Refurbished Things

(upbeat music) Hi again everybody, welcome back to the MilesPath cast, the flagship podcast of "Refurbished Things." Or maybe, ew, let's put it so, my "Refurbished" era sounds better. I've always preferred to get like new things, like if I was to get like a new device or a new electronic, I've heard a new, it's just how I always was, I get that's what I was into. But man lately, I don't know if it's having kids or what, but now, or maybe just, just, it's probably that. But lately I've gotten two "Refurbished" things, both of which been fantastic and has saved me so, so much. I feel like before I wouldn't even consider it, now it's like, oh man, I feel like it's a device, and it's a very like lightly used device. It, especially if there's like not a huge jump between that and then like something brand new, I mean, why not? The first one I got was last Black Friday. I got a new camera lens, like a really, really nice top of the line camera lens. So not all, I got "Refurbished". So not only did I get "Refurbished" from Canon, but I also got it on Black Friday. And it saved, it made it affordable, quite frankly, and it saved me hundreds up on hundreds of dollars, and made it something that I would actually consider, whereas I don't like that everyone would have considered paying its, you know, ticket price without those two discounts on top of it. And then I just got a new computer monitor. I've needed a new monitor, a for like a bigger screen for like editing pictures, and then be just to have like a second monitor for working stuff. And that, you got also like a camera lens, they're pretty lightly used. And when they're used, they're not, you know, no one's grabbing and doing things with the monitor in a camera lens, kind of the same thing. It's just on a camera and you just, you turn it for zoom and such. Things don't get used very much. So I'm like, "Oh, let's just see if I can get it "Refurbished." And again, made it saved hundreds up on hundreds of dollars. It's been so worth it. Both devices are more or less brand new. I mean, you never would have known they're lightly used, and it's been awesome. And it's, it's, it's something that I never thought that, you know, I guess it's kids, you know, it's the space of my life and having kids and stuff. It's like it's just priorities change and they shift. And here we are. But it's all good. Today the show, I finally got to order something. I've been wanting to order for the longest time. And I'm so excited. It should be here today, perhaps tomorrow, but I'm excited about it. Got to talk about that. The IOU1, a couple, a couple little things here and there. And then Sean's what are you into? I was just outside this time of year. I absolutely love. And we got to hit on that. But first, tell me something good. Tell me something good. Since last year, I have been wanting to get a new, a Mariners jersey, basically, and a custom one, especially hearing, hearing like Rick Rizz, this is last year. I've wanted to get Rick Rizz jersey 'cause at the end of the day, he's my favorite Mariner. But I've been holding out 'cause I assume there was gonna be a new Mariners City Connect jersey. Turns out, there wasn't. Because they introduced a different new jersey. They're like steel heads, Sunday, cream, jerseys, which are awesome. And I really liked them, but I had to hold out 'cause I'm like, I wanna get like a new City Connect jersey because the City Connect jersey is basically, it's this new customish take on jerseys that I like attribute to the city. So like the last one they had had like myomy on it as a tribute to like Dave Nehouse. And there's a bunch of, it's like, the colors are really cool. It was just a very different looking jersey out of the norm. And sometimes it's really cool. But turns out, I did so much research, like waiting for them to announce that like looking for leaks, finally, it's funny 'cause now I record this officially now they've released and the official looks of all the jerseys. But at the time I found a leak where it gave every team and the Mariners want to include on that. So I'm like, all right, let's try and order it. So in the next problem came, which is this year, MLB is like updating all of their jerseys. I don't know what they did for the players last year or if that was a this year thing. I think it was this year because a couple years ago they had a big problem 'cause the jerseys, they switched materials, they'd like cheaped out, they were like see through and if you sweat, you could see straight through them and there's this big, big deal. So they read it the jerseys with better materials. Thing is though, because they produce so many of last year's jerseys and they have a lot of extra still hanging on, it's really, really hard to buy jerseys online right now because they want to get rid of their old stock. They don't want to give you the new stock yet because they want to get rid of the old stuff, which I get, it makes sense. So again, tons and more research later. I just have the mindset where you can pretty much find anything you want online and it works because I found out and I found the account of the head of the custom jersey department for this Seattle Mariners. I found her on threads, I messaged her and it's funny because at the team store they sell a lot of jerseys they don't sell online because again, they don't have as much old stock to get rid of. Maybe they're not tied to it. But man, this person was so helpful. I mean, I could do an IOU1 for this person, I think her name was like Pixel Wolf on threads. But I was able to message her and I found out like they're stock and they had what I wanted, got prices, got the details and like how to order this stuff, the details that you need and then of course, how to go about order it because, spoiler alert, you couldn't order it again online. You had to order it over the phone by calling their team store, which is like, it's like straight out of, I remember like going to a grandma's house and we were like eight or nine years old and she like order stuff out of a catalog for us. You'd call it the number and you'd give the product number and everything. That's what it felt like. 'Cause I had to dial it up, I had to give everything I needed. It's, which is hard in this day and age because you got to give your email address and your phone number and your address and it's just a lot of details to give over the phone with especially with stuff that could get messed up. Like I had to make sure that they spelled Riz right because Riz has an S at the end and the person didn't know that and it's a bunch of little things. Anyway, long story short, I called it up, I got it ordered. Also, so here's the deal. If anyone's looking to buy jerseys, so here's how the naming schemes work and again, I found this up with tons of research. Last year's jerseys, they had three tiers. There was replica, limited and oh my gosh, I just, where did that go? Limited, oh elite. Yeah, so there's replica, limited and then elite. And it was in those three tiers. Repicas are cheaper jerseys, their materials aren't as high quality, they're like iron on stuff. It just isn't as good whereas limited and then elites like your top of the line, like $400 plus jersey, that's like the same as what they were on the field. Just way way nicer. If you see those, just know that they're with the older materials, they're not as nice as the new ones. They're still great and hopefully you can have a discount, but that's last year's models. This year's stuff, which is really cool 'cause it comes with the mariners like 50 year patch and all that stuff. They have new tiers, the lower one's still replica, but then it's stadium and then it's authentic. So I got like a, I got the middle of the road and didn't want to pay for 400 bucks for a jersey. So I got the stadium version, which is quite a bit cheaper. And then I was able to get it customized. I got the steel head, their new variant jersey, which looks awesome. Got Riz with the 41 on the back. I got the patches and stuff. It's, and they shipped it on Monday. So it should be here. I record this on Thursday. It should be here Thursday. Hopefully by Friday, it's the very, very latest, but I'm so excited about it. It was an absolute journey to find all of this stuff because it's just not online. Like they're trying to get rid of their old stuff and you just can't find, you can't find this new variety online at all outside of like a replica call jersey. There's no mention of customization or really any other players. You got to call the team store, which is they were so helpful. They, I couldn't not have asked for more. They were great. They made it all easy. I think really, really great. Great people to manage team store. But that's, that's what I'm telling you something good. I finally got this jersey. I've been saving up for a long time. I've won it since last year and we are really close. And I'm so excited about it. Rik Riz jersey, it's gonna be awesome. Hopefully here today or tomorrow. All right, I owe you one. (upbeat music) ♪ You know who you are, yeah, who you want ♪ On top of what I just talked about with the Pixel Wolf on Threads Hill. It was so much A for Lori. Kendall's mom, she was so helpful. The girls didn't have school on Monday. And talked about it last week. We've been through it with illnesses and sicknesses where that's the girls or their teacher at school, their daycare person. And it's just been one thing after another. So because of that, I've missed like tons of like little bits here and there at work. Like a half day here, half day there. And it just adds up and I feel guilty canceling on patients. So they had another up day on Monday and thank goodness. Lori was able to come up and watch the girls all day. Which again, this was a day. This was the Monday after Easter. So we weren't able to do any Easter stuff because the girls were still too sick. They weren't there. And because of that, man, emotions were running high. We were just coming off of illnesses. So it was meltdowns and frustration. It was a long weekend and to be able to hand the girls off to Lori and not have to worry about that again. Oh, lifesaver and to be able to go to work. Grateful for that. So thank you, Lori, for making that workout. It was so, so helpful to not have to miss miss any more work and not have to go through that. And then also, I was really excited about this. I don't feel like I'm cheap because I, but I don't like paying like full price when I know you can get things out of discount. It's like subway, for example. I love subway and I, but you never pay full price because I know they're discount codes that you can always get. And there's a lot of things on the internet these days. Like anytime there's a discount code box, you look hard enough on Reddit. You're going to find a discount code and save yourself like 10 or 15 bucks. So because of that, I was able to, to back up, I've been wanting to rewatch the show lost for a second time, for a very long time. I remember I rewatched it in 2015, 2016, which is crazy because that was only several years after it ended. We're now 10 years past that. It's like we are overdue for a rewatch. And I love that show. Problem is it's on Hulu, which we don't have. Bigger problem yet. Like Hulu, obviously like a lot of them now have tears of pricing and like 11 bucks for ads, which Hulu ads are the longest. They're out of any, out of any streaming service. The Hulu ads are the worst because for one of the reasons, it's like three minutes an ad and it takes, It takes forever to watch an hour long show. It takes by closer to an hour. One of the why it should be closer to 42, 43 minutes. Didn't want to do that. And I didn't want to pay for the hired tiered one because and this is there's six episodes or six seasons in the series and who knows how long this is going to take. I looked online and you can buy like the box set for 90 bucks. But there it goes on off sale all the time. The way the different sites do it, whether you're using prime video or Apple TV, whatever may be that have the digital box sets, which in all fairness, you go out and buy blue rays or the DVD sets. Problem is I don't have a blue ray or a DVD player. So I got to bite digitally. I didn't want it to go through. It looks just takes longer. So I was able to find this site like tracks prices and it shows like the lowest price it's ever been and the highest price it's ever been. Usually it's like 90 bucks for the whole box set of the series, all six seasons. Found this site though that that gauges and has like a record of the history of it and like shows like on this date, it went down to 60 bucks. And on this date, it went up back up to 90 and on this date, it went back down. And lo and behold, I find this site on the same day where it shows like the usual price, which I'd seen before. So it was legit. And the lowest price and it just so happened that the lowest price was on this day. It was on last Sunday, last Sunday night. And like I've got to jump all over. It's 50 bucks for all six seasons. I didn't have a bath. That's two months basically of Hulu without ads. And again, I think it's going to take me longer than two months to get through it. So bargain, absolute deal jumped all over it. So another one, I owe you one for this for this price tracking site. It worked out great. I tell you if I knew what it was, but I looked at my history. I don't even know where it's at, but it's it's got to be easily findable. But it's cool because it tracks like these and they it's funny because it goes up and down all the time. And why pay 90 bucks when you could wait a month and get it for 50, which I did. So I'm excited about it. I the only thing is now I got a convinced Kendall to watch it with me because she's watched one episode, which if you've seen lost for whatever reason, like the first two episodes are almost like scary-ish, like they've got it's just more horror. I feel like the rest of the show even gets close to. So Kendall, we've got to get through one season. Half a season. Okay, we can just get through 12 episodes where they get to that first break. I don't want to give anything away, but there's a clear spot halfway through the season. I feel like I feel like she'd be into it. I love lost. I know there was a lot of like controversy over the end of it. I thought they stuck that landing perfectly. I you couldn't have done it better than they did. And I'm excited to get through all of it again. I love that show so much. I think my favorite show, perhaps all time. That are Chuck, which I'm also rewatching again. One of the two. Anyways, on to the next. Sean's, what are you into? All right, listeners. It's time for Hidden Passions, Wild Hobbies, and that one thing they didn't know miles was obsessed with. Buckle up. It's time for Sean's. What are you into? It is this time, this time of year. I love like I don't know how people I get it. I get like living in the South, having nice weather. I love the changing of the seasons because right now we are flipping from kind of the winterish times to full on spring. Like it has been nice all week long. We've been in the 60s. It feels like 80 relative to what we're used to. The sun's out being outside. It's just so great. But for me, I've always loved April especially because 10 years ago now, I finished up my second fieldwork. I officially graduated from school on March, March 27, was my last day. I had this period of time where I got done with that. I had nothing else because that was my last school-based thing for getting my OT degree. Because of where I was for these internships, it was easy for me to get a job because I was in a position in a placement where they needed a person and I'd been with them for 12 weeks for this internship for school and they liked me and it worked out perfect. So I didn't have to worry about getting a job. The biggest thing in this period of time though was I didn't have to study for boards for the big final test to get licensed. Generally, you want to give yourself some time for that. So I basically had a month. I had all of April and 10 years ago, if you remember in 2016 in April, it was the single nicest weather we've ever had for this time of year. There was strings upon strings of 8 degree weather. So I was fortunate I didn't have to work. I didn't have school anymore. I was in between this last period of my life before I truly got a job and had a full-time job that I could just lay outside and study. Or I'd go up to the lake and get stuff ready out there and then I'd study. It was awesome because I had no obligations. I just had to study for this. And then the midst of all this was when I had started talking to Kendall. We had already made plans to go to Paris, which would happen in about three weeks from now. So it's just this perfect stage of my life where I'd finished school. I had all I had to do with study. Not a whole lot of obligations. Studying never really bothered me because I knew how to do it. And I was like this joy and excitement of talking to this girl that I just met and we're going to go to a first date in Paris. It's just all this crazy stuff. Beautiful weather going to the lake, just kind of having this the time of my life. I love April. And like I now, well, I can like listen to certain songs and just takes me back. I was talking to one of our people here at work. And I don't know if this is just a me thing and it very much could be. But you need to listen to Christmas music around Christmas because there's certain songs that take you back, especially like all the old ones. It just takes you to different point in time. For me, I like music kind of throughout the year that I'll listen to only around this time of year, only in April or only in October, for example. And it's like certain albums that just take me back because of that and because they're so tied to this point in my life or those points in my life. And I love it. And it's great. But yeah, what I'm into, I love, I love this time of year. And especially now that we've got the nice weather that suns out, it feels like it did. And this magical time of my life 10 years ago and it's cool. It's great. But 10 years ago now is outside studying, getting ready, trying to study some French, studying Paris, like how to get around where to stay, flights, all that great stuff. And on April 30th was when we'd be there and everything would go down and it'd be awesome. But yeah, love the sun of year, love the weather. We're finally there. Spring break. Good shot for all the kids for lining up spring break with great weather. That never happens. It never really seemed to happen. But here we are. Anyways, thank you all for listening.
