S2E1: Live for Today, Live for Tomorrow

The speaker emphasizes the importance of focusing on your inner self—your perspective and perception—as the true engine of life. External circumstances are less significant than what happens inside you, as an African proverb notes: "If there is no enemy inside, the enemy outside can do us no harm." Time is presented as an ally for growth, turning practice into skill and confidence. Mistakes should be viewed as learning opportunities that shape your journey, not as failures. The speaker urges authenticity: live your life as your own creation, not a copy of others’ expectations. Balancing the present with the future is key; decisions, even hard ones, define who you are, while indecision leads to drifting. The process of growth and change matters more than the final outcome, and you may not always see the results of your efforts. Self-respect and self-love involve consistently treating yourself well. Let go of who you could have been and embrace who you can become. Embrace your flaws and emotions, and strive to improve yourself, not just your circumstances. Surround yourself with grounded people, pursue your meaning of life, and be the change you wish to see. Ultimately, make your days count rather than counting them.

Speaker 1 You are listening Speaker 2 to the control P Speaker 3 podcast. Today, I want to talk about living for the now but also living for Speaker 1 tomorrow. Speaker 3 If you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel like you're going to step forward and two steps back, you're not alone. I've been there. There have been many times where I feel like I'm doing the right things. Try making the right move. And still something happens. That throws me off my game or knocked me flat and center and I don't know. What to do then? It catches me on The Blind Side. But here is what I found. What I found? Is that you? Are the engine. You can have the fanciest car in the world. a Ferrari, a Porsche Name your pick. But if there's no engine inside of it, it won't take you anywhere. And you could have the radius car in the world. And I have some overclocked engine in it and it could be faster than the cars on the speedway. On the NASCAR. So what really matters is not what your working with on the Speaker 1 outside. Speaker 3 Now, what's going on in your circumstance is not what's going on? And your livelihood, but what's going on inside you is more important than what's going on in Speaker 1 around you. You know, Speaker 3 there's an African proverb and it says, if there is no Enemy Inside, the enemy outside can do us Speaker 1 no harm. And that's true. Speaker 3 one of the things that I believe, neatly, It is Speaker 1 that? Speaker 3 Our only enemy in life is our perspective and our perception. These are your true Speaker 1 enemies. Time Speaker 3 time. Is your ally? Tom is what brings permanence time is what makes practice? And translating weave that into skill. It's what makes confidence. In Speaker 1 efficacy. You are where Speaker 3 you are now because of the, some of your choices, but didn't that? Accept Speaker 1 them. Speaker 3 Because you would not have the good and great things in your life, the things you love and enjoy and appreciate, had it not been for even your bad decisions because they brought you here. So, don't believe that your mistakes are mistakes. It's learning. It's a process of growth, the process of Life, the process, and the consequence. Of living. What's a mistake to someone else doesn't have to be a mistake for you. A life choice that you would make may not even be a good life choice for that of someone else, someone in your family, even Speaker 1 We're all Speaker 3 dancing to the beat of a Different Drum. Just make sure that you're the drummer. If you're living your life like a book, make sure you're the author. If your life is a song, make sure that you're the artist. In the great canvas of life in the great scheme of things, make sure your life is not a forgery. Make sure your life is not a facsimile of someone else's or what other people expect Speaker 1 of you. Speaker 3 If life is fleeting. Make yours Speaker 1 timeless. If you wish it. If Speaker 3 you feel like life is meaningless, make your life meaningful. As Gandhi would say. Be the change. You wish to see in the world. instead of hoping that the world would fill you up, open Speaker 1 yourself. To the world. Speaker 3 And understand just how connected you with, you Speaker 1 are. Speaker 3 So we've talked about living for today, let's talk about living for tomorrow. There's a duality in all of us. Sometimes it seems like warring thoughts. Feelings emotions. and we have to decide something, whether it be large or small, It takes. Effort, sometimes to decide. Speaker 1 Who. Speaker 3 Do I wish to be in this moment? How do I wish to act in this moment till I want to be Petty? Do I want to be Speaker 1 merciful? Speaker 3 What I treat them. As I want to be treated, don't want to treat them better than I would want to be treated. Do I want to treat them the way they want Speaker 1 to be treated? These are hard Speaker 3 choices. And often in life you can go around that. So you're aimless and wandering drifting from Shore to Speaker 1 Shore, Speaker 3 trying to find answers trying to piece yourself together like a puzzle Speaker 1 set. Speaker 3 But your life can only be as good as you imagined it to be. In reality. You can have what you want, you can become who you want to be. Speaker 1 It just takes time. Speaker 3 Time to plant the seed time to nourish it and watch it grow. Time to Speaker 1 trust. That it will be. and, Speaker 3 Sometimes you don't get to see the results of Speaker 1 what. You plant Speaker 3 and sometimes other people reap the benefits of what you started. but if you learn to accept, That you don't live for the outcome but you live for the process you live for the journey. You live for what you become. When you work through these tasks and goals. When you work through the process of changing into something new Then the end result won't be important. It won't matter who gets the accolades? Because you will have changed in the process into the next stage of your life. You will reap the benefit of your growth of your maturity. Of your energy. So, making decisions for the future can be scary. But its Speaker 1 necessary. You know. Speaker 3 Not making the choice is worse. And saying no. By saying no. And making a choice. You're at least able to Define. more of who you are, absolute, if I Speaker 1 yourself, Speaker 3 but when you let the world decide, when you let the world, tell you who you are or when you let the time run out, you'll find yourself having lived a life, like a fish. That was just taken Downstream with the current. And you will not get any Applause. From anyone else? But more importantly you won't get any Applause from yourself. What is self Speaker 1 respect? Speaker 3 Self respect. Is doing for yourself, what you would do for other people. Speaker 1 Self-love. Speaker 3 Self-love. Is doing that over time. there's different types of love and there's different types of First Speaker 1 Act. There's different ways to show Speaker 3 it. But the main thing, Is learning to. Let go of who you were or who you could have been. And accepting. Who you get to become now? Something completely different and new. I've met so many people who grieve over who they could have been. But you can't lose anything. You never really had. And if you had those things and lost them, were they ever really yours? Maybe you weren't the person. You need to be. Or maybe it wasn't for the person you were meant to become. Find yourself. Search for yourself except what you see. If it's good by your standards, that's what Speaker 1 matters. Speaker 3 Don't worry about. Other people's standards. And accept who you are. The other side of this is that. We're not econ's. We're not these. Perfect beings. We're flawed. We're human. We have feelings. We have emotions. Embrace that energy. Infuse it in your thoughts. It's not foolish to trust people. It's not foolish to Convey, how you really feel? Often in a world of Glitz and glamour. And Shimmer. It's refreshing to see someone just be Speaker 1 themselves. So, I implore you if you're listening to be yourself. Speaker 3 Another not only strive for a better life. Better circumstances. Better outcomes. Make it an imperative to strive for a better. Speaker 1 You Speaker 3 And if you have your life together, some people do some people have their lives, the way they want. I'm learning to get Speaker 1 there. Speaker 3 Then just like a tree deep in your roots. Secure yourself and who you are? And be around and surround yourself with people. Who do the same? And whatever the meaning of life is for you, pursue it. If there's something you believe in strongly acknowledge it. And if there's something you wish would change about the world, be that change. it may take time but at the end of your life, what you will have at the end of your life and what you have done. will be what you exchanged your life for so, in the words of Muhammad Ali, Don't count the days. But make those days Speaker 1 count. This is control pain.
