12m 35s
This podcast transcript discusses the detrimental impact of social media influencers and short-form video content on youth. It reveals that Gen Z consumes massive amounts of such content, leading to countless disadvantages. Influencers often display a fake, perfect lifestyle online for business purposes, while in reality, many face mental health struggles, as exemplified by the suicide of travel influencer Lee MacKmann and the confession of YouTuber Kariminar that he prefers being his real self. This "show-off culture" makes viewers insecure, as influencers may edit photos or fabricate experiences. The theory of object self-awareness explains how posters constantly worry about others' opinions, losing their own judgment. Peer pressure drives teens to join platforms like Instagram to seem "cool," but this leads to addiction, reduced attention spans, and loneliness. Platforms exploit this by sending notifications and using data to keep users engaged. Personal anecdotes highlight how quitting such content improved happiness and concentration. Solutions include using phone focus modes to limit usage, deleting apps entirely, turning off notifications, and replacing scrolling with reading books or listening to educational podcasts. The podcast concludes that it's never too late to change, urging youth to break free from this toxic cycle.
Do you know that in a times of India article it was revealed that Gen. Z people watch up to 4.50 years in 3 hours, 4.50 years that means that even if a person watches these for like 6 hours a day this means that the person has watched 900 years and the disadvantage on youth is countless. That's the impact of this. I will be back. Hello and welcome everyone to our podcast and this is the second episode of the reaction of these series. Let's welcome our guest on show with Deepavaka. Hello everyone. Welcome back with you. Where the impact of these can be talked upon more. Yeah, that's right. But the ones which should be talked about should be the influences. They are the ones in the reals and social media and causing all the damage. Yeah, when actually 2 years ago even I used to believe that the life influences show about themselves is real. As a result what one feels is that they live a very better life than what he or she is living which of course is not the case. Can you tell us how. Let us divide it in a few parts. First let us discuss a real life of influences. Influences in the online world are totally different in their real life most of the times. It seems that they are living a very large lifestyle. However they aren't even worse than living even more of a horrible life. They are fighting a mental battle with themselves. How is it so? Because according to many they are just living what is known as a perfect and rich life. Well most of the influences are just showing it that way just for the business. Well if we are actually living such kind of lifestyle then it's fine but it's not mostly the case. And if I'm not wrong the ones who actually have such kind of lifestyle they don't show up much. Yep you are right and here comes one of the most important points to showing off their wealth which I guess we will discuss it in a minute. But then I will tell the story of a travel and one life influence Lee Mackmann. Even though she was showing super lifestyle but she was fighting with mental depression from inside. What's the reason she has put these other needs in a priority list and then her own. As a result she took her own life. And what to see from the outside is not what is actually there on the inside. As one right is said don't just look but it's covered. Influences face a tougher life than even a middle class engineer. We did dinner of any similar case. Well I remember not a case but an interview of famous Indian YouTuber Kariminar. He said that he doesn't want to be Kariminar but rather wants to be his own son that is Ajay Nagar. He shows that these influences are not happy doing their work. They are actually in a very tough scenario. Think about this. How would you feel if someone told you to pretend to be someone else and just tell you not to be yourself. Yeah and also there was one more in the influencer who was the Ajay. She said that it's so difficult to maintain a lavish life set. She's always anxious about having to maintain such a life set all times. Now let us talk about the show of culture. Well it's toxic. You are spot on. Actually as I said some influencers show a different life of their own screen while their real life is totally different. I read a story where an influencer was showing that they went to a very beautiful place. This of course made people insecure but then it was later revealed that the photo was just edited and the influencer didn't actually go there. There are countless stories regarding this. Yeah I even remember there was a story of a teen photoshopping himself with a private chat and more luxury stuff. Oh my god. Now also teenagers are also starting to do this. And also like they are making the video to have a completely different vision of reality. If an influencer is showing that they are leading a very superverized set. 99% of the time to make the user fit insecure about their own life. Be it a little or not. Then if an influencer faces this how will that person feel? Yeah and just think about it. What are they getting after showing such a superverized set. They will be getting money. They will be getting the praise of people. That's it. However that praise might harm many people within. Another thing that popped into my mind is people getting into the loop with some not-so-good songs. Yeah. There are some not-so-good songs in the internet. However these influencers are just making a popular and as a result the song gets popular and people start thinking that the meaning of the not-so-good song is actually the meaning of what's around them. Plus the impact on youth is more because as a teenager they will accept whatever will be provided to them. What the influencers are saying in the reels will be their world. They still don't have the ability to distinguish between good and bad. Yeah and as a result the academic will be this song. They will be constantly watching those days just to see what's the lavish lifestyle according to the internet looks like. But then when they will of course see what is totally different than what's outside and when they realize it I will get to say it's too late. Hmm. Also the problem of likes. Whenever a teenager is posting a reel maybe just to continue a trend. He or she will mainly think of the likes and comments the person will get. If he or she sees that the other person did the same video and got more likes and comments that person will continue thinking over that and that person will find flaws inside him or her. Yeah. And also the influencers or the people who post on his platforms also face another problem which is related to the theory of objects self-awareness. Can you talk more about it? Yeah. But wait. This is for like all the people who post not just the influencers. So well in this theory you are supposed to experience yourself both as a subject and even as an object. Let us take an example. You are currently reading a book. In this case you are enjoying the read the book. So you let us subject where you are in full control. But now if you are reading the book in front of you of your classmates and you are constantly thinking of like would my classmates like the book. Would they think I am a book woman. Except that. You are the object. As you are thinking about what the other thing is about you. Now we get can you please read this with social media? Yeah. Sure. The ones who post in social media can mostly be related with the object in the theory. As the one who is posting will only think about what the others are thinking. So if a person has posted a good read but then the likes are less they will actually think that the read is not good. So their own perception is changing as a result they now can't even decide their own liking for anything. And also like we can conclude with like all the problems regarding the influencers such as on the mental health showing off that we can conclude that this is a real life of influencers that their life is not so easy and people are thinking that they are living the best life possible. Yeah. But we need to talk about one more thing here. The pressure given if you don't use apps such as Instagram especially peer pressure. Exactly. I was watching a video where a first day a college student was sharing her addiction with reads. She said that initially in grade 10 she did not have her own phone. So she had to use a parents phone and of course she did not have much screen time. But later in 11th grade when she got her own phone she used to use YouTube shots initially. However, she felt the peer pressure as she was in on Instagram and people were telling her to use it. Hence she switched to Instagram just to look cool. And then most of the people just join Instagram just to look cool and be cooler and to make more friends. Yeah. I don't understand anything like it's your life. How can someone else decide it? And even worse someone is deciding to destroy your life. The teen's watching this video should realize that this coldness was most likely less for maximum five years. Then this coldness might turn to regret for the next 50. Also blame goes to the social media apps too. For example, a social media app has noticed that you haven't been online for a long period of time. They might send you push notification. Then this notification might be a journal but then most of the times it isn't. And as a result you feel tempted to check out your notification and once you check it out you're again into the same old world of schooling for hours. And social media platforms also steal our information from other sources too. That's why I couldn't. If you search up something on Google maybe for a phone, mostly you will get stuff related to phones once you open any social media platform. Hence being more relatable to you. This is also profitable for these platforms. And also these actors can escape from the river. The best example can be of a person feeling lonely. When one person is lonely they just open any social media apps and just start scrolling news. They feel emotionally attached for some period of time because they have something to watch. However, afterwards they will feel even more lonely as a person will realize that others are having a super life as shown in social media. And they are just living the same life. The same old life actually. Well, I have a person's story to share about me watching news. Can I proceed? Yeah sure. Well, I used to watch YouTube shots when I was 13. The main reason was just to feel entertaining and make more friends. How is this related to friends and watching more real-world films? Cooler and hence more friends. But then soon I realized that this is destroying my life because my attention span was decreasing. I was not listening to anyone. as big as you.
becoming more, I was becoming more overconfident. Luckily it was until late and realized my mistake. Hence I stopped watching shots. I'm telling you, I was the best decision and I mean it. I felt karma could concentrate for more time and felt even more happier than when I was scrolling shots. And people think it will be happier when you scroll shots. But then this absolutely wrong. Well, it's great that you changed. And still, many people, especially the youth, are sometimes to change. It's never too late until you choose to stand still. Which means that the moment you will stop trying, it becomes too late. But then if people do want to fix their life, then time is still on their side. Yeah, with that, let's discuss the solutions possible. How to overcome this addiction according to your video. First of all, there's an option called Focus More Nowadays in all phones. So use that. Limit your social media platforms to about like 30 minutes and maximum to 1 hour. When the limit crosses, the app will automatically close up. This is one of the best techniques for us. Well, I have a solution. Okay. This solution is a bit more simple in my opinion. If someone is too addicted, that they can go to the settings and change the focus more. Well, for them, just give it the app. Plane and simple. In fact, I would tell them that's the best solution. And if you would ask, what are the other entertaining options? Pray for some time, read books and one which are personally like listening to songs. And any other techniques? Well, this technique, I don't support it, but if you manage to use it a limit, then turn off the notifications of those apps. Before sleeping, instead of watching these, read books. Otherwise, listen to some interesting podcast, such as maybe of physics, chemistry, maths, history, geography, the soul, and subjects to just experience this injured essence of this world. That's right. Enough of bookish talks. No, how did you feel about this podcast? Yeah, it was awesome. I got to share a lot of my opinions and facts. How about you, I am? It's a superb. And the best thing is, we won't spread this podcast to short movies. This took a lot of users to overboard the path, path one and path two. The video links are in the description and the other sources from which our information was based on those links to our in the description.
