Session 132: Role Model Strikes Back

In this third episode of "Therapuss," Jake Shane and Tucker (Role Model) reunite as friends, reflecting on their evolving dynamic since the first two episodes. They open with kindness, praising each other's work, and transition into playful banter about vintage shopping, Tucker's new album "Chuck Timely and the Hourglass" (out August 7th), and his upcoming tour. Jake's mom, Mocha, calls in as Tucker's superfan, sharing her favorite songs and gushing over his lyrics, which leads to heartfelt moments about fan connections. The duo plays their recurring "Three, Two, One" game, discusses Tucker's wrist injury (De Quervain's tenosynovitis), and debates the end of the "Sally" bit, with Tucker confirming it's retired. They also touch on travel, with Tucker admitting he prefers America for its air conditioning and comfort, while Jake promotes his Alo Wellness Club workout series. The episode features a dating roleplay where they improvise awkward scenarios, and a surprise call to fan Mandy, who is ecstatic to speak with them. Throughout, they joke about fame, anxiety, and their friendship, ending with a playful dispute over Mandy's excitement toward Jake. The tone is casual and humorous, blending personal stories with promotional content, and closes with Jake's catchphrase "Bye-pussies."

[MUSIC] Tucker is back on the podcast and Brett is here doing the intro for us today. Hi, hi. I missed you so much. I missed you more and this is our last month, living together. I really can't talk about it. I might start crying. It hasn't hit me yet. It's starting to kind of hit me. It really hasn't hit me yet. And it's really making me sad. But-- I push. Yeah. That's what Alicia from Rhode Island taught me. Just push it down. Push, push it down. Yeah. Repress. I'll do that for the next few weeks. Yeah. It's the point in being miserable. It's too much going on, yeah. But you are very stressed today. Yeah, I just have a lot. There's a lot going on. Well, you have a lot going on, too. You're about to leave. I've changed. My personality has shifted a lot these past few months. Why do you think? I'm vintage shopping now. Right. That's the shirt. Yeah, vintage, you guys. I only shop at one vintage store, which I know is takes away the whole point from vintage shopping. Actually, I would say my vintage journey started maybe at the beginning of this year. I think it started in Japan. It started in Japan and on D-Pop. Right. And I just took it to a level where it's like, I feel like my issue with vintage shopping is I feel like I need it all, because it's like one of one. And it's like so cool. It's like pieces are like cool. Yeah, I don't know where this is from. But it's spoke to me. Remember, we went to the Silver Lake Flea Market and vintage stores in college. And I bought that Chicago Bull shirt that I like-- Was it so hot? It was hot. It was senior year. Why don't I remember-- wait, yes, I do. And I bought the three-mendous shirt. Do you wear it still? Like, not as much as I used to. I lived in that shirt, senior year. And we were like, oh, my god. Yeah, because it's like one of one. It's like, where'd you get this? Yeah. I don't know if people know this, but do people know your mom is Tucker's number one fan? I don't think people know. Can you explain? So my mom discovered role model last year. No, maybe a year and a half ago. But she was early on it for the moms. He has a big mom audience. He has a big mom audience, but she was early on it. And she became obsessed and obsessed with his new album. And like, she loves Tucker so much she knows all his songs. And Jake once nicely got her-- A video message? Yeah. Jake got her a video message from Tucker. And she calls him Tucker, not role model, but should we ask her what her favorite song is? Should we see if she picks up? I think she would appreciate that. Yeah, just speak her phone app. I'm here with Jake. Hi, Mocha. We are recording the intro to the Therapus episode with Tucker. And we wanted to know what your favorite thing about Tucker is and your favorite song. OK, but before I do that, can we just take a beat, Jake? Are you aware of how good you look? And do you feel as good about yourself as you look currently? You know what? Today I felt it. I'm laughing at you. Are you hearing me? No, and I need to hear you more because I do have-- I'm still having like negative mindset. OK, well, baby steps, but I want to tell you-- Thank you. Sort of like Brett had a moment when she just like, her authentic sunshine returned. And I feel like that's who you are right now. Yes, thank you. Oh, you really, really feel that way? I wouldn't say it if I didn't, honey. Oh, that's nice, Mocha. Oh, thank you. You guys know that. All right, Tucker, I have to be careful because I'm a 62-year-old grandmother. I got to be careful because it's very sexual, but he just does this little thing with his mouth. He sends the crowd spinning. And he is what he's a word-smith, which I know you guys appreciate because of Taylor. He has written powerful lyrics that we all want to sing from the top of our lungs. And that is rare. So, yeah, he's a rarity. What's your favorite song? If you have to choose. I only do one. You can do two. You can do two. Can I do early Tucker? Yes, please, please. OK, all right, but I want to get the correct, because the lyrics are in my head rather than song titles. So, let me do a little research and I will do a group text to you guys. OK, that's fine. And he has sold out the salt shed before Mocha could get ticket. So, I'm going to lean in, guys, when that's in September. Tucker, what's the salt shed? A venue in Chicago. He's playing this venue in Chicago, which is outrageous and cool. And I mean, I was talking-- OK, I played Tucker's the video that you got for me, Jake, at a party on the 4th of July, because the girls were like, oh, my god, Mocha, we're totally in a role model because of you. And I'm like, yeah, well, is this me, Mr. Tucker? It's on my phone. And they're like, why don't you put that on social media? I go, because that's not for social media. That's for me. And you, because I've had two cocktails. Yes. OK, well, we'll get you to Tucker in Chicago, mom. Love you. Oh, my god. All right, so I will send-- I know the words, but because it's the title of the song, you'll know the lyrics. Some pretend, or that one? No, just-- I'm going to do it. I'm in the middle of an insurance assignment, but I will do an use assignment as soon as I'm done with this. All right, OK, love you. Love you, Mocha. Where were you just? I was just in Switzerland in Croatia. Oh, yes, Brad, Brad, Brad, Brad, Brad, Brad, Brad. I can't speak to-- Wait, did you see I got cautious in Switzerland? I did see that. And I'm realizing I can't speak because I'm high. That makes sense. I'm like, why can't I speak? Why aren't my thoughts connecting to my-- Yeah, yeah. And it's-- Did you end up smoking earlier at like 11? Yeah, I did. OK. It's the summer. When it's the summer and it's hot out, you just want to be high in the sun. And by the way, I've been getting some color on my face. Like, I woke up with some preckles. Love. Oh, I've been watching Skins, UK. Have you ever seen? No, was that on MTV? So there was a US version on MTV. And that was a very poorly received. Yeah, I remember-- Very, very, very poorly received. I remember my mom used to tell me if I saw Skins on the TV guy. And I couldn't press the show. I couldn't watch it. Well, you know today in TV shows, they like outright say things because they assume that you're on your phone. Did you know this? They give extra expositions. I actually did know this. Like, they give like-- and I'm in the restaurant. Like, they like shit like that. So because they assume people are on their phone. Whereas if you're back in the day, if you're-- I'm watching Skins and I'm like, oh, I have to put my phone down and lock in because I'm like going to miss some minor detail that implies and explains this because each episode is a different character. Oh my god, Skins is amazing. Louise, you would die. How have you not seen Skins? I've seen it like four times. Oh. Like, when it was-- when it was airing? Well, I'm on a Skins journey. Well, I don't want to change the subject. You can change the subject. The new Hunger Games movie is going to change your life. Wait, why? Because the book? The book. Have you read it? I haven't read it, but I've been following your story. No, no, no, no. Like, you don't understand how to aim at your games. The book is-- Should I read the book? Like, maybe. Have you been reading? No, but fuck it. Like, what else am I going to do? It is so good, so fucking sad. It was so good. And the movie comes out November, and I'm so excited, because I know you love the Hunger Games, and I do too. I love the Hunger Games. It's going to, like, it's going to change lives. Maybe I'll give it a-- maybe I'll give it a read. It didn't easy read. I mean, did you read the original Hunger Games? Yeah, easiest reads ever. Then, yes. It's very similar to the first one. OK. I'm sold. Yeah. I wrote a vacation. It was amazing. You need to watch Skins, though. OK. It's old, though. It's like from 2007. Like, I don't know if you're down for that. No, that's fine. I'm rewatching-- or, actually, no, I'm not rewatching. I'm watching on Trot's right now with Matt. Oh, then you can definitely do Skins. Which is-- Skins walks so you four you could run. Or, honestly, vice versa. Skins ran so you four you could walk. Like, Skins is like, actually, no offense to you for you. Like, you four you as great, but Skins is like, change my life. Like, Skins is like, I'm watching it, and I'm like, oh my god. Like, the way these people live, like, yeah, you could argue that it's bad, because they, like, kind of are so day by day. And, like, but not everything is the end of the world. Like, things kind of just happen in Skins. And life moves on. Do you know what I mean? That's a good message. Like, life moves on. Like, no one in the show is like, oh my god, it's the best show I've ever seen. It's amazing in the theme songs, like a banger. I'm seeing if my mom is texted us. She has it. We've loved role models since. Senior year of college. Yes, R-X. What was our favorite song of that? Oh, she just just wanted. My mom said, life is funny, number one, early Tucker, with, say it first, close, second. Current Tucker, some protector. Oh, she's like, going. With, with high hopes, 3,000 in second by a nose, forever and more. Oh, wait, give me, give me, give me, give me, give me. Oh, and never let you go. And, and die for my bitch. And who hurt you? We have my favorite. And, um, oh, I think my favorite was R-X. Do you remember I loved R-X? Yeah. I've never let you never let you go so good so good But okay at this current time I'm in France and if France is still in the World Cup Oh, it's gonna be insane. It's gonna be insane. I'm gonna be having the time of my life Well, cuz everyone's has mbappe is like the best player and he's fresh. Yeah And I'm gonna be in France You think they're gonna like to have it on like every bar. Yes. I think so. I think they go I think they go wait over oh my god. I was in France during the fucking heatwave, which is genuinely like we didn't talk about it Enough because I shut my mouth I complain. Yeah, but I we didn't we don't talk about the fact that I was there for Louise I mean brad Wow When I Left my hotel I I couldn't I actually couldn't leave my hotel. No, you know, I can't even put there there was no one on the street Nobody's 105 degrees. It was crazy crazy crazy like crazy like I've never been so hot in my entire life I was out at night one night the one night I went out Drinking wine and all of a sudden I feel a drop and my back had been dripping sweat everywhere And then I just looked around and everyone's back with dripping sweat and I was like okay I guess I'll lean into the sweat. Yeah, you kind of have to it makes going out a tad more vulnerable and a tad more fun I would say actually as well like when I was out and I was sweating and I was like I'm out and I'm sweating And I feel like I'm letting myself. Oh the new Madonna album is amazing speaking of sweating. Have you heard? Speaking of sweating. Have you heard the new Madonna album? I'm listening to like three songs. Oh I haven't listened. It's so good. It's so good. Read my lips. Oh Good for the soul like you've been like listening to this album dude. I've been listening to this album. Wow Well, what I love about the album is It's really helping me deep dive into Madonna and I'm like so fascinated about her early days in New York in the 80s and late 70s I'm like fascinated by it. Yeah. Oh When you are away are you gonna be using my shake and train with Jake Shane's series on the aloe on this club app? Yeah, of course. I already have a downloaded. Really? Yeah Thank you What's crazy about the aloe stuff is actually one of the first people to compliment me on my workout journey was Tucker in that very first episode and My body has transformed so much since then So I just am really excited that I got to do this because I'm like I feel I feel I've never felt comfortable with my shirt off as you know It's so full circle and amazing. Aloe has been such a big thing for you. Biggest. Yeah every morning. Are you going to aloe? Yeah, every single morning. It's really a routine and I got to shoot it in the South of France Which is amazing, which is amazing. Yeah, and if you guys want to check it out for yourself You can go to the aloe wellness club calm slash Jake to download the app and you do my shake and train with Jake Shane's series today As well as 4,000 other classes that include Pilates, strength training, yoga, bar, mat, everything you need And it's free. I thought a fun way to stay in touch when you move despite you saying like I know you're like It's close by we should send each other what song we're listening to that day that we're hyperfixated on Yes, because we both always hyperfixate on a song of the days Yes, we just like wake up and send the song. Yes, and I think that's a beautiful way to stay in touch. Let's do that Okay, but I was telling Max today that I'm just like so overwhelmed with like things that I have on to or I have going on To and he said well, it's better that to be underwhelmed. Yes always I was like you're so right always Joan River's biopic She'll point to the page of nothing and say this in my worst nightmare. Yeah Yeah, so you got to just be grateful. Yeah and power through Well, should we say our favorite Tucker song in honor of the third episode? Yeah, what yours? I think forever and more mind Sally Oh, well, of course because you were the first Sally ever. Yeah, and like never forget it. No, so My my favorite is Sally just because of what it means to me. I love you so much. I love you more enjoy the episode Pussies Hey guys, welcome back to therapist the new season and now exclusively on Netflix and I'm we're I'm here with Jake my friend now I don't want to hear it. We're friends now Okay, continue with your intro. I'm sorry. Um, the first time we did this we were strangers complete We've gotten to know each other And your phone's passing a lot we keep in contact How is moving the phone from one side of the octave up to the other good to stop it from buzzing. I don't know what to do with it. I'm sorry Um, but I'm happy to be back. I know We are thing is maybe that we're We sort of go at go at it with each other a lot. Oh, yeah, it's your new era about kindness And so now I just think that maybe we could open this episode with kindness. Oh, okay, I'm being sweet to one another My hands are a little bobby. Oh, yours are too Bommie bommie, yes, okay So I'd like to just start by his new album chup timely and the hourglass is out august 7th. Please give it up for Tucker role model Pillsbury Well, I have to do that. Okay Um, but like I was saying, I think that we could just start with kindness. I just want to start by saying I'm I'm proud of you You're a very hard worker You've done so much more than make take talks and personating things. Thank you Well, okay, so for opening this up with kindness. I am very proud of you You've been singing all around the town everywhere and people know every word Oh, yeah, every word. I will say there's one other thing I want to just start off with Remember when you called me when Nile Horn was on here Yeah, are you trying to like clear the air on the yes because I caught shit. I know you did And people didn't take the joke But understand this. I was in the studio and I was working Jake called me. I didn't answer He called me again. I didn't answer and before I could even text him and be like, hey, I'll call you later Nile Horn calls me for the first time ever Yeah, he's never called me and so obviously in my head I go, oh, they're on The podcast. This would be funny if I pick up for him and not for Jake and it was funny and it was funny Did people actually get angry about it before we're like he's like the worst friend ever. Oh, this is like too far Everything out of everything. It's just any new tattoos. What no new tattoos Um, I heard you want to get at your piercing. I remember you called me and asked if that would be a good idea I don't even remember did you say that you were doing a mask calling of like everyone You know to be like is it weird if I get my ear pierced and what did you say? I think I talked you out of it You don't think so because I just you were talking about a single earring and I like one right here. I know Don't you have one? But your ears are pierced they used to be When did you get them out? Um, you know, it's funny is as soon Um, I did a movie with Lena. I know you uh-huh way long time ago when she the first time she ever called me about it and was like I have this movie blah blah blah talk to me about it It wasn't even like confirmed that I'd be in the movie. It was just the possibility I was like I got off the phone and I took my earrings out and I was like they need to I want them to heal before I shoot a movie Because I don't want to look like a douchebag in a Movie with Natalie Portman. Did they heal? Kind of, but I think you can still see the little dot Um, yeah, I can unfortunately. I don't think it's unfortunately. I just I thought maybe I just needed to grow up a little bit and Um, so Lena Dunham is the reason I did it. Oh wow It's a cool fun fact for the therapist. I still hear your phone buzzing buzz buzz buzz. I can't do anything about it Can't put your phone on do not just serve. You can just throw it out there. I'm sorry. I like your ballet shoes Thanks My they're my lemon pepper steppers. I was told what they're my lemon pepper steppers What do you mean lemon peppers? What's a lemon pepper stepper? I know the someone on my touring team said you got the lemon pepper steppers You excited to go back on tour I am excited to go back on tour. I'm very excited. We just did some festivals. I saw in Europe and It got me very excited, but it was fun So like let's just sit with it for a second because I'm just I thought by now you'd be better And I just saw it in your eyes Of you just searching for and that's just it hit me and I was like oh he's probably seasoned by now He's like he's probably got this down, but I just got to sit with it for a sec because I don't think you do. Okay, what if we Go back to our roots for a second. Yeah, and play the game What game three two one game sure. I would love that. Okay, three wait your word Mm-hmm three two one sneaker Wood and sneaker Three two one golden goose okay Okay. three. I'm already there, you're not there. Three, two, one, sandal, gardening in sandal. Three, two, one, soil. Okay. Soil and rake. Three, two, one, flour. How long did it take us the other time? Like two hours. But then when we got it, it was amazing. Let's just start again really quick. Okay. Oh, my wrist. Have you heard about my wrist? No. Let's go. Let's come back to this game. Talk about the wrist. Okay. Three, two, one, come back to the game. Talk about your wrist right now. Oh, okay. Let's come back when we sing. Okay. I have Dequeur Evan's tendonitis. You did tell me about that. And it hurts. Look. Is it shaking? This tendon so inflamed. Oh, Jake, I know. I've been run ragged. And how do you help it? What? How do you help the wrist? What do you do? Oh, physical therapy, steroid shot. I have a brace. I said, sorry. Have you ever heard a part of yourself? I have. I've broken a lot of bones. What bones? My knee, my wrist, my arm. I broke my wrist. Yeah. I broke it multiple times and they have scars on my wrist from it. And then when did you break your knee? I just, just not what people want to hear. I know. Okay. So what do you think you want to hear? I don't know. Like the Sally thing is just run dry, huh? How do you feel about that? The Sally thing ending? You started the Sally thing. How does it feel that it's not ended? You're like, good, because every time you brought up a different Sally on stage, I would be like, okay. Yeah, you're right. I'd be like, okay. And then you didn't end it with me, which would have been sweet. And now neither of us are going to have anything to talk about in interviews. Have you officially like killed it? Yeah. Yeah. It's done. I think it's important to know I went to end a bit. So who was your final Sally? Who's the last one? I didn't think about it at the time, but it was Robert Erwin. And it was truly, I think aside from Olivia Rodrigo, it was the craziest response to Sally. Watch it. No, I'm just saying the pride of his nation, country nation. Where's he from New Zealand, Australia? Australia. Yeah. What do you, what do you, I'm on my page? That's not a page. Is that for your diabetes? How is Nick Jonas? He's diabetes. Yeah, we spoke about it. Actually, we spoke about his diabetes. And he remembered meeting me. Yeah, I didn't think he would. Oh, from Vegas. Yeah. I know. He said he's like, you're there to. We talked about that. And you said you remember me, but I know you did. I do. I remember exactly where you were on the plane, the back. No, I was in the back. Okay. Um, three, two, one, fork, fork and book. Let's keep going. Let's just, okay. Do you want to, okay, so you said you had questions about my candy? Yeah, I'm just curious. It's creative officer, jeep creative officer. Oh, it's your name is on it. Yeah, Jay Sheen's our bus. It's amazing. Okay. You let me know when you want one. I will let you know, let's go back because we talked about being nice. Yes, sorry. I feel like I'm being a little mean. Yeah, I know. I feel like I'm being mean. Like I came into this thing and you were going to come for me. No, I wanted to try and be nice today because I feel like, um, I want one. They're just so good. I can't look at them and I can't eat that. What are you saying? Yeah, make sure you eat it into the mic too. You know, the guy just ripped off his headphones. I can't even imagine what he just went through. That kills me. I'm gonna get comfortable. That was tough. That was not a cleanser. How's the east side of Los Angeles? It's good. Have a house now. You've a house? Have a house. So you do make money? It's nothing like yours. I've lived in the same house since you've known me. I've seen yours. I know. And it's always been impressive. But you lived here with a lot of people and now you pretty much are about to live here alone. I know. What are we going to do? Which proves? I don't know. I don't know why you live out here. I'm not going to dox you, but I don't know why you live where I live. Because you're such a social butterfly that I would think you'd want to be near. What's your favorite memory with me since we last recorded? I enjoyed. I remember you on my birthday last year. So fun. I don't love celebrating my birthday, so I just had a dinner with what was going to be me and my four friends. And I remember you all to me. And you're like, it's your birthday. I was like, yeah, I'm going to dinner and he was like, I'm coming. And then Jake showed up and it was actually really fun. And you got to meet Kai and it was fun. And I love Kai. Yeah, I love Kai. He's been a lot of time with Kai. I do. That's my that's my bestie. Do you miss him right now? I do. I haven't seen him in what two days. No, I was, I was in like five days. I miss him. I feel about my best friends too. They're in New York. Yeah, you, you know, I know, you know, well, I got a place in New York. I found that out recently. Because anytime you face time, me when you were in New York, the background and stuff, it is what I imagine, like, I just imagined you were staying with take my cry. That's yours. You can say it proudly. It's my apartment that I got after I did Broadway. Period. Well, where's your Burkin? I was going to bring it. Because we talked about I wanted to sell it to you. I don't. Can I be honest? I thought you were going to like midway through that episode would be like, I have a surprise for you. Give it to you. Yeah. Well, funny story. I was going to do a music video that I'm not going to do anymore, but I had a music video and my dream is to have sexy red in a music video. And I just, I love her. I think she's amazing. And what I was going to do, my pitch was I was going to give her the Burkin to just be in the music video. Yeah, you know, Neon gives all of them with Barker Burkins all the time. I don't know. That doesn't come across your desk. Neon the streamer. Thank you Seek Geek for sponsoring tonight's episode. I don't know if you've heard, but I have a new workout series with the Allo Wellness Club app called The Shake and Training with Jake Shane series. It is four ten minute workout sessions to our strength training to our Pilates. And I have such an incredible time filming them in the South of France with Louie Chandler and Bianca. It was seriously one of the most fun days of my entire life. And that whole trip in general was just incredible. But if you listen to this podcast, you know that I've had a really important relationship with working out over these past three years. And that's all thanks to the Allo Wellness Club, both in Los Angeles and New York. And all the trainers there, they've like really helped shift my mindset on working out, which has been like honestly consistently working out has been a struggle for me throughout my entire life. I finally feel like I'm at a place because of the Allo Wellness Club and these trainers. I'm really proud of my progress that I've made. Also travel a lot. When I travel, it's hard for me to consistently go to the gym if I don't have a routine. And the Allo Wellness Club app helps me have a routine because even if you don't like my series, which is so fine, there are 4,000 other classes that you can do from yoga, strength training, Pilates, mat, bar, like anything you need. The Allo Wellness Club app has and helps you stay on a good workout schedule, even if you're just in your room. Or even if you only have 10 minutes, like the classes are only, some of the classes are only 10 minutes. Classes I do, they're four classes, they're 10 minutes each. You can do only one of them and still have a great workout. Also, the great thing is I wanted to make the series feel like my podcast meets me working out in a way, so I feel I hope that they make you laugh. as hard as I laughed while filming them and working out. 'Cause working out is also about having fun. Also, the best thing is, it's free. You can just go to alohwellnessclub.com/chake and download the app today to start working out with me. That's alohwellnessclub.com/chake. Thank you again, aloh, for working with me. This has been such a dream. I hope this is only the beginning. (upbeat music) I think what we feel what I feel right now is like, okay, the first two were amazing, and now it's like the third, and it's like a lot has changed, and it's like, well, what now? Let's talk about that, 'cause I, there's a, now, I'm just gonna, the internet's very predictable. I'm sure you know that as well. Yes. It's gonna be, this is gonna be the fall off episode of us, too. You think I kind of pop out here this morning. I woke up and I was like, are people, is it gonna, is this it? They're just, it's just predictable.
