How was the drive? - It was a awesome couple of weeks. - Okay. - Yeah, I love driving. Actually, Jan's before we started recording, was talking about how he did his longest drive that he's ever done before. - Yeah. - Which was sockingly only just over five hours. - Yeah, five hours, 20 minutes. - Becky, are you driving yourself, you mean? - Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, bus. Ah, no, we flew the year I was in Monkton, we flew anywhere outside of the Maritines. - Oh, okay, I was a robberter in Toronto. - Monkton Wildcats right here. But yeah, Robert Irving was so good to us. Teddy Nolan was like, hey, I'm coming for one year. We're gonna run this like an NHL team and anything outside of the Maritines, we flew private. - Well, you're also talking about like going on a bus and being driven. I think we were more referencing the kind behind the wheel getting after it. But so Jan's like, you're starting to become a road trip guy? - I don't know, this one wasn't bad and I'm usually four hours is usually my max. I do that quite a bit to like Tampa, just past Tampa for the kids lacrosse. But yeah, this five hour drive, I don't know, like it was in New Jersey, G knew the road that we took. It was like through the mountain, not mountains, but hills, it was like cool scenery. So, and there was no traffic, which was huge. But if there was traffic, I would have lost my mind. - Well, Hutchings in Parkway? - Hutchings in Parkway, yeah, exactly. And so it was a beautiful drive, kind of, it was mixed up too. We weren't on the same road for like four hours. Like it was different highways, you know, you do like 40 miles on one. So I like to-- - See, I like the same road. Like if I'm-- - Oh, I don't like that. - If you get me on a road and then the way says like, 314 miles exit, exit, 69, I just say that. The Ronda Rousey talk, I would love that. I would go, I mean, I'm on this road. I'm getting in the left lane. I'm going 82, if somebody comes behind me, I move over, I get back in, right? - Okay. - Maybe 85, maybe 85 actually, not that much of a pussy. - I went, I went, Scottsdale to Salt Lake, Salt Lake to Jackson. It was obviously in Jackson a while. I always love driving through the park and I always go to Bozeman. So drove through the park, avoided getting killed by a bison. I always like to stop along the way. There's a few like rivers in there, where there's a lot of rivers. And I just get out and just like jump in and think it's kind of refreshing. It kind of wakes you up mid-drive. You know, it's surprisingly for this time of year, there wasn't that much traffic in Yellowstone. Maybe it was because of the pocket that I was in, but got past there, stopped in Bozeman. Bozeman's a fun town. Like it's a beautiful little downtown strip, great restaurants, stopped there for a night. And then where'd we go after that? We stopped it. Oh, then I went to Corde de Laine and I ended up going to the Gretzky-Hockey School for the Friday. Boys, I was like legit playing in the game against the second-age group. And then the kids that were, there was a few that were up to the age of 16. I was having a hard time keeping up. - Really? Yeah. - Yeah, I mean, even if they don't have, skill. Even if they don't have hockey, I need to see they all can buzz though. All these kids can buzz. Like they just fly around. So Derek Ryan, who I believe just retired. He played for the oilers. His kid was out there who was probably the best kid. He was out there. Juke and like I got a dangle the few times where they put me on rollerblades and like all the parents are watching. And I'm like, oh, yeah. Like just like not trying. Yeah. No, I was legit trying. So we didn't win a game for both sessions. I hopped on. You full gear. No, I just get skates and gloves. I took a few a couple of the kids. You know how you think that they're going to they're going to cock the puck back and they're going to see I'm in the lane and not shoot. Not right off the shins. Oh, yeah. But then on from there, I ended up stopping in Seattle for a couple nights, which you know, not your typical city that I would go to, but the weather there is stunning. Kind of a weird city layout. Like there's too much like industrial that you always see regardless of when you're looking like at the ocean part. I know you're on the inlet, but, but nonetheless, beautiful weather went to a couple incredible restaurants there and then finally made the trek. So overall a great two weeks and very excited to be back in Vancouver and then heading to Victoria. And then we got our boy Jeff Jacobson's birthday party on the 23rd Thursday. The Canadian oldie is coming. Dale Morningstar is coming after the buddy. These guys, one of these oldies married with kids, right? Yeah, but I think him and I think him and Dale moved in together. Oh, good day. Yeah, him, Dale and the bison and the bison. They those two murals, murals offered and it was a hell of an idea. Murals, obviously, he thinks of everything. He's like, I want to be the Ohio's Tate for oldie and memes and just document their, their trips wherever they go. And I'm asked like, because I think some of the stuff that these guys are pulling is completely outrageous. They showed up to a hole in one stream. I think it was, they went to that. They've been trying to get a home one for 97 hours. Oldie shows up. And I think it was within 30 minutes, within 30 minutes. The guy Kyle got one vote. I feast time with this big John guy. Yeah. You guys see. Yeah. So, yeah. That guy is a electric. He's electric. I don't know how he's doing those runs. He's high. He's drunk. He's in phenomenal shape, phenomenal. And he's buzzing around. There's a lot that goes into this, I guess. Yeah. Yeah. But you bought fake tickets. So where do you want to start? G where you want to start with your bachelor burden? Yeah. We can start with with the bachelor party if you want. I'm heading down to Nashville this week with 15 of my buddies so fired up. Staying on old Hickory Lake, like 20 minutes outside of Nashville. Gonna rent a boat one day. I heard there's this big sand bar where everyone goes drinks and parties. So it should be a blast playing hermitage as well. I got two rounds there, two separate 18s playing both of those golf game is just in the absolute tubes right now. It is horrible. Irons dialed, putting dialed, just can't figure out the T box. I just I've created this insane slice that I just can't fix. I got three swing coaches trying to help me. Everyone says they can fix it in 20 minutes and they work with me and they're like yikes. This kid needs a lot of work. So hopefully I can figure that out for the for the golf trip. No, there's going to be some money matches there. But I'm so fired up and it's it's just so crazy. You know, I came into checklists as a young 23 year old kid. Now I'm getting married. I'm 33. Going on my bachelor party this week. So it's it's been a crazy ride. Pinkies up. And yeah, I just I can't wait to get to Nashville and see all the boys and. I mean, this week Noah Cajon, we can get to know what Cajon is. Well, what a concert best show in my life. It's as a con or Cajon. I always say Cajon. I think that's why he's telling me it's the other other. I had no con. All right. Well, no con. It was the best show of my life. It was an unbelievable concert at Fenway Park. He got nominated to like the music Hall of Fame at Fenway Park, only four people, Billy Joel Paul McCartney, Zach Brown band and now Noah Cajon. It was unbelievable. Showed out four consecutive shows insane, but I bought fake tickets. And this, I don't know how this always happens to me. I bought these tickets for a lot of for Valentine's Day. So in February, I got these right away. They sent me the tickets. I know like we I'm kind of the guy that always handles the tickets on the chicken strip. That doesn't usually happen. They don't usually send you the tickets six months in advance, usually a week before sometimes 24 hours before he does it one o'clock day of the concert. Yeah. So I didn't know that he had this like ban on secondary markets reselling the tickets. So as we approach the concert, I start seeing on TikTok and in Instagram, all these people getting rejected outside the show and they're not allowed in. They have like real tickets, but it's the bar codes all fucked up. So I'm looking at these tickets and I'm like, I tweet out. I'm like, I think I bought fake tickets. Chicklets fans start DMing me screenshots of their tickets. I'm like, holy fuck, these are completely different tickets. Like these are I was disgusted with you by the way. We'll talk to him in a bit. So I call my friend who works at Fenway Park and I'm like, Hey, like, is this ticket real or not? He calls me back. He's like, no, it is not. That is not a real ticket. So I end up buying two more tickets. Because this is now 20 less than 24 hours before the show. So I end up buying two more seats in the same section. So I want to be like, all right, maybe if they look alike, you know, maybe they are the same seats completely different tickets. Like these are a row apart, different bar codes, different looking. So where you bought it online though? Online. I used a pretty reputable site and a very, very reputable site. And then I call the site and I'm like, Hey, like, these are fake tickets. They're like, no, they're not. These are real. I send them a screenshot of the real ticket I bought and then the fake, the other fake one, they admitted they're like, yeah, there's no way that they reimburse you. So I about an hour before the show, they send me two more tickets. So now I went from having zero tickets to four tickets. So I got to bring two of my buddies for free. So it ended up being an. That's cool. Yeah. Okay, okay. That's nice that they did. They ended up bucking up and taking responsibility. So now we're in the, now we're in the world of where like even when you're going to reputable sites, you can be buying fake tickets. We already had the, the issue with you buying the one on what was a saboro's pizza box tickets. Yeah. That was, I, nonetheless, I took a ton of mushrooms. I was, I was walking through Times Square. Someone offered me Dave Matthews band's tickets. I bought them ended up at Margarita Villain Times Square that night. That was a young dumb and full of come Mike. So yeah. Okay. Yeah. And then all of a sudden, everything, this concert is incredible. I started listening. I'm a super fan. I love it. love the guy's music, right? So I'm like, I'm going this year. Well, in the meantime, he somehow hears that we were talking about him and DMs Biz. Biz sends the DM over to us. I'm like, holy shit, Biz is mentioning, let's play golf, hey, big fan of the show. Not the biggest hockey guy, but you guys are hilarious, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, this is unreal. I show my wife, I say, we might end up playing golf with Nookah. I might get tickets through this guy. I don't know what, we're gonna be at this hospital. - We're gonna get his name right. I think he'll play with us. - Yeah. - I think so. - Yeah, okay. - No worries. - You know what, you know what my wife did? She went around and told all her friends Ryan's playing with Nookah. - Playing golf. - So that is like one where I'm like, why did you tell, I could have played with him and then you told everyone I'd play with him, but now everyone I see, I hear you're playing with Nookah. Well, no, we didn't play golf together. I'm trying to go through, I was probably annoying the fuck out of Biz. I'm like, send him this, send him this, send him my number. Maybe it'll text me, you don't have to be a middleman. He didn't text me. Okay, Biz, tell him this, tell him this. And then he actually mentioned to you, post show, I could play golf Monday morning, we were doing the show. - I don't know how to do this. - I fly out in six hours, so I haven't packed. We couldn't figure that out, but I'll get to the concert now. Incredible, rock star, unreal, Fenway Park. He's from Vermont. I think his parents went to school in Boston. You could tell the best part of the show. He was so appreciative. This guy, he just sends like how grateful he is for the life he has, right? And the music, so I'm with Bri and I played golf with Ned earlier that day. Now, I get to the golf course and I hear Ned on the phone. He's talking to his wife. Hey, babe, they're going down the cave. You pick up a bunch of high noons. I'm going to drive down after the round to see down the cave. She is the kid. I said, Ned, we got to go to this concert tonight. He said, I actually went on Wednesday night. I said, well, we got to go. He said, I have Bri text her. So, he, she texts her. She says, okay, I'm in. They cancel their plans to the cave. I'm looking at Ned's car still outside my house right now, which is hilarious. This was Friday night. So, we go to the show. A bunch of friends are in there. We're in there at local before with Shawse. My wife and I take a little bit nibble of a chocolate bar, then a couple nibbles of a gummy bear. And I'm sitting there with Ned and my wife and his wife. And I felt this joy overcome me. And I'm just so happy in the sunsetting. And I love the music and Fenway Parks. Might have been my favorite place on earth. And I'm just like life is good. Well, then I immediately drop my phone. You know, I fumble fuck my phone. I drop my phone. I pick my phone at my phone's broken. The screen is completely green. It's going, it's going, it's black. It's then going to white. I start panicking. I'm like, all right, I can't do the Verizon Apple store thing before this trip. I have to get all this stuff done. Ned grabbed me by the shoulder. He said, what? Let's just enjoy each other. Yeah. Let's enjoy the set. Nice, Mary. I said, you're so, you're so goddamn correct. I put in my pocket. I didn't even reach for it. I might have reached for it once. And I'm like, no, no, it's broken. Buddy, I was sitting there. Maybe it was being a little bit high, a little bit drunk, being with my wife. We were, we were singing. And I knew every word to fuck with some of these songs. I'm talking arm around her. She's got her arm. She's rubbing my butt. And giving her kisses on the cheek. I'm like, this is life right now. And no phone away. So listen, I didn't, I, no, no, no. There's not a fourth on the way. Unfortunately, by the time we got home and we cooked up some angelette pasta, there was no sex to be had. There was no sex to be had. But there was eating to be had. And then the Noah Kahn documentary, which is wild too. It's an incredible story. And awesome man. He's kind of a sad boy. He seems to be battle a little bit of. He's battled the pressure. Well, when the screen's broken on the old one, there's a lot of different issues. But I was in a Verizon store for two and a half hours. They couldn't get my Verizon upload. Then I went to the Apple store. That was three hours. This is the so short fucking plaza. If you don't know the so short plaza, I'd rather be in Yellowstone, be in Chase by a bison. And I'm not exaggerating. And I'm losing my mind. And the guy at Verizon, he was a nice guy, but dude, he's talking to me. I'm like, I don't have a lot of time. Ryder had a golf term and I had to caddy in that. And I'm like, I gotta get out of here. And he's telling me in South Carolina, how he was a security guard for a NASCAR race one time. I think it was like the A, child of NASCAR. And then a guy came up to and shoved him in here to shove him back. And I'm like, just fix my phone plates. But I didn't yell it, but in my brain, I'm screaming it. I'm fucking losing my mind, losing my mind. And then the guy at Apple, who was a great guy, well then an attractive woman comes in and needs his help. And he is just wheeling and dealing in on my body. I get, I actually went up and said, one sec, excuse me, man, I said, I wish I said, I get what you're doing here. I'd be doing the same thing. Like if the roles were reversed, I need your help. So bad, he goes, buddy, he goes, buddy, just give me a couple more minutes on this one. He got her number. Good for him. No way. Yeah. And if you get them together and you get them at that 15 number, both agreeing on that. I mean, all the emotions in the world being let on the ace with your brothers and your family like that, like I guess just go into that. - Yeah, he said earlier, almost like I forgot they were there, and once that made eye contact with all the men, it just all came rushing out. Like, I mean, you could go all the way back, you want. I mean, all the way to the back of your ranks, all the stuff that we've talked about and played for in all those games that you're shooting that final shot for the Cup win, and with your brothers outside and the other ranks, so, and then that kind of all came plus from our flooding back and it was, yeah, it was incredible. Honestly, like, I mean, just so much emotion, so much emotion through all the years that we've been grinding, and they've been supporting me the whole time, and it was, it was really cool, an amazing, amazing moment. - The ups and downs too, or wild, because you went over there, you're playing with Eric, and then there's years of like, you know, not success, then you guys get really good, and then the playoff, you know, failures, and then all of a sudden, it finally comes to fruition this year. But what's crazy to me is how long you've played, like, you're over 1,400 games now, 181 playoff games. How do you feel? Do you still feel good? Like, are you even one of those guys that's like, "Fuck, I'm getting older?" Are you still feel like excellent in the off season and stuff like that? - No, I'm hurt, and I mean, I feel fine at times, but there's definitely times where, you know, you're like, what am I doing here? Like, you know, you got, you know, you got your game 52, and you're on a back-to-back with like, you know, it's like floored at an auto or something, and you're like, oh my goodness. Like, barely wake up for basically getting to the boss of the game, and you know, it's, there are times and moments for sure, and you know, I said, you get kids in the picture of that. Those are hard to, you know, the longer you go, the more, you know, you're cutting that kind of time with them. And, but for the most part, man, my body feels great. My mind, I'm having so much fun. I mean, this team is incredible. Like, that's the biggest thing right now is, like, like I said, I haven't been playing so long, but I'm like, Raleigh's home. Like, it's been home, and now I'm, my kid's called home. I've 11-year-old that's literally only lived in Raleigh. You know, it's like, so they call it home. I call it home, and I get to play on a unbelievable team with a chance to win every year. Like, you can't write that up any better. Like, I know I grinded to some years, but like, it is, you can't picture at the end any better for myself, and I haven't just really haven't so much fun with these guys and, and, and join the grind. I mean, it's, it is a grind, but it's so much fun, and I appreciate it. So it's, it's been a blessing for sure. - Embracing the sock as your brother Mark used to say, when I played with him all the time. But even for you, even going back, like, you got to play with Eric and Jared. Like, how cool was that? Like, you got the couple of games there. You see him on the ice as well. Like, obviously he's, he's one of the brothers not talked about as much as you guys, but like, how much does he mean to you in, you know, to be able to play those two games with him in the NHL? - Yeah, that was a cool moment. You know, I thank Jimmy Rutherford for that. Obviously, pulling Jay up and, and being able to have that opportunity to, to play with two bros. And, and honestly, I think Mark would have been in that lineup if Eric didn't hit him too hard a couple of months before that, but, it was, you know, he was in the building, which was wild, you know, so all four of us. - Well, well, he didn't play because he was out with an injury due to an injury. - I think it would be that might have happened, but it was, it was such a subject for a while, but for the most part, we had all four guys and, and, and brothers and one building. Incredible moment, obviously, and I had to play with a little bro and have an opportunity, you know, grind it out with him for a couple of games. And it was, it was a really cool moment. You know, those were tough years, and that was a highlight, for sure, you know, on top of playing with Eric, and, you know, getting part of his family and his kids, and, and having one of my own during that time and all that stuff, but the little bro coming up to, was it really, really cool? I mean, that's actually, you know, I don't, I'm putting much of one in the walls, but the one pitch where I do like is, you know, us three in a row there on the line, I start that game with server, the cool mom. - How much more gratifying is it that the fact that you basically like, you stuck through it and, and built what you guys built from the ground up? And I guess going through the beginning of it, people were surprised at the fact you moved on from Pittsburgh was playing with Eric like a majority of the factor of you deciding to go there, or was it more of like, no, I think I can maybe take on a little bit more responsibility and not play third fiddle, if that's-- - Yeah, there was a little bit of that. For the most part, it was, it was, it was a wild time. You know, basically Pittsburgh at the time offered me 10-year deal, and I was like, well, and my agents like take it, take it, take it, take it. Let's just take the deal, and we'll-- - Please, listen to me still, listen to me Jordan. And no, Eric's like, yeah, you sign that and like, he's like, we might not ever play with each other, you know, and, you know, kind of a, kind of a, do we move to be honest? But, you know, it just like, it just by the seat and honest, it was like rolling into my wedding. And I remember looking at my future wife, I guess, at the time. I was like, you know, you figure out these next few days and I'll figure out the rest of our lives here. Like it was like, it was both through some crazy times. So I said, no, I still had a year left, so I wasn't sure what they were gonna do. We magically had our wedding on Draft Night and sure enough for a night and a middle of the on trays. I have a half a parogi in my mouth, and my agent comes running over and-- - General Pittsburgh. - Yeah, yeah, and-- - Parotrip, yeah. - And, you know, you got to trade the Carolina Hurricanes. And yeah, I was like, what? And I like spit it out, basically. And, you know, you kind of hear the rest of the room, you know, kind of get hushed. And, but, you know, that's so much emotion. Like, obviously your wedding day is an incredible day. And then I'm sitting there, you know, in my stomach, you know, in my throat, looking at the far corner there and you see, you know, eight to 10 guys from Pittsburgh that are there for my wedding, you know? And so I was, you know, I get out there. I'm half fallen, like, you know, hugging everyone. But on top of that, we had an incredible night. Not too often you get traded, but also get to hang with your voice and, you know, enjoy an evening. Knowing it, you know, we had a couple more weddings ahead. We had, you know, on flower and Brooks Orpah Governor in that summer. So we had a couple more parties that was good. But crazy story, crazy time. But, you know, like to answer your question, yeah, it was to play with Eric. That was the biggest thing. And, you know, to play with your brother in NHL, I mean, how can you pass that up, even the opportunity too? So I was so excited to get down to Carolina, man. I was, I was, I was going to change the whole thing. Like, we're going to turn this thing around. And I had all this ambition. And it just went, they went to shit. I mean, for the most part, it was, it was no good, but so many great, great memories, you know, with the brother and all those things. Like I said before, and, but yeah, it was, it was crazy times. - Yeah, I was going to say you see Orpah's in flower, leaving it like 2 a.m. and they got the toaster and the, and the blender. They're like, all right, knock, knock. I won't see him in camp anyway. Fuck. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was very soon. Yeah. - You're quote after, it was incredible. And for sure, it wasn't like a shot at anyone, but with how the league is now, you just mentioned like so many guys jump ship. And for a guy who was first six years in the league, never miss playoffs, you go down in seven straight years, you miss and you stuck it out, you just mentioned that. But like, was there ever a moment in those seven years, maybe the fifth year, the sixth year where you're like, or did you see by the end of that kind of run of no playoffs? Like, all right, something's coming here. And like the next year, it's going to come or the next year, you know what I'm saying? - Yeah, I know, and you're exactly right. I mean, that comment was, it was an emotional one, but it wasn't not like, was it? - Yeah, everyone knew that. It's just how the league is now. It's just like-- - It is, that's what it seems like. Everyone wants a quick fix and a quick shot at it, which I get, but like, you're exactly right. What I went through just, it gives me chills, right? Just think about like, the whole journey was incredible. I mean, there was ups and downs, or it's life, right? I mean, there's ups and downs, life all in everyone's lives and I learned so much about myself about my teammates, my brothers, and my own character, and then to grind through that stuff all those years was tough. And then honestly, if there was a moment, yeah, it was when they traded Eric, I was like, my goodness, I came here to play with them and they're trading them. So I definitely sat down that summer and I was like, what am I doing? I'm in my prime, we're struggling. We don't really see a life the most part. We're not spending the cap, we're not trying to get better. We just traded my, I think our best player at the time and it was like, so yeah, there was questions there, there was questions all throughout that. I mean, why wouldn't you, right? I mean, I want to win so bad. I mean, you get that taste and all you can think about is how you want to win again. But it just, to me, I was committed to the Carolina. I've seen so many times where guys could bolt out and grasses and always green on the other side. Sometimes it goes south and it just doesn't work. And I loved Raleigh. I loved the opportunity we had there and I wanted to build something and I wanted to be a part of it. And it was slow. It was funny actually. I mean, they traded Eric. That's at the end of the year and I met with Ron Francis. Obviously, the guy has traded him, but he's like, he's like, you know, blah, blah. And I heard this for years, me and Eric, but this guy's going to be good. Don't worry. We're building something here. And I don't ever get in the summer. And he's like, no, I know what you're Eric's tough, blah, blah. He's like, but we got this Sebastian. I hope you're like, he's going to be good. Like, blah, blah. I'm like, at bullshit. I'm like, yeah, at the time, I've heard this. I've heard this before. I've heard this a hundred times. No way. I've had enough of your crap. Like, this is, so I'm like, all right, whatever. I'm going to take it out of your work hard and I'm going to try to be the difference maker next year. And turned out that gave us pretty good. And then I know, I know, take a slave and show us up. And, you know, and all those guys is obviously started rolling in. We started build some cool. And obviously, with Tom taking over, started pushing the envelope of getting better and spending the cap and creating a team. And then you have, I mean, what more can you say about that guy? I mean, once he took the reins behind the bench, things changed dramatically. Our competitiveness, the way we play our aggressiveness, the details, and then just the day to day consistent grind that he brings all that kind of mixed in together. And it was just, it was a gravitational pull from everyone. Everyone that came in that room was just like, I feel something here. And you hear about even guys that would have to leave. And, you know, they would shoot a text of the group, which you don't see a whole lot. I don't think. And they're like, man, you guys have something special here. You know, it's like, really fun to be a part of. And, and um, bunch of guys would do that. And, and I felt it too. So I believe didn't I love what we were doing, the way we're direction, we're going. And then yeah, like you said, we just kept getting kicked in the balls. You know, I went after the other, you know, you're after your or have a good team, get a couple injuries, you know, run into whatever just didn't click, didn't click. And I'm like, keep telling the media, you know, it's, it's a matter of just giving yourself a chance. I mean, we have a great team. You know, you got to make playoffs. It's hard to make playoffs. It's not easy. And you just got to keep giving yourself a chance. And, you know, you hope, hopefully it clicks. You stay healthy and you, and you play the way you want to play. And, um, and this year did it worked. And um, 17 years, man, that is just like, it's crazy. And you know, we, we, it was, there was a wild time, obviously. So not 17 in Raleigh, but, uh, incredible ride, um, building something so amazing. And, and to see all these guys, I love to watch them raise their cup was, there was, that was the ultimate goal. And it was just so amazing. At what year would you say you started to like not only hear that, like, oh, you guys got something special brewing here. Uh, could you pinpoint an exact time and just looking at the, like the timeline here, uh, Rod had been assistant coach for two years before you got there. He was still assistant coach for about, I think five years after you got in there, when you got there, were you like maybe a little bit surprised, given like his professionalism, his drive, his knowledge of the game, that it maybe took so long for him to take over as had coach. No, uh, I, so Roddy was as assistant. Um, he, he had respect for the head coach. He, he was doing his job. And, um, I'm sure in the back of his mind, he's like, I think I can do this better. And, and I'm sure he mentioned that to, uh, Ronnie a few times, but, um, over the years, but, um, no, I think when it really started to click and, um, you know, start to go was obviously when, when Ryan took over and, you know, we started pushing playoffs and, and making moves and, uh, and, and climbing the standings consistently was probably the, those moments where, you know, guys coming in now with that, we're really appreciative of what we were doing and how we're doing it and, and having fun with it. We had a blast and he still do. And, and I think that was probably the time. Probably basically when Ryan took over, we started going, but, um, you know, for the most part, um, Roddy, Roddy had a lot of respect. Um, for any coach that was in there, I know he was, he was pretty close, I, I think that's how the story of us, you know, with Bill Peters, I think, was our last set coach for you went, um, and took over, but, um, I remember sitting on, uh, on stand on the ice with him talking to him and he was like, I think I'm done. I'm like, Roddy, you can't be, you can't be. I'm like, I'm like, you need you. He needs you. He needs you. I said you, because I'm like, he's gonna get a head coach. He's not somewhere else. If you leave, like, he was just like, he was over the whole thing. And I was like, I'm like, we'll talk like, and that I was the summer that he ended up taking it over him. You know, we, we, we figured it out that, um, you know, we found a way to get him to where he need to be and where he should have been for all along, but, um, like, you can't leave him. Like, like, what am I going to do? Like, I, like, there's, yeah, like, I was like, basically all my knees are like, you can't, like, you can't leave. So, and, you know, we, we found a way and, man, once he took over, what an incredible ride from there to, and just, it was just like a roller coaster. We were just going to tick tick tick all the way up and it was, uh, it was really cool. That's what I was kind of curious about. So he comes in, you get in, he's been in the playoffs every year, which is now eight straight. But those years where you're coming up short conference finals, second round, like, a couple of those exit meetings, did it, did it turn not, not nasty, but almost like, what, what needs to happen here? Like, what are we missing? Because obviously, you're so good every regular season. You can't get to the top. So there's definitely hard conversations that happened throughout that run the last eight years. Yeah. No, yeah. There's a few and, you know, it's, it's just about getting better, right? I mean, you're just, you're, you're tweaking at, I think, then, you know, you see a lot of a few teams here and there that, you know, they blow it up because they can't quite figure it out, but like, my goodness, you're in, like, if you make playoffs, you're, you're a great team. Like, you look at the, like, I know, you know, where it was big, all of a center's fans started this round. Like, but they were, they're a legit, you know, they were good, man. They were fucking good. They're a legit team. They are and they, they, they, they had, they have great pieces and, you know, you, you do want to tweak it a little bit. Or whatever it is. Like, you, you're, and you think any player, any team that's, you know, making playoffs, there's no question, like, anytime I've ever made playoffs, like, I have aspirations, we're going to win this thing. Like, why, like, why not? Why not us? And, you know, we have a great spot. So like, I think, like, there is, there's something said about, you know, of, of, of, of just, just tweaking. I mean, you don't want to, you feel like you have a great core and you have the right, right mix, but you just need to just just continually try to get better. And that's just like day at a time, it's, it's a corny thing that, you know, Bill or strength guys says, you got to go one and oh, it's just about trying to get better every day. And, and that's just tweaking with players too. And, and stuff like that. So we had that a few hard conversations about how we can get better. And, and finding ways to, to just get us over the hump. And, and I think the healthy thing was a big thing too. I think there was some years, man, we had some great squads and it just, you know, it doesn't take much. I mean, you know, I mean, you could, you can go down line or even this playoffs and the teams we played, they had a couple injuries and it's hard, it's just hard. So, you know, we were, we were very fortunate and blessed to stay healthy, which is big. And, but also, you know, we, we brought in some players that are incredible, I mean, incredible additions on top of everyone else just executing that much better. And, you know, we found a way to pull it up. Sure, don't tell ski. One of the biggest tweaks you guys made was getting ranting and a couple of years ago. And then, you know, he essentially says he doesn't want to be there. What was the whole thought process with you? I mean, obviously, you're the leader in that room. Like, what was the whole process, the chatter with the boys in there? It must have been crazy times, right? You get one of the biggest guys. Yeah, that was, that was wild time. I was, I remember telling the guys after it was all said and done. That was the weirdest, like, few, weird for fans. Let alone. It was so weird guys. Well, I mean, I, and I get it. And I felt bad for Rance too. Like, he, you know, he wasn't really expecting to get traded. And, you know, he was, he was hoping to sign a car ride or whatever was. And obviously, like, he has his own story. So it is what it is. So we have like a star player sitting beside me on my right. And he's not sure what's going on. He's trying to play his best. He's struggling out there. He's frustrated. And like, Roddy's kind of tiptoeing around because like, we want to sign them. You know, it's like an end. I don't want to carve them. Yeah. And he's like, yeah, but he's not really doing kind of what we like them to do. And, but also like, he's so talented. And you're like, well, I get it. Like, you know, and he can make plays and you're like, okay, well, we'll figure that out. But like, we also need to know he's going to be here. And it's like, it was the weirdest time. And even for me, I was like, I didn't know what to say to him for the most far. And it's like, it's tough. It was weird. And then yeah, honestly, we were obviously just hours of time when he was playing and we were winning losing games. We knew we had a great squad. And then you know, we like, I remember telling talking to Marty. And I was just like, I, we just need this deadline to be done. Whether he stays or not, I don't care. Once that deadline is done, we can we can finally just go like, and then we let out, you know, he obviously left. And then I think we won 10 straight right after, right after the deadline. We were just bossing. And I were like, finally, just like, just do what we need to do and play the way we want to play. and whoever we have, let's just go. And we did. And yeah, it was, it was a weird time though. It was one of the weirder moments in my whole career, really. - Yeah, that's like, well, we had Tom Dundinon who wasn't an electric guy, right? Like he speaks his mind like with us, I couldn't believe how good. I actually had a couple of people reach out like, oh, that guy is great, but when he came in, and you mentioned already, spend into the cap, like to have a guy who wants to win, but also is kind of demanding of winning. That may be intimidating to some guys, but you must have loved it. Like, all right, now we have like an owner who's like, wake the fuck up here, guys. - You're exactly right. I mean, that was, that was a big thing too. It was like, I thought, you know, with me and Eric and a cult piece to be had, I was like, man, we can be a good squad. And we just never really, we just kind of hope in, you know, we're hoping that we're gonna be good enough. And you know, this, this player that they were talking about, he's really gonna be panning out and you're like, okay. And then you start the season, you're like, I don't know, and then it's just like, and that's all it takes. The game is so close. Like, this league is so incredibly close. So, you know, you get on a couple of streaks down the other way and then you're out. Like, you know, whether you're three points out or whatever, but you're out. So, you know, when Tom took over, it would have been much more incredible if Eric was still around. But, yeah, man, he pushed the envelope. I remember sitting with him right off the bat and he was like, all right, what do we got? What are we doing here? And he was just picking my brain. He's picking everyone's brain. And I mean, the amount of data that I got like, shoves into his brain and spits out like amazing stuff. It is, he's incredible. I don't understand how, where he gets the time and how he does it all, but a guy that wanted to win. He, that was it. It was like, there, you could see it. And that's, I mean, it was so such a breath of fresh air and he was willing to spend the on the players to get the right players and keep him and try to push any bit buttons to get better. And he was, like I said, it was the perfect storm between Roddy taking over and Tom pushing out that, you know, we just started to build something really cool. - If you're saying that about his numbers and analytics and stuff like that, what do you make of Tulski's? - Yeah, Tulski's his favorite person in the world. - Yeah, he's a fan of Tulski indirectly. So I mean, the guy's, he's a mastermind back there. - I heard you guys all let him near the wives lounge. - Yeah, that's too handsome. - Oh, yeah. Now, yeah, we keep him away from the girls. I mean, he's a chick magnet for sure, but he's incredible. Obviously, he's done a great job. You know, he plays part, but you know, you start getting to know him and a lot of conversations, a great dude that, again, wants to win and just wants to be a part of something special. And he's played his part incredibly well and he's done an amazing job for our group. Did you ever ask him the backstory to like, what happened with Stankhulvin? Like, are you, are you on that type of level with him? When like, I believe the story goes that one of the guys, one of the scouts said to him like, this guy is, he's a hurricane. Like, I don't know how else to describe it. He's a hurricane. So like, did he already have that kind of teed up in case it didn't work out or were they scrambling after they made this trade to figure out, oh, fuck, how do we, how do we get out of this? Yeah, I think the story, you did kind of spill it all for us because obviously it was a, you know, obviously a bit of a whoopsie on their part. And, you know, I mean, it could be a long run. It could have worked out better for us or any better for us. But, you know, it was a, it was a nice of Brandon. I think there was, you know, four or five teams that he was willing to sign with, I think. So he gave us an opportunity to kind of flip him and, and so that was very, he didn't have to do that because he said, sorry, I'm just gonna-- Yeah, that's true. He was just like, oh, I'm playing this out. Like, we were like, all right, well, we're gonna try to win with you and then we'll see what happens. But, you know, you know, it was nice of him. And, and then, yes, obviously, Stanks was a, was a nice addition. I mean, I'm obviously a nice addition, but like, I don't think he was just, I don't think they wanted to give him up, but, you know, for Gaelic Brandon, you have to. And, he was a good young player. And, I remember actually, in a few texts from a few guys that played in the West, and, you know, I obviously didn't play in Stanks at the time, but they're like, oh, you got a good player there. And, I was like, well, he jumped them online right away and I, like, yep, he is good. Like, he's legit, and he only kept getting better. And, you're exactly right. He's like, can you act through and through, like, his competitiveness, his drive, and his day-to-day, and how he competes and tries to get better every day is, he's up there with the greats and on our team. So, and just a solid dude, man. Just a good dude that wants to compete, and that's those the guys we love. - For a guy that won so early in your career, and then obviously, you know, win against him this year, like, where there are times, you know, going into the summertime, you're like, ah, I might not play next year. This might be it. And then, if so, and then this year, after winning, is it like, okay, I got even more years now. Like, it let even more of a fire. Are you kind of like, okay, I got maybe one or two more. - Yeah, well, I mean, this is how my brain works, I guess, at times. But, you know, I've always been hard on myself, and probably too hard in regards to maybe me. - I remember you being very hard on yourself. - Yeah, and as a rookie. - And I've gotten better with that over the years, but I truly, when I signed that 10-year deal, I was like, I just, I don't want to get bought out. Like, I was like, I was like, I want to play this to the end, and I would be happy. I mean, that's incredible. Like, I mean, who can, you know, so that was like, literally my goal, especially through the dark years, it was like, is this guy any good? Like, and I was like, I think I'm good at it. You know, it was like, but like, and you know, it's just like, I didn't want to get bought out. I wanted to keep competing and played to my, what I committed to, you know, my commitment to the deal and with the team and what we were doing. And that's what I wanted to do. And then, and I started rolling at the end of that, and, you know, to be honest, I was kind of right after that 10-year deal, because I was like, I was almost a one-year at a time. I didn't know what they wanted either. I was like, I'll play for anything right now. I'm so excited to get back in there and play for this group with these guys and try to win. So yeah, we snuck in a four-year deal, and I was like, rather, I'll just just start with one. And, you know, it goes by quick, man. Like, it's like, it's crazy that I'm at the end of it again. And, you know, I have a year I had, you know, one year left, and my mental state is, I mean, I gotta go work out here at some point in the summer. You know, I go use my brother's gym, 'cause I'm too cheap to make a better one. So, and it's like, you know, he's already sleeping. I'm up at six and getting there early, and I'm dreading it, but I'm also just excited for the next year. So I gotta do it, you know, it's gotta be done. And, but, how much slower am I gonna do that? I don't know. And, I mean, I am exhausted with it. What I have told the guys recently, the worst part about, you know, being out of this beautiful lake, let's go an hour drive, hour in a bit, just to get on ice, right? So, really? It's a lot, it's a lot of longest drive. It's kind of pain the butt. I'm especially out of work out, and then, you know, I'm changing, and I'm going in a car. You're sitting in the car, your hips are tight. You know, you're, you're by the time you get out of the car, you know, already bent over level of crap, and then you get on the ice, and you just have to skate around for 30 minutes, where you can actually feel like you can bend legs, and then you finally get there, and you like, then you just bag yourself, and you get off the ice and go. So, it sucks, and it's not that enjoyable, but it has to be done, you know, so I would do it. But this last summer, last few summers, Eric's oldest boys are, you know, they're getting older, and they're like, we need to skate. Like we, you know, we're trying to get better while blah, and like, all right, like, comes here with me. Like, and Eric's like, I'll run the practice, I'm like, all right, so, you know, and then next thing, you know, next thing, you know, I have, I have my daughter. My daughter. I have my little, and it's like, I'm sitting in this room, and it's like, you know, it's Parker, Levi, Finley, and Henry, my son, and Laila, and Abigail, and, you know, Jack, and they're all tying their skates, and they're all getting out there as a, like, in one room, and like, I'm like, it's incredible. Like, like, it's so cool. And I, I, I, granted, I didn't get as much work, probably as I should've get down out there, but for the most part, I got what I needed, you know, and you got memories. Yeah. And sharing the game, right? I mean, it's like, it's, it's in our blood in the Salt family, and, and the next generation, it just, I'm, I'm excited to literally go up, I know Eric already bought ice, and I'm excited to get out there with those guys, and just, just enjoy the game and practice, and grind with, with my neck, nieces and nephews, so. So you're already obviously back in Thunder Bay? Yes, I, I just got back a couple of days ago. Yeah, I was excited to get, get to Lake Man, and there's no better place, just to turn the mind off, and, and chill out, so. Where does Eric live in the winters, in the winters now? He's a, he's a, he's a, yeah. Okay, okay, so his boys are what, like, 10, 11, right around there. I know, the oldest is now 16, he's high school, so he's playing Southwest Christian high school, I think. And, uh, um, Finley, or sorry, his middle, Levi, it will be jumped up high school hockey soon. So, um, yeah, he's playing the mix and, uh, um, and Eric's, Eric's basic coach and number, assistant coach there, and, and helping out. So it's, uh, it's fun, it's fun to be a part of, for sure. You'll be playing with one of his kids before, uh, before we know it. Yeah, that's why he's still playing. One year at a time, there he is. Yeah. No, I was going to say is like, is Mark and Eric, are they being like, dude, don't retire? Like, he just plays like, 'cause that, I know that's what I tell everybody now. I'm like, play as long as you can, just to just continue to do it. I have heard that line, like multiple, multiple, multiple times, from a lot of different people. So I will do, as you said, right, yeah. And so I'll try to play as long as I can and, and, uh, and I'll enjoy it. It'll be good. There will be, there will be times that'll be tough, but that's, that's all good. So I had everybody tell me to retire. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's time, buddy. It's time. Just got drafted. Yeah. You mentioned the trainer and his influence on the team briefly. We heard the backstory of the Cinder block in it weighing 35 pounds that you guys were made aware of. But you mentioned he's a character too. Like what? Like what about him is like so inspiring or you know, what makes him an unbelievable trainer and maybe more sold than other ones around the league? Yeah. Billy, I don't know if you heard many stories. I mean, I won't start spewing them all out. But he's a jersey guy through and through whatever that means to you guys with a lot of other people. He's a character for sure. And man, he does a great job of bringing the guys together. I mean, we do like a stretch before, you know, every practice. And you know, you think team stretch and most guys literally, most guys that come in right away, they're like, oh, my goodness. Like we're doing your shit. No, like you're like, this is stupid. And then you know, you start doing it. And this guy's, I mean, Bill is just such a needy. And just so it literally brings us together and it is so good and so funny. But also like man, the guy works and he wants to get better. It's just all basically what we've built. I think Caroline is like, we're going to work, but we're going to have fun doing it. And it's, and that's it. And like, and he's the epitome of that. He, uh, he didn't, you know, he, I don't think he have a job anywhere else. He needs to be with the guys of like 20 guys in the room. Sure thing. Cause like, I think he would have got HR called on him on any other topic. But like, he's been incredible, dude. And, um, but a hard worker and, um, and it's just another guy that you can just gravitate to and really just, um, jump on board. And, um, you know, he, uh, he's helped me a ton, not only just like the bring the team together, but just me personally with the workouts in the summer, I keep my body ready. He's done an incredible job. And, uh, yeah, Billy, uh, he's, um, he's, he's an unbelievable addition for, for, he won't be mic'd up in the behind the scenes. Look, run to the car. Yeah. I love. Yeah. There were probably anyone liners that, uh, I mean, you probably wouldn't be able to play a half the stuff now. Um, but, uh, yeah, he's, he's, he's, he's skipped it. Like, I remember, so I was struggling in Anaheim and, and gets he grabbed me one day and he's just kind of talking to me and I'm wondering for you, like, if Aho's getting riled up, you know, he, you see him get angry or spec, she's going through a dry spell. Are you somebody that's kind of taking guys aside one on one once in a while and helping them through good time? Tough times are really pumping up during, during, uh, great times. If you know what I mean, like, are you talking to guys individually? Yeah. There's, there's certain players for sure. Um, you know, I've had conversations with, uh, um, I would say even just last year, I bet you're staying, you know, he, he didn't struggle to start the year, but I mean, actually pretty incredible. Just stepped right into a centerman's job and, and just tried to figure it out. And he did, you know, it, it was slower probably than he'd light throughout the start. So he was frustrated. I'm like, man, you're doing fine. Like, you know, they'll let you grab little things, you know, especially you had some ups and downs last year. So you grab, um, fish, you know, I don't worry about fish, man. That guy's just like, okay. Oh, man, he, like, he gets, he gets fucking pissed off out there. Yes. And I love that. And I, I think it's good. Now, I let them do that. That's all good. But he's so dialed. He's got, he's, he's a smart, he's so smart. And, um, and I don't worry about him ever. I'm worried about, Marty. I don't worry about those guys. Um, and, uh, and, you know, and they do a great job of taking care of one else too. So, um, yeah, there's times where there, there's moments where you were really watching guys. Um, and, you know, there's some ups and downs and everyone has around you. It's just no one's going to play incredible for 82 and now 84 somehow. But like, um, you know, it's like no testing though, but no testing. We had great. Um, so it's, uh, it's, uh, it's, uh, it's, uh, it's fun to be a part of that too. They're different, um, obviously when I was with you with, but, um, just, uh, it's a cool thing to be, to, yeah, come alongside guys who are struggling or, you know, there's ups and downs. I've seen so much. So like, you know, I hope, I hope it resonates with the guys by grabbing every now and then and, and, uh, you know, from what I've seen, it seems to seem still for a few times, but, um, but for the most part, you know, the guys we have in that room, uh, that room, uh, I don't worry about all a lot of guys and, um, just a lot of competitors and that's, that's the way where I like, so that means you're doing your job by not having to babysit so you're leading, but I was going to ask you, uh, I know a lot of the credit and a lot of talk has gone to bussy, but, you know, Freddie guy got you guys there, right? Like he was unreal for you guys. He won you a couple series and just the guy that's battled injuries battled, you know, shitting the media and just, so I was so happy for him. I got to know him at a skate, uh, one summer unbelievable guy, but like, what did he mean to your group? Yeah, Freddie, uh, man, you're exactly right. Talk about, uh, the roller coaster is for sure, especially in Carolina with some injuries, ups and downs and, and all the things in between and just alone in that playoff run, like, you know, obviously they're, I'm sure there's media talk about who we're going to start this and that, you know, bussy was incredible. Um, Freddie's been our backbone for so long. Um, he's steady. He's, he's, he's been unbelievable and, you know, we, we, we won with him and my goodness, like, well, he, he, I mean, that all of the series, like, he, he played, he was by far the best player in that whole series and, you know, you know, more or less that game, that series could have went seven at any moment and he was a big reason why we, you know, we got four straight there. Um, and, and, and so on and so forth. Um, right to the finals. I mean, um, you know, he gets, gets, gets damed up and, um, and, and can't play and, um, truly though, if you guys, if he plays that out and, you know, and plays, you know, plays the way he was doing the whole time, like, he's a cost-mife winner. Like, that's, that's, that's who I, I would see it as and he was incredible. Or back when the whole time and, um, you know, so to see him go out and not be able to pair our part at the end and, um, it was a bomber form. And, you know, I'm sure he wanted to be in there so bad, but, um, but we wouldn't have been there without him. So he was a huge part of that win. And, um, and then obviously, you know, with, uh, um, Mr. Lemiro and down and all that's all out of motion and, and, and, and, you know, the way he carried himself through that all was incredible. And, um, so it was, uh, it had to go to him right away and, and my mind and, and, uh, was just so happy to see him raise that cup. If you want to touch on Bussie, too, I mean, what, what, uh, what a pick-up off of waivers to start the year. And he has that incredible start, too. So just to have two guys help kick and, and get it done. That's like, yeah, yeah. And like, were you guys, were you guys very confident when he was going in in the finals? And I was going to ask him particular because you mentioned, like, you thought Freddie was supposed to be the cons might guy, but you go against Vegas and you have the series, you didn't know the said you win it. Like, what a fucking rip, man. Yeah. I mean, that was, yeah, that was a wild ride. I mean, for me at the end, but Buss, I mean, he, uh, when he, when he teed jumped in that, like, someone was like, I mean, some of those practices and stuff. You're like, okay, I see it. I see it. And then, you know, you get him a game, though, man. He, he's like, he's just, he's so dialed in chill, but also like, he's big and like, just gets in the way. And then, you know, next thing, you know, you know, we're, we're four four five, we're five four in a minute left. And he comes across and just makes his massive say right at the end. And, you know, we, we get this win and we're moving on. And, you know, another win is like, and Allison, like, you know, five game straight, just like, you know, massive save again, you know, just to just at the end, you know, and it's just like, he has, he had this gamer feel, you know, it's just like, you can feel it. Like, you know, whatever the score was, like, he's going to feel it. Like, he, he understands, like, that he's got to be, this is the moment that he needs to step up for us. And he, he just had that, um, that attitude. And, um, and he made, he made some amazing saves right off the bat and, uh, and then a crazy run for him. Um, you know, NHL, um, you know, records, you know, coming in starting and winning those games are so cool. See, um, and you, how you talking to me, he's like, like, he said, he was apparently working in Cholale, like five years before. It's like, it's the wild story. Oh, yeah. Like, did any of you guys know who he, like, when he was picked up, I'm guessing not many people knew, even like, dude, you didn't give me a walk that the fuck dude, charge me extra chips, double chicken pieces. Yeah. And like, you know, no, I wouldn't say it probably a whole lot of guys, you know, knew, but, um, well, once you jumped on board in that first game, we're like, oh, we're, I think we're going to know this guy. And, um, just, uh, just, uh, just a, just an amazing dude to just chill, um, you know, uh, ready to work to and, and, even kill and no, no drama just just wants to go play goal and, and, and say in the awesome stage. And that's, that was, that's the exact what we need. For you personally, from like a self-motivating perspective, obviously, stand in the cup, but like, were you like, this might be your last chance at it, and you all of a sudden go nuclear in, in the last series. And I would imagine that was probably your guy's toughest opponent. I know Ottawa, I've heard you guys talk about how, I know it was a sweep, but I was tough. Vegas was kind of a different beast. And quickly, sorry, Stalsey, because this goes into that. Do you remember, um, do you remember Gary Roberts telling us that when we lost Detroit about how you guys don't understand? Like, you know, you might, do you remember that? Yeah. No, and that's a great, that's a great story because I, I talked about guys about that before and I remember sitting there when, when Rob said that. I'm like, I don't, I don't believe that. Like, I know, I know how big this is. Like, I like, I, it's like, I was like, let's go. Like, we need this now. Like, it's all like, I'm thinking about. So, but maybe some guys didn't, I don't know. That's, that's the way my mom was going. So that speech may be resonated with other guys that maybe need to hear that. But, um, I didn't want to say that with our group. I was like, I think everyone, what was going on, what need to be done. And Lily watched all our games. So we didn't change anything. So it wasn't like there was a moment where I was like, man, what are we doing? It was like, no, we'll figure this out. We'll get done. We'll keep moving forward. And there wasn't really a crazy amount of hiccups in that finals. I mean, wild series no getting wrong. But we were heading the right direction. But I think that series was, I mean, I don't know. It felt like God was behind me, and I was just moving forward. And I like all I could think about, honestly, best was like, yeah, I went nuclear. But I was not thinking this is my last shot. I was like, these guys need to win. I was like, that's the care factor that we've talked about in our room and how it's grown over the years. And then Brody said that's going to be our difference maker. And our C5 is, you know, compete consistently. And then you care for each other, and then you have your culture. And that care was a big one for me, especially in that finals. And I was just like, all that kind of pushing in my brain was like, these guys need to win. Like they need, it has to happen. Like I'm like, it has to happen. And I mean, if I said I have to win, maybe I wouldn't have played as well as I have, like all I could think was how I need to see Slavo with that thing. I need to see how I need to see Marty with it and all these guys. And that's what I kept running through my brain throughout that finals. And obviously, you know, things were clicking. And the puck was going in, and I was feeling it. And, you know, it was, it was incredible ride. And I would never have dreamed anything like that. I mean, I'm sure a lot of you guys, I know Jordan Stulls, the heck of a player of all blah. But, you know, for that to all click for me personally, was an amazing, amazing moment I would never dream of. And it's still I really hasn't sunk in. I mean, I'm sitting up in the lake. I'm trying to get at the sink in and I just can't get it figured out. But maybe a will one day, I don't know, maybe never will. I just always feel like a dream. But it was, it was really cool. And yeah, what a ride. Just one quick follow. Is it hard in those circumstances for you to stay in the moment? Like I would, like my biggest problem is like, you know, when you're, even when I was going for a call or a cup and it's not even like a comparison here is you're just like, you start sometimes your mind gets a little bit ahead of yourself. And you're just like, stay in the moment. Stay in the moment. It's hard to do. And did already winning help you with that? It must have, right? Yeah. It helped for sure. Not three decades ago, honestly, I mean, once you get into the mix, it was to be honest, like, I always found that even each series that run, the first game is always hard for me. Because, you know, there's so many whats and you don't really know what this team is going to be. Like, you don't know what you're up against until you play that game. You get into the, into that first game, when or lose, you're like, and after every one of those game ones, I'm like, okay, like we can figure this game out and, you know, we can win this series. You know, it's like, so, you know, and once you get into the series, you know, to turn your mind off is really hard. And I'm, as I'm telling you by the end, it was, it was really, really hard because like, we were that close for me to like grab this cup was, was insane. So, yeah, I was, I was up in the middle of the night slot, just trying to bury my brain and, and turn it off and it wasn't easy, but just more, more excitement and, and anxieties to just getting the game started. Like, actually, the hardest part was just like, once that puck dropped, I was like, finally, I can just, just play and not have to thank really, and just play the game and I love and, and see what we can do with these fellas and try to win, like, and then the game would be done and I'd be like, all right, like, and just like your face, you're counting down in the minutes until that next puck drop is you finally feel free of just like going on playing and not thinking. Um, so it is hard. It's, it's, it's exhausting, and that's, that's a big part of, of the playoff exhaustion is just like, you're, you're just trying to calm your body down, you know, chill out and, and, but it's hard to do, and, and especially if close you get, um, it was incredibly hard, um, you know, to, to get your mind right and, uh, and get your rest and then get ready for the next one. Well, you mentioned the first game being the hardest, then I believe it was the first game of the entire playoffs when you and Brady dropped the gloves and said, like, what happened there was it, you have a nerves, was it him asking you, vice-first, like, how did that all happen? Because it was fucking iconic and when it happened, I'm like, this is a start of a DVD championship. I know. You know, tidal things. Yeah. It was, um, yeah, I mean, he's, I mean, you know, Brady, he's, he's an exceptional player, physical player. It demands it, um, and plays, plays hard and, um, honestly, I, I didn't even really think about it much before the series started, um, you know, but, uh, kind of just before the game, I'm like, oh, shit. You might ask me to fight. And I was like, all right. That just popped in your head. Yeah. I kind of did. I was like, I mean, I saw it. Well, championships, whatever you did, the, you know, the four nations staying. And I was like, oh, that's, I'm like, maybe we might do it this time. And, and then I kind of left that at that. And then sure enough, like, it's like, you started some, like, okay, and I'm starting against him. I figured I was playing against him. And, you know, I, I'm lined up to the draw and, you know, he, he kind of pokes his head up from the side of the circle. He's like, we're going to series. I'm like, okay. And then he's like, you want to do it now? I'm like, all right. And that was it. Like, and, yeah. And, yeah, I mean, gentlemen, all the way from kids and, yeah, just kids in kid, but, yeah, it was, you know, it was a cool moment. You know, I think it really, I think about our team together. I, you know, I think those Panther series, I think we, we got, you know, we got a muscle of it too much. And I regret not being doing a better job with that stuff. But, I think not, not really fighting, obviously, after that. But, the way we held our own against a really, a really physical team and a tough team, I thought you see a lot of other guys start caring for each other and, and, you know, stepping in in certain situations and there were moments there that I hadn't seen in the past from our team. And, and, and maybe that was part of the, you know, Shrek and I a little bit right off the bat from what I did, but, you could see, I think, I was ready, I was ready to do anything now. And we, I want to win. That was all I kept. And so, if that's what it takes and whatever I'll do it, I'll do it for the fouls and we'll, we'll find a way to win this thing. If I get knocked down, you guys better fear it, I'll be like, you know, it's like, well, let's, let's do this thing. So, that's, that's kind of how it went. Obviously, you know, a momentum we got from that was incredible. Our fans were behind it and the boys rallied around it and it was, it was a cool moment. The fan base is nuts to me because, you know, you saw some of the tough years in the building's empty. And I think the mega church. Yeah. And Tom Dunton mentioned it and all of a sudden now it's like that place is rocking. It's a smaller building, but I'm, I'm, I'm interested off the ice. Like, are you getting stopped and recognized? Or is it kind of that feel of just like, Hey, when they're at the games, they're unreal, but there's not much going on in terms of like, fans coming up to do it dinner or anything like that. No, no, it's, there's still a little bit of that, but I don't, I mean, the self, and there's some just some good people out there and they have, they have respect for it. I would say a good story for that would be after we won. We were sitting at the restaurant. The guy's a pre-game house. Oh, yeah. It's going to be a chain. It was, it was all garden, actually, you know, it was, uh, it was a place of Babachi and, um, Benny Hanna's, Benny Hanna's bus. He's got a fucking boy time job. He's fucking. Everyone's diarrhea and every year with a heartbeat with a rice. He's like, Hey, wait, you see the ball, I'm gonna wall it. I'm making league minimum again for the next six years whipping shrimp in the stalls, he's mulled. Um, we're sitting on a fucking jar versus buddies, but they have to get the extended table. We're sitting on the patio and, you know, um, the cups out there and we're just having a few beers hanging out, trying to figure out what we're going to do with this thing the next day. And, uh, and people started figuring out and we didn't tell them we were coming besides the restaurant for the most part, but, and just very politely, they all just started making a line and just like taking photos and, and we would just sit there and they were enjoying the cup, which is what you want or you want them to experience it. And they just like, they made this nice lawn. They were taking photos and everyone take their turn and they would leave and they would say, good job, guys. And like, it was just like, I mean, it just like, I couldn't imagine that in any other city. It wouldn't, it wouldn't be like that. And like so much respect, but, but so much energy and so much love too. And, um, I say, like, another story with Arquiniacs is just like, in that, that building is incredible, man. Like, it's so loud and, um, but, but they cheer like non-stop. Like it's not like they're cheering for an amazing player, you know, a couple of quite, like it's like, it's like, there's just a, there's a belly behind it. You know, like all the time and especially class, obviously, but I'd say like, a great example is game five. We're up three, nothing, I think, you know, they did, they scored that three one, you know, and, you know, there's some time left, but like, you know, usually most places just go quiet and like, and they did, like, you go a little quiet, but like they literally just started, like, before that they even stopped the puck and the place just starts to own dessert. But like for nothing, like they hadn't even dropped the puck and also you're like, another roar and like, let's go, you, we got this, like, and no, they're behind us. Like, and like, it gives me the shows because like, that's so cool. Like, that's, that's something I like, they're, like, they're, they're a part of it, right? I know it. And they felt it. We felt it. such a cool connection with Thurkeniax and how amazing they are as a fanbase. And man, that city is grown and it's a it's a it's a hockey town. No questions asked like you walk around and and see what I've seen over the years. It's grown tenfolds and it's it's been so cool to be a part of and call really home. That's the aspect of it that that it was just a place that was like all down south and now, you know, people really want to play there. And I think that the fans have a lot to do with that. You know, people may think that's crazy, but all of a sudden you see a fanbase that's just so passionate about the team. And I don't think you guys deal with like there's markets where the boobards may come out a little bit, but there it just seems like they just love the team. It doesn't it doesn't really happen the way it has other place. Even when we would criticize like on the pod and we would post the clip, the fans would come at us like rapid dogs. They would be they would be it might have been Dundin burner accounts being like, you can you check the fucking analytics. You check them out. It might have it goes to you and these guys check out these spreadsheets. They like you said, they have you guys back and then just going to experience conference finals there, which was I guess my last question is like, when you guys lost that first game, the Montreal, were you kind of super even keel or was there a bit of anger inside of you or were you more like fuck, we just had 12 days off because we swept the first two rounds were a little flat. There was all those things that they're honestly all that ran through my brain for sure. That's a great question. No, there is there's some deep scars there. Obviously the media love the you know, the line of us not being able to win games in the service final and obviously you know, we were rolling through two teams and then you know, we get wax first game. You're like what in the world? Like what? No, like and I was like and every time I sat down the bench and like there's also a breakaway. I was like what is going on? What do we do? That's like that. That was honestly that whole playoff from is the only time I'm like what in the world are we doing? And it did it did it did look like we know a little bit too much time off as much as I hated that question between series. I'm like it was just like we I mean, we practiced nonstop and it's like, you know, what would you say? Is it rest or is it not like what's best? I'm like, would you want like should we have given them two games against really? Like what do you think? Like of course we're going to win every game no matter what. And then we'll figure it out after that. Like we're going to take the rest. We're going to enjoy it. I felt incredible. Like for me as like for me is like I may I honestly don't like truly believe if we went six, seven, seven and rolled into that finals. I wasn't playing the way I was in that finals. There's no way. There's no way. But I was I felt amazing. Like could but be rightfully so because we had that rest. Like that that is for sure. You know, obviously the young guys might have been fine. But for me personally, like it was there was for sure a game changer for us at the end and and it helped me a ton. But yeah, that first game I was like, oh crap, here we go. Was there like a speech or a moment? Maybe it was then or in the finals? Could be that send a block story where like you just like something happened and it just like it was poetic and it kind of just righted the ship again. And was there one moment that sticks out the most from like a meeting perspective? I mean, I like the writer. He said, well, I mean, after the game won a Montreal like he e-ripped us and was like, what are we doing? Like that was not awesome. We'll show you. He's like, we'll show you tomorrow. We'll go through the video. And like I said, I think I've said this before, that was from that game on in that series. I think I was the most clinical hockey we've ever played. That was crazy. It was like they couldn't get the pop. I was polishing a turn on television for four years. Yeah, you know, maybe that's just. It was incredible. I mean, I felt like based and they didn't really touch the puck and we just played unbelievable. Everyone did though. It was like, you can see everyone was like, all right, we're we're kicking this door down. We've had enough of this, you know, the season conference BS. And I would say the other speech was actually a big one for me personally when Roddy came in after we lost that overtime. And was it in Vegas 2-1? We were down 2-1. When you came back, came back like incredible, right? I mean, we were kicking ourselves down 4. We're like, let's just, we just got to take Trunks out of them, like, you know, whatever it looks like for here on out the rest of the game and back in from Bang Square 3 goals. Like, shit, we're back in and let's go. And like, you know, and then we tied up and like all the things you're like, you got to feel that momentum is common and we were, we were, we were, we did that. We were playing better, obviously. They had an incredible bounce. We had some bounces too, but, you know, and the game's over. And that's it. And, you know, Roddy comes in and and does his field. And I'm, I'm like, I'm already cross-eyed. I'm like, I'm, you know, pissed, but like, and he does, but like he does the, you know, we lost the game, you know, lost because we came up 4 of all blah. And I was like, "Yep." And I like, I don't ever say never. Like, when he's talking, I was like, "Yep." And he's like, "We're, you know, we can't do that. This and that." And I was like, "Yep, yep." And then just like, he'd tell, like, I was both ready to snap. Marty's like, "You were already blog-askered, but, but, and also that." I left it. Why, why, you were about to snap on Roddy for, like, I was like, "We got it." Like, I was like, "Best." Like, "We got it." Okay. Oh, we got this. And like, and he was like, and then, but after that, he said incredible lines. Like, no, no standard cup run has ever, ever happened where you feel like you're, you're, you might lose it. You might be out. You know, I mean, like, there, there is no run where you ever feel like you're going to doubt that you might lose this whole thing. And there was a moment there, like, we were like, you know, we're down to one on the road and had, you know, a crap, you know, obviously a crap loss and whatever. But, you know, there's always a moment in any run that, like, you feel like you might lose it all. And that was kind of our moment, I think. It was, you know, it was only two one and we got that. But, you know, you get down three one, you know, and, and, you know, it's tough. So we came back. I thought that game four was incredible. And then we kind of took over, I think we took over that series, obviously, I'm in one next three, but we were the better team from then on out after that game. And, more consistent, what we like to do. And I thought that speech was really a really big one for us. When Roddy left the room, did you address the team? Or it was just like, he kind of, no, I think what he said was was good. And I was like, that's your exactly right. And, you know, that, honestly, like, I, I, there, I'm almost where I have been dressed through him over the times. But, um, you know, I didn't, I honestly didn't feel like I had to that, that whole run was like, we lost three games. Like, and we were in like every other one for the most for even that much role. And we were coming back. Like, you know, there was, there was like, what I saw out there, the guys were all in. And, and that's why I was honestly probably so pissed off with that one. Because like, yes, we did lose it enough first, you know, four goals, but like, my goodness, we clawed back and the guys were, the guys had this thing. Like, we had it. We just, we just can't do that again. And, but we had it, you know, so it was, it was, um, I wasn't a ton of talking, but I mean, I didn't have to. I mean, I really didn't have to. There was, there was a few, you know, obviously pregame stuff that, you know, you try to plan to see it and what we want to do before a game. But, um, for the most part, after every game, I felt, I felt good about what we were doing out there. Um, I mean, Halsey and Stank and Blakey, that whole line of you, how you can't, can't say enough about there's, that's the massive reason why we got where we were because of how that line was clicking and all three of those guys and, um, you know, I, I think for me, um, you know, it's a, it was basically, who I wanted to see, but it's, it's my three boys. I mean, it's Marty Slavo and, uh, and Fishy. I mean, like the years that we've been together, I mean, so many times, just like, you know, we went through so much. And I was just, I was just so happy to watch them grab that thing and, and what they deserve and, and they deserve it, man, those guys work harder than anyone. I have to get traded there, played one playoff game, but you can make a petition in the league and approve it like the ruins did with Moxavad, who didn't play at all in 2010, 2011, but still got his name. So it's over. It's 41 or more games in the regular season or one game in the finals. One game in the final. Yeah. Rodgers shut down six radio stations in Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax and Kitchener, Vancouver loss sports net 650 and news 1130 Calgary lost sports that 966 news radio. This is obviously a huge loss for fans. Of course, the people who lost their jobs, we feel terrible for, you know, media has been kind of shrinking and shrinking and, you know, companies are just tightened and belts all over the place. So I do feel fell awful for these people who lost their jobs and again, the fans who lose that connection. And, you know, and obviously, you know, Rodgers has a connection to Toronto. So that feeds into that everybody is, you know, is a Toronto fan and they know they ignore the feet teams out west. So either way, just I want to acknowledge that. That's a tough loss for again, the people who lost their jobs in the fans who have their livelihoods. Man, it's like, you know, it's what keeps you the wheel spinning too. So that's, that's socks. Let's hope these people land on their feet and figure out what the next move is. It's brutal. It's like you said, all right. It's been happening a lot. The two winners of those games will play Sunday, 3pm at East Rutherford, New Jersey. I read that it's the first time ever that the final four in the World Cup are the top four ranked teams in the World Cup. Okay. I saw that. Yeah. So that's never happened before. It's sort of almost reminiscent of like an NHL playoff here where there was so much like awesome games and wild stuff that happened. But at the end of the day, we're still basically have the chalk that's going to be playing for the end of you. Yeah. You guys are going to be over the old across the past. I will be in England for a World Cup semi-final, it'll be eight o'clock, England time. It's five hours ahead of East Coast, right? And he was probably the preeminent like high school sports reporter in the country. And, you know, like I said, like, I choose a stepping stone, but the fact that this guy recognizes, this is what he wanted to do. Peter Salas who played the Pink Panther. He plays like three different roles. Again, old flick, awesome. One of the best black comedies of all time.
