Sex and the City S2E15: “Shortcomings” with Hannah Pilkes

The episode of *Sex in the City* season two, episode 15, titled "Shortcomings," delves into the complexities of family, love, and identity through interconnected storylines. Miranda’s date with a divorced father offers a humorous yet poignant look at how people navigate emotional vulnerability, especially when parenting challenges are present. Charlotte grapples with her brother Wesley’s new relationship, revealing deep emotional fears about love, loyalty, and the lingering impact of past marriages. Carrie’s evolving relationship with a writer and her interactions with her family highlight the tension between desire and emotional safety, as well as the importance of communication in relationships. The episode is layered with pop culture references, such as the "short-came" joke and the infamous Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes coconut cake anecdote, which serve to ground the narrative in relatable, real-world experiences. Throughout, the show balances humor and heart, illustrating how characters grow through moments of vulnerability and missteps. It also explores broader themes of family dynamics, generational shifts in relationships, and the evolving roles of women in love and identity. The episode underscores how real-life love is not about perfection, but about honesty, connection, and the courage to be imperfect—especially when it comes to family and intimacy. The tone remains upbeat and self-aware, celebrating the messy, joyful, and often confusing process of finding connection in a world that often demands more than it gives.

If I saw that kind of vitriol towards my kid, I would struggle to want to ask her on a date. - I'm spelling out divorce, so the kid doesn't understand. - And the kid's what, 14? (laughing) (upbeat music) - Welcome back to Girls Rewatch. - A podcast about girls and girls on TV. - I'm Amelia Ritalor. - I'm Evan Lazarus. - And today we are covering season two, episode 15 of Sex in the City. It's called Short Cummings and joining us on the pod. - No, no, not so short. I'll tell you that. - Someone so taller than Jeff Goldblum actually. (laughing) - Give it up for Hannah Bilke. - Hi. - Hey girl. - I did feel a little like, it was a dig, the episode that you chose. It felt so little winky, winky. And it's also like, oh, I have a short partner. Like we got it, short-came. But then I watched it. I was like, oh, there's really no reference to hide in this. - It's not a hate piece. - It's not a hate by step. - But it's a good one. - You never dare ask how tall your partner is. - And the answer is, and I would never dare tell you, is somewhere between 55 and 557. - Oh, the sweet spot. - The sweet spot. - I love it. - Yeah, a cool foreign to shorter than me. - Yeah. - We love it. I do have like, developed back things from just trying to reach, from sort of crazy. - I know, me on this pod, guys. I'm down here, you're all pleased. - Yeah. - If you ever run into Tina Fey, you guys can talk about it. - That is so silly. But I remember between Zendaya and Tom Holland and Tina Fey and her husband. - You're in good company. - Like, okay, well, that goes. - Yeah. - I needed something, I needed a pop culture reference. I needed to see someone on a carpet, owning it, to pursue the relationship. - Yeah. - Love you, damn. - Representation matters. - Yes, that's, and that's, yeah. That's where it's applicable. - Yeah, of course. - But. - Well, but what? - That's it, bye. - Let's quickly do a summary of this episode. So, in shortcomings, this episode's all about family. Miranda's going out with a divorce dad. She met up the gym. Charlotte's recently divorced brother, Wesley comes to town and Samantha hooks up with him and carried a fellow writer whose family has so much charisma. She stays longer than she should. - Oh, my God. - Let's jump into the episode. - Yeah. - We open on Miranda at the gym during family hour. Now, this gym with these kids, I don't think that. For Miranda, belong to a New York city fitness. I thought, city, what's it? I actually never. - I was trying to think of what, do we know what gym it is? Because I was like, is it New York athletic club? - It's New York, it's NYCF. Which I'd actually never know the acronym of, but I've seen my whole life. - New York. - NYCF. - Christian fellowship. - It's the one that's in every year. - Yeah, 'cause she's famously very about that God life. - The steps are black and purple, which makes me think plan a fitness. - It's not. - But she could not possibly be caught dead. - It's a one that's in every year. - Yeah. - It's a red circle. It's with NY. It's different in every city. They change this city. And then it's, I think you might be right back. - It looks nice. Like it looks like that's a lawyer. You know, she can shower off and not wear flip flops. - I know the price. - Yeah. - I actually don't know the name. I know the exact price. - What's the price? - 100 dollars a month. - Which is not that much. - No, it's a mid to your gym. - It's a mid to your like, equinox is absolutely psychotic. - Close to 400. - That's where I go. - But Blink is like negative four dollars. And they're like, I don't know, they say something and mine's been rent-freeze, like I'm only paying $20 there. - Where? - At Blink. Now Pure Fitness. - Wait, really? - Pure Fitness now. - They've rent-freeze my price because of a glitch in app. - It's because ma'am Donnie. - They ma'am Donnie. - They ma'am Donnie. - Ma'am Donnie. - Ma'am Donnie. And that you're like, you know what? That I could have been fine with like $24. Let's like freeze some other things, you know? - Yeah. - They fired all the employees. - That's great. - That's great. - That's really great. - It's like AI. - I'm talking through too. - I went to the Blink in Williamsburg. That's where when I subled a couple years ago in Hussie Deam and imagining working out at the Blink with the wig on in the stockings was like, that's really intense. - I do. - Yeah. - And they're always under their master. - Strong is all hell. No, it was like really inspiring. I started lifting recently and I'm like, oh, it does something. - Yeah. I really just watched people lift forever and I'm like, what are they doing over there? - What are they doing? - Skolping. - Skolping. - That's where I went, but I hate not being told what to do the whole time. If it's up to me, it's going to be really hard. - That's very true. - Yeah. - I'm self-motivated because I had a couple of people teach me how to do it, because otherwise you just get an injury. - Oh, God. - Of course. - I did this today where I finally had S history cry to give me a workout routine. - How'd that go? - Well, I had to play my jazz first. - What? - Just a classic. - I don't like my classics at all. - You know the age-old red all. - Like what happens if I lose? - Yeah, you're not going to learn just a lot, that's for sure. - But the kids running around the gym is such a lawsuit waiting to happen. - No, I'm like, well, that would never happen. - It would never happen. I don't think it's legally allowed. - Yeah, but I do love the idea of Miranda being so fucking pissed and then the dad being so charming in the elevator. She's like, what is the exact line? Any chance I could persuade you to take another ride? - I know. It's everything's always a new endote and we love it. - It's allowed to be on the nose because everything else isn't. - Yeah. - Like it's like so tongue and cheek in some moments, but I feel like in other moments it's very genuine. - Genuine. - Yeah. - Genuine, you know? - Yeah. - But she's such a gun when she gets into the outfit of her. - Of course, I mean, Miranda. - Of course. - She's so, I as the dad would, if I saw that kind of vitriol towards my kid, I would struggle to want to ask her on a date. - I know, the way he's immediately like, oh, I like her is like crazy. - I'm spelling out divorce so the kid doesn't understand. - And the kid's what? 14? - He doesn't look young enough to not be able to spell it. - I was stressed that the kid's name was Simon because that's on a children's name, that's an adult man. - Jesus, that's a CPA. - Yeah. - But he presses three, two, and one, so they have to stop at every floor instead of the first floor and then they get to talking and Miranda's like, fuck it, I'll go on a date with you. - I would say it's so fun to press an elevator button. - So fun. - Yeah. - It's purely empowering. - It's Buddy the Elfcore. - Yeah. - Do you guys know Serendipity? - No. - The restaurant? - The movie. - If you don't know that movie, watch it immediately. - I'm about frozen hot chocolate. - Oh, yeah. - Please. - Here's the thing, going to Serendipity is a lot different than it being depicted on screen. If you go in person, it's absolute black Friday hell. There's elbows. It's like a two and a half hour weight. I had a Caesar salad that I'm pretty sure gave me food for this thing. - Oh. - But was it worth it to sit by the fire and have a gourd just be there? - I've got to check that out. - You've got to check out if you're trying to get a stomach flu hit up Serendipity. - There's a reason it's Serendipity number three now. - Oh. - Yeah. - 'Cause they probably have a Caesar salad. Third gear. - Yeah. It does kind of look like my gym, not to brag, but I did, I was like in my thirties, I'm gonna up it to the price point a little bit. - That's awesome. - Yeah. My gym is a sauna. - Oh my god. - Oh shit. - I do planet fitness and it was like $11 and then I thought live a little bit. So now it's 90. - That's good. - Which is not, please, for a sauna. - Yeah. Sanna, really nice dressing room. - That's accessible. - Dressing room. - Yeah. - It's awesome. - It's on my clothes. - It's awesome. - Okay, so then we cut to the group lunch and they have a conversation at the town. - Across town. - Yeah, across town. They're at the group lunch and they're having a conversation about divorce men and how they should be put in the pound so we know what they are up to. - They are friends. - Julia has an amazing show. - I think she says. - Yeah. - Yeah, what's Julia's show? - She's a friend's joke. It's like every man she hooks up with, she will clip his ear just so we make sure we got them all. - That is incredible. Oh my god. I didn't know if the used part was about the divorce or about having the kid, but I guess it's probably an amalgamation of both. - I think it's the proof of the past with the child. - Physical evidence of something before you. - Yeah. - Like a long stretch of time too. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Like a commitment. - You can't get more roots than that. - Like you might have to interact with that mom. - You will. - You will. - You have to really consider that going into that kind of relationship. - Well, my. - The honest base off the relationship, you're not going to interact with the mom. Like she is not in a picture of her own. - That's true. - Why is he bringing her on every day and why is Simon home when they're hooking up? I'm like, she could get a babysitter for one night. - What's the apartment configuration? Is it the one bath? You know as they're none of y'all and unsweeted. - There's the children's bath only. - And it's full of like kids beach balls. - Yeah, it's poor. - And I'm like, she, when she pushed that door shut, what was she supposed to do? - No, yeah. - I actually don't know what the alternative was. - When the kid is bonking and maybe needs a stitch, I'm like, there's no way the door did that. - There's no way the door did that. I suppose he did come in and he's like, Johnny and she's like, it's a perfectly normal thing. - No. - Like that's also fucked up and weird and too early, you know? - What was the right question? - Of course mentioned, Randall's always between a rock and a hard place. - Yeah. - They don't make it easy for that. - They don't make it easy for that girl, please. - It's true. Oh, I feel so bad. - Yeah. - But it is so good. - It's bad, so bad, so good. I know, but she, sometimes she does it to herself. I feel like sometimes she's a crab apple and sometimes I'm like, is she a crab apple because life's labeled her a crab apple? - Well, yes, but I've only recently noticed that about my own life, how like I'm looking for the bad. - Sure. - And so I feel like more bad stuff happens to her because of that. - Manifest Destiny. - Manifest Destiny. - That's actually what Manifest Destiny is. - Not so Manifest Destiny is. - I gotta find out my English exam, I know. - Manifest Destiny is when you went for a $25 gem to $90. - Not so Manifest Destiny. - I do think it's crazy that Charlotte reveals her brother is coming to town to stay with her. She's recently divorced. - I think she reveals that she's a hot brother first off. - Yeah. The way she was talking about her brother was crazy and learning a lot about what your type is calling that hot duke Sure, sure, you want to feel like in a previous generation. He was in the monarch Yes, I just think Charlotte would be more upset if Wesley and Leslie Broke off a marriage like she's so such a purist, but she's like whatever Yeah It's weird I truly do quarrel with when like what'd you let your sibling hook up with one of your friends? I know Goodness of your heart. Your my my brothers as low as I would that was like the most I've ever winged man and someone I have hooked up with one of my bestie siblings But it was like when I was so young and in secret and a year later I was like hey Top party and I was up there for like 15 more minutes. There was how I could reveal go Honestly, surprisingly okay Because I was like in my defense. It looks just like you without long hair Yeah, and she was like I'm fine But I don't know if I would be okay with it. Would you guys? That's the same case I used in all my girlfriends I was like he's just like me but straight. You know, yeah, please. Yeah, it works Honestly comes like almost like territory at some point. You're like, I can never have sex with you But it's like maybe you could hook up with my brother and be fine for being a part of the family. Yeah, I guess I don't feel some ownership I don't feel like licensed over my my family I wouldn't ever find out because I don't talk to my siblings enough sure It's like only it's 11/2 siblings. You're worried. What? Oh my god one of my half siblings from I found out on 23 me because my mom You sperm donor, okay, and he DM me today, and he's like isn't this your bestie? And it was a photo a video of you getting interviewed on the street That's really weird street. Yeah, I some guy who kind of looks like Charlie, but it's straight It was out of pride event for sure That's why I really don't have fun at pride If you have 11 siblings and are they all in New York? No, they're all like spread out through like California I love that you're just you know, why don't I get interviewed at a pride of that you're wearing your red mesh with shorts? Oh, so that video was made two years ago No, no, no, I haven't worn the red top in here. No, I saw you post a photo of you when you're like that was the instruction It's like mesh and tight. No, I know this tall, but I wasn't Well, I can show it to you. Oh, I know this video. It was a year ago. Oh, well, I love that we sleuth My father sent it in my way and said you know this guy. I said yeah, most people thought I was very cute And so I'm like at least people were kind of organizing me for me really I get that a lot. Do you feel that yourself? Do you see that yourself at this point? I don't know who I am And honey ain't that the truth I don't tell you what it doesn't get any clear of the order you get I'll tell you what starting to realize because I'm like oh beans 22 suck I didn't know anything and now I'm like so I know less actually I will say about 30s. I feel like you know there is no question. I'm taking my makeup off I'm doing the cereal. Yeah, I'm doing the laundry Greg's doing the laundry Like I'm on you know, I'm buying flowers for the home And I I'm not gonna get out of it because my taxes are done right. Oh my god Those things help me know myself because I feel like on a baseline level. I'm like you know, you're something you take taxes That being said, it's all pretty nebulous beyond that That's perfect. It's a special experience. I belong ellipses Buckle up. Oh god. How are you ever going to ask you what girl you are? I know and thank god you've narrowed it down to an episode because I'm like just pick a day. Yeah, change a day Come on. Oh, yeah, yeah, I need a parameter. I love how much fun the girls are having with the Wesley and Leslie the names I love that. They are cracking each other up. Yes. They're like does he work out Nestle and they're all like heaving over their silence. They removed the word Nestle from it. Oh That's really funny and they they did spell it later, but with the trade mark C Oh wow That gosh, they're really on it Wow that licensing always like I guess lots have always been strict Laws always been new and that's another thing I've learned in my 30s laws always been strict and Nestle hates pun comedy Of course, basically hates pun comedy. They really like just like super cerebral Like my dog my dog is like improv My dog doesn't like puns truly like he's like cut that shit out in barks as soon as we're up and doing bids He's like that's enough I love that stuff. Yeah Okay, so let me cut over to Carrie dating the fiction writer Vaughan yeah Vaughan Weasel. That's Justin Thoreau. They looked it up. She's like Fiction writers have gotten hotter and I'm like this guy does not seem hot to me at all He doesn't to me either. I really wanted to survey the group with that. Yeah, I thought he was hot. Okay, so interesting There's gonna be there's gonna be some polarity with this again. It is the family The family's hot the family is so hot and the home is so hot. I mean that brownstone in the city Are you out of your mind? The mural the dining room. It's crazy. They were in the peace core. They were the feet That was a lot of unpaid work. Where did this money come from? How long were they in the peace core for? Generational. Yeah, that family is fucking families were in the monarch long before The Jewish family in the monarch So the mom's name is Wallace the dad's name is Duncan and then the kids are Vaughan Zoe and Franny Who is the lesbian because I feel like this was a time in Franny where it was like We're gonna make sure you know lesbian because deep voice and cargo pants And she's always playing basketball at the way she's moving. She's like Hey mom, thanks for that. It's like She's like stop caring care. It's like stop She truly was like always going like this. I was like we get it. You're gay That's right. That's a little on the notes to me. That was crazy But Carrie's loving them. I mean the mom is like Carrie. We love your column here and Duncan's like you for them Thursday You got to teach my I have an seminar on cultural site guys that Columbia you got a smart. Oh my god If I was carried be like all marium. Yeah, yeah, but that would be a case of like attracted to the dad a little bit I was more attracted to the dad than than Justin throw. I will say. Yeah, it's a thorough famously hot Yes, and yet there's so I think way hotter now That's always interesting and classic men that they age better Why am I afraid why is it nebula to my 30s because I've got five good years left That's not true. I've got trend now. I have thousands of years. You've got trend now and Evans as I need it My friend said no your skin is gorgeous and porcelain. I need it. I I want it like if I want something I need to do that. I just think it's like I'm start I've got to adopt my eyes and cross my teeth. No don't put on your eyes. It dries out your eyelids. Oh What do I do? What do I do about my eye? Your eyes and cross your teeth. It's crazy Don't talk about anything funny like that. Leslie is gonna see us. What are we doing for this? Yeah, you just need a heavy moisturizer because what happens? It will dry out the oils on your eyelids and you can get a really bad Irritation slash rash. Okay, so I need a heavy moisturizer and that's gonna make my lids less crinkly. I do volafill Okay I also And also about trying to know it gets better as you use it. That's what I'm told you need five years actually the Zeta math Okay, I need five years But I'm like Still going to do But you have to have health care to get it right? No, no, you truly can just go online and like a pharmacy, you know These med format these have indeed pharmacist. Yeah, but it's like 11 bucks. I'll see if I go through your doctor I need to get a doctor and then I'll get it. Okay. I'm gonna get a melee sign up for the queer clinic. Oh Yeah, I should call it in order Yeah, that's got to fall into the umbrella Right at the end, but it's there right in the last minute. Please. Yeah Let's cut your first break and we get back. Miranda and Roger on a date in Central Park. Miranda's having the time of her life. I've never seen this girl so giddy. - She's having fun. - We love to see her having fun. - She always uses the right side of her breaks. - It's a matter when a child hits her in a hat with a stick. - But yes, Simon has a bunking her in the head. - And it's okay, and this is so interesting to me. And I feel this also parallel to Samantha being offended about being called kind of like, uh-oh, as the times that Miranda's in a good mood feel random. There's no rhyme or reason. - Yeah, I like something. - Why this one today? - They're like, "Why Samantha taking offense now?" - Usually she's like, "Guess how they go." - It's like, "Why is Miranda being nice?" - That was the most shocking part of this episode. - You never know. - Those girls are acting out of character. I'm like, "Okay, there's a retrograde." - Yeah, exactly, yeah. - They haven't, neither one's been to talk therapy in a minute. - Yeah, or, yeah, that's what it is. There's something with the mood. - Miranda's matching set in this scene though. I was like, "This is incredible." - When they put her in a good outfit, it is like, when the ugly girl takes her glasses off. - No, literally, like, and has a way up into her. - It's so hot. - She's so hot. - Yeah. - Oh my god. I always had the same courage she was. I didn't see her, but she was at the like, "March, this weekend." - I love her, yeah. - I love her, love her, love her. - And Abby Jacobs, and they're all-- - Oh, Abby Jacobson. - Abby Jacobson. - What a pair. - I know, walk away from each other. - Oh my god, I miss everything. - I didn't, yeah, I know. I got here, like, as everything was ending. I'll just, like, kind of a sat time. It's like, crazy to come as prides happening in New York. - It's like the last week of any day in Central Park. I'm like, I'm gonna come to pride and stay on the upper west side. - There were some games there. - Okay, okay. - Floating around. - Some of them go to Midtown, some of them. - Those are some games, I think, Lesby is like basketball. - That's exactly right. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Get rid of characters like that. - But you went hard for the last week of Pride. - And well, 'cause it's New York City Pride. - Yeah. - It's different than LA Pride, yeah. - It's very funny, 'cause WeHo feels like this time capsule, where it's like, it's, it's like, very east side is where, like, queer culture lives a lot more now in LA, but on the whole, because everything's so spread out, you can't do Pride the same way. - Yeah. - You have to really pre-plan. And you don't have to pre-plan here. You just hop on a train. - Yeah. - I did see this out yesterday. I know WeHo is the second gay saber hood in America. - We're cap it up. - Sure, that makes sense. - But that's just gay girl. - But it still feels like the gay bars feel very, lesbian basketball, basketball. Do you know what I mean? It's very like, I'm, - It's so liber, it's so amazing here. The Dyke March really is the greatest ensemble of queer minds we have going down one street. - Yeah. - They dress, act, and speak in a way that is uncapturable in any other part of America, or maybe the world. Like, it's so unique to New York. - It is. It's a really, I felt that this week. It's the last four hours that I saw the remnants of Pride. As Pride was packing up its spindle and leaving, I really got a sense of the magic of New York City. No, but growing up here, I felt that as well. Like, I feel like from a really young age in New York, I was just like, oh, everybody's everything. Like, my best friend and I were planning follies in the playground, and he had two dads. My teacher, Mr. Rockwoods, did drag at night, and called me Mona, 'cause I would wine all the time. Like, from a really young age, I was like, I gotta be queer. - Mona is amazing. - Yeah, and he was like, okay, Mona. (laughing) And I was like, stop! (laughing) - To be a child. - We're cowboy boots, and he would do crazy voices for "Line in the Rich and the Wardrobe." - "Line in the Rich." - "Line in the Rich and the Wardrobe." - He got a rename, so they don't zoom. - "Line in the Rich and the Wardrobe." - But, so, like, they're having a good time on the day, and Miranda's like really actually falling for him, because he's like, I love stability and routine, and actually, I love marriage. - Is it that easy to trick women? - I'm like, I think in your 30s, it is different. I'm watching friends of mine date people that I cannot even fathom why they would be in the same room as them dating or not, because the pickens are slimmer. So I do think people require less to be one over the older you get, because you won't companionship. This isn't to make women sound, or anybody sound like damsels or depressing or, you know, like desperate, but it's just the pool smaller. - Well, yeah. - Except for me and Amelia, right? - Except, yeah. - Yeah, exactly. - It's gonna be, no worries, no problems. - Yeah, it's gonna be better. - I mean, no worries, no problems. But I think what he said to press me actually, and that he's like, I don't need friendships, I just need a partner. And that felt like, whoa, buddy, that's not-- - I was like, right, plug, and brand is like, "You're the heterosexual." - Holy crap! - Don't have friends. Why, and I think that's famously like, men don't have friends, and the straight men, and that is absolutely not something I want to sign up for. - No. - Get some friends. - And Miranda would hate him like being like that one. - She can't be, she can't be held down. - No. - Steve played basketball, basketball. This friends and probably all the lesbian's in New York, 'cause, 'cause of how it was depicted back then. - I can see him playing pickleball. - Oh, he's a hundred percent pickleball player. - He'd get a membership. - The loneliest men play pickleball. - It's a sad sport for me. - I know, once a girl played on us, or don't commit. - 'Cause you're gonna tear your ankle quicker with this tiny court, like we're not meant to move in these like micro movements, you know? - It's very like pop luck. Just get a bigger court. - If you don't have a hip hop background, it's not safe. (laughing) And famously, I do not. Though I did take an intermediate hip hop class at Millennium Dance Complex in L.A., which is where all the dancers go that are in, - In any day, it's level, extreme there. - To start with the intermediate, and they were like, film yourself girly, and it's just me sobbing, and then the background sobbing. My sister's so hot on the front, and I'm just pacing sobbing. (laughing) - I'm not equipped to do hip hop, and any time I've tried, it's like truly a performance of a lifetime. - Oh, in a good way? - Bad way. - In like, oh, she's doing something that's never been done before. - And she's turning, it's turning contemporary. - It's Sarah Burrellas' brave. (laughing) - That's what you're doing hip hop, too. - Yeah. - I want to speak hip hop. - Be brave. - I do poop, poop, poop, poop, poop, poop. - Oh, that's so funny. - That's probably like Pasadena hip hop glasses. - Sarah Burrellas' brave. - Yeah. - Oh. - She probably end them. - Oh. - Oh, yeah, yeah. - She never danced. - I did. - She never mastered that, did she? - Mm. - Um, what? - So, yeah, to the girls, I thought that branch. - Oh, well, actually really quick. - Fine. - Charlotte is baking her Nana's muffins for her brother, who really just needs a martini. - Right. - He says, "Where's your vodka?" - She goes, "I don't have any." He goes, "And you call yourself a lostp?" - Which was good. - Which was good. - And also dark undertones. - Yeah. - You know, like that's like, "I had a rich absent mother." - Yeah, like, there's a darkness to it, and it's so like-hearted. - Absolutely. - Forge. - Like, on the bookshelf, it was just types of vodka in between duck decoys, you know? - Oh, literally. - Yeah, and blue cheese olives, of course. - Oh, my god. - Oh, my god. - Oh. - Oh, sorry. - You don't like that. - No, blue cheese is vial, but I'll do an onion. I'm getting in my life as I get older. I can do an onion. - As I get older, I'll do a gherkin. - I'll do a gherkin. - I'll do a gherkin. Either way, our breath's gonna smell bad after that martini pick your poison. - I still just cannot believe there's an olive in a beverage, and that's like a thing. - You know, weirdly, I was a mart- you know what? I don't know if I'm a martini person, or if I'd so desperately wanted people to like me in my early 20s, but I was like, scotch, neat. - Martini, dirty. - And then it just, I became such a creature of habit. - Scotch, neat. They love me 'cause I ordered a scotch, they ordered-- - They love me 'cause I ordered 91 gas petrol. - And a cup, but I do wonder, I'm like, does anyone really like a mardini? - I don't know, but girls are always ordering, and I'm like, "Well, I'm gonna get my vodka crayon." - Yeah, because you wanted to taste good. - I wanted to taste like Andy. - Yeah, all alcohols. I mean, every beverage we've learned, like, is terrible at one point. - 100% on its own, which is why shots are actually one of the craziest, most sacrilegious things we've ever done and endured as human beings. - It's shocking. - Let's make it all happen faster and messier and looser and worse. - Yeah. - That's not a shock. - Let's make it soc more. - And let's make sure one of us cries and one of us gets lost. - Yeah. - God, we have bonds. - One old does a taste show. - Is he Wesley or Lesley? - He's Wesley. - Okay, and Lesley was his ex-wife. - Yes. - Nemi, of course, cut to Carrie having a six-hour four-place session at, what's the guys, Vaughns? - Vaughns? - Charlotte Weasel. - I mean, let's say, do you think the chemistry between her and her brother even though they are meeting for the first time I said it was like, "I believe that I was in. " - If they're dating? - "They had a real rhythm to their conversation." - Just a thorough theory. - I was brought with their lovers. - Oh, no, sorry. Charlotte and her brother. - I agreed. - Okay. - My past tense agreed. - I agree with that. - I agree with that. - This is, this is, what's the company's name for me? - You took your shot four years ago. - No, I agree. - Yeah. - I feel like some people, it's like Allison Williams in "Girls." I do feel like, Kristen Davis maybe has a bit of Charlotte in her in real life. - Oh, yeah. - And maybe Wesley has that actor. - Oh, right. - Has a bit of Wesley in him in real life. - They were, they originated playing yourself. - Yeah. - Exactly. They're the original level core. - Like, can somebody see them being on a siblings or dating pose? - 100%. - Because of the hair. - There's in the, in the scene where they're in the restaurant together and she's kind of close to him. It did feel like, are they gonna. - So that's why I thought she didn't want Samantha to hook up with him. - That's my man. - That's my man. - Is it her brother or her cousin? - Her brother. - Okay, 'cause cousin's a little bit more of a gray area. - You're like, "Brother me, it's loose." 'Cause now, but I'm in my thirties. Like, the cousin thinks that's what we're supposed to do. - The cousin's become on limits in your thirties. And that is the opposite of off limits. In case we're wondering. - Right, on limits. - I was, okay, so this is before they go out for drinks though. - Yeah, okay, so really quick, they have that and they decide to go out for drinks. But first, Carrie and Vaughan, they've spent the entire afternoon with their family. Carrie's so horny. He's so horny. They're gonna have the best hook up of their life. And then she just gets pushed against the wall and before he even enters her, he has calm. And she's like, "Oh, it's really, "I feel so sad for him in that moment." - But he, the acting on that, oh, it's visceral. - It's visceral. - Have you ever, and again, I don't know if we go this open, but have you experienced that? I've experienced something more humiliating, which is them either not being able to keep it up or not being able to finish. - Right. - Not being able to finish sometimes, I'm like, okay, they just, they just go over that. - They go over that. - As long as I have a having, you know, get to the finish line. - You're like, finally. - But that is, there's no way around that. - Right, I, we went on time, I got to get hard, I was like, it's the worst. It's the cruelest thing you could do to another individual. - Right. - It feels bad, and it's like, my body won't do it, but it's like, I'm sorry. - Right, yeah. - It feels wrong. - It's, it's, it's involuntary. - I know. - I think all our brains are so overstimulated though. It's like, I don't know if we have so much pre-exaculation anymore, but there is a lot of ED going around. - Absolutely, because it's all on fire. It's like, God forbid I have to be present in this moment. - There's actually a rise in ED because of ADHD because of screen time. - That makes a lot of sense. - Yeah. - Oh, how sad. - And then we're seeing celebrities having AI girlfriends. You know, it's like, well, why, like, let's all just eliminate the sex part. - Did you see they've started banning AI therapists in different states because it's giving people psychosis? - Yeah, of course, and probably telling them to murder at the end, because it can't self-regulate. - Not AI therapists, she's amazing. - Yeah. - No, and in the state of New York, it's a sanctuary state. It'll always have AI therapists. - It's a sanctuary state. - And why Yuland Collins got you, girl. - That's her name. (laughs) - But then, okay, so then they're at the group dinner. - Yes. - And Samantha tells Carrie to run quick away. She's being so funny about it. She's like, girl, I wish I had better news, but you got to get out of there. - I love she's saying which is it with a compliment. She's like, girl, gosh, do I. She really tries to, like, she doesn't, here's the thing that she does on this, but she does know how to hammer her silent. I wish that things could be different, but blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I think she ends it with a positive of like, fun someone else, you're like, oh, does he have a brother? - And she's right. - Go. - Because Carrie always goes to open face with it, which is like insult than compliment. - Absolutely. - And by then, you're like, what did she say for her? - And of course, just delivers the burger. (laughs) And Charlotte doesn't say anything. - Yeah. - But inside, she, me. And that's what. - And that's what. - Oh my, I will say, I learned so much about his. I like, it triggers history in my mind, the show, 'cause Carrie is this amazing line where she goes to Samantha, who had never sent any of her soldiers at the war to just say general padded. - Oh yeah, that was sure. You found out what the Gettysburg address was because it's like this city. That's always everyone's number one takeaway. They're like, I want to crack open it. (laughs) (laughs) - Why are they referencing? Yeah, she goes there with Carrie is describing how she thinks she likes the family more than the guy. - Yes, she's right. - And that's why she wants to kind of stay in it. - Yeah. - She's like, they're the Tom Cruise of families. - Which I'm like that. - And talk about, talk about something aging. - Yeah. - Like, it's like, that's when you feel the time. - Yeah. - Yeah, 'cause he was Mr. charisma then. - Like he does his own stunts. He's short, but hasn't, you know, he's like, Napoleon. - Yeah, talk girlfriend. - Yeah, short talk girlfriend. 'Cause was this pre-earth post that Katy Holmes jumping on the couch, Oprah. Do you guys know what I'm talking about? - I do. - I don't even know what that era is. - Tom Cruise's face looks like. - Oh, okay, sure. So, some would say hot. (laughs) - Hot. - But for me, I can't unsee what I've seen. - Why can't you do anything more? - I can't do anything anymore. - Yeah. - He dated Katy Holmes and this is kind of when the Scientology, but all, was like at its peak, and he got on the couch and is jumping on it going, "I'm in love with this woman!" And Oprah's like, "Shut up, you're being crazy." And it's also like, you don't, like, why isn't Oprah like, "What the fuck is going on?" - 'Cause she's in the dark rock. - And then he brings, they bring her out from backstage and they're both just like, and you can see she's like, "Help, help." - Oh my God. - So that's what they're like. - 'Cause that's not how you launch a relationship. - No. - It's very manic. Anyway, that's when I fell out of lust with. - I heard that coconut cake is that good though. - Yes, I want to get sent that, but surely someone else is sending it around. - There's Scientology sends coconut cake. - No, no, no, no, no, no, no. - Oh cool, cool, cool, cool. - He sent Leanne one, Leanne Morgan. - Oh my God. - I mean, you know you've made it when Tom Cruise sends you a coconut cake. - Yeah, did she say "I want"? - She said "I want it." - She got this out. - I love her. - She got this out. - Yeah, but she did win. - She's a superstar. - Oh my God, she's so amazing. - I watched her special and I was like, this is everything. - Yeah, she's extraordinary and also her story is so cool that she was like, I mean, she's on standard for 20 years and it's like selling out stadium style. - It's actually crazy. - If we ever had stuff about ageism, it's like we're just getting started. - That's one of her, I think one of her specials is called Just Getting Started. - Just getting started. - Yeah, which I love. - And then her book's called "What in the World Y'all?" (all laughing) 'Cause she's just in constant gratitude. I'm like, you are. - Oh my God. (all laughing) - Anyway, so what? - Anyway, so they. - Let's talk about some non-heavance on the side. - Yeah. - Miranda. - Miranda. - Carrie and Vaughn's mom go to lunch. - That's right. - Carrie and Wallace go to lunch and she's like, I've always had, now I'm talking to him. Is she Southern? - She's Southern. - She's Southern. - She's Jewish. - She's Jewish? - Nah, I've had all my kids. - My mom's from North Carolina and Greg and I are constantly like my mom said, "And I'll take you to that." My mom is no Southern accent, and yeah, we really create this like, don't calculate me. And I'm like, she's like, stop doing that. I was from Greensboro. It's like very much not that. - Not at all. - But they go to lunch and Carrie is like, absolutely like needs a mother figure. And it's like, oh my God, thank you, Wallace, for being so open. I wish your son wouldn't finish so fast. - Well she doesn't say those anymore. - She doesn't say that in the scene now. - No, she says something like, can I just say you are, I really enjoy you as a person. - Yeah. - Which is, I wanna say, I really am liking you. Like, she's using L word. - Yeah, it's, and the mom, I mean, yeah, there's clearly something happening there. There's like vibes are flying. - The vibes are flying. - To be close with a significant others parent though, is absolute kryptonite crack. It's like the best feeling ever. To be liked by them. - I'm sure. - And to like for it to be reciprocal. - The most feel like the night march. - Yeah, that's what it feels like. - Oh my God. - Feels like the night march. - Yeah, I will say like as somebody who has my entire life been like the girl who gets adopted by a family. I am like addicted to the high of like the mom and a dad being like, you're silly girl. - Totally. Or like she's one of the, she's basically in the family. - She's like, she could come on the ski vacation. - Totally. - Yeah, if you're going to that ski vacation, yeah. I mean, I did my in-laws have taken me skiing and Lord knows I didn't grow up that way. We had balls and nets. So, to go on and they help me get ski lessons. - Oh my God. - Oh my God. - Yeah, and they're speedy pups. - The pizza and fry you as parents. - Yeah. - The pizza and fry you. - The pizza and fry me. - Are you more pizza or fry? - I'm more pizza because I'm pretty risk averse. - Yeah. - As you can see, I'm a happy tall. And you know, if the Sagan churns for now. - Yeah. - Let me knock on. - Girl, please. - You're a folder. - I don't know if that works. - To knock on. - Look, the reverse is at. (laughing) - Perfect. - You're back in high school. - Yeah, but she, I'm shocked that. And I don't know if this is just to have an A, B, and C plot that Carrie would continue with this. But I guess such is a TV show at the show. - Well, she's like, okay, well maybe he was just really excited the first time. - True. - Like, the first time's always awkward. - Right. - Like, let's give it another shot. Like, maybe this isn't like, like, a perfect thing. - Well, do you think Carrie loves to be taking care of? - Yeah. - Right, and she's not finding that in this exact partner because he's a peer of hers. And it can't be the same mentorship relationship as he had with Big. - Right. - But she can emulate that with these parents. - And is this pre-repost burger? - Is this way pre-girl? - 'Cause when I first saw the tagline for the episode, I was like, ooh, writer. And that's to me the most triggering relationship was her and burger. 'Cause it's just like jealousy to me is the least sexy thing in the world. It sucks 'cause the other elements of this guy, I was like, oh, this could be promising. He seems like pretty balanced, you know? - He's one of my favorite boyfriends, honestly. - He is one of her not. - One of my line of sounds. - Yeah, I was like, oh, another writer, like, I feel like they could have pushed each other. I don't know. - They could have-- - To get that emotional moment and he won't tell you why he can't come on the bed. - And then, and then you go, oh, this won't work. - It won't work. - 'Cause it's not about the coming. It's about the inability to talk about it. - And I think it's right 'cause he is the most communicative over sharing family. - Yeah. - I don't like that they weaponized sharing, but I do think there is a degree of over sharing that. - I don't like that they weaponized sharing either, because I think it's important to say things you should add. - Absolutely, otherwise life is worth living and making mistakes like that, 'cause it makes for a richer, more interesting life. And let me tell you, having dated, like, repressed family before and we're all sitting around the table and all you can hear is the colory. That's not fair. fun either. That's boring. The unsaid is awful. And that fucks the person up too. Yeah, sex is weird that way too. And that is what we see paralleled in Charlottes relationship. Yeah. Oh, that one's really hard for me. Well, let's talk about a brighter subject. She goes out with Carrie and Samantha shows up and and she's like, Oh God, Samantha's gonna try and fuck my brother Wesley. I think one of these scenes is it's like people are always in Charlottes and Samantha aren't friends with I actually had a hard time always swallowing this. But I know they're not always as close. But it this scene to me emulates actually they are close. Charlotte just knows a parameters of her brother, which is that he will sleep with a girl who wants to be stuffed with. Okay. So do you think that's a bad thing that Samantha kind of pounced in this? I'm really curious because I had a different experience. I don't think it was a bad thing. I just think Charlotte knows exactly what was going on and she didn't want it. She didn't want her brother to hook up with someone because she still believed in the marriage. Okay, wait, explain to me the the status of what where Wesley and Leslie were at. So they're going through their filing because there's an amazing line where she goes, Oh, you guys had the most fantastic wedding and he goes, we're going to most fantastic divorce as well. Yeah. It's already like there's paperwork and everything. Yeah. What are you fighting for at this point, Charlotte? So I think I dream. I think actually for herself because she wants to believe love is because he also has other line where she goes, she goes, but it's like the marriage was so wonderful. You guys were so perfect together. And he goes, surely, when's the last time you were in a long-term relationship? Oh, I know. Yeah. And she's like, muffin time. But it's also I think Charlotte is scared that her brother is like very sensitive and not emotionally over it. And she wants to sleep with him. Yeah. And Samantha would just like break his heart. Sure. And so when he's like, thank God, she fucked me. I haven't gotten late in two years. This was a good thing. I feel so much better. She then is like, Oh, I'm not mad at Samantha. I'm going to bring her muffins to apologize, but also say thank you for fucking my brother. Got it. To her interpretation of it is that Wesley's heartbroken and looking for love because she can't, I think Charlotte never goes to sex first. I think she goes to, she goes straight gateway to relationships. She's like, Samantha's not going to want to date you like you can't like life. And you can't get hurt again. Yeah. I see. Okay. Bringing Carrie, the idea was not to pair them up, right? No, no, just like girls night out with the ones. Yeah. Okay. It's like when your brother raises you in college. I'm just like sorry. But even if it wasn't Samantha, you're bringing an eligible bachelor around like these girls are thirsty. Yeah. One of them is going to go for it. But curious having the time of her life was long. That's true. That's true. Let's get to her second break. Hey guys, sorry to interrupt the episode. I wanted to talk to you guys about what it's like living with long face. And I've self identified as a girl with a long face. And what's tricky about it is I don't know what sunglasses are supposed to look good on me. And it makes buying new sunglasses so stressful because I'm like, I actually am going to go ahead and need to try these on to see like what it actually does to my face. That's why I love Warby Parker because they have like a try on like from your computer thing. I literally just did it. Insert photo, what I landed on. And you know, the virtual try-on of it all makes me kind of feel bad for this ex and the city women because they never got to experience virtual try-on at WarbyParker.com. And I think they would have really loved it. Me and Evan just did a show at Union Hall where we live, season one, episode two of the Rachel Zo project. And all the girls from that year were wearing some of the biggest glasses I've ever seen. And I said, I want to do that. I want that to be my next chapter. I want to come to quality for the price. Warby Parker is the best. Their prescription glasses start at just $95. So you can actually get quality and stylish frames for an affordable price. Okay, and random amazing perk of Warby Parker is that they have everything you need for happy rise. This includes contacts online I exams and sunglasses. Guys, it's kind of a one-stop shop. And I love when something's a one-stop shop. They also have over 300 retail stores across the U.S. So if you're an in-person girl, go check them out. Right now by one pair of glasses and get 20 percent off any additional pairs at WarryParker.com/GirlsRewatch. That's 20 percent off any additional pairs when you purchase one pair at W-A-R-B-Y Parker.com/GirlsRewatch. And we're back. So Miranda and Roger hook up. And Miranda's like, I think there's a slinky my back. And he goes, I like to brand my woman. Whoa. And then she goes to P. After sucks because she's smart. And crazy that some of us are still not doing that. Yeah, I love that she sits on a toilet though with her right and nude and nude. And okay, the level of comfort right off the jump. You know that there's a sun. It's the first time you've got sex. It's the first time you get in that home. You don't want to throw in a tea. Even if she doesn't always home, you don't want to throw on a tea. I know. You're sex. She's being coo-coo bananas. And the areas that she's conservative and the areas that she's just like a free spirit titties out in the wind. Yeah. Is to me confusing. Yeah. Confusing. But you know what? God forbid a woman be complex. God forbid a woman contain multitudes. I sin corrected. Any time a character like keeps being wishwashy, I'm like, you make up your mind. Well, by the way, and that's how women are. Yeah, that's true. I always think that Miranda tries to be because she has a hard time connecting with them, but she also is the one who, she like clearly is a born and bred feminist. Sure. She feels that she can claim her body in any way she wants like that. That's true. And I do feel like it is kind of like the world according to Miranda in a way of like, I'm not considering the environment. I'm just going off of what feels good to me. Yeah. And in that moment, it was like, I'm gonna stay nude. She got the towel. She felt genuinely sorry for hitting him in the head. But it's also like mind you. Simon hit her in the head. Sure. Yeah. I always code it with Miranda. I'm like, well, you did the same thing Simon. And it's like, so that's a four year old. Right. And the stitch of it all is questionable. Yeah. He's being insane and just go, just go, not even like, not even understanding like, oh, it was a mistake. It reminds me of it was exact same plot line or earlier to season. Samantha is dating a guy who is a servant. And every time that that guy leaves the servant like kicks Samantha out of bed. And then she fakes getting injured by him. Mr. Havi. Yeah, literally remember his name. They all have to get like, I watched it in third grade. I love that art. Wait, I did have one. Are we gonna go back to the getting hit by the door because I did just have a realization that she, the first thing she does is kind of make a joke when she's out in the, she's like, I thought that maybe if you saw my vagina, it would be like a gateway to like child psychology. And maybe that was the wrong initial response. Right. It's like, does she lack the maternal bone that's like, are you okay? Yeah. You know, I wonder if that was the red flag. She's a kid at all. She's a kid. Yeah. She's a kid. It's just like so bloody. It is really. Yeah. I think maybe it's that that there's not really a reaction to that. It's more so, you know, timeout is called when you were a child actor. It's hard. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. True. You're like, yeah, it was much easier to be in the pedophile booth. I don't understand. It was that I just really found my element there to amended youth. But yeah, so that's over. And once again, like, I know this is how the show works, but it's always like, as soon as Miranda sleep with the guy, he's like out with you. Like, it's always one thing and done. It is what they get done. It breaks my heart. It breaks my heart. And it, but it goes either way. It's a ping pong ball. It's either them one and done or her one and done. Yeah. You know, it doesn't take very much to kind of to bail. Yeah. Meanwhile, we cut over to carry, hooking up one more time with Vaughan and being like, let's take it slow. Like, if we need to stop, we can stop. And I do love the way that turn on happens. I know. It's so hot to see. It's so sexy to see you reading my book. Yeah. And then she's like flipping the page. And it's like, it's such good for playing. And he's like, oh, do it again. I'm like, that's really hot. Yeah. And unfortunately, what ensues is not so hot, however. And again, okay, fine, I'm not going to say confusing. I'm going to say complex. Okay. Sometimes I feel like the way Carrie handles situations like these is like deeply insensitive and insult first followed by compliment, right? But in this case, I actually think that she handles it really beautifully where she's like, let's slow down. Like, I'm so flattered that you, you know, had this response to me and feel attracted to me. And like, let's go slow at your own pace. I actually felt like that was really thoughtfully approached. I thought she was being really good. And then to be met with that is like, oh, few. It'd be one thing if she was like, why is this happening again? Yeah. But it wasn't combative. Well, she's there for big. Like, it's so evident that actually there's a character growth. There is. Yeah. Well, he did say it. There I say it. Carrie's so big is so bad to her and see someone. Oh, my God. And girls, he's a doo-doo. And let's just say all of them. And his nickname for her is child. We love to just be called a child. That's a good thing, though. Like Adam was always calling Hannah kiddo and people like being told like good girl yeah, but I am like let's unpack that you can we stop calling our wives, baby? Yeah, yeah, I think kid I'm not gonna talk on my wife, baby. I'll tell you what I'm not doing that. That's your Christian name Pop is my name. I said baby bottle pop the other day and I was like, oh, baby bottle pop But yeah, so Carrie tries to talk to him. She freaks out and so then she's like I have to break up with his family at the cheese break up brunch Oh cream cheese break up lunch. That's right. He's so upset about the cream cheese I didn't know how he's galleying cream cheese though that that doesn't you know just a light psychosis because is there cream cheese at all? There's regular Oh, my god, you're trying to do a savory spread with a regular cream cheese. It doesn't hit the same. Not why are we even doing regular? I know for kids Somebody who just kind of discovered cream cheese in the last few years like this scallion thing is like You have to say everything on the pod You call yourself a New Yorker and you just discovered cream cheese. I've got you've had it You've been having it for years girl. Don't pay this game. I said in the last few years Are you saying you just discovered like smear? Yeah, like I never had bay like bagel culture wasn't a part of my life Or if it was it was butter cinnamon raisin bagel. Oh, that's such a I thought it was quite delicious at the time. Sure. We're also having just like buttered plain pasta and not the long noodles the like I mean, I love who doesn't love a butter pasta. It's a projection on his part and he has a right to be a You think he's in the right for absolutely losing it over the scallion So I'm gonna go carry mix eye contact with the gay ones girlfriend being like we don't belong here Oh my god, don't you love being at someone's like family dinner and there's one other person there that is just like in from down And cuz you and that's your ally that's your Person and oh my god. It's there's one thing I love. It's an entire conversation with eye contact Yeah, I had that at the crosswalk some you know when the subway great Steams some guy it was like film this and he like was standing over the great and then me and the woman were like Okay Life span of a moment together And then we went on our way when it went to walk and that's why I got to move back to New York you got to get back The time-share is gonna happen. I know it time-share's gonna happen Not while driving in L.A. and it did run at the bad news Because everyone's one time I had it my Uber driver was watching ice princess while driving me to the airport That's right. That's right. You did have a brief I used to do that thing. I was on that flex But yeah, so Carrie runs out and the mom runs after her Wallace is like please please can we talk about this? Yeah, I don't even want to get into the irony that he writes short stories, which is she's like I actually can't with this I'm totally really roasting the toasting or something and you're like I wonder why he's self facing you know That is why when she then says sex is not the only thing that a relationship is built upon 77% of marriages are sexless. I was like, well, no Wallace you want a date or so bad date early. Yeah, exactly get off your knees Does that make you think that she's not fucking yeah, for sure Yeah, it feels like the ultimate bait and switch of like here We thought this was the most evolved relationship. And it's like yeah, they were the peace core, but they were maybe Wallace and don't do their core, you know, yeah Wallace and Duncan are fucking I hope I think it's like fun sex and if you're a professor There's so many locations that you can have fun sex in right and they read her sex column and like and they read her Sex call but that's what I'm wondering about it's like are they on an analytical level like they're studying They're like these academics that understand sex but like are they fucking themselves? Well, maybe they're so sex-positive and fucking so much that then the sun is so sex-negative. That's like a leftist becomes. Yeah, the horse should be Wow, they're they're Republicans And then Carrie's like Carrie invents the term chosen family in this moment when she knocks on the window and sees her three friends having lunch and be like Can I join y'all? Oh, and that's what I want to talk about. Why aren't we wearing body-con during the day? Why are we wearing head-there-a-gray body-con in summer during the day 100% and you know why because there'd be ribs I'm like they must have had 17 dresses on set and every take they've got That or she has that thing that people put on their pits that's like, you know, cancer-causing but all over your body Yeah, they're filming in summer in New York. Please forget it. Silver cups. You do it. Calm down, please Thank you Get there, but I love it. Did she know that they were there in the room? She saw them Okay, so my question is the scene is famous for being called Carrie so ghetto for knocking on that glass What? Yeah, that's famous online right now because she just bangs almost restaurant Oh, she bangs on it hard. Yeah, and she's like, hey guys, that's Carrie I'm like by the way, she's the main character lately. It's literally Carrie's world and we're just living in it She's like she everything's a performance. She's like walking down the street and she sees a guy and she's like It takes different things like it's all in It's like glasses fingers like I will bang on a glass. I'll see for and I'm so risk averse and afraid of God forbid one person being mad at me I would like I would like not even touch it. I would just like put my finger. Yeah, I don't think I would but I do at your house But that's different not in a pub would you do it in a public space jump over a trough to get to the window here and I find a way On AC unit your Huckleberry fitting it, but if it was like a diner and you guys are inside I'm probably gonna text you. Yeah, I remember this was yesterday. You know what? I probably would you be like ding dong bang bang the a text Comedy bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang I think that we're on to something which is Social etiquette was surely different back then in terms of getting people's attention because you didn't have the luxury of a cell phone That was that was literally her just doing the exclamation point reaction. Okay. So we were doing real-life emojis Okay, so then I I stand corrected. I think that is a totally reasonable way to get someone sent you care. You're not ghetto girls in non-walkable cities You think about that Why are you ragging on my leg right now girls non-walkable cities? I just think if you're living in a non-walkable city girl You're not gonna bang on a glass because there's no glass of hang on. There's no glass to bang on. It's just an outlet Um, and that's kind of the episode. Oh, thank god I do look at the episode about family ends with like it's just about you and your girls Yeah, and then it made me think about the guy with no friends again. Yeah, and that you're your partner certainly can't be your world No, but time in it a little ruin of her life It would it would ruin every single time my friend involves themselves and a guy who has zero friends and refuses to make any It's most insidious couple and a truly it like they slowly they steal you from everyone It is to have to make a hole which like famously that's not good. It's got to be two holes The way to two holes interacting with each other's holes The way you said I'm my heart actually song yeah, cuz we know yeah, like that does happen to the best girls It does it does no I I think it's a big red flag if you're supposed to supplement an entire concept of friendship, you know also men don't talk about things. No, they really don't talk about with them There's so much shit. I got to talk about not with my partner. Yeah, I could never can't beat that dead horse girl Yeah, oh Good app though. Good app. Okay, so we have an amazing question for you. Hannah Girl, what girl are you? In this episode Purely this episode. I think that I'm Carry in this one. Why in that I really love talking to even since I was a little kid I was like, I don't know I talked to the grown-ups. I was like that annoying kid that's like it's in purple with you know I was the fake kid in 7th heaven I've always really loved people's families and talking to people. Yeah, and I can see myself being in a situation Like that with the guy and trying a couple times. Mm-hmm. And and ultimately walking But I do think the way she is in this episode makes me more of a carry But they're so often that I don't feel like a carry, right, but I don't feel Charlotte in this I don't have like a Wesley Leslie in my life. I mean like I just I'm a new and herred a lot of dead I'm not inheriting a trust unless my parents are just trying to keep me humble And they're like you have so much debt, but it turns out I got a big old truck. They're like we're driving Uber to cosplay Oh, and I would be totally fine if they pressed all the buttons Yeah, and I would never go on to date with someone who has no friends Yeah, and then I guess I'm less like Samantha in that I don't think I'm bold enough to just like bag it like that I aspire to that. Yeah, but I'm not Samantha rising. I love I'm a smit. Honestly 100% 30s are beat for being a Samantha rising. It's hard 20s to be a Samantha rising. I feel like some people are just bored with that and I was not. - Well, she's also, she's like in her 40s. So she, she, maybe wasn't always like that. - She knows what she wants. - Yeah. - That's true. We start with her in her 40s. - Yeah. - Which I feel like is, was a very cool thing at the time to see like, oh, that's aspirational. - No, it's like herodical. - Super empowered woman who like knows what feels good, knows what doesn't, and call shit like it is. - Yeah. - I'm not ready to do that. I'm not even gonna knock on the glass to say I like you guys. So I feel like carrying this one. - Yeah. - Yeah. - What about you, love? - I am Samantha because you never know what you're gonna get with me. (laughing) - You're like an air head mystery. (laughing) - It's pineapple. (laughing) - And you accept apologies if there's muffins involved. - A bit of re-blueberry, that's all I'm saying. - Really? - And you're like, get in here. - Get in here, kiddo. - Do you think she had someone coming to fuck in 10 minutes? 'Cause if so, that was gonna be a quick visit. - Yeah, I know. I don't think so. - I think it was Charlotte. Please, with that butt slap. - That's true. They were gonna do some hand stuff. - Okay, we're gonna do some hand stuff. - Maybe a little tweak, tweak. - Yeah. - Girl, what girl are you? - I'm of course a carry. I'm addicted to letting a family adopt me. - Yeah, that truck's-- - I mean, I know Evan's entire family and extended family. - And it's like, they're the first, they're the first to wish me happy birthday. - And even Evan, two days later, it's like, oh, hey. - You're the birthday? (laughing) - You do? - You told me that. - I actually feel like it's acceptable to forget your best friend's birthday because you show up every other day of the year. - Yeah. - It's your acquaintance says where you're like, hey, tick-tock, this is your one time to show up. - I mean, this is your fucking opportunity to be loved by all of them. - Where are you from? - From 201 Improv. - Like, I'm stuck looking at you. - But you can't wish it back. - Yes. - 'Cause I didn't give that back. - No, you gave that back. - You gave that back. - Oh, okay, our last segment. Where are we getting carried away with? - Oh. - Well, don't be a bitch. - I'm not being a bitch, I'm just being myself. - Okay, so this is pretty easy for me, honestly. - What are you getting carried away with that? - So in this episode, Carrie can't stop talking about how Vaughn's mother has a Oscar nomination for a short documentary. - Documentary short? - Sure. - There was a girl in my college who got nominated when she was 20 for the same award 'cause her parents worked in LA and her whole fine group. - She was 20, got nominated for an Oscar? - Yeah. - Jesus Christ. - Taylor Swift's pissed. - Yeah, talk about the listicles she was on. - Really? - And that moment, I've never felt, I was like, since that moment, I feel like an under-retever, like I'm always trying to catch up to her. - Well, yeah, at that point, you're like, I'll never be decoded fanning. - I'll never be done fanning. - Yeah. - And blew up my college is like Yikek account. - Yikek. - Yikek. - Yikek. - Yikek. - I didn't go to college, so I don't know what a Yikek is. - It was an app for you to speak anonymously about people in a cruel way. - Oh my god, it was a burn book app. - It's a burn book app. - Wow. - So you were just like, I'm so fucking mad about this talk about human rights. (laughing) - It was called period, and it showed every single period in every country. - Oh, it was about periods. - It was about a period. - Oh, but it was I see. - It was also called period. - Well, where? - I mean, look, it's giving nominations. - Yeah. - Wow. - Giving nominations. - Did she win? - Yeah. - Whoa. - So she's in an nominee, yeah. - I understand that. - She's an Oscar winner. - She wrote it back to Louisiana, you know? - Meanwhile, you're like, I got a ribbon. I won the presidential field of physical fitness war. - I wanna trivia the local bar. (laughing) - I don't have that one. I'm gonna say yeah, nah. - What am I getting carried away with this week? I have to say, astrology, tiktokers are ruining my fucking life. I've consumed over an hour of it, and they have such a spectacular way of saying so many words, and saying absolutely fucking nothing. I listened to a one hour podcast about today's full moon yesterday, and the woman just said these are in conjunction. It was conjunction, junction was your function. For an hour. - Conjunction was literally that, and it's like-- - So jazzy, by the way. - No, it's like, that's cool. - That's what I'm talking about, bro. - Maybe it's beacon and conjunction junction. - More of that. - But I just wanna say, like, I've spent so many years thinking that astrology was awesome and that they're all really smart. I know a lot of stuff, and today I'm fed up, and I'm like, "You know what, fuck you with astrologers." - I feel that. - I feel that. - I'm actually sick to death of someone telling me to download co-star, because I keep deleting it and forgetting what time I was born, and then I have to, like, you know what I'm gonna say to you again. - It's like, re-look up my birth certificate, and someone being like, "Oh, you and your partner are not compatible." - Yeah, okay, well-- - I'm like, "Okay, well, it's a little late." - It's a little late. - It's a little, it's been eight and half year. - So the jig is up. - Did it affect her you into that? You know, right? - And I'm also like, are we factoring in therapy? - S-S-R-I's friends that call shit out, you know. - Do the stars know about S-S-S-R-I's? - Or do they know about nurture? - Yeah. - Yeah. - Adult nurture. - They only know about nature. - They only know about nature in the stars. - You're like, it's actually really specific, me and Greg. - I'm like, I'm gonna actually like, archive me. - Yeah. - Because like, I get it's like cancer areas, but like, you're rising, and it's actually the most important thing. - Yeah. - I don't know a lot about it. Astrology. - All I know is that it's not gonna work out for you, too. - I'm like, it's written in the stars. - Sorry. - Nature says. - What are you getting carried away with this week? - Okay, I'm getting carried away with the concept of getting your nails done. Because it is an entire, like, the amount of time there are people that are doing it and people that aren't. I go like once a year with my crusty ass feet and hands. I wanted to zoom in on the hands and feet in Sex and the City. I'm like, we're not talking about that. Are there nails done? 'Cause I feel like one of them would do nail art. I feel like Samantha would. You'd see, like, a gorgeous, clean French manicure on Charlie. - Charlie, oh yeah. - But I feel like that. And maybe, as an attention to detail, that's missed. Because they're all wearing these open-toed heels all the time. And I feel like, why are we never seeing their, like, self-care days? - I'm curious about it. - I just do get to see them with their nails done. 'Cause they do get to serve an episode. They are all getting their nails done. - Okay. - All right. - They're going. - But I do agree with you. We need more nail shots. - And it's making me think of myself that I'm like, oh my God, I'm not that person. And there are so many people, are you? Are you going? - I go every three weeks. - So exactly, right? And I go twice a year with, like, despicable feet. - You're a clothing girl. Some girls are, like, true nails. - I'm clothes. - Yes. - So I don't own a single shirt. - Well, that's, okay. This is, I'm getting carried away by the fact that there's clothes people, there's nails people. And then there's just, like, I don't wear lipstick. I just have tinted moisturizer. And yet, I'm dewy and sun-swept all the time. - Well, there's a tear decorator, too. And then there's people to work with their hands. - Yeah. - Yeah. - They turn for a torture. - Well, yeah, there's the whole thing where it's, like, the jobs where you can't have the nails, like, nurses. - Right, nurses would love to get their nails done. - Nurses would love to get their nails done. - Like, who? - What are the jobs where you can have nails this long with jewels on them? - Marketing. - Yeah. - Can you go through? - Oh, like, post. - I'll never know that what it's like the ASMR of, like, clink, clink, clink, clink, clink, always have nubs. - I know. - Because I'm anxiety. - They always, like, want to meet it, keep them long. And I'm like, you got to actually trim them to the ball. - So you don't bite them. - No. - So this is another thing. It just is so telling about the person. - Right, you're, like, we're missing an entire layer of storytelling in the show. - In the show. And then in real life, I feel like it's a thing that I'm gonna clock much more often because it gives you so much subtext about a person. And on the show, I would, it's an attention to detail. Like, when I was on Leigh Ann, they'd slap on some black lipstick. Some black nail polish should be like-- - Oh, because she's complicated. - And it's multi, so you didn't need to be, like, you know, precise about it. But on a show like that, I feel, I feel like I want to see more nail backstory. - I mean, this was a conversation with Bridgerton because everyone in Bridgerton's world has gel manicures and they're like-- - That's so funny. - Well, let's get in. - Don't you dare. - Oh, and hamnet, they have gorgeous teeth that they took one Sharpie and one highlighter and put yellow on two teeth. And I'm like, oh, it's period now. (laughing) Period, the Oscar-winning documentary short that I'll never forget. (laughing) - It's really formative for me. - Yeah. - To you too. - Well, thank you guys so much for listening to this episode that girl we watched. - Thanks for having us. - And I want people to find you. - Guys, thanks for having me. Oh, you can find me online at Hannah Pilkiss. Thank you for saying my last name correctly. I feel like a lot of people think it's Pilkiss. - Esther taught me. - Esther taught you. And Esther's always teaching. - She is. - She is. - She is. - Every time I see her, I'm like, can I nestle on your bosom? And you just, like, tell me warm stories. And she's like, oh, she's like a warm mug. - She is. - She is very fireside chat that girl. - Absolutely. - And man, the best laugh of all time. - It's so good. - Last yesterday we went to the movie together. And I was like, I think this movie's so so funny. You know, the movie and just being next to Esther laughing, I was like, mm, yeah. But yeah, you can find me there. Netflix is Leanne, yeah. - Is there a season of Lena? - It's more gonna see if we get picked up. We're waiting to hear. - Oh, definitely well. - And then I'm working on a new hour. But yeah, that's what you can find yourself in. - Amazing. - You can find me in New York, 'cause I'm obviously relocating. - Right.
