This episode of the podcast features hosts Jake and Cassidy engaging in lively, unfiltered conversation before welcoming actor Adam Scott. The opening segment is filled with playful banter about buzzing Jake's hair, getting tattoos, and a humorous misunderstanding where Jake briefly convinces Cassidy that a "severance procedure" is a real medical practice, only to reveal it’s tied to Adam Scott’s show. Cassidy then recounts a stressful travel ordeal involving lost luggage with Frontier Airlines, detailing a delayed flight and unhelpful customer service, which she resolved after a week of persistence.
The main interview with Adam Scott explores his career trajectory, from early roles to the cult success of *Party Down* and the critical acclaim of *Severance*. He shares insights into filming complex scenes, the importance of authenticity in his work, and his lifelong struggle with self-perception, rooted in childhood weight issues. Adam also opens up about his long marriage, meeting his wife in 1998, and his daughter Frankie, who joins the conversation. The episode concludes with a fun advice segment where the trio answers listener questions about relationships, friendships, and roommate conflicts, offering blunt and humorous advice. Throughout, the tone is casual and intimate, blending celebrity interview with personal anecdotes and relatable humor.
[MUSIC] Jake, your buzz looks amazing. >> Oh, yeah. >> Let's start there. >> Let's start with my buzz. I buzzed my hair and now I want a thigh tattoo. >> Well, I told Jake, when he gets his hair buzzed, he has to get a thigh tattoo. I think a tattoo and a buzz is just like a hot comment. >> Do you think we have time to go today before my-- >> Yes, because I also want one. >> And it's 130 PM. >> How long does it take, 20 minutes? >> And then how long can you not expose it to son for? >> I mean, it doesn't matter. I expose mine to son like-- >> If it's on your thigh, it won't be in the sun, I don't think. >> Also, I want to dye Jake's hair lighter. >> I do too. >> So which one, pick one today? Lighter? >> I would love to dye her hair today. >> But I don't want it to be bleached. >> I honestly think bleached buzzes are the hottest thing a guy can have. But, okay, but for you, I would start just like one shading, not pink. >> I would love to do his hair pink, but I'm going to do my hair pink. >> But you have to bleach it first and then do it. >> That's exactly. >> If you just do it today, I'm done. >> I would do anything, so. >> Do you think that would do lighter, don't do pink? >> I think you should start with lighter, and then we can play around with it and do pink. >> But before I get my tattoo, I want to do the severance procedure. >> Sorry. >> Yeah. >> What's that? It's when they, it's like, you know how people do like ketamine therapy? >> Okay. >> It's like when they put like a little electrons on your brain. And for like the next hour, like you, like it severs your like frontal lobe. And you don't feel like you don't remember, like you become another person for that hour. Like your brain. >> So you don't feel the pain to the pain? Like people do it on childbirth. >> You're not, tattoos are not even bad. I have literally 18. And like minor, tiny, just that's probably why it's nice sometimes. Like people do it for childbirth, like people get severed for childbirth. >> I need to do that for childbirth, for sure. >> Yeah. >> Terrified of having baby. >> But we're adopting baby. >> We'll be fine. We'll adopt one. I would like to bird the other. >> But you know. >> It's very important. >> But you can get severed for that. >> And I'd like you to be in the room. >> Absolutely. >> Holding my hands. >> You've never heard of the severance procedure? >> No. >> Ever. >> I'll say you don't need that for a tattoo. Like it's easy, it like does not hurt. >> I hate needles, but I. >> Well, you don't need those. They just put a little chip right here. >> Jake, that's like more pain than getting a tattoo. >> No, but it doesn't hurt. >> And you sever, like people do it for work sometimes. Like people like, it's like if you're like handling like high government intel. You go in that, like you go to work and you get severed for the day. So you're like, they'll call it like they're, like you like right now we would be outies. And then you're any would be your severed version. >> What the actual fuck are you talking about? And also you don't need this to get a fucking tattoo. >> Look it up, severance procedure. I'm not, I'm like not today. >> You're like, it's all over TikTok. >> You guys, I hate both of you. >> So tonight we have on Adam Scott, who starts in the hit show. >> Why do you see that? >> Severance on every time. >> You do this to me every time. How are you always in on it? >> I don't know, I just really. >> You thought that was real? >> Well, at first, then you started talking about a chip in your head. >> I don't know what the fuck. >> Babe. >> I missed you. >> Babe. >> We've had a lot of changes in our lives. >> We've had a lot of changes. >> I buzzed my hair. I just went to Germany. >> Yeah, how was Ducel Dwarf? >> It was fun. >> In your castle? >> Yeah, I was in a castle. I didn't sleep, I couldn't sleep there. >> Right. >> In the factory? >> I was in the factory. I was in the factory making sure Sourpuss got made, hung out with a lot of Germans. >> How was that? >> Awesome, they're very lovely. >> Wow. >> My Schmetterling. >> You know, you know I'm German. >> Really? >> Yeah, actually, but I don't know what percent. >> Nine. >> Right there. >> I have other things to say. I get a text from Will yesterday saying he found a pastor for me. He really thinks I need church. >> You burst into flames. >> I would walk in the church and I would actually light on fire. >> Actually, as of late, you've been-- >> As of late, I've been great. >> Cassidy is low key one of the most emotionally intelligent people I've ever met in my entire life. >> Slutdown, I know. >> But yeah, that's true. I will give myself that. >> It's because you've analyzed things very hard. >> I do, I'm an observer also. Like I can watch a room and I won't speak, but I'll observe everyone's behavior and I'll just think about it, but I will never say anything. >> You do say something every time. >> Every time. >> Yeah, so I do say something, actually. And it's always about you. >> You always start a fight when you're drunk. >> Only it's you. >> Yeah, I hate when you're drunk. >> Actually, you started a fight with me. Will Scottie, you fight with me the other day. >> No, yes, you did. >> You did get a fight. >> I'm the one to start fights. Both of you do the same thing. >> No, no, don't. >> Why would I ever want to fight on a night out? >> You walk up to me and do it. >> You always? >> Why did I do that? >> First time I see you said, hi. >> Yeah, but he got so angry at me. >> I heard about this, babe. I'm so sorry. >> You did? >> I did. >> I did, from what little birdie? >> Jake. >> He called me and I am very anxious. >> Oh, yeah. What are you gonna be for Halloween? >> I don't know, I haven't thought about it, but I do love Halloween. >> What were you lost to? >> Like I love being able to dress like slutty, even though I dress slutty every day. Like it's the one holiday you're allowed to like be naked. >> What were you lost here? >> Okay, something's wrong. >> I don't remember what we lost here. >> I'm like you're not able to think right now. >> What were we lost here? >> I just got on the flight. >> I told you that, but Jake made me film right when I got to his house. I got off the flight, maybe what, 40 minutes ago? >> And they didn't let you off the plane. >> They didn't let us board. >> You have terrible luck with planes. You have terrible luck with planes. >> Cass. >> Cass got off, Cass has lost her bag no 20s. >> I don't know what the fuck is in the air with my luggage. But I just got back from Europe, and I literally was sitting there with Sally, Peyton and Julia, and I was like making a joke, like imagine our luggage doesn't come back. And I'm like, I have a really weird feeling, my luggage isn't coming out. And I'm like standing there, and I checked mine in with Peyton. And Peyton's comes down, and I was like, that's weird. I put mine right behind her, and that made me super nervous, and I was like, no, there's no way like this can't happen to me again. It just happened to me in January. And all of a sudden, Julia's comes, Sally's comes, and I'm like, no, no, no, there's no fucking way. My, the luggage thing, stops, there are two people left with no luggage. I look at them, and I go, your luggage isn't here. >> And I'm not kidding, I actually was like, there is no actual way. Yeah, my luggage was on the next flight, because it was 23 pounds overweight. Another issue. >> Have we spoken about it on here when she lost her luggage with Frontier or now? She lost her luggage with Frontier, and she went up to the Frontier worker, and she says where I need help, my luggage has gone, and she saw them googling on their computer. >> What to do when someone's looking at your boss? >> Let me actually go back to this story, and then I'll stop talking for a little. But it was me, Peyton and Sally, I feel like I'm talking the whole time. >> I don't care, I'm listening, I'm listening. >> Me, Peyton and Sally chose to fly Frontier Airlines. And I don't know why the fuck we did that. My mom was like, that was your first mistake, which like, yeah. We literally were like, we're not paying over this amount of money to fly to Miami, whatever. So we chose the cheapest airline, and we get off the flight. Well, first of all, your flight was delayed until 2.30 AM. >> No, this isn't even a possibility, like there's no red eyes going for Miami to New York. And all of a sudden, we get a notification our flight is moved to 2.50 AM, like, is that a thing? >> Well, the latest flights out are the ones that normally get moved in. >> But that's smack ass in the middle of the night. >> [LAUGH] >> It was insane. Anyway, my luggage did not make it, and I went to the person and she's googling what to do. When someone's luggage is lost, and I go, ma'am, if you, I go, do you work here? And she's like, mm-hmm. [LAUGH] >> See, are you helping me get my luggage and I'm really confused. She has a Frontier Airlines battery, so I'm thinking of myself, because by the way, I ended up helping every other person who lost my luggage. There's a line behind me, and I'm looking on my phone, chat me, be team, what the fuck you do. I'm calling Frontier Airlines customer services, girls supposed to be working there. And she's typing on the keyboard, has no idea what she's fucking doing, by the way. Like, it was a shit show, I got it back a week later, cuz I moved my ass every night. >> No, she went to JFK every night, for one week, and guess where my luggage was. >> In a cage. >> In a cage, the worst part is that the Thursday before I got it, I got it on Friday afternoon. Thursday, they open the door and they go, that your luggage, I go, right there, think of like, holy fuck, all my shit's in there, they go, mm, you can't get it. He goes, I don't have the key, I even think you don't have the key, he was open the door. So anyway, I had to go back on Friday and get it, it was gnarly, that was a really dark period. >> Okay, god. >> Hey, am I styling my buzz correctly? >> Yeah, I love it. >> Okay, so can I tell you one thing that I just want to tell you, I want to shave the top a little more. - No, I kind of like the link like that. - Really?
It's kind of for the first go round though. So should we get tattoos today? I'm down to get a tattoo Your wife banana. Yeah, I mean what I tell is like what? Oh, I like it. I like it the banana peel not the banana Yeah, the peel the peel the peel the peel the peel the peel the peel. Yes, I would pay to get a matching tattoo with you But I know you're not going down. You can get a banana peel. I don't know if that's fitting for me So banana peel on my arm. No, it doesn't really matters. I don't I got a skull on my ankle and will I'd like a heart to talk about it He said, please don't do it. Please don't do it. You know what? I was proved wrong. It looks great. What does this call mean to you? I just I don't know that's the worst part. I was in a weird era. You know when it was I mean the beginning of the year You've had so many different hairstyles We are not talking about the one I just said that was so mean that both of you Both of you were in Miami with me and let me go out like that. Wait, did you see my get up? Did you see my get up? Well, I cropped leather jacket at a mop on his head. I had a silver metallic leather Silver metallic leather jacket on in a mullet and my hair and my my hair was literally Mind you I posted that I posted it. He posted it and I'm in the mirror like this And he literally next to me thinking like cropped leather jacket. Did you guys miss me or what? A lot beyond Tonight on therapist. We have Adam Scott the star of severance on Apple TV Which is one of the best shows on television. He is also the star of the new Netflix movie The Whisper Man out August 28th Which I got to see and it is amazing Enjoy the episode. I love you puppies My daughter says Please tell him I think he's the voice of our generation. No, what and that I watch him every day Stop it What's your daughter's name tell her to come here. I Did I just come here. I just told her to come here. Thank you for saying that about me. That is so kind She left archer. She's in Beverly Hills. Oh, you're in Beverly Hills now. Yeah, she didn't drive today because she She wasn't feeling well this morning, so she got you know, I just got over a cold. You did. Yeah I have not been sick in I I have to admit I fell asleep in the car on the way here, but I haven't been I haven't been sick in like two years Are you like you don't drink smoke nothing? I don't drink Why you look so young. It's poison Alcohol is poison. I stopped drinking like 12 years ago and it wasn't like a thing. I was never a big drinker. I just kind of faded it out Well, welcome to therapist. Thank you. Thanks for being here. Thanks for having me Jay. I'm such a fan I'm a fan of yours as well. Are you really I am I Thought you were terrific in the movie and I've of course had seen you do things before then, but my daughter is as you know a huge fan of yours Stepbrothers was like my first like big it wasn't my first big thing, but it was like The first big thing that ended up mattering Do you know what I mean? Like you can do you know how like if you're in showbiz for a while There there's so many things that happen where you're like, oh, this is gonna be the thing and then it's it's not and It's just kind of no one cares and you're like, oh, maybe this is gonna be the thing and then it's not and it just kind of goes and no one cares Stepbrothers was the first thing that sort of like actually helped coalesce a career together Did you think party down what's gonna be that thing? I never thought party down was gonna be anything Which is part of why it was so fun is that none of us thought anyone would ever see it like because we were on stars at a time when they weren't really making TV shows and Like and then it started airing no one was watching it, but We were having so much fun doing it and we had kind of a chip on our shoulder like our shows awesome and no one no one's watching it But who gives a shit and we were just having such a blast and loved each other so much that it was like Who cares like that's why it's awesome is because while we were making it we weren't making it for To for a career advancement at all we were making it because we thought it was great Yeah, and so that sort of lives inside of it and then eventually it did catch on way more than any of us ever thought It would when did it catch on did it go on streaming on Netflix? It was on Netflix. I think it started catching on after it was canceled right like a couple of years after like I Remember like a year after it was canceled. We started talking about doing a movie So he did sort of caught on by then, but when it was actually on The the final episode got 13,000 viewers like no one was watching Thousand viewers Yeah, that's that's low. That's a whoa. That's low. Yeah, wow. I know it's not crazy. It's become a cult classic. Yeah, yeah Did you expect Severance at all to take off the way it did? No, I mean, we certainly hoped that people would be into it But we also kind of thought it was maybe too weird and Didn't really know and cuz you I mean by that point I'd been doing it long enough that I knew that you never know if anything's gonna be popular whatever So I always just assume Either everyone's gonna hate it or it's gonna be do nothing and no people just shrug So we really didn't know But we're pleased to that that people did I mean I watched that in college you did. Yeah, I was like day one the finale came out Yeah And my roommate best friend Brice that you need to watch this right now Yeah, cuz that's the best finale in television. Oh, cool. She's alive. Yeah, yeah, iconic. Oh good. I'm so glad. Thanks. Okay, so in season two Yeah, when you go back and was it the finale or the penultimate episode that you go back and forth as the severed version of yourself and kept record that was in the finale Yeah, yeah, yeah, what was that like to film? It was hard because I'm just always afraid of things being shitty, you know, like I just want things to be great and so When it's something like that, it's like this has such a such a high bar like in order for this to work It has to be really good because If it's an eighth of an inch off in one direction or the other it's gonna be corny And/or stupid It's kind of the whole show is like The whole the whole like idea and the whole world and the tone is something that is so hyper specific That if you're just a little off in one direction or the other the whole thing kind of falls apart, right? Which is which is part of what makes it special and part of what makes it so much Fun and so challenging to make is that it's a small small target and so that scene is One of those where I just thought like we really have to Get this right and that all started with the Writing because it's a really hard thing to write properly And this guy's did an incredible job, but shooting it was Was Challenging because I shot all of it in my apartment, you know Just with my phone just so I would have something on set to To work up and rehearse it Got it. Yeah, and and and I just wanted needed something to because I had that camera and so I was talking into a camera So I needed something on the screen to talk to so I shot both Side of my apartment. There you go. They're proactive and And then as we went we were recording as we were shooting because I'm talking into a camera And so we started being able to use that it was just a matter of like I what I Okay Here's here's hopefully a succinct way of saying it. It's not boring The thing that I really wanted is for the novelty of it the novelty of this being the same actor I wanted that to Wear office quickly as possible and for it to just be a scene where two people are talking. Oh wow Yeah, you know exactly you wanted it to feel like two completely different people It's just it was important that It's these two different Characters that the audience has grown accustomed to seeing and knew exactly where each one was at emotionally and what they needed from the other And I just wanted the conversation to occur without it being like oh look. It's the same guy Right, you know what I mean because that's that's not that interesting at the end of the day So we just wanted the story to be interesting and the characters to be it I don't know it was kind of boring. I wanted them to each have their own autonomy. Yeah Yeah, and and Ben still are directed the episode was Was great um and he and Jeff who edited did a great job too. Do you know Trudy? Oh, yeah, of course
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, let's call it together. Really? Yeah. Oh, I just filmed her short is she an actor? No, she's a director. Oh good for her. Yeah, it's great. Oh, so she directed it. Mm-hmm. That's awesome. Yeah, she's amazing Yeah, but she was like I remember when we all found out she was working on separate three were so excited at school Where did you guys go to school? USC? We went to USC film school. No, I went to PR school. She went to be our school She went to film school. No wonder it's all working for you. You went to PR school So you're you are able to sort of harness people's attention in an interesting way Yeah, but I never really learned anything So that on all my tests like we learned about the history PR. I barely remember that Well, that's not gonna help you exactly. That's my point. So I asked my name lesson it's more about Who you are and how you Put it out into the world and how much of yourself you're willing to share is that was that ever a thing for you? Where you're like how much of my life do I want to share? I don't feel like my success started to actually stick until I Was able to really kind of face up to really sharing Myself with the camera. Do you know what I mean? Like if you have walls up because you're like protecting yourself or you're afraid of showing too much of yourself for vein or embarrassed or whatever that's gonna show on camera and it wasn't until I was able to just sort of Open up and share Whatever was happening with the camera. That's when things started landing a little bit Does that make sense? That makes complete sense. Do you feel like there's a role that you like really did that and like that you were able to open up And notice that yeah party down. It's a great show. We watched that in reference to because we were Writing we're writing the pilot for I in development with Hulu now. We like reference party down a lot. Yeah, that's cool So you're aware of like public perception and image and have been Yeah, I was very very aware of it too far probably too much, but every high school kid is I was I'm always aware Yeah, that's because my parents were super aware of like yeah, there's like how like they were like who's like talk Like you know, where do you think you got that from? I mean I was always very very into how I was presenting myself and planned my Outfits specifically even if they looked totally like nothing it was all very deliberate Were you like that in high school like I wouldn't plan my outfits But I in high school I was and today and didn't call it so forever. I Care what like people think of me and how I'm perceived and like you so yes I mean, I think for me it's start because in middle school I was heavy and You become or I became very very self-conscious and so when that happened Rather than becoming the like You know Outcast at the back of the classroom. I decided to lean into it And I like it was the year pretty and pink came out. So I dressed exactly like ducky I wore like big blazers and bull otis and and Pagged my pants and And like wore like you know, just like dressed exactly like him and kind of tried to like start this whole persona so I could be like the The sidekick to the yeah girl. That's how I felt too Well, that's how I felt too. I was Have your set when I was in like fifth and sixth grade. Yeah, and then I lost a bunch of weight at the end of sixth grade But I think it like shaped Who I was yeah, because I wanted to I just remember being like I don't know if you felt this way, but I was like if I'm gonna be in this room like I'm gonna make you laugh Yes, and that that's what will be my gift to this room It won't be how I look and won't be what I wear You'll be my ability to make you laugh at me. That's right. Yeah, that's right And that actually hurts too. Yeah, right? I mean You don't realize how much it hurts. Yeah, so one day you're like wait that hurt. Yeah, till you're out of that phase and looking back and like whoa Yeah, um, I think I'm like in that phase right now, so I'm very self-deprecating Yeah, me too to a fault and and I and I my wife is always telling me like Stop saying that it's a fluke that you Have a career you say that all the time All the time. Do you say it so much that you end up believing it? Well, what I say it about is stepbrothers because getting that job Someone had the job before me and and had to bail because of schedule and so they had to cast the role Quickly and so whenever I say that because I'm asked about that movie all the time So whenever I say like well, it's kind of a fluke that I got the role Naomi my wife is just like you have to like what do you do like stop it like right but I feel like it's I have to but I think But I think those years of being heavy particularly in Late elementary and middle school. It was so formative and so kind of I still feel exactly like that and I feel like that's where Like if that didn't happen to me I wonder what kind of person I would be if those years didn't happen to me because it was so It's so shaped to me right because it's so humiliating the way people treated me. Yeah, wow Yeah, no that about you. I mean, I wasn't like I mean, you know it happens to I mean it's a part part of puberty for a lot of kids. It's you know, I'm sure that's exactly what happened to you. Yeah, I know I stopped eating lunch You did yeah, well, I certainly For my 20s was like very Like watching what I ate like a hawk is it the ultimate nightmares to go right back there. I went back there You did yeah post-grad first year post-grad. I started making my own money. Were you in graduate school? No, so I it was after I graduated USC. Yeah, it was a year after Yeah, so when I started doing like this ish full-time and I started making my own money so I could start I started postponing a lot. Have you ever had mr. Chow's? It was in that same breath that I also somehow discovered that Moses and Jesus were not the same person. Not the same person. No. In my defense, I thought like Jesus was a nickname for Moses. That's weird because a nickname usually doesn't take as long to say as but they're the exact same number of syllables, you know. Uh-huh. Yeah. Did you go to college? I went to theater school. What school did you go to high school? The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. So you went to like a proper theater school? A proper theater school. Like it was like it was like going to like Juilliard or like not even. Um, maybe less prestigious than than Juilliard but same idea. It's like an acting Academy where you're like taking dance and voice and speech and singing and acting and you do that for the Academy was two years and I got straight A's for the first time and I loved it so much. You know, you know, when you go somewhere and you're like, oh my god, all these people are just as into this as I am. Uh-huh. Like I can talk about, you know, movies or actors or whatever with all these people. That's how I feel with my best friends. There's no other people that like to talk shit more than my best friends. Yeah. It's the best. I can't picture you gossiping. You can't picture me gossiping. I'm not a big gossip. Yeah, you're not. You don't see me. No, not that I don't enjoy it but um, I feel guilty if you know, there's too much gossip happening. But I could see you at like a dinner party, someone saying something and then you going, well, that's what I could see you doing. Sure. Sure. Well, and like laughing to yourself and then someone going, Adam, what? Yeah. And you go in, no, no, I can't. I can't. And then you go in, it's just funny. That's the type of gossip. Sure. That's how I'd get you. Sure. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. That's, I can do that. I just feel like, I feel like if it gets, I just feel so badly if I've started feeling gross. If I, if there's too much, if I'm engaging too much in gossip, not to say it's not fun. No, I'm filthy. What's your birthday? April 3rd. Are you in the Areas? Uh-huh. Wow. When's yours? October 27th. Oh, you're a Libra Scorpio. It's what I meant. Uh-huh. Um, what's Naomi? August 10th. Leo. Leo. So she brings no August 10th is, yeah, yeah, it is because my son is, uh, October 7th, my daughter is October 17th. And so they're both Libra. Oh, but she's right on the cusp of Scorpio. That's right. That's right. Oh, wow, October babies. Yep. How'd you and your wife meet? We met at a bar, um, in, uh, in Hollywood called the cat in the fiddle. It's not there anymore, but it's, it was this awesome bar we met in, uh, 1998. I know. I know. Wait. Oh my god. Do you guys have been together like forever? 28 years. You did the math on that. We're really with that. Oh, you're 20. You were born in 1998. I wasn't even born yet. Can I answer this? Sorry. Yeah. Hey, honey. Yeah. Someone's going to come get you. She is so excited. I, I love how I feel like you're a really good person. You've been with you sound shocked. Well, no, it's not that I'm shocked. It's just like, you're like, I feel gross if I talk shit. Yeah, you've been with you really haven't let Holly with Jade. Like, you've not really jaded by it at all. Like, well, I, I couldn't be me. I could not be me. Well, um, so you've been with, you met at the cat in the fiddle, the cat in the fiddle, which was like this bar where there's a whole outdoor area, um, and a big fountain. So you used to smoke everyone just when it was, it went there because you could smoke. And, um, and yeah, I met her there and I was doing a play. So, uh, I was like, I want to meet her and my friend was like, Oh, wait, I know her friend. They were both brits. So we went over to them. They introduced me to her. She's like, nice to meet you. I'm leaving and she left. But then they came to our play that we were doing. That's what happened. They came to our play. We were doing like the next week and then at the party after the play, we talked because it was closing night. Anyway, speaking of boring, when were you born? 1999. I was locked in a year after I met my wife. Uh-huh. What was it like working with goats? It was interesting for like a little while. And then it was just like these animals are here. It was a lot of goats, like a lot of goats. Yeah. They're like eating people's shoelaces and stuff. And so it's like, oh, this is cool. And then after a little while, it's like, all right, we got to just finish this. Finish the goats. Yeah. We'll not like, you know, finish their storyline. Yeah, not like what was their storyline? What was their storyline? I never understood the goats. They're very sweet animals, actually. No, I understand goats. Inseverance. They're, they have white fur usually. Um, you're not alone. A lot of people are still asking about the goats and we're all like, we kind of thought we explained it. I didn't catch that. Yeah. I don't want to explain it because it it'll, I don't want it to be sort of dissected. Okay. I understand what you're saying. Sometimes I got you. Sometimes if I say something about the show, it's no, yeah, everyone's like, this is what this is. Yeah, I got you. My daughter's in the other room. Hey girl. Hey, how is school? Frank, you tried to get out of going to school today. I hated school. Yeah. Do you ever miss driving her school? Did you ever drive her to school? Yeah, I did. I used to drive her to the bus stop. But and then also school when she went to school over there, it was very, when they're in like elementary school, it's very sweet to bring them to school. What music do you remember playing them? In the car, whatever she was wanting to listen to at the time, which was you like, you know, what Taylor Swift is out usually what it was, Frankie. But you are like, like to me, Taylor Swift, I'm like a big Taylor Swift fan. That is you with you too. No? Yeah, but I'm also a big Taylor Taylor Swift fan. I love Taylor Swift. What's your Taylor Swift song? You know what song of ours that I really love? Well, 1989 is a is a big album for Frankie and I because that was like huge and we were super into it together and had like dances for some of those songs that we came up with together. But then I loved the pandemic records. Yeah, those were great. Evermore. Evermore's my favorite. Yeah, I mean, holy shit. Evermore's my favorite, Marjorie's my favorite song on that. I've Marjorie and Tis the Dams season. I love invisible string. Yeah, I mean talk about classic. Well, you know the long ponds. The long ponds sessions. Those are my favorites. Oh, really? You love the little Disney plus special. I love the Disney plus special, but I also love the that version of all of those songs. Oh, yeah. She does exile with Bonny Verr. Yeah, over zoom. Yeah. But also she's just playing all of she and Aaron Dresner and and he's there for that one song. But it's just the two of them playing the entire album. Yeah, with that there's no production, nothing. They're just playing it live. And you know, that's all available just in I love that. I love the kind of fully baked version of the album as well. But I love those raw kind of live versions of those songs too. I love when a live version is like released on Spotify. Bonny Verr just released a whole record of live tracks. Oh, really? Yeah, he did. He's amazing, amazing. Oh, mostly what? I think he was a lot of 22 to 22 million. Oh, I forget if that's that what the album called what's the last album? No, stable. I wish that last album was real good. That album changed my life. Yeah. That little tune change in short story. Yeah. Where the whole album switched and lifts upwards. It's unbelievable. But he's not touring it. Oh, oh, really? Yeah, he's like, I don't need to. You know what speaking of live like raw versions is lady Gaga did Howard Stern like 15 years ago or something or whenever what album was edge of glory on born this way born this way when born this way came out which was like a while ago she went on Howard Stern and played edge of glory.
or he just heard in a piano. - She's so talented. - Have you heard that version? - It like will make you cry, just listening to her sing, because that song is about, believe her grandfather. - It is about her grandfather. - That song is, I mean, you know, the song is terrific, but when it's down to it's kind of raw elements like that. It's so powerful. Whenever she goes and plays kind of just her, I think it's incredible. Anyway. - Yeah, I love like a stripped back acoustic version of a song. I mean, we used to, or there used to be, what was it, MTV Unplugged. They kind of have versions of that today. They have like this new show called "Colors", but I don't know if that equates to it. - There's tiny desks. - Tiny desks, sort of like that. - Tiny desks is great. BBC Live Lounge is my favorite, because the artists will cover other songs. So like, I don't know if you know who Audrey Hobert is, but Malcolm Todd, her younger brother who's also a singer, just covered one of her songs, Taylor Swift. Oh my God, did she do, she did September, right? Did she not do September? Yes, she did, 20 first night. Yeah, that was at the Live Lounge. I would put money on it, actually. - That the new album was awesome. And I love, love her too. - The archer is my favorite song of all time. - Yeah. And, reputation too. - Wait, you're a Swiftie. - Well, I know, yeah, yeah, I mean. - No, you just bar for bar for her albums, like you're a Swiftie. - They're great records, yeah. - Did you see my shrine? Oh, you haven't seen my shrine? - No. - I was riding in the house. - Have you discovered Waxa Hatchie? Are you into her? - Why? - Are you about to say, "Good Zoom, tight"? - Yeah, Waxa Hatchie. - Yeah, Waxa Hatchie, you have to listen to Waxa Hatchie. She's the best. - You know who I think is. Oh, well, do you listen to country at all? - Yeah. - Casey, are you Casey? - Musgrave? - Yeah. - I don't know. I don't know her, I mean, I think she's great, but I don't know her, I don't know her that well. - You're not ready. - No, you're actually not ready. - I'm not ready. - Because her album, Golden Hour from 2018. - Oh, okay. That's the like, good break out. That's the big break out. - Yeah. - No, the big break out was same trailer different park. And that really broke-- - Oh wait. - She just put out a record. - Yes, how is that one? - Really good. It's called "Middle of No Wear". People describe it as like brat for country. - See, if you like Casey Musgraves, you're gonna love Waxa Hatchie. - Okay, I'll listen to Waxa Hatchie. - Listen, start with her new record. - Okay. - Called "Tiger's Blood". - Okay, and just go backwards from there. - Did it like, what's the genre? Foki, Bedroom Pop, Country. - Country rock slash. I don't know, she's sort of, she kind of encompasses a lot. She does, but "Tiger's Blood" has a lot of like, really good. It's like a real guitar record, but not like shredding solos. It's just really like lived in guitar rock some of it. And then some of it is just, it's just really, really, it feels like an album that's been there for a hundred years. But, and all the hooks and melodies all feel like something that's always been playing, but it's all brand new. It's really, really. I think one of the great records of the last while. - Oh, wow. - I mean, it came out like a year, two years ago. - Wax Hatchie. - And I'm still like going back to it. - Yeah, yeah, it's great. - Yeah, oh, wait, I'm so excited to listen to it. - Yeah, tell me what you think if you listen to it. - I will, but you have to listen to it. - Okay, she must grave. - Golden Hour. - The 2018 album. - It is brilliant. - And why? - She wrote the entire album about her ex-husband, and it is like the entire album is like front to back, like a love letter. It feels like a love letter to him. And just like, she is very into attachment styles and she used to be, I think she would tell you she was in an important attachment. - You know what attachment? - Okay, so the album starts with a song called Slow Burn. And it's kind of like she's rapping, but it's country. - Okay. - Slow burn is amazing. Space cowboys the best. - Okay. - Rainbows, beautiful butterflies. - You know, it's hard because when I was trying to describe the wax at you album to you, it's hard to just talk about music and why something is great. You, I always end up feeling lame when I'm trying to talk like to something to someone. - Yeah, I just feel like, I'm like, how do I describe how good this is? - Yeah, I know. - Because then you wanna sing it. You're like, I'm not about to sing it. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But she's new. - Do you know how to sing? - No, do you? She has some slammer lines though. - Okay. - Like slammer. Yeah, have you been listening to Aloe Langley? Choose in Texas. Banger. - Okay. - You guys listening to Choose in Texas? - What? - Oh, you like? I told you I can't. I told you, I'm a candy guy. - I heard. So you're going to like a candy convention. - Sweet and sacks. - When you're there, it's gonna be like a whole event. - It's gonna be just like, we're gonna be, we have sweatshirts made, let's say. - Is that what all those sweatshirts are out there? - I know, but those are for you. - All of them? - Uh-huh. - Thanks. - You could take all of them. - What if I did? What if I did? - I would say Adam Scott took all of my honey isle. - Do you want to do the tummy what's wrongs? - Oh great. - And I feel like you give good advice. - We'll see. - We will. - I mean, I am a dad, it's part of my job. - What do you love giving advice as a father? - I mean, it depends. It depends what the issue is, I guess. What's the most mad you've ever been at your kids? - I remember when Frankie was like 11, she was like 11 and we discovered that she had more than one secret social media, she wasn't allowed to have social media. - Oh. - And she had like an entire network of social media. Yeah. She had it going. - Yeah. - And it wasn't Instagram yet, it was. - Facebook. - Musically. - I feel old, I never even had a musically. - Really? - It was never my thing. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Do you know what musically is? - I think I remember what it was, yeah. - It's like videos of like, yes. - And then everyone's like lip syncing to things. - There's a very famous now video of Baby Ariel. And she was a very famous musically star. And she did musically dance to Fya when the strobe hits you. - Yeah. - And she was on the news and she would go, you go. - Okay. - So that's what she was like. - Yeah, that's the sort of thing. - Do you remember Baby Ariel? Your daughter is fucking funny. (laughing) - Were you like 11 when that happened, Frankie? - Okay, great. - Oh, yeah. You know, the reason people call me Jake Shane is because when I first made my Facebook when I was in seventh grade, my mom wouldn't let me use my last name, which is Rochko. - Rochko, Jake Rochko. - Yeah, were you about to ask if I'm Jewish, 'cause the answer is yes, very much so. And my middle name is Shane after, and my dad would tell me he was after some like alcoholic baseball player, I don't really know. And so my mom made me use Jake Shane and it just kind of stuck. - Jake Shane, the name is very sticky because it sounds like the name of either a professional baseball player or like an ex football player who's now an action movie star. Like. - Vince Vaughn. - Yeah, was Vince Vaughn a football player? I know. - I just made up. - No, no, no, no. But it's like two syllables total. - Well, it's two first names. - Yes, like, I guess my name's sort of two first names, but Jake Shane feels more rugged than my name. - I'm Scott, Jake Shane. - Jake Shane. - Ooh, it's Jake. - I like that. - Shane, he's gonna kick your fucking ass, you know? - He's unstoppable that Jake Shane. - Yeah. - Have you heard about Jake Shane? - Dude, Jake Shane is like, you need to watch out, man. - I heard he runs a Shane, like a tight ship over there. He runs a tight ship and he's got so much cocaine. - That's weird that you heard that about him. You heard that about him? - I see, I heard that about him. Maybe it's not true, but-- - Yeah, you know, I actually, I heard that too weirdly, but I don't think it's true. I don't think it's true. - Anyway, he will kick your ass. - Yeah, no, Jake Shane's awesome. And he has like this podcast. - Yeah. - Have you ever been on it? - And he makes candy. - Well, he doesn't make candy. He makes candy in his guest house. - Would you ever think of going on his podcast? Jake Shane's? - Yeah, maybe. You know, I used to make candy. I worked at a candy shop at an amusement park and I made saltwater taffy. - Wow, that sounds fun, honestly. I heard you also worked at Johnny Rockets. - Yeah, for one day. - And then you found out they made you sing? - Yeah, and I left. - That's okay. - Yeah.
I didn't leave, because I'm not rude, but I just didn't come back the next day, which is rude. So you laughed? I laughed too, yeah. But you know, you rewrote that narrative beautifully just now. So what is this? We're helping. We're helping the world. I'm a type A girl in a world of type Bs. All my friends are constantly running late, very unreliable and disorganized to the point. It starts affecting my life and my busy schedule. I want them to change so badly, but I know that that's impossible to ask of someone. I love them too, but it's very upsetting and they do not care at all. I'm really sorry, but you may have to read that again. I just spaced out. Do you want to read it? Yeah. By the way, that happens to every single guest. Frankie, you know. Okay. Frankie, your response. Frankie's shoes. Oh my god. My god, your chic ass glasses. Okay, this is more of just a brag about being organized. I kind of see. I agree. That's all that is. It's like, well, are your friends are like my best friend Cassidy is type B and I'm type A. Yeah. It's not my problem. I'm better than all my friends and I'm not sure how to tell them. Yeah. Like a lot of my friends are type B. A lot of my friends. And it doesn't affect me. I'll just scream. Yeah. You're fine. Like if I'm or you just say like, I'm leaving. Like if you're late to somewhere, like, I'm leaving, you can stay. Yeah. You're fine. They're fine. It doesn't matter. That's a great pair. Oh, thanks. That's part of getting a little older as you realize it. None of that stuff really matters that much. So funny. Bring that up because my frontal lobe just developed. Oh, how's it feel? Fucking awesome. Yeah. It looks good. It looks like it's all together. Yeah. That's my third eye. Okay. I feel it. I every time, like I was freaking out today about this. Like I wanted to, like I was always a collector as a kid. Like I always like collected like Pokemon cards or whatever. So I was obsessing over this thing that I wanted to buy today. And then I was like, wait, oh my god, I'm obsessing over it because I have OCD. And I like connected the dots. But I knew I always had OCD. But I never like caught it in live action. And I caught it. I was like, gotcha. Oh, good for you. Thank you. I wait. How old are you when the frontal lobe finally like takes shape? I think 30. Are you 30? You did not. What? Are you younger than that? You just said my frontal lobe like developed to like so I'm you did lead him there. What happened? I'm 26. Oh, okay. Well, at your at your age, whether it be 26 to like 32, there's no insulting any like thinking you're anywhere from 25 to 32 is all a compliment. All of it because it's all the same age essentially. You feel that way? Well, I feel that way now because I'm 53. It is crazy. I you look really young. Thanks. Good for you. I hope I I just like you. Thank you. You're welcome. Me and my boyfriend have been together since high school. So we took a break because we thought it'd be healthy now that we're in our mid 20s. We recently got back to okay. So the boy. So they were together in high school and then they took a break. We recently got back together and he told me all about all the people he hooked up with within that four months or so. I guess though these were the rules, but I didn't even like make out with anyone. I'm having a really hard time getting over this. Oh, you can't move on. Well, yeah, she's it's over. Yeah. Well, you think it's over because she'll never get over. Yeah. Well, it's not his fault if they were on. She knows that. If they were, you know, she knows that. Yeah, she says it's never gonna. She's a little bitter about it. Unless they take another four months and she goes and does her thing, she'll never get over it. Yeah, but then at that point, it's like forced, you know, it's like I'm only doing this because the guy my ex boyfriend did it. Yeah. I think you were just you've grown apart. Have you ever seen the movie someone great? No, you should watch that. Have you ever seen the movie? How to be single? The no, I haven't seen that. Neither have I, but you should watch that. Okay. Okay. Yeah, I'll get right on that. What's your favorite movie of all time? Indiana Jones in the Temple of Doom. Have you ever seen that? Have you ever seen sex lies and videotape? You should watch that. It's about. It's about four people trying to figure out their lives. I'm trying to think of how to say what this is about. You should watch that movie. It's from 1989. It's, I know, that's like reaching back. I know. It's it's like scary. How old that shale came up. Oh my god. I have a hard time with old movies. But it's not, it's not, it's not going to feel old. I just watched it like a year ago and it felt like it could have been made yesterday. Okay. 1989. It's not like watching a movie from the 30s where everyone's like, yeah, yeah. I mean, I would never watch a movie from the 30s. Okay. So watch a movie from the late 80s. Like you've seen good fellas, right? That's movie. Okay. That's that was shot in 1989. You're lying. No, it came out in 1990. I just watched Casino for the first time too. That was really good. Didn't took me four times. It's really a harsher movie than good fellas. But you know what? You know what I love the end date where he goes and that's about it. Yeah. I know. Like, okay. Did you see the Irishman? I I tried. Dude, the Irishman. It's amazing. I think it's his best movie. De Niro, Scorsese, but De Niro's in it. Yes. It might be. I think it's, I've seen it so many times. I think it might be my favorite of those two. Okay. I'll watch the Irishman. Good fellas. I watch what it's so good. Say that again. I watched good fellas when I co-fed and I was like, oh my god. I'm obsessed with this. Have you seen Cape Fear? No. Dude, you have another Mafia movie. I love the Mafia. Oh, no, but it's those two together. Do you watch Real Housewives? I got you know what I got really into that I feel like I'm the only one is the new New York. I thought you were about to hit me with Rhode Island and I was about to like go up and do that. I haven't been there yet. You like the new New York. No one likes it. It's horrendous. But are they done now? Yes, because it's so bad. Because they were complete strangers and it was obvious and they it was and they literally do not remember they like pull the prank on the audience. You remember what they like pull the prank they like made up a fake storyline and then like broke the fourth wall. Do you remember this? It was like so big in the bravo world and I'm so angry about it. I just remember all of them accusing what's her name of doing something. Oh, that was horrible. Horrible. That was horrible. No one likes it. I even was on Andy Cohen's show and I was like, hey, the the New New York, I'm really enjoying the season and he was like, yeah, so even he couldn't like get behind it. It's a big Rhode Island. Get into it. That's the new one, right? Oh, it is exceptional. All right. Do you watch Survivor? So I started this season and then once Mike White got voted off, I gave up. That was very like soon. So after like three or four episodes, I was out. But I was never a survivor guy. I was like an American Idol guy. I was a bad girls club guy. I was an America's next top model guy. Okay. Like I liked the girl. I'm going to the finale on Wednesday. Oh, are you a big survivor guy? I'm a yes. I love survivor. Have you ever met Jeff, Jeff Probes? I know Jeff Probes. Yes. Are you guys buddies? Yes. He's a rad person. That sounds fun. An old friend is visiting from out of town and is crashing on my couch. We had a fun
weekend, but apparently he hit, apparently, a ferret. We had a fun weekend, but apparently he has no return flight. I work on weekdays and I just don't want to host wallstrasse, etc. I also don't want to get come out. So how do I really hint at the fact he's overstained as welcome? You have to say you must leave. Yeah, you can't hint. Hinting only causes resentment between both of you. Don't you think? Yeah. Before you pick an album and hint and that's exhausting. And for him, because he's going to be like, is she hinting to make me leave? Yeah. What an asshole. Just tell me straight up. Yeah. Be for real. But also at the same time, this is all very like 20s coded, I think, like at a particular point, you just have to be like, like if you're going to come stay with a friend, you should not stay for more than two nights, unless you are very upfront. Like I need to stay with you for two weeks or whatever. Like you don't just come and start staying with someone. Right. I've been housing my friends for a week now. How's that going? Well, the house is a bit of a mess, but you know, it's really, it's been nice because it makes it feels like college again. Yeah. I come home. They're there depends who it is and what your relationship is. Yeah, but it sounds like this is fine. I realized that guy friendships aren't really like that. I was never great with when I, when I, when I, I had roommates and it was never my fate as soon as I could, I lived by myself. Okay. You know, I can't live alone. I lived alone the first two years of college, not par on me. Freshman year of college, you lived by yourself in a single dorm, a single dorm. And it was lonely. Disgusting. Yeah. I watch my, I watched my sheets twice. Yeah. Over the entire year. Yeah. Twice. I know to do it. And then I could, I'm so short, I couldn't put it back on. I was like, I can't do this bullshit. Washing sheets until you're like in your early thirties, it's just impossible. Like how do you do this? I don't. Yeah. I don't. I do now. If, if there are sheets on the bed longer than like, you know, five days or something, it grosses me out. But then I started living with a friend my junior and senior year. And then I always lived with people ever since then. And now I live here with friends. Yeah. Well, it's great. Yeah. To each their own. So you should tell your friends to leave. And if you need help, you should watch real housewives. Yeah. Because they are very confrontational. Do you ever watch Jersey Shore? No, I never, I mean, I was, I, when it was a huge thing. Didn't you parody it? Jersey Shore. Am I like making sure? Oh, no, I was on the bachelor parody. The, yes, yes, you were Ken Marino and yes. Erick Ooyama. How are you unlocked for me? Well, I was kind of wrote that and did that. I love Jersey Shore. What was it called? The, the bachelor? I know what you're talking about. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you know what a situation ship is? I believe so. It's just like a, you just hooking up. It's not really a relationship. Okay. Period. My two situations have found out about each other recently obsessed. And now they're both asking. What? Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. It gets a little dirty. You don't care? Why? 'Cause Frankie. I don't care. Okay. Here we go out of them. All right. My two situations have found out about each other recently. And now they're both asking me for a three-way my dream date. I've had so suspicions in the past that they both might have previously hooked up with other guys. But now I have a theory that they just want to hook up with each other. Should I do it for the plot or am I inviting trouble? Obviously do it for the plot. Everything I do is for a story. Uh-huh. If I was seeing two different men and they were like, let's all hang out. Hello, date and time. I can't work. Do it. That sounds amazing. And then if it works out poorly, just be so depressed for a week. Yeah. And like be like, I'm depressed for the week. But then you have the experience. Unfortunately. So I prescribed doing it. Yeah. What do you not? Why not? Why not? My roommates keep the temperature at 76 degrees. Oh my god. Oh my god. I literally my entire body just revels. And it is so hot every night. If I try to make it colder, they get mad. I open my windows and don't sleep under my cuff. Oh my god. But nothing helps. It is so fucking hot. I live with four girls. And they all three agree on it. So I'm outnumbered. Oh, 76 degrees. What do you sleep about cold sleeper? If I had my way, I would be at max 68 degrees. I knew we'd get along. I love it freezing cold. Me too. I 62. 62? Yep. With a fan by my side. I would love it so much. 62 fan by my side and on an eight sleep on a negative time. It depends. Like if it's summertime, 68 doesn't feel cool enough. I like 16 is a never. Yeah. Cool enough. In New York in the winter, I opened my windows. Oh, I love it. I love. I hate New York in the winter when it's like too hot inside. Every work is radiators are going disgusting. I like having some breeze in there. I love it freezing. Free. I don't know why. Why are we like that? I don't know. What do you think? Maybe we're anxious. Are you anxious? Yeah. Everyone else in my house likes a little warmer. I can't. I can't do it when I when I walk into a house. I'm going to my friend's house after this. It's so hot. I already know I'm going to be so hot. I'm stressed. It's so hot. Especially if it's stuffy and there's no air. That's even worse. And you like choking on your own grass. Yeah. It's why I can barely do a sauna. But lately, I've been obsessed with sauna. Because I was told it helps you lose water weight, which I didn't know existed. Well, of course, it does. I did not know that I thought you just peed it out. Do you have a sauna here? I do. Do you use it all the time? Recently happened. Yeah. Is it that one of those circle ones? What? Those ones that are like a circle. No, but I want one now. Yeah. I think you're talking about the same thing. Okay. Mine is rectangle. So it's like a little pod. But it's not a circle. It's a rectangle. So I met this cute guy at the gym. Those are different shapes. I met this cute guy at the gym and we ended up hitting it off. We've been on two dates so far and each one has been amazing. I was showing my friend his insta and she told me she actually talked to him on hinge and he ghosted her. She feels weird about me seeing him, which is understandable. But I finally have a good thing going here. Am I a bad friend for seeing him behind her back? Yes, you need to tell her, but she's a bad friend for ruining that for you. I got lost during that one. You got this. What do you think? Again, who cares? Like just do whatever you want. Right? I see it like that. And that's it. Those were pretty good. I like all the octopi in here. I feel like we really got close throughout this entire experience. I know. And by the way, I know you're a bad liar. So I know you. I know you mean it. I do. How do you know I'm a bad liar? I can tell. I feel like you don't like to gossip, so you don't like to lie. I don't love it. No. You really don't like to gossip? Ever. You don't want to sit down once and just rip it. Sure. But you know, I do always end up feeling a little skeezy afterwards. Frankie, do you like to gossip? I die for her. She's awesome. She's the best. Well, Adam, what did we learn today? I mean, I learned a lot. Me too. A lot. I learned that there are good people left in the world, and I'm sitting with one of them. I think I learned that this is my new favorite podcast. No, you didn't. I think I did. Wait, you really have that much fun? I could tell. I could tell at one point, I was like, wait, he's having fun. Oh, totally. I was like, wait, he's having fun. Totally. Well, you know, I have a meeting with your lovely wife coming up soon. Oh, yeah, you do. Yeah. Are you coming to our office? I hope so. I think so. Great. Yeah. Awesome. So we get to hang out again. Yeah. Love it. This was like the pre-meet. I mean, I love it. Bye, posties.
