Dave Smith and Rob engage in a critical analysis of the resurgence of "woke" ideologies, particularly in response to Shane Gillis' return to *Saturday Night Live* after controversy over a gym-related joke. They observe that despite the earlier defeat of "woke one" in cultural and political spheres, its elements—like moral policing of comedy and political sensitivity—have re-emerged, now fueled by reactionary outrage. The shift to internet-driven cultural influence has empowered marginalized voices and disrupted traditional media dominance. They critique Ben Shapiro’s avoidance of substantive debate on Israel’s actions in Gaza, noting his reliance on performative responses like "investigations" and deflecting hard questions about civilian casualties. The conversation highlights a stark disconnect between conservative political messaging—focused on war and national pride—and the real economic struggles faced by young people in high-cost urban areas. The hosts argue that both sides have failed to engage in honest dialogue, with the right now deploying emotionally charged, dismissive rhetoric to silence criticism. Ultimately, they emphasize that true political discourse requires accountability, economic transparency, and willingness to debate difficult truths—not just performative statements or ideological loyalty. The episode underscores a broader cultural crisis: the failure of institutions to address systemic issues, whether economic or ethical, in favor of ideological posturing.
What's up? What's up, everybody? Welcome to a brand new episode of part of the problem. I am Dave Smith. He is Robbie the fire Bernstein and believe it or not, he is home. Amazing to see. How are you doing, sir, after all of your travels? How was how was the big show with with Horton in Texas? Oh, we had a blast. Should have filmed that one. That was a that was a good showing of the Austin crowd presentation went great and we had a good time. Oh, nice, nice. Happy to hear that. What's and what's next up for you? Well, we're coming to the home stretch here. So I'm just going to read it off. We've got a Milwaukee on Thursday, Chicago on Friday, Fort Wayne, Indiana on Saturday and then Sunday in Ohio outside of Cleveland. And then just to read off everything through the end of the year. I got a gig in Strathman, New Hampshire, Birmingham, Alabama, Memphis, Bon Agua, Tennessee, Aguanga, California, and then I'm going to film the FBI thing in New York City in November. So go to portstore.com, come hang out. All right. Sounds good, man. That's going to be awesome. Can't wait to see it. And then what do we got? We're me and you together in October 23rd through 25th. We're up in Portland, Maine, the good Portland up in Maine. Come on out and see us there. And we got like five. I don't know that's a good Portland. I think it's also it's a prettier liberal shithole, but I don't know if it's the, listen, we're going to have a great job on the ground. There's got to be less drugs on the ground. There might be more drugs on the ground, Rob. I'm not sure that might really, you know what? I've got to look up this. This might be this might be fentanyl country. Actually, I, I, you know what? I think you're right. I think the, the, the out West Portland's probably the dumber of the two, but the Portland we're going to, oh, you go to that downtown area, great coffee, but gay flags everywhere. Yeah. All right. Listen, West Coast Portland, we don't have a date there, Rob. So that one sucks. We have a data east coast Portland. So that one's great. And we'll be there October 23rd, fourth, 23rd, 25th. And then that has the American comedy, the American comedy club in San Diego. Don't forget that one November 5th through 7th. And yeah. And then who knows? I got some fun stuff, some other big podcasts that I'm going to be doing before, before the end of the year. So something cool stuff coming up. All right, Rob, let's talk about a few different things. Actually, a lot on my mind today, but that's good as we were discussing before the show for the Monday show, because maybe whatever we can't get to today will cover tomorrow. I did want to talk a little bit about what I've been seeing today online as a lot of the backlash to my, my buddy Shane Gillis, hosting Saturday at Live for a third time. I don't know. Rob, maybe I'm putting a pattern together here that isn't exactly here, but I don't know. I feel like there's been something going on. And it kind of between the, maybe it's between the, I keep saying Princeton, but I'm wrong to say Princeton. Why do I keep wanting to say, the Cornell, the Cornell scandal, whatever you want to call that and the kind of Shane hosting now, it almost seems like a weird re-emergence of woke one. You remember what AOC was talking about? Woke one was crazy. I thought even AOC, because when I say that, I just mean there's this weird thing where there was this thing called wokeism that kind of swept the nation. It was then soundly defeated. When I say swept the nation, I mean, swept every major institution of every corporate outlet, academia, Hollywood, and most of liberal America, like these really crazy kind of views, this new kind of orthodoxy, it was then soundly defeated in the culture, both all throughout the culture, electorally, as well as just in the marketplace, in terms of boycotts of businesses. And to the point that you got AOC and Mamdani and them taking their pronouns out of their Twitter bio, like that's over. We don't even want to do that anymore. It's such a losing issue. And even AOC, one of the leaders of woke one just says, "Ah, woke one was cray-cray. We're moving on to woke two," or whatever. But very specifically, we're seeing, even though that's been defeated, it's not like all the people who believed in that stuff have been vanquished. There's still people in all of these institutions who actually bought into it. And then maybe there's some people who still want to cynically use it, which is really what drove the success of the first run. But Rob, I'm saying, when I say woke one, I mean very specifically, like duke lacrosse, and the duke lacrosse case, they ran the exact same playbook after this one. Oh, but every accusation, no matter how much, all the facts on the ground, pointing the exact opposite direction, believe all women, we're going to do that. And then the same like, we're offended by what comedians, this is truly an outrage, what comedians say. And we must have, I don't know, this kind of like really purely authoritarian mindset around comedy, where if we do not control one inch of it, we must act as if this is aggression or something. I don't know. It's just this absolute craziness. Anywhere up, it's been a little bit weird. I'm seeing, when I say woke one, re-emerging, I mean like the exact same issues. And that, I don't know, I just, I guess I'm a little bit surprised. It almost, man, I'm not saying it is Rob. I don't, I don't, I'm not a coup who says that shit like this. But man, if it was a massage op to keep the Republicans in power, I'm not sure, like why is this happening right before the midterms, all of a sudden they're picking up the least popular issues. But I don't know, kind of strange. I didn't go conspiratorial with it, but I had the exact same thought that if these fruit cakes keep up their fruit caking, we're going to end up go and I don't care about these wars. I'll vote for Trump for sure. And so guys just relax and be a little bit cool. So we can agree on getting out of these dumb wars. Well, I think it's always your, your intent on reminding us how horrible you are, you know, before we, it's very strange. Particularly when you just see, I don't know, the look, the flip out as we, me and you are very uniquely positioned to talk about this as, as people who are like, we are, have been working stand-up comedians this entire time. We also do a show about the news. We kind of have one foot in both of those worlds. But like, there was this rise of, it's such a crazy thing, right? Because there was this rise of wokeism where it was like, oh, there was a real effort to keep all of the comedians. And by the way, it really has nothing to do with politics from our perspective. From their perspective, it has everything to do with politics. Because from their perspective, politics, this is why they're truly like kind of communist in nature, these guys. From their perspective, politics is everything. And so if you don't have explicit left-wing politics in everything you do, that is a political statement from their perspective. But they, to be clear, they didn't like have a beef with me because of my politics. I mean, they did use that a lot and they really didn't like me a lot of those guys. And they would use my connection to a lot of these guys to be like, we see they're all secretly right-wingers or something. But everybody knew that like, my connection, even my connection to like Lewis and Jay or any of my comedy buddies who are like my good friends, my connection to them is just that we're brothers. We came up in comedy together. Not that like, we're sworn loyal to the same political cause. Any more than you and all your friends and all your family have the exact same views. It's not like that. Anyway, their beef was always just with anyone outside the system. But Rob, if you remember, in these days, and I'm talking like, I don't know, 2020, 2012 through 2022 or something like that, in those days, it meant something to deny people the corporate access. That was you denying us our life. You know, all the comedians crying about how Sebastian Manescalkel took over a channel and isn't giving them welfare anymore. All right, fine. I shouldn't call it welfare, but kind of charity. All those people crying. Well, that was us. That was us. We were in that situation. I don't remember. I see a bunch of these guys asking me to make videos for them, Rob, but I don't remember any of them making videos for me when it was me and all my guys being exed out of everything. I remember them maybe quietly at best whispering to me, and you're messed up. You're messed up that everyone in power thinks you're a Nazi. Anyway, but what happened after that Rob is that that whole system broke and the internet system took over. The internet has just dominated the corporate thing and it's kind of changed everything to the point that, and I mean, I don't know, but Sarah live, even when they have a big show, a huge part, if not the overwhelming majority of that is how viral it goes online. That should goes viral on clips. It gets way more views than it would have on NBC. It's not the TV part isn't even what matters to TV anymore. Maybe that's a little bit of an overstatement, but I'm sure they still get some people watching, but I'm probably not far off on that. Anyway, the point being in the ultimate act of like we're reversing course, the market has spoken. Sarah live goes from firing this guy as a cast member. So now having him back on for a third time, hosting the show. It's kind of a craziest, you know, reversal culturally, like you could imagine in such a short period of time. And they're sitting here protesting that like he dropped an F-bomb in [BLANK_AUDIO]
and like the controversial joke, I don't know if you saw it, Rob, was that like about girls dressing like whores at the gym, which like 100% of people know as a real phenomenon and know exactly what he's talking about, including the girls who dressed that way and the men who white night and defend them. They also like all of it is the craziest Emperor's new closed position to pretend you're offended. Like I don't even notice the trend. I don't know what you're talking about. Anyway, I'm sorry Rob, I will, I will let you get in here and go for a while here. But the fact that they're now going to be furious about this guy over this mild shit, when literally what can you take away from him? Saturday night live wasn't even a thing. Saturday live was like a cherry on top after he had already won and dominated. He has, he's the hottest comedian of our time. What are you talking about here? So anyways, just so bizarre, like what even would be the potential outcome? You want to box him out of Saturday night live. So he only gets to do stadiums and Rogan and everything else humongous. What's, it's just very bizarre to see. It almost seems like an op because how could it possibly make sense? Anyway, go ahead. Well, I think Shane is so big and talented. There's really nothing you can do. If you took away everything, he'd have the biggest podcast because there would be more interest in the podcast. So Shane's not going anywhere. But in woke one, you could have potentially had Netflix canceling his show. You could have had the stadiums that he's playing at saying, oh, we're not actually going to have this person here. And until we get there, it doesn't really matter. These are the people that weren't Shane fans complaining that there's a popular thing and that organizations essentially aren't doing the go woke go broke because they can't and that these people have lost in the marketplace. That's what these people are really complaining about. But in woke one, you might have actually seen a real cancellation. And that's, that's where it gets scary is if it escalates to that on the minority people who were never consumers. This was never for them. And they're just outraged. You know, it's I used to have a joke in my act about the way women dressed at gyms. And I remember having to be very selective about doing that in New York City because sadly, I wish I was at the level where I was allowed to bomb. I would love that. I would love pissing it off audiences sitting in the pocket and just having fun. If I was booked at a New York City club, I do not get that courtesy. It means I can do it once and never work there again. But I had a couple times I was working that bit. Work out weird women started. You can't comment on women body or whatever. And like you had to deal with like, why do you disagree with this object? Like, why am I not allowed to make this observation? It was one of those topics that audiences would just, I'm surprised it four years later. That's still the case in New York, but that is what happens when you do SNL. But I do remember working that bit. It was a good bit. I had good lines for it. I worked it out, but it was a joke I had to do very selectively in New York City because you could get 22 year old women and their white night boy friends just turning on you just off the bat from the first observation. Yeah. Yeah. And again, it's a weird thing to kind of grapple with it genuinely in terms of like your understanding of the country that we live in because there are, you know, when these issues get moved, Rob, I guess, when they get moved, let's say on the margins, like whatever it is, by the beginning of COVID, you know, there was like, whatever the numbers, I'm just making these numbers up, but like people could go look it up. But like, if 80% of people supported lockdowns at the beginning, by the end, 80% were against them. It was like a huge move from something like that, you know? And but even in like a scenario like that, you're like, okay, but in the heart of deep blue, New York City, or in the heart of San Francisco, or something like, what is the consensus exactly around any of these issues? It's kind of hard to say. Like, do people, is it consensus amongst them that they got everything wrong? And we better just quietly move on. I mean, that's how a lot of them act publicly, but clearly that can't be the entire consensus. Anyway, I will say that the idea of launching woke one again. And I think you've seen this to some degree in the response to the the Cornell case. And in the response to even this, is that I'll tell you this, first of all, that shit is destined to fail. Any pulling out of woke one again, politically speaking, is destined to just get stomped out. Like, try bring, if you're going to try to do the like, the trans kid thing again, or something like that, it's just, it's already been soundly defeated. But I'm telling you, and I've seen a bit of this already, the response is going to be so much quicker and so much more vicious from the right. Like, it's not going to be anything like the response like the first time. I have a agree with you, and that's because I think government is a bad business partner that you don't want. And at the moment, you can get away for basically one administration of bad policy and you'll get voted out. You're watching it right now with the iron war. You're watching it. You just saw it with Biden, essentially, with a legal immigration. But you can get into office and go on a four year run of policy that people hate until they throw you out. And if you end up with a new democratic administration that is basically the same way war is a socialist activity, they're making a lot of money available for essentially woke culture media projects or their pressuring media companies to front more of that stuff. And, and colleges are getting more grants and everything if they're in line with that worldview. You can see another run where for the short term companies see more profits or pressure to be in line with the regime. And just the best, the best proof of like that there are bad business partners. All of Hollywood got on board with the COVID agenda. And they basically lost their media enterprises. The fact that the internet just continued. I mean, look at like Comedy Central versus Killtony. Killtony continued. We continued news lost numbers to us. And it's like the government doesn't get their back four years later to go, oh, we really fucked down this policy. Here's a massive page check. It's such a good point, man. And I don't know. There's something that I'm just like not smart enough to articulate above my pay grade that is some universal truth that you're like getting out there. And it's something about also just a basic thing about dependency. Like anytime you take a higher, you know, it's like you're living in a nicer house than you could afford because someone else is paying for it. It's like, okay, that's great. You get that benefit early, but then if they pull that money all of a sudden, you got to move and downgrade your life. And you know, I think about Ukraine, right? When when Professor John Meersheimer said in 2014, well, all the hawks were celebrating the revolution. He said right after it that America is leading Ukraine down the Primrose path. It might look like we just poured billions into the economy and we just bought their independence and stole them away from Russia or something like that. Oh, yeah, until the reaction was if I get Russia and you know, like you you do and in a sense, right? Isn't there such a great comparison between that and what you just said? Like the regime backing one side of a conflict, elevating them to a level that they wouldn't have been able to be at without them backing them that. And then when they lose that backing and they just got to sit there and deal with like all the backlash, you know, like whoever George Soros' organization isn't dealing with the backlash, but like some gender studies professor is getting torn apart online right now. But I'm just saying, so I get your point on all of that. It's very interesting. But man, I just see already where is like the right wing is so much more hardened by the years of wokeism than they were going into the years of wokeism that hardened them. And you already see where like the response, you know, 10 years ago, everyone would have been like believe all women, you know, the Cornell stuff. What AOC was saying is what everyone would have been saying in power. And then the right wing dissidents would have been saying like, well, you know, I don't know, like trying to point out like we can't always believe women because then we give up on the process of law or something like that, probably making new on points like me and you are still making today. But today the young right wingers are like she's a whore who wanted it and blah, blah, blah. And that's it. It's like we're not even having this conversation. But no one's even trying to like debate the merits of trans and kids or canceling comics or any of this because we spent a full decade debating it. All of the leftists were afraid to debate it. They just demonized us as Nazis. We were completely right the whole time. And you know, whether it's wokeism or me too or COVID or any of that shit like nobody's going to even including us. I don't think no one's going to like just redebate these issues. We've already won them. We're moving on. Um, I agree with you that the tolerance and politeness about it from the right has been exhausted. And I hope you're right that it's a fat like Pogs. Um, what concerns me with it is just the amount of a socialist government money that can back you. And uh, no, that doesn't mean that doesn't mean they can't bring it back. I guess I'm not saying that. I'm saying they could. Your point is well taken. They could bring it back. They can manipulate the economy and make the incentives line up and force this stuff down people's throats. It's just like, oh my god, this is going to be the worst thing for the country. If you try to do that because man, well, this tear the country apart even more so. And the reaction on the right is going to be so much more vicious and so much quicker than than it was previously. All right, guys, let's take a moment and think our sponsor for today's show, which is crowd health long time sponsor, great company. I've been telling you about them for a while. Fall is here. Um, this was something I think that was the first hero spoke at a turning point USA event over the weekend. He gave a speech and then he took questions from the kids. I get you really can't over study if he took an onsla of just, you know, kids coming up that ranged from, you know, respectful disagreement to all types of shouting and theatrics. But anyway, I thought I thought some of things, you know, it was also coming off Rob. I've had I guess I was a part of a bit of a controversy, uh, which I'm, you know, used to finding myself in over this weekend because I did the Tucker show and Tucker framed the opening of the show and the post on Twitter as like, hey, Charlie Kirk, you know, said is a question whether there was a stand down order and all these years later, we still have all these questions. And no one can point to a single thing that Tucker or I said that was wrong by a show which was pretty damn controversial two hours of programming. But no, so the only thing they can point to is that like Tucker Carlson said false flag in the tweet and he's manipulating Charlie's words. The producer for Stephen Crowder said that he said that this would be, uh, this would be like, like if Tucker died and you claimed he supported the war in Iraq. And I was like, well Tucker has for 20 years explicitly said I apologize for once feeling that way. I go, has has Charlie ever explicitly apologized for questioning whether there was a stand down order on the Patrick Grant David show. He hasn't responded so far that and neither has anyone else because it's not true. Charlie did say that and we played the clip of what Charlie said. They have no argument here. Anyway, what is worth pointing out here, you know, and anybody can go, you know, look, Charlie was like 10 years younger than me. He was like 25 years younger than me and Tucker. We all have our own opinions. It's not like we were looking to Charlie. We don't have to lie. It's not like we were looking to Charlie as a thought leader. The point is that this one guy who now in his death is kind of beloved by all sides. He said this and hey, this was a very legitimate question and still is all these years later. And another legitimate thing to point out Rob, which I think is fair is that Charlie Kirk say whatever he was supposed to be in pro-Israel. He privately flirted with the idea. But he never publicly renounced being pro-Israel. And he certainly defended Donald Trump. Even though he warned against the 12 day war, he defended him after he launched it. And he was going to try to keep the coalition together or whatever. But there's also no question that turning point USA, the organization has been radically transformed since his death into essentially rather than rather than Charlie Kirk's mission. It's now just purely like the establishment wing, the war hawk wing of the Republican party. And looked to Charlie Kirk openly said that Thomas Massey was his favorite congressman. Charlie Kirk came out of the Ron Paul revolution like Charlie Kirk. He said Massey was his favorite congressman. And turning point USA did not lift a finger to help him. Man, didn't lift a finger to help him during the day. During the biggest smear campaign hit job from the Israel lobby and congressional history. They they Charlie Kirk openly said that he would never stop having Tucker Carlson. That he would never stop having that point of view. He told me. Parsley that we were going to do a whole bunch more stuff together. Like the organization just would have been a different thing with him there. And that is just not the organization now. Now the organization is like you'll hear that. And then we're going to see if it's going to be a different thing. But didn't he also give the Carg Island pitch, hey, if they, uh, just for the whole way we'd be done. He mentions briefly that we shouldn't have paused. We shouldn't have paused. We should have gone harder there. And that what that was the big mistake. Not not launching the war. And then I think he tries to cover up in a way for the war and say that the issue with Trump is that the administration has been corrupt and willing and dealing. And that's why people don't like him. I believe that was a part, I believe that was a part responding to a question. Okay. And he had that point. But his pitch basically was that, um, was that, you know, anyone.
to be done. Yes, there's a little bit of a cost, but anyone telling you otherwise, anyone telling you that we're losing, we're not because, well, look, blah, blah, blah. We've damaged them so much more than us. And then, of course, you got in some bragging about how the straight-of-hermos is doing really great, and that problem has been solved. We may not have time to get into all that in today's episode, but that was kind of the essence of it. The real problem here that you could just see, and this is just so obvious from the outside looking at. And look, I'm going to be honest that I obviously unbiased, and my point of view on this is that the only real economics is Austrian economics, and essentially the Austrians are the only ones who even have anything to say about this. I'm sorry, where is the great conservative economists with their theory on money and credit, Rob? You tell me. I'm listening. Where's the great liberal? Where's the great liberal theory on what do you got? Canes? Get the fuck out of here, dude. This garbage pseudoscience, like genuinely just garbage. You can't even believe it rose to the level of like being accepted in academic institutions, but then again, you know, they give awards to people like Fauci. Anyway, they're, they have none. So, okay, yes, that is my bias, but also it's a bias toward the truth. Okay, but just looking at this Ben, how do you go? You're go, look, obviously, this isn't just like a problem in our country, Rob, but the problem that is coming to define our country is that we're passing on a system to the next generation that overwhelmingly looks like it is not going to work for like anybody. Now, this is the real issue here, Rob. It's not just like where unaffordability has gotten us to. It's the fact that clearly there's no end in sight. We all know, even if people can't put their finger on it quite the way me and you try to on this show, Rob, we all know that we're going in this direction where things are just going to be more and more expensive and that wages are not going to keep up with the rate of growth, right? And that the currency is being more and more devalued. And you get to a point where we're like, we're not far off from it. It's true in major cities. We're essentially like, you really almost got to be a millionaire to be like, you're doing okay. It's like, it's like not that far off from that. We're like, you really got to be doing, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration. But for sure, people like the next generation is having, there's this huge kind of epidemic of people who are like, you know, make 70K a year and are still being helped by their dad and are still being helped by their mother, still because they want to live in a city. And it's just too expensive to live there. There's a, and you're coming in here and you have nothing to say to these kids about any of that. Like you just have nothing. And your only comment is just to like sell this like, oh, we got to be hawkish with Russia and hawkish with a round. And let me tell you, we've done more damage to them than they have to us. So yes, I know your burritos got more expensive, but we don't need to focus on that. Like you're, you're not even attempting to speak to the struggle of these young people who have some very legitimate struggles. And you just watch this and you go, dude, you're going to lose, you're going to lose to the socialists 100 out of a hundred times because they're at least speaking to something that might matter to those kids. Something about their country, about their problems, about their costs, the actual barriers for them. You know, like there is, this is like a very real scenario, like a real person. And by the way, when you're talking at Turning Point USA, Rob, you're talking to a young person who's somewhat interested in politics. So it's like a person of that age. These are the guys. Like you talk to that, these are the kids who like are six figures in debt and are looking at a bullshit job market and houses are going for six, seven hundred grand. That's the world they're inheriting. You have nothing to say about it at all. Well, he's there selling a war. And so he doesn't want to get into the downside of the war, which is a cost of going up or that Donald Trump abandoned his America first pitch to the American public. And so those are all the things that he has no interest in addressing. And to the extent that Donald Trump has tried to influence economic policy, it's basically through socialist means of, hey, I'm going to send you a paycheck. I'm going to pay for this. We're going to have tariffs. We're going to essentially plan the economy. And so all of that has only basically given room to the democratic socialist to be better liars and go, hey, the game is rigged, but I'm going to come in with benefits for you. And I'm going to steal for other people from you. The lie there is that it's not actually going to work out in your favor because you're going to end up with rationing with goods or just cost going up. You're going to find that the things that you were looking for in thought government could provide for free are not actually free or not available. But everything that you're describing would make for a great Dave Smith speech for for Ben Shapiro who's trying to pretend that this war is not what is destroyed the Republican party or that it was actually a win for the American people and that this was for our strategic interest. The last thing he wants to get into is the fact that the economy is not great that it's screwing over kids and that Donald Trump has abandoned trying to address that. Yep. Here, let's let's get into some of the clips. Let's let's start with the wild one first, which was the guy who just kind of spazed out on Ben Shapiro, which you know, I don't know. Not particularly helpful, but I did find this moment to be kind of revealing and you just won't, you can't believe how Ben Shapiro handles this. So let's say here America is waking up, is the name of the tweet, but yeah, it's that it's the first one I believe that I sent today in that way. Let's let's jump into this. The Prince of Madison here. Ben Shapiro, should I call you Ben Israel? My friend, the enemy here is not the left. The enemy of the Epstein Kabbal who works for Israel. And we know who you are loyal to, my friend. The enemy are the people who are taking our tax dollars to shoot and drug up. A Palestinian five years old girl shot by 600 bullets funded by American taxpayer. This is 1948. We are no longer welcoming aid to Israel. You are the enemy. Trump is a pedophile and even he's not releasing the Epstein file. Let's not lie to our self, my friend. Everything is clear. Everything is obvious. Who are you loyal to? Ben Shapiro, Israel or America? Say it right now. America. You are saying against Israel, Israel, Israel. We are United States of America and we are not United States of Israel. Israel onto my leg right now. Israel will not win America. You will say Trump the pedophile who is hiding their things. Well, that was a deeply convincing argument. I must say that you screaming over and over Israel from some pedophile. I don't find it wildly convincing. What I do think is that you are demonstrating a complete lack of any sort of knowledge about anything and screaming. Like it's not. Performatively is not actually from convincing anyone. There's no, listen, there's no response to people who are going to get up there and just yell like assholes. Let me be very clear about this. Let's settle this right now. Okay. Me and you on the stage in a boxing match. USA versus Israel. All right, so you know what? Actually, we could pause right here, but don't leave the video because I want to play or I mean, you can put it down, but I don't want to, I want to go back to this. But look, Rob, I'd say up to here because it's really the end with Ben Shapiro says next that I want to focus on. But up to here, I will say, this almost reminded me of like old school Ben Shapiro. You know, like this is what he's good at handling is a, is a person yelling kind of Adam. By the way, I will say if you're that guy, not helping your cause, not even so, I don't know that your cause and my cause are the same cause, although you're trying to make Ben Shapiro look bad, and that is awfully close to my cause. But you are not helping your cause whatsoever. In fact, this is what Ben Shapiro is good at defeating. I chanting USA in a thick, thick accent maybe isn't the way to go at Ben Shapiro. I will just point out that Ben Shapiro's own one against a speed bag. I don't know if you ever seen that video of him in a law school when he manages to get hit in the head with the speed bag, he just punched and it starts like crying. Look, I will say this is what Ben Shapiro really has been, I guess one of his skills, not really that hard of a skill, but this is one of the things he's been able to do throughout his career is kind of deal with people who are being hysterical like this and say a little bit of a clever thing and then cut, but he ends up saying something after this that I just found I just couldn't not pounce on this. So let's play the rest of the clip until the end here. Here's okay, so here is my response. I have a verse, I have a to you again.
See, okay, I'm going to shut the fuck up. [ Cheers and applause ] You have nothing relevant to say. [ Cheers and applause ] You have no arguments to make. You have slogan-earing bullshit. You're spewing about me, about the United States, about the presidents of the United States. You have nothing of merit. So here's what I would recommend. Go read a book, get a job. Do something useful with your life. [ Cheers and applause ] [ Music ] [ Music ] [ Music ] Sorry. [ Music ] They're not sending their best. They're not sending their best. There it is, Rob. There it is. We can cut this video off right now. That -- you don't get to say any more, Ben Shapiro. I'm sorry. You don't get to say they're not sending their best. They've sent all of their best. Their best have been knocking at your door for the last three years, really, for the last 15 years. The best critics of Israel have all been trying to debate you and no, I am not referring to myself, but I'm on the list of people who's been trying with it. They're not sending their -- Oh, see, Ben Shapiro loves to sit here. And this is -- the thing is that, like, dude, I'm sorry. You can't go back to this. This be the only type of competition you're willing to face. And then go read a book and get a job. Hey, Ben, I've read a book. I've read several. And I have the same job as you. Oh, yes, so you won't do that. You won't have that debate. You won't have that conversation. It's just me against anybody, against any competent critic of Israel, of this war, of any of it. He won't debate anyone, but then he wants to say, "Oh, get a book and get a job." And they're not sending their best. No, that's all you're willing to take on. But the nerve of you to sit there and go, "Oh, geez." This is -- it's almost like -- because I'm sorry, dude -- but, like, and look, they'll always be someone, right? They're, in fact, there are at all times, Rob. This is what it's like to be me and my career. At all times, there are, like, a handful of the new guys or maybe up-and-comers, or maybe never are going to be, or maybe we'll be future stars, or whatever. But there's new guys who want to debate me. And they say, "I'm ducking them." You know, they go, "Oh, why won't he come debate me?" You know, whatever. It's like, you know, they're mad. They have to work their way up to -- or something at this point. But, look, within reason, you could go, "Okay, Dave's done, like, fucking, you know, 58 debates on this topic." He's really willing to debate the topic. He's willing to do this. I will do this against a very competent opponent, as well as some embarrassing ones. Ben Shapiro has debated no one ever, ever, on this topic. He absolutely just refuses to. He's been challenged up and down and will not do it. The nerve of him to still use this excuse. Oh, this is the best I got. As if he's positioning himself as if he's someone like me, or somebody who's like, "Hey, dude, I've taken on everyone here, and this is still the best that they can come with." You don't get to say that, last part, when you refuse to do the first part. Very insulting to those of us who do, to just jump right to the ladder. Does that make sense? Yeah, a fair critique. I didn't make it that far. I made it to when the kid threatened to box him. And I was like, "Oh, this is just stupid." Well, that is, yes, that is stupid. And also it is really, again, like that guy, if you're there because I guess there's like, not a higher than zero percent chance that that guy, or someone who might want to be like that guy, would listen to us. And if you do want to hear anything from us, don't do that. You make Ben Shapiro look good. You give him the win on that little, listen, man, these ideas are like, I understand it's easy when it comes to, for whatever reason, due to human psychology, and some of this makes sense. There are issues that people get very passionate about. And there are issues when it comes to policy and when it comes to like government, they evoke this kind of like, you know, swelling of the heart and emotion. And obviously when there's something like war or genocide on the table, there's obvious reasons. Why emotions are so high? But all of these ideas, man, these are like powerful forces. You may not realize it, you know? Like you may, it's more obvious. If you're throwing a punch at someone's face, you're a little bit more aware of what you're doing. Like, you know, I'm using power right now against this guy to harm him. Like ideas are powerful too. And you do have a little bit of a responsibility. You're going to start throwing them around to know the first thing you're talking about. You know, you want to get Ben Shapiro? Get them. Go there with a good like point to get them on. But don't know this like threatening to, you know, let's box. The fuck does that prove, dude? Get out of here. All right, guys, let's take a moment and think our sponsor for today's show, which is Quince, which is an unbelievable company. I love them. I've got a bunch of stuff from them already. Quince.com/poTP for free shipping and 365 day returns. Quince.com/poTP. All right, let's get back into the show. Anyway, yeah. So that's dumb and yelling at him like that is dumb and stuff too. But I just thought it was truly remarkable that Ben Shapiro has the nerve to still be out there acting as if, I don't know, this is the best they got. Again, let me tell you something. He's telling that kid to read a book and get a job. Let me tell you something. That kid, that's good advice. Read a book and get a job. I will give you the same advice. There's only one downside that comes rob with reading one book and getting a job. Is that Ben Shapiro will never debate you again? That's your loss. That's what you lose. But that is well worth it to loot like in your own life for your own enrichment. Reading a book is way more important than debating Ben Shapiro again. Okay. Anyway, let's go to the, let me see here. Forget the next one I sent because that one was having some trouble. But go to student confronts Ben Shapiro on Israel's genocide. A genocidal intent. I thought this one was, was an interesting clip. This was a little bit calmer. And thank you so much for coming here tonight. I'm a government major and I have a question pertaining to your thoughts on Israel. You have long denied that what is currently happening in Gaza could constitute a genocide. Parts we do each will lack of intent. But I would like to ask how does pelting five year old Henry job with 355 bullets. Well, she was trapped in a burning car surrounded by her dead family members. She was trapped in a burning car surrounded by her dead family members. And she was trapped in a burning car surrounded by her dead family members. intent that Israel was trying to wipe out the
higher population, which again is not the legal standard for genocide. It just isn't. Now, if that were the case, Ben Shapiro would have an argument, but that's not the legal standard, and that's not what people on the other side of the argument are saying. And in fact, Rob, I think we went through this, right? But there's five different examples that could be acts of genocide that any one of them with the intent could be considered a genocide. And one of them is creating unlivable conditions. So like destroying an entire area, so Ben Shapiro is like, no, we moved the civilian, but like they almost rob, they almost have to use ethnic cleansing as a defense for genocide. They have to go, no, no, no, we cleansed all the civilians out of the area before we made it unlivable. Like this is the level of defense that they're at. And that is just, I don't know, man, it is such a creepy demonic place to be in where you're going, he's like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, understand Rob. We only killed 100,000 of them in the process of moving them out of their homes, then destroying their homes, never to return again. Where will they go? We haven't announced it yet. Like this is what they've got going into defend. And then of course, you know, I don't know Rob, his example, yeah, I guess he's right. One war crime does not a genocide make, but it does get you to start questioning all this stuff about exactly what intent means, an intentionality and how humane this military force is. It's kind of obvious the point there, I don't know, thoughts on any of that. Yeah. Well, I mean, the biggest one is when he says trying to kill everyone in full and the definition clearly says in part. So that's a nice diversion tactic. But then even on the original one, which is, well, you know, that's just an accusation and we got to wait for, yeah, okay, we got to wait for what the Israelis have to say about it. The ones who for what a full year we're telling you that the Gaza health ministry numbers were incorrect, like who told us that the hospital needed to be bombed because there was a tunnel underneath. And then we found out Israel had put that tunnel there or whatever that was at the beginning of the war. I mean, like, hey, Israel says it isn't. So, you know, it wasn't, and you got to trust the terrorists that it was. So actually that's not even a valid accusation. Okay. I guess fine. And remember when they used to like dispute early, the thing, oh, they're trying to make it look bad, like Israel hit this hospital, but actually it was a Hamas rocket that went off in the park and a lot of the hospital in the hospital still there, which they were right about that one. If you remember, there was that one hospital where some people got over their skis and said Israel hit it. It turned out Israel didn't hit it. It was still standing. And where that hospital is today, it's destroyed, Rob, because Israel destroyed all of the hospitals in Gaza. Like, they were arguing over things that now were just like, there's not even an argument anymore. Like, you destroyed all of them. You weren't, like, it wasn't even, and, and then they go, well, yeah, but that's a good thing. Like, the same ones who were defending that anyway. This is why they, you know, they don't want to be engaged in a debate where people can counter these points. All right, guys, let's take a moment and thank our sponsor for today's show, which is Ultra, do you desperately need a nicotine pouch every 15 minutes just to feel normal? One more time, take ultra dot com promo code problem for 15% off. All right. Let's get back into the show. Anyway, let's, here, let's keep playing the end of this, we're going door to door and having their limbs blown off by literally the thousands, I know many of them. In order to not kill Palestinian civilians, you'd have to explain why Israel shipped in two million tons of egg. You'd have to explain why Israel gave a million polio shots, you'd have to explain why it is. Again, just pause it here. Again, these are the things they say. It's amazing because it's like, I guess there's just no defending it, maybe, is the answer. But I was going to say, man, the atrophy when they won't debate and test these talking points out, I mean, I don't know, I can't really think of a good example, but I'm sure all of us got to like the people who debate a lot have a bunch of like kind of points that you just end up abandoning because they don't hold up well. You're like, yeah, that was a bad way to say it or that was a bad argument or that was, that left me open to this counter or something like that. This is just such a bad argument that since when would this be have, well, then you'd have to explain how they got food at all. It would almost be Rob like, imagine, imagine you were, you were debating a Holocaust denier and the way I approached it was to argue with me with you and go, well, if Hitler's intent was to kill all of the Jews while he even take him to the camps to begin with, why not just shoot him on the trains. They had a ton of bullets, you know, like if I were to point to bullets that the guards had but didn't use, if I was to point to food that Jews got at a concentration camp or I had a death camp or something, I mean, I get, I don't even exactly know the details of this rob, right? But I know there were people who kept in those camps for months and months and months and I know people can't live for months and months and months with that food, right? It's like someone was getting food to them. What does that have to do with anything? Nobody ever judges a crime based on the non-criminal other things that they may have done. Nobody ever says, I'd like to enter into evidence this time that OJ took Nicole Simpson out to eat and fed her real well. In fact, they only focus on the time he murdered her at the trial. That's like the whole day that they spend, you know, all the attention on was that part. That is not true. I mean, they might mention how he used to beat her up before he, well, I guess he didn't do it according to them. Anyway, the point is to Ben Shapiro that it's like, what does this mean to say there were polio vaccines and food shipped in? It just has nothing. It doesn't, that doesn't mean then you're allowed to do this. It doesn't even kind of counter the fact. Also, polio vaccine sounds like you probably don't want your soldiers getting polio. It's quite possible, quite possible here. Let's play the end. Is effectively the same size today, thanks to birth rate, as it was before the Gaza War, none of that looks like a genocide. There's literally been no war that has been fought in an urban terrain of this magnitude that has a better, and there's no such thing as good, obviously, but that it has a more effective civilian to terrorist kill ratio and using Hamas statistics. Calling that a genocide, you have to call literally everywhere there's ever been fought a genocide. So if you want to do that, then you just have to get rid of the word genocide, it doesn't mean anything. And citing individual instances, even if you were going to say that the hindra-hob situation went down exactly the way Palestinian said it, that would still not answer the question. So this notion that hindra-hob being massacred is only a palace in Europe is actually disproved. The idea of admitted that they shot at hindra-hob and emergency aid workers, even though the PCRS and the Gaza Health Ministry coordinated with the Israeli military to let in passage, to get rescue to hindra-hob, but they subsequently shot her. They first said that, "Oh, we didn't do that. We weren't operating in the area," but the video audio recording came out of her phone call with the emergency services. And they were like, "Yes, we did shoot her. We did shoot the aid workers." And then they said, "We're running an investigation." Sorry. Can you please let me finish? Okay. I would prefer you not address the entirety of the speech because there are other people who want to ask questions. Oh, yes. Okay. And again, I'm perfectly willing to acknowledge that the IDF originally said they weren't in the area. And then admitted that they were in the area. So why did they lie? Why did they lie in multiple occasions, including the 15 Palestinian aid workers and also the shooting of the UN? Okay, first up. Okay. Now can I answer your question? Because you did hit a question mark at the end of that sentence. Okay. Go ahead. Okay. So the actual answer is that Israel has to do a full-scale investigation of every single one of these incidents, while Hamas simply claims the human rights atrocity any time anyone gets killed. And so it takes a lot of time for Israel to respond to every one of these charges. The idea of Israel did not suggest, the IDF certainly did not suggest that they purposely targeted aid workers. What they suggested is that there was error in the targeting of the aid workers because it turns out that Hamas frequently massacred the raids as aid workers while pursuing terror activities. That is just a real thing. We have heard. So we need a person out. Hold it at the end of there. Again, I guess really the takeaway from this here is that this is the only way Ben Shapiro will engage in the debate. And I mean, I guess just a point, yeah, dude, this is the game that they play and it's so ridiculous. It's that they go, well look, Hamas claims everything is in atrocity. It's like, which is true?
But also is like there's they largely end up getting proven correct. Then they'll say, well, the IDF has to hold a big investigation into this. But Rob, I mean, literally for people who pay attention in the news, for three years you read about one of these events every single day. I mean, this one was particularly horrific, but every day, there was another story. They were killed like over a hundred Palestinians a day for a while there. And every day you'd read horrible stories about this. And every time they say the IDF is going to investigate. And also, by the way, we're not going to allow any journalists in. And so then Ben Shapiro can sit there and say, well, Hamas just claims it's an atrocity. We investigate. So we're so much better than them. What a bullshit game. What an obvious bullshit game. And by the way, while they've done that, Rob, we know just because we can fly drones and we got satellites, it's the only way we know that, oh, what they did is they destroyed the entire Gaza Strip. Even what Ben Shapiro is going to go like, but Rob, these bullshit numbers about the like the death rate or something like that, like, all right, let's say that's it. Let's say it's just 72,000 or whatever the number that Hamas says it is right now. It's like also like Rob, can you, like you could, listen, dude, you could see some war torn areas, man. If you want to look at some of the worst, you know, damage of the global war on terrorism, but you can never find any, you just cannot find a situation where it looks like Gaza where they moved two million people out of there and are like, they've just absolutely destroyed their home. It didn't happen. And like also, Rob, I mean, obviously there's something to be said for, you know, just the Israel Palestine dynamic is just different than the US Iraqi dynamic was. We didn't militarily occupy them for fucking the last 60 years before we did this. It's just different. It's a different thing. Anyway, there's, I don't know. I guess one of the reasons why I just found all this so interesting, Rob, is that here you have the dynamic, right? It's almost come full circle. As you see, weirdly, the rise of woke one, you know, coming back or something like that as we were talking about in the beginning. And then here's Ben Shapiro 10 years later, right? But 10 years ago, it was going to be Ben Shapiro, like taking on all these young people who, you know, were arguing all this dumb woke shit. And I guess it was at least implied, although I certainly think it was true in a lot of ways, Rob, that like the professors were almost afraid to tangle with him. So all that was left was the 18 year olds would come out. You know, these 18 year olds will come out to essentially yell at him and have nothing and he'd destroy all of them. And now you flip it around. And it's an attorney point USA event. He's got to deal with those young kids. They're the ones now. And now it's almost like a dynamic where all of their professors really want to debate him, you know, professors and the people who people are listening to and getting a lot of this information from. All of them would love to go debate Ben Shapiro, Ben Shapiro is just afraid to do it with any of them. But I mean, I'm just saying, dude, you want someone who has a job and has read a book, forget, leave me out of it, Glenn Greenwald, there's a name for you, Ben Shapiro, go debate Glenn Greenwald. I bet you'll notice that he has a job and he's read some books and he will tear your shit apart. And there's a reason why you won't do that because you'd rather go deal with that guy and go, this is the best they have or even deal with this kind of thoughtful young woman who's just obviously is not up to the challenge of like debating Ben Shapiro and is doing it from the stands with people, you know, talking behind her and will maybe get one follow-up question like that's. I don't know. In today's world, man, that's in this industry today. It's just such cowardice to create this illusion. I think there's a wildly convening argument to go listen on this specific instance. It takes time for them to investigate. If I was slaughtering all of my neighbors and then someone said, hey, you can't slaughter all your neighbors and I was like, well, it's going to take some time to investigate that that's what I was doing, you know, that doesn't happen. I get arrested, you stop it and then you've investigated. It's very convenient when you're at government and you go, well, we're going to continue this exact activity and you can't criticize us because we haven't investigated our own activities yet. Yes, and especially when you won't let media in, like media without even investigatory powers or arresting powers, but just the power of like we can try to get down, they can investigate, they can investigate in the sense of try to figure out what happens not to arrest or use force in any way. But it's like even that, you won't allow it. Okay. But yeah, Rob, as I'm going and slaughtering my neighbor, you know, every time I go over there, they call it, they don't even differentiate between when they were fighting back, but we investigate every time. That's really the claim here. All right. That'll be our show for today. Catch you guys tomorrow. Peace.
Podcast Summary
Key Points:
Shane Gillis' return to *Saturday Night Live* after backlash reflects a resurgence of "woke one" ideology, despite its earlier defeat in mainstream culture.
The reaction to Gillis' controversial gym-related joke reveals a hyper-sensitivity to comedy, with institutions now policing content under the guise of political correctness.
The internet has replaced traditional media as the dominant force in cultural visibility, shifting power from corporate gatekeepers to viral content.
Wokeism’s re-emergence is marked by more aggressive, less rational responses from the right, who now use reactionary rhetoric to discredit dissent, often without debate.
Ben Shapiro’s refusal to engage with critics on Israel’s actions in Gaza—relying on vague justifications like "investigations" and "intent"—exposes a pattern of avoidant, performative debate.
The political and economic backlash against "woke" policies shows that institutions often lose ground when policies face public scrutiny and market rejection.
Young people face severe economic hardship, with rising costs and stagnant wages, a reality that mainstream conservative figures largely ignore in favor of war narratives.
The idea that "genocide" requires intent is being weaponized to justify both denial and overreach, highlighting a lack of accountability in both Israeli and Palestinian narratives.
Summary:

There is significant backlash over Shane Gillis hosting for a third time, particularly due to a controversial joke about women dressing like whores at the gym. Critics argue that the reaction is disproportionate and reflects a resurgence of 'woke' politics, despite the joke being widely recognized as a common reality.
The hosts observe a re-emergence of 'woke' ideology, particularly in the form of overreaction to comedy, where even minor content is treated as offensive. This is seen as a return to past patterns, such as the Duke Lacrosse case, and is viewed as politically motivated rather than based on genuine concern for equality.
The hosts criticize Ben Shapiro for refusing to engage in meaningful debate on Israel's actions in Gaza, instead relying on evasion tactics like claiming there was no genocide or citing isolated incidents. They argue he avoids real accountability and dismisses serious allegations with weak counterpoints.
Public sentiment has shifted from the early 2010s 'woke' backlash to a more resilient cultural environment, where internet-driven content and viral moments now dominate over traditional media. Critics argue that the market has rejected extreme political censorship, allowing comedians like Shane Gillis to return.
