Scandalous Affair EXPOSED After MURDER In This Parking Lot
57m 7s
Ashley Harmon, a devout Mormon and devoted mother, married Emmett Corrigan in 2004, and together they built a loving family with five children. As Emmett’s legal career advanced, he became increasingly absent, causing Ashley to suspect an affair with his paralegal, Candy Hall. Despite Ashley’s efforts to maintain trust in their marriage, evidence—such as emails and physical injuries—confirmed Candy’s affair with Emmett and Rob’s knowledge of it. The situation escalated during a confrontation at a Walgreens parking lot, where Emmett was fatally shot by Rob, who claimed self-defense. However, forensic analysis showed only Rob had gunshot residue, disproving his story. Rob was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 30 years, with parole eligibility in 2028. Candy was later convicted of embezzlement and served two years in prison. Ashley, now a widow and mother of five, faced profound grief and trauma, especially after learning her husband died fighting for another woman. She channeled her pain into writing books, starting a nonprofit, and public speaking, while enduring a painful confrontation with Candy on Dr. Phil’s show—where Candy showed no remorse. The case remains a tragic reminder of marital betrayal, the consequences of infidelity, and the long road to healing. Despite the lack of definitive proof about what happened in the parking lot, the story highlights the emotional devastation of betrayal and the resilience of those who survive it. Rob’s daughter, only 16 at the time, felt guilt for calling her father, and the case underscores the unintended suffering of innocent children. Ultimately, no one emerged unscathed—seven children lost fathers, and families were permanently fractured.
Infidelity's hair's families apart. This, we all know, and this case is no different. Two families would be forever changed. - Oh, my God. Oh, my God. - I didn't know what was going on. I just see all this blood, I just can't hear it. - Look at these two married couples. They look happy, but two of these four people are hiding a secret. One of these women is sleeping with the other one's husband. - It's this kind of salacious story, and it's this murder. - I opened up the front door to these three strangers. - They said there's been two shots of a gun. - This would be a messy, deadly affair. (chattering) - All units 10-3. It now appears as though shots are being fired, all after a huge caution. And by the time it would be over, one of these four people would be dead. And another one would be behind bars for murder. And my name is Brianna, and I'm hot on the case. (upbeat music) Thank you so much for joining me for this week's episode of Hot in the Case. And I wanna start off this episode talking about Ashley Harmon. Okay, Ashley was born in 1982. She grew up Mormon. Her family were members of the Church of Latter-day Saints. Ashley's faith was very important to her. So was her family. Ashley came from a very big family. She was actually one of five kids and she was the one stuck right there in the middle. She had two older brothers and two younger sisters. And after Ashley had her two younger sisters during the family, she became a big sister. She really, really loved being a big sister. The family moved around a lot because her father was a small business owner. And with the business, they kind of followed wherever the money was. But by the early '90s, they settled in in Boise, Idaho. And those early childhood years were really happy. Ashley came from a very close home, very close family. Like I said, Ashley's father was a small business owner and sometimes the family struggled with, you know, some financial struggles. Sometimes they were hard for money. But the kids never ever really knew about their family's financial situation. Their mother and father always did their best not to burden their kids with anything like that. Until two years after the family moved to Boise, Idaho and everything changed for the Harman family forever. Ashley's parents split up and they got a divorce. Not only was this a huge shock for the kids, but it actually like completely split up the family forever. And I mean, like literally split the family up. The three daughters, which included Ashley, moved with their mom to Twin Falls, Idaho, where the two older boys stayed with their father in Boise. Ashley was only nine years old when this happened. And she said that this was the first time in her entire life that she realized that life wasn't always going to be perfect. The boys would still see their mom and the daughters would still see their dad, you know, occasionally they had weekend custody or split custody over holidays. But of course, this was never the same. It was actually earlier this week. I was scrolling TikTok and I saw a video of a young woman who was unfortunately going through a divorce with her husband and they shared very young kids together. And the woman said something in this video that I never thought about when it comes to going through divorce when you have young children still in the home. I'm a child of divorce. My parents split up when I was five years old, but she articulated something. She puts a name to words I never really thought about but it is stuck with me since I watched the video where she said after she goes through this divorce with her husband, she's only going to spend 50% of her children's childhood with them and that was the worst part about going through the divorce with her husband. So Ashley knew that she wanted something different for her future family and her future kids. Ashley said ever since she was young, she knew she wanted to be a mom. And when she had her future family, she wanted them to grow up with the family together. She wanted mom and dad to be together forever. The rest of Ashley's childhood was pretty normal and happy. She was actually the cheerleader captain of her squad. She was obviously very beautiful. She was very popular. She was very sweet and very friendly and kind. By 1997, her mom remarried and then they all moved to St. George, Utah. Utah obviously has a very large Mormon community and Ashley's Mormon faith was very important to her. So she fit right in. By 2003, Ashley had already graduated high school and she began attending college at Utah State University. And it was in 2003, while attending college, that Ashley met a slightly older boy that also attended Utah State. And that would be 23-year-old Emmett Corrigan. So a little bit of background on Emmett. He was born on August 30, 1980. So he was two years older than Ashley. He was a med student at Utah State and he would eventually graduate with a bachelor's in science. When him and Ashley met, there were instant sparks. There was an instant connection. They said that it was like love at first sight. Emmett was also originally from Boise. So they had that cute little connection between them. And Emmett was also a Mormon, which really connected to him to Ashley because faith was so important to Ashley. Emmett actually spent two years in Brazil doing LDS missionary work. And after that first meeting, Emmett and Ashley were completely inseparable. They moved really, really fast, which is also something that's common in the young Mormon community. They immediately started seeing each other exclusively. And after only a handful of months of knowing each other, the two tied the knot. Emmett and Ashley got married on March 6, 2004 in an LDS temple after only knowing each other for five months. And a few months later, they were expecting their first child. Or should I say, children. In 2005, they welcomed twin girls, Boston and Bailey, into the world. And two years after that, they welcomed their first son, named it Teague. And both Emmett and Ashley were just over the moon. And they were so happy. These were really, really happy years when their kids were little. And they were so in love. And they had this big, beautiful, happy family that they were growing, that they both always dreamed of having. By this time, they're both out of school. Ashley is a stay-at-home mom. It's 2008. And Emmett says that he wants a little bit of a career change. He actually decides that he wants to be a lawyer. So he decides he's going to go to law school and Ashley fully supported him. So the family moved to Spokane, Washington, where Emmett started studying at Gonzaga going to law school. And if you or anyone you know has ever been to law school, then you know what a commitment it is. It's almost like having a full-time job. And on top of that crazy workload that Emmett now had at school, he was also commuting an hour there and an hour back from campus. So he was away and busy a lot, leaving Ashley home alone with the kids a lot of the time. Ashley was a stay-at-home mom. She loved being a mom. She was like mead to be a mother. But you know, it's really hard being home alone with a bunch of little kids all at one time. She had three under like two years old. And even though she loved being a stay-at-home mom, it didn't make it any less lonely not having her husband around. She was really missing her husband. But she was still doing her very best to be a very supportive wife. And Ashley was just hoping that after Emmett graduated law school, he would get a nice job and then they would go back to how they used to be. In November of 2009, Emmett was finishing up a law school when him and Ashley welcomed their fourth child into the world. It was another daughter named Kalea. And then after he graduated from law school, Emmett and Ashley moved back to Boise, which was really, really cool. They both got to go back to where they came from. And Emmett began working at a bankruptcy law firm while he began studying for the bar. And again, if anyone knows anything about studying for the bar, then you know it is one of the hardest tests that anyone could take in their entire lifetime. People spend an ungodly amount of time studying for this test. And then a lot of people end up not even passing it. I actually did a little deep dive into statistics on how many people pass the Idaho State Bar test. and apparently in February of 2023.
only about 30% of people ended up passing. While studying for the bar, Emmett was still working at the bankruptcy law firm, so he is busier than ever. And he's not as attentive as a husband and father that he once was. But even though he was busy, Emmett still found time to get his wife Ashley pregnant with their fifth child in five years. Emmett did pass the bar and Ashley thought that once again, her family would just go back to normal, but after passing the bar, Emmett was arguably busier than he had ever been. Being a lawyer is a very demanding career, especially when you're first starting out and you're trying to make like a name for yourself and prove yourself. And Emmett was also like an extremely driven individual. So he's just started his career as a lawyer. He's working at the bankruptcy law firm, but he also always had this huge interest in criminal law and becoming a defense attorney. So in 2010, while he's still working at the bankruptcy law firm, and Emmett is only 29 years old at this point, he actually opens up his own criminal defense practice and opens up his own law firm, which is extremely impressive, but this also meant that his work hours would be increasing. Once again, Emmett is so busy at this point and he's never around for his four children or his wife that is expecting their fifth child. But Emmett is really becoming like this big, upcoming hot shot attorney and his workload is increasing. So Emmett starts hiring his own employee ease. And this is when Candy Hall enters the scene on this case and Candy Hall would be a really big part of today's case. So a little bit background on Candy. Candy Hall was an experienced paralegal and she was actually looking for paralegal work after losing her last job when she was hired on by Emmett. Candy was also married. Her husband's name was Rob. He worked for the local Sheriff's Department doing IT work. Together they had two daughters, but their children were older than Emmett and Ashley's children. Those children were all under like five years old and Candy and Rob's children. They're two daughters were teenagers by this point. When Emmett and Candy met, there was an attraction between them and within two weeks of working together. They started sleeping together. They were having an affair. It actually happened so fast that it kind of leads me to think that this wasn't either of their first time being unfaithful in the relationship, but you know, that's just speculation. I have no proof that that's true. And Ashley, for the last handful of years, knew that her husband was very busy, but after he began having this affair with his employee, something really changed. Even when Emmett was at his busiest, he was still an extremely good husband and a very attentive father. Emmett loved his children and he loved doing all the pregnancy things with Ashley. He was really excited when him and Ashley found out that they were expecting their fifth baby or at least Ashley thought because things were so different this time around. Ashley could really sense that something was really, really wrong. Emmett was a different person during this pregnancy. With their first four kids, Emmett was super involved. Even when he was super busy in law school, taking the bar, starting his new career, you know, he had a career change. He still would want to know everything that would be going on. He would go out of his way to make it to every single doctor's appointment that he could. But with this pregnancy, Emmett wasn't prioritizing Ashley and their baby. He seemed checked out, he seemed uninterested. Anytime there would be a doctor's appointment, Emmett would be too busy at the office. But of course, we know that he's spending all of his spare time with Candy. Ashley is not dumb and like most women when their husbands start acting differently, having more and more late nights at the office, Ashley began thinking that maybe her husband was having an affair. It was hard because Ashley truly did not think that Emmett had that in him, that he would do that, that he would betray her like that. Nothing bad happened in their relationship. The relationship was always really, really good. And they had this beautiful family, for a beautiful really young children, a fifth one on the way. So thinking that maybe the relationship had just gone stale, Ashley began doing different things to try and spice up the relationship, trying to like surprise her husband. Like one day after going to a doctor's appointment alone, yet again, instead of going straight home, Ashley decided to be fun to surprise her husband and show up at his office. But when she showed up at her husband's law firm, her husband Emmett did not seem excited to see her. If anything, he looked terrified. He went like pale, like he saw a ghost. He seemed really uncomfortable and nervous. And it was that moment that Ashley met her husband's newest paralegal, Candy Hall. Candy, who was wearing a very short skirt, and high heel boots that went halfway up her thigh, and she was wearing like a really low cut top. And it was that combination of mini skirt plus terrified nervous husband that made Ashley think, wow, like he might actually really be having an affair. And this is the woman right here that my husband's cheating on me with. But again, Ashley tries to push this thought out of her mind. Her husband's newest paralegal, Candy, was older than Emmett. Emmett at this point had just turned 30 years old. And Candy was 40 years old, 10 years older than Emmett, and 12 years older than Ashley. Ashley was still in her 20s, and Ashley's thinking, typically when men cheat, they cheat with women in their 20s, not the other way around. It wasn't much longer after this that Emmett and Ashley's fifth child was born. Another son named Titus. During the delivery of their second son, and their fifth child, Emmett was different than he was when their four previous children were born. He seemed withdrawn. He was on his phone like half the time and he was treating Ashley differently. There's a huge hormone change, you know, right after women give birth. So not having her husband there, comforting her, telling her what a great job she did, how beautiful she is, how happy he is, really affected Ashley. And she started thinking that maybe he's just really stressed out with work, you know, he's technically working two jobs. He has his own law firm, and then he's working at the other law firm, and now they have five kids to feed. Because at this point, Ashley is like pretty much 100% convinced that her husband was not having an affair with Candy Hall. After Ashley gave birth, Candy actually came to visit her. Candy held her and Emmett's newest baby. Candy gave presence to Ashley and her newest baby. Ashley even had Titus' newborn photos taken with him wrapped up in a blanket that Candy gave her. And you have to be a real sick individual to sleep with someone's husband and then buy his wife a new baby presence to hold their new baby in your arms. Like you got to be pretty sick in the head. So Ashley's thinking, you know, she's given this woman the benefit of the doubt and thinking, you know, this woman isn't evil. And she completely pushes the idea out of her head that Emmett's cheating on her. But Ashley still knows that there's something different. There's something wrong in their marriage. So she brings up the idea to Emmett about them going to marriage counseling. But when it came time for their first session, Emmett didn't even bother to show up. He actually never showed up for a single marriage counseling session. So Ashley did marriage counseling by herself, which is a pretty big red flag. If you're trying to fix your marriage and the other one won't even show up for marriage counseling and you're doing it by yourself. Meanwhile, Candy's husband Rob is having a similar experience with his wife. He notices that his wife of many years is pulling away from him and their two children that she's spending lots and lots of time at the office and more and more long nights at the office than she had been doing with her previous paralegal work. And at some point, I don't know exactly when, but at some point, Rob became aware that his wife was cheating on him with her boss. Her much younger boss. I don't have exact details, like I said, but by January of 2011, he emailed his wife, Candy, good luck with Emmett. Karma's a bitch. I'll have the last laugh. On March 11, 2011, Ashley woke up that day with a new sense of urgency. She was determined to have this perfect marriage, to have this perfect family. She was determined to fix her marriage, get to the bottom of what was going on for the past handful of months. That day, no matter what, her and her husband were gonna work through their shit. They were gonna sit down and talk and figure this out and move past it all. She's hoping that she can remind Emmett of the beautiful life that they have. And reignite, you know, that.
That spark. Ashley, that day, spends hours cleaning the entire house until it's spotless. She then spends the rest of the day cooking this big beautiful meal for Emma. It was actually Emma's favorite meal. She then baves all of the kids. She puts all of the kids in like their cuteness, best outfits. Ashley spends a little extra time on herself, making sure she looks really good. The house is beautiful. The kids are beautiful. Ashley looks beautiful. His gorgeous meal is laid out and it's absolute favorite meal of all time. Ashley lays the table. With the fancy shit, she sets the fit. Oh my gosh, it looks beautiful. Right? And Ashley's thinking, you know, he's going to come home. Emma's going to come home after a long day at his really stressful job. And he'll see all the effort that Ashley put in and all the time that she must have spent on all of this that she did for the entire day. And Emma would see his five beautiful children and his beautiful wife and choose them and choose to work past whatever is going on. And they would sit down and have this lovely meal together as a family. And it would be the first time in a long time that they had had dinner together. And they would, you know, laugh and smile. And then they'd put the kids to bed. And after putting the kids to bed together, then Ashley and Emma would talk, really talk and figure out what's going on and move past it. And it sounds beautiful, doesn't it? But that did not happen. Because without even bothering to pick up the phone and let his wife know, Emma came home from work late. Like you did all the time. He was so late that by the time that Emma came home from work, the kids were already in bed. And the dinner that his wife had spent hours making was cold. Ashley still tried to heat up a plate of the dinner that she spent all day working on for her husband, but then her husband said that he already ate at the office. And he wasn't interested in having the food that she made for him. And just as quickly as he walked through the door, he just went into another room. He took a phone call. And after that, he came back out and told Ashley that he'd be leaving again. He had to go to Walgreens to pick up a prescription, but he would be right back. Ashley begged her husband not to go. begged him to just stay home with her tonight. So they could talk or whatever. And that she would just pick up the prescription for him in the morning. But he was adamant that he needed to go. He needed that prescription right away. And he walked out the front door after saying to her, "Don't tell me what to do. I'm gonna go." And that exact moment across town, Candy was having a pretty similar conversation with her husband, Rob. But it went a little bit differently. When Candy came home from work that day, instead of coming home to a clean house and a beautiful meal, she came home to seeing her husband packing up all of his belongings. Rob had had enough, living, knowing that his wife was going to work every single day to cheat on him. And he was planning on leaving her. And instead of talking to her husband Rob and trying to beg him to stay, just like Ashley was doing, and said Candy went into the other room and she called Emmett and let him know that she thinks her husband's catching on but they're having an affair. Candy then told her husband Rob that she was gonna be going to Walgreens. Rob left shortly later without saying a word with his belongings. And Candy also left to go to Walgreens. Emmett and Candy met in the Walgreens parking lot a little bit after 9pm. Candy got out of her car and got into Emmett's truck. Together they drove to a gas station. Emmett filled his truck up with gas. They then drove around for a little bit before parking in a subdivision that was under construction. No one was around. And then Emmett and Candy had sex in Emmett's truck. They had sex for the second time that day. And while that was going on, Candy was getting a phone call from her teenage daughter. Coincidentally, apparently everyone had to go to Walgreens that night because Candy's 16 year old daughter also went to Walgreens. She saw her mother's car parked in the parking lot but her mom wasn't anywhere in the store. So she got really worried. She's calling her mom but then her mom's answering the phone. She calls her mom one time. No answer. Two times. No answer. Three times. No answer. And this poor 16 year old girl is so worried. She's thinking the worst. She's thinking that her mom was like kidnapped in this Walgreens parking lot. So she ends up calling her dad. Candy's husband Rob and Rob knew exactly what or who his wife was doing. Eventually Candy does find a moment to call her daughter back and she told her daughter that she was just meeting up with a friend and she'd be back shortly. Candy's husband Rob was already so angry at his wife that day enough that he packed up his belongings and was planning on leaving her. But now he's even more angry because now his teenage daughter is like in the middle of this affair that his wife is having with her younger married boss and this like pushes him over the edge where he's ready to confront his wife. So while Emmett and Candy are driving over to the Walgreens parking lot so Candy can get back in her car and go explain what's going on to her family, she gets a call from her husband Rob. But before Candy can even say anything to her husband, allegedly Emmett grabs the phone out of her hand and Emmett talks to Candy's husband. And allegedly he starts saying some really nasty stuff to Rob on the phone he's talking about how Rob can't pleasure his wife like Emmett can. He also apparently threatens Rob. He says that when he sees him he's going to crack his fucking skull. By the time that Emmett and Candy got to the Walgreens parking lot, Candy's husband Rob was already there waiting for them. He was seen on surveillance footage parking his car in the Walgreens parking lot getting out and going inside of the Walgreens he's walking up and down every single aisle likely looking for his wife Candy when he realizes that Candy's not in the store but Candy's car is still in the parking lot. He decides to get his car and wait for Emmett and Candy to arrive. And a little after 10pm Emmett's truck pulls into the parking lot and now the details of what happened next is pretty fuzzy, it's pretty unclear. It's not easy to know exactly what happened after this and you'll understand in a minute why that is. But I'm going to tell you what happened next with the information that I do have but I'm letting you know that this might not be actually what happened. When Emmett and Candy arrive at the Walgreens parking lot they have absolutely no idea that Candy's husband Rob is already there waiting for them. When Candy gets out of Emmett's truck and starts walking over to her own car her husband Rob sees her and he gets out of his car and goes up to confront his wife and that's when Emmett gets out of his car so now all three of them are in the Walgreens parking lot and there's confrontation going on. Unfortunately where this is happening is in a part of the parking lot where the surveillance cameras did not reach so none of this is on camera. As soon as Emmett gets out of his truck he allegedly immediately began verbally berating and threatening Rob. Emmett is saying some pretty degrading things to Rob how Rob can't pleasure his wife that he has a teeny tiny man part. He's asking Rob how much money do you make how much money do you make Emmett saying that he makes Rob's yearly salary in one week and the two men are just going back and forth back and forth and then Rob tells Emmett to go home to his wife and five kids. He says dent your wife just have a baby want to go home Emmett and this apparently set Emmett off this like really allegedly upset Emmett and he allegedly was the first one to make physical contact he like came up and kind of shoved Rob Candy says that she tried to break up the fight but the two men are just going at it and she's kind of sick of it and she says Emmett go home Rob it's time for us to go home and then allegedly Candy turns her back to walk back to her car and she allegedly doesn't see what happens next she only hears the sound of three gunshots while Emmett and Rob are fighting the Walgreens parking lot the other one did not know that the other one brought a gun and during the fight that gun goes off. When Candy turns back around after hearing the sound of three loud bang bang bang she sees both men on the ground Rob is bleeding from his head Emmett's bleeding from his head and also bleeding from his chest there's another person nearby that didn't see what happened but heard the gunshots and called 911 Candy also called 911 by the time the paramedics arrived at the scene one of these men were already dead
and the other one was rushed to the hospital. It was 30-year-old, father of five young children, Emmett Corrigan, that was dead. The first shot hit Emmett in the chest and hit his heart and his spinal cord, which would have likely brought him down to his knees and then the second shot hit him in the head. And this went through his head and out the back of his head, killing him instantly. Emmett died in candy's arms. Rob was rushed to the hospital. He had a gunshot to his head, but the bullet only grazed his head. It didn't even hit the surface of his skull, so Rob was totally fine. He was truited at the hospital and then he was questioned by the police and Rob told the police that he didn't remember anything about what happened, but then he proceeded to tell everything that he remembered and he didn't remember everything. He said that he went to the Walgreens to confront his cheating wife. But when he got there, Emmett got out of his truck and Emmett was the immediate aggressor and came at him and during the struggle, the gun that Rob always kept in like his holster or his pocket fell out and Emmett picked it up and Emmett shot Rob in the head. Rob claimed that he didn't even remember shooting Emmett, but then he later changed his story, of course, and said that he shot Emmett in self-defense because Emmett was coming at him and Emmett shot him first. Rob's wife Candy is also questioned by the police and immediately it's really hard to believe anything that Candy says because she starts off her interrogation just lying to the police. Candy Hall lied and said that her and her boss Emmett were not having an affair. They both just so happened to show up at the Walgreens and decided to talk a little bit about life and their shared marital problems, but there was absolutely no romantic or sexual relationship between the two of them. Oh my God. I mean, yeah, and just Candy, please help us put this together. As best as we can, we'll match statements with evidence. I mean, you know how police work on such things. I know. I do it all day long. Rob, my husband, has, he has had a really hard time. So with me working with Emmett, Emmett being younger and aggressive attorney. And I have been working with him since October. Are you an Emmett involved in a romantic relationship? No. You have a romantic relationship, Emmett. No. OK, now let's say sexual. Have you been sexual with Emmett? No. The story that I just told you about the events leading up to Emmett being shot and killed only come from Candy Hall, which is why I said, to take it with a grain of salt, because we don't really know what happened. There's no camera footage that shows what happened. There's no other witnesses, but Candy and she coincidentally allegedly had her back turned. So Candy says that she has no idea who shot first. All she knows was that Emmett was the initial aggressor. And that Emmett was the first person to make physical contact with Rob. So when I went and got gas at Fragmeyer with Emmett, and then we were driving back. My daughter called, and she said, Mom, where are you? And I told her I was with Michelle. And that is my best friend Michelle, because I didn't want to tell her that I was with. So then Rob calls, and he calls me and I pick up. And like, what are you doing? And I said, I'm out there. You out with Emmett, and I said, I am. And he said, what are you doing? And I said, we're just talking. And then Emmett goes, let me talk to him. And then Emmett got really upset with Rob on the phone and started and said something like, I'll break your head. Emmett got out of the truck. And I got out. I stood there in Rob's mouth. And Emmett's a very aggressive man. He's a bodybuild, so he's really pumped up all the time. He got this close-up Rob's face. And I wrote, and I go, hey, knock it off. This is ridiculous. Right here. Pop, pop. And it pops. And that's all I heard. And I turned around. It both simmered laying on the grid. And as all of this is happening, Emmett's wife actually is sitting at home thinking that this night couldn't get any worse. She wasted the entire day planning this beautiful evening for her and her husband just for him to leave. And now it's been over four hours. And he said he was just going to go to Walgreens and pick up a prescription, but he still wasn't home. And then around 1am officers from the Meridian Police Department knocked on their front door. And everyone knows police coming to your house in the middle of the night never means anything good. They were there to tell her that her husband, the father of her five children, was dead. He had been shocked and killed. This came as a devastating shock for Ashley, as you can imagine, obviously. But then the officers told her that it was Emmett's employee, Candy's husband, that shot and killed her husband, which confirmed to Ashley that all this time Emmett really was cheating on her with Candy. At the same moment that Ashley found out that the father of her children was dead, she found out her husband was cheating. She found out that her husband was cheating because his mistress's husband murdered him. Well, Ashley was sitting at home with a broken heart, blaming herself thinking that there was something wrong with her because of her broken marriage. There were three people across town in a parking lot, making choices that forever changed her life. The man she married, the man she had a family with, five kids with, died fighting for another woman. He died in another woman's arms. I couldn't even begin to imagine what she was feeling. I'm sure she had so many complex emotions happening all at the same time. She's, of course, grieving the man that she loved, grieving her husband, grieving the man and the life that they built together, while also being furious that he would betray her like this. She had five children under six with this man and she has to raise five children all alone. So even though Candy tried to lie to the police and say that her and Emmett were not having an affair in Rob's car that he drove to the Walgreens parking lot, there were printed out pages of emails that outlined the entire affair that Candy was having with her boss Emmett. So this not only proved without a doubt that Candy was having an affair with her married boss Emmett, but it also proved without a doubt that her husband Rob knew about it, which looked like motive for murder. And Rob's story that he killed Emmett in self-defense was quickly disproven because they tested Rob's hands and Emmett's hands for GSR gunshot residue. And there was only GSR on Rob's hands, meaning that it would be impossible for Rob's story that Emmett shot him first, and he then shot Emmett in self-defense because it'd be impossible that Emmett fired a gun. It'd be impossible that Emmett even touched that gun. This was looking more like a failed murder suicide, but only the murder was tragically successful. Candy's husband Rob Hall was arrested on first degree murder charges and his murder trial began in October of 2012. During his trial, he pled not guilty. He stuck with the story that he killed Emmett in self-defense. He brought forth evidence on the phone. Emmett was threatening to crash his skull when he saw him that it was on site. And the only other witness, they are cooperated his story that Emmett was the aggressor not him, that Emmett made contact with him first. And then he had the right to defend himself. And that only other witness that Rob was talking about was, of course, Rob's wife, Candy, who's surprisingly stuck by her husband during his murder trial and also testified in his defense. The judge on this case actually said that all of his years on the bench, all of his years in his career, he never saw a witness lie more or have more conflicting statements than when he met Candy Hall. During Candy's testimony, something else came out that was absolutely devastating for Ashley to hear. According to Candy, she claims that the same day that Ashley was spending the entire day cooking a big meal for her husband, the same day that her husband died, Emmett and Candy both went together to speak to a divorce attorney, to discuss divorcing both of their spouses so they could be together. The prosecution, in this case, absolutely rejected the idea that this was self-defense. And I think the GSR only being on Rob's hands is enough evidence to prove that. But they also argued that this was a premeditated murder that Rob showed up at that Walgreens and planned to kill Emmett and then kill himself. This was a planned murder suicide. And that he printed out those emails that completely outlined Emmet and Candie's affair.
and left them in his car as almost like a suicide note to explain why he did, what he did. He showed up at that parking lot with his gun. He got out of his car to confront his wife and Emmett with his gun. Emmett's wife Ashley and his father and his mother all took the stand to talk about what losing Emmett meant to them and how losing Emmett in this really violent way affected them. And it was really powerful testimony. Second, you took out that gun, had the holster. You already knew what you were going to do with it. Then yeah, you killed my son. It's my heaven. I need a dictator. And he should be free. This is a picture I took. I think it was about a week before Emmett died. The night itself was a traumatic event for each of us. And the two years that have followed have brought much pain. I've tried to figure out how-- and without hearing, I'm sorry. Emmett's chance to say I'm sorry, isn't he here? I'm going to tell you about my baby's pounding on a casket. Their hero's body lying inside. Screaming for him to wake up and screaming at me because I was the thing telling him that we couldn't open the box. I could tell him nights of them screaming in their beds because they had a dream that the bad guy came in their house and shot them in the head. Ultimately, the jury and the judge in this case felt like that there was not enough evidence to prove first degree murder. When trying to get a first degree murder conviction, the prosecution has the burden of proving premeditation. And they did not feel like there was enough evidence to prove that this was a premeditated murder. So instead, Rob Hall was found guilty of second degree murder. And he was sentenced to 30 years behind bars. The shock waves beyond that shattered. Emmett's wife, Ashley, and their children. They're so sorry. The only time that Rob spoke during his trial was when he got up and he apologized. But still, he almost immediately tried to appeal his sentence and conviction, still trying to fight that he was justified in killing Emmett that this was self-defense. His defense found old Facebook posts and Facebook comments at Emmett made where Emmett was being aggressive in the comments. Like, there was one thing that they found where Emmett was going back and forth with someone in like Facebook comments, not like fighting, but they were both talking about like someone they didn't like. And Emmett said, next time they saw them, that he would like beat the shit out of them or kick their ass or something. So Rob's defense team thought that this was enough proof that Emmett had anger issues and the ability to be violent, but his appeal was denied. Rob Hall will be eligible for parole for the first time in 2028, which at the time of upload is only two years away. Rob's wife, Candy Hall, also found herself in a bit of legal trouble in May of 2011. Candy was arrested on felony grant theft charges. And then in 2012, shortly after her own husband's murder trial came to a close, Candy Hall was sentenced to 14 years in prison for embezzling $32,000 from her former boss. This was the job that she had before. Emmett became her boss, but Candy was released early. She served only two years of her 14-year sentence. And she is currently on probation. She's actually getting off probation this year in 2026. There's a little bit more that we have to discuss in this case. A few more updates I want to go over towards the end, but I really want to close out this case talking about Emmett's wife Ashley and how all of this impacted her. Like I said, she was 28 years old when she found out all in one second that her husband was murdered and that he was having an affair. He died because he was sleeping with someone else's wife. And now at 28 years old, she was going to raise his five young children all alone. She was less than two months postpartum when Emmett was killed. Their youngest baby was only seven weeks old when his father died. For a long time after that, Ashley said that she felt worthless. She felt disgusting. She had just given birth to their fifth child and her husband died fighting for another woman. She took all of that pain and she tried to do something good with it. Ashley started a blog where she talked about grief and loss. She also wrote a book. She actually wrote quite a few books. And then in 2015, Dr. Phil reached out to Ashley and wanted to have her on an episode to talk about her husband's murder and the entire case. But when Dr. Phil's team first reached out to Ashley, they worded it in a way where her episode would primarily be focused on her book and promoting her new book that she had just published. This was actually right after Ashley had just published her first book. So at first, Ashley was really excited about the idea of going on this big show that everyone knows. And she can tell her story from her own words and promote this book that she was so proud of. Since her husband was killed by Candy Hall's husband, Ashley actually had no contact order against Candy. But just a few days before Ashley was supposed to go and appear on the Dr. Phil show, members of his team reached out to Ashley to try and convince her to lift the no contact order that she had against Candy. Because Dr. Phil wanted to have wife and mistress of the dead Emmet come face to face for the first time since Emmet was killed on his show to be televised for millions of people to see. I'm not really a big fan of Dr. Phil. And Ashley actually did agree to do this. Her restraining order against Candy Hall was supposed to expire again this year in 2026, but she lifted it for this episode. After her husband was killed, she said multiple times that one of the hardest things was that she never got to hear Emmet say sorry for betraying her because by the time she found out that he had something to apologize for, he was dead. So she was hoping that maybe she would finally get that apology from Candy, this woman that bought her gifts and held her baby and even offered to babysit for her and Emmet so they could go out and have a date night. I wish I could show you some clips of this Dr. Phil episode because I actually did find it pretty interesting given everything, but Dr. Phil is pretty tight when it comes to copyright. The entire episode is available for free on YouTube, but I will also kind of explain to you what happened since I can't put in any clips. So the episode starts off with Ashley coming in and telling her story about how her husband was unfitful and she found that out at the same moment that she found that her husband was killed. Ashley gets one-on-one time with Dr. Phil before they bring out Candy Hall. And when they bring out Candy, the room is dead silent. It's very awkward. And then Candy is on one side, Ashley's on the other, like this and Dr. Phil's in the middle. So Candy and Ashley are looking at each other face to face and it's really awkward. And then Candy is the first one to speak. Candy showed no remorse, she took no accountability for her actions that led to Ashley's husband and their children's father being murdered. She was extremely condescending. The first thing she said was, what do you wanna hear? You wanna hear me say I'm sorry and like a super nasty tone. Candy does eventually say sorry, but it was not very sincere sounding at all. On the episode Candy confirmed my speculations that Emmett was having affairs before Candy. Candy said that her affair with Emmett was not Emmett's first affair. He was doing this long before her and that he was actually sleeping with other women at the same time that he was sleeping with Candy. And this actually was sort of corroborated by police records apparently after Emmett was murdered. He had scratches on his body and they didn't know where these came from. They thought maybe they came from Rob, but an anonymous woman came forward and said that they came from having sex with her. During the episode, Candy is very argumentative and defensive and very like offended and angry. And Ashley's calm, she's emotional obviously, but she's keeping her composure while Candy has this crazy attitude and Dr. Phil actually does call Candy out on this. He actually says if he didn't know the language that Candy and Ashley were speaking and they could just go off like body language and their tone of voice that Dr. Phil would assume that Ashley slept of Candy's husband because Candy was so argumentative and nasty and Ashley seemed like upset and sad. And I don't agree with Dr. Phil on a lot, but I actually do agree with him because as I was watching this interaction, I actually had the exact same thought before Dr. Phil called Candy out on that. Candy said during the episode that she sees herself as a victim in all of this. And she actually talks a lot about how Candy does not like that Ashley has painted her out to be a whore and a bad person because she's none of us.
those things. Candy talks a lot about how Ashley wrote a book and how Ashley has a blog and she like accused her of trying to make a career off of her husband's murder. Candy said that she wished that everyone could just move on with their lives. And she doesn't understand that doing all of this, talking about her story, talking about her blog, trying to help other women is how Ashley is trying to move on with her life. Rob also gave a statement to the Doctor Phil show to be read out loud. He did not apologize to Ashley or Emmett's family. He instead took zero accountability and fully blamed Emmett for his own death. After filming the Doctor Phil episode, Ashley said that she really regretted going on the show, that it reopened a lot of old wounds. She said that while filming the episode and being face-to-face with Candy for the first time since Rob's murder trial, that she felt frozen. She felt sick to her stomach and she didn't get to say a lot of things that she wished she could have said to Candy. Like I said, Ashley has written a lot of books about her story, about grief, about loss, trauma, about being a widow. She also founded a nonprofit called a Reason to Stand. Ashley is very active on social media. She has her blog. She has an Instagram account. She has a YouTube channel where she talks about her life, her children's lives and their story. Life is full of moments. Some we will always remember. Others we will spend a lifetime trying to forget. But it is in these moments we find out who we are and who we were created to be. My name is Ashley. This is my story. On March 11, 2011, I was made a widow by two shots of a gun. That night I came head to head with many realities. I had five children, the youngest not quite two months old, who no longer had a father. I had to continue living in a world that was now full of fear. And I had to face the fact that my husband was killed for sleeping with another man's wife. But most of all, I had to face the reality that I wasn't enough. It wasn't enough for that gun or that man or the other woman. But even worse, my husband didn't die fighting for me. He died fighting for her. Anger filled my soul even more than the pain, hatred beckoned me to believe the lies that now had me face to face. I was humiliated that the world heard the truth in the same moment I had. I was scared I was no longer lovable. But the biggest battle was the journey to forgive. For two years, I tried to sweep my pain under a rug and pretend I wasn't dying inside. But I was broken. I waited for the murder trial to bring me the peace I craved. As the trial ended and nothing changed for me, I realized my journey to heal had just begun. And the children are grown up now and they get to talk about what it was like to lose their father and they've been, you know, talking about their own story and their own words for a very long time. And since Ashley has also gotten remarried and she's had two more children it looks like and her husband truly seems like a wonderful man. Ashley seems very happy. He seems like a wonderful father and Ashley has this big beautiful family that she always wanted and I truly wish Ashley all the love and all the happiness in the entire world. I really look up to Ashley. She seems like a very beautiful and very strong person. This is an extremely, extremely sad case. There's no winners in a case like this. Two families were completely ripped apart. Seven children lost their fathers. Emmett's five kids lost their father. Rob's two daughters lost their father for 30 years. Very sad, very tragic, senseless case. I think a lot about Rob's daughter too. I feel like a lot of people don't talk about her. Rob's daughter was only 16 years old when she called her father to ask why her mother's car was in that Walgreens parking lot and she said that she feels a lot of guilt and feels like a lot of people blamed her for what happened next and I feel absolutely awful for her because none of that was her fault. I would have done the exact same thing. If I went to Walgreens and my mom's car was there but I couldn't find her, I would have also called her husband so wish her a lot of healing as well because I know that was probably really hard to get through. As far as I can tell and there's not a lot of information because Kandy has been very scrutinized on the internet and she really tries to stay out of the public eye but Kandy and Rob stayed together for a really long time and according to an article that I found that was published in November of 2025 so at time of upload this was just a few months ago. Kandy and Rob are not divorced currently but are not currently together. So extremely interested to hear all your thoughts on this case. This is a case I've known about for a really long time. I think I first saw it on Crimewatch Daily. I used to watch a lot of Crimewatch Daily back in the day. I think around like oh 2018. So I've known this case for about eight years and it's really a story that sticks with me as well as Ashley's strength. I feel like that's what really really also sticks with me in this case but I'm so interested to hear all your thoughts and opinions on this case because even though this is a solved case we don't know exactly what happened between Emma and Rob in that parking lot because Kandy was the only one there and she said that she didn't see anything whether or not you believe her is also debatable. Ashley says that she does not believe Kandy. Ashley says that she thinks that Kandy saw everything and was just trying to stick by her husband and be loyal to him I guess. So interested to hear all your thoughts and opinions on this case please leave them in the comments and while you're there I'm really interested to let me know what case you will see me cover next because I really do read every single comment that comes in across all platforms where hot in the case is uploaded. So let me know your thoughts and I will see you guys all next time when we are hot in the case once again.
