They should be putting, they said, stop the work immediately because that fuel should be better used for those in the country towns, for the farmers to provide produce. You do have to look after regional towns though, because they're options are limited. Like what are you saying, talking about here in the city, they've got options of the train and buses and that sort of stuff. And the regional towns, one, put aside the produce sort of things but just travel when getting around in the regional towns, they need petrol. They've got to get it there. But then you add it to the other sort of farmers who are providing our food. Price is going to skyrocket there if they can't get enough crops in and all that sort of stuff, supplied struggles. They need it. Yes, they do. What if you live in the bush and you need Jerry cans? You're all right, okay. Well, you're only going to buddies with your address. I'm talking about the morons here in the city that are filling up and taking litres and litres and litres and litres on. Don't need it. And one of the real stars of the Port Adelaide football club ahead of taking on the West Coast Eagles, and I talk of Kane Farrell. Can we appreciate your time, good morning. - Yeah, good morning boys, how are we going? - Yeah, we're going well, well done for bouncing back last week. It was a good win over Essin, and we know they've got their problems, but you were disappointing first up. It was, what was said in by your coach, Josh Carr, in the race going out? It looked like it was pretty inspirational. I just reinforced like the focus areas we answered at the wake, moving forward, which was it's our contest and our ability to be strong enough with the ball. As you've seen the wake before, we coughed up a few balls that we should have been able to hold onto. So just reinforcing that throughout the wake we focused on, on retaining the ball and letting us go to work with the ball. So, no, it is really good so far, Josh, he's all about us getting better and what we can do to improve our game. So, there's this him letting us know that he's going out back as well. - So, what happened the week before then, Canada, who like, going up against North Melbourne, was it just, it's stupid to say not ready, you're not prepared, but what's the difference in, I guess, mindset going to North Melbourne and then having to answer that challenge against Essin and? - We felt pretty prepared going into Round 1. It wasn't too much difference I felt from the wake and we just probably, as I said, we didn't cough up the ball this week. We were strong when we were getting tackled, we were stronger tackling as well. So, just little things like that, they can add up through game day when you're not switched on enough. So, I felt this way because it definitely bounced back and we were all tough enough, laid some good tackles and then we're good enough to go at him and use our handball game and kicking it. - Change the coach, is your role changed in any way, is it a shape or form? - No, Josh has kept it pretty simple for me. Same as what I've been doing previously, just wanted me to work on my leadership and keep growing the game for us, the smaller backs and working my way and to becoming more of a leader around the group. - I've seen it happen before when a new coach comes in, came that they try and completely, I guess, he eradicate what's happened before with the previous coach and as well, it's now my show, it's my ship. Instead of saying, "Right, what we're doing here is really, really good. "I'm just going to tweak it a little bit here and here and here." And then going with it there, has Josh come in with a fresh mindset as in the way you play, the way he wants you to play compared to Kenner, as he said. What boys, let's just build on this. - Yeah, he's come in and these, he's all sort of few things. Obviously, we've got all new coaching group and new terminology that we use around the club. Josh has kept it pretty simple, though. He's kept it a simple game style for us. Similar to previous years, just all sort of few things that he's on, tastes really. So I feel like we're adapting to it well and you can see on the weekend that we're starting to really play as a group now and use each other on the field. - Kane Farrell from Port Adelaide is our guest ahead of taking on the West Coast Eagles and we just remind our listeners that the game starts at 9.30 on some late range. - Perth time. - 9.30, Perth. - 9.30. - That's just rolling out of bed and you just be getting home. - Kane, just in regards to the injuries and of course you can't really worry too much about who's not there. It's next man up, I get all that. Miles Bergman will miss with an ankle or sort of send us motion. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but it looks sort of high ankle if anything. And Codham Roses, a bad hamstring. What's the mood around the group when you lose basically two of your sort of stars in if you'd sort of earmarked him. That probably being your top half doesn't. - Yeah, we've only spent a day at the club, but I feel like we've got people that we can bring in. They can help out the team as well. So some people might have to step up a bit more in their roles, but obviously disappointed to lose them to players, such quality players. So we'll just fill that through the players. We've got coming through, we've still got all the ones that will come back in. So we've still got a lot of depth in our team that we can trust people to come in and play their roles anyway. - Right now we've been, we've been talking to him, because as you can imagine, we're quite up and about over here in the West after the weekend. Not often we haven't seen it both our sides win for about 12 years. So it's, and it's going to be done. As you're prepared to handle all the weapons that West Coast have unearthed over some of. We haven't been able to say that in five or six years either. - Yeah, we're very excited. Trade Edge game is the same. So for us, it's really just getting back to what worked for us this week has been. So the doors are tough game against any team in the competition these days. So we still have to rock up and play our best for you to be able to compete and hopefully win. - They were very good on the weekend. And I'm sure you'll be dissecting them today. We sit down with a video with Josh and have a look at who their weapons are. Can we talk about the crowd over here? and you've, you know, the crowd in Adelaider. - Oh, thank you. incredibly supportive. They make noise. They're probably as more loyal to their teams than they are here in Western. Well, potfans are as passionate as you'll ever see. Exactly. How important is it for them to show up? How important is the sort of the extra man that is the crowd of Port Adelaide? Yeah. They are great supporters to have. They're very passionate. They let you know when you're playing well and they'll let you know when you're not playing well. So it makes it even better when you get there and you play well and you get a good win. So, no, they're always great when you run out and you get the cheers and you get the never-terrace part. And it always gives you goosebumps before the ball bounces. So, it doesn't bounce anymore. It was really good, Simone. You can understand that having been in that space that as the coach and we're in the media. It's just so much easier to come to work when everyone's up on the bat. I imagine if you're coaching, you know, five wins out of a hundred, Goss and you have a win. Is it harder because everyone turns up on Monday, still polexed? Well, it's in reality I suppose there's two things with, there's when you're winning all the time. I'm a free man or in the space now. We've lived that at West Coast as well. And I said this on the radio the other day. Just how tough it's been for not the players. Yep, it's been hard on them, but the staff at the club. They're just trying to enjoy what they do and be part of something that's bigger than themselves. And sometimes you work in at a footy club for less because you're passionate for the club. And it's very unique in WI because over here you're bouncing from club to club. It's just your job. But there must be 80% of the people at the work at West Coast would barrack for them. So there's a bit of love. So to say the boys win for themselves and for many is great, but for the staff at the club I think it's pretty special. Just one win is just all you need to get out of bed in a good mood. Exactly right. Well, this was a mini McWilder post game. He goes, "Released this and on this." social media and just giving you the last sort of 15, 20 seconds. What he said to the players now focusing about next week. But pretty quickly, we're turning to Port Adelaide. Because this feeling you've got, I want to make it normal. I want it to be a normal feeling, but it takes a lot of work. OK, so let's enjoy it tonight. It's a great day for the club. Right, hold on. Does that resonate with you? Is that sort of the messaging you would say after you, you know, in those tough times where you had one win, you go, "I can't." This is what it feels like? Yeah, of course. Yeah, of course. The question's going to be, is this just the pattern now? Or is that just a really good win? And you know, it's still going to have some. It's going to be a tough year. Or is there a more evidence to suggest that this can be sustainable? We're going to be more competitive. And we're going to win a lot more games this year. That's what many want is the enthusiasm of success. And that's really difficult. What comes first, your belief or evidence? And there's a bit of evidence here to back up some belief. So that's what you're going to double down on. A lot of belief came out of it. And there was some really impressive young guys, similar to the studio. But I think the most impressive thing about the win, and I think the thing that I was so bored about was just how even it was across the park. There were. Everyone contributed. There was so hard to give out votes and find a best on for West Coast. And, you know, it could have gone to five, six, seven players. But the green shoots. They. They shot on the weekend. The big boys are forward. And when you look at it, if they can stay fit and continue their development, it's going to be a pretty scary forward line in the years to come. You hope so. Yeah. And I mean, how many senior players is West Coast got? Really? There's not a lot. The guys over 28, I mean, what have you got? You know, Yo, Doug and Cole, Cripps, Kelly? It's probably eat, really. And then you got this, you know, the Baker and those types of players. So seeing the combination of the senior players, you don't win without them at the moment. And the risk is, you know, in three, four years' times, they're not there, what's underneath. And I think what we saw was a bit of both. You know, these senior players are important now, but the younger players coming through look like the draft in the last three years has been good. And, you know, hopefully the senior players can stand on the track because we just didn't get that last, or my last two or three years. We didn't get enough senior players on track. And the kids, perhaps, weren't the same talent as we're seeing now. So really exciting for the club, all bet it's one game. I'm actually more excited about Freemant on their, their start of the season and the first quarters we've seen is exactly what I thought they'd be. And I'm looking forward to seeing what they do in the next two or three weeks as well. Well, it's a problem there, first quarters for a couple of years, wasn't it? And although they've come out and said that it's not really been a focus, it's just the way it's happening. And Jesus puts in a good position. Well, I think they've played the best football out of anyone. If you had to go, who's the best, you know, the best quarters we've seen? It's probably Freemantles two first quarters. Like they should have, well, they kicked tango holes in both of those two games and one, Jellong. And, you know, obviously Melbourne coming off a really good win. So they just look like they're in order. And that, you know, behind the goals of watch that game, the Melbourne game and just the way they defend, the way they attack, the stoppage work, the contest method, just everything looks like it's in pretty good order, except for. So you're really, you're championing the cause for the next gen. Yes, 100%. I think, like, obviously, it would be amazing to play at the Olympics, but I feel like I will be long gone. So, yeah, this is definitely going to be. Where'd she just look after yourself and keep yourself in the car? This is the young girls like Liam Wilkinson, Ruthie. Yeah, Sline Burton. Sline exactly. How did debut on the weekend? She did. It's one of the biggest sports in the world. It is, therefore. So there's no reason for it not to be included in the competition. Yeah, but it's bad countries, so. But we're going to change, don't we, to pick a sport like this. Yes. Yes, we do. So netball have put the bit in. Yeah, there's over 100 countries of play. Over 20 million people in globally. Yep. Sure, take that back. I'm pretty sure it's just running sports in the world. 100%? Yeah, I think. Wow. If you're not playing, you're not playing. No, I swear by you. So this is, if I've Brisbane in 2032, so don't forget, 100,000 Australians have signed it. Independent Pollinks, there's 66% of Australians want an netball included and 31%. So by a ticket to a netball match in the Olympics. Now, you've been around this netball caper for a while, and you're part of, of course, West Coast favour. And you know what it's like to have big crowds. Have you seen the surge of interest over your time in the SSP? Yeah, yeah, definitely. So I have been, yeah, so this is my 12th season. And I think, obviously, I'm a little bit biased, but favour especially. We get massive crowds here at RSA Arena, but I do think there has been, yeah, a massive increase in interest around netball. Lots of young girls and boys play it, but I think we are getting way more people interested in wanting to come to games. And yeah, I think there's a massive increase in that. 31% of Australians say they're by a ticket. Yeah, they're in a 9-million seat stadium. That's going to be enormous. Imagine fighting for the 9 million. Exactly right. But mine, obviously, obviously we're big for it because we're really good at it. Yeah. And we're bright in the metal hunt. But at the end of the day, when you're talking about participation and the, we beg it is across all the world as well. There's 100 countries of broadcast netball. This is a no-brainer. There's four sports you'd probably remove immediately and put netball in. Yeah, no, 100%. I think it's crazy that it's not in the Olympics. The amount of times that I've been asked like, when's the Olympics when you guys, it's not a thing for us, but so many people just assume it is. But obviously the big ones at the moment for us are congames and World Cup. And they're always hard for it to come. Yeah, and they're definitely like the, it's become so, it used to be Australian New Zealand. The competition was basically gold, metal match was Australian New Zealand. But now the likes of like Jamaica, South Africa, New Zealand, England, like it's really competitive. Don't like England. Let's go to a lot of playing our competition over here. (laughing) - We talk of Elio Galante, the man, the family run business, of course, and he is the man behind Bowman Homes. And I have said, I've said, Adnozim Scotty, how well the house behind me in the Golden Triangle is going at the moment. - You've got to, I know you're that in love with it. You're about to move from yours and buy it. The people that are building it, they know that you're going to move in before they get a chance. - My grandson sits on a ladder over the fence, watching the crew that are contracted by Bowman Homes to do their thing. And Elio Galante, we welcome you to the studio. And first and foremost, great man, we thank you for supporting our show, and we appreciate it. And welcome to, well, our breakfast team. - Hi, Tim Scott. I'm really happy to be here. - Tell us a bit about the building industry. I want to go all the way back to you, because this is a business that's been going for over 40 years. It's family run, I know Chanel, is sort of the new CEO. You've almost sort of handed the reins of sorts to her. Tell us a bit about how you got involved. Day one, all those years ago. - How I got involved is I started as a draftman for Skollon Homes in Mollie. But I realized pretty quick that I wasn't going to make enough money out of draftings. So I switched to building. - Simple as that. - Well, he said, when Elio says drafting. - I know a drafting is, man, I used to work for a structural civil engineering company. I know more, all more, cross it, and all over that. Hey, Elio, when we've spoken about this before, and then we had Rob on the show, we were talking about it, and they have text board lit up as well about homes in WA. And how we get more from, how do we find more? How do we find affordable living? Or how do we just get more land to put more homes on some people who can get into the market here? - The land is an issue at the moment, and so is the building. We can't build enough houses. We don't have enough contractors to build them. It's pretty simple. - You oversee everything. Do you not? Even though you're sort of in the twilight of this business. Do you oversee designs, the way it's all travelling, you're very much a hands-on type of guy. - Yeah, I oversee everything. I normally don't go into all day afternoons in the office, and I spend most mornings on sites. - Tell us about the family involvement. The kids involvement. Because you see the names of the Galantane. We know that you're at the head of the Bowman Hose, but it is important and it's a family run business. Tell us about the roles inside with your kids. - My son Troy, he came on board as soon as he finished Aquinas, 21 years ago, but he got a bit burnt out, and he wanted to get a sail, so he was bugging me for a while to get a sail. An opportunity to rise, then he went on the sales team, and he's doing very well for himself. - What about Chanel? - Chanel. She got married, started a family, and she wasn't really ready to come in, but the boys are old and early going to school, so she stepped in about three years ago, and yeah, she does the day-to-day running of the whole place. - We're going to get to your love of the West Coast Eagles on foot, and also your horses in a moment, of course, and we do know you've got one racing this afternoon, so on this Thursday, so we'll get back to having a tip there, or three. Are you stepping back? - Getting out completely, no. - Yep. - Slowing down, definitely. - So you're short mates, you've done all that. - You've done so much more than anyone else. - But do you know what I love there, but just listening to you the earlier, is that your kids are in the business within now, but it's not like they've just been given walk-up starts and that. They've had to earn their way along the journey, and it just goes to show how you go about your work at my names, is that when you're ready, and when you're right to do what we do properly, then we'll give you a shot. - Old school, you've got to earn your stripes. - Oh, I love it. - Love it. - So, I love it. - I want to let me tell you, is earning the stripes, the Bowman Homes, HIA, Western Australian People's Choice Award 2025, was the Esplanade in Mount Pleasant? - Yep. - Proud of that one? - Very, very proud of that for a friend of mine, and that was the 12th home I've actually built for him since I've been in business. - You got it right. Who's your friend? (laughter) - You got a boat? I'm still looking for something like a beer, so I'll go to the boat. - Oh, we're going to meet him. - And I sent you off here about the little house, where it's not little. The house is being built out the back of my joint, right? And my grandson looks at it. When do you talk about going into the office, and when do you actually go and have a look at the end product and walk through and go, "Like it, don't like it, don't like it." And I know before it gets hand on over. - Yeah, I try and get out there. I do get out there mostly after lock-up. Sometimes after lock-up, I always go before it's handed over to the client. - Is that because it's just your reputation? That's your business name? Do you want everything to be 100%. - Yes, it is. And I love doing it. It's just seeing the finished product is what we all do it for. - Yeah, brilliant stuff. - What feels your time now then? If you are slowing down a little bit, I just haven't a chat with you now. I can't see you walking away. Because you just love it so much and proud of what you do. What's going to fill you time when you do get a few more hours in the day for a bit of aliyo time? - Well, I don't fish. I don't play golf. So I've got my race horses. So probably I spend more time with the horses. - How many of you got right now? How many of you are you going to play up for? - I've got shares in about 20. - How many of the family know that you've got shares? - Yeah, it's really bad. - There is. - I was just saying that was an about number two. About 20. - All right, let's take this on a journey because in 2004, Vick Derby, Flemington, Paul Harvey, rode this horse. The car was on the left side, and the car was on the right side. The car was on the left side. The car was on the right side. Well, did win easy and remember the day 2004 Vick Derby. All right, let's go to scenic blasts exploits if we can over there in the UK. Echo, we are no borderless scot. Near side fleeting spirit from a more proper here scenic blast. Now charging at them and charges into the lead entering the final full on. It's scenic blast by two and a half legs captain, Sheriff finishing well fleeting spirit on the near side is running well. But it's going to go to Australia again and scenic blast wins the Kingstand. Fleeting spirit is taken. Tell us a bit about that day. The top at the tyres, Royal Ascot, the whole experience. I'll never have another day like that in racing because I had the whole family there. We're all dressed up. We're on a bus and we're going there and you can hear a pin drop. On the way home you couldn't hear anything because everybody was screaming. The day itself was surreal. It was surreal to actually get there, but then to actually win the emotions just overflowed. It was an amazing, amazing day. Do they treat you as well as a winner at Royal Ascot being an Australian? Or you're just a dirty raider that's coming and taking their cash? They actually put us in the suite next to the Queen. So we're outside our suite, watch them all walk in all the Royal things. Did you want to selfie with you? No, it's just a boat ride home. What a rather Queen. There's her majesty, the Queen. In the box next door there's some builders from Perth. Looked over after the race and she was standing up, clapping and saying, "Oh, he's been happy." "Oh, really?" "How are I pay the Queen?" And she loved to horse, there's no doubt about that. Hey, interesting enough though, when we told you we were going to talk to you about Srinik Blast and Plastid, you got very up at us and said, "Not as famous as our other one in Srinik Shorts." That's right. He won 17 races and three and a half million dollars in stake money and he only costs $36,000. Daniel Warton did an unbelievable job with him. But he won as a two, three, four, five, six, seven and eight year olds. Just not many horses do that. Incredible. And again, you've tipped so much money into racing in Western Australia earlier. So it's great that you're over the journey of adding these superstars. Do you go to the races often even if you don't have a runner? Occasionally, I'll catch up with friends there. But mostly I'll go when I've got runners. Okay, so for me, Scott, as you will know, when we go to the races, we might not have a share in a horse. But we get there before the first and we go after the last. Are you a just rock up, watch your horse and go type a guy or do you try and save other dogs? No, I've got friends in, normally for a girl, stay for the day, yeah. Who are your stars out of you about 20 horses? Who are you mostly sorry about at the moment, Alia? I invested a fair bit of money over the last two years in babies and not many of them have raised yet. But they're all starting to come up a few of them will be in the Belmont season. I cut my older horses, Lord Gennick has sent my Hagan rule. They're pretty good and I think they'll do well over the Belmont season. But my daughter's got a share in a really good horse that is going to, one of the trial yesterday at La Cue, ladies pro, you should follow that. Okay, ladies pro. Are you well, lap booker? But you're excited to rest in the milestone? 40 years is a long time. I'm the big business. And do you see some light at the end of the tunnel for the building industry? You get in better. That's great. Definitely getting better. And one thing I've heard about you, and I was talking to the bloke over the fence, you know, the bloke over the fence, it was up on the roof over the fence. There's nothing to do with this. You have. You use traitors and contractors that have been loyal to your business for a long time. So if they work hard enough, they stay in the loop and they don't disappoint you. And you've got seasoned builders, seasoned contractors. We've got contractors that have been with us over 30 years, over 20 years. Had a supervisor, a retired last year, and they've been with me for 35 years. Oh, well. Can't believe the great here. Hey.
