Rising Signs (Aries-Virgo)

So thank you for being here and let's get into today's lecture. Last episode we learned about the importance of rising signs. If you haven't listened to the rising sign episode or you need a refresher on what the ascendant indicates, go give the previous episode a listen and then meet me back here. Today we're diving in to discuss the 1st 6 rising signs. We're going to structure this by doing a general overview of the rising, including some keywords and buzzwords, then talk about the physical characteristics they often indicate, and then lastly, the overarching sole purpose or motivation for each of the signs. For the physical characteristics, try not to get too caught up in them. Some of them may apply to you, some of them may not. You have to look at the other influences that are being exerted towards the ascendant to get a true picture of the rising and how it manifests. But overall, these are the general characteristics, the general appearance, the general vibes of the vehicle of the soul under the 1st 6 signs. And we have a lot to cover. So let's dive in Aries. In typical Aries fashion, these people tend to have a strong presence about them. They don't have to always be the loudest person in the room or the most obnoxious, though, and they actually probably won't be. Aries risings tend to come with a quiet assertiveness to them, a quiet confidence. And I wonder what that must be like as an Aries moon. The quiet assertiveness and confidence. That assertiveness and confidence can definitely flare up. They're prone to that just like any Aries placement. But it's not just on all the time like an Aries moon or an Aries sun. These people embody leadership qualities and tend to be very decisive with the way that they move through the world. Cardinal Fire on the Ascendant is a straightforward trailblazer. It doesn't want to be stifled in expression of self. So these people are often forward with their opinions and how they take action since they don't hold back what they think set in setting often doesn't matter. It might not be the best time or place to say something, but if an Aries rising has an opinion, they're going to let it out. They will have to consciously work on holding back their opinions in this lifetime if if they want to do that. Most of them don't, but some of them will be aware that like my opinions and my thoughts and my feelings aren't always appropriate to express, so that's something that they're going to actively have to work on. It's not just all aggression and blasting their opinions at people though. These people can have super inspiring and infectious energy. A pep talk with an Aries rising can leave you feeling like you just had a session with a life coach and you're ready to take on the world. Challenges are exciting to this rising sign. Being able to set their sights on something and chase after it is pretty much what they live for. When they obtain what they want, it's kind of like, well, now what? So they're often better at starting things than finishing them. When they have the carrot, when they have the thing that they're running after, they're super locked in and they're honed and they're they're zoned in on it and they can chase and chase and chase. But again, once they get it, it's like, oh, the fun's over. Well now what? They're super competitive and they don't like to lose. And AIRY Sun and rising really differ here. And AIRY Sun doesn't know when to quit. And then Aries rising, like yes, they're competitive and they don't want to lose, but they can also see the writing on the wall and they do know when to cut their losses at some point. This is a Mars ruled ascendant so the occasional temper is going to flare. They can be hot headed, passionate and intense. As long as this energy has some kind of outlet then it's honestly fine. It's it's not a big deal. When this energy doesn't have an outlet or the person becomes consumed by their temper, that's when things can get a little dicey. Aries rising people and all Aries placements, but especially the rising since it's the physical body, you need to have an outlet. Some kind of movement would be good. Creativity to a degree can help, but really having some sort of physical outlet is going to be very beneficial for these people. Also, this is a very accident prone rising sign and it can seem odd because generally they're athletic, generally they're on the move. But Aries risings being ruled by Mars, it definitely indicates accidents, burns, cuts, scrapes, general clumsiness, and especially when it has to do with the eyes or the head because that's what Aries rules. Mars's influence also gives this rising stamina, passion and just a desire to be recognized for their hard work and achievements. The main characteristics and buzzwords for an Aries rising are leadership, entrepreneurs, decisive action, bold the color red, intensity, blunt accidents, passion, and drive. Now for the physical characteristics. Since Aries rules the head, facial features will likely be prominent or memorable. Strong, piercing eyes that dart around quickly and assess the situation at hand. The eyes are usually lighter in color. Even if they're brown, it's still typically a lighter brown and there's just a certain fire behind them. For men, there's usually a beard or facial hair. They're typically slender and have a medium build leaning towards the slightly taller side. It's nothing crazy, above average. It's more about having a large presence than an overly Thor like Viking build. It's not like that. It's just they have again, that quiet confidence, that quiet presence about them. Even if the physical body isn't overly large, red is a key part of the appearance. This can be a red complexion, red undertones, red hair, red lips, rosy cheeks, and they may even flush easily or get sunburns often. Red may also be the preferred color to wear, which is very much the Mars influence. The last thing about the physical characteristics of this rising is that it has sharp, angular movements. It's quick, it's agile, it likes to be on the move, even if it is accident prone from time to time. This rising is always on the move. The sole motivations of an Aries rising, they're really about conquering the world, or at least the world of the Aries rising's dreams. Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and it bursts into the world ready to take on anything and everything. This is a rising that really strives to be independent, and it's never going to shy away from an adventure or challenge. In fact, these people welcome adventure and challenge, and they often seek it out. Overcoming some sort of adversity and helping others is part of how they move through the world. Taurus The first thing I noticed about my Taurus rising clients is that they always have this super cool, earthy vibe. They usually have plants in their Zoom background somewhere and they're just really connected to a deeper, earthy kind of source. This is a grounded and persistent rising, extremely determined and extremely strong willed, which is a nice way to say that they're stubborn. Taurus is known for being stubborn. We all know that that's like their number one thing. They're stubborn. So when it comes to being placed in the rising position, it's no different. When these people make up their minds, they rarely change it. They stick to their opinions fiercely. They may also be extremely fond of routines and doing the same things every day. Examples would be getting attached to a particular type of shirt and then ordering it in every color, Going to the grocery store the same time every week. Anything that's structured and gives them a sense of deeply desired security and predictability. It's not because they're boring, it's because Taurus wants stability in their life. So even though they have the characteristic stubbornness, they're still super easygoing and they generally want to keep a sense of peace or harmony around them, and this is due to the influence of their ruler, Venus. Venus creates a love of harmony, especially within the home. Taurus risings like their homes to be their castle and their safe space. Safety and security within the material world is of the utmost importance to this rising sign, which is likely why they try to stay super connected to the material realm in some way. Being ruled by Venus also gives the love of aesthetics and beauty. And when I say aesthetics, I'm referring to your personal taste. So it doesn't really matter what the aesthetic is. Whatever it is, you do it and you do it well. If you happen to like pink and you're more of a Barbie girl, you're going to go all in on that. If you're cottage corps, if you're goth, I don't know what they're at. They all are. If you're a jock like me, you're you're just going to go in on it and you're going to do it well. Basically, this rising has an eye for whatever their taste is, and they like to curate that look with their clothing, but also within the home. Besides stubborn, Taurus also gets a reputation for being lazy. Those are like the two things that everybody knows about Taurus. They're stubborn, they're lazy. And the third, they like to eat. And it's true to a degree, but it's not like as intense as people make it out to be. This reputation for being quote UN quote lazy is born from their love of luxury and the finer things in life, but it doesn't equate to typical stereotypical laziness. These people actually work really hard, especially when there's money to be had or there's something to be gained. They won't ever work for free, time is too precious. They will however, always lend a hand to someone they love. Taurus is fixed earth and embodies the typical wealth and material possessions significations. This rising is always assessing financial security and thinking of ways to enhance material world standing. And This is why I say they can't be lazy. They like to buy stuff too much they like they need money to buy all that food, to buy all the clothes, to buy all the indulgences that they love. They're just not going to work a minute more than they have to. The obsession with money comes from possibly having to deal with struggles financially in the younger years. Being self-sufficient from a young age causes this rising to cling fiercely to what they do have. They don't want to lose anything that they've worked for and they want to thoroughly enjoy what they have worked hard to obtain. This rising can stay at a job or in a relationship for longer than they should due to concerns about the material, world safety and just not being the best with change. Fixed earth is not good with change, so these people can often find themselves stuck in situations or stuck in opinions or stuck with emotions. The main characteristics and buzzwords for a Taurus rising are determined and persistent, stubborn, grounded, earthy or natural, strong willed, cool demeanor, indulgent, rooted and steadfast, materially minded for physical characteristics. There's a certain sturdiness to these people, they're likely shorter to mid height range. Taurus rules the neck so the neck is sort of like a strong point or a point of health interests. This rising can be gifted with amazing singing voices as well, or just a nice cool voice in general. The body is strong but also prone to weight gain in the later years and again this is likely due to the love of indulgence and being the foodie of the Zodiac. They have a very attractive face which is arguably their hands down best feature. Along with their glowing skin, they have slightly more squared features. Also something fun when they get mad, their nostrils might flare like a bull. They also might like to adorn their noses with piercings as well. The sole motivations of a Taurus rising have to do with looking to create stability for themselves and their loved ones. Their main purpose in this life is to always feel safe and have more than what they need. And this can sound selfish or indulgent, but it's really not. These people work hard for what they have, and they haven't always come from the most stable upbringings, so they're looking to kind of create a safe space for themselves. If they end up having children, they strive to give them a better life than what they had, one where they won't have to feel like they're supporting themselves or going at it alone. It's really about creating stability and comfort for themselves and the ones that they love. Gemini. When mutable air takes over the Ascendant, we see a little drama and flair come to the table. This is a dramatic, expressive, and witty rising sign. It's Mercury ruled, so this is the first really logically driven Ascendant we've talked about so far. Wit, logic, intelligence, and all around being a bit of a smart ass will come naturally to this rising. These people are typically always in motion. This can be both physically and mentally, but it's usually one or the other based on other placements in the chart. This can mean bouncing legs, talking with their hands, running their mouth, just thoughts going a mile a minute, and just a general sense of restlessness is imbued into a Gemini rising. This is honestly just part of being a mutable rising sign, which is that you're always on the go, you're always ready for change, you're always ready for movement. This placement tends to suffer from the Grass is Greener syndrome. They think that the next thing is going to be the thing instead of focusing on what they have right in front of them. Yearning for something better can cause these people to become spiteful of the life that they're living and anything that binds them to it. And this mentality can come from their relationship to duality. They see all sides of everything and can often get curious about what the other side is like instead of just watering the grass of the side they're already on. Being Mercury rolled means that they're always thinking, analyzing, and acting mentally fast. This can also extend to the emotional world as well, depending on the moon sign. Emotions tend to be mutable in nature and they change with ease. They don't become stuck or fixated easily. Like a Taurus rising, a Gemini rising will change their mind. They will change their appearance, their emotions, you name it, they'll change it as they see fit. They don't shy away from the spotlight either. In fact, they do some of their best work in front of an audience. Lots of Gemini Rising people get into the entertainment business, and I think this is because they have that duality. They have the ability to be dual things. They can be one thing as an actor while preserving their personal life easily. It's actually a really great outlet for them. It's a nice healthy outlet for this energy. It allows them to be quote UN quote 2 faced and to have multiple personas and it be acceptable because that's something that happens with all of the air risings. All of the air risings can come off as flaky or two faced or just, you know, not who they say they are when really the air risings, they're just so fluid. But especially mutable air. Mutable air is extremely fluid with how they present themselves and who they are in their persona. So they're changing a lot and people can get confused by that. I think the tendency to overthink can be pretty strong with this rising. They don't do well-being isolated or alone for long periods of time. Having a project to work on or a core group of friends to hang out with is really going to keep that overthinking at Bay. When you're ruled by Mercury, you need to stay in touch with people. You need to have an outlet for all your mental energy. While the overthinking thing is real and can lead them to darker places, they do generally have a more upbeat disposition more often than not, especially when they're giving that Mercury a healthy outlet. Puzzles, trivia, and anything that's mentally stimulating will be of interest to them. These people are lifelong learners. They love to learn. They're going to live and breathe communication. They're not someone who does well just being cut off from having contact or dealing with someone who's super flaky with responses or gives the cold shoulder. Those people are not going to jive with a Gemini rising. So even though they're more logical most of the time, they will definitely strive to understand emotions and more emotional people to the best of their ability. I'm not saying that this rising has the best emotional depth, but out of all the air risings, I think Gemini risings strive the hardest to understand their emotions because it's like a mental exercise almost for them. So it's kind of fun. The main characteristics and buzzwords for a Gemini rising are dramatic, witty, sharp, intellectual, restless, inquisitive, and curious. Dual natured Gemini is the ruler of the limbs and hands so you will often see these people talking with their hands and flailing their arms about. Gemini also has some rulership over the lungs so the breath is going to be important as well. They can have a trickster like quality to them and they can look a little wily or coy. Their eyes communicate humor, and they often have small features and an inviting smile. There's definitely a youthful quality to this rising that follows people into their later years, especially if they sort of held on to their playfulness. They're still going to age because everybody ages. This isn't like a Benjamin Button situation, but the playful spirit tends to live on longer. This rising tends to be a little taller with long arms, faces, or fingers, typically slender limbs that have graceful movements. Moving fast or in odd ways is typical, and what I mean by odd ways is maybe contortionists, dancers, athletes, and people who can manipulate the body. As far as soul motivations go, these people are striving to find what it is that calms their restless soul. They are super restless by nature and they're always looking for information. They take in information at an alarming rate and this can make them know a little about a lot or a lot about one specific thing. There is a high potential for intellect. Most of the time. This rising wants people to see them as intelligent and they run off of communication and being able to communicate or spread knowledge about their chosen subject. Finding an outlet like speaking or writing or teaching, that's all going to be great for these people. They can end up being reporters, journalists, or even conduits for esoteric messages. Finding a place where they're communicating with others is going to be where they find their purpose, because a big part of their purpose has to do with the message that they want to give to the world. Cancer, our first water rising, is cardinal water, which is none other than the intuitive, the sensitive, the empathetic Cancer rising. These people are deeply emotional, crabby, and pretty much fueled by their feelings rather than logic. It's not surprising that this is an emotional rising sign, being that it's water, but also this is a moon rule rising, which means emotions come and go like the lunar phases. These people can be crabby and overwhelmed by emotion because they feel the world around them so deeply. And I can say this because my husband has a Cancer rising. When I'm saying crabby, I don't mean it in a bad or derogatory way. It's just that you guys are so sensitive and if you don't work on strengthening that outer shell, then you can get really hurt by things that didn't mean any real harm. Don't let this sensitivity get you down, because it's actually a great strength. You have the gift of awareness, and in today's world, the gift of awareness is like gold. You see things when others don't, and often before anyone else does. You can sense a change before it happens, and you know people's motivations. It's almost like a psychic intuition that you guys have built into your being. People probably don't listen to you about it. They probably doubt you, or they don't believe you. But more often than not, you do end up being right. Depending on the day, you can be super reserved or super social again. Your energy ebbs and flows like the moon. You'll need lots of home time after being social. You love being in your safe space and you love being surrounded by your partner. Or you're very very close. Inner circle and large social gatherings can drain you. Even if you enjoy them, they're still very draining for you. It can take a while for you to give out your full trust, but once you do, you're all in there in the shell. You're super affectionate and you just, you love who you let in. You just love them entirely. You're shrewd and observant, and this comes from your innate intuition and your desire to feel safe. You're constantly gathering information on people and situations and just kind of studying the situation at hand. And this actually makes you a great business person. You're able to make informed decisions and know the right choice to make when others would kind of be lost because they weren't paying attention to everything along the way. Speaking of business, you do tend to be cautious with money and you don't like to take huge risks. You want long term investments that provide stability both financially and emotionally. There are no handouts with this placement. These people work hard for everything they have. They have to climb the ladder rung by rung on their own, but in the end, if they keep at it, they will be able to obtain success equal to their efforts. Praise isn't something that these people receive often for whatever reason, it just seems to happen with this rising sign. And this makes getting the approval of others so important. If approval from others isn't received, that's when the trademark moodiness and wallowing kicks in. Emotional manipulation is part of how this rising sign moves to the world and to a degree survives. So you have to really watch for those behaviors in yourself, especially in your younger years, because younger life can be filled with obstacles and people who don't truly appreciate you. Until you learn to build up that outer shell, people will take advantage of you. So make sure you build up your own confidence and don't rely on just emotional tactics to survive. The main characteristics and buzzwords for a Cancer Rising are sensitive, emotionally driven, intuitive yet naive, loyal, warm, affectionate and caring, soulful, guarded. There's one really big physical characteristic that I find funny. I'm going to save that one for the end. But just generally, there's slender limbs and luminous, warm eyes. The color doesn't really matter here. What really stands out is that the eyes have depth of emotion. They convey some sort of emotion to them. There's a full, beautiful face, often with a slightly pointed chin. The complexion is typically lighter and there's about an average when it comes to height. Cancer rules the stomach and breasts, so people can often have really long torsos or large breasts or even just gain weight in these areas as they age. Now, the biggest thing with cancer rising is that I think is kind of funny is I've noticed they always have kind of like an awkward or noticeably different gait. Now the crab has a very distinct walk, so Cancer risings have a very distinct walk. My husband is flat footed. He doesn't walk with a different gait per SE, but he's definitely very flat footed and he doesn't run. Cancer rising people have a very interesting sole purpose. Cancer is ruled by the moon and is the ultimate nurturing sign. They want to take care of others, even to the point of neglecting themselves. Their sole purpose can be found through the nurturing of others, but also themselves. Being a rock for everyone around them is all good and well, but if they turn that care around and give it to themselves just a little bit, even an ounce of that love, they will find themselves reaching new heights. Many of these people find their purpose through creating a stable family or running a successful business. They need to find something they can continually care for, worry about and watch grow, even if it's honestly just themselves and their own self discovery journey. Leo, our second fire rising, is the powerful, the courageous, the generous, the warm hearted Leo. When I think of the luxury or designer brand of rising signs, Leo is one that definitely comes to mind. There's another one, but Leo is absolutely the first one that pops into my mind. These people are magnets. I know Scorpio gets the reputation for being magnetic, but Leo rising people have a different kind of magnetism. Where Scorpio is rooted in mystery, Leo is rooted in raw energy. These people are warm, kind hearted and they create an aura of warmth around them. On their best days, this rising is like a benevolent king or queen. They don't have time to be petty or rude. But on a not so good day, well then they have plenty of time for petty games. Basically what they get is what they give. If you want to be petty and start shit, a Leo rising will size you up in a second. If you want to be kind and caring, they will warm you up right back. Fixed fire is like a hearth or a fireplace. These people don't set out to be the most popular person or the leader all the time. It just sort of happens because people gravitate towards them and they look to them for guidance. Having natural leadership abilities means they get put in leadership roles from a young age, so they learn to be confident in those spaces early on in life. This can mean that they get used to being the leader and then they get slighted when someone else takes the spotlight. This rising sign is ruled by the sun, which means awareness of self is crucial. They know people are going to be watching them or looking to them, so they're always ready to put on a show, outfits, how they plate their meals, how they decorate their home. Making the mundane spectacular comes naturally to a Leo rising because they know people are going to be watching them. To people that are happy with the simpler things in life, a Leo rising can seem egotistical, self absorbed, materialistic or just needlessly extravagant. And this really couldn't be further from the truth. Leo Rising's just like to adorn themselves in a way that reflects their inner fire and confidence and honestly keep stocking that fire because that confidence is a huge part of how you guys move through the world and also how you achieve success. You just kind of have to ignore the trolls and the people with small minded opinions. You need to keep shining because it's not just an aesthetic for you, it's a way of life. You also do have a bit of a silly side. I don't think people get to see this very often and people might not assume it at first because at first glance you're so put together and you might have kind of a an intimidating disposition, but you do have a really fun and silly side when you let your hair down. The main characteristics and buzzwords for a Leo rising are powerful and proud, dramatic, generous, luxurious, presentation of self, leadership, arrogance, popular and likable. The biggest thing for a Leo rising is obviously the hair. A Leo rising is going to have good hair, whether that means it's thick or they always style it. Their hair is a point of pride. They tend to have a great smile with even teeth. Think of like a lion's grin. That's what comes to mind, like a nice big lion's grin. Typically I see Leo rising with blonde hair or wildly colored hair. Again, it's a point of pride, and that's for the women. And then men actually end up balding in later years, so they'll probably grow a beard. That's typically what I see. Then if they get some kind of facial hair to kind of offset that. Leo is the ruler of the back, spine, and heart. So the upper body is highlighted in some way. And this can mean these people tend to be tall, but more than likely they walk tall. Posture is super important to a Leo rising because posture indicates confidence. Now the sole motivations of Aliyah rising, plain and simple. To be a star, to be the king or queen of their Kingdom, and to be the benevolent leader to those around them. They will find their purpose through the love and adoration of others. It's not in an egotistical way though. Think of a kind and loving king or queen who helps his people and is loved dearly for it. Leo Rising. People need to see themselves and others and take their ego out of the equation. If they can find someone in life that they can relate to on this level, someone that they feel like understands them and knows their struggle, then they're going to feel this deep sense of accomplishment in this lifetime. It can be lonely being at the top all the time. It can be lonely being in the spotlight. It's lonely when you're the leader all the time. You need someone to sit there with you, to share your Kingdom, to help expand on it, and to also help you understand yourself on a deeper level. So really, the sole motivations of this rising sign are to uncover who they truly are, show others, and be accepted for it. Virgo, Our last rising sign for today is Mutable Earth. Virgo risings are logical and observant, but also tender and caring. Virgo risings stand out from other Virgo placements mainly because it tends to be more caring and emotional when placed in the rising sign. Virgos are typically known for being unemotional and more logical, but here we see Virgo as deep and caring towards others. It still comes out more logically than emotionally. Like, don't get it twisted, I'm not saying that Virgo risings are like this deep well of emotion. There's just something about them that's more caring than some of the other logical rising signs. So there's a sense of curation or nurturing that's going on here. Having all the facts is really important to this rising sign. Being well informed is going to help them feel more emotionally available. This is the other Mercury rule rising. So again, facts, intellect, information, learning, teaching, helping, those are all going to be ways in which these people move through the world. While they want facts and data, they aren't immovable in their opinion. They can be convinced otherwise. If you prove something to them with facts, they'll review every bit of the case presented before switching their outlook or opinion. But they do have the ability to pivot thanks to their mutable nature. Again, all the mutable signs, they're constantly changing, constantly evolving. Out of all the earth risings, this is definitely the most flexible one. Virgo is an earth sign, as we all know, and it's known for being the detailed oriented perfectionist of the Zodiac. The way this manifests in the rising is as a tendency to get bogged down by the little things. These people will often lose sight of the big picture because they're too focused on something small. That attention to detail can be really awesome and it makes them great editors and it can help them have great pattern recognition. But it can also lead them astray and have them chasing red herrings and having them put all their motivations into editing this one tiny little thing and getting it perfect and never moving on to actually completing a project. I do find the attention a detail thing makes them one of the most put together looking risings. They can curate a look that rivals Libra and Leo. People tend to rave about Libra and Leo risings in their fashion, but a Virgo rising definitely has talent in that department as well. So if you're a Virgo rising, I see you. I'm not sleeping on your talent. I see that you have a lot of fashion going on. A sense of control is the most important thing here. Virgo risings need to feel like they're in control of their life, body, mind, finances, relationship, pretty much everything. Without that sense of control, they can become anxious and prone to mental health issues, especially anxiety. There is a sweet shyness to Virgo Risings. People want to know you, but they can't always get to you. If someone wants to know the real you, they have to prove themselves worthy and put in the effort. It can be hard for you to show your feelings, but that doesn't mean you don't have them. There's really a lot going on beneath the surface with a Virgo Rising. The main characteristics and buzzwords for Virgo risings are curated and neat, tender, caring, logical, anxious and observant, Tactile in nature and detail oriented. Physically speaking, these people are sweet and gentle faced. The face is often Oval in appearance. The eyes have some kind of innocence to them that take in everything. They might have those big kind of doe eyes. Virgo is the sign of the maiden or the virgin, so there's definitely a subtle sweetness or naivety to their physical appearance. Vary average in height and have a moderate build that tends to be on the larger side unless they put in diligent work. They honestly look good regardless of aesthetic or body type and know how to present themselves or curate their body accordingly. Usually they have darker features or even kind of bird like features. Mercury bestows bird like qualities at times to these people and this can be through innocence. It can be fast twitch movement or again just bird like features. When it comes to the sole motivations of a Virgo rising, we need to look at the ruling planet. Mercury is the ruling planet same as Gemini. But unlike Gemini, Virgo isn't on a search for endless knowledge. Instead, Virgo risings are looking to educate and help others. Your purpose can be found when you learn to communicate your inner world with others. You're smart. You need to believe in yourself so you can lend your skills and abilities to others. Helping to curate, edit, teach, or just lend your innate talents is part of what you're meant to do in this lifetime, and this can make people accuse you of being critical or too harsh. But you're really just trying to help people, trying to get them to perfection. You may never achieve gigantic amounts of fame or recognition, and if you do, you're gonna probably shy away from it because Virgo is a sign that likes to be behind the scenes for you, your sole purpose.
