What an incredible incredible couple days since we last recorded. I hope everyone had the chance to maybe tune in to our live stream Wednesday. Was that what no Tuesday night? What night was that G Tuesday? Tuesday. Tuesday night of the of the avalanche just taking control of this series over the wild. We'll get into that. But it was right after some of the funniest content I couldn't make up the content we got. And for anyone who's maybe a little behind, I'll just quickly rehash our business done with the Leafs. It was a it was a very I'd say enormous moment in the show years and years of just loving the Leafs hometown team and he quit. And he had his reasons. I don't know where that guy came from. He's a bar still guy. Yeah, and said, you were a bar still. He's on the whack pack. Yeah. He's prototypical bar still look. I mean, another aspect, just to add to more of the chicklets, uh, content stream is just g going on a rant about what he's going to do with the sixth overall pick. He's getting from Toronto. And boom, the Maple Leafs come on and know where they win the lottery. Gavin McKenna will be at Toronto Maple Leaf unless they're just, I think there'll be beyond dumb if they don't take. Well, I actually spoke to him and I told him, I gave him an ultimatum. I said, if you go to the Toronto Maple Leafs, we're no longer in the fishing business together. So it's not a guarantee. I think it's up in the air right now. I think he's taking a real strong look at the business opportunity with the right hook fishing dealer and how that could probably put a lot more money in his pocket than, uh, than, uh, MLSC and Rodgers can, especially on an entry level contract, which we know are not very good. They have no idea what they're talking about these people. Yeah. Zero. Yeah. And zero clue. What that guy did, Shane Dome, we're talking about what he did. And I don't even know if he wanted to play another year, whether he did or not, whether he wanted to be a part of the team, whether he wanted to play goal. If he wanted to play goalie, the next year, I would have let him. The guy was the only reason that the coyotes were even in there as long as they were in, in Phoenix. So just an absolute meathead, whoever just thinks you're doing it just for that reason, there's a lot more behind it. And like, yeah, I love the fact that you're as loyal as you are, you're as loyal as a dog, even though you get all of your dog stolen. It's things. I hate it, but, uh, it's one of those things, man, like you are a loyal dog. And I love you for it. I also got to just just shout out, like, you know, Scott Van Pelt Stanford Steve, they're talking about biz after the game that night. It's just the, the, the, forget also, the sharks getting a second overall pick. That's even more incredible because now they're just, okay, so they don't even have to make the decision if you are somebody, if you are somebody who says it's Stenberg or McKenna and it's somewhat of a battle. Oh, well, whoever they don't take, we got. And if it is Stenberg, it's like, wow, and now people have said they have to take a D. I kind of get that, but if you're talking about a generational type player, then I think you take best player available, you figure it out. I mean, unless one of the defensemen is considered a future number one Chris Pronger style defenseman, 25 minutes a night, PP, PK, you think about it, but it was just wild. How it all went down. It was why it was a movie. It was literally, it was like Ryan Seacrest went into the NHL office. He was like, Hey, just let me do two days. Let me get two days. I'll fucking put this hockey world on their head. Just give me two days. And he did it. NHL went over to Bravo for one day, got all the ratings up and then boom, now it's back to real hockey. Yeah, the bachelorette was like, you know, they did their thing and the NHL's, I hold my beer. But Ellie's saying here, the sharks are going to sign radish over the summer. Have you been told you got, he sent that last night in the group chat. I didn't want that one. No, it just, it makes too much sense. They have 40 million cap space next year, 82 mill the year after that. They still have to sign Will and Mac, but you go sign him, maybe a parent with Dickinson, that kid, they got 11th over all a few years ago, played in London. I think it's, it's the perfect trade transit number one. I think they only have two designed for. Did you see, did you see Radish's year end meeting to like the conference with the media? He's gone. It sounded like he's gone. Really? I mean, Demetri Orloff is the highest paid player on the San Jose sharks right now making 6.5 million. They have to spend money somewhere. They have. Well, they're going to be spending a ton of it. I think a report came out from Chris John. Was it John Stint saying, maybe Matthews, like isn't sure if he's going to go back? I don't really know. You kind of see all these different reports. So like, I think that they're, they're going to be in a solid spot, like getting that first overall pick changes everything. And also, if Matthews does decide he wants to leave, like, it wouldn't be the worst thing if they stripped it to the ground because the return on even him and Neilander alone, like, you know, you could build around Cowan, you can build around McKenna obviously. And then the return you could get, if you're sending those guys out the door, I imagine you're getting three to four first round picks. Hopefully they're high first round picks. And then probably like, like two to three roster players, including a few prospects. So you'd get a bolt load and return. And then the timeline would match up a little bit. But also you got Cowan on entry level. You got McKenna on entry level. So that's going to save you some money for some skill top six wingers. And then all of a sudden, you know, your cap situation's not horrendous with the fact that it's going up what eight and a half million. Because that was one thing that was announced. So for the Leafs going from where the cap's going to now getting the first overall pick, a lot has changed to the fact that I could see them making playoffs next year. The only thing they have going against them is the fact that the Atlantic is still going to be very difficult. And, you know, I mean, the East and General is going to be a gauntlet. So, uh, do do you agree that they could turn around and be a playoff team? They have solid goal tending. The one thing that you're hearing through the great vine is that Matthew's is like, we need a few puck moving demand. I can't keep playing the way that we played last year. It's nauseating. I need to have the puck on my stick. I lost Mariner. I can't even be given and goal, keeping goal. I can't even go through the neutral zone. So I feel like they could solve a lot of their problems with the fact that they have cap space available, a couple studs on entry level deals and or moving off some guys. I kind of love when we're chatting about teams and yeah, you need puck moving D or this team. They don't grow on trees. Well, that's, I was just going to say like GM is that's tough but like you could throw out what every team needs, like actually getting it done for sure. To me, it seems impossible. Like I have no GM ability in me. Like I'm looking around. I wouldn't even know where to start. That's probably why we're doing this just throwing out hot takes that never land. I just think like where, how do you go do it? And the leaves don't have a ton of assets, right? So I don't know. That's a problem. I did see their lineup. Somebody tweeted up their lineup next year. Are you more for kind of leave it the way it is? Have Matthews knee land or stay? Try to make playoffs next year or you want them to blow it up now. I don't, well, first of all, I don't give a shit. They, some of those people, they're just so stupid or never, never click with them. And also they've never been part of something where they have that much loyalty to an individual. They must not ever have had that in their life. So they wouldn't understand it to begin with. So why would I just, why would I constantly beat my head and trying to explain it to them, right? Hey, hey, I'm built for that. There's one guy who's built for that. It's me getting peppered in the brain, but, but I would be curious to know what other Leafs fans think about what the approach should be. I would, I wouldn't be shocked if half of them would be okay if with a great return from Matthews and Neelander and maybe starting fresh a little bit, I, you think I'm crazy with that? Yeah, I think they think because they got first overall picked that the cup is theirs next year. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. They had parades going outside the, well, yeah, but winning the, winning the lottery. I mean, that's a big deal. That's excitement. I don't think they got to be completely orange, which look, look, we're looking at a guy who's been to range for a long time and was a Leafs fan. So you understand, like they might think that, but no, no way, but, but, but they're not deranged in thinking that now that they had the first overall pick, it is completely revived their opportunity to potentially compete. The issue is going to be no first round pick the next two years after this because they're given away. They, they don't have a strong prospect pool. So how are you going to, unless you're going to do your damage and free agency as, as Whit pointed out, there's not a lot available and they're not a team that's playing with a ton of cap space to begin with. And also is Toronto a big landing spot for free agents compared to like the way that other teams are kind of on the rise and coming up. Like, like you talked about radish, like to me to, to go, not disappear, but go play in San Jose flying or the radar. I mean, it's the same, you're basically dealing with the same taxes you are in Toronto and you go get to play with that young group of guys who are, who are going to keep getting better and better year over year, including getting the second overall pick that we don't know. Could end up turning out, like, look at, look at Leo Carlson. Like, wasn't Leo Carlson second overall? Leo Carlson's incredible. It's so good. So, so you might be dealing with another one of him going over there in, in, in, in Stenberg. Is that how you pronounce his last name, Stenberg? No, uh, what was I, oh, also the confusion around the draft picks the next two years, just quickly. I read, now it is one of the most confusing setups I've ever seen. If the Leafs have a top 10 pick next year, they choose Philly or Boston. You imagine that they choose Philly, right? 100% and then if it's not top 10, it goes to Philly and the next year's goes to Boston. You know, I'll be getting 2028, uh, the league is going to come in and actually make them decide soon on this because the other teams need to trade these assets. They need to know moving forward. They can't just wait until, uh, Toronto wants to make this decision. So from what I was told, it's going to be Philadelphia 2027 in Boston, 2028. Okay. Yeah. That would make more sense because if you left it going as long as like up until the draft then the Philly would be like, Hey, take a beach call off of us and then, you know, like they could, they could sweeten the pot for some deals and stuff like that. So they definitely have to get that done as soon as possible. We speak in a Philly man, oh, they, they had that game key. They had it. We're going to get into it. We're going to have murals on them. It's like after that, just that win that, well, the, the, the emotion of game seven on the road, you had to think they'd be let down a little bit and Buffalo and Josh Stone and Zach Benson, they were ready to go. Yeah, you should know it as a player too. We remember in those game sevens and Wilkes Barry, but they would always warn us guys, it's going to be a huge let down that next game. And the sabers were ready for once they were ready that first period, they jumped all over them. But I thought maybe the rest of the game, Montreal might have, might have outplayed them a little bit. They, I know they outshot them, but Buffalo had the timely scoring and they got the power play going again. If they score on the power play, that's, that's an issue for anyone they're playing because they hadn't done anything against the Bruins. And I think leading into the playoffs, they'd really struggled in the regular season too. So if you can get it going. Now the first goal, that was Dones goal. I believe the beautiful pass by. Oh my god. Brutal luck for Hudson just kind of hit the boards. I lost where he was, falls down, Benson. I got to say, Dobbson coming back and played and played a great game seven. Probably the worst played two on one I've ever seen. It was kind of, it was like a Whitney slide. When he's hockey school, you got it. I think it was Matheson who just basically turned it right over. I got to go glass and out. But boys, I, you know, we see this a lot now. The first unit, they get the first minute and a half. And, you know, Buffalo's first unit hadn't really got much going. Second unit scored both power play goals for them yesterday. And they got some skilled players on there. They got Benson and donor who are willing to go to the net front. They just keep it simple. And then they, they're D, they're mobile and good enough to, to have a good second unit. And you saw it with Bo Byroom the way he's able to skate, walk the line and, and, and fire that pill. So a huge, huge, huge game. Benson, as, as big of a rat as he is, fuck man, he is a skilled good player. And when he's on the four check, he's always got to stick in the right lane. He's always disrupting like making it hard on D where they're second guests in their first option. It stalls that guy just long enough so you can get closed in on him and get pucks turned over. And even on that, that pass back door to donor, like him selling that shot, like, fuck, he looked like David Posernock selling that shot. He kicks the leg up like he's pissing on the fire hydrant. And then Dolvis drops that right leg. So he can't push off really anymore. And you mentioned the two on one played by dobson. My God, what a, what a start to the game for them. And then, and then, of course, getting that two old goal. And I mean, talk about donor one in one in the first period. Like he, he stripped Anderson the slot. I was one on three right there. And he slides it. He knows exactly where Benson is and Benson knows exactly where McLeod is back door. So a great start to the game. And I didn't think that they were going to be sleepy off the start. They were sleepy off the start. Their first three home games are the first round. And they couldn't come in sleep. And especially against a team or like you mentioned, like who came off an emotional game summit in Tampa. Yeah, I want to go back to that second unit power play put my little coaching hat on. Oh, explain to the people what happened out there. They're second unit. And this is what used to happen in the old days. You had your one first unit, one minute, and then the second minute. And as a penalty killer, you hate it if they had two different setups. If they had an umbrella on one side, if they had the box and one. So the second unit now use the box and one that you don't see anymore because this one three one is almost unbeatable on the power play because you always know where somebody's open. But that's what happened. Montreal penalty killers got caught stuck in. Oh, this is how we play one three one. All we do is play one three one. Oh, what the hell is this? The box and one work. Just even on the McLeod one because of their setup, you see dons in the middle. And he knows he can whack it either way. One of those guys are going to be open because the deconverge on him. And they got a lot of chances from that. And it was a huge adjustment by Seth Apert and the Buffalo Sabers. Merri, you don't think it was because it was a broken play like both of them were kind of broken plays. Yeah, but you're in those positions. If you're in those one three one position, they will all three guys wouldn't have been down near the posts like that. Well, but so on the second one, it was like a turnover broken play where the no ran out, right? Yeah, but I'm saying before that earlier in that power play just to get the momentum and get everybody scrambling around it was set up like that. You moved it up. I sent the one clip where the D walks in, but just has them all kind of unsure of what they should be doing, where one three one penalty killers like, Oh, I always do that. I always do that. But it has them confused. It's probably a better way to say. So you're saying one three one for the penalty killers. No, that's the power. No, I know, but he the way he's just said it. He said, yeah, the, but if you're a penalty killer, you know, like, okay, it's a one three one. I always push down the boards here and then he comes underneath me and I go out, you have to flankers. Would that front guy bumper guy in the middle and one guy up top? And Keith probably knows this as a powerplay guy. I remember we would do that on a power play. This is in Europe when I was actually a paid peak guy. And you would start in a box and one and get him thought like that. Then you would rotate when I'm broad. Did you do stuff like that, Keith? Inside a two minute power play, uh, what, like switching up? No, not really. It was kind of, I think the best power plays are having some structure and then just kind of, I mean, everybody on the ice is good enough to get open and make plays and know where to be. So I think you have to have a lot of freedom to within the power play to let guys have the freedom to move around. Yeah, you always want somebody in front of the net. You always wants the flank guy, but I think having like a set set, like actual, like where you're going to be is kind of obsolete a little bit now. Like they're kind of guys are free flown and and just going out there and using their hockey senses more than just kind of being in a spot. How would you play against the one three one? You're saying set up in a diamond. That's usually how they're doing it. Yeah. And then the diamond doesn't work on the box in one. You can see it that way. You know what that mean? Like, yeah, I see what you're saying. I mean, I would think that they'd be all over that though in the pre scout, but like you're saying, when it switches that quick, right? Like it is, it is difficult to just kind of wrap your mind around like, all right, this is a completely different set up, but Keith, right, at least in, you know, in the runs, the oil's head to the finals. They they would have somewhat of a set up and then it was just free will now great. That's Mick David and Leon, but even you watch Colorado, they're kind of all over the place. And we will get into Minnesota. God damn what a disaster. Their power plays, but Buffalo, I felt as though the game Buffalo did kind of a good job. You're saying maybe much, oh, played him a little bit, but it seemed like, it seemed like the arena was a little quiet, even in the paper. That might have had more scoring chances than shots on net. They had they had seven, I think they finished with 16 shots on that or 17. Yeah. Oh, yeah, because they hit the post on the one. They had, they had one more scoring chance than they they had shots on net. So the quality of on, yeah, the quality of opportunity. So they had 17 scoring chance on 16 shots and the quality of of opportunities they had. There was a lot of breakdowns for Montreal. Montreal still were in the double digits in grade A chances. I felt like a lot of theirs came in the third period as they drastically outshot him and Buffalo sat back a little bit, but man, Lion was pretty good, man. He wasn't given out sloppy rebounds. Like he made very timely saves and some, so a little bit of puck luck too. I think Lane Hudson early on went double donk off the post crossbar. But I also don't think it's time to panic. Like I was talking to our guy Woody last night. He was on the stranglers and he was like, you know, panicking almost about losing that game. One, but I think they can take some good things. They outhit them. They won the face off battle outshot them. So I think it's one of those things where Dolby's was so good. Maybe he took his foot off the gas a little bit and then he's going to have a nice reset game. One of the goals I didn't love from him, but it's like he's got you're not going to be good every single game. If you can split here in Buffalo, it's a win and try to get, you know, come back home one, one. I think it's a different, a different ballgame, though. I think that Buffalo does a way better job of getting guys in front of the net and they're better at elevating the puck. Which one didn't you like the greenway goal? Greenway. Yeah. Yeah. Because there's his glove, right? Yeah. Like somebody flying by like there was a drive by. So I don't know if sometimes when you get those cross bodies, it's hard to track the puck. But if you go to, I mean, two of the goals were east to west and then two of the other goals I view as screens like donor. He couldn't see shit. Right. So they got some, they got some big, linky forwards up front for Buffalo and Dolby's is what six, four, six, five. So if they keep getting traffic in front, now you guys were, we're in the chat. But it's like who cares, right? Big, big dub. Leo Carlson's a problem. I can't believe how good troub was playing. Maybe he played 65 on five minutes against McDavid with LeComb last series. And every shift he's out there, like he's so good at never looking at the puck. I mean, granted, he's looking to take your head off every single time. So it makes sense. He's not looking at the puck, but stands guys up at the blue line. Carlson looks great. All that they have depth, Seneca. I mean, that goal was sick, man, because it was kind of in his feet. And he's still able to raise it enough to get it over the glove of Carter hard. But I think Anaheim right now, they got to be feeling great about themselves. It is. I know you're you're on the train of Vegas and really something going special there, but they can't be happy after two games. No, but I so kind of like I go in the first round against Utah was very quiet the first few games. And also they got outplayed in the first few games of that series as well. And I think that was still one one, right? I think that the speed is hard, but they, I, you know, they're veterans. They find a way to adjust. And I think we can all agree that Anaheim has been the better team here. The one thing that Anaheim, if they want to win this series, though, they're going to have to figure out their power playboys. I believe all for nine right now, they had the five on three earlier in that game. The level three was it was. It was. five on three. It was similar to that one against Caroline, it was horrible. Yeah, it was horrific, but man, but yeah, like they just keep coming at you. And you talked about that goal from Senica, like it was paying and VL on that line with them. And keep in mind, Senica is used to playing top six minutes most of the year, right? He played 11 minutes last night, but yet was still effective, adapted to his role, playing, playing a limited role where you look at that forecheck. VL gets on there, pain in the ass as the F one, paling does a great job of following up along the wall. He just punched it right back down to VL and you talked about like Senica adjusting to that, to that pass and where it was. How about VL being so close to the net, knowing that Carter Hart's going to throw his stick and his blocker and he gets it over A was it a nice saucer pass? No, it was a Meg, a ragu meat sauce coming at him, but he still got it over that blocker and that stick and right in his wheelhouse in order for them to get it. So that VL man, he's made a huge impact physically. You saw that big hit. He threw on dry side and how big of a pain in the ass was in the first round and already in this series makes a huge play, which is essentially the game, winning goal, because I called in squirtle five seconds left and they'd already sealed the deal. So what a job by, by, I mean, paling was awesome in the first round with all the speed that he possesses. So they are getting contributions from everyone and, and yeah, Anaheim looks, well, looks great. What, what, what else did you guys see from, from Vegas that you weren't happy with? Well, with Vegas, I was going to talk some coaching more on the duck speed that you guys kind of didn't talk about with your favorite line got broken up. He took out McDowell. She took out Ian Moran. He puts in Johnston and Harkins and they made an impact and. Switching over to Vegas for the coaching, you cannot pull the goalie with McNabb on the ice. They're down two to nothing. McNabb is on the ice. That's not a guy you want on a six on five. And he knows it. He tries to change in the middle of it when we don't have possession gets turned over easy. Emptying at our lights out for the golden night. So I see coaching in the, in the, the ducks. They put out the regular lines and warm up. He pulls a switcheroo for the game. That line was super effective. I see a huge mistake by torts on the Vegas side coaching coaching coaching. You think, you think Colossar needs to come out and Smith needs to go back in? Yeah. For sure. Colossar. I love the guy. He's going to have his, he'll be back in at some point, but he's taken two bad penalties now in two games. Yeah. Really didn't get a lot of ice time. Let's get Smith in there a little more speed. And we'll find another spot for Colossar later in the series. I like how Anaheim didn't change their game much. Like in, I think that like Murrow was just saying about coaching. Like after game one, people were all over them and not shooting pox and making the extra pass and trying to make pretty plays, but that's kind of how they play. And I thought maybe they'd switch it up and play a little bit heavier, but I would imagine and having played for Q. He went in there and said, Hey, listen, we're going to play the way that we've played all year. What's got us to this position? Let's just continue to do that. And I thought they did a really good job of just playing the way that they played all year and throughout this playoffs. And then it gets them that win. And but going, going back to the, the icing and game one, like there's got to be some accountability for the ref that's in the at ESPN or at TNT, like whoever. He can't, he can't just agree with whatever the call was. Like he has to say what he really thinks. We all see the play couple extra replays. We understand the rafts on the ice don't get the extra replay. He's got to call it how it is. Am I not in my crazy? No, he's got a, he's got a union where Hank has a tough time being like, that's a horrible goal. Like they just, they, they stick together. I get that. But I just, I was watching that game and, and Quenville's reaction, the best part of Quenville's reaction. He was losing his god damn mind before the goal as the place still going on. He's already screaming, not even looking. And then it goes in and it's complete. Just an explosion. Now I'll give door a fee of credit. That was, he abs. Now Anheim was kind of like out to lunch, but he dangled somebody made a sick pass to barbershop. But I get Quenville being disgusted. I, he really calm down before the press conference, though. He didn't lose his mind. I thought he might just go. No, he got it out on the bench. He got it out at the wrong lines, man. It wasn't that guy's call. It's the guy on the other side. The reason why the, the, the miss call is so egregious is people are saying, Oh, Eichel stretched out his leg and it's almost like they were tied 50, 50 as they reached the hashmark while Ty goes to, to Lecombe. And the way the puck was dumped in cross corner, Lecombe has body position on him. That's like the puck is on his side of the ice, including where cues probably staring right at me. And like, there's no way in any world is, is Eichel getting to that puck before Lecombe, because of the way it was dumped and where it was dumped. So very egregious. And I agree with you. Like it's okay for, for Jackson to say, Hey, listen, it was a miss call. Like I much rather hear that. I think people are going to be more lenient if they hear your honest truth, rather than just trying to back up a bad call where it's like, well, no wonder fucking people hate reps because they fucking even when they're wrong, they refuse to admit it. Yeah. And then he popped off his fifth season for 78 points, then 96. Um, yeah, I mean, I, there might be more offensive talent with Carlson. I know that sounds insane and Keith, you might be someone who says bark. You could get a hundred points every year, uh, but Carlson is, is something else. And if I'm an I'm going home, I'm feeling very good about where I sit very, he's very fluid for a big guy. Like he doesn't look big because of how he moves in that sense. Like you're like, how does he move so efficiently yet? He's so big. There's been three or four plays he's made in this series alone where he's picking, picking it up in the middle of a pivot. I mean, the one play to the comb is the one everyone's talking about, but there's been a couple others where, and then he'll get a quick stick handle through guys triangle when it looks like he has no room and no time. So if they get game, if they get game three, so you're going to start, are you going to start wearing a little bit about your, your golden nights? Or are you still not my, they're not my golden nights. I just from, I just, I, I do believe in a veteran group and how they got to mojo going. But a man, credit to Anaheim. It's awesome to see a team take this next step like this and, and credit to Verbeak and staff, like with the mix of veterans, like they are way ahead of schedule, way, way ahead of schedule. What was the last thing I was going to mention there? I'm happy for Vial too, because that fourth line against Edmonton, right, is so dominant. Oh, yeah. Then he decides to make the, the change with Moore and McTavish out. And that is an example of like a player like you want more ice time, like go out and, go out and earn it. And then he's on the third line with payling and Seneca. And it's like, that's just, I, I just love seeing that, right? Like, hey, you want more ice time, you can't sit there and say, I, I want to play more like go out and do it. And he gets moved up a line with the lineup changes. But back to the hockey stuff like the draft lottery, I actually quickly talked to the CD's after it because obviously Vancouver they thought they were going to get the first pick and that didn't happen. I said it's kind of a blessing in the skies in my opinion because this draft is not like a celebrini were celebrini's clear cut number one and it's a big drop off you know the Russian below him and then some other guys and then even the bedard, although I heard you talking about Leo Carlson arguably he could be better than bedard but going into that draft it was clear cut bedard number one. There's no clear cut guy this year and it really is based on your needs. So I think you almost dodge a bullet where you don't get the pressure and the scrutiny of picking first overall and making sure you pick the right guy that's a slam dunk and at number three, you could possibly get the guy that you wanted at number one anyways depending on what the leaves to like you would just think the safe pick is McKenna right. If you don't want any backlash, you got a winger who can play with Matthews that's the safe pick and then when you go to San Jose if they don't trade down or anything like that like they need a defenseman like they have great forwards great young forwards and they got Sam Dickinson but after that they need some young defense or they need a right hand shot. Well there's two great right hand shot defense within the top five. So if you're a Vancouver, you're probably going to get your your Stenberg or your Caleb Maholcera or your Chase Rhee like whoever they value number one. So it's kind of like it was a blessing in the skies and then but for the leaves, the Leafs needed that for their organization. I know you don't want to hear it. I'm fine with that. They need something good to happen right and and Matt's coming in. I play with Matt's. So you say who am I loyal to like I'm a big Matt's undying fan. He was unbelievable to me. He came in and we all knew he was going to be in the Hall of Fame. He played half a season with us. He got absolutely piled drive by the media and the coaching staff when we were there. Like he came in at Christmas and he was behind. You know, he wasn't really playing. He was training a little bit back in Sweden and he worked his butt off. He was doing like lunges before practice. He would work his butt off. And then at the end of his gate like some of the first games that he played, he'd take like kind of a bad penalty at the end like a stick penalty. And the next day in video, Vinho would show it on video and be like, Brutal penalty son and you call him son. Brutal penalty son. And we're all looking around like they're not that anybody should be exempt from that treatment. But there's some guys that are kind of above being embarrassed in a meeting called son. Oh yeah. Everybody's son. Yeah. We thought that Matt's was. I thought Matt's was above that. So what do you think his reaction would be guys like what would your reaction be if you were a Hall of Famer and somebody was talking down you you would probably feel confident enough to fire back. This guy just took it best he made ever never complained. So I got a lot of time for Matt's a lot of time. When you guys went back to Toronto, didn't you get the shootout winner? Yeah. We were talking about that yesterday and he came out. They came by to say hi in the studio. And I said to you because we're talking about like the memories you miss with the boys when you're done playing. And I go, remember that's the night after Matt's because he took us all out to music. And we walked into the bar afterwards full sushi spread and everything Matt took care of the whole night. So on the ice and off the ice, that was a super memorable night. It was so cool to see him honored there. And you know, you can tell he was emotional everything. And like I grew up in Toronto like you and I grew up watching him and the Leafs. Colorado looks heads and shoulders better than Minnesota. They have 14 goals in two games. McKinnon has three points in his last three games. Each game. He's got three points. Not only that, he runs over Baldy. He runs over Quinn Hughes. He's just completely dominant. And juice, I'll go to you. Is there any chance many can get back in this series? And he comes up to me and practice the one day and he goes, Hey, you choose me on a flight. And they go, What? And he goes, Yeah, yeah. So like, I'm like, Okay. So we dropped the gloves and it was nice because there's no cameras or no nothing there. And and he's 19. And I'm just kind of like first thing you teach a guy is how to protect himself. But I just kind of grab him by the shoulders. He grabs me. And like I thought I was pretty strong. And he's just a 19 year old kid. And he's just starts whipping me around a little bit. And I'm like, Okay, like this guy's going to be fine, right? He's just another thing to add to his repertoire. And I think my David is really strong on his feet. McKinnon's a different level of strength and power though. So he's a really hard guy to shut down. You can't bully him. You know, like, bully, I think's a big strong dude on his feet. And that was a huge, huge hit. So when he's determined, I think Nate Dogg, there's very few people that can slow him down. It's when he gets kind of, you know, a little frustrated and maybe poopy pants sometimes. That's when you got him. But he's not like that right now. So let's scary. Yeah. Another guy on that team that I think's been unreal is Marty nature's like just his speed. He almost looks like McKinnon out there sometimes the way him and they get up and down the ice. I think looking back like now making that trade for Brandon and bringing it in natious like there's no way they're regretting that. natious is so sexy the way he skates. Yeah. Because he's a, he's probably like six three and when he starts crossing over, he's got like that little hop to his step and then Jersey starts fluttering and he just has really good style. Like my son, you guys have met my son. He's always been a Carolina hurricane's fan. So natious has always been one of his favorite players with all. Yeah. He's like, he said that he watched ajo and terrifying and world juniors. And that's when he first started like him. So he's been a day one since I play like I was still in the league and he was cheering for Carolina while I was still playing. He's like, dad, will you get me a martinook stick? Well, he's got, he's got one. It's funny. Like the first all-star game I worked I brought him with me and ajo was there and they were doing the media scrum before. And he's, my son's a really shy kid, especially when he was younger and he was probably like 12 and I go over and I introduce him to ajo and ajo was probably like 1920 and he's a shy kid too. And they both just basically stared at each other and nobody talked. And I'm like, I'm like, cool. I'll tell him what you said. Sebastian, tell it like it was like mediating a conversation between two like mute kids. Um, what do you make of of what Stan Colvin Hall and Jackson Blake are doing and more like more importantly like Stan, like I was kind of surprised that they, they, like they, they were okay going in with him as a second lion center. It's not like he was a world burnner as far as offensive output this season too. I think he finished the regular season like 40, 45 points. Like did you think that was a risk going in or you shocked what he's showing us so far in the first six game to playoffs? I feel like a really bad analyst because I told everyone before that I talked to about Carolina. I just don't trust a team that has their top five offensive guys under five foot 10. I just, I just don't get it. Jarvis, Aho, Stan Colvin, Jackson Blake and Ealers. And they're making me look pretty, pretty silly. But all of us, all of us, but I knew, I knew like from watching my world juniors, a new Stan Colvin was like a little bit of a pit bull. And, but I mean, he, like what a player. Every shift he throws ahead, he steals the puck. He makes a sick play. He skates it. He's kind of fearless out there. And I think the one good thing about Carolina is we all know how they're such a great team, right? Like there's, you can't really fool us. I think we know they're a great team. And that line is kind of taken over the Aho, it's fetching the call of Jarvis line in the playoffs and they're playing better. They're producing more. And you're seeing the the Trans. where they start more power plays they're starting more games and they're kind of getting played more like a first line And I don't see any pout from the Jarvis line like their Jarvis is just going out and getting run over and taking hits to make plays and Blocking shots and doing whatever he can to win. So that's a sign of a good playoff team when one line's going You ride the hot hand and there's no hard feelings from everybody else below them or above them I was just gonna say sandheim and Ristalline and have been on them most the games that I've seen and you'll see tonight At home who will be their number one line because if sandheim and Ristall are on that the stank overnight Then that's their number one line that they're afraid of so yeah, it's interesting question you and with defense men three defense men Who was your toughest like a matchup? Like I hated playing the little guys the little fast guys that you go near them and they tight turn away from you like I loved like I didn't love it But I didn't mind playing Joel Thornton and Ryan Clow and Marlowe like I didn't mind that line more So then like a line with all these little Speasters like those guys are not easy to play against no There's two of them on one line. That's my thing with Minnesota and call like you're I don't know if you're gonna see a team beat these guys four out of five But Philly at least with that effort going home has a chance here. I think that create offense, you know, historically against Carolina But I don't know I think that Philly they had a great start to game to but I really thought they needed to win that game Just just for their confidence to think they could be in the series So they got a tall task man like it might be hate to say I hate to do it to talk But like it might be a sweet like this could be a sweep series or in Carolina sitting around Just licking their chops waiting for Montreal and Buffalo to be each other up Have you ever been on a team where like it basically since like all-star break you have to go on a crazy run to even get in And if so like how much energy does that take away from you because I feel like they've been playing playoff hockey now for like Two months already, right? It's not like they got a little bit of rest going into playoffs It's like every game was a must win situation for them to even get in I think it was 3.8% was the chance they had after a Olympic break So juice have you ever like had to do that and like do you hit that wall? Yeah, I have I've been so 2010-11 we won the president's trophy in Vancouver We ended up making a whole run to the finals game seven all that stuff the next season With about a month left. We were it was so tight. There's so much parity in the West that we were kind of on the verge of not making the playoffs But our division was all still really close So we had to grind to make the playoffs and we ended up winning the president's trophy again And everyone said we were the worst team to ever win the president's trophy like that's it already Well, I don't know like well here yeah, here's here's the evidence So then we were the number one seed playing the Kings in the first round and they beat us pretty pretty easily So we were just like not a little bit from the year before but just playing all these meaningful games and not so much physically because you can recover It's like the mental like where every mistake is such a big deal like when you play 20 games of that then you start the playoffs Like as soon as the playoffs start you're almost like oh I can exhale now, you know like every mistake is not like We had four wins to play with your four losses. I should say to play with here like I don't have to be that mentally on and the next thing You know you're down two three one in the series That's a real thing and your fan base is like kind of just happy you made playoffs like it's just like you're playing with houses money Everybody's in a good mood and you've broken a what five six-year streak of not making the dance. So Somebody mentioned biz on the stream I think about Carolina and the way they play and how much energy it takes If they can get a sweep or in five like that makes such a difference to them because like there The man on man thing like it is definitely harder in your own zone are they in their own zone that much not really The slave and slave and it continues like you watch games man and that guy is so fast and he makes it He'll make a stick check in his own zone and all of a sudden He skates it to the red line and he'll you know dump it in change or make a pass And it's just like this guy is so much better than I think people give him credit for and even in the past few years People have really started understanding, but if you're a flyer spanner doesn't see Carolina a lot you're like This guy's easy Impossible to get around the wit there's a there's a there's an analytic statistic to support what you're saying It's called like disruption stats and Caroline and slave and are off the charts like disruption and and 50 50 battles wanted like killing plays They're so good at that and so their man-on-man and Montreal is also kind of a man-on-man tons of energy So what are both those teams having common they play everybody everybody plays on their team like pretty even across the board Like I'm talking about Carolina and Montreal like much of these a little bit skewed that third pair is a little bit below But in Carolina everybody plays like they rule the lines you have to that's what I was just gonna bring up So the least amount of ice as far as forwards in in game two was Jan Kowski and he played 13 minutes Wow, you look that yeah dude that I was just that's really literally why I brought this up Because you talk about how they do get tired or they could get tired because of how hard they play They do such a good job of having no passengers and just and distributing ice That not only are they going to get there rest, but they keep everybody fresh because they roll four lines And that's how they're able to keep that pace up throughout the course of a game Now I also thought that this was crazy. Who do you think led their team in ice time on D last day? Bez you needed to fill play 13 minutes buddy. I played 11 against the Edmonton Euler I had to I had to take the next practice off ask Gantz I was in a body cast in the room the next the ends played 11 minutes in the first period He was literally the next days like You guys do this getting IVs have the norm attack boots on Yeah, it was your option right took you off. Oh, yeah, first time ever first time I was a Kandria Miller No, but you was second walker Sean Walker No, it was chat field played 29 fields seven times. Oh, I was asking those I was asking juice, but sorry Do you think it's because their first line isn't going that well that they just spread the love throughout like if they were Humming and going out at a good clip getting chances all the time that they'd be getting a little bit more Ice time, but now that they're not they just kind of spread it throughout everyone. I think as a coach I think if they were to your point if they were going like really going you'd start with them You go line one line two one three line four and then the next time you go line one line two Lay three back to one. So you'd maybe get them every three lines once in a while And maybe it's slowed out the fourth, but if they're not going and your four lines going Then I think you just you just continue to roll them and then you know obviously special teams resets everything So who's apparently killing whose power play that that resets things But this playoffs what a lot of teams are doing like Anaheim did this the whole first round as soon as they and who did the last night Montreal has been doing it as well. After every power play they come out with the full fourth line because you know how I like on a power play of two units. So essentially you have eight forwards that are on two units with two D. So that's like like one guy from one line, one guy. So the fourth line usually nobody plays on the power play. So a lot of these teams because they trust their fourth line so much, they're coming out of a power play with a full fourth line. And all those guys are fresh and now it kind of resets everyone and they can get their lines back together quickly. Like I don't remember teams doing that when I when we were playing it. Well, I guess when I was playing a little bit older than you, but that's kind of a cool thing. But you got to trust your fourth line to do that. And if you don't score, you can go out and get an energy shift kind of get the life back into your group. So and to answer your question, each of their like Carrier, Jan Kowski and Robinson, they, they average 11 minutes of oyster in the regular season. So they're rolling like they were. There's not a lot of change in the most in the league for a fourth line. I would say that they're up there. Now I don't know that that's regular season. I'd be curious about a lines with the way that playoffs have gone. There's no way Carrier is a fourth liner the whole the whole year though. He must go up to the third at times. I've seen him because he's kind of one of those guys where that he can move up and down. Jan Kowski's averaging 12 so far. This playoffs is of ice time. Robinson's kind of for sure, fourth liner. Would you get a lot of chances, man? Oh, he's he's fast as shit, too. He he's averaging 10 minutes. These playoffs and that's probably exactly why. Like you go to Carolina, you're not going to have 100 point seasons. If you're a guy, like you got to you got to be bought in to play there to be like, hey, listen, like you a really good season is 80 points. If you're a high end, like a ho. But like they really get their guys to buy in and to not bitch about it. Like you said, only playing 15 minutes instead of the big dogs on other teams when they're playing 21. Yeah, but how good is that for team culture when after they get everyone? You know what it's like when the top guys played 23 and then there's a guy that played six or seven. And they grabbed the event summary after and they're kind of just like bitching under the bell. Oh, I barely played it tonight. Like and they like, I don't care. Like I didn't I didn't have any. Get on the bike. Yeah. And you're just miserable. Like it's so good when everybody feels like they have like an impact in the outcome of the game. I think that's one thing not to make it about Edmonton where fans are like, they're kind of asked to be more evened out ice time. Caroline is like proof of of what that can do. But going back to this, I want to ask you this juice. Minnesota kind of started it with that as a defenseman Alexander Dagle. The Dagle was on with game notes yesterday and he's really guys that when he was just playing too much. I see what he's saying. I also see that he that's just what he's so used to. But at this point, like with how physical Colorado's been, do you think you try to lower his minutes or you really can't with Brodino? That's who that was. I saw the clip online. I didn't know who it was. Yeah. I don't know that that's tricky. It's the same conversation with McDavid and Dry settle. Like they played too much. But like I'd rather take McDavid and dry saw a 50% than anyone on the bottom six. So I don't know like Quinn Hughes. Like I watch Quinn Hughes as he gets tired at the end of his shift. Yeah, like sometimes he'll he doesn't have the juice to get it get away from a guy because he's so good at escaping four checkers. And when a guy comes to him and he doesn't have a passing land, he can quick turn, quick turn, quick turn, see a later bud. And he loses that ability as the shifts go on. But I've watched the series and I don't think I don't think that heard him. And I watched him a lot in the Olympics because I thought what's the difference with this US team from four nations of the Olympics? It was only Quinn Hughes. And everybody thought that the US team had the best D core at four nations and the best D core at the Olympics. So now all of a sudden you insert this guy to the best D core, but he plays monster minutes. Like how is that going to affect all the other guys around him when he's out there so much? And I didn't really think his extra shifts and his long shifts heard him. He always has like a little bit of gas left in the tank. So I don't know, like you're down to nothing right now going home. Like you you play that guy as much as he wants to play. But as a coach, I always like watch guys where they come off. They're breathing in the recovery. If he just had a hard shift where he's gas and he's skating around. He's got the pocket. He takes a couple big hits. That's the time you give him a break. So like you're you're almost watching his body and his recovery throughout the game. Rather than the line matchups or who's up next and you just get him out and put him in a good situation. You think he's gasped? Give him an extra shift. Even if he's like, I'm good. I'm good. I'd be like no, bro. I can see your chest beating 1,000 miles an hour. You just took a huge hit by, you know, somebody your memories line underneath the pile for five minutes. Like no, you're going to you're going to sit one and get recovered. I wish we had a high end forward on here. No offense biz, but like to ask him this question because I remember having a conversation with Dan Cleary and we were talking about Lidstrom and he would just say like he was like Nick would have the puck on his stick for half a second and just pass it right up to the forwards, get it in the hands of the forwards. There's still some pressure to be competitive every night. You know, you're probably goes over for you're getting boot off the ice at home. So it's so hard to be patient and develop your draft picks in a Canadian market. So, uh, at some point, yeah, somebody has to make a stand and there has to be alignment that this is what we're going to do. We're going to draft well and we're going to develop all of our draft picks. And, uh, it's basically all I can say there is. There's such a panic now. I feel as a GM, like, you got to know your scouts are good at what they do. Because look at the UFA is every year, every year, there's less and less. And if you don't draft well, now you have zero chance. That's, that's everything. Um, back quickly to the series, little Vancouver talk there. Sorry. So even strength, they're actually pretty even. Well, last game, Ryanstrom's been in for a couple days, doing some analyst work. Yeah, he's been awesome, right? Been really good. And so he was kind of pointing out the last minigame, like the down low plays and he's like, okay, this is a set playoff that face off when you get possession, they're running through this play first. It's the most obvious play that everybody's seen, every penalty kill is seen. You pre you pre scout this team before the playoffs. You should know, okay, McKinning gets the puck. He goes, or sorry, nature gets the puck. He goes down one of McKinning the goal line. He's trying to hit Lange Scott bumper or back door like, how do you not know what your responsibility is if that gets there? So for me, it's a low bit of coaching. So the first one goes down to McKinning, middle 10 goes and slides across. And the other guy is late. Like they're almost like the other defense like, should I take the bumper or should I take the net front guy? Like, how do you not know what that read is? That read should be set in stone before the series even starts. So it's a little bit of execution for for me for Minnesota. But a big part of it also is Eric Sinek. You know, when you have a guy who's so frigging good and starts every penalty kill and double shifts, it's a big hole, man. That's a really big hole for a team to fill. What does Brodeen play as far as penalty kill during the regular season? Yeah. Another guy there. He's a pay is 59% in the playoffs and the power play is 13%. Like it's, it's got to be better if you want to. And I would say I would argue that a defenseman is more important on the penalty killed in a forward. Like the way that defenseman plays that down low, like when nature has the pocket, he moves up high. That defenseman, I hate when I see a defenseman, when he, you know how he like, Yanns, like you kind of say, like the dot is my reference. Like you'll extend to the dot but not beyond. But I hate when I see a defenseman go to the dot and then a stick is going middle, goal, I middle, goal, I, you have one responsibility that not to. So whatever your team system is, you should know and have that you're sticking that lane. Most of the time your stick should be on the tours, the goal line guy and making sure if that puck gets to him, you push him deeper into the corner. So he's not closer to your net to make a two on one at the net. And I hate when I see defenseman, like, oh, my sticks here by sticks there. Why are you doing that? It should be a windshield wiper. But Massachusetts, they, you know, they hire policemen to, you know, for public safety, if whether they don't utility work, uh, stuff on the road, uh, and he just finished his detail on his way home with two in the morning and the call come over the radio that, uh, there was a wrong way driver, um, on route, like route one north, but someone was coming down the Southland. This is a road I don't have a million times and, you know, he, he was done work. He, you know, he wasn't, uh, necessary obligated to go. He could have went home, but he responded to the scene and, uh, idiot driving the cars, smashed it over and, and, and, and, and killed and both of them died. Um, it's just a awful, awful tragedy and out, you know, like as a mass, a mass hole like, you know, who's driven that road. It's like to think, you know, this guy, like, you know, showed up when he didn't have to and fucking sacrifices life for like whoever was on that road, man, it's just, it's just so sad. Tron the other night tweeted, wow, this playoff hockey is incredible. I'm into it now. Like, I think I, I don't know, I responded to him. I got the look. I am on the trap draw. Next week we're recording. It's a basically a podcast about anything and everything. They monitor situations. They look around the world at all different stories to talk about. They want to learn about the NHL and the Stanley Cup playoff. So I'll be making appearance on that. Oh, wow, assuming that'll be out next week as well. Very excited on that. Are they good golfers? Yeah, they're all good golfers. Yeah, they, they don't really get involved in like they have their own YouTube golf stuff, but they never really, they don't really mix or do stuff with like, you know, the YouTube golf crowd that you saw on the internet invitation. Would they be a good sandbagger opponent? Like do they crank the booze or they kind of more a little straight narrow like. I think they're pretty purest in terms of golf and not being, you know, either on gummies or shrooms in your case, or, you know, 14 pink Whitney. And I mean, Keith's case, but I'll bring it up.
