Savannah James & April McDaniel on Friendship and Building a Business with Your Bestie
1h 38m 20s
Savannah James and April McDaniel, best friends and co-founders of a podcast and company, share a deep, authentic connection built on mutual respect and vulnerability. Their friendship thrives on complementary personalities—Savannah’s creative, energetic spirit and April’s thoughtful, service-driven nature—creating a balanced dynamic. They openly discuss major life transitions, including parenting, relocating across cities, and evolving leadership roles, highlighting how these experiences foster emotional growth and resilience. A central theme is the power of vulnerability: through their podcast, *Everybody's Crazy*, they create a safe space for listeners to share personal struggles, from dating and self-doubt to parenting and identity. Both emphasize that true connection comes not from perfection or performance, but from honest conversation and mutual support. They also stress the importance of internal values over external validation, advocating for self-awareness and authenticity. Whether through travel, quiet reflection, or spontaneous moments of connection, they prioritize presence, emotional honesty, and genuine human experiences. Their journey reflects a broader message: in a world of curated content, real connection requires effort, courage, and the willingness to be seen as flawed and human.
Okay guys, my guests today have all podcast based on the fact that if you've been outside lately, you know that people are one-one. And honestly, where's the lie? Savannah James is an entrepreneur and philanthropist who has built a lane of her own across business, media, and fashion. And yes, she also happens to be married to a certain NBA legend. Maybe you've heard of him, LeBron James. And April McDaniel is the founder behind Crown and Conquer, where she's created major cultural moments for some of the biggest brands in the world. Together, they're best friends, co-hosts of the podcast, everybody's crazy, and co-founders of their own company. And today, they're about to give us the real. We're talking friendship, marriage, motherhood, finding the people who show up for you, and tell you what you need to hear, even when you don't always want to hear it. So, let's get into it. Baby, this is Kiki Palmer. Today's episode is brought to you by Nordic naturals. The number one selling Omega 3 brand in the US over 80% of us aren't getting enough Omega 3s from food alone. And that's a gap worth closing. Nordic naturals is here to help you discover the power of Omega 3. Now, let's get into it. Baby, this is Savannah James and April McDaniels. They already haven't flown back here. Come on out, girls. Hey, girls, you look so good. Come on, the blonde, pop it in now. How are you? You look beautiful too. I'm so ready for the girl time of it all. We're lily about to cut up, yes, fashions. I feel like we all knew what we came here to do. Yes, how y'all feeling? Good vibes. Today is good. It's not that early. No, it's not bad. Yeah, right. It's a chill vibe. Well, I'm so happy to have you on the show. You know, I live for you. Like, I've been waiting for our time to get together on and off camera. It's a bento. Come on, Virgo. Yes. You just had a birthday. I did a big one. 48. I got a great though. Girl, you look incredible. Period. Okay, well, let's get into this pre-show pull-up. What is your zodiac sign? Of course. Perfect match. Do y'all know y'all's moon and rising? Yes, ma'am. Okay, so what is your season? Yes, ma'am. Okay, I get them confused, but I believe Gemini moon, Pisces rising or Pisces. So we got a little bit of air and we got a little bit of water. It's getting crazy. Yes. We have to keep this fight stuck because you know that Virgo and us can get a little bit boring. No shades. You know I live for everybody knows I love being a Virgo. But if we don't have a little bit of extra spice, we can get a little too even keel. Because I got the sag moon. And that sag moon keeps me up. What about you, Abram? I am sag moon and tors rising. Oh, double tors. Period. I always say this about all tors is y'all are always somewhere looking cute. I don't know what it like. They give that aesthetic credit to the Libras, but every tors I know is always just so cute somewhere. I don't know what it is. We put together. Yes. It's like we always talk about this because we have a debate about the scarf to the bed and the bonnet. Okay. I have an issue with the bonnet. What's tell me to tell me to deal with the bonnet girl put me on the game. Yeah, like waking up to a bonnet is a no for me. So what are you in? Are we talking like a cute scarf? A cute scarf. Like it's like the silk one. Yes. But how can you keep it all together under there? Oh, it's just kind of. You can't. You can't. To me, I'm picking up to a head that's not done. Like now I got to overly do it because I want to be cute and asleep. Yeah, but I don't know what I wake up cute. I love that the both is a vibe. I do it on my show on the verbs. They have it to where my character. She has the scarf on first. And then she puts the bonnet on top and I'm like maybe I need to do that. I do. I just be slept at damn bonnet on calling it a day. Okay, what is your love language? And I like to break it down like this. How do you recognize when you're being loved? And how do you like to show love? Oh, my love language is definitely quality time. Yes, I feel most aloved when you are just wanting to spend time with me and gazing to my eyes and talk to me and to all of the things and like spend time doing things that we've never done before. Yeah, requires time. I think the way that I give love. It's probably quality time. When you was rubbing on my leg, you had something else. The way that I do love. I was like, I got into the imagery now. I think it's quality time too. Fabulous. Quality time is everything. Especially like I say, for us earth signs, we need to be talking and, you know, what it would, what it would call us, home bodies. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. What about you, April? I think mine is acts of service. Okay. When I give love. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm going to show up 110%. What do we need to do? What do we need to get done? I think mine's used to be gifts. But people think that gifts means like elaborate. And I'm more like thoughtful like I want to know. I want to something. Sentimental and very thoughtful. So that kind of gift, not the fabulous version of what people see. Like, you know, some ice birthday and you're getting gifted a car. Like, I'm good on that. I don't need that. Yeah, yeah, unless it was like my dream card, and I wanted a 60 something, I gave exactly what you mean. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's how you like to receive it. Yes, yes, that's how I like to receive it. Yeah, what is something that your friends roast you for? If y'all friends roast y'all, you know, we're roasted. Yeah, we get roasted. We get roasted and we roast. Roast. Perry, come on to does something I get roasted about. Probably the fact that so my stylist Casey, love him so much. Hey Casey, he does an amazing job dressing me. But he roast me because he like you got all this stuff in here. You never want to go nowhere or do nothing. So that goes back to the home body. But like, why not, like, are you okay? I got it just in case though. Yeah, when the moment comes, we're ready. We're ready, we're ready, so we're ready, so we're ready. Period. I feel you in there. Sometimes I'll put something on and there's still got the tag on it. Always. And I'm like, oh, yeah, I can't remember how I had this. Where'd she come from? Okay, literally, literally. What about you, Dave? I feel like I get roasted for a lot of things. Mm-hmm. Yes. Is it Savannah doing the roasting? All of them. They all roast me. First of all, I get roasted for being me. Well, sometimes you need to be a little bit stern with [bleep] I get roasted for being me. I think that's probably the biggest one. Okay, wait, let's describe me. Like, what I see is mean is not what other see is mean. So yours is more not aligned. I'm just not aligned with you. Yeah, like I'm boundaries. She's not like, say the two of you are out. And you're my friend. I'm walking up like, oh my god. Oh my god, girl, let me see. And this is your friend. And I'm like, hey, so oh my god, let me tell you. That gives tourists. Right, but yeah, I still said, hey. Yeah, you say, hey, but it's like, I don't know you like that. I can't give you all of that same energy. No, but people get very upset about that. The Virgo in me is doing too much with everybody. It's, I don't know, I don't know if you feel like that is a Virgo. Maybe your other signs are balancing you out. But I'm always like, when somebody else is there, I'm like, hey girl, and wonderful to meet you too. - Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, you stressed me out. - I'm gonna show love to the world. - Yeah, I think that's a verbal thing that we feel like we've got to do all that. I mean, it's not no wrong or no right, but it's literally just personality, like how you're working on it. I'm working on it. I am working on it because my friend's roasting me so bad, I had to practice how to say, nice to see you again. - Definitely, but it also feels like there's something about it, it also feels very boss diva of it all, that I really love as well. - I want to be nice, I'm trying to talk to you. - It gives CEO energy, I'm trying to talk to you. - It's nice to see you again even though I've never seen you in my life. - It's great to see you, love it. - It is worse when they're like, we've met before. - Oh, girl, I'm having a problem. - What can I say now? - That was my one letter, that's all I got, it's nice to see you again. - Nice to see you. - That's all I'm gonna say. - Literally. - Okay, what is one move? And if you need to give me a couple, go ahead, give me a couple. But what is one move you could watch over and over and over? - Why are you all linked to each other like that? - Baby don't got no movies. - You got a movie watch, your mama. - I want TV or movies. - Why, babe? - It just, it all. - It boards you? - The whole thing stresses me out. - Oh my gosh. - Really, no favorite TV show going up. - You need my girlfriend? - I mean, I've seen it. - Family matters. - I've seen it all when I was younger, but it's not really where I enjoy spending my time. - Okay, so wait, before I get on her movies, I got a sideline with you now. What is your judge? Like, if it's not going to the movies, like, is it like, are you going to the beach? Do you like going shopping? Like, what is your thing? - I like to spend a lot of alone time. - Okay, period. - I spend time with my friends.
- Sure, sure. - Like quality time. I'll go take a walk. I'll journal. - Love to journal. - I love an Aaron. (laughs) - Come on in the corner of my matcha. - Over the errands. - Way to the errands. And I am very thoughtful. So like I'm always doing something out. Right now my hobby is I have pin pals. I have five of them. - How did you find them? - So I posted on Instagram. I have like my own little page where I have the public one. And I just like, hey, if anybody wants me to send you a letter, send me your address. And people wrote back and I've been pinpalling like my friends across the United States. - I think that's very sweet and cute. - Yeah, I love that. - I just feel like that is what I'd prefer to do than to watch somebody else emotionally fall apart on that Tuesday. - Uh-oh. - That I'd be stressed and I'd be put on a comedy and just land. - I can't, right? - Okay, what about you, Savannah? What are the movies or a movie that you go on to love? - So I am a horror fanatic. I love watching horror movies. And to be honest, I mean, I'm a classic 80s horror film girl. So any of those Nightmare on Elm Street, Freddie Krueger, I didn't know that. - I live with Freddie. - I live with Freddie, it's him. - Friday the 13th. - Oh my gosh, yes. - I go watch those over and over. I love Bryce Mays. It's one of my favorite movies. I go watch it at any point that I see on the TV. I'ma turn it on. And I'm a Tyler Berry fan. - Oh, dang, I love me, Tyler Berry. - Daker, I literally, me and my family watch why don't I give Mary the new in three times? - All right. - How did we do it? - I'll do it too much. We should not get laughing at all the same jokes. Look at Tasha, ah, like too much. But I live for Tyler as well. I'm so excited. He's got a new movie that he's getting ready to do with my friend Taylor Page, which I'm so excited. And we'll see you in Lavers County. But I'm here for it all. He's got his own genre. - Yes, he does. - Okay, so we got our little pre-show pullup. I mean, guys, before we really get into it, you guys are often talking about, you know, the crazies on your show, on your podcast. So before taking the calls from real people, I mean, we got to figure out today, like, what are the crazies that you guys are experiencing right now? What is the crazy in your life? - The crazy in my life. - And if I give you mine. - Okay. - The crazy in my life is the fact that I have to figure out how to be three places at once. That is crazy. I tried not to think about it because I'm like, it's gonna stress me out. And I know it has to happen. But that is crazy. And what are the three places? I mean, I know LA and I know LeBron just LA. Starting to do is Philly, Philly, Philly, and what's the other place? - So there's a little caveat to that. So New York will be the hub. So it will be LA, New York, and Philly. - Yeah. - And my son is in school in Tucson, Arizona. So along with his season, he's everywhere else. So trying to play in my life out like that is a little crazy for me, you know. - That's gonna take that organizing, that scheduling. - Yeah. - That scheduling is a full-time job. - It is. - Oh my gosh. - Well, one thing is off it though, my whole day, all the way. - Literally. Like, is there much given, where is Waldo? Where is Savannah today? - Right, exactly. - You know what I mean? - Exactly. - What about you, Lakeville? - My crazy is kind of getting acclimated. We put all these businesses together and getting acclimated with all the businesses. And while also not trying to be the same leader that I was before. - Wait a minute, let's get it said that. What did you, 'cause leadership, I was gonna say my crazy is, I'm in a distillation phase, a stewardship phase. You know, I've been working and demonstrating my craft. And now it's like, I'm trying to be a different type of leader of what I'm doing. So when you said that, please break it down of what type of leader you were and what you realized about leadership. - Yeah, I mean, I've realized a lot about myself. And I think in doing the inner work to learn about yourself, you figure out like how you wanna lead and how you wanna be led. And I think when you're at the top, you're like, oh, I'm the only one leading. So for many years, I was by myself as a partner. So now I'm in partnership, which is very odd. Like for me, 'cause I was doing it so long by myself. And I just think knowing that you can't control people. - Yeah. - Like, okay, that is what it's gonna be. Like that just happened, oh my God. I often, for many years, would be in shock. Like I'd be like, what just happened? I can't believe they did it. It's a bit of me like, yeah, they did it. I would be like, you're okay with it. Yeah, like, and it's just like the understanding that it's not gonna be all in your control, but it will be okay. - Yeah. And to trust people and to learn how to collaborate in a way that is conducive for them to bring their best self out, it's actually really difficult, though. - It is very difficult. - You know, you don't even know, it's not even like somebody is trying to be controlling. It's just like, you think that just because you said something or you've explained something that it's gonna land the way that you set it. - All right. - And it's just like, you know, a lot of managing relationships. - A lot of managing. And I think the more you get to the top, the less creative it is up there. - Interesting. - 'Cause there's more people and there's more things. So trying to keep the creative at the nucleus, so you don't lose it because that's what makes most founders so great. - Yeah. How has that helped in terms of you expanding in your team, right? Like, 'cause if you have to be thinking about the money or the KPIs or whatever these things that you're thinking about, how has it been for you to like be like, okay, well, this is the people that I can trust over here. And these are, how have you been learning? I feel like we're learning. Savannah is very creative and very whimsy. So like when I'm very serious, she's like, well, we can do that. I'm like, where are we going to get the money from? I'm sure you'll know where we get the money from. - Don't worry, don't worry. I'm like, well, how much is it going to cost? Don't worry, don't worry about it. And I'm like, well, wait a second. Do you have a plan? No. I don't have a plan. Like what? - Oh my God. - So, but it's nice 'cause it makes you remember why you started it. And I think I've been very rigid as a leader. When you're like the one making the money and responsible for everybody, it can be quite rigid. - Yes, so to have the complex dynamics has made it also really joyful for me. And just to be like, it's okay. Y'all gonna figure it out. - Yeah. - And maybe not how quick you thought or how you thought it was, but it will work out, which has been really nice. - Where do most of y'all, what I'm seeing you guys talking about here for us, I've figured to myself, where do most of your board meetings go down? And I use board meetings in quotes because like, are y'all in the sauna? Are y'all on the couch? You know, is it over dinner? Is it while you're getting your hair done? Nails done? Where do y'all use it? - If I go find her. - First of all. - Okay, right, where's Savannah? - First of all. - First of all. - I would say a lot of things, that's false. - A lot of things. - A lot of dinners. - Yeah. - I live for the dinners of it all. - A lot of dinners. - I like a notebook though. So I've had to conform 'cause I like it to be formal. - Yeah. - I'm very formal. - Yeah. - Savannah's very like, okay. And then I'll be, I'll be coming with a little no pad up. You've been gone three days, I have 68 notes. Like I've even so many notes as Savannah's like, just relax, let's have a drink. You want to express so much eating? - I'm like, we need to make a decision here. I have to call the lawyer here. We have to do this. She's like, it's gonna be okay. - We're gonna be fine. - Do y'all have a favor to let this happen? - Hmm. - My house. - Yeah. - Little y'all home, yeah. - My house. - My chef is amazing. We got all the drinks, all the wine. So what do you want to do? - Yes! - I'm gonna heal for that fine. - This is what you want to do. - I'm gonna be there taking notes with y'all. - So what do you want to do? - We have to go back to line item five. - Right. - How many days? - That's literally. - It's red sheet, I want a deck, I want the board. - Good, I got into a period of my life while I was making a deck every afternoon. - But you make a creative deck. - Girl, why do those decks can get you into tail space? - Yes. - Because they show you a lot of ideas. - Girl, it's ridiculous. - I have like 2026 Kiki Pomerco, Kiko System for 2026. I was like, hey team, this is the new deck. 40 pages, girl, calm down. - Yes! - I love it. - I would be like, okay, what are we doing? How do we execute? - Yes. - We're talking about LeBron's changing teams. Zuri is now entering the sixth. Gray, this is crazy. Your family is entering a new chapter, Savannah. So how would you describe what it feels like for you? Has it really settled in? Do you feel different? I think to be honest, I feel different because while all of these things are happening around me, it's amazing. LeBron going to play in Philly is going to be an adjustment, but it is going to work out. Zuri going into the middle school is an adjustment, but it's going to work out. And then the boys are kind of living their own lives, but I think the way that it feels for me is that I feel different in myself. In like the work that I've done and the way that I wanted to feel going into this milestone age, so it's not necessarily that it feels different because all of the things are happening. It's really just because of how I'm looking at it from the outside I guess in. And I'm just a lot more comfortable with, like because you say LeBron's going to Philly five years and got to be like, huh? Well, we got to pack up everything Zuri. I don't care how you feel, we is going. You know what I'm saying? So now I'm just like a lot more like, okay, and calm and everything is going to be okay. And we can visit and do the thing. So I just feel like it's really how I'm feeling more. So then, you know, how much of it is reflective of how you thought 40 would be like and how much of it is like, oh, this is completely different. Oh no, I had a plan. I went into this like, I want to feel a certain way. I want to look at the next 40 if you will. Yeah. Of my life and not be, I guess questioning myself or decisions that I make and all of those types of things. So that was not the case before. So I am happy to be in this place right now. It feels good.
I love that so much.
And then LeBron said that Zuri had a voice in him going and playing for the 70s.
Sixers.
So I mean, how does she feel about his decision?
She was trying to figure it out like, so am I not going to see him?
Like, how is this going to work?
Um, so, but we also asked her like, so you can go to school like we can go to New York.
We can go to Philly and she's actually like, yeah, I'm volleyball and school.
I don't want to be away from school for that long.
I still want to play with my teammates.
So she really was just kind of like, okay, like we'll still visit.
I'll have my time, but I still get to go and do what I want to do, like with my friends
and my teammates.
I love the autonomy surrounding that.
And it's really, I love to hear it because for me with Leo, he's three, my son.
And so he doesn't have maybe that much understanding or context around what I do and how it affects
his school and his life.
He's still at that stage where learning is he could be in something, but it's not going
to make a break it.
But that's going to change soon.
And when it comes to me traveling, I'm always wondering, like, you know, would he rather
be home schooled?
You know, so he can be with me or would he rather be in school?
So I love hearing this and just getting that perspective as they get older with the kind
of lifestyles that we have, like how do we have those conversations with them and make
sure they feel autonomous and not just in a pindage in terms of our life and our dreams,
but that they're their own person and they still can be connected to us.
And at their opinion on whatever that is, it actually matters.
And the world doesn't always revolve around what we have going on, but what they think is
just as important.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I really love that.
You know, I was interested to realize, first of all, Rest in Peace, Dali Parton, I cannot
believe we lost her.
So crazy.
But when I was getting ready to talk to you guys, I found out able that you literally love
Dali Parton and have enough memorabilia for a museum.
Like, girl, what's the tea with that?
I just love her.
I think she's such a queen and I think what I really loved about her, she was so big
to everybody, but how kind she was and how compassionate she was.
And I think being human is so important.
So I just loved how she let her life, how she carried, and I just look back at old videos
of her and just how she accepted like black icons and black women and how she embodied
long nails when they were considered ratchet or, you know, had stigmas too.
A lot of awareness.
Yes.
A lot.
And really like the donation and giving to kids that are under privilege, like, I just love
all of who she was as a human, not to mention her music and everything else, but queen.
Yes.
I couldn't agree with you more.
I got the pleasure of working with her.
I did a joyful noise with her and queen Latifa.
And I'll never forget how kind she, everything you're saying, how kind she was to me.
How thoughtful, how perceptive she was of my experience, you know what I'm saying?
How she made us lemon bars on set.
I mean, she was really giving queen.
I mean, she was just awesome.
She really really good.
Yeah.
Last year, I was supposed to see her.
She had like four shows in Vegas as she canceled.
And I was so sad because I was like, this is my last chance to see her like, I knew she
was getting older, obviously, but I mean, queen, do you have a favorite like that?
Is there a favorite of yours, singer, actor, artist, anybody that you're like, oh, I always
love them growing up?
Well, unfortunately, I had that with Michael Jackson.
That was like, I remember when he was going on the "This Is It" tour, I'm like, I am going
to London to the O2 to see this show.
Yeah.
I couldn't do it.
But ever since a kid, I was sorry.
Did you watch Michael?
Absolutely.
Me too, girl.
I was in there like, that was amazing.
Okay, I know you girls are very busy, but I know you guys live for a girl's trip.
And I heard that Morocco was next on the list, so I mean, what are we doing when we go?
Like, and I say we, because I'm inviting, like, we just found out right now that, you know,
how do we find it with us?
I was sightseeing, shopping, like, what is the deal?
We are mapping out the whole, I'm the planner.
This one has a full eye today.
I have the full eye today.
How are you doing?
Where there's no work on your job?
It's there.
We're doing the best of everything.
I love it.
We're calling and arranging everything in advance, so there's no challenges, because I don't
enjoy challenges.
So we're doing it all.
I mean, I think we travel to see it all.
Yeah.
Like, the culture of it.
Yeah.
The people, like, have you been to Africa at all before?
I just went to Africa for four weeks.
Where did you go?
Four weeks is a wonderful amount of time.
You really got to be up in there somewhere like that.
I really was up in there.
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
The country.
Yes, I was Nigeria, Cape Town, Kenya, Rwanda, and the Seychelles.
Now, the Seychelles, I'm not even familiar with, don't get me online, but I'm not from what's
the Seychelles.
It was very fabulous.
Like, I had to end it in pure luxury, because it's a very luxurious sensation.
It's an island.
Right off the coast.
Right off the coast.
Africa, yeah.
The way they were looking at my eyes right now, I feel like I'm there with you.
But she's like bottled water, $18.
I see.
We're there.
What?
$18 bottle water?
Don't do much.
Listen, listen.
We were there for four or five days and we had to go.
Right.
Give me an amount of years.
Listen.
It was not in the budget.
Okay.
But it was amazing.
Quick, quick, a couple of things about the trip that you, that you're like, this is what
I feel like I gained there or this is what I feel like.
Oh, my gosh.
I mean, every country I wanted to learn about it first, I wanted to step outside my comfort
zone.
It was the Gorilla Trek, which where you trek up to the mountain to and a half hours to
sit with some gorillas in their kind of area.
That's it.
Yes.
It was wild.
And it was violent.
Yeah.
19 of them.
19.
Yes.
So I was with the family.
Yes.
And we have like, you was with the family.
Yes.
The whole family.
It was four silverbacks.
Oh.
It was crazy.
It was very, so not sitting.
It was not African-American.
No, it was.
We was honest.
Right.
But I said I was going to do it.
And so what was their energy?
How did they?
They were minding their business.
So did they acknowledge you at all?
Not really.
They, they, they, one of them moved, one of my sons out the way.
They just like move.
They're very human.
Yeah.
Okay.
But they don't, what I didn't know is that they are, they don't eat meat.
They don't want to.
They don't want to.
They don't want to.
- Yeah, they'll bite you to--
- They won't-- - They won't really bite you
as long as you're very respectful.
They're like very respectful.
- So how was y'all acting?
- Not y'all, I was, I was like this.
(both laughing)
Out of his mouth, I was stupid.
I was very still, but they were like,
like a baby was like right where Savannah's knee is.
The dad was like where you are.
- And y'all was y'all jumping to people's house like that?
- Yes.
- And they were just taking naps.
They had sex while we were there.
- Oh my gosh.
- They are very accustomed to people watching them.
- Yes.
- But do they get food or something for letting y'all be there?
Did somebody give 'em something there?
- They eat the off the trees.
They just like,
- I feel like something about this thing.
- Right.
- Let's say I'm paid to be in the people out there.
- You have to see.
- They only do 2,000 permits a year.
- Like, it's a very ancient.
- No, but they're like they're very,
They were very, it's given Jerry Springer.
If these humans have been in your house,
you do have compensation for it.
- Oh my God.
- But the babies want to play with you.
Like the babies like how the mamas and the daddy
feel about that.
But the babies know, like they get very close.
They're like,
man, man, man.
- Yeah.
- And then they show off.
They like spin, they flip, they're like showing off,
but you can't like engage with them.
You have to act like you,
because they're trying to get you to react.
They're very smart animals though.
- Oh my gosh. - And closest to humans.
- Guys, that is absolutely remarkable.
That's an incredible experience.
You were very brave. - But listen,
what I have to say is I shouldn't,
I did not look on YouTube before going there,
but afterwards, I was like,
oh, this was crazy. - What happened to you?
- They were glad they was after work.
- Yes, what would they do?
- So they like, some of them like grab a cell phone
and throw it in the woods, like they're,
'cause they don't want you on their house.
- Yeah, like some of them are annoyed.
- Yes, my family got it in there.
- Yeah, they can, they can.
- Yes, yes, yes.
- Oh my gosh, because that is actually crazy.
When you really sit down and think about it,
why don't you stay up humans?
Keep coming in our house.
- Yes.
- That's incredible.
Oh my gosh.
- That was crazy.
- So it was a remarkable trip.
So now we're on our way to Morocco
and we're gonna enjoy what Morocco has to offer.
- Yes, we're definitely getting outfits.
- Absolutely.
- Now what do we mean by outfits?
- We're in the outfits in the culture.
- Oh my gosh, yes, we got our specs.
- Yeah, we did the Germany, we did the China.
- Oh my gosh, so with it, we're gonna go see
all the amazing hotels, you know, there's like a YSL hotel
and there's like all of these, oh my goodness,
yes.
- Yes, yes, we're doing it anyway.
- Well, I can't wait for our trip, okay.
So Savannah, you're from Akron, come on Midwest,
I'm for a show, yes.
And you're from New Jersey, so how do you guys see
those different, you know, parts of the world
come together with me, y'all friendship.
Do you feel very Jersey?
Do you feel very Philly?
- 'Cause you grew up in Philly.
- Well like my dad was from Philly.
- Go birds, I know that's some.
- Listen.
- And then I went to Temple.
- Okay, yeah.
- I feel very Philly.
So that's more like drug dealer vibes.
Come on, I mean with them, with them beers.
They gon' get you them beer things up in Philly.
- Yes.
- You too, not about this one.
(all laughing)
- You too, you know.
- I'm gonna do one of these in a polo sweatsuit.
- Yes! - That's my vodka.
- Love that.
- Love that.
- What about you?
You feel very--
I do, I feel very like, you know, that's where that calm, cool, collective nature comes from. 'Cause they have a lot going on at Akron, so. Yeah, I don't think I've ever been there before. What is it, is it giving more countryside or is it giving more northern? 'Cause you know, in Chicago, it can be very southern, even though people can, you know, say it's. No, I would say northern country-ish, because we have a lot of farm areas, so you can be driving. Yep. Next thing you know, is giving full children a corn? So, that's something Chicago for sure. Just kind of low key. Yeah. Okay, so you guys start, you met when you started doing events for LeBron. Me. You started doing events for LeBron. That's how y'all met. And I heard you immediately notice that she had, Savannah had lots on her mind, but she wasn't sad. What does that mean? 75 months pregnant. Yeah, she was just like, finding her business, but Savannah is very observant. So, how did you get, I mean, how did you guys, I'm like, I'm gonna notice you. I was like, I'm gonna notice you. What was she looking at? 'Cause I wanna laugh. You were so much going on in that party. And you was like, you know, you ever be at a party and it's like so many dynamics. Of course. I'm pregnant. I mean, that was. Yeah. She's over there. So, I wanna keep key. And so, you just started. I'm working. You guys just started talking. And then the friendship developed. And she was taking care of me. Like, when I say I was big and pregnant, like huge, and she was coming check on me. Are you sure you okay? Well, nothing, I don't need nothing. I'm like, no, I'm good, I'm good. So, that's kinda where it started. Yes. Well, I mean, how did it get to the point where you guys consider. I mean, Harper's Bazaar, you say you guys are like each other's soulmates. So, how did that really develop? You know, what do you think he came from? What do you identify as that soulmate piece? Baby, this is. He keep calling me, yeah. So, here's something that genuinely surprised me. Over 80% of Americans are not getting enough omega-3s from food alone. 80%. It's effort to be like, talk, connect, learn each other, figure it out. So I think we got to know each other. We ended up being in the same city in Miami at one point. And it was like, we got to know each other. And then it's just like, effort to get to know somebody. I think people don't get to know people nowadays. It's like everything so fast and what you see on Instagram is supposed to be accurate. And like, oh, I saw you were sad on Instagram. I was sad six weeks ago. And it can be quite difficult, I think, as adults too. I guess kids, it's like you just, hey, and your friends, and it's easy. But as we get older, we have different experiences that take part in why or how easy it is for us to make friends. I mean, living the life that you live, living the life you live as a boss lady. I mean, both of you, both of you guys in different aspects, it can sometimes be like, do I need new friends? Right? I was like that. You get what I'm saying? Like, you know, and that's just not trustworthy. What was it about each other that said, you're worth the investment, and I'm going to choose. Right? 'Cause you, I don't know, imagine that you need more friends. Yeah. For me, I think it was definitely the fact that April saw something in me that I didn't see it myself. No, what was that? Don't make me cry. What was it that you saw? Don't start it. Yeah, what did you see? No. Well, I love her. She's so great. Like, I feel like it's hard to sit amongst somebody so big and have your own identity. Yes. And I think she is a great mom. So I see in her what she may not see, but I also see things that I also lack. Yes, that I love, that I admire. So it's kind of like an exchange in a way. Yes. And just perspective. Like, she has a totally different perspective than me. Obviously, she's like, hey girl, I'm like, oh. So like, I mean, even the dynamics of like how we operate is so different. And I think I'm intrigued by that personally. Like, I like someone that challenges what I think is right. I want someone to be like, hmm. No. And Savannah is not scared. Like, it's so funny when people are like, she doesn't talk. And she, I'm like, she doesn't talk. Like, she definitely talks. She's not talking to you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But she's definitely talking to you. You forgot to use that. Yeah. So she's very vocal and very, also very smart. Yeah. But you could tell that, you know, obviously, I don't know LeBron that well. But any time that somebody is like, it takes a family to create that outcome. Yes. For his success. Yes. I know because people see Kiki Palmer. But it's Larry, Sharon, Lorielle, Lawrence, that made Kiki Palmer. So it's obvious that we didn't may not see everything, right? Yeah. But LeBron sees people that are in your life see. They know why and how this even happened. And it's not, it's because of you. So it's one of those things where it's interesting. I think, if I can speak to it like from the outside, very exciting to be like, yes. Because we need to know like, how did she do this? How did you do this? It's been a very exciting thing to see that part of you open up. Because we know, especially us women, we know like, that's the key. It's almost like our people feel about Michelle with Barack. Yeah. It's like, now she's the one I need to talk to you. Because we know what it takes. It takes a really strong foundation for anything of what we see on the outside to happen. So it's very exciting and it's dope that you've had a collaborator and a friendship in that to be able to both you guys use your strengths to bring that to the public. Because we need it. Yeah. I don't think we meant to bring it to the public. But we're here. Wait a minute, let's get into that. What was the accidental that got you? I don't think we should do that. Because we're pretty private. Right. Like so. And we like it. Yeah. Like it here. We be outside, but not outside. We be outside. We be outside. It's giving very pulled up. Yes. I'm here for the pulled up of it all. Giving, let's take the veil off. So I feel like it is very private. But I think what we were asked to do a show. Yeah. And we went and did a filming. Yeah. And I was like, this is weird. And we did the filming. And I was like, this is so fake. Because they were like, so give us your opinion. And we were like, what? Yeah. And then we would give our opinion. And our opinion wasn't favorable. Correct. Right. Whatever that means. Right. Because people believe you should maybe have a certain type of opinion. Yeah. So we were like, that was not fun. So like, what should we do? And we were like, let's talk to some people. She's like, you remember back in a day we used to call the radio show? And like, people would answer, I'm like, oh yeah, how can we do it? I'm a post on my Instagram, a cell phone number. I was like, I'm going to go to the gas station and get a burner phone. So I went and got a burner phone from the gas station. We posted the phone number on Instagram. And people was, the phone was blowing up. We was blowing up. I love the code of it all. We were like, I know. I know. We were so disheveled. And that's how your podcast, everybody's crazy. Yeah. Was created. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And they're telling you all the crazy situations of their lives, which is like insane. What do you think that it is that makes people want to, why they should be sharing their stories at this time? You know, and why they want to, right? Because it's like, it's a big vulnerability that we don't often see. Yeah. I think it's like a community and just having the space and area to be able to vent about whatever is going on in their life. Yeah. I am appreciative that we have.
people to call us and to talk about whatever it is on a mind from something that's really serious to something that's super light. Like I feel like to be able to give our perspective on it is really cool, especially for people who don't necessarily have that outlet. And I think that's what a lot of it is. It's just no open space to talk freely and not be judged and feel like they could just be themselves. I think it's the other thing of people calling in and just like whatever your truth is. And I'm often always surprised. I'm like, what? Savannah's like, pull it together. I was like, OK, I'm gonna put it together with a lyric. But I feel like there is-- everyone goes through something in your day that you just think that was so crazy like a few times. Yes. All of us. And no one is really talking about that. Yeah. Like the challenges of it all, or the challenges of being a mom that travels, or the challenges of living in three different states, basically, at this point, or whatever your reality is, just knowing that no one has it, like-- To pack down. Yeah. What have you learned from people that they're willing to tell essentially strangers that they maybe even tell people that are closest to them? We all have something in common, whether it's from a marriage perspective, whether it's from a dating perspective, a friendship perspective. Like we all going through pretty much the same thing. The human experience. Yeah, I love that. There's something that's so true about the specificity that becomes universally known. Like you know what I'm saying? The specificity of your situation actually makes somebody see themselves in your situation more, because then they're like, oh, that's like me with this, except it's this way. It's very interesting how that happens. I mean, people call into y'all for some crazy things. I mean, they talk about three sums. And honestly, I use crazy lightly. Because I mean, maybe three sums is normal to you. Normal Friday. Yes. Friendship, breakups, what kind of-- what confessions, like, do y'all still be like, that was crazy when they came and told us, blah, blah. It's funny, because I'm dyslexic. So, yeah, interesting fact. But girl, don't ask me to write you an email, because you'd be like, huh? So what lady called did try to talk about monogamy? OK. And she said, mahogany. Come on, she wants to see Diane and me. So I was like, what? And she's like, mahogany. And this is where Savannah's so great, and probably because she's my friend. Because I'm dyslexic, and obviously, like that. And she was like, are you trying to say of monogamy? And the lady's like, yeah, that word, that word. We were laughing so hard, because it was just like-- she could relate. I was totally lost in the conversation. I'm like, what is this lady trying to say? She's talking about it. And Savannah got it right away. And I was like, see you being my friend. God, do you translate. But just like the uniqueness of how people think, words that they're not even familiar with. Sure, sure. And that's the reality. That may not be something she's using on an everyday basis. Exactly, exactly. And just being able to relate and conversate, and people just had a hoot about that. They thought it was so fun. And we need to help each other. You say, mahogany, we say mahogany. Mahogany, OK, it's fine. Whatever, what we talk about. What kind of themes do you see showing up the most? Oh, and the young girls are stressed. In which category? Not feeling like they're doing enough. About work. About work. Men. Work and men. Not feeling like they're doing enough about work. Not feeling like, what more could we be doing for the men? What would they be thinking they're not doing enough there? Just like dating. I think finding people being fearful. They're not going to find their person, their partner, being alone. Like, but I'm talking about young girls. Like, under 20. Yeah. And honestly, I'm sure with you, you kind of have this-- people have projected such a perfect picture thing on to you. I'm curious with the podcast, have you shared things that you were even surprised that you shared, or just also seeing the way that people engage with seeing that you are human and not just a symbol? Yeah, I think there have been a few things that have come out that people go, oh, OK, Malisha, she's saying that. And people need to say, podcast Mike's the way because they're talking too much, but it's real. Yeah. I'm surprised that they were surprised that you would do the strip club before. It's like, guys, yeah, we all been doing it. I've been doing it. It's always like me. One girl told me her stripper name was almost a Keela. I said, come on, spell it with the ass. I was here for that. It's fun. Like, didn't we all use to be in our bedroom? Shake and I booty, try to see if we could do it. Yes, sure. Come on, Mike. It's like the twerk queen, young men to twerk too. You know, we sell to be booby ankles. I'm like, hi. It's very hard to move yanks. Yes, it is. They always say that in an ankle, the synthesizer. You know, my **** is still. Yeah, you too. Me too. I seen somebody last night doing something. She was like just doing like this to her, but I was so-- I was just like, yes, the stuff. You'd be so happy for us. Yes, for us. And so it's very-- yeah, imagine it's very interesting. But what makes you say, you know, what I want to still do is, because that can make some people, even for me, in my experience, or being a public eye for years, you can be like, what ****? You know, well, can't win for losing. What keeps you kind of deciding to engage? I think that that's what it is. Like, everybody is not going to align with everything. And it's OK. That's why we have conversations. That's why we have perspectives. Like, I think that, you know, for me, it was like, I didn't know she talked, which is like the craziest thing I ever heard before. But just like, I didn't-- like, what? But just because I didn't talk in public-- To y'all. To y'all didn't have a perspective or opinions about things. So I think, for me, it was really therapy, because it's like, I do have a voice. I do have something to say. It is something important that I feel like is important to me, but that I would like to share. So-- Yeah. And you have a platform in your symbol to women. You're somebody that-- I mean, you guys are iconic as a family, and you individually. So it definitely is like something that, when you decide, and as you've decided, that it will benefit people. And there's definitely a lot that they could learn. So it's dope. For you, April, being in front of the-- people seeing you also, you're being projected upon two. So-- Oh, I get roasted all along. Yeah, like, they do not agree. They do not agree. And I also don't care. That's the funny part about me. I don't have TikTok. Yeah, I don't have Twitter. I be in my own world, on my own little thing. Yes, and people, do you want me to write you a letter? While you're over here being like, oh, she said, I'm like, God bless. People will say, like, did you see in the comments? And I'm like, no, I don't read comments. And also, the funny thing about it is, we got into this thing where it's like, everything is about, like, do you agree or disagree? When it's like, people are just talking, guys. Yes. They're just talking in their world. In real life, when I'm in a conversation with somebody, they say something I don't agree with. I don't say, now wait a minute. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because what do you mean, you don't like pizza? Yeah. But the internet culture is very interesting, because it's like, guys, in everyday life, don't we all know that everybody's not going to like what we say or agree with what we say? That what we then call is like, well, they're not my people. I have my people, and then I have people that aren't my people. You may not be my people, and that's OK. I cannot change who I am and what I believe in to satisfy you. Correct. That's not real. That's the hard part about the internet. And I feel like, even when it goes to our show and young girls calling in the pressure for people to perform a certain type of way, to be a certain type of person, to have a certain type of job, to do all these things. I'm like, girl, you are 19. Yes. You have a second. Take a breath. It is OK. Like, you're not supposed to have a Birken bag in '19. Like, that is not a realistic-- The pressure of that is really, really huge. Because to me, it goes deeper to the conversation that we're all trying to have around value. You want to be valued. So you think I need to get something expensive on my arm, because then people will see that I'm a value. You want to be seen. So you think I need to be famous, because that's what being seen is what I'm going to say. Being famous is the easiest way to be erased. You're not seen with fame. Buying expensive things, and putting them-- that's actually-- nobody's going to perceive you of value. Value, you perceive in yourself a value, and filling a value, is based off of how you feel about yourself. Correct. And I also think it's values. Let's start there. How about-- let's have some values. Yes. Let's be grounded in something real that doesn't require money or validation. The externalized stuff. So much of what people are wanting is being-- they think it's external, but it's internal. I mean, you guys get so many calls about filling behind. I know you have to move to New York, had sex and city idea of your life. I love it. But it took a minute for those things for your success to happen. Talk to that. About what was that experience like for you? And how did you reframe your expectations in order to get what you have now? Yeah, I think it really was being in my own lane. I've always been like that. Like tunnel vision to whatever's for me is going to be for me and not worrying about how you get there. Because even when I graduate, I graduated with a PR degree and called my mom. Called my mom, and so I was going to go work at a nightclub. She was like, what? And I was like, I'm going to do events 100 and under. And it's the best nightclub in New York City. And my mom was like, you're going to go to hell. Working at that nightclub. Like, because she really was a super prey to-- She really was. She's a church. She's a church. So she was like, you went to college to do that. And I mean, I learned so much. I worked for those guys for 13 years. It was one of the best experiences, something that I could never even write. But it wasn't textbook.
It wasn't like buy the book. This is how it's gonna go and I also came up in a time where you didn't see what Everybody else was doing. So now it's like you see what everyone is doing and you're expected to be doing more And I think it goes back to values and what is important to you. Yes I'm a moment timetable. Yes, and come up with your own timetable and give yourself some grace because it's not gonna work out how you plan Yeah, it's not it never does, but if you if you believe in the alignment of it all which we've kind of been touching on throughout this conversation Then you're gonna end up where you're supposed to. Yeah, that's why sometimes we can't be so rigid on what we think is gonna get us what we want But really following that that that inner feeling. What does that look like for you guys like when you think about like getting down to the nitty gritty of Of what it is. You're feeling like is it a prayer? Are you meditating? Are you going on a run or walk? You know what what allows you to say. I'm not sure about this. This is the answer. What gives you that? For me, it's she gonna hate that I said this, but it's kind of taking space to myself like I got to disassociate with the world Yeah, I got to close my phone. I got to be in my comfort zone being my home Yes, and just kind of evaluate all of the things that's going on maybe turn on some frequencies Maybe to a little bit of a meditation walk, but definitely I love to go infrequent Yeah, I have to go inside on by myself. 5,000 watts What about you April? Um, I am very blessed to have a good reaction to everything. Oh, that's fabulous But it also is very hard because I can it in a moment. I'll be like I can't do that like a few weeks ago I got in my car and I was like I cannot drive this car anymore and everybody was like what? I have to get rid of this car everyone was like you're Like that's crazy like it's a beautiful car. I can't I can't drive it It's something what would let you know I don't add I don't ask any questions. I love that the fact that I took that G wagon to car max Such a fabulous car They were like what I was like I have to get rid of this car and then I'd have gone to Mercedes after but still I was like okay, I didn't like that price. I didn't like the brand So I like but I For me, I don't ask any questions with my intuition. Yes, so it's been very it's it's very strong But it's it's hard because you have to you sometimes you don't know the why Yes, but you're following that that that's I would say that's God talking You know when when it's when it's when I can't track a back a thought back right like you know sometimes I think like oh is this for me or is this from what that movie I watch or is this from that you know I saw right so if I can't track it back then I know oh that was the source that was God that just planted it Yes, it's not track back to nobody ain't track back to no fear. It's track back to What I'm hearing exactly and I listened right away and I'm and I'm very Reactive fast like the car was going in 70s period my kids were like what happened to the cars is gone Now I don't want to box you guys in but this makes me quickly when I ask a fun thing You guys seem like girly girls you do You There's a specific kind of evening that only happens when the girls haven't seen each other in a few weeks Life got busy schedule stopped aligning somebody was traveling somebody was in their work error Somebody just needed to be horizontal or their couch for a little while no judgment But then one night the stars align and suddenly everyone's in the same room again Plates cleared from a friends giving spread that absolutely delivered Stellarosa doesn't just do wine. Yes, yes, or I don't know for still boy kind of which you know I feel like all over whatever's just cute. I love cute matching raw in underwear. Oh my gosh Dear girlie birdie queen. Very girl. What about you? Look at her eyes Um girlie. I am a girl and a girl's girl but girlie I feel like I know one thing to me about I don't know you that well But there's one thing that I feel like makes you really girly me. Yeah tell her I feel like your hair is always laid. Hmm. I feel like I've never seen you're not laid in your skin not clear So that's why I was gonna say I was gonna say self care. Yes, but so care is not just a you know like a girly thing But for me I like you know myself. Yeah, and that's why I said it when it completely boxes. It's like you know non-gender Performing like I don't want to do that, but you know, you know, I said it again. I'm like I ain't trying to You know what I mean, but you know, it's definitely myself. It's gonna be a girl's world Yeah, the girl is thing about me. Yeah, it would be this Like what's the theme of the night guys? I love hosting and curing a vibe for the girl It's so much fun Girl, I'm thinking about the store. We'll be going welcome to the view We are having a girl's house. So yeah, that I think is very girly about me But it's so funny with all the labels and stuff because you know also it's like I got a You know what I mean? I can be very much like what's good? Yeah, you know, and I mean we have so many different ways that we show up And I know that you guys just did you know, you flipped your format for the guys edition. Yeah, where you had Last year you had LeBron on you had Kaisa Nott Taco so what did that conversation feel like when it comes to what we're talking about right with the whole Guy way of seeing things and girls way of seeing things what lined up and what was like? I loved that episode and we need another we just we're talking about it not too long ago, but I feel like it's so necessary to hear from the men. It is nobody wants to hear but it's just good for us to just talk and have dialogue That's what I was going to say to perspective the conversation you know the different ways of You know thinking about the same thing. That's interesting And we curated it so we had different ages in the room. Yes, because that was so important to us like because I feel like People in their 20s fill a certain and we talked a lot about dating. Yeah, and how people wipe people up and how does it work and all the things So I really feel like that perspective is needed more in an open dialogue. Yes, that people
would love to see, because how guys operate we are sometimes so confused. - Yes, and I feel like they just living in our world. - They are. - That's our way. - Yeah, doing a thing, and they go, like Jay-Z said, they go and get right back. - Like, thank you right back, it's Chris, and I'm gonna get right back. (laughing) See you on the flip side, dude. (laughing) - 'Cause I wanna play as well. (laughing) - Okay, you know what I'm gonna ask you guys, I don't know if y'all saw the lucky day thing, and hopefully this doesn't kind of like, - Oh, I'm just saying. - Just a little more time. - I did it. - And I'll just break it down like this, 'cause I wanna, I always try to like, pull out the conversation from the person, 'cause I hate, you know, making somebody feel dragged or beat up on. But the conversation went about like, simping, and he was just talking about how simping is in too much in R&B music, whatever. But I wanna ask you guys, what do you think about the terms for guys, where it's like, they're simping, and the terms for girls, where they're like, oh, she's pick me. So the two opposite of the same spectrum, they're same when guys are, you know, do you feel like you see that in culture, or do you have a thought about that in culture? You may or may not. - I'm fit. I just feel like when it comes to simping, though like, I won't my man to be a simper about me. - Please. - For me. - And I think you were gonna ask what I saw in the comments, which is some people were saying, simping actually is when a guy is showing love to a girl that's disrespectful to him. That's what the original definition they were saying, simping was. - I'm not sure, I feel like it was. - When actually they've now changed simping to be what she's describing, which is now being nice to a woman is simping. Just wanted her to be happy. That is a (beep) to make her smile. That is actually great. - Is now considered simping. But I would also, I guess, simping when you, I guess I'm simping. - So then now you're getting to the pick me of it all. - Because I'm simply liking a man. - She really wants simping. - Just saying, I get, when you're coming from, wow. She's a nail center. - What? - Oh my God. - Saying you're a boy, mom. - Whoa. Get off his nuts. - It's going crazy, y'all. - They got it all. - You read the comments. - Because I would be trying to the opposite sex. You're either a simper or a pick me. - That's what we're at with the gender wars. - I guess I'm a simp. - I think it's crazy. - If we're in a relationship, we should simple each other. - Absolutely. - We're simping. - Oh, we're simping. - I love the simping and pimping together. - That feels very like universal. - Yes. - It's like I've got many that I'm with, that I'm simping me. - Me and my man. We doing watches. - What are we doing? - What are we doing? - I'm here for it. Yeah. This is the interesting thing with the gender. We're in such a place where we're warring everywhere in general. Everything is so black and white and gendered. - I just got to understand, pick me though. - You like a man. - Right, but people have so many options at least the men do. - Yeah. - They have a lot of options. So I feel like if you have time, I'm probably going to get eaten up. If you have time, sometimes you can make yourself more available than ones that don't. - Yeah, I think that, look, we just got into a place where everything is labeled. You know, if you're a guy and you really want love, that doesn't mean that you're a simp. If you're willing to give a girl a chance and you're willing and you like women and you believe in women, that shouldn't mean that you don't identify with the things that matter to you as a man. And I think it's the same thing with women. Women are experiencing that. That's why we are probably, a lot of people are not being honest on mine for fear of being called these names. So it perpetuates this idea. - Right. - But when in reality, people are fearful to get their heartbreak. - When in reality, people are at home, like this. Tell me what you need. What you need, you need, you need. But then online, they're like, I ain't never going to be, you know what I'm saying. So I think it's just like about perception, people don't want to be perceived to be weak. But you know, it's like, you know, you're going to be vulnerable with something. - You have to. - That's what love is. And that's when we get into the love and basketball of it all, right? We get into the conversation around these old classic romantic films that people now really upset with because they, and look, I don't know because I've never had a long relationship, you know, or sort of quote unquote successful one marriage. So I don't know, right? But people that I know that have been married, they don't tell me their business. But they say it's not, it's not always great. We both have flaws. We have up and down, but love is a choice. And I think that choice thing, like we're living in a time now where people feel like every flaw means you're toxic, that there's no opportunity for growth and change. And I think not only is it affecting our romantic relationships, but it's affecting like our ability to connect, which that brings us back to everybody's crazy. Like where it's like people aren't feeling safe enough to say, maybe I'm fucked up without it feeling like it's, they're now going to be thrown away forever. So it's, it's weird. But that's why I love having these conversations because it's like, guys, we've got to get somewhere with each other. Break through something. You got to break through something because I want to like it, y'all. I mean, I don't want to just throw everybody away. And I feel like love is, we all deserve it. And I feel like it is, if you really want love, you have to show up vulnerable and you have to be willing to fall, like love you have to fall. So if you are talking about you want a wife and you're never willing to fall for somebody and you put everybody on these judgment pedestal, then it's like, what are we even talking about? Yes. I completely agree. You know, I'm single. I don't know how much that my, what I'm saying matters, but I'm happy and single. Yeah. I'm being true to myself. Yeah. So, you know, at least that's something. Okay. So, congratulations on eight seasons of Everybody's Crazy. And you guys are literally debuting a new studio and plan to do 50 episodes. Yeah. Yet again, I mean, I can invite myself for y'all, can invite me right now. We wanted you. Yay. I can't believe the dog asked me to come on with y'all. That is so crazy because I would love to. We want you so bad because I would literally, you know what it reminds me of. Y'all remember back in the day, it was Steve Harvey used to do strawberry letter. I would wait too bad. I might as well just mention Tom Joyner. Literally, he used to do a similar conceptually, but I love, I just love hearing us taking calls and seeing what the people are talking about. So, that's very fun. I would love to come with me. You would love to have you. You got to bring your best friend. Yes. I do. And it does. I have to be somebody that is famous just your real home. Right. Tell her to come on. Which one is time to key key? Come on now. I'll be calling you. Okay. So, much of what you guys do is create safe spaces for women, you know, specifically women safe spaces in general, but to be honest and to show up as themselves. But sometimes we can have a hard time emitting things. What does it do to create that safe space? I feel like, you know, with let it break and even with everybody's crazy, I feel like we have tried our membership for community, for women. We have it in New York and LA. And it really has been about just show up as yourself, not what you do, but who you are. Yeah. And I think as we mature as women, you learn a lot about yourself. And there's things that you also want to change, which is okay. But sometimes being in that change, you're either a core group of friends or your family, sometimes people can't relate. They're like, why do you want to change? Everything's fine. You're like, I want to evolve. I want to grow. I want to figure out what makes me whole. So I feel like we show up as our authentic self. And I think that allows people to see a side of ourselves that then they are like, oh, we can actually really show up like this. And it doesn't feel like a judgment zone. Yes. And the membership is, this is a significant amount, it's like $3,000. How did y'all come to that and what is the, you know, what comes with that membership? What is the package that they're investing in? Yeah. If we have a certain amount of programming that we find mandatory that you have to do monthly, we have community events that we do pottery classes, flower arrangement classes, spa days, soundbass, like all of those things are also included. And then we also have a resource hub, which is like, you know, sometimes you don't know where to start or you don't, you want a therapist, but you know, you want to talk to your friends or people and they'll be gatekeeping a therapist. We are not gatekeepers. So we put everything in a hub for everything, whether you want a therapist, whether you need doctors, whether you need estheticians, like all of the things to give you everything that we know. Yes. I can speak to that with you for sure, because I don't know if you remember when I DMed you a few years back and I said, I know you know the best and fatigued drainage person. I know you know the best wellness people that the world could find, hook me up and you immediately sent me the entire list. I never forgot that. We didn't hang out one day. I just said, hey, Savannah, I know you know. Yeah. And you was like, I got you. So I love that. So it comes with a lot. It comes with a lot, but it also is what we talk about.
about is like, you're wanting to do the work. And I think what we want it was, we've both done our own kind of healing journey on different things. And it is very challenging. And we wanted to build something that these women can have a cheat code. Like, they could get their quicker and faster. So the curriculum, we have amazing facilitators. We have amazing teachers, a part of it. We have authors come in and talk about their books and what they're doing. I think we're constantly trying to allow people to get their quicker and faster than we were in like searching in the dark. - Yeah, as well practice by Palmer and let it break, we got a clap together on that trip, right? - Oh, what is that? - That's my membership community. - Yeah. - Now, what are we doing? - Yeah. - We're not 3000. - It's okay. But it's all about, it centers around Pilates. That was like the foundation, right? - Oh, we were there. - My work's out of this. - But it's really about communities. So we also do events. We also do lives. You know, I do lives with the community. Sometimes we do live series. - I have to say I'm very impressed that you are like certified Pilates. - Oh my gosh. - Are you insane? - Yes, thank you so much. - Congratulations. - Thank you. - Thank you so much. - So I feel like there's so much that we could do together. - Yes. - I'm really, really do. - I would love that. - Yes, and now I want to also ask this, how did y'all put that together, right? Because because I have a community myself, I know how difficult that is. And so when I'm hearing the different things that you guys put, like, was it like a year in advance? You had it all before you presented it to the world? - Two years. - Two years. - I want you to hear how long we raised money. Two years. - Wow. - And we started with testers. - Yes, we did our tester dinners. Like we did like 10 tester dinners. But also I personally love to build. I don't like to run. - Yeah. - So like I like to build things. - Yes. - Savannah's like a creative. So we come up, we're like, we have an idea. I'm like, all right, I know we can execute this. - Yes. - So we raised money. We did two years in the making. - Were you scared about the raising money? - I asked that on the business front. Because sometimes it could be, you know, there's what they say is good debt and scary debt. And so just for the business women that are listening, right? Like when you think about like, you know, getting, you know, doing that whole VC thing or whatever it is, how do you know it's right for you and your business? Most of my businesses, I invest all my cash on the front because I've always been a little bit apprehensive of. - Yes. - So I'm going to give you this money. - Yes. - What I'm going to have to do. I mean, I think about myself and the partners out there. I feel like they're, and we're very lucky to be partner with Marcy Penn. - Shout outs to them. - They are black owned. Dorita and Robbie were our original investors in Let It Break and then Crown and Conquer and just really somebody that looks like us, that can relate. And then also me and Savannah have been very open on learning. We don't know that space. So having somebody that's willing to teach, willing to show us, willing to make sure we feel comfortable. And I think we really got comfortable with being uncomfortable and asking for money. - Yeah. - And really figuring and we deserve it though. - Yeah. And it allows you to scale a little bit quicker. - Yeah. - You get what I mean. So it's definitely something to it, but it's, it's a real business conversation. You know, so that's very, it's definitely, there's a lot there, but it's very cool. - And I think also the responsibility. - Yes. - I think some people forget about the responsibility when you raise and just like the responsibility you must have as a founder, the financial and the fiscal education you need to have to know how to run a business, when to stop, when to pivot, when to change, if it's not working. Like, and not just go down the same role. So I think it is challenging and scary, but I think it also goes back to personally my gut intuition of being like, this is not working, we need to change something. And just having those hard conversations. - And your experience, obviously, with your own creative agency, Crown and Conquer. I mean, developing campaigns for brands like Coca-Cola, Adidas or Adidas. - Yes. - No way to say it. (laughing) - You know, but you've also talked about which I think is interesting in this business, not being pigeonholed as a black female owned company. - So hard. - What does that mean for you? And for me, a lot of times there's not a lot of information or data on our community. And they use that to kind of often give us less or to validate why we're not as of the same value. How do you work against that as a business woman? Especially when it comes to selling brands to our community, but they're trying to short-change our value in these ways. - I think a lot of it does go back to healing and knowing your worth and knowing your enough and knowing when you walk into a room that you deserve to be there and really owning that. I think there is a lot of falseness around people feeling that way and not really living that way. - Yeah. - And the reality of it is we are often in a space where we aren't, it isn't a lot of us. - Yes. - I mean, you even talk about private schools in LA, there's not a lot of us, not a lot of us, so people are like, oh, it's not diverse enough. I'm like, there's not a lot of people can afford to be in this space, let alone. - It's very real. - Be the majority there. So I just think it is a very real conversation. And I think again, with social media it makes you look at things. And then the reality of it is you don't realize that 0.01% of black women are running a business over $10 million. - Woo! - Like, that's rare. So I think, which is the information around it. - It's scarce. - Exactly. - Big time. And I mean, even when you think about podcast space, like, you know, it was so much controversy around black women in podcasts being on some of these lists and not existing and us not doing the numbers yet. Like, we're gonna get there, we'll be there. At one point or another, like, it doesn't, you don't have to automatically be on the top whatever list, but it does take us more time. And it is a bit more challenging. And that is also okay. That doesn't mean you have to give up. - Yeah, and it does because you keep moving, doesn't mean you're not aware. - Correct. - Tony Morrison said the greatest function of racism is to distract you. So I can know that's going on. I can know what I'm systemically up against, but I can also continue to move forward and continue to pioneer to break down barriers and to make it easier for the next people, just like, we're talking about let it break or practice the popular. That's what those spaces are for. - That's what I learned, this is. - Yes, here you go. - Let's get to it. And even before let it break, you with the LeBron James Foundation, we're already doing a lot of work, Savannah, with mothers and families in Akron. I want to know from you why that's so important, right? You, when you became a mother, you mean, when you got into being in the public eye, you were a teenager. There were a lot of stuff happening which all with culture and just becoming like I said, symbols. Why was it so important to you to start focusing in that way? - I think it's just nowhere you're from and knowing the opportunities that you don't necessarily get and just wanting to put it. I think so Akron is a place where you can get swallow. You can get swallow and there's like what you don't know, you don't know because there's no one else around you who's like sharing any type of information. So what we wanted to do was just make sure that at the very baseline you know that it is so much more than just this base and knowing family, friends that are in this city who need the help, have it. So they get that boost up to be able to even start to think differently and outside of Akron. - I love what you said about the knowing where you come from. What do you think is a difficult part for both of you when it comes to success holding on to where you're coming from? What does that look like to you and how do you make sure that that remains a central part of what you do? 'Cause I think it is very easy for for it. I've seen it happen. It's big for me and my family, right? But I see it, it can be a thing 'cause people are fighting so hard to get to the other side that they sometimes don't really appreciate where they came from and the positive things that were there that led them to where they were. So how does that show up for you guys in your life? - I think it's just always just having that understanding. I don't feel like I could never get to a point where I feel like I am not Savannah Brinson from Akron, Ohio. That sounds crazy to me. So I think at the very least what I can do is pour into the community that I'm from. To, again, just plan a seat. Like, it's possible. Y'all could do it. I did it. I walk these hallways, these streets. I went to these corner stores like all the things like just planning a seat that is possible. - Yeah, I think it's so important. And I think for me, I feel like we, although we're in the world, we're not of it. So I feel like we live a pretty simple life. Like, you know, even when I posted about the pen pal thing, people were like, what? Like, you know, and I still go and get cards of CVS and I still use my coupons. That's right. - I can't be whimsy. (laughs) - I love a coupon of CVS. But I feel like there is a way to like, keep the simplicity of life present. - Oh my gosh, yes. - You can get eaten up by so much. It is the quality time. Like when you really ask yourself what is happiness and people write it down, it's normally like eating with friends or having a snicker bar or-- - I love a picnic. - I love a picnic. - A charcootery board. She doesn't make all these things. It's so simple. It's not like, oh, going on this $5 million trip Europe. It's not that. So I do
just think, remember that simple doesn't mean less than. - Yes. - Like, simple can mean. - Yes. - So wholesome and so full of love. And like, you could be doing the most simplest things and have the best time. - This actually goes back to what we started this conversation with you when you were talking about gifts and how it's not about how big it is, it's about this intimate behind it, that's right. What the values are. - I love that, come on circular, let's see. - Okay, I've got a game for us to play. Now, you guys, you two do friendship audits. - Do you have prizes? - I don't know, the prizes are mine. You guys are the friendship audits on everybody's crazy. And Savannah, I heard you say the Chalney Pattles, so I basically, oh my God! - Let me get our girls some paddles. Okay, so I'm gonna hand, this is one for you. - Oh my God. - One for you, then one for me, and then I got another one for you, and another one for you. And then one for me. Okay, so basically-- - Just so you know these are gave recycled. - Yes, yes, yes. - These will be on everybody's crazy. - Yes, yes, yes, that's mine, though. - Please, keep on reading it. - Come on, merch. Oh my gosh, guys, we'll be selling these. I'm gonna, baby, just keep on. - Yes. - Podcast store. You can play at home. (laughs) Okay, so we are going to, I'm gonna go a little further with the friendship audit and we're gonna play audit that. Okay, we're talking friendship, family, relationships marriage, even sex. - Okay. - In the situation and you each have to decide what we're gonna do about it, right? So looking at, excuse me, locking your answers and let's see where you agree and where we have some problems, okay? So just a reminder, free it is like, we gotta let the relationship go. Fix it, have the conversation, and then faded is create some distance. Face it as you are the problem. Okay, first one up. You tell your friends something personal, and a week later another friend casually references it. Your friend swears she only told one person because she needed advice. Audit that, are we fixing it, fading it, freeing it, or facing it? - So I'm actually fixing it. I'm gonna, I'm gonna do it head on. - Wait a minute, wait, wait, wait, wait, what's facing? - Face it is, you are the problem. - No, no, no, no, I want to fix it, I love this one. - You want to fix it too, and you got, you got faded. Okay, so, right, faded is created from my business. - I told you. - But wait, but what if y'all is first for a long time? - That's what I think, so look, so look, I have like maybe like a hot take. - Oh my god, go ahead. - My hot take is I feel like everybody's a little bit messy. Not like that, but I feel like everybody got sips. I feel like human beings got sips. Everybody I feel like is a little bit, like they share a little bit of information, even if they tell their mom or their husband, sometimes information gets out. I kind of want to see the intention behind it. So whenever I feel that somebody here says something, I'm like, so what was it? I kind of like, I know you already told so and so, because I want to know why you did it. - You did it, you did it. - I ain't talking to mom. - She's dead serious, I can tell. - Okay, okay. - I was like, whoa, what about you? What are your feelings on the fix it of it all? - I don't know. - I just can't. - I just want to come. - So yeah, I do want to come. - Yeah, but I love you. - Yeah. - Why did you do that? - I'm the same one. - See, this is why I can't watch TV. 'Cause I just feel like-- - I'm that way too. - Normally, I only have a hand for a friend. So if you've really said something, I'm gonna come, I gotta talk about it. - Yeah. - This is no way, especially if they're concerned. - I don't know. - Okay. - Okay, well, wait a minute. Why you why she ain't gotta unpack hers? - She said, she said, you told my damn business. - You told my business. Like if I'm confiding in you and I'm trusting you, it's just her thing. - So what if you're very close to them? - Give me five business days. - Okay, so you wanna face it later, maybe. - Okay. - Yeah. - Yeah, yeah. - She seems like she wants a tight ship. Relationships. You've seen someone for six months. You met co-workers, they're cousin. Even they dog walker. - Oh my God. - But they don't want you to meet their friends. - Out of that. - There's not anything on him that describes how I feel. Who cares? What time are you coming over? (laughing) - I don't wanna meet their friends anyway. Just say no damn. - You know what, right, right. We ain't at the paparazzi. Keep their ass in home. - Oh, six months though. - No, I gotta let you go. - I wanna meet those friends. - Is this right? - If I'm letting you go. - You letting them go. - Okay, yeah, I gotta let, I gotta free him. - I don't know. I don't really need to meet the friends. - Wait a minute, you don't wanna be with him for real? We all together. We'll be together. - Oh my God. (laughing) - Because it's like, I'm not about to be like, let me meet your friends. - Let me, I don't, as long as you're doing what I need, as long as I feel engaged and good in the vibe with you, lead a ass over there. - So are you in a committed relationship? - We could be. - And you don't meet the friends at all. (laughing) - Oh my God, that is so funny. - Oh my gosh, you're done with it now. - Oh God, I'm done. - I don't think, I do think at six months, there is some sort of understanding that needs to be. - No, I gotta go. - There's some alignment that needs to be happening. So to still, at six months, not meet the friends, I'm not saying it has to go away. - What if you have a faded? - I'm just saying like, "Oh, you wanna step back a little bit?" - What's really going on? - I guess this thing, too, is like-- - For somebody's time. - Look, I met their co-workers, I met their cousin, even their dog barker, your friends are the problem. That's what I hear. Maybe I have an insane reframe. - Yeah, yeah, I-- - You know, that doesn't allow for rejection. - Listen, I, yeah, nope, yeah. - I agree with you, the fade, I would definitely have to take a step back. - Yeah. - But I'm too emotional, I gotta let it go. - That's real, that's me. - I'm like, I'm sipping at six months. - I know, that's me. - Okay, this is too fun with you guys. I wanna pick you another really good one for us. - Okay, cool. - Your partner admits they've been faking enthusiasm for something in the bedroom for years, because they didn't wanna hurt your feelings. - What the (beep) is it? - Baby, why didn't you tell me? - I think it's a combination of the two. - Yeah. - What did you say? - I love that. She's saying, like, let's talk about it, but also you're the problem, because it would have stopped if you would have said it. - Yeah, I'm gonna fix it. - Me too, because I love the bedroom. - Yeah, like, why would it you tell me that you like to be- - Yeah, let's have some fun. What are you gonna do? - I thought you liked it when I picked that suit on. You're not into the furry (beep) anymore? - Yeah, or you're never worth it. - Or you have a car. - You didn't like when I cosplay as a cat? - Damn. - So much fun going on. Okay, your teenager wants to go on a trip with a friend's family, you barely know. And every other parent seems completely comfortable with it. Baby, you ain't going, and this is why. - Okay. I think it's this. - Free teenager? - That the relationship go. - No, no, not that. - Well, let the child go. - You're gonna let, yeah, you're gonna be- - I'm gonna let it happen. - Yeah, I'm gonna let them go. I'm most likely I'm uptight as you would be. Then I will call Savannah, and then she's gonna let them go. And so maybe during my fix it conversation, my baby says some (beep) and I'm like, okay, so. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - You gotta trust me at some point, Mom, yeah. - That's what they're gonna say. - Okay, here we go, next one. Your new mother-in-law writes a negative Google review of your wedding. I don't even know you could do that. While you're still to venue, then refuses to take it down. Basically, your mother-in-law's talking crap about you. What are you gonna do about it? - The apps of freaking Lutley is gonna be this, and he better be careful, too. (laughs) You better get up off me, free it. - I'm freeing it. She doesn't like me, she doesn't like me. - Period. - Not for her. - You went that far as to write the review. I mean, really, are you reviewing my wedding? It was the best day of your life. - You go and I mean, she's free, baby. - Mm-hmm, I agree. - You don't want me to end on time. - But I'm a little, I'm a little, I'm a little- - You're the same. (laughs) - I heard that it sounded good. - It sounded like a car, honey. - That's it. (laughs) - She said, I'm crying. - She said, I'm crying because you're so sweet. - You really are, Taurus. - I love you, mother-in-law. - I'm like, what did you like? - You. - She said, hey. (beep) - Well, you're right, a second dead. Wait a minute. - Now that I'm gonna be snippy, I'm trying to- - Oh my gosh. - And you're also gonna create some distance. - I love that. - I love that. - I love that. Okay, hold on, let me get to the last one or two. - What's with the whole milk? - Go on, no. - Okay, your spouse's friend makes a disrespectful joke about your marriage in front of both of you and your spouse laughs instead of shutting it down. That sounds familiar. (laughs) I know the reference for that. Let me get my papers. - I was like, I was disrespectful, wasn't it? - Okay, right. - 'Cause that's why I (beep) - Oh my god. - You know, I'm gonna probably be a little bit pouty. - Is it, I was gonna say this. - 'Cause why did you laugh at that? (laughs) Do my breath stink for real? - I'm just making a (beep) about it. (laughs) - What do you mean? - Like. - I probably will laugh too. - Taurus. - How disrespectful was it? - I mean, he was like,
Honey, know how y'all stay together? She won't be putting out ever. - Yeah, shut the hell up. 'Cause what y'all doing talking about our sex life? (laughing) - I think it's so funny. - Okay, so yours is like no problem, baby. - I'm like, I'm a single. - In short. - See, I started kidding that. - Now you start clowning home. (laughing) (laughing) - Now home boy, you get dropped. - Of course he doesn't. - Hey, where's the last time you guys are ass? (laughing) - Now that's good. Drag his ass to film, 'cause don't talk again. Okay, here we go. Uh, this is gonna get you guys. Another mom disciplines your child in front of you because she thinks you're not stepping in fast enough. She says, if they in my house, I'm a correct 'em. I need the one that says fight. (laughing) - I need the one that says fight. - Because. - Yeah. - Absolutely not. You are the problem, ma'am. - What's discipline? (laughing) - I realize I have a lot of questions, but what is discipline? - Okay, this is the scenario. He playing with the rocks. - What is yours? - He's exactly. He's playing with the rocks over there. Uh-oh, little boy. I don't know what y'all do over there in Malibu. But over here, we don't do that. Sorry, girl. - Oh, I'm actually-- - I'm actually-- - I'm actually okay with that. - I'm not saying this right. - Yeah. - Really? - 'Cause if you at my house-- - Yeah. - And you start acting? - Yeah. - Why? - I love to grab a little arm. - But this is the thing. I'm a gentle parent. - I'm a gentle parent in the first place. - Yeah, why? - You wouldn't say that. - Something like that though. - Worry about. But there are consequences and repercussions to how we run our ship over here. - Mine would be very like, you're not invited back. (laughing) - If she says, you know what I mean? - I'll let the (beep) go down and I'll be like, can you believe that little bitch? (laughing) They won't be coming. We'll meet at the Discovery Zone next time. - I would just, I want my people to feel like they can, like, I feel like that's one of the things we miss. It takes a village. - So I also feel like if I'm at your house or you're at my house, we really are cool. - You understand? - Yeah. - Right. - I'm only me, so that's the thing to discover the zone that is, stays at the Discovery Zone. - That's very real. - So if you're at my house and your kid is doing something that I'm like-- - But you know what? Let me know, I was at a party recently and my friend was like saying stuff to my son, but he was like saying stuff to my son like, come on out of Leo, you know, listen to your mama. Stuff like that, I was with that. It felt very soulful. - Yes. - Like I felt very with the community. - But it just depends because it's like, don't get crazy. - I agree with that. - So Leo is doing something or hitting somebody and your best friend is there. And she's like, don't put your hands on people, Leo. You get mad? - No. - She said that. But if it depends on the level of discipline, like how are you saying it and what are you correcting and how are you correcting it? - Girl, and what's up with you on your kids? (laughing) - Yeah, I feel like I would be okay. - I would be okay. - But you made a good point, which is, if they're at the house, they've already passed all whatever these tests are, not tests. But you know what I'm saying? You already trust in-- - Level of comfort. - There's a level of comfort that you already know how they would have. - I think Leo is going to test the limits with somebody that's not you. - I think it's opposite. - I feel like Leo will be a angel at my house. He gonna test it with you. - That's very true. - But I mean-- - I think that's how kids are. - Whenever they get really comfortable with, right? So if they get crazy comfortable, then it's like they start acting crazy. 'Cause Leo can really get there. - All kids can. - Okay, last one. I could really sit up here with y'all all day. - Okay, let me find a good last one for us to end on. - Okay, this one's good. - Okay. - Your best friend starts hanging out with somebody you had a huge falling out with. She says their friendship has nothing to do with yours. Audit that. I know exactly what I'm gonna do. - I need to create some distance. (laughing) - Is that the ever going to be-- - 'Cause I don't feel comfortable. - What are you saying? - I'm facing distance too. 'Cause who, who, who, who can get this bitch about ya? - I have a question. - I have a question that that's your best friend. See, I always got a question. - Oh, you said fade it too. - Oh no, I'm just like-- - You didn't do nothing yet. - I love that you're bringing it too fast to it. - It's a pedal, it's a pedal. - Will you fading it? I'm actually freeing it. - Oh, you're done. - But my best friend would never do that. - Yeah, yeah. - So this is where I'm always surprised. Because I feel like why would you actually do that? - This happens in a girlfriend situation. What I mean is, this is when a group breaks down. That's when this happens. This happens when you was a forceome and two of them fell out and the group of bandins won or somebody, they make their size that have to be chosen. This is like when, this is like when Tony and Joan fell out. That was a crazy season. They was in church crying over that, praying over that relationship. You know when a break down happens and it's like that. And so it's like they used to be all our friend. That's when those situations happen. - Yeah, I wouldn't do well with that. 'Cause I would be like, I can't believe you betrayed me. I don't do well with betrayal. Have y'all ever been a part of friend groups? Like big girl friend groups? - Yeah, high school. - Yeah, it's tough to maintain. - It's fiber group. - That's not my aesthetic. - Yeah, that's not my aesthetic. - I jump into them. - Oh, you do? - Like I jump into other peoples. - Oh, that's too much. - But I'm so low. - Do you know what I mean? - But don't they fight over you? - So basically like this. I have a friend that has a friend group of five. - Yes. - One friend group, like she has a big friend group. And I'm like, I'm in it, but I'm not all the way in it. - Oh, I see. - You get what I mean, so like I can be a part of friend groups, but I'm genuinely like, I'm always rolling stag. I mean, it's funny, do you like all five? - I do, but naturally friend groups get like that. That's why I'm like, they can get, you know what I mean? 'Cause somebody's gonna get hurt. Somebody's gonna get upset, you know, now we are again. And I think it's really beautiful when it can happen, right? When you are somebody that can maintain a solid, big friend group, but it's really difficult, 'cause everybody doesn't grow at the same pace. - So I might think I can. - You know, but it's beautiful when people have it. - Yeah, I definitely had it and it fell apart. - After high school, it just kinda fizzled. - But is you an Amber? - It's me. - Amber. - Hey, Amber, Amber. - Hey, Amber. - And girls, I have to say, I really wanted to steal you guys after this. I really wanted to put you in my pocket and throw you in the closet, because I really enjoy talking to y'all. You guys are really just so fabulous and inspiring and beautiful and cool to hang out with. So I'll be looking for my invitation to Maratha. - Oh my God. - Yeah. - But wait a minute, if we bring you in the friend group, and then what happens? - Well, this is the three sex, three sex, three sex. - If I will behave, you never have to throw me away. (laughing) - I'm just gonna have to say, baby, we're fixing you. I'm gonna be a set. I'm gonna be a set, so don't be flippy. - I'm like this. Okay, hug sisters. - Oh yeah, thank you so much. - Oh my gosh, girls, you guys are just too pretty. - First of all, I better be invited on the next girl's trip. But what I love about Savannah and April is that their friendship isn't about having everything in common or always a green. And what really stayed with me is that finding your people is one thing, but allowing them to show up for you is another. Sometimes that means asking for help, hearing something you don't want to hear, or having somebody who believes in you enough to build something together. Don't take those relationships for granted. Give each other room to grow, show up when it matters. And remember that you don't have to do everything alone. I'm definitely gonna take that advice. I'll see you next time, 'cause baby, this is Kiki Palmer. ♪ Baby, this is Kiki ♪ ♪ Baby, this is Kiki Palmer, yeah ♪
