Scottish World Cup fans are obsessed with Boston, the Fox Sports Zlatan-Lalas drama, Gisele’s Father’s Day post left out Tom Brady, Giannis goes to Miami, and athlete wedding updates
52m 59s
The episode of "Sports Gossip Show" explores a wide range of sports and cultural events, from the emotional fallout of Giselle Bunshin’s father’s day post celebrating her new marriage to Joaquin Valente, which many believe deeply wounds Tom Brady, to the extravagant floral weddings of athletes like Devante Smith, showcasing a trend of architectural and compressed floral designs. The hosts also delve into major NBA news, including Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trade to the Miami Heat, and discuss the growing tensions within the WNBA, particularly involving Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham’s public conduct. A significant highlight is Serena Williams’ surprising return to Wimbledon in both singles and doubles, emphasizing her enduring legacy despite her age. The episode also covers the suspension of Marketa Vondrasova due to a refusal of an anti-doping test, highlighting mental health concerns in elite sports. Additionally, the hosts reflect on the emotional and meditative appeal of soccer, noting its calming effect on viewers, and detail the viral phenomenon of Scottish fans flooding Boston during the World Cup, consuming massive amounts of beer and creating a unique cultural moment. The show also touches on the chaotic off-field issues in Senegal’s World Cup campaign, including political instability and poor player conditions. The hosts conclude by celebrating record-breaking achievements in the World Cup, such as Lionel Messi surpassing Miroslav Klos as the all-time top scorer and Curacao’s goalie setting a record for saves. Throughout, the hosts emphasize flexibility, empathy, and the importance of viewer engagement through ratings, reviews, and social media presence.

lot of drama in the wmba as well um and of course we will be talking about serena williams return
to wimbledon very exciting and a lot of world cup drama
that has unfolded since the last time we talked about the world cup you know what i'm realizing
what here's my issue what sorry yes amazing i can't see how long so i'm gonna i'm gonna i'm

timer at 34 this is great okay tom brady tom brady oh my god okay so uh happy fathers belated
father's day to any shareholders who are fathers out there dads or who have fathers um happy
father's day belated so giselle bunshin posted a happy father's day post but it wasn't for tom
brady well no she is she is the ex-wife now of tom brady uh well putting it that way it's like
a disservice to everything she is she's a supermodel uh activist icon you know what blah
blah she was married to tom brady she's now married to joaquin valente wait are they married
oh yeah did they get married did we talk about this wait did they get married did they shoot
wait i don't know i think so but i don't know anything now because my computer's on the wrong
oh they did get married yes yes yes yes why did i think they didn't sorry yes they did they did
um in florida on december 3rd 2020 yes how do yes
because that was when tom was crashing out on instagram one of the times he had a hard time
with that one okay um and she hasn't posted a father's day post in a long time uh she scrubbed
her instagram of any allusions to tom brady um and can you read the caption of this one please
i'd be delighted actually describe the first photo the first photo there i'm assuming this
is in costa rica where i believe giselle has a home um and they're on the beach and there's a
rainbow coming out of uh joaquin's head and she's has the baby on her yes and she has her hand on
his stomach and it's a lovely little photo and they're just looking down at their child
looks like she's wearing an arty pop carrier not sponsored maybe sponsored for giselle
nice carriers apparently um okay anyways and the caption reads quote happy father's day at
joaquin valente thank you for leading by example and for the values you embody love humility and
wait and for the values you embody love there it is humility integrity discipline kindness and
consistency you are an incredible role model we are all so grateful for you and we love you so
much and dad thank you for your unconditional love wisdom and support through every stage of
my life happy father's day to all the dads out there with a heart emoji so then you click through
and i'm gonna i'm gonna so then it's uh i realize i can open this on my computer oh
sorry we're really going through it you click through and it's just joaquin holding the baby
in front of what appears to be like a lagoon in miami and then it is vivian brady uh tom and
giselle's daughter putting her arms around joaquin in putting her face against his head
from behind and like this very loving nurturing pose on his part then it's um ben brady benny
brady standing back to back to see how tall he is in comparison to joaquin
and then it's joaquin with their baby in the jujitsu thing and then it's a picture of giselle's
dad and then it's joaquin again with the baby and then it is all of giselle's children
benny vivi and the baby um it seems i don't actually don't know oh yeah it's it's no no
no sorry it's benny vivi giselle and joaquin with their hands all around each other um and
if i were tom brady i think i might have had a hard time looking
at this one i'd have a really really hard time with this i would probably throw my phone into
my really nice pool you know after my rigorous workout where do you think he was when he saw
the post that's what i would like to know well i would assume that the kids that his kids were
with him for father's day what did he put did he post his dad for father you know i'm trying to
find that i thought he did i maybe it was just in his story actually i don't think he did a grid post
i don't think so no no i don't see a grid post i think the thing that is most devastating about
this post if i were tom brady is that the poses that giselle featured her children in with joaquin
are very loving yeah um very intimate yeah and i don't know that any of the pictures that tom has
posted with his kids are those sorts of intimate moments i guess it is also the kind of picture
that a mom takes of her kids and i don't know that any of the pictures that tom has posted with
her kids with like most of tom's pictures are posed with his kids like arm around and i'm not
saying they don't have those moments sure of course but the level of of intimacy with this
new father figure in their lives um and it's i think it speaks volumes that tom is not mentioned
at all and the things that giselle chose to call out about her new husband consistency the values
you represent um discipline
discipline it's like you know tom brady saw the word discipline he's like i'm the greatest
quarterback of all time he's like your new husband's a jujitsu instructor is he the greatest
jujitsu instructor of all time he's like who's to say he he saw the word discipline and he went
and did like 40 box jumps and then dove into the pool and just stayed underwater for a couple and
sent the photo just or a video of it to giselle no caption nothing just over text do you think he
communicate yeah because they have kids yeah of course they communicate i know but like that i
feel yeah maybe he maybe he takes some license with but that's but this this must be really
painful for tom i feel bad it's bad
but I will say he has really have I don't know how you can be divorced from someone that you
were with for so long and not know that that post would send them and who's to say mate look we
don't know maybe maybe it didn't affect Tom but I can't help but feel like if you're Giselle you
have to know that what you're posting is maybe the most devastating thing you could post for
your ex-husband right I mean he seems to be at least as of a day ago he is golfing in Ireland
so maybe that's how he's spending his father's day to get away his dad with his dad yeah so
right so maybe he didn't see it hopefully because of the time difference if he was in Ireland or on
the way to Ireland good point that's my hope you know what I hope actually here's what I actually
hope for Tom Brady is that he is no contact with Giselle with all of his exes I don't think you
need to talk to an ex unless it's about the kid it's like you know what I hope he's blocked her
honestly well for his own
sake I hope he has her muted on social media yes yeah well I don't think they follow each other
anymore so that's a tough one that's a toughie I think too that it is hard not to see that post
to Giselle's new husband and not think about the fact that Tom Brady was most recently linked to
a 25 year old do you know what I mean yeah being the best role model consistency discipline it's
a little bit like yeah you're like what's going on here well you can't post that and know that
it's not she has to care so little or be so angry on some level oh I mean she's like this is what
happens when you decided to un-retire this is what you get and I think it goes you got a new
life beyond the un-retirement if I had to get far I mean that was the straw that broke the camel's
back I would guess to quote Giselle I moved to Boston yeah and you're from we'll talk about
Boston again later today we will um okay we have two athlete weddings we need to discuss a lot of
shareholders sent these to us the first one I would like to share Charlotte has not seen because
I explicitly texted her yesterday and I said do not look up these wedding flowers no no I want
you didn't say that you said whatever you do do not look up Devante Smith which no I have to say
I didn't okay good well that he plays for the Eagles and he married Maya Danielle they got
married um at the Four Seasons Resort at uh Disney World's in Florida Orlando Florida oh my god they
Disney heads or it's just a location it's not like there's Disney characters in the background
you'll see what's what is it how do you get married at Disney without Disney stuff well I
think it's just the resorts like near the near Disney I don't know I've only been to Disney
World once I've never been to Disney World been once I would like to die having not gone I've
been to Disneyland no you've never been to Disneyland nope I've even been I have no
interest unless they want to sponsor the show in which case I love it if Disney would give us a
Disneyland then I would go Disney connected the ESPN so there's kind of a sports connection and
the bubble was in wasn't Disney World that wasn't Disney World it was just fine anyways Disney if
you're listening okay so I'm pulling up these photos you know what they need can I say yeah
what go go you know there's Disney World Disneyland I don't know who owns the rights
to the Muppets I would go to like a Muppet theme park a strictly Muppets you know I'm
surprised that doesn't exist I would go to that have you ever been to the Bob Baker marionettes in
LA any LA listeners out there I would love you would love it do you know what it is yes it's
really unbelievable I would really love to do that my friend Carly uh she's actually a theme park
journalist shout out to Carly amazing she one time had the Bob two was it two Bob Baker marionettes
um for her birth it was her birthday I think I think Carly correct me if I'm wrong and they came
to our house and they did it was that's the dream so I took a photo with him I will say I did have
the Muppets when I had a show quote show on Sports Illustrated TV which what's going on there um
I did the Muppets came to my show and that I mean the Sesame Street characters and I cried I really
want to go to Sesame Street we can probably go to this I really think we need to make that isn't
that amazing though they came to me that's really beautiful just like Sesame Street if you're
listening can we do a little visit just saying I think it'd be interesting we could work something
out um let's get Elmo sorry pod let's have Elmo share his favorite sports gossip story of all time
Elmo got raked over the coals when he said I hope both teams have fun out there for
for the finals and everyone was like you live in New York you traitor yeah and then to the point
where he did a video he did a real wearing a World Cup Jersey USA and said Elmo is rooting Elmo is
rooting for Team USA wait that was pretty good that actually I didn't know I could do that that
was good and he was like don't come for me and I was like the internet this such a cesspool that we
drove Elmo to make like a notes app apology video I know and he's a he's a puppet he's a little puppet
he's such a baby okay all right I need you to close your eyes okay all right we're looking at
these photos so they got married um all right I'm going to show you the first photo uh actually hold
on wait I'm going to show you these ones first okay my eyes are better this is also sorry if
I'm being sassy today the computer Windows threw me off all right this is the first photo I'm going
to show you I'm turning my computer okay take a look no no if you're listening to this and not on
YouTube I highly recommend
going on YouTube for this portion or looking them up no it is what I can only describe as two giant
flat walls with flowers shoved in there so closely and so tightly I've never seen something like this
before no no no go back not only is it's two two walls of compressed flower like full-on just
flowers a wall of flowers yeah but then the middle the two walls meet in a shape of a cross cut out
yes
in the middle yes which okay that's creative that's interesting um let's get to some more
flower photos because that so the aisle architecturally and it's waiting however I mean
these are very compressed yep very compressed um but what really just shocked me is the wall
of compression but so here's a better angle of it showing Charlotte a zoomed in they are white
roses jammed in there that is so many flowers is that like $500,000 worth you know I don't know I
texted um my friend who's a florist who did my wedding flowers puny petals she's amazing shout
out um I but I haven't gotten an answer back on what she thinks these cost because I wanted she
didn't respond but I want to know what does something like this cost here here's I can
this wall has to be at least like 14 feet high yeah because let's see how tall he is wait we
could just he is six feet so roughly 12 maybe yeah 10 10 feet probably almost two Devante Smiths
I do respect that if you're gonna do compressed flowers do it just go for it do it don't give
them don't give them an inch don't give them an inch so yeah they're shoved in there but then
what's really wild is their ceremony inside what looks like a ballroom oh sorry sorry I mean that
was a ceremony oh inside the reception they have flowers covering like as architectural like lights
or something hanging down do you see like their lights like lampshades their flowers flower their
compressed flower shades my goodness we have never seen this before in the history of the sports
gossip show this is innovation in the form of compression and I have to say if you're innovating
this hard I'm into it yes it's so rock and roll you know what it's so compressed it's not compressed
yeah no you know what I mean it's so this is it's so compressed it's avant-garde yes and another angle
of the uh reception let me find also I like the idea of a snaking aisle why don't yes well you
know who else did that wedding or who else did that was another uh the florist was flowers by
Edgar who also did um whose wedding was this AJ Brown which had kind of the wavy aisle also that
we discussed on our show and he also did Sam Darnold's one eight oh wow fun fact did they
have a wavy aisle you know I don't think no they just had a straight they have a group chat where
they're like who you who know the yes well so here's what I'm thinking because again I think
what while they are unbelievably compressed what is interesting it's like I just in recent times
this florist has done three football players weddings and so you do think that these football
players or their wives maybe or both
are look referencing the weddings of other famous athletes and I think that's also why
again you're just seeing so much so many similarities between these weddings why so
many of them often have more compressed flowers not all of them obviously but why they often do
it's like they're working with to your point the same same people yeah yeah so wow anyways
surely the most compressed I've never seen something like that I respect it they kind
of remind me of those flowers that um live forever I don't know I don't know I don't know
you know in the venus and floor whatever it's called venus at floor it's like that but a big
version yeah you know what I'm like can you cut off a piece can each person take a little piece
home yeah give them a because give them a little frame you could get that framed yeah right it's
like a little take like a keepsake yeah wow anyways you know what hell yeah so yeah that I
had to wait to show charlotte maybe I'm coming full circle maybe it started as like free the
flowers maybe now I'm like don't just shove them in there shove them in there I mean that I got it
incredible who can estimate how much just the wall cost well because then because the wall plus
those lights
yes plus the aisle flowers plus those arches they had i mean that's it's a lot of money
a lot of money that's impressive it's a lot of money wow yeah um okay we had one other wedding
yes which was that uh one of the cavender twins they played basketball you miami but they're
mostly just influencers um sorry but also that's how it goes yeah i mean they're that's what they
are yeah um married jake ferguson a player on the cowboys um and their arch is is compressed
yeah i would say wouldn't you say yeah it looks like a bubble letter i would have drawn in my
notebook right right we're back to the bubble letter situation they do have some greenery but
it's so compressed it's also just a bubble arch and that i'm less into if you're gonna compress
them do it you know blaze a trail yeah i yeah i actually think okay i think to your point
i am
maybe coming around if you're gonna be compressed just go all the way do it whereas this having the
greenery i actually think kind of distracts and it should just be all flowers well especially
because there's no there's no ununiformity like the whole it's just like a tube of flowers
stretched over as an arch exactly yeah no no that the first one davante smith that's
that's architecture i think it might be my new favorite i think i think that's my favorite because
it's i i gasped when i saw it i was like oh my this is a new category also the use of negative
space yes
which i like that that was very creative very creative i would assume edgar that was your idea
very creative wow um oh edgar come on the show come on come on the pod that would be we'd love
to hear about the process um all right so here's a question for you yeah what's up do you want to do
a live production meeting or should we take a pause because we have too much we have too much
i'm realizing all right well we're back we got a little production meeting there real quick um
in npr we're going to do a live production meeting and we're going to do a live production meeting
in the middle of the night once again yannis antetokounmpo was traded from the milwaukee
bucks to the miami heat he was he was um this is one of those things where there's a ton of drama
here and we don't have time to do it because we have to do a bunch of world cup stuff but
he they sent a bunch of players from the heat to the bucks yeah um some of those players will
probably end up on third teams um that we don't know yet like tyler hero um who is with the heat
uh the thing that's interesting here to me as a celtics fan is that jalen brown um apparently was
offered to the bucks they didn't want him because maybe jalen didn't want to be there
yannis clearly didn't want to be in milwaukee anymore even though the bucks kind of pretended
he did he liked the heat obviously players want to play in miami it's a fun place to live um he
liked the culture that coach eric spolstra and um president pat riley have built there um and at the
is one of those things where we don't think that the Heat are going to win a championship with
Giannis. No, I don't think it's this is going to push it over the edge for him. Sorry. I'm just
telling it now. I'm calling it now. Actually, the Miami Heat are not winning. This is not this is
not Larry O'Brien trophy. Well, we will talk about it more. But I will say just I hope Jalen's doing
all right, because that's an awkward situation. I don't know how every year it's like Jalen's
floated. I know. Could you imagine? And then you just keep staying employed by your organization.
That's that's what that's the story here. It's crazy. More than Giannis going to Miami. It's
like, yeah, he's from Greece. I'm sure he's gonna be jazzed to be in Miami near the ocean,
a warm ocean. Oh, Mediterranean fish. Yeah. Right. Oh, yes. Miami, the the Mediterranean
right off Sicily. Anyways, more to come. We'll talk about that more. Also, there was a big fight.
Oh, my God. NBA. Well, not really. It was just
a very uncomfortable situation between the fever and the mercury. Doana Bonner is on the mercury
now. She used to be on the fever and requested to leave the fever because she didn't like being
there. The fever, Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Lexi Hall. We talked about the three of them when
we did our episode about Morgan Wallen and his sports obsession. Caitlin Clark got a technical
injury. I mean, it's not great. Here's what I'll say. Watching the clips, it played out like an
episode of Real Housewives. It reminded me of that finger pointing that I it was a Real Housewives of
Orange County. No, Beverly Hills star. I can't remember her name. She was on an early season.
She's pointing. She's being held back, I believe, by Kyle Richards. It's a meme. And she's pointing
her finger. And that's what it reminded me when Sophie Cunningham was pointing her finger.
Yeah. Sophie Cunningham just keeps pointing at Doana Bonner. Misha Hines Allen was ejected because
she had two technical technical fouls in that game. Caitlin Clark clapped at a ref, which she
does. She like claps in their face and then does the like shrug thing. She's like me. I didn't get
it. And it's like and so she said in after the game, Caitlin Clark said, we should all just go
on the calendar now and pick a game that I'm going to be suspended for if I'm going to get
technicals for clapping or I would counter maybe don't clap at the refs. Maybe just don't. I don't
know. That's an option. Coach Stephanie White said she's got to be aware about Caitlin's fouls. She
said, certainly, I think there's some we can do without their natural things that happen, blah,
blah, blah. So, yes, we'll continue to remind her. And I think she has to have an awareness. So it's
like Caitlin is she seems like a very difficult person to coach right now. Seems like that based
on things that have been going on. But we'll do a full WNBA episode in the next couple of weeks. So
don't worry. Yep. There's simply too many sports.
There's too many sports and there's too much happening right now. Too much happening. But
we're trying to get through it all for you. Give a nice curation. OK, two things in the tennis
world. Serena Williams, who had already previously announced that she's competing at Wimbledon in
doubles with her sister Venus, is now also competing in women's singles. She is. Which
is wild. She hasn't played single since twenty twenty two. And this is sort of interesting
because her name was on a list of players in the pool of anti doping testing.
Yeah, I believe that that was last December. And she on social media wrote, OMG, I'm not coming back.
This wildfire is crazy talking about people talking about her maybe coming back. But
seems like seems like she is. It's yeah, it seems I'm like, why did she did she really not decide
then that she wasn't coming back? Or maybe she just wasn't ready to announce it. Yeah. And she's
like, I want to be the one to announce it. So I'm going to try to hopefully throw people off the
scent. But people are like me. She's like, I'm just doing anti doping testing for fun. Yeah,
for fun. Just just for fun. Just to make sure. Just to make sure I got nothing in my system.
And she she and Venus, we already talked about are playing doubles at Wimbledon as well. I think
what's going to be interesting here is tennis is such a grueling sport in terms of endurance.
And Serena is forty four, I believe. And so I think that could be a place where it could be
difficult to compete against people so much younger. But again, she's the goat and her serve is incredible.
Yeah. So maybe I mean, it's going to certainly make it that much more interesting to have her
back. And what a what a treat to get. Oh, it's such a treat. I love her so much. I mean,
I said to Charlotte when this news broke, I'm like, wait, will she compete at the U.S. Open?
Because that would be amazing, too. She loves hardcore and grass. She won most on grass,
didn't she? Yeah. Oh, yeah. I think that's why she chose Wimbledon. But I could be most
mistaken. Grass or hardcore. We're just maybe both. What if it's tied?
Hardcourt. Hardcourt. Wow. Significantly more on hardcourt. Wow. Well, then why don't you come
says grass was statistically her most dominant surface in terms of win percentage. But hardcourts
were her most prolific surface in terms of sheer volume where she amassed the bulk of her career
titles. OK, I don't understand the differential, but I think we're both right. I think it's saying
that she won more career like titles. Oh, wait, here we go. Here we go. Grand Slam titles.
Yeah. On Hardcourt 13, Grass 7 at Wimbledon. OK. OK. So. So she liked Wimbledon. Yes. She likes
Wimbledon. She likes Hardcourt. Yes. She likes both. She dabbles. She dabbles in the arts. You
can say she's played them all. Yeah. And then the other tennis story that's been bubbling up
is a former Wimbledon champion, Marketa Vondrasova, is suspended from professional
tennis until 2030. So four years because she refused to take an anti-doping
test in December of 2025, which, you know, so basically for context, for those who don't know,
players who are ranked in the top 100 are required to provide their location for one hour a day,
365 days a year. I did not know that because they can be randomly tested at any time.
And previously, Marketa had cited basically her mental health and fear in like them just
showing up. These anti-doping agents just appear and are like, take a test right now.
So I can imagine that that can cause some anxiety. But also,
it is part of your job. You know, it's a job requirement to take the test. So
by refusing it, you know, there'll probably be consequences. So it's not a great situation.
They haven't like, I mean, they haven't made a official decision by, I believe it's the tribunal
that she can then appeal. Presumably she will appeal the decision. But yeah, it's not great.
She posted a statement on social media yesterday. And I'll read a little bit. But she said,
I never thought I would be right.
I never thought I would be right.
that affected me far more deeply than I could have ever imagined. Tennis has been my entire
life from the moment I first picked up a racket as a little girl through thousands of training
sessions, injuries, comebacks, and moments I could only dream of back then. It gave me everything
and I gave everything back to it. I think it continues, but yeah. So I, it's not great,
especially also, I believe she's 26. Let me get her age, but, uh, it's not great in terms of where
she is at her age. Yeah. She's 26. So, you know, that's four years of prime playing time that she
now potentially is not going to be playing. Oh, I can understand feeling. I can understand the
anxiety she was going through. She said, um, she had, it clouded her judgment, made her unable to
process the situation rationally.
Um, but yeah, I don't know. At the end of the day, it kind of speaks to maybe those were bigger
issues going on for her, right? This is something all players have to do. Exactly. Well, we'll,
we'll keep an eye on that one. Exactly. Um, okay. World cup, world cup. Got a couple of fun things
to talk about. I, I, the world cup. I love it. Can you, I think it's, can you tell the shareholders
what you've been, um,
thinking about in your head about the sport of soccer? Yes. Thank you. Not related to the
world cup, but related to soccer. I just think, I don't know that I realized,
or maybe this is something that's happening to me in closer to middle age, but I love watching
soccer more than I ever thought I have been, you know, if you're having, if, if there's anything
in your life where you're, you feel a little unsettled or something makes you feel bad,
and then you just sit on the couch and you watch soccer, there aren't ads except for those stupid
hydration breaks, which we don't have to talk about, but you can just go to a completely Zen
place. And it's like geometry of triangles and just, and you get a sense of when maybe someone's
going to score. And I know that everybody who watches soccer all the time is like, okay,
Charlotte, where have you been? Yes. I, I have, trust me, I've watched soccer before,
but I think that at this stage in my life, it is doing something for me and my brain.
That feels amazing. And I think I'm going to have to get into premier league.
I think you're going to have to, I told Charlotte, she needs to pick a team.
So that's something she's going to have to think about over the next bit of time.
And I think, I think it's going to be Liverpool because,
Oh, you're actually going to say right now, I thought I was going to wait.
No. Okay. Okay.
I think one of my best friends, Hillary and her husband, Ryan, Ryan is a huge Liverpool fan. We
watched Liverpool win the premier league in 2019. And then that night Hillary had their first kid
and it's just very, you know,
How can you separate? I was rooting for the, during that whole run, I was like very excited
about it with them. And I, I, why fight it? Why fight it? I love it. Well, it's funny thing. I
had said to Charlotte before I was like, I feel like spiritually you would be Liverpool. She was
like, that's what I was, what I was thinking. That is wild. So I just energetically, it kind
of feels like Boston. Don't know why. Well, it just, because the Fenway ownership. Oh yes. The
Fenway owns Liverpool. So there is a tie in. There you go. I've been to Liverpool. My brother is a
huge Liverpool fan, has two tattoos.
So you've got a lot of people in your network. Shout out Graham and cutter. My husband went to
the game with Graham. No one scored a goal though, which is kind of sad for them. I know it's kind
of a bummer. So they went to, I know, I know, but they had a fun time, but you have an army of,
I don't know what they call Liverpool fans, but they have a name, an army of insert blank
police. What Liverpool? Oh, police pool heads, beetle heads. You call me the Beatles. I'm,
I'm also the two things I'm obsessed with right now are the,
the world cup and widow's Bay, the TV show and Apple TV plus Madeline called me a Bay head.
It's great show. If you haven't seen it, we're not sponsored by Apple. That'd be fun. But Katie
Dippold who created the show, if you want to come on the show, please, there's a sports connection
somewhere. We'll find it. We'll find you Reese. Yeah. Hey, Welsh sports. Yeah. Wales. He also
talked about his son is a huge Knicks fan, the USB Wales and whatever that was 2022. We talked about
that. Oh yeah. When Gio Reyna didn't play. Oh, right. Right. Right. That was Wales. Yes. That
was Wales sports head right here. Um, I think it's great. I think it's fabulous. I think maybe
one of the reasons that you are into soccer now that I'm thinking about it, another sport you
like a lot is tennis. And I think similarly, it's a ball moving back and forth. Yes. And while yes,
there are more commercial breaks in tennis, there are less than in football. I think it feels like
there's less. It's true. And it's just a beautiful endurance. Yeah. I can't believe that I, you know,
I grew up playing soccer too. So maybe there's some part of me that is remembering how fun,
thank you for supporting my, uh, I love it. No, I think it's great. It just feels,
it just feels great. I'm also going to have to just, we're going to have to
do a lot of NWSL stuff moving forward. We got a lot to cover. Um, all right. Well,
speaking of the world cup, we got to talk briefly about the Scottish fans who quite literally took
over the city of Boston and are now taking over other cities, but Boston in particular, I, the,
so the Scots hadn't been in the world cup in a while, right? I think that that was part of what,
made this such an exciting thing. Most of the games were played in Foxborough where the Patriots
play. Um, Gillette stadium was renamed Boston stadium. Yeah. 1998 was the last time. So this
is a big deal. Um, I think the funniest thing Madeline that I've seen come out of this is
Scottish fans who hadn't been to America before going to Boston and being like, Boston is the
greatest city in the world. You got two acts. You got Elmo now Scottish. Can you do a Scottish Elmo?
Yeah.
That kind of worked, but like, yeah, I think a lot of people in America love to hate Boston.
I love Boston. I grew up, I grew up there like, but watching Scottish fans came to New York and
they were interviewed on the streets of New York and they were like, what do you think about New
York? And they said, it is nothing compared to Boston. They love Boston. Boston is the best.
And I just think that that's beautiful. Well, if the Boston, Boston tourism board,
if the Boston tourism board does not do some sort of commercial or partnership with Scotland,
they're missing a huge moneymaker. That is, I mean, there should be some, there should be like a,
a treaty. I don't know. I don't know. Legally. I don't think that politically that's not going
to work, but I feel like people from Massachusetts should be able to just like live in Scotland for
free and vice versa, but only in Massachusetts. If you were born in Massachusetts, you should
get Scottish citizenship is what you're saying. Yeah. Or isn't that vice versa? It's not like,
Oh, UK, UK citizenship. I don't know. Let's work something out. The U S governments. I mean,
the UK government's going through a lot. Their prime minister just stepped down. So I'm like,
which is also, which is crazy. They love a prime minister. We haven't even talked about that. Well,
why would we be talking about it? Well, I mean, personally, no, it is wild, but they love a prime
minister stepping down. Apparently they just stepped. I feel like they stepped down more than,
than not. They used to not too. They used to hang up. Remember Liz truss? Yes. And, um, um,
no, no, before that,
no. Um, Oh, Boris Johnson. No. Before that. Oh, the one Tony Blair. Yes.
I was thinking about it. Um, wait, I mean, street 10. Oh, did you just mind the gap between the
train and the platform? Did I watch the crown? I've watched some of the ground. I watched too
much of the ground. Well, of course. Wait, well, well, these are citizenship. I think just work
something out. This is what I wanted to tell you. My cousin went to the Scotland game. Oh yes. The
first game that the Scots played at Gillette and the funniest thing, which they won, they won
as the Scots are coming out. The stadium played the drop kick. Murphy's shipping up to Boston.
No, which is an Irish song. No. And it just, which it's also like, you know, of course it's
like an anthem in Boston, but just the funniest thing to me is that the person running the board
was like, uh, it's the same thing. They might as well have brought, brought out some Irish dancers
and then like a Scottish bagpipe player. And you're like, that's,
that's sorta right. You're like, sure. Not quite right. But sure. No, I really love it. I think
it's great for the city of Boston. And if we don't see like a reality show of like Scottish people
living in Boston, like the real world Boston Scottish edition. I mean, what are we doing?
Come on. I need people yearn for it. Also Scott, the Scottish fans, um, literally drank Boston
drive beer, which Boston is a place that can drink. Um, the head of communications, the comms manager
for Sam Adams beer said that, um, on June 11th to June 21st, the tartan army, as our fans are known,
drank four times the amount of beer that is typically sold in a four day holiday weekend
at the Sam Adams downtown Boston tap room. That is crazy. They like bars were running out,
running out. I saw there was a video of a guy who's Scottish, who owns a bar in Boston. He was
like preparing for them arriving. Like he's preparing for a hurricane coming in sandbags,
but it's just filled with.
Beer kags everywhere. Just hammering shut the door. Yeah. Yeah. No, I mean, drinking,
drinking Boston drive beer would be like, um, drinking Boston drive beer. There's nothing to
compare it. There's nothing. There's nothing to compare it to. It's crazy. I mean, listen,
I've never lived in Scotland, but I have lived in London and they love to drink beer. So it,
it's not surprising that when they came to America, they're like, heck yeah, brother.
Heck yeah, brother. Drinking all that beer. Also,
apparently they're in Miami now because the Scots are playing in Miami and they tried
a Scottish thing. They do is they put cones on the heads of statues.
which i think is i didn't know that was a thing very funny i didn't either um but they did it
all around boston and then they got to miami and tried to put and the cops just let them
oh and then they got to miami and they tried to put a cone on a statue's head and there's a video
and the cops are just like honking in the background and being like you gotta like you
can't do that wow so i don't think they're gonna like my if they liked boston i don't think they're
gonna like miami no i think miami is gonna be too many cocktails for them would you say it's
a polar opposite of boston i think it is because it's yes it's a big drinking city and a partying
city but like not the i don't feel like it's spiritually aligned no with the men up north
um so scotland is playing brazil uh tomorrow and we'll see about that but well we'll see
anyways yeah they're playing brazil who are very good so yeah never know power of that tartan army
you never know army um all right
moving on
moving right along if you have not been following the world cup coverage on fox
then you should because one of the main storylines really has nothing to do with soccer but has to do
with some what appears to be beef between alexi lalas one of the hosts on fox sports coverage
and the other hosts basically that's what's going on yeah so rebecca low is um the main host and
then the analysts they've got terry omri and they have zlatan swedish soccer player yeah um
who mind you both of them zlatan and terry omri are some of the best soccer players of all time
so yeah just want to preface that and alexi lalas was good on the men's u.s team right but
not the same thing not the same thing and alexi lalas has been doing this since 2006 when espn
first put him on tv to talk about soccer i believe and so i think he's just kept doing it he's just
grandfathered in and he said i mean we said this on a show before he's like blamed the u.s's failures
on diversity and i think he's just kept doing it he's just grandfathered in and he said i mean we
he said a bunch of stuff that's just like really stupid um and zlatan and and alexi have just been
publicly like negging each other on air yes um and to the point where it kind of feels like fox
is keeping alexi there as like rage bait yeah as like people will talk about our broadcasts if we
have this guy that nobody likes and everybody finds it deeply annoying i mean that's what i
like i just said on the show you should go watch the coverage to watch the drama so they probably
are getting more viewers because of it and i worked at fox sports and i will say they know
what they're doing in terms of drama right so this feels on brand yeah and one of the things that
happened a few days ago was zlatan rebecca for rebecca ferguson another great brit great brit
rebecca low is wearing like a black dress with white collar and zlatan says rebecca you look like
you're dressed for a funeral and then said alexi
is alive don't worry and then alexi said quote you look like you should be welcoming people to
fantasy island to zlatan and then thierry henry if you watch the clip it's just like i don't know
he's just like standing there that's just one of many examples yeah another one is when alexi was
on location somewhere so he wasn't on the main thing with them and alexi said or rebecca said
alexi isn't here and zlatan said you're welcome america yeah so the thing that bums me out a
little bit is that rebecca low um who is an amazing broadcaster um she does a premier league for nbc
she does the olympics she's incredibly talented this is her first time hosting the world cup
it's something she's wanted to do forever she said like it seemed like a dream that was almost
too big here she is doing it and she has to deal with these two guys who cannot be professional
on television or who maybe are being told don't be professional on television this is good for
television right but regardless she ends up playing like the role that i feel so many sports
broadcasters put women i mean sports channels and executives put women in this position where they
have to be like the mom or like yeah the school teacher between two dudes who aren't bothering
to control themselves and then she has to play the straight woman version of like well come on
you know or like i want to be left out of this yeah and i think that is such a disservice to her
talent that she is being put in this position i don't like that i 100 agree she should not be
responsible for managing the emotions of grown men who are paid a lot of money to be on television
i'm sorry but if women were doing those jobs and were acting like that i don't think that they'd be
allowed to continue doing it oh no no no sorry they wouldn't also though two women on a panel
on a national broadcast hide hide your clutch your pearls um so yeah so that's that yeah uh
okay what next oh uh well norway beat senegal 3-2 senegal was creeping back in but erling holland
the star for uh norway scored two goals he did very exciting this is his first world cup he has
now scored four goals i believe in the world cup very exciting um their fans are speaking i mean
i feel like the if the scottish fans and the norwegian fans converged with maybe throwing
the brazilian fans while we're at it that would be an unbelievable argentinian oh yeah because
they all pretend the norwegian fans row in the stands like vikings like vikings they also rode
on the subway which is disgusting i'm sorry you're sitting on the ground well they sat on this although
you know there's something really amazing about they were sitting on the subway and rowing as if
they were the ones propelling the car in the direction it was going right if that's not
performance or physical comedy i don't know i mean it is but i'm sorry if i'm commuting home
i don't want to deal with that
oh see i don't want it i i would have i think i would have liked to be on that train it was a
crowded train i'd be too claustrophobic but they were all sitting down so it wasn't high it wasn't
like a bunch of people i'm i'm all for the rowing just don't do it on the subway you could i don't
want to see it on the subway um but yeah so they they won um senegal i believe was the slight
favorite for that game and they just couldn't pull it together no uh there's some stuff going on
with the senegalese team what's going on there well let's talk about it what's going on there
they kept mentioning it on the broadcast like there were issues within the camp and so i was
like what are they talking about looked it up first of all senegal um has been going through
some political upheaval because um there is this guy there is this guy named um osman sonko who is
um you know a popular who's a charismatic activist um but he couldn't run for president
in 24 in 2024 because he was quote convicted of defaming a former government official which i don't
know fully what's going on there but basically he couldn't run so he got his friend um basiro
diome fey to run so he became fey became the president of senegal youngest president ever
at 44 wow sonko then became prime minister because fey appointed him prime minister
but they started fighting and they amongst themselves yes sonko and fey uh their
relationship started deteriorating they had some disagreements over how to handle senegal's debt
which involves uh whether they would take a loan from the imf the international monetary fund which
sonko was very against fit you know all this stuff basically though it seems from my research and
forgive me if i'm not fully correct here because i'm not an expert in this but from what i read
it mostly comes down to who's going to run for president in 2029 okay um and so basically
the party is coalescing against around sonko um and fey fires
sonko as a prime minister so he's no longer the prime minister but the party's coalescing around
him and sonko is now saying our party isn't going to participate in this government at all
oh and all of this is relevant to soccer because during this time um they needed the coach to have
signed his contract and the coach of senegal negotiates with the federation but the state
has to then sign off on it right and things the state is like i'm sorry we have bigger problems
right now so until there was a new minister of sport announced
the state was going to sign off on it right and things the state is like i'm sorry we have bigger
and the coach the the team was already in the u.s for the world cup only then did he sign his
contract oh my god i know that's chaotic so that was going on also players are staying at a four-star
hotel instead of a five-star hotel which seems to be okay but not great they weren't thrilled with
the food their chef has been fired they brought in a new chef family and friends are staying nearby
and they're upset that there's not more senegalese food i think um and fans are upset because
there were only 400 tickets allocated to fans which is crazy so they were protesting outside
the team hotel all the players say that this hasn't affected anything um but watching them
play last night against norway it seemed like something was off felt like things were a little
bit disjointed and like i said they were the slight favorite and they could not pull out the
win it's they got they got a goal at like the 96 minute to make it three two but obviously that's
not enough to win right so right clearly something's up and as we talk about on the show vibes and off
the field
storylines and what's happening off the field really do affect what's happening on the field
they really do so well i hope they get things sorted out for them so that's current events
with charlotte um and i hope i got it right i love but tell me history with charlotte
um all right two last things before we wrap it up
curacao we have not talked about this on the show but their goalie recorded 15 saves against
ecuador which was crazy it is the most on record since 1966 by any goalkeeper in a fifa
world cup match that did not feature extra time oh my goodness isn't that wild history with madeline
alloy room
his name. How many Instagram followers does he know? Oh, let's see it. Well, I don't know how
many he had before. I think Vosina, the Cape Verde goalkeeper. Oh, he has a million. Okay.
He has a million. He's at a million. Yeah. He also plays for Miami FC. I think Vosina is over
14 million now. That's crazy. Isn't that crazy? That's really wild. So wild. The power of the
world stage. Power of the world stage. I love it. And the last thing, speaking of another record
being broken, but probably not for long, Lionel Messi became the highest goal scorer in men's
World Cup history. He broke the tie with the German player Miroslav Klos in Argentina's match
against Austria. So he now has the most goals for a man in World Cup history, but tied with
Marta. Tied with Marta. Yes. I'm going to guess he'll probably score another, but
Kylian Mbappe for France, he's coming up right behind him.
He is now tied for, I guess, second technically with Miroslav.
That's crazy. Which is crazy. And Kylian's 27th. So me thinks Messi will hold this record for
maybe another game or two at this point. He thinks Messi's got to score a lot of goals.
He would, I mean, unless they, I mean, at this point, wouldn't it be crazy if they had like,
I don't know, he wouldn't like they want 10, 10, zero and some crazy, I don't know,
some crazy match. Well, we were talking about this when we were watching the Argentina game.
On Monday that Messi, every, his teammates are just passing him the ball, which look,
he's their best score, right? So they should do that. But it does feel like everything is created
for him. It's like, you got to rack up these numbers, rack them up. And I said to you,
do you think once he breaks the men's record, they'll like more other guys will take more shots.
And now that we think about it with Mbappe on his heels. No, no, they got to keep those numbers.
Keep that number high. Argentinian pride. Keep it high. Um, anyways,
that's our show. Wow. We covered a lot of ground and a lot of sports on different types of ground.
Hardcourt grass, grass, more grass, turf, turf, um, hardcourt, hardcourt, compressed wood, wood,
plastic on a aisle. Oh, for a wedding. Yeah. Anyways, acetate, acetate, acetate. Is that what
that is? I think so. Sure. I'm going to go with it. I'm not going to question it. Resin.
Yeah.

FAQs
The hosts highlight flexibility because their different computer setups—full screen vs. half window—create mental discomfort. They emphasize that it's okay to adapt and that both of them are flexible, which helps maintain a smooth workflow and reduces frustration.
Giselle Bunshin posted a happy Father's Day message celebrating her marriage to Joaquin Valente, featuring their family and children in intimate, loving poses. The post omitted any mention of Tom Brady, which many believe was deeply painful for him, especially given the emphasis on values like discipline and humility.
The wedding featured an extreme, architectural design with walls of tightly packed flowers forming a cross shape, which the hosts describe as avant-garde and innovative. This design reflects a trend among athletes' weddings, often curated by the same florists, to create a bold, visually striking aesthetic.
Marketa Vondrasova was suspended for four years after refusing to take an anti-doping test in 2025, citing mental health concerns. The hosts note this as a significant moment in tennis, highlighting the emotional toll and consequences of such decisions, especially for a 26-year-old player in her prime.
The hosts reported a public, hostile exchange between Alexi Lalas and Zlatan Ibrahimović during a World Cup broadcast, including sarcastic comments about each other’s appearances. This created a dramatic, 'rage-baiting' atmosphere, raising concerns about professionalism and the treatment of female broadcasters like Rebecca Low.
Scottish fans poured into Boston, overwhelming local beer sales and creating a strong cultural presence. They drank large quantities of Boston Beer, reportedly consuming four times the usual amount, and even attempted to place cones on statues—leading to humorous and chaotic scenes in the city.
