Should Blue Jackets fans be worried about Adam Fantilli?

The "What Chaos" podcast marks its first-ever football day episode, celebrating the occasion with a mix of humor and serious sports news. The show highlights the Ducks’ decision to place Chris Crider on waivers, citing financial cap constraints and his desire to return east, potentially to Boston or Detroit. Meanwhile, Blue Jackets’ unsigned first-round pick Adam Phantilly continues to draw attention, with fans questioning whether his lack of a contract signals team instability or a strategic misstep amid rising player salaries. A major controversy centers on the Oilers signing Alex Formington, a player with a past sexual assault charge, sparking intense debate over ethical responsibility, team culture, and the broader implications of signing players with red flags. The show also critiques the rollout of NHL 27, calling it a failure due to unrecognizable face scans, broken gameplay, and poor AI integration, which has led to widespread player disillusionment. Additionally, the discussion touches on media culture, including the use of AI in games, player behavior, and the rise of fan-driven scrutiny. The team reflects on how hockey organizations navigate high-stakes decisions involving player history, risk, and public perception, emphasizing that while winning is paramount, the moral and social dimensions of those choices matter increasingly. Ultimately, the episode underscores a growing tension between performance-driven hockey and the accountability expected from teams in today’s socially conscious environment.

(upbeat music) - It is Wednesday, September 9th, United States and Canada football day in the United States. And this is a show called "What Chaos" from the Sports and Action City on Boss, Massachusetts. My name is David B and I sit beside Pete Blackburn, holding it down in the city of Champs. Is Sean Depaz, Sean, I got a question for you. Are you wearing a collared shirt under a sweater? - No, I'm just wearing like a rugby shirt. - Oh, okay, I couldn't, it's a, people gonna hate this. It's an OVO University of Toronto rugby shirt that my friend found at a thrift shop in Toronto. And I think it's sick, so I'm wearing it. - Why are people gonna hate that? 'Cause it's OVO. - OVO. - OVO. - That's what I say. - OVO. - Oh, step, this way. - Step, that way. - You know what song Pete? - I do know that song, yeah. - It's called, they don't really care about us. - It's probably Michael Jackson. - It's right. - It's not football day, and well, I guess it is football day, but it's been football day in the United States and Canada for quite some time. - Yes, but well, no, we've never done a real football day though. - Say again? - We've never done a show on football day. - Right. - This is the first football day show we've done. - And it's the first pro football day. - That's right. - Well, that's good to see you watching us. - I mean, yeah, depends on your lines are blurred. - Nope, nope. As you see, LSU, they added guys to the roster, so those NFL players are not gonna be playing college football. - They tried though. - They tried. - They did, they certainly did. - I'm all under the weather folks today, so thank you for Baron with me. I'm gonna try to not grunt or sneeze too much. Thank you to everybody for the kind words on the engagement. We discussed that on the Patreon episode. Everybody very, very nice. Love you so much. We've got a lot of stuff happening today, including like quite a bit of breaking news in the last few minutes, so Pete tell the folks what we'll do today. - Today on the show, let us discuss signings, potential and derogatory. That has got to do with, I think potential would be Adam Phantilly. - I think it happens sometime. - We can throw Chris Crider into that pile now because he's without a contract. Got a contract termination with the ducks. And derogatory, I think we can go ahead and jump to assumptions and say that's about Alex Formington, who has signed with the Edmonton Oilers this morning. We've got goaded, I can't see. Goaded rollout derogatory because NHL27, about a week can change into the worst sports video game rollout. I think that I've ever witnessed. I feel very vindicated that I declared this was the year I was going to officially start sitting out that game until it got better. Not a single thing has come across my timeline that has made me want to play that game or even look at it. - Well, I guess I'll look at it. - It kind of makes me want to play it. - Yes, it's the Don't Worry Darling of Video Games, where the rollout and the press tour is such a catastrophe that I'm like, I got to see what they actually made here. - Ah, no. - I'm in the throes of college football 27. Like it is straight up taken over my life. I say that all the time about NHL. Like if NHL made an awesome video game, it would pretty borderline ruin my life because I would stop doing all of my adult responsibilities and get so invested in my franchise on the video game. That's happening to me in college football and it's been a really unproductive week and change for me. Next up, we got baby names. What's that all about? - Carly Rae Jepsen revealed that heated rivalry may or may not have inspired the name of her child and I am all for that dogart reporting by Nicole Fell. We're gonna talk about that. Shut up, Carly Rae Jepsen. The season is upon us. - Season is upon us also. I think she's a liar. We'll talk about that later in the show. - Okay. - I think she's a liar. And finally, cupcake ketchup because an elevated cupcake experience happened. - Yeah, I don't know how much I care about it, but I feel like it's an important thing in the hockey world. And I think that this is an opportunity for me to relearn exactly what that is. I think I might not have ever known what it was in the first place. We've got some pictures and I believe some video. - So I feel like the biggest confusion around the elevated cupcake experience was who it was being provided to and who was the guest. - Yes, yeah. I think we took like a couple weeks to sort through that. - Yeah. We will get there, but first, breaking news. Just minutes before the show, from Elliot Friedman on SportsNet. - Yes, great to see the byline. SportsNet.ca, by Elliot Friedman September 9th, 2069, Tates in Canada, 1157 AM. In an effort to ease their sudden salary cap, crunch, the Anaheim Ducks are expected to place Chris Crider on waivers for the purposes of contract termination, the move which is happening with Crider's approval would make the player an unrestricted free agent once he passes through according to several sources. Crider has indicated he desires to return east, closer to family where he spent the first 13 years of his career and will not report if claimed somewhere. He prefers not to play. There definitely is interest. He has this season remaining on his current contract at a $6.5 million cap hit, but only $4 million in cash still do after being paid a sign in bonus on July 1. From the Ducks perspective, it makes sense, even if you shouldn't want it to happen. Like I like Chris Crider with the Ducks. He helped that power play a lot, but they have $9 million in cap space and they still have to sign Cutter Goatier. So someone asked to go and I think everybody assumed it would be Alex Kalorn, or that it could be Frank Fattrano, someone in there. I know that Crider was a name thrown around, but like, I don't wanna keep Crider if I were the Ducks. So from the Ducks perspective, stop me if you've heard this before, they're gonna be worse this season. Like, that sucks. - It does suck and I guess this is an easy, clean breakup, I suppose. I'm sure they probably would have liked something for him in return, but I don't know, it's kind of a bummer. It's just like the last, hopefully last domino to fall as a result of the Leo negotiations, but we all knew something was coming and this appears to be it. The heading east is interesting. I wonder who, I mean, famously Boston guy, I don't know, Bruins could make that work, Detroit. - Famously the flyers fancy themselves some ducks forwards. - That is true. - Maybe this was a long con. - This was the flyers roundabout way of ensuring that they could get Chris Crider. - Yeah, this was the master plan from Danny Breer. He destroyed the salary cap permanently, but he's gonna get Chris Crider for nothing. And that's $6.5 million cap hit, only $4 million in real money, owner's gonna be happy. They're building that new arena, every penny counts. This is dogged work, savvy work by Danny Breer. - I don't, I don't think that the flyers need another out of second and a half flying wing. - I really don't. I mean, could go back to New York. That'd be boring as hell and kind of depressing, but I know the most of the rangers, I think it's so fucking boring. - I don't know, it's interesting. I think I still think Chris Crider has some stuff to give. - Yeah. - And is a nice veteran presence that will probably be a welcome addition to a lot of teams on the East Coast. - Meanwhile, Adam Phantilly remains unsigned. He's an understricted free agent for the Columbus Blue Jackets, who selected him third overall in the 2024 NHL draft. And Blue Jackets have $12.6 million in cap space. At the beginning of this offseason, AFP Analytics projected his contract, Adam Phantilly's, to be two times 6.3 or eight times 10. Since then, Conor Bedard has signed for five times 15. That's the first overall pick in that draft. And Leo Carlson, the second overall pick in that draft has signed for five times $18 million. So it's wild to think that 12.6 isn't gonna be enough to sign Adam Phantilly, whom we love, but we are in a different world right now. Yesterday's price is not today's. - Certainly not. And I feel like this one has flown under the radar for like the entire summer. Even this week, when I saw that he just skipped the team's pre-camp golf outing. - Which, good behavior. - Long Grindr's not golfers. - I mean, the rest of the team is there. - They're not grinders. - That one, like to me, first sent up a signal of panic 'cause it just seems like a thing that you'd want all your players going to, especially when, there is, it sounds like there is confidence that he's going to sign before camp. So why not just show up, play some golf that your owner is very exclusive golf club. - Yes, Sean, can you throw that tweet back up? from Aaron Portsline, because the details are important. Adam Pantilly, who remains an unsigned restricted free agent, just eight days from the start of training camp, did not take part in the Blue Jackets annual pre-camp golf outing today at Club Owner John P. McConnell's exclusive golf club, Double Eagle. You're invited to your name. Owners exclusive golf club. And you wouldn't, I mean, I wouldn't go. And you say, fuck off. I'd say can we play like 11 holes? Maybe Fantilly's just a man of the people. He's like, I'm not playing at your exclusive club. Why don't you let why don't you let everybody play? Yeah, we're supposed to be a blue collar team. Yep, it's the Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman, when they were together, they wouldn't get married until everybody could get married. Nice. This is a heroes. I'm not playing. And then now neither one of them is made to each other. Yeah, I was going to say I think they're maybe they just want to get married. Yeah, that was a nice excuse. Dude, Janela Brock's, you just do whatever you want to say it's for moral reasons. But maybe he's like, I'm not going to this golf club until my brothers and sisters can go. Yeah, I think that's a, it's a very brave stance by Adam Fantilly. Chats says Fantilly seems like more of a mini golf guy. No, Fantilly does strike me as someone who likes to golf. Big time. He's got a lot of things on your tea player. Yeah, yeah, I think you could probably count on one hand, the percentage of golf hockey players that like don't really enjoy golf. I mean, they should prefer hockey. Shut up and stick handle. That's what I say. I keyed, I keyed. Yeah, the blue jacket situation, whether or not they sign Fantilly is going to be really interesting heading towards the season. Because like, there's still the Marchanko of it all. This team gives me a certain level of discomfort. As they approach the season, because it just feels like something might be bubbling under the surface there. Why, like bubbling like bad? Yeah, I mean, you've got like Marchanko. We're in squads. I don't think you're going to have to worry too much about Fantilly once he signs a deal, but hey, maybe he signs like a three year deal. And then you're like, well, maybe he doesn't want to be there long term. Maybe he's just trying to carry himself to free agency or whatever. I don't know. The blue jackets are in a weird place, man. And the 12.6 million that they have on the cap right now keep going back to. They probably wish they weren't wearing that Charlie coil shirt. Yes. Ken Johnson's still there. Although, I mean, they are awesome down the middle. Fantilly Monahan coil cylinder. That is that is strong, strong, strong, and they're like offensive. They've got a really good forward group. I mean, they've been close, like that's the thing. They've been close the past couple of years. It just hasn't really come through. And we've seen that several other places across the league that just because you're close doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to happen. I did see a very, very funny quote. I think it was from Thomas Shabbat about the Brady Kachak stuff. He was talking this week, and he was like, you know, we only want players that want to be here. And if you don't want to be here, good riddance, it's just a shame because I feel like we've been pretty close to making playoffs. Yeah. When they made the playoffs into the class two seasons. Yeah. They made the playoffs last year. Didn't they make the way? Yeah. They lost to the flyers. The, are they loose the penguins? Yeah. Because remember, remember. No, no, no, no. The flyers beat the penguins in the first round. Then played the didn't Ottawa make the playoffs because didn't Brady Kachak fight the, as soon as they, they started. Nick Cuslin. Yeah. No, the, the sense played Caroline in the first round. It was right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was all the fuck. The truck. Brady Kachak fought somebody like right off the opening draw. And we were like, what are you doing? You're starting to play off one by taking your best player up to eight from five minutes. It was stall. Yeah. Oh. Yeah. That's how forgettable the, the senators play off runs have been, but they have in fact made the playoffs in each of the past two seasons and like their own players are forgetting. Hmm. I don't know what the blue jackets do. I mean, you talked about a shorter deal. If it is, so he's got three years of service time, four more years would take him to unrestricted free agency. So I'd be afraid of doing something like that. But if you're trying to sign them long term, if Bedard is 15 and I mean, I think that Bedard is better than Phantilly though. So like if could you do like seven times 15, something like that, I don't know what he wants. I know that Freben says that they're, they're not at the, the price, but that they really think they're, I don't think it's assuming that he wants more than 12.6 million. Which he should. Yeah. I mean, but if it's 12.6 million dollars, I don't even think you can do five. Right. It's going to be, they're going to have to shed somebody and it would be brutal if they're like, ah, well, we're going to free up some money if we trade Karl Marchenko for picks because the last thing they should want to do is trade anybody for picks or prospects. That's what I'm saying. Like they just got to wish that they did not have that Charlie, I mean, I guess it's hard to say that they don't want that Charlie coil deal when they were the ones who gave it out like a couple of months ago, but I will say Charlie coil deal didn't not aging so horribly, but we were at the point where we were wondering if he was like out of the league. So when he gets six, it's six by six, right? Oh, no, we didn't think he was out of the league yet a good year last year, not like out of the league. But like the blue jackets as they did with Ivan Provarov, they resigned their guys for too much money. Yeah. No, I hate the coil contract and everything, but I'm saying like out of the league strong, but like I still, I thought that like he had a couple more years left in him for it. So for him to get a six year deal is shocking $6 million, though, for a third line center. Quite nice these days. I mean, your fucking Bruins are paying a third line ish center $7.2 million a year, talking about razor man, razor man. And then the razor man is going to be a top six player, baby. Oh, okay. And I really, I really do like that bet. It's out of character for the Bruins, but the phrasier mitten deal, I really like because like he had like 30 points last year, but given where we're at, I think it signals that one that they like really, really like the player, which we obviously kind of felt that, but his production is going to pop. If he can score on like 25% of the chances that he had last year, like 25% more, like he can score 20, 25 goals a year. Chats says, why don't you just give Phantilly a one year deal and revisit it next year? I hate the idea of doing that because the cap is going to keep going up. And then, all right, then you lock him into something and it's going to be a bonkers price. I think the Blue Jackets should know by now that Phantilly is their number one center of the next half of many years. Also, when can he be off or she did? He can be off or she didn't know. Oh, he can. Yeah. I believe so. Yeah. I thought that there was, I thought he was one of the guys that could not know. I mean, he, I mean, he's played three years, he, I think he can be, okay, man, I think because I know that after the Carlson thing, there was talk of like, do they turn around and do it to Phantilly and they were like, no, we're not going there. Man, sign your guys. We've set up for, you got to get a coach, you got a coach, get a contract done for your top players, Blue Jackets. I appreciate you looking out for Charlie Coil first, but you got to have this guy in camp. Now for the other signing, Oilers today announced they have signed forward Alex Formington. Alex Formington is a Canadian man, believes from Barry. He is one of the hockey Canada five, one of the players that was tried for and acquitted of sexual assault charges over an incident from what year it always is a 2019, something like that. Sure. I forget the year. Apologies. But I'll remember it soon because now we get to relitigate this thing for the four billionth time, real smart Oilers. He has been playing in the Swiss league, he played for the senators, very, very speedy for 2018, very, very speedy forward who had a good year in his final year with the senators in 2022, I want to say, and then couldn't agree on a contract with the senators. So I went and played in the Swiss league, which is wild to me. But he has been playing over there, obviously the trial, the hockey Canada of it all, an independent panel determined that he did not breach hockey Canada's conduct policy to the extent that the other four did. He was the only one of the five that was reinstated when hockey Canada updated its suspensions for the players last month. I would love to not relit a gate. the hockey Canada thing for the millions of time. I think you know where all three of us stand on that. And this is going to be maybe a little heartless. And I think that we should all want to be nice to each other and do the right thing. I don't care that he was found to, that he was found to not be in the same camp as the other four. I don't believe in signing a depth player with that many red flags. And if that's unfair to him, I'm sorry, but I think that when you take risks in signing players, which isn't a good thing, like morally, that's not good, that like the penairons of the league will keep getting money because they're great players. But like, this just is how it works. Right, smart teams, teams will weigh the pros and cons of players with red flags. And I personally don't believe in doing that for a player who I think will be a bottom-sixer and penalty killer. Yeah, I mean, like teams will always and always have found ways to justify and jump through hoops to say like where we think that we can rehabilitate this guy. And it's really, it comes down to winning games and just putting together the best team. And I just think that when you got a situation like this, it makes certainly way less sense for a bottom of the roster player or a player that's just going to be a depth piece. But at the same time, the oilers have shown that time and time again, they don't give a fuck. They do not give a fuck, especially at this juncture. Like they did not give a fuck when they went out and hired Mike Babcock. Somebody that like nobody in hockey had thought about Mike Babcock for years because they just assumed he had already gotten his second chance. He's not coming back in the league. We haven't, we haven't heard that name in forever. And the oilers earn a position where they're so desperate to win and so desperate to make noise that they will just think, quote unquote, outside the box and outside the lines. And they'll make these swings. And so like, if it makes sense, it makes sense that it's the oilers. Can I ask a question? I want Sean Slott's on this too. But I want to reiterate a question that young Grady asked on our group chat and has been bouncing around Twitter a lot. Why is, and it's a one year, $850,000 contract. Why isn't this a PTO, a professional tryout, which is where you bring them into camp, see what he looks like, see how he handles a bunch of things because like, I've already seen it. Like a minute after they announced this, I saw like quote tweets and everything of like rapist. Your organization doesn't care about rape. Like this word plastered everywhere. And I'm like, why did you welcome that? Why, like you know that with anything involving any of these five players, they are going to be the loudest, most passionate. No one's having discussions over this. Like people are fucking mad that this happened that players like Carter Hart were basically welcomed back, shall we say, given like redemption arcs and everything. You don't need to do that. You don't need to, and I'm not saying that they're like giving him a redemption arc or saying like, who knows if they'll put out whatever statement. But like you're now putting all of this attention on you when don't you already have enough attention for doing risky and ill-advised things? Like do you need to add in the hockey Canada five to this batch of Mike Babcock questions? And like it's a different case, but like the Will Connor McDavid stay questions. Like you've already got so much of a circus. Why would you bring in someone attached to the most divisive, and it shouldn't be divisive, but like the most divisive topic in hockey the last however many years? Yeah, I mean like at a certain point it feels like leaning into it. And I don't know if that's really where you want your team to be leaning into. But like at the end of the day I will say I only hope that they handle it exponentially better than the way that the Vegas Golden Knights have handled it with card heart because we talked about it during the playoff run is that like at every step the Vegas Golden Knights have done like the wrong thing in making you feel at least a tiny bit better about this guy being back in the league because they've protected him in like the weirdest ways from any media scrutiny. They've shielded him from having to answer to any of the things that he said he was going to work on about himself when he reentered the league. So like at the end of the day, at the very minimum, I hope that the oilers encourage and allow this kid to like stand on like whatever platform he is about like kind of setting himself up to, I don't know, I don't want to say like redemption but like actually make you feel a tiny bit better about him getting another chance. Yeah, like feel like there's growth, there's contrition, there's Jesus like embarrassment. Like anything that shows any sort of remorse for the whole fucking thing happening. And again, like I don't want to relitigate this because like my takeaway from this is that they sign a player with significant red flags that I do not think is worth signing when they have those red flags. Like everyone can have a different take on that or whatever but I go to something that Shayna Goldman says a lot which is like being in the NHL is, and staying in the NHL is a privilege. So when players who have fucked up, broken the law, done whatever, like cheated in any sort of way, when they're given that second chance and this is his second chance, I don't think it should just be yeah, while I'm back and all that shit's behind me. So like, I don't know, but now this is work that falls to the Oilers and Alex Formington to show that they don't take what happened in 2018 lightly. And yesterday that was not a thing that was on the Oilers plate. That was not something that we had to worry about with the Ebb and Tenoilers. And like, not for nothing, the Carter Hard thing surrounded the Oilers for so long as they looked for a gold tender and it looked like they kind of dodged a bullet in avoiding that whole thing by saying now we're good or off those. Yeah, I saw someone, sorry to cut you off, I saw someone that was like, you know what? Like I was proud to be an Oilers fan when they didn't sign Carter Hard because it made so much sense for hockey reasons to sign him. And it's, I don't want to say it's noble or whatever, but to say like, hey, you know what? Someone else wants to sign him, that's their prerogative. We're sitting this one out. We're not comfortable with that. Like good for you because you will have a lot of fans saying, hey, like there's a goal to use cheap sign them. So like, I don't know, like standing on what you believe in is a good thing. And I think that some Oilers fans probably because they hate the Golden Knights. We're like, yeah, we're noble, they're not. And now these fans are going to have to reckon with, why is this guy on my team? Sean, what do you think of this? I mean, you've both said all of it. I mean, I think we've all been on the same page that like, like obviously none of us are going to know what happened for sure, but the one thing that has been pretty clear from like all of these guys is that they have made some like massive mistakes in judgment at points in their lives. Like they, they have massive clear character flaws. And so to do something like this, for like you said, for a player who like, like Pete said, to a certain extent, it seems like they're leaning into it. Because if you didn't have any of this and they sign this guy, you would be like, why are they signing this guy? He doesn't seem like he is good enough to be in the NHL point blank. So no, I don't want to be intrigued. He's so fucking fast, dude. Cool. I, I sure all that speed got him half a point of game in Switzerland or Sweden, half a point of game. Like when Jesse Pooley RV was like doubling his point, a square. Yeah, that's just that part. Like I looked at the, the stat sheet and that made me laugh. Like Jesse Pooley RV, absolutely point-mogging Alex form. But we've talked about this. Jesse Pooley RV, like actually is awesome at hockey. And that's not me being an oiler's guy. Jesse Pooley RV rocks on hockey and I think just can't do it. Like doesn't want to do it in the NHL. I also forgot about this two years ago. Alex Formington said he was quitting hockey and going to work in construction. Oh, right. That was Alex Formington. Yeah, he straight up said, I'm done with hockey, which like, I mean, understandable to a certain extent when all that shit. was going on. Like, obviously, it would, it would, you know, make sense that somebody would come to that conclusion, be like, I'm just going to step away from all this and I'll just go work construction. But now back in the NHL, like, did not anticipate that happening at all. Yeah. Also, we brought this up before in our group text. There was some talk about like, man, why do they keep doing this to McDavid? Why do they hire him? Like, Babcock, why do they like, oh, man, McDavid's going to have to answer for all these things? There's one big problem with that. And you're, yeah, give it to me. You're fucking crazy if you don't think that that Connor McDavid is signing off on this stuff. Like, I don't know what to tell you. Obviously, the Mike Babcock thing broke our brains for like, and we asked the question, ongoing, why would they want this guy? But like, part of the they is Connor McDavid. The, the oilers are not hiring an extremely controversial head coach without the blessing of the player that they're trying to keep around long term in the guy that they're trying to build around. They're not, I can't imagine a world in which the oilers are signing one of the hockey Canada five and not getting Connor McDavid to sign off on it. Yeah. And our friend Evan said he was like, so you think that McDavid is saying, go get me the fucking 20, the guy who's 23rd and Swiss league points. And I'm like, no, but if they're saying, like, hey, remember Alex Formington, what do you think of him? We're thinking of signing him. You think it's worth it or whatever? I don't know if these things are happening. But for a team that is desperately trying to keep Connor McDavid, you think they would fucking sign a guy if they thought they would sign a guy who I still don't understand really why they signed him hockey reasons. He's just like not good enough to make up for the red flags. Like two or three weeks ago, we were talking about the oil, there's like having too many forwards. Yeah. Well, did the mats of oil injury force them to sign Alex Formington discuss? No. I will tell you what I won't discuss that either. Yeah, I'm, I'm baffled by it. I don't like it. I'm not going to scream and reliticate the hockey Canada five. And I know that there's people who are going to do that. They're going to say, Hey, this is what happened in the case. This is what happened or whatever. Like I made sure to spell it out. The independent investigator and everything and that they ruled that he didn't do what was done to the extent of whatever. I know all that. And I don't care. I don't think it was worth signing him. So that's my piece. I just, I feel like you and so many other oilers fans just have to be pretty exhausted at this point in time. And like the start of hockey season will be a relief in the sense that like you just get to watch hockey instead of deal with all this shit. There has been a very, very roller coaster past couple of seasons for the oilers. Because it for any off season. God damn it. I was looking at my stuff and my jerseys and everything. I'm like, I'm just going to fucking be a predator's fan or something. Well, no one will ever pay a dollar. No, no, no, no one will love for care about my hockey team. I don't have to answer for anything. I'll just and I say that endearingly to Fred's fans. Like you kids know how to throw a party. But I'm just going to go and live in Nashville and be in, I mean, I yesterday friends were texting. They were like, Yo, DJ, are you going to like demand your bachelor party be in Edmonton? And I was like, maybe today, I don't have a bachelor party to plan today. That's a good news. That's right. Although shout out you last couple of weeks, last week you referred to Julia as my wife. And I just didn't care. And young Gritty, the archiving genius found an episode in which you announced that I got engaged just randomly. I don't know why I did that. Watching that back is like the funniest fucking thing you've ever done. I don't know why I did it was derogatorally like that's something I would do where it's like that. That doesn't make any sense. And it's not funny. And it just absolutely puts you in a blender. Yeah, like for like the last, it was like the last 10 seconds. I made someone uncomfortable for no. Yeah. Yeah. And then I just ended the show and I was like, I don't know what he's fucking talking about. I'm not engaged. Bye. On positive oilers news. I don't know if anybody wants that right now, but we got it last night. You sent a screenshot of Ike Howard's Instagram. Oh, yeah. And Leon dry so little commented on like Ike Howard's Instagram and just said like, you're one hell of a kid. Which like it was on like that kind of like gentlemanly comment on Instagram on a like 23 year olds summer dump, summer photo dump. Like it wasn't even like a photo of Ike Howard announcing a charity initiative or something. It was just like a summer photo dump. And Leon was like, damn, you're one hell of a kid. You're a heck of a kid. He said a heck of a kid. Even more wholesome. Write your no apostrophe though. He doesn't fucking need a pot. The guy doesn't talk. The guy tucks in his jersey. You think he's falling rules? I'll tell you what, if I was like 23 years old and Leon fucking dry, so I told me that I was a heck of a kid. Ain't nobody telling me shit for like the next calendar year. I'd ride high off of that at least until the all star break. So I saw that sent it to you boys and said the comment, Lord, forgive me, I'm buying Ike stocks. What if they signed Alex Formington so they can trade Ike Howard for Conor Hellabuck? I just, I feel compelled any dumb shot I have in my mind to just fucking take now because we've been right on so many of them. What if Ike Howard is part of a Conor Hellabuck deal? Which by the way, that that would make the oilers less likeable too. The oilers got Hellabuck. People would be annoyed with that too. I mean, I also think that the team that would look the worst coming out of that would be Winnipeg because knowing the package that Buffalo had on the table at the draft would have blown out whatever the oilers were offering. Well, Ike stocks are up. You have to remember, the undryside all has complimented him. He did not compliment the fourth. What was it? Oh, but the, the, the sabers want to do a pick swap though. Because people were like the sabers had the fourth overall pick on the table. I think it was like Hellabuck and four, or I'm sorry, four, or a Hellabuck in eight, which if I were especially in that draft, which turns out everyone fucking hated all those kids. It was four. I think it was four, 20 and a player. Yeah. That would be insane. I don't know. Four picks and a bad draft. They did, they fucking traded Michael Kessler. I'm going to pick swap. Shout out. Yep. That is not Conor Hellabuck. Shout out the sharks defense and shout out. You hear what Chang Peng said? I know. He was on a podcast and he was like, I'm going to say it. I don't know why anyone's excited about the oilers. I'm looking at their defense. It's all a bunch of guys who used to be on the sharks defense. Great, great, great point. Like when we were talking about them being historically bad on defense, and now the oilers defense is like Walman, uh, yeah, but like we knew like Walm. If it was like a good part, if the sharks had Walman last year, they would have been, they probably would have made the playoffs. Yeah. I, I, Walman's good. I do a big Jake Walman year. I, I think that's, I respect to Chang Peng, but I think that that is very, uh, that is a unfair characterization. I think it's funny though. It's funny, but it's an unfair characterization. You're like, everyone said that defense was so bad. Now, uh, Muck Madoulin and Walman, anybody else on there? No, but, oh, Ty Emerson. God. I think that shit's pretty cool. Okay. So that's the, uh, oilers news. The mediator is happening right now in Vegas. Every year this happens and I say, ah, fuck, we should have tried to go to that. I think we tried once and they were like, absolutely not. But I think we, we might got it like that. We were, we were represented last year, Tage Thompson War Hat. Oh, Tage Thompson War Hat, um, shout out. One of the good ones. Yeah. Yeah. What Thompson wears, the right shade of a Thompson, uh, showed a, um, a, a dynamic range and hats. Yeah. At the NHL media to our last year. Some, some red. Yeah. Uh, uh, Lazz is there. He's always there. Yeah. That's where he does his little, like, he fucking believably. Yeah. The slowest fucking skating I've ever seen from someone who works in hockey. Yeah, but the skating is secondary. What? Why the yapping? Yeah. The yapping is good. I really like the yapping and those things. The yapping would really take a hit if they were skating much faster. Oh, no. Like I, I just think that's like the fastest. I've talked to Johnny about this. He's saying he's skating his hardest. Okay. Like hopping and puffing, I believe were his words to keep up. And he's just a really slow skater, which like, I love hockey. I love people getting into skating and everything and that's really cool for Johnny. But it's got to get faster. I have told him this. I'm like, yo, we're going to steal your idea and just do it faster. We're going to do it like adults. I like that idea. Yeah. It's really good. Uh, the most important thing that's happening at the media tour is they're taking pictures. We have, uh, Sean, do you have the picture I don't know why you're wearing that to the media tour, my guy, but you got bigger fish to fry. I mean, that's like a, that's say, uh, first day of eighth grade kind of fit. I did see John Butchagross, who is having a great run right now, uh, and is making nobody online mad at him, shout out our guy. We stand with, uh, said, like, I talked to Connor McDavid, watch out everybody, and I was like fuck up. Yeah. Yeah. What was the reasoning at the, his reasoning for like being like, the oilers are trouble this year. It was very funny. Uh, let me see. I'm trying to find the tweak because it was, um, yeah, at any show player, a media tour all week, one player from each team just did some stuff with Connor McDavid. I've never seen him this relax, comfortable and engaging. He asked me a bunch of college hockey questions. Tanned, looks great, beard tight, sounds great, watch out NHL. It's a comfortable looking shirt. We got to ask the question though, John Butchagross, uh, this week has confirmed that certain places are using his voice, uh, with AI technology. Maybe that tweet was AI. Yes. Who really tweeted it? That tweet's going to kill us by the end of the decade, by the way. I did see that. Did you see that thread? Yes. Not my favorite. Nope. Certainly not. And I try not to like hit the panic button every time I log on to Twitter and see some doomsday shit, but certainly not amazing when somebody's like, hey, I just quit, quit this job at the, the people killing AI factory. I think they're like 10 years away from completion. Not really what you want to hear. I think he's saying they're like three years away from completion. He's like within 10 years, like he said by the end of the decade, he said by the, he said, uh, like, wait, so when you say like, if you, if you declare something by within like the next decade or by the end of the decade, at a certain point in the next decade, it's 10 years starting now. But if you say by the end of the decade, I would think it means by the end of the current decade you're in. Sean, could we get a ruling? I would, yeah. It seems fair. That's how I would probably parse it. Well, you say the end of the century and be in 100 years from now, you'd mean what? 74 years from now? I don't know. I feel like when you say, yeah, I don't know, I took it as within 10 years, I mean, it's very possible. That's what they meant. But if we are, it's kind of like the, the couple and few thing, which like, people kind of use them, however they want. But in my mind, couple is two and few is three. Right. I, I'd rather it be, I'd rather 10 more years. Yeah. So maybe you got a couple of years of marriage and even says just joined what did I miss? We're talking about the collapse of civilization and like the next two to 10 years and we feel good about it. It scares me. It scares me. Twitter did the cool thing yesterday when I like, engage that thread and I read it. I then went back to my homepage and it was just that tweet or that, that thread being quoted by like a lot of other people in the AI world just being like, yeah, this is true. Yeah. Well, these persons like former boss or whatever was like, hi, I'd like to help for sure 10% chance I would say that it kills us all, which, I don't know, you don't come here to hear that. On the social media, you know, I think you said this at the time because they rang a bell when I was experiencing it yesterday. When you announced on Instagram that you got engaged, did you pick up a lot of followers? I don't remember, but that sounds right. Why? How does that happen? Dude, I, every once in a while, I'll log on to Instagram and get like seven new followers and it's quite possibly the scariest experience of being on the internet. Right. Because it's why. Yeah. It's why. Like, I don't understand Instagram or it's algorithm or how people get found or whatever, but when I get new followers, it scares the fuck out of me. Yeah. And basically, attention is a positively horrifying thing. Okay. Other pictures taken. This is the real fun thing. The, Sean, do you have the like weird pyramid light thing that you got some players there? You got Sid. You got a goal coffee old. You got who's that? Oh, that's McDavid in the middle to hell of a shirt. I couldn't say. I'm sure. Yeah. Because of that. Pete, does this ring a bell for you? Sean, do you have something? Are you good when I set it up? Okay. Pete, does this, does this aesthetic remind you of anything? Yeah. Getting kidnapped by aliens. Well, at least they'll take you somewhere where AI isn't going to kill you. I mean, I don't know. The aliens probably have AI. Okay. I see this and I feel that I am looking at the music video for Jennifer Lopez is waiting for tonight. Hit me, Sean. This is what that is. Apologies if you have epilepsy. Yeah. Also, this is a precursor to tape McCray videos, although they, the shots are no longer. Yeah. But I feel like that, that could be a tie to a million different things. Just like those laser. Yeah. That's every NHL pregame intro these days. Oh, is it? Yeah. I mean, even TD Gardens doing that now where they got like that laser projection across the ice. Oh, right. Yeah. So, yeah. I'll tell you what, you can make fun of it all you want. It's easy to make fun of, but I think that shit's cool. Those photos. Those laser pictures? Yeah. Sean, throw up what Pete said is cool. I mean, it makes no sense, but that's, those are cool. I mean, I, I don't get it, but it's better than just fucking like standard picture day fair. Um, yes and no. I mean, there's, there's more, there's more styles of photos and all the other ones are boring. These ones are at least worth talking about. They're funny. It looks like, um, it, uh, the one behind Sydney Crosby has some like sonogram energy, though. Uh, yeah. I mean, yeah. There's a lot going. Yeah. I don't know. What is going on? But I think it's just like smoke being blown in the air and the lights hitting it. Okay. Yeah. Does look like he's standing in front of somebody's baby announcement. Yeah. I'm not mad about it. I just think that, uh, as usual, when you try to get certain players who aren't about that life in that type of setting, the results are visually funny. I mean, we, we always stand on, on the platform of just, you know, take, take weird swings. Yeah. They took a weird swing. I don't understand it. But it's cool. And that'll be, uh, what's most memorable, hopefully, about this, this year's media tour. You know what? I understand. Actually, the most memorable thing about this year's media tour might be a Matthew Schafer's crippling hair gel addiction. Oh, what else? No. He got, he, like, overdosed on hair gel. Oh, no. It's, I think he's been living with, with Matt Martin. Yeah. A bit too much. So as, like, has figured it out, like, he's got good style, good hair. There's been a point where I think that he's really overdone the hair gel. Maybe it's just the long island rubbing off on him, but he, like, bucket of hair gel and, like, slick it back. Yikes. Okay. We're going to get to more visuals that are even worse than a minute. But first, gotta tell you about prize picks, it's a scorching sports summer. And you can make all your picks on prize picks. Games, basketball and baseball are heating up and every football preseason game is pretty much wrapped up by now because we're getting ready to begin the season tonight. And with big tennis slams and major golf tournaments happening, there's no better place for your summer sports picks than prize picks, America's number one sports picks app. You know, let me see, blah, blah. I'm like weezing, can't really breathe when I talk. That was one of my worst reads yet, but you know what? We stick around because in future episodes, there'll be worse, there'll be better. Right. Who knows? You want a real disaster though? How about NHL 27? Before we get to that, there is like a slightly slight bit of not breaking news, but rumors, reports, whatever. According to Michael Russo. I see I'm taking this at a blind faith because somebody posted an audio clip of Rousseau doing radio and Talking about Dylan Larkin says quote Dylan Larkin is the one calling the shots He wants to be here talking about Minnesota that to me is what it comes down to and it's gonna be really fast The name because he's the captain of the team and he's not taking part in captain's practice right now Well Captain's don't have to be a captain's practice famously but What about assistant captain's practice That's true. I need that. I will but a fanatics Jersey with a Dylan Larkin a on it will go so crazy screen scene Hell yeah brother. Uh, yeah NHL 27 came out last week and if you've been paying attention at all during this like rollout process People are underwhelmed to begin with we talked about it a little bit Not too many new features in this game most of which are quote-unquote new because you've seen them before Whether it's the gameplay presentation stuff whether it's the playbook stuff that has kind of existed in the game for quite some time nothing really Totally new with this year's release and people are fed up and That sort of anger and bitterness towards the game has not gone away at all in the first week of life because people are just constantly sharing photos of the face scans and how terrible they look They're sharing gameplay clips that are just totally glitchy and broken and Then I think like the cherry on top of the shit sandwich this week was John Booch grass going on a podcast and confirming that excitedly. Yeah, like thought that people would be Really cool with it and thought that it would be a awesome Touch that they used his voice for AI and inserted AI lines in the game Which like that to me at this point in time in the AI bubble or Boom whatever you want to call it is that there are still people trotting that shit out like Not reading the room not reading How much of a revolution there is against AI and just Being totally enamored by it. Yeah being like hey, how cool is this yeah, so uh Where do you want to go first because all of those things are I think worth getting into But I certainly had the most fun just looking at all the face scans. Yeah, the the face scans and you probably already saw that the um Who is it Michael D. Pietro's face looks Very similar to mine and uh, I don't look like Michael D. Pietro It's not yet not yet, but a lot of these faces just like They're accurately something else They like well some of them look like faces they look like yeah a lot of them look like people I will say that they look like people they just don't look like the people that they're supposed to be that's the problem Mason Lowry is the one that just doesn't look like anything. I mean, you know, my god, that's crazy That is I'm gonna say I don't know how you could say that these things look like people I mean, that looks like something like a horror movie that one obviously is Horrifying there are some I will give them The tiniest crumb of credit. There are some Pretty good face scans like there. Yeah some of Krazby of getting mars. Yeah Not all the stars Ryan Leonard's was great. I saw his There Tom Wilson looked awesome But far too many just look nothing like their counterparts. Do we have a Do we have Seth Jarvis because Seth Jarvis is isn't totally far off From Seth Jarvis But it definitely looks more like Nick Mullen it looks like Nick Mullen and also a little bit like Shoot, I can't think of the actor, but it's he looks like somebody who's not Seth Jarvis Uh, there's a lot of bad ones film group hours is outrageous Like when I said a lot of them look like people that's not one of them. He does not look like a person face there Looks like it was like whittled out of wood Uh, do we have do we have hate and flurry because That looks like the girl from the last of us. Yeah, I was gonna say that's that's Bella Ramsey. Yes, that is definitely Bella Ramsey That's not even close to kale flurry But One I saw people going crazy over was Will Smith. It's got a Will Smith I honestly didn't think that Will Smith was terrible obviously the hair sucks there But you all you have to consider that you're gonna be wearing helmets on most of these. Yep. So like I bet Will Smith doesn't look Totally terrible in the game No, that like that's all laughable to me. That's not shocking Uh Cole Koffield looks he looks like Florence Poo in this Kind of yeah Yeah It is not good He that's that you know what I like that's because he like has a little Tinge of Florence Poo I don't I don't really see it in the picture. I definitely Face scan for sure he goes from maybe like 3% to 26 but Can we look at uh can we look at Cole Koffield because he looks violently ill in his Yeah, the promise so many of these look like zombies like it looks like it looks like kale flurries character would kill Cole Koffield's character in the last of us. Yeah That is not good. Um, oh yeah, we gotta we gotta go to stew Skinner. Yeah, I was gonna say I thought you're gonna forget this one Oh His head is so small it's so narrow What what the Christ and they gave him They gave him they gave him butthole lips. They gave him It also seems like they gave him some sort of like cancerous situation of the mouth Yeah, it's mouth is very like shriveled up. Yeah What's crazy is that like you know back in the day They I don't know if they still allow you to do this, but they allow you to like Adjust individual sliders to create certain faces I guarantee you I could do a better job of creating a lot of those players Myself by hand artisanal face scans if you if you will like That's unacceptable chat says stew Skinner looked like they put him through a pasta maker I mean go back to stew. I mean just the the width of the mustache alone How do you get that as wrong as you got it somebody said they looks like it looks like they gave Zach Hyman a mustache I mean oh doesn't look like Zach Hyman, but it looks more like Zach Hyman than it does to Skinner. I mean the face shape and the Like I feel like there's like three hairstyles they have for all these players. Yeah, and I don't know if you've seen any of the black players Is pretty problematic that they keep giving them all. Oh, I do want to show this I do want to say this before we show them someone commented on our post that showed the The Michael D. Pietro headshot next to mine And it's like obviously I look nothing like Michael D. Pietro and his face scan looks like me for some reason someone commented They were like they did players of color dirty and I was like I would expect they did They did everybody yeah, they got right. I have yet to see one of these that isn't quite fucking bad So yeah, I imagine they did fucking horrible on They let alone players of color. It the players of color make it look like they tried on these Which might not be a good thing. No Well, let's see. They just straight up gate like they gave like somebody that looks like me fucking the The sunny Milano here. Yeah, that's that's they gave this sunny Milano there. Yeah, and like sunny Milano hair Applies almost exclusively to sunny Milano. Yeah, so when you just like assign it to a black player It's it's horrible. It's such bad behavior. And then the opposite spectrum of that was that Uh, Jordan Harris is like the palace player in the entire game. Yes Like he's obviously white basically. He's not like uh, he's he's birectional. He's not dark skin, but he Like the palace skin. I have ever seen the video. It was like blindingly white. It was insane. Do you have any of the players of color? No I have one more that he wanted to save to last. Yeah, so I did one. We are very in the lead because me laugh I'll laugh this one is so bad That it straight up looks like it is out of like NHL 2k5 Go ahead Sean hit us with John Tavarez. That is just like not even Close to looking like a real person. I almost don't believe that it's real like It doesn't look Yeah, like it doesn't look anything It doesn't it looks bad in a way that's completely different from the way that all the other ones are bad Right like like I said a lot of the other players look like real people I think that Mason lore is an exception to that rule because he looks like a horrifying Sleep paralysis demon but This does not look like a real person whatsoever. It straight up looks like a video game character from 20 years ago. Yeah. No, I was either. No ambulance. That's the problem. Yeah. If they put the ambulance, we'd save him from this embarrassment. Yeah. The ambulance is just like a thing that keeps him looking like human. And if you take the ambulance off, he reverts back to his like original alien form. To Sean's point earlier, though, I am thinking about NHL 27 more than I have ever thought about any NHL video game in the last year. There is a part of me that that, but I for the long time, I thought Pete was being a little dramatic. I was like, like, it's a video game, man. Like, I'm going to play it. I want the roster update. After this weekend, I was fully like, I genuinely don't think I could enjoy playing it. Like, I think I would, it would cause a moral conundrum within me that would prevent me from enjoying playing the video game, which I always play shitty video games. Like, I played NHL last year and I enjoy it. Like, I played 2K sometimes. And that's like most, like, the worst experience in the history of video games. Really? Wait, 2K is bad. 2K playing 2K online is just that can be a downright awful experience because it's a very, a very team dependent game. You need people to pass the ball sometimes and not miss shots. But that's not the fault. That's not the fault of the game. And like, the. No, it is. It is. It is. It is kind of like, I think anytime you sign up to play a game online, relying on other people, then you're signing up for, to be griefed and you're signing up for a bad time to a certain extent. Definitely. But it doesn't change the fact that it's not necessarily an enjoyable experience. But there are other things about the game that I think are, are the developers fault. Ronnie 2K basically can't go out in public. He gets harassed every time he does. Oh, yeah, whatever to that guy. I remember him. Yeah, but still running 2K. I mean, like 2K tries. Like, they at least try my, my, my, big thing with the NHL is that it has fallen so embarrassingly behind every other sports title. And it feels like they don't try. And you can give me the, well, they've got a small development team. It's hard for them to keep up. Well, then the answer there and the pressure there should be applied to EA sports, a gigantic company worth millions and millions and millions of dollars to provide more support to a platform and a title that a lot of people care about. Yeah, maybe NHL's fan base is smaller than a Madden or college football or a football club or even like if you want to compare to 2K, whatever, people still care about this video game. They still pay $60, $70, $80 a year to get the game. And by not giving them more resources to improve on the game, you're spitting in the faces of the people that buy it year after a year and saying that you don't really care. And you really like only are supporting your bottom line. You really don't have a passion for the game anymore. That to me signals, get the fuck out. Like get out of the game. If you're not putting the resources into the game to have a product that you care about that is worth playing and worth propping up every single year, don't make it. Take a year off, take infinity years off. Stop making the game. That's where I'm at. Like, so that's why I'm not playing this year. That's why I'm not buying this year. I haven't bought it for 10 years, but I'm not even going to accept it for free. I have no interest in playing this game because I think it's fucking embarrassing what they've done to it. I think that it's fucking disgraceful that it looks disembarrassing like as a hockey fan, I feel like we constantly fight to have hockey representation representation and be on equal footing as a lot of other sports. And this doesn't fucking help when people who play 2k and aren't like are aren't big hockey fans. They see this going up next to a 2k or a madden. And it's easy to say, well, nobody gives a fuck about your sport. Look at what they're doing for the video game. This is a fucking game from 2012. That's embarrassing. It's embarrassing as a hockey fan. I will say first off, I don't know if you say, did you ever play a rematch? I know, but I do. I did see that there's like a new hockey version of it. Yeah. Which rematch was genuinely like some of the most fun I've had playing video games in a while. So hopefully it's that good. But also you do know who owns EA Sports not right? Yeah. And so I know like the degradation and inshification of sports video games I think has been ongoing for a little bit. Like I don't I certainly don't think we're in the golden age of sports video games right now. But EA Sports is a gigantic company that makes a ton of money. And they just had a ton of money infused. And I know there was through the Saudis and through cushions. And they're not going to really care about. They're not going to have a magnificent passion for making a great sports video game. But college football 27 has kind of reset my standard for what sports video games. I guess college football and in total like college football 25 26 and 27 have all reset my standard of what sports video games should be because the detail is there. The the passion and actual like pushing forward and progression of that game year to year has been awesome. And it just shows that if you care enough about the title and you care enough about the product that you're pushing out. Then it can be good. And people will get excited about it. And people will buy it like college football 27 is awesome. It's incredible. I would say that it is like the best sports video game of the last 10 to 15 years. And there's no reason why EA can't do that for any of their fucking titles. There's no reason they can't do it for FC. There's no reason that they can't do it for NHL with just a tiny bit more support to the development team. And the development team that's been there has just been around for far too long. There just needs to be a change. Stop blaming wonder. I do I do like this. I wonder at what point the NHL itself needs to like protect itself in its image because like you can't just keep allowing the the the sole rights holder to your video games to pump out a shitty product that makes the sport look bad. Like I feel like at a certain point the league needs to be like you're not holding up the standards of this agreement or whatever. And maybe you don't have I actually don't know. Do they have exclusive rights or two K just stop making I think no I think the I think the exclusive rights have expired. Okay. So while then they need to start threatening EA sports with taking those rights somewhere else and giving them to someone else because if two K can make a better game people they're not exclusive. So if like anybody else came forward and was like we want to make an NHL game and we're going to buy the licensing they can do that. Yeah. So maybe somebody fucking I mean it really feels like two K would be the only other option. They're really the only other player in sports video games. But any competition is better than no competition. My favorite part of that wonderfully articulate rant from Pete was someone like one minute into it said bro sounds like the coach from letter Kenny. I don't watch letter Kenny. I don't know. He's just like screams at the team. Well, I was like yeah like this is Pete. This is a cause of it. And it has been. Yeah. It's again I want my life to be ruined by an NHL video game. It's I'm begging for it. I'm begging for the collapse of my my marriage my social life. Everything that I that I stand for. I'm begging for it to collapse because I want a good NHL video game because I love hockey and I love video games. And EA sports and the NHL team continuously spit in my face and tell me it's raining. I lost it, but someone at Oilers captain's practice said that before captain's practice, make David and Fomenton sat together for 10 minutes right now. Fomenton is skating with Trent Frederick and Matthew Joseph. Hell yeah. All right. Yeah. Why not? Vasilie pod calls in skating with 29 and 97. That's cool as fuck. We finally, oh, actually, you know, I want to do Carla Ray Jepsen. If that's cool. Carly Ray Jepsen had a feature in the Hollywood Reporter by the great Nicole fell and in it, they discussed heated rivalry. Jacob Tierney, obviously on our show had said that he would love to have Carla Ray Jepsen do a song for heated rivalry. She says in this interview that she, like, they haven't talked about it. I don't know if I believe that. I don't believe it. I so is that the thing where you say she's liar? Yeah. Yeah. I don't believe that for a second, but she also said, Ilya is the name of my son, maybe, not maybe because of that show. I think that if you named your child Ilya in 2026 in Canada. Regardless of whether it was because of the show, it was because of the show. Got to ask the question. Yeah. I mean, that one shocked me. I was, I was first off shocked by the, the allegation that she has not spoken to anybody involved with the show. Why? Shock she's lying. Shocking and wrong. Lier. Second part, shocking that, like, if you didn't name your son, Ilya, after the show and you bring it up in a conversation about the show. Right. That's bad behavior. Right. Then you're, well, that's stolen valor. Yeah. Right. So I would say confirmed. I think so. And, yeah, I mean, Matt Singleton and the chat says, "All I have the century." If Carly Rae Jepson did name her child after a gay hockey player from a TV show, that's what really is. That's what really is. And it's like, Carly Rae Jepson is who we thought she was. 100%. Fuck. Yeah. Carly Rae Jepson stays about the boys. All the ladies you just wouldn't get it, but Carly Rae Jepson stays about the fellas. The elevated cupcake experience has happened. Late in the season, no, I think this is like February or something. There was some charity thing and there was a, you could bid on an elevated cupcake experience with Will Smith and Macklein Salabrini. Well it happened. Will Smith posted a picture three days ago. And you see, they are at a cupcake thing, Celebrity and Smith. And then crashed the blue paint put out this video last week detailing the experience. The moment that everyone has been patiently waiting for, finally took place. Will Smith and Macklein Salabrini had their elevated cupcake experience. If everything I just said doesn't make sense, let me explain. Every single year, the Sanjay Shark One annual wine tasting event that's main objective is to raise money for charity. And at the event, one of the main ways that they do that is by auctioning off different items and experiences. And this year, one of the experiences went viral because it was a quote "elevated cupcake experience" at a local Sanjay cupcake shop and you would be joined by Will Smith and Macklein Salabrini, but no one knew what elevated cupcake experience meant. The experience ended up being auctioned off for $17,000, but everyone still wanted to know what is an elevated cupcake experience. And to the shark's credit, they actually leaned into the meme hard and started talking about it a ton. And that leads us to yesterday when the Sanjay Sharks officially confirmed that the elevated cupcake experience did happen and let me tell you, whenever they released those videos, it is going to blow up massively. And now, even these pictures are blowing up because everyone's making fun of the fact that Macklein Salabrini's cupcakes look very messy, compared to Will's and everyone knows that Will's a very good baker. So just be prepared. Everyone that upstate the elevator, the elevated cupcake experience drops, it is going to blow up. Leavenary thoughts and make sure you follow more daily hockey videos. All right. Thank you to Crash the Blue Paint. That whole thing. A lot of headroom. Yeah. You want to do the pinch test. You want to do it. So if you did a little pinch above your head that that is where it goes in the frame. But great content from Crash the Blue Paint. The whole subject and everything, like this is straight brain rot. But as I was watching that, I was like, yeah, Salabrini's cupcakes are a little messier than Will Smith's. It's cute. It's harmless. I like it. I mean, everybody knows Will Smith's a great baker. That's, I mean, I didn't know that. But damn. Well, now everybody knows, yeah, I'm cool with this. I feel like, let's keep this going. Let's do like monthly elevated cupcake experience check ins. Ooh, glazing. No pun intended says Angela over the fact that Randy Han's wife owns the cupcake shop. Yeah. So the broadcaster for the sharks is. So our Mackle and Salabrini and Will Smith, NEPO bakers, NEPO bakers, yeah, NEPO bakies. Yeah. I think not eating the allegations for sure. Yeah. Oh, I get it. Oh, so it's because Will, wait, wait, Will Smith, is that his middle name? What? Baker? Yeah. No, it's Charles Patrick. Two middle names. Will Charles Patrick. William Charles Patrick Smith is an American professional ice hockey player. Where what's the joke there? Like what am I missing? Why does everybody know that well apparently there's something there's something. Chat saying something about banana bread and Cindy Crosby. Okay. So I'm, I'm number crunching. That clears it. I get my news from crash the blue paint. So I will await news on this apparently he has just like a he makes really good chocolate chip banana bread that he brought to a team Thanksgiving dinner. Yeah. Fascinating. Apparently he just makes banana bread. That's good. Really? What a wholesome young man. I mean, he's a fascinating character. Yeah. Yeah. He's a really good guy. He's a video of him. Absolutely. It's not smashing balls out of, uh, it's the San Francisco ballpark name. It's not here. Clowny or is it? No, it's not. PNC is Pittsburgh. Yeah. Is it I think it's an air or not an aircraft a phone service thing maybe AT&T ballpark. If you're an athlete and you take practice, is the expectation that one leaves the building? I don't think it's the expectation, but I think that that's what everybody's looking for. This line, that's like par is you. So if you, you, you bogey, no big deal, you know, because Matt Turner, I remember, took batting practice with the angels and was just like fucking launching them. It's any crossby too. It's crossby was absolutely hammering balls out of PNC back in the day. It's like, this guy is a fucking asshole. That's, I mean, got to get him in the cages. I'm doing a Johnny Lazarus content series where I interview people in the batting cages and Julia films and nobody can see what's happening. Yeah. That'd be a good bit. Right. She's doing ice cream the whole time, shout out Julia, that's a goat. Premier League, or I'm sorry, Premier LaCrosse League, Denver beats Utah, Philly beats Boston, Denver Philly championship, September 20th. I was watching Boston kind of nearly came back. I know. But so my, I feel like got to consider it a success that the canons have had the season that they've had because when we were talking to our LaCrosse guys, they kind of like started the conversation from like, Hey Pete, you can get it on the ground floor because the canons are fucking ass. Up with you. I think they started a little bit of an uphill climb this season. I think they started always, yeah, I think it was the timing of the conversation they had just come off like a horrible, horrible loss, but they were windless, pretty bad and not a lot of hope. And I think all I have to say is that the canons took down Maryland. That's me, Beaton Sean. I'll consider that payback for the sabers. So it's a win for me. They went for it. They went farther than my redwoods. Your redwoods kind of disgrace. Yeah. They were bad. You're disgraced redwoods. And, did all he could, Denver, back to the championship. I did get some people that I went to college with, no, Brett Dobson, and they were like, awesome guy. Love that guy. So, we're going to make a social clip out of the miracle to casting. That was one of my favorite conversations we've had on this show. But the championship is September 20th between Denver and Philly. I think I want Philly to win. So the canons can say they lost the eventual champion. That's what you want. I'm down with that. Yep. Okay. Do my wishnakes get to say that they lost to the team that lost to the eventual champions? Of course. Transit of property. Kind of. Third place. Congrats. Okay. Shall we do some superchats? We should. I do want to mention this weekend, if you haven't gathered, Texas Longhorn's off. Ohio State. That game is going to be absolutely in sane. The amount of weapons between both of those teams. I'm trying my best not to overreact to week one results. But Texas looked great. Texas. Texas struggled. Texas state did. It wasn't there. Their finest performance. Texas. Ohio State looked awesome. Jeremiah Smith. Absolute dog. Julian Sain. Dog. They got a running back named Bo Jackson, which I think is very cool. But Texas. Arsch looks good. Cam Coleman. Stud. Hollywood. Smothers. Relic Brown. Like. It might be the year. Ryan Wingo. This might be the fucking year. I am excited. I think Texas beats Ohio State this weekend. Call him. I shall. Fuck yeah. I still definitely have Texas trauma. Like I'm not going to. The game seems like a prime time for them to fuck that shit up. Buddy. I'm ready to get hurt again. Yeah. I'm so ready. I don't blame you. My. My school. My other schools. ASU and and Syracuse won their week one games by combined like 150 to 10. The ASU game. They shortened the fourth quarter because they were they were kicking ass so bad. Oh, that's so bad. They. I know. I know. A legitimate college football, well, not like there was a buy game still, but yeah, they immersed the world. Someone Syracuse did that a few years ago too. Hate to see that. Oh. Okay. Got their money. Mercy rule in college football where like famously, the mercy rule does not exist in college football. Yeah. No, it's literally like designed in a lot of places for teams to get to the piss beat none of them. Yeah. For money. Yeah. The coaches. They didn't wrap this shit up, right? And they did. No. Pete's choosing Texas. Oh God. it's not a bad song. Sorry, sorry, sorry, people would be as mad as I that that that's a better song than a lot of I still have not heard it. It's fine. It's not a bad song. Yes, it's it's got a little something to it. I don't care about it, but it's not a bad song. Let's do some super chats. Or do you want to do sports or action? Sean, we, I mean, we usually do SI first, but it's a sports interaction. Ontario or Alberta only must be 19 plus in Ontario, 18 plus in Alberta. Please play responsibly. You know where I'm going. The New England Patriots are getting four points this evening at the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle. Seahawks. Now folks, I will remind you, these teams played recently. I mean, the most recent most recent NFL game that counted. Yes, was a 29 13 Super Bowl victory for the Seahawks or the Patriots that. Love more than a 16 point game. That was like a, that that was a stupid, bad, not worth watching game. I think they're going to be, they're going to be many times in the remainder of my life for however long that is that I will say, oh, yeah, that's right. The Patriots did play in that Super Bowl. Yeah. I would love to forget it. Well, everyone got mad at fanatics for not getting them their precious jerseys and they were looking out for you. Okay. Because that game was booted cheeks. I'll tell you what, I don't really have a major dog in this fight, but. Give me the Patriots and the points. I'll take the points. I feel like those like early season Super Bowl rematches are always one by the team that lost. And it's like Drake Mays not hurt. Drake. Oh, yeah, I forgot the boat. That was the best. He was hurt and they were pretending he wasn't. Is that it? Yeah. And people were being really annoyed about they were like, he's not hurt. He's not hurt. He's not hurt. He's not hurt. Even after the game, even after the game, people were like, they said he's not hurt. And I'm like, yeah, well, I fucking watched the game and saw him not able to physically throw the football. I'm pretty sure he's hurt. Yeah. So Drake Mays not hurt. You got AJ Brown. Christians Gonzales wrapped up. Yep. Long term extension. Dog. Fucking Patriots. I hate it. I think they're going to win this game. I think they're going to win the game. All right, Tim. Yeah. Yeah. You can win the regular season game. I can sleep with that. Also, that's the regular season. I mean, he's he is. He is an expert on the matter. Yes. I was recently. We weren't winning a lot of regular season either for most of my life. I also, I want to see, I guess I kind of have to do this now, trying to parlay the bill. Superbowl and Jess Pagula to win US Open. Just all, all, uh, uh, Pagula domination. It's all happening. Yeah. I love that. US Open kind of fucking rocks right now. US tennis is back. I like tennis. Yeah. I don't watch. If it's on, I'm locked in. Yeah. It is a very cool sport. I will say I don't love the tennis crowd. Like, I think it's, it's not, it's no longer about the tennis. I don't, like, I don't like the US Open crowd. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think Wimbledon really like that. Shut up. I agree. Shut out US traders. It just seems like a very trendy look. I went to the US Open kind of thing now. You get the little drink with the, yeah, with the melon balls. That looks like that's like the, the tennis melon, the, the honey. What's it called? What's the drink called? Come on. I know. Yeah. It's the endless pictures of it. Yeah. And it's a, uh, it's a photo op sketch. Wanted to be a favor and take some of these? Yeah. I can't put it out of your misery. Uh, what? Generic Red Circle says Chris Cratter. You are a Philadelphia flyer. Somebody, I saw somebody throw it out of the New York Islanders. That might be fun. That would be fun. I don't, I, this like the first player I think that has ever kind of like been made a free agent that is, might be good that I haven't suggested be a Buffalo Saber. So I want to formally suggest that he should be a Buffalo Saber. Why not? There you go. Uh, Eric Ripperson, DJ wild move popping the question at water country, but she said yes. And that's what matters. Congratulations. I didn't know. We never asked that. Outwater country. We did DJ was just like, it was, it was a body of water that we really enjoy going two together. And then later on was like, and we go to water country all the time. Didn't consider that those might be the same thing. That's the, we, we are just like, we're in our natural habitat when we're swimming. That's why I wanted to do it when we were swimming. So I did it in a pond and it was great. Imagine proposing at the, uh, the wave pool at water country, just getting absolutely. Yeah, getting annihilated by gigantic manufactured waves and like gallons of toddler piss. The, uh, spend the rest of my, my rest of your life with me. I love you. One of the great comments on my, uh, post about it on Instagram. Someone just commented because of the implication. Doing it in an open water because of the implication. To even though it was like, it was like three feet of water. It was, I mean, that's famously enough to, that's deep enough to drown, uh, uh, Jackie junior. It was like six inches of water. It's, uh, didn't he almost drown in, uh, three inches of water? The penguin exhibit. Sean, you got to watch the soprano. He really do. Jackie junior was so dumb. One of the best comedies of all time died of just being so fucking dumb and he dies in a very comical way. Very comical. Shout with a toy gun. Shout out, uh, all of those who have, uh, passed on. That's right. Anna Reeves writes, starting a go fund me to get Connor's story to officiate DJ and Julia's wedding. Oh, thank you. That'd be fun. I do have somebody in mind for an efficient. Hmm, who might did, who might that be someone we know? Okay. Very nice. Uh, page paragraphs says DJ, you know why? Because they do welcome it. It's a very menacing super chat, but I think it is. I'm sure that's a boat time that it was. And they're just welcoming people being like, you hate women. Uh, the David Carlson boys, you have a brand new baby. What? Not four days old, and my new baby girl is watching her first chaos with her dad. Happy birth. Happy day of birth, Sean. Hell yeah, David Carlson, David and your baby. Congratulations. Happy birthday to both of you. Wow. That's amazing. Carlson, uh, Garsh 56. What nut and twin of mine, Mike noise had a baby boy named Fergus on Monday. I, if that's true, that's, if that's true, that is a top tier birth. I would say the David Carlson just got birthmogged. Yeah. Sorry, David. Emma Haven had a terrible evening at work last night. Thanks for a show today. Hashtag, turn it teal. Oh, are we are we shifting from hashtag, the future is teal to hashtag, turn it teal. I would rather, I mean, the future can't be teal forever. That's right. Exactly. You got to at some point because people are going to start mocking you if you do it for too long. They're going to be like, what's the future? So the future is the future now? The future in the room with us. Yeah. That's right. Yeah. Now turn it teal. Is there official helmet code? I'm going to do that. Yeah. Emma Haven, uh, sorry about your terrible, terrible evening at work. Thank you for being here with us today. Uh, Nathan McKinnon's heart candidacy DJ. They do split diopter in T.S. and D. That can't be asthma. Split diopter. How did the moments have in a moment? Stavros Halkius doing it in his, uh, special promo. Yep. With Matt Johnson. Yep. An incredible shot for shot remake of the original mission possible. Good stuff. Uh, it's, let's says these. Well, Emma, do we do Emma? Yeah. Oh, uh, uh, please pull up William Eclan. It's crazy. I have not seen William Eclan's. I don't think. Uh, it's let's, these face scans look worse than my failed attempts at creating custom content for the sins. Shout out to Sims. Uh, J.S. Grizzi, NF, NFL 2K 5 was the peak of sports video games. Yeah. Right. Is that the one you have in history? Oh, on the cover. I think so. Uh, I think so. Are you going to have like a whole house? It was either Cole Pepper or T.O. It was not Cole Pepper. I know. I'd think you, well, that was T.O. That, yeah. Was that yes? Well, in 2K, it was yes. Yes. Yeah. 2K 5. That was the whole house. You could customize. You could play finger football in it. Yeah. They had full on like full graphic packages for the halftime show narrated by Boomer. Chris Burman. Yeah. Chris Burman. You could also, I loved to build you would build up a charge. If you had the ball in open space and no one was touching you, you could like slow down a little bit to build up a charge. So if someone tries to tackle you, you can pull through, you can just like blow through them. I would, I would always be dawn of a McNabb big fat guy. Uh, quarterback just roll out and just like slowly build up a charge that was rolling out and then just mow people down the They had the off the opposite of Michael Vick in Madden, it's just the slow fat guy roll out. Yeah. And it was, he was like, Gronk was running down the field fast. I always did the, like, you could do the first person control of player mode where you're like looking from inside the mask and I'd play in a sap. Great idea. Horrible. A fucking sheet. No, not as Warren sat. You just roll, roll through the line and sack the quarterback. It's awesome. Warren sat quite a monster in this day. Luxury trash. DJ, any updates on your batting cage journey? It's probably wrapped for the season. I did. I want to do some more stuff in the batting cage. Wanted to see if maybe we could turn into any sort of content or anything as I lament that like everything is being turned into content these days, but who am I to fucking say that? I was like, yeah, we get some stuff out of that. Not in cages. Just a nap in the summer. Busy, busy. All right. I just looked up William Ecklen's face and it's, it's not good, but he looks like a real human being. It just doesn't look like William Ecklen's. We've got low bearing wokeness. James Franklin is the truth. Also Michigan lost that game. I don't give a fuck. Hashtag Danny Cole caught that ball. Michigan absolutely lost that game. And you can't convince me otherwise. I've seen the big 10 try to come out and like say, no, this is the clock. I saw, my eyes saw what my eyes saw. And. Well, did you see the max statement? Yeah. And Mac was like, no, this isn't bullshit. They, they, they put it under protest in the NCAA. Yeah. Good. I mean, they wanted. I think that like college football has fucking spoken Michigan is out of the top 25. Yeah. So. Yeah. The people though. Fuck those guys. Fuck LSU. No. I'm in an LSU. I love LSU. So like I'm in an LSU for as long as it needs to happen. Like I want, I want them to be relevant and I want Lane Kiffin to be a central character. Like I don't have a suck and fall out of the picture of relevance. But at a certain point, I will say fuck LSU and I want to see that program crumble and I want it to be messy as fuck. Come on. I love LSU. I'm a program. I'm going to be rooting for the other shoe to drop now, but we've never seen champion Lane, like we don't know what Lane Kiffin when he has the opportunity to talk shit from the highest, the highest spot, like what that brings us. And I kind of think we need to, we need to experience that. I, you know, where I really kind of turn on Lane Kiffin this week is when the leaked video came out of his halftime speech, we had pretty electric halftime speech was should base to like, I don't care how much you're up right now. I want you to come out of this locker room and straight up kill those guys. They hate you. Everybody hates you. Kill them. Oh, yeah. Yeah, no, incredible locker room speech. It leaked. And I think that it leaked because Lane Kiffin just told one of his staffers, put this out there. I sound awesome. Well, was he like, I don't know, I like Lane Kiffin playing the bad guy. I just anytime anything good happens with Lane Kiffin, I'm like, Lane Kiffin was behind this. And anytime anything bad happens, I'm like, that's Lane Kiffin. That's good. That's fair. Renee says, can someone please explain the Pete UT lore? There's not really a lot of lore. It's that I love college football and like 10 years ago, eight to 10 years ago, like that went to a game in Austin. It was my first true, real big college football experience. And I was like, I'd like to have a team. And this is my first experience. I loved this. I'm just going to pick them and I'm going to support them. And I've watched like every Longhorn's game for the last 10 years. And I've watched too many like Hudson card starts to be accused of being a big fan. And I realized that like my fandom might be seen as lesser than because like I didn't go to Texas or I'm not from Texas. And a big part of college football is like the communal ties to those teams. But I just fucking love college football and I have grown to love the Longhorns and fucking deal with it. Yeah. You don't choose how it finds you. And also like Texas, you're not an Alabama or a Notre Dame fan like Texas hasn't won anything. And like, when they were when they were bad. Yeah. I don't think they fall into that camp of like obvious bandwagon schools. I mean, it's they're big, like they're obviously a big program and have like an iconic like branding. Yeah. It's like, basically any Premier League team or any of like the big names. But some of them, it's like if you were like, you know what, I'm a fucking Chelsea fan. He will be like, oh, you're really front running. It's like that's a fucking torture and experience. I don't want to be one and if anybody wants to tell me like, why aren't you just like root for BC? Well, it's because I've watched BC football and it makes me want to fucking die and you have as much a relation to BC as you do to Texas. Yeah. I mean, like what I like BC to be relevant so that college football will have more presence in the Northeast in New England. Absolutely. I would love for New England and the Northeast to embrace college football the way that a lot of other places in the country do, they're just not enough going on here for that to happen or be realistic, at least in a long term perspective. I am an ACC football fan against my will because I went there because it was a basketball school at one point. And now I watch ACC football every week. Shannon says, congrats DJ and Julie. I hope that you have your ceremony in the peaceful dreams cake that is water country. Please get married. I did suggest that that would be unbelievable. People get married at, I don't know about water country, but like people get married at just like Disney. Like what's what's the Kimble farms? You know that Kimble farms, yeah, people, people do that. So why don't water country? I think that people should get married wherever is most important to them and for you and Julia, that is water country and that's not my place to argue. John Gritty says how many best men? That's a fun. I thought about that today and that Pete, I was like not enough of that was put on you, that Pete announced on our show that he was thinking of that. But before talking to me about it was like, I think I'm going to have multiple best men. And I was like, how many fucking what? And I had like a crash out and I was basically bullying him. I was like, I won't be one of them then. You want to have multiple. And then after he talked to me about it and I was like, oh yeah, that makes sense, my bad. Sorry about that. But should it give me a heads up? You blindsided me, man. It's not my, it's not my, like I don't have to give you a heads up for my wedding decisions. It's on you for not realizing that like, I've got two extremely important guys in my life and just assuming that you would be the number one. I was blindsided. I don't think it, I don't think that that falls on me at all. I'm on to have to. No, I was the one who I was the one who had the crash out, but could have been avoided. Yeah, but you're suggesting that it was valid. Yeah. No, no, no. No, I'm, I wish I didn't have the crash out, but you said you would have started that by saying not enough was put on Pete. Yeah. I'll say not enough was put on you. Here's the thing. We all got through it. And I was like, I showed up to the show that day and was like, I am going to throw out that I want to have multiple best men and I'm going to catch DJ off guard and see how he reacts. We were talking about Connor McDavid's wedding and the fact that he had multiple best men. Oh. And you were like, that's some fucking absolute bullshit. Yeah. I'm not going to be a best man. And me, like knowing that I was going to do best men. Yeah. I kind of had to say something to be like, well, you are going to have to accept that. I've also been a best man at like 300 weddings. So I'm not going to announce what I think my plan is anyway. But I've known that one day though, those chickens would come home to roost. I think I'm just going to, I'm just going to make everyone who attends my wedding the best man. And then everybody wants a shout out, YG. Incredible. Nice shot. A real 199 bomb thrown in the room. Look up Sherwood. Emma Haven says, look up Sherwood. Pete, you need to see it. I did see key for Sherwood and not of respect to key for Sherwood. I did not include him in the face scans that we show today. That's horrible. Michaela Boo, Chella had to join late. That's an awesome name of Boo work, but I'm going to France next week and we'll be seeing the duque d'angère. Thank you, Sean. Hockey game at the end of the month. I cannot wait. That's great. And that might not even be close to the right pronunciation. I do. I've had like one listener be like, please come to England and go to one of these like English hockey games. They're a real party. And I'll tell you what, I would like to do that. Going to a UK hockey game sounds like it probably is a weird ass time. Sean. Is a duque d'angère. Duque d'angère. Okay. That was not too far. Yeah. Better than I could have done. Yeah. Matt Friend or foe. Sean making me realize that the only sport where I think actually looks good are rugby shirts. I do like rugby shirts, but I have like a weird aversion to any sports thing that has a collar. Like when soccer wears a collar, I'm like, I dyes that look stupid. Oh, so you're, I know, I know that that's a very, like, binary thing. Sean, where are you on? I love. Yeah, I would say all colors. I love colored psychotruses. Chelsea's blue, new blue kits. This have colors this year, which by the way, you didn't talk, I was shocked. You never talk shit to me, Pete. Your gunners beat Chelsea. Yeah, no. Thanks to Kai Havards, who fucking, like I ruins my life. Like I ruined my fucking life. At this point, like it's not, it'd be bad behavior for me to talk shit because Arsenal is just awesome. I mean, Chelsea started the season pretty good, but the fact that it's Kai Havards in particular, ruining Chelsea's life hurts. Who was the, what was the game that, that before them, they scored on literally like a last second miracle from, uh, that was, uh, Everton. I think of you. Yeah. Yeah, they, it was like the 84th minute, like literally, it was like 85 minutes with four minutes, or 95, I think it was the 95th minute with four minutes of added time. So they were just, they were, it was like, we'll just wait for the whistle when it was a banger from like 10 yards out of the box. It was crazy. It was unbelievable. Yeah. That's it rocked. Yeah.
