Sex and the City S2E8: "The Man, the Myth, the Viagra” with Ali Macofsky

Coach and Spotify are launching the Tabby Tour to blend music and style, offering live events, personalized playlists, and exclusive experiences across the U.S. Coca-Cola promotes its "for everyone" campaign, emphasizing inclusivity across all life styles and personalities. The podcast episode dives into personal and cultural narratives around relationships, masculinity, and self-expression. Hosts reflect on pivotal moments—like first kisses, karaoke, and intimate interactions—that shape emotional connections. A central theme is the evolving role of vulnerability and confidence in dating, where men now seek desirability and emotional connection over traditional sexual performance. The conversation also explores gender dynamics, such as the shift from male-led performance to mutual attraction, and the importance of authenticity in social settings. Personal stories highlight how small, seemingly ordinary moments—like a dry bar visit or a surprise performance—can become deeply meaningful. The episode underscores a broader cultural shift: people are increasingly seeking connection through shared vulnerability, not just physical or performative displays. These moments, from karaoke to first dates, reveal how identity and intimacy evolve in a world that values authenticity over conformity.

samantha draws the line just kind of an old man but you can't do this you just did yeah it was haunting it was like obsession vibes he was in the corner of the room welcome back to girls rewatch a podcast about girls tv and girls on tv i'm amelia retaller and i'm evan lazarus and today we are covering season two episode eight the man to myth the viagra whoa whoa and joining us in the studio today la legend ali makovsky oh crowd goes wild amelia was telling me when she first moved to la people would compare her to you because you both really people would be like um oh you're like that girl ali whoa and i was like noted i'm immediately feeling outnumbered i think i'm with a blowout i will say i see it i get it i saw i went on a hinge date to the hollywood improv in 2021 you were on the lineup and i bullied a man um who was doing crowd work and i was like you're just bullying a woman and i was like wondering deep and i was like can you just like that's not funny can you not bully her and then the guy like came up to me after the show and was like i don't remember who he was but i was like walking to my car and he was in his car and he was like hey i'm really sorry i just like hate myself in my life it's like nothing to do with women and i was like i don't know what to do with you and i was like i don't know what to do with you i'm sorry that's crazy was it in the small room or the big room i feel like it was it was like horizontal vibes was it in a bar it was like the one where you like there's like table in front of you okay and it was like mostly empty that night okay i'm imagining jesus like 13 apostles when you were saying long table was it like the big room or was there a bar in the room it was the big room it was like the big room it was like the big room it was like the big room it was like the my hinty um ghosted me oh no which i think is makes sense who else was on this show now i'm like trying to go back with like long hair craig conant they're like i would not recognize him we haven't used one noun yet by the way in a lineup if the entire lineup was there i'd only be able to be like the girl ali oh yay um but you were great thank you i was like thank god there's a woman on the stage yeah yeah say that part again i feel like every show in la right now has one woman on the lineup isn't it that's amazing for to be you though like that must feel good no because then if i don't do well then people are like well women aren't funny and i'm like well put three and have at least one that's not maybe not funny for them to represent for them to make you represent 54 of the population yeah and then also like then you don't get to talk to a girl backstage exactly 54 of the population yeah right is another thing i don't think so you you of anyone i know would know the population it's like it's like 49 to 51 it's like 49 men 51 women and it's even like closer to 50 every day really i think we need to stop doing boy babies yeah of course that wasn't even up for discussion before you even think that was on the table the long table at that one underscore bar it's it better not be a fucking boy i'm like yes girl you need to brace yourself for a boy it's a different lifestyle it's so much easier imagine a woman in your life i know you just don't know what kind of shape or color you're gonna get on facebook there's all these like facebook shorts of like a gender reveal where it's a girl and the husband and the wife both look devastated it's so sad i'm like why have a baby if you're gonna be yeah it's close to elitism to have a why not because they are they have such easy access to balayage and it's like it's hard men don't have the same access and that's the east coast privilege that is most i think they have just as much access no you'd be surprised no okay okay well my experience of trying to get balayage in my life has always been easy i do feel like new york isn't as accessible for like beauty stuff for balayage for anything really i feel like la is kind of the mecca for looks maxing by the way i was out a dry bar in downtown la an hour and a half ago and it looks great thank you she gave me a mimosa and i had to have it yeah you must well i just was like the dry bars in la aren't very good no like i could tell it's like whenever i go to a dry bar i'm like this would have been awesome 10 years ago yeah and like i'm the last girl standing yeah it feels like the job when you've been a babysitter and then you're like what do i do after this and it's like well if you were a and you could tell i could tell the the girl doing my hair like it's not her specialty that's not our thing totally but you're a babysitter you can do dry bar yeah i feel like that's like the next job after babysitting and what's after there's nothing after dry bar and then you become a botox inserter oh yeah but you have to be certified for that i don't know the girls at the clinic i went to to get the salmon sperm facial i was like okay so you just can you believe they have a nursing background yeah that's hard for you to believe yeah i know well when i get oh you know what it is you know what's after iv drips i feel like the people who do iv drips it's like they wore a nurse or they were almost a nurse and then like something fucked happened yeah so i think it's babysitting dry bar iv drip and then the dentist i go to that's actually just a startup for collecting data oh shout out wally so they get a four-year degree i cannot do iv drips anymore i must get a four-year degree i swear to god the people cleaning my teeth at this startup are literally they just graduated from dry bar the fact that even startup is in the like how you introduce your dentist is concerning there shouldn't like dentists have been around since the dark ages yeah and the fact that there's like a startup it should just be the dentist doing dry bar for course credit is awesome for course credit yeah i got my master's in dry bar it's kind of beautiful i love it wait so ali what's your journey with sex in the city because you don't live in new york so you're like does this have nothing to do with me are you like this is my life i feel like sex in the city it doesn't matter where you are you can relate to these women and you can glamorize the city lifestyle so if you're like a boring a boring dry bar hair tech and you know minneapolis you watch sex in the city and you go that was literally me last weekend at o'malley's pub like even though they're like living this gorgeous lifestyle and you're like you know in milwaukee being like these are my girls work and i think growing up i don't know it's like they just feel as a kid watching it you feel grown you're like this is what i have to look forward to totally and this is real world problems and this is what being a woman is and i still feel that way watching it although being a woman is people are like oh i just want to like move to new york to have my carrie broadshaw moment and then i'm like oh my god it's like you want to be 32 an alcoholic a smoker and in a situationship with a man who's evil to you and it's like kind of yeah i guess yeah is there another option yeah i haven't heard i haven't heard that i haven't heard oh my god but i also think it's like a very there's a rhythm and a pace to it that is it's such a good background show yeah it's a good show to like watch and really lock into but it's also good for noise in the background yeah it's an aesthetic it's because it's so aesthetic as well yeah it just it feels like it complements any color scheme of any room because they're so good at pulling it it's almost a music video just going on in the living room as you walk right exactly yes but they play non-lyrical music which i think is a very refreshing take for any show yeah yeah please you know when you're having a dinner party and you like have some sort of like chill playlist in the background yeah this is the tv yeah yeah this is like yeah this is um what's that band? Pink Martini. It's very Pink Martini. Sounds amazing. Yeah. that's my gay uncle's favorite band no way you have a gay uncle you can't sidetrack us because you know we can do if you bring up a gay uncle then you know so what's his story tell us everything what's his experience with does he love the Dallas queer scene wait sorry no it's the same question it's the same question he has like a big group of gay men that he hangs out with he's married to a man named Gary Gary doesn't travel but Stephen loves to go on cruises so he has like a gay cruise posse oh my god Gary's at home is he cruising on the cruise my suspicions are yes because I'm like why are you going on so many cruises so I'm like something must be going on I think cruises are a last place for community for so many yeah I mean people the idea that you have to go on a boat in the middle of the ocean to hang out with other people that's actually so true though because I'm a big fan of community I love anything where there's community Gillian Jacobs in it yeah and that makes sense why I love cruises because you're seeing the same people you form these bonds I mean I still am friends with the girls I met in the teen club on my Alaskan cruise when I was 13 did you have like an orgy at the teen club because when I went on a cruise with my family and my stepsister was there we would like bring guys back to our room and girls and we'd have like oh we should all make out no a guy did try to kiss me if you had balayage Amelia it would have been different I actually had balayage then if you didn't have balayage in Alaska things would have been different I remember this guy Carlos wanted to kiss me outside my doorstep on the last night oh it's so romantic and I was like he likes Pokemon I don't want my first kiss to be a guy who likes Pokemon so I said no the restraint you have I was also deep Christian and the way I made two friends on the cruise is they were deep Christian's in Kansas and now they're both married I follow them on Instagram and they are always posting bible verses in their captions oh that's beautiful I first kissed the whole time the guy kept comparing it to Avatar the Last Airbender wait your first kiss was with a guy? that's so New York that's beautiful you could be who you were but it was on the Amtrak what about Avatar the Last Airbender he kept being like this is Aang so guitar coded and I was like okay and who am I in this equation I feel like the last of something your first kiss was on an Amtrak? was this someone you knew or were you just like horny on the Amtrak he was horny on the Amtrak and I was stuck was he like a man? no he's younger than me he found me though on the Amtrak and the whole kiss was he was comparing the hit Nickelodeon show to our experience I was like I hope you get off in Baltimore girl oh you're not talking about the movie Avatar the show the Airbender yes exactly fuck it'd be awesome if it was a movie though how old were you? I was 17 or 18 and how did he know? like how was it like was it like Carol where you know he's asking about I wasn't hiding anything I'll tell you that I came out gay long before I experienced it you know you can do that you can really do that I have my freak flag showing and maybe it's because my polo was flipped off like the collar and that's like you know it's like the hanky code on the Amtrak everyone knows that everyone knows that special polo trick and then how did he I'm like so invested it was like really quick actually so I was on the Amtrak my freshman year of college from American University back to New York and we he came on in a DC stop too and my I was meeting my friend Rebecca like further down the road I think even like in Pennsylvania so I was trying to save a seat for her and he was kind of getting off around that area so he kind of saw my collar up and he knew the universal hanky code so he came and sat down with me and we talked for a little bit and then I told him I never kissed someone and then he kissed me and then he was like oh my god it's his like avatar oh my god it's like how much younger was he we'll never find out and did you guys exchange info like how do we know what he's up to these days no we didn't you said we'll leave it here do you ever think like think about him aside from on podcasts um yeah he haunts me okay so this wasn't a great experience my first and last love you didn't play like spin the bottle in middle school or anything um like it's my I went to a trans what's it called transport trans a school for only trans people yeah all trans people traveled long distances to go to my middle school because it's only dyslexic only school in the area so people really came from wide and far so most of my friends lived in either Connecticut or Long Island there's schools just for dyslexic people yeah class size is only 90 whoa simple simple I even famously went to dyslexic middle school with Maya Hawk I didn't know her but she was there yeah I wonder if I have dyslexia because this whole time I've been thinking maybe I have early onset dementia because when I'm like writing I'll fumble but maybe it's just because I'm like no you have dementia I'm getting dementia I feel like I have dementia you probably have dyslexia one in ten people have it early onset dementia yeah and you're a high performing woman they often underdiagnose in women oh it's a real thing I'm autistic demented and dyslexic and dyslexic the shortening of dementia being demented is yeah my grandma's demented yeah she has no idea what my name is I guess we can talk about that episode if we dare okay yeah let's quickly do a summary for listeners so this is the episode well let's cut to our first break and when we get back we can dive oh we're gonna get to our first break and when we get back we're gonna dive into a little summary of the episode okay I've been walking around bloated everywhere okay I'm gonna bring up the g-word gut health I thought I was a goner in that territory thank god I got cowboy colostrum it's a bovine colostrum basically the first milk that comes from cows loaded with all the good stuff for your gut girl oh my god and I've been loving it and the data loves it too I'll tell ya because I recently saw that it said 83% of participants reported improved gut health 83? Amanda's like, absolutely fucking not. And then Samantha dates a 72-year-old millionaire. Classic Miranda. Yeah. And then Carrie wants Mr. Big to get to know her friends better. And, of course, it's like this whole thing. And famously, this is the episode where Miranda meets Steve when he's bartending at the bar that Carrie stood her up to. Bam. Boom. That breaks my heart. I know. I know. Well, let's go in order. So the episode starts. Carrie and Big are at date night at an Italian restaurant. They're being so cringy. So cringy. I'm like, Carrie, this is embarrassing. But also Carrie's being cringy. Yeah. Carrie, because, okay, it is kind of a cool move to be like, this is my spot. I know everyone. They even want me to sing. Like, this is where I go. They're begging me to sing. I must. And there is kind of a swagger to that when you go somewhere and it's like, oh, everyone knows him, even if it's just like a bunch of old Italian men. It still is like he's respected. What's in the community? Yeah. And it's almost cool that it's like multi-generational and cultural. It's like, okay, so he like has a life. He has a world. I love that every like we've covered Broad City and girls on this show. And it's like there's always an Italian restaurant where someone's doing a surprise performance. If we think about Broad City, Val comes out. She's doing she's doing Frank Sinatra. And then and Second City Panic in Central Park. Famously, they're doing like the most choreographed dance ever inside an Italian restaurant. I've never been to an Italian restaurant. It's been some music forward before. What? Don't do that to me because, you know, I'm half Italian. I you know what? I think it's kind of a lost art. It is because Chinatown took over. They don't know. It's mainly like Gen Z and vaping is why. Yeah. Yeah. And the suburbs. But I think it's like Carrie. Carrie. Because how long have her and Big been together at this point? They're like on and off. Yeah. So they had broken up and weren't together for six months. And then they just got back together. They got back together in like the last month or two. Because I'm like, OK, if he's saying it's like, don't be like, no, no. It's like if you're embarrassed by this, it's a red flag. Totally. Let him do it so you can get the full ick and move on with your life instead of being like, no, don't. I know. But I wondered if she was like, I don't want him to feel embarrassed later. Like he doesn't actually want to do this. He's drunk. And then he's like, no, this is literally my thing. Yeah. I do this every Friday. Yeah. I know she finds it the hardest thing on Earth. It's like a sense of vulnerability she has not achieved yet in her relationship. And to watch a man weirdly singing it. I mean, we all know karaoke, but it's very intimate. It is. It's a very vulnerable thing. And she's desperate because in that same interaction, big Carrie goes, you've never called me your girlfriend before. He goes, I have just behind your back. This is cynical. That was actually kind of cool. That's demented. No, that's like hot. No, I like that. That's really sexy. It's like, oh, so you're talking about me when I'm not around. So your bros know about me. Yeah, no, I think that's hot. And I think Carrie has such good. She's got such good like mood. Like, she's so like girl. She's so good at doing like. Like when he like she's like cracking up and she kind of like spits her wine up a little bit. But the way she does it, I'm like, I want to have sex with her now. She's so like flirty and hot. It's absolutely incredible. And she has like a low ponytail in this scene. And you're just like, this girl can do anything. I know to have a non sex forward hairstyle right now. And then you can still have. You can still have sex forward eyes and like a movement. That's amazing. Yeah. You would think that's what contradict, but she's able to hold both at the same time. Yeah. And then so big sings Frank Sinatra at her and she's like. What are men's like men? I guess big is Italian, but men have like insane fascination with Frank Sinatra. Because there's a earlier in a season begging Carrie gonna die in a fight. And he goes, I just listened to sing Sinatra for four hours. Right. Instead of actually crying. Well, that's their Sabrina Carpenter. Yeah. There's no pop stars for men. And I think Frank Sinatra was the last like pop star for guys where they could be like, I want to be that guy. Right. Yeah. That's so sad. Cause now it's like get their own Sabrina. What do they have? Like Zach, Brian, don't say the name Boone, Benson Boone, but Benson Boone is actually, I feel like it's a female audience. There's no Frank Sinatra. Well, I would argue there's no boys making music anymore. Like it's just pop girls. There's no boys making music for boys. Yeah. There's no boys for boys. Boys for boys should be the name of track boys for boys. I'm going to open up a, um, oh, we were making music, a music management company called boys for boys where I just get boys voices out there. That's what you've been trying to do. Yeah. I mean, at least LLC is called girls church. So every time we rent a car, they're like, and what's the name of our, she goes girl church, LLC. And like, you can email me@[email protected] and they're like, we're gonna, um, give you a safer car. Yeah. We have a suburban. Yeah. They're like, we got you a Prius. I think if there was more male singing for men, there would be less incels cause they'd have a voice. A hundred percent. I think, you know, the only thing they have right now is we are Charlie. That's the, that's a voice for boys song. I do think men are scared to do karaoke, which then is like the start of the incel slide. You know what I mean? Where it's like, if you're not karaoke with your friends. You're headed towards. Well, because you have to be, to not be an Intel, you have to be comfortable with embarrassment, public humiliation and shame and karaoke is the best place for that. So if you ever happen to stumble upon a big singing at an Italian restaurant or a man doing karaoke, you go, he's not gonna, he's not gonna murder me. He's not gonna hurt me. Yeah. Oh my God. This is like, everything is so confounding about men to me. Yeah. Every time I hear another factor, like breaks my brain because we're like not to fast forward too much in this episode. But. We're introduced Steve, who is like the prototypical, like beta male, as we describe, who is non-traditionally masculine. But he's not, he's not beta. It's just that Miranda is so alpha that he's forced into a beta cuck. He's tasting beta. He wants to be beta. He's more alpha than Scooter. Well, the thing is, this is the most alpha we ever see Steve. Okay. Yeah, fair enough. Deeper and deeper. Is his name Scooter? Scooter Braun? The young one. The young one. Before this. Oh yes. I'm sorry. You're right. It's Scooter. Yeah. Scooter from season one. That sounds right. Okay. Yeah. Scooter was like more beta cuck. Like, I feel like Steve is like, you can actually say my name and say, thank you. Like he starts kind of alpha and she's like, oh, I'm actually alpha bitch. And then he's like, okay. Yeah. He shows up to her apartment. And says, um, well, uh, you didn't give me your number and I wanted to tell you, I like you. No man is ever that brave anymore. That's so beautiful. I know. Men need to take risks. It's true. It's true. Yeah. They do. And they're so afraid. They're so afraid. I mean, the thing is, when a man does take a risk, we will turn so quickly and be like, what the hell are you fucking doing? You. But that's why I'm saying do karaoke. There's no happy median. Yeah. Do karaoke. So you can deal with embarrassment. True. In that way, when you go to Miranda's doorstep and get rejected, you're not like, I'm going to kill you, bitch. Yeah. I'm going to stalk you. So I think on this very podcast, you guys are going, oh, biggest thing inside the restaurant. How crazy. How crazy. And now a man is doing karaoke. And you guys are going. And then you're like the other man. You go. That's perfect. We're being completely correct and nuanced about it. I know. I know. I know. Change our opinions and our minds. Because as soon as I said, that's cringy. I go. Actually, I like it. He's bold. He's bold. And he is. He's making a strong choice. Yeah. He's expressing himself. OK. OK. You know, I take it. Listen, I don't. It's also. I don't want there to be a right thing. I agree. I had to be there at that restaurant. Yeah. I don't want to hear him. Yeah. I don't want to be a patron being like. Well, you know what? I'm part of the community here. I would always be like, oh, there's like the classic thing, like, oh, men playing music for you. So cringy. And I think for the most part, that's true. But one time I had a man play music for me and I loved it. Really? I thought it was so beautiful. Was it Wonderwall? No, he was playing. He was playing that song by her. Yes. She's right. It's Wonderwall. Her? Her. It's. I don't know. But it was. It was great. I'm sure because it's an intimate experience. Yeah. So my question actually, it provokes a question, it's like if a man carries a book, we perceive it as performative, but also it's like. Depends on the book. 47% of people are not reading even a book in a year in this country. Depends on the book. One time I was at a coffee shop, a guy walked in with a book and of course he's begging for me to see what the book is. He's like. And it was. Cheating out. Emotional intelligence 2.0. And I go, that's a home book. Right. No, no, no, no. We keep that in the home. The way I like, that's my purse. Yeah. I'm like, wait, you're reading that right now. Like I have a string on it. I'm going around. It's beautiful. Okay. Wait. So we cut across town and Miranda's at the most haunted comedy club date. I mean, this was. That's you at the improv. Yeah. The way it was. Literally. It flashed me back to that specifically. It's you at the improv. It really was like. I felt like this episode was so tailored to me being the guest, it felt so spiritually connected. No, literally when I saw. That's why we did it. When I saw that scene. It was perfect for Allie. Cause the last time I saw her was there. Yeah. You hold masculine and feminine energy so well, like very balanced. Whoa. And it is. It's good. Good for you. Thank you. It's awesome. Thanks. That's like marketable. Okay. I'm like, let's talk to HBO. Yeah. No, that's what the people are craving right now. Let's figure out the brand. What's the brand? No, you have it. Masculine, feminine. You have it. It's perfect. It's what people crave and needed in the marketplace even. That guy was so aggressive. The comedian. Oh my God. Why can't they do comedy? Why can't they never do standup comedy on TV well? No, he was. Even when they film a special, like even when they film specials. Yeah. It just doesn't translate at all. I feel like he was being very accurate. That's exactly what that guy was like. Yeah, totally. Unfortunately, it is accurate, but it's so painful. He's like, hey, bitch. No, and to see it perfectly shot, I'm like, I like just experiencing in real life and not being able to put words to it. To see it represented actually scared me a little bit. For him to make crowd war clips in that very scene was awesome. Oh, my God. He would have crushed on YouTube posting that. He would have crushed on Reels. The wife. Oh, my God. Comedian destroys relationship. Wife. Yeah. Right for the 90s. Yeah. I'm like, wait, that would have been incredible. But he did have a good jawline and it looked manufactured. He was actually kind of cute. That's who you find cute. It's so funny. Every day you're going back and forth. Who's cute on this show or not? I mean, I mean, he's kind of cute. It's a lot of just like direct contrast of things you've said in the past. Miranda's day is ugly as sin. Miranda's on a date with an architect who's ugly as sin. And she. Oh, they met up because they bumped into each. Other at the food emporium at where they bonded over their shared hatred of designer. There's another. And Charlotte's dating an architect. These architects are running New York City. Yeah. So many buildings. Yes. A lot of buildings. They don't have architects for buildings anymore. The food emporium sounds like a broke place. I know. Right. Sounds like we've got everything. It's the 99 cent store. Yeah. We have everything. But. Mostly canned. Architects and lawyers. The lawyers are there. So maybe we don't know. And they're talking about the designer. The designer croutons. Which what could that mean? What is that? You don't know about designer croutons. I'm like, is this before they had brands? And this is the first branded crouton. It's so odd. It's probably sourdough. Whatever. Oh, maybe it's like bagel crisp when they're like, we do different flavors now. Maybe they have a brand on it. Like it's Fundy. Yeah. That'd be fun. Brandy Melville croutons. Brandy Melville has a cafe in LA. Wait, what? Okay. Yeah. Also, my stomach is grumbling so loudly. And I feel like it is. No, I'm not even hungry. I think it's just my coffee's brewing in my stomach. It's fermented. Can we do a de-stomach rumble effect on the mic? Yeah, I feel like whoever's editing, there needs to be a filter for the. Bring it up. Because it's crazy loud. That's your masculine. It's boring. Just note to editor. Note to editor. But okay. So there on a day, the guy said that he's been divorced for three years. He is still with his wife, but separated anyways. He leaves to pay the check because they got to get out of there early. And then the comic is like, let's do crowd work on Red. To call her just like, hey, Red. She's like, hi. She's amazing at playing an audience member. I'm like, this is how they would be. But the phone rings. It's his. And he's like, pick it up, pick it up. And she's like, it's not mine. And she's like, fine. Alan Miller's phone. And they're like, who is this? And then it's like, the wife. And then the guy is like, oh. The wife. The wife. Well, let's only let actors just be actors. That's a problem. Yeah. Well, in the same way that Miranda's so good at being an audience member, it's similar to how good Carrie is at flirting. Like, when I was watching, I'm like, that would be so hard to act. Because it feels so natural. Like, the way that she, like, is moving and kind of being like a little bit of a pick me. Like, you know, when you become completely fake around a man. Yeah. Like, she's somehow so tiny all of a sudden. Yeah. And she's like. Like, it's just so natural. Yeah. And, like, the actors of today wouldn't be able to do that in a way we believe. No. I mean, like, Rachel's on it. No. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Carrie really nails the flirting and the being, like, a different person around a man. I think that's why everyone does clowning now. Oh. Oh, yeah. Because they want to feel in touch with themselves. Yeah. And, like, move in their body. Is that a part of your life here? No, I'm not. I'm not participating in clowning at this moment. Totally. Should I do that? But I'm open to it. Now that Connor's story is, you know, hot shit. I'm like, well, if he. If he clowned. If he was clowning here? Yeah, he was clowning here. Oh, my God. And he was taking improv. He was at the Groundlings. The girl we're staying with, he was in one of her music videos before fame. No way. Before fame, he was doing Skylar's music video. That's incredible. I know. Okay, so she gets called out. He's been dating someone. He's been married. He lied about being divorced. He said, oh, we're separated. We're separated. Okay. It doesn't matter. Semantics are semantics. Yeah. And then Miranda leaves and the guy's like, oh, fuck you. And she's like, mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. That was powerful to me. Yeah. And then we transport to a diner where the girls were having an orange. Oh, no, no, no. Then we transport to, isn't this where Trump shows up? Oh, so sorry. That's so crazy. Can you imagine if I skip over that? That was, my jaw was on the floor. I didn't see it coming. I didn't know it was happening. I said, wow, this episode has everything. Yeah. He's mentioned it every, it's amazing how he actually has his hand in, it's like he's been, throughout culture, always mentioned. Yes. It's such a luminous. The thing that takes place in New York, it's like Trump will be involved. It's so amazing. Yeah. And this is Trump's second mention on the show, but this time he's actually here. The first time he was just referenced in the pilot. I was scared Trump was about to be the guy Miranda talks to. I was terrified. I was like, oh my God, are we about to see Trump? The relief I felt when the 72-year-old man was like, can I get you champagne, my darling? Yeah. Oh my God. He's always had his hand in the number tag. Trump is always Trump. Like when he's leaving the dinner or like whatever with Ed, he's like, you can find me in my office at Trump Tower. It's like, girl, we know where you are. I just couldn't believe his hair has been that way for decades. Yeah. It's amazing. Well, you know what it is? I hate to say it, but we talk about the pop star theory where every pop star has a distinct hairstyle. And that's why Meghan Trainor can never make a mainstream because she hasn't figured it out. Yes, exactly. Meghan Trainor or Balayage, she could be a Lester, but she keeps copying Sabrina Carpenter. The thing is, Trump kind of has a lot of hair. She kind of has pop star hair. Trump needs to be more like Meghan Trainor. Like distinctive hair. Yeah. No, I mean, I wish he was more like that. That's why he's like still relevant. Right. Yeah. Because the hair is keeping him afloat. The hair keeps the score. I've been spreading the rumor that he died. Every podcast he brings it up. I'm like, but then who's launching the missiles, girl? Like his buddy. Samantha's so smooth. And she doesn't even need to be that smooth. I'm recently single. Word. And I'm trying to channel. My inner Samantha. Okay. So if there's like, you know, someone I'm interested in, I'm kind of like staring at them like how she is just giving them. Oh, you are. Yeah. I'm giving kind of a stare. Not great. But that's their fault. That's their fault. Yeah. And I think the move is like you stare. If that doesn't work, I'm just kind of being bold with it. I'm either like you're hot or you're cute. My other line is, are you single? Oh, my God. And then my other line is, do you want to make out? Oh, my God. How many times a week are you imploring these questions? It depends. Not like it's not like constantly like craziness. Like once a week, twice a week. But I think it depends on like if I'm going out. Okay. I'll say once. Those are like three sentences a girl would spend four years building up the courage to say. I'm going to do it this year. See, but that might be the autism because I'm like, I'm not, I can't do all the. The games. Yeah, I can't. I'm just like, I need to know. I want. I want a result. Samantha. That's the vibe. Yeah. Yeah. We're all autistic. Yeah. We're just tired. Yeah. That's another thing. We can't get into that. Well, also because I'm like, I don't want to get into a relationship right now. I just want to like have fun and kiss someone. Yeah. So you're like, well, we can't waste time. And you know what? I'm making it sound much cooler. I feel like the most I'm saying this is on line. We need you as a bombshell in the villa. I would love to be a bombshell in the villa. You would kill as a bombshell in the villa. I don't have to. I don't have bombshell villa body though. You do. I don't. Okay. But it doesn't matter. I'd be the only girl in that house wearing a one piece. Okay. Good. Hashtag radical. Representation. Yeah. And like all the Mormons in the nation are like obsessed. They're like, he's really representing me. You have bombshell. Cause you could really disturb it. Cause you're not willing. You're willing to ask the questions. Yeah. It's already like. I wouldn't be like, do you sweat? Do you like water? Do you like water? Really good question. I'd be like, what trauma do you have? Yeah. Which is what the people want. Who's ruined your life. Go, go there. Go there. I think it would be fun. Do you think they would cast me? I think you could get casted on a dating reality show. I just. Like love is blind. No, they wouldn't like you there. Okay. Cause they want girls that want to get married tomorrow to a guy who sucks. Yeah. They actually seek that out. But maybe they, I don't know. You're giving big brother to me. Yeah. I love big brother. Yeah. You can do that. I love big brother. I'm loving. I'm loving. I'm loving. I'm loving. I'm loving watching videos of someone talking about someone's whole season on big brother, but I've never seen the show. It's great. I haven't watched in a long time. Maybe I should apply. You should apply. I would love to be on a reality show. We need something like a vehicle or a blue pill. Cause that's what this is. This is man needs to get up. Right. So there's the walk and talk of Samantha and Carrie and they have early odds. 2000 like Starbucks cups. And they're so promoting Starbucks. I'm like, how much money did they get? It's for sure. Product placement. The way that they're holding it is truly like, it's like Kristen Bell and nobody wants this. Yeah. Yeah. It's half the camera. Yeah. It's really awesome. And the drinks look so good. I'm like, what menu items are those? I want to order them. We've lost Starbucks is lost as Dennis say. Yeah. It's truly a heartless, terrible organization. Now that even, by the way, Bethany Frankel has been going on a PR tour, taking down Starbucks. She goes, I'm having one step and I'm throwing it away. because I don't mix it right and I keep melting the plastic cups and it keeps melting and side of cups and now i'm gonna take my microplastics i love her when they launched protein cold foam i said well it's gone too far yeah it's over but i do like that in the ads because i think in a couple recent episodes they've also been doing starbucks they always show one girl with a coffee beverage and one girl with like a refresher beverage so i think they're trying to spread the word that like we do coffee auntie yeah and it worked because it made me be like i should do a refresher everyone's drinking starbucks anyways carrie's like 72 i would never like 50 is my limit what would your guys's age limit be bottom and top i think i'm in i'm in the same boat as samantha i'm like what are they offering totally because i could definitely if someone's like rich and offering to buy you an island yeah then i'm in for me a bottom would be like like around my age and then a top maybe like in their like 50s i think the youngest i could do would be like 24 i would say 24 would be the lowest how old are you 28 oh okay and then i'm 30 so 24 for me feels a little crazy i mean it's only because i had a crush on a 24 year old so i'm like okay if he's 24 then i guess that would be if you're being 20 age from i mean this actually this whole episode is talking about how we've decoupled age from sexual prowess and the whole like how men's like declining sexuality and older age has been eliminated because of the blue pill and what that means as they like try to maintain their masculinity through sex will they still have ability to men are so defined by how how they can have sex and if they can even have sex at all and it's very this is such a unique episode of that and how everything is so different now even right it's giving men's journey with viagra is giving women who find out they can't have kids and they're like am i even a woman and it's like what does it mean to be a woman or what does it mean to be a man if you can't do this thing that everybody expects you to be able to do so yeah we've democratized boners so now it's all about like men sell sex in the same way women are selling sex because we've like had it for two decades oh my god what a great collab selling sunset sex in the city selling sex in the city if trishelle was on chris shell was on she could host it yeah that would be so good if she was the fifth the fifth girl in the group i'm like she really wants to be the fifth girl in the group really it's amazing and then like big and steve could be the like little weird little weird brothers yeah wait they should there should be an episode of selling sunset where they recreate sex in the city let's talk to some people yeah we're in hollywood anything can happen 10 seasons of that yeah that's what they keep trying to do yeah let's cut over to the group outdoor brunch where the theme of this lunch is men are liars the new york love story isn't real it's always a friend who knows a friend who knows a friend so this is like charlotte being like no like i know a girl named amanda through another friend named amanda and she actually is in love so it is possible and then miranda's like no and then samantha's like no and then carrie's like i'm still um socially anxious about big and if he cares about me because why doesn't he want to hang out with my friends one-on-one yeah i thought this scene was really helpful for me because the amount of someone referenced pollyanna and i had no idea what it meant i thought it was like polyamorous anorexic i had no idea what it was that's what i thought you had so my name's amelia and i have pollyanna yeah that's what i thought and so i googled it it's a character very optimistic little orphan girl who just spreads cheer constantly and i'm like that is charlotte she is being pollyanna she is and it is annoying i hate when i'm trying to be in a miranda mood and someone's like i know everything's gonna work out it pisses me off too because then you make me look like a villain yeah this show is so literary yeah they actually evoke so many so many literary figures in it it's quite wonderful we've lost the r do you guys think big and carrie are different this time or no no i would say a little bit different but not really i think different in terms of how you guys feel about pollyanna how are you guys feeling about pollyanna yeah i think carrie's different but big is it you know carrie's kind of being pollyanna but just more internally internally she's like it's all gonna work out and this is my fairy tale the spectrum of pollyanna yeah it's really beautiful how are you guys feeling pollyanna today i'm feeling pretty good you're feeling pollyanna i'm feeling pollyanna yeah i mean ever since that mimosa at dry bar i'm feeling pollyanna you're drunk i'm drunk in love no one's to check if i'm feeling pollyanna are you too late now that no one cares you feel pollyanna i didn't even have to ask i was implied you're right it was implied it was implied i'm radiating pollyanna now carrie goes to big to make veal and she was supposed to get dinner with miranda okay so shady 30 minutes miranda waits so shady i'd be so fucking pissed and carrie's like did you not like get my message an hour ago and i mean the that conversation i was like oh i get why people are always saying carrie's a bad friend yes i've i saw it i said yeah that's fucked up but part of me was like i think that's something i would do unfortunately because i think when you're like digmatized and a guy's like i'm gonna make veal from scratch you're like what else can't like what can't he do yeah i'm like sorry miranda i don't want to hear your negativity right now i'm living my fairy tale no like she's salting the veal i'm like why isn't the salt in the spread why does she keep salting it he's like that's the first time we see big's apartment oh and the whole show and if you notice it's kind of filmed as if it's like a spy cam if you're watching it's like it's very like close-up shot they're pulling out the individuals both carrie and big in this scene it's a soundstage yeah it's and the lighting is um almost like noir yeah it's almost moody it's very moody it carries very putting on her like transvestite or hot like i love how much she's smoking in the apartment i'm just like so curious what it smells like in there between the veal being cooked and the cigarettes i know but then in the episode after this one she's like yelling at big for smelling like cigar and it's like okay y'all are the same yeah you can tell she's so sprung on big the way that she's like feeding him the cigarette while he's cooking the way she's abandoning her friendships feeding him wine salting his veal literally the oxytocin in her body is like she's abandoned herself she goes carries out i'm all in on big and she has the audacity to on that phone call be like where'd my friend miranda go i was like this fucking cunt okay have you ever stood up someone because of a man yeah we all have yeah no that's you're an amazing person i think it's just because i don't care about mine you've de-centered yeah i've de-centered them oh my god but i mean we all like the trap foxy toast and like you will do crazy things you will harm your closest friends and you will help them terrible things yeah in order to eat veal with a man and a man and miranda delivers what's amazing line i think this whole episode it's like you stood me up to eat unethical meat with a man yeah oh yeah that politically incorrect i love that politically incorrect meat with a man yeah oh i want them it's so good yeah i know that should be merch i'm like why is it politically just because it's the babies they're killing the babies yeah we just actually like people really were caring veal was coming into the zeitgeist in the 90s people were it was they were remarketizing it like but then why but why no big whoop about cooking eggs those are literally babies well is it because of when this like but then you know what maybe god had made carrie act like that because god was like well it's time for miranda to meet steve people always say the fifth character in the show is new york city but everyone knows it's gone it's gone that's how you know you're like a bad this this would be me as carrie trying to rationalize standing up my friend and being a bad person and i'm like oh my god you're a bad friend is like girl you met steve no literally it's like it all worked out it was meant to happen miranda like drunkenly was like carrie you were such a bitch two years ago at that like i would be carrie and i would be like actually that's the night you met steve so i fucking rock yeah yeah exactly weaponize it but miranda goes i'll have another glass and then he's like please and she's like all right you're not doing this i personally i'm like i would be pissed at that but i would never like be like i don't know i i'm i'm all about manners i'm i'm loving please and thank you but i am kind of like she's at the bar she's already ordered a glass i think her tone was bad i think if she were to just go can i have another glass fine don't you think the culture of service workers has completely shifted and like it used to be that you were being serviced by a service worker but anytime i interact a service worker i will i'm like i'm actually i'm a girl it's like let me get the desk i was like let me i can do anything you want yeah it's a it's a it's a completely different relationship The fact that now when I go to, like, a restaurant, and by restaurant I mean Chipotle, and I'm asking them how they're doing, and then they're, like, actually really bad, I'm like, oh, oh, oh, oh. Chicken. Yeah, chicken. Nothing. No cheese. Yeah. But Steve kind of has, like, some swagger. I kind of like it. Oh, my God. He comes in, like, hot. Hot. Everything is so fucking clever. And he's, like, this one's on me, and Miranda goes, why is that? And he's, like, so you feel obligated to sit here and keep talking to me. So hot. Does that even happen in 2026? I don't think it happened then. I think it was just a TV show. No, I feel like men used to have swag. It's the same thing as, like, the 72-year-old putting the moves on Samantha, and Samantha's, like, I've only seen these moves in movies. Yeah. I think we've decentralized sex. We all have. Right. Even though you're kissing, like, it's, like, I think. I'm kissing for sport. You're kissing for sport. Well, men now want to be desired like women do. And that's why they're so addicted to looks maxing. Because now that you can have a boner whenever you want, that's easy. But clivicure is always going on pods being, like, yeah, I don't care. I don't want to have sex with women. I want women to want to have sex with me. Same. And it feels like the whole culture is that men want women to have sex with them. And that's enough validation for them because it proves an intrinsic. Value in them used to be able to earn through actually having sex with a woman. That's so real. And like sexual prowess is, I mean, and I, it's so confusing because I mean, I can't speak for the female experience, but it's oftentimes like women will like, they, of course, are like attractive men, but also the swagger of a man and just like innate confidence. Like you two are reacting right now. Like, why are men in nineties? Like, why, why are you approaching us anymore? It's like, well, yeah. Cause that's what women often find like attractive in a man. It's like confidence. Yeah. Charisma. They're able to have a conversation with them, but men also like feel the same, like are feeling some more anxiety that women don't approach men about. And they're like, they want to just be the object of desire. And now we just live in a culture where everyone wants to be the object of desire because it's in a way proves one's value more than anything. Have you guys seen that video that is like, this is what scientists came together and said is the most attractive to women, like the most attractive way a man can dance to a woman. And it's like this guy going like. The Macarena. Like being so whatever. And all the comments are like, who did the science just ask? Yeah. Where was this study? Probably confidence. But I am like looking at it and I'm like, I get what they mean because girls would see a guy at a party dancing like that and be like, oh, he like has like swag. Like he doesn't give a fuck. And he's like fun and like cool. And he'd be down to like have fun. I know. I see this my brother so much. My brother's is found himself somewhere between being like a curricular type where he's so looking good. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. He's like a little bit of a looks oriented and it's always been. But he also is like a fun loving person who loves karaoke and will like embarrass themselves on the dance floor. How old is he? He's 25. Does he want to make out? He has a girlfriend of three years. Okay. And he never made out before that because he's always been like so anxious. But I know it's like his first person I think he like really kissed was also his girlfriend. He's really good at having 250 grams of protein a day. He's very like looks oriented. It's like thin looks maxing from the get go of life. Has he tried the Starbucks protein cold foam? Well, he doesn't. He doesn't even. But he's simply like commerce like that. Right. He's not a spender. No, he's not a spender. He's so interesting. We are Jewish. So it's like, we're not going to fall for that. Babes, get some protein powder in there. Mix it around. Do that. He loves. He is. Yeah. He's frugal. We were at Akbar last night, which is. The famous gay bar of like for like indie folk in LA. Yeah. And I was like, usually when I'm at a gay bar on a Friday night, I'm like, these guys are so sexually charged. It was completely sexless in there. I think LA is a sexless city. Really? That's why there's no sex in the city in LA. Everyone wants to be desired. It was so bizarre. I was like, no one's making moves. Yeah. I went to a, if you can believe it, a gay bar in Denver. Okay. Colorado. For you? Yeah. Yeah. And there was, it was interesting. There was the, the men had a very sexually charged energy, which was exciting. Some of the women did as well, but there was this girl who was staring at me staring, staring, staring the whole night. I'm moving. She's somehow getting closer. And so I'm like, okay, this girl. Is obsessed with me. She loves me. She wants to start a family. And so at a certain point, I'm like kind of nervous, kind of awkward. And then finally she's like elbow to elbow with me. So I'm like, okay, time to say something. And so I'm thinking it's coming off sexy, flirty, and I'm saying, um, were you looking at me? But I think because of my voice and my attitude, it felt like, were you looking at me? And in my head, I'm being like Samantha and I'm like, were you looking at me? You're like, I'm doing the damn thing. Yeah. And she was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm not gay. I'm not gay. I'm not gay. It's my friend. It's my friend. Her friend's gay, I guess. And she's not. I'm like, well then why are you fucking staring? Babe? I don't think you know this, but it's actually you. It's you. Yeah. It's a gay accident. Damn. It was so devastating for all parties. I know. Everyone got riled up. And then I turned into like crazy incel guy. Yeah, you were freaky, you know. Because then I'm like, as soon as that happened, I wanted to be like, well, you weren't even that cute to begin with. I didn't even really like you. You were just staring at me. I didn't say any of this, but. You were like, oh, you don't like me. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fuck you. You're ugly. You were rejected in such a way that they gave up their sexuality. Yeah. She's like, I'm straight. Yeah. So, I'm like, I'm straight. I'm straight. Yeah. Well, I actually, it's like, that's probably the prognosis of like, you have a lesbian friend to take you to the gay bar. You're like, maybe tonight I've had these like laden desires. I can act on them. You approach one lesbian and she, she deadpans you. Yeah. I kill myself. I know. Yeah. To be, to be feeling that brave in Denver. And then immediately they're like, you're stupid and wrong. I feel like. You were a mile high. It's like you had not adjusted to the altitude yet. Yeah. The altitude. Yeah. It was an altitude issue. Yeah. It was an altitude. It was like Everest. So, an altitude issue for Samantha and Ed. Yeah. Thoughts? He's actually breathing okay. He's actually, Miranda said, or Samantha says, if it's dark enough, the cat still meows the same or whatever. Yeah. Which I'm like, what? Yeah. The metaphor, she was, yeah, I was getting a little lost, but then, so she actually enjoyed sex with him and was like, oh, this is perfect. But then she sees him walk to the bathroom. And he sees, she sees his saggy butt and she's like, I can't. Well, it's funny. It's crazy that that's where Samantha draws the line. Just kind of an old man butt. You can't do this, babe. You just did. Yeah. It was haunting. It was like obsession vibes. I love it. He was in the corner of the room staring at her. Yeah. I love the sketch comedy of the like housekeeper. I'm like, how often is this happening? She's just ready by the door with her things. And then she's like. What happens the next episode do? She finds herself in the same exact situation. Oh my God. We're at two episodes from now, but it's so, they love to recycle a plot on this. They get a little bit, do different ethnicities and plot. Well, obviously, and I think, but keep it white. Keep it white, please. Yeah. Totally. Well, Miranda and Steve hook up and they have two orgasms. I think that's better than Samantha and Ed. Yeah. And Samantha's. Well, I don't think Samantha and Ed had sex. Oh. I don't think so. I don't think so. I don't think so. I don't think so. No. I don't think so. I don't think so. I don't think so. I don't think so. I don't think so. Yeah. I don't think so. Yeah. And Samantha's. Oh. I think they were getting ready for sex. Yeah. They were making out doing hand stuff because she's still like fully in her dress. Right. Oh, you're right. And I think he was going to the. I think he was like going to the bathroom to prepare for the sex. Yeah. They were just like. Oh. And she was like. I can't. I can't. Yeah. It's perfect. Miranda's having better luck. She has an amazing one night stand. And then Steve is like, this is special. And she's like, you don't got to say all that. To be this rude. It's so funny. I love watching Miranda act. It's like, oh, fuck. You know, get out of here. Your one night stand. It's a great sex, but get the hell out of here. She's always doing an entire scene while putting lotion on her hands. Yeah. She's always doing this. I love lotion acting. Yeah. She's good with it. Yeah. You can't do that if you're multi-hyphenate. That's the one thing. You have to sacrifice lotion acting if you want to have a content career as well. I so relate to Miranda because I'm like trying to get into the guy's head. And I'm like, no, I get it. I'm just, no, I'm one of your boys. Yeah. And that's fine. Yeah. We can watch the game together, but like, you don't need to act like, oh, I love, I love you. It's almost like she's like, well, I'd rather be like so against it because to fall for your little trick. I'm better than that. Yeah. She's sabotaging herself. She doesn't give Steve her number. He has to show up at her door the next day and be like, um, I like you. That's so hot. If he wanted to, he would. Yeah. That's so funny. What's fun about that is that Steve's been so like, I like you. Like, let's go out. Let's go to dinner. Miranda's like, no, no, no, no, no. And then Steve's like, oh, so you're going to denial with your friends tomorrow night. Well, what are you doing before that? Let's meet up. And she's like, okay, fine. And he's like, well, when's the dinner? And she goes seven. And he goes, when's the dinner really start? And she like smirks and goes nine. And it's like her being like, I like you too a little bit. Whatever. She shuts the door. She turns around. She's like, it's an overt, like a metaphor with the calling restaurant denial. It's the way that they keep referencing it. They're like, right now we're in denial. She's like every New Yorker, everyone in Manhattan wants to be in denial. It's like, okay, it's okay. But then Carrie's so excited. Big is like, sure. I'll meet your friends on Friday. Whatever. And I love, I think this is the start of the Buzzfeed quiz. Cause he's like, Samantha's the whore. Miranda's. - He's a bitch, Charlotte's the proof. dude he's like i know your friends yeah this girl this guy this girl yeah and she's like there's more to them we finally get the like flat out archetypes yeah like they really list them out and they're like we know what game we're playing characters yeah that's great please they know they're doing since day one they write what you know keep them distinct get the character similar and that's how people perceive depth and big has always seen that big has always seen that and he's a writer at heart big's like fuck it i'll go to denial i'll go to then the day shows up it's raining outside he's like he's the one getting them into denial right he's the plug for denial without him they can't get in it's the hottest spot in in town right they're like sitting there having as many cosmos as they can while miranda tries to sabotage steve and he's like you know what i'm fed up bitch yeah and then carrie's about to admit well well so big says that he's gonna go meet her friends right and then he's like i'm gonna go meet her friends right and then he's like i'm gonna go meet her friends right and then he's like i'm gonna go meet her friends right and then he's like i'm gonna go meet her friends right and then he's like i'm gonna go meet her friends right and then he's like but then carrie goes to big's place to have a drink before going to denial and meeting with the girls and big's like uh he's in boxers she opens the door he's in boxers in his shirt he's like i don't think i'm gonna go tonight and she's like okay can you imagine you can't she can't even look him in the eyes imagine life before tax because miranda would not been stood up and met steve but carrie went all the way to his apartment and immediately has to turn around yes and it's um what a waste of time i don't like carrying the scene because she's being pouty and i'd be like no you're going to denial you're my man now things are different i told them things were different i felt it i couldn't even give an example of how things were different i just felt it's gonna be the proof like and now here's an example of how things are not different and so she just goes okay and she walks her looking down because she's like if i looked him in the eye i would cry i'm like girl get a oh you're going to dinner they're they're your friends they only want to hang out with you anyway you know what i was hoping for the end of this episode to be big doesn't show up they're like where's big where's big is he coming and she's like uh and then they have this full 180 on steve and steve joins the table instead of big right and miranda goes after him but i'm like what if in what universe what would the timeline look like if it was just all the girls and steve instead of big i agree because they were waiting for a table of five they needed the whole party they just pretend he's and then steve could have been big steve could have been the big and then miranda could have been like okay fine yeah but instead big has to show up which changes miranda's heart it grows three sizes she decides to run after steve in the pouring rain also carrie's reaction to saying big insane insane the biggest flip it is so satisfying that charlotte's like see look big's here i'm like oh my god act three is incredible um but then it really feels like broadway musical literally just when you think hercules isn't gonna be able to do it you know um and then they have fun big makes fun of samantha for being a slut and we cut to credits and i've heard a word that i've never heard before that i love and i want to start saying how's the old coot what is a coot i need to google it actually at this very moment like male cougar like cooter oh like a cootie um i don't think so but also let me play with that idea for a second okay oh okay coot is an eccentric or elderly person in everyday conversation coot is a mild often affectionate or slightly teasing term for an older person particularly an eccentric or crotchety man example don't pay attention to that old coot yelling on the porch okay he's a normal age coot there is no such thing there's only old coots yeah coots coots are just for the elderly that's amazing that discounts who's a coot you love oh good question i don't know many old men i'll say it or women or women oh and it could be like pop culture celebs well meryl streep's iconic but is she like eccentric yeah you know who's eccentric francis mcdormand she's a coot she's a hoot and a coot yeah i saw her once on the subway and it was like she was wearing expensive clothes but none of it matched her fit i love that and she had like a claw clip in so crazy and i was like that's definitely her like there's no yeah woman that would do it this good like i think kelly gets her own right i saw her in new york i just saw her eating outside yes i'll just say hi no but i was looking you did i wanted to be like hey kelly hey kelly but she's so i didn't say anything totally oh she's amazing yeah she's a coot she's not even that old i mean but she might be like 60 now that's yeah well that's not old obviously but yeah she's like she's getting up there she's getting up there like my mom's really young guys my mom is 60 my mom's kind of a coot whoa young she's young for a coot but she's doing it anyway now she can finally say old coot which is awesome should we cut to our second break yes we're gonna when we get back we're gonna ask the titular question girl i didn't i've never implored my science background more than when i have to find important question to ask you oh my god girl what girl are you there's moments of all of them it's really hard to say because i feel like it's kind of like astrology where it's like i present maybe as one thing like how do you think i present like just because that would be my rising right what you come off as yeah so the way you talk would immediately put you in the miranda box okay yeah but then you're revealing that no i feel like i am miranda but then you're revealing that you're kind of forward making moves that's samantha i'm thinking like ada i think i'm i think i'm for sure miranda i think i i oscillate at times between samantha and charlotte i think my rising would be samantha yeah but really ultimately when it comes down to it i can become very like conservative christian woman charlotte um but i would say overall i mean really yeah you're just i get really awkward and like but where's my prince charming conservative yeah we can bring up the egg comment yeah you're just like not caring i think i i feel like the i feel like i can be carry because i can be kind of like selfish and like pick me girl guys girl i'm kind of carry vibes everyone's they say everyone's like a little bit here but you do okay i think it's because i know himself i mean they all do but carrie really has an energy of like self-knowing that you can carry yeah work yeah thank you - Thank you. - You carry yourself knowing, yeah. - I would say so. I'm gonna take a quiz after this. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - I'll text you my results. - The quiz is like, you're autistic. - We made the quiz. - Yeah, I'm Steve. - You're demented. - What girl are you this week? - It's an amazing question. I think I am a Charlotte, 'cause it's like, I don't know if that's going on in my life. - You're probably in love. - Oh, nothing really going on this week. - You're filler. - I'm filler mama. - Yeah. - I wish, well, I'm in LA, I should get some filler. You get sunburned so easily in this town. - Yeah, UV's high. - We took a 25 minute drive the other day. I'm like, I have rosacea. - Yeah. - I know, Larry the lobster. - I forgot driving here when the sun goes down, you're blind if you're going that way, and you're just stuck blind for like 20 minutes. - You can't see anything. - So scary. - The sun sees all. - That's true. - Yeah. - That's true about the sun. - And girl, what girl are you? - And we don't have those big buildings that block out. - Yeah. - The sun. - And the palm tree, forget it. No coverage. - Just for show. - They're all, it's like those epic trees. - Yeah. - It's fucked. - That's so funny. The girl I am this week is obviously Miranda. You could have seen that from a million miles away. I don't believe in love. - Really, you're Miranda? - But I think you're having a mimosa dry bar. It's kind of giving Samantha. - That is true. - You had your first drink at 10:00 AM today. - Yeah. - I don't want you to take that on. - That's the Samantha move. If there were men at dry bar, you would have been with a 72 year old before the pod started. - That is true. - You're Trump, bitch. - You know what, fuck it. I'm Samantha. - Yeah, you're Samantha. - I am realizing right now. Oh, like the mimosa was had exactly at 9:45 AM. - Yeah, that's crazy. - That is true. - That's Samantha. - I asked if they had coffee, they said no. We have Prosecco, we have mimosa, we have white wine. I said, okay. - They don't even have tea? - When at dry bar. - When at dry bar. - It's free and you know what? It's the most expensive blow out you could possibly get. - But they cheap as mimosa. Am I right? Damn, those things are expensive. - Should we go to our final segment? - Well, don't be a bitch. - I'm not being a bitch, I'm just being myself. - My carried away for this episode is why is Big and Carrie giving Rich and Rosie from the Real Housewives of Rhode Island? If you guys aren't watching, Rosie's husband is a professional Frank Sinatra singer. - That's true. - And the way- - No, he's not. - Yeah, he is. - It's professional Frank Sinatra performer. - Singer. - No, no, performer, 'cause- - He embodies Frank, even when not singing. - He embodies Frank, but he doesn't sing Frank. - I saw in an episode him singing Frank. - The first episode that they do make the distinction, Rosie goes to her confessional, she goes, "No, he's not a Frank Sinatra singer, he's a Frank Sinatra performer." - No, you're getting the word singer and impersonator confused. - Fine, but he's an impersonator. But he's not an impersonator, he's a performer. He's a performer. - He's not an impersonator, he's a singer. - I will go to my grave with this one. - Well, yeah, take it with you. - I think performer encapsulates singing as well. It's just not, he's probably doing all of it. - Right. - On and off stage, he's Frank. - Right. - 'Cause I've actually been in this debate before. So I think that's the first time I've been down this road. - Um, so that's my carried away. - I'm getting carried away with Rosie's husband is not a singer, he's a Frank Sinatra performer. That's why he does, he does, he sings in a Frank Sinatra style. He's doing a Frank- - You could say- - It's saying he does a Frank Sinatra tribute. He says he's a Frank Sinatra. Yeah. He does a residency where he does Frank Sinatra styles. - I never said he impersonated. I said he sang- - You could say he's doing it his way. - He's doing it his way. - Yeah. - Yeah. And that's what I love about him. - When my grandma died, I made a slideshow for my dad and used that song. I did it my way. - Yeah. - I love making my dad cry. - I love making a parent cry. - Yeah, it's like, I did it. - So my mom's so easy. So I'm like, my dad was a good one. Yeah. - Easy peasy. - What are you getting carried away with? - I'm getting carried away with how men should go back to just like wanting to have sex. - Yeah. - They really need it. I was like, God forbid a man has sex these days. - I know men need to stop needing validation and start giving validation. - Literally. - They're gonna get it by giving it. - Yeah. - I know. - You gotta give to receive. - All men are addicted to like living long, slowing down their heart rate, getting their run cycle in. - Yeah, it's like, what are you gonna live long for to not fuck? - No one wants to live with pleasure anymore. - Yeah. - Everyone wants to live long. And be like in suffering. - It's the boy kibble of it all, it must stop. - I know, I know. And I fear it even is trickling into women as well. - Yeah, it is. - Well, women have been grappling with similar issues for much longer and they've been able to figure it out. Where men, it's their first time even approaching it and they actually have less tools. - Yeah. - Yeah. They've always had the, it's like, did you see this? I mean, everyone's bringing up this point, but the diary of the CEO, the host of it, he said he had three glasses of wine and it ruined his month. - What? - And it ruined his month. - That's crazy. - 'Cause men are so addicted to optimization right now. And I see this in my own brother where it's like, he can't actually, he loves karaoke, he can't sing it past 12, 'cause he has to go to bed. - Yeah. - And he's been this way his whole life. They're addicted to ritual. They think that it's a noble sacrifice to do it. - Well, isn't that kind of LA culture? Like everybody's like, well, I don't wanna go out. Like I need to self optimize. - Yeah, it's definitely more wellness based. But I was gonna say, Mike carried away. His staying up late. - Oh, you're into it? - Yeah, I'm kind of recently, I'm like pushing it to the limit. That's what I'm carried away with. Kind of pushing my boundaries and my limits. - What time are we looking at? - It's Darwinism. - I'm just trying to like have fun. And so if that means staying up until four in the morning, then I'm gonna do it. And I'm kind of the opposite of optimization because I'm like, I'm only young once. I want to have experiences. And it's okay if I'm tired, I can afford to be tired now. - Right. I think that is literally what sex in the city is telling us to be like, because the girls who drink lemon water are trying to be the prettiest, but the prettiest girls are girls living out loud and like really connecting with their lives. And it's like, sometimes that does look like alcoholism. - Yeah. - It's so true. - Yeah. - Yeah, and again, like a self-selecting thing where if you stay up late, you get to meet people. You get to meet people that are also willing to stay up late and intrinsically that they're more interesting 'cause they're not addicted to self-optimization, which of course stagnates someone. - Yeah. - Right. - You're finding community. - I know. I keep thinking about how actually everyone wants a podcast because everyone wants to optimize, but everyone actually at the end of the day is addicted to like want, people do want to have fun, but they're like, how do I monetize my fun? And they think the only medium is a podcast 'cause you conversate with your friend. You go, oh, I can build my career while having fun at the same time. And that's why the notion of having fun and having a podcast or one day having a podcast is so interesting 'cause everyone wants to have conversation, but they fear that conversation doesn't lead anywhere anymore. And they have to like, they have to make a revenue stream out of it. - Come up with a fancy reason. - Yeah. And that's the hard part. It's like, well, you can actually talk to your friends. - Yeah. - And it's funny 'cause I mean, we obviously all love podcasting, but I think we can all say the best conversations in our life are continuously happening off mic. - Yes. - Unfiltered. - Unfiltered, yeah. - I did see some girl on TikTok be like let men have a podcast, they need to talk to each other more. - That's true. - And I'm like, that's a good point. - Well, stand up comedy saves us from so much of the worst hardships of life today because it's a community-oriented. - There's always a birthday party to go to. - There's always a birthday party. Yeah, it's community-oriented. It's a craft that like, yes, we do put it online, but still because it's live forward or hopefully in some capacity is, it allows us to stay more present. It's very writerly, like you have to stay focused and like you have to create that body of work. And it's like a shield. Like we hear about the largest quarrels of our day and we're of course susceptible to them, but we have the protection of kind of, that's why comedy is actually, it's so nice to do via like a live comedian. - Yeah. - Period. - Period.
