Small Business Spotlight! w/ Kevin Ryan & H. Foley

In this episode of "Are You Garbage?", hosts Kevin Ryan and H Foley introduce a "Small Business Episode" to highlight and support fans who own businesses. The idea originated from a listener's suggestion and their own experience needing help with a pool, which activated a community of "homies and bozos" offering services. They clarify that they are a "micro enterprise" and invite submissions, receiving hundreds of responses despite keeping it low-profile. The hosts review several businesses, including Water Ice LLC in Bozeman, Montana, which serves East Coast-style water ice to a niche audience; H&H Processing, a Kentucky butcher that processes over 200 deer annually and donates to food pantries; Pox Brewing Company, a Connecticut brewery themed around toxins with a poison dart frog exhibit; Wicker Construction, a veteran-owned Nashville company; Jack Folk, a carpenter in Denver; Haven by Katie Neary, a professional organizer in Yonkers; PGW Auto Detail in Norristown, PA; RAF Mobile Mechanic in New Jersey; and Titans Painting in Kansas City. They call Patrick from PGW Auto Detail live, who is delivering food at a mall, and give him a shout-out. The hosts praise the owners' work ethic, integrity, and community spirit, noting how the submissions remind them of the show's early days and the strength of their fanbase. They plan to continue featuring small businesses, celebrating the "salt of the earth" entrepreneurs who embody the show's ethos.

Oh yeah, it's that little show we sit down with your favorite comedians. And we find that if you're to be classy, you have to do just a big old piece of trash. Trash, trash, trash. I'm your host, H Foley coming at you on a beautiful day. We're out back here at Toody's in a new edition, since this is a small business episode. Uh-huh. She wants you to know about Pat's image of hair styling. Out there in Bluebell, Pennsylvania, give him a call 610-279-9089. If you need a fresh cut, hit 'em up. Completely untransactional. That announcement from Antutti about Pat's image of hair styling. Pat's image of hair styling, Bluebell, Pennsylvania, 610-279-9089. My co-scombination across the table is called "Family Episode" just to boys, to bozos, and to homie. Just to wait like it. He is my best pal in the whole wide world. He is the lyrical gangster, the king of the burbs, Kevin James Ryan. I'm pushing that. I don't know if I like it. What up, everybody? Shout out to you. First of all, thanks for tuning in. Please make sure you're a review, subscribe, and I've done this full video available on YouTube. Full video over there available on Spotify. Oh, gee. His tongue is weird. I twisted a little bit too. Yeah. Pat's image of hair styling. Now I'm in the bonus. Spotify.com. That's Spotify. I'm all flustered. Spotify.com. Let me tell you something about Spotify.com. I don't think it's a website. It comes in S. So stop. Was that a website? What? That's a chance. Certified charity. Spotify. And Pat's images. What was the image? I was big in the 80s and 80s. What? Image the hair. It had the dudes on it to fucking the thing. He was a sponsor of my softball or my baseball team. I didn't play softball. Yeah, he's funny. A sponsor of my slow pace. Yeah, he was a sponsor of our baseball team. Oh, and nine. One of his money came right out. He ran out at the last game. He took his jerseys off. He took him fat idiot. He took those finger combs back. There are those things in the wall. Yeah, I got those stuff. I never did. I thought they were for horses and stuff. I didn't know what that. But shut up, dude. I want it one of them. Spotify. What? Like can I get top 100 of all podcasts. Very nice. Number 84. Last time I checked. Number 24 in comedy podcast. Thank you. Yeah, that's in the fucking charts. Luke. Yeah, apparently. Apparently. He's always upset with Luke right now. No, I'm not. I love you. We're right there, baby. But uh, we, uh, yes. And patreon.com such are garbage. Close it on 16,000 over there, baby. Army. Army of garbage. Truly is. And then honestly, that's what this whole episode is. You may know, you may not know. We alluded to in a family episode. We talked about on the patreon. We sent some emails, stuff like that. Been a little, a little low under the radar. A little bit of a. We had the idea of kind of talking, you know, of, uh, interacting with small business owners. Who are fans of the podcast? Yes, we did. Uh, and it had that idea. It came. You and I. Sure. Totally. And Pat's image of his talent. Um, we, uh, it came. The idea came about one from a listener who, who DN, but it also stemmed from. I needed help with my shitty above ground pool. I put a story up. And it got flooded with like blue collar guys. People go, I own this. I'm a this. I don't know. I own pool company. I did this for years. My family owns this. Homey's and bozos were activated. Just like when we got our carpet done here at Tuddy's. Yes. Very much. The boys showed up from long. I don't. Uh, so there's, so that kind of was just like, oh, shit. And someone said, uh, a. To a real community. A fan wrote and he goes, Hey, I forgot the example. He's like, if there was a tile company in my in St. Louis, I would use him knowing he's a homey or a bozo over some other Joe 100%. So I was like, Oh, that's really good work. Then, uh, we mentioned it. And then people started writing like, Oh, we'll give 10% off if a fucking whatever. If they mentioned the pot or something. So we're trying to unite this fucking. It's, it's very fight club. We, what is it? We, we wash your dishes. We fix your cars. We, it's a fucking loan your money. Loan sharks. Any loan sharks out there. Just, you know, keep them in the thing. Sure. You know, uh, uh, uh, um, we believe Angie's list network. Shippy's list. I'll give you that. Don't put me on it. Small, small, small find your feed. Taking off business loans in my name. You'll probably be doing. I thought that was going to be the toady. Took out a SBA loan. No, no. Okay. I was just rolling with that. I went with patch image of hairstyle. I'm not sure. Yeah, I wasn't my best choice. I wasn't saying it was bad. It's real. Okay. Toady taking on an SBA loan. That's fictitious comedy. I like to be rooted in reality. But I didn't post to someone else. I know who took out a SBA loan. I didn't know, uh, did you? An SBA loan. Huge. No shit. Yeah, uh, well, pandemic. Find your equity. Yeah, he's making a short squeeze on you. He's short of this podcast. But I didn't know that's why if we go, if we end up hiring the charts, we're going to screw them. It's like that. Oh, you're like, uh, you're like the owner and major league. The hot old late hot. Middle age lady. I loved her back then. She was also in secret to my success. That's a great movie. I don't think I've ever seen it. No kids. My DJ Fox vehicle. Very good. Not the biggest Michael J guy. Well, I didn't get it. The vest. What? Yeah, I know the 80s. Yeah, it's like, yeah, I just, it wasn't my, uh, what year did back to the future come out? First of all, you're a parkinson's crusader. Oh, yeah, because I'm a big fan of that. What do you know? I'm a big fan of Parkinson's crusader. Not to say you're not doing great. I like Spin City. Yeah. Wasn't Charlie Sheen on that too. He replaced them. Everything got the tics. That's a real tough thing to do. Luckily, or when they were dating at some point. Boy, love that Charlie Sheen. 1985 for back to the future. Yeah. By the time I saw that. You were born in 86. Yeah. So by the time I would come across my desk, that stuff is eight. I just was like, I'm sitting there. Fuck it. That's trash. Not saying it was trash. But I would also say the technology changed a bit. So that was like. I guess it was like dated. Like visually it was dated. I'm like, this is like. Like the first couple episodes of cheers. Sure. Look really bad. They're like really bad. But it was also. I wasn't my dad wasn't introducing me. Like, here's a little guy on a flying skateboard. That's not the kind of shit we were into. As a family unit. Sure. You know what this is? They hear out of your dad. Yes. We used to watch home alone and only watched the buzz parts. You know what I mean? He was packing his own car. And leaving. K-E-C-E-E-Y. A little rarer. All right. Someone's hurt. I'm not hurt. Due to previous conversation before the fuck. What are you talking about? You know what I'm talking about. I do. I appreciate it. Of course I appreciate it. I love you. Yeah. Thanks. Man, seven different kinds of smoke today. That's crazy. What? Pinnis on me. Pimor on you. I don't know. Dude, there's always it's always good for his evil with you. I like back to the future. And I like Michael. I'm not sure it's great. I just saying I a lot of that stuff that you really resonated with you. Sure. I watched it and fucking, you know, 96 at that point. I got fucking better shit going on. And some guy trying to fuck his mom. The kid watching Bluey these days. Kids are big on Bluey. Yeah, now he's not really watching. Bingo and Bluey. You don't love the, you don't love the tube. All right. They're sisters, I think. Do you know this? Yeah, it's other dogs. Are they dogs? I don't know what they're blueies a dog. Blueies a dog. Um, learn a lot. But any who back to the program at hand, talk business, uh, small, there we go. We are a small business. We are. You define what a small business is. I think if I remember from we already did. It's less than a hundred employees. 50, I think it's less than 50. I could be honest, it could be wrong. Uh, that's what I remember from a hundred years ago. I've been saying that a lot. Fewer than 500 employees. What? Jesus. That's every fucking business. Yeah, 400 employees is a lot. That's a lot of sharks. Micro enterprises have 10 or fewer. We are micro enterprise. That's a good penis. It ain't macro data. It ain't micro. We have micro, I have a little micro enterprise. And you're underwear. That's what we call a little out in there. I get holy shit. I like that. Give me more on micro enterprise. Requires less than 50,000 in startup capital. I had perfect way less than that. Focus on serving local communities or niche markets. Let's go. Okay. Frequently launched using micro loans rather than traditional bank finance. We did take a micro loan. Let's take a loan from my wife. Yes. Should I pay back? Okay. Guilty conscience. When it comes to money. Like most small business owners. Of course, we're in over the head. We're not a small business. We're a micro enterprise. Yeah, I think Micro enterprise by definition are small business. Hi folks. I'm H. Foley of Tudy LLC We're not a small business. We're a micro enterprise and we want to help you build your business today So if you get your checkbook out I think that payable to H. Foley or Pads image affairs Which is a show company? I've started with my mother in blue back Yeah, I come listen, and so I mean we have we've had fucking hundreds of submissions at this point Which I thought we were gonna get 40 50 something like that Everybody said they're hustling. We didn't even really do a like we didn't post it on social media or anything We made a comment. I think we sent an email out. That's about it real like under the under like low profile a little bit Just to see what it was and I mean I haven't even been able to get through all of them which we will but I came up I think about this a lot. I came up living in a the operations of a small business I think that's why it comes very natural to you know as Complicated as it may be running business with friends and fat. It's like that's all I was all I know I was always an employee of a small business Yeah, my father was an employee Uh-huh actually my dad did start I think he had a little offshoot of his own little insurance business What do you have in the head? What the fuck what started his own Navy? It's like losers of my father was an employee just a long a long line of slums What's wrong with dad my grandfather was a debt He was in debt is prison first man executed but not having enough money and he got caught stealing oats from the local farm That's what your whole was barley. Yeah, but you're close. He's family that I call was the horse thieves. I can't Have something. Yeah, they because they changed their name was somebody who changed their name Horse thieves He had a little small business for a little while. I think a lot of that was just to write off a piece of their house You know, I think I was big in the early 2000s Still big now you do it. Do I I mean the account does it for you huh? I live in the white house Right now seven million dollars Home Okay wish you well Love you buddy. So it's just and then people right in wrote in you know I didn't think they were gonna share as much of their story as they did which made it even a billion I love it and it really fucking I was talking about I go it's really Reminded me how fucking awesome the homies in the Bosos are because like they took this like idea We had it in like even gave us more on their life and their background and stuff like that and it reminds you The early days of the show where we used to go. They just get it like they just know how to when they learned how to ask the question You go that's fucking I couldn't write that myself. It was that good. Have you or any member of your fan? Yeah But it's like now that's such so such part of the lexicon that we don't even really think about it But see in this though lexicon. Yeah, I like zeitgeist too. I also like micro enterprise and microdosing I Did for a little bit. I remember. I think you were at a pretty good stage at that point when I was microdosing trumps Yeah, I mean that's yeah, but then I just started taking a bunch of I remember and I was there Oh, yeah, I remember man. That's pretty cool See what they got they got a podcast who he's freaking kids are you buy a home in Japan? All right David Sellers side communications. No, don't play the video. Okay, it's till you know just blindly playing fucking me We're producing a show here. Can I own a home in Japan? Yes, you have the same ownership rights as a Japanese citizen you own both the home and the land Don't we do that here? Yeah, but I think in some countries you might just own the house and not the land How much of property tax property tax is about 1.7% of the assessed value of the home So cheaper houses mean cheaper taxes for reference on a $40,000 home taxes are about $600 per year that ain't bad But I got a fucking commute. What's that commute? See what I see what a flight to Japan is in like three months. It's like eight hours Yeah, no, I'm saying money. Why money? Oh, how long is it though? What how long is a flight to Japan? Speedy it's probably like fucking 14 hours 14 hour. Well, what's Hawaii? I'm not fucking commuting from Hawaii and don't bring that up It's a touchy subject cheap is flight is about $5.97. That's a 28 hour $500 yeah, it's $600. That's not bad. So this is you want to get a vacation home in Japan something like that I also think listen, we're not we travel a lot, but we're not like Fucking backpackers. No, dude a people for 600 bucks ago 600 bucks in a day. I'm in Japan. They're all about that I don't live that kind of life, but a lot of people this is like something I'm fucking already would do Yeah, I own a fucking $20,000 Japanese house Out of the door. Thank you very much, Mr. Robato. It's pretty cool thinking outside the box Homeowner's insurance around 300 bucks a year. It's great. That's good including earthquake coverage Case I use the bathroom Simple joke from a simple man Okay, not to throw that back at you Why are homes is Japan so cheap, but check that out because of unique combination of permissive zoning that allows massive housing over supply a Shrinking population and cultural preference for a new construction over old homes. So you're buying an old fucking Find an old fucking Jalope Japan set Jala I don't know how to copy it's a car Now Jalope he's not that Jalope is like a beat up car. Okay, an old Jalope What do you got Luke? I think it's based on it. You're good. Yeah What is it? I heard my uncle I heard my uncle say it so I thought it was bad If you hear it on a while with boardwalk you fucking it's there's a going for limiting bad news What do you got Luke 1920's turn for an old broken-down car? People think it oh boy. All right Japanese homes everybody Kevin's uncles think it's They think it's a slur. It's not Very nice very nice drinking population in Japan. Yeah sucks. Well, they have a lot of old people. Uh-huh That's good to live forever. They're eating all the purple potatoes, and they're not having as many kids now And I just found out they eat something else too this close yeah, hey done That's one of my favorite jokes of all time. They eat like mung beans or something like that There's something that they have that gives it to take the hot new thing Fermented something. It gives you something. This is very informative. I know I'm bad with it. It looks like it looks like melted peanut brittle It all comes down to socialization. That's what all the oldest people who have that and olive oil And remember that we thought that was gonna save everybody had that on it I just remember we'll go to a tiny restaurant my dad would be soaking his fucking bread and a tie Yeah, just rounding it in that fucking pound of Parmesan cheese on it. All right Let's see here very cool if you're that's a very that's a very ancient also look at the fucking I love it outside of it Like they they're fucking doing everything that's what saying vertical integration micro processes Enterprise Frank micro enterprise. All right. Let's see here. This is DiCaprio. This is real fucking saw to the other shit. This one's from Dylan Perry H and H and H and H Processing love it. What do you think that is they process criminals? Meet processing in prep really, uh-huh. I like this Okay, they run a true farm to table butcher shop out of their property in Cynthia and I believe I'm pronounced that Cynthia and it's Cynthia and it can tucky He is a certified by as I guess the dad is certified by the state through the University of Kentucky and can handle beef pork turkey beer bison and elk He is equipped to handle the entire job from slaughter to packaging and makes the customer orders for In-house made jerky steak sausage burgers hot dogs and carry just about anything else you can think of To eat some clean and fresh meat Whoa, that's look at that hat if that's not a guy who knows his way around the beer. That's crazy ship the hats That's a fucking sick hat that camo if for the audio listeners camo with the with like the hunters orange H and H Processing 859-333-1603 so if you're in the Kentucky area Synthiana so if you're a hunter do you bring you bring your thing in an a process of for you?
