A flurry of recruiting moves highlights key developments across the national scene. Eastern Royal flips to Florida, aligning with the team’s offensive philosophy and personal connections, while Kingston Allen emerges as a top-tier running back with elite speed and performance. Raymond Hudson returns to the market as a defensive end with SEC appeal, and Preskin Glasgow shows strong development potential as a cornerback with multiple top schools interested. Charles Davis re-commits to Cal, illustrating the growing influence of agent leverage and offensive changes in player decisions. Kentucky's class is now considered one of the most promising in the SEC, with standout recruits like Jake Narot, Tyler Fryman, and Sean Fox, along with the rising five-star Keenan Hall, signaling a major recruiting surge. Meanwhile, Texas A&M struggles with quarterback depth but has several promising candidates, including Brady Hart and Donald Taborin, amid broader trends of increased high school quarterback recruitment and transfer portal activity. The data shows a shift toward multiple quarterback commitments, especially in power programs, reflecting a growing need for depth and rotational options. These developments underscore a dynamic, competitive recruiting landscape where athlete development, personal connections, and offensive philosophy increasingly shape decisions.
- What's going on y'all, welcome back to the recovery podcast. This is the recruiting episode at the Andrew Reibens National Director of Scouting for 24/7 Sports. I like it, got the glasses on today. - Heavy eyes, bud, heavy eyes. A lot of tape grinding. That's always the case when, you know, we do these rankings updates. It's like you just, you ever watch that show Top Chef when they're like knives that hands up? Like, yeah, it's kind of like a quick fire. Just trying to figure out when to stop and like just, all right, gotta get something out there to the judges. So, yeah, heavy eyes today. - Nice man. All right, well, let's get into it. So, we actually have a lot of action and news on the recruiting front. I'll run down a couple of these dealers' choice. You can decide which one I want to go with first. But actually, I'll decide the first one, man. East and Royal makes a big flip to the Ford Gators from Texas, number two receiver in the country, 14 overall. Obviously, they have been knowing him for quite a while. What do we got here? It's kind of a tough weekend for him to make a commitment to offense considering what happened, but Ford and Texas over the weekend, we won't talk about my nose, of course. But ultimately, he does end up flipping to the Gators. What are Ford fans getting here? Why should they be so excited? - One of the top path catchers in the country, the fastest man in Louisiana history, right? Eastern Royal gets it done on the track, gets it done on. The football field, but it's kind of funny. Like when this all broke on Sunday, I was laughing. You always see these recruit reacts. Sometimes they're after like bad losses. And you're like, what is this kid going to say? Well, Eastern Royal decided, hey, I'm done with Texas. I'm committing to Florida. And but I love to fit, right? With Buster Faulkner, what they want to do. I mean, this is a guy that can certainly stress coverage vertically down the field with that acceleration. But he could also turn short passes into Chuck plays with his burst, his balance and his vision. Now, Eastern Royal is under six feet, right? So he's like five, eleven and a half. But we had a mountain organ at the opening finals back in June when he stepped on the scale. He was 214 pounds, right? So he is a big, thick individual, just an offensive weapon. And it's a guy you can use on screens, swing passes, jet sweeps, return game, all of that stuff. And to me, you know, what we saw from Buster Faulkner at Georgia Tech and then those first four games at Florida, like this guy fits what they want to do. He can get horizontal, you can get him in space, you can use them in the pre snap motion. And I think he's a potential weapon at the game's highest levels. And for Florida, everyone's wondering, all right, what's going on with the offense? If you ask me, I think the big thing that they're missing, and it's pretty obvious. But Vernell Brown the third, right? And there's some similarities here in terms of what Eastern Royals able to do. I also think it's notable like Florida goes into Louisiana. And if you read Mike Roach on 24/7 sports, right when this broke, he had a detailed report on why Eastern Royals is headed to Florida, not Texas or not even LSU. That's because he had a relationship with Someral, dating back to Someral's time at Tulane, right? I mean, he goes to school there in New Orleans, obviously, Tulane's there. So huge win for Florida. And now he's got two five stars in the recruiting class, Maxwell Hiller, the offense alignment, who I think's the guy that's going to push for minutes, year one. And I think the same thing with Eastern Royals. Absolutely. And so I mean, I think like the fit of the Faulkner offense there, like he built a getting ball in space, you know, for sure is pretty attractive. All right, let's go to the Buckeyes. We have a big game this weekend against Indiana. And they're getting a visit from a kid named Kingston Allen, who has not been on the radar of many. Yeah, I'm so excited to talk about this kid. I have a seven running back for us. Number 150 overall in the country. He's what I call a Yeti, right? So like, having seen him, that's again, because he lives in Wisconsin, not a lot of recruiting camps there, not a lot of seven on seven actions. We've never actually had a chance to see him in person. But this guy is having as good of a senior season as anyone in America through eight games, 180 carries, 2,288 yards. So that's 12.7 yards per carry and 43 touchdowns. But that comes after a junior season where he carried the ball three hundred and 56 times for 3,400 yards and 57 touchdowns. So he's gone for over 250 yards and 13 of his last 21 games. And all right, you pull up the tape, right? You're trying to see, you know, is this look like Derek Henry? I mean, it kind of almost does. I frequently Kingston Allen isn't touched for the first five yards. Then when defenders get to him, I mean, he's just kind of running right through them and find in his way into the end zone. It's a really funky offense there at Notre Dame Academy, right? In Green Bay, a lot of 23 personnel. So two tight ends, three running backs. So kind of like in this jumbo pistol. I was like, trying to figure out what it's called. I think it's actually the jumbo heavy pistol diamond. That's what a, that's what chat GPT came back for me on that. Just downhill power. And, you know, Ohio State is looking for a running back. Wisconsin has this guy in the class. And, you know, the question I always get, I'm sure you get it, is how do you judge competition around the country, right? Because sometimes these guys aren't playing in a Florida, aren't playing in a Texas, aren't playing in a Georgia, where you know the competition is good. And, you know, kind of go through some research. The first thing that came to mind. Melvin Gordon also came out of the state of Wisconsin, right? Former first round pick, former MVP in the big 10 back in 2014. And you start kind of putting the tape side by side. You start taking the data that you have on these two individuals. A lot of similarities. Kingston Allen, as a 10th grader, you went 10, 9, 5 and 100 meter dash in 21, 9 in the long jump. Melvin Gordon, 10, 9, 5 and 100 meter dash, 21, 5, 7, 5 in the long jump. So these guys are a lot, a lot of similarities. And, you know, can Wisconsin hold on? Hey, Luke Fickle kind of turned some things around there. You would think they got a pretty competitive offer for an in-state prospect, but you got to keep an eye on Ohio State. I missed out on David Gabriel, Georgia's still chipping away at running backs. All right, so Raymond Hudson gets a crystal ball to Texas defensive end, previously committed to Clemson. What should Texas fans know? 'Cause I love this kid, pulled up my scouting notes. I'm like, love this kid. Actually, I love the idea of him. And he is a compact speed rusher. You see it right there on the screen. He's listed at six foot two. He's probably closer to six feet. But this guy can roll. And he's got a decorated track and field background. So, Norfolk State Marshall, when he was a ninth grader, actually wanted him to run track. So you're thinking about this edge player guy coming around the corner. They wanted him to run track. Now, obviously he's gotten much bigger. I think it's ridiculous. His bend, his tempo, his pursuit angles. The effort he gives there. I think he's also pretty alert as a run defender. Right there in Richmond. My question was, do you try to maybe play him off the ball? Potentially as like an off ball linebacker. Or do you roll him up on the edge? If you watch Texas, you're kind of seeing more and more of that. Now, I'm not saying this kid's calling Simmons. But I'm excited that he's back on the market. And the SEC's coming calling because that's where I think he belongs. There's a guy that can get after the quarterback. Well, you see that dip there around the offensive tackle. So Texas, one of the good programs. I think when it comes to the senior season evaluations, Raymond Hudson, certainly a name to know because I think at minimum, he can be a DPR situationally in the SEC. All right. So next, we're going to go to a kid in pressing Glasgow, nice cornerback prospect here. He's locked in commitment date, looking like two teams that we just saw play on Saturday night, Georgia Alabama, and then Tennessee, also pretty heavily involved here. Why should we be excited about him? He is a tall developmental corner that is a late bloomer, and, but I can't tell you how many college contacts I've spoken with over the past few weeks and everyone's like, hey, do you got any corners? Do you got any corners? And what do they want? They all want guys that are that are tall and long and can run and can locate the football of Glasgow, they're at the Grayson High School outside of Atlanta, obviously a talented program. But can I really just like nerd out right now? Yeah. Okay. Dude, if you're watching a recruiting show for an hour, you want the nerd. I might need my own like sicko here, but you got the glasses for today. Let's go. Hear me out. Hear me out. So Glasgow was previously committed to Yukon and why is that notable? Who's now at Yukon? And Candal, the head coach, comes over from Toledo. But at the beginning of the NFL season, Toledo had four DBs on active NFL rosters, four DBs. I think two of them are drafted, two of them are undrafted free agents, all right? So Candal moves his operation to Yukon, and this is their first floor recruiting cycle. And I think Yukon's going to lose all three of their top ranked defensive back commits to power for programs. They got two other guys, like one visit in North Carolina, the other one's got Northwest around there. So I don't know. I didn't know Jason Candal was like the DB whisperer. I don't know who it is on his staff, but man, if you're in a room.
recruiting department, and you see that Yukon offer go out to a DB, give him a look. But back to Preskin with Glasgow, a guy that's got the tools and it's starting to come together. And I think you want to see that between the junior and the senior seasons, the evolution, you're starting to think faster, you're more confident in your capabilities. That's the case with Preskin Glasgow, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee. Those are the three schools. Georgia just flipped the corner back from Auburn and Nissier Johnson. They too, also got, may flip the kid from the junior college ranks. We talked about a few weeks ago. I would keep an eye on Alabama here, we mentioned it last week's episode, Alabama's smaller class. But hey, they're looking for guys with the developmental upside with the arrows pointing up. That is certainly Preskin Glasgow. All right. And finally, probably the recruit we've actually talked about the most so far on this show, just because he's had a lot of stuff going on because we'd like his upside a lot. Charles Davis, number 13 wide receiver number 100 overall. He's back in the boat with Cal now. Is that like, hey, they made it off into coordinator change and our scoring points, even without JKS and Eric, because they're running a different offense that God is that it, or do we know why he jumped back in? That's a pretty big keep for Cal. Yeah. And I feel silly for putting my hand up a few weeks ago. I mean, hey, Charles Davis, this is, this is the name to know as we, as we approach signing day. But credit to Cal for getting him back involved because I do believe whatever you've seen from Ian Strong with the Golden Bears, like supercharged version here in, in Charles Davis. So Blair and Gulo at 24/7 sports was all over this one. I mean, this is a guy where you think about him going into the ACC, like he is going to have a chance to make an impact year one. I just think it's a notable kind of close the story here. And I also think the Charles Davis situation, but is what's really, an example of what's really going on right now with the representation, the agents in the space. There's a lot of leverage plays out there. And, you know, while we might not see everything playing out on our timelines, this is what's going on in the march up to signing day, you know, a lot of, hey, I can get you this over there. You guys want to up your offer a little bit. And I think that's the case here, maybe with Charles Davis. And probably a part one for Cal to up their offer on based on what he's shown so far. All right. Good, good opening segment. We'll take our first break here and we come back. I want to spotlight a team that we probably have never talked about before on the College Ball Recruiting episode. And that's Kentucky. Stay tuned. All right. Here we go. Let's talk a little Kentucky, man. And we pulled a nice upset over LSU over the weekend, by the way, claps to Will Stein. If you're in a high scoring game and you score a second and over time, guess what, you're probably going to have to run a two point play when it comes to second over time, right? So if you got one you really like, run it now and win the game. Stop playing for the tie, which is like a 50/50 shot at best. Nice job there. And I saw some pretty funny stuff on Twitter about the, the size of the things you could fit in the gap that Kentucky opened up on that QB draw for Kenny Menchee. But we want to talk about like the recruiting trail stuff, obviously did a nice job in the portal with Menchee, you know, getting some guys in the portal off of the rosters. But I've been there doing some things in high school recruiting as well, man, top 25 class right now. A couple headliners who, one kid I really like to, you have on sheep, but go who are you really high on here? But I mean, I think what's unique about my position is you, you kind of have a, a feel of, of the board, right now, you know, around the country and, and the caliber of athletes. And I remember being, I think it was initially an Indianapolis, and then again, out in Oregon at the opening finals. And I'm like, man, Kentucky's kind of got a caliber of athlete that they haven't got before. I'm interested. I had me excited about Will Stein, and you mentioned it right. They take down LSU in over time. A lot of transfers involved there is a Lancerd, what they've done on that offensive line. Kenny Menchee, coming from Notre Dame, Cedric Baxter, the former five star running back. He was in there. And then what they're doing on the recruiting front is, is why I think if you're a fan of the SEC, it's if you're Kentucky's on the schedule, you should be a little bit concerned because I love this recruiting class for them, and you see up here on the screen. I mean, that's, that's all the top ranked prospects in, in, in the bluegrass state, and not all of them got the UK logo next to them. But man, one of my favorite quarterbacks in the class, Jake Narot, who's an elite 11 finalist. They get him in the fold. Kentucky beats out Iowa, where his sister's a rower, his dad played football in Iowa. That was, that was a huge win at the time. And this is a kid that is going to be a two-year starter, right? He didn't start as a freshman or sophomore in high school. It was really his junior season, which put him on the map. So you think about quarterback recruiting and how accelerated it is, everyone's racing for these commitments. Jake Narot would be the prime example of why you can be a little more patient because I think right now, you know, he's a top five quarterback in the class and a lot of people already had their arm on board. I love this kid. Hudson's status on our scouting team. His player comp for Jake Narot is Drew Mestemaker there at Oklahoma State. Another late bloomer, there's some similarities, big, big frame. He can make all of the throes leader as well. I think the way he is wired between his years, huge win for Kentucky. But that's really just kind of the start in this recruiting class, Tyler Fryman, in state wide receiver. Now, but it's interesting, the state of Kentucky, they got two really good wide receivers this recruiting cycle. The one is Jaheib Brown, who's currently committed to Louisville and then Tyler Fryman, who was a Louisville baseball commit that actually flipped over to Kentucky. This kid reminds me of Wyatt Young and I'm not trying to compare Oklahoma State and Kentucky here. But slot receiver guy that can be a high volume target. He's a tough individual, gets done on both sides of the ball, short area, quickness. I think that translates from the diamond. This is a kid that has ran the bases multiple times that that shows up on tape. So I think he's another headliner and then the one kid, recruiting crush, I've had one Sean Fox. I'm glad he had him on here. Yeah. This, when you said let's talk to Kentucky today, I opened up the sheet and I was like, all right, cool. That's the guy I wanted to talk about in this class, for sure. Wow, some schools are trying to get in on Sean Fox, right? So Kentucky's going to have to play a little defense here. But I think if you're five and one, where does that really help? Well, it helps the people that are in the club section, the ones that are opening up the checkbook. It makes it a little bit easier to negotiate to keep these kids in part of the recruiting class. Yeah, Sean Fox, he's the tall drink of water. And we had him in the Navy All-American Bowl last year, stand up, you know, linebacker. That's what he was. We played him as an off-ball linebacker. He's playing more on the edge here. And man, certainly if you're going to miss, miss big, I don't think you're going to miss on Sean Fox, but at least he's a hulking individual. Kind of reminds me of like the trajectory for Greg Russo on the Buffalo Bills, right? Great game last night, by the way. He was on the Miami Hurricanes. He went from safety to linebacker to line of scrimmage. And I think there were some similarities there with Sean Fox. This is another just, I think savvy evaluation, a kid out of the Indianapolis. So it's been fun to see Will Stein and his footprint. They still got this little Midwest focus. But they're going out and getting guys where, hey, Georgia was in on Sean Fox at one point. But no, he's, he's had it too Kentucky. So I think they're doing an excellent job on the recruiting front. And, but you always know what's good when you scroll down to the bottom of a commit list, you know, all right, who's this individual? Well, for Kentucky to Miguel Wilson, a, a nickel corner at Alabama, like to me, really, really good football player. So if you're telling me I had to go 18 guys down, and that's the individual, that is the sign of a good recruiting class in my eyes. Dude, no doubt. And like Fox is one of those kids. I think you can dream on him putting on the mass we expect them to put on and not having to put your hand in the dirt, you know, like Grant. There's certainly possibility that he ends up like, you know, 2.75, 2.80, and he's just an absolute monster as a three down guy hand in the dirt. But I mean, if he, if he's only 250, I think it could be like a really good, like stand up to 50 as well, you know, like a, oh, shoot, all right, USC in the Patriots, William McGinnist. Remember him? Yeah. Like the way this guy moves is, I looked it up, it's like, man, I hope 24/7 is the highest rating on this kid and they are about like 100 spots, so he's going to, he's going to keep crawling up. And I think with like Sean Fox, and you got to train your eyes for this. But when you watch like an NFL game, and I'm not talking like the actual snap, but how guys like walk on the field, like how their bodies are constructed, you can take Sean Fox and you can put him on an NFL field right now, and he's not going to look out of place. I don't know how to put that into words, but just like kind of the movement patterns, how, you know, just how he's built, it's, it's a little bit different than a guy like, hey, Raymond Hudson, we just talked about, you know, 10 minutes ago. Dude, Tony, I'm googling her. What size of William McGinnist?
Freshman year because at the Patriots a list of it six five two seventy Six six two forty in USC's program as a freshman. So yeah, okay We love our player comms, but maybe that's not perfect, but that's probably aging me a lot I'm old, so but dude that that's a fun one. I'm curious see like you know They also added Keenan Hall of 2028, you know five star, you know type defensive lineman That's that's the other thing too, right? So 2028 rankings came out Wednesday for for 24/7 sports Keenan Hall up to number two He's a five star prospect, so he's in state, but in every you know CFP contender Every power broker in the space is in on Keenan Hall and Josh Edwards who runs our Kentucky site After the weekend and Keenan Hall, you know was in the stands there in Lexington He actually put a crystal ball pick in for Kentucky to land Keenan Hall now I think there's a ways to go in that recruitment, but hey, Kentucky probably doesn't have that logo next to the the star rankings and and that crystal ball if it isn't for that five and one star So this is certainly a kid to know Keenan Hall two-way player extremely young He is wide and he has a chance to make an impact every single snap, so you know, Kentucky It's you can be a foundational kind of building block face of the program for us And I know it sounds so weird to say that about a point of attack player, but Keenan Hall is well known in the state of Kentucky and You know BBN certainly trying to get him in the boat Do you want to you want to hear a hilarious stat line for like NFL Hall of Famer? It was in your high school. All right, we'll let me get us As senior 107 tackles 18 sacks two fumble recoveries four passes defended four interceptions four block kicks also made all region in basketball That that multi sport even back then 1989. There we go. Awesome, man. Cool. All right. Let's can take our second break after that We're gonna talk a program that has got to get a little bit better quarterback. We'll kind of figure out if they do That's a text saying them so on the flip side All right back here on the recruiting episode of the recovery podcast. That's Andrew Ivan's national director of scouting for 24/7 sports and Oh, man, I told this story a couple weeks ago and cover three but my buddy send or his son is playing quarterback in 7U and flag over there in Winner Park and the coach asked him like hey, who's your favorite quarterback? And he said Marcel read and he goes pick somebody else Okay, he wanted to kind of show it which is kind of hatred or aid from the coach, but you know what well deserved based on the play of Marcel read 55% completions six touchdown six picks one touchdown in SEC play lowest QBR and SEC and a and M certainly has a quarterback problem I think the fact that they're still rolling with this Yep, how much can you parse this out? Is it QB? Is it coordinator certainly since the loss of Colin Klein? The offense has been a bit of a disaster against anybody with a pulse even that Arizona state game was kind of inflated with two defensive scores and other other drives being set up You know, in really favorable field position, but by the defense, which honestly I felt bad for A&M's defense this weekend Man, they put up like a pretty heroic effort for about 35 40 minutes until the damn You know just finally broke their as Missouri, you know ran all over them to close that game out But like they haven't gone to anybody else yet on this roster and you know breadie heart, you know sophomore You know they have Helmut Kasuga who's a freshman couple commitments like what do you make of this A&M quarterback situation? I think it's it's we're assembling a list of storylines to follow over the next few months It's got to be up there because When I look at that You know too deep or or three deep or or whatever you want to call it now I don't know if these guys if either of those guys are going to be ready to go in in 2027 and you know text the same as one and three in the SEC and They play the citadel this upcoming weekend. I think you got to get these guys reps and blood what I wanted to ask you is Are we going to get to the point where it's not I'm not you know not hanking But hey, we're not making the college football play up. We need to know what we have in the roster because the the the transfer portal is opening Soon, right and and we be we're already trying to figure out who we can go get so Yeah, you know you bring up Brady Hart. I think you got in the game against LSU through an interception I kind of wrote about him a few weeks ago in in the talent tracker You know, he's a he's a reclassified quarterback bud and you know a guy that was in in the sunshine state playing in a bit of an Air raid were offense there at Coco, which He threw it a lot and I remember he almost single-handedly beat St. Thomas Aquinas a few years ago. He's one where I thought another year in high school would have went a long way Helmand Kasuga out of the state of Utah He actually took down IMG Academy to start off his his junior season one of the few guys that actually beat IMG the national powerhouse That they are Interesting one to me like I think you need to think or or picture like a bear Bachmeier type of approach, so I don't know if that works for Texas A&M. I mean, it's working for for BYU, but what I mean by that guy you can use as a power runner Guy with maybe some some limitations to the arm But he can certainly elevate his play and he can get the ball to to play makers And he's a kid that played a ton in high school So those are the two on the roster and then you look at what they have committed JC Johnson here in the in the class of 2027 you know guy that we were high on super early He's kind of just the pack has caught him there's other quarterbacks out there that I think have shown more recently And I think our guys that only have a higher ceiling but I have a higher floor to them So I don't know to me. He fit more of what the previous offensive staff was trying to do with Colin Klein I will say this though Donald Taborin in in the class of of Quarterback number three for us. He's had a cast tech in Detroit This is a kid that has done nothing but win games I think he's up to 26 and one as a starter there for one of Detroit's top programs I think he's one of the better passers In the class the only issue is but I mean He's a few years away, but I you know, I want to reiterate like out of all those quarterbacks we talked about Donald Taborin to me is the one that Aggie fans should be the most excited about because I think he's got the most talents in him and I think He's got a chance to to elevate that offense whatever it looks like in in 28 28 and beyond So yeah, I grew to you on jace. I think with him and like That's a guy that due to the injuries has not been getting reps and I think he really needs game reps So I'm not willing to punt on him long-term. So I do think there's potential there But I do worry about the detrimental nature of the reps lost even if the long term like if the injury is not a long-term detriment like is the effect of the reps loss like a factor in like delaying when he arrives if he arrives You know, I I like this 28 quarterback class quite a bit I like the Carter Zingelman kid a whole lot by the way out of Texas like I think he's just I've been watching all these guy I think he's a stud too, but obviously like a NM has their guys you mentioned I'm gonna throw you a stat out here 38 power for teams last year loss their QB How many do you think promoted internally Meaning in house Could they have transferred in or they're signed out of high school like a guy who was not like a guy like how many guys or how many teams Do you let me just reset this cuz we know I'm not of the 38 teams that lost their starting quarterback last year in the power 4 How many went after a new transfer to commence start and how many promoted from in house like a guy that was already on the roster? I would say a in house promotions a dozen twelve six That's kind of crazy, and I think it reflects the Unwillingness of coaches to embrace uncertainty, you know like they're much more willing to go out and be like okay Like maybe this guy is not a stud, but like we've seen in play, you know, it's almost risky from like a you know a career standpoint to go with somebody Internally now, no, certainly there's some options and like the guys like yeah like no doubt like obviously Bama Went with Keeling pretty good choice. They also had Matt You know who's not a terrible option to go as a backup But like with a and it's quarterback situation I'm not that worried because you know what they have money So I think that the solution here is you do bench more cell read, right? I want to see what Brady Hart has and you know as the number one high school recruiting class right now Of course you do, but I'm not sure our audience does. It's tech saying them. They're gonna want like some reasons to you know keep kids there a Good program a lot of money if if you know if Hart can play at all That's a nice little thing to sell and also I'm gonna tell you it's recruits look If Brady can play cool if not like
A&M's got to be on the very small list of programs that can go out there and spend $678.9 million on a quarterback. Like, there's not a whole lot of programs that can, but A&M, like, money has never been on their list of problems. But I think that's important because we touched on it a few weeks ago, just, hey, what is this transfer portal kind of quarterback market look like? I know you got some. We did. I know you got a lot of water. For Ethan Grunkmyer. Yeah, I did come up with a name for you, Markis Stokes at Memphis, you know, he could be one. The kid at South Dakota. Yeah, last, well, last Thursday, there was four group of six games. And, you know, I watched, I'm a group of six guy. I watched my group of six football. But I think out of the eight starting quarterbacks, six of them were transfer down, transfer is down from the power four level. Like, so there was four games going on, eight starting quarterbacks, six of them came from the power four ranks. Can you recall a time a quarterback went power four, group of six, power four, like, I couldn't come up with many. I mean, I'm sure there's a few out there. It's sort of analogous to the old, like, P4, Juco bounce back to P4 in some ways, right? Yeah. And so I, I don't know, I just, I think high school quarterback recruiting is going to make a comeback. Like, oh, you say that. That's funny. Uh, so six teams right now are listed at nine to one or better to win the nattie. Five of them signed the high priced high school quarterback, like, they went after to sign the blue chips. In fact, those teams are, what, Notre Dame, Bama, Georgia, Texas, and which one am I missing here? Oh, I'll stay. They're behind over the last four classes, those, those programs have signed 20 blue chip quarterbacks. Did they hit on all 20? No. But it's just kind of a numbers game. If you keep firing, you keep firing, you're probably going to hit on a guy who's going to be drafted pretty highly or at least be able to be a really good college player. Man, I think, and only one of those was like five star top five player, and that would have been Keel and Russell and Arch. And Arch. Yeah. But you look at Sayon, Stockton, Carr, you know, doing this from the hip. Yeah. All those guys, extremely intelligent, extremely intelligent individuals. Like high four guys, I'm curious to see if high school quarterback, like, makes it come back. It probably is more year to year, you know, like, just depending on, on, on the supply. I always think it's going to be really interesting to see, like, are these programs plucking guys off P four rosters based on practice field at all, you know, hey, like, maybe they picked the wrong one. Sometimes you got two on your roster who can really play, and we find that out. Like that's sort of an inefficiency, but again, that's a big leap of faith for you to be a P four. I'm like, yeah, we're going to take this guy who was a backup here, and he's going to be our starter, you know, maybe, maybe it's not high school quarterback recruiting makes this huge comeback. But maybe like the two quarterback classes, I think there are six teams now in the class of 2027 with two arms committed, you know, it used to be pre-internet, schools would get away with that all the time, right? Yeah, right. Yeah. Five quarterbacks, and the kids would have no idea because they don't get that newspaper. And certainly, I think a recent year's got more and more difficult, but now with the NFL occasion of these rosters, why can't you bring in two every year? I think it's about, now granted, it's always, you got to convince these guys to do it, as you mentioned. But I think if you can, you should, right? Like it's the most important position, and you can say, hey, you're not going to get a bargain on these guys. You won't long term, but you might get that the first year starter bargain where you're able to secure them at two and a half and not five or six, you know, potentially, just kind of depends. Well, the other thing, but how many backup quarterbacks are going to be playing in key spots this weekend? A lot of future. Yeah. Maybe Mississippi State, a couple of organs. UCLA. Yeah. Exactly. Like, kind of want to have a guy ready to go. Yeah. I do think like A&M though, just circle back, I just have confidence they're going to get that right. I still think Elco is a good coach. I like what they're doing and recruiting overall. I agree. If you could throw money at the problem and they can, and they don't really have to guess under trench for they can go out and get one of the very, very tops. Yeah. Should see receiver receiver group they got committed coming in is like right ready to go. They got an offensive lineman running backs, Kodi Armstrong, the tight end, starting to look like a freak show out there. So yeah. No, I think you're right. All right. Final break on the flip side. We'll hit a little stuff to watch this weekend. There's quite a bit. All right. Guys, welcome back to the recruiting episode of the company podcast. Peter Eibens rock on the glasses because he has been deep in the film study as 24/7 sports releases. The updated 2028 rankings coming out today as well. So Eibens, let's go to Provo this weekend, huge game for BYU, huge game for Notre Dame, big game for the big 12, big playoff implications for sure. And let's talk about a guy with a sick mustache. As Jonas Walton, who I just burst onto the scene, everybody wanted to know who's the running back for Notre Dame, Walton has kind of just taken this thing and run with it, man, quite literally. Let's throw it back. Obviously, we talked about what he's done this year. What did we like about him in high school? Well, but I brought him up because I remember a couple of months ago. You mentioned that Notre Dame doesn't have anyone that really scares you on offense. I've started to wonder and think that Jonas Walton's going to be the guy and this was a kid that finishes the number 11 running back for us in the class of 2026. And you know, the scouting report, I went back in my notes. I called them mighty, like he's small, but he packs a punch, makes his money as an inside runner, you know, vision, quickness power, finds hidden yardage and traffic, fights off contact, low pad level, always trying to like thrash himself forward and finishing runs. I thought that always showed up on the, on the Jonas Walton tape. Now, you know, I said not a ton of, of home runs on the highlight reel, that was not the case against Stanford. He had what, a 97 yard touchdown run, a 40 yard touchdown run, but he hits the hole with urgency. And what always stood out to us is he had this like four sport profile, like this is kid that through shot put, obviously did the sprints as well. He was in the weight room, just a guy that we always, always liked and he was the 24/7 sports truth. Restman of the week here. So, I think for Notre Dame, you know, they've been looking for answers at that running back position. I'm ready to see what it looks like on Saturday night against a BYU defense that I think is top 10 nationally in, in rushing defense. So, should be a lot of fun. So he's finally starting to play to the speed that he showed on track in high school. If you take back through the profile, 10, 6 and 100, you know, like that's pretty impressive. So I think him and then they're running back for Georgia this past weekend, like two young guys who I thought they wouldn't break. Yes. So we knew Phillips could run as far, like speed wise, but both these guys, man, like obviously there's not a lot of, not a lot of trash you got to pick through in the back field when you're playing, you know, Stanford and whatnot. But just doesn't seem to run himself into like, you know, missed opportunities. It doesn't seem to be the cause of, you know, zeros and ones. Sometimes he's home run hitting backs. It's kind of a binary, right? It's like zero, zero, 45, right? Like two, two, 55, like he, he doesn't seem to, to get caught in the wrong read and seems to run with some decent patience. Now, I think there's another test coming up like how will he handle trash in the back field? How will he handle a little more pressure BYU? He's going to throw a lot of different blitz packages at them, probably a lot of different run blitz. That's a tough place to play. Yeah, man, him emerging from the Irish is big time because now like the RPO stuff with car is a little bit scarier for offenses and, you know, man, like Notre Dame just keeps looking better and better. I think Walton is a big piece of that. I'm glad you brought up a peanut for Georgia and I'm going to, this is kind of what I'm theorizing on inside my mind. Georgia under center, right? And obviously they have the personnel to do it, right? You know, a lot of two tight insets, some three tight insets, they got big, big boys up front, one gas and open it up wide run lanes. But I think this is where the run, the rushing attacks are going at the game's highest level. So if you, if you watch the NFL, what the 49ers are trying to do under center stuff and they get these running backs that have elite elite elite acceleration. Now the White Phillips, he was like a 1024 kid, dad won some, some state championships or excuse me, gold medals on the track. I mean, this dude can absolutely roll. And I think this is, this is going to be a thing and it sounds simple. Just running backs with elite acceleration that can get forward in a hurry. We mentioned White Phillips, obviously talked about Jonah as Walton, Isaac Brown there at Louisville's another one. I mean, these guys that all they can do is, all they need to do one cut and go. So some I'm monitoring, but doing a lot of reading about what's going on in the NFL, you know, under center rate is up.
since 2017 and you know why do you want your running back behind you but well if they're next to you in the shotgun it's hard to threaten that other side but if they're directly behind you they can threaten both sides of the defense so just certain some some monitor and but man it was it was cool to see Georgia kind of lean on him down the stretch and I also thought Kirby's pre-game speech that got leaked was sicko stuff I mean if you're just gassing up your tight ends before the game like that's a point of attack program I mean this was not on the rundown but think about all the guys who are making plays for Georgia who are not draft eligible like Georgia who I expect goes out and gets a transfer QB I wouldn't say that's like a lock but I think it's a a probably a strong probability they're gonna get a discount on whoever they go after man like not like a you know 80% discount but they might get like a 20% discount just because of who you get to play behind like these guys who were blocking extremely well against Alabama are literally teenagers they're not even 20 yet you got a freshman receiver on the outside making big-time plays you got good backs to hand the ball to you got a lot of tight ends you got a lot of confidence in obviously we we we profile a couple of them last week including obviously you know the the stud coming in on the high school ranks I was watching that game like man not draft eligible not draft eligible not draft eligible I know I know I know they're they're gonna be very attractive for a top tier transfer quarterback in the offseason should they choose to do that yeah and I mean just seeing all that talent and on that on the field and just kind of how it played out and the wrinkles you know where where's where do they try to find the advantage I just thought it was cool to see them all right we're gonna go to white Phillips and he's gonna come screaming at you and and you guys are gonna try to tackle him and it's not gonna be fun yeah no no doubt about it and the vision man like just you knew we could run just like that he there's a couple of those runs where Bama plays it well and there's like a very small cut back on the backside and to have a young guy like that see it and hit it is is impressive like that and we were talking on main cover 3 show there's like are we are we sure he's not their best back obviously for Frazier's a stud and Bowling's can play like we sure because I don't know man like there's there's there's some fun stuff going on there at Georgia for sure cool I know you got a lot more stuff to get to that here we go well you know this cutback is pretty sick yeah yeah now granted great block from the right tackle they're downfield bury on one gas then yeah yes that was yeah he's in the nine lives club bud that's that's what we call a guy like one gas and he's gonna get nine chances because there are humans that do not walk like him on earth yeah yes sometimes doing the recruiting ranking is like hmm okay how many people on earth does get yeah does God make like that all right guess what that's that's pretty special cool buddy I know you got a lot more to get to today this has been fun as always you know good luck with the rankings release and I'm sure everybody will agree with each and every choice with absolute certainty even though these guys have like 14 more months before you can play a college ball game so appreciate you guys awesome and take care Saturday nothing hits like UFC on Paramount Floss let go bossy legend Alexander Volcanowski defends his world title against undefeated months are emlauer for the other way championship bigamon plus Björj Jörg and Rob DeBalus Vili set up their epic trilogy in the Phantom Way Championship we have waited months for finality in this rivalry two title fights one massive afternoon live from Abu Dhabi you have see 333 Saturday at two eastern free with your Paramount plus subscription
