1198: Scottie Wins in Memphis, US Am at Merion

We got a lot to chat about here tonight. Scott, he's absolute romp and Memphis at TPC Swamp Ass. We have the US amateur, of course, at Marion. Fun finish on the DP World Tour this morning. If I may say it's great Northern in Denmark. LPGA Tour was in Portland, an amazing Sunday from Gino Tidakoon. And that one, of course, we got some live golf news. You know we can't go weak without breaking down a little bit of live. Golf news as mentioned, Scotty dominated the FedEx, St. Jude. Jack Waley beat Jay Lang Jr. 4 and 3 at Marion. Jeff Winther, the Dane, he won in Denmark. Ross Steelman was leading the Albertsons Boise open the last I looked. And I don't have a current update on that one, but had a pretty comfortable lead. And that one, as we are live, and Gino Tidakoon wins the standard Portland classic. Titles, of course, was the overwhelming number one ball at the 126th US amateur. The week started with 263 players, teaming up a ProV1, ProV1X or a ProV1X left dash. Golf ball, it's 84% of the field, more than 13 times the next most played brand. Among that group, of course, was the winner who wrote his name into the history books. A 4 and 3 victory in today's championship match, while playing as ProV1X, Golf ball with US Open, US Amateur, or the US Junior are games biggest stages. At Memphis, this week, guys, he's back, Aquaman's back, we weren't worried, I'm glad we didn't waste a ton of airspace this past year, worried about Scotty Schaeffler, took a two-shot lead into the final round over good friend Sam Burns and SungJM, didn't start out great, had quite a rub of the green with a greenside bunker shot on the third hole, hit his sprinkler head, went into the water, it really, really affected Scotty as the only one determined by eight, has responded, birdied five and six, separated, Burns got off to a tough start, and then Scotty birdied 11, 13, 16 on the back, no bogies, and it was going to win it by eight, no one else did anything, SungJ melted away, Burns went backwards, Neil, did you get to watch a lot of the golf today? Well, I kind of struggled not to keep it on the US Am, you know, I once, Scotty's like six clear, and then you flip back over, you're like, oh, now you're seven clear, you know, it was just really, it was vintage Scotty. I think we could start to call something vintage, it feels like he's been around long enough, look super routine, middle of the green, and you know, on some of these holes with the Part 3 11th, you know, just a really like clinical shot there, like anytime there was a chance for maybe things to get a little haywire, it's just like, there was, he left no doubt all day down the back, but Randy, he's your favorite player, I want to hear from you on Scotty's win. The season, which is hard to believe, I know, I know 21st of his career, I think, and that's all in the last four and a half years. His first win being February of 2022. So just impressive, yeah, it was just clinic from Scotty, you know, the two shot lead, and he's got a, was it a bunker shot or chip shot, I forget exactly what his lie was, just a chip shot. No, a bunker shot, yeah, on the, on the Part 5 third, and he nearly hits a great little pop out bunker shot, and it hits directly on a sprinkler head, takes a big bounce, obviously kills any backspin on it, and it just goes by the pin into the water, it was a moment like just tough, like I can imagine you doing some, you know, something like that on its traps of where to not break apart. And that wasn't even, Sam Burns was already in trouble, he had driven it wayward on that same Part 5 third, he had to like punch out his second, hit his third into the water. So it's like, this really, there was no part of this whole day that was ever in doubt. It was a clinic. Scotty is my favorite player. I would have loved to have just seen somebody come and chase him a little bit. We honestly, we could assume that whole last two and a half hours when they hit the back nine, like it saved everybody the sweat and trouble around Memphis, but yeah, just another notch in the resume forum, obviously puts him in firm control, you know, not that he was going to miss the tour championship, go into the tour championship again, ranked, ranked number one, it's just, it's just more of the same. But I was surprised to see the FedEx Cup leaderboard. I don't really track it super closely, but see that he was number one. Is that because of today, because these, these playoffs were so much because he's the best player in the world. Well, of course, but he's only one twice. And so I'm looking down that list. I'm like, well, there's some other guys that have like, it feels like Cam Young and Chris Godder up three times, you know, that I would think, I don't know that I, maybe I sound stupid, but that's kind of surprised me because I'm, I'm like, he won the AMX. It's not like he won a huge event the first time around. And I was just thinking that he'd be in the top five. But I guess he's just constantly, he has a runner up in the top 10. Yeah, I mean, as other finishes this year, yeah, well, top five today, he finished third in Phoenix, finished fourth at Pebble Beach, finished second at the Masters, second at the Heritage, second at the Cadillac, finished third at the Byron Nelson, finished second of the travelers, finished second of the three, I'm open and T4 at the open, T4 at the US open. I mean, it must just be all the hours he's spent saying, what's wrong with Scotty, you know, maybe there's no way he could be number one. Also like first in Stroke's game, if that's your flavor, you know, like he's just, yeah, it's, it's kind of comical. Uh, I would, well, and I heard Trevor, everyone say best Stroke's game, Pudding performance of his career, um, he said that on 18 at the end of the broadcast, I don't know if that was for today or for the week, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm guessing for the week. He was, he led the field this week. He gained almost nine shots on the green, uh, so far this week and have to assume he led today as well. I mean, that's just not fair then. No, it's not. I mean, that's the thing too, like his, his Pudding has still been good this year. That's, you know, it would, yeah. That was the problem with Scotty, pre-mallet, pre-claw. And it really has been, there has been a dip in the ball striking. That's in arguable. Like the iron play went from being like Tiger adjacent to just like a bad morocala year, basically, numbers wise. And that's a big dip. That's a half shot per round. Like that explains like him going from being, you know, a waltz into the Hall of Fame in like a five year span time period versus like, Hey, winning a couple of times a year. Like it, it is that big of a difference. And, yeah, but today was like the, in this week was just the return of like, man, your offline shots are going to, to yards offline, maybe. And even when you're making the mistakes, you're scrambling really well. And just the shot he hit today into what holds at the fifth hole, 529 yard par four. There's only six birdies on that whole all day. We watched the group of four, some Jay missed it right, Sam Burns blew it way right over there. It's a converted par five into a par four hit hits a drive right down the middle of the fairway and like holds off this six iron, cuts it beautifully back to perfectly pin high and rolls the putt in the center was just like, dude, that's the guy we've been watching the last couple of years, man, and yeah, it's like bad time that you get it going. And like miss major season, like you're now you're going to get super hot, like blow fields away. It's got to be a little bit frustrating. I'm sure, but I mean, you're never going to get for the bank account for him. I mean, I mean, 11 was the whole day for me, you know, that island green and he hits it, you know, center of the green, Sam Burns, it's another, you know, quality shots to the middle. He's right in Sam Burns's line, just studies the putt berries, like a 25 footer, like so, so routine. After like hitting the smart shot and then just making the putt, uh, is that exciting? And I was thinking about it, you know, you tie your use to blow away fields or like sometimes when Rory's done this in the past, it's like, oh my god, like look at this dominance. Uh, I don't know, Randy, I'll throw this one at you, like, is that it's not quite as much fun. the watchman's Scott he's doing it and do you think that's because he's not emoting or like what would you what would you say there? I honestly think of some of it's the the canvas on which he's painting like an H-shot snoozer in Memphis you know I don't want to get aggregated like like Kyle Porter and piss off the people of Memphis but it's just not a super interesting venue you know I think if you're at a place like Hilton Head or Rive or somewhere where we can appreciate a touch more you know the just the golf course is giving you a bit more I think that's one thing I today was more just it was it's okay to call it boring it was boring and that's on Scottie's fault you know certainly I I'm more upset at you know Burns and some of this chase pack like could not get any sung Jay classic stuff from sung Jay what 70 or today nice after re-great rounds and then Tommy vintage T7 from Tommy Jake Nav Tommy yeah they just kind of went away so yeah just a few variables there that I think you know unfortunately not not a Sunday afternoon but I would think the credit I would give the course like for everybody than Scotty it played tough you know like it's a legit challenging golf course for the for the pro players which we are struggling to find in today's world so well said it needs to be you know they need some credit for that for sure and it was firm like for August being massively human it looked like they were totally fine letting parts of that golf course go you know he did next in the well into the hundreds today I mean it's nightmare there's a ton about this tournament that I think is going to represent the past of the PGA tour when we get to 2028 like I don't think the future of the PGA tour looks like this event on the playoffs look like this I don't think you should be going to Memphis in August but there's a ton to take from TPC Southwind as to what challenges players like smaller greens awkward angles of the greens and interesting water hazards uh and emphasis on on driving accuracy I mean just there's so many there's a there's several shots on this golf course that are like until you've passed this one you can't really I mean when you have a HOT lead you can breathe pretty easily but like 18 is a very interesting t-shirt very interesting oh 11 you got to survive that one um what's the other hole in the front nine with the water to the right and two bunkers to the left I forget exactly which hole that is on the front nine like that's super interesting like there's a lot it's not aesthetically pleasing golf course it's not especially a memorable golf course it's not even a great golf course but it is good at challenging the tour pros so like a renovation or like if we're looking for styles of golf course that are gonna challenge guys it should be more in this blueprint than it should be Craig ranch that's for damn sure um and there's something interesting about watching guys have to hit shots into smaller angled greens with ample punishment around them including penalty strokes is probably the best formula I think for PGA tour golf versus like memorial park I think this kind of test is way more interesting to watch even if it's not aesthetically pleasing but that's that's my vote par 70 I think that's a little bit of this how how much is your opinion changed shall we have for instance the 532 yard fifth is a part five right like all the scores look a little lower it changes none none for me read it's not a par five it's an average 4.24 4.23 today or average for the weekend average 4.1 like that's par four I that's what a par four looks like these days is 530 yards I'm sorry to say it but yeah I'm not a big guy to par a lot of people are when they flip the flip it on I think I think what makes it interesting though is like there's a there's no the floor is lower for the golf on this golf course we watched it with it's not it wasn't good that Sam Burns and Sungie went backwards today but if you play bad you are going backwards Rory I watched a lot of his round on Thursday man that guy was me finished very very poorly but like he was in a blender like this golf course clearly is is not one of his favorites and he kind of refuses to adjust his playing style for for the question it's being asked at this tournament but I don't know there the most boring golf tournaments I think are when the floor is super high and you can play a whole poorly and still make easy bars and I've never felt that way about south wind that's fair that's fair I think more yeah yeah no go ahead now well I was just going to say it's produced a lot of playoffs too in recent years so that's why this also surprised me when I flipped it on today I was like oh my god Scott you know I probably put it on like around eight you know and end of the front nine I'm like yeah this is getting out of hand already I was expecting this to be closer but you know what is also interesting there's the the more I I tend to like watching the pros play a course the less I want to play it myself some of the some of the some of the ones I'm like this is one of my favorites to watch a Phoenix I'm good I've never played Phoenix but it's one of my favorite courses to watch the pros play in south wind I've no real actual desire to play there especially in august but you know it's it's fun to watch the pros play I go walking in Memphis if you if you made me come on Randy down there as long as you'll take me to Beale Street afterwards 100% man I think macro what I was going to say just broadly speaking there's just a miss and I know we're headed towards a new pga tour reality here but just tough to square with the idea of like the playoffs and we're coming down to the end of the season and then like you get a weekend like this or a Sunday like this where it's one thing to have Scotty kind of walk away maybe we should get into like there's just not a lot of movement like guys jumping into the top 50 guys falling out of the top 50 it just I always find it lacking as the first round of the playoffs it just it comes up short for me in that regard can I can I totally flip this on you a little bit Randy in that thinking back like the lowest of lows of the pga tour when they started to lose guys to live and it looked like the pga tour was like in trouble and and it was just going to be a total shit product it bottomed out so bad that they had the runway to actually make the change they needed to make to make it interesting versus when it was you know just in motion and and going it was really hard to upset the apple cart and make significant change I think in the next couple of weeks we're going to learn more about the future of the playoffs and I think it's so bad now that they have the runway to completely flip it on its head and they have to do it it's not a playoff it's not good system it's I and I am I'm gonna stand on business on this it was a massive mistake to get rid of the starting strokes I still believe that it has made the playoffs go go from like a 2.5 out of 10 to a 1 out of 10 I don't know if you could come up with a worse system to crown a champion currently on the pga tour and I'm I'm choosing to see the optimistic side of that currently and that it's going to get flipped on its head you're going to have to show me sorry you're going to have to show I like your optimism but you know there's just a lot a lot of stakeholders involved like listen you know FedEx spends a lot of money and you know what I'm gonna give a shout out now I for now of course for now but my point being like that you know that that leads to you know golf and in Memphis in August right so navigating that like I'm not I'm not as confident as you that that can be that kind of thing can be navigated that the scales won't be hit by stuff like that so but I I agree with you that they have the opportunity I want let's seize the day Randy and I should clarify I think the finale is going to be a lot better I'm not as confident in the early leg of the playoffs but I think we're it's going to build towards something better is what but that can make this week better as well like I found myself like kind of hoping speed made into the playoffs or made into the top 50 to get so we didn't have to get sponsored next year and do that conversation every week but other than that like I don't really care that much about the 50 cutoff and so I'll be at BMW coming up this week and we just did the build out pod and they're they've had record ticket sales and the fact that that moves around I think really helps them add I think that creates energy for that event and you know it's only it's the top 50 so it does feel a little special based on that but I think you know FedEx saying Jude like I love I honestly the older I get to that I love the kids put in the flagging on 18 like the the same the children's horrible stuff I can't like the kids legitimately they do good stuff with that but the fact that it's you know kind of rinse and repeat every year in a really hot place you can just tell it's like oppressively hot and that impact the energy on site which makes a big difference when you're watching it on TV yes I think it's I think that's exactly right you know what you need when you get like just off the course on a super hot maybe not even while you're playing golf on a hot day like that but when you get off the course on a hot day suns up maybe vodka sells or vodka iced tea to kill a And I didn't I didn't have the heart to do it to say I'm on Twitter today, but I wanted to do I just did the, you know, the professor tweet from Goodwill Hunting, like, you know, fucking easy. This is for me from Matt Damon. And I wanted to say this is Scotty to Sam. I guess it disappointed and I'm like, come on, man, like, you know, fucking easy. This is for me. Give me a challenge here. But yeah, coming coming for it. It's it's one of those things. I don't know how many weeks I can do this with Sam of like can't dog the guy for playing good golf when like the speeds and JTs aren't near the board at much at all anymore. And I know he's not getting it over the line, but he's playing a ton of good golf. And I refuse to kind of make that be a negative for Sam, especially coming off the fourth top five of the season. But awesome here. Also, like the third or fourth time he's been in the final group. And, you know, has had a look. Has it got it done? Now, I didn't have the lead today like he did. You know, in past, you know, past events where he's come up short, am I going to say choked or anything like that? But just a tough deal. I was just going to get out in front of that full transparency. That's not what I said, but it's becoming a narrative gentleman. Now, good showing though, considering he's coming off four weeks with a newborn. I want that for the record. Not, you know, didn't drive it great this week, but you know, that's got to feel good heading into the into the playoffs when the big money's on the line. We could pay for some diapers, Randy. Yeah. God, when you said his fourth top five, I'm just thinking back like, would we say this was Scotty's 12th? And at points of this year, we're like, what's wrong with Scotty? It's just it's wild to me. Like I said, it was that third hole, right? Making a bad double on the par five third. Like any chance to make this a two horse race and competitive one out the window early. So yeah, disappointing, but I agree with you. Obviously, a newborn at home, like, it's not the easiest. I know that now. So all in all, all in all, a good week for he did say what the British, he was like, yeah, there's not much I could have done back home anyways. I was like, that was a little different experience. I think in those early early days, but maybe maybe you have a different system. That's totally fine. It was changing the 3 AM diaper. That's what I want to know that somebody's got to do it. So you mentioned this, Randy, like just the lack of volatility or movement in out of the top 50. We had a couple of chases with it today. That CBS did a good job covering it. Keith Mitchell, you know, to take the socks and shoes off on 18. The ball of his feet on the bank needed to make a birdie to even give it a shot. I did not work out for him. Speed entered the back nine inside the top 50 shot 37 on the back and will miss the playoffs after opening with 65. Very fun day on Twitter. On Thursday, we had a great time with it. You got to get those tweets out when you can, though, man, it is not built for 72 holes these days. Unfortunately, but speed season comes to an end. What's your last memory of the Jordan speed 2026 experience? It's just the word close. Even down, down to the wire. We were close to getting to keep it going. But yeah, in fact, we are, we're not that close. So like truly so close and yet so far away. God, he hit some like he hit a shot on the that long par 4/5 out of the bunker. That was exceptional. Hit it up there to 11 feet, leaves the putt short, you know, and I think I forget who was on the, on the call. It was like, that's just not a putt you would have ever seen. Jordan, leave short when, you know, at the height of his powers, right? He So yeah, he makes a turn in 33 looking like, hey, nice little back nine. We'll have one more week to play. And he bogeys 11, bogeys 12 eventually bogeys 15. You see the shot on 12? He drove that 12 is the whole I was thinking of with the water and the the bunkers on the left. Drives in the fairway bunkers on the left has 113 flag and they cut to him and the on course reporters like he's got a great lie here and just like a routine shot. He's like, there was no lip to deal with like it's up. The bunkers are low and like flat there. He skulls it into the lip of the bunker like he didn't even clear the lip that was not even in the like he just truly like almost top the bunker shot. He was lucky. It just came out into the fairway and didn't roll all the way into the water. But it was just like, yeah, it's so I was doing something. I think I was fixing some food and I it's just like every time he pops on the screen on 18 T and he just you know, he hear I kind of hear the T shot and it's just like hot mic of him going spin, spin, spin, spin. Then it bounces and hits a fan. The fan falls down. It rolls over the cart path into the pine straw comes to rest in between some guys legs who's like texting. And the guy just like picks his one leg up and it was like only speed is like you just look up and that happens. You know, it's just it's a true drama. Yeah, it's crazy. You know, like he's just he's just all over the place man and and yeah, it's just not going to get it done. Yeah, the week started. There was a a speed tracker on on Instagram that was starting to go fund me to get back the the $3,000 the invested in the channel speed camp who bought the channel from a guy who quit on spieth for $75. He's joined. He's gone nuclear. He's acquired nuclear weapons and all kinds of movement on the speed tracker front this week. But unfortunately, it's going to get going. It's going to be a big off season in speed. Speed tracker man. They're going to have to get their back off his square away. Uh, go ahead. Yeah. No, sorry. The other shot that stood out that the telecast did a good job of calling out in the moment. It was his approach in the number nine. He's got 129 yards. Uh, I think sand wedge. I think this is the right hole. And just totally, you know, just scrapes it out out right and misses the green, you know, like misses his target by 30 yards. I think he he ended up 90 feet away gets it up and down. But like that's a scoring like that's a scoring opportunity. It's just you can say the morning of watch, like truly, I think shot by shot, you just come away like, no, this isn't like this is not. But then when he's in the pine straw or he's over by the port of johns, that's when it's like, oh, he hits it to 10 feet, you know, so you might need to do a little tin cup, like Greller might need to start get him to like, you know, put his hats like make him look stupid. So he's so when he's only when he's in the fairway, like make it a challenge or because it's like when he's out of position as when he like hits the good shot, it seems like I'm proud of myself for not falling for Thursday, though, I had to send out one good, you know, one tweet. You had to get hyped a little bit, but it was like for like a half a second, I was like, I've been down to him too much. Like, it might possibly like just look really silly and like four holes later was like, no, he's he's not changed. We're also talking about sneaking into the top 50. You know, like we're not talking about like, oh, man, he almost won today. It's like, no, he didn't, right? He like any and he didn't sneak into the top 50. And they keep you mentioned Keith Mitchell. I'm supposed to do he was kind of on the bubble to do an interview with next week at a function. So now he's we're waiting to see if he got in. He's out. So now yeah, now that there's I had to prep for two options. He gone. So he's not coming. Max, Max, I said the week yet, I think he had to get top 21 and I think he missed it by what he's T 24. So that was like me. I'm had to get top 21 and things go your way and things go your way. Okay, but I mean, good clothes from him 69 68 on the weekend off star. He shot 73 in round one. So kind of didn't get off the bus, but Max is what finishes at 50 second on the list. Harris English Pearson, Cody, Harry Hall, Sam Stevens, all on the outside looking in Matt McCarty, Matt McNeely, Matt have sneaking in one from 49 to 50. It looks like. So he's or no, sorry, other way around. He went from 50 to 49. So he's he's safe. Randy, you you you yeah, you had a tweet in you. This I did I unbricked for just a second. As I was trying to help with the agenda tonight and Matt McCarty was getting the full Jordan speed experience today. He was kind of the one right on the bubble where if speed has a good back nine, he's bound some McCarty and he was quote as saying, having my season rely on speed on a speed round is absolute chaos. I guess he texted that to our friend Shane Bacon. It's like, yeah, dog. It's it's chaos for everybody. It's chaos for Jordan's cast for us. It's chaos for you. It's it's it's truly you don't know what's going to happen with speed. Am I a bad person though for not once believing that it was going to happen? It's like, oh, is he going to do it? Like, I don't think he's going to do it. I just I that's where I'm at my journey. Unfortunately, I did not feel like he was going to do it. And I'm I'm sorry to report that. that. I don't like it. And so I just to move it up to the top 30 for a second. uh right now uh Ricky is is uh number 30 Gary Woodland is 31 J.T. Post in 32 uh Nikolai Horeyard 33 um so Ricky and then Bud Colleys 29 Kirk Kityama 28 Adam Scott 27 so all those guys that's kind of like your bubble coming out of BMW it's funny it's wild that I mean obviously what the reason you just gave there but um Nikolai I mean there was uh his his twin Rasmus is playing in Denmark their home country uh yes this past week even a qualify uh for the for the playoffs but uh Nikolai fighting for for top 30 here I just probably not too often those guys are on complete opposite sides of the globe uh not playing the same schedule but uh Rory returned from the other side of the globe uh came straight from uh the bars and Abiza uh to to oh and called a bar man as a club if you want I don't know what those things are called anymore man or one of those in a long disco tech maybe? I mean for sure vibing his fave off it is yeah I do respect the I know I'm gonna be on video uh being out here at a club and I'm still gonna go do it and not care what people think uh I do respect that part of the vibe yet you know had some quote he shows up in Memphis this year did not play this in the past he finishes third the last um he said I think having four weeks off going into the last two events the year was probably going to be a little too much for me in terms of going to be competitive so this is a good week obviously I want to play well but it's also a good week to just see where my game is do a lot of practice or as much as I can in the heat uh then also continued I think it's important to be here if the tours it's the tours playoffs and it's important for all the players to be here I had some good conversations with Brian Rolab over the last uh a couple weeks I think it's important for me to be here and show support and looking forward to team it up so you tune somebody got in his ear obviously about uh being important to be here now he was not here for it last year and uh I know he he has been removed from the PGA tour stat he's not gonna have enough start like qualified starts this year and like he's just removed from the stats like I was he was second in driving distance I remembered seeing then now he's not listed level and he's not even not knocking the 3.1 played appearances. Yeah he's got to get his 502 played appearances he's uh it's exactly right. Brandy that quote it just made me think of like time trials in the Tour de France and he's just like yeah he's not a sprint you know like this this week this stage I'm just I'm just gonna be hanging out and tell a thought man like yeah I'm not I'm not pushing today we're gonna when we get to the climbs that's when that's when you're gonna see me okay which how do we feel about that like I hate I Rory has done so he's elevated so many parts of his game over the last several years to become a more complete player I don't love the idea of him just like crossing a place off like I can't win on this golf course like this golf course is good for me like you know I I've been been doing a lot of like worry thinking lately or another project we're working on and he he does stand out to me when you when you start to take the historical perspective of like dudes of their era like I just don't you know I don't remember tiger with the cut streak and stuff he didn't he didn't unsubscribe yeah which the driver he hit on Thursday at Memphis this week and hit in the water made double that was an unsubscribe yeah and and and Rory throughout his career there are there are there are like I can't even count on one hand the amount of times where he's just like I'm yeah I'm good I'm just gonna take me off your mailing list and you know and and Jack with all the runner-ups and majors and all the majors he won it just seems like Rory is wired a little different where he will just like I I'm gonna save the energy and I and I don't think that's admirable I think it's relatable in a way it's it's human it's very unique though when you start to think about the the killers the top dogs of historical golf like I think he stands out in that way and maybe I'm not like adding maybe you know Norman did that or like I'm not I'm not looking at all the you know all the dudes per era but when I'm just thinking about Tiger or Jack a lot of times their greatness what's flagged is their their tenacity to make the cut you know like the never quit attitude and Rory has some quit in them which is you know that I just worth acknowledging and like this this is kind of an example of that yeah it's so funny that you know kind of compared to Tiger in that like that's like Phil was the same way right plan where it was like dude Phil could eject with the best of them and it's like if you knew one Phil's week like Suya but Tiger and I guess to our winner this week sheffler like sheffler's wired where he is going to if he shows up to a place he's going to grind for four days and I yeah it's just a little bit of a different I don't know if it's it's interesting you know because he said it's like not necessarily a good thing for Rory but it's different right I think unique and when you start to talk about like the killers of the all-time killers you know which I would put Rory in that category or you know he's definitely like put himself in a position to be in that category at the end of his career it is to me it's unique in that in that regard where he can he can flip it on and he can just like yeah I'm turning it off I'm going to I'm going to conserve I it's not not worth it and and that's like not trophies to him I get that part and that's a mental thing of it I guess my question would just be like all right is it was it worth showing up just to make it token appearance and finish third to last and I mean almost he almost walked into it to start the week of like saying I don't care how I do this week you know he says he has stopped himself like obviously I want to play well but just a good week to see where my game is at was like I'm kind of just being here because I kind of have to so I don't get fined not literally it just goes back to you know we're we're to take this as the quote unquote playoffs and it's like oh one of the best players on earth is treating this like a preseason turn you know like an exhibition game like those things just don't match up and I think that's been the biggest issue with these FedEx Cup playoffs through the years is like you can have these situations where like truly it doesn't matter like a playoff week doesn't matter and what other sport do we say that where you know it's like I mean the only way you can participate without it mattering at all like you get a buy you know you're not playing this week but anytime yeah but you get the playoffs and you're playing it it matters yeah so I I think that's just like Phil like that's like the big problem with it's like I don't I don't begrudge Rory I you know he's in a position where it's like yeah dog knock the rust off whatever like that that's fine it just it doesn't square with this being a a quote unquote playoff I agree with that and to his credit I think him skipping last year was eye opening I think for roll up even of like oh okay you know maybe in a backwards way this gives me a little bit of runway to to make some moves that need to be made here if one of our star players is just going to straight up skip for our title sponsor of the entire tour uh let's get yes tough but also he's been very poorly incentivized to be there like let's let's change that let's get let's get into that so um the go by Raymond James officially announces a championship track event uh for 2028 and as we were just discussing last week said field will undergo a renovation ahead of the championship that was all around great news I think that was uh yeah big takeaway we had last week you just wanted to follow up on that note to say we will see a new sedge field in 2028 and I think that is uh overall win for for golf fans I think that's going to be a good one so um only other note I have uh on kind of the PGA tour side of things is the U.S. Ryder Cup team Jim Fiorek announced that there's going to be a big a quote big change to its point system uh he said it's going to be the right way to identify the best players in September for 2027 it's from Adam Schupack said Fiorek addressed the need uh for change to the qualifications system do the increasing difference in prize money between the signature events with purses upwards of 20 million dollars and the full field events they're typically half that amount so big change is coming what do we what do we think about the overhaul uh we don't know the details of what that would be hard to know hard to give you what I think without none of the details for for me well I'll just say for me can you just outline what the current uh process is just I know somebody he probably has the same question I know it's two-year thing and yeah you know can you help me with that a little bit Sally thank you I for the for the listeners of course that'd be wonderful I'll hang up and listen the last system was something along the lines of and I hate it so much though I actually don't know the full details of it because it pains me to read it every time but it was like a point for every thousand dollars earned the year prior and then the year of the Ryder Cup it was like one and a half points earned you know for every thousand points and then the majors were worth a certain amount a different amount and blah blah blah and it you know basically majors in the prior year count uh a fair amount but all this to say like it it was a system spanning a long period of time it was a total point system accounting system instead of like you know any kind of rate system or a ranking system of any kind and you can end up with a weird looking list that includes Wyndham Clark from this year uh you know when's the US open and if he has a bad year next year he might still make it on points because he's got a ton of major points from the prior year was kind of the the reason behind the change I think and it's it's long it's it's I have an article dating back to 2016 writing about how this point system has been needing an overhaul it's been tweaked and changed a bunch over the years but it has needed a complete overhaul I like this idea I like I agree with you and that it does need an overhaul I don't love it it's just about the mate the the disparity in dollars at the events I think it you need to go to a more robust um system that honestly probably some sort of weighted strokes game system would be the best way to identify the six best players that should just be automatically clinched on your team and because when you think about it when you pull back the six qualifying spots are four guys and you know it should be a pretty easy formality like it should be guys you already want on the team and like you just don't want to get trapped with somebody that earned a bunch of points that's in bad form that you don't want to bring with you and I don't like using Wyndham Clark as the example there like that's a little unfair to him we don't know how he's going to be playing a year from now but like that one would stick out he has a good start to the year again next year and then plays like shit the rest of the way but it's in on points and you've got to take him even though you're not he's not vibing that's the only situation you got a guard against so I've got to get you to be a two-year calendar would be my first question I what I would propose is something they would never do but what I think the best way to identify the six best players would be some sort of weighted strokes gained over a certain time period kind of similar to how you do an aging of OWGR of points earned but it's it's more of a rate base so it's not just telling you know if you if you make 25 starts for some of it makes 15 you can just earn more points and be higher on the list and something that is you know it's going to point per start so it's like it levels it basically yeah more something like that maybe that exactly and yeah I know I'm a data golf nerd and you can roll your eyes at this too but it would be like that or like a data golf points per a data golf points aging system of some kind like they're their point system is like the OWGR system is really heavily weighted towards wins seconds things like that and can kind of throw out a bunch of missed cuts like you can overcome a lot of bad play with one great week which I think is like maybe not the best way to identify your team I would want more consistent players on a week to week basis and there's there's points there's ways of getting there that kind of reward recent good play yet also good long-term play like I think trying to strike the hottest hand is not what you want out of a qualifier so some sort of like really dull system would probably be best I'd be surprised if they made it that intuitive and that drastic of a change but that's how I wouldn't I would hope you end up with the six best players going into it so we'll see I like the fear of saying we're doing big change I think fear does represent does not represent big change he's quite literally the opposite of big change he's been a part of like 14 or 16 teams or something like that at this point I might be a little high on that but he is he is part of the the establishment that is that is from the inside though because you know how knows how this the bureaucracy works it's best best case scenario I think so well you didn't you I still didn't get an answer on what time frame do you think would be right do you think it should be two years I think it should but I think like the waiting of something that happens this year is going to have like a 20% waiting you know even the biggest events like you know a major win this like the arbitrary number let's say you get a hundred points in this system for winning the US open by points time next year maybe that gets aged down to 20 right like in the the most recent major finish you're going to have your full points of that one and it's going to be more representative and you know you could dive in there pretty easily and make a pretty a mathematical formula that makes sense that kind of rewards the true talent level of a lot of these guys because I mean JJ spawns up like president scopes a different list and they use FedExca points but like Ben Griffin JJ spawn our way up on that list as of right now and that's not representative who's playing the best golf on the US side and if the president's got mattered could be trending towards something that was yeah so got like can't yeah exactly you know so that's that's kind of who it would benefit maybe you would look at that that rider cups pointless so can't lay 17th in that 12th in data golf and Russell Henley's 9th in data golf 3rd in Presidents Cup points okay just cuz yeah it and they're right next to each other over the last three months six months 12 months in strokes gained again which is just if you don't like strokes it's just your golf scores that's all that is that's not it's not a fancy metric at all like it's just literally how well you get the golf ball in the hole like those two are almost mirror images of each other and they're way apart on the points list like that's not that's not good points us that's exactly what that means cuz what do you say what's been Griffin on the current rider cup points list I don't know what he's on rider cup but on the Presidents Cup that's he's fit currently in the present okay yeah he's 26 the according to data golf yeah so it's yeah and he's like 20th best American player over the last six months like that's that's what you got a that's what you got to change solid one last question for how would you feel if they just throughout the lists both can fix I think it would be a remarkably similar final result like I think quite often yeah yeah I want to talk about long for our business I've been more than I know like let's make the captains important let's see once a stick their neck out I'm of the opinion the qualifications kind of stupid because again back to the original scenario I laid out like what's the you're either gonna pick that guy anyways or you're gonna get stuck with a guy that you don't really want to take it all it kind of only has downside like you you almost as the cat that you're a pick your system yeah yeah it would be like somebody like read that automatically qualified for 2014 that you probably wouldn't have got a pick and he ends up being like a stud is like the alternate of being saved by yourself you know making a making a potentially poor pick but anyways US amateur at Marion this past week our winners Jack Whaley from the UK he beat Carter Laughlin in the semi-finals and then went on to beat Jay Lang Jr. in the finals 36th hole final today one four and three made a putt on the 15th green to win that one rain soaked final day just 15 months ago Jack was playing in a I.A. Golf at Dalton State Carpet the Dalton baby is a Florida state he was down at the turn at the at the 18th whole turn but Lang did not play well in the afternoon and Whaley Whaley had it going in the rain anticlimactic finish but fun week fun you got you got to watch a lot of golf a lot of USA on this week and you know it sounds like well not like focused and but a feed and kids brother I hear you I was at the beach but it's really it's really good you know background stuck I thought Marion I really really find that course charming I think it really helps that I've been there and played it and I've called it this in the past but like it's the it is the HQ the home of par fours you get those two par fives early I think it's number two and four five I can't remember which one number four yeah and then it's just all and even the par threes are all like crazy long you know except for 13 it's just like various lengths of par fours you know because the par threes even feel like that and like the eleventh hole is perfect I just think it's such a good example of like in the final match Jay Lang Jr. misses right and they had NBC they're a really good job and the Rolex commercial free stuff it made it I think really helped with the viewing of like the aerial shot with the drone of that creek and then the fairway ends and it's just like the green is tiny with that finger that goes out the back but then the the creek is there which is really intimidating but then there's nowhere to miss because it's all rough you know so you can't where he was he's 177 yards away he can either lay up like 40 yards in front of him or he's got to try to you know send it up into the rough on the left I just think there's a lot of charming nuance to that golf course and I thought it held up really well with the with the modern stuff and then just little stuff that makes it stand out especially for match play then keen off of the putting green on 14 you know what you say what you want you know about oh my god why do they have to do that I still think it was kind of sweet from the air you're like oh my god the teen off in the middle of the practice putting green and and a lot of just funky you're talking about angles at TPC Southwind Sally so many funky like little subtle dog legs and and greens that are diagonal and you know just a I thought a really good you know, match play course, obviously, because because guys, you know, they could try to bully that place and it played, uh, I thought they firmed it up day over day. And then, you know, obviously the rain today changed things a little bit. But, um, yeah. And now it's hard. I'm not an amateur golf expert. So it's, but there are some, some stories and some guys you can kind of, you know, Miles Russell's, you know, kind of you perk up when you, when you watch him and his, uh, his match with, um, count rider. Yeah. Was awesome. Or rider, cow. And if we put it, is it right or cow. Yeah, Davis Thompson, you know, a lot, a lot of Davis's, uh, the, uh, that, like that match was awesome. And then the, the MGA, I know some of these, I don't know them, but I'm trying to plan some of these MGA events. It's got Matt Low and Christian Cavalierie. These guys are beating up the MGA and Christian Cavalier, he lost to Jack, uh, Waley in the, I think the round of 16 or maybe 32, but he's like 28, 29, like the last mid-AM standing. And so I, you can kind of, you don't know who any of these guys really are, but you can kind of lock on to like, oh my God, you start to like root for one guy. And then the next day, you're like, did he make it? Um, so I always find the USM really, really fun to watch and plan out a classic course like this. I really enjoyed it. The early rounds, especially like the, you know, the match play when they got a lot going on. There's no commercial. Like that Wednesday viewing was great. I think it, you know, you get to the end and it's, you know, they don't, they don't televised the first 18 of the, of the championship matches. It's tough, man. In today's day and age of, you know, I get that there's a lot of challenges with that, but I don't think the production has to be amazing TV quality for it to be watchable. Like I'm, I'm trying to catch up via Twitter and watching all the videos as it is. Like just having a decent stream up somewhere for the many channels I'm paying for seems within reason. And I, I know I'm begging here because you know, we get the commercial free golf during this section. And it's like some of the best stuff NBC and golf channel does in terms of just presenting raw golf and covering stories because they have time to do it and all that. And it's, you know, I'm not even sure if I'm directing this at the USGA or at NBC or what, but it does, I just hate that it ends on the note of like, man, I kind of would have liked to have watched this morning, the golf this morning if I could have. But, uh, but the street strip, like John Wood did a great job on course. Kind of what we were talking about with the open or the US open of like it's smiling the booth with Dan Hicks and it was John Wood and that was kind of the, that was that kind of the squad. You know, they had, they had some like, um, you know, whole analysis of the next whole playing a lot easier to do a lot more time to fill. But the fact that it was just kind of like three voices. Again, I, that is my biggest recommendation for them is like, you know, let's get Tariko in there. If we're doing the, you know, US open, like that would work, man, like we can, we can just go on course and have them volley with, uh, with one or two guys in the booth. I think that works. Yeah. Maryann, for me, I, um, I have to start with like, I didn't, most of my golf watching the sand was not the engaged kind, but like with sound on and like truly locked in and watching it. So I wasn't able to follow the matches really, really, really closely and get engulfed in it. Having said that, I felt like, um, I understand where Maryann sits. I understand the classic nature of it. I, and I haven't really like fully, I thought about this a lot, and I do not think I'm going to communicate this very well. So I'll just get that, get ahead of that part. But I feel like it is, um, an amazing golf course to play, amazing golf course to visit. I have so much respect for Philadelphia golf in general. The fan turned out everything to it. It's kind of closer to Oakmont. To me, then I felt like I was going to feel at the end of the week. I was kind of excited to see match play on this golf course. And I still think we are seeing a bit of a, um, massaged version of Maryann that is not the most entertaining style of golf. Just a lot of rough. And I don't think it, um, if it didn't like stand out amazingly for me in match play, I am concerned about 2030 for the US open. I think they can do things to it to suppress the scoring. Like I think they did some of that this week, like some of the mo lines were like the way the 18th whole play just in general of like a narrow fairway that's heavily canted and a green that can't really hold shots from the rough was kind of like suppressed scoring for the sake of suppressed scoring, uh, instead of like a really great test of golf. That's one example of it. Um, and just there's just so many short holes. Like if you are familiar, uh, you know, if you didn't, you know, I'm not familiar with with Maryann, it's called the opening six acts are called the drama. Like they've got long, uh, you know, holes in the early six stretch, then there's short, quirky stretch that's, uh, the six holes in the middle are called the comedy. And the final six holes, like with the danger, uh, you know, near the end and the difficulty of long part three 17th, you know, over the quarry on 16th, the, the difficult 18th are called the tragedy. Like that's the, it's a, it's a three act play. And we've seen this play once at the US open in 2013. They kind of quite heavily influenced that golf course, hit some pins, made it, um, you know, a lot of balls hitting greens and ending up in rough in the same spots. Good and okay shots ending up in the same spots and the rough was just a little bit too much of that for what is regarded as one of the world's great golf courses for it to be like, compared with like something like Shinnecock that we just saw. That was kind of my takeaway. In terms of what I like to watch, it just was a lot of, didn't see like I, didn't feel like I saw a lot of variety of shot making on display, uh, on this golf course because it was a lot of chipping out of rough and a lot of hacking out of rough off the tee. That's, that was my, I'm not arguing with that. I don't, I think it is a different brand of golf, but it, I think it requires precision because the greens are a lot, like the cop to oakmont is where I'd push back a little bit. I think with the rough, yes, but the greens are a lot smaller, um, and, and a lot more sloping them from, you know, what I, I've never been to oakmont those. And I was referring to fairway with and rough when I, when I say oakmont, I'm not necessarily the, the style of the course, just like that, those two particular elements, I should have been clear on that. You're right. Yeah. Um, but I mean, listen, I, you know, long, that is a part of, as we said after Shinnecock, I, I think that is part of American golf. And it, that could be like not your favorite version of that, but I think Maryens a good on the top end, like a, the better version of the long scary rough type of course that then some other places they go. If that makes it, does that, do you know what I'm trying to say with that? Like, yeah, yes, yes. Like, it's not a charm and subtlety to the, um, to the, to the lengths of holes and to the dog legs. And some of the ways the greens sit on approaches, I think it make it, I think it's much more technically challenging than just like every ball is ending up in the rough, you know, I agree on the design of that. And I think it's more, maybe I'm talking more setup then of like, sure, how it play it, almost how they have to make a shorter golf course play for the best even amateurs in the world. Some, somewhat, some of the, how I felt about aeronomic, uh, about like, dude, I just don't know if this course can hold up lengthwise. And what you've got to do to make it not be a birdie fest, I'm just not overall probably going to be a fan of. And it's, it was like fine for this tournament, but like, looking ahead to 2030, man, I'm just like, I know we're going to potentially different equipment by then if they get that done by then, but it is just got me, me nervous for just some elements of, of, of professional golf at the highest level that I don't love in terms of what they do with setup. But it's, it's nitpicking and super niche nerdy stuff I know, but that's my, that's my gut. Well, I'm more astray. I wasn't thinking too hard about it. I just liked watching match play. And especially like, uh, you know, young guys play match play where they're just, you know, like, I'll bring up the 11th hole again. I just make a really bad decisions. You know, Jack will dump, like Jay Lang Jr hits it, it should have laid up to the fairway hits it in the rough on the left. And then Jack will just place really quickly dumps it in the creek, you know, just like lose it. It's like, what do you guys do? And the rain starts. It's just like a lot of variables going on. And then, uh, Jay Lang three puts the next hole. Um, I don't know. It's just kind of fun. It was fun to watch. So I didn't want to, I don't want to think too too hard about that. You know, I enjoyed it. I'm sorry you didn't get out to get in the merch lines. I know you were, you were looking forward to that. Uh, I had a, you know, family vacation going on. I thought about it. I wanted to get down to Marion, but it just, you see those merch lines? I did. Yeah. I would have not have been in them. Um, but, uh, yeah. And it is truly like, you make the round of 64. It feels like, I mean, because Jay Lang Jr, he was like 200th in the amateur rankings, like 18 months ago. And I think he won the Western AM, um, almost wins the US AM. Sounds like new putter, new putting stroke, new putting grit, you know, just like, oh, you know, just snapped, snapped into it. Because what you, you sent a stat over earlier, saw he was like two and six and two six and two. This was from amateur golf, uh, dot com. He was two six and two in match play, uh, at the NCA level as of 18 months ago. Comes wins. Yeah. It's the Western AM, which is a match play, uh, and then almost wins the US AM is going to the masters runner up at the US AM. And, uh, you know, Jack was dad's on the bag. Like, that's just, I don't know. It's hard not to get hype when he buries like a 15 footer to win the US AM. Yeah. And it just gives his dad a massive hug in the rain. Like, I'm, I'm here for that shit. You know what I mean? Yeah. That's awesome. NBC does a great job too in these events of, like, getting people involved in their lot. I coaches and telling stories of, of people that have been a part of like, you know, these, these final guys growing up and, and, uh, you know, coaches at different levels, they had the, his, his coach at, coach at Dalton State. Um, they had him coming into the grounds as well. They do, they do a great job with that stuff. So we're always critical. And the last thing I'll say, I'm gonna shout out Tyler Watts. played with him, played 18 with him at the US National Development Camp. The video we did back in February and Ben, he said it to me, he's like, dude, this kid's real. He's like, they lefty and he's going to be a freshman at Tennessee. I think he lost to Jay Lang Jr. in like the round of 16. But just, you know, it's kind of like seeing these kids. I'm like, oh, shit, I know that guy. And so he just, yeah, has tons of games. So it's, it's, uh, it's fun to get that check in with the amateurs. And hopefully we see some of these guys pop on to the PJ to our next, you know, five years. I have, I have two questions real quick. Neil, the first question for you, I, I know your brother would know this, but remember that running joke that we've always made about how. Yeah, he won that great northern, which we went to at a 2022 season of tourist, saw scan and avia. The Lego family, they flipped the nines and it was an electric finish. The six, it was that par three. Yeah, they finished on a par three over all of their plate, such a hard hole. And you got bodied on that. Oh, I hit such a good shot, too, and it came up just short. Rasmus Huygard chipped in for eagle on 17 to briefly tie Winther, who was putting for eagle back on 16 who also made that putt. So he took a two shot lead, but you know, you hit that par three finishers are sick, by the way, one. Yeah, never be a super dramatic hole like that where he has a two shot lead. So the announcers were just like anywhere on dry land, anywhere, just anywhere left. You got to go left here. You got to go left and he starts it right. Because like, and it's a longer carry to the back right part of that green and drew it to the middle of the green. It was a really good shot to like 60 feet. But it was dramatic just being up by two and just being like a don't screw up shot. Yeah, it was a really, really good finish this morning. What are so, so you got past the tempo par three finisher. What would be another, which I think is a good old white at the West Virginia. Why my green briar was par three finish towards championship was East like was and they flipped that's right. Well, on the LPGA tour, you had McAteewa this year for the, for the Groke, the Croger event was a par three finisher. This is just coming across my desk to, I hope I'm saying his name right. Yon Han, zo, zo, an 18 year old from China. I don't recall. I was taking it back. I was kind of watching passively this morning, waiting in the airport because I'm a massive three and a half hour United delay. And the announcer, I rewound this to hear it back. Like the announcers were like talking about this case 18 years old had seven wins last year on the China tour. And he, like the announcer's like, this kid is not a star. He is a superstar. They're going out of their way of like this kid is, is coming finished third earlier this year at the Hanan classic in China. And is in a massive tie for second this week. He had the lead at this point earlier in the day, ended up finishing in second place. But just mega. 18 year old from China. Yon Han, zo. You want to play him? I mean, you can get here first before TC does. Sure. He's mine. He's mine. Okay. Get him on the team, the international president's company week. Get him on the team this year. Yeah. This goes back to my president's company. There should be at least two slots on each team that have to be taken by like an under. On the live golf front this past week, you guys heard of the live golf tour. Jamie Corrigan for the telegraph reported that live sources are quote almost resigned that John Rom will leave the league after this season. These are always got good sources. So that one definitely made my eyes perk up a little bit. Of course is what we are expecting. There's a lot of contingencies allegedly on this potential term sheet investor loan, whatever's coming that a lot of the top players need to stay for it to come come through. Rom in an interesting situation again, but almost resigned to leaving the tour next year, where you got where you guys think John Rom playing golf next year. Yeah. Which I've been I feel like I've been saying this for months. Everybody's act like he's been like in shackles. Like he's not like he can't leave live. And it's like he can. He just has to leave money on the table. But if you start to think it through, it's like he's probably got half of let's call it 300,000,000, let's say 150. Let's say 100 just to be conservative. I bet he got a hunt. You got a third of what he was owed. And then he won one another 80 90 million in prize money. Like do call today, man. Like get out of there. You don't have to like you don't want to go to his legal bullshit. Like I just have never bought into like all wrong. I mean, Rob's hands are tied. It's like they're not tied. That's that's to me. That's always been bullshit. That's the only only pushback I'll have on that has been that like I don't know if that doesn't feel like it's I don't know. And this is not that well source, but it's what we'd heard was that even if live exists in like a ghost ship format that he's under contract needs to needs to stay like there wasn't the wiggle room out of it or to your point. I don't know how they would call it back. I don't I don't. Because it's not a dentured servitude. You know, like at some point it's just like, you know, it is money. And it's like you've made a lot of it already from doing this. I would just say like at some point, I'm like, the conversation in Ram's camp has to be like, Hey man, let's cut our losses here. You know, like this has been a, this is, you know, you've made a ton of money. So you could argue, you could argue that it's been a success for you or you could argue it's been very distracting the prime of your career. Either way, best, you know, best case here is like, why don't we just get out now. And, you know, yeah, like, but then you, yeah, you add up like long term. I don't know all this equity promise from the PGA tour. Like maybe, maybe over time. It'll be, it'll be fun to maybe do the math on like, did he. Missing out on the PGA tour long term money does like. Did he come out ahead by making this change? I think getting it just getting a cash. If we're talking straight cash, homie. Like, I feel like you made a lot. Like, let's call it 150 million just to be conservative. At least 180, 190. I like your earlier calculation, right? That feels, that feels like, it's right in that range. That feels like three years. Like, all right, good. Cut that for taxes, of course. Of course. So, you know, you're under 100 million. And if you are missing out on the initial grants. equity from the PJ tour. And Brooks Kepka's deal is he doesn't earn it for five more years. And you're not getting the Brooks deal on it. I think you're still coming out ahead. But are you coming out ahead enough, that far enough ahead to have looked back on this to have said this was a great move for me. I don't know. If you were looking at it from a straight cash standpoint, not a historical legacy and, you know, sentiment around John Rom and, you know, NPS score or whatever, yeah, I think he definitely is coming out ahead because all those grand, I mean, you don't have to talk that much as the point. Not as much as you thought. And that's that's where this is like, you know, you got to reframe your expectations. I know you thought you were going to get 300 million or 400 with 400 million, you know, the 300 plus the winnings. But it's like, hey, man, like this, the reality is like, if the longer you stick around the, the, the more money you're going to lose by not restarting the suspension clock with the PGA tour, right? Because as I understand it, he could probably, he'd pay his, he'll wait a year, you play the DP World Tour, a ball out. And then by 2028, he's probably back on this championship series potentially, right? If, if he plays well, obviously, if you play, if he's a dude, no, I think it's, that's still, I would think the PGA tour is going to want them back for that. But I think it's going to come. I think we're, what, what is ahead still is going to be some painstaking, public, more, more winging from the Bryson and wrong crew of, like I, because again, they're not, it's not going to be, they were off of the returning member program. I said, no, I think the path back is going to be more penalizing than what Brooks got. And I think there's going to be a stalemate, a, a, a, a, blooding of heads there of like more power plays from Ram. I don't, I don't, I actually think I believe you there on, on Bryson. My feel though is, Ram's been pretty docile in his commentary, though, especially the last six months. I, I feel like he's, he'll probably play ball. He did not play ball very well at the DP World Tour. He famously, I know, but I'm saying that I think things, I think he's kind of, ah, like, now that they're kind of laying down the gauntlet with, with saying, we're not doing these exemptions for live anymore. Like, I, I feel like he might fall, we'll see, he might fall in line, but I think he's going to be playing on it. You asked, like, where do I think he's going to be playing? I think it's the DP World Tour. I think that's right. And especially the lives doesn't have a Spanish event anymore. I think he's, I think he's, I think he's had in there, but I, I think it's still going to get, still going to get messy for these guys come back in 2028, because I think they're going to, they're going to look like, what are you going to go on without me? And towards going to be like, yo, we tried multiple times to warn you. This wasn't going to be clean if you try to come back. And it's going to, it's going to be, oh, question for you. Sorry, like, Patrick Reed, his clock started. What? Let's say October. It's, it's, he's, he's technically eligible as of in like a week or two because of August was the last event I think he played. So my question, is it just, is it just a, hey, you broke the rules, you have a one year suspension and then, and then he's, does he have to do, can the torque, um, can they, what am I trying to say? Can they continue to punish him, or is it that a set thing? Like, I'm asking that in terms of wrong. Like, you know what I mean? Like, once, once ROMs, let's say live Bedminster was his last live event. So a year from now, he just, he ends up on the DP World Tour, or he doesn't play any golf. Could he then, uh, wherever his status is, or whatever, you know, whatever exemptions he has, like, is his suspension up with the PGA tour, or can they say like, no, we're going to add another three years for conduct, un, un, unbecoming because your, your vision uniforms were so ugly and the letter jacket thing was so stupid. You know, like, honestly, I'm, I'm good. Yeah, they would not do that. I think it's good. I don't know what reads, um, it's good question. I thought about that of what reads quote punishment is that similar to Brooks is like paying fine. I don't know if Brooks is like paying fines thing. I would have to imagine it's got to be relatively similar of, uh, you know, for, for read of like not being able to participate in the equity program for, for a bill. You can come back and play, you can play for the cash, play for all the FedEx, got money, all that stuff, but, uh, the equity is going to be for the people that stayed is probably where I would have to imagine the draw line. I can dig into that this week. That's a good question. And so I guess what I'm getting at is is this going to be different for every, is the justice going to be different for every guy, you know what I mean, which could, which I understand on the one hand. And like, I guess that is a PGA towards right, but it's all that might get them into some PR hot water as well. You know, like, if it's like, hey, man, I did my time. The rules said that my time was one year suspension for breaking these, you know, appearance rules. This is where you can use our favorite term from our, our deep ties will be more of this coming up. Conduct on becoming can be a wide ranging phrase. And it's pretty like for Bryson, it's like, fucker, you try to sue us, man. That's, yeah, you got his conduct on becoming. You are going into a different category here, uh, of, of punishment or, or consequence for your actions. And I, I don't think Ram, there's nothing Ram has done that comes to mind for me that would, that would come anywhere close to that. And I think the tour is going to be excited to have run back other than the uniforms. The uniforms are very bad. I mean, it just can't believe they've stuck with that pink and black. Yeah, it's just awful. Awful. I hope we get the, I hope we get to see the actual contracts if, if and when live shuts her down. I would, like, I would love to see the language in Ram's contract, you know? Yeah, because we've heard so much about this scary contract, Randy. I'm like, yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I mean, you're, you're right, Neil, and the, the scary part is the deferred money in it or like the unearned. Yeah, I get it. Like, you got to stick around to earn the money, but at some point it's like, you'll free yourself. Just say, say no to that money and go, you know, make it, make it again. I know easy for me to, it's, but it's a lot easier to say when you made 180 million of it already. That's my point. Like, I'm trying to square that though with his comment earlier this year about, I don't see many ways out. Like, I guess that's where I'm like, I would love to see what the, like, what language or clauses were in this contract. But if I would say I might also be asking questions about how your agent is paid off of all this. Like, did he get all of his money up front? If not, let's make sure that gets, yeah, I don't know how you call that back and prerrate that because that would, that would certainly be a question. To your point, you know, I would have thought all the money he made on the PGA tour and around the world and into the hundreds of millions before this would have factored a decision prior to this. So that's why I no longer follow that path of like, oh, you've already made all this money. I'm sure now you'll make like the better decision for your career because that has led me into saying things I've regretted about live golf over the last several years. So, but I agree with what you're saying there as well. Live finally told its players, the team championship has been canceled. That had only happened this past week. Then they sent out an email trying to sell tickets for it. They have finally it was probably an automated campaign. Someone someone had a schedule. Oh, we JP's working the ones and two tonight. She knows what that's like. They finally did remove that ability to sell tickets. But the event is still listed on the live website as of when we started this show. I don't know if it's still up there as of now, but for some reason, it is still listed, which I can honestly say, that was my favorite live event. I genuinely enjoyed the team finale. I thought the format was great. We've used that format in some of our other events of like two singles matches and an all shot match. And you played so like, that's a great way to go ahead to head. Like, I was into the team finale the most. And of course, that's the event that's going to get canceled unfortunately. But the athletic also reported the DP World Tour has begun notifying live golfers that is highly unlikely that conditional releases will be granted beyond 2026. Little I guess people were a little surprised by this move here, but they did grant conditional releases this year. If you paid your fines and you made a certain minimum number of starts on the DP World Tour, you could play live events in the DP World Tour. They just need a commitment free that you're going to play a certain minimum events. That has gone away now. This is a little bit of a throat stepping mechanism. I think for DP World Tour, we're no longer going to do both of these things. I think some factors in here of the national opens here of live trying to poach national opens in the DP World Tour while the screaming was in place. And just like this is not not been a friendly relationship. We no longer have to play Kate to you. And we're going to make you decide here. You can't do both these anymore. And again, if you're listening to this and you're thinking, why do you get like, if you want to play the dumbass release game, if you sign for live golf, you are no longer an independent contractor, your employee of live golf, you don't get releases from any live golf events. There's not a reciprocal thing anymore. These guys are signing on to play these events and expect to be able to go play DP World Tour events whenever they want, despite not following the release rules of that tour, same with the PGA tour, yet that the live tour does not offer that at all. So that is, it is not apples to oranges so we can put that one to rest. Joselle Biaster, Michael Assassin, Peter Euland and Luis Mmasavu. I'm putting these pronunciations in my shirt. I'll sign up for DP World Tour Q school. I'm in all the uncertainty going on with live. Maybe not. I was going to say DP World, but I don't know. He did qualify for the live tour through one of the spots. Like I would assume the Asian tour right now. He called it through their promotions event. Like he was what the third place finisher, I think in that. And so I would imagine he would go to DP World Tour Q school, but it's not. Yeah. Yeah. Poulter had some quotes on it. He said, I think time might run out. He said, there's a hard deadline. I think of September 1st. There's four weeks to find $300 million. I guess so this is this was a couple of weeks ago. That is not a lot of time considering people in contracts have to be signed. You have to ask the Piff, are you happy to accept sending this business that is running today into bankruptcy to be able to have a go forward into a 2.0 version and give someone a 6 billion write off? I don't know what he's saying there. He said there are some who have an opportunity to play DP World Tour and there are a few that might have the opportunity to go play PGA tour golf because there's such big names. There are some that can't do either. Where am I at? I'm 50. I have some opportunity to play Champions tour. If Liv does a 2.0, I have a choice to go and play that. It's up in the air, which I don't think Poulter would be eligible for Champions Tour for another year, but with the suspension, but anyways. So are you going to miss when this is all resolved or how much do you enjoy the week to week in palace intrigue? Be up, be honest. It has been dramatic, entertaining, funny to follow. It's been super zoomed out macro, like the weirdest professional thing I've ever had to deal with. Some of the most unhinged people somehow involved in my life, just making up lies and just conducting themselves in a way that I cannot imagine a human conducting themselves and just feel like the only time I've ever felt a need to keep providing as much good information as I possibly can about this because there are so many just blatant lies being told every week and at times my energy to do that has wavered greatly, but at times it comes back and I'm ready to. I don't like people playing on my phone, man. It's time to go and I think it's been the weirdest, most unjustified attacks we've ever received. I think but it has undoubtedly been dramatic. I just think it getting the golf world back together and everyone kind of rowing in a better direction, making golf just like more approachable, more palatable, I guess, and just not this nastiness around it that there's been over the last several years will overall be a good thing, but it's been made for a lot of content. That's for sure. I would say this, Randy, it's, I mean, for me, I've gotten very exhausted with it, but there is a bit of the way it seems to be ending and it's not over yet, but it is a little vindicating in the way that I look at the world. I think is very pragmatic. And since day one, I've been like, this doesn't make any fucking sense. And what these people are saying doesn't make sense. And I don't understand it. Like there's no business case here. And this can't last that long. And so to see it all kind of play out that way is like, all right, God, good, I'm not crazy. Like I'm not the one missing anything here. You know, like it kind of just my spidey sense on a lot of this stuff is just ringing from day one. And you're like, but I'm being called a, you know, a shill in this and that. And like, saw you got it 50 times worse than any of us. But I'm right there with you. I'm like, man, it's just like, I gotta be honest. I don't see it. It's so worth it to like wrap up is a little vindicating. I think 100%. Yeah, it's like thing, like things make sense. You know, like I just, yeah, it's nice to know what you're saying. You'll make sense. You're like, how is this ever like really? And I think the accusation that, you know, saw that you've heard a million times. Is it like, oh, like you got to get paid by the PGA towards like the tribalism is not something that I've really bought into of like I want the PGA Tour to win. It's like, it wasn't really about it's like, no, no, I just think the PGA Tour like, it has its flaws, but it makes sense. Like from a business standpoint, this does not make sense. I don't see how this is going to in 10 years. Like, you know, this isn't this venture back, like, you know, spend it, burn it. We're on a rocket ship. I never saw the rocket take off. You know, I was never like, no, that has legs in 10 years. If you just pour gasoline into the engine. And so that's that's where I've always sat with it where it was like, yeah, I mean, I'm, you know, I've side with the PGA Tour only because it makes sense. That's kind of why it's always been frustrating. And I think it all goes back to Randy as well. Like the time we spent in the podcast we did with Andy Gardiner leading up to it, he just made it unbelievably clear that the only way this could work is if everyone did it. And this was never going to be the case. They were got what 20% of the world's best players at their peak, maybe ever. And so like having it very, the actual business model be explained to me that it only works if everyone goes having that business being stolen and just like a bastardized version of it from the jump with a bunch of buffoons running it was like the easy, that's to your point, you know, it's the easiest layup ever to see that this thing that couldn't last, like it couldn't possibly last. Yeah, last longer than I thought it would. Honestly, like, wait, definitely last longer. Like I just would have thought somebody would have seen that money disappearing and pulled the plug on this faster. And it might technically still exist, but live the way we know it is done for sure. Well, it's just hard to, you know, be an onsite last week. It's, it's, you know, and being a part of a couple of startups that turn into cockroaches, it's very hard to, when the momentum goes away, it's really hard to like take the plane back up. You know, like, there's just a lot of people don't really want to be associated with that. It's like, oh, that thing. Yeah, yeah, let's let's go somewhere else, you know, like you don't see a lot of like startups, you know, pivot and successfully, I guess is what I'm getting at. And, and it's a startup that quote doesn't work when you're literally just handing professional golfers money. Like that's, that's not like a good investment. Like it was never holding towards it. That's what I mean. It just never made any sense. Yeah, you don't get to just spend all of the money without becoming the top have referred me. I'm like, I don't get it. I spend all my money. And I'm, it's over. So, anyways, Randy, what take us to LPGA tour? Are you going to miss live? What's going? I, I think I weirdly like I have been exhausted by it for years now. I'm, I'm aligned with Neil there, but there is a small part of me. I'm going to acknowledge that like, I'm going to be sad when it's over. She finished a little earlier posted at 21 under Tidacom bested her by a shot, and then our Pachaya Yubel ended up getting to 21 under par as well to tie for second. So, the Thai women go 1, 2, 3. This is the third year of the last four that a woman from Thailand has won this event. So, there's something going on out there that agrees with them. Geno, I think this, this mirrors a lot of Scotty discussion from earlier in that like, it's been a disappointing year for Geno because she didn't win a major and a couple majors she completely no showed, but she wins for the third time this season. It's her 10th career, LPGA win, she's 23 years old, like she's extremely, extremely good at golf or just I'm not sure much matters until she breaks through and wins a major, but credit to her for for getting it done today. Not my favorite track on the court on on tour, Sally, we don't have to spend a ton of time here. It's been a birdie fest most years. It was a birdie fest this year. There's just not it, you know, it doesn't really challenge them like I would like to see a golf course challenge the best women in world. Can I say it's two like one great benefit I'd like the end in contracts whatever of the LPJ when they get on the West Coast is having a finish that's not opposite of the other there's a lot of other golf going on and like having a West Coast hour is great like when cornferries on late at night after the PJ toward rap a couple weeks ago that was great I would have liked it to have to have slotted seven automatic qualifiers via points that the remaining two will get solidified after this coming Sunday's Canadian open and then they'll take two players via the Rolex rankings the two highest ranked Americans not qualified on points and then three captains picks so that makes more sense but because I just saw that in passing today and I thought that was captain's picks they were doing the most videos of phone calls to the players that qualified and I was like did they do all the captain I did the captain's picks were coming yet then I mean it was in passing and that makes more sense okay yeah the the points clinching our good friend LC Lauren Cogland should be one of those two that that clinches points officially next week in in Canada and then amateur news Chiara Romero won a McCormick medal for the second consecutive year that's awarded this time each year to the best amateur golfer in the world what makes this one important for her it comes with points with the LPGA has a they call it the leap program where amateurs can get fast tracked right to LPGA tour membership and so by winning the McCormick medal she now has accrued enough points she will streamline right on to the LPGA tour she has a choice she can either join immediately play out this year and next year or just wait and start fresh next year I don't know what the the downside would be to just starting hats we've got a bunch of new H&B like the fall line is is in stock and then just like keep an eye out more follow parallel layers are on the way got some hats we're excited about and then we have it's like to build out a PJ tour event for the BMW Championship coming up this week. Check that out. That was a really, really, really fun podcast. As well, Randy, I haven't listened. Did you guys issue the May of Culpa yet on the the protein discussion, or is that still coming in weeks to come unless Neil and Trondet, I'm not on the Stephen Dubner one. So I will say, Ron and I chop, we will address it. Randy, just to like Dubner, like just like when we you and I interviewed him in 2020, he we did we ran through May of Culpas and we did a little catch up on things that were out on. I was like, hey, Stephen, you got anything you're out on. He had a list on his desk. Actually, I got a list of things I hate right here on my desk. And it was like things I love and some of it it was sick. I think this first answer was he's looking through. I think he was writing an article for somebody who's like the smell of an extinguished candle. And I was like, he was like, because it means the party's over. I was like, God, that's good. So he fit right in on the chop session. Like he he merged onto the highway and was like our speed immediately. So one of the best, I don't know, one of the best chops of the year. I really, really like hanging out with with Dubner. Yeah, I'm excited to listen and Sally for you. He wants to do a little collab. He's like, he wants to do a freakingomics episode on like PGA tour live, like kind of just kind of wants to he sniffing around, you know, true pro. I'm like, I like it when a pro sniffing around. So we'll take that offline. Yeah. And check out we dropped the documentary this past week on our friend Jake Trago. It's called Keep Showing Up that is on the no-lang up YouTube channel about Jake's battle with cancer and finding community through golf and music and the people that love him. It's a great, great, great look into a special person we've gotten to know. And I know a lot of people close to him would greatly appreciate if you watch that one. It's turned out great, great work from Matt Golden on the team on that one. So. And if I can just kind of plug the nest, which we highlight is our membership community here, you know, sometimes people will be like, hey, what, what, what did the nest. Do's go to like it's projects like this Jake Trago keep showing up documentary like that. You know, funded by the nest. Yes. The nest, the community played a large part in that.
