Martha, C1 material. It's from a book, a new book, a pack, maybe. We call it a pack. Why? Because it's two books. Prepare your C1. And this week, we are looking at the speaking section of the C1 exams. All right, now there's lots of different parts of the speaking exams. But most of these exams have one section in common, and that is this introduction. Get to know you section. Some exams call it task one. All right. Yesterday, we looked at the introduction part. Today, we're going to be looking at different get to know you questions that you might come across that you might encounter on a C1 exam. Now, Martha, there are lots of different sections that might come up. All right. You might remember some of these. But today, we're just going to talk about one daily life. All right. So when an examiner is getting to know you, they might choose questions that revolve around daily life. All right. Now, you've taken these exams. Yeah. You have sat these exams. All right. Yeah. Do you remember any typical questions that an examiner might ask you about your daily life in task one? Yeah. This is very, very common. I would say one of the typical questions was like something like what part of the day do you enjoy the most, for example? What part of the day? Yeah. Now, here's the thing, guys. When you are answering a C1 exam, okay, when you're doing the speaking part, you need to make sure that you're using vocabulary that's above and beyond what is in the question. Can you just say that question again? Of course. What part of the day do you enjoy the most? Almost. Yeah. Now, what if I just responded with, oh, I enjoy the morning part of the day the most? Nanana. It's too simple. It's too simple, right? It's too simple. So we need to go above and beyond here. How about if I said, well, without a doubt, I'm a morning person. Good. Yeah. You see how that's a little bit more C1? You know, I'm using a structure that isn't contained in the question. How about I say something like, well, to tell you the truth? Perfect. Perfect. You nailed it. You got it. Now, would you say that without a doubt, you are a morning person? Yeah. I'm a morning person. Me too. Except for the weekends. No, I'm always a morning person. You're always a morning person. All right. Now, let's try something else. All right. So we're talking about daily life and questions examiners might ask you when they are getting to know you. They're breaking the ice, rumpiendo el hielo. Yeah. You say that in Spanish? Yeah, rumpere el hielo. Rompere el hielo. Give me an example of another question that you remember from back in the day. All right. Let me think. For example, something like, how important is technology in your day-to-day life? Oh, yeah, yeah. Now, this is a decent one. All right. How important is technology? You know, and again, if I'm answering this question, I want to use structures and vocabulary that are not contained in the question because it's very easy for me to say, well, technology is very important in my day-to-day life. Yeah, you're just repeating. It's not challenging. It's not really, and you're not going to get maximum points for that type of interaction. All right. How could I get maximum points? Well, here we go. Let's make this more C1. What about if I say to you, well, technology is essential in my day-to-day life? Right. Or how about this? Well, actually, I would say technology is vital in my day-to-day life. Yeah. So, what am I doing here? What I'm doing is I'm taking the question. The examiner uses the word "important," but I change important for essential or vital. Right. And you know what I get for that? Points. Exactly. Give me another example. I like that. Give me another example of questions. Well, of the top of my head, something like, how do you relax after a busy day, for example? All right. Yeah, this is definitely day-to-day, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. How do you relax after a busy day? And again, at C1 level, I don't want to just say, "Well, I relax by watching TV." The tutu, what's the word? "samey." "Predictable." Yeah. It's just me regurgitating, parroting what the examiner is saying. So, how about we take it up a notch? Yeah. Let's make it more C1. What if I say to you, "Well, Marta, I try to recharge my batteries." Bye. Yeah. Okay. So, recharge my batteries is like, "Relax." So, basically, correct me if I'm wrong. What you're doing is you're listening to a question and you're refraising it in a more advanced or sophisticated way to show off a little bit. You know what? We got to show off. Yeah. If you're taking a C1 exam, that's what you're doing. People, you're showing off just a little bit. Yeah. So, by the way, let me, let me be genuine. Let me ask you that question. How do you relax after a busy day, Marta? Okay. Well, Mickey, I try to chill out. Oh, hang on a minute. Chill out. Chill out. What is chill out? To relax. Chill out means to relax. So, is it the same as to recharge your batteries? Exactly. Kind of. Yeah. Awesome. So, I like to chill out or to chill by just having a nice shower, once the kids are asleep and lying down on the sofa and watching a good series. Ooh, a good series. You know what? You know this, there's this term, Netflix and chill. Yeah, now I've heard some, well, I've heard some people referring to that meaning other activities. Ah, well, okay, well, not in this case. No, no, no, this is actually like Netflix and chill. Yeah. No alternative meaning. No, like chilling out. Yeah, as it is. Relaxing, recharging the batteries. All right. So, you know, listen, guys, the key to successfully completing this task in the speaking exam is to understand the question and respond by giving the examiner some vocabulary, some expressions, some structures that are not necessarily contained in the question. You know what I, what I've always said, that in these exams you have to be clever. Clever as in, not that you're silly, but you have to be clever and show them all you know. Absolutely. In very little time. Yeah. And you've basically got, you know, 30 seconds to show how clever you are. You see? Yeah. Wow. Just like you did. Just there. Very clever.
