Sex and the City S2E5: “Four Women and a Funeral” with Carolina Montesquieu
55m 35s
The episode "Women and a Funeral" from *Girls* Season 2, Episode 5, explores the emotional and social fallout following the death of fashion designer Javier. As the girls gather for his funeral, their personal lives unravel, highlighting themes of power, identity, and social judgment. Samantha faces severe social isolation after kissing a man to access financial aid, leading to a humiliating scene where she is denied entry to restaurants and forced to pay cash, symbolizing her fall from grace. Meanwhile, Miranda grapples with her identity as a single woman, confronting societal expectations and the loss of privilege that comes with being unmarried. The episode uses sharp humor and dramatic irony to critique the ways women in the 30s navigate relationships, finances, and social status. The narrative also contrasts the characters’ power dynamics—Samantha stands out as radiant and influential, while others are marginalized or emotionally volatile. The discussion extends to real-world parallels, such as the challenges of adjusting to a new city like New York, with guest Carolina Monosky sharing her personal experience of cultural dislocation. The episode blends satire with emotional depth, showing how women’s lives are shaped by both internal struggles and societal pressures, ultimately offering a raw, unfiltered look at female autonomy in a competitive, often judgmental world.
They're standing over a grave and she's like "Fuck you, babe!"
She knows I got her, 'cause I hit guys too.
Well, retired.
Pretend to be like, "I've grown a medium french fry out of the guy before, yeah."

And now introducing our amazing guest, oh my God.
When I first saw the girl, it's like, she did magic on the stage.
No, okay.
So did you see her at Bellhouse?
Newcomer show was about one.
Yes.
Oh my God.
We were sitting next to each other.
You're a house girl.
I said who was she?
Get her on the couch.
I'm Carolina Monosky.
Woo.
And they welcome.
Welcome to the site.
It's Carolina.
That was very sweet.
Thank you guys.
No, you're so funny.
Yeah.
A lot for bits.
I'm gonna be funny out there.
What is it you're being mean to your grandma or something?
Your grandma's being mean to you and you're like, I'll put her in a home.
Yeah, my mom.
But my grandma, I guess, she can go first.
And if you're watching this grandma, she loves video podcasts.
Yeah.
And then she's just like on WhatsApp.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
We'll make a WhatsApp version for her.
For sure.
How the hell are you, girl?
Tell us everything.
Oh my God.
So I'm just new to the city, honestly.
I've been here five months almost.
So just like adjusting to that and the scene and everyone reacting to me and like, how
that is all going.
So yeah, I'm just adjusting.
Yeah.
You'll be in the real scene.
It's such a funny way to put it.
Why?
No, but it's so correct.
Really?
By the way, everyone's adjusting to you.
Like, it is the truth.
Yeah.
Most people are like, so I'm still adjusting the city.
And you're like, so everybody's just seeing them mean.
You're right.
I think in the city.
I mean, just based off like, every time I run into somebody, they're like, oh, I'm like,
oh, I'm here.
I'm so shocked.
Where are you from again?
Boston.
No, I started in the Boston comedy scene, but I'm from behavioral Massachusetts, which is
like right on the board of New Hampshire.
Amazing.
Yeah.
I love the East Coast.
I never went to there.
It's way different though.
Like, I've been coming out here the last two and a half years before like the big
move.
But being here is actually something like different.
Like, do you have a car?
I do have a car, but I took public transit today.
Hello.
Yeah.
And I didn't even get lost.
Wait.
That's amazing.
Yeah.
But I'm like scared.
It's like very scary out there.
To be in Friday.
It's not a safe space.
To be in Friday.
No.
I live in Bedstuy.
Okay.
Lots.
So yeah, it's still like getting gentrified, but it's not like fully there and we're like in
the cut.
Like the first week I was out here, I was talking to my mom on the phone.
She's like, "We did it.
I'm like up for a walk."
She's like, "Alone."
I'm like, "It's new."
But then a baby got shot a week later in my neighborhood.
I'm like, "Oh, she's smart."
And even though it's always sending me breaking news about Brooklyn like shootings and she's
like, "Are you alive?"
And I'm like, "That was a baby."
No.
My parents lived here for over a decade and they're like, if I go out again at 7 p.m.
They're like, "Well, it's over forever.
We're not going to see him again."
It's like, "I'm on the block.
You, we grew up on."
It's just so crazy.
No, there's like, it's like the best and the worst that the world has to offer.
It's like New York is.
Oh, it's so good.
Yeah.
Thank God.
I love this song.
I'm glad you're experiencing it.
Now that you're here, we're all just egg.
So we're all, and we're just a just egg.
We're all new in a way.
Everything feels new.
The streets are safe for her.
And it's like, "I can't have a sore under you."
I'm getting a gun.
Now, sex in the sea.
Is it a part of your story?
What's the relationship to the show?
Oh, my God.
I watched it like four times.
Oh, my God.
I wouldn't say it's like, "Oh, my God.
I want to move to New York and be carry."
I mean, if I could, like, life would be a lot easier, and they're all skinny.
But there's like good character growth.
Like, is it an interesting show?
There are lessons, you know?
So it's definitely like women in the 30s.
I didn't know there would be so many lessons.
I don't know.
I don't know.
'Cause that didn't really happen when we were watching girls.
Well, like, it's even like right now, even looking.
You're like, you're so aesthetically carry.
It really is.
'Cause you have curly hair and you're wearing a name plate.
I'm giving you a completely curly hair.
Ryan ackles with your name. Yeah, but I don't
Play this is my culture
No, but shout out to the right
If you're like Darren Stark, ask me, ask me, ask me.
- Well, we got something right, you know.
Not like I got to go, but I mean like the archetype
of a girl who'd wear something like that.
- Yes.
- My white girl.
It's beautiful.
Come on, there's a story there.
(laughing)
- We're all connected.
- I know, wait so four times.
Is this your, when's your most recent rewatch?
- Oh, those were probably like a year ago.
And then this episode this morning.
- Wait, do you feel, okay, so it's actually amazing
to be a girl who like is coming to the city,
experiencing sex and to city and such.
You really like a visceral four watches.
That's not, that's not an easy feat to go through that.
- I mean, it's good to have like in the background,
like I know everyone's stories pretty well
and I watched and just like that all the way through
to the very end. - No, you're the first.
- You're the first who sat down
and said, "I've seen every episode of Anjus like that."
- I saw the movies, I did the whole Shabang, you know?
You know, which is when I start something,
you got to see it through to that.
and even though they did that whole chase dance thing,
like I still watched it, you know?
- Even though, I mean, at least they made a splash.
No one else did.
Like, I don't know any of the other people.
- Yeah, everyone's like, "Oh, it's so upsetting."
Like this shady-ass character was like,
"God forbid we walk away with something from that whole show."
- Right.
- The whole Chabang.
'Cause I can't remember one other thing.
And that's either in the brainstorming
as trauma or just bad writing.
- I know, they ruined Miranda.
Like, what was all that growth for?
Like, they just like fucked it up.
- It was so bad.
- I know, how.
- But the original series.
- Amazing.
- Amazing.
And this episode, fucking amazing.
(laughing)
Let's summarize the main four pods.
What are we working with this episode?
- So we kind of have this amazing situation
where this fashion, Cuban fashion designer,
Javier has passed away.
Rime that, say three times fast.
And Carrie and Charlotte and Samantha
tend to funeral two little black dresses
and Samantha and her 2000 K-feet.
But I kind of am loving.
- What's his name, Javier, something?
- Javier.
- I love it.
- I don't think they said the last name.
- I think it's like a,
it's one name, the Madonna situation.
- Carrie was like, "I knew Javier when he was Harvey."
I said, "Oh, full body chills."
(laughing)
- Which also, that's just like tone deaf writing.
His name was Javier, who's Cuban.
- Yeah.
- So, I don't know where that came from.
And then she's like, "Oh, my close friend passed away
"from a heroin addiction, hilarity and sews."
What's going on girls she's like a mess. He loves fashion, but more than that. He loved heroin. It's a way
Yeah, sorry I'm
Also, I'll do the summer for the girls who don't remember. Yeah, why it's actually so she's so surely
Wearing a hat and it flies away and then it runs into a widower who is mourning loss of his wife
and now picking up chicks with it too.
Hello, good for her.
And Charlotte falls right in the trot.
Miranda is choking a death in her new three-bed from apartment.
Hello, she paid that off, good for her.
Or she's paying it off.
But she doesn't have a little bit of a panic attack over that.
And Carrie, uh-oh, she's going to carry it away
back into big arms, which we--
We just covered the last episode, minutes ago,
where she's like, and I'm owning being single.
And then it's like, so three minutes past,
and now you're calling big.
- The conclusion of last episode, to this episode I'm like,
"Well, you lost the phone."
- Well, you know, she keeps us on her toes.
- It is like, bigs probably under contract
and they had him not on the first floor of the season.
- Had to wear them back in.
- Yeah, they're like, "Well, we're gonna need
"to put them in the rest of the season."
- W, Emmy is good.
- But they get dinner and then hilarity ensues.
- Yeah, it's like fucking great.
She's like, based with her arm mortality
and then she's like, questioning like, things she didn't do.
Like, she's like, "Oh, I should pay my bills,
"go to Greece, paint the bathroom,
She's like, now I'm just bounce on that dick one more time.
I'm like, what the fuck, girl?
I need to pay my visa.
And then you're like, and then she's like,
I'm not gonna fuck you tonight.
You're fucking three minutes later.
It's good, 'cause it's like no one's
to have their priority straight.
No.
Go for bed.
Oh, and then Samantha.
Samantha becomes, I'm a stoned and easy A.
She's cut off from society, because she kisses that man
while trying to get money for the hubby.
I probably ask, man.
I said this dick.
When, here, I'm so pissed because the woman's so mad
and cancels Samantha.
Meanwhile, her husband's sitting there,
smiling like, "What's she gonna do about a bitch?"
He hits her.
Oh, my God.
(laughing)
That's why I was like, "Hmm!"
She was just a little power she has,
and then the control of Samantha
didn't she can do anything else?
Yeah.
Dynasty.
Oh, my God.
It's like actually kind of amazing to kind of see
a woman lose everything so quickly.
Yeah, for her to mind away, it's so funny because we were on an earlier upper.
So we were discussing.
how they never put these girls in a situation where they're the cheater, but I'm like, actually, we're kind of in retrospect, all they do is cheat on other people. And it's great, thank God. Why not tell a narrative where a woman is constantly kind of losing her own morals? - Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I feel like Samantha's always cheating, but she's like, it's fine, but then the girl gets her. But she's like, she's like, well, it finally caught up. Like, I finally, like, this is it. For them to be able to connect before social media, I'm like, how is she calling everyone in town and being like, don't let Samantha Jones? - She opened up her little call book, her little, what do they call those things? - Oh, yeah. - Roll it around. - Roll it around, it's not a rotary. - She said, the roll it around. - She canceled. The funniest line, I think, is when she's confronting Shippy. And then, yeah, she tries to like, ask her forgiveness and stuff, like, she's going to the Pope or something. And then she's like, 'cause I'm a ho-ah, like, what did she say? So funny. - It's very humbling for Samantha and she deserves that. She deserves that, like, I love her down, but yeah, you're a ho-ah. (laughing) - It looks crazy work. - But I do love that she's like, I know what'll fix her. Me calling myself a whore and then she's like, no bitch, you still suck. - She ate her up. She said, you made your bed and you gotta lie in it and you're good at that. Aren't you bitch? (laughing) - It's a good burl. - Yeah. - I'm like, I want that tattoo to gross my forehead. - I'm just like, how do people know her first in last name when she walks into a restaurant, like? Well, 'cause her PR firm has seen that. Well, the whole restaurant sequence so Samantha's being blackballed from every restaurant establishment because she's up with the lawyers. The lawyer who is married, so the wife takes vengeance as any good socialite would and she doesn't even sleep with him, you guys. She just makes out on the couch for, like, fours. - Is there home? - Well, but she didn't know they're married. She didn't even know they were married. - She definitely knew. - Well, she walked through the four yay. They're gonna family picture up. - She knew, that's why. - She deserved everything that happened to her in this episode. (all laughing) - Have a Samantha apology. - But I love this. Well, I love this sequence at the restaurant because the waitress comes up to her. She goes, Samantha Jones, your credit card is not accepted here. And she goes, "Oh, it should be like, I have amazing credit." And she goes, "No, we just want to take any of your money." It's like, so she goes, got a free lunch. - And no, but I was thinking that I'm like, that's nice, but like, it was humiliating. You know, they waited till she enjoyed her meal and like, kind of was like, we don't want your money. It's stinky bitch and like, they just like, trampled off. Like, in shame, all killed for that kind of power. - She had to pay cash. - Is that what? - Yeah, I watched it. I actually knew I did it. - You watched that episode. - She paid cash? - So basically, her card gets to client. They're like, ladies, we're leaving. And she gets up and she pulls out cash from her bag and drops on the table and she's like, off my life. - Oh, maybe she did it kind of like as that. You're, I'm paying either way. And not like she had to pay cash. - Right. - Yeah, I mean, you know. Just to have, like, have a little bit of dignity walking out. - I'm just like, well, they were headed out anyways. The most is we're finished. Like, yeah, it was just like humiliating imagine. They're like, we don't want your money and they like, shade you. - I guess that would, I would call myself right after. - That's like a really deep level of shade. Like, that was hate. - To me, I'm like, I would love to be so hated. I can eat for free. (laughing) To me, that, she sounds like amazing. And I would love to be able to. - I know, I'm like, oh, so I just have to experience ego death for free steak. I'm in. (laughing) - You just have to get eighth assrooms for that. Nice. (laughing) - Sheeper. - Kind of the whole sequence of Samantha is that, it's like a series of confusing events, Lemney Snicket, where she is going from, going to Shippy Shiffman and then she falls into the situation where she thinks there's no way for her to get back into the good graces of society, but a man that is a complete darkness lifts her up. - Not just any man, Evan. Leonardo DiCaprio. - No Leonardo da Vinci girl. - No, it's Leonardo DiCaprio. - That's Leonardo da Vinci. - Oh my God. (laughing) - This is why I'm traveling. (laughing) - I was like, I can't enough. (laughing) So she's, everyone's facing their mortality, but she's facing her social death, you know? And then just the way they stylized it, he reached up and grabbed her, like he was Jesus, coming to save her and the backlighting. And this guy looks nothing, like Nia da Vinci and Leonardo DiCaprio. They could have, like HBO, you have the budget. Like you could have gotten someone with a little bit. - It was a shadow puppet. - No, you can see the man's face. You can see it's dark, but it looks nothing like Leo, but yeah, she ends up having to do physical labor 'cause she can't get her way back in. - She's like, I'll actually just volunteer building the house or whatever. - Yeah, that's beautiful. - And he was there too. - But it is amazing that Leonardo DiCaprio, like imagine the writers room where they're like, how do we get Samantha back in on her social bag? What is the possible way for her to get out of this? - So she fucks Leonardo DiCaprio and that's how she gets back into the graces of Shippy Shiffman? - I mean, this is not like the height of Leo. This is like 98, 99, if you've seen her on town. - Yeah, she connects with Leo. And so then she has new social capital by being friends with Leo. So people are like, oh, like I wanna be where Leo is. - The thing is a Shippy Shiffman character never care about Leonardo DiCaprio. - Who should be Shippy Shiffman? - She's the girl we prefer to eight to 10 times. (laughing) - I know, I'm saying, but who is she? - She's the HBIC girl. - No, I know. - She's just like a big dog socially that would like help. - Yeah. - Or she thought that would help her. - It's a different world. Like we're talking my old money verse new money. It's like this. - She just doesn't care about Leo. I just find it hard to believe. Leo is like, let's Ichanica just come out. - Okay, well in Shippy's world, you know, just came out her children and she is pissed off that Timmy is coming out. It's gay right now, so she's bigger fish than fry. - Yeah, and that's after the fact. And also did you notice like how much hotter Samantha is than all these ladies? (laughing) - And they're supposed to be like the same age. - She's just so much cooler than them. - No, it's like, they light her differently. They fully lighten it. - Yeah, that's it. - All the other women are in the dark and she's like perfectly lit with the perfect blowout and they're like, she sucks and we're mad at her. It's like, why is she's glowing? (laughing) - She's stunning. - No, that's what I love. Do we like Brooklyn comedy? They thought it's like trying to blackball someone from anything, it'd be the hardest event one could do. I don't, I was truly going through my head. It's like, I would love to blackball some people, but I don't have enough social capital for that. And be it's like, how would this one even call every restaurant in town? - Damn. - I'm just like, well, the comedians in Brooklyn comedy aren't going to dinner. (laughing) - You're not invited to our picnic. (laughing) - Damn, you can't get a slice with us. (laughing) - Jay, I don't know, maybe you could blackball them from shows and stuff. If you want to get real dirty about it, depending on what the person did. - Yeah. - It's so much administrative work. - Yeah. - I just can't imagine these women having, I guess they have that much time on their hands. - They hate her. (laughing) - Yeah, and they really hate her. - He really is powerful. - I would hate her too. If I was them, stop stealing my husband every day. Stop stealing my friend's husband. - I know. - Grabbing asses, like careless, careless. - He's like, I only did that 'cause I was drunk. - Yeah, she says, only grabbed your husband's flat, preppy ass, which air up to. - Yeah, I was like, "Coffee." - But no, she paid her a worth. (laughing) - Meanwhile, we crawl over to Miranda fully and her power suddenly. Now, I think it's crazy. - Russell gay is tear cut of the entire series for her, I think. - There's no beating the allegation. They're like, "You're boyfriend? "The way to like, your boyfriend's not moving in." And she's like, "Obviously, I'm a lesbian." (laughing) - The signs were there. - It is. - It is just like, when did we decide that Miranda was ready to buy an apartment? That's like a big deal. - She's a big shot lawyer. - When you work in big law, girl. - You can do that? - When you've been in big law for at least seven years, that's gonna make you what? - My brother's a lawyer and he doesn't even have a one-bedroom. - This is today's price saying. - Right. - It's yet a firm. - He's not a firm. - He should be able to have a one-bedroom. - I actually don't know what he's doing. - You would have to talk to him to know something like that. - Yeah, he doesn't really text. Well, I've never texted him, but he doesn't. - He's like secretly doing heroin, like Javier. (laughing) - I don't know, look into that. That's a problem. - The last time I saw my brother was at Evans Family's Thanksgiving. - That's so sweet. - I've seen him more recently than that. (laughing) - Are you guys related? - It is. - No, I just brought my family to Evans Family's Thanksgiving last fall. - That's beautiful. - Yeah, well, that's how you cement the marriage. - Yeah. - You bring the families around. It went so well, it was kind of perfect. - Never forget Evans' mom. Like we had the Nancy's show in Ridgewood the night before and Evans' parents came and my mom came. And they were like, we were really nervous after that show that y'all would not be a vibe. But in the light of day, y'all were way cooler. - Okay, amazing. - Did you finish your parents' faces, though? - No. You just told me they said that to you. - Yeah. - And I'm relaying it to Caroline right now. - But you and my mom's inflection, perfect. - Thank you. - That is good girl. You're better than me. It's straight from her mouth, I swear. - Should I become a lawyer and buy a three bedroom? Is that how easy it is? - No, this is a TV show. - Oh. Maybe it is. - If you look at the track, you're on your own. You're gonna get one before your brother. - Yeah, you're gonna get one before your brother. - Yeah. - Take that, Tommy. Love you, King. - Successful. - Oh my God. - And then she, wait, okay, I thought when she meets the old people, it was gonna be a whole trope of like, she moved into the old people building. - But I love that trope. - But then it wasn't that at all, they were just like. - The casting was amazing, first of all, for the woman that came up to her. I'm like, grim reaper. Hello. Like, that was crazy. I'm like, you could not write this more accurately. - Yeah. - Well, I love that. Every car building is as filled with old people, because Broad City has the same. - Yeah.
thing. Yeah. It's a truth. Friend of the pod ESA lives in a building with all old people and they got they like the landlord confronted her and was like you need to talk to them more in the hallway. They say you're always in a rush and it's like a co-op so it's like she has to like engage with her community. It's true. And she's like I'm always just running late but now she like we'll talk for 20 minutes to the old people. Well the hallway's the third space. People forgot that New York. That's insane. What are you talking about? She's like I had to tell like the old lady next door that she'll show up late to an open. I can be like I had to talk to my neighbor. But that's not just about that. No it's actually beautiful. Is it like ring controlled? Like what? Yeah. Oh okay. I'll talk 400 words a minute. The real price you pay. No literally. Well I'm manifesting the one bedroom for under 20 to 100 and prime Williamsburg starting August 1st. If anybody has any leads please. I'm putting it out there. I'm putting it on three cameras. Message me. No. I love to figure that out for myself. That'd be awesome. Let's cut to our first break and when we get back we will discuss more of this four girls one funeral episode. We are given certain tools in this lifetime and it's important that we use the tools correctly. When we're given options why not choose a good option. I have been loving the platform square. All my favorite modules are addicted to using this. I remember I had a car wash in high school and we said how are we gonna raise money to keep our democracists mid high school alive. And a brilliant girl Heather she goes oh my dad has been using something called square and it makes it so much easier to collect people's credit card numbers. As we move to a less cash based society and go Heather you're the smartest girl I've ever done met in my whole life. And thank god for you and thank god for square. So watching Miranda through this sequence of having to identify yourself as a single woman while getting an apartment. It's truly a devastating truth. And I don't think I actually have realized like how much you are clear like defined as a woman when you are single. And I ultimately like see this in a similar way that even being gay is honestly being a single woman. Like it's a single woman's a lot like being a gay guy. It's kind of specific class. Like you're just you're allowed into so many. Oh, it feels awake. Honestly, like at least a separated woman because because a whole sector of America thinks you are radical and like us living a spinster lifestyle like living an alternative lifestyle like because you're sick. Go and it's like, okay, I mean, I really like fold them while. Yeah. I mean, that's true for us specifically though, but like not every single person or gay person is like this. Right. Some get people to get married. I mean, we're like creatives. We're in New York. We're just talking about sex in the city on a, what, what is it Friday morning? You know, we out here. It's three p.m. Oh, sorry. I slept in solely. It feels like nine a.m. But it really is. I mean, it's definitely like I think with the prospect of like separating as a woman where you like lose, especially in the 90s, like you lose a sense of like power and rights in a sense or in privilege, honestly, like compared to when you are in a relationship where just your proximity to a man lifts you up more. I mean, we see that with even Samantha in this episode as well where the women who are married have more power also partially because of proximity to powerful men. Right. And Miranda really has to define herself by this. And when you're gay, like giving the choice of like coming out or not, like part of it that a lot of people don't come out because they're scared of like losing a certain sense of privilege that they have by identifying as like a straight man. So it's so interesting like divorce in a way is like the same process of coming out because it's like the our worst trauma. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I feel that. I mean, I'm from Texas and when I go on Facebook, every single girl's profile picture is them kissing a man or like hugging their man or whatever. And I'm like, you're allowed to just post a pic of yourself girl. But they're like, this isn't enough like I get capital by having this ugly man next to me. And I'm like, why? You really, you do feel like you feel empowered when you have a man next to you. Yeah. It's awful. I guess it's all like women in this show. They were allowed to have their own bank account for about only 10 years. Exactly. I was going to say they're just get it's like two decades after women were able to like get their own credit cards or buy their own houses. So people are still adjusting to that. Yeah. It's like the first generation of like like these were kids who like, oh, when I grow up, I can do whatever I want. They're like the first generation of women who thought that way. Yeah. So it's uncomfortable. There's some pushback like that little balding man that was making her check all the boxes. For having a panic attack, I didn't see coming. Miranda, that is so unlikely, girl. I know. I love the trope in the TV show when a girl's like, I'm dying about heart attack. It's like, okay, just breathe. I know. No, it is severe panic attack, but they first make her almost get hit by a taxi cab. That's trust me. I rushed off to the hospital screaming at Carrie. It is like Carrie's a bestie. She came to that hospital a little no time. Yes. She is a good friend sometimes. So I have that in my notes here. So it was just like comparing Charlotte and Miranda in the episodes because they seem like polar opposites. Right. But they're like doing the same thing. They're both in panic mode, except Charlotte's taking action in a psychotic way. And Miranda's just kind of like watching it happen and like freaking the fuck out about it. Yeah. Miranda's like, I'll freak out this way. And Charlotte's going to freak out by loving this emotionally. I romanticizing a dead guy's wife. Are you crying? Because your wife is dead. You nasty bitch. She's crazy. She's like, he can commit like he's able to do it. Yeah, he probably died before he could cheat on his wife. Charlotte is the craziest most intense character of the four. And she like has us believing she's like the most proper. It's same as Marty Michaels where you're like, bitch, you're nuts. How did you get like the normal treat like put on you? Like I literally wrote Charlotte is a psycho. Because I'm watching and I'm like, oh, like I get it because she's the only one that's like acting proper like in the first like two minutes of the episode. But then I'm like, oh, oh, she always finds a way to lose us. Yeah. Well, it's how women are more likely to hit on a man if they're married. Oh, like they say like the ring attracts women. They're like, oh, like, we're right. Are you only get hit on when you're in a relationship because you're actually putting out fair mones? Well, you're more like you're more of an like an object of desire because you're less attainable. Like think about what you're like, carry part of her attraction to Vegas because he's unattainable. He's unattainable. And I think it's similar to crossback attachment style. It's a point. But also, it's like also the competitive nature of being a human where we always want what we don't have and like we fight for it because you think that will be the thing that like solves our internal English. Yeah. But in reality, it's probably even the thing creating the English to begin with. Just got sad. Just got pleased. But I'm like, yeah, what do we work to me actually even seems like, oh, that's kind of hot. I mean, it's bad to say, but I'm like, he went through it. There is something about like, oh, that man has a larger emotional well because of the trauma. But did you guys notice when he when they're at their first drink and he pays, he opens his wallet in a way where he's like, I hope she notices my life. He brought a prop. He's literally doing framing and would we and I got it. I've been there. I've done that. I'm like, oh, but we've all put our dead partner in her wallet on a date till Laura woman. Yeah, he's a sleaze bag and she like fell for it. I can't believe it. But then we got the beautiful scene when she figures it out and then she's hitting him with the flowers, which I'm like, oh my god, from the movie, do you remember when she's hitting big with the flowers? I'm like, oh my god, it was like exactly like that. She's violent also. Like, no, I was like, I was like, he's lopping dude. Don't get her candy. We act like she's like, this like, so like, inhibited girl. And then she's like, as soon as she sees him, like, they're standing over her grave and she's like, fuck you. Yes. And it was just so nice. It was like a little, I think when they called that, yeah, like, it was nice that they did that in the movie. It was cute to see the moment. That was definitely unintentional.
- I was like, yeah, I heard, 'cause I heard guys do. So this won't retire. - No way. - Yeah. (laughing) Like, I've thrown a medium French fry at a guy before, yeah. - I guess it. - What made you quit, what made you clean? - Well, I guess I haven't had anyone to hit, so that'll do that. - Yeah. - Oh, I hope that changes soon. - Thank you. - Call me. (laughing) - You're gonna get back, I swear. - Yeah, only boxers apply, please. (laughing) - Boxers are really good at acting, though. - Yeah. - Yeah, 'cause-- - It's mostly bad. - Where were you and you found out the truth about the WWE? - Oh, that it was fake. - Yeah. - I was probably like, 10. (laughing) 10 years old. Like, I had a really good time when it was popping, like the rocks, don't close divasta. - Right, right. - And all that was popping, so I was like really into it, and then I realized it was fake. - Okay, so I found out 10 months ago. (laughing) - Damn, girl. - She's always like that again. - I don't know if it's supposed to be like a fashion party and you're so easy like this, but you're in disbelief 'cause you're at the 90s. - I understand that funeral supposed to be a fashion party. (laughing) - Well, it's a gag of it, but it's like you can clearly tell everyone's like completely stationary, cannot talk in the scene at all. And it's not, I feel like a living scene at all. I said first of all, I think barreling through the crowd to get to the grieving sister is like, it's so funny to watch like how far we've come with like just even like camera angles and how to trigger the eye. 'Cause it really just feels like a stationary scene when the actors are really like, peace and carrots, peace and carrots. And the craziest makeup you've ever seen. I love that, you know? They built the form. - In this situation, if you got married. If you got invited to the funeral of someone famous in fashion, would you wear a little black dress or would you wear their clothing? - Something black from their brand, if I had it, you know? - You're not gonna drop 2K today, I have. - No, I think Samantha already had the fit. - No, she bought it at the moment he died. 'Cause I went up 30% upon his death. - Oh god, damn, she's an opportunist. - Like, you know what? - You know what? - The better work. - As soon as Hossafina finished the eulogy, she's like, "Scuse me, seriously." - I mean, everyone's like trying to, like, carry's making it about herself. And then Hossafina with that moment with the jacket drop. She's like, "Oh, like soak me up everybody." Like, this is like crazy. - I love it. - I need the hat, I need the hat, I feel so sick. - I've never been to a Newark funeral, but I hope it's just like that. - No one's been to a funeral like that. - Do you want your funeral to be like that? - I want it to be a second line. - What? - Like in like, New Orleans, when you die, there's like a parade. - A celebration. - A celebration of life. - Yeah, yeah. - That's how I imagine. - I want people to be sad. (laughing) - You deserve that. - My funeral is nobody's business. - No, you're never gonna die, I assume. - Oh yeah, I'm down to just keep it up. (laughing) - Yeah, what am I gonna do in death? - There's probably like nothing there. - Nothing you cannot podcast when you're dead. - Well, there was a question in the episode, what's your version of heaven? - Right. - And Big was like a big, - A big, good, good, good, good. - He was like you a bed and he's like, while I didn't tell you who was in it, he was such a little nasty boy. - Like St. Joseph, who's in the bed? (laughing) He's weird. - It's 14 virgins. - I've never like even won sentence of his personality so far. - It looks so hot in that episode though. - No. - Yeah. (laughing) - You not attracted to Mr. Big at all? - No, I find him very unattractive. - He's like a sexy bird. - Ooh. - I'm like, your silliness is silly to me big. (laughing) - I think it's 'cause you know how it all ends, baby. - Yeah, yeah. - Wait, he's hot to you. I think he's kinda hot. - Yeah. - Wait, I just saw a TikTok this week. You know how they famously fall in the River Lake together? Or yeah, that picture keeps coming up on my socials of her butt coming out of the water in the dry. So I'm like, yeah. - This is what it is. Apparently as soon as they wrap the scene, she got taxied over to a hospital to get a tetanus shot. - My god. - So she wouldn't get sick. - I mean. - Let's come back then. - Yeah. - I'm like, damn, actors be going there. (laughing) She should get to be a producer on the show and make money. - Well, she did, and I did a lot to the show. Why are you like? - You know, Rumor has it, she's writing a book. - Really? - Like a memoir? - No. - Like a fiction? - Like a children's book? - It's giving, it's giving, it should be. - It's a woman that looked at a show. - I think it's like a clothing forward essay book, but it's probably more of a coffee table book. I don't know. - She's writing a coffee table book. - Actually, you know what? - Rumor has it, she's writing a coffee table book. That is exciting, though. - And you like Mr. Beck? - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Why? - He's hot, and he's being direct with her, and she's just letting herself get twirled up. - Now, we just spent the last six months seeing Carrie's struggle to heal from breaking it off with Big. And then she finally seems like she's going to stop bringing it up and is over it. And then she just makes a 30 second phone call being like, "You want to get dinner?" And he's like, "Yeah, what the hell?" - 'Cause she's on full yolo mode after the funeral. Yeah. - I forgot, she's on full yolo mode. - It's a new setting on the phone. Do you want to serve yolo mode? - Yeah. - I'm just like, why aren't her friends like Carrie? No, don't do this. - Well, 'cause they're not in the room with her. - Oh, okay, yeah. - Yeah, and they're not sick of it yet. - Uh-uh. - Right, we're only in season two. - Yeah, yeah. - Well, see, I'm like, "Girl, do people you can call "when no one's around?" That's when you do the crazy stuff. - Right. - Honey, the phone calls I make, I don't know. (laughing) - What phone has she made? - I can't follow up on that. - We don't tell us. (laughing) - She shows you call log. (laughing) - So then Carrie and Big hook up after Carrie's like, no, and then what happens? - So Carrie's like, we are. I love you being like, here's what happened. What the hell happened? It's fun. (laughing) - I'm like, going, I'm like, I know to hear what's the love of like, what's next. - So what happened? So Carrie calls Mr. Big. She goes, or she's like, do you want to do dinner? And he's like, with who? He's like, me silly. - Crazy. - Kiss me, y'all. (laughing) - Robert at 9 p.m. on Saturday goes, okay, I'll see you there. - No, he says it. - He says Roberta's 8 o'clock. - And I'm like, is he talking about Roberta's pizza? The one where, um, Marnie and, uh. - Charlie. - Charlie, the way I was like, Chris Abbott break up for good. - No, they don't break up for good. - Don't they? - They get back together. - They get back together, but then he disappears. - I'll call myself. - Yeah, do it. - Well, but I was just saying I was gonna live forever. So, it's a nine life sort of situation. - It's a nine, it's beautiful. Um, yeah, so then she, she goes, but I can't sleep with him. I won rule, so she goes, you know what, please, I can't sleep with him at the bowling alley, but here's the thing. She rolled a strike right into his bed, because immediately after she puts out her own boundaries down, she breaks them. - Yeah. - I do love her declaring this most sexist pace you could take a person is the bowling alley. I said, oh, I thought bowling was like a cool date idea. - You're putting fingers and holes. - Yeah. - Mmm, it's thanks. (laughing) - You're selling all the shoes. - Mmm, we all big bowlers grow me up. Like, candle pin bowling. - What is that? - Oh my God, it's like a New England thing. So it's like tiny little balls and like thin little things. - And you just set it by hand, right? - What? - You set it up by hand? - No, it was like full candle pin alleys. - Yeah. - I was like, we'd have to make the balls ourselves. - It's kind of like pickleball. - Pickleball? - Y'all got Mayna Vena up here. - I'm not gonna turn this. - Hey, y'all got Mayna Vena up here. - Is that a bowling place? - Mayna Vena is like a combo place where you got laser tag, bowling, and an arcade. - Laser removal, bowling. (laughing) - A one stop shot. (laughing) - That sounds like it. - Actually, what'd be amazing? - No, it's an amazing place for birthday parties. I figured they have them all over the country, but no. - No, we can have our own things. - Which is hard. - I was always the worst at laser tag 'cause I did not have the cardio skill set required. - No, it's about strategy. - Yeah, laser tag is intense. - Yeah. - Hey, really is. And there really are no girls that take it so seriously. You can ruin people who have their birthday parties and also end the friendship at a laser tag birthday party. - If you wanna end a relationship, take 'em to laser tag. - Please? That's how I lost my front group in fourth grade. (laughing) - You were just too good. (laughing) - Your haters. - Right the opposite. (laughing) - They blew up in the bathroom. (laughing) - Which, do you have like a Mr. Bacon in your life? - Oh yeah, my ex. We've been separated now. I've just really worried. It's been like three or four years since I've broke up with him for the last time. - Oh my God. - It's four years, four years. - How about you kept going back? - Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. This was like a five year entanglement. - Actually, maybe like 12 years? - No way. - No way. - It was like a five or 12. I can't remember which. - Wait, hold on. - 15, 10, 15 years. - Okay. - Like, this war keeps changing. - I just added that. (laughing) - Wait a minute.
We're like very young. So like we-- Kindergarten? It was like from eighth grade freshman year. Yeah, yeah, so just like off and on, off and on, off and on. Like, so I understand, Carrie, I understand. Of course. Jesus Christ, yeah. 15 years? Yeah. Do you still talk to him? No. Is it like a cosmic location? Yeah. Even cash out. I'm like broke. How did you know I was going to cash out? You were a dolly, that's a good question. No. I'm such a creep. Don't let me have a crush on you. That's so weird. I do think it's cool that we've normalized as a culture. Like you have to block them on Venmo, or they will look. Well, yeah, because he was doing it to me. It was like, we were both very, very toxic. But yeah, just to like fully get over someone, you do have to go to no contact, like to actually like move on. Right. It's hard for people to do, but you have to go to no contact and like really work on not thinking about them. Yeah. I might probably care if we're going five whole episodes without sleeping with big again. Yeah. Please. It's like, what? Two weeks? Same has it. It was also a trying couple of weeks. Well, it's so funny as we're leaving the wedding. And she's talking about like big again. And she's smoking a wedding, a funeral. And she's talking to it. And she goes, oh, he is so emotionally avoidant. In a way, like when he was divorced, it didn't fix anything. For me, only became more disattached. And then Charlotte's like, well, you broke up with him. Oh, no, I have that attachment issues. Attitude. Come on. Is the window closed with the cigarette? I'm like, what's going on here? I'm like, fuck this bitch. I'm like, get out. Get out. I love her hotboxing. Yeah. It's a hotbox cigarette. It's just a hotbox with civil rights. Fucking crazy. All these bitches are crazy. But I love them. And like they're knocking their deposit back on that limo. I know they wanted it for the evening. That limo. That's a hundred bucks down the drain. We don't do limos anymore. Ever since Uber came to town, when was the last time you all were in a limo? Like a stretch limo? Like prom, right? Not even then. Yeah, I didn't do that for prom. But I seen that in TV shows. It's like that. I think yes, it's team. Yeah, like, this is definitely-- no, no, my grandmother's birthday. When she turned 80, we took a limo from the suburbs of Providence, Rhode Island, into Providence, Rhode Island. That's a fact. I'm sorry, guys. This little Providence story, Rhode Island story. I mean, I think you're having the longest time. Have you been to Providence? Yeah, I love Providence. It's incredible. It's just the truth is, that was a brand trip, so we had a great time. Oh, I was like, oh my god, I'm like, they're like living it up, but Newport is like so beautiful. The way everybody was like, y'all really just loved it there. Yeah, we're like, yeah. We'll pay you. No money. This city, this city of Rhode Island. It's kind of a beautiful thing where we got, like, so we're invited to a comedy festival as influencer. We're all a little rodeem. Little rodeem. We're all a rodeem. Can we do a show while we're there? And like, no, but like, we can't wait to see what you're going to do with your Instagram presents. So, we're like, I was sure, guys, they're going to give you a sponsor. No, like, we're at the after parties hanging out with all the comics and they're like, oh, what show are you doing? And it's like, no, we're posting three Instagram stories a day and making a real one. But we did have truly the best time, I think, over. It was so fun. I love Rhode Island. My grandmother lives there. I love the A-loft hotel. Shout out. Hello. Yes, please. Come on. I love an A-loft activity. It's hotels made for millennials. And I like that they have something because they have pretty much nothing. They have made it like, what was the most millennial thing? Okay. So, place. So, what they do is they make the theme of every bathroom, like, life guard pool. And then- Did you get a sweep? I was not like that. I was draft themed. It was draft themed? At the A-loft, they would not be. I was draft flash galaxy themed. The decor of the lobby was this. Oh, okay, they nailed it. For audio listeners, I'm holding up a golden balloon puppy dog. It is really beautiful. Okay, we're going to cut your second break and we'll make it back. We are going to dive into the singular question. Hey, guys. It's Amelia. She's a pretty good girl. She has a pretty good girl. for Miranda. Less angry, but you're very, like, not, you're calming. I'm like, you're chill. -Competent? -Competent. -You heard it earlier, guys. You're like, "Clip that. I can descend to this people." So this is my manager. I'm competent. So, like, I used to be a Samantha. I was like a big whore for a long time and I was like-- -You have to be in Massachusetts. -Yeah, Massachusetts. -I'm fucking massholes. And then I was like, "Well, I'll show a little bit 'cause sometimes I have the fantasy of being traditional, but I'm just like, "Not." Well, like, Kerry, like we said earlier, Kaka-Kaka-Hurley, and she narrates her life where stand-ups, that's what we do. And she's a good friend most of the time. I can be a little selfish, but so is Kerry. And then we both love toxic dick. -Yeah. -So huge. -It's a perfect knot. -Yeah, so we have that-- -What circle? -I mean, connecting us. -Yeah. -Massifa. -Pull up. -And we've still got the CGI glasses on, right? -It's like these kind of glasses. -Oh, yeah. -Make things about myself. -Y'all have one monocle. -Oh, right. You're like, "Oh, what did I write down? I make things about myself." -Yeah. -Good, Kerry. -Love, Stardew. -You look the right, clearly, please. -Yes, yeah, I love writing. But yeah, I'm definitely a Kerry. -A Kerry. -What are, girl, a girl, are you this week? -I think this week I am a Miranda, because if I had a cat, I'd lock it in a kitchen for two weeks, two days as well. -Such a funny beat when she like overflows the food bowl. She's like, "You ain't eatin' me." -So cute. -Now, why did she want to get the cat fat again? -Because it was-- so the girl woman that owned her program before died. -Mm-hmm. -And then-- -The grim reaper came up to her and was like, "Girdie," or whatever the lady's name was. She was like, "She died in there. She must have been there a week. They say the cat ate half her face." And Miranda's like, "Cool. It's so cool." Also, she's like, overbeating her cat in case she dies. -And then she chokes on her. -Oh, that is cool, cognitive dissonance. -Yeah. -It's really beautiful. -Yeah, it was cool. -So, yeah, if I had a cat, I'd lock it away. -Totally. -No, but I really don't mean that. And it's kind of amazing to see how terribly these girls do treat their pets because episode before this surely gets a dog in an abandons. -And then an abandons the dog. -It's like, it's proof it'll put a no one should have a pet in New York City. -People always talk about how terrible the four girls in girls are, but it's like, these people are monsters. -They're pretty bad. -Yeah, they're glamorous. -They're in their 30s, right? -Yeah. -You know, and they're more privileged, I would say, than some of the characters from girls. -Yeah. -Yeah. -Yeah. Girl, what girl are you this week? -No, I think I'm a random because one thing I'm going to do is one day by a three-bedroom apartment, and they're going to be, like, for who? And I'm going to be, like, me. -Just you? -And they're going to be, like, just you, and I'm going to be, like, yeah, and they're going to be, like, is your dad a guarantor? And I'm going to be, like, no.
I wish I wish I had a dad Now what realtor now what get up Well, I'm just like why are these realitzers being so judgey like you're trying to make the cell just yes, I am the girl I know and she tried to like hook her up with her son Rand is like I like that. She said it like fair. Well when she says my son runs his own business and she's like sounds poor to me Star it up. Oh god, but then eventually she finds, you know, Stephen. No, hey, no one knows yet. Oh, sorry, who first is coming out as we talk about it? Spoilers My bad, my bad, my bad. What are you getting carried away with this week? Oh, right. It's time to get carried away Well, don't be a bitch. I'm not being a bitch. I'm just being myself. You know what? This is not about the episode. This is about my fucking life. I am getting carried away with the electrical grid in Brooklyn. Why did it turn 91 degrees? Not even that bad and my AC and that entire side of my bedroom lost power and I kept switching the breaker like they do in place Like I was really like being a girl who has an apartment like I was doing the work But the breaker kept just breaking a yarn and so I had to sleep to buy an AC get it installed by a man a month ago Be really ready locked and loaded to use it and then lose power. It's like and I can't export stuff on Premiere pro on my desktop Because that's plugged into that side of the wall. Oh, you used to use attached rubber bands to the thing that keeps flipping Oh, and some TV show to do that. I think shame loss Oh my god. This is why we watch TV for stuff like this But I think that would cause like a huge electrical problem. Don't do that They'll take into shameless. Yeah, I'm gonna be a fucking crack Maybe like and that's what we have TV dead serious But it just this is me. I can't the grid figure it out. Yeah, no And you know, I don't want to call call on Edison after what I've been for your landlord apparently Yeah, I'm getting carried away with I think it's actually really important to stalk your ex's on Instagram Like no contact shore, but it's kind of one of the best Program and we have out there. Are you going on a burner account? What's the buy you go in a burner account And you just look at your ex's Instagram account is like see how crazy they're being to feel it's just fun Like there's no more compelling narrative to someone and I think of Carrie had Instagram I think it's talk big once in a while. It might just crash the edge to have a reach out Right, Carrie could be way crazier if she had access to Instagram If she had the news moments feature on Instagram girls, you would never have to worry about big again. I don't think it would stop her She calls them via Instagram Audio call like yeah, I'm bad mouth Thank you pay me 13 dollars. Oh My god, I know please there, but I have plenty of phone calls to make. I'll tell you. Oh, go on What do you get in carried away with this week? What am I getting carried away with nothing just focusing on my standup? That's beautiful, right.
