Professor X Has Been Cast Says Report, 5 Actors It Could Be - The John Campea Show

well greetings and salutations everybody welcome to the best damn movie related show on the planet earth the john campy show coming from right here in my quaint little studio i'm of course your host john campy and it's an awesome honor and privilege as it is every day to have you our international friends gather around so we talk about our favorite things in the world movies and movie news tv and streaming all that good stuff and joined in all the good stuff today is writer director producer mr robert meyer burnett robert how you doing today sir just in from vegas from the star trek 60th anniversary convention it was a blast i had a great time very cool and also joining us our technical director of course jonathan voyko is here hello everybody and most importantly of course you guys are here thanks for being here making our little show part of your day and here's how our show's gonna go we're gonna start off our show by going through a number of topics we got lined up for you guys and then that's it uh i have meetings today that i have to run off to so there will not be uh live viewer questions today don't worry they'll be back on monday uh but we do have a number of really cool things that we need we need to talk about here we're gonna get things started off with this well i mean the odyssey was a film that for like three weeks we just had to speak ad nauseum about oh it's now breaking this record and now it's accomplishing this and it's got this and it's just been a one-time thing and it's been a one-time thing and it's been a one-time thing and it's been a one-time thing and it's been a one-time thing and it's been a one-time thing and it's been a victory lap uh for this film since it's come out and the question then became was not it changed from could odd could odyssey actually hit a billion dollars which has been the question you know since they announced the film because you know oppenheimer got close but didn't quite get there all that kind of stuff will the question switch from could it get to a billion to when's it going to hit a billion and now we have the answer to that the answer is today we're going to the answer is today today is when it joins the billion dollar club as you see from this report in the numbers yesterday that as of yesterday earlier in the day yesterday the worldwide box office of the odyssey was 987 million dollars it is projected to take in well over 13 million dollars today it may have already done it as worth as of this recording but today the odyssey joins the billion dollar club becoming a billion dollar club and it's going to hit a billion dollars and and this can't be emphasized enough this is really something people i think gloss over but you have to appreciate this odyssey has become only the third r-rated film in cinematic history to join the billion dollar club the other two are of course deadpool and wolverine which the is the highest grossing r-rated film of all time followed by the first not the second the first joaquin phoenix joker movie and that's it and the long storied history of hollywood films and all the great all-time wonderful r-rated hollywood films as well that's it only those two have joined the billion dollar club and now this one has as well now you guys might also remember i've talked a lot about the fact that this is not a normal blockbuster as far as when does it pass that break-even point to then make profit because it's an expensive film it's a 250 million dollar film all the reports are the same but it's not a blockbuster they spent a hefty 125 million dollars on the promotion of the film but you also have to keep in mind that this movie has the christopher nolan tax because christopher nolan gets 20 percent of first dollar studio gross that is a mighty price tag and so whereas this movie would have been under normal circumstances having a break-even point to then make profit because it's an even point of somewhere around the 625 to 675 million dollar range despite how expensive it is and all that kind of stuff this movie ended up with close to a 950 million dollar break-even point well that's fine because they can now say that the odyssey is officially also a profitable movie uh christopher nolan yeah so it's christopher nolan 200 million in his pocket and on top of that you got to remember one of the reasons that universal agreed to such a hefty price tag on this is because they believe that christopher nolan was going to make epic historic cinema that this is one of those kinds of movies one of those rare kinds of movies that will continue to make money for them in its various avenues over the next several decades they just believe that the odyssey was going to be one of those so it's still going and by the way it still hasn't opened in china and it's projected to make anywhere between like 80 to 120 130 million dollars in china alone and they haven't even opened that yet i think it opens this week and then of course you know it still has i was getting reports from people writing into the live chat today saying their local 70 millimeter imax screen is still booked for the next several weeks oh yeah it's in september yeah so what i did not think was a possibility like could it get to a billion it's possible would it catch deadpool and wolverine well no it's not going to catch deadpool well now that's now that's the question the question went from can it make a billion to how fast will it make a billion now it's can it catch deadpool and wolverine to become the highest grossing r-rated film of all time definitely close it's gonna be close it's it's gonna be close anyway rob you and i have talked a lot about all the different box office records the movie's been setting and everything like that about you know what is it that keeps everybody coming back i mean so that's there but put it into cut how big of a deal is this that this is the first movie without a character named batman in it well unless you count robert pattinson i guess uh without a character named batman in it for christopher nolan this is his first billion dollar film outside of a comic book franchise uh it's it's now profitable only third r-rated film in in history to join it put this into a little bit of perspective for us john i think that uh christopher nolan is the voice of a generation he is he is the gen z filmmaker and and believe it or not gen x and millennial filmmaker of this generation um you know his his name is synonymous with as you have always said experiential events going all the way back to i mean hell memento was an indie film event the the structure of the movie was the story of that movie and the way the story was told really brought christopher nolan to the fray and that was a really um i would dare say might be his best film still because of its groundbreaking nature and the performance that guy pierce delivers in that movie but ever since then if you look at his career he is one classy filmmaker the material he when he went and and because of memento warner brothers tapped him to remake insomnia with an all-star cast that got him batman which led to the prestige um dark knight inception the man has never done anything but shoot high he's trying i mean sometimes i find him to be a little clinical and he's not as emotional in terms of eliciting you know the emotions i want but you know who would have thought that dunkirk would have worked but he basically turned it into a world war ii art film i mean if you put that in the fed red line next to each other you could play that as a double feature forever. And then, of course, what he did with Oppenheimer was extraordinary, even outside of the Barbenheimer experience. And I think, you know, I've heard there's people that don't love The Odyssey, but I know a lot of people who were really knocked out by it. And whatever you believe, you cannot deny that this movie is still, to this day, packing them in at the theaters. They want to see it in 70 millimeter. And Christopher Nolan has succeeded in delivering maybe one of the great experiential movies ever. And I think it's really great that you have people who are getting behind somebody who is, I mean, he is nothing if not thoughtful. And I mean, hell, I still watch Tenet and figure, do I get what's going on here? But I still enjoy it. I'm still not sure sometimes what it is. Yeah, I mean. I don't love it, but hey. And I think, you know what? I'm glad that I live in this era to see a filmmaker like Christopher Nolan, who is both wildly commercial and yet can adapt Homer. I mean, that's. And not only does he adapt Homer, it makes over a billion dollars. That means, in my mind, if Christopher Nolan told me that he wanted to make the bluey live action feature, I'd say, you know what? More power to him. Well, think about this. Think about this. Okay, let's rewind four years. Let's go back four years. And take Christopher Nolan's name out of it. Say, hey, you know, there's going to be two movies coming out in this couple of years. One is a period piece biopic about the guy who created the nuke. And this is going to be called Oppenheimer. And someone's going to take another shot at telling Homer's Odyssey of the Odyssey. And those are going to make a combined $2 billion. You wouldn't believe it. Bashaw, I'd say. That'll never happen. No one's going to believe that a period piece about some scientist is going to make nearly a billion dollars or that yet another iteration of the odyssey is going to make a billion dollars but all of a sudden you just put christopher nolan's name on it then you put christopher nolan's name on it and four years ago we would have gone and yeah oh wait maybe maybe and that's the power go ahead we would have looked at it as another sword and sandal movie yeah that's played out and people don't want to go to the especially post pandemic and we would have written it off and as far as oppenheimer we would have thought 150 million dollar you know yeah who's gonna go see that who no one who wants that and who's asked for that nobody and then all of a sudden you just put christopher nolan's name on it it's like must see cinema anyway guys question is for you what do you think about that the odyssey has now become the fifth billion dollar film of 2026 joining the likes of spider-man the mario curious about it about them doing a live action zelda movie and i've been getting kind of more and more excited about it the more things i see especially seeing that the kid who's playing a link been able to now watch him and house the dragon and go okay this kid's going to be pretty damn good and that's all good but i think today i've lived i've risen to the level of excitement because a report came out you guys remember that we just recently lost an absolute treasure uh in the entertainment industry with the passing of sam neill well something i did not know apparently sam neill is in this upcoming live action zelda movie and it may indeed be the final film that he did uh before passing away the folks over polygon write the following august has already been full of news about the upcoming legend of zelda movie shortly after deadline broke the news of ganondorf's casting the outlet also reported that the late sam neill will also star in nintendo's live action film neil who is best known obviously for playing paleontologist dr alan grant in steven spielberg's jurassic park passed away in july at the age of 78 prior to that deadline reported that new zealander that new zealander finished filming an unknown role in west ball's the legend of zelda movie the trade publication also reports and it goes on about some other by the way uh yvonne strahovski from chuck and the handmaid's tale is going to be in this that i didn't know that before either i'm very excited about that as well um anyway i there's something about watching a new movie with an actor that we loved that had passed away and unfortunately we we've been able to do that a couple of times in the last few years like an actor passes away and then like four months later a new movie is coming out with them in it and there's something very special and something very bittersweet about that as well um but hearing that sam neill is in this and listen for all we know it's a totally tiny role maybe it's two lines maybe it's three lines maybe he's in 20 minutes of the film i simply don't know but i'd be lying guys if i were to be honest with you i would say that sam neill is a must-see movie for me knowing that this might be the last time i get to see him on the big screen in a new movie um just adds on top of the fact that i've already been getting pretty damn interested in the zelda movie this is really special and i'm excited to hear about this anyway rob uh you read this report that they're saying sam neill actually appears in this legend of zelda movie what do you think about that well i think it's great i mean you know i've been a fan of sam neill i think the first time i remembered seeing him was in damian omen 3 you know back in the day or actually it's not damian omen 3 pardon me it's the final conflict the omen 3 and um i thought he was a terrific damian and then he was in another great uh horror film called possession that's actually being remade right now with isabella johnny and he was not a particularly nice dude neither one of those movies and then suddenly he became like you know in dr grant in in jurassic park made him like everybody's favorite uh paleontologist slash father g'day i'm justin wolfers host of the platypus economics podcast if there's one thing i've learned from a career teaching economics it's that your life is shaped by economic about the sound of his voice that i've always liked so um bringing in um oh our viewer says sam neill's also in godzilla versus kong supernova maybe he's the the alien controller no i don't know but i love sam neill so this is fantastic and i guess we're gonna get a lot more than just one movie sam neill's voice i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know since uh oh yeah he's got a he's got a couple of bullets in the chamber yeah i mean and uh hey that's fine with me the more the merrier so i just did not have zelda being one of them no i i did not have zelda i don't think anybody knew about that really no i i think this caught a lot of people pleasantly uh by surprise and caught us off guard but i again i just think it's great i think it's awesome and it's going to be really interesting to watch it and i think it's going to be really interesting to see how this all works out anyway guys question is for you what do you think about this another pleasantly added surprise the john when's the next jurassic world movie john when all we want is another jurassic world movie all day every day that's it everybody just wants more jurassic world movies i'm obviously being a little bit uh facetious there but the answer to your transformers yeah that when's the next transformers movie john well it is coming they're making it and apparently you know non-blade mahershala lee is going to come back and so is scarlett johansson but you know who's not coming back the director gareth edwards this is coming to us from deadline that gareth edwards is not returning for the next jurassic world movie and it is the dreaded creative differences uh this is what deadline writes universal and amblin are gearing up for the next installment of the jurassic world franchise but sources tell deadline that they will need be in need of a new director as gareth edwards will not be returning for the sequel insiders say the decision was made due to quote-unquote creative differences and edwards will now focus on other original projects he's developing the studio is opening up the search for a new director all right all right now the old kathleen kennedy huh the old kathleen kennedy now lest you guys be saying to yourself well wait a minute why are they doing another one the last one kind of flopped didn't it no no no no no no no no no no it didn't make a billion dollars but it made well over 800 million dollars it made cash it made a lot of money less than the than some of the others but it still ended up listen when you make a bad movie like that last jurassic world one and it still makes over 800 million dollars you know you have a beloved ip people love the jurassic ip i mean we can whine and cry and and moan about it which all of us often do about how they're just not as good as they used to be whatever but the reality is people love jurassic and they love going back to the theaters to watch giant dinosaurs hopefully eating people and having super advanced technology get totally destroyed by a candy wrapper bar that's good writing right there so i mean the very fact that they're even saying that they're going to come back and do another one shouldn't catch us by surprise i didn't realize that they were already gearing up to shoot this thing in early 2027 like they're they're moving right along that means pre-production is already in its stages and apparently they don't have a director now i considering how bombastically ridiculous this franchise has become i i would love to be a fly on the wall what kind of creative differences could you have possibly had what kind of like unless it's gareth edwards saying hey guys let's maybe get back to like make it a little simpler let's just get back to like the original jurassic park kind of idea and the studio's like nah man if vin diesel has taught us anything it's ramp it up baby we take the dinosaurs to space or dinosaurs in space baby dinosaurs in space man with lasers on their freaking heads that's where we got to go i mean i have no idea what their creative differences are but look if i'm being real here the fact the matter is no matter hey and by the way i don't think the last jurassic world movie with scarlett johansson and maher shawley i don't think it was like total garbage i just didn't think it was good it was it was a bad film but i'm not gonna lie i will be just like all you other fools that when opening day of a new jurassic movie comes out i will be the lead fool in line i'll be there to watch the new jurassic it doesn't matter how bad the last one was i'm gonna go to watch it because it's giant dinosaurs i'm a simple man guys transform optimus prime uh dinosaurs you name it uh it's it's good enough to get me there anything with a lightsaber i will probably be there ninjas for rob of course just make it dino riders movie man just just integrate it with the old toy line i mean listen at some point you know they're gonna cross that rubicon of the military got involved and they've decided to weaponize the dinosaurs by mounting them up and you know what mix in a little um pacific rim with it too that they that these dino riders now have these neural interfaces that connects them them and the dinosaur become one and i'm writing this for you guys i'm writing it for you um anyway rob i didn't even know gareth edwards was attached to direct the next one yet here we are uh now he's not he's not doing it creative differences and all what do you think about this uh the fact that we are getting scarlett johansson amahershala lee coming back so they're going to continue that part of the story i suppose where do they go from here after everything they've done i don't know what do you think about all this what you know it's interesting because in the last movie they made a big deal about the how dinosaurs now have kind of been limited to living on the equatorial plane which i thought was kind of a step back because look yeah and by the way can i just point out something really ridiculous about the movie something the most ridiculous thing about the movie they establish early in the movie that dinosaurs will die if they move out of that equatorial waistband right they'll die they'll die that's the only place they can really survive they can't survive outside of it and what's the first thing the little girl does with the cute little baby dinosaur let's take it out of the area where it can survive and take it home where it's sure to die and never mention it again like keep him in a humidifier did did nobody think about this in the movie anyway sorry but rob you just reminded me of that i had to say something anyway please continue no i mean look as you pointed out the death and taxes dinosaurs apes on horseback with rifles those are two things that i find irresistible and uh the special effects i mean look say what you want the effects in the last film were astonishing i mean that that the the water attacks and stuff really amazing they did look good yeah yeah for that for that reason alone i'll always tune into a new jurassic park movie but i really feel like they've missed the boat in the sense of of the dinosaurs you could you could use them as sort of their metaphors for other things the problem now is that it's just like oh we need to go get a treasure we need to go find an elixir we need to go do this and the dinosaurs become an obstacle right what what should be more interesting i mean they the dinosaurs could be they could represent things like obviously we are living on a planet whether you believe in it or not that is heating up you can see those evidences all over the place with fires with temperatures the arctic everything and then the dinosaurs could be a metaphor if the if the climate on earth is changing and getting warmer the dinosaurs have a more hospitable place to live so they're easily you know life will find a way turn them into the living embodiment of climate change do something interesting with them and and i keep waiting i mean we saw a little bit of this back in the day with with them but i want to see dinosaurs taking over cities i want to see them interacting with human civilization and i want to i want to see dinosaurs taking over cities i want to see them interacting with human civilization in a profound way that is not going to end well for us i mean i keep waiting for them to push the boundaries i mean give me the aliens version of a dinosaur movie set in the cities man i want to see earth overrun i want to see people eaten i want to see just action scenes like we've never seen before and you know if you don't want to go that way let's put dinosaurs in in coliseums and watch real gladiatorial combat like just like a real people know that that's what what michael jackson looks like uh what the big question has been of course you know we know there was going to be a second part they made the decision early in the project that instead of just one movie it was going to be two they had already started shooting the movie when they decided to do that now how were they going to do it we weren't really sure then we saw michael we saw where they cut that movie off when are we going to get the second one well now according to deadline we've actually got some information on when michael 2 will start shooting and when they're aiming to have it in theaters and it's actually sooner than you might think as deadline is reporting the following lionsgate motion picture chairman alan or adam fogelson by the way i've met adam a number of times very cool guy and you know there there are some studio heads guys in the industry who truly i've met a bunch of them they truly are movie fans adam fogelson at lionsgate straight up freaking movie nerd and i mean that in the best way possible like he is a legit bonafide tattoo wearing movie geek he absolutely loves movies and just it's very cool it's a very very easy guy to cheer for and thus i often cheer for lionsgate anyway getting back to it lionsgate motion picture group chairman adam fogelson gave an update on the highly anticipated sequel to the studio's michael jackson biopic michael telling analysts on a q1 call that we are targeting a production start towards the end of the year or early next year as far as when we'll see the sequel to lionsgate's highest grossing one billion dollar plus movie fogelson shared i think that end of calendar 2027 and the first half of calendar 2028 would be the current thought of roughly where the movie would go uh folks and couch these statements by emphasizing we're not ready to announce everything at the end of the year the moment all right so one of the things that we two things we now know they are aiming to start shooting michael 2 not that it's going to be called michael 2 i don't know what they're going to call it they're aiming to start shooting this year now it might get pushed into a little bit into early 2027 we'll see but they're targeting two things they're targeting getting cameras rolling this year and they're targeting getting this thing in theaters next year which is not all that far away like end of 2027 obviously them hitting that goal will depend on how fast they can get the movie shooting now they don't have an entire movie to shoot because as adam also said in this interview they've already shot a bunch of stuff that's going to be in movie two right because remember the first movie was just going to originally was just going to be one big movie and by the time they had decided to make it two individual films they had already shot a lot of the stuff that would be a part of movie two so that's encouraging that means it won't take as long as say a traditional movie would take to start shooting and get it into theaters how fast they can turn it around i'm not really sure rob one of the interesting things that is missing from this article though that i've noticed is there's no mention of the great antoine fuqua about whether or not and you noticed that did you yes i did i think that was very conspicuous by its absence uh of course antoine who i think is a remarkable director um he of course did the first michael no mention about whether or not he's going to be back for the second one i i'm i think you're here i've kind of heard that he might not come back do the second one so i'm maybe he does maybe he doesn't not really sure even if he doesn't a lot of the stuff he's directed was going to be in the second one anyway it's included in there i wonder if in the here's a random off the rabbit trail question if you shot a bunch of stuff and directed a bunch of scenes that then get put into a different movie do you by dga rules do you get partial directing credit for the movie i don't know that's a yeah that's a very good question i don't know because if you think about um i'm thinking about like superman 2 when they when they did the donner cut donner wasn't really mentioned in the first right he wasn't in the credits of the first iteration of superman 2 i know a lot of time has changed so rules probably have changed since 19 whatever that was but there's probably a percentage of the movie you need to have directed to maybe that's another question for another time anyway rob obviously michael is a billion dollar film uh we've only had five this year and we've only had five movies this year and we've only had five movies this year and we'll probably end up only with six possibly seven michael got to that landmark so obviously a lot of eyes on when this thing's going to come back do you think they can get this thing spun up by the end of this year and what would you think about them uh hitting a 2027 deadline and do you think the sequel can be as big as the billion dollar original what do you think well what i do think they could get this movie up and running because it they were gonna they were already deep into production on whatever this movie is going to be eventually so if you've got i mean but this john is assuming that anton fuqua would come back to direct and and that jafar jackson would come back and play michael well he's on the contract yeah yeah no i know i'm just kidding but the the i think that the um and he's incredible um i i do think this could happen i don't know necessarily if it will because i i think that the the the the the the the the the think ultimately the second half of this story has to deal with some things that might make it difficult from a scripting standpoint but I would assume maybe those problems have been alleviated but anyway I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna be optimistic about it I mean a movie that was this successful and everybody still obviously is still compelled by the Michael Jackson story there's still a lot more to tell about the good stuff in his life in addition to the I mean it's gonna be interesting to see how they handle the dark turn that the story takes but I'd still be interested in seeing it either way um I think that I I like Michael a lot more than I thought I was going to and it has a lot of re-watchability and and look is it the most deep and insightful biopic ever made no but it's certainly one of the most toe-tapping and so I think there's something to be said for that um will they be able to finish this movie and get it done by the end of 2027 I think that's possible if they can get the cameras rolling by the end of the year yeah um you know and they probably already because they were shooting that stuff before had a lot of the initial pre-production done if they can put the team back together you know um maybe they can maybe they can work it out and I think they certainly can throw enough money at it but it'd be interesting to see like this question being asked now who does take over I mean those are all good names but if somebody takes over do they scrap what's already been used like you brought up or not I think probably not you'd want to use as much as you've already shot because why wouldn't you Boz Lerman takes over for part two I'm just throwing a wild name out there I I hear Gareth Edwards is available Gareth Edwards steps into direct Michael too listen I I'm I will admit I didn't like Michael as much as I was hoping I would like I enjoyed it how can you not watch that movie and dance in your seat and tap your foot like I was doing that the whole movie I was like shaking in my seat and but I I given the fact fall is a vibe so what's yours do you go wild or get a little nostalgic do you like to cozy up indoors or kick it outdoors whatever you fall for get shoes the game at you we've got the trend you bring the vibes DSW let us surprise you of like it's Michael Jackson and it was being directed by one of my favorite directors Antoine Fuqua I was expecting a better overall movie not just a celebratory music retrospective but I still enjoyed it I still liked it I wonder how much the sequel will make because obviously there are a bunch of people who didn't end up liking Michael but the people who did like Michael seemed to really love Michael so it's going to be really interesting how they do as far as the darker turn I'm going to give a prediction right now I don't think they're going to go down that path at all I mean we know that they all of a sudden had to stop production on the movie because they were filming stuff that the Michael Jackson estate failed to let the studio know they weren't allowed to shoot and that had to do with some of the court proceedings and everything so I'm wondering if they just might especially considering how sanitized the first Michael was I have a feeling they're not going to go down that darker turn which I think would be very interesting if they did but I don't think they're going to this first movie covered his his accident right on the Pepsi commercial with the fire yes yeah that had a lot to do with his drug addiction later on to pain pain medication so they could still touch on that stuff you know how how do you just completely ignore all of that that would be really weird to me yeah there might be a few mentions or references I just got a feeling and I could be wrong and I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling they're gonna try to sidestep that as much as possible but especially if you given how the first Michael went but anyway guys the question is for you what do you think about this we may they are targeting at least they're not sure they can make it but they're targeting like the end of next year which is only like 18 months away before we get Michael 2 do you think they can get there are you looking forward to the second Michael movie whatever you guys think jump down to the head I just love that X-Men music so much but as you guys know a lot of X-Men casting been going on lately we now it's official cats out of the bag is not being kept a secret anymore they're even talking about it in interviews now but Sadie Cink is of course indeed Jean Grey as we have been telling you for like eight months she was going to be Jean Grey but a lot of you guys knew it already too like we weren't telling you anything you didn't know so it's official she's Jean Grey we also got the wonderful Samara weaving is going to be our Emma Frost yesterday we talked about Kit Conner I believe I believe that's his name Kit Conner uh has been cast superhero name it does it sounds like a made-up fake superhero name his mild-mannered regular person Persona Kit Conner uh is going to be our Cyclops so we know that which leaves still two of the biggest pieces of the puzzle up for grabs and those are of course Magneto and Charles Xavier or Michael Jackson depending on how you look at it so those are obviously the casting announcements we're waiting to find out now there's been some speculation in some reports and all that kind of stuff about who may or may not be in the running including a couple names like Tom uh pelfrey and uh Bill Skarsgard have been thrown out there a lot well according to a report out there by Daniel rpk they're saying that the role of Charles Xavier has been cast and it's not Bill Skarsgard nor Tom Pelfrey. It's neither of them. I had heard a while, like when the first rumors of these came out, we kind of addressed these a while ago. These rumors came out, we talked about and blah, blah, blah. I then got contacted by a couple of people said it's neither of them, but I didn't know how reliable that was. Maybe it was reliable. Maybe it wasn't. But now Daniel RPK is also saying it's neither of those two names. Now I a hundred percent believe, 100% believe that they've already got their Charles Xavier. I completely believe they've got him. Who's it going to be? Well, there is some word going around today. Before we get into the five, I'm going to mention there is some word going around today that Craven actor Christopher Abbott might be in talks to take over. The role he's been in a couple of things you might recognize, like obviously he was in Craven, the hunter, but you know what? He was pretty good. I didn't like that Wolfman movie all that much, to be honest with you, but he was pretty good at it. Like he he's pretty good at it. So I don't, I'm not familiar with a lot of his work outside of those things. And obviously in poor things, but there, there's some whispers going around that he may be in talks. I want you to file that away and put that into the back of your, uh, brain storage capacity. There are the name Christopher Abbott. Now that kind of came out before I put together this list. Now I, over the weeks have had several names spoken to me about people. They've been talking to not in talks, but talking to about potentially doing it. There've been a whole bunch of them. I've narrowed it down to five out of all the ones that I've heard thrown at me. Now, one of my big pieces of criteria here, guys, is that, it has to be an actor between the age of 40 and 50. I think, I think less than 40 might be a little too young. I think over 50 might be getting a little bit too old for somebody you hope will be playing this role for 20 years. But you know, if they're 40 to 45, 48, whatever they can play it for 20 years, no problem. So, so I've narrowed it down to the actors that I've heard between 40 and 50. And these are the ones that I think are number one, most important. And I think they're the ones that I think are the most important. And I think most likely, but the ones I'd be most interested in. All right, I'm going to go from number five up to number one. At number five for me, it's James Norton, who you might know right now as Lord Ormond Hightower in House of the Dragon. Now he's already got quite a nice acting resume and boy, do we love to hate this guy in House of the Dragon, but I can, he's the right age. I believe he's like 40 on the nose. I think he's the right age. I think he's got a great look for it. Shave that head, you know, put him in a wheelchair and boom. And he's got the voice for it. I think he's got that, a very commanding presence that Charles Xavier has to have. You have to have an actor where, because when Charles Xavier comes into a room, he owns the room. And I think you need an actor that can have, a bit of that to him. I think James Norton is one of the guys who can do that. So I'm going to say my number five spot is going to be James Norton. At number four, I love this guy, Matthew Goode. I love Matthew Goode. And I've always- He's one of my favorites. So good in The Offer. Oh, see, that was, see, I've always liked him, but it was in The Offer I just straight up fell in love with him. And then there was that little vampire movie a couple of years ago called Abigail, where he just pops up at the end for this big scene at the end. And he, it's like one of my favorite moments of the entire movie, the way he comes in again, just this incredible presence. I also loved him in The Imitation Game. So good. I just love this guy. I think he is a- World-class, world-class actor. And I could totally see him as a Charles, that voice, that whole bit. I just think him coming into a room, I think he would be a great Charles Xavier. And again, one that I think could play the role for like 20 years. All right. Next one up for me, it's a little at the top of the age range, granted, but he is 50. And that's, that's just at the edge of my age range. Cillian Murphy. Cillian Murphy, my friend. Man, bang on, Rob. It's not just that he's a great actor. Okay. Because we could make a list of any great actors. It's ones that I could actually see having that presence of Charles Xavier. And I just think this guy could do it. He's one of my favorites. One of my favorite choices for this role. By the way, also one of the few guys on this list, maybe the only guy on this list that I could easily seeing him play either Charles Xavier or Eric or Magneto. I could see him playing either, to be honest with you. It's interesting you say that because when you brought up James Norton, I saw Magneto. Yeah, there are some, yeah, some people that, that would work too. So I really, really love the idea. If they announced tomorrow that it was, it was Cillian Murphy, I, I would, I would lose my shit. That would be great. But there are two names that I like even more for this role. And we already had James Norton. So staying, but I swear it has nothing to do with house of the dragon. I think Matt Smith would be an amazing Charles Xavier. Amazing. Just like the way his, the power he has in his voice, his ex, his able, his ability to use his expressions only to complete dominate a scene. This guy as Charles Xavier for the next 10, 15, 20 years would be something I would sign up for immediately. May not have gone over great and Morbius. That's fine. But you give him the role of Charles Xavier. I'm telling you what, man, that has just win written all over it. I'd be there immediately. Polar opposite from his current role. I mean, oh yeah. Yeah. Charles Xavier has to exude empathy. And, and, and I think he can do it. I think he absolutely can do it. And I think he would be great at it. Well, that leads to my number one pick. And before I say my number one pick, let me say one or two, um, honorable mentions. One that I can't believe I don't have on my list. It's just that I, I left it at five, but Lee pace, I think Lee pace would, would probably be a pretty badass Charles Xavier. So I think that one would be there too. Way a little, but that's, that's part of the reason why he got disqualified out of it. But I still, I think he would have been really good. Cause he, man, he plays young, he can play young, but, and then there's one name that is the, the lifelong fan casting since Patrick Stewart. Um, it's just that way past the age, I think cut off for somebody who'd be able to play. This role for 20 years. And that was Brian Cranston. I think everybody would love to see Brian Cranston as perhaps, but he can't play the role for the next 20, 25 years. So here's my number one guy. This guy is a phenomenal talent. He has played in a wide variety of roles. He's the perfect age. He's got a great look for it. He's got the voice for it. And at one point, gentlemen, he's played Charles Xavier's son. No, you know, I can't believe you're going to say this. This was my, ah, was this your pick? Yeah. Ladies and gentlemen, I, I present to you Dan Stevens. This dude is awesome. Yep. He's awesome. I can't believe that's so funny. My wife used to make me watch, uh, what I thought at one point was called downtown Abbey. What that I then very quickly learned. No, it's John is Downton Abbey. He, he, first of all, he, he burst onto the scene in Downton Abbey and he was really quite good in it. And then think what you will about the live action beauty and the beast. He was really good. He was really good. And he's done nothing but like own things. And by the way, guys, we already referenced Abigail the other day, a few minutes ago, he was fantastic in Abigail. And then of course, Legion, he was amazing in the guest. Oh, the guest. I mean, this guy is just a phenomenal, phenomenal actor has got the quintessential British voice for this. Um, I, I just think, man, I just think this guy would be great. I think he would be absolutely great for it. Look, I like all of these names, although if they announced any of these names, I'd be super happy with it. Hell, even Christopher Abbott, which might be the name, but, and there are some other names that I would be perfectly happy with, but I just, these are all names that have been mentioned in the show. And I think that's a great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, that rob they the word going around is that they've they've picked their charles they've got him now whether it's christopher abbott or whether it's matt smith or whether it's dancy we'll find that out probably before d23 for sure but do you believe like i do that they have indeed cast him and if so what are some names you would like to put forward for possibly being our new charles xavier well you already got killian murphy and dan stevens which were uh uh mine but i i think he's already been uh cast um i really do i mean i think that i think that they're gonna make probably a big splashy announcement at d23 um you know that that it just it just wouldn't surprise me if if that's what's going to happen and then there's a there's an actor name i think he i think his name is sam claffin oh yeah yeah i think sam claffin could work um i think that like you said you he's got an empathetic quality to him um but that was really that's that's really the the one the one guy that was dan stevens killian murphy and and and sam claffin that i sort of came up with well i'm glad we uh we had a couple of the same ones on there then yeah i mean i love dan stevens as an actor i just love that guy and it's just piercing blue eyes oh you know if you have xavier sitting in like you'd see in that picture that his eyes alone you know you just shine a light in them the right way and you can see psychic powers emanating from him so it's going to be interesting if is it is it onslaught that's supposed to be like a pseudo merger of magneto and xavier yeah oh no the new movie that's coming out oh that's like a pseudo sequel to the to the to the uh to the guest oh it's in the in the guest universe wasn't there already a movie just a couple of years ago set in like world war ii germany called onslaught yeah i'm sure i don't know if it's called onslaught but it's new it's the new um is it adam wingard it's the new adam wingard movie okay all right you know that with with uh with uh wonder woman in it she plays in and there's terminator soldiers it's like universal soldier meets the terminator i had one what's that thinking of for for xavier um you remember 1917 the movie yes oh yeah uh george mckay the lead in 1917 yeah i could see him as a great xavier i like that one and by the way there's a few others that people have been kind of mentioning the live chat um one of them i mean is an obvious one but i just think he's aged out for this particular role which was mark strong mark strong i mean just phenomenal i just don't know if he can play the role for another 20 years which is one of the things i think they're looking for yeah mark strong would be good uh of course patrick wilson was one we've talked about before that we really like the idea of patrick wilson uh some somebody's mentioning daniel craig yeah again aged out though i think he's a bit aged out to play to start playing if he was it was for one or two movies only do it um but but that's why i had that rule i i set up a rule it had to be between 40 and 50 so that's who i have come up with guys question is for you what do you think about this the whispers going around right now is that it's done they've cast charles xavier we just don't know who it is yet uh maybe it's one of the names we've mentioned maybe it's christopher abbott maybe it's i don't know maybe it's james norton maybe it's one of these other guys i think we will find out very soon hell maybe by the time we go to bed tonight we might find out who it actually is whatever you guys think about it i think it's going to be really interesting to see what you guys think jump down to the comment section below and let us know your thoughts and of course maybe it'll be vin diesel all right guys and that will do it for today's installment of the john campia show thank you so much for being here and making our little show part of your day big special thank you to the thousands of you guys already still here in the live chat with us and of course to our special guest today writer director producer creator of true noir at least the audio drama mr robert meyer burnett robert thanks again have a great weekend everybody yeah thank you this was a great week and and of course our technical director jonathan voyko have a great weekend man we'll talk to you next week all right everyone stay safe over the weekend see you monday and again of course most importantly thank you to all you guys for joining us we know there's a lot of things you could be doing with your time the fact that you choose to spend some of your time with us here today i we can't even put into words how much that means to us so thank you so much for joining us and we'll see you next week thank you so much for that guys that will do it for us for now guys my name is john campia and until next time my friends bye
