One other guy threw the glass near the kitchen. I ended up going later on in the week. To a restaurant called Nightingale that my buddy David Hawksworth owns. That Kevin BX had put me in touch with. And sure enough, I walked in. Those two guys from Thunder Bay were there again. Same two guys sitting right there as soon as I walked in. So, we've been getting the pinkies up attacks going quite a bit through North America. What province are we in or not in? Because I get messages, I wish we could still be here. But where is it in Canada? I think maybe it's in Quebec right now. And then maybe one of the other places. Maybe it's in another province because the tariffs took it away. vegas two nights see you later like don't want to see you for another year so he goes there for like eight nine days i don't even think they had a ticket or anything planned and sure enough they end up getting like brought around they're in this box that box tickets to this they're at ella langley all of a sudden he's meeting her backstage meeting this guy backstage then he flies all the way um i think he went back to toronto he was there less than 24 hours and then off to pei prince edward island go to see your kids he's like no i just had to do some laundry didn't even talk he just had to do no his wife had to do it imagine doing his laundry oh just g strings and fucking half half crop tops and then off the pi and then he went from pi right over to to bc and he i think he was sleeping on memes his buddy's couch for a few days and then of course over to jeff's birthday uh which was a riot obviously a lot of people like there was like 140 people that ended up showing up he did it at a um he been to a concert before the arkells big canadian band i think they got like 220 people in for the arkells um uh concert and he went and saw it so he's like oh this is a cool venue it's an old strip club it used to be a supper club turned into strip club it's a pretty clean strip club on the inside surprisingly and then he got a dj and then like i said it was just booked out for all of us and our friends 140 of us so everybody showed up it was a great time and uh celebrated uh celebrated him in style man well well deserved did you give a speech kind of just like describing how good of a guy no jeff jeff wrote the speech jeff gave it to himself no so we had so you got to keep in mind like all the people there like jeff went to like high school with so they know jeff even more so than i do uh so i like i'm not a big speech guy i called jeff obviously beforehand like and and always tell him how appreciative i am of him and like how much i love him um obviously like took care of the dj like helped him out and said hey happy birthday i don't know do you think that's weird that i didn't give him a speech no no i i was gonna be surprised if you did but i thought the moment might have just kind of overtaken you and you're like i just want to address everyone i thought your i thought your only involvement was the sign the sign just said if you know jeff come in yeah that was well actually no so he thought of that himself or something and so they put that up on the billboard out front and they put that up on the billboard out front and they then my idea was to put come as know uh north of the border so now i'm in victoria for the basically the rest of summer and uh yeah i'm excited to just kind of get some downtime here yans i got to ship your golf clubs back to you that'll happen at some point that might take a couple what do you mean why do you have his golf clubs well i took his golf clubs when we landed in boston so that he didn't have to then bring him to baltimore where he was going so you don't have to lug him around baltimore you know so i was like i'll take him home now part of that was shipping it to him that was that was that was eight days ago it's one of those things where you just got to do it right like i you have a problem of like i gotta do this well why haven't i done it call jeff no reason you just have to bring them to wallaston like this guy is a chicago blackhawk he's a hall of famer he's the greatest american hockey player ever and he's going back to one of the best markets we have in i will say this didn't see him make an eight million a year bravo to him and his agent but he's back on the hawks biz do you think that's like a cross a crosby thing he just wanted the 88 because uh because of his jersey number like rumors aren't going anywhere it's not going to change now it's going to get worse so my understanding is he was offered jack eichel's contract so i don't know for a guy who's had as much much success as he's had in dallas a place where you're playing with no state tax a team that's going to be good like who whoever leaves dallas nobody really leaves dallas no that people don't want to leave there they love playing there and eichel's deal if you're not it's eight years 108 million so like 13 and i really want if you really wanted to be there he was offered that deal i don't get that and no no problem and he was offered a deal for 15 million from seattle okay well you don't want to go there and you don't want to play there and now you're being offered essentially with when that that tax implication comes in at 2028 in seattle your base you would be making around the same amount of money as you would signing an eight times 13 and a half in dallas so i don't know if this guy just wants to hit the absolute top spot of the market but how oftentimes do you get paid like the top of the market and get to decide where you're going to get the play as far as one of the best locations in the nhl like you're also trying to win so you're trying to maybe leave a little bit more on the table for other guys on the team or for more signings to come i think it's fucking crazy if he was offered that deal and he didn't sign it for for for for what for what are we talking here and now he signs a one-year deal he becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year if i'm not mistaken correct so yeah all the control back to him on where he can go my understanding also is they had a few uh one or two other trades for him to even go places but he's not willing to go and sign there either so it seems like he's a pretty it's not very easy to keep him happy right now i think basically what he's telling them is he wants essentially what he was offered in seattle but when you when you're playing on a team like dallas in a market like that you're not going to be able to sign a free agent at the end of the year if i'm not mistaken correct i don't think you i don't think he should be getting paid 15 fucking million dollars did you guys see jeff merrick's report too he reported that uh he knows for a fact that some stars players are pretty pissed about the whole thing how this whole thing was handled by by robertson yeah they should go too well well for this year he kind of like saved them money a little bit he's only making 12 okay now the noise doesn't go away of like is robertson getting traded robertson getting traded i i just think i don't think he could do that he could do that he could come out and be like i really want to play in dallas anymore if that deal was seven-year deal for 18 as ufa like if you're looking to get every single cent out of this thing i could never chirp somebody for that but you can't say you you really want to be in dallas that bad but like biz said like he you could do that in a seattle you could do that in a you know winnipeg or something like that but the teams that he's gonna want to go to are they gonna be able to pay him that money that's yes without knowing where he really wants to be i don't know but dude he is one of the guys that actually has the numbers come to be a ufa to be able to be like i'm getting max payment from someone yeah is it going to be a good team i don't know what great teams out there will have that money i mean i guess the cap is going up so everyone has a little bit more i could see a guy playing on a team that's kind of like you know middle pack maybe missing playoffs who's lighting it up like that wanting to eventually play it out like this where he can go to a good team and maybe even in some case take a discount but to be on a team who i would say that over the last like three four years every dallas has probably been in everybody's top six top seven teams right so if you're looking to win so you're essentially if jack eichel just signed that deal you're looking at top market money and you get to play in dallas where obviously he's comfortable and loves because he's had that much success he's gotten to play with unreal guys by the way which if you look across their team like like hay skin and fucking what's he making like eight eight million right so if you're hay skin and you're saying fuck buddy like i'm making eight and you won't even take like close to double what i'm making here like what the fuck's going on or at least one and a half and then you got you i mean what's rupe hints make he makes fucking peanuts too you got miko rontan who i i think everybody could agree stanley cup champion probably a better body of work than what he has eight times 12 so he's going to be paid a million and a half dollars more than ratan and then all of a sudden man they're pretty locked up on the wings man that's a pretty strong strong group and if you're on that team and g said that merrick said a few guys aren't happy about it like maverick bork is this up-and-coming player for their team and you know he's he's he's done a lot for their group like obviously he was due to get a raise but he's not going to be able to but with the uncertainty of what's going on with robertson all of a sudden like they can't commit to him to wait to see what goes on with him and then all of a sudden finally they signed a deal and he gets he's like i'll commit to you guys for one year it's like we just lost a valuable player that could have helped us win here because like not only are you being greedy about it but you don't even want to lock in long term so it's the thing is that so hints um heskin and wyatt johnson all make 8.4 and then rontan and 12 it's like dude you did 13 and a half like we're all kind of like if they're all pulling on the same rope here which by the way like this this is how it goes some guys are are more into just earning every single dollar they can but if you look at it from robertson's side okay like you see all right well look at my numbers compared to conor bedard's yes he's younger he just got 15 a year like i'm not taking less than that okay then you might have to play in a place like you might have to play on a team that would do anything for a stud and pay whatever you want but you're not going to be on a very good team whereas dallas I think everyone would be shocked if they weren't in the mix again come come the playoffs this year like they just have a great roster they got a great goalie they have an awesome thing there it's a great city to play in so yeah it's surprising just odd if he did get offered that that's crazy and like from what I've heard is like he got they played hardball with him on his contract last time he was trying to get everything trying to get back at them maybe a little bit but it's like dude at what point or both sides have to win unless you want to go somewhere else he should just say okay just trade me it doesn't matter where but like you have to either play ball with the team if you really want to be there or fucking leave yep um another signing this one happy for this guy Massachusetts guy John Marino the Utah the Utah Mammoth boom 6.75 a year for an eight-year deal so what was that over 50 million dollars million I was like do you guys know him I don't know over to bu because we're all kind of living in the city so skate there after we'll skate there a little bit of warrior with some of the bees guys or you know go down to there you go to up to wuber and you kind of go like a little bit outside the city okay it's crazy how many guys like when we started there was what five of maybe some ahl guys but not the ton of guys now well like your group there's so many boston guys around your skates and workouts must be unreal yeah so will smith said they live together in the summer center of the sharks what and i go what do you got he's like well he's like we are um defending champs of a co-ed softball league hell yeah we are the south one the champs of the south of course it's co-ed too i'm like oh shocker yeah shocker they got old who's pitching team bonding it is it is actually a blast because i'm in i'm in another one i'm actually double co-defending i'm in one and hang a mass where our name's bank street um and we play with like it's like let's say 15 teams all like kids from hang them or like outside of hang them every like different year like this is the last year we can do this we're aging out yeah yeah so we won it last year and then smitty heard that he was like we got to do one in south dean it actually has been a blast we won it last year it was pretty pretty fun and we're back again this year we're one and one we lost our first game so i know um why are you aging out i don't know the other of the other one there's just younger yeah it's just my high school kid it's like all right i'm the nhl now yeah planning it's a hang them high freshman that played for the football team mcconaughey and uh and uh dazed and confused but spinny said you gotta ask him about our pickleball battle so you two are just like head to head i know he said that he was gonna bring this up i'll get i'll give him his you're getting drummed by him aren't you i got demolished like and i would say i'm pretty athletic guy like i'm you know i grew up playing every sport and like that's what we do in our free time it's like all right you want to go play hoops perfect you want to go play softball pickleball pickleball he shelled me like i didn't get a point the first game we played and then i was like all right now i'm like sweating out there i'm running back and forth and you're rattled yeah i was rattled he's a great small area game buddy i love i love i absolutely love it and i suck at tennis like i can't i can't get the top spin on it so my ball goes into two or two isn't a workout no one-on-one you're not always a bagging yeah at one point keith's brother brian and i i think we went like 15 days in a row like three out of five sets games to 11 like good workouts your heart rate gets going too nice because you're doing the quick feet yeah it's like you're doing the ladder drill but you're not having to think about it why are you laughing you don't do the ladder anymore no is that not one of the workouts but i don't know if i would say pickleball is like the ladder well because you're because you're kind of like going like this the whole time yeah yeah quick feet quick feet quick feet quick feet exactly i used to love the ladder drill i used to have quick feet surprisingly i bet you did i was a d-man work in the corners mostly and then they switched me to forward and then i had to go all up and then you had to get on the ladder a lot smitty drives me nuts though because he is one of those kids that's just very good at everything oh no you're playing golf with them he's smack i'm like okay enough i did dust him in golf last week you got him all right good good you guys uh like do you guys have a group text going where when he's walking in with these like these outfits and all these girls are commenting all the time you guys just give it to him not really like i don't give it to him much i mean he's got his he's got his stuff figured out a little bit well you know what happened that woman who did the video of him in celebrini yeah he's like yeah after that it got a little insane oh and then he was like now practices at san jose there's like hundreds of girls with their practices they call it the aquarium because of that show no i'm fucking serious man really well not because of the shark that would make sense too but that because of that show yeah fucking all the birds it is insane and it's it's constant it's constant are you guys the same age i'm uh two years old um um god i don't even know when we got tight it was just one summer and he was we were skating together and came buddies yeah became but not at not at ntdp together either no he was the year i left so he was actually no yeah i was in michigan by the time he was there um my family kind of knew his parents because his mom went out with him to michigan and my mom did the same uh and i kind of like knew of him and then probably like two three years ago we started like skating together in the summers working out kind of had a good time together um and then i think i started i used to live with berard in the summers uh the guys with the rangers i kind of got down and then he went back to i like living with someone and smitty kind of needed someone to live with in boston so it worked out well what is the routine like in the summer because we talk a lot how guys are on their skates all all summer we never did that are you skating now pretty constantly or no not yet no okay more like my biggest thing is you know getting bigger and so for me like going on the ice at this point probably wouldn't be the smartest thing for me at least but it's different for every guy like uh for me it's like all weight room until probably next week and then i'll get back on the ice and start doing like two three times a week okay um yeah if you're getting on like like july's early oh for sure we were i just said that was one of the things i regretted the most is i wish i would have just not even to like bag myself and conditioning it was more about just staying on your edges less ladder more skates that's the problem man i was going too hard on the ladder drill man yeah well i did that last summer too we're like i went to worlds and then by the time i was back everyone's already skating and i was like oh fuck i gotta yeah i gotta skate now because everyone everyone in the gym skating so i didn't really have that much time off last summer but you won the gold but we won yeah so that was sweet so yeah i was giving take but then this summer i was like all right i'm gonna take some time off who were you playing with over there i played with smitty a little bit uh i was i was with smitty and gautier a little bit and then i was with thommer and frankie nazar so you got to win it yeah i was on the ice though when we won it but yeah we won though right yeah that must have been such a cool experience first time in like 80 years we also had a great squad like yeah that team was loaded fun it looked fun group going out yeah that's where was that we were in denmark herning denmark in the middle of nowhere there was like one bar i should have a funny one from that um but one of the most like demoralizing moments of all time we just are in the round of the world and we're like oh my god we're in the round of the world and we're like oh robin we were playing pretty well too and we got shelled by switzerland on a back-to-back we played them you would have thought these guys were wayne gretzky out there skating around it was like the russians in a switzerland jersey unbelievable i was like what is we were all like what is going on and so we finished the game and like you know i don't think we had anything the next day so we were like all right we're gonna go center of town and eat some food and have a couple beers i don't know what we're going to do we're going to eat dinner we're going to eat dinner i don't know what we're going to do we're going to eat dinner we're going to eat dinner we're going to eat dinner every single switzerland fan that was in denmark was in on this street and they started they all stood up we walked right through the middle all of them they all stood up and started like doing this chant it was like we had basically laughing at you it was so embarrassing oh i think i went home after that they sent me home i was like i gotta go to bed yeah then we played them in the finals okay all right so yeah payback yeah we got a little payback there but yeah it was it was a great time i've got a little payback there but yeah it was it was a great time i've got a little i would definitely go back yeah this year just kind of didn't feel it yeah this year just wasn't yeah i just wanted to get home and train yeah that was kind of the biggest thing for me this summer was like i gotta get bigger you know you look at a lot of you know sentiment around the league you know something they're they're bigger they're stronger guys that helps them with you know in the corners and draws you know just like shutting down other guys as well so that was for me that's kind of like my next it's it's a fine line though because you're trying to like gain weight and gain size but yet the game it seems like year over year it just keeps getting faster and faster so how do you kind of find that balance like what do you do for workouts and how are you uh how do you how do you feel that you're like kind of retaining the weight yeah it's just like putting on more muscle it's not really like i don't want like a belly you know no not like no but yeah it's just like putting on more muscle and i do think that for myself as well like putting on more muscle yeah it's going to give me more weight but also it's going to make me faster right we're having more muscle in my legs and my butt like those areas are just they're going to help my skating as well so for me it's kind of which is your strength already which is one of my strengths so kind of a double-edged sword that's why i was like i can't i can't go this year and kind of just went right back home and just got in the weight room so what do you like what are you up like five ten pounds already i lose a lot during the year so i'm probably up like eight to ten already wow another like eight to ten after that like over the course of a game like you weigh yourself before and after usually before and after a game not necessarily but i'll lose like after a practice like probably three or four pounds okay and mostly water weight but you just gotta like pound water and get it back i remember playing with guys where they would lose 10 pounds over the course of the game because they just leak so oh yeah especially our goalies i think had that issue for a while um but yeah it is so annoying i would rather have probably have in my situation than the other way of not being able to lose it yeah that's the tough what is how has it been as far as coming in where an organization is pretty much new to like the changes over the past like four years since you've been there like is it is it you know they obviously getting used to a new city but like they're getting used to having an nhl team and maybe changing things and doing things differently yeah well we're pretty fortunate like they love sports in seattle love it great fan base there for unreal you guys are all there for the outdoor game yeah it was awesome yeah they love sports regardless of what sport it is seahawk they don't necessarily they're starting to understand it now but there were definitely some times like the first year the second year like a goal gets called back and they're like still going nuts you're like oh that's off by four feet that one didn't count uh but no they've that's been great the organization is unbelievable like the okay holy cow uh rank you like the rank the rank is sweet like there's some really they they the owners really did it up right you know they were i think they were telling us about like they were pretty over budget when they first built the rank and built all the stuff because they were like all right well if we're gonna do this we got to do it right do it the right way so they're they're pretty awesome about that and the way they they the way they treat us out there is pretty second i mean i haven't played on other teams but i would say like it's pretty unreal well even from i'm sure you guys talk and summer workouts yeah you guys got like yeah we were talking about it yesterday when we were in with phoenix like the league owned us it was we were buying our own lunches like now everything is there for you guys yeah and yeah the utah guys talking about how great it is over there for sure yeah compared compared to phoenix yeah it's funny because your rookie year you guys you made the you know you make the playoffs you go to win didn't they upset colorado yeah game seven and then went to game seven the second round with dallas yeah yeah so and then all of a sudden it's been you know more difficult right for sure like it part of it probably is like it was great making the playoffs and the fans love it but you didn't end up getting like another high pick with yourself right you know like that's probably something where you look at both sides it was great to get in but oh we we almost maybe might have been better off being like worse that yeah yeah i don't know i don't know it's not that's a goal no it's not you're you're right i mean it's tough regardless like you look at yeah gosh you look at this year like we were we were in a spot for so long yeah you started off good started off great you know we went to second half of the year after the break and just couldn't couldn't really get that mojo going again get that confidence the team you know we got really hot right before the break um so you know sometimes it's just a little bit of that it's like are you hot at the right time the right time in the year you know you look at god you look at detroit too like obviously there's all that stuff going on right now but you know it's just a little bit of but like they were in a playoff spot for almost the entire year yeah mean so and i think we got enough veteran presence to like you know get us over that edge of like okay we put ourselves in a great spot this year to make it now the last 20 games you gotta just like make sure you're you're winning you're just playing winning hockey like that's all that matters at that point and for you it's your fourth year i think you've had three coaches already right like is that coach killer no not like you're talking about no bringing in veteran guys like brandon montour comes over guys like that who have won like if you're not used to a coach like you got to have the guys in the locker room who are helping out and i know you've been around four years i'm sure you're earlier too but having those veteran guys must be huge yeah and being in seattle getting those guys to come there is huge as well yeah no having those guys are is huge you know guys that have been in playoffs you know won cups you know we have you know schwarzy in there we had montour you know vince thom we got a lot of guys that have uh stevenson we got a bunch of guys that have won it that have done it that know how to do it um you know i think the organization also i think part of the reason why we've had different coaches is like they want to win now and that's pretty important to them i think our you know our ownership group and you know management group is trying to be as aggressive as possible and like get new people get new guys so i think that could be a potential reason for the turnover as well as you know the lack of success um throughout the throughout the team or the team you know not doing as well as we should have so yeah it's tough it's tough year to year but you know it was pretty promising last year i i think we we had a really good team we we did a good enough job to hopefully make it in we didn't make it in and you know hopefully next year we do i was out there for that winter classic game and uh we we ended up meeting you guys us all out the young guys all listened and went out like we didn't have one one post game where like we didn't have everybody there ever not once not once regardless of if you drank if you didn't blast even my freshman year i don't know i don't know if i can say this but in covid we were having a ton of parties it was the best i was partying it was the best no such thing there you guys are the they were around that that was the fake that was the fake world we all lived in when i got yelled at and we're not carrying down the groceries and they're not in the garage well enough i'm like ah we have to kill you oh wait hey golf's open again but you can't have breakers uh rakes in the bunkers i'm like looking back now you couldn't play in the ncaa tournament because the guy had the cold i was and how popular it is and just like the growth of it in general and guys playing in the ahl and then going back to college now yeah you see some of that it's crazy i love i mean it's great for college hockey i think it's rightfully so like i think college we would always have these debates like canadian junior league versus college i don't even think it's close to me but it does suck now and i went on when they and i was like this is amazing for college hockey it is and it's made it you know it's definitely above that now but as an american kid it is like wow american kids are are kind of getting gonna get crushed here a little bit because every good canadian player is going with chl and then ncaa yeah they'll get maybe they'll get pushed out a little they need more teams it's gonna be more appropriate yeah they need more teams more teams would be great that's some south teams yeah there's all these club teams you probably see oh yeah it's not what about out in seattle there must be university of washington let's get them a program they have a good club program yeah they should i mean why not i think they have a oregon oregon has a really good club really i mean they have like they take their jersey there i see all the videos like the montages of all these teams but oklahoma state yeah they're coming like they have 10 d1 transfers that club team i saw that 10 division one transfer to a club team how fucked is that yeah they're gonna be low and those kids were getting money and they have a jet there's no regulation it's called the hockey they had a private jet and they were getting cash and they're like yeah this is unbelievable this is oh yeah oh yeah no i think it's good i mean i think it's good i think it'll even out regardless like there's gonna be a lot of canadian guys that stay in canada um but it's definitely gonna up the competition what would be your pitch to go to michigan because i norado i mean that guy is impressive you sit down with him he looks at your coach he was my assistant when i was there okay and then he got the head job and he got the head job when i left what was it mel mel is mel is my first and second year mel pearson okay yeah yeah what's my pitch to go to me i mean it's unbelievable heaven on earth yeah really kidding me yeah we talk about it all the time it's like a different like being from boston you know bcbu and harvard and northeastern right like it's just a different echelon of school like it's so saturday game day the football everyone's marching over this is we've never experienced anything like that no we i i would have never known at all unless i went there so it was unbelievable but the hockey's unbelievable the way you get treated like you get treated just as good as you are in the nhl at michigan they give you meals you know you get game day meal game day meals chef the night before you know you get the money you get for your rent and food is is like a party yeah but you you just get treated so well um and you're going you're getting a great education too you're going to michigan university great education and just so much fun so like you kind of have it's like the trifecta and all the sports are good yeah so like it's not just hockey you got basketball doing well you got football doing well like so it's fun you get to go like see these guys and watch them play and now you're watching them in the nfl or in the nba like that's pretty sweet the big 10 is in a great spot for hockey they just got the dough yeah they got the dough now i don't think you're everyone's making the decision based on just the money for college hockey were you getting dough very little like like nil money a little bit i was around point yeah right my first year just kind of started getting going could you transfer and not have to sit out when you were there or was that more new than that might have been my last year i don't love that role personally i don't mind one change i don't mind one either i'm with you i don't mind the coach leaves you should get one if even if the coach stays i don't mind one because if you're in a really going into your junior year and you're you've got a big recruiting class you didn't play sophomore year it's like all right i want but the the every year thing is the every year thing just takes all like the the culture out of yeah agreed it's like it needs to i agree with you one's fine like yeah okay you're in a bad situation like you we don't want or you don't want your career to get screwed over because maybe you don't like the coach doesn't like you or you know maybe it's just you're not getting the opportunity at the school you are now you go to a lesser school and now you're doing great and now you have a chance to make sure right that's great but the moving every year is just way too much yeah in my opinion yeah was it just going back to like your first year and being in college and i remember i i was with hazy after his first year yeah like was it a tough transition for you because it seems like in college like you guys are always with each other 24 7 right and i remember hazy always having to have someone around him just like a guy was tough for you going into the nhl like that yeah that was a little tough for sure um that's why i love being home so much just you got people around all the time right just to text play golf do whatever um but i had a roommate my first two and a half years there's will borg and he got traded to the rangers so that was tough right that's a good dose of like what the pros is like all right this is my best buddy gone gone yeah the next day just don't even get to say goodbye friend killer yeah um but yeah no i like having i like having people around it's night it helps so much and you're right it's so different like after practice at michigan we'd all get in the same room and you know go to the hockey house and we go watch tv or we all go play xbox or like do nothing just together right now you're in pro you live thousands of miles away from your family and it's like you got they uh all your buddies got families all your buddies got wives and girlfriends and you're kind of like all right what am i what am i doing now so you kind of got to figure out what you find some things you like to do outside the rink you know keep yourself busy i got a house in st louis i got a house in st louis in seattle now so that kind of keeps me busy i like take care of that yeah make sure everything's okay um and you know do a little like cooking on the side when it's when i'm home alone or i'll go out to dinners i'll try new restaurants like just like you got to find something to do because otherwise if you're there alone it's just what's that city like like compared to austin is it like like good restaurants good restaurants fun little pockets right there are fun pockets yeah it's good really good restaurants it's definitely bigger than here is okay it's a little bit more spread out there's a lot going on yeah like bellevue like yeah there's i i live on like on vancouver island yep so like they got the gulf islands and then you guys have like the roche harbor and all those little islands and then you can go in that little pocket there's a bunch of national i don't know if you're into hiking but there's a bunch of national forests and beautiful mountains there the outdoor stuff is awesome it's just we haven't gotten to do a ton of it yeah because i'm not there in the summers but like they have a lot of stuff to do when it gets a little bit nicer out it's it's a little rainy sometimes but the gulf there's great so that's that's awesome golf's great the restaurants are really awesome there's like some nightlife um not a ton but there's some it's a bit of a sleepy town vancouver doesn't have great nightlife either um but yeah i mean you're on the road so much like it doesn't totally matter do any guys stay in seattle for the summer uh right now i think schwartz is staying there he's having a kid a little bit alexiak used to stay and grubauer used to stay a little bit but there's not like that's what they're trying to build up there is it's not like boston rare the boston guy the bees guys who stay have they have players everywhere 15 more players probably more 20 25 players around that are just like boston guys yeah so they can skate with us they can skate with oh it's more of like a resources and having guys yeah you want to you need people to skate with and train with them if you're in seattle you're kind of all alone like there's not yeah there's not that big hockey community there they're just like they're just like they're just like they're just like they're just like just starting it okay good to know you guys have to do a lot of stuff with the youth because i remember talking with like donor when the team first went to phoenix like they had basically had to start the youth programs and show up and be at the you guys do a lot of that a lot of it a lot they would do a lot of like community stuff that's a big you know importance of our ownership group and and the guys in the team are great about it like everyone wants to be involved and like you said like there's just not that much hockey around so it's fine ways to like get people into it and you know you get kids more excited we go to schools all the time um you know we do hospital visits all these different things to just to show your support and then also show them your sport a little bit because it's like not even been there'll be there'll be you know 15 years from now there'll be some players coming yeah yeah hopefully i mean look at look at matthews after coyotes come i know it's years later but when you look back on like your year this year and then you look back on like your year this year and then you look back on like the past couple years what what is like uh lane lambert tell you like this needs to be better obviously you talk about like just getting like stronger like is there anything else that you're really focused on yeah i think you have the skill and you have the speed right so it's like what's next i think i think it's just like a little bit more like taking some more offensive risks like i definitely am you know i try to be a two-way player that's always been kind of my game playing the game the right way but i think there's some more areas for me to grow on like the offensive side of the puck maybe take as much as i can and i think it's just like a little bit more of a more chances um you know trying to take guys a little bit more one-on-one um taking guys wide a little bit more just being you know maybe a little bit more selfish with the puck sometimes shooting shooting the puck a little bit more so it's kind of the offensive side of things and i think i'm you know i think i i liked my year this year i thought i thought as a team it was you know we didn't finish where we wanted to but as the first three-fourths of it was pretty good and for myself i liked i liked my game throughout and so it's just like continuing to build in those areas whether it's like my face-offs my you know defensive play do you pk a little bit not not was that something you'd like something i'd love to do yeah i don't do it fucking i block a bunch of shots so i have to i'd love to pk um but yeah no pk and then like getting more productive on the power play too like that's you know you see so many guys we have they get to the 80 the 90 the 100 points yeah that's where that comes from yeah for sure is the power play points that extra 20 yeah because you're at you had 57 and then 50 this year and like so it's like getting to 70 ish right and like just 65 70 75 like that's where that growth comes i think is the power play and you know maybe sneak in a couple more empty netters for myself i don't know but i don't think i had any this year i had zero my whole career it's a thing if you look a lot of guys they probably get i don't know six to ten points a year empty net goals you got to win i ate the minuses trying to tie it up oh yeah and never got any pluses or points i think i have a hundred empty yeah we did is he's a hundred empty minuses in my career we looked it up at one point you got to look up actually when you're when we're done with this look up how many abs had their first year i think it was an outrageous amount of minuses minuses on empty like the kraken's very first year yeah he was minus 28 and i bet he tells when you get two in one game when you get two when they score and the coach empties the net again you're like no no but but for you like with like you're a defensive minded like you you play a 200 foot game yeah so now like we talked to bergeron early and he he was talking about just the little things in his game not worrying about the point just taking care of the minor details but coming in as a young guy being good in the defensive zone now you can probably focus more on the offensive side yeah you're gonna you definitely get a little bit more of that and then you're gonna get a little bit more of a rope a little bit more leeway you gain confidence like the you know the mental side of the game is just as important so that's that part of the game you start to get more comfortable in the nhl you still get to get more comfortable going against you know harder matchups and yeah you're 23 dude yeah you get you find ways to like produce in those in those areas while also still trying to like shut guys down so yeah no it's been good i mean i really like you know really liked lane and the staff there's a lot of good stuff going on but i think it's been good i think you know i think they're very intelligent and do a really good job and you know it'll be nice like you said we've had different coaches every year that can be good but also can be tough because you're kind of trying to get the lay of the land with your new coaches so it'll be nice this year coming in and we kind of already have a plan in place and now it's like building instead of like restarting for sure yeah yeah what what about uh hardest hit you've taken four years in now oh on it it might be this year barbashev - Oh, that's not the guy you want. - And Chandler Stevenson is sitting the bench and he's laughing at me i was like worse what are you what are we doing here he was like he hits it pretty hard i was like yeah he does i can't breathe dude um what about like mentally from the grind perspective of the 82 now going to 84 game schedule like especially when you come from college and you're not playing as many games throughout a season like i mean describe that to a young guy maybe coming up like how how much harder it is and like it's not even like you can escape it where you're like oh we got like a you know a couple couple easy ones coming up like the league it's like there's so much parody especially being in the pacific division like you might have mcdavin and dry sidle one night and then going in to fucking play against like vegas where you have jack eichel pretty fucking hard man yeah no it's tough i mean it's a lot of games this year was crazy to be completely every other night with the break yeah playing 17 games in a month was outrageous and i know a lot of teams did it i don't know if everyone did it but i know that month was just like that's like two or three back-to-backs and other than that every other night every other night there's no two in between a game oh like you're on the road like you said like you're gonna say travel like for our travel is the worst gotta be it had to be a night you get on in warm-ups and you know the legs you're like no yeah i got nothing oh yeah you get out of you get off and warm-ups you go in there and you just put all of the icy hot take about two suit of stretcher a bottle and you're like please all right we gotta get going you have to get going you have to get going you have to get going find a way to get the icy hot please the old stretcher the bottle uh raw remember robert nielsen uh was oh there was a couple guys atomic bomb guy oh yes no no no i'm how much he put on three days he was gonna put paint thinner on him to get it off he also slept on the ground because his back was so bad so he would sleep on the mattress boy gordon at home slept on the ground on the road slept on the ground never used his mattress he come to his room i didn't even get a mattress no mattress oh yeah that's dragon bill oh my god but even this year you guys got no testing in camp like what's that feel going you don't need that shit dude these guys are fucking buzzing they're gonna know the minute you step on the ice if you didn't do the work yeah no no one needs it it'll be it'll be nice not to have to because you basically like the last three years you basically just bike so that you're ready for that test and then you're like you're skating four times like by the time august hits guys are skating four times a week anyways like you're ready to go for camp and then you're on the side on wednesday grinding a two mile bike or a mile bike you know three times whatever your testing is just so you can like pass the test yeah that's all that's literally all it is you're training for that test so i think it's great no testing and i also like how we're doing just we're kind of just getting right into it this year i think it's our game is immediately almost yeah it's like we play i think more than 100 games you play two you can only play two games max and so we're gonna play two games and then it's gonna be like right into it might hurt way better it will be way better it might hurt the young guys like trying to make a team though yeah welcome but yeah i mean you just get your team ready to go and you're like all right this is the squad and if there's 84 regular season we'll see him at some point yeah we will i gotta ask you so this is so you signed a seven year deal um 50 million which is great now this is the first year of getting the 7.1 salary the first two years was a five on one day july one uh first one did she says five million Well, I saw a story in South Korea, a Michelin chef, Michelin chef was accused of serving ants on his desserts. And ants are not one of the 10 insect species that are approved for human consumption in South Korea, which is where it happened. It was a two-starred Michelin restaurant. So I guess he had served over like almost close to 50,000 ants on desserts. The people knew they were getting ants on their desserts, which is kind of whatever floats your boat. You said you actually went to the show by yourself. Was that the first time ever? Yeah, first time ever I went to a movie alone, and it was incredible. Incredible experience. I didn't do IMAX. I was up in Guilford, New Hampshire, this small little theater right on Winnipesaukee. And, yeah, I caught the 6.30 Odyssey showing. Unequivocally, the best movie I've ever seen in my life. Wow. It's three hours. I got a pretty quick attention span, boys, attention span. And, I mean, at no point. At no point did I think about anything other than the movie and what was happening. And I think maybe it's because I don't want to give too much away, but there's different storylines, little different stories throughout the whole thing. But unbelievable. So cool seeing Aves in it, too. He's in there way more than you think. I know he doesn't have a ton of lines, but it was so sick seeing him in there. Matt Damon, incredible. I thought Robert Pattinson, incredible villain. He was such a good fucking villain. But, yeah, I mean, I just thought it was best. Best movie I've ever seen. And going to the movies alone, I can't suggest it enough. I don't know if you guys have ever done it, but it's fucking. I've done it many times. It makes total sense. You don't speak at the movies anyways. I know R.A. is a big person in terms of going to movies alone. Why wouldn't you? Yeah, absolutely. Like you just said, it's supposed to be quiet. It did, like, kind of a deep dive in, you know, basically his family history and why he's been depressed and writes the songs he does and, you know, like, sort of, like, issues he's gone through, like, you know, body type and all that stuff I can kind of relate to. I definitely relate it to the guy a lot more than I thought, not necessarily musically, but it was a great documentary. If you haven't seen it, check it out. Also, too, remember that Costa Concordia boat that ran aground in Italy a few years ago? Like, it just basically gets stuck on the rocks and just, like, slowly tilted. It was probably, I thought it was five years ago. It was, like, 10, 12 years ago. It's called Shipwrecked Nightmare at Sea. It's unbelievable, man. It just, it does remind you of the Titanic. Now, granted, they weren't in the North Atlantic, like, hundreds of miles from civilization. They were, like, basically two miles from the Italian coast, but it was just sort of about, like, how some people rise to the occasion and some men are just cowards. Like, it was, like, the Titanic. Some were flying it to one city or the other. And we're like, oh, the boat doesn't leave till five. Well, literally it was the storm of the century that they, we got rerouted to Memphis. Cause I bought a Tennessee t-shirt. I'm like, oh, when am I ever going to be back here? A little bit. I know 20 something years later with Grinnelly, I'd be there. And we ended up missing our boat. Like, because like we couldn't fly into Atlanta. We, it was like the weather like delayed everything. So we get there and like, listen, you already missed it. It was the carnival cruise, the carnival celebration. Like it already left, but we can put you on the holiday because, because the currents, they have to leave and catch the currents to make all the ports of call. And we get there, but only two of us had our luggage. And I'm like, buddy, I just took out a student loan ago on this fucking cruise. You, I don't care about clothes. You guys want to get on, I'll see you as there. So we all ended up getting on the boat, but we got to like, it wasn't like the gangway, like the love boat where everyone's waving to you. They had like sneakers in a side door. So basically there were eight of us in each port of call. One of my buddies would get his luggage. So like over the course of like the, where you can see, we all have each other's clothes on. If you look at all the pitches, but. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You took out a loan to go on a cruise? Oh, actually, you know what? That might've been my, the Jamaica trip. I'm sorry. That was another spring break. I took out, yeah. To hedonism? Yeah, actually, yeah, it was hedonism. He was in a, like, you know, in the hot tub and one of his, the guest did share his wife with my buddy in the, in the hot tub. I don't know, you know, he was big. Cut guy, whatever. But no, it was like I said, it was, it was not worth the loan. It was fun. But anyways, cruises, all done. I, every, you just see too many disasters. I feel like they're like, like roller coasters, right? Like growing up, I love roller coasters. I would go to Busch Gardens with a pass, you know, get back a line, get back a line until you'd get sick from the adrenaline. Now you couldn't pay me $10,000 to go on a roller coaster, man. Okay, so, so, so, so my friend recently said he's been sending all, they're, they're breaking everywhere. Insane. People are getting dragged off these things. I, I agree. I agree with you. It's kind of bizarre that. It's because Benson's not working them. There's five. Zach Benson would never let that happen. There has been five or six in the past, like couple months, instances. And then it just seems like every time you turn around, like there's some sort of disaster. But I mean, I, I got a fair heights anyways, even though I still would go on these things, but yeah, I'm all set with the roller coasters going forward. What's more dangerous getting behind the wheel with RA or going on a, on a five flags roller coaster? Depends on how long the ride is with RA. If you're going like three hour ride, I think that that's probably more dangerous than, than a five and a half flags roller coaster. What's the bet that where G has to get in a car with you and drive to a university of Michigan. If they don't make the final four. Yeah. Oh yeah. They don't make the frozen four. I mean, RA got to drive to, I believe Ohio state. And then just like walk around campus in Michigan, I mean, that's a big year. Yeah. Okay. uh kind of a word of a chill summer i don't do my family trip for another couple weeks so i just been kind of uh wait counting the minutes to go up to vermont for my like i said my annual trip he goes by himself calls it a family trip on a cruise what how many people are going on this family trip uh me my mother my brother though we go up for the whole duration then my niece her boyfriend come up um my a couple of my uncles are gonna come up so you know like we we used to only do it for a week but we're doing two weeks this year because last year we were like i could easily do another week here so yeah this is where i saw you in saratoga years before the show even began yeah yeah we yeah we shared the money on the way out yeah i think that was the second time we met yeah we did we did good good call what we take a day trip over from uh where we stay in vermont and it's about an 80 minute trip what's great about it's all the back roads so you don't even have to get on any highways at all it's just a beautiful scenic ride through all this sort of upstate new york farmland and uh yeah we make a day trip there and maybe try to hit a few breweries this year because we're staying for a little bit longer but yeah basically just waiting for that to happen and then we're going to be back in vermont for the jeopardy's in repeats now so that was my one show i pretty much watch every night is uh repeat time so yeah i just kind of called the minutes to get up to vermont and enjoy a little vacay with the fam what do you guys do rent a house uh we had a house for years it was uh not like a winterized house but obviously we're in the summer so it didn't matter but it was uh the guy ended up selling it so we get it like an old-fashioned cabin now which is actually like what you call rustic which i actually like more than the house it's just you feel like you're in vermont more it's like right on a lake keith and it's not like over developed it's not even really developed at all it's a lot of year year rounders and a few people go up for the summer so it's very quiet we just sort of go up and honestly it's just the ultimate decompression it's just like there's not even a tv in the house this kid there's internet and stuff but just kind of go up unwind you know eat drink and be merry basically will you will you put the phone away because if there's no tv but you have internet in your phone that isn't really there's no like difference will you put the phone down or i try i try i i try with i bring books up and it's been a struggle man it's like these these ms man they're so goddamn addicted it's just i i try to check it i've been trying to read even like recently just try to focus on just recalibrate my brain a little bit just to like read books again because i used to be a voracious reader so yeah i'll bring a handful of books up and hopefully just throw the phone in the lake for a little bit see what happens okay and now who's and you're on the grill here you're on the no no no um my paulie walnuts does pretty pretty good job of the grill my dukes as well so i mean yeah whatever if they needed i'll take all the trash to all the other shit but yeah they don't really i don't think anyone's going to be able to do that i don't think anyone's going to but it's clamoring for me to get on on the drill on the grill rather sorry these fucking spam calls man remember oh i've got cell phones like if someone nobody had your number unless they were in your like circle now every day man these fucking spam calls brutal bro oh sorry just popped up while i they would like give you a pause like like wait for you to say it now they in the first round if you don't say it they still give you the fucking clue which is like sorry to me is like you know
