Like, if it was downhill, it was insane. The air was so thin. It was awesome. We had such a good time. I played there once, and I do remember the guy was like, just add like 30 yards to every club. Yeah, it's crazy. You feel like Bryson out there, just smashing eight irons, 195 yards. So, that's pretty sick. Did you feel it on your hike, oxygen-wise? Like, would you get tired quicker? Ripping these things? Yeah, it's the altitude. I don't know how these kids are playing. What is that? Is that like an inhaler for like? Oxygen boost? It's an oxygen boost thing you put. Because these girls are playing three games a day, dude. It's like, I don't know how they're doing a good thing. They're young and dumb, as they say. They don't even know. They don't even know they're tired at that age. I know. It's like when we used to play three hockey games in a day, and you didn't even think about it. And then all of a sudden, you get to a three and three in Wilkes-Barre, Norfolk, and Binghamton, and you're ready to jump out the window of the bus as it's driving along I-90. Biz, very special day for you yesterday at the Wayne Gretzky Hockey Camp. Oh, yeah. I got the nod. And, buddy, what a move by you. Kind of remind everyone of who Chris was. Because I saw you invited him for the day. Yeah. So, Chris, unfortunately, he's back. He's battling right now. He's been dealing with some cancer stuff. And I met him because when we did the Mincy, that whole Mincy week here, when Ole Miss was playing here, when he caught his flight, Chris saved him a seat on the flight next to him so he was able to, like, get on there. So that's how they got linked up. And then they found out about Chris' story, and then we ended up bringing him to the game. He came over here for dinner. But his treatments have obviously continued, right? So he's coming here, like, a couple times a month. And, like, you know, I think his wife's only, he's only able to come, his wife and kid are only able to come, like, every other month. So every time he's here, I was like, hey, text me. And if I'm around, like, sometimes I'm not because I'm in Atlanta for playoffs or whatever it may be or traveling, doing whatever we're doing. But it just so happened he was in town, Gretzky Hockey School's here. I'm like, hey, come with me. And then we ended up going over last night to grab dinner with Ty, Joey, and Christian Fisher, actually, who used to play for the Arizona Coyotes. He used to play for Detroit. I think he might have played in Columbus a little bit, too, who's retired now. But it was a great meal. And we'll get him out, I think, on, hopefully, on Friday when we have all the games as well. But he's, you know, he's battling, boys. He's a great, great guy. He just had a kid, you know, beautiful wife. And he's going to be continuing treatments out here at Mayo. Yeah, it's like, you've obviously seen Mayo here. It's like, I think, other than Rochester and Minnesota, it's probably, like, the best facility in all the United States to treat cancer. Yeah, I think there's one in Houston as well. I forget exactly what it's called. But, yeah, that's a top-tier one in Unreal Bayou. Where did you take him to dinner? We went to this Andrioli's or something it's called. I thought Houston's for sure. I should have given him the Houston's treatment. I didn't want to. I didn't want to. I don't think he needed any extra drama or even throwing down some fisticuffs. I thought we'd go to, like, a chill Italian joint. But, yeah. What a hockey school they got going there. And it was fun jumping on with, like, I did the younger group and then, like, the middle-aged group. And then they have, like, an older group that I ended up leaving for because my feet were killing. But I'm going back on Friday to, like, do all the championship games. But, man, these, like, young kids, man, they don't give a shit. They don't. Are you talking 7 to 10-ish? I think they were, like, the 6-7 group. Like, 6-7. That group of coaching kids. And Keith's brother, Brian, told me before last year, so this was my second year coaching that age, he's like, you have to be just a straight-up drill sergeant. Oh, yeah. You have to make it fun, but then at times, like, just slash them in the head and say, look me in the eye and shut up. And did I ever do that? No. That was maybe an exaggeration. I don't want to put myself in a tough spot here. But they will not listen until you legit kind of snap on them. Okay. So, like, so I was used to it. When I had hockey, I was used to it. When I had hockey schools growing up in my hometown, I ended up having the coaches as my minor league coaches, right? And they were intense in, like, a good way where, hey, man, if you weren't paying attention, like, they would call you out. I told the story on here when I went to Nancy Gruhl, the power skating coach, and I was chit-chatting in line. And she's like, you're done. Off the ice. Walk the plank. But you weren't 6 or 7 then, right? That's probably 10, 11. Yeah, I was probably. Probably around. Yeah, probably around that age. Okay. Like, yeah. Oh, yeah, for sure. Because, like, it was like, you know, you line up and there's, like, other kids all over the ice and stuff. You do the four lines and that's how you start out the power skating style. And I wasn't talking in one of the lines. And then, you know, I'm in the dressing room and my dad walks. He's like, what are you doing? I said, she kicked me off the ice. That is the scariest feeling in the world to tell your dad that. Yeah, but nowadays the kids' parents would be like, my baby would never do that. Your dad probably grabbed you by the ear and was like, It's like, let's go. Let's go to the file house. And I was just going to say, I'm thankful to my dad because he didn't go talk to Nancy girl. He's like, well, you better shut up next time and stop wasting everybody's time. And I was like, okay, awesome. So I just kind of had the approach where I was going to make sure these kids were doing the drill properly and paying attention. And if they weren't paying attention, they were going to drop down and give 10 pushups. Like I wasn't there to just push pucks around. I was there. Why are you laughing? It's great. I don't know how many kids that age, can do 10 pushups. I love it. It's just probably funny seeing them try to get like two. I did say, if you can't do the pushups, you're going to be doing crunches for me. But the drill was, as they were going to want to download. Okay. So the first player in line, he had to stand there and be ready. And if they got, if one of the two teams got possession, they could pass to him. Once he completes a pass. Boom. It ignites him. And then now it's three on two down. Great drill. Great area. Game. Great drill. And, and it puts a lot of emphasis on the kid in line. Cause if the other team was already activated and made it three on two, if you're not ready and you're looking at the ceiling and that puck goes by you and they get the key possession, your guys got to keep battling three on two. Cause you had your thumb up your ass. Look like looking up at the stands at your parents in line. So every single kid you had to remind them, pay attention. Like you're going to bend your knees, be ready to take a pass. So I literally did that for like probably 45 minutes, just like, telling every kid to make sure. But eventually I was like, you know what? I'm going to join their team and huddle them up and kind of make it like, we can't lose this game. And then when you do that and you dangle that carrot, that's when they're like, they're all engaged. You gotta, you gotta like, just make them think that they're playing for something that they're winning like a championship and keep their endorphins pumping 24, seven, every second of every day. And throw them in the cold tub. I'll tell you, biz, you, I need you to have kids at some point. I don't care. I don't know what sport it is. Hockey, obviously, but like, I need you as a sports dad, girl or boy, I think you'd be unreal. Now here's the way to go, Paul, way to go, Paul, as he's just suckering the other team. Oh no, I would never, I would never be that dad attorney in Montreal and mid July. Now biz, here's what's funny about coaching kids and we'll get into the hockey stuff, but this is the fun stuff. Girls at that age are incredible. They were the best on the ice. They listen to every single word. They follow directions. They do the drills, correct. And then you get boys and you're like, what is wrong with you? And what, what, why can't like the girls are coaching girls is way more enjoyable at a young age. They listen. You know, you hit it out of the park with that comment. Cause there was probably, I would say five or six girls that I noticed on the ice, all intuitive, all great skaters. Like they have a good women's program here. Um, I know Lindsay Fry helps out with that. And, but, uh, yeah, no, you, you hit it, you hit it on the head with that one, but it's funny. You say that because like leaving after I dropped Chris off, I'm like, damn, like I, like I kind of want to find a breeder and just start breeding kids. Yeah. Yeah. I think like I might go the surrogate route. I don't know, man. I think you could find a beautiful athletic six foot girl. And all of a sudden you just have machines come in the next few years. Just start surrogate surrogate style. You've been talking, all these years about the stalls, the, uh, who else do we got out there with all the kids, the Hughes is. So I think it's time for you to start. I think it's time for you to have your own little stable. Oh, I met this kid, Casey Mutren yesterday. Who's going to be, I think a first round pick this year. His dad was the quarterback at Boston college, you know, a while back, his other brother played in the Quebec league this year for Moncton. The, the, the dad's a complete tank. And then I'm meeting the 17, 18 year old Casey, kid. It was like my height completely jacked. I said, all right, this is what biz is talking about breeders. The type of people that you need to create monster super athletes. Okay. That is it. I'm also kind of convinced that the mom has a lot to do with it. This is something I've seen more around. Like every stud athlete, like the mom is like big in an athlete. So that might be, you can't just rely on you. Cause I thought I was a breed. We don't want anything with him besides like the toughness. Yeah. Toughness. And maybe the drive he's got drive. Yeah. I don't know about the academic stuff. I don't know about the patients. I was, I was good in geography. Yeah. I was my best class that in current events. Oh, I started trying. Cause I almost failed that. And they took, they almost sat me out. They might get, he's brilliant. Yeah. But going back to that, like Teddy Purcell, like he married that, uh, the volleyball player, like beautiful volleyball players, six, one, like it might be six, four, even, she's taller than Teddy and he's six, two. Okay. He's kind of slouched over a little bit sometimes too. So maybe she is six. Cause he's laughing. He's just laughing at something. We got to, let's do a summer interview with him. We've talked to him in a long time. I saw him in Montreal. He's scouting a little bit and, and, uh, and helping out, um, with Montreal. And, uh, yeah, he, he's working with Adam out still. He does a lot of that breaking down the tape. It was funny. He was showing me clips and he was talking about certain teams, power play and why it struggles. I think he was mentioning, uh, like Colorado, like just having certain handed sticks on certain sides, stuff that obviously I don't know. I'll just teach my kid at a hike. Uh, but, uh, yeah, no, I think, uh, should we do like a little, uh, maybe we can put like a list together, um, or, or get some volunteers who would want to carry my baby for, as far as the breeders. Well, based on the DMS I've seen, you get, there's a ton of volunteers. There's a ton of them out there. I know, but we need the athletic ones. Should we do like a, should we do a combine? For my kids, for my kids, mom, that would be unbelievable. We get 50 women. They got to do the 40 yard dash, the vertical jump. Um, maybe some sort of sit up test, like a plank test. And, and maybe get on the Pittsburgh penguins, uh, uh, test when we were the plan, when we were there, go over there and do pushups. Uh, okay. Uh, how many did you get? I got 300. Good job. And then Rob Scuderi is like, dude, you're an idiot. Why? Then you got to beat that next year. You never want to give a number, you know, you can't beat it in case they happen to watch one day. So the Pittsburgh testing with, uh, what was it? John. Oh, I can't think of his last name right now. That was, if, if people saw videos of that testing, they would, they would think it was like the third league in Switzerland based on like, well, how we were going about things at training camp then. So, um, funny enough, I, can I just quickly mention, uh, uh, Chris, um, and, uh, it's Chris Hilliard. And he's got a charity and a GoFundMe set up. And if you want to help him out, like, uh, you know, him and his family are obviously, uh, struggling right now with like some of these bills and, and everything that comes with, uh, dealing with fighting for his life. So just, uh, just a great human being guys. Like, like whenever I'm around and he's around, like, he's just a guy that you'd like want to be around. So happy, so pleasant. And he's obviously dealing with a shit sandwich right now. So we're going to root for him and he's going to keep fighting. And, uh, and, uh, I think, I think the yak is, um, has done a lot to help him and his family out. So shout out to the yak and big cat and all the, uh, Kate and all the crew over there. And, and another thing too, is I know Menci gets a lot of flack. I was like, Hey, who do you keep up with the most from Barstool? And he says like Menci and Ohio Tate, like they reach out all the time and, and they're still keeping in contact with them. So just shout out to those guys for, for, for being good guys and, and, uh, and taking care of a guy who helped them on the way over here. So, uh, post that link on our social too, biz. No, we talked about it. Cause remember I mentioned how many people were like mad at us for the celebration. Like, Holy fuck. Sorry for having a good time. No. And I know, and I could sense that it upset you a little bit and it's bullshit. And I don't want those people online being assholes. They don't upset me. They don't upset me. I've come to learn that being online is kind of a, a brutal part of our job. It's, it's fun at times. I think back to when I first got Twitter injured, me and Halsey started a Twitter today together, right? When we were out injured, I think it was 2011, if not 12. And it was funny and it was fucking just hilarious. And it's just turned kind of gross and nasty, very mean, very mean spirited for a guy who's gotten really, really mean things said to him for a long time. Now I'm over it. So I can deal with it. I can deal with it. Now I can admit this at the time when I got it, I was disgusted. I was appalled and it really crushed my confidence. Is that pathetic to admit? Maybe, but I got no problem. I'm admitting it funny enough. There's a man who I think his name is Tyler Dello and he was blogging. And then I think the Oilers hired him. Well, now he's a member of the Carolina hurricanes. He's an analytical guy. He's been very, very early on to this stuff. Gee, make sure I'm getting the name, right? Google Tyler Dello is his Twitter name. MC hockey 79. A tweet has resurfaced from me from 2012 where he was, he must've been carving me cause he was doing a lot of oiler stuff. Okay His tweet is deleted, but my response was something like, oh, how do you figure that out in between being in your basement playing World of Warcraft in your mom's basement? Something where I was very rattled that whatever analytic numbers he was throwing out made me look very bad. And so my response has kind of resurfaced because a lot of people are like, how many Stanley Cup championships has Ryan Whitney won? Zero. Tyler Delo has won. He's ended up doing a hell of a job. The guy knows what he's doing. At the time, he was very mean to me, probably deserved it with my play. But that was back when I was sensitive Twitter, Ryan. And now I'm just like, carve me. I don't really care. I got three kids who love me, an amazing wife, and I get to play golf a decent amount while talking to my friends about hockey. So I've been able to overcome the Twitter beatdowns. And in terms of holding a shot, I think it was 152 yards playing uphill into the wind. Whenever Keith hits an eight, I hit a seven. Keith hits a five, I hit a four. Keith hit an eight. It was there, but a touch short. I think it was. Just in the rough, maybe just in the green. But I think we thought it was close. Yeah, we might have. We might have. But our guy, who's our guy that does the approaches at the sandbag? Raleigh Fingers. Yeah. Nate. Nate Dogg. Yeah, Raleigh Fingers. He doesn't really give you a little clap or breakdown unless it's money. So then I took the seven. And what do you know? We got to witness something that may never happen again in a sandbagger. Unfortunately, I dunked the next shot in the water. That sucked. But Keith stuck the next shot. I don't know. I don't know. And we ran away with the match against the three champs. So I want to I want to say thank you to anyone who did say nice shot online or who saw me this weekend and said nice shot with. And I appreciate you. I think I've asked you going in. I think I asked you last pod was that was your first dunk from the fairway. No, I've done that. I've done that a couple of times. I think I've done that four times now for part four. All of a sudden, everything I said, I have everything I said that I have that keeps me confident and loving life is just gone because I'm just getting carved again by Tyler Delo. But hey, running around business house, no, no hard feeling. Got my dog back. The guy has. I got my kids. It's me and Brie and I got the kids. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. I, I, I got a kick out of the end. I got a kick out of the end. an incredible year and such a close team Like, we had nights out this year where it's like every single guy is there. Like, just we're like a really, really close group. And I think the way we did it, you know, like 16-3 in the playoffs, that's pretty awesome. Can't believe you beat Philly. I hope I don't get in trouble for that. I hope that's not disrespectful. No, you believed in your group. No. Fuck yeah. No. Not at all. Man, like, it was pretty. And you know what? Like, it's kind of cool to collect receipts now, right? I just mentioned your fan base is doing that. Your fan base has the right to be crushing people right now. Yeah. Even after, like, the first game of Montreal, obviously our Eastern Conference final, all that stuff, and it was that first game. And we knew we were going to beat Montreal too. Yeah, we did. Everybody gets on the horn, and they're like, oh. Oh, they can't win. They can't win. And then just a gentleman's sweep. Yeah. You guys were like, we need some money for us, bro. Tom wanted another home date. We needed to charge 80 bucks for parking. Tom needed one more home receipt, so yeah. If we can go back to that Eastern Conference final game one, was it just a layoff? Like, it was just kind of like the timing was off. You needed to get back into it. I think so. The game felt like a million miles an hour, man. Like, just being off for that amount of time, after the Ottawa series, we were off for six days, and that didn't feel too bad. But, like, day seven, eight, nine of that 12-day break, I, like, I could tell I lost my game. Oh, yeah. You just lose how sharp you are. Yeah, so that was hard. But I think by the end, though, like, I, like, have no bumps and bruises. Like, we were so rested because we had those sweeps and whatnot. I think that really helped us in the end. I got one for Marty here. Marty, I think that when Dundon bought the team, you were the first trade that was made after he purchased it, and you were one of the longest-tenured guys there. Like, just, like, how proud are you of what you guys have been able to build, and how proud are you at the fact that you've been able to be there the whole time and kind of see it through and go through all those down periods where you guys weren't able to get past the Eastern Conference final, but to then now hoist it with all the boys? Yeah, and it sucks that it took this long, but honestly, like, good things take time, and it is worth it. Like, it's gratifying, and knowing that I've been here for the whole time, and there's times I thought about that I was maybe not going to be here, but I just couldn't imagine leaving, and then they do this without me. Like, that would have ripped my heart out. So just so happy that we could do it here, and. It's been, like, this has been so cool. Like, just, like, showing up to places and not, like, yesterday we went to, like, this little sports bar after our exit medicals, and, like, the joy that it brings people is, that's the coolest thing. The look on their faces when they see the thing is so cool. Yeah. Yeah, let's hear you hold it. Well, Halsey, I got one for you, and Witt brought this up last podcast we did. I remember we interviewed you. I remember we interviewed you in Chicago, and it just felt like you were kind of, like, in a tough spot, right? Like, you obviously still love the game, but you were in a difficult team. I think you were a healthy scratch. Oh, no, we got a blow-up doll. But, like, just talk about the turnaround and, like, what coming to that group's meant to you and obviously getting where you're at now. Halsey, you got scratched by the worst team in the league. Yeah, man. I mean, I saw you guys shortly after that, and that was, like. I don't know. I still felt I could play, but you just got to find the right situation, and I came here, and I was, like. I could tell the way that we played that was going to fit my game, and then, like, just the closeness of the team and Roddy and the coaching staff. It was, like. I could just tell it was going to be good, so I'm pumped. I'm pumped about it. Sorry, we're getting on the bus, boys. We got to get back to Raleigh. Oh, you guys are fine, man. Then to win it and see the people that, like, meant the most to you, how happy they are for you, but how happy it makes them. Like, that feeling is. I can't describe it. Like, watching, like, my kid. Like, knowing my son. My son is going to remember this. Like, he's old enough that he's going to remember this. I said it to him before playoffs. I was like, buddy, I want to win this thing so bad, but I know you're going to remember this, too. And, like, him being on the ice and seeing. Like, it's the coolest feeling in the world. Amazing. Like, there's a lot of things that can be true. And maybe he didn't perform the way that he did in these playoffs with Toronto really ever. But I think that the biggest component of this is like after this run specifically, just let this guy go be happy. Let him go fucking flourish in Vegas. The Toronto days are over. Even Kelly McCrimmon after the conference final, he kind of was like, I think, you know, it's like the jealous ex-girlfriend. Like, let's just move on here. And I think he hit the nail on the head. So I know that there's a lot of people. There's a lot of people in Toronto and Toronto media that, like, obviously they got bills to pay and they need to keep talking about it because it does drive engagement and traffic. But at the end of the day, let's just let this guy be and congratulate him on what could have been a consummate victory. I still would have been okay with him getting it if he would have got it despite the loss. I do think that it being the first year and then the run he went on and the Golden Knights, I can't imagine it's the same thing moving forward. I refuse to think that it's. It's going to be continually brought up there because it was it was just so new. And then to do what he did after the playoff failures in Toronto the first year gone. I get why it was such a big point of discussion. And even after how it looked like they kind of had that series, all of a sudden they lose. Yeah, I mean, I I'm more look at Vegas now, like torches and back. And McCrimmon said in the press conference, he actually said he wanted to coach us. I was like, oh, but we want to go with Ryan Craig, who's been coaching in Henderson. He was an assistant when they were there. He was one of the original misfits as the organization began and became a new team in the league. I guess there was discussion that they didn't want to bring him in when they fired Cassidy. So it seems like no matter what, they knew he was going to be the coach to start twenty six, twenty seven. But at that time, like it's hard to give a guy's first coaching role in the league with whatever it was, eight games to go trying to get into the playoff. So I get that. Oh, buddy, it's a no brainer. Like I think, Jens, you mentioned it like maybe they would have consulted Hannafin. Michael, but at least they had just won a gold medal with him. So like two of your biggest components to your core leadership group, they're automatically just comfortable with a guy who's been there, done that, won a Stanley Cup coach many years. And I in honest, like it was probably like the best plug and play you could have ever picked. could have mckenna there i don't know if offensively his teams have ever been high scoring but in terms of defense like that's something that toronto wanted to address and chica went and got their guy well he's been in toronto before as an assistant right yeah so yeah so you know what the market you mean yeah i um yeah obviously recency uh like recency bias and memory is like the the meltdown in la and how that was all handled but i was just more i guess a little underwhelmed being like oh man i thought they were going to try to make a big splash and or like come in with something new where it's like oh you got this young coach that might connect with the players and i don't know it just feels like the the we're back to the old cycle or rehiring all the older guys and i don't know if this is like who knows like i don't know if like they consulted with austin about this or or he knows austin i'm curious to know like if austin wasn't aware of it what his reaction would have been to this and like oh great a defensive minded coach who maybe doesn't really thrive offensively in his systems like they kind of just had that right they just dealt with that i think that they want to a little bit of change of uh pace as far as the way that they play more puck moving more more distribution from their defensemen so um i don't know i guess the the one word i could use is underwhelmed yeah i think he breaks down video i think that there needs to be these younger former players who are able to step in marty st louis style just because i believe they have a better connection with the players and i believe that they could teach these guys more individual skill sets like i don't think the i think the days of like oh i'm the head coach and you're the player you're gonna do what you're told type about rod with the players that have been interviewed from carolina afterward is the word respect keeps coming up respect respect they they respect each other as if though they're all on the same team fresh blood like i think i agree with what you're saying about like you know the kind of harder coach for that team but i just want a fresh voice i agree with avery like enough of this old boys club bring in a guy that's just you know new ideas and give him give him a shot and someone young i can kind of be there for a long time growing with a you know a relatively young team there's just so much young talented talent like coaching out there that when you recycle guys i i understand the success some of these people have had but it's just as the years go on i mean look at like mcveigh for the la rams right like that guy he was kind of young it was different i i i don't know a ton about football at all but i think when he was hired it was like off the beaten path from what you see in a lot of nfl coaches and that's changed in every league but with all these guys who played more recent and had success whether it's the chl college or the ahl the giving people a new chance like look at wassofsky in san jose i mean yeah he dealt with like minors and in different stops in college and getting to that that point was definitely quicker than most people get to the nhl but he's done a pretty good job so far he has a he's a superstar that's playing there and he's got a lot of talent and he's got a lot of talent and he's got a lot of that really helps but it was a new hire it was it wasn't a recycled vet so yeah look at spencer carberry g said sturm in boston marty san luis like all those guys have had success like yeah bring in a young guy and without head coaching in the nhl with wassofsky um do you think it's since it's a copycat do you think because it's a copycat league we're gonna see more head coaches offer offer up their children as collateral to yes runs to So have you been able to kind of even sit back yet and think about the fact you had one of the greatest years in hockey history winning the gold medal and then the standout? I'm guessing with all the partying, not yet. But at some point, man, it's going to hit you what actually you accomplished in your teams. Like, it's just incredible. Yeah. No, it's something that's special. I mean, it's fully, fully hit me yet. I'm not sure. But I was actually, I was talking to Jarv about it. Jarv woke up at 830 this morning, got a few more holes in before we left. And we were just chatting about it. The gold medal is the first championship I've ever won. In anything, in any hockey level. I mean, maybe a couple state champions, like state championships when I was 10, 12 years old. Nothing like crazy. But like actual, like meaningful championship ever. And so kind of started off on a high note there and then finished it off with the cup this year. It's just, I was, I was unbelievable. Cup's a little bit better, though, because like you win a gold medal and then you're like, oh, shit, I got to get right back to work. Where now is like. You can kind of go on a little bit of a bender all summer, but I would imagine you're not, you're not too big of a boozer. Yeah, no, not a boozer. I took my first sip of champagne out of the mug in the locker room and I was, didn't taste too great. What about gummies? No, no, no gummies for me. They're just, just high on the Holy Spirit. Love it. I want to ask you about that, dude, because like, honestly, like after we talked to you after game one, I believe it was against Montreal. It was a tough game for you. And we were like, we asked you, like, how do you bounce back? And then you were just like, I just like, I trust in my faith and like, fuck, man, it's so inspiring that like, it makes me want to pick up a Bible and even read it if I could read. But like, did you just grow up? They got audio Bibles for you. They got audio Bibles. He's not a good listener either. I'm not a good listener. Talking over the Bible reader. No, no. They got, they got the audio Bibles. You'll be good. Yeah. I know. Yeah. That first game against Montreal by far. I don't know. My dad looked at me after he's like, that might've been the worst game of your career. And I was like, probably was. But for me, I mean, my faith is the most important part. And yeah, when I, when I say like, I really leaned in my faith. It's just, there's, there's a certain piece that comes from having a relationship with Christ where my performance doesn't dictate my, my identity, a lot of guys in hockey, how they play, whether they play great or whether they play bad. It dictates their identity, their mood, all that kind of stuff. And for me, being able to have that relationship with Christ really just helps me stay at peace, regardless of the performance. Just because I know that God loves me, no matter what Jesus already died on the cross for my sins. And so whether I suck at hockey or whether I played unbelievable, it doesn't change his love. So being able to rely on that, going into game two against that Montreal series is really where my focus was. It's like, all right, you still have an opportunity to go out there and glorify God on a world stage. And that's what I, that's what I was wanting to do. That is, that's awesome. Like just given that mindset and how you're able to bounce back and like things like that don't affect you because like, obviously there's a bigger purpose and things like that have, have other teammates who maybe weren't as, as into their faith as you are. Have they ever like approach you to like? Like, like ask for help and maybe go in that direction where it has ended up helping them in their hockey game. Yeah, absolutely. I, uh, I shared a story. Ooh, this happened a couple of seasons ago, but Chatfield, he became a Christian, um, maybe three seasons ago. I ended up baptizing him in my pool. It was pretty special. Uh, but him and I, we had a lot of good conversations on the bus, on the plane, all of it. And then he eventually with our team chaplain, um, accepted Christ. And we've had a lot of good conversations. We've had lots of good conversations since then. But he, he, again, he understands now that his identity is not in the game of hockey because the way we always talk about is one day hockey is going to end. And if you have your identity found in hockey, you're going to kind of be shook up a little bit and try to find a purpose in your life after that. Um, but when your purpose is just to glorify God and everything you do, you don't lose your purpose when you stop tying up the skates. Fuck. I love it. Jacob, speaking of Chatfield, and Trip Tracy said it to us, that he plays every game as if he's going to get sent down after the game. How nice is it for you playing with him? You guys were incredible together. Just speak on what he's meant to your team on the ice, because we just heard what he meant to you off the ice. Yeah, I mean, he's unbelievable. Ever since he came to our team, I've always thought, man, this guy, he just absolutely buzzes out there. So having him on the team, being able to obviously be his partner and have him on the team for so long, it's been honestly just a treat. And then just to watch him continue to blossom into the defenseman that he's becoming, it's unbelievable. And we might not be the most offensive pair there is, but, I mean, I feel like during the playoffs, we got other guys, unbelievable defensemen on our team to provide that offense. So our job is to shut down the other team's top line. And I felt like we were able to do that, for the most part, pretty well all playoffs. And I looked at him after, because I've had a lot of unbelievable partners in my career, from Dougie Hamilton to Brett Burns to Tony D'Angelo, Brett Pesci a little bit there. Like, I've had some really good D partners. But him and I, Chaddy and I, we just, I felt like we shut it down pretty good. And I told him, because he looked at me at one point, I was just like, hey, sorry, man. It wasn't the best. I was like, hey, I've never won a cup with any other D partner. I won a cup with you. And so that's pretty special. Oh, he was, you guys were unbelievable. It was cool to also hear when we talked to you pregame, he learned that busy stick and always in the stick lane from his sister who played hockey. Yeah, yeah, yeah. My sister, she was a solid defender. And I went back after that interview and I was like, I kind of probably messed up because she played boys hockey up until 14 triple A. Like she was, she played 14 triple A in Colorado and she was an absolute beast out there. She wasn't afraid to hit. And so, but then after that, once she switched to girls hockey, once I really started to develop in my game is when I probably learned more, more from her about just positioning and skating and being in the right position with their stick and stuff. Once she started playing girls hockey and wasn't able to hit as much. But no. She was an unbelievable defenseman and definitely learned a lot from her. For you personally, like there's, you played 82 games, three years in a row. You've played 81, you've played 80, 79, didn't miss a ton of games. And then you're injured to start the year. We've oftentimes on this show mentioned that sometimes when you go on a run, it can almost help you because you're maybe a little bit more rested. Was that the case for you? Maybe like, and how hard was it missing all that time when you've never really had to do that? Yeah, it was, it was really late. So hard, I wouldn't say is the right word. It was interesting because like you said, I've never been injured. The injury that I had at the beginning of the season was a super weird, fluky injury in my knee. I had a little stress fracture in it, but like second game of the year, tried to trying to come back because it happened probably a month before training camp started. And then I tried to come back from it and my knee just gave out on me. But it wasn't like a, it wasn't like my muscle. I don't know. It was just a really weird injury. So when I look at a big picture, I honestly, I go back to my faith again and just say like God had, his timing in it for all of it. And even the fact, like I come back, play three games, hurt my shoulder and then out for another three and a half weeks. At that point, I'm not sure if the Olympics are going to happen. Um, and then play maybe for, for three weeks before the Olympics. And, uh, Billy guaranteed called me saying, Hey, we're still going to take you up. Uh, we'll just see where you're at right before. Um, and so I think all of it, honestly, it was just God preparing my body to be able to go on the long run, to be able to play in the Olympics and then make a long Stanley cup run. So. Uh, just really trusted in the process. And again, do that whole time. Never lost my joy, never lost the, the love for the game or just the love, love for Christ. Just because again, my joy is not found in hockey, whether I'm injured or whether I'm healthy, it's just my joy is found in the Lord. And so, uh, that was something I was able to lean into during that time, especially. Yeah. Do you want to go? Are you gone? No. Yeah. I just had one about, you know, you winning Olympic gold and then Stanley cup, which one felt better. Obviously you're battling with the, the, the hurricanes for the last 10 years or so, but you win for your country or you win for your city. Like which one felt better? I can say they both felt amazing in their own way because they, they did. I mean, it's, there's, there's no better honor than representing your country. And obviously the, all the people have lived and fought and died for our country. Like, uh, I know some, some guys down, uh, in North Carolina at Fort Bragg and they were so pumped. I like beyond pumped for us. And when my, my brother-in-law was a Marine for a long time. So like, there's, there's just people that it meant a lot to them. So representing the country, there's, there's no greater thing to do. Um, but then obviously you're in care. I'm in Carolina for 11 years. Like it's my 11th season with the team. And so the city, the people, the community there, the organization, I mean, these, these guys are my brother on this bus. And so it's, it's something that's completely amazing in its own way. Uh, that's what I'm going to say. They're both. It's amazing, but just different ways. So you were there before Rod came in. Yeah, I was there for the first couple of years where play, uh, play the coyotes on a Tuesday night. And we had 5,000 fans if we were lucky in the building and now we're selling out every night. So I've been here a long time. Like what, like with actually brought up a cool story that you read about while we were on the last podcast about the, like the cinder block in the room, who, who like introduced that? Was that a rod thing? And were you guys aware that it was the same way as a Stanley cup? Like, or did you guys find out afterward when, when he kind of explained why you guys were doing this after every workout? Yeah. So that was, that would have been Roddy and Billy are strength going to do is, I mean, you've seen some videos on him. Probably he's one of a kind, but, uh, yeah, it was one of those things where I think they both knew what was going on the whole time. But until Ronnie told us a couple of weeks ago, I had no idea. It was just something that we did. And, uh, just after every workout, he looked that up once and that was about it. So that was, that was something they introduced to us or Roddy kind of explained to us, um, in that moment. Okay. So was it a moment where like that he brought it up before you guys had won it, where he just felt like he needed to drop the ace of spades and be like the reason that you were in there doing that the whole time? Like what moment did he, did he tell you guys that? Yeah, no, exactly. I think, uh, can't remember. I was in the last series against Vegas and he was like, I've been debating and telling you guys. And he was just like, the reason we do this, uh, cinder block thing is it's ways just as much as a cup test. So every day you practice lifting that thing up, that's, that's preparing you guys for this moment that might happen. And so I think just lie a little, a little bit more fire under us and try to get us going. Do you ever think about how blessed you are to have a guy like that who cares as much as he does and understands the community and like what he's been able to build? Obviously with you, Marty Stalzi. Probably Aho and Svetch have been there the longest, like slowly building and getting you guys to where you've been in the, I guess the sacrifice he's made to the city of Raleigh. Yeah, it's unbelievable. I'm so thankful that he's my coach. I've talked about it with my wife, actually. Like, I can't imagine having another coach like in my career. Like, I feel like he's, he's been in it. We've been together eight years now and I can't, I got what? Seven years left on my contract. I can't imagine having a different coach in the next seven years. Like, I feel like he's in it for the long haul. He's an unbelievable coach. The respect that he has for us as players, as people, for our families, for the city. Like, he's, he's the perfect coach for us here. Jacob, I'm so interested with your personal life and your faith because like, it hits me hard because I was somebody that was, you play good and you're the best and you play bad and you're, you're worthless. It was something that I always fought and hearing you talk about being a player doesn't really make who you are. Like, it doesn't. It doesn't go hand in hand. And even looking at your Instagram, like you've done, you do work with the International Justice Mission, your wife and you adopted your daughter. Like, I'm wondering what it means to you to do work for others and, and how about you went about adopting your daughter and how that all began. And just like, take us through some parts of your life that people don't know, just watching you kind of be a stud defensive defenseman every year. Yeah, I guess, I guess the easiest way to probably go about that would be off. I mean, everything that I have, my family, my, my life, my, my hockey career, everything is just a, is just a gift from God. And he, he sent his son to die on the cross for my sins to save me. And without that, I'd be spending an eternity separated from him. And so him being willing to sacrifice his own life for me wants to be, well, I want to live my life for him and in every aspect, whether that's with my family, whether that's with relationships with friends, whether that's for him. And so in order to do that, I want, I have to be willing to be obedient to how he calls me to live, but also be willing to be generous because obviously he was generous with giving us his own life. And so when it comes to finances, when it comes to just being in the community, like we're called, I'm called to be, I'm called to be a light in this world. And so I want to do that in every aspect. When it comes to the adoption story, my wife just always had adoption on her. heart from the time she was 10 years old and And actually, when we were dating, we were talking about it. I was like, I'm not sure I want to adopt. She's like, well, that's going to be a deal breaker for me. And so I was like, all right, fine, we can adopt. Whatever, like I was 18 years old or whatever I had to say to keep the girl at the time. And so eventually we got married. And as we were going about it, we started talking about having kids. And we went to some fundraising event where there was a story about a six-year-old adopted boy. And on the way home, she's like, all right, I want to adopt a six-year-old boy. I was like, hold on, pump the brakes. I thought we were having biological first. And so we had to go through a whole conversation about it. God really worked on my heart to get me to the spot where I was. I just had to put my, we talk about it all the time, putting your yes on the table. Just like whatever God has for us, we're going to trust that that's the plan. And that's what's best for us. And so we went the adoption route first. And God brought Emerson into our life. And she's amazing. She's so fun. And she's seven years old now. But we just kind of went into that process with open hands. All right, God. Whatever. Whatever child you want to place in our lives, that's going to be the child that you place in our life. And so she's amazing. And then, obviously, we had our son, biological, and figuring out what we want to do for the third one. But yeah, and then when it comes to helping out International Justice Mission or Compassion International, it's really just God's given us the blessing of great finances, right? Playing in the NHL, we have all the finances we could ask for. But at the end of the day, we're just stewards of it. That's not our money. It's his money. And so we want to use it. We want to use it in a way that glorifies him. And right now, in my career, I don't have time to go overseas and serve. But I can help organizations that are already doing that. And by giving us, by giving them their money, by encouraging other people to give them their money, and really just using the platform God has given us to extend that reach of people understanding what's going on in the world and what needs help. Have you, I'm sure it's been nice probably being with a team. In an organization who's very receptive to your beliefs as well. Like, did you ever find maybe that like even growing up that you were playing hockey in a place where there wasn't as many people that were into their faith where you almost felt like, I don't want to say like an outcast, but just like, like different, like, do you feel like in Carolina, they've been so receptive to all that to where like, it just feels like home? Yeah, I think being with Raleigh, technically being a part of the Bible Belt, it definitely helps. I mean, we're in a community where there's a church on every corner, right? And so found a great church home. Honestly, it's my wife is from St. Louis area. I'm from Colorado. Raleigh's home for us. It's been home for us ever since we're here. And so we stay there during the summertime. So we're well connected in the community. But yeah, no, everyone's been so receptive and so understanding of it. I mean, honestly, my whole career, everywhere I've gone, it's been everyone accepts me for who I am and for what I believe. And obviously, I don't. I don't stand in the locker room on a pedestal trying to pound the Bible into people's heads. But I try to live genuinely and love people well. Is there like, is there like ongoing jokes in the locker room about it? Like, do they call you like Ned Flanders or like, do they, you know, could you, could you take the piss a little bit about it too? When he spit out the champagne, they chirped him. I can see the fun, the fun of it. I mean, and we, we, we've had some good jokes in the locker room. I'm even getting on the bus to go to, to go to this golf course. We, uh, I texted group chest and I got bagels. I was picking up some bagels on the way and someone texted back saying, can you bring Jesus to, I might need a little, little jokes like that. And so we, uh, it's all, it's all in fun. It had to be DLO who said that. Hey, Jacob, Jacob Olsteen. Yeah. I don't want to, I don't know about that one, but. The mega church, that's a conversation for when you come over and hang out at the pool. Hey, when I, when we were doing the TNT broadcast, it felt like we were in a mega church when you, the fans were going crazy when you guys were coming out of the tunnel, man, it was nuts in there. That's bananas. And Lenovo center. That's so good. You know, who needs Jesus? Is this guy behind you right now? Yeah. Oh yeah. Kind of looks like right now. Yeah. We're going to say a prayer for you. Hey, can we do a prayer for DLO right now? They're saying you need Jesus right now. No, DLO told me he was going to play golf with me at eight 30 this morning. Promise me actually last night, did not make it. No chance. No chance. We had to do a small prayer for him right now. What would we say? Like, what would we do? Uh, I would pray that he would just feel the love of God and that God would open his eyes too. And the, the beauty of the gospel that it's not about what you've done, what you do. It's all about what Jesus has done for you. And so just that his eyes would be open to that and let him stay awake for the whole parade. Hopefully he doesn't puke on the way home on this bus ride. Can you also ask God to give me dance moves like he had at the elbow room when he got caught on the live camp? If you could, I haven't seen that video yet. I heard he was, I heard he was buzzing out there though. He's a buzzer. He's a buzzer. So you're not, I mean, I know you have your Instagram, but you're not reading comments, Twitter, you're stay away from all that noise, I'm guessing. Uh, I have in recent years, I used to not, and I would just like anybody, right? Pride creeps in and you want to know what people are saying about you. And so about the past couple of years, I've just, I've done away with that kind of stuff. And, uh, uh, there's a great, uh, there's a Christian rapper. I don't know if you ever listened to Christian rap is, but there's some good, some good songs out there. And, uh, there's a song by like Cray and he says, if you live for their acceptance, you'll die from their rejection. And so I was just like, that's pointless to read these comments. They don't, that's pointless. And so I just, I, I got away from it. Fuck it. You're a G dude. I love that. You're the best dude. You're the best. I'm so happy for you. I appreciate it. It's yeah. You're an incredible player to watch and like a better human buddy. It's very impressive. Really happy for you. Being an American. Watching that in Italy, it was just something I'll never forget. And then this run by you guys and the performance you had, it's a hats off to you, buddy. It's it's incredible to see. Yeah. It's been a fun year. It's a job. I got to be a part of two and an unbelievable teams, right? Like this team in Carolina, unbelievable, all the us team, unbelievable. So really just grateful for the opportunity and it's just been, uh, just taking it as it comes and having fun with it. My final question. Could you always skate so well? Is it always your thing? So it's funny you say that I've always thought like I, obviously I get from point a to point B well, it doesn't look pretty though. I don't think it looks pretty. I think, uh, I've always thought I had a funny looking stride, but I get there from point a to point B. Got a good first three steps and then after that, it's just positioning. And so, um, I think that just came with not being too physical and really having to make sure I was in the right position at the right time. Um, yeah. Um, so yeah, if, if you could pick one unsung hero in that locker room from this run, who would it be? Like who's the one guy that sticks out to you? Maybe he didn't get the most public praise, but you're like this guy was, he was my guy. He's the guy that I thought that played unbelievable all playoffs long and might not have gotten the attention with Sean Walker. I thought he played, I thought he played so good and I thought he was a beast out there. He's blowing guys up. He's making plays. And so I, I liked his game. Love him. I liked it. All playoffs long. Him and key were just dynamite of a deep pair all playoffs long series too. You guys like, I think four different guys led your team in ice time throughout that run in different games. Like, so you never see that. Like that is usually one guy is always playing the most minutes. That was so cool about your decor. Just deep. Yeah. It's deep. The whole, the whole team is deep. Like it's just, it was, it was one of those rounds where everything was clicking the whole playoffs. Like we've had, we've had runs before power play. It wasn't going penalty. Kill wasn't going and goaltending fell off or whatever, but we, we had everything this run. I mean, I think we can let them go with, this has just been awesome. We're so great. You're on the bus with the boys and we appreciate it. So tell everyone congrats and once again, man, amazing run, very happy for you and your family. So enjoy the summer. I appreciate it guys. We've been going to a non-denominational Christian church nearby. It's called grace church. And I actually really enjoy it. It's a lot different than a Catholic mass and here in the way that he puts it all into perspective and what his life is about and why he's living, it's, it's very inspirational personally. It is. And, and to see, see him and his success. Talk about no ego and it's just, it's amazing. And what a player he is too. So that's pretty cool. And biz, I liked that question about, uh, outcast almost like, I think if you would have like in some locker room, if you would have went in there, like, I don't want to say you would have been rejected, but it just, maybe you wouldn't have fit in as much. Like I personally was a teammate where like donor would do Bible study. Like he would say, Hey, we're going to get together. And sometimes it'd only be a couple of guys in the room. Sometimes it'd be like four or five. So sometimes I would go in and just to like, have the conversation and learn about what's important. faith but as you could see like a lot of times like you know people will be in their own head and be going through struggles and when you have religion and god in your corner like a lot of the times that stuff other stuff doesn't phase you it's just outside noise so rather than going to see a a psychiatrist or whatever like sometimes just having a conversation like that with god or reading the bible or even going to church like you said like that can cure cure what you need so um yeah i'm glad that we had him on and have are having this conversation because i think it's important and i i grew up going to church just as much uh probably as you did like once a week and then obviously hockey kicked in more and more and then we stopped going but it would it's a good reflection time you sit there and you listen to people's interpretation of what you know each what the verses mean and there i'm so confused that is hockey night in canada yeah yeah but cbc is the public airwaves i guess think of it like pbs here here in the states like channel two it's like free over the year television but now i always thought of it as like nbc abc or cbs no um though those while those are free over the year this is public uh it's paid for by the public it's public broadcast cbs nbc they're all private companies but pbs you know what we have whdh i'm sorry w whatever hell it is here channel two pbs that's what it's called here it's it's public broadcast and so it's always been public broadcast uh on cbc it's still going to be hockey night in canada it's just going to be on sports then now but it will not be it will not be called hockey night in canada because i believe cbc owns that ip i right but i do believe they're gonna um they're going to be able to use the name i'm sure they're probably going to give them you know give them a little kickback or whatever but okay there's still going to be hockey night in canada it's just okay not going to be on cbc like it has been forever and you know this is when you feel bad for like old time is like you know i think like you know guys my dad's age who you know they've been the best uh customers best fans forever and now you know a lot of guys you know don't stream a lot of older folks don't don't get the gist of it so they they kind of they kind of get screwed when everything goes to cable or whatever so it will be in fewer households um over the last 12 years since sports net and rogers have owned the rights they were allowing hockey night in canada to take place on cbc because they kind of didn't want to change it over and it was one of those you know they worked out a deal whatever that deal may have been it also was like uh um obviously pretty good like promotion wise where cbc would do it and then they would get to talk about some of the shows that they would air on cbc and promote you know some of the things that they've done so it was a good like working relationship i think that now like considering rogers and sports that and what they pay for the rights they were like okay well we've basically essentially given it over for for cents on the dollar and now we're not going to do so anymore so in less households and it's just more about the tradition i think that it's been since like 1952 maybe ra or you could correct me since it's been on cbc so this is where like a lot of people like you know uh you know ra's parents age or even ra's age like you watched hockey growing up like yeah well it would have been what 70s for you all right yeah growing up yeah it's definitely the end of an era though you know like i mean hockey night in canada and cbc there you know sort of almost one on the same so i mean people still be able to to watch it but yeah going from the public airwaves to uh to a paid channel it's yeah it's a big change and i'm sure a lot of folks up there probably aren't crazy about it but i think that's just the way the world the way things go with sports media and broadcast and stuff there's your towel right there biz when did you get that one buddy i actually got two towels i actually brought one over to the the gretzky hockey school because we're going to do some fun interviews and like pay homage to uh hockey night in canada considering it's no longer going to be on cbc on friday so the mvp of the game will i'll interview them and they'll get the towel around their neck i got one for when i was on um after hours with scott oak and um uh razor from um from dallas i think it was those two yeah yeah daryl ray is razor his nickname yeah i think they call him yeah daryl ray and uh we did that one in arizona i didn't play in the game was a healthy scratch but still got to do after hours might be the only time that's ever happened maybe yeah maybe and then i got another one uh from uh ron mclean uh when i did my first ever hockey night in canada for for cbc with the boys up in toronto so i got two towels uh this one is the one i did after hours the other one i dropped off with the boys is the one that ron mclean gave me and like you talked about ra like i had i got to do it i feel honored that i was a part of the game and i got to do it and i got to do it and i got to do it and and got to be a part of that and and i and i just i respect the history of it there were so many amazing people that worked there in the media landscape i know that some people's attention want to be drawn to like oh the don cherry and ron mclean thing like there were so many great memories and years of that relationship and and that friendship so that's where i'd rather focus my attention on and all the amazing things that they did in order to bring hockey to the forefront and create so many amazing memories across canada for hockey lovers like this is where people used to watch wayne gretzky and bobby orr and and you know and listen to bob cole and they just it was it was an amazing broadcast for so many years and i think it's just time to kind of shed light on the amazing memory of it and uh and thank you to everybody who allowed me to be a part of it as well i being an american i i got one with an intermission interview and you know they put it over they make sure the logo is right over there and i was like this is so cool and i'm so cool canadian and then coming in the room boys oh you got first first towel you ever got it's like it was unreal getting that like a true memory and i was in toronto when i got mine it's oh that's so the same ice service where lazella became the first danish player to win the stanley cup back in 2018 with the caps frederick anderson and nicolai eels became the second and third to do it on the same surface of ice so pretty cool stuff there uh if you're curious about odds for next year carolina is the chalk already they're seven to one to win the cup next year colorado eight to one vegas plus 8 50 florida 11 and one edmonton 11 and one uh tampa 12 to one not sure if you're curious about anything else but not going to read all 32 of them there um patrice bergeron absolutely no surprise here his 37 going up to the rafters the bruins haven't announced the game yet that's going to be forthcoming but they did this thing i i guess they probably got the idea from the nhl where they were doing the awards they were kind of like hoodwinking guys into showing up where they didn't know they were going to get the trophy i guess z had reached out to bergeron i guess he's going to be playing z's final shift a game over in slovenia later in the summer and bergeron's going to go over for it so z called them under the guys that they were going to film some stuff um but unbeknownst to bergeron uh neely middleton o'reilly johnny busick and charlie jacobs all showed up to let him know that they were going to be retirees number so they you know they did it right at his house and stuff so you can check out the video on bro wow really cool based on the we just did an hour and a half interview with him last week patrice bergeron and that is going to be an excellent speech when his jersey is retired he's just very awesome to listen to him talk and so i think that night will be very special that's going to be a a packed barn and just i think many kids or guys grinelli's age even older krona uh the third in 26 and the third and 27th so yeah i'm going to let you know what's i mean colton i mean i thought he did a good job in colorado i think it's a case maybe what's his name mcfarlane went to nashville maybe he knows what he has he's a known commodity to the gm there so what do they get back two-thirds um he makes four million yeah good good legs good speed on them i just belgium and i just like all france whatever canada wasn't even in the world cup at the time but i feel like that belgium why not root for belgium uh i don't know i just because they weren't really a powerhouse it was just easier to get all your french i'm well i'm not i'm not from there either right so i'm canadian canada didn't have a team in the world cup at the time and france was like unreal i think they might have won it when i was like when tiari henry was there i feel like henry's been a bit of like a little bit more obnoxious about carving that guy even though like he's just kind of like rolling his eyes non-stop it's like hey have a little bit more fun with it like i feel like zlatan's having rather than henry being a little bit more fun with it like i feel like zlatan's having rather than ari being a little bit more of like kind of like a serious douche belgium has that debroin guy that plays for man city he's sick i think belgium's always been pretty good um but it seems like france and spain are the two oh i guess argentina won the last one i thought messi i didn't even know if messi was still playing in world cups after the last one he gets a hat trick in the first game so obviously the mls hasn't slowed him down at all yeah his sixth world cup he's played in uh 38 years old yeah still still looks awesome out there and that english uh england croatia game was awesome as well i don't know if you caught that one last night i went you know yeah england ended up pulling it off what four two yeah it was yeah it was a one goal game down and then they got one i think it might even be an extra time when they got the fourth goal but very entertaining i'm loving the ronaldo drama and the fact that like it seems like it seems like the team and they just want them on the bench and they want to roll without them but it's ronaldo so you can't i don't know if he's still the same like player i don't think he's the same player and so now it's like are you even better with without him or does he come in late did he start their game and play he couldn't have played the whole game i think so yeah i'm not sure if he started but yeah they yanked him they yanked him and after they were like uh congratulating the other team at the end when they were shaking hands he kind of just stood off to the side like a sourpuss oh he's such a fucking sourpuss i can't stand him but uh like we mentioned before you know what though this tournament it has been great for just north america but for the united states business it almost feels like this is like perfect time and it was just sort of like serendipity that you know the world's been a fucked up place lately and you know it's just been a lot going on we'll leave it at that and i don't it just i think america is reminding the all our visitors like you know we're good hosts and we're happy to have you and you've just been seeing it everywhere whether it's down texas with the netherlands or down mexico city with the koreans and the mexicans having fun and up in canada it just seems like i don't know man i just haven't seen this much like global kinship in a long time i agree with you and it's like it goes back to the saying like it's not as bad as they portray it on tv they're just trying to get your emotions going it's fucking it's a joke it goes back it goes back to the cbc and the way that they portray america i'm a canadian and it drives me absolutely nuts like when my parents say my parents say like oh like maybe we're not going to come down to the states this year like it doesn't seem that safe i'm like mom like i live in fucking scottsdale there's nothing going on here you're going to see more crack hoons as army calls them and in downtowns in canada than you will here in the states like or or any other bullshit going on so it's kind of like it's just a complete fabrication in most cases yes do do certain countries have their issues absolutely united states is a beautiful country and there's a lot of amazing things about it including canada as well it's all bullshit on the news like the mexico the games in mexico look wild i was watching yesterday in toronto look great all right i i feel like you're primed for showing up to the scotland morocco game tomorrow night did you look into tickets i i didn't look into tickets i have no idea what the price prices are right now i mean if someone said he called me up and had a ticket i would definitely jump all over it but um i mean i'm assuming even face value has got to be crazy i mean i know i know what they were charging and right now it's like yeah you know i would definitely go on a hot beat but you're probably gonna leave today because the traffic i guess getting out of there with the trains and people couldn't get ubers or whatever but oh i would be done with it i would definitely go on a hot beat now for a hundred percent but morocco drew with brazil so that's i guess that's a tough test for scotland but i mean seeing these fans it's hard not to root for scotland to get out of their group somehow dude i honestly would i don't ever remember like uh like this scenario in boston before where i think they said there's almost like 30 000 scots in town where they just sort of have adrenalized the city like i've never seen everyone is going out to go where they are like you know cop slide where the cop went down that slide at city hall a million miles an hour i you know i went out saturday night walked around and the cops were wicked cool they were just letting people hang out you know because bars are open till three o'clock a lot of them are and they were like three four dozen people just hanging out a cop slide no one drinking smoke just hanging out chilling it was just like just like i said just a vibe in the city that i can't remember the last time it's been like that so it's good stuff man it's all good stuff all over the place so uh let's see my classic recommendation for this week uh it's on netflix the big lebowski uh the stoner classic from the cohen brothers uh it's basically a mistaken identity comedy classic jeff bridges uh john goodman steve buscemi now when i first saw it back in the 90s at the theater i didn't get it right away it's one of those ones you the more you watch it the more you pick up first time i watched it i was like i can't stand this movie and then the big lebowski yeah i don't know i it was a long time ago i was just like ah like you know the the the scene when he's like up and up in the air like levitating it was just kind of goofy but the more i've watched it it's it's hilarious yeah i mean what's the name who plays the bowler who's he's hilarious oh john tutorial yes the dirtbag yeah the dirtbag and the guy who licks the ball jesus yeah yeah but yeah it's one of those ones like i said it's a cult classic it grows on you more and more and you know john goodman absolutely hilarious and it's just like an unhinged vietnam veteran and to shoot that's that's in my top 10 rotation like i'll at least watch that like one or two times a year okay the big lebowski yeah good good stuff a couple of netflix recommendations i watched the other night it just hit last week what the fuck is this clearly you're not a golfer market donnie it was uh called office romance with j-lo and uh brett goldstein he's the dude from um he plays roy kent on ted lasso he actually co-wrote this movie and you know i i don't really watch a lot of romantic comedies these days i threw it on the other night when my cousin said it was pretty good and honestly it's way better than the average romantic comedy i know j-lo kind of made her bones with those movies back uh shit 20 something years ago but it was it was pretty witty it was funny it's a little raunch to it too uh let me just say if you're looking even not necessarily a girlfriend or whatever but if you just want to watch a pretty good uh romantic comedy office romance i enjoyed that uh if you shop on netflix as well something about mary another classic comedy if you'd never that's a good one it's hilarious well i mean i don't think i ever saw a theater laugh that much like when i saw it i actually saw a sneak preview biz uh like before it came out and then it was so goddamn funny i brought my friends two nights later i i don't think i ever saw a theater laugh that much uh you ever what's the most you ever saw one particular movie in the theater um only three that i can i can remember uh good you went i i did a three banger yeah i saw goodfellas three times i saw standby meet three times but i don't think i've owned four four times because you know once you know i i was had a vhs or vcr so you know you can watch it at home and not have to like pay ten dollars or whatever did you ever but did you ever one time no never even considered it really i don't think as far as i mean do you think we're i have a tough time watching a movie like at all closely to the time i first watched it again do you get it get what i'm saying yeah i have i have to see him i have to have not seen a movie for a while to watch it again interesting yeah i went and saw man on fire three times in the movie theaters with probably within like a 10 day span with uh obviously the denzel one right denzel no shit huh with that uh who's the girl she was excellent oh uh fanning uh dakota fanning dakota fanning yeah yeah it was actually a remake trade you her life for your life did you just did you used to sneak in the movies biz when you were young really no then so i guess then i never snuck into three movies in one day that's that's my record of sneaking in okay so you okay so you would be in the theater and then you would just bounce over to a theater and then you would just bounce over to a theater and then you would just another movie. Yeah, like you would you would kind of No, I never did that. I was probably like 11 or 12 years old. And yeah, you see, all right, this one's playing at one. This one's playing at three. This one's playing at five. And then go from one to the other. You'd be there all day. Yeah, after a while, I'm staying for another one. I'm staying for another one. That's how R.A. became a janitor. He would pretend he was a janitor there, just like buzzing around, scooping up popcorn, and then just watch the movie. Another one I want to mention. Did you ever see Chef with Jon Favreau? Unreal movie. Great flick, this. Unreal. He basically, yeah, he's having some business issues or whatever. He starts a food truck. Oh, yeah, I saw that. Yeah, and you're like watching a porno make you a little horny. Watching Chef makes you hungry as a bastard, dude, because of the way they filmed all the food stuff. So that and one last one. Didn't he have a hot Latina wife in that one? Or ex-wife? Sofia Vergara, right, I think. Oh, yeah, it was his ex. And then he brings his kid on the food truck. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, I've seen that one. That's good stuff. And one last one, 1982 great comedy with Dustin Hoffman, Tootsie. He plays a frustrated actor who basically, decides to, like, dress up as a woman so he can get more roles. Again, this is 1982, but it's, like, it's still, like, an everlasting comedy. What's the word? Evergreen. It's still hilarious. Great cast, Jessica Lange, all kinds of funny people. But, yeah, I think it was nominated for Best Picture back in the day. Might have even won for writing. But Dustin Hoffman, Tootsie, give that a whirl if you're looking for something else. And, yeah, you know, I think that might be about it. Actually, we'll do one All Right Hamilton to wrap up here. I got to get going here, but what's the All Right Hamilton? All right, we'll do, this is easy. Since it was just National Mascot Day, this is from Gattarino77. If every NHL mascot got drafted into a battle royal, who's the betting favorite and who's getting eliminated first? Biz, this is right up your alley. Gritty's stabbing you to death. Gritty's the favorite. I mean, he's definitely the chalk because he's an animal. And, I mean, is Bowie going to last? Is Bowie going to be chucked off? No, he's a crackhead. He can't do anything right. Runs out of, yeah, runs. He's got no way. Something soft. I think alliances would have a lot to do with it. I'm curious to know, does Chance, the. The Gila monster. Are they poisonous? Yes, yes. One of the very few poisonous lizards out there, yeah. So, he can just bite you and then it's game over. He would probably be at the top of the list. And, you know, Pinky and the Brain would be there fucking cooking up some deals in the background to get him more help from other mascots. Well, as we wrap it up, the final thing is just heartbreaking. And that's the passing of Kyle Calder. Oh. Grease, as everyone knew him, incredible guy. I was lucky enough to play with him in Anaheim. That was his last year playing in the NHL. His daughter put out a post. I think that was the first time anyone even saw. I had saw that he was sick and it says it was an illness. I don't really know what happened, but an unbelievable person. Army knew him very well. They trained together in the summers. And Army was, he was crushed by this news. And it's really hard to talk about. Guys that are so young that, you know, I played with. A lot of guys had the chance to play with him. He was beloved by his teammates. He was living in Chicago. I know he was coaching his son's team at one point. And it's just horrible. We saw him. When were we out in Chicago? Remember we were at that speakeasy we ran into Grease? Winter Classic a few years ago. Winter Classic. And just getting to catch up with him was awesome. Funny guy and great player. It's just, that was horrible news to see. And it's tough. He's just so young, so young and family, his kids. It's just heartbreaking stuff. So I wanted to mention Kyle Calder at the end of this and rest in peace. And we're thinking of his family and everything right now, because you know, you, you, you find out alumni past at such a young age and it's like, God, every one of these hits you harder than the one before it's just brutal, brutal news. So kind of a tough way to end the show, but I loved getting the chance to get to know him a little bit that year in Anaheim. Awesome person. And it's just sucks.
