Right now, I'm seeing teams with a 2-1 series leading a best-of-seven series in the round before the final hold an all-time series record. It's a record of 92-28. So when looking at game three tonight, when looking at what's happening tonight, this is a big one. This is probably, possibly going to show who's going to win this series. Another thing that's just crazy to me is the fact that ESPN and TNT, when they've had the avalanche, they are regularly showing when the Avs are leading going into the third period, they win. They have not lost this season. And when the Avs are up by two or more goals, they win. While both things have happened in the last two games, and we said they might be dead after game one, they're officially done. It's over. It's over, boys. Write the obituary. And I'm shocked. I mean, obviously, I'm more shocked at the turnaround that Vegas has had and what they've turned into than I think I am on the Avs going down 3-0 because if you guys remember, this team was dead. They couldn't get a save all year. They trailed the second. Most amount of minutes in the league this year. Comeback kids. Goddamn Canucks trailed more than them, and they were the worst team in the league. And then they fire their coach with a chance of missing the playoffs. And, buddy, it's just been domination, Biz. It's a joke. You got to just. I hate them. I hate them. I'm disgusted by this. But sometimes you got to tip your cap, man, and I have to. Oh, buddy. These guys, not only the right moves at the deadline, but just like even after the first round, you were like, oh, OK. These guys. These guys got something cooking. They got some steam going here. And there was a few shaky games for Carter Hart. And I always go back right now to crediting Tortorella for not pulling them and not deviating from the plan in that series. And ever since then, I think I read that nine. Well, now it's probably I don't know about last night, but before last night, it was nine of his last ten starts. He had a save percentage of 926 or higher. So Merle's kind of touched on just how confident he looks. How he's kicking. And when he's in the zone, I mean, Jens, you played with him. This guy is locked and loaded. And sure enough, the one game where maybe he gets off to a little bit of a shaky start lets up, what, three in the first or three in the first half of the game there. And the offense all of a sudden comes storming back. And you also kind of felt like they were going to come back because Tort's kind of felt like he lit the bench up when they called that when they disallowed that goal, that cross checking goal. I don't know how you guys feel. I don't know how you feel about that one. We could talk about this after. But he kind of brought that fire. And he kind of went at the ref. And Dorofeev was actually sitting right in front of him. And Dorofeev didn't say a word to the ref. All Dorofeev was doing was staring forward. He was worried about fucking what the task at hand was. And the quote postgame for Mitch Marner, he's like, the boys didn't turn on each other. We didn't get yelling at each other. I thought that was, that was, I thought Merle's and G believe that's directed at old Maple Leafs teammates. I think it's. It's directed at the abs a little bit. And it's probably just not directed at anyone. And they just love each other. We're at the point in playoffs now where every single postgame quote is being fucking scrutinized, turned into something. They were so lucky to go into the third period down one nothing. This time you actually get three in the first. You win that call that could have gone the other way easily. And then that happens in the second. But I'll tell you, we've always talked about fresh ice on the power play in the second. Oh, yeah. And you're. That's a dream situation. And Marner, that pass. Now, mind you, also, Stone gets it. Stone comes back in the lineup, makes a big impact. His pinch on the Drury goal was the most belligerent pinch I've ever seen. He came flying in like a caveman. Is there any worse feeling than when a fourth liner gets a goal on you and has the upper hand and chirping you? Never. And I remember a time I think it might have been. It might have been Jansen. He's like, you're so soft. And I was just like, oh, I want to fucking crawl to a hole right now. Like it is. But Manson isn't like Manson soft, but he got owned there. I mean, I do think, though, that if Nelson's getting called for that, it was the same thing. But I'll say the Chushkin we didn't even mention. He didn't play the final two to 22 minutes. McKinnon's obviously banged up now. He went out at the end. And what did we talk about also with Colorado and Merle's brought it up? Give Merle's credit on this one. Their power play. Their power play has not been good all year. And that's probably what's really killed them the most. That and the goaltending here. And Makar being out. I don't understand why they don't have Natchez on the side where Kadri is on right now coming downhill shooting. Like if Makar walks it, because a lot of teams are just taking away McKinnon, right? They're going to cheat up to him. So if he can walk the middle, then give it to Natchez coming downhill. Natchez has a shot opportunity or he's really good at making that seam pass over to Nate. Like Kadri kind of just gets it. He's not really a one-timer threat. He never really hits the one-timer and he just like gets it and holds onto it and just slows everything down. Like I would put Natchez over there and tell him, hey, dude, shoot pucks till you either kill somebody or you score a goal. He looked like he was drunk in the first a little bit there, Natchez. You see when he toe-picked, he like lost the stick battle, like toe-picked. That pass to Kadri was sick though. Oh, yeah. The saucer. Yeah. He totally made up for the toe-pick for sure. But also. The second goal. So Carlson makes it 3-2. Wedgwood. And I think it was the Sportsnet broadcast. They're like, he's punching it directly to the slot. Like that's a shot that he originally got. Was it Marner, I think, who just like that can be steered off into the corner. Maybe I'm not a goalie guy. No, it was a tough rebound. And luckily his own guy got it. Once again, is there a worse feeling than when like it comes out like that and you try to make it? He literally gave Carlson a one-timer. I think it was. Was it Kelly? I don't know. 17. Parker Kelly. And then you see his teammates come over, how excited they are for him. Like this is a team that they know how to win, man. Like they proved they can play the fast games against Utah. They proved they can play hard games. Like this team's a real, real issue. And obviously, we're seeing it now with Colorado. And Colorado's obviously banged up what every team is. And I don't know, man. Do you think they get swept? Oh, yeah. It's over. I said it last night before the game. If they get swept, all right, so then there's a couple things we can go into. First, and Avs fans, you may hate us right now, but you got to look in the mirror. Look in the mirror. But, I was depressed and everything but like, there wasn't ever a part of me that was like, this game's over. I texted you guys, I think, like, I think we can make this 3-2 going into the, into the third. I texted my, my buddies who root for Vegas, like, I'm not giving up on this one. I think that the turning point in this, I mean, we haven't lost since, but the turning point in this post season has been game five against Anaheim is just completely stepping on their throat. They scored the late goal to force overtime. And that's Eichel cross crease, the door of Fayette and everything from there is changed. We've been dominant ever since clicking ever since. And bloody, you called it last night before the game, you said William Carlson goal. And Merle's has said also, he is maybe the straw that stirs the drink with this team. You miss so much. this the game game one and we haven't we haven't been on since game one so we have both games to talk about a meltdown but also like i totally got it like even though they scored quick like that many days off and slavin who never plays bad having the worst game of his life i get it and we'll get into that game but game two carolina dominated the game but once i saw the numbers some canadians fans are saying it wasn't as bad as it maybe looked on the stat sheet do you agree with that or do you think that was complete hurricanes domination um i you know i'm back here in montreal in the meal room right now and you know i haven't been in a playoff series here in 20 years and blessed to call a couple of really good ones in 2002 and 2000 2006 when the hurricanes ended up winning the stanley cup the first round they were down to nothing to these montreal canadians they started a rookie in cam ward when we came here and the reason i bring that up is because i thought that even though the hurricanes won in six it took until game five to to show a semblance of what their game should look like and you know that's what encouraged me most about game two is that the hurricanes game looked the way it was supposed to look uh um and you know i i probably put as much stock into that boys as i do with the fact that healers found a way to win in an overtime because you just don't have the runway to you know in the case of 20 years ago in my opinion wait until game five and so to see a look after the break after how poorly it looked especially defensively in game one to look the way it did in game two um that made and makes me hopeful that was probably one of the biggest storylines we talked about at the game two where the guys making the money for carolina had to step up right i think it's been a little underwhelming for ajo's fetch and i think that jarvis's game has picked up maybe the overall points haven't been there but for healers like that big off-season acquisition signing him to over 50 million and and him getting those two goals and and especially that ot1 he was very emotional after the game i guess his father had traveled in for the game and gave him some very encouraging words um uh before the game and i think that's something that i think is going to before hand before he left for the rink and he was he was he was very very emotional post game in that interview did he say what he what he said to him or no no he kept it between him he just basically said i think that that you know healers was like fighting it a little bit right he wants to contribute offensively he he loves this group of guys and even as we were doing the interview trip a few guys were walking by and they kind of just gave him that like grab on the shoulder and you could just tell this group really loves one another yeah you know boy healers and if you want to go back to the diaho line after biz because they're going to need to be particularly good on the road but i'll stick with with healers you know i remember either right before the hurricanes signed him and he chose carolina because he had some big time suitors i mean and certainly think you know right near the top of that list the washington capitals and you know that's a big moment that nicolai healers chose the hurricanes um and i remember paul maurice calling me because paul coached a lot of his career and paul told me he said he's going to be a perfect fit and the other thing that paul told me and i think he referenced i don't know if it was a regular season game or a playoff game but he said trip he has no problem when there's no room and things get physical and he referenced i think that healers when he was a jet challenge ryan gets left at one point in time and you know so you know what i've liked most about nicolai healers is a carolina has has had a an abundance of trouble scoring big goals at big times and specifically historically in eastern conference final but i've watched in the playoffs so far when teams try to get physical on him he responds immediately and his game seems to elevate so he's been a perfect fit um and it was on display for him to have that emotion and talking to your turner crew after the game biz and to do it with his dad there was a coach in switzerland heinz i believe is his name has been a forever coach and really a dainty coach and he's been a great coach and he's been a great coach and he's been a great legend but to do it in front of the the huge canyx was was visibly meaningful to a guy that's fit in beautifully and another thing too like to not complain that he's on the third line like i love how they're able to distribute and and you know they got two snow plows on that line and martin hook and stall guys who can create space win the board battles but like for him to be put on that third line and not bitch it seems like that's a that's a pretty selfless thing right for a guy who's making that much money and who's probably played top six most of his career and quickly quickly trip i just want to mention i was surprised that they went to stall against suzuki in game two they didn't have it in game one it was a kind of stall and jordan barden and he explained why that was in october so is when paul stastny says something to me you know i think you guys have either had ej or you're going to have ej on i i got to know guys like eric johnson paul stastny and a colorado minnesota series i did about 10 years ago for nbc and stastny Disney's IQ is through the roof. You bet he was. said that in October and with regards to the Ajo line that's why I think it's time it's got to be time right now because if I'm Marty San Luis with last change you know I am I'm getting the Suzuki line away from Jordan Stahl and you know Sebastian Ajo along with Jarvis and Svechnikov I actually thought they're better the two games was game one in that route from Montreal they were the one bright spot they're gonna have to be complete period end of story if especially if they spend a good amount of time against Suzuki, Caulfield and Slepkovski. I was just gonna say the you know you guys held Montreal to five shots through two like when you look at a Carolina team and you know that they're playing well they're playing the way that they need to do to win it's the shot totals they're gonna get way more than the other team they I think they finished with 12 Montreal finished with 12 but like you think they can do that? on the road in a building like Montreal because it's a little bit tougher when you have last change you know to do it at home is a little bit easier but to do it on the road you think they can go out and do that tonight? No as a matter of fact I spent some time with Rod Brindamore and several members of the coaching staff last night when we arrived here in Montreal and I know they anticipate that Montreal is going to have a higher shot volume and Keith my hope is that that's going to be a very good thing for Frederick Anderson I mean I look at game two in particular you know you almost have to have played the goaltending position to just recognize just how incredibly hard it is when you're not seeing any shots you're looking down and you know if you're not mentally strong you're like I don't want to be the weak link your mind can become the instantaneously the biggest enemy and within that third period I know Josh Anderson tied the game but Freddie made some quality saves and so I'm hoping Keith that that's going to be a good thing for you as you're on the road because yeah I think like Rod Brindamore anticipates that that shot volume is going to be higher. he's got that physicality to his game right now okay boys you know and how many private conversations have we had okay for years now about the Hurricanes you know at this time of year need to get heavier they need to get tougher individually and as a group and so far I haven't liked all these games one and two like I beyond loved you know every game against Ottawa and Philadelphia um to the point where he almost he got taken off that line for a couple shifts I noticed yeah he you know if I were to stall line and then this x factor of a fourth line where you remember every millisecond that jankowski carrier and robinson are on the ice with that being said even within i need to see a relocation of stan coven blake and hall here on the road tonight thus far he is the sam bennett of the playoffs for carolina where he's not going to win any publicity contest contest with opposing fans but is it desperately what carolina has needed you bet your ass it is and so i mean i i'm i think taylor hall has i think i've spoken to you guys about it before professionally personally he's already become and approaching 30 years one of my favorite hurricanes and that heaviness that sandpaper the fact that he's public enemy number one he's sam bennett of the playoffs so far and i happen to be completely in love with that because it's been lacking in years past another guy who's impressed me a lot and you know if you look at their back end you're probably not going to think of him first but chatfield and yeah i was gonna play that the play that he made in in the overtime game just recognizing that montreal needed to change the um i think it was captain who didn't get it deep he just makes a nice little simple play getting it up but he's been awesome all playoffs and i just want you to stroke him off a little bit with how good he's been for that that group because he's not a lot of he's not a guy that gets a ton of love he often leads their team in ice time which i found surprising too i think he was plus three with two assists in game two as well uh the veterans that you guys are and i you know i'm gonna tell jaylen when i get on the bus to go to the hotel what you said keith because not alone not let alone from a former player but a defenseman i mean that's the strongest compliment that one can receive jaylen chatfield uh the biggest praise that i can give jaylen he's a pure michigander he's from michigan like me is that every game that he plays he's a pure michigander he's a pure michigander he's a pure michigander i don't care if it's in the preseason or here the conference final he's trying to prove that he belongs in the national hockey yeah and that is the most impressive thing this is a great athlete like a tremendous athlete that had a tremendous bounce back game and jacob slave and that's his partner but every game that chatfield plays with his preparation and his intensity aside from his god-given talents he's playing like he needs to show everyone that he belongs in the national hockey league and he's a pure michigander he's a pure michigander he's a pure michigander you know carolina had a terrific start to that overtime period and if i had any concern it if montreal was going to win in overtime it was going to be early and right from the stall line and the opening face-off of overtime the hurricanes dominated the overtime period and jaylen chatfield just did not allow captain and company to take a breath you know you got a couple defensemen including dobson going for a change he makes the play i mean jan collarski finishes this shift in ideal fashion to get it to healers kneelers ends the night but um jaylen chatfield wasn't available along with another righty and sean walker in the conference final against florida last year you know that's the stanley cup championship florida team with the series have been different nobody will ever know but i know you didn't have a chance when you didn't have chatfield and walker on the right side let's talk about i want to talk about slave and just a little bit more because like he was like he ate it the game one and then has an unreal bounce back game and i jackie redmond interviewed him after the game and you don't often hear a lot of talk about their faith and like he's pretty open about it and i would imagine being around him he just seems like the the like the perfect person like a type of guy you want on the team and i just want you to talk about like what what it's been like being around him and and a guy who's obviously one of the best defensive defensemen in the league and to have a bounce back game like that contribute offensively and uh and then have a post-game interview like that uh biz i'll tell you a story i don't share very often um but just over four years ago i was in the league and i was in the league four years ago and april 2022 i missed a game uh drinking in new york i haven't had a drink since the hurricane stood behind me and uh i flew back to raleigh jacob flew with the team they won the division that night at madison square garden he flew back with the team i stayed in new york and jacob slavin offered to fly back uh by himself to fly back to raleigh with me that's the type of guy from hockey he has been very central in my journey with regards to faith but as an analyst i think just as an analyst i think that it is a colossal part of his defensive greatness i mean here i am in montreal where you know he really put himself on the map in the four nations with the first couple of games being in montreal before going to boston and because his faith is so he has an element of self-belief in his abilities that after a game that i simply haven't seen from number 74 as a hurricane in game one just as an analyst that faith and depth to his self-belief allows him to grab the moment and not let the moment grab him so just breaking it down as an as an analyst that faith and depth to his self-belief allows him to grab the moment and not let the moment grab him on on most nights awesome i i love hearing that because it's all about taking away time and space and then the first time you see him live you're like i think he's one of the fastest skaters in the league like i people would love to see him in the league but i think he's one of the fastest skaters in the league and i think it gripping the stick because once it starts going bad it snowballs a little like as an analyst as you mentioned what are you seeing that's that's different from his usual game i i don't think that listen he's one of the fiercest competitors that i've ever seen yeah he's got some rat in him too which is pretty good and which i love and he you know but i think there is another level and i think you've gotten to the point where it has to be there tonight and when i look at sebastian like i just looked at the face-off numbers of of game two and suzuki was 50 percent dino was 50 i would take that for the rest of the series and run for the hills when you look at the lefty and dino and the righty and suzuki i bring that up because sebastian ajo when he plays his best games how he does in the face-off circle is a direct barometer as to whether or not he's going to be on the score sheet you whether or not he's going to be complete and when he has played his best best games i mean he's he's a minimum of 55 in the face-off circle and when he's really rolling he's north of that he was in the 40s in game two i didn't mind his game one and if he draws suzuki if marty san luis wants that his mindset has got to be i'm not thinking about points there is going to be no cheat in my game it's a successful night if we keep that line off the board and i always believe when you don't have cheat you produce more offense and so that's five on five i did think that the hurricanes power play the one they had in the second and then the third period took some positive steps but i think there's a lot more room for guys like al whoever's got the puck on the goal line for his group to attack the puck on their toes without hesitation as to see which power play is going to get going first in this series so that's just touching upon what i'm looking for at five on five um and also on the power play it seems like he has the most confidence in any dimension right now shorthanded seems like he's created more chances shorthanded with jarvis than he has in the other dimensions of the game i think we've gotten to a point where he needs to be sebastian ajo this is the team that um you know the offer sheet was involved he has a history against montreal producing the time's got to be now in my opinion the last one i had is just like obviously if you get to the conference finals that's going to be a lot of work but i think some point in time you have to have depth step up and you mentioned them earlier that jankowski robinson and and carry a line like that they are unbelievable and you know they're a team that if you look most nights they're in the 11 minute range and every time they go out there and they make an impact obviously they rewarded jankowski they just re-upped them but what is it about them that how are they able to have such good chemistry and and really if they you know they have a few bad shifts ronald throw them out there and they're going to be able to do a lot of good things out there and they're able to turn the tide it seems like most times they go out there and they've obviously been producing offensively for this run well i think uh collectively biz that they can feel the trust and uh the value from the coach i think that's a factor and i looked at the sheet after the first period after the second period after the third period and then when i went home on saturday night and i swore they played more that's how that's to what degree i remembered every millisecond of every shift that they had so quickly touching on all three guys will carry it i mean my gosh has he been good when he won the stanley cup with vegas no doubt about it hands down his best series was the conference final against dallas where i thought he was a he would have made more in free agency but it's tough to be in a spot where a coach believes in you like rob brindamore does and eric robinson i think eric robinson realized that what a signing that was speaking of signings i thought it was really smart to extend jankowski between series because he has had a ton of chances he's had two goals taken off the board so far in these playoffs and you never know you guys played the game you'd know better than me but signing him extending him which i think is a great value for the hurricanes might settle those hands now that that's taken care of just enough that that could be the difference now that that extension is in place so i thought that was really smart by the hurricanes in his particular case to get the swiss army knife that he is league and he steps into a proven bonafide winning team that just needed a a little bit of direction to steer the ship and that's what he's done and his presence in front of a team is so mesmerizing like when he speaks you're just like and as far as i'm concerned like you are so locked in on what he's going to find him so fascinating to listen to when you go into a team like he has in vegas they just needed a little like a little tweak in the right direction and and i think he can wear out his welcome in certain situations but i don't see it happening because even if he's there long term he he's a guy that trusts the players if he's if they're in a situation where he's they've earned his trust and i think those guys have based on what they've done in the past ej do you think it has something to do with him being a like him him going into the olympics and being an assistant coach and not having to be the head coach and just being a guy to you know be the shoulder or lean on whatever but it seems like every guy when we talked to them after the olympics like dude he was unbelievable as an assistant coach like was there making jokes having fun like you think it changed him a little bit or he's still the same guy i think he's the same guy but i don't think he's the same guy he was 10 years ago 20 years ago like as as a player you have to evolve your career and as a coach you're no different so what i think is is so amazing is he's he found a way to stay sharp while he i mean let's face it a month ago a little over a month ago he's you know eating hot dogs on the espn panel with right and now he's coaching a team to maybe one went away from the stanley cup final pretty pretty incredible i don't think anyone sucked towards coaching the nhl this year especially when he got hired and i'm i'm really happy for him because i know he was still hungry for this and you can tell he's pushing all the right buttons and his voice is not wearing out i mean these guys clearly love playing for him it's obvious so i gotta ask you because you played for bednar and people were trying to make a little bit of his quote uh with kale mccarr and and and how he phrased it about saying it's basically kale's decision now what did you make of that i thought personally it was a bit of a nothing burger that spiraled out of control what do you think knowing bednar and obviously knowing kale mccarr i agree biz i think this time of year media is trying to find absolutely anything to run with right i mean i think you know they're trying to make something out of nothing there do at ageland right now one one thing i just want to quickly say is so you saw what marner said after the game about how the group stays positive regardless of what situation they're in and you know sometimes it's easier said when you're when you have all the confidence in the world and everything is going your way i do feel like the abs are a little tight and they're not really dealing with their adversity as well as as vegas is does sometimes nate's intensity maybe rub guys the wrong way and force other guys to maybe grip their sticks a little tight like i know we love him for his intensity and what he brings but do you think that that if if they end up losing and getting beat out here in the conference final do you think that's something that they maybe have to evaluate and work on in order to get themselves back to winning another cup in the near future great great question and i think for me nate's not going to change and i think that's part of what makes him great as as you all know but they have enough counterbalance in that locker room to to level that out and i think a lot of it gets overblown with nate because he's not just going to hide it in the public eye he's not going to hide it because he's on camera or anything like that but he can really uplift you and be a lot of layers to nate that a lot of people don't see and he's not just yelling and screaming at guys all the time you know he's he's picking guys up when they're down too so i think they have landis gog and burns and manson and nelson and all these guys that can i can do that for nate but he's just a guy that wears his heart on his sleeve but i think you're looking at the abs now and you're looking at their core like they're getting a little bit older here like how how big is their window i don't want to say it's closing but i think they're getting a little bit older here but it's not opening right so yeah they're still in the window to win but i mean this is just shot you're so shocking to me like you if they if they lost in seven which you know that's that's a that's a stretch right now to happen but if say say it was a back and forth you know teams traded wins and you know went one one two two three three and they lose okay so what but when you get swept like this and lose game three like you did last night i mean a lot of questions have to be asked and they've already played shake up the core card with ranting and right so they've they've played that card what's the next card they play if they still feel like their windows open which i think it is but what do they do is it is it the coach is it another core shake up are they trying to tweak around the edges with guys i don't know they've revamped their goaltending they traded ranting and what's the common denominator i think jared badner is one of the best coaches in the nhl he gets scooped up in one second if he gets fired but well where do they go from here if they get swept or lose in five or whatever you know i mean it's it'll be interesting to see what happens like as in you think maybe they need a little bit more tougher love kind of like vegas just got i don't know what it is exactly i think i think jared bednar is a heck of a coach but at that at the same time if you go through the window of lauskog mckinnon and mccarran you only get one cup in that whole avalanche era of their greatness i i think that's a failure right and i i don't pin it on bednar i think he's an awesome coach but where do they go from here if they lose in the conference final which it looks like they probably will you never never say never you know they could go on a historic comeback but what's the next move i'm interested to hear what you guys think there too because um i don't know you played the franchise player card like you did with ranting and you shake up the core you know they've done everything what's next well the carl situation that's what everyone's talking about yeah that's merle they're saying he's gonna coach both teams i don't see that happening i'll see carl come down merle's saying that oh my god you bednar's like Like, oh, Carl doesn't have to move, and he takes over. Seems a little crazy, but you never know. I do think that this one's different because, yeah, like, Rontan, it's gone. They've made all these moves. But, and Blutman said it, our guys, there's so much luck. You went through this. There's so much luck that you need to have to win a Stanley Cup. And Makar, he's been banged up since before the playoffs. Now McKinnon's injured. Now, granted, it was in a game where they're trying to stay alive in a series. And there's just a bunch of, like, bad luck that it seems like they've dealt with, at least in the playoffs so far. So you're looking at it like, well, if Makar is healthy, we're a completely different team. Or is it just like everyone's battling injuries and we have to shake something up again? That's the question that'll be asked. But I just can't believe, and I know you, Avs fans didn't think this would be a series. Like, a lot of them. Shouldn't put everyone under the same umbrella. And I was like, I don't see how they're this confident going into this, the way Vegas has looked. Even though it was the Ducks. And Utah. Yeah. And I want to mention one other thing. You need goaltending in the playoffs. And if you get the hot hand, like Vegas has gotten with Carter Hart, I mean, his numbers are ridiculous. And that was the one thing missing from Vegas all season long. All their metrics were top 10 throughout the entire league. They had the second worst or the worst five-on-five save percentage until Carter Hart came back. So they were just missing goaltending. And they got Hart. And the other thing Torts does is he can empower you and give you a ton of confidence. And that's what he's done with Carter Hart. I know he went in there and said, Hartsy, you're my guy. You're our number one guy. If we're going anywhere, it's because of you. And you could totally tell Carter Hart's playing. Like, he knows how valuable he is to that team. And that's what Torts can do. He can tear you down, but he can also build you up. And so, yeah, I mean, it's, I didn't think it would be a sweep or Vegas in five, which is looking like that's probably, what it's going to be. I mean, I thought Colorado would win in six, but Colorado's not getting the saves. Vegas is. Colorado's power play has not looked good. And McCarr's at 70%. And now you're probably looking at no McKinnon next game. I guarantee you he feels worse right now this morning than he did, as you guys know, than he did last night. So we bought this horse last July out of an auction and his, his sire, his father is Nyquist and the guy bought him with his name's Paul Reddick. He owned Nyquist and Nyquist won the Kentucky Derby. And so Nyquist has turned into one of the best stallions in the world. And so this horse came up for sale. Paul likes to buy sons of Nyquist since he raced Nyquist and, um, asked me to take a, a quarter of share in the horse. And I did, and he, he battled some injury issues when we bought him in July, but now he's coming back and, uh, doing pretty well. So, so we're optimistic today and he's the morning line favorites. So, uh, $200,000 pot, and we're hoping to take it home. And, and, and is like, because he's battled through these injuries and he's on the other side. Is that why you named him Millard Chuck? Sorry. Are you able to get into the race based on obviously prior races and placing or winning like almost a circuit to get into the Derby? It didn't used to be like that where now you have to qualify for the race. Exactly. It used to be based on earnings. Now it's a tiered point system. So there's races from October up until the Derby where you qualify with points and the top 20 horses with the most points get in. So if you finish first in a big race, you'll get 50 points. If you finish second, you'll get 20. If you finish third, you get 10 and then, you know, the top 20 with the most points qualify to get in. So it's, it's tough. It's, uh, you know, they say the, the best way to become a millionaire in the horse business is to start with a billion. So that's what Dave. Portnoy says. He's like, I'm poor for this game. Oh yeah. And it's about how many people it takes to get there from the boarding farm to the vet, to the van company, to, uh, the trainer, to the groom, to the blacksmith, to the chiropractor, to the jockey, to the jockey agent. I mean, you could go down the list of people. I mean, it's a multi-billion dollar industry and it's, it's supplies so many jobs around the country and it's. It's the oldest sport in America and, um, you know, it's, I try to get people involved in the game and it's, you gotta love it though. I mean, it's, it's, you're going to have your pitfalls and it's a money pit, but it's a, it's a total blast. So when you say the money pit, I mean, you made, you know, just about 65, $66 million in your career. Have you put like a cap? All right. I could spend this much on horses and then that's it. She retired last week, played five pro seasons, including the last two here with Boston of the PWHL. Uh, this resume unreal. She went Olympic gold in 2018, Olympic silver in 2022, three world championship golds, two world championship silvers, a U18 world championship gold. And when she was at the university of Minnesota, she went three national championships in four years. I was the frozen for most outstanding play her junior year. When she scored the title winning goal versus Harvard. And the other year they lost. And the final. So a great kid. I got friendly with her when she played here in Boston through our friend, Kelly Babstock. So a shout out to Hannah. Enjoy retirement, my friend. I'm glad you brought up the ladies. Our race. uh and you guys have aunts uncles whatever like grandfathers who served my grandfather did um a marine legend of a guy and actually my parents went to uh normandy recently and they they went on a viking cruise where you go and and you see um you know you see everything you see omaha beach you see all the beaches you see the cemetery you see just something there's a museum and they said it was the most touching like my dad couldn't even describe it he's like i was so emotional um and that's something that is for sure on my bucket list to get over there and i think the the feeling you have like the eerie feeling and the respect and i mean there's canadians america there's so many different nationalities that that fought that war that i have to get over there and see that the way they were just fighting and i think that's describing it to me yeah true true yeah yeah i got both my grandparents uh both my grandfathers uncles py my uncle py was in the army um my father-in-law purple heart uh from vietnam uh my brother-in-law bobby noonan um yeah so a ton of us and uh yeah i i told my parents if i didn't make the nhl when i told them i was leaving not going to school they were like what's your backup plan and i want to go to school and they were like what's your backup plan and i want to be in the military so it's one of those things where it's in when it's in your family especially especially you know you see what they went through you you hear the stories like you just have so much pride of being american and having people that in your family that have fought for you and uh truly a special day for them so make sure you reach out to everyone that that was that served us and you know they're the reason why we get to live this beautiful life absolutely what just like the fact that like you know we get to to live in in free countries and and and we have the ability to do what we want to do because of the ultimate sacrifice that people made for us it's one of those things where like wait i couldn't even imagine going to like normandy and just like sit and stand there in silence and just picturing what people had to like get off a boat knowing getting off a boat getting gunned down like it's insane at at you know 17 18 19 years old like kids like yeah we were we were going off to japan we were going to japan we were going to japan we and you know we were intimidated fucking going to you know on the bus and going to away buildings having to play against 20 year olds maybe thinking we were going to get beat up like could you imagine flying overseas knowing that you might not be coming back all to just provide the freedom for your country so it's pretty like crazy and it's obviously huge that we take days like this to stop and remember what these people did for us and uh we live in amazing amazing world for the i mean north america we you know we get to live the way we we do because of of the sacrifice that people made so i can't i don't think we could speak highly enough from those people who did that and and and obviously we're so grateful that they did especially you hear stories like kids like that with like you know lied about their age going in like 15 and 16 years old you just think of that well how about the guys who like were crushed like souls crushed when they had a an issue that wouldn't allow them to serve like right you know a bad feeder like an example like club feed it's like they were they were they were crushed by that so i mean my parents said that when you go there like the cliffs my dad or my mom was saying like i don't know how they got through like i don't because the weather was so bad so they didn't have a lot of coverage overhead from planes and he's like i don't understand how these guys like ended up getting up there and like stopping all the gunners that the nazis had set up it was just something that that after hearing from them after their trip i'm like i'm i'm doing that at some point and funny enough rider who's eight and a half he's all he does is play he plays with his battleships he's always watching movies about but he's obsessed with like the navy it's so interesting like he'll watch a hockey game with me but he's right back to the battleships and then watching videos about it it's pretty cool i'm like wow i'm like i think you might have a lot bigger balls than your old man because i had the bad feet i wouldn't have been able to come serve with you guys i would have been back home taking care of everyone for you guys you know me you know i'd be what's your girlfriend doing does she need me to bring over groceries yeah wit take your bad feet over and then clean my house while you're at it that's kind of where i just make sure you get in the right escalator on the way home when you mentioned the cliffs went like when you know what spielberg did with saving private ryan was just absolutely incredible like the like the first time you see that movie man you just slack jawed for the next two hours but another great movie the longest day it was made in the 60s and it's you know about the invasion of d-day as well and it's incredible movie they had like every major star in the world practically uh and like the what how what they were able to accomplish back in the uh back in the 60s was amazing but yeah you brought that up recently right yeah yeah because i hadn't heard of that i'm gonna check that out yeah definitely and band of brothers is the great miniseries to check out as well gee i know you uh you had uh family members were gonna get you here uh my grandpa was a marine uh he was the best and it's pretty cool like my dad is uh he's obviously so proud of his dad he he did so many different things in his life more than catholic hall of fame started all these different businesses but when you ask my dad about his dad being a marine he was like oh my god i'm gonna he almost gets emotional talking about it it's it's pretty cool to hear and one thing i do want to shout out is in honor of memorial day we filmed that chiclets university at army west point very end of the video we had the opportunity coach riley and a few of the guys took us up to the trail of the fallen which is a trail right outside of west point where you walk up the trail and you you have a rock in in memory of someone that that gave the ultimate sacrifice in war so you get to the top of this mountain and there's a giant like 100 foot american flag biggest american flag you've ever seen and all around it is names on these rocks of guys who gave guys and girls who gave the ultimate sacrifice and there's little stories written about each person and when you're up top there you you kind of realize like man like it's it's so much bigger like these kids at army they're playing for something so much bigger than you know just just going out there to score a goal it's it's it's emotional go watch that video but you know shout out to all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice because i guess there's a uh brendan burn keith and i's friend and his son james is on riders team they're good buddies same age he was telling me that i think at 10 years old there's a west point hockey camp it's a sleepover hockey camp and that's one that i know for rider too like he would love that and then you know i'm sure the kids are taught and they see what actually goes on there and the intensity these guys have and what it means so that's something i'm going to be looking into in a couple years awesome with it too like they invite tons of local high school teams they yeah pittsburgh did it yeah they invite tons of people there just to go through it do the trail of the fallen they do all these military exercises and they show what a day in the life is like for these people and it's it's just i i left there being like i am not a fucking man these guys are so much more of a man than me your wrists would have kept you out of the military oh you're like dude you're like you gotta hold this gun i yeah i uh what about you all right yeah my uncle mike my mother's uh brother he uh he was in vietnam you know he he paid his price he come home like a lot of guys and pretty pretty banged up for a while but he fortunately got better and got into the recovery community and helped a lot of people out after he got sober came home with a nice little ak 47 too for a little souvenir uh my grandfather he was uh in the navy he served in the south pacific during world war ii he was on i believe it aircraft carrier i hit by a kamikaze man he didn't you know he survived it and all but saw some crazy shit my old man was in the army fortunately he didn't get out summit for vietnam my father was in the army he was in the army he was in the army he was in the army my father-in-law he's still my father-in-law jack he was in vietnam as well this is these two last two are crazy i didn't know about this till later in life my uncle my uncle my great uncle jimmy my grandmother's brother um he was a medic and fucking the battle of bulge he was a conscientious objector because he was a cat like devout catholic he wouldn't carry a gun so he was a medic uh like like through some of the bloodiest battles in world war ii like the battle of bulge and like yeah he just had you know the red cross thing there didn't carry a weapon and just was a was a medic for these guys because like i only saw him you know as an old guy you know he was always you know under the weather shall we say and i and i realized why because he had ptsd like that stuff wasn't diagnosed back then they called it you know stuff he saw yeah you know uh with shell shock they used to call it so i and i didn't find out about this till later life and then this is the craziest one my my great great uncle hugh mcgonigal come over from ireland and he joined the navy uh to get citizenship and he was on the uss main i know you probably heard of it you know the spanish-american war uh that got blown up in havana harbour my great great uncle was killed on that and like nobody in my family knew this my my grandfather told me not long before he died so it was like not a secret just you know like they just didn't know typical irish families back then they didn't talk about shit i was down allington national cemetery and i saw that once of the tomb of the unknown soldiers you know ceremony there and then i looked at the map and i see uss main memorial i said i gotta go over there check this out and they you know they went back uh sometime later and they and they got the mask from the ship and they put a memorial with the mask like in a big sit like a cylinder of concrete and i look up and there's my great great uncle's name hugh mcgonigal at allington national i had no idea like you know you again hallowed ground you go there it's just such a solemn place and we had no idea our family name was was on a stone there because they went back and they got a lot of the remains and brought them back and they were actually the first soldiers and sailors that were killed overseas and buried at allington national so that's i like i told my uncles and my dad and nobody in my family knew so it was just this crazy history i'm glad i got to find out so yeah pretty uh pretty wild stuff man so again good topic though yeah yeah great job yeah good conversation so uh moving along classic recommendation we'll have a little fun midnight run uh one of the best comedies of the 80s it's actually robert denaro's first real comedy it's him and charles groden denaro's the bounty hunter he has to track down charles groden and meanwhile all these mobsters are trying to chase him down might be on netflix right now i believe but legit one of the funniest like comedy action movies of the 80s and again it's denaro's first comedy role so give it a whirl and keith you never saw that midnight run no i gotta check that out yeah give it give it a davidge passed away last week at uh 72 so we want to send condolences to his family friends in the columbus family as well we're sorry to hear that and uh i hate to end on a tough note but uh we had a bad bad day in boston yesterday as i woke up to the news that uh boston firefighter robert killed a bk as he was known was killed in a fire in dorchester oh man uh and it's you know like i've said before my you know and keith you know your grandfather was was a jake and you know when you grow up without your family it never goes away so when this happens it just it just it's heartbreaking for everybody but particularly for those people who have you know firefighters in the family whether they're active retired and i got a lot of great buddies on the job and uh you know like we talked about trooper trainer a couple weeks ago and these uh you know civil servants who give their lives for us but uh you know you just go to work one day you don't know if you're gonna come home so you know uh we send out you know deepest condolences and sympathies to the boston fight apartment and the family and uh you know we love you bk and uh thank you for your sacrifice that was just brutal keith is that your grandfather's old yep that's that's awesome look at that look at this thing but it's crazy like firefighters you're a lot of time you're like oh it's such a great job right like they you know it's like i think they work uh 24 on a couple days off 24 off and and in theory yeah but then like buddy they get that bell rung and they're they're walking into a fucking fight it's just so crazy like the difference in when the job is maybe low key at times and then the fact that when it's time it's like here we go and that i saw that i think he was on the third floor the floor gave way fell down just horrible news i'm glad you brought that up yeah that was my pop that that was in the boston globe several years ago my old bin putting out a fire right there so first time you see him in person man you shit your pants you realize how the job they do so again oh yeah i was a kid my my dad was a volunteer for like 30 years and i'll never forget like i was like he got a call and he had me like i was with him and we were just at the he had to drop us off at this house across the street and like obviously the lady took us in and i'll never forget like watching this huge fire and they went and like fought it and and put it out and you know you're you're like six years old you're like holy shit this is what this guy's doing every every wednesday to go for calls and go for meetings for like this is what this is why his pager's going off sometimes in the middle of the night so pretty pretty crazy stuff and the fact that these people are doing it as like a regular job all the time it fucking you know same same thing goes for the people who had the ultimate sacrifices they're laying on the line just to keep us safe and yeah it's a credit to them and we love you guys all
