In this episode, I want to talk to the men and I also want to talk to the women who love men. You know, who live with them, who watch them and wonder why sometimes things seem off. They don't have the energy because something is off, measurably, biologically, even generationally and almost nobody in the mainstream medicine is telling us the truth about it and it is here. Here is what we know. Since the late 1980s, testosterone levels in men have been declining at approximately 1% per year, not because of aging. Controlled studies comparing men of the exact same age, a 40-year-old man today versus a 40-year-old man in 1987 show that the man today has dramatically lower testosterone. Not a little lower, significantly lower. A 2007 study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism from Massachusetts called the Massachusetts Male Aging Study found that a 65-year-old man in 2002 had testosterone levels roughly 15% lower than a 65-year-old man in 1987. Compound that across the full arc of the decline since the 1980s and we're looking at a 20-30 percent generational drop. Some researchers believe it's even higher. And again, I have all this research in the show notes. All sperm count has dropped more than 51%, not in one country. We're talking globally. A 2022 meta-analysis from researchers at Mount Sinai Hebrew University and the University of Copenhagen covering 57,000 men across 53 countries found that the rate of decline is actually accelerating. Let me make that concrete for you. Today, one in five young men have clinically low testosterone. That's one in five. This is a condition that was almost exclusively associated to elderly men. Now it's in our young men. It's a condition that exists in our teenagers. In the medical establishment, primary response has been to prescribe testosterone replacement therapy. Again, the medical system, not even remotely looking at the cause. But why don't you ask, why is this happening? Doesn't that make sense? I'm Darren O'Lean. Welcome to the Solo Super Life podcast. Today, we're pulling back to curtain on one of the greatest severely underreported public health crisis of our time. This is also systemic of endocrine disruption, PCOS, and women. But today, I'm focused on the testosterone. And once you understand what actually is causing it, you're going to be furious. But you're actually going to be able to do something about it yourself. So here's the fatal convenience at the center of this crisis. We've been told that the declining testosterone is a natural consequence of aging. This is what they hide behind. And the modern sedentary life of stress, as if these are just inevitable trade-offs of living in the 21st century. But that framing isn't entirely true. It's in fact wrong. It's not aging, per se. The data is age-controlled. And it shows the decline. It is not just stress. Men in previous generations worked their asses off. Physical labor, survived wars, raised large families, and maintained testosterone levels that dwarf what we're seeing in 20-year-old men today. Living environmental is certainly happening. Something systemic, globally, worldwide. Something that began intensifying around the 1980s and has not slowed down and is actually accelerating. And here's why this matters beyond the libido, beyond gym performance, beyond the things we've been trained to associate with testosterone. And certainly all of those do exist, but a 2024 meta-analysis published in the annals of internal medicine. One of the most rigorous peer-reviewed journals in medicine, covering 11 prospective cohort studies and more than 24,000 men, found that low testosterone is independently associated with increased all-cause mortality. Men with testosterone below 213 nanograms.
per desolate, had a statistically higher risk of dying from anything, from any cause. Men with very low testosterone below 153 nanograms per desolate, had increased risk of dying specifically from cardiovascular disease, which by the way is still the leading cause of death. So this is not just performance. This is not about masculinity per se. This is about our survival. Testostero is a fundamental biological signal that drives metabolic health, cardiovascular function, bone density, immune function, mood stability, cognitive clarity and so much more. When you collapse testosterone across an entire generation of men, you don't just create a population of men feeling tired with low drive. You create a population of men who are biologically more vulnerable to every major chronic disease. And we are doing it right now. It's happening right now. And maybe deliberately, unknowingly, and that scale. And I mean, I'll get into the deliberate side of things. So let's start at the most important driver that you have never heard of or discussed at your doctor's office. This is what you've heard me talk about before, the endocrine disrupting chemicals that we're swimming in, that I wrote a book about. Your body produces testosterone through a tightly regulated cascade that runs from your brain to your testes. The hypothalamus releases gonad tropin releasing hormone. That signals the pituitary to release the luteinizing hormone, LH. That travels to the lydig cells and the testes. You don't need to remember all this, but I'm just telling you that the cells specifically designed to make testosterone. And it's important to understand this. That triggers the conversion of cholesterol into the progestinolarone. And then through a series of enzyme reactions, it turns into testosterone. It's an elegant, very sensitive, finely tuned system. And it is being chemically jammed in many ways. One, you may have heard of BPA, Bysphenol A. It is found in plastic. Food containers, thermal receipts on paper, canned food linings, water bottles. You know, I've been telling you, get rid of that plastic water bottle. Get rid of that, that tea bag. It's this, it's a synthetic estrogen. So it binds directly to these Androgen receptors in these lydig cells that your body needs to convert into testosterone. So it is a steroidal genetic acute regulatory protein called STAR protein interfering with the LH signaling, disrupting this mechanism. That is literally the gatekeeper for cholesterol entering the mitochondria to begin testosterone synthesis. So no STAR protein signaling this pathway, no testosterone. Bysphenol A disrupts that entire signaling pathway. You get how important this is. Thalates, what you've heard me talk about before, are even worse potentially. They're plasticizers added to everything making it flexible. The more flexible of plastic, the more thalates exist. The food packaging, vinyl flooring, children's toys, medical tubing. That's right. Cosmetics, shampoos, fragrances. When you smell that fresh plastic scent in a new car or a shower curtain, that is the horrible smell of thalates off-gassing into the air you breathe. They are absorbed through the skin and hailed. Eatin, if your food is in contact. Thalates specifically target the same pathway, the STAR protein mechanism. The same as BPA. This then reduces its expression choking off this first step into testosterone synthesis. A 2014 Endocrine Society study found that men with higher urinary thalate metabolites had measurably lower testosterone. The research conducted and the researchers concluded that this could be contributing to the population level testosterone decline. Also a 2024 study in natures scientific reports confirmed the mixture effect combining the endocrine disrupting exposure was associated with reductions in both testosterone and the free-angrogen index. So it seems like there is almost a direct correlation, but that's to be determined, but it looks very suspicious. Then there's this pesticide. Glyphosate is getting a lot of press, but you know the one called Astrazine. It is the most commonly used herbicide in the United States. Applied to corn, sugar cane and and where? Golf courses. So Astrazine doesn't just disrupt testosterone. It activates aromatase, the enzyme that converts to stuff directly into Astrazine. That's when the frogs that were exposed to Astrazine levels found in normal tap water in the agricultural areas became chemically feminized. The researchers who published those findings, Dr Tyrone, high, Dr Tyrone Hayes at UC Berkeley spent years trying to figure out the findings that recognize while the manufacturer, Syngenta, ran a documented campaign to discredit him. But the science was clear. Peefos. This is another one. Pre and polyfluoral-elcalized substances, Peefos, the forever chemicals, the non-stick cookware, the water resistant clothing, the food packaging, fire foam, dental floss, in our water, on our clothing. This accumulates in the body, causing disruption in the endocrine system. Okay, so now we're shifting into some knowledge that you can take in because here is something that should be required and the knowledge of every man over 30. 70 to 80% of your daily testosterone is produced during sleep, not gentle sleep, deep, deep sleep, REM sleep and specifically the testosterone surge happens in the early morning hours, coordinated by your circadian clock, tied to the architecture of your sleep stages. When you don't sleep enough, you don't make enough testosterone. Did you hear that? So if you're running out to peptides and to your doctor to give hormone replacement, you're not doing this step better sleep and some more recommendations I'm going to add do not get in an adogenous testosterone support yet because it's simple.
