Hello everyone, welcome to Snott Clock Violation, the original. Okay, special episode, episode one, little pre-season action, we are going to have some takes, some thoughts on Mr. Wenbenyama, player of the week for the pre-season, player's to watch for the upcoming week, special segment, holy shit, it's the off-season baby, about top three teams moving up, top three teams moving down, alright, and then just some thoughts and standings predictions. So my name is Jake, my buddy is Ozzy, we live very far away, we didn't know as though. So I'll start with myself, I'm a student at the University of North Texas but we're both from South Carolina, and I'm studying broadcast journalism, so this podcast is kind of a nice little kick start, and yeah, that's about it, how about you Ozzy? Hello, my name is Ozzy, I live in Greenville, South Carolina still, I'm doing this as a, you know, I'm doing it with my friend, close good friend, also I'm a Celtic fan, so it'll be, it'll be real bias, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's the thing, he's a Celtic fan, success, like forever, I'm a horned fan, maybe the least amount of success, historically of any, like any sports franchise, potentially worst franchise of all time, like, yeah, yeah, they're up there, they're up there with like the kings and, the kings have had some great success, the kings have been to the top of the finals, and the a's have like also done that, and they did moneyball, I think it's, yeah, they did money, yeah, Brad Pitt, yeah, I think it's just the hornets, yeah, so the hornets are on a tier of their own, yeah, so we're going to have some very, maybe the, maybe we'll throw in the browns, but I think that, yeah, yeah, we'll throw in the browns, all right, are we ready? So basically, how it's going to work is we're going to have daily game predictions for the biggest game each day, so each, each day of the week, so our first one is going to be October 18th, we chose the Sixers at Celtics, I've got Philadelphia coming out with a win, I think that the coaching turnover and kind of the one with that in Boston is not going to play out very well in the first game, and I think Hardin and Embi are really going to figure it out this season, I could see him going to finals actually. So what I think is that you're a fucking num-school, that the Celtics are going to win that game because we were number one ranked in the preseason for offensive efficiency and stuff like that, and our defense got better, I truly think this is a better team, it's just whether or not Joe Mizzoula knows how to coach, and I think he maybe does, so we'll see how that all plays out, but I think it'll be a great game. It'll be on TBS, or C&T, is he all right? Yes, I believe so. Crime time's late. Oh yeah. Tuesday night, so yeah. Super, super stoked for. Yeah, that is a great way to start seeing them. Yep. All right, so coming up the next day, the 19th, we chose the Mavs, the team closest to me right now, and the Suns at Phoenix, Stoom Phoenix is going to be favored, but we both chose the Mavs to win. Yes. So is that just kind of like, in response to what the hell happened in game seven last year? Yeah, it's also a thing of, I just think the Suns are like, are a mess, like the, the Aden thing this off season was so confusing, and I don't think that team is going to have a very fun time this year. Yeah. And also, Luka just, Luka just like runs through that Suns defense. It's ridiculous. Yeah. He's like the only one who's like able to just torch that defense, like he can't it's ridiculous. He really cookie cuts it and it's crazy, cookie cuts it. So okay, so what do we think about the possibility of Deandre Aden being moved at the trade deadline? If, if things go like we think they're going to go in Phoenix, I think it, like I think, I think that's something that is either going to happen this off season or, or this trade deadline or next off season, I was really surprised. He's still a Sun, like that's ridiculous. Yeah. So he resigned on just one year, right? I believe so. Let me double check. Yeah. But I believe, yeah, I believe they just picked up his, like, exception, I'm pretty sure. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. No. For the four years, they give him a max, four year, 133 million. Oh. Okay. I think I actually produced them be second in the West later in the show. I agree. Yeah. It's one of those teams where they're just, like, last year they just had so many blowouts against, like, really good teams. I think this is going to be one of them. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think they're just going to torch them by like 35 for this game. For some. Yeah. For some, like, just out of nowhere. Just like games. We have always said that about the Mads. Mads for years. Mads for years. Yeah. Yeah. Like solid teams every year. It's ridiculous. Yeah. It makes no sense. Yeah. All right. So. Uh, the next day is 20th. We've got the Clippers. At the lake. Both in a crypto com arena. So we different. Yeah. Yeah. Should be stable center. So I chose the Lakers because because just because. So I clippers are. Did you just have to be setting my tone that I actually think the Lakers are going to be a better team this season? Uh, I think the last season was kind of just. Hold on to shit going on and they never figured it out. I think this season they could actually win like 50 games. Interesting. Uh, I don't know if this will be one of them. Um, I think this kind of a toss up. And I'm just giving the edge to LeBron. Um, and I think the fact that's opening night. I think LeBron. I think LeBron maybe historically is good on opening night. I have no context behind. That sounds right. Yeah. I think he is historically good on opening night. Yeah. I, I feel you there with. Yeah. I almost took the Lakers, but I for like the exact different reason. It is because it's going to be like Paul Georges and Coilinert's first game back in the long ass time. I feel like like playing together. Yeah. But also they were really damn good when they played together. So like. Yeah. Like if the, if Coilin comes back and is like anything like he was like a year or two ago, he's going to be, it's going to be ridiculous. So. That Clippers team could be scary. That Clippers team might win the finals. They could have however. Opening night might be tough. Whatcha? They also were the Clippers. They also are the Clippers. Right. They are. I think they like lost. They lost a few key pieces, but then added pretty much them. - Yeah. - Yeah, I mean, they resigned. I don't think anyone big. - They just have a bunch of really good goal players. Like their bench is so deep. - They're great at finding like. Like, oh gee, I don't know. We've passed Galsiac on a quarter, Gary Trent. They just, like Chris Boucher, they always find guys that are just like unskilled but can kind of just do 3&D really super well. - Yeah, they're a cool team. That's why we didn't select some of the better games for this day. We're trying our best not to reuse teams. I think if it's absolutely necessary, we'll do it. But like, you know, this isn't that better. - Right. - So, after preseason, I'm not too confident about this pick anymore. - Because, so, I picked the hornets, however, it is clear the hornets have the worst preseason out of any team in the entire NBA. - Yes. - You changed the pick. - I'm not sure if it is. - So, yeah, I mean, I think we could have lost to the Adelaide 36s. - Oh, you would have got, you not only would have lost to it, like, I'll destroy it. - You really got the doors blown off. - Like, okay, I was writing this, like, I was doing this pick in particular, like, as I was watching the, like, one of the first preseason games, it was Celtic's hornets. And the first quarter, the hornets looked really good. They truly did, like, like, Lamello was like, he wasn't shooting very well, but he wasn't turning it over, like, he was like playing smart basketball. And I was like, man, Lamello looks a lot better. And then, like, I made the pick and then, like, put my laptop away and just watch the game. And the hornets lost by, like, 43. - And, like, that kept happening, like, every preseason game. So, I'm going hawkswint with this game, with this game. - Yeah, I just-- - I don't blame you. - I just don't, yeah. - I don't know what's going on in Charlotte. - I don't know, either, it hurts me so much. Like, I love, I, I'm in a huge minority. Every signing, I think he's great. - I truly just still hate it. I truly-- - Yeah, I know, most people do. When you've been a hornet stand for this long, we just need some sort of, like, just, like, stability. - Yeah. - It's just, yeah. - But I'm still going to take the hornets because I think we can win. Actually, the last game of the preseason, we lost the six or is by, like, five. - Right. - All the other ones were by, like, 30. - Yeah. - Yeah, it was rough. - Rough preseason for the-- - Yeah, for Buzz City. - Also, their first game of the season is in San Antonio? - Yes. If that game was on a weekend, I'd go. - One of my thoughts for just, like, just on our little document here was that Romeo Langford might be a starter in San Antonio. - Yeah, and for context, I am, I think probably the biggest Romeo Langford supporter on the in the universe. - I think he will be a really effective player one day, and I think it'll happen in San Antonio and it starts this year. 'Cause San Antonio has no one. - Yeah. - They have, like, two guards and one of them is Romeo. - Like, yeah. - Yeah, that team is rough shape. - What did they do in preseason? They just-- - We talked about them last year, too. Do you remember sitting on the floor of Ms. Ledford's room? And we were talking about San Antonio. We looked at each other and we were like, whoa. This team's got fucking nobody yeah, they just have been like been like leaking players essentially like They they had just like crazy like Crazy like backload of just these really like effective players and now they're just spread across the league and like doing other shit like Dijon Tamer is in like Atlanta. Yeah What's his name? He went to Los Angeles. He went to the Lakers. Oh My god. Yeah, they just I am looking at this roster. Oh my god. Yeah, it's rough We walker. They lost Lonnie Walker. We're literally looking at Yeah, we're looking at Trade Jones Romeo Lankford Keldin Johnson And like May it's not cool. Oh, yeah, so probably it might be Primo over Romeo. It might be yeah, I also have Josh Richardson I yeah, it like if they're like gonna ever try and win a game. It should be Their lineup should be trade Jones Primo Richardson Keldin Johnson and then like One of the random centers like they have they have Yaka Pertal Gorgie Dang and Zach Collins just throw any of those guys on yeah, five. It's fine It's still have K debates D up to these three. Yeah, he's fine All right, but yeah, and but Romeo is like legitimately. They're they're like Maybe third or fourth best player Like it's like all of them are also shooting gardens Right, they just have yeah, they just have a bunch like none of them are good, right? Josh Richardson is that team's best player, which is ridiculous. I I'm gonna be intrigued in the line the Spread Josh Primo sleeper rookie of the year just because of the production. He's gonna have there. Yeah, yeah for real All right Let's move on So like can we just start talking about the Spurs. Yeah, I love it. Hey, so it's it's pretty much just like the most Notable the most the player the player that played the most out of their like It's hard to describe kind of It's like most notable player of the week if if a guy the average eight points for game last week put 24 points for game We're talking about him as player the week correct. That's pretty much other words Yeah, so we just did this for the entire pre-season for this first episode of So we figured on Craig Randall from the Adelaide 36ers of the Australian National Yeah, wow So game one against Phoenix they blew the doors off Phoenix they beat him by 10 points He went 13 for 21 9 for 17 on threes and 35 points It was that that game was was something else. I I woke up I woke up the next day and watched the game I woke up the next day and just watched highlights of his game He was legitimately just walking up the floor and just calling from 28 every single possession like Like he was just like he would just like Like casually take the ball. He would do what you do and pick up where you just like casually dribble it up And then just pull from like 30 and just draining shit. It was ridiculous It's like this and I see when I go over to the rec center and play pick up. Yep, it's ridiculous and like Like like Phoenix like They're good like to yeah Like Phoenix is a good team very good team And they lost by 10 Now they Australian. Yeah, and they didn't play their starters the whole game But still the team put up like 134 points, I think like So it wasn't just this one guy like that is a complete team. No, they're yeah, like there was they're like There were other guys that were like 20 plus points ridiculous And then he wasn't done the second game. They went and played at okay see that I told you I was like oh they were favored in that game 36ers were favored over at the thunder he went 11 for 21 5 for 11 on 3s 8 assists and 27 points That's easily player the week. I mean we just got to talk about it. No, he's not a player and it's ridiculous that like That like guys like like it It puts it a perspective just how good any pro basketball player is uh-huh, that like this guy isn't in the league And like he didn't get a contract still like he's still just not gonna play NBA basketball. Yeah I don't know and we can see someone picking him up. I think right, but like he hasn't yet It's what I mean like no he it wasn't a g-league last year in the net's organization He won actually most improved player in the g-league. So yeah, he's he's been he's been playing over here Right, but yeah, he he's on the adolescent 36 years because he wanted the more he wanted more money than the g-league was offered Yeah, and he didn't have a path to the NBA somehow Just ridiculous right All right, so that was pretty good Um, and then I I was gonna look for another guy, but I just said no That's just like an easy choice Yeah, we're not we're not talking to anyone else. This was his Yeah, it's just his time All right, so players to watch for the upcoming week it works the same It's not the MVP. It's the most notable guy that played as well as they could have Uh That's going to play as well So it's for the upcoming week. I think the first week of season. I'm gonna go with Mr. RJ Barrett I love this guy. He did not get talked about last season nearly as much as he should have um He and Brunson actually might have some conflict because they are the same exact player Uh, they're the same guy. Yeah, Brunson's just like Brunson's just RJ Barrett, but like two inches shorter Really, they're the same player. Yeah, um RJ's gonna want the ball a lot Um, but he last year like After he hit that crazy game winner against you guys against the Celtics. Yeah No one talked about it Yeah, he was doing really good stuff. Let me find his numbers from last year. I think it's just because the nicks are so like we're so So just like forgettable last year. I don't know Like yeah, they were. I think RJ Barrett's great. I really do. I like him as a player But I again just think it's gonna be tough for him to stand out like In the in the larger league when he's just on the nicks like right exactly exactly Yeah, I could see is so if the nicks are really bad, I could see him getting moved at the deadline Yeah, like it but if they're if they're like a certain type of that if they're like if they're like 12 in the conference by the trade deadline. I think they move right Because like if they're still in play in contention than no every right if they're gonna if they're like and if they're 15th They're gonna keep them because yeah every team is just gonna try and Polarize to either going to the playoffs or like really truly tanking this year for room but win Banyama like I think I think the trades we're gonna see at the deadline this you're gonna be ridiculous for the for the tank Yeah, yeah, it's it kind of reminds me of the Zion thing we thought Zion Oh my gosh. I remember when the Pelicans won the lottery They were like so unlikely to win it. Yeah And I mean I still think it's really good, but we'll get to that in like two minutes. Um, yeah So last year I'll take very average 20 points again. Yeah, he had a good year. He just never got talked about right Only shot the ball 40 41% though 34% from three. It's not bad. He's like he's like a fine shooter, but like he's on really high volume So it's yeah, it's like it's pretty He's pretty good. Yeah, I mean I could see the next as a play in team now. I could yeah, I could see that All right, you want to go ahead? So yeah my my player to watch uh was Zion Williamson And uh, it's just because we haven't seen him in a long time and I really like watching him uh dunk the basketball and I think that's cool and um excited to see that again and From what he what he was doing in the precinct he looks healthy. He looks like he's in really good shape like Probably better shape than he came into the league and like I think he's gonna do great and could be like I have a really good year. I think really good week Yeah, I'm just excited. I'm excited to see him play again because he's he's one of my favorite players Yeah, he's awesome and when when he was killing it I don't think he was getting talked about enough. He didn't make the all-star team and I thought he should have It's because it's because he like almost never played but yeah If he if he could stay healthy this year he'll be like probably like all of a second team guy Yeah, sure. Yeah, like that guy rules And I remember the remember that one week where it was like his like first or second week in the league And he was just like draining threes and then he got hurt and never played that the rest of the year like He's just like shooting from like 28 feet and just like just draining four threes a game That like first game where he played um, I think it was against Maybe San Antonio something like that. Yeah, and uh and like So right now they like did such a whole thing for Zion playing and he made like six threes There's ridiculous. I gave it so cool. I I'm so excited to see him play again. I just think He's he's so good for basketball. He really is Yeah, all right now. It's time for special segment holy shit. It's the offseason baby So you can tell you can tell which sex which sexons you you created and which sexons I created yeah, yeah So um, we've got we both got a top three and a bottom three of uh Teams that moved up and down with their offseason move. So resigning extensions and he sort of turmoil anything Um, yeah Uh, so should I should I do my top three in the bottom three or show I do top three then you're top three And then my bottom three will do will do both top threes first and then bottom threes. Okay, okay So I'll go with my top three first then you can go with yours um So my top three is going to be the Celtics at number one as just the best like they had the best offseason the mda. I think Um They got bragged in and gone are I think bragged in also doesn't get talked about not just because he's on the free and pacers And they dumped they dumped the guys that they don't want Right, they don't eat the big guy. We just we just got rid of like all of the players we didn't play Right like all of the dead contracts. We essentially just like kept Sam house or a luke or net just to be bodies And then like everyone else that didn't play last year is just gone. It's yeah. I think is actually more important than getting Mitchell I agree actually. It's very, probably wouldn't work very well because of just the roster way, the way the Washer set up. But like. He could be a stretch three. He could. Yeah. I don't know. They gave up a lot of if like if the calves get bounced in like the first round the next couple years, like that'll be a terrible trade. Yeah. But I just don't think that'll happen. I think that trade is going to work out very well because regard like. I don't think they're picks that gave up are going to be very good because I think they're going to have a sustained run of talent because they're all like they're really good, but they're also young, right? So probably be good for like five, six years, so I think it was a good move. I like it. I also like the Jazz. They're also in my top three. It's weird having both sides of that trade in my top three. Yeah. I just think it worked out really well for both franchises. The Jazz are pulling a same press C and just blowing it up and letting it, letting this team rot and seeing if they can get some cool draft picks out of it. I don't think it'll actually be that bad this year though. I really do. Yeah, I think they're going to be terrible. Oh, yeah. Not now. We're just in Antonio though. No. Yeah, Jazz will be pretty bad, but that is a good thing. And then I also have the Clippers because they're getting their guys back from injury. They had a good year regardless of like missing, you know, they're two best players in the playoffs last year. And I think the the John Wall signing could be like, could be an incredible move. You see, he had one game in preseason that he just looked like he just looked like he was on the Wizards in like 2015 here. Yeah. So we'll see how that works out, but I think that could it's a really interesting move and it could work out super well. Yeah, I like, I actually like that one a lot and it's a really good choice action. Yeah, but again, I love, love the Celtics off season. Yeah, that was such a weird thing. I remember we were, we were like calling each other on draft and I'd be like, oh, Jalen Derrin is a great pick. Like I'm excited to see you in Charlotte and then just like five minutes later, you just all of a sudden wasn't on the team anymore. You were like, wait, no, he's gone. I was like, what are you talking about? I was just kind of pissed because I was like, I just wanted to see Jalen Derrin. Because I could go to Hornets games easier than any other team. I was like, oh, yeah, Jalen Derrin will be cool up Jalen Derrin's God. Yep. And then they all said the coach turnover. Now the thing is, I think that's actually a good move. Getting Steve Clifford. A Ken. I've been in minority now. Yeah, I strongly disagree with that. The Clifford's better than James Braygo, right? Yes, but there were better options. Yeah, but I could have gotten much better. The coach is the Steve Clifford. I know Mike Dantonini. I so, I don't, but I like Steve Clifford as a coach. Baron James Braygo. But I think the fact that they had coach turnover is bad for the team and bad for the for it. Do you get any coach? Yeah, I did. So, all right. So my number two for bottom three is the Wolves. Oh my God. What a horrible offseason. What does that mean? Yeah, they are not that far behind the horn, it's honestly just awful shit. Yeah. Loss Malik Beasley. They lost Beverly, who actually was kind of good. They lost Vanderbilt. They lost Josh Akogi and they lost so many picks. And we talked about this right when this happened. Go bear and cat. Like they're not, they're the same like some go bear can't shoot. It's just, it's going to ruin like cats, like, like inside game. Like his, he's just going to not, like, he's just going to do like the Kevin Love thing on offense, I guess, where he's just going to stand like on the wing and shoot. Yeah. Which like he can do fine, but like he's much more effective when like he's doing high post stuff and like running pick and rolls, but with go bear sitting in the paint, it's going to be terrible. Yeah. I think it really just stagnates the offense, just like I did in Utah. It'll make a defense a lot better, but yeah, their offense could be really bad. And they just gave up so much and another reason. So and then number three, I put the bulls, you know, I was so high on the bulls before last season. Oh, yeah. You were, you were in love with that bulls. Yeah. Yeah. But they did not add anybody like they did not move either way. And I think they needed to because I think they'll be lucky to match as many wins as they did last year because I, I think they're the same team, but I don't know if they can have as special of a start to the season that they as a did last year. Yeah. So I think they'll be somewhere in the range of like mid 40s wins, which is underwhelming. Yeah. Yeah. It's, yeah. I agree. It's just, I've never gotten the hype on this team because defensively, it's like really tough. Like, like Levine and Demar right next to each other with Vouchivic at the five is just like a horrific defensive lineup. Like I just don't get it. Yeah. And I get like like Lonzo and like guys like IO and, you know, like they have, and Patrick Williams, they have good defenders, but just having those three guys on the floor at the same time is unreal. Yeah. Just bad defensively. Yeah. All right. So you want to go with your bottom three? I sure do. So I had the hornets as well. I think we covered them enough. I would have put the Timberwolves, but I wanted to talk about two other teams. The Timberwolves had a truly horrible wall of season. Yeah. So I also, I put the nicks. I hate the Brunson signing with all of my, my being. I think it was really, really bad move for the next, it's just, it, it makes them like three games better. And like, they're paying him so much like. Like we already talked about this, like him and him and RJ Barrett are redundant. Like, I don't really see what, what he helps. Like they were bad last year. Yeah. They should have, they should have just like a good offseason for them would have been to move Julius Randall and just try and build around RJ Barrett and they did not do that. And I just don't like anything that they're doing. I also put in the wizards kind of a similar deal. I think they should have tanked and not signed to be able to a massive extension. So bad. Like, man. Yeah, I feel terrible, but like, also he's getting paid like, right, he's on a, three hundred trillion dollar a year like, he like, he got like a mega max for being like, pretty good. Yeah. It's weird. Um, yeah, they should have, they should have, they, I wish they traded him at the deadline last year, I wish they had either just let him walk or don't assign any trade or something.
