Which I'm going to be reviewing in a couple of weeks time and I can't wait to tell you about that. So you've already heard my review of Far from the Madden crowd. And when I walked into the office one day, Dev was sitting there. He was like, have you seen the film? Have you seen Far from the Madden crowd? He's like, no, not yet. He's like, oh, Rihanna, it's amazing. I had no idea what I was sitting in there watching. I sat down, realised it's a period drama. My heart sank. I hope there were going to be zombies in it. Yeah, zombies in a period drama. Sure. Actually, no, there is going to be a film with zombies in. Pride and prejudice and zombies that's coming out next year. I'll take Dev to go and see that. Anyway, so he thought it was going to be rubbish. Sat down. Absolutely loved Far from the Madden crowd. And that meant that he was in a very good mood when he spoke to the gorgeous and very talented Kerry Mulligan. This is BBC Radio One with Dev as a guy in. And good day to you, Kerry Mulligan. Welcome to my humble studio. So I was trying to talk like how you doing your new film. Yeah, good day to you. I'm not really pulling off. I'm not pushing off. I would like to talk about Far from the Madden crowd, please. Great. Before this film, I only saw it, I think it was Tuesday I wasn't going to watch it. I'd never watched the beginning to end any kind of period drama. Really? Yeah. So obviously ahead of this interview, I wanted to see your new film. I wanted to know about your new projects and stuff. And they told me a little bit about it. And I was like, this doesn't sound like it's going to be my cup of tea at all. Yeah. And the first opening scenes, beautiful, dorset countryside. And I just don't know. I hope some welders or something show up in the next couple of minutes. Where's the army? Can I be 100% honest with you? Yeah. I loved it. I got completely lost in the sort of totally immersed in the dorset countryside and the simple life of farming and fancy hats and horses. Was it a lot of fun to film? Yeah, it was great. It was really fun. We were outside for a month, for the first month, we just couldn't go inside ever, which was amazing. And yeah, it was great. It was horses and sheep and running around and getting rained on. I was trying to figure out which of the scenes you were actually riding the horse and which would have been stunt doubles. Yeah. Go and break my heart. Well, anyone where you couldn't see my face. That wasn't me. No, I can't ride a horse. I got thrown off my horse actually really badly about two weeks into filmy so I was concussed for about six weeks. And there are any scenes you did whilst concussed? Most of the film. Yeah. There's open and theory or quality to it because I literally can't see straight. I thought she was just happy all the time. Yeah, but yeah, slightly happy, slightly days. Little bit concussed. Yeah. So we're set around 1870, right? And she's not your typical. I just want to get married. I just want to have kids. I just want to have a man look after me. She's very fiercely independent. Yeah. I mean, that's what's amazing is that Thomas Hardy wrote this character 150 years ago as a man, writing about a woman and he wrote this really modern, kind of almost feminist woman, so ahead of her time. Yeah, the story started. And the reason I liked it is the story starts with a girl turning down a proposal of marriage as opposed to sort of setting off to try and find a husband. That's where I was instantly hooked like, "Ah, so I was going to be a little typical romance. And this hunky man gives her a baby lamb." And she's like, "I'm not interested." Sold. Can we talk about the hunks, please? Yeah. Because you're building yourself quite a bit of reputation, can we? Is it written in your contract now? You will only work opposite really, really hot guys. Really, really hot guys. Yeah. It's been Ryan Goslin, Leonardo de Caprio, obviously, and now all three of the male leads in this film. Yeah. They're gorgeous. I know. Very easy on the eye. Yeah. It's a hunky, hunky fest on my CV at the moment. Is it a little bit distracting whilst fall men? Well, I'd starage tonight. Tom starage and I've known each other for about 11 years, so we were very happy to get to paddle around together. Mattias is unbelievably hunky and quite distracting. Michael Sheen, I've wanted to work with since I remember the first time I saw him or something when I was like 17 and being like, "What?" You know, he did this thing called dirty filthy love about someone with OCD and it was just, I mean, it was ridiculous. He was so incredible. So yeah, getting to work with all of them was amazing. I've read before and before seeing the film that you have a bit of a love, bit of a soft spot for musical theatre. Yeah. And you've caused sing in this film. Yeah. You can sing. You can sing. Definitely was you though, right? Yeah, yeah. That was Michael. Yeah, no, no, that was me. That was me. So, is there a chance that we'd see you in? I don't know, like a remake or sound and music. Oh gosh. What's there to make? It's a production of Annie. No, I mean, I did grow up wanting to be a musical theatre actress, but they can dance and they can really sing. And I can't do either of those things. So I don't know. I think if I took like two years to go to like and had singing lessons and got someone to choose me as a dance, I could maybe pull something off. What about an album? There's no album. Why can I do it have like a running gag about having a Christmas number one with let no man steal your time? I think someone might need to give it a bit of a remiss. Do you know what? That song because you both do these beautiful harmonies together. He's the harmonies. You're just saying the straight bit. Yeah. I reckon in like say after the storm has come out and people see it. Yeah. That's the one scene I reckon people are going to be talking about. And I think it could be Christmas number one. We make see. Leave it how it is. So that was Carrie Marligan. Tongue to Dev.
