The J.P. poll routinely drops on Tuesdays in the fall. We don't have room for it in the show tonight. Truthfully, it's one of the biggest breaking news 72-hour windows I've ever seen in my life, and may we get a lot to get to huge, huge developments in the SEC and LSU today. I know sometimes when I take that tone to start the show at Sarcastic, this is not Sarcasm. There's just a lot going on. It's prediction night. We got a huge weekend because this is a sport where we play football games. After all, Ohio State Texas will predict it on the show tonight. Oklahoma Michigan will be their Saturday. We'll predict it on the show tonight. Bama Kentucky on the show tonight, several more games Thursday. Why? Because we don't have room for them all tonight. The A.P. poll presented exclusively by drugs at this point. Do you think you think this stuff I'm about to leave the show with with LSU was the biggest news today? No. LSU's placement in the A.P. poll is even more egregious. That is a little Sarcasm, but not much. All that plus Western Michigan, it turns out they want their win back. And you know what? They should. They're watching us in Statesboro, Georgia. They're watching us in Dallas, Texas. They're watching us in Shawnee, Kansas, Aniston, Alabama. If you haven't already, many of you have. Please do so. Thank you very much. In advance, let's dive in. I hold in my hand a piece of paper or several headlines on it. I never thought I would see. There were just bombshell headlines this morning. I know I always preach physical fitness, but sometimes if you go to the gym, you miss everything because I went to the gym this morning. And then I got out no more than an hour 15, hour 20. And all of a sudden, there's headlines about the SEC seeking authority to do what? Expel LSU from the conference, you know, the kinds of things that we joked about. And we said, you know what they ought to do? The SEC wasn't joking about it. Show me the first headline from this morning, Bradley from on three. I don't know what time this was, but I would guess it's around 11 a.m. The SEC filed an amendment to its federal lawsuit against LSU and Lane Kiffin seeking the authority to expel LSU from the league, Pete and Acos reports. And then you wait another 15 minutes and Ross Dellinger, who hasn't slept since roughly February, says the SEC has scheduled a meeting Thursday to quote, decide whether to terminate Louisiana State University as an SEC member institution, legal ease mumbo jumbo. Uh, this is a bombshell headline. So I know sometimes you kind of got to figure out what do I take seriously? What do I not take seriously? And then when there's a serious matter, how big is this matter? You can't just view it in a vacuum, like in isolation, in totality, how big is this? Well, I'll tell you, if, and there's a long way to go between if and the rest of the sentence, but if this were to happen, I don't remember a bigger SEC headline in recent history. I don't know if I remember a bigger SEC headline in my lifetime. I mean, you guys remember five or so years ago when you woke up in the middle of summer and there was this headline mid-morning during SEC media days that Oklahoma and Texas were coming to the SEC. This is several multiples bigger of a story than that to me, because it's something that's not happened. Like, once the last time the SEC kicked a school out of the league. So, um, there's a lot going on here. I strongly encourage you. Don't just watch the show, like go read Ross's work on this, uh, Chris Lowe's done some stuff on this today. John Talty just had a whole link if and book teed up and ready to go. I kind of think he may be in on all this because how else do you describe the perfect timing there? But there was a feeling to take you back a little ways, because we were in Baton Rouge a couple of days last week. There was a feeling going into last weekend's games with all the legal goings on and all the court cases and all the lawsuits and is LSU gonna add pro players and should you even be calling them pro players and well, we're not the only ones trying to do it. All that stuff is that was happening. There were a couple of people that kept saying, hey, man, the SEC's not happy about this to the point where they may be ready to take drastic action. And I made sure to point out on the show last week, like Don De Plowman, who's the chancellor at Tennessee. She made a statement. It was pretty aggressive and she's not really one to publicly talk like that a whole lot. And I said, you need to keep an eye on that because like these people are worked up behind the scenes. So then LSU does not roster the players for the game. Turns out they didn't need them to be Clemson. And coming out of that weekend, I think people just assumed, all right, well, that's the last we'll hear about that. But like I was not looking for the story, but when you're running into that many people over the course of the weekend, the story kind of finds you. And there were a couple of people who would very much be in position to know who kept saying, yeah, buddy, no, this is far from over. This is far from done. Now, I got to admit a little bit of ignorance here because I looked at it and I said, oh, you mean if they end up putting the kids on the roster? And they said, no, we couldn't care less to put them on the roster at this point. And I said, oh, okay, then I went about my business living my life came back to Nashville, did the Sunday show. Here we are a couple of days later. And this is happening. So the feeling last week around the conference was they had the votes if they wanted to to kick LSU out of this league, which is just the most mind-boggling sentence imaginable to the point where when it comes out of my mouth, I pause. And I like, I have to give proper framing for it. That's how insane that is. I think they've got the votes to do it. I think let me scratch that. I think they will have the votes to do it if they push for it. The question is, will they? That's really the only question. And I want to caution anyone out there who's seeking information on this or who's talking about this, you better be careful listening to folks who are talking in absolutes about this. There are no absolutes. If there were absolutes, if there were people out there who know what comes next, they would have predicted this headline today. And no one was predicting this headline today. So we're kind of crossed the Rubicon a little bit. The question becomes now, will the SEC firstly get the movement that they need legally, which will come Wednesday morning to do this? And if they get that, do they do it? Do they have enough votes? That's part A, part B is, do they decide this is what they want to do? Anything could happen here. I really want to stress, like as much as the saner part of me thinks in the back, in front of my mind, there's no way they're going to do this. Outside of like murdering someone right there outside the stadium, it's got to be so drastic, right? That you ever even let these words come out of your mouth. That's what my mind tells me. But then my sensory also tells me You need to be careful. Don't speak in absolutes here. Here's my best guess and it is only a guess I think it's the warning shot to end all warning shots I think it's the SEC also kind of trying to figure out in this new frontier that they're on the precipice of the whole Self-governance frontier if we if we claim we're about to undertake self-governance This is kind of what we have to be able to do. I really think They love to come down hard on Lane Kiffin come down hard on the program without just outright kicking them out of the league That's kind of what I think I don't know because I think everything's on the table right now But you need to understand the temperature here So the SEC like I said they're anticipating this world where you've got the whole Senate bill thing and maybe that works Maybe it doesn't but it's kind of likely that we'll have to figure out one way or another to govern ourselves and in that world If you've got a member institution that's completely flying in the face of your authority I mean it it's kind of like a prison guard. You know what it's like. It's like Frank Lucas I was telling Jesse this earlier today You've seen American gangster the many of you who have you remember Denzel sitting at that breakfast table with his family and his cousins and his nephews and all of them are sitting around them and they're like 18-19 years old and They're sitting in Harlem in the 1970s and it there goes Idris Elba down the street running his mouth again And what does Denzel do? He says excuse me for a second and he gets up and he walks out of the cafe and he walks up to Idris Elba And he puts a pistol to his head and he pulls the trigger The point is when he puts the pistol to Idris Elba's head You're thinking to yourself. Okay, well surely he's not about to do the boom. He does it and it's pretty shocking Because there's almost no hesitation and there was no. Oh, is he gonna do it? Is he gonna do it? Oh, he put the gun away. It was one of those moments So is the SEC really gonna go Denzel American gangster? I don't think so But I think Denzel was gonna do that either Jesse Jesse probably hadn't seen the movie press I know you've seen the movie. Yeah, I didn't think he was gonna do it either in that movie, but he did and Then Idris Elba goes on to become regional manager of Dunder Mifflin for a little while in later seasons of the office. Shout out Charles Miner But you got to understand they look at it and They are of the mentality that we don't even care if he rostered the players. We don't care at this point You got the Chris Lowe tweet from earlier today Bradley because I think Chris Lowe kind of captured the crux of what the issue is This is him earlier today if you're listening on podcast Chris Lowe said a telling part of the SEC's filing is this part quote They expressed great concern that lsu president ruse and athletic director outspairy have no meaningful control over coach kiffin or the football program at lsu For those of you who don't know what they're saying there. That's them saying the governor's running the football program and High level politicians in Louisiana are running the football program Now this wouldn't be the first time that those themes have woven their way into college athletics in Louisiana and beyond what they're saying is It's beyond the pale at this point and if we're going to govern ourselves. We can't govern a member institution Who's governing mechanisms that are supposed to be in place aren't really in charge and then you've got a head coach down there Who's out of control? That's kind of the way they look at it. So it's not as simple as just did you or did you not roster the players? It's kind of lack of institutional control. That's what they're alleging there. Those aren't my words. That's what they're alleging there One thing I do know is this is far from over. So we got a lot of ball to talk tonight, but as far as football goes I will say this I Know going in the last week's game Clemson at LSU. There's a lot of outside talk about distractions. Would this be a distraction? I was at LSU Friday. I was around that coaching staff and with that team a lot Friday and It really was hammered home when you get to experience at firsthand. How much the opposite was true? How much the outside stuff had galvanized that team and as long as Lane Kiffin's the head coach of LSU and this stuff's going on outside The walls of that football program. I Promise you it will galvanize that team. Come what may legally. So I don't think LSU slowing down anytime soon on the football field this year I have no idea what's about to happen in the courtroom and beyond And in a perfect world. I wouldn't have to care. They don't tread on Saturday tour presented by Jimmy John's It's a delicious matchup They didn't tell me to say that but i'm saying it anyway. It's a very delicious matchup. We'll be there Friday For busing with paint on campus. We'll be there on the sidelines Saturday for the game itself and on one hand I've got Venables versus Underwood Don't love that for Michigan And on one hand, I've got Oklahoma elite kicker. They've got full belief in John Mateer, Kyle Wittingham's openly questioning his quarterback, Western Michigan's asking for their win back last week. But then again, Randy Travis's hit song was not on one hand, it was on the other hand. And on the other hand, there's a golden band, but also on the other hand, this is college football. Stuff never makes sense like that. Stuff never works out week to week the way it is, quote, unquote, supposed to. So I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that Michigan's not about to get run out of their own building Saturday. If I believed that, I wouldn't go to the game. So let's break it down because this is very going to be a very difficult path for Michigan. I'm not saying it's not going to be. What's the path for Bryce Underwood here? Really weird situation. See, 10 years ago, it was, you know, not abnormal for a highly touted quarterback to come in and struggle early. But it's 2026. So these days, you've got quarterbacks who have signed three or eight figure deals who are coming in. If they struggle, no one has kid gloves when they deal with them. This is very much like a rookie at the NFL. We drafted you in the first round. We're paying you a ton of money. You have to produce. If you don't, we'll fire you. We'll get someone else. That's kind of the attitude folks that Michigan have about Bryce Underwood. The fan base does. I'll show you what Wittingham said here. He said earlier, I think it was yesterday. He said, he's our quarterback right now. And it's not something that's infinite. At some point, we've got to turn the corner and see improvement as you do with a bunch of other stuff. And he went on to say, it's not just Bryce Underwood. We got to do a better job. You know the thing. But this is the worst possible position to be in. If you're a quarterback trying to find your way, is let me check the schedule. Western Michigan in the rearview mirror. Oh, cool. Oklahoma. That ought to be fun. I'll figure some things out against Brent Vendible's in Oklahoma. It's the kind of setting that could get ugly. And I think you guys know what I mean by that. Because if you come into this game, and it is nine to nothing, Oklahoma, and there goes another Michigan three and out. There goes another pass in the dirt. There goes another Bryce Underwood in completion. And it's midway through the second quarter. And there's no traction. You know what's happening. Boos are probably happening. And it could get really ugly. And I don't envy that position. I don't care how much money you get paid. But outside of their opening drive last week against Western Michigan, their longest drive was seven plays 29 yards. Like there's nothing to hang your hat on. That's the drive chart there. It's Sarah McLaughlin stuff. Oh, it's terrible. So I think there's a path here, but man, they're going to have to create a formula that's able to scratch out 20 points. Like to me, you got to go into this thing. And you got to say, we're going to trust our defense. We're going to trust our back being against the wall in our home building. And if we can find a way to scratch out 20, maybe we tack on a defensive score, a special team score. But if we could scratch out 20, we're just going to trust that we made ourselves a good enough path. So offensive line and running back have to step up here because they really, especially the run game did not last week. Hider and Marshall combined for 16 carries and 59 yards last week, which I actually think stands out to me more so than Underwood's stat line. I think Underwood has to be handled in this game. The way that Oklahoma handled John Mateer last year. And by that, I mean, 19 carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns. That's what John Mateer did on the ground in this game last year. We were there. He was a force to be reckoned with in the ground game last year. Look, I'll go step further. I'd handle him like he was Haynes King. If I was Michigan, I, I know Haynes King was a battering ram last year. And at times you watched and you said, "Man, this is almost like an irresponsible amount of times to run a guy buddy. When I'm paying you the amount I'm paying Bryce Underwood, I'll handle you any way I want. I'll call plays any way I want until you show me that you could be a game changer through the air. I'm going to get what I can out of you offensively on the ground. And that needs to be, that needs to be what Underwood's line looks like this year. What Mateer's line looked like last year. RPO needs to actually be RPO last year or last weekend rather. You know, RPO stands for run pass option. But last last weekend, it was kind of like a handoff pass option, like a Hopo, as Mima would call it. There was no threat of Bryce Underwood keeping the ball and running. It was kind of stupid to watch the way it looks on film. Just look at the TV copy. Don't watch film. It's like no one even respects that he could keep the ball. Now there is a world where Michigan went into the game thinking that we're going to hand a western Michigan and said, yeah, he's not running the ball today. Cause he's going to run it a lot next week. Yeah, okay. So let's let that come to fruition. I guess is my ask. How many points does Oklahoma need here? If you had to guess, let's say for the sake of argument, although I know this is not how football works. Let's say we knew no special teams in defensive scoring for Michigan. How many points does owe you need? The implied total, if you look at them minus five and a half over under 43 and a half, you're talking about what Jesse like 24 19 something like that. I think if if no non offensive scoring, I think 21 is enough for Oklahoma and maybe less than that. But I've got to think they go into it and it's a really good test for Oklahoma's ground game because they're just coming off the U-TEP game. So they haven't faced stiff competition at all. They're going to go on the road here. They couldn't run the ball last year. They think they've improved there. Have they improved there? Or is it a situation where yeah, Michigan's not really doing much offensively, but hey, neither is Oklahoma and here we are going into the half and it's six to three. Cause neither team can run the ball and neither quarterback can really be trusted or neither coaching staff from a play calling perspective is trusting their quarterback to put the ball in the air. Is that the way it works? Or does our buckle and his staff trust material enough to go up here and turn it loose? Cause I do think the one thing I'm cautious of with him and no one owns more John Matier stock than me up to and including his parents. But the one thing I'm cautious of is him being baited into some hero throws, Q blicks words, not mine. But if he gets baited into that, you know, there is a world where if you're a Michigan fan, you're watching this thing at some point during the game Saturday, saying I'm kind of in a hurry for our offense to get off the field. I think our better shot at scoring is with our defense on the field. And that's kind of the way that would go. Red zone scoring is huge here. It always is. But Western Michigan, the one thing Michigan did last week is they held Western Michigan to two of three in the red zone for six points. So Oklahoma offensively last year, number one red zone scoring percentage in the country. They cash in when they get down there and they got a lot of the same pieces back. So their offensive identity is when they get their shots, they cash in Michigan. Here's what's interesting. So Michigan was 105th in that category last year, but they got a whole new staff in and that staff at Oklahoma or Utah, rather was 14th in the country last year. So this is the game we're going to be at. Let's take a look at what the model thinks. Fandals got Oklahoma minus five and a half. The model has Oklahoma minus five and a half. So it thinks that this number is dead on the money. I think it's going to be a very competitive game. I do not think it's going to be a blow out. I am not on board with the popular sentiment on this game right now. But having said that, I still do think over four quarters. Oklahoma is going to end up getting enough margin here. And again, I don't know what that even means. That can mean 20 to nine. Like I don't know what margin. What number you have to have on the board to get margin. I do think Oklahoma will end up finding a way to get it and cover that number. So I know it's going to be a really public side there, but I'm going to slightly lean Oklahoma to win and cover. I know that's not bold. Can we find some Michigan money line better? So that would be bold. Speaking of Michigan. Do you remember last Saturday? You remember when all of a sudden during the LSU Clemson game, there were other games going on. And you didn't necessarily plan on watching Western Michigan versus Michigan. But as that game's closer, as it's going from third quarter to fourth quarter, as it's midway through the fourth quarter, as you realize, wait, Michigan's got one more shot here. Everyone was tuned into it, especially as the LSU game became a blow out. You remember how that game ended? And you remember, there's a Hail Mary attempt and then there's Triple Z rows on the clock. But then note that's not Triple Z rows. You just have the wrong clock. Cool. That's awesome. That's wonderful. And then Michigan gets another shot and they score a walkoff touchdown. You remember that? Yeah. Everyone watched it and thought at least somewhat it was screwed up. Many people cried outright conspiracy. Many people thought Western Michigan got robbed. Pretty much everyone was unhappy with the explanation, immediately on television. And then about two hours later, the big 10 released, you know, what equated to television copy of their review process. And the Mac accepted it. Now I had tons of problems with it and I echoed those or I shared those on the Sunday show. Many of you felt the same way. But you'll be shocked to learn. My inbox filled up with some Michigan folks who told me I need to shut up because the Mac accepted the explanation from the big 10. So if the Mac accepted the explanation, what more Does anyone owe you until today when the Mac came out and said replay protocol was not properly followed in the Western Michigan Michigan game and the league has filed a formal appeal with the NCAA FBS oversight committee to be recognized as the winner. They have their whole statement there yet. So it turns out not so much. It turns out Western Michigan went home thought about it and they're still pretty upset. And the Mac as well is pretty upset and they think they got robbed because protocol was not followed. In the least shocking follow up headline ever, you will be, well, I don't know if you'll be happy or not to learn that the NCAA has no authority. The only thing the NCAA has authority to do is suspend Aryan Carter and people who have $400 plane tickets misappropriated to them outside of that. They really have no authority. So Pete and Echoes a little later today from the NCAA quote, NCAA rules do not have a protocol for overturning the outcome of a game. And there's that. Then the big 10 came out and said, yeah, we're not commenting any further. So Michigan's probably not in the playoff conversation this year, see me after Saturday. But in the event that they are, I wonder how the committee would look at this down the road because we saw the AP voters drop them out of the top 25 more on that later. But I wonder how the playoff committee would look at this. How do you look at it? Like if you were a playoff committee member, let's say down the road, Michigan's nine and one. Are they nine and one or are they eight and two? Like how do you view that or maybe it's Western Michigan that ends up in the playoff bubble. That's a really good team as you saw the other day. So let's say Lance Taylor has the boys there on the cusp of making the playoff. Do you view them as an undefeated team or do you view them as a one loss team? Does he goes up there, I think, or I think, yeah, I think Boise goes to Kalamazoo in a couple of weeks. Also Memphis goes to Boise. There's some really big G6 football coming up, which I feel the duty to inform you of as G6 Josh. But it's not missing the core issue here. I'm going to go back since this has given me an excuse for just a second and go back to sharing with you some of the dumbest feedback in the history of the modern era that I've gotten on this subject. I'm going to spare you the screenshots. I did screenshot a lot of it, but I'm going to spare you the screenshots. But I go back to the issue of transparency. Why is transparency important or to be even finer about it? What had me so upset about this is the lack of transparency. I'm not going full conspiracy mode on you. I never said the big 10 doctor in any footage. I never said the game was fixed. It was nothing. I don't believe that. And I do believe what the big 10 provided in the two-hour aftermath of the game was their legitimate review process. But that's not the end of the story. I had a lot of Michigan folks come at me and say, "Look, they showed you the way it works. What more do you need? What more I need is for them to not have to wait two hours because there's full transparency and we get it immediately." Because here's the problem, which I assumed was very apparent, but it's not, I guess, to some people, if you and I are to race against each other, and your uncle is at the finish line as the record keeper, we're off, and I beat you. Your uncle's pissed because he wanted you to win. What if your uncle comes out 20 minutes after I won the race and he says, "Turns out some of this paperwork wasn't filled out the right way," so my nephew is the winner. The end. No appeals process. You could pull out the rulebook and show me where technically the paperwork's supposed to be filled out the right way. Here's the problem. Why didn't you tell me before the race started that the paperwork was filled out improperly? Problem there is that you may have unequal application of rules, or to draw it back to this football game, if you wait two hours after the result to show me your review process, what I can never know is whether that same review process would have been exhausted to no end if it were Western Michigan that heaved up the Hail Mary because you're not doing it where we can see it as it's happening. The ACC's figured this out. See, this doesn't happen in the ACC because in the ACC, I'm watching the review process play out in real time, but in the Big Ten's case, I think they're doing it on the Friday games, but this wasn't a Friday game and so I'm left to just have to believe that you would have applied that either way. The point is it's unnecessary. I'm not a big conspiracy theory guy. I believe what the Big Ten says, but a lot of other people don't and it's foolish that you even give oxygen to that when you could press a button right now and do what the ACC does and show us the review process. I want to remind everyone, these are not people discussing nuclear secrets. It's people reviewing plays in sports in a football game. There's no reason for it to be hidden away from public view. And if you tell me there is, I ask, show me a reason, show me information that you need to remain hidden. It could create a bigger mess than the mess you created by hiding in their silence. It's been a great week on those fronts. Back to the show. Good pace, Jesse. The undercut hit after all. The control room, disrespectfully, sets an over-under on how long each show is going to take. I am not aware. I'm basically Western Michigan and they're writing the big 10 rulebook in there. I got no clue what it says. I do not know what the total is. I have strong reason to believe it's around an hour 15 tonight due to sources, but I don't know for sure. Anyway, we continue. Ohio State at Texas. Some are saying it's the game of the week. Some are saying it may be the game of the year. Either way, it's Saturday 7/30 Eastern time from Austin, Texas, presented by a quick trip. You know, a lot of you are driving to this game. Slice the pizza in a big queue along the way. I don't want to tell you how to live your life, but you can get it for four bucks. Maybe even $3 if you download the app. Ohio State wants this game. I'm told, Texas needs this game. I'm telling you. So I don't always do though, who needs it more? Who's it bigger for? This is a bigger game for Texas. There's a lot more ride on it. There's a lot more proof of concept that's needed from the Texas Longhorns and Steve Sarkiesian than there is from the Ohio State Buckeyes. I'm going to go ahead and say this and get it out of the way because I'm not going to break it down any further. Tide end is the most overlooked facet in this matchup for both teams. Tide end is an integral part, Tide end usage, personnel sets, Tide end, very, very much factors into both of these offenses. I don't want people to say that I didn't mention Tide end. Certain parties especially would say that. So Tide end, Tide end, Tide end. Spotlight moment for both quarterbacks. Very, very apparent here. Julian Sayon, Archmaning, both of them have a ton expected from them this year. Both of them were on the field last year and didn't do much of anything. Production wise, it was a tough day. This was a week one game last year and it was tough sledding. So both offensive lines could be a net disadvantage relative to who they're matching up against in this game. And therefore, I don't know, I'll get into it in a second. I don't know that either team is just going to rip off chunk yardage in the ground game. It could happen. It could. I would be shocked, but it could happen. Go on that later as I said, but if I'm right about that, and if it's tough to run the ball in this game, passing game's going to decide this. Namely those big time wide receivers are going to decide this. There's no reason to overthink the room here. When you got Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo, when you got Jeremiah Smith on the other side, McEwen, Mosley, like a lot of those dudes, when you've got players like that, Chris Henry's on the field in this game, those are take over players. And I know a lot of these tailbacks are talented, but those are the game changing, cat busting type players. And in a game where the total is 48 and a half, and I could see that thing flying under that, it's one or two big cat buster type plays here. You know the kind of game where you're lulled into a false sense of security. And it's kind of like the Ohio State Miami game, although Ohio State lost that game. You remember when all of a sudden they hit Jeremiah Smith? It gives you this impending sense of doom like, oh, here comes Ohio State. Here we go. They're off to the races. Texas can do that stuff. Ohio State can do that stuff and they've both got the personnel specifically to do that stuff. I'm keeping an eye on Ohio State's rushing success early in this game. Four quarters notwithstanding, but like early in this game, because if you're good enough, you can run the ball on anyone. And I don't know if Ohio State looks at this offensive line and says dominant road graders across the board. Maybe they do think that. But I absolutely, if I'm Ohio State, look at this running back room and I say, those dudes are good enough to run on anyone. And there's a lot of versatility here. Like you put bow jacks on the field and you put legend bay on the field. And if I could just combine them into one, I got a Swiss Army knife that can do every single you would ever ask a tail back to do. So Texas State last week, I understand this is not a one-to-one comparison, but it's all we have to go on. Texas State last week had 161 yards against Texas, they had 41 carries, they couldn't do anything through the air, but if Ohio State sitting there at, you know, four and a quarter yards per play or yards per carry, I feel really good about it. I could get by on like 3.94 yards per carry. If they're in that neighborhood, I feel comfortable that they're doing enough on the ground to where everything about that offense, everything from a balance of play calling standpoint for Arthur Smith, it's there and I'm good and I'm comfortable that Ohio State has not bogged down offensively. On the other side with Texas, like there are some edges Texas has here, I have, I would say mild to moderate concern with their ability to run the ball consistently. They last week were tackled at or behind the line of scrimmage 11 times. Horka, I think Tyler Horka was the one who found that stout or found that stout. I mean, it was there on the film, but he's the one who compiled it. They didn't use arch in the ground game last week. Of course, they will in this game. So like I said, it's not a one-to-one, it's not an apples-to-apples, but there's portal rankings and then there's proof. From a portal ranking standpoint, when you get Hollywood smothers and Relique Brown, that's as good as you could have possibly done in the portal of that position. But now it's time to prove the value. Now it's time for those guys to show up in a big way against Ohio State. If they don't, it's just portal rankings don't really mean anything. Could be a false alarm. Texas could have a great day on the ground here. I just think both of these offensive lines, but especially Texas's offensive line has a lot to prove here, because there's potential. Potential has to become production. And if it doesn't happen in a game like this, Bradley, show me Texas is scheduled for a second. The problem with Texas and having not seen them do it at a high level is if they don't do it against Ohio State, nobody cares what they do the next week. Of course, they're going to run the ball with some degree of success against UTSA. It won't matter because you'll just say to yourself, man, eventually we're going to play Oklahoma. Like eventually we got to go to LSU. If we make the playoff, or if we go to Atlanta, we know we're eventually going to play Georgia. And if it's just always there, it just feels like you're sprinting towards a brick wall. If they knocked the wall down this Saturday, you start to feel confident that we ran the ball with a fair amount of success against Ohio State. And that's early in the year, we'll only get better. That's the kind of thing you're looking for here. Author Smith, the office coordinator there at Oklahoma or at Ohio State versus Will Muschamp. Really good matchup. Really good matchup. That's a career college guy versus almost a career NFL guy. Matt Patricia versus Steve Sarkieson. We saw that last year at Vanage, Matt Patricia. There's a distinct possibility in this game that defenses end up clamping down a little bit and taking over. Maybe not to the extreme degree of last year's game, but there's that opportunity. If that happens, it's something that leads me to look at the Texas pass rush and say that is a unit would take over potential. Like that's the one where I wonder if Ohio State ends up having an edge running the ball. Is it enough to balance it out where they can keep guys guessing and they're not in a lot of obvious pass downs. But if I'm wrong and they are and Texas has the ability, like Texas is the kind of team that has the ability to completely take over a game defensively. And Ohio State may be that as well. Very well may be. The difference is the two year-over-year attrition cycles for Ohio State from the NFL draft perspective. That hasn't hit this Texas team yet. So this Texas team's built to do it right now. And I think back to last year, really the last couple of the years as you're trying to envision how this game goes. And I got to think Texas noticed what Miami was able to do to Ohio State. Yeah. Miami, when they finally sunk their teeth in against that offensive line, it was tough. It was tough because they really got after Julian's say into a point where there was no rhythm that they could ever settle into. A couple of big plays, but they weren't really able to do anything. And I guarantee you Texas looks at that and says we got those kinds of guys. We absolutely have the ability to do that. But you know what I think Ohio State does is I think they feel the exact same way when they look and they see what George has done to Texas the last few times they faced him. Because I guarantee you Ohio State looks and says boy that level of physicality, personnel too, but the level of physicality, the attention to detail, the execution, the constantly being assignment sound, we can do that to them. In their building, in our building, anywhere, we can do that to them. I'm going to show you what the model thinks. Fandall has Texas minus one and a half right now, which implies on a neutral field, Ohio State minus one or so, maybe one and a half, the model has this at a pick them. So I said in the spring when I started looking at this game, I'm going to side with Texas in this game. And I'm not really going to care what the model thinks. Reason being, I just think the desperation piece along with Homefield matters enough to where I'm going to go that way unless I see something drastic in week one that alters my opinion. And I didn't see anything drastic in week one that altered my opinion. So I think this is a very, very tight game. Can see it going either way. I have an ever so slightly into Texas with minimum confidence. I do wonder if there's a lot of result either way here. Because we always say, oh, it's going to be a close game. It's going to be a great game. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it's not. If there's a lot of side of game, hey Jesse, if you were told, someone's going to win this thing by 16 plus. Who would you think it is? You think Texas, huh? I don't know. Maybe it just won't happen. But I think I may agree with you. But then again, I have trouble seeing someone do that to Ohio State. So who knows? We will be watching that game together and reacting someday in the meantime. You know what I got in my hand? I have the week two AP poll in my hand. The week two AP poll has been delivered to me actually in that ram truck right there. Look at it. Love ram. Loved them since Twister. Still do today. Yes, ram is presenting the AP poll reaction. There is the way you should think. And then there is the way an AP voter thinks. I don't know if they're still teaching this in public school, but they should. There are ways to think. There are right and wrong ways to think. And I'm about to show you an example of the wrong way to think, kids. LSU. You saw them last week. They took Clemson and they tossed them straight into a woodchipper. And what do you get for that? Ranked eighth in the AP poll. Drugs. That's the only explanation. LSU lower than three should get you a prison sentence. If we're really being serious and I know the AP poll is not taken as seriously and I know that this doesn't matter in the grand scheme of the playoff rankings, but you got to remember at the end of the day, it's all people ranking teams. Okay. And as much as I'd love to totally dismiss this, it's this style of thinking that bothers me because this style of thinking kind of permeates its way into the playoff room as well. So I'm looking through the AP ballots today. Knowing I just watched a borderline hate crime get committed by LSU and it's Clemson the other night. And I'm thinking they may be number one. If they're not number one, they're top three. Like I would have lost a lot of money today. If I had to bet on the AP poll side note, not offered by Fandall, I would have lost a lot of money. I would have sworn to you. They're no lower than three. If they were third, I would have argued. LSU is ranked eighth in this poll. There was a ballot in the state of Illinois. I don't want to single this people out because we got that one lady some heat last year. There was a ballot in Illinois that had him 12th. There was one in San Diego that had him 14th. The 51 to 10 victor in week one is ranked 14th. There was a ballot in Maryland that had him 16th. This dude in Maryland, I think it was a dude had LSU behind Penn State. I got no problem with Penn State. I do have a problem with Penn State being ranked ahead of LSU right now. I can't be on merit. So I don't know what it's based on. I'll tell you what it's based on. Preseason expectations, which are fine. This goes back to the right and wrong way to think. I am a fan of preseason polls. I do my own. I always laugh at people when they say we've got to abolish preseason rankings and polls because they muddy the water and it takes too long for people to divorce their opinions that they have in preseason. Yeah, that's true. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have preseason polls. It just means people need to learn to divorce themselves from their preseason opinions once games happen. So maybe you had LSU 20th coming into the year. I don't care. Once you watch what they did, etch a scale. edge, wipe it clean. We've actually got results instead of just believe some expectations based on nothing. So that's crazy. George is the number two team in the country. You like, okay, wait for it. What's he going to say here? Nothing. George is a really good team. I just question how they don't have a single first place vote. Georgia is the only team in the top eight without a single first place vote, which is a statement normally reserved for the number eight team. Normally if you're number two and seven different teams have first place votes at least one of those first place votes is going to the number two team. Nope. Nope, because there is still that hard and fast rule etched in stone somewhere that SEC team are not going to win the national title, but people are even relenting on that a little bit because Texas got first place votes unless you got first place votes unless you got five first place votes to Georgia's zero, but LSU is ranked six spots behind Georgia. Again, drugs, drugs, drugs, drugs, explain Oregon and Texas tech to me. Organs at number six, Texas tech is at number 13. Follow me here. Oregon starts the season number two. They play possibly the best G 16 in the country beat them by seven and they drop to six. And I suppose the explanation there is, well, we watched Oregon and they struggled so we got to drop them. Dumb on the surface. However, let's apply that same logic to number 13, Texas tech who struggled and slept walked against Abelian Christian in a game I know none of you watched. Don't lie and say otherwise. And since you didn't pay attention, you just glanced at the final score, which was 33 to 10, I think they were favor by 45, mind you. And you didn't drop Texas tech at all. So this, this results based thinking how it's selectively applied. Here's the thing Oregon should have done. Oregon should have scheduled a community college from the greater Portland area and one by 100 and that'd be fine. Again, I hear what you're saying. You're saying you get worked up about this over nothing. This poll doesn't matter. I know this poll doesn't matter. This way of thinking does matter. It's the same thing with Washington and Tennessee. Washington plays a rivalry game in week one against Washington state. They win by two touchdowns and drop beneath Tennessee because Tennessee had a hard fought winning as Ferman. Tennessee's got an opponent this week in Georgia tech. They've got a chance to prove themselves against P4 competition this week. You dropped Washington and I know why you did because a lot of you lazily turned that game on maybe second quarter, maybe third quarter and you saw they hadn't pulled away yet and forgot that it's a four quarter game. And so demand, demand Williams eventually took over. But by then it's like you've already penciled in. I got to drop Washington a little bit. Why? Why stop judging teams and vacuums and judge them against the field? Washington should be dropping it all. Virginia is off of 46 ballots. They're 25th. So they got by the grace of God, Virginia, 10 win from a season to go Virginia, who completely steamrolled NC state, you know, in other words, a legit opponent in week one. The AP finds it in the kindness of their heart to, you know, like grant them a 25th ranking. It's so insane. How do you watch what Virginia did in the absence of a full body of work from any of these other teams to say, you know where I'm think Virginia still belongs behind Iowa or Utah? Like I don't get it. I never have. I will say I am the problem. Or maybe I've removed myself from being the solution because we did turn down an opportunity to be an AP poll voter this year because I just knew that I was eventually going to entrust Jesse to do it. And I thought Jesse may make a mockery of the entire process that would have been the outlier ballot that had Penn State number two this week because they handled Marshall so thoroughly. But I think the LSU ranking is utterly insane. I think it's really funny that Georgia's number two would not a single first place vote. Oregon Texas Tech dynamic makes no sense. Virginia at 25 makes no sense. I think our boy Ralph Russo had him 15th. Good on Ralph Russo. And the messaging sucks because here's the messaging. All these AP poll voters would say the same thing if I put a mic in their face. Do you want more premiere out of conference games or less? Oh, we want more. These teams need to schedule up. Team schedules up. Winds closer than they're supposed to. Drop them. Drop them. Why cause Tennessee beat Farman. That's why those Texas tech beat Abilene Christian. That's why I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. What I love is that we are around turn four in the design contest in the paint state store. I don't want to influence the vote. But I will say I have purchased one of these shirts myself and it is in the top five. I will say that. So a few weeks ago, we did design contest, a design contest. This is a 330 Eastern time kickoff. It is presented by Fan Duel, which reminds me Alabama is a 10 and a half point favorite. We're gonna do this again. We're gonna favor Kaelin DeBore on the road by double digits. Okay, Kaelin DeBore is a ranked favorite on the road. Does anyone wanna guess? Seven and five straight up as a double digit favorite on the road. Four and eight against the spread as a ranked favorite on the road. Four and eight against the spread. Seven and five straight up. But you know what, what always has been does not have to be what is. So maybe this is a new gear that Alabama hits. They're catching Kentucky in week two. That's a little bit different than catching Kentucky in week 10. Just from a health standpoint, like Kentucky, they're overrun to win total was what, Jesse? Like four and a half or three and a half or something? Four and a half. Okay, maybe Kentucky's on their way to be in a five and 17, but they don't know that yet. Even if they're bad, they don't know that yet. So that place is gonna be as jacked as it would be as if they were a top 10 team. 'Cause you know what they are? Undefeated. So both quarterbacks here are in their second career start. Kenny Menci at Kentucky, Kaelin Russell at Alabama. There is a lot to like about what we saw from Alabama last week. There is a lot to still question about what we saw from Alabama last week. So operationally, if you watch the game, instead of just watching the highlights, you know what I mean. Like there were several times where you're like, this just doesn't feel clean. It feels a little discombobulated, man. Good thing it's East Carolina. Instead of a premier opponent, 'cause this would cost them today. That's why you scheduled the way they did in week one. It's not something you can afford to do while you're breaking in a young quarterback on the road. Like that stuff's gotta be cleaned up this week. We'll see if it is Ryan Coleman Williams, couple of big drops last week. I don't know if gloves will be on the hands this week. The drops didn't matter last week. They very much matter in a game like this. They very much matter in conference play. But as much as there were some things that, you know, can't be happened in over and over again, that defense is legit and that can happen over and over again and should happen over and over again. Kaelin Russell and his ability to extend plays when the play's break down. That translates. I think that'll scale against any form of competition. It's gonna be a really big spot for these tailbacks. I mean, last week you got a taste of Brown. You got a taste of E.J. Cruel. I think especially for Cruel. I think they've probably been bringing him back from injury with this date in mind. And I think you could see, not exclusively him. I mean, they got enough tailbacks that can get the job done. But I think you'll see him featured a pretty hefty amount this Saturday as much as he shows that you can trust him. That's how much he'll be featured. So Kentucky, they look good last week against Youngstown State. Mention was 18 of 27, a little over 300, four touchdowns, no picks. My whole question with them offensively is like, how balanced can they be in this game? Because it seems like, if I'm K and Wal-Mac. And he always comes to me for defensive advice. I'm sure he's listening right now. But if I'm him, I'll look at Kentucky's wide receivers. And I know what I got in my secondary. I don't think they can match up. Don't think so. I've been fooled before, but I don't think so. So what I'm gonna do is trust that. I'm gonna trust I got one of the best secondaires in the country. And I'm gonna trust that I can afford to trust them enough to where I'm not gonna let this ground game start churning on me. I'm not about to watch them go five of seven on third down in the first quarter and have some of these critical box score metrics tilt against me to the point where my defense is on the field. 83rd play, 84th play by the time the fourth quarter rolls around. I can't have that. So as much as there's a focus on Keelan Russell in this game. Man, Kenny Menchi versus this defense, that's actually the matchup to me. That's the more important matchup because Menchi is not nearly as dangerous once the thing breaks down as Keelan Russell is. They're in different galaxies as far as that's concerned. So Alabama held East Carolina last week to 0 of 9 on third down. BAM offensively was 8 of 15 on third down. So that's the category. Those are the couple of categories to me that you got a circle here. If Kentucky heats up Alabama, we're pressure. What I wonder after watching Keelan Russell last week is, you know, does he still have that breakaway extend scramble ability against an SEC opponent? Also can he hit passes with pressure in his face because he's got to match up advantage if he can. Can he do it? I think Kentucky will make him pay to find out. And also, if the Kentucky run isn't there, do they have wide receiver talent that can separate, that can make plays? Let's take a look at what the model thinks here because I've, well, I'll tell you what I'm about to do in a second. The fan dual number is BAM a minus 10 and a half. The model has Alabama minus 11 and a half. So the model slightly leans Alabama. I can't quite get there yet because I know what their profile has been in these kinds of spots under the bore on the road so far. Now, if they're going to play Georgia, that's fine. They'll take care of business. But they're going to play Kentucky here as a 10 and a half point favorite. That offensive line has not proven itself yet. That ground game hasn't fully proven itself yet. This is a quarterback getting his first start on the road in conference play. Kentucky, even if they're going to be bad down the road, they don't know they're bad yet. Maybe they won't be bad. Maybe they'll be good. Will Stein's a very, very good coach. I think he'll have them prepared. I remember when we went up to Oregon last year, I sat in Will Stein's offensive meetings. Do he seem like a head coach them? And it was so funny how like everybody in that offensive room. If he stopped talking, they could finish his sentences. He had guys so prepared. Everyone was so in sync. There was a full understanding of what he was talking about, of what he was asking, of what he was teaching. I don't know how much of that's implemented at Kentucky yet, but like I'm buying huge stock in them long term. I think Alabama is going to win this game. I think it could possibly be a dog fight. So if I've got 10 and a half on the board, I would link Kentucky plus the points. And I'd win. I'd lean Alabama to win the game. I don't feel like there was something on my head. You know what the worst thing that could happen, Jesse, is I sit here for an extended period of time and a spider drops down. Not a huge fear of my lightning is a huge fear of mine. But I don't know anyone who likes spiders. And what would happen? I got no defense out here. What would happen? And the people on podcast wouldn't even know what was going on. What were the biggest overreactions after college football week one? If I had to pin you down, which I tried to do earlier today because I asked you guys on Twitter, I got several responses here. I'm going to save the best for last. But let me take a look at some of these responses. So Micah said the biggest overreaction is people taking LSU's the best team in the country. Fair. Fair. I wouldn't have a problem if you ranked them number one. But if you ranked them number one, but you said, oh, I think Indiana or Ohio State or Texas or whoever, they may eventually prove it against superior competition. Just LSU had their first crack at it in week one. Yeah, I would get that. If you really do think LSU's the best team in the country, who knows? You may be right. But I understand wanting to pump the brakes on that a little bit because it could be week six and Clemson is just secret garbage. I think that's a Dan Rubenstein phrase that I heard him say a long time ago. Like you never know. You never know. We've had some words about that that we'll listen to in a couple of minutes. But another big reaction or maybe even an overreaction from the Michigan side of this Tyler said one of the big overreactions is Michigan will lose to Oklahoma by four plus touchdowns. I'm going to read what he said here because I think he's right. Do we really expect Michigan to play as bad as they did in week one? No. No, I don't. I think they could play good and still lose no Tyler, but I agree with you. I, our buddy Chase Daniel said, this is a lock. He didn't say lock, but he insinuated lock. I don't know if I'm that confident. I'm going to go witness this in person. I'm going to, I'm going to have to see it for myself. Maybe Oklahoma goes in there and just dog walks him. If they do, you know what? Oklahoma probably won't even get the credit they deserve if they do it. I'm going to have to see it. So I do agree with that. I do agree. It's an overreaction to expect Oklahoma blow out. Next up, I love overreactions. Our buddies over at college football, Paul said a big overreaction is that Oregon is overrated. Yeah. What are they rated? First off, apparently not as high as they used to be in the AP poll. Oregon's overrated. You know what? The lesson learned here is don't schedule boys in week one. That's about the only lesson that I would have learned here. Oregon's going to be fine. I would, I can't prove this. I would imagine if this game were scheduled for November, the outcome would look a little bit different. I don't want to burst any bubbles. Oregon's really good. Oregon's gonna be in the national championship picture. They are now in the national championship picture. Oregon being overrated like okay, they're gonna go to Oklahoma State this week. And eventually a couple of weeks from now, they're gonna go to USC. Let's just wait, let's just see how they look against USC. I still think Oregon's gonna be a big factor in this thing. So I do agree that's an overreaction. Next up, here we go. Campus rundown CFB said an overreaction is the SEC is back to being the best because they went 16 to no. Now Jesse, you gotta tell me 'cause you scroll the internet a lot more than I do. Are people saying this? Are people saying the SEC's fully back up? Are they putting out the word? They are a little bit saying this. Okay, if they're saying it, I would say that's a slight overreaction. All right, Bradley confirms. It's there, they're back. I would say that's a slight overreaction. I saw the same things you guys did. I did see A&M dominate Missouri State. I did see Vandy labor to a win against Austin P. Look, no one was more impressed with what Oklahoma did to you, tap than me. I understand the threat that Arkansas Pine Bluff posed when they rolled in against drinking the boys in Columbia. Absolutely, UL Monroe could have pushed Mississippi State to the limit but didn't. Very impressive, very impressive. Maybe the SEC ends up being the best, but that week one slate is not where the SEC was going to prove they're the best. This week, I'm a lot more excited because we get to see Texas Ohio State. We do get to see Oklahoma against Michigan, even if people expect it to be a blowout. I'm not one of them. You know the one I'm looking forward to? Mississippi State at Minnesota. I know it's very much off the radar, but if you think about it, that measures the relative depth of each conference and it also shows us Camario Taylor with an opportunity to run wild in Minneapolis. I'm sure that's a sentence that never came out of his mouth growing up, but yet here we are. Brandon Walker then have a lot of confidence in him. I do, I'll show you how much later. Next up, oh, we got some sound with this one. Let's see, Lewis said it's an overreaction that Dabo's reign is over. Dabo won two national titles, and I hope he remains at Clemson for the rest of his contract. How do we define reign? 'Cause I gotta tell you, if by reign, we mean a national championship contender, I think that's over for Dabo at Clemson. So I don't think that's an overreaction. Nor do I think it was an overreaction that he got asked at his press conference today, whether he regrets not making more personnel moves in the portal. I'm gonna play this sound for you. I just sit back and soak it in. - Do you regret anything about your offseason roster in the structure right now? - Chapel, you come with all these questions. I'll tell you, you're the gotcha guy. No, I don't, I don't, man. I regret being open one right now. I regret that, but no, we're, what, can you ask me at the end of the season? The season in over, I mean, we got one game, we got 11 more. Well, if we go 11 and one, you promised me you asked me that then? - Okay, good, I'll answer it, all right. But I'm not answering questions like that, you know, chapel. I know that's your role and that's in this environment, to be the guy that wants to create all the controversy and ask the controversial questions. If that's who you are, it's fine. I get it, but I'll answer that and say, we played one game, one game, all right? Did you play football? Okay, well, they give you 12 games. And at the end of the year, you count 'em up, all right? And, you know, that's when those type of questions are fair. - You all know as well as I do is there's one thing I can't stand in life, it's a gotcha guy. Can't stand 'em. Fortunately, that was not a gotcha question. It was just a garden variety, Tuesday afternoon, press conference question about the roster. I think Dabo may be on tilt a little bit. As you know, Dabo is a friend of the program. Okay, we're not throwing him under the bus. Maybe they will go 11 and one. It's not necessarily what I would predict for the Clems and Tigers right now. But yeah, that was, that was an overreaction. Clems and Drain being over as a national contender probably not an overreaction from what I can tell right now. And lastly, and leastly, at least grammatically, are good dear close personal friend, Ben Mence, street named Mencey, says that it's an overreaction that people are writing off Ole Miss. If you're listening on podcast, be glad you're listening on podcast because you cannot read how he spelled writing. But unfortunately, this is a YouTube dominant show. And there it is, right in front of God and everybody, Ben Mence, R-I-G-H-T-I-N-G. And as of 8.05 p.m. Central time, he has not deleted it and it has hundreds of replies to the reply, but he is correct. Don't be writing off Ole Miss. Don't care how you spell it.
