Siena Grima Discusses Her First Group 1 Ride!

Sienna Agreemer joins the show ahead of her first Group 1 ride on Saturday, a milestone she calls emotional and surreal after starting out riding in the country. She found out three weeks ago, giving her time to manage her weight properly. She will ride God's Window in the Epsom, a horse she describes as quirky but talented, who loves the mile and has won at the track and trip before. She drew barrier 13 and hopes to let him settle and find clear running. She is grateful to the owners, trainer Chris, and the stable for the opportunity. Her partner Jack Baker will attend, though her father is in the States and her mother is working. She also rides Chispa, who draws well with 50 kilos, and Captain Fury, who has a wider draw but weight relief. Earlier today she had two rides at Illawarra Grange for Star Thoroughbreds, both first-up and trialling nicely. She is encouraged to soak in the moment, with more Group 1 opportunities expected in her career.

Speaker 1This next guest, I'm so excited for her because this is her first Group 1 ride. We've seen her have success riding in town. It's been an incredible, really, year. I reckon when she looks back on her career, she'll look at 2026 and go, wow. And I speak of Sienna Agreemer, who joins us on the line.
Speaker 2G'day, Sienna. Hi, thanks so much for having me.
Speaker 1I've got to also apologise. This is the first time I've spoken to you since the Night of Champions, the Racing Night of Champions, where I was involved in that prank and I was interviewing you and you had no idea that Luke Marlowe and Nick Burney were upstairs telling me to say those things.
Speaker 2It definitely caught me off guard.
Speaker 1Yeah, you were sort of standing there going, what is this bloke talking about? Firstly, well, I guess before we talk about this weekend's ride, one, you're riding in a Group 1 on Saturday. Can you believe it?
Speaker 2No, I can't, actually.
Speaker 1When did you find out?
Speaker 2I found out about three weeks ago, mostly so Darren could give me the heads up just to get my weight right without doing it all at once and wrecking myself. So it's been a nice little transition.
Speaker 1Right. So to have this opportunity, I know the stable has supported you with big moments and you've ridden some wonderful horses. But to have this opportunity, and I guess you reflect on it with family and friends, do you get a little bit emotional?
Speaker 2I definitely do. I think back to when I was riding in the country and how nervous I would get for a race, just any other race. And then now I sit back and think, well, now I'm riding in my first Group 1 race on Saturday. So it is a very emotional thing to think about, but I'm also really proud of where I've come.
Speaker 1You ride a horse called God's Window on the weekend who comes out of the Theo Marks. And you rode, of course, this bloke in the Theo Marks. He's won before. He's won before. He's won before. Second up, of course, he did have those trials after the McHale Cup, but he's a horse that just might surprise. He loves the mile. And he's also won at the track and trip before.
Speaker 2He has. And I'm very grateful to the owners for keeping me on in such a high-profile race. And obviously to the team and Chris for putting me on him and giving me such an amazing opportunity. He is a little quirky to ride. He can get pulling if you don't get things right. So I'm really looking forward to it, especially second up to the mile backing up off his Theo Marks run, which I was really happy with.
Speaker 1And I guess you've also drawn 13. So that's not too bad. You're going to have, at least you're hopefully going to have some clear air once you can straighten him up.
Speaker 2Exactly right. I was hoping for a little bit closer, but I'm happy to be there and let him just begin and flow and sit in the field where he's comfortable. And like you said, just have that clear running and hopefully something to take me into the straight.
Speaker 1Can you let us know whether the family and friends are going to be there on Saturday? Surely your folks and whatnot will be there. They must be very excited.
Speaker 2They are excited. Unfortunately, my dad's in the States. He didn't know I was going to be riding in it until he was already over there. And my mom's stuck at work, but my partner, Jack Baker, he should be making an appearance.
Speaker 1Beautiful. All right. Well, hopefully. Hopefully, that's the lucky charm you need. You've got a couple of other good riders as well. You ride Chispa and Captain Fury as well. Have you looked at the form for those two runners?
Speaker 2I have a little bit in preparation. I'm very excited to get on Chispa, obviously. She had a great prep, last prep. She'll get in with the 50 kilos as well. And she draws really well. Captain Fury, unfortunately, he's drawn a little bit worse. But a nice little bit of weight relief. We'll help him do.
Speaker 1And also, Sienna, two rides today on the Illawarra Grange.
Speaker 2Yes. Two today for the lovely Star Thoroughbreds team. They've both trialled up very nicely, both first up today. So I'm very much looking forward to them.
Speaker 1I like it. Enjoy and soak in every moment from Saturday. This won't be your first and only Group 1 you ride in. You're going to have plenty more that you will be a part of. But it's so good. But you can have Tab Epsom as your first. And enjoy every moment.
Speaker 2Thank you so much.
