What's going on, y'all?
Bud Ellin here of the Cover 3 College World Podcast.
That's Andrew Ivins, and that is, guess what?
It must be a Wednesday.
Because we are doing the Cover 3 Recruiting Show.
Andrew, welcome back, man.
How we doing, bud?
Hey, big weekend for me.
Completed a personal quest.
I've now seen Travis Hunter make an interception at every level, right?
So I saw one at Collins Hill when he was in high school.
Saw one in person when he was at Jackson State.
Saw one at Colorado.
And then this past weekend, my buddies have been begging me to go to a Jags game.
I go, and hey, first career interception for the former. I mean, trophy winner.
Former number one prospect for 24-7 sports.
So I checked it off, bud.
Seen Travis Hunter do it at every level.
And I think maybe outside of his family.
I don't know how many other people can say that.
Dude, that is awesome.
He's just so much fun to watch.
And it's cool to see him balling out there now.
Aren't they coming to Orlando next year?
They are.
They are.
I just couldn't wait, right?
As soon as he was drafted by the Jags, I'm like, I got to complete it, right?
The four for four.
So yes.
And I will say this.
He was a good. Good reminder that, man, when you get to the NFL, they can just put pounds on you.
He was noticeably more physically developed in the upper half.
And it's just a good reminder in the world of scouting that even those hard gainers,
they find a way when there's a ton of money on the line.
Absolutely.
All right.
Let's go ahead and get into this.
So Travis Hunter doing well.
A team not doing so well recently on the field is Cal.
Cal came into the season with a ton of hype.
Quarterback JKS deciding to stay.
New coach Tosh Lupoi comes in, who traditionally has been known as a recruiter.
You know, kind of mixed opinions on him on the actual coaching front.
And they have a little hard luck loss, I would say, against Clemson.
Like, if you look at some of the net success rate stuff out there, Cal, on a down-to-down
basis, outplayed Clemson pretty handily.
But at the same time, they still lost the game due to some turnovers and, I believe,
a punt return.
And now they've what?
They've. didn't play very well at Syracuse, you lost to UCLA, you've lost to Clemson.
You are an underdog as we record this at UNLV this weekend.
That's a UNLV team that got blown out by North Texas.
So recruiting, hey man, losses have consequences, right?
And unfortunately for them, they do lose four-star receiver Charles Davis,
number 13, in the top 247.
It's his little brother, I believe, or his older brother, rather,
who is much smaller.
So littler but older brother is actually on Cal's roster.
Top 100 overall kid here.
So he's committed to Cal but, quote,
reopening his recruitment after the struggles against Clemson.
So that's not a decommitment, I guess, technically, but it is, basically.
We're calling it a decommitment, dude.
Yeah, we're calling it a decommitment,
but I think this is the biggest recruiting news
of the year.
Of the week.
And I know there's a bunch of visits going on,
but man, when this came across my timeline on Saturday, right,
so Charles saw Cal struggle against Clemson,
I was like, whoa, this is a big deal.
And that's because I think Charles Davis is an absolute freak show.
I think he is a guy that is going to rise in our top 247 rankings.
And I'm going to throw this out there,
like this is a dark horse to finish as a five-star at 247 sports.
He, you know, he's six foot four, he's 205 pounds.
He can fly on the track and he has just grown into this go-to target there
at Westlake High School out in California.
I'm excited to see who gets involved here because I think if you are a CFP
contender, you have to look at Charles Davis,
just what he has been able to do.
He has 17 touchdowns on his last 51 catches.
You see the clips up here on the screen.
These are from this past Friday.
The way he moves,
at his size talking with Blair and Gulo out on the West coast for 24 seven
sports.
He said, UCLA is a school to keep an eye on.
He mentioned Oregon SMU also throughout Texas tech,
USC and Miami,
which are some of the biggest spenders in that name image and likeness area.
So I call this guy thoroughbred like textbook height,
weight, speed, pass catcher.
At one time we were talking about listed him as a tight end.
Forget it.
Just, just view him as a pass catcher.
We did the same thing with KJ Duff at Rutgers.
You look at him now and he's one of the top wide receivers in all of college
football.
So bottom line here is if this kid's looking around and your school gets
linked to Charles Davis,
you got to be excited because I think this guy, again,
he's got all league potential.
He's got Sunday traits to play on in,
you know,
in the NFL and it's all rounding into form at the right time.
So he's a huge stock up guy for us.
And I think someone can get a game breaker late in the process.
It's hard to find those really good X's man.
And when you have one,
it just changes for like,
look,
look at Ohio state with Jeremiah,
you know,
look at Coleman,
obviously against Tennessee,
got a homework assignment for you.
Go watch Mike Evans,
high school tape.
Because I was watching that.
I was like,
Ooh,
okay.
I don't know if you already have a player comp or not,
but just like young Mike Evans go.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And,
and,
and here's the other thing,
you know,
bud,
as,
as we kind of get into like the weeds of this rankings and finalizing it,
we're going,
I bet on the guys we've seen it do it in a best on best setting.
And Charles Davis was awesome this summer at the OT seven finals.
You know,
I get it shirts and shorts.
He was awesome at the opening finals,
but he's going up against blue chip defensive backs.
He's creating separation and he's playing over above opponents shoulder pad.
So,
you know,
again,
stock up guy for us.
Yeah.
Someone where I think,
you know,
is it UCLA with what Bob Chesney has been able to do?
They have a ton of momentum out there.
Is it Oregon as they kind of restructure,
their recruiting class,
Miami last cycle was as active as anyone when it came to those senior season
evaluation,
same thing with Texas tech.
So this,
this is the one that got me fired up over the weekend.
I liked the Mike Evans again,
I KJ Duff,
a little more supercharged.
I think is a cop there.
Reed Harris,
what he's doing at Arizona state,
but you are right.
These X's you,
you would think there's a ton of them out there.
I remember this past transfer portal window talking with some personnel people
like,
they can't find the X's with proven production.
And the other thing when they do huge,
huge price tag,
look at Isaiah and everywhere he's bounced around.
So you're right.
Like this guy unlocks a lot.
for your scheme and it's going to be easy to see why everyone wants to grab these guys when they
come available at x is also sort of like the one skill position where you have to pay for the
privilege of developing them out of high school right like like often to tackle the five stars
you're expecting to play right away the four stars you're kind of paying for the privilege
of developing developing them and you might get them on a cost-controlled basis in year two a
little bit if they don't play a whole lot in year one which is a like obviously a savings relative
to the market of having to go out in the free market and go and get somebody in the portal
who's played a whole bunch but i feel like x's take a little bit longer to develop in some of
these slots you know sometimes um all right staying on cal well is it elias this was not by
spelling here is throwing throwing me this was not this is not like hey anti-cal podcast it was
we're going to talk about charles davis and then oh by the way georgia flips the number one ranked
junior college cornerback in the country and this kid is good
you
heard a lot about him too dude yes and and gabe brooks heads up our junior college ranking so
georgia flips mayo on tuesday after he spends the weekend in athens on an official visit cal actually
beat out georgia alabama and plenty of others back in august to land a commitment from uh mayo there
and but this is if you want to apply it to 2027 like this is a big deal this is a needle mover you
turn on the
tape and what mayo is able to do he's ready to go plug and play and why is that important for
georgia well uh both of their outside corners right now are technically draft eligible uh that
would be ellis robinson de mello jones i mean their third year players ellis has been linked to
the nfl heavily georgia believe it or not has kind of it's kind of struck out on some of their
cornerback targets here in recent cycles so they needed a guy that that could plug in play and
uh you said it i mean we haven't verified at at
six three and a half 190 pounds five interceptions last season's already got an interception this
season but what when you turn on the tape to me it's like oh no wonder georgia wants this guy
look at him make the open field tackles he attacks leverage he swipes legs like this is the type of
player that makes the georgia defensive machine hum and i i think it's a huge huge addition you
can also turn and locate the football in the deeper third uh people seem to overlook that
with the cornerback position what
happens when it actually comes your way well you better be able to make a play on the ball
mayo can do just that and but i also thought it was just an interesting segue just junior
college recruiting right it seems like it went away during the transfer portal but it's it's
making a comeback and you look at last year's nfl draft i think there was 12 former junior
college players selected you look at the past two nfl drafts there's been four corners selected
from the that were at one point in the junior college ranks and guess what they all seem to be
like these two players that are going to be in the transfer portal and they're going to be
these big pterodactyls i always joke with our guys i'm like every year it seems like there's this
six three or six four corner that every college football playoff contender wants this year it's
mayo and this is a huge huge win for georgia so i i'm always interested in the backstory if you
know like how did he end up at juco i think we're going to see more of this and he's a guy that a
late bloomer yeah and i i think we are going to see more of these players in the future and i
in the junior college ranks because if you think about it how accelerated this recruiting process
has gotten for everyone uh senior you know classes are filled out well before the senior seasons are
underway now there's some programs that have the resources have the personnel to continue to make
evaluations but if you take a guy like mayo very raw in high school probably wasn't on the power
four radars group of six maybe you know they're going to take it pull the trigger on him uh but
he's a guy that didn't have a ton of options so i think it's going to be a big win for georgia
so i think we're going to see more of this and schools are certainly open to adding these junior
college players because unlike the transfer portal hey i can sign them i know i have them on the
roster i can pencil them into our cornerback competition and i don't have to worry about
getting into this bidding war in a 10-day window where we're speed dating and crossing our fingers
that that kid shows up and starts class you know next week on monday and we get them in for
practices so i i think we're going to see more teams kind of hone in on this and i think we're
going to see more teams kind of hone in on these junior college guys and get them if they can
it like it used to be you ended up at junior college for you know grades um injury late
bloomer certainly would make sense i think with the portal and with all the extra eligibility
that we've had especially like some of that's kind of just working its way out of the system
right all the covid guys are gone you know some of the waiver guys are gone now a lot of them
will be gone you know by next year with the advent of five for five but it did lead to some program
taking smaller high school classes you know and thus like more guys getting pushed down to g6 more
guys getting pushed down to fcs like the next kind of natural progression there what was was to go and
hey i'm just going to go somewhere i can play and and show what what i can do so fascinating note
there on mayo um you know cal that's uh that's rough man like you bring in lupoi um that like i
think dan wetzel of yahoo said it well like uh his value is as a recruiter if they're if they're
guys that's uh that's not a promising start there uh for sure in berkeley but a lot of time to catch
up still a lot to see you know if that staff can rally and get things together and the last thing
i'm gonna say on the juco's in this era man and but i know you watched last chance you was a while
ago juco ball is not for everyone and i think if you're a guy that can go there and have success
now you're showing up and you're in these football facilities and you've never seen anything like it
it's it's a lot different than taking a guy from another
state and you're in these football facilities and you've never seen anything like it it's it's a lot
cfp contender and inserting you them on your roster where you know they they already are
expecting things you're taking a guy and you're giving them an opportunity so i think those
individuals have an edge and again as we talk about rust roster construction in this 105 era
you want guys that want to be in the building and certainly a guy that you know doesn't have all of
the amenities is certainly going to appreciate it when he shows up no doubt about it all right
we'll wrap this little cal and junior college segment on the flip side actually have a program
doing really well on and off the field we'll get into that next we recently took a trip down to new
orleans and made a full weekend out of exploring the city one of the best parts definitely the food
we made sure to try some of the new orleans classics gumbo jambalaya po boys and of course
beignets love the powdered sugar we also spent some time walking around the french quarter
and taking in the music and the energy of the crescent city it was one of those trips where
there's always something new to eat see or experience and it made for a great getaway
but while i was away my home just sat there empty it got me thinking when you're heading out of town
why not put your space to use while you're gone you could list your space on airbnb and give
someone else the chance to experience your city especially when your city has a big event coming
up whether it's a big game a concert a festival there are even more people
looking for places to stay it is such a practical way to earn extra money that can go right towards
funding the next road trip or covering upcoming household bills it fits seamlessly into your
travel plans because you're already going to be away anyway your home might be worth more than
you think find out how much at airbnb.com slash host hitting your weekly protein goals comes
down to whether or not you have good ingredients ready to go in the kitchen
that's why butcher box has become an essential part of my routine instead of making last minute
grocery runs or overthinking meal prep i know i always have incredible options waiting for me
i'm a huge fan of their ground beef and pork chops and having them on hand makes sunday meal
planning completely stress-free it's such a relief knowing i can grill up something for friends
without even leaving the house butcher box delivers 100 grass-fed beef organic
chicken wild-caught seafood and more all sourced to standards they can actually tell you about

is decide what's for dinner it's like having that neighborhood butcher who handles all the sourcing
work so you don't have to if you're looking for an easier way to get great meals on the table

be sure to use our link so they know that we sent you welcome back into the cover for recruiting
episode that's andrew ivan's director of scouting for 24-7 sports and uh you know i know both of us
have been very high on john somerall for for quite some time but i'm not going to go into
man florida is dude they are on fire on the field they're on fire on the recruiting trail as well
currently ranked 11th with 25 commits uh number six in the sec and uh ivan's my show notes here
said you think they might have a shot to push for uh maybe a top five class if all breaks right for
them yeah i mean that i think would take a lot of a lot of pieces falling into place i don't know if
hey this 2027 cycle florida is going to challenge for the top five but i
I certainly think the 2028 cycle
And it's surprising to me since 2020, I guess it isn't that surprising,
but to just kind of say it out loud, you know,
Florida's only had one top five ranked class since 2020, and that was in 2025.
And if you watch the Gators over the weekend,
there was a lot of guys from that 2025 class making plays.
That's Burnell Brown III, that's Dallas Wilson, Jaden Woods,
Duke Clark, the running back.
So another example of, you know, getting it done on the high school front
can translate to success on Saturdays.
And you look at this 2027 class, 11th now,
I think as we reshuffle the rankings and everyone else does,
I think they can climb certainly into the top 10 status.
And I think they're going to have an opportunity to hunt for some flips.
And, Bud, to me, I mean, where is the strength of this haul?
It starts on the offensive line.
You saw the five-star at the top of the list, Maxwell Hiller.
If you haven't been on 247sports.com, check it out.
Brian Doan wrote a story about Maxwell Hiller and his brother,
who's a five-star.
He's a five-star recruit in the class of 2028 for basketball.
Maxwell Hiller, man, this guy is awesome, Bud.
Like, he might have the highest floor in the entire class.
You see him here on the screen doing that split box jump.
Remember when Evan Neal went viral all those years ago?
I mean, this guy, he is a mauler.
He is a road grader, whatever you want to say.
And really, you know, as we kind of prep for this,
you want to talk about John Summerall coming.
And all the changes he's made.
He hires Phil Trotwine, who played at Florida.
He comes in from Penn State.
And this is the Phil Trotwine effect.
I mean, Maxwell Hiller, two years ago,
everyone thought he was going to be a Nittany line.
He was headed to state college, in-state program.
Now he is a Florida Gator.
And Bud, to me, I think he's got a chance to play year one next season.
And, you know, just Phil Trotwine, again, what he's been able to do.
I mean, this is super personnel nerdy and all that.
But Bryce Lovett, their left tackle.
I mean, the development of that guy just had his best pass-blocking performance
ever, according to PFF, against Ole Miss, a really talented Ole Miss front.
That guy had never taken a snap at left tackle in his previous three years
at Florida.
And Phil Trotwine is just getting the most of him.
And you look ahead, and the trajectory of this program,
Florida only has one senior on the offensive line.
I mean, I think Maxwell Hiller is a guy that,
is going to have an opportunity to play.
You know, we list him as an interior offensive lineman.
I think he could play those tackle spots.
But at minimum, I think for Florida, this is a starting guard next season.
They also got Peyton Miller committed, in my opinion,
the top center prospect here in the class of 2027.
So I love the offensive line haul.
And then, no surprise, they're adding these talented wide receivers
that fit what Buster Faulkner wants to do.
Guys, you can get.
Bim the football in the quick game, and they can create chunk plays.
So that's Elias Pearl, a big win for them back during the spring months.
I mean, this guy is, you know, what's the profile arc for him?
It's Eric Singleton, Vernell Brown, Eugene Wilson.
Like, one of these guys, you use the pre-snap motion,
get him the ball in space.
He was hurt early on as a senior.
He has rebounded nicely.
Just got a chance to watch what he did this past Friday.
They also got Tremont Collins out of Florida's panhandle.
Kind of reminds me of Eric Rivers.
Who Buster Faulkner had at Georgia Tech.
So the strength of the class is what they're getting on offense.
And it just fits what they're doing now, what we see on Saturdays
in terms of all the eye candy, getting the guys the ball in space,
and being a downhill force when it comes to running the football.
So that's the strength of the class to me.
And this is a really, really impressive group.
It's not just limited to 27.
They're making some big-time moves in 28 as well.
I know you mentioned that.
They made a move with Bryson Wright, the No. 3 prospect in the 2028 class.
You see Bryson as a receiver long-term?
He's so big already, but man, the guy can play.
Yeah, and I feel like every episode we've brought up Bryson Wright.
He's the No. 3 overall player right now in the class of 2028.
So that's a high school junior.
No. 1 wide receiver.
But I think we're going to learn a lot about the top of the food chain
because it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun.
It sounds like, talking with Zach Bocey and all these other guys,
the top three for Bryson Wright is Florida, Texas, and Miami.
And every week it kind of shifts as to where he's leaning,
who's in the driver's seat.
I think Florida is the team that has the momentum.
I mean, he was in the swamp there.
You're right, super unique player.
There was a time where I'm like, hey, is he a Kenyan?
The end, yeah.
Yeah, is he a Kenyan, Sadiq type of tight end?
I think he sticks at wide receiver.
I think you need to view him through the lens of wide receiver.
I think he's like a Drake London.
I don't know how well Bryson Wright is ever going to test,
but he makes these acrobatic grabs.
He is a contested catch type of specialist,
and he's a guy that can do it in the red zone.
So Florida, certainly involved there.
And talking with some people in Gainesville over the past 48 hours,
they are fired up about the commitment they received on Sunday
from Samuel Bailey, offensive tackle, OT 11 for us in the class,
a kid that's out of Alabama, commits to the Gators.
This is a guy that, bud, I'm going to throw out something.
I don't know if you've heard it in a while.
You remember Friday Night Lights under Urban Meyer?
We saw an addition of that under Dan Mullen.
We saw Billy Napier do it.
And this past year, it seems like John Summerall and his staff
really kind of revamped that event.
And they had a lot of these top underclassmen there,
and Samuel Bailey's one of them.
He ends up committing to the Gators.
Again, he's from Alabama, so you think, hey, the Crimson Tide are there.
You know, you got Alex Gillesh in Auburn, but he commits to Florida.
Florida, if you look at all the success they've had in previous years
and when they've been at their best, there's been a lot of guys
from the state of Alabama on that roster.
So they love this Samuel Bailey kid playing some right tackle now
as a senior, monster, monster, monster features.
He's, in my opinion, probably going to be the headliner for them
or one of the headliners in the class of 2020.
But they continue to chip away.
And, you know, it felt like a year ago, all right, Mario Cristobal and Miami
are going to get whoever they want to get in the state of Florida.
I think John Summerall and his staff are quickly kind of changing
that narrative a little bit in terms of, all right, it's not just Miami State.
We're going to get some guys as well and take advantage
of Florida State being down.
No doubt about it.
I think you have to.
And, I mean, Ivins, we've done this for a long time.
It's one thing.
It's one thing to go into the state of Alabama if you're the Gators
and get an offensive tackle who you liked before the rest of the market liked.
Right?
This kid's already rated highly.
Bama knows about him.
Tennessee knows about him.
Georgia knows about him.
Right?
It's not like one of these, you know, kids from, you know, southeast Alabama
where Gainesville's, you know, just about as close as a lot of the NRC schools.
Like, that's huntsville.
I mean, like, that's a drive.
And I think that really speaks to the recruiting chops that Florida has
on the trail right now for them to be able to go into that state
and get that kid.
And they're going to have to hold on to him, obviously.
Like, there will be, you know, fierce competition for a player of that caliber.
But, like, that's a huge win, you know, for them already.
We'll have to see, you know, what else the Gators can do here down the stretch.
It's in our second break.
And on the flip side, we're going to talk about one of Florida's big-time rivals
who had a heck of a weekend of their own next.
College football season is Modelo season.
There's nothing quite like a college football Saturday.
The fight songs, the rivalries, the traditions,
passed down from one generation of fans to the next.
And, of course, they're settling in for a full day of football with a Chris Modelo.
Because Saturdays are for the gridiron and Cervasus.
College football is built on tradition.
And no one knows tradition like Modelo.
From the fanquakes that shake the stadium to the rivalry trophies
that mean everything year after year,
these traditions are what make Saturday special.
So if you're listening to this, consider it your sign.
Grab a Chris Modelo, settle in, and enjoy Saturday.
And enjoy a full day of college football.
Because it's just not game day, it's tradition.
And those who keep college football traditions alive deserve a Modelo.

Hey, welcome back into the Cup of the Recruiting episode.
That's Andrew Ivins, National Director of Scouting for 24-7 Sports.
We just talked Gators.
Let's keep it in the SEC.
Let's talk dogs, man.
And it was hard to watch that Georgia-Oklahoma game
and watch John Mateer do his thing,
which, unfortunately for Oklahoma,
this thing is not real good.
But the beneficiary of some of those, and they also created quite a few of their own plays,
was Georgia's linebacker room, who just had an absolute field day against the Sooners.
I knew you wanted to highlight some of these guys.
And we've been talking about these guys for a long time, man.
They were on in a special group a couple years back, and it's just hit parade, hit parade, hit parade.
Bud, you suggested before we started this season of episodes, like, hey, developmental factory.
Who's a school that just gets it done at a position time and time again?
And it took me a while to kind of identify one.
But as I was watching Georgia against Oklahoma, I mean, it's the two linebackers, Chris Cole and Raylan Wilson.
You know, it used to be, hey, Brian Hartline is the best wide receiver, recruiter, and developer when he was at Ohio State.
He got all the love.
I don't think Glenn Schumann at Georgia gets that same type of love.
And Bud, Georgia.
We just had linebackers go day one or day two of the NFL draft in the past two NFL drafts, okay?
And now they can have two more go day one and day two in Chris Cole and Raylan Wilson.
So if you look at those four linebackers, right, it would be Jalen Walker, C.J. Allen, Chris Cole, and Raylan Wilson.
And, yes, they were all ranked high.
But what made these guys different?
You know, what ties them all together?
I was kind of talking with someone at Georgia about this morning.
I mean, obviously, they're all special athletes.
I mean, all four of them ran track in high school.
All four of them got extensive snaps on offense in high school.
All four of them tested exceptionally well.
So we're talking about guys that are sub 4'5 in the short shuttle, you know, over 9'7 in the broad jump, under 7'5 in the L's rail.
So those are all, like, metrics you want to see.
And I asked, I'm like, what makes these guys just elevate the defense and play at this different level?
And I said, I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
What I was told is Glenn Schumann really digs into these individuals, and he finds out if they're smart and if they can read and react.
And most importantly, are they coachable?
And I think that's certainly the case with all the examples we've just flashed on the screen there.
I mean, I want to highlight Chris Cole, you know, former five-star for us.
You see him now in all these NFL mock drafts.
You know, the NFL scouting media was going crazy about his game over the weekend.
Obviously, he had the long fumble recovery for a touchdown.
I've always loved this guy.
But, like, he is one of my favorite players to watch in all of college football.
But I'll admit, when he was coming out of high school, I had some questions about his ability to stack blocks and get ball carriers on the ground.
And he was a freak show from an athletic standpoint.
He had all the length in the world.
And you look up, and three years later, I mean, this guy can take on blocks.
This guy can get larger ball carriers on the ground.
I think that's all a credit to Glenn Schumann and the rest of that defensive staff for squeezing the most out of this individual
and figuring out, okay, as a high school junior and senior, what is the ceiling when it comes to his processing powers?
And then the other thing, getting him on campus and getting him ready to go.
So, Glenn Schumann and me not talked about enough when it comes to developing this linebacker position.
That guy's a beast.
And, like, look, part of it, you know, you think about,
when these guys signed, right?
Like, 23 class, Georgia's coming off winning that national title in 22 when they killed TCU.
They had won, you know, the prior year before.
They go back-to-back.
Like, just, they were kind of just picking, right?
Like, it wasn't like, hey, like, no, granted, you have to do a great job recruiting them.
And they do a great job of, like, as you mentioned, all the other factors, too.
But, like, everybody they're bringing in is going to pass all the athletic stuff, right?
And so then it's like, hey, how do we kind of sort through, you know,
like, the final 5% that really makes a special prospect?
I mean, I remember talking to Raylan.
Like, I was trying to, like, pull it up here as we were talking.
I remember texting Barton about Raylan.
I think when he was a sophomore, you know, back when Barton was with 24-7 before he was the GM at Vandy.
It's like, hey, this Raylan Wilson kid, like, he's playing receiver.
His dad played for the Saints and the Dolphins.
His uncle was apparently a baller for the Houston Oilers.
And he's got an older brother who. We thought it was pretty good.
He ended up going to Buffalo, I think, or some Mac school.
And then I think it was Buffalo because he definitely ended up at Kansas for a year as a starter.
Like, okay, the genetics on this guy, the family, it's a good sign typically when a lot of guys in your family play in the NFL, you know?
And Wilson, I'm just glad to see him come to his own, like, really balling.
Like, Cole is a freak.
And, like, that pair is unbelievable, man.
Like, they just race.
Like, not that Georgia's defense makes many mistakes, but, like, man, they just erase a lot of stuff of just, like, little small mistakes.
It's crazy.
I was also. I wish we had this, like, information more readily available.
But I was going through the GPAs of all these guys coming out, and, like. Yeah.
A majority of them were 3-9 plus.
And you wouldn't think, okay, linebacker position where you got to kind of read and react to what's going on in front of you.
Yeah, I need to be smart in the classroom.
And that was another tying thread with these four linebackers.
So, you're right, bud.
I mean, Georgia can essentially draft at that position, but you still got to get the right ones.
And then you still got to fine-tune those right ones.
And if we look at what Brian Hartline and his run at Ohio State, it was a lot of that with the wide receiver position.
So, to me, I don't know.
Just Glenn Schumann, what he's been able to do with that linebacker room.
And, oh, guess what?
You know, after Chris Cole and Raylan Wilson go off to the NFL, they got more former five-stars ready to go right behind them.
Like, they are not going to. They are not going to. They are not going to miss a beat with that unit.
So, just kudos to that staff.
And I know it's the rich getting richer there.
But I think Glenn Schumann deserves a shout-out for how he has assembled his room
and how he has gotten them ready to go to essentially take over league games and win league games.
Yeah.
And you look at Schumann and what he's done.
Like, their hit rate, even relative to the star rating they're bringing in,
is, like, noticeably insignificant.
They're significantly higher, right?
Like, you sign a five-star, you know, he's got X percent to go pro.
They're higher, right?
You sign a four-star linebacker, Ivins, they're out hitting that four-star projection pretty consistently.
It's not, like, to the point where you make all Georgia's four-stars, five-stars, just blindly,
which would be lazy and not good scouting anyway.
But, like, not quite to that extent, but it's still. People do miss on four-stars, right?
Small sample size theater and one or two injuries or whatever can hurt you.
But, man.
They just hit.
And I agree.
Like, Schumann deserves a ton of credit for that.
That was a cool segment.
I like that.
I'm excited to see Williams and Walker, too, as you mentioned.
Like, that's going to be fun, man.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I also want to see them play somebody, like, not because I have doubts in them,
but, man, that Bama offense looks really good.
Like, in two weeks, that's going to be fun in Tuscaloosa.
Yeah.
I'm just going to point out another player here.
And it's kind of one of the ones where if you know, you know.
In front of the. One of those linebackers on third down, they got Valdon Sone,
former five-star defensive lineman.
They kind of use him in those exotic packages out of Sweden.
And his snap count keeps going up and up and up.
I called him the Swedish Jalen Carter and did not think he would be,
I don't know, get his feet this wet.
But talking with some people there inside the buildings,
they think very, very high ceiling for him.
And he's getting pressure.
So, yeah, that Alabama game will be. Certainly one to watch Big 52 in the middle.
I was excited about their offense, too, this weekend.
I know people had some complaints about it.
I'm like, it's Oklahoma.
Nobody's going to look pretty for 10 drives because it's Oklahoma.
Like, Venables is going to have something ready for you.
They still have a really, really good. I know they don't really play offense in Norman right now,
but, like, they're going to have something ready for you on defense.
Like, they're going to get you sometimes.
And Georgia really understands its personnel.
And they're like, okay, cool.
Like, we're not going to take a ton of risk.
We're going to do some rollouts.
We're going to do some screens.
We're going to run the ball a little bit.
And you're not going to score 17 on us in Athens.
So, here we go.
I don't know.
I think Georgia looks really, really good.
The name on offense for me that we saw flashed, Talon Taylor,
former top 24-7 wide receiver.
Everything I thought he would be in terms of, okay,
just how he creates separation at the stem, the gear shifts,
very, very impressive for him.
And he was a kid as a senior.
I mean, as good of a senior season as anyone in America.
He had, like, 84 catches.
1,600 yards, 24 touchdowns.
He's a competitor.
No doubt.
All right.
Last segment after this, we'll get you out of here.

the cover of the recruiting episode this is andrew ivans
andrew ivans man florida goes to missouri this weekend and like what five six point spread not a
not a gimme missouri is a okay decent team you know playing at home coming off a difficult loss
on the road to camario taylor who i know we've talked about a couple times on this very show
you know florida comes in rolling but missouri did show some things against mississippi state
and everybody on twitter was like oh the secret to shutting down mississippi state's offense is
just play cover two and and have your front end and you're not going to be able to play cover two
get home like yeah that's kind of the secret to running or to ruining any offense by the way guys
like like that that that's a that's a good formula going back about 100 years you can just play
coverage and have your front get home but one of the guys really getting home for missouri that
allowed them to give mississippi state some trouble and credit camario for operating a
dirty pocket and just you know doing enough to win that thing is a guy named dayton hopkins
defensive end for missouri what do you remember about dayton well bud i think the idea here
for this segment has been to introduce players before uh the general public knows about him and
this is a guy that's going to be in all the 20 28 you know mock drafts that come out early uh he is
he's awesome and if you look up the power for pressure leaders this season that's per pff
he is number one uh he's got 20 pressures eight sacks according to them through the first month
of the season right behind him is colin simmons 19 pressures
nine sacks uh prince will umi on me ellen right behind him 19 and 7 and um but you know a common
tying thread between all of those guys is they had these explosive metrics in in high school and
dayton hopkins was a missouri 3a state champion in the javelin and he was a guy that played on
both sides of the ball he was a big riser for us uh in his during his senior season hudson
standish on our scouting team just absolutely loved this kid and uh yeah he is a a havoc
creator up front it was a huge win for missouri a guy they they kind of just plucked right out
not out of their backyard but uh in that regional recruiting didn't allow others to get involved so
certainly when you're watching this game on saturday he's a name to know he's got nfl size
uh he's going to test off the charts at some point down the line and
you know florida's got a a similar player uh jayden woods on the other side of the ball
their edge rusher that's a kid out of kansas so when we look back at the class of of 2025
two of the top edge defenders were from right there in middle america and okay i just said
dayton hopkins a javelin state champ jayden woods state champ in the discus in the shot put so
if you want your kid to be a premium pass rusher get them out to the track and field events because
that seems to be translating here with this group in 2025 ivan's uh just just some some supporting
stats here for you from uh from stats bomb like a 45 pass rush win rate that's that's pretty absurd
there uh and you mentioned you know from kansas uh he killed kansas like he played 22 snaps and had
six havoc plays which is just like either you know run stop for one uh zero or or loss uh you know
pressure uh batted pass uh you know forced fumble that that kind of stuff that he's having a monster
season i want to see him play even more snaps man honestly like just i like he's earning more and
more playing time and earning is is the word there because like when they put him in he is killing it
for them yeah and you know i guess we we could eventually at some point do a developmental lab
for missouri it feels like every year they just got one or two pass rushers uh that are that are
ready to go and hey this year and i think next year it's it's going to be dayton hopkins all right
uh player comparison scores on him uh xavier lewis for north carolina okay colin simmons
elijah kinsler the kid that just destroys everybody at memphis and then uh weathersby
for uh for tennessee that that is not a bad grouping right there i like that i think i can
just give another nugget that i don't think discussed on on a national level hey that that
vandy at georgia game
had that one circled for a while and that is because jared curtis going to start against the
team that he was committed to for a long time so i just think there's some other you know storyline
to keep an eye on there because uh i don't not think he's gonna get uh be received well in in
athens yeah that that could be a tough one for for the commodores um you know he he's had like
he's played i think pretty well relative to a true freshman you know like we we we saw
obviously phase on brandon has true freshman moments this weekend um texas didn't blitz them
a lot like they they let their front four get home and they made the uh made the coverage windows a
little little murky for him and you know kind of struggled despite having a i think he was like
3.4 seconds to throw average time which is like an eternity against the texas defense but um you
know i think curtis has shown some good things i'm not sure how many good things like on the
scoreboard he's gonna be able to show against georgia but like we'll see if he's got some
good moments i i think uh you know like are both sides happy with the result there i guess maybe
like georgia's having a pretty good season i'm sure long term they'd still like him but they're
uh they may have a little something for him yeah and it's gonna be fun to see as the season
progresses you know where these true freshman quarterbacks are at right so you brought up
bazen jared curtis tate reynolds at at clemson you know does someone else kind of get thrown
into into the fire soon so uh yeah that that'll be something to do
to keep an eye on big test for reynolds we we just did big game breakdown a little while ago
on cover three and uh yeah the the passes that are more than five yards down the field
still a work in progress i would say really good at the stuff behind the line of scrimmage
so far but uh when the ball's got to travel in the air so his average air yards per completion
what do you think it is i would uh under five yeah three point three point four so
miami's got a couple games of film on him now i'm curious to see they're they're getting uh
shoot uh the corner they got from wisconsin um xavier lucas lucas yeah getting him back it looks
like this weekend so uh nice little battle there up in clemson we'll see how the hurricanes do and
we got anything else this week let me see that was a good show man yeah i know bud and and i was
encouraged you know encourage everyone hey the recruiting stuff is is picking up i think tom
had really good
uh update on come on spell five star running back you know committed to georgia was in athens over
the weekend usc has been trying to make a move behind the scenes so uh it seems as if programs
you know now that we've got the senior contacts they are they're looking to make moves and you
know cal has been the the victim here of uh week four week five there'll be others there'll be
others as uh some of these teams that
are putting it together on the field look to parlay that into big flips on the recruiting
front but you got to get at least a couple wins for belief when you have those nice summer classes
if you're an upstart program like you don't got to win them all you don't have to you know win
eight nine ten but you got to have it's kind of important to have like that win where you flash
and you show you can show the kid hey this is why we need you we can do this now a little bit we
need you like to help us do this all the time you know so maybe cal will get one maybe some of these
programs we'll get one if not uh i think we'll see how it goes but i think it's going to be a good
thing boy's going to eat so i'll see you next week man appreciate you bud
