Yeah. He asked me, and then obviously tips like, yo, nothing, nothing. And I'm like, no, no, there's nothing. There's no reason to go. So he goes, okay. So what does he do? He takes a run at donor. Yeah. So then you have to. So if you're Boucher. Hey, it's almost. So you got to take a run at, like, the head of the snake or, you know, maybe like. Yeah, but the head of their snake is like Brady. They got 10 guys. Yeah. They got 10 snakes. Yeah. So that's the only time where then, like, you can finally do it. But it felt like for Jack guy, it's like, hey, if he gets on a four check and gets a bump on one of your guys, like, who gives a fuck? Like, let him sleep. Yeah. Let's get him next game. You almost wonder how much the whole, like, heavyweight rankings in these up and comers play into those. Like, mental decisions in the moment. Like, there's nothing worse than having to turn down a fight from another heavyweight in your own building. Like, the insecurity you feel. But in that moment, you got to, like, suck it up. And you got to be. You got to put the ego aside. You used to do a really good job. Like, tip. No. Right. You said no. You used to make it clear. So everybody knows. I'm waving my stick. Like, I got the fucking things to land the plane. Like, so everybody, I'm on the jumbotron. And he takes the mic off the guy who's mic'd up shirt. He's like, can I? Can I go? Yelling. The arena MC, I grab his fucking mic out of the concourse. And I'm like, sing on. Hey, everybody. I want to go. But tip said no. I used to say that all the time. Someone asked. Ah, coach said no. It's a great excuse. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And then, like, you're down 4-1. Meanwhile, the coach is like, you better fight him, Wade. You better go him. Oh, my God. But let's see. Let's see what the Jets do. I mean, and by the way, I do want to reach out. Or say quickly, because I mentioned last show, Jets fans, reach out to me and tell me what your issue is, right? And overall, I had 11 different people reach out. I went through it. Yeah. It was, I'd say, like, majority kind of shoveled day off in terms of when they were very good. Three different people mentioned that they were so disappointed that, like, nobody, they didn't really get much at the deadline on those years that they were good. And I didn't go back and look. But then the other guys were saying, like, some of the draft picks they've had in terms of you go through their last 10 years or so, or maybe a little less. So shovel day off was getting most of the heat from the fans. But how tough of a job is it for shovel day? I know. That's impossible. And every single guy. I saw a few messages of that. What? I saw a few messages of that basically finally self-admittedly being like, guys, like, look at the market we're in. Like, we have a rink downtown that's attached to a mall. And, like, we've got to walk underground. We've got to get to it in the wintertime. Like, it's not, it's just not a desirable landing spot for free agents. So you, if you don't draft and develop, you're not getting anybody. Yeah. Like, how do they get Pionk via trade for Truba, right, from New York? Which actually ended up being an awesome trade. Great trade. Yeah. Great trade. So you have to basically steal guys off other teams. Was Morrissey a draft pick of them? Yes. I would imagine Shifley was. Yep. Connor was. Yep. Yep. Did they pick up Adam Lowry from somewhere, or was he a draft pick of them? I believe he was. I believe he was drafted. And Viggo Bjork, my guy, I know, I know, but my guy. Did he have any points? I actually am looking right now. I don't think he did. They drafted Adam Lowry. I don't think they did. I don't. So all of their guys that are staples there had to be drafted and developed and brought up through there. You also touched on it a bit. That felt like a type of game and comeback where they're like, we have too much team pride that if we get embarrassed here, there's a chance our coach gets fired. Like, if that would have been, they would have been. Oh, seven or oh, eight and two in their last 10 games. And at what point, like, who do they got the next few? If they don't get that win, they got 10 losses in a row, like a few more. Like, it's one of those things where it's like, ah, like now I'm so invested in what call me. He's like, oh, yeah, yeah. Calm. He's not a big Arneal guy. Does he have one coach that he likes? Yeah. We talked about this last episode. Oh, Daryl. Daryl. But in terms of my investment now into Viggo Bjork. So he had no points. He was minus one, played 10 minutes. Like, stop it, guys. Like, I'm sorry. Get him somewhere. Get him somewhere where he's not playing 10 minutes. No, go full Meech God that he needs to play more. He's not playing enough. If you're not going to play him 20 minutes or, you know, 18 minutes, I know it is no points. The kid is crazy skilled. I'm going to go on this Bjork rant, then get him to the minors and play him 24 minutes. Are you Tony? That's card goal. Yeah, I'm sending myself cannolis. No, I'm not Tony. That's card goal. He might be. One way to deflect it. I think we got him. I think we got him. Not Tony. I would never be a Tony. Tony got a little sensitive in my DMs because I went at them two pods ago about. He's like, no, I didn't. Because I got a little. I think that when you're, when you're spouting the stuff you are on line up in the negativity and then you go as far to like, kind of like taunt the coach by sending him cannolis as well as the team president, I believe it was. That's a little offside. No. Sending you guys is offside. I know, but we could take it. But then to go as far as the guy that you're like, oh, he needs to get fired. And then my, and then he's like, Hey, I'm just be, I'm, you know, Tony's all about love and sending love. And, and it's like, I am. That is, that is antagonizing a coach who you're chirping online by sending cannolis to his address. If I was. Talk and or the president, I would have a fucking, I would have the, the, the league officials get involved too. That's weird as fuck. Yeah. Tony S cargo is completely out of line and he's sensitive and doesn't think he was. Okay. He thinks he's spreading love. Okay. Um, another group that, that is, is that you want to comment on that? Uh, I, I agree. I don't think you should be sending anything to like people. I mean, obviously sending cards to be signed is cool, but like edible food that you don't know necessarily like that cannoli. Did you do my daddy? Mine, but it is from the best cannoli place. So that's why I gave Tony a little credit and we can take it. And it was my gift to my dad for his birthday. I showed up big Dan current 69 years old on Halloween and you got him a cannoli and I said, my name was Tony. So you got me, you got me. Um, in terms of sensitivity, the sharks guys, this is, this is crazy. And my thing is that, and this is a, uh, uh, really a big talking point from their fan base right now. The losses are one thing. And I want to say this first, like Keith and I both are, are friends with the Wasowski family. Ryan Wasowski is an awesome guy. He's grinded his way to become an NHL coach, a world championship gold medal. Very happy for him. So obviously there's some bias for me, but my thing for like him and the team and what the fans are saying is they're boring to watch. It's not even like they're just losing like exciting games. They're not even, it's not even exciting hockey. Like last year you saw these, these. These steps and the growth in the team and like the offensive firepower. And now it's like, I don't know what's going on. And when you have, I actually saw this, I think it was the Kelsey brothers pod had, we're interviewing somebody. It was on, it just popped up on my feed and they were talking about players only meetings. And I guess in the NFL, they asked that NFL player, like, what do you think of when you think of players only me? And the guy's like, yeah, you're done. Like now hockey is different. It's 84 games. It's already that point in the year where you're basically not making playoffs. Like the guy basically said, like. Like, you know, NFL 60 or 17 games, whatever. Like you're having players only meetings. Like you're, you're in one. Yeah. Hockey's hockey's different, but still that they had one last night. And the funny part was that, that this, this tweet, I got to find this. This is where it's like, oh man, things are going bad. So, um, Max Miller, real Max Miller tweeted. This is the day before the Kings game. This might be the liveliest sharks practice I've seen in a while. Lots of hooping and hollering. Whenever someone. one scores. And then it's Shang Pang after the game. We're being careful. kept a while outside of the room, and all doors are closed, which is unusual, and unusual in L.A. when they're here because there was a players-only meeting. So they had this great practice the day before. They get whack 7-2, Kempe hat-trick, by-field two goals. By-field looked great. And some ugly defensive hockey in that game by San Jose. I don't know what's going on. I don't understand it. It doesn't really make much sense to the point where I believe Ryan Wasowski said to the media, gee, I don't think guys are bought in. He said, I don't think guys are buying in. And then Celebrini was very quick in his press conference the next day to say, I think guys are buying in. They asked him, and the first thing he said was, I think guys are buying in. So the captain, young superstars, given the quote by the coach, and immediately he's like, I don't agree with that. That's kind of an issue, right? That is not, I don't remember, and maybe, correct me if I'm wrong, send it over at one point, have other stars, has McDavid or Crosby ever kind of gone against what the coach said in the media? Probably, I guess. I can't think of any. Not that much, yeah. It's not that common. So you're off to this brutal start, or brutal last, say, 10 games, and now you're like, I don't know, I just don't understand what's going on. Did you see anything last night to you that shows what's happening? So I kind of got my team bashing out of the way. I figured I'd set that one out. Late night, and probably everybody was in bed at that point. Oh, and Rebo's still friends with those guys. What was he saying? I think that what he said was, what's hard this year is all of a sudden there's expectation. True. Ace made a great comment about, like, you go from last year where I don't, I think people are probably still expecting you to finish bottom five in the league. So you're seeing a lot of backups, and a lot of people kind of like, maybe a little bit mentally checked out, being like, yeah, this is kind of one of those, like, these games, I think we can kind of just throw it in cruise control and win. And they were able to catch a lot of teams off guard with, of course, the backup goalie and just getting their B game. And now all of a sudden people are like, hey, this is like, I mean, we had to make, I had to make them playoffs. I knew that they were going to be competitive fighting for a wild card. I still think that that could be true. Yeah, they're two points out. I think that when you get as close as they did last year and you get the taste of it, you have to remember, like, you're not really close. You haven't even, you haven't even actually gotten there yet. There has to be, like, another gear and another level. And for whatever reason, so far this year, like, I watched that game against Calgary they played the other night where they lost 2-1. Not that impressive. I also think that, like, right now they have Toffoli on that top line with Smith and Celebrini. I kind of would rather them have a guy like, like, I like that, you guys know I like that, I fucking stroke him off all the time. But he would be more of, like, a hymen to them. Like, they need a guy who's going to win his battles along the yellow, who's going to keep plays alive. It won't go to him to die. I'm not saying that's going to happen with Toffoli. Like, he's got a great release. Maybe not as quick in the feet as he once used to be. So, I think shuffling the lines, there is rumblings that they might be one of the teams that could be kicking tires on Edmondson. Yeah, I'm seeing that everywhere. Like, this is, I'm not trying to take the easy way out here. I think that if you're a fan, you're probably like, ah, I don't know if we needed to get Darnell and Truba. Truba's coming off a great year in Anaheim. I get that. Darnell needed a change of scenery. Pick one, you're saying. Similar game. Pick one. And you have $17.5 million locked up in those two guys. I think Orlov comes off the books. But those are three older D-men that aren't really doing much for you. And kind of, I guess, in a sense, at least from the data that's coming out, it's kind of, you're leaking oil there. It's not helping your pace of play. If anything, you got a little bit slower. And maybe it's just getting used to a new team and finding that new groove. But, oof, I could see a regression this year. And then what moving forward? Like, you still have these bit of an acre deals. And you're going to have to sign. You've got to sign Smith, Misa, Stenberg. Stenberg's got, obviously, he's a rookie. He's got two more years. But Smith, he's getting offer sheeted. I keep telling you guys this. It's going to happen. I would think he's signed beforehand. Like, everything I read, like, he's not in any discussions with the trades or anything. I was fucking around. Did you hear my comment to him about the gambling at the card table? Did you hear that? No, I did not. Oh, when I, because he was, they were chirping Rebo about taking all his money on the card table. And on the way out, I go, Mac, you think you would have gave the team a little bit of discount with all the money you made off Rebo at the card table? And they were like, no. He's like, no discounts. As he's taking off his headset, I said, don't worry, Smitty, they'll ask you to get it. Well, the other part of the game I wanted to ask you about is your guy, Sherwood's comments after where a night after this insane four-goal comeback, right, in terms of, like, you're never out of it. He was very upset that the Kings, he said they were up 6-2, put their top power play out. Panarin's blocking shots, celebrating to his best. That bench, it's disrespectful. No, it's not. Until we do something about it, things aren't going to change unless we man up and do something about it. This is the NHL in terms of, like, buddy, 6-2, first power play, you're going out there. Like, maybe 8-0, like, with a couple minutes left. And even then, those talk dogs, they want to go out there and get another point. Absolutely. NHL, there's no time where you're not sending out your first unit. No. Like, that's not how this works, I think. No. So, if you can look up right now, what is L.A.'s power play percentage? So, Newell Brown, who, Yans, he was your power play coach, right? He was my power play coach in Anaheim. Yeah. Unreal. Great guy. 17.8 right now. Okay, so that's after last night. So, it was probably going into that game, like, maybe less than 15%. But even talking about, like, Panarin celebrating a blocked shot, like, L.A.'s, they have 12 points in 14 games. Like, they're trying to get going, too. Yeah. So, basically, what I was getting to is Newell Brown, they let him go. In L.A., they let him go. Le'Veolette brought in Ray Whitney to help out with that. So, you got to use in-game reps to get used to your guys and get your power play clicking. And as you guys know, from a confidence standpoint, where they're at in the standings, in a team that's top 10 lowest scoring teams, you got to get your offensive guys going. Like, Byfield ended up getting, what, he got a power play tip in front of the net off the Panarin shot. The last game, like, Sherwood should be mad at, there was nobody near him. Near him. He was standing in front of the net with not one person. Yeah. It looked like a practice where you just, like, sift one in. Panarin, it was a great shot. Byfield's first goal was, the pass by Panarin was insane. Unreal. Yeah. Yeah, but 100%. You have to, throughout the year, if your power play's not going good, even if it's going good, you want to just keep getting reps. Keep getting reps. And if you're playing against a team where you're feeling good, keep getting more reps because you know that next game, if it's a 1-1 game going into the third, you got to power play. You got to go out there and score to try to win the game. You cannot, cannot blame. Don't you think he's more calling out? His team with that quote, though? I think that he's trying to fire up his guys and using that as an example, and it creates a little bit of, a little bit of spunk animosity going into the next game against, I guess you can call him a divisional rival. And going back to San Jose, the last time I remember watching them play an exciting game was when they came back. It might have been the first game of the year against LA where Celebrini pigeon-tossed Byfield in the corner in overtime to go down the ice and get the goal. So, yeah. I haven't tuned, tuned into many San Jose games where I've been overjoyed with the excitement being provided. Going back to their deco and bringing in Nurse and Trouba, who I respect both their games. They play hard, completely different way that I played. But who's their puck mover back there? Like, you have Love and then Davidson was a first-rounder, so they kind of need him to take a step. He scored the other night. Is it Dickinson? Dickinson. Sorry, Dickinson. My bad. My bad. Look at the difference between when, and this is no shot at Darnell, the difference between McDickinson and Dickinson. David and Leon, when Darnell, when they were playing with Darnell every shift compared to when it's Boosh who's making a tape-to-tape every single play. Like, you need, especially with the Celebrini, Smiths, Misa, you need guys that can break the puck out, get it on guys' sticks. In the offensive zone, get it on guys' sticks in the right position. I just don't see where they have it right now. And I see Trouba and Darnell being more valuable as you get into like harder, more physical playoff-style hockey. And it does take time to adjust. I mentioned Trouba had a great year last year. You know, I really hope that Darnell is able to find happiness in his game that he had when they were in the All-Canadian division. And that could happen. But closed-door meeting at the right time, I mean, how many did you have? I mean, we probably had like two or three in my career with Donor. Yeah. Oh, yeah. We had two or three a month one year in Edmonton. No, we didn't. Oh, yeah. We were just like, hey, let's just close the door. By the end, we were just playing cards. Joey Moss is wrestling. Wrestling cogs. It was Dustin Penner. That's who it was. Joey Moss. Joey Moss. Wrestling matches. Yeah, we're going to have to close the door. The media members are outside. All you hear is. So I think with that, we can throw it over to McBain, our guy in Utah. We sat down with him. Utah keeps cruising along 10-6-0, five points behind the Wild for the lead in the Central. And we sat down with Jack McBain, I think a week or two ago. or two ago so let's throw it over to him right now let's shout out Pink Whitney for a second. That's right. Pinky's up. We are sitting down getting ready to record and right after this, we're going to a sandbagger. That's right. We're going to a sandbagger where the Pink Whitney's always flowing. Pinky's up on the golf course. Pinky's up at the tailgates. Pinky's up at any family gathering that makes family gatherings a little more fun than usual. So shout out Pink Whitney. Shout out all the different size bottles they have. Shout out the little shooters. Shout out anyone who's ever experienced Pink Whitney. And if you haven't, go give it a shot. We love Pink Whitney and Pinky's up is the rallying cry to the group. It means it's time for Pink Whitney shots. Get you hard physically and to support arousal and desire in the brain. Thanks for having me. Of course. Thank you boys too. Jesus. Don Mills flyers. See those rights. I was throwing. He was begging for a left. My first question to you was like that fight that went viral. Like everybody's saying like, that's gotta be the fight of the year, at least so far, but there was a little bit of a conversation going on at the bench before that happened. What, what were you guys discussing? Yeah. I mean, I, I hit dry side all the game before. Right. So, um, I mean, anytime you kind of catch a guy like that, you figure something's going to happen. But, um, yeah, no, he was just, he was just kind of telling me that we were going to, we were going to fight. And, um, I was, I was saying, okay, so there, there wasn't really too much to it, but kind of, kind of expect something's going to happen when you, when you hit somebody like that. Being a college guy, does like the fighting come natural to you? Were you fighting as a kid growing up or is it just kind of, once you got to the league, you just started fighting more? I mean, obviously no fighting in college with the, uh, with the fish bowls and cages and stuff, but, um, yeah, I think, you know, when I signed in Arizona, you're, you're kind of figuring out how you can, how you can establish yourself and make the team. And I kind of found a role being more physical and, um, playing that way. So, um, I think fighting for me kind of, kind of comes from, you know, when I, when I hit and play hard and you kind of have to answer it that way. So, um, I wouldn't say it's anything I'm going into a game looking for, but, um, you know, sticking up for teammates and stuff like that. So, yeah. Witt's attitude completely changed when you said you hit dry side. He's going to be all poopy pants the rest of the interviews. So just, just bear with him. I respect guys playing our squad hard. That's what you got to do. He still has 18 points. What do you, I mean, and yes, he just said our squad. I, we've been raving about your, your team. Um, before the year we were talking like how, how special of a group it is. The contracts, signed by guys, including you who I believe last summer signed a five-year deal over 20 million bucks. Take us through your excitement on that and like how great that must've felt, you know, get some security in your life for the rest of your life. And also knowing you'll be a part of this young group for the next four or five years. Yeah. Yeah, no, it's, it's awesome. I mean, it was a super exciting time, but I mean, coming over with the guys from Arizona and, um, you know, it's pretty much the same core group and, uh, we've been able to sign a lot of the guys to long-term deals. It's a super exciting time for, uh, for us. And, um, you know, being able to sign that for myself was, was obviously great, but, um, you know, we've grown a lot as a group and, um, it's, it's been a lot of fun. I think we got a really bright future and, you know, it's starting to show now. So, um, yeah, everything from the owner to the staff for the players is, has been unreal in Utah. So it's a lot of fun. Yeah. Your dad played in Winnipeg and you were drafted by Minnesota and coming out of Boston college. What I read was you, you didn't think you were good enough to play in Minnesota. Was it that, or you just wanted to be in good weather and go to a team that your dad was affiliated with and keep the legacy going? I don't know if I'd, I would say that, but I think, uh, when you're coming out of going all four years, you become a free agent there in school. And, um, it was kind of an opportunity that I thought, uh, it was too good to pass on and being able to talk to other teams and, um, go that route. So, um, through, through the conversation, we kind of felt Arizona was a great fit and had opportunity to there to go in and play. So, um, well with that, but you know, everything with Minnesota was great. You know, I love that organization. Um, you know, I, I love the spot, but I thought Arizona kind of gave me a good opportunity to go in there and play and, um, establish myself before you make that decision. Like, so I guess you could have signed a few years prior after being drafted, but because you were in like, they, I think they own your rights for four years. Right. So do you, is there a window of time where you get the chat with Arizona or other teams before you make that decision where maybe they, they promise you, Hey, listen, like we're not as deep as they are. We can actually provide you with a roster spot in the NHL right away. And also did you consult anyone outside of your like close circle? Like maybe any other guys who had done it prior? Um, I, you know, I was talking a lot with the agent and my family, I think, but, uh, it all happens pretty quick. I think, you know, the season ended and, um, it was kind of all the week after there were, you know, Minnesota had to give you permission and talk to other teams and it went from there. So, um, you know, talk teams and figured out what, what, what was best. Um, I was hurt at the time, so I wasn't really able to play at the end of the season right away. So, um, you know, there was kind of a lot going on, but Arizona seemed like a great fit, gave me an opportunity to go in there and try to prove myself and, um, you know, try to take advantage of the opportunity. So, um, yeah, no, it, it worked out well. Yeah, it did. I'm looking at your stats in college. You had six goals, your freshman, sophomore, junior year. And then all of a sudden, you know, you have a good, really good senior. You're playing in, in Arizona after that year and you never spend a day in the minors. Like it's probably crazy for you looking back thinking where you were at junior year, sophomore year to never spending any time in the AHL, which I mean, but you just didn't need it, huh? I don't know. Like, yeah, I had a little bit of a slower start at saying school and, um, we had a great team. We had a lot of really good players and, um, you know, we had the Boldy new hook. Um, and my freshman year, it was caught in Hutsko. Um, so, you know, it was, it was tough for getting them, getting the opportunity. And then, you know, senior year, I kind of really started coming. Um, I got a lot, a lot of opportunity there and I was playing a lot. Um, it took me a little bit longer to, to develop and kind of come into myself, but, um, yeah, no, it was, it was great. I think, you know, I needed all four years of school and, uh, it was a great time. I loved everything about college, but, um, yeah, no, it was, it was good. Everyone I've talked to, um, just says you're an old school guy, old school player, old school off the ice. And, uh, just kind of wondering, just cause all of our friends that played at BC all had some run-ins with Jerry York. Cripes, Neddy! I know the story with how many beers did you- That's who you played for? Did, uh, did you ever have any run-ins with Jerry where it was like, how many beers did you have last night? Uh, I mean, there was definitely, definitely some times, but, um, yeah, he was great. I've, his last year coaching was my senior year. So I, I had them all four years there and then, um, then he was done, but, um, he, he was awesome. I mean, he's an unbelievable human being, uh, super nice, treated us well, but, um, I don't think he knew my name until senior year there. I was getting a lot of different names and, um, but it was fun. I mean, Boston's a great city, right? Like there's a lot of schools around there, so you, you have a good time, but, um, the hockey's good as well. It was a little bit unfortunate. Like I went there during COVID, so a lot of stuff got shut down my junior year and all that, but, um, yeah, we had a good time for sure. That's what Jerry had the eye patch on, right? His last year, he was the pirate full year. Uh, he had that during my recruiting, actually. Yeah. So first time I ever met him, he had the eye patch on. Actually. Oh yeah. No, he had an eye patch. I don't think it was from glaucoma, scratch cornea or something, biz. I thought you got glaucoma from like hitting the, hitting the weed too much. I think weed helps the glaucoma. That was the episode of, uh, of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry was smoking the, or Larry's dad was smoking the weed to help with his glaucoma. This is kind of a side conversation It might be a bit of an inside joke That you don't know about But did you realize when I told the story About the guy's sweat dripping in our drinks And you said that sounds like A Curb Your Enthusiasm episode That that actually happened In Curb Your Enthusiasm Yeah there was an episode I was telling the story this summer I go to this place called the Deep Cove Chalet And this fucking waiter Worst restaurant in North America The best But it's got one wrinkle This guy, Gaston I call him He just sweats his dick off Every time he's working He's shaking your drinks like a shake weight And he's just leaking And all of it compiles at his chin And as he's dropping off your drinks The sweat's just dripping in your drinks So I don't know if that's something that you're into Or if you've ever been to the deep I'm good on that You're good? But going back to you Would you consider yourself When Yann's called you old school Do you have a bit of a grumpiness to you When you show up to the rink Not in a bad way But like a resting bitch face Like I'm here to work I'm not here to fucking play tummy sticks And I'm going to maintain this fucking tough guy Bottom six image Yeah you seem grumpy You seem like a grumpy bastard No on the ice it's a compliment I don't know if that's a good thing But no I don't know I think Try to be a grumpy bastard Try to be a little bit light hearted at the rink And you know Try not to take myself too seriously Have fun with the guys But you know I think when the game starts I got a little bit of a switch And you know I think it's a good thing I like playing the game physical I like playing hard And you know like I said earlier It's kind of how I got into the league And it's what's helped me a lot So you know I don't know if I'm grumpy Or any of that But yeah I try to play the game hard And do things the right way But yeah Now Witt did you already mention That his father played over 600 games in the league I said it last episode When we were talking about your fight with Fredrick I didn't know your dad played so long I think two years over 35 goals Was he coaching you growing up Like how much did he mean to you And your development And your kind of love for the game Yeah he was there You know my whole life growing up He coached me kind of all the way through Until minor midget Pretty much So yeah he's been unbelievable The stuff that he's been able to tell me You know on ice but off the ice as well You know he's been through a lot Where are my coffee machines going off here Yeah he's been through pretty much everything So you know he's really good at picking up Little pieces of my game And kind of just guiding me through everything So yeah there's ups and downs You know and he's been Really good at helping You're making a coffee You're not a mid You're not a midday nap guy You'll crush a coffee to stay awake He's a nail gun The machine just goes off whenever I don't know it's making noises But no I'm a big nap guy I'll nap as long as I can Yeah I'll go three four hours on a game day No no game day No shit you go that deep He's old cycle I'm hitting a lot of REM cycles Are you still living at Gunther's house No we split up when we came to Came to Utah After our first year So last year was our first year Not living together And then yeah so now we're apart Okay number one thing you miss About him as a roommate And then number one thing you don't miss Oh man it was fun Like it's fun having a roommate You know you're kind of on the off days You're going and getting lunch and stuff And I don't know we had a good time It was a lot of fun But I don't know He's a little bit messy I guess So yeah We would room together on the road too Whenever we had a hotel room and stuff And he's a big snorer And he'd be keeping me up He snores It was gross Get the guy a CPAP He can't be snoring With shooting a puck like that I know And coming to the house Taking all the goals You guys get recognized Like walking around there Him probably more than me But no I think It's pretty easy It's easy living out here It's pretty quiet and good So yeah it's not too bad Me and his dad are both alumni Of the North Bay Centennial So I'm looking at his hockey DB right now Now what ages were you born For when he was in the NHL Or when he was in the NHL Excuse me He was in Winnipeg for a while Were you alive when he was playing there? No I was done I got an older sister So they had her and I When he was pretty much done So yeah I wasn't around for any of that unfortunately That's kind of nice though Because he was around for you Helped coaching and stuff I guess Yeah yeah yeah He started working pretty much right after He was done But he's always been there for everything He's been unreal Helping me through it all So it's been really nice Pretty cool as a Canadian from Toronto He got to play in three Canadian markets too He got to play in Vancouver, Ottawa and Winnipeg At the time Why are you laughing like that? You say it was good I think like he enjoyed it I don't know if my mom enjoyed it so much You know When she was out in Winnipeg When he was 18 and stuff But I'm not saying it's a bad spot He loved it But I think you know She might have liked some other spots a little bit more A little warmer That's why he signed with the Coyotes His mom's like You do not even think about signing somewhere cold I ain't visiting you No she's liked both my spots so far They would come out and visit in Arizona And I wouldn't see them there Because they'd be golfing all day And then now they come out and visit in Utah They're skiing all day So they go on little vacations Who's the goon in that locker room? Who's maybe the guy or guys that keep it loose Keep it fun Guys are always laughing at Well I heard a story that he filled Weegs' car With the packing peanuts thing So it might be him The oil? The oily ones? That wasn't me But Uh No I don't know That might have been Gunther there too He smirked Jens when you said it He smirked bad Jason Rudy doesn't We got a pretty easy locker room to be honest I mean you know Kel just keeps it pretty light And all the guys are pretty good But you know Gunther is awesome He's super fun Marino We had Tanev there for a while Who was great So you know even the new guys I mean Trocek and Lee have been amazing And we all get along super well So it's been great getting to know the guys And kind of grow together as a group And yeah it's a really close locker room we got Is it fascinating to see Lee's quads in real life? Yeah this guy he's a monster man It's crazy I sit beside him at the practice rink And he's taking up my stall He's a huge human It's unreal Yeah it's abnormal how big his legs are He makes Sid look like they got like twigs on him Is it weird that I'm asking about another guy's legs? Is that why you guys are laughing like that? He's a big football guy too Like he's a great athlete And he's a monster man It's crazy to see He played Was he not a running back in high school? I think he was on real actually He was a quarterback And he was telling me he was getting recruited To a couple schools And kind of had to make the decision Of what he wanted to do And he was a quarterback Went with hockey But I think he had some opportunity for football too So that's pretty cool yeah I heard a story about Veggie Where sometimes on his off days He'll just drive like five hours out of town What's he like as a personality in the locker room? He's Pierre Is he true to that rumor? That he'll just pick up and go And drive out of state on a day off? He's a goalie But yeah no I don't know He likes to drive He likes to see stuff When we're on the road He likes to do touristy things And check out the city So yeah you'll see on his Instagram He's just kind of at a canyon or something On an off day Looking at stuff So yeah no I think he just enjoys driving And learning I guess It's going to be some unreal driving around there too With the mountains and all that Biz you would like that Oh Biz would eat that It's beautiful there Biz would be sending us videos Of water towers I compliment you on that I complimented the water towers Outside of Springfield When we went golfing These guys chirp me all the time So now I'll just send them pictures Of these nice water towers I see along my journeys But I went to the Delta Center For the Nashcast And on the concourse It's beautiful Because it's all glass And surrounding the whole building And you could see all the mountains So as far as concourses to walk And the sightseeing there It's top notch Yeah I know it's beautiful here I mean you drive up through the canyon You head up to Park City It's really nice So it's kind of cool that way Like on off bays You head up there And hang out Walk up and down Main Street a little bit And yeah it's really cool How far is Park City? Park City is like an hour That's not bad It's like 30 minutes from my house here So everything's pretty close It's easy driving here Not a lot of traffic and stuff Does it bother you guys That you can't go out And just get buckled And you have to wait for the next shot And you're like oh my god These stupid rules You need 30 beers to catch a buzz. um it's it's different it's it's different but you know it's it's nice it's it's a little bit of a different pace of pace of life but um you know it's it's uh it's it's beautiful here so we we all enjoy i think if you ask any of the guys like hockey wise is unbelievable and um you know i think living here is really nice as well so um you know nightlife's a little bit different but have you met anyone with more than one wife no no i think uh our business parked up there that'll be business i don't believe them well our first year we were watching that that mormon wives show came out so we were yeah we didn't really know what we were getting into but um the people the people here are super nice and they you know me and gunner were living in uh more of a family neighborhood our first year we did like a like a little house tour thing and probably wasn't the best idea we had to do it but we did it and we did it and we did it and we did people knocking on the door and coming over after that but um it all super nice and really friendly but yeah no uh no multiple how friendly um have any of the guys on the team been propositioned meaning what um do you guys want to elaborate like a cuck chair you look like you're in a chair in a corner right now you might be getting maybe in the cuck chair as we speak no but like i over it's gunther sitting there looking at him i've just heard wick googled it when we were on he said that the the most uh swingers um in as far as states are concerned in the state of florida but i said per capita i think that utah is leading the way where the mormons like to open sesame and i was just wondering if any of the guys have came to the locker room and been like boys you got to listen to this one i'm at the grocery store last night in the deli section and i got fucking miss right listening open having a heart attack you don't have to answer i was just wondering if there was a proposition at some point what's the richest thing okay what's that what's the richest thing you've seen ryan smith do where you're like fuck that's like that's a billy goat right there oh man uh give him 30 i don't know he was he was just on uh college game day there and they had him donate a quick million that was that was pretty rich but um we went to uh for the season last year he went down to pebble beach and we he let us use his house there and that was that was pretty nice so he's uh he's he's been amazing i mean anything that we can uh he can help us with or whatever we need he's been there so um yeah he's he's a special human for sure when we had him on he mentioned there was a three year or three off season uh construction project for the arena i think make it more for hockey and like and and the fans have you made changes to your locker rooms and stuff too because the practice facility looks like it came out incredible we've heard all about that i didn't know if all the changes for the delta center are for the fans or they're down below as well uh i think they're more for the fans um they they built that practice facility so fast and it's it's state-of-the-art like everything about that place is amazing but um our locker room and and everything at the rink was was pretty much done as soon as we stepped foot in there and then um now they're doing it again and they're doing it again and they're just doing stuff i think to the to the stands and making a little bit more enjoyable for fans and making sure every seat you can see the ice on so isn't there a speed skating track at the practice facility so that was our our first year here we were practicing out of uh like a temporary sheet and that was over at the olympic oval so we had the speed skating track around uh around the rink would you guys ever get on there like that's what i was gonna ask we did our uh there's no testing anymore but we did our skating our skating test on that uh our first year and then we tried to do a lap and it's that thing's sneaky long man that's a bad idea skating around that eric hyden okay you guys know who eric hyden is no big guy have the name right here's gold medal speed skater i mean isn't jake paul isn't jake paul's girlfriend like uh yeah with the netherlands yeah absolute breeder eric hyden american he's a physician long track speed skater road cyclist and track cyclist you know this guy won five gold medals at the lake placid olympics and you guys don't know who he is 1980 i wasn't born yet it's five years before i was born either was i sorry for knowing history about great skaters i know that that apollo guy won one for the states apollo oh no that was the short track that was bayner style track little short track physical action in the corners i don't know if uh yeah skating is not my that's not my style there so one of our buddies was out at uh a game in utah last week friend of mine and wits and he said the stadium is like straight up like it almost feels like you're at a coliseum watching the game uh i love that style like kind of reminds me of nashville a little bit where like montreal like do you guys notice that is because that's the best way to play yeah i mean it's pretty steep if that's what you're saying like they uh the end walls you kind of they're right on top of us so it's a it's a great atmosphere to play i mean the fans have been amazing the whole time we've been here they've showed out there pretty much every game um but but yeah the the renovations they've been doing they're pretty much right on top of you in there so it's it's pretty cool um i believe bear outside of coop is now the second longest tenured coach in the nhl is that a fact g you could look that up i mean i know the fact that he's only had one coach in the nhl is pretty crazy yeah what's your relationship with with like uh like with him and i just heard he's salt of the earth like he just tells you how he sees it and like he's so well loved in that locker room yeah yeah i mean he's i mean like you said he's he's the only coach i've i've ever had uh pro um so he's pretty much all i know i think um you know he's been great though ever since my rookie year i think he's he's told me kind of what he expects what he wants for me and and that's been it so that's pretty much all you can ask for is a guy that's you know straight up and up front and um you know he's been through a lot with the group and um you know now we're we're starting to see some results which is great and um yeah no he's been unreal i think you know he's i've i played for him at two world championships as well so you know he's he's pretty much all of that everywhere so yeah how nice is it being part of an organization obviously you guys had a great year last year and goes into the season like you know it's our goal to win the stanley cup but your owner goes out you go out and get trocheck you all go out and get lee like you guys are just stacking your team to make a legitimate push at the stanley cup not only for this year but for years to come like how nice is it to be a part of a organization like that yeah it's i mean it's awesome um you know the ownership here like they're willing to do anything that it takes to win um you know obviously you're it's great to see that you're backed up and by the front office and the and the ownership and um yeah i think obviously we've made really good steps every every year that we've been here and this season going out and getting getting those guys um you know getting leadership and getting a little bit older is is great for our group i think you know we're we're still pretty young but adding those guys is huge for our locker room and um being able to learn from them and you know they've got a lot of experience in big games so that's that's huge for us going forward and trying to make a push in the playoffs um i was wrong it was the fourth longest tenured coach in the nhl i think other than uh bednar cooper and rod the bod but still i mean that's saint louis i think was after him yeah yeah in montreal what's your favorite uh building to play in on the road oh man well i i love our new york trip because usually we go there for like a couple of weeks and then we go back home and we go back home and we go back home and we go back home and we go back home and we go back home you know montreal is great uh vegas is vegas is awesome you know nashville um yeah people people ask that all the time back home it's pretty much every city you'd think would be fun is is good so um yeah i'd probably say new york and new york and montreal you already talked about gunther uh who are you the most like uh like jaw dropped to watch every day in practice i would assume cool is that guy on your team where especially like even just month to month day to day how much he's progressing even as a young player in the league yeah yeah i mean we got a we got a couple guys i mean cooley you know his his skill and his skating is is you know next to none i mean he's he's unreal but keller obviously the way he plays the game is the way he thinks the game is is crazy i mean you know stuff he does out there is is awesome to watch but um you know even even small to be my favorite to watch the way he moves out there looks effortless right so he's uh he's a guy that it's it's it's unreal so you know i wish i could play the game like that but it doesn't even look like he's bending his knees and he's just zipping up and down the ice i've noticed even this year he's playing like he plays physical like he he's really got no weaknesses to his game man he's he's just a guy that you know people might not be talking about as much but he's so good man he's he's smart um he's he's a guy that you know people might not be talking about as much but um he can do he can do pretty much everything he's good defensively obviously great offensively but the way he thinks it the way he uh the way he moves but yeah just just effortless is he as funny as his brother because the clips i see of his brother online they're clowns are you guys talking about like what because some of the shit that they say if i was in the nhl my brother i'd be like dude you gotta stop this like whatever but like he it just seems like he's so cool with it oh i don't give a fuck oh yeah he i mean he's probably the most easygoing guy you can find i mean he's he's great for a locker room too like um i think they probably have a little bit you know of a different you know humor i think uh nicky's a little bit quieter but um but yeah no he's yeah he loves it i think all the guys in the locker room all the guys in the league love it i think um you know jordan's always doing really well with his stuff and uh he's got some great one-liners that so good that a lot of guys are using but great link no just super super easygoing guy and um he's great to have in the locker room for sure i got one last one before the rollback last question so you guys just did a home and home with uh edmonton and how good are they well just like getting a share of the ice with connor mcdavid this guy's just kind of on a different level and every year he seems to bring it up another notch and like this year he's on pace right now for over 250 points i wouldn't be shocked if he's able to maintain it and and compete with wayne's all-time record of 215 points in a regular season there's what's it like just watching him out there and and and having to try to compete against him and shut him down and he ended biz's career just so you know he did he did man he's yeah he's he's different i think uh you know something like i think a lot of top guys you know you play in some some nights you play them and you know they might have a couple points but you don't notice them as much i think every time i've i've played him it's you know he's the best player on there's no real off night if there is he's you know he's still a his off night he might be still a top five player in the league on on his worst night right so he's uh the way the way he's able to move and you know suit skate and do everything it's uh it's crazy to watch and play against so um he's he's a special player and um you know it's he he lit us up pretty good uh last game so so yeah he's angry at you get your hands out of your pants he was the he was the guy who came and cross-checked you right when you bundled leon into the board so that's just where there's hockey that's where there's hockey baby um roll back last question before that your last question does anybody ever like try to chirp him i mean uh yeah i think you know he's he's a guy you probably don't want to be getting upset or you know you don't you don't need him getting more into the game than he already is but um yeah it's probably a tough guy to go at that was like when stortini was zach sortini was chirping joe sackick and it was like near sackick's last year and like everyone's a store it's enough buddy like don't don't say anything to him again like it's seven nothing like we're getting waxed at home by the abs please don't talk to sack already got five points yeah let's drop it all right roll back last question use code chicklets on rollback.com 20 off to the end of the week chiclets on r-h-o-b-a-c-k.com hoodies polos bathing suits swim trunks everything chiclets on rollback you're one hell of a player banner so i'm not trying to be negative oh boy but i was youtube here we go i was here we go i was youtubing you i was youtubing and you know looking at some highlights and stuff and i had forgot so the question is is that hit wilson put on you the hardest you've ever been hit in your life oh fuck buddy can i see this can we pull this up buddy yeah let's pull it up right in front it up the boards and he kind of watches and then turns left and the freight train's coming you ever seen that this face and one of the boys will send it to me so i i had a couple of these right and like i'm not a tank like you so i'm not trying to be that guy but that hit had to be one of the biggest hits i've ever seen oh here it is right here i'm gonna pull it up g just sent it to the chat it's kind of funny like we go home like you go home in the summer and you guys your buddies ask you about the season and all that and like i went home last night and i was like i'm gonna go home last year and it's just that's all that's all i got was that hit but i should have found one of your big hits i apologize but i that was just it was fucking no i mean yeah that's he's he's a big man and yeah that was that was a that was a hard hit so you know my parents come out like a couple times a year and i think that was you know first or second game my mom had been there so um boys i think i was at this game was just like this was he was that's the was that the ovd zone was that that was this at the end of last season yeah yeah yeah i was at this game i remember i saw i saw wilson after the game in the locker room and i was like holy fuck dude he is i didn't realize he'd gotten so like big and muscular i don't know how he moves as fast as he does out there i was at this game you guys lost six three maybe we don't need to be putting that up this is yeah i was just this is the worst he's like i don't know last question of all time it was uh it was tough too because i had i had a fishbowl on like i had a face at the time so it was really nothing much i could do i was just just taking it but um yeah that was that was a big hit and definitely the hardest i've i've been hit for sure you were completely naked after he hit you it's the best i've ever done on a concussion test so i'll tell you that so it was a little weird man if you'd gone to bu instead of bc i would have brought up your hat trick in the ojhl final but i just wanted your opinion on that hit fuck buddy i i apologize no yeah the funniest part about it was carconi like not even doing anything he's like ah i'm not i'm gonna give this guy a fly by they reviewed the hit what happened yeah well we were in the locker room after and krauser ended up fighting on that game but um it was funny like i i ended up getting a 10 minute penalty um going too close to the penalty box or something when he got a penalty and then bear ended up benching me for the whole third so yeah it was a tough game but i'm glad you guys brought it up so you know you got a personality i i apologize when do you guys play washington yeah well we'll see we'll see i don't know i uh i had i fought on my i guess that would have been my third my third year when i collided with ovechkin there um so he he got me there so he's got me a couple times now you had no stick no gloves no helmet on and you're just like looking around at the tweety okay why are you bringing this up i'm just giving people the visual what size are you in rollback we'll send you some stuff this is bullshit i'm not a part of this this shit with these two uh it's it's all good bayner this was awesome yeah bayner thank you dude i mean honestly it's a blast to watch you guys play you are an old school nail gun so we appreciate it and we'll see you next time bye bye appreciate you taking some time and uh good luck with the coffee machine buddy yeah thank you thanks for having me guys it was good all right see you later thanks all right guys guys let's talk about reese's again quick halloween is coming gone want to shout out detroit boys they're six three and one in their last 10 and it seems as if larkin since lark i know he played within those 10 games but since he came back i came out and said like i'm done i think somebody in the room had a quote like all right who is it cider it was cider like this is our team like let's go and maybe it's maybe it's them coming together in the face of like all right he's gone he's like he's not here waiting to get traded now he's just we're not gonna see him them again and it's probably helped them a little bit. Like I know that sounds kind of weird. a very good player but the headache and the questions is pretty much gone now guys i'm assuming reporters aren't asking what they think anymore he's not even around the team so that's pretty cool to see them kind of figured out they beat florida right didn't they beat florida on monday night in florida right so that's a big win and i think they then lost to tampa but still i think it's also um you know larkin was playing a regular shift playing how he normally does and guys on the bench probably like why is he why am i not playing if i want to be here in this guy which obviously when a guy you have a guy like larkin you got to play him if he's you know willing to play but i bet there was a little animosity throughout the group and you know now that they know their group they're they're ready this is their group now yeah this is this is what they have let's go let's go on a little bit of a run see if that can happen and i think the the report was that they were uh horkoff might have asked paperson to just throw some more teams on the bench and he said no i don't think he's going to be able to do that i don't think he's going to be able to do that i don't think he's going to be able to do that and he said no this is the full this is just a full-on game of chicken now um don't know when this is going to end don't know when the edvinson saga is going to end so still some issues there but at least the team is like all right fuck all this like they're not here this is our team let's go um do you think that the kucherov thing affects him in any regard other than taking the attention away from it for a few weeks well they say the kucherov thing's gonna settle itself july 1 right by the way milstein's trying to be the new judd his name's popping up oh yeah he's the russian he's the russian i was look i was shocked to see that was his name and then that i i remember i've met him before but i didn't realize that that was that that was his name i thought like he would have had a russian name well he had an ob at the end he took it off he took it off yeah he got rid of that okay um makes sense now i think based on that interview and i just saw the clips online of it seems like i don't i think he's just they're not going to trade him i don't think not they're just going to try to win one more of them and he's gone but he said he goes it's time to move on like he made it pretty clear like he's not going to sign like he will not sign there um but it doesn't seem as though he'll be traded that that's kind of now who knows how tampa does right come up come march and the deadline like if they're looking like they really aren't a true contender maybe they do trade them but i don't think it's like hey we're waiting by the waiting by the computer here to see where he goes do do you guys think it would be absolutely crazy that the obviously he's going to be the top free agent on the market but also if minnesota keeps quinn and does the same thing to july 1st and then lose them for nothing that you see the two biggest sought after free agents like you could actually get to the free agency that would be the biggest one i would say that like that would quinn hughes getting the free agency is bigger than chara going to free agency when like what was the last biggest signing in league history chara was obviously a way more when he got to boston he was good he had he had started really dominating in ottawa but he became a household name in boston he won a norris petrangelo was a big d signing when he went from st louis to vegas but i he's never won a norris right petro no he's never won a norris he never had enough you sure did he i i didn't know he won he won he did he's got two cups i don't think i i'd be curious to even know if he finished top three at any point never won a norris he never has like enough points especially with like macar and those guys when he was playing i would maybe a couple times he finished like third and voting or something oh i bet i mean who the finalists never once in 17 18 damn 15 goals 39 assists that year they didn't make the playoffs though that year yeah okay he's never even been a top three which is kind of shocking yeah 1920 after their cup season 16 goals 52 points man that is surprising it'd be like if this was early 2000 lidstrom and jumbo joe were free agents at the same time yeah i do really believe though that minnesota can't even if he's like i'm not resigned just go for it i think the way they're playing right now oh yeah for sure go for it it sucks but you're not you're you're not like what you're getting back it's just you got to just go for it try to win so i actually predicted a few years ago when uh new york won the president's trophy that they would miss playoffs that year so i think that that's going to be a big deal for me i think that's going to be a big deal for me i think it's going to happen again for oh yeah yeah that was your original you think you did it when the bruins won the president's trophy too okay yeah so this couple presidents so this could be my third team i've said is not going to make playoffs and then win the president trophy i should lose my seat at the desk no no no no no no because never you know i mean you're getting you're just carving no we need to carve yeah we need to carve the sharks next game so uh cutter gauthier in the second game of the year had two goals and one assist the next nine games he didn't score i think two assists in those nine games and it's like whoa this guy's 40 goals score sniper he then ripped off two goals the following game three goals and the following game another three goals so just to be able to do that like as a guy who right if you don't score as a forward in the nhl top two line forward i guess you know nine games 40 former goal scorer like it's kind of panic time i'm sure he's like i'll probably have a three game stretch with with six six seven goals he ends up getting he's got 10 goals now and to do that is insane and and and and edmonton edmonton anaheim tonight edmonton coming back from a phenomenal road trip in which they lost the final game of the trip to the devils in a shootout and i'll give posh the devils outplayed him he she looked incredible against mcdavid hellebuck gets his first home win for the devils is a shootout loss like i tweeted that shootout losses like don't count in my mind sorry like you don't they don't happen in the playoffs i'm not too worried about it but the devil's hell of a team jack hughes had a couple goals um posh what are your thoughts on luke putting the blanket around uh mcdavid sweet posh is coming over oh i thought you had a mic sorry oh wow it was a regular season game you wanted to shoot this is not you know okay we're leading our division we're tied for the western conference we're tied for the most we're not talking will is right now what okay the 60 minutes five on five was a complete domination yeah our third game in four nights um against a very good team and we got a point like what do you want me to say right now and you didn't have your starting goal well jari was playing 11 2 and 3 where wow i just 19 we have not lost in regulation on the road what a bummer i'm flipping here no no i'm not here to talk the oil i'm here to pump the devils but sorry just repeat that sense you said third game in four nights against a what really good team okay because um you got hellebuck i said that before hellebuck less than three weeks ago october 17th i have a text from you ryan winning it says your team keeps winning and you keep winning and you keep winning and you keep winning and you keep losing and you just keep saying they're nasty they're nasty i think you might be very dumb funny how he has their six in one he has receipts when you say something bad but when it comes to the money stuff he never has the no no i have receipts i owe you three grand on the nose now after chipping away another hundred last night i thought it was like 4600 buddy no no i'll break it down for you dollar for dollar oh yeah i really trust your breakdowns so that quote is from less than three weeks ago they're six they turned it on okay so do you still think that i'm very dumb because you can get rid of the very because i because if you remember you kept just looking at fucking oh wins and losses using your fax machine to look at plus minuses what i was saying the underlying process under the hood does not match their wins trust the process trust the process this is good the regression is going to come and what do you know it's come and the devils are a fucking wagon and three of those wins you had an all-time great goalie in net four so actually you know what last night or against the oilers hell buck let in like one and a half goals below expected he didn't have a good game hell did not have a good game okay which congrats on the shootout um it was just some legendary um and anaheim's in town uh to play edmonton tonight and look out for a beckett seneca tip in goal that is he'll be getting his cookies insane that's so it had to be g's thinking it had to be next now yeah dm a couple bam bams and i'm just they don't give those out anymore no hey if that's a stone cold i was like oh this is messed up who's doing this ai and everybody's like no no no no no this is an ai okay so the tipping one was good but the best one was they sent his draft reaction saying bennett was seeing that he posted this to a story and he he gets his chair and he's like oh no oh no no like i was fucking dying dude so did somebody get me did somebody get me on a trick where it's macaroons right macaroons but then somebody had like pizza bites that did you see that one yeah they swapped them out you know those awesome like pizza bites you drop in the marinara sauce that was the first one i saw and you couldn't see the tip and i'm like oh this isn't that bad oh and like those pizzas those pizza bites look great and it turns out it's macaroons a little slice of the tip so you think his that is one that is one where i miss being in the nhl so bad because the locker room the locker room i would have brought in i would have brought in saturday live from macaroons the next day put him in his locker i would add a macaroon guy make him i would have changed my name to keith macaroons that locker room was was a full-blown like chris farley comedy yeah like if it wasn't if it was it had to be incredible the guys giving it for that just an amazing Amazing Instagram drop by Beckett Seneca. Just a sick player, too. You didn't coach him. You, like, has to call him and be like, hey, tone down the gram and the snaps. Wait, it was on Instagram? It was on Instagram. It was public Instagram stories. Oh, I thought it was a DM leak. It probably went to be a DM. No, no, no. No, if it was a DM leak, that's like, that's bullshit. Like, fuck, he's sending that to somebody. He's probably trying to DM it to someone. He's straight up like, hey, Ducks fans, you like macaroons? You like the tip of my cock? Here you go. We're rolling. Oh, good shit. It's going to be good shit. To be young. Is that a piece of chewed up bubble gum on my macaroon pack? Can I return this? Oh, man. So I'm assuming that he tried to send it as a snap chat. Or somebody said there's a personal friends list, which is even sicker. You can't be doing shit like that on your personal friend green list on the gram. Unless they're all smoke shows that he's just like. Or it's just all the guys on the team just sending. Like. Because that's funny. I just assume there's like some macaroon like inside joke. Like, here are the macaroons we always talk about over my hog. Come over for dessert. Come over. That's kind of what it was. I come over for dessert. We should get macaroons. The Bruins, I guess I should have mentioned this before, but was it Singzy? Was it our guy Singzy who says that the Bruins are trading for market? Singzy set the world on fire. He said he heard from a. And it was just phantom? Well, no. He actually did have a pretty good. I asked him who he got it from. And he said. He just gave you a source. Oh, he gave me a source. Oh, yeah. Oh, Singzy did? Yeah. Elliot Friedman's just rolling around hearing somebody gave a source out. What's the probability that he was right on this? It wasn't right. I mean, at least from what I heard, like what Witt said before is like Detroit was asked to expand the list. He said no. I went as far as I was DMing guys. And this is so embarrassing. I was DMing guys. Not as embarrassing as some other DMs this week. Yeah. No, you're at least second on the list. I hit up some guys in Larkin's that were groomsmen in Larkin's wedding. That's crazy. And I just said, hey, expand the list. Tell your boy to expand the list. You beat you beat Macaroon, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Can we go back to that? What do you what's the craziest thing that you've hit send on that wasn't supposed to go where where it went? I couldn't play in the Fallon Cup one year. This isn't. And. My brother, Sean, was getting married and it turned out that it like poured rain the entire tournament. I was like, yes. And like at one point they switched every flight. So there's like seven flights to nine whole matches except for the championship flight that remained 18 whole matches in which you have to win that to win the Fallon Cup. I don't know if I mentioned I won that this year. Yeah, you did. We won that. And I'm down the Cape and it ended up being beautiful out. It ended up like they made all these matches. And it ended up just being incredible weather and people were fuming and just like, I can't like this is just the tournament's like a shit show now. Like we could have played whatever. Oh, they were trusting, assuming the rain was coming, but it stayed beautiful. So I texted I texted somebody and I said, wow. And I was talking about the pro at the time. I said, well, this guy really fucked this up. What an idiot. What a joke. What the fuck is he thinking? I sent it to them. That guy. Oh, no. Now, in fairness, that's just an immediate panic. I'm like, oh, man. But before he could respond, I said, hey, just letting you know, these are the type of things being said about you at the club right now. He's like, these guys are saying that I'm not playing in it. I'm just letting you know that guys aren't happy. And he was like, he was like, thanks a lot. I appreciate that. So I felt very bad about that one. But I ended up kind of skating away from that one. So no, you didn't. The guy closed doors. We're meeting. He's like, and when it's the only one who respects me, I had went to R.A. one time. It was supposed to be to wit when we were doing the pod back in the day on his couch. R.A. told a story about like him wheeling abroad or something back in the day. And I meant to text Wix at wit. And I was like, no shot. This story is true. Oh, and he looks at his phone right after him was just like, you motherfucker. And I was like, dude, I think R.A. was still going back in the day to R.A. Super Bowl Tuesday night, by the way. Just. Scoring ham on the Internet after the blue wave around the United States of America. I never seen him that happy on Twitter. He was loving life. I think at one point, like he responded to somebody. He was dogging Elon. And then he was like, that motherfucker's never built shit. Like, I think he's built a couple things that and his hate for Elon began before Elon was in politics. It was the original like, I hate him or something like I'll crush him in jeopardy. Like that was years ago. So. R.A. Shout out R.A. I would love to see, you know, they do those debate chairs now. Him and Pasha going at it about Elon and his creations and what that could be a little thing for us. We got a million views. Yeah, we could get we could let's let's drop an R.A. Pasha debate. We should do a dikathalong where they play chess against one another. They debate one another. Pasha. Just the sight of Pasha. Yeah. Join the clock. The fuck out. Who doesn't? Who doesn't? That's weird. Because usually. Usually the Dems love the Islams. Pasha representing the state of Michigan. We cover it all here. Yeah, we're really getting down. We're the most diverse podcast. Pleasure now being joined by the executive director, the man who runs the National Hockey League Players Association, Marty Walsh. Marty, thanks for joining. Thanks. Thanks, guys. Thanks for having me today. This is great. This is great. We got so much to talk about. It's a great time to be in the players' union. We've been talking about that. Oh, fuck. Before we hop into that, I'd kind of love to know, you're a politician for a long time, and take us through how this job even came about, how you got where you're at now. Yeah, I was mayor of Boston for seven years, and then I went to work in the Biden administration. I was labor secretary for two. And I got a call one day from someone asking if I'd be interested in having a conversation about the. I was the executive director's job for the NHLPA. And I said, yeah, absolutely. And they reached out, they had the agency they hired to do this, to reach out to me and asked me if I'd be interested. We talked about it a little bit. I had some interviews, a bunch of interviews with players, asking me questions about politics, mostly about my thought process and how I'd run the union. I do have a history of being the president of my union in Boston, and I ran the building trades for a couple of years. So I talked about all that. And then before you know it, I'm going to talk to you about a couple of things. The executive board voted to move my name on to the final. And then the board voted, the team voted unanimously to appoint me the next executive director. So I view this job as, you know, when I was looking at the job and being interviewed for the job, it's a little bit of both. It's a union job, obviously. You all know that, all you guys play. But it's also business development, economic development and growth. The more we can do growth for hockey, the better it is for the players and the better they can do, as we're seeing with the increase in salary cap and the no escrow for the last couple of years and things like that. So it's kind of, it was in my wheelhouse as far as all my, my, my previous worlds kind of mixed together, working in politics, growth in Boston, economic development, growth in Boston, and then, and then at the building trades, creating opportunities for, for market sharing and more jobs for the union, union workers. And you came in, I believe right after a mayor Menino, who did an amazing job in Boston. And then in the NHL, you come in after Don fear, who did a great job for us. Like, how is it coming in after guys like that, who have, you know, gotten it to where it is, and then you're taking it to the next level. You know, when I got elected mayor, the guy proceeded, succeeded me as a state rep, uh, Danny hunt, people would say to him when we're together, you have big shoes to fill. And I used to, when I hear that, I used to laugh and I said, no, he has his own shoes to fill it. And what you do is you don't try and compare or, or necessarily do exactly what your predecessor did, but you try and make changes moving along the way. And sometimes it's actually better following in an organization that you have a long time leader in, because when you do change it. it doesn't, it seems drastic and dramatic, but it's really, you're moving in, in the positive right direction. You're trying to move in the right direction. And I think that, you know, listen, when I became mayor, obviously I had 20 year mayor there, uh, John Fair did, you know, I think 13, 14 years in the PA. You don't, you don't take away what they did. They did wonderful things, but we tried to build upon what they did and try and do things in your own way. Uh, and that's what I try to do. And, you know, I was fortunate enough in all my roles to have a great person with me. And in this particular role, Ron Hainsey's, uh, you know, the assistant executive director, you know, we're, we're an interesting match because I'm not a lawyer, but I am, I did do union stuff and I did economic development stuff. He played 19 years in the league. So having that, that connection, listen, I can't come on this podcast and talk to you about rules of the game. I mean, I could talk about it, but I'm talking as a fan, but he can come on and talk as a player and understands what, what it means and in a lot different way. And having that, that balance inside the PA, I think that what was there before, but not quite to this level. Uh, you know, we, we, we, we talk about every issue that comes up, we make decisions together on stuff, uh, and we have a good group of people. So if I come up with an idea that might be a terrible idea, I'll hear it. They're not afraid to, and, or if there's something I think we should look at differently, we do that too. So, uh, it's, it's great to have that person, that balance inside the player association. And I think the players recognize it. I mean, I think that, you know, we've gone around now, uh, in the midst of my fall tour, uh, right now we're team number 18 tonight. Uh, and I think that, you know, we've gone around now, uh, in the midst of my, uh, um, so, you know, I've, I've talked to these guys, I've met them a lot and, and I don't think you can represent people if you don't know who they are. And that's one of the things the players asked in the beginning. I said, I want to get to know every player in the league, what they're all about is best their families. So I can fully understand how do I represent them? If you don't know your, if you don't know the membership and you just represent them from, from the office in Toronto or New York, wherever it is. I mean, that's, that's really not representing them. Did you think the Minnesota wild were a playoff team this year? Well, they were playing a few last year. Pretty good political answer there. Um, mine was going to be like, obviously through negotiations thing can, can get a little bit hostile sometimes, but I would imagine negotiating for the players is nowhere near the type of mud that's being slinged in politics. So how was it like when you were doing, when you were the mayor of Boston and doing everything in that regard compared to like what it's like negotiating for the players when it comes to like a new CBA say, you know, first of all, I wasn't around. 2012, 2005 and before that. So I think there's a lot of much slinging back then with the negotiations with the NHL, you know, listen, I've been in this, when I say I've been in this business, I grew up in a labor family. My uncle ran the labor's union in Boston. My father was a member for a long, for, for his whole career, his whole life. Um, I've been in labor politics for a long time. I've been on every side of negotiations in the sense of the battles, the streaming, the throwing things across the table, all that stuff. I've been at different types of negotiations. And when I came to the PA, our negotiation with the league was a little different. You know, we, we did it with, uh, when I sat down with Gary Bettman, the second, first meeting we had, actually, we talked about doing an extension of the contract and I told him I just started, so we can't do it yet. But when we, when we ultimately got to that point, I said to him, like, let's just do it ourself. We don't need outside lawyers. You know, we don't need this stuff. I'm going to, I'm going to sit with my, my side of the table was our side of the table was myself, Ron Hainsey, Don Zavalo, and John Gerber was, was not in the room, but he was part of it. On their side, uh, they had Bill and Gary and their attorney. And, and, you know, I said to Gary, listen, like things are going in the right direction here. Uh, you're seeing growth in the league. So I'm going to tell you what I want and what I need. You tell me what you want and you need. And it was a little different than past negotiations where, you know, I give him 350 proposals. He gives me 250 proposals. Let me go through them all for months and have bad feelings. I said to him, if, if there's an issue that, that is sticky, let's me and him hash it out. Um, you know, let's, let's not have a public battle. I don't like, I don't like going through the press on this stuff. Uh, you're going to find out today in the podcast, we asked me questions. Like sometimes I just won't ish stuff out, uh, just because I won't. But I just think at the end of the day, I have to get wins for the players. Uh, you know, in city halls, a little different. It was interesting cause I was on management and city hall. So I had unions coming into me. Uh, Keith knows a lot of the guys that came into me and ladies came into me and they wanted the world and I couldn't necessarily always give the world to them. So it was like, you know, but you know, at the end of the day, negotiation, in my opinion, is both sides feel like they, they, they, they got something out of it and our side always wins both sides. I guess it was. So in March, it'll be four years since you took over. Um, yeah, it's crazy. Well, I know it's, it's nuts. Time's fine. What is something or one thing you look at that you're kind of most proud about that you guys have accomplished in those four years? Personally for us, I think the lack of any beef and the easy transition to the new CBA was like, that was a dream come true. Cause we played through the other two, the half season stoppage, the full season cancellation. So no beef and that moving on that for us was it. But I don't know if there's anything else for you that you're really proud about. I mean, I'm proud of getting the players back in the Olympics. You know, I heard from Connor and Sid and all those guys when I, when I was going for the job, they want to get back in the Olympics. I'm happy we're back in the Olympics. I'm happy we have a schedule. I'm happy we have a schedule now for world cup of hockey. You know, four nations was a kind of a tease into the Olympics and then we're going to have the world cup next year. And then now we're on every two year basis of having best on best world cup and, um, in Olympics. So I think that that's a good one. Um, I think the, you know, partly due to the economics, the financial aspect of it, you know, when I was, when I took the job over, um, when I took this job, you know, there was, you know, I think 16 out of 17 years, you guys paid escrow. Uh, so you, so a hundred percent of your sales value wasn't a hundred percent. It was like, you know, some cases it was 85, some cases it was 90, some cases 94. Like I think when you sign a contract and you, for a hundred percent, you should get a hundred percent. So I'm happy that we're able to, to continue to fight and grow the game that way. Uh, obviously I haven't dealt with COVID in this role. I dealt with it as mayor. So that that's another good one. Uh, having a new agreement, labor piece, I guess, if you call it for the next four years is important. Um, and then being part of this, the business office. I mean, we're growing the business inside. We brought college postal on, uh, to help us. On the business side, you know, Kyle's great. We're like chatty on to, with the DPS. So we have, you know, two guys who just recently retired that are in there that have a respect to the players. You know, we have some other great guys, Chris Campoli and Rob Zams still there. And Joe Ricky, uh, Rob Zep is doing international hockey. Now we have an international hockey division inside the player association. So those are all good things. I mean, and I think that all of that stuff is compounds into like successes for the players. And my goal at night is when I go to bed, just make sure that, you know, I try and get as many wins for the players as I can. And, um, you know, and can do the job to the best of my ability. Who are some of the guys around the league that, you know, have surprised you with whether how much they care about the league, you know, how much they want the league to do better. Cause at the end of the day, you need the big guys to be on the front lines, right? I know when we were dealing with it, a lot of the reps on the teams were the third, fourth line guys, but to really get your point across, you need the big dogs to be a part of it. Well, everyone, you know, when you have, when you have these meetings, we met with Edmonton the other day. So, so Connor was like very engaged in the meeting and conversations and you know, we had to say, uh, you know, Zach was there too. We met with the plant Panthers the other day, you know, Matthew knows this stuff inside out. Brady knows it inside out. Uh, a lot of the guys, you know, you go around league, Nate McKinnon's another guy asked a lot of questions at these meetings. So, you know, you have players that, that, that are the stars in the league that are asking questions, particularly the older guys, the younger guys, as you know, takes them a couple of years to kind of feel comfortable enough to speak in a room like that. Uh, but it seems like, you know, people are very interested in, in the growth of the game and what are we doing to grow the game? And I think that, you know, when you saw four nations after four nations, we saw a bump in viewership for a little bit after that. And then after the Olympics saw a big bump in viewership and after that, so, you know, we, we just have to, we have to just grab these people that haven't been historically hockey fans or haven't historically watched the game to get them engaged in the game. Now, if we get them on a clip on a Instagram post or a tweet or whatever it might be that we lure them in, but you know, every, you know, you think of when, when the gold of the Olympics is 20 plus million people watching it in, in one country, it's like, well, okay, there's hockey fans there. They just, we just need to get them to get more engaged with their teams in their cities or, or in the regions. What would be like, like you're always looking forward, right? Obviously the last one and extending it and what the players are making is tremendous. Uh, what is like the, like the things moving forward, maybe that you didn't nip in the butt in the last negotiation that already are coming up as, as something that you would be wanting to ask, let's say the next one. There's not a lot in the last negotiation. A lot in our office. Now we want to do in the office, inside of the office, you know, at the end of the day, this is all about, this is all about, we get 50% of whatever, whatever's raised. So, so we, you know, we can't, we have a salary cap and the players aren't making good money. Everyone's making great money now. They are, but they're capped, you know, they're still capped at what they can make. So what we want to do is do the best we can to, and this has to be both us in the league collectively working together to grow the game. If we don't do it together, if one side trying to stop the other side, well, let's, let's do it together. If we don't do it together, that's stupid. That's dumb. If we're not trying to grow the game and, you know, we have to try different things. And, you know, the one thing that we do have that people don't see with the league is we, we are working hand in hand in, in international stuff. We're working hand in hand in, in business growth to the best that we can. So, you know, we, we have to keep doing that because for me and for the players, right, it's all about salary cap, keeping escrow close to zero as close as possible, raising the cap, putting more money in the system, allow players to, to get their contracts that are good contracts for them. People don't realize this, you know, hockey players, you guys know this. I mean, you might play one season, your career could be over. You could play 10 or 20 who knows but like in that you have a certain earning time capacity not everyone's going to make 20 million dollars a year some guys are going to make the entry level so we got to try and do the best we can to grow as much as possible for these guys we've kind of often discussed on this podcast i think that a lot of us from a fan perspective enjoy the the hard cap because it makes our league a lot more competitive obviously the flip side is it kind of limits like the top end guys for making probably what they deserve and it being more of a free market we've discussed maybe like allowing like one guy a team to where they don't go towards the cap so based on what you just said would you be happier if there wasn't a hard cap and or if there was like a uh i guess a middle ground there so we could help grow it in that regard i'm not going right now i don't have words for me um you know again it's a system that that i came in under we haven't had a conversation the players have not asked me to look at that uh that system you know people come up like you know basketball i think has the has the max contract for a player i think maybe the max contract you know all of that is 50 of this revenue comes out of the player share so i guess we could look at that if we want to but that'll come that that comes out of player share too but they do have the ability to earn up to 20 percent that can't up 20 percent of the salary cap and no one's close to 20 percent no one's done that yet well i think i think i think maybe mccarr just got it i didn't yeah i'm a guy you're right sorry i wasn't trying to jam you up i was just kind of fast but but i mean the salary cap is an interesting one because again like you look at industry um you know no other industry other than professional sports really has salary cap right you're in the free market industry and you work for a union you know you can negotiate whatever wage you get now i know it's a different situation but there's no salary cap in that but this this fight happened a long time ago unfortunately that didn't you know unfortunately it's gone the way it has maybe you know we'll see what happens in baseball now with baseball um but the way the structure is right now as of today with the cap going up he was going to start seeing more players um making more money otherwise it wouldn't well wit our advice to the players was if we were playing golf with a few of them we said take the deal because you're going to end up sitting out so would the baseball players that baseball players so would you your advice to them be like don't take the hard cap i think they have to fight it now until they can figure out how how it affects them i mean i think that's what they're going to have to do it as a as a group of guys um you know they have to make that decision on their own at some point i mean just like the nhl you know they i think the season was lost and if it went another six months where the cap have come in i don't know uh but it's it's a hard one i mean you get it you get people that are this is their livelihood and not every player is making 400 million dollars in baseball there's a handful of them and at some point somebody's got to make a decision if they can their families can stay out that long or how you know baseball is bracing though baseball pa mlbpa is bracing for a a a long fight and again in that particular case i just think that when it hits the press when when major league baseball first shot out the proposal and went to the press with it they really i think they should have talked to the players for us before you go to the press with it but that's that's that's not me i'm not over there in the owners just they and same with the nhl in 05 like they want to see players start battling against each other like right like you to to not look like a like a unified force is a hurt for them and i know there's been different stories from mlb but within hockey the cap going up has been incredible and it's going to continue to go up we've seen the numbers that are all projected and i guess this wouldn't concern you and and your guys but has there any been any discussion how there might be a lot of teams that don't spend to the cap or are you guys like hey we don't care because we're just getting it to the max for all the players this is good as we care about the players but there will be teams who don't spend to it and that might change things yeah i think that i think you guys know this when the cap was initially in stall and put in that was the intention not to have everyone to the cap there was there was it was a you know an escalation between the low teams and the top teams and if you're a team that's you know going for the stanley cup you're all in if you're a team that that's rebuilding you're not you're not going to go to the cap for just to go the cap and i think that that that levels off the the salaries and and the keeps escrow down side of that if every team went to the cap i mean that we'd have an issue with the escrow potentially uh unless the revenue is there so again like this is built to rebuild on the flood rebuild as you're rebuilding you go higher as you're coming down you're coming down that that's how the system is was structured i guess what do you think uh you know the last few years you see more and more guys uh you know asking for trades before their contracts are up stuff like that and guys having a voice and i know for us former players like you know we like it you know we think it's a good thing or at least i do that guys have their own say guys have control of where they want to be um it's kind of what are your thoughts on on guys having their own voice and expressing them well they should have their own voice i mean you know if a team is offered uh a package for a particular player uh you know they're not going to the players say how do you feel about being traded to x team they just trade you and i think having players having the ability for players to be able to make a decision if they want to move on to different places i mean there's a lot of different stories which i'm not going into about why certain players and there's more players asking you know but i think i think that you know if a player um feels that they're they're not valued in a particular town um and they want to ask for a trade they should be able to do that i mean and you know i think that you know when you think about this you know that there are teams that when you sign a contract you know you want to be in that town you sign an eight-year deal back in the days or maybe seven now and your intention is to stay with that team for seven years if four years into the agreement you decide that this isn't for you there's something happens because when you sign the seven-year deal your planning was to stay in that city for seven years you're going to be in that city for seven years and you're going to be in your family or anything else so i think players you know that and the no trade conversation that was going on a little a few weeks ago um you know that's all quite the bargain i mean we we fought for that and negotiated that it happened when this the cap came i think happened when the cap came into play a lot of it happened and you know when you negotiate a contract if you're able to get in the contract that's what you should get gary betman basically called me uh an idiot on live television because i i talked about the the no state tax stuff now from a guy who's i mean i would assume you're pretty neutral on this do you view it as an advantage or something that you think needs to be addressed moving forward in negotiations you know i think a lot of players talk about it obviously and a lot of players talk about it when when they when they when they sign some places they want there for no no no tax but if you look at the history of the last 15 years the nhl and the stanley cup champions um a lot of the stanley cup champions came from cities that had a higher tax rate than zero tax now florida florida is the exception obviously panthers win it tampa wins it teams that win no taxes but when pittsburgh was winning they had won the highest tax i don't know if i shouldn't say one of the highest they had a high tax rate compared to other places when boston won in 11 they didn't have a millionaire's tax back then but there was a tax there um i don't i don't know if it's as big of an issue as everyone thinks it is but at some point if it gets to a point where we're seeing this shift of players just signing with no taxes sit places with no taxes then we'll have to address it but teams that like you had these all the players in california that signed big deals and that's that's a high tax date um you know so it's there but you know it's one of those things you look at other sports too like it's not giving the dolphins an advantage obviously it's not giving the marlins an advantage or maybe well tampa bay doesn't sign big money players anymore the baseball i'm talking about so i i think we have to keep an eye on it but i don't think i don't think it has the biggest an impact today as everyone thinks it might could it someday i'm not going to say never because you start seeing places players sign with zero taxes um no state tax that could become an issue and only i just pulled this up so the last stanley cup seven stanley cup finals there's been a representative from a no state tax state uh vegas last year florida the year before florida the year before that florida was in the finals against vegas so there's two of them in that one year before that tampa year before that tampa and the year before that tampa and dallas too so i would say that what of that 14 there's like 10 yeah okay was it okay 10 out of 14 all right i didn't know that well i'm just i'm just saying i got called an idiot on national television over this so i was just trying to like i guess yeah i don't think i'd call you an idiot over it i think thank you listen it's that's what i was looking for it's something that glares you in the face that you see like obviously the the numbers kind of potentially speak for themselves but you also think about those teams well some of those teams they've done some great drafting of players tampa florida's done some amazing signings is there a way and i know biz has mentioned that where like a province or a state like they're able to say hey you're an athlete that comes in here you're bringing in lots of money for our city and stuff like that we're not going to tax those players is there anything you can i wish they would think that way they don't think that way so we just we just defeated the pittsburgh jock tax that was on there and we won the case and now we're in the process of trying to figure out the back wages for players for years they were they were taxed a jock the players that played in pittsburgh and players that came in from pittsburgh some of you guys probably owed some money yet uh wow it's my check in the mailmark so so like i don't think cities will do that or cities won't do that i mean it's just one of those things that we we just have to make sure we don't have these jock taxes all over the place i think it's unfair to tax it's entertainment right so you're providing a service in a city and now you're taxing them for that entertainment that's crazy what year did that pittsburgh one start uh it got your your part yeah i think you might be proud of it not much you're gonna be getting a check with I guess so. I mean, it'll go right to my wife, but it's a check nonetheless. Okay, I'm curious about this one because we hear, you know, you hear rumblings and rumors about expansion. Now, for you, I would guess, and Ron, it's like, hey, this is great. More jobs, more money for the players, more, you know, it's great. But there's also a side of, like, you don't want the product watered down. Now, do you take that into effect, or are you more just looking, players make more money, more players make more money, we don't really care if the product were to maybe, like, take a hit, where some people say there's enough, there's too many bad teams already to add two more? Unfortunately, we have zero say in this. You know what I mean? We have zero say in this. It's the board of governors that make the decisions on this. If they choose, I mean, you know, I'll let my opinions, you know, this was talked about in the beginning when I think they were looking at maybe Houston and Atlanta, and I said we should look at Austin just for the heck of it because Austin's a growing city. You know? You look at what's happened with the Golden Knights and Seattle Kraken and Utah is not an expansion team, but for all intents and purposes, it feels like an expansion team. You know, those are three big victories in the league as far as revenue and growth in the league. So we have no say in that as far as where it goes or even the fee that can enter into the league. That fight was lost a long time ago, so the players don't benefit from that. Obviously, I'll ask when the time comes, but I know what the answer will be. But, you know, we do represent more players. I just want to make sure that, you know, I think business is getting this way a little earlier. Somebody talked earlier about the revenue coming to the league and the league growing and stuff like that. We need to make sure all the teams are equitable. Like, we can't have a team in a region or a city that's underperforming, losing money. It just doesn't help the league. Like, you look at NFL, all 32 teams make money because of their TV deal. We've got to get to a point where everyone's making money. Their franchise value is going up. We all know that in a big way. But we want a league that's healthy and successful. So I think when you look at expansion, if you can make sure the expansion works and all 32 teams are earning and making money, that's the place we all want to be. It's best for our players, too, in that case. What was your relationship with Gary before you got in? I'm sure you had some run-ins with him when you were mayor and doing stuff for the league or whatever. But just curious to know what your relationship was before and then now as well. Yeah, I really didn't have one before. I met him over in Charlestown for the dedication of a street hockey rink over there. I forget what year it was, maybe 14 or 15. And then during the Stanley Cup Finals in 19, I met him again when I was the mayor. So I had met him a couple times in my career. It was just a, how you doing? I'm the mayor. I hear the commissioner and all that stuff. It's been a good relationship. Like I said up front, I said, if you have an issue, let me know. He said, if you have an issue, I told him I don't deal to the press. So if I have a problem, I'm going to pick up the phone and call you. And that's how we operate. If there's an issue that comes to the forefront, I'm going to pick up the phone and call him. I told him the same thing. If you have an issue that you're concerned about, call me. Rather than send signals to each other through the press, it doesn't work that way. Ron and Bill talk a lot as well. So if something comes up, whatever it might be, a suspension or whatever, whatever the issue is, you know, there's a lot of phone calls that happen. You know, we've had a couple issues with the PA and the league. You know, bigger issues that you've been in the press. So we try to deal with those as best we can. But keeping that open line of communication is important. You know, he doesn't always say yeah. And I don't know. He doesn't always say yeah. So I think that's a healthy relationship. So the whole discussion, like, about no-move clauses, right? Like, that's something that you would think at some point the owners are going to be like, ah, like, this isn't ideal. And is that something for you guys that you want as many of those as you can? That's what players want. Like, I want to get a deal where I get a no-move clause. They can ship me out wherever. But at some point, would you expect them, you know, I know you don't want to put words in their mouth, but would you expect them to be like, all right, there's just too many. Yeah, I'm sure the next negotiation, that's on the list. There's no question about it. You know, Gary was asked a question the other day. He didn't bring it up. He was asking, and Fantas told him, he was asked a question. He gave his answer about it. You know, Ron did an interview, you know, put back our feeling on it. And I was interviewed a bunch of times about it. And I said, it's a player's rights. And they can negotiate no-trade clause. They want to negotiate no-trade clause. They can negotiate a six-year contract making a million dollars a year if they want. And they're worth 10. They can do whatever they want in negotiation. So no-trade is part of that conversation. So I think, you know, the next negotiation, if it's still an issue, it might not even be an issue. And I said, like, we haven't talked about no-trade clause now. Well, I guess in the Larkin case, a little bit's coming up a couple times. But, like, it's kind of shifted away from no-trade now to players asking for trades. And, you know, so a year from now, no-trade might not even be an issue that's discussed in the world of hockey. But I'm assuming, I'm expecting in three and a half years, when we can sit back down at the table, that's probably on the list for the league side. So we're a players' podcast here, so oftentimes we do take their side of things. Like, we try to be as unbiased as we can. Obviously, your job is to represent the players. When you're having these conversations with them and also Gary, how often are the fans being brought up? And just the reason I ask for something as simple as, like, obviously the league's had so much success, there's so much money coming in. And then this year, we said, you know, we're going to do this. We see, like, there's been attendance issues. Obviously, there's 84 games, and maybe it's a little harder to pique fans' interest to spend money this early, considering they're poised for a long run. But with, like, ticket prices being so aggressively risen and, like, the cost of jerseys and just really how much it costs to bring them to the games, do they ever come up in conversation when talking with Gary and the players about, like, what's in it for them and how do we keep them as engaged and, like, liking the product where it doesn't feel too much like a business? Yeah, I haven't. Me and Gary haven't had that per se conversation. We did talk a little bit about where we are in the economy now, which I'll come back to in a second. But we monitor, just like the league does, we monitor gate receipts. We get a report from the league. We look at it. You know, when you see a place like Vegas not selling out every night that sold out since the beginning, you know, you keep an eye on that. I think what's happening in some cases right now, part of it might be the cost of something, the tickets, but it's also the economy. When you're paying $5 a gallon, $4.50 a gallon of gas, $6 diesel, price of, you know, I'm just monitoring the economy because I get worried about that, right? 2008, there was a crash in the economy. You guys paid a shit ton in escrow that, you know, you weren't expecting to pay at the beginning of the season. You know, and as a former mayor or a legislator, I mean, I used to watch that all the time. You know, you watch the economy because you have revenue coming in. Things are good. Revenue starts coming in, slows down. There's a problem. So we got to keep an eye on the revenue, too. On the, not the revenue, on what's happening in the world. You know, the Canadian dollar, is it high, is it low? What's going on with that? The tariffs are causing a headache for us, too. You have fans that probably aren't coming down to, going down to Vegas, not going to Detroit, they're not going to Buffalo as often as they might have because they're pissed off because, you know, the current administration is criticizing the country of Canada. I mean, you got to watch that stuff. I mean, so, you know, but I think we have to, you know, we watch that. If there was, if it came, if something came up that I thought was need to be a dress, I would, I bring it up. So what one that I think definitely needs a dress and I'm speaking for the fans here and this might, you guys might have no say over this, but the blackout, the blackouts on TV, like we're hearing from our fan base, like basically begging, please bring it up where at some point, like, you know, you got, you got a sports set package, but you got to buy something else to get a Leafs game. And it's, it's turned into something where you just can't see games where you should be able to. And is that something that ever gets discussed or is that all on the league side? That's on the league side. But it's something I absolutely will bring out. I mean, I remember being a kid being a Patriots fan and when the Patriots were home, they weren't on TV. They were that bad. Cause they weren't selling out, right? They were, they were that bad. I mean, they were awful and the Bruins always sold out, you know, channel 38 Red Sox. When I was a kid, I watched them a little bit, but it was always football and baseball and hockey. Hockey was always on. And then, and then the Patriots for years before Brady, before Bledsoe, they were, they were terrible at home and they were terrible in general, but no, it's something that's something I would, I'll look into. Cause I know that I, I knew Chicago blacked out, but I think they changed that. I'm not sure this is before I came here. Let me check into that one. Marty, did you shit a brick when Connor McDavid signed that two year deal? That. Okay. So before you answer, I was going to ask like every player's within his own right to sign what you, what they want. But as the head of is your job, it's like, Oh shit. Like, like pay like team friendly deals are bad news for you guys. Listen, the players, the players can do what they want. Leo Carlson, when they signed that offer, she would Philadelphia that corrected the world. Yeah, exactly. There you go. I was going to ask you, you mentioned it, the growth of the game. And obviously you think of kids and the growth of game watching games, but for me, it's making it affordable. Like, is there any talks with, you know, you guys, the league, whatever it is of making the sport more affordable to get more kids involved, to get inner city kids involved, stuff like that. That's something I think about a lot. You know, you know, this Keith, I did a lot. I do a lot of work with, and when I was the state rep mayor and stuff, same as healthy and Charlestown, all those places. And, you know, it's, it becomes unaffordable now with all these elite teams and, and, you know, practices and getting four-year-olds on ice, paying thousand dollars to skate for four weeks in a row. It's like crazy. You know, the problem is obviously is, is the, the sport itself. You need, you need to have an arena. You need to have good supports. We have the goals and dreams program. You guys are all part of that. We're all part of that back in your day, you know, by equipment, trying to think about it. Is there a way we can do more out of that program? Is there more we can do with the IGF fund? uh industry growth fund with the league we're 50 50 partners in that and also uh the learn to learn to skate programs and all that stuff they have we have to something has to happen because you're seeing the pool of players uh kind of shrinking a little bit after a certain age because it gets too expensive so we do have to figure out how do we get more and more kids how we allow more and more kids have longer longer 10 years in ice hockey uh as they get older you know when they're all like five six they played on door they played on divine rink and there's a ton of them playing and at some point you know the elite teams come in oh we want your kid to play for us it's going to cost us we got to figure that out because it will hurt the sport launcher and we won't have enough kids playing in it um and i think the same in canada i think the same thing's going on in canada it's expensive it always has been you guys all went through junior my little um peewee hockey i mean it was expensive back then and that was a few years ago i was just gonna as a former player i wanted to say thank you for the work you guys did in helping out the alumni and working with them and i think that's a big part of what you guys have accomplished there like what was what was that like and kind of negotiating that side of it with gary i'm sure he was more receptive to it than maybe in the past and how do you guys look to grow that and continue to help former players because the the money these guys are making now is a lot different than it was back then and unfortunately when some of these guys retire and you know they lose their livelihood and they don't have much of an educational background or nothing much to fall back on and they they really only know one thing and that's hockey they struggle and it's it's been hard to see but it's obviously awesome that you guys are taking the right steps and and what you guys have established with the alumni yeah when glenn when glenn when i started the job glenn we went to lunch me and glenn talked about it and i told them my philosophy you know i come out of the labor movement and all the contracts that all the benefits that people in the building trades have today all the health care pension annuity all the stuff in the health that was all built off the people that came before now my father wasn't he he was the in the union when when they knew he came but he when he started it was it was so low the money we build off the people before us and it's it's about building off of what the generation before so when glenn came to me i said i'm very open to helping the alums we started a good relationship he had a meeting in boston he thought he was sandbagging he brought bobby or and ray bork and with me to meet i know them both and they both took my side in the meeting so it was great um but my relationship with glenn has been great and when this came up in negotiations there was no hesitation you know we we all agreed to it right away and we all agreed to doing this and you know there's the pa the players those should the players out of the association fund the retirees in a lot of ways and the league does now as well and i think this is the beginning the better we do the more we can help them and you know i've heard the stories of old retired players that that have nothing right now and those are the quite honestly the guys that i watched growing up playing and when you he has somebody's living in a nursing home has no not the doesn't have a part to piss in and they they won five sports the only cups it's that and it's kind of like so we we owe it to the player the retired players to support them uh the current players that are retiring the health care is great pension now is great thanks to you guys and the generation that came before these young kids coming in now so there's a pension there's a lot of opportunity now uh so but the guys before i didn't have that so we we have to support them uh because the game is great because you guys built off what they did and this generation is playing now is building off what you did it's weird because it feels like the new cba was just just signed basically but after this year there's three more seasons now are you starting to talk to to gary like a year from now or even sooner because i imagine the planning beforehand takes a lot and it seems so far away but all of a sudden you blink and and there's a year before the cba ends so like yeah when a contract when the contract ends you sign a new contract the next negotiation internally should start the next day yeah so you you start to think about what what are some of the things you have to do and you know you don't have the formal conversations but you start thinking about does this contract work what we did is it okay did we did we do something we shouldn't have done and we kind of look at look at all sides and we think about what you know are they happy with what they did do they want to change something in it so i think the formal conversation probably won't start for you know two and a half years as far as how we change it but we did you know if something popped in the meantime that was you know detrimental to the game of hockey and the players we would bring it up now to talk about it but i don't know if we're going to be able to do that in the future probably i'd say a year out we start negotiating again um you know i'm not they're not every negotiation is different uh this one was was like i said six guys in a room talked about it and got it done in in like two months um who knows what the next one's going to be you don't know what the situation who are the same players at the table you have different people at the table what are going to be economics what are going to be the challenges anything can happen overnight and change overnight bob good now is listening to this like oh yeah he's shitting his shit wait what hey uh okay you have to answer this question if you could reopen the contract what would be one thing where you're like god i wish i would have got that there's not a lot to be honest yeah i'm telling ted's serious like there's not a lot i would say i mean i i felt i felt pretty good when this contract was over and you know we've gone around and talked to the players about it and that i think they feel pretty good about it too there's not a lot i would change in in through negotiations you think gary would want to redo on something like where do you think you got him and you're like there might be there might be a few things that that the team might not be happy about you know we had we had a four game pre-season 13 day training camp no fitness testing so you can figure it out beautiful what about the dress code i think that the dress codes become a bit of a joke i mean gary's certainly no problem with it i think some teams still want players to wear suits going into the arena if a player wants to wear a suit they can wear a suit but they they shouldn't no one should be forced but with the last lead that does i get that i get the whole the image around it but it's also like there's an opportunity for our players to to to part of this too is players expressing who they really are so when you're talking about selling the amahaki you want to fans fans will click on get clicks on the instagram to see like who what's willie neal and they're really like oh what's austin matt usually like oh what's pasta really like or whoever it might be in the celebrini the younger guys do it well i mean that's part of the game when you look at basketball you know a lot of people watch basketball and they're like you know a lot of people watch basketball and they're like you know a lot of people watch a lot of people watch basketball but more people follow the athletes just on instagram and social media and then they buy their shirts like i don't think we're at that point yet but we want to get to the point where people are falling they they like a player or they like a team or whatever it might be we we got to do that more and more of that so i think the dress code small small thing but i think that that allows players to express who they are with their personality coming into the arena is i don't care about the dress code coming in i don't because they're they're to me the dress code is the uniform you're on the ice but it's the it's the coaches if these some of these nba coaches with their jumpsuits like if we ever had coaches not in suits and ties then i'd have a problem yeah yeah they wouldn't never though well that's what you probably said about the nba at one point now coaches look like they're going to work out no didn't torts used to wear didn't torts used to wear just like a sweater yeah sweater like a q-zip yeah yeah but he had a tie on underneath oh he did yeah who's fashion do you like the most marty who are you following on instagram no i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know nobody i know i only say because i have it on my thing i click forever now i see you on there a lot i saw you guys golfing up so long guys that's pretty entertaining yeah you should put in the cba that i never put me in a golf cart with milsy again well all the hot the street hockey game was pretty entertaining too yeah that was fun street hockey you did the tournament you did we need a collective cameo appearance and i saw kevin he wasn't playing but i saw his head there yep he was there um a team we need drug testing for yans's team they're all they're okay they're all union guys they're all union guys they're all union guys so marty would never have to say anything bad about them um i was just wondering uh the the draft in the lottery pick like i feel like every year right yeah during the lottery there's always you know people pissed off about it and obviously it's in there so teams aren't tanking and trying to get the first overall pick but is there ever any conversations about maybe changing it up or doing something different because it just seems like such a crap shoot no i i mean again i wasn't here for that but i think when they when they started the bouncing ball stadium basketball they did it because teams were tanking to come in last place and and they didn't want that and now they have the balls all jumping around there and you know this year was kind of i think toronto finished fifth right and they kept the number one pick so um i don't know if it's luck of the bounce luck of the luck of the draw but i'm sure that that's an that's an issue teams should probably bring up to the league saying we got a problem with this we finished last two years in a row and we get the second pick one year and third pick another year that doesn't give us an advantage uh knowing gary the way you do what are the chances at some point someday you think we'd be allowed to maybe get like 10 highlights we could use to break down goals do you think they'd ever they'd ever give us a little love and i'm gonna stop geek keeping the clips i'll ask him next time i see him okay perfect is there anything that players have maybe come to you and is a worry and i guess that's kind of the same question as biz on a redo but or our players just seem to be pretty happy and content right now with where everything's at oh i think players are generally happy i think they're curious on you know the salary cap a couple players have asked us how does it impact teams the the lower tier teams that that you know haven't won in a while and and what how do they spend after the cap and are they are they going to be okay financially players are concerned about that um you know they keep an eye on that uh certainly players don't want to pay us for again uh at least the players that have been around for a long time i don't blame players and that they very clear on that um and that's function of of revenue coming into the league and hrr coming in and and and putting the salary cap up right and you know last couple years money's going to go back to the players for the first time i think one other time since the salary cap started that happened um so last couple years money's gonna go back to the players which is great you just want to keep that south you want to keep that escrow at as close to zero as possible which means like you know one percent escrow which i don't want to see again but if we do one two percent escrow on the escrow side and one two chop up on the other side you know they're kind of they're not worried about it but but they you know they're curious about it i think players uh i think like like all of us right now players are trying to figure out this new world of higher salary cap contracts more money in the system how it impacts them and their family your players that have signed long-term deals that won't have an opportunity to get into the market for a few years and the cap's still going up and your players that are coming up free agency this year next year and the year after that like whoa this is great um so i think i think they're trying to figure all that stuff out i mean and i think teams are too listen this is a big change to the system uh you know you've had like one or two million dollar increases in salary cap for a decade um and now all of a sudden you're jumping 10 million dollars seven million dollars 10 million dollars a year that's a big jump and try to figure try to figure that out teams are trying to figure that out wait i can imagine the fall meetings are a little different now than they were when we were playing they got at each other they got surf and turf now we had soggy subs like it's a little different marty do you think that uh julian breeze boss should have took kucherov out to dinner before he fucked him something something something's wrong yeah i don't know what happened there but we'll see okay um this has been awesome you were a you are or were a bruins season ticket holder i was a bruins ticket holder so that was your team growing up are you not allowed to have any type of i don't have a team anymore i don't know no team either me neither yeah we're on the playoffs on on tnt he is cheating me no this year this year oh real yeah no more team no i'm neutral i'm like you buddy i'm i'm i'm indifferent it's kind of you gotta be careful when i talk about boston i'm constantly talking about boston i got like you know boston is a city not necessarily as a team you're not as broken on the inside as business you guys are different neutral he's just no but it was almost broken because when i was the mayor in a you know patriots won two superbowls red sox won two world series i had five parades there in 2019 i was ready to go the duck bolts all lined up in game seven boston garden st louis broke broke the bruin broke boston's heart so that would have been my one of my parades my last one didn't happen in 2011 as a state rep so it didn't really matter then me and menino got that credit hey chicklets fans we're going to take a quick break for a message lawyer and i'm assuming you're the first head of the pa not to be a lawyer like has there is there anything that maybe that helps or is there anything that like that might hurt or you don't need a lawyer to run a play association you need a lawyer to work in the player association and we have a couple great lawyers at john gerber's general counsel don zavo's general counsel for a long time when you guys were there now he's special assistant to me so you don't need a lawyer to run and i think you know i don't know it's i don't want to discredit lawyers because they have a lot of friends that are lawyers but i just think you know at this moment in time having having a union person there with a pro business background is important you know um you understand the business side of it and the growth side of it but you also understand you the basic my basic job my job my my first job is to represent the players as the head of the union that's my first job so it's like you can't forget that and not saying lawyers do but i think that you know that that's my first fundamental job and you know when i went for the job i don't know if the players were looking for a lawyer or not but i don't think they were i think they were looking for somebody different because they had you know bob good now before dawn and and then um you know a couple people before that but i think they were looking for like somebody different and when i came on board when i was interviewed they saw a person that was um that was a labor leader at one point in his career so they they kind of draw to that marty i've dated a few lawyers i think they made the right decision yeah they just want to argue thanks but yeah there's a lot of argument going on what's the labor guy to you want to argue what's a different um i got one last one here um of all the interactions with all the players that you've talked to who would you say is the the most articulate smartest and who you would want to in the future be a part of like being at the table for the players that's a great question you're welcome there's a couple of guys that there's more than a handful of guys that are really into this thing i mean he's there now but when i first met colin closely kind of he was one of the guys that was on the search committee and like you just you just knew like there was something else for that guy and when when when he when he retired we had had ron had a conversation i had a conversation about coming to work for the pa and like you know i think colin could have gone on and done with a team or something else and i'm grateful that we have now i'm not ever going to hold him back if he wants to go work for a team somebody down the road i wish him well but you know somebody like him he was great he was right in the middle of it i think you have uh you know we have some young guys that ask a lot of questions you know matthew kachuk knows the business inside and out he's a guy that just like he's dialed in pretty well in this thing zach hyman's another one that's dialed in they ask the questions you can just tell the questions a little different than what other people ask but all but when you get them on a one you know we have our dinner we do the dinner and then after we're done talking uh they're eating and we go around the table talk to them and like every single player from the guy who's brand new to been there for a long time and they're like oh my god i'm not going to do that again i'm not going 15 years they all ask a ton of questions which i love seeing that means there's interest in the union there's interest in the pa and they have interest in their careers it's not just they're coming and listening and leaving that's not how it works here they all they all pay attention and they all ask questions afterwards i was just going to ask you about the larkin situation is there a point in time where like the pa has to get involved or is this just a player and team situation yeah it's really just a player all these situations whether it was hellebark or next i mean or brady and brady uh you know it's it's really between the player the team and the in in in the in the uh agent but you know we're there for support any support we have to bring give a player obviously we're going to support them a thousand percent it's their right to do whatever but like we can't i mean i can't make a call to a team and say you should trade for this guy or you know what's going on to a team you shouldn't be treating the guy this way i can't do that when you get to this situation so you just kind of it's it's their it's their thing they do it but we're there to support anyway if they're not going to do it they're not going to do it if the player wants us we're there on the percent i actually thought of one last one before we let you go it thinks i think that it's been a hell of a run for gary i think he's what over 30 years now he's done such a tremendous job and growing the game and and helping the league out despite maybe some argues with players in the past and calling you an idiot and calling me an idiot uh who do you think takes his job when he retired i don't know it's hard to say i mean i think there's a lot of rumors of what's going to happen there that's again a decision the boys got to make i the players could have gone with a player they could have gone with somebody they knew and they decided to go a different route and go outside for a search uh when you look at what's happened in in obviously baseball different situation uh when 20 o'clock had to leave they kept it internal probably because of of you know they're into a negotiation basketball did a search football did a search football one with a football former nfl player so i think that you know that's really going to be interesting what the owners do there you have a lot of older owners have been there for a while or new owners that are in now and i'm sure that'll be an interesting dialogue conversation we'll have at some point about what what succession might be there um you know i've you know i've talked to gary briefly about stuff like that you know he doesn't doesn't engage that but i said to him you know it's been interesting it's been good working with him for me i mean i know there's been histories of periods that not every pa person can say that head can say that because when you go to a lockout a strike in 92 uh lockouts and you know all the lockouts i mean that that that that causes a lot of deep feeling that isn't quickly forgiven awesome this has been great thank you so much we appreciate it very much um yeah things are good right now for the players oh yeah it's really kind of flipped in the past little while here to guys are making a lot of money now and that's great so we appreciate you hopping on and thank you very much thanks right thank you guys thanks marty appreciate it bye guys thank you very much to marty walsh nhlpa in a really good spot right now um we appreciate him coming on um i want to send our best wishes to jerome aginla yeah um very tough story came out like he he's back and some health issues um so he had a hip replacement and apparently like the the metal toxins from it possibly is the issue and on what he's he's trying to figure out basically what's going on where sometimes i guess it could get in the bloodstream and that's just scary i saw a clip where he's his son's training he's helping him out and some a flames fan had tweeted like i hope again was okay because you could tell he was his voice sounded a little different he looked pretty thin and and then after that i believe he was maybe asked about it or the article was released in which he said he's he's trying to figure out what's going on so that's like you know an all-time great in the game a guy who's such a warrior to see him kind of look a little frail and sound a little different it was scary so we want to send our best wishes to him excuse me um no yeah like so his i believe his comments were it's just something going on neurologically that they can't figure out right now yes and that could be a possibility yeah and and like uh i don't like i'd never heard of it like nobody had mentioned it to me and then that video that came out yeah that was the first time i heard anything you were almost like oh maybe the like maybe the audio is off or something like that because like you think that something like that would have been like brought up already and they wouldn't just have them in like a normal like working out with a prospect video in order to break it but i guess when they put that out there was kind of no way to hide it or work around it and they had to kind of release a statement he had to say yeah i got something going on everybody when they saw that like we were sending it around being like oh no like yeah i i sent it to the group i said oh shit like this is because you could tell you could just you could tell so we're thinking of it yeah um and fuck man like he like he's obviously still got a lot going on he's helping develop and raise his kid who's a a tremendous nhl prospect he's helping with uh uh as assistant general general manager the the um calgary flame so fuck man within all the all the stuff he's doing he's helping with the uh the the the the the the i know he's got a lot of horsepower but hopefully he's getting some time to himself and i think people were wondering what did they do recently for calgary did they bring they brought back the team that went to the finals i think that was the night you saw like daryl have his arm around call me yeah they were like where's iggy and this explains it oh that's yeah people were like what's going why isn't he around and so that kind of um is an explanation for all of it so we're thinking of him um also shout out matthew schaefer he he opened up i think it's a wing in a hospital it's really cool it's a room for kids whose parents are going through treatments through cancer so they have like bubble hockey video games tvs games for all these kids because you know these chemo sessions are long right so so these kids have to spend the full day at the hospital so it's uh and he named it in honor of his mom which is pretty cool yeah this kid i i know we've talked about his game and then from the first time we interviewed him very lucky as an nhl fan as we are as all people are to have a guy like this in the league like forget his game forget his game forget how amazing he's gonna be he just seems like an incredible person so i'm really happy for islanders fans that is that is when you get the first overall pick and you're like oh my god right some years it's a little different and a guy like this not just the on ice product it's um that's a huge win for the islanders so and then shout out um two more things uh cruise armstrong are are kind of the chicklets son the son right the son of chicklets the hockey playing son of chicklets signed with the uh swift current broncos i believe yes it is and so he's still playing i think triple a u18 but this is now for next season or maybe he gets called up at some point this year i don't know how that works so army was all fired up and i saw murr stayed at army's house in pittsburgh on wednesday night because murrell's is going to be on the broadcast the alt cast for the penguins bruins tonight and um he stayed at the house in army there was no nhl on the tv it was just cruises game out in saskatchewan so that's you know you know crazy hockey dad he's not missing a game so shout out cruz shout out cruz and finally we have some merch coming on sale oh i thought we were gonna have to talk about the chase and goals it's the best it's my favorite storyline i feel horrible but i said this before they went on their first one elio and murr they're traveling north america chasing goals going to games betting the over chasing goal chasing goal keith has called it they will not win one of those now apparently the next one they're going to win one of those they're going to win one of those they're going to win one of those going to the barstool chicago office sitting in the gambling cave and watching every game and possibly betting every over that could be a win because they're not in the building any building they're in that's an under that's an under to the point where like now like i haven't done it because i'm i don't want to be that guy but like i'm probably betting the under the next time they're in the building every time picks the games because they picked pittsburgh on the last one against i it was one nothing after the first first game of the year was bruins versus rangers the two best goalies in the nh they had to do tuesday nights that was part of it now tuesday thursday saturday are the slates there's plenty of games i don't and then they had to pick every one prior to the beginning of the season so it's not like they can even see a team that's lighting it up and go two weeks later like they're already locked in i thought you would look and see if new jersey and edmonton's playing against each other on the slate that you're going to that tuesday game rather than vegas pittsburgh and that would have gone over because i think it ended four four three three plus three equals seven but you like money and you would pick the right one yeah so the chasing goals storyline is just it's amazing i mean they're cruising into these games they got like four or five ice people with them every time and they're seeing some of the most boring games the nhl's ever put out so incredible classic mer um but what i was gonna say before that was 10 year 10 year chiclets merch so we're on year 10 now um right here let me see this so spitting chiclets with a 10 there and the chiclets logo photo 10 years um and we have we have some awesome other merch coming up some sandbagger merch with rollback will be coming up getting ready for black friday and and christmas time and so everyone if if you want to support we got the 10 year t-shirts we got uh sandbagger stuff coming out before we end it did you have a story about sending a text that you weren't supposed to send i not that i can remember i was trying to think do you no i don't i i told the one about when i i posted the like happy new year with the girl snorting the lines and i posted it to twitter like 15 times yeah that was tough that was but that was legit an accident because my phone was in my pocket yeah and didn't you say like because it went so many times you weren't you able to say that yes i got hacked yeah i got hacked honk like macaroons and you had a great night so um shout out uh all you guys listening thank you so much uh we are leaving immediately from here to a golf course to play the kachuks in a sandbagger so this is one we gotta have this one this this to me this is this is personal to me with matthew like i'm going to represent the edmonton oilers and every putt i make if i make any there will be pink pony club playing now did they make fun of us and sing that song over and over and over after they beat us for the second straight year yes so i gotta get that song back in the mixer maybe i don't because now the cock's here and there's no pink pony club being played in that locker room but uh this is a big one coming up so let's go get a dub let's get it all right love you guys have a great weekend it won't happen it won't happen it won't happen again a bad habit worth breaking but it's taking time and i know you don't let it it's gonna happen it's gonna happen again you
