I mean, we're just going to go the overtime and the only way that this story ends is if they score right in front of us and they start jumping into the boards in front with me and Lukia. He's like, what are you talking about? And they said, the boys say that you said that it hurts more if it goes by you. And he was hilarious. He's like, I never said that. Yeah. He was stone face. I didn't. I don't know. It turns out John Stevens had said it first, like joking around almost, but then the players took it as like a mantra. And I don't know if John Stevens was joking, maybe like in a way, but it is true. Like anybody, it hurts a lot more seeing the red light go on. Unless you're McKinnon and it hits you and you can't play the rest of the game, but they are blocking shots. That is a torts staple. They're dominating the board battles, all the puck battles on the boards. This series, they are dominant in Colorado. I think that's a massive reason that we're up three. We just wanted more. You mentioned the quote that Stevens created. I know Dylan Codland has been using that a lot. Years ago, it's hurts to win. My thing, you got to be lucky to be good. All these low mantras. I mean, he was out for for a few games, but that's a hard and sole player. Yeah. Uh, when when I think about the cup team, I think about Alc Martinez and all the pox that he, a brand like that McNabb does the same thing. Having them out is such a big loss. With the hurricanes, but I pride myself, um, on being objective and, you know, I said here and think about when Keith Yandell during his Iron Man streak, I came over who was playing for Florida at the time and he had to go get some dental work and I probably spent half a period when he returned in that game and Raleigh singing his praises. So I appreciate you saying that, you know, you're in Puerto Rico. I'm thinking about the best player on Montreal through two games. It wasn't Puerto Rico, but another sunny locale. I spent a couple of consecutive days with Josh Anderson in the Keynes cool. It was a great guy in the Keynes cool him. I tell you, they did, well, they didn't because he had those two huge goals in game two, but they were able to come out with the win. I want to ask you this, the game, game one, and we haven't even, we haven't been on since game once. We have both games to talk about. Meltdown. A meltdown, but also like I totally got it, like even though they scored quick, like that many days off and Slaven, who never plays bad, having the worst game of his career, I get it. And we'll get into that game. But game two, Carolina dominated the game, but once I saw the numbers, some Canadians fair to saying it wasn't as bad as it maybe looked on the stat sheet. Do you agree with that? Or do you think that was complete hurricane's domination? I, you know, I'm back here in Montreal in the mail room right now and you know, I haven't been in a playoff series here in 20 years. I'm blessed to call a couple of really good ones in 2002 and 2006, 2006 when the hurricanes ended up winning the Stanley Cup. The first round, they were down to nothing to these Montreal Canadians. They started a rookie in Cam Ward when we came here and the reason I bring that up is because I thought that even though the hurricanes won in six, it took until game five to show a semblance of what their game should look like. And, you know, that's what encouraged me most about game two is that the hurricane's game looked the way it was supposed to look. And you know, I probably put as much stock into that boys as I do with the fact that dealers found a way to win it in overtime because you just don't have the runway to, you know, in the case of 20 years ago, in my opinion, wait until game five. And so to see a look after the break, after how poorly it looked, especially defensively in game one, to look the way it did in game two, that made and makes me hopeful. That was probably one of the biggest storylines we talked about of the desk going into game two, where the guys making the money for Carolina had to step up, right? I think it's been a little underwhelming for Ajo's fetch. And I think that Jarvis's game has picked up maybe the overall points haven't been there. But for dealers like that big offseason acquisition, signing him to over 50 million and him getting those two goals and especially that OT one, he was very emotional after the game. I guess his father had traveled in for the game and gave him some very encouraging words beforehand, before he left for the rink and he was, he was, he was very, very emotional post game in that interview. Did he say what he said to him or no? No, he kept it between him. He just basic. I think that, you know, either was like fighting it a little bit, right? He wants to contribute offensively. He loves this group of guys and even as we were doing the interview trip, a few guys were walking by and they kind of just gave him that like grab on the shoulder and you could just tell this group really loves one another. Yeah. Yeah. Boy, dealers and if you want to circle back to the Diaho line after Biz because they're going to need to be particularly good on the road, but I'll stick with, with dealers. You know, I remember either right before the hurricane signed him and he chose Carolina because he had some big time suitors. I mean, it certainly think, you know, right nearer at the top of that list, the Washington capitals. And, you know, that's a big moment that Nikolaeelers chose the hurricanes. And I remember Paul Maurice calling me because Paul coached a lot of his career and Paul told me he said he's going to be a perfect fit. And the other thing that Paul told me and I think he referenced, I don't know if it was a regular season game or a playoff game, but he said trip. He has no problem when there's no room and things get physical and he referenced to, I think that he lures when he was a jet challenged Ryan gets left at one point in time. And, you know, so, you know, what I've liked most about Nikolaeelers is a Carolina has had an abundance of trouble scoring big goals of big times and specifically, historically in Eastern Conference Final. But I've watched the playoff so far when teams try to get physical on him. He responds immediately and his game seems to elevate. So he's been a perfect fit. And it was on display for him to have that emotion and talking to your Turner crew after the game biz and to do it with his dad there was a coach in Switzerland. Hines, I believe his name has been a forever coach and really a Danish legend. But to do it in front of the huge canyacs was was visibly meaningful to a guy that's fit and beautifully. And another thing to like to not complain that he's on the third line, like I love how they're able to distribute and, you know, they got two snow plows on that line in Martinok install guys who can create space win the board battles. But like for him to be put on that third line and not bitch, it seems like that's a, that's a pretty selfless thing, right, for a guy who's making that much money and who's probably played top six most of his career and quickly, quickly trip. I just want to mention I was surprised that they went to stall against Suzuki in game two. They didn't have it in game one. It was the kind of soft aho. It wasn't a hard line matchup. They go to stall and I'm like, Oh, geez, which by the way, stalls 37 years old and the way bring them more talks about, I mean, call some Jordan, which cracks me up. Jordan. Yeah, Jordan, you know what you're getting from them. But I think that's going to be a lot tougher than Suzuki, Slapkovski and Caulfield playing against aho's line. Like I'd much rather that if I'm them than the way stall can just clog it up. Yeah. You may be in San Juan or wherever you are with, but you dial and I'm buzzing, and you're buzzing. I'm buzzing. And so two quick things, number one, I don't know if I shared it with you guys before. But what a story Vegas is when the hurricanes were in Vegas in October and the dealers was just about pointless. I know he was goalless in October in October. All-Stasney, I have supreme respect for his hockey IQ and for him flat out as the first and played with ealers and wet a peg. He sent me a text in October and said, "Tripper, I think that the best fit for ealers is going to be with Jordan stall and Jordan Martinok." and he explained why that was in October. So is when Paul Stasney says something to me. You know, I think you guys have either had EJ or you're gonna have EJ on. I got to know guys like Eric Johnson and Paul Stasney and a Colorado Minnesota series. I did about 10 years ago for NBC. And Stasney's IQ is through the roof. So was he dead right? You bet he was. He said that in October. And with regards to the Ajo line, that's why I think it's time. It's gotta be time right now. 'Cause if I'm Marty Sandler, we would last change. You know, I am, I'm getting the Suzuki line away from Georgia's stall. And, you know, Sebastian Ajo, along with Jarvis and Svetchenkoff. I actually thought they're better than two games was game one in that route from Montreal. They were the one bright spot. They're gonna have to be complete, period. End of story, especially if they spend a good amount of time against a Suzuki coffee on Slav Kowski. I was just gonna say, you guys held Montreal to five shots through two. Like, when you look at a Carolina team and you know that they're playing well, they're playing the way that they need to do to win, it's the shot totals. They're gonna get way more than the other team. They, I think they finished with 12. Montreal finished with 12. But like, you think they can do that on the road in a building like Montreal, 'cause it's a little bit tougher when you have last change. You know, to do it at home is a little bit easier. But to do it on the road, you think they can go out and do that tonight. - No, as a matter of fact, I spent some time with Rod Brindamore and several members of the coaching staff last night when we arrived here in Montreal. And I know they anticipate that Montreal is gonna have a higher shot volume. And Keith, my hope is that that's gonna be a very good thing for Frederick Anderson. I mean, I look at game two in particular. You know, you almost have to have played the goal-tending position to just recognize, just how incredibly hard it is when you're not seeing any shots. You're looking down and, you know, if you're not mentally strong, you're like, I don't want to be the weak link. Your mind can become the instantaneously the biggest enemy. And within that third period, I know Josh Anderson tied the game but Freddie made some quality saves. And so I'm hoping Keith that that's gonna springboard and here in the, you know, I'll playing Dolby's here on the road. Because yeah, I think like Rod Brindamore anticipates that that shot volume's gonna be higher. I couldn't believe Svetschnikov before game two said we were completely dominating them and we're gonna dominate them together. Yeah, that was a confident call. You can love this. I was like, whoa, and then they went out and they did. I mean, they got the win. Now, the slot shots is, I read it. It was nine to seven Carolina. So in terms of like the shot number, it was a little different like grade A scoring chances. But another guy, my guy, who was all over me after I picked Ottawa to win, then he texted me all over Biz after Biz. All they tell it all. He has now taken out Sanderson in the Ottawa series. Sandheim in the Philly series. And he gets Hudson with the good one. Now Hudson's good. He's already on the ice. He was on the ice. His standard 30 minutes before the Canadians this morning. But he's got that physicality to his game right now. Okay, boys, you know, and I'm a private conversations of we had, okay? For years now about the hurricanes, you know, at this time of year, you need to get heavier. They need to get tougher individually and as a group. And so far, I haven't liked all these games one and two. Like I beyond loved, you know, every game against Ottawa and Philadelphia. To the point where he almost, he got taken off that line for a couple shifts, I noticed. Yeah, he did, you know, if I were to rank Carolina's lines in game two, it would be the stall line. And then this X factor of a fourth line, where you remember every millisecond that Jay Kowsky, Carrier and Robinson are on the ice. With that being said, even within, I need to see a relocation of Stan Kovan Blake and Hall here on the road tonight. Thus far, he is the Sam Bennett of the playoffs for Carolina, where he's not going to win any publicity contests, contest with opposing fans, but is it desperately what Carolina has needed? You bet your ass it is. And so I mean, I'm, I think Taylor Hall has, I think I've spoken to you guys about it before, professionally, personally. He's already become an approaching 30 years one of my favorite hurricanes and bad heaviness, that sandpaper, the fact that he's public enemy number one, he's Sam Bennett of the playoffs so far. And I happen to be completely in love with that because it's been lacking in years past. Another guy who has impressed me a lot, and you know, if you look at their back end, you're probably not going to think of him first, but Chatfield and the play that he made in the overtime game, just recognizing that Montreal needed to change the, I think it was Captain who didn't get it deep. He just makes a nice little simple play getting it up, but he's been awesome all playoffs. And I just want you to stroke him off a little bit with how good he's been for that group because he's not a lot, he's not a guy that gets a ton of love. He often leads their team in ice time, which I found surprising too. Yeah, I think he was plus three with two assessment in game two as well. Yeah, the veterans that you guys are in, you know, I'm going to tell Jalen when I get on the bus to go to the hotel, which is said Keith, because not alone, not let alone from a former player, but a defenseman. I mean, that's the strongest compliment that one can receive. Jalen, Chatfield, the biggest praise that I can give Jalen, he's a pure Michigan, he's from Michigan like me, is that every game that he plays, I don't care if it's in the preseason or here, the conference final, he's trying to prove that he belongs in the national hockey. Yeah. And that is the most impressive thing. This is a great athlete, like a tremendous athlete that had a tremendous bounce back game in Jacob Slave, and that's his partner. But every game that Chatfield plays with his preparation and his intensity aside from his God-given talents, he's playing like he needs to show everyone that he belongs in the national hockey league. And Carolin had a terrific start to that overtime period. And if I had any concern, if Montreal was going to win an overtime, it was going to be early. And right from the stall line and the opening face off of overtime, the hurricanes dominated the overtime period. And Jalen, Chatfield just did not allow capin' and company to take a breath, you know, you got a couple of defensemen including Dops and going for a change. He makes the play. I mean, Jan Kolorsky finishes this shift in ideal fashion to get it to Elers, Nealers ends the night, but Jalen, Chatfield wasn't available along with another righty and Sean Walker in the conference final against Florida last year. You know, that's the Stanley Cup championship Florida team where the series have been different, nobody will ever know. But I know you didn't have a chance when you didn't have Chatfield and Walker on the right side. - Let's talk about, I want to talk about Slave and just a little bit more 'cause like, he was like, he ate the game one and then has an unreal bounce back game. And Jackie Redmond interviewed him after that game. And you don't often hear a lot of hockey players like talk about their faith and like, he's pretty open about it. And I would imagine being around him. He just seems like the perfect person, like a type of guy you want on the team. And I just want you to talk about like what it's been like being around him and a guy who's obviously one of the best defensive defensemen in the league. And to have a bounce back game like that contribute offensively and then have a post game interview like that. - This, I'll tell you a story. I don't share very often. But just over four years ago in April of 2022, I missed a game drinking in New York. I haven't had a drink since. The hurricane stood behind me and I flew back to Raleigh. Jacob flew with the team. They won the division that night and Madison Square Garden. He flew back with the team. I stayed in New York and Jacob Slaven offered a flyback by himself to fly back to Raleigh with me. That's the type of person that Jacob is. Now, as an analyst, so in a side from hockey, he has been very central in my journey with regards to faith. But as an analyst, I think just as an analyst, I think that it is a colossal part of his defensive greatness. I mean, here I am in Montreal where, you know, he really put himself on the map and the four nations with the first couple of games. Being a Montreal before going to Boston. And because his faith is so unshakable, he has an element of self-belief in his abilities that after a game that I simply haven't seen from number 74 as a hurricane in game one. Just as an analyst, that faith and depth to his self-belief allows him to grab the moment and not let the moment grab him. So just breaking it down as an analyst, his faith that he speaks about so openly and obviously is number one priority in life. Just as a hockey player, I believe is his best asset, aside from the fact that he's just a gifted athlete and he's a brilliant mind. But I think it's his faith that allows him to grab the moment. I'll let the moment grab him on most nights. - Awesome. I love hearing that because it's all about taking away time and space. And then the first time you see him live, you're like, I think he's one of the fastest skaters in the league. People would laugh at that, then you see him. You're like, holy shit. And then guys talk about that. But I want to ask about another guy, 'cause I think if you told Keynes fans and hockey fans that they'd be nine and one through the first 10 games of the playoffs, and Ajo would have three goals and two assists in those 10-- - Two of what you're having. empty netters you'd yet you'd say no way right like and I'm wondering what obviously the Stankham and Hall Blake line had really carried them and he didn't have to to win the copy he's gonna have to I'm wondering what you're seeing is it dripping the stick because once it starts going bad it snowballs a little like as an analyst as you mentioned what do you see and that's that's different from his usual game I don't think that listen he's one of the fiercest competitors that I've ever seen yeah he's got some rattenham too which is pretty good and what shall I I love yeah and he you know but I think there is another level and I think you've gotten to the point where it has to be there tonight and when I look at Sebastian like I just looked at the face off numbers of of game two and Suzuki was 50% Denon was 50% I would take that for the rest of the series and run for the hills when you look at the lefty and Denon on the righty and Suzuki I bring that up because Sebastian Aho when he plays his best games how he does in the face off circle is a direct barometer as to whether or not he's going to be on the score sheet whether or not he's going to be complete and when he has played his best best games I mean he's he's a minimum of 55% in the face off circle and when he's really rolling he's north of that he was in the four days in game two I didn't mind his game one and if he draws Suzuki if Marty Sanliwi wants that his mindset has got to be I'm not thinking about points there is going to be no cheat in my game it's a successful night if we keep that line off the board and I always believe when you don't have cheat you produce more offense and so that's five on five I did think that the hurricanes power play the one they add in a second and then the third period took some positive steps but I think there's a lot more room for guys like Aho whoever's got the puck on the goal line for his group to attack the puck on their toes without hesitation is to see which power play is going to get going first in this series so that's just touching upon what I'm looking for at five on five and also on the power play it seems like he has the most confidence in any dimension right now short-handed seems like he's created more chances short-handed with Jarvis than he has in the other dimensions of the game I think we've gotten to a point where he needs to be sub-assignal this is the team that you know the offer sheet was involved he has a history against Montreal producing the times got to be now in my opinion the last one I had is just like obviously if you get to the conference finals at some point in time you have to have depth step up and you mentioned them earlier that Jankowski Robinson and and carry a line like that they are unbelievable and you know they're a team that if you look most nights they're in the 11 minute range and every time they go out there and they make an impact obviously they reward a Jankowski they just reupped them but what is it about them that the how are they able to have such good chemistry and and really if they you know they have a few bad shifts Ronald throw them out there and they're able to turn the tide it seems like most times they go out there and they've obviously been producing offensively for this run well I think collectively biz that they can feel the trust and the value from the coach I think that's a factor and I looked at the sheet after the first period after the second period after the third period and then when I went home on Saturday night and I swore they played more that's how that's to what degree I remembered every millisecond of every shift that they had so quickly touching on all three guys will carry I mean if my gosh has even good when he won the Stanley Cup with Vegas no doubt about it hands down his best series was the conference final against Dallas where I thought he was a huge part of the Golden Knights even get into the final where they beat Florida so he's got a history in conference final he's got it it's a classic story that will carry a has said even his wife being from Quebec is rooting for the Montreal Canadian he's been outstanding Eric Robinson I still think is scratching the surface when you look at his size his speed ultra likable teammate I like the fact that he's shooting in stride from a distance here so far in this series with the flies he flies and I like on Dolby's I like that blocker location you know he scored there in game one that's where Eeler scored that's where Jarvis scored George install hit the post but you know Robinson recognized all about a week or two from free agency that the grass isn't greener because I think he would have made more in free agency but it's tough to be in a spot where a coach believes in you like Rob Brindamore does an Eric Robinson I think Eric Robinson realized that what a signing that was speaking of signings I thought it was really smart to extend Jan Kowski between series because he has had a ton of chances he said two goals taken off the board so far in these playoffs and you never know you guys played the game you'd know better than me but signing him extending him which I think is a great value for the hurricanes might settle those hands now that that's taken care of just enough that that could be the difference now that that extension is in place so I thought that was really smart by the hurricanes in his particular case to get the Swiss Army knife that he is extended between the second and now the conference final. But do you not see how this fits in perfectly with like his personality and persona as a coach? Absolutely. And I think I've talked to him a little bit down the stretch and I'm sure you've heard him say it in the media, but in Philly, he kind of had to babysit a little bit, right? Young team, guys that didn't know how to navigate themselves through the league. And he steps into a proven bona fide winning team that just needed a little bit of direction to steer the ship. And that's what he's done. And his presence in front of a team is so mesmerizing. Like when he speaks, you're just like, and as far as I'm concerned, like you are so locked in on what he's saying. And I find him so fast and to listen to when you go into a team like he has in Vegas, they just needed a little, like a little tweak in the right direction. And I think he can wear out his welcome in certain situations, but I don't see it happening because even if he's there long term, he's a guy that trusts the players. If he's, if they're in a situation where he's, they've earned his trust. And I think those guys have based on what they've done in the past. DJ, do you think it has something to do with him being a, like him, him going into the Olympics and being an assistant coach and not having to be the head coach and just being a guy to, you know, be the shoulder lean on whatever, but it seems like every guy when we talk to them after the Olympics, like dude, he was unbelievable as an assistant coach, like was there making jokes, having fun. Like you think it changed him a little bit or he's still the same guy. I think he's the same guy, but I don't think he's the same guy he was 10 years ago, 20 years ago. Like as a player, you have to evolve your career and as a coach, you're no different. So what I think is so amazing is he's, he found a way to stay sharp. Well, he, I mean, let's face it a month ago, a little over a month ago, he's, you know, eating hot dogs on the ESPN panel with Butchegross and Levy, right? And now he's coaching the team to maybe one win away from the Stanley Cup final. Pretty, pretty incredible. I don't think anyone sought towards coaching the NHL this year, especially when he got hired. And I'm, I'm really happy for him because I know he was still hungry for this. And you can tell he's pushing all the right buttons. And his voice is not wearing out. I mean, that these guys clearly love playing for him. It's obvious. So I got to ask you because you played for Bednar. And people were trying to make a little bit of his quote with Kale McCarr and how he phrased it about saying it's basic Kale's decision. Now what did you make of that? I thought personally it was a bit of a nothing burger that spiraled out of control. What do you think knowing Bednar and obviously knowing Kale McCarr? I agree, because I think this time of year, media is trying to find absolutely anything to run with. Right? I mean, I think, you know, they're trying to make something out of nothing there. Do I think that the abs worth saying maybe to themselves or in the back of their head, like, let's go Kale, we might, we need you here. Like, maybe I don't know that for sure. I'm just guessing, but I think I don't think Bednar was trying to make a big deal out of it in the media, wrong place, wrong time, not how he operates. So for me, complete nothing burger, like you said, but at the same time, I think they were thinking, like, if we're going anywhere, we need you. You know, maybe that's the obvious, but maybe you missed a certain next season because you get a little more dinged up right now, who cares? That's not going to win without Kale McCarr. And you could tell obviously by watching last night, he's probably 70, 75% at best, but yeah. And, but that's better than a lot of guys best, right? So I think what a what a steep hole the climb out of, I mean, they're all but done, but you never know, right? I made a team can come back and win. It's these guys, but probably known to Chushkin, probably no McCarr. Do they go to Blackwood? Or sorry, not no McCarr, but not a 100% McCarr. Do they stay with Wedgwood? I mean, a lot of balls up in the air right now. Tough, tough, tough sledding at ads land right now. One, one thing I just want to quickly say is, so you saw what Mariner said after the game about how the group stays positive, regardless of what situation they're in. And you know, sometimes it's easier said when you're when you have all the confidence in the world and everything is going your way, I do feel like the abs are a little tight and they're not really dealing with their adversity as well as as Vegas is. Does sometimes Nate's intensity maybe rub guys the wrong way and force other guys to maybe grip their sticks a little tight? Like I know we love him for his intensity and what he brings. But do you think that that if they end up losing and getting beat out here in the conference final? Do you think that's something that they maybe have to evaluate and work on in order to get themselves back to winning another cup in the near future? Great, great question. And I think for me Nate's not going to change and I think that's part of what makes him great as you all know, but they have enough counterbalance in that locker room to level that out. And I think a lot of it gets overblown with Nate because he's not just going to hide it in the public eye. He's not going to hide it because he's on camera or anything like that. But he can really uplift you and be a positive guy as well. I mean, he's intense first, but there's a lot of layers to Nate that a lot of people don't see. And he's not just yelling and screaming at guys all the time. You know, he's picking guys up when they're down too. So I think they have Landis Gog and Burns and Manson and Nelson and all these guys that can do that for Nate. But he's just a guy that we're just hard on his sleeve. But I think you're looking at the ads now and you're looking at their core like they're getting a little bit older here. Like how big is their window? I don't want to say it's closing, but it's not opening, right? So they're still in the window to win. But I mean, this is just shot. You're still shocking to me. Like if they lost in seven, which you know, that's a that's a stretch right now to happen. But if say it was a back and forth, you know, teams traded wins and you know, went one, one, two, two, three, three and they lose. Okay, so what? But when you get swept like this and lose game three like you did last night, I mean, a lot of questions have to be asked and they've already played shake up the core card with Ranton, right? So they played that card. What's the next card they play if they still feel like their windows open, which I think it is. But what do they do? Is it, is it the coach? Is it another core shakeup? Are they trying to tweak around the edges with guys? I don't know. They've revamped their gold tending, they traded ranting in. What's the common denominator? I think Jared Bednar is one of the best coaches in NHL. He gets scooped up in one second if he gets fired. But where do they go from here? If they get swept or lose in fiber or whatever, you know, I mean, it's it'll be interesting to see what happens. Like, as you think, maybe they need a little need a little bit more tougher love, kind of like Vegas just got. I don't know what it is exactly. I think, I think Jared Bednar is a heck of a coach, but at that, at the same time, if you go through the window of La Skog, McKinnon and McCarran, you only get one cup in that whole avalanche era of their greatness. I think that's a failure, right? And I don't pin it on Bednar. I think he's an awesome coach. If they lose in the conference final, which it looks like, they probably will. You never, never say never, you know, they could go on a historic comeback. But what's the next move? I meant you said to hear what you guys think they're two because I don't know. You played the franchise, player card, like you did with ranting and you shake up the core, you know, they've done everything. What's next? Well, the carl situation, that's what everyone's talking about. Yeah, that's what they're saying. He's going to coach both teams. I don't see that happening. I'll come down right now. Moral saying that, oh my God, you, Bednar's let go. Carl doesn't have to move. And he takes over. Seems a little crazy, but you never know. I do think that this one's different because yeah, like ranting, it's gone. They've made all these moves. But in Blutman, said it, our guys, there's so much luck. You went through this. There's so much luck that you need to have great point. And Makar, he's been banged up since before the playoffs. Now McKinnon's injured. No, granted it was in the in a game where they're trying to stay alive in a series. And there's just a bunch of like bad luck that it seems like they've dealt with at least in the playoffs so far. So you looking at it like, well, if Makar is healthy, we're a completely different team. Or is it just like everyone's bad on injuries and we have to shake something up again? That's the question that'll be asked. But I just can't believe it. I know you, Ab's fans didn't think this would be a series. Like a lot of them shouldn't put everyone under the same umbrella. And I was like, I don't see how they're this confident going into this the way Vegas has looked, even though it was the ducks and Utah. Yeah. And I want to mention one other thing. You need goal tenning in the playoffs. And if you get the hot hand, like Vegas has gotten with Carter, I mean, his numbers are ridiculous. And that was the one thing missing from Vegas. All season long, all their metrics were top 10 throughout the entire league. They had the second worst or the worst five on five save percentage and still Carter heart came back. So they were just missing goal 10 and they got heart. And the other thing towards does is he can empower you and give you a ton of confidence. And that's what he's done with Carter heart. I know he went in there and said, heart see, you're my guy. You're our number one guy. If we're going anywhere, it's cozy you. And you could totally tell Carter hearts playing like he knows how valuable he is to that team. And that's what torts can do. He can tear you down, but he can also build you up. And so, oh, yeah. I mean, it's it's it's I didn't think it would be a sweep or Vegas in five, which is looking like that's probably what it's going to be. I mean, I thought Colorado would win in six, but Colorado's not getting the saves. Vegas is Colorado's power play. It has not looked good. And McCars is at 70% and now you're probably looking at no McKinney next game. I guarantee you he feels worse right now. This morning, then he does you guys know that you did last. So we bought this horse last July out of an auction and his sire, his father is Nyquist. And the guy bottom with his name is Paul Redham. He owned Nyquist and Nyquist won the Kentucky Derby. And so Nyquist has turned into one of the best stallions in the world. And so this horse came up for sale. Paul likes to buy his sons of Nyquist since he raised Nyquist and asked me to take a quarter share in the horse. And I did. And he battled some injury issues when we bought him in July. But now he's coming back and doing pretty well. So we're optimistic today. And he's the morning line favorite. So $200,000 pot. And we're hoping to take it home today. Yeah. And it is like because he's battled through these injuries and he's on the other side. Is that why you named him Malarchuk? Sorry. Sorry. He was probably named before him. Yeah. It didn't used to be like that. Where now you have to qualify for the race. Exactly. Used to be based on earnings. Now it's a tiered point system. So there's races from October up until the Derby where you qualify with points and the top 20 horses with the most points get in. So if you finish first in a big race, you'll get 50 points. If you finish second, you'll get 20. If you finish third, you get 10. And then you know, the top 20 with the most points qualify to get in. So it's it's tough. It's you know, they say the the best way to become a millionaire in the horse business is to start with a billion. So that's what Dave Portney says. He's like, I'm poor for this game. Oh yeah. It is so close. If you have the horse bug and you love horse racing, I can't even describe how close the feeling is to to the same as scoring a goal or like literally winning the Stanley Cup and then seeing your horse win. It's like some people have the exact same feeling. I mean, the cups a little bit better, but that adrenaline rush between the two sports is amazing. It's it's a adrenaline junkie sport for sure. And it's a team sport too, right? It's not just the horse and the jockey out there. Like everyone's always thanking the trainers, thanking the owner. a complete team effort. I could go down the line, Janze, about how many people it takes to get there from the boarding farm to the vet, to the van company, to the trainer, to the groom, to the blacksmith, to the chiropractor, to the jockey, to the jockey agent. I mean, you could go down the list of people. It's a multi-billion dollar industry and it supplies so many jobs around the country. And it's, it's all the sport in America. And you know, it's, I try to get people involved in the game and it's, you got to love it though. I mean, it's, you're going to have your pitfalls and it's a money pit, but it's a, it's a total blast. So when you say the money pit, I mean, you made, you know, just about 65, 66 million dollars in your career, have you put like a cap? All right, I could spend this much on horses and then that's it. And obviously, we love all guys and gals who who's laid down their life. So as goofy idiots can do what we do here and make a living off it. So now you guys have ensembles, whatever, like grandfathers who served my grandfather did a marine legend of a guy. And actually, my parents went to Normandy recently. And they went on a Viking cruise where you go and you see, you know, you see everything. You see Omaha Beach. You see all the beaches. You see the cemetery. You see just something. There's a museum and they said it was the most touching. Like, my dad couldn't even describe it. He's like, I was so emotional. And that's something that is for sure on my bucket list to get over there. And I think the feeling you have, like the eerie feeling and the respect and I'm in this Canadians America. There's so many different nationalities that fought that war that I have to get over there and see that the way they were describing it to me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I got both my grandparents, or both my grandfather's uncles, PY, my uncle PY was in the army. My father-in-law purple heart from Vietnam, my brother-in-law, Bobby Noonan. Yeah. So a ton of us. Yeah. I told my parents if I didn't make the NHL when I told them I was leaving, it's not going to school. They were like, what's your backup plan? And I wanted to be in the military. So it's one of those things where it's in when it's in your family, especially, especially, you know, you see what they went through. You hear the stories like you just have so much pride of being American and having people that in your family that have fought for you and truly a special day for them. So make sure you reach out to everyone that was that served us. And, you know, they're the reason why we get to live this beautiful life. Absolutely. What about do you think this? I mean, no, no, no, I, but like just like the fact that like, you know, we get to live in free countries and, and we have the ability to do what we want to do because of the ultimate sacrifice that people made for us. It's one of those things where, like, we had, I couldn't even imagine going to like Normandy and just like sit and stand there and silence and just picturing what people had to like get off a boat knowing. Getting gone down. It's insane. At, you know, 17, 18, 19 years old, like kids, like, yeah, we were going off to junior and, you know, we were intimidated fucking going to, you know, on the bus and going to away buildings, having to play against 20 year olds, maybe thinking we were going to get beat up. Like, could you imagine flying overseas? No one that you might not be coming back all to just provide the freedom for your country. So it's pretty like crazy. And it's obviously huge that we take days like this to stop and remember what these people did for us. And we live an amazing, amazing world for the most part now. And I know there's still bullshit going on. But I mean, North America, we, you know, we get to live the way we do it because of other sacrifice that people made. So I can't, I don't think we could speak highly enough for those people who did that. And, and obviously we're so grateful that they did. Especially to hear stories like kids like that with like, you know, light about their age going to like 15 and 16 years old. Just think of that. Well, how about the guys who like were crushed, like souls crushed when they had an issue that wouldn't allow them to serve? Like, you know, a bad feeder, like an example, like club feed or something. They were, they were, they were crushed by that. So I mean, my parents said that when you go there, like the cliffs, my dad or my mom was saying, like, I don't know how they got through. Like I don't, because the weather was so bad, so they didn't have a lot of coverage overhead from planes. And he's like, I don't understand how these guys, like, ended up getting up there and like, stopping all the gunners that the Nazis had set up. It was just something that, that after hearing from them after their trip, I'm like, I'm doing that at some point. And funny enough, Ryder, who's eight and a half, he's, all he does is play, he plays with his battleships. He's always watching movies about, but he's obsessed with like the Navy. It's so interesting. Like, he'll watch a hockey game with me, but he's right back to the battleships and then watching videos about it. It's pretty cool. I'm like, wow. I'm like, I think you might have a lot bigger balls than your old man because I had the bad feet. I wouldn't have been able to come serve with you guys. I would have been back home, taken care of everyone for you guys. You know me, you know, I'd be like, Biz, what's your girlfriend doing? Does she need me to bring over groceries? Yeah, wait, take your bad feet over and then clean my house. Yeah. That's kind of where I was. Just make sure you get the right escalator in the way home. When you mentioned the cliffs wet, like, you know, what Spielberg did with saving private Ryan was just absolutely incredible. Like the, like, the first time you see that movie, man, you just slapped you out for the next two hours. But another great movie, the longest day, it was made in the 60s and it's, you know, about the invasion of D day as well. And it's incredible movie. They had like every major star in the world, practically. And like the, what they were able to accomplish back in the, back in the 60s was amazing. But yeah, you brought that up recently, right? Yeah. I hadn't heard of that. I'm going to check that out. Yeah, definitely. And Banda brothers, the great miniseries to check out as well. Gee, I know you had family. I was going to get to here. My grandpa was a marine. He was the best that it's pretty cool. Like my dad is, uh, he's obviously so proud of his dad. He did so many different things in his life. Maul then Catholic Hall of Fame started all these different businesses. But when you ask my dad about his dad being a marine, he almost gets emotional talking about it. It's, it's pretty cool to hear. And one thing I do want to shout out is in honor of Memorial Day, we filmed that checklist university at our west point, very end of the video. We had the opportunity coach Riley and a few of the guys took us up to the trail of the fallen, which is a trail right outside of west point where you walk up the trail and you, you have a rock in, in memory of someone that, that gave the ultimate sacrifice and war. So you get to the top of this mountain and there's a giant like hundred foot American flag, biggest American flag you've ever seen. And all around it is names on these rocks of guys who gave, guys and girls who gave the ultimate sacrifice. And there's little stories written about each person. And when you're up top there, you, you kind of realize like, man, like it's, it's so much bigger. Like these kids at army, they're playing for something so much bigger than, you know, just, just going out there, score a goal. It's, it's emotional. Go watch that video. But, you know, shout out to all of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice because there's a Brendan Burm Keith and I's friend and his son James is on rider's team. They're good buddies. Same age. He was telling me that I think at 10 years old, there's a west point hockey camp. It's a sleepover hockey camp. And that's one that I know for rider, too. Like he would love that. And then you know, I'm sure the kids are taught and they see what, what actually goes on there and the intensity these guys have and what it means. So that's something I'm going to be looking into in a couple of years. Point awesome with it, too. Like they invite tons of local high school teams, they invite tons of pro teams. I know you guys went you and we did it. Yeah, Pittsburgh did it. Yeah, they invite tons of people here to go through it, do the trail of the fall and they do all these military exercises. And they show what a day in the life is like for these people. And it's, it's just I left there being like, I am not a fucking man. These guys are so much more of a man than me. Your wrists would have kept you out of the military. I'm like, dude, you like their hold this gum. Yeah, I, uh, what about you? Yeah, my uncle Mike, my mother's brother, he, he was in Vietnam. You know, he paid his price. He come home like a lot of guys and pretty, pretty banged up for a while. But he, he fortunately got better and got into the recovery community and helped a lot of people out after he got sober came home with a nice little AK 47, too, for a little souvenir. My grandfather, he was, uh, in the Navy served in the South Pacific or World War II. He was on, I believe it at aircraft carrier. I, like, they hit me. I got come a cosy man. He didn't, he, you know, he survived that now, but saw some crazy shit. My old man was in the army. Fortunately, he didn't get down some for Vietnam. My father and I, well, he's still my father. Jack, he was in Vietnam as well. these two last two a craze, I didn't know about this the later in life. My uncle, my great uncle Jimmy, my grandma's brother, he was a medic and fucking the battle of bulge. He was a conscientious ejector because he was a cat, like devout Catholic. He wouldn't carry a gun. So he was a medic, like, like through some of the bloodiest battles in World War II, like the battle of bulge. Like, yeah, he just had, you know, the Red Cross thing. They didn't carry a weapon and just was a, was a medic for these guys because I only saw him. You know, as an old guy, you know, he was always, you know, under the weather shell, he say, and I, and I realized why? Because he had PTSD, like that stuff wasn't diagnosed back then. They called it, you know, stuff he saw. Yeah, you know, shell shock he used to call it. So I, and I didn't find out about this to later life. And then this is the craziest one. My, my great, great uncle, he was a long ago, come over from Ireland and he joined the Navy to get citizenship. And he was on the USS Maine. I don't know, you probably heard of it, you know, remember that it's like the Spanish American war. I got blown up in Havana Habba. My great, great uncle was killed on that. And like, nobody in my family knew this. My, my grandfather told me not long before he died. So it was like, got a secret. Just, you know, like, they just, you know, typical Irish family from back that they didn't talk about shit. I was down to national cemetery. And I saw that once of the tomb of the unknown soldier, you know, ceremony there. And then I looked at the map and I see USS Maine Memorial. I said, I got to go over and check this out. And they, you know, they went back some time later and they, and they got the mask from the ship. And they put a memorial with the mask like in a big, like a cylinder concrete. And I look up and there's my great, great uncle's name, human bond will, and I went to national delight. No idea. Like, you know, you know, this again, hallowed ground, you go there. It's just such a solemn place. And we had no idea our family name was, was on a stone there. And because they went back and, and they got a lot of the remains and brought them back. And they were actually the first soldiers and sailors that were killed overseas and buried it on international. So that's like, like my told my uncle's and my dad and nobody in my family knew, so it was just this crazy history. I'm glad I got to find out. So yeah, pretty, pretty wild stuff, man. So again, good topic. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Good conversation. So, uh, moving along classic recommendation, have a little fun. Yeah. Midnight run, uh, one of the best comedies of the 80s. It's actually Robert. Then it was first real comedy. It's him and Charles Broden. Then he was the bounty hunter. He asked to track down Charles Broden and meanwhile, these mobs is trying to chase him down. Might be on Netflix right now. I believe, but legit one of the funniest, like comedy, actual movies of the 80s. And again, it's then arrows first, like real for a comedy role. So give it a whirl. And uh, I hate to end on a tough note, but we had a bad, bad day in Boston yesterday that woke up to the news that uh, Boston firefighter Robert killed a BK as he was known was killed at a fire in Dorchester round. Oh, man. Uh, and it's, you know, like I've said before, like, you know, Keith, you know, your grandfather was, was a Jacob, you know, when you grew up without your family, it never goes away. So when this happens, it's just, it's just a, it's hot breaker for everybody, but particularly for the, for the, for those people who have, you know, firefighters in the family, whether the act of retired and I got a lot of great buddies on the job and not, you know, like we talked about a troop of trainer a couple weeks ago in these, you know, civil servants who just give their lives for us. But uh, you know, you just go to work one day. You don't know if you got to come home. So, you know, uh, we signed off, you know, deepest condolences and sympathies for the Boston fight apartment in the family and not, you know, we love your BK and I thank you for your sacrifice. And we were just at the, he had to drop us off of this house across the street. And like, obviously, the lady took us in. And I'll never forget like watching this huge fire. And they went and like, fought it and put it out. And, you know, you're, you're like six years old. This is what this guy is doing every, every Wednesday to go for calls and go for meetings for like, this is what, this is why his page is going off sometimes in the middle of the night. So pretty, pretty crazy stuff. And the fact that these people are doing it as like a regular job all the time, it fucking, you know, same, same thing goes for the people who had the ultimate sacrifices.
